A brief conclusion thread, due to the menace of autosage; last post follows:

You're not sure how to decide, and thinking about it, it's not really your decision, "let us ask Twitch," you say, "it's his body."

Menkov gives it a moment's thought, then softens, "Very well. But ask your question and be off, he needs his rest."

Admitted into Twitch's room, he frankly doesn't look much better than when you brought him in. Between the bandages, the pale pallor of his skin, and the ancient medical equipment, you almost wish you'd stayed outside. Almost.

Twitch looks at you groggily, then manages a smile, "So I guess I wasn't hit that bad after all," he says.

You return the gesture, "Hell, if I thought you'd be doing so well, I would've hoofed it a bit slower, I've got this strain in my ankle-"

Twitch laughs, and for that you're relieved.

"What your friend is actually here to ask," Menkov interrupts, "is if you want to undergo artifact exposure treatment. Our selection of medical artifacts here is poor and most are out 'on loan' as it were, but your comrades have found a rather remarkable example to go along with their radiation-nullifying Jellyfish."

"What kind of difference will it make?"

"From months and possible permanent damage to days and no typical permanent damage."

    Twitch swallows, "and the catch?"

"Radiation exposure, potential poisoning. A regimen of powerful, unpleasant drugs. An increased risk of cancer and tumerous growths even if radiation exposure is nullified or controlled."

Twitch pauses to consider before speaking again, "and if I stay here, I've got months in bed-"

"Three to six, possibly more," Menkov supplies.

"-risk of infection, and risk of permanent injury."

He looks from the doctor to you, "Well, I told you I had a thing about gambling. I'm fine with it if you are."

(It's the player's call, but yes, there is some risk of injury, though slim.)

Hmmm. Funny how it all fits together, isn't OP?

Anyway, let's do the therapy. Hell, if it works, we can go hunt another boar? And this time, we'll bring a cart or something.
    >> Anonymous 09/04/10(Sat)03:15 No.11945279
If he's for it, I say we give it to him, but keep looking for another Jellyfish or something else to hinder the radiation. We gotta look out for our bud.

    Yup.

I say go with the treatment, and in the meantime scrounge around for another Jellyfish. This new detector's been working out well for us.

I'll admit it stretches credulity a bit, but such artifacts exist in the Zone, you DID go looking, and no one wants to play "Wait Three to Six Months to Wait for your Friend to Heal from Catastrophic Gunshot Wounds in Dangerous Conditions Quest."

"Let's do it then," you say, "this gamble's in your favor." You give your friend a rough pat on the shoulder and he returns the gesture - weakly.

Going back outside, you meet up with Bird and Damsel.

"So, how is he?" Bird asks.

"Alive. Himself, but tired," you pause, "He agreed to take the treatment. Now."

"What an idiot," Damsel says. She's smiling.

Roll 2d20 to see how the treatment goes.

Seems... promising. I think Nobylan is watching, but Mitenun is off doing something else...

In the meantime, let's get that boar cooked up.

Might need to talk to those shifty blokes at the agroprom to get a jellyfish. You know with them running a black market artifacts business and all.

Stalk, I'm very grateful for your participation in these quest threads. You're doing a very good job, and you're motivating me to run my own S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game for my friends. I'm seeing how you're doing it and it's giving me ideas. Lots of good ideas.

Agreed. And that's where are 4 wanted STALKERS are, correct? I really don't want to leave Twitch but its for his own health. I propose we head that way.

Twitch's recovery goes apace under the watchful eye of Doctor Menkov, who continues to allow no visitations. You busy the next few days looking for artifacts to deal with the menace of radiation poisoning, but the Zone is not, despite your straining, in a giving mood. It's not until the end of day four that Doctor Menkov visits you.

"The procedure," he says, "was a success." Menkov forestalls an attempt to physically show gratitude with a raised hand, "I can't guarantee he won't see issues with cancer or tumors in the future, but radiation exposure was carefully controlled to the point that no permanent damage appears to have occurred. He'd very much like to see you all."

You're up for that, and when you enter his room, he's sitting up in his bed - still gangly and bald, but much more alive-looking than he had been mere days ago; the effect is amazing. Damsel surprises you all - including Twitch - by giving the man a rather crushing hug.

"Don't do that again," she commands.

"What, get shot in the chest?" Twitch says, "I was hoping to avoid it, yeah."

"So, how do you feel?" Bird asks, a relieved smile on his face.

    "Fine. Well, famished, actually."

"About that," you say "I think we have a surprise for you. I hope you like ham."

(Gonna call it for the night, guys, it's pretty late. As always, comments welcome/encouraged. Expect to see the next thread around 8pm whenever possible.)

Like I said, you can poke around urban areas and eventually you'll find something. I follow the main thing the players want to do, though, so we'll get there when we get there.

Duely noted. Garages, bunkers, etc. will be watched-for, and I'll try to work it in so it doesn't disrupt.
