As of now, we are almost probably the longest running Quest Thread in the world. Just thought you should know.

Anyway, you are Commander David Lister, ace pilot for the principality of Zeon. As Leader of the Nachtmaren Unit you have over the course of the war against the Federation become one of Zeon's feared aces and the sight of your trademark skaletal colour scheme has become known on both sides.

Together with your band of badass mothers (and Bernie) you have been on the front lines against the worst the Feds can throw at you.

    LAST TIME ON ZEONQUEST

The second battle of Jaburo is well underway. A multi-pronged assault by Zeon is hoping to take the vast and well defended Federation HeadQuarter. Whilst conventional forces attacks from the skies, you and Cima Garahou's Mashiba Team attack from below, sneaking into the base interior from an overlooked water-intake.
You mission is to take out the MS production facilities and then take the Federal GHQ, Cima's mission was to provide a distraction for your activities, along with the main force.

So far, you've just made it inside the MS production block. Your team has taken damage, and your Zock support Mobile Armour has been totalled by falling rocks.

Current Team status is as depicted on the image somebody kindly did last episode.

Huh. You know, I just worked something out, given that on average these threads last about 8 hours... I've spent 22 days just running Zeonquest.

That doesn't include time spent researching or doing images on Photoshop.
    Yikes.

You are currently in the MS production block entrance, the terrain is heavy industrial, there are no enemies present for the moment, and the Wappa Infantry are fanning out to recon the immiediate area.

Further to our earlier discussion on the second incursion by Zeon troops within a week (most likely we believe to extract the first team stranded by the destruction of their Assault Carrier) we have stepped up patrols in the Jungle, but also we are stepping up Operation O to take place sooner than planned. It is hoped that a counter-offensive will place Zeon on the back foot.

As for Odessa that's M'Quve's territory and we hadnt heard anything about an offensive over there the in couple days leading up to the Jaburo assault. With any luck the Hildolfers over there are causing heavy losses with their long range shelling supported by spotters. We we get really lucky M'Quve well get killed somehow, or both could happen! Memo from GHQ to MS Factory: Production Targets from Oct + Nov

With Operation O now accellerated, the MS development facilities (plus others) will have to seriously step up their game. I know getting the facilities running smoothly has been a challenge, but we have no more time for the teething problems you've been having lately.
By hook or by Crook, we need at least 150 GM pattern mobile suits ready before November 5th for preparation of the Operation, this is on top of you other commitments.
Aside from this testing of G 3 and G 6 MUST be ready to ship out before the Operation get's underway. Data recieved from White Base on the G - 2's performance indicates that the pilot may need to replace his Mobile Suit due to battlefield stress shortly.
There is still some debate as to whether or not we should continue mass producing the RX-77's or continue developing new models in GHQ. The current prevailing wind is to ramp down production in favour of GM Cannon refit packages which will be distributed to the field, or Mass Production model Guntanks.

The manufacture of GM refit packages is also seen as highly important, especially for the Indonesian and Pakistani fronts with regards to the Land Combat, Strike and Desert packages.
    Furthermore these suits...

"Commander we have a priority message from Hovis!"

"Put it on." You say as you stop reading.

"I've found another suit, looks like a new model of Guncannon. But we've got bad news, the latest shipment of Mobile Suits were evacuated out of the block on rails. I think there was a Gundam with them! Try to get to me and I'll tell you the rest of the details over a secure commline."

You order the teams to move out and you head over to where Hovis is currently holed up, leaving demo charges in your wake and shooting at anything that looks explosive.

You CAN send a signal to Cima, but keep in mind there's a risk it could be intercepted by the enemy.

You arrive at the general to hear explosions.

"I've got Sonar contacts Commander! Looks like at least 3 enemy mobile suits in combat!" Calvin advises you.

You order a cautious advance and reach the battlefield area.

Hovis is in a (pictured) Guncannon and along with Infantry trying to make Pop-Up attacks with their AT bazooka's is currently trying to keep a group of GM's pinned as they shoot at each other behind the corner of a MS Hangar block.

No offense, but I'm going to ignore the suggestion to cut the Fuel Tanks moorings off with a superhigh temperature weapon and follow this guy's suggestion instead.

You order Zolomon, Elaine and Jolyne to flank around. You and the rest of the Nachtmaren quickly move out of cover to rejoin with Hovis. Some of the GM's see you and fire in your direction but supressing fire leaves them unable to do real damage.

"Glad you could join us Commander. We've got at least 3 mobile suits using the heavy cover of the hangar block to avoid my beam shots. The Wappa troops haven't been able to provide targeting data due to the open terrain between here and there, and I'm loath to send them off the long way around as I needed them to watch my flanks."

"I've sent Jolyne, Zol and Elaine around the side, they should get their in a few minutes. We just need to keep them from trying anything until then." you tell him.

As you trade fire with GM's (it looks like Beam Spray Guns can't penetrate through the cover, and although you beams can, the GM's are keeping themselves too mobile for you to hit without a line of sight.
Plus it gives the enemy a nice hole to shoot at you through.
Anyway, you ask Hovis about the suit.

"The Beam cannon mounted on the back pack has an excellent rate of fire, and a pretty plentiful ammo supply, plenty of power too. Unfortunately, It was unarmed apart from that when I found it, so my options have been a little limited. If I find any federation hand weapons I'll pick a couple up for both of us."

You fire a burst of yellow beams at a GM who had leaned over too far from cover, and are rewarded with taking off the Suits arm at the shoulder, and then hitting the cockpit dead on with another shot. It explodes soon after.

"You mentioned that they'd already sent on Mobile Suits?"

"I think they were heading to reinforce the GHQ! It was on an transport train using the same tracks that these large facility blocks to move around. I'm pretty sure I saw a Gundam in with the rest of them."

    "How many suits?"

    "At least 6!"

The firefight continues for some minutes before Zolomon breaks radio silence with a whoop, telling you that he's finished his flanking maneouver. You move up to assist whilst they're distracted.
You manage to get the drop on the three remaining GM's that were keeping you pinned and cought within a pincer movement are swiftly destroyed.

"Sorry we were late boss, but we had to take out a second squad of the things that were doing the same thing as we were."

    So, what now?

Did our original plan have Cirma assault EF GHQ after the ship production was destroyed? We might want to try and move in a pincer to support Cirma.

Else we should look to destroy:
    a) Power Generators
    b) MS Development (If we can find it)

Perhaps have David and Calvin break off and head after the train. They have the highest performance suits with the least damage at this point. Bernie can stay and assist Hovis until the rest of our crew take out those GM's.
Rest of the team ensires that the production facility is completely fucked up before leaving.

As far as I'm aware, it's not the full production block we hit so far. We MUST take it out. Most of it or all of it. Sure, they might have awesome suits but we'll limit how many they can make and drown them in numbers. Besides, we've already jumped ahead Zeon tech compared to canon. This could work, but we already know the GHQ was fortified even before we began infiltration. I'm not familiar with canon but is the attack on Odessa taking place now? If not, won't crippling their production now limit their ability to build suits for the attack later on? Sure they may have these elite suits but they won't have sheer numbers. As far as I know, wasn't the main strength of the Fed suits their laser weapons? We've given Zeon early laser weapons right? That might help account for it. Plus, we might be at Odessa or assist there and may be able to stop the suits then.

Okay you travel to the train area. The Door is still wide open from the last train leaving. You set up fuel from the tanks as well as a fair number of explosive on a single train carriage and then do a quick and dirty job to jam the train into full speed on the same route as the last train.

The solider who did the work has to jump clear of the train as it leaves the block.
With a bit of luck all of that fuel will explode like a FAE, which should certainly deal a fair bit of damage.

You then turn back to dealing with the rest of the block.

You're currently running low on demo-packs, so you'll have to rely on your Mobile Suits weaponry.
You make a methodical journey down from one side of the block to the other, leaving a healthy swathe of destruction in your wake.

    You know, as usual.

You eventually reach a massive MS factory block. There's no actual way for an MS to get inside. It looks pretty heavily armoured, so grenades from the outside probably wont work, and whilst beams will penetrate, they don't have quite the wide ranging destructive ability to destroy the facility.
Troops could enter it and take it out from the inside, but that would use up all of your demo explosives left, plus it's assuming that they wont run into defences.

    YOUR PLAN?

Using your beam weaponry, you open up a large hole for the troops to use to gain entry into the facility and wait.

Over the radio you hear the sounds of gunfire as the Wappa mounted troops engage enemy soldiers. Your troops are more heavily armed but the enemy are more numerous.

You order the team to unload into blue mobile suit first, and your team breaks cover. The four of you fire a barrage of beams and torpedoes in it's direction scattering the rest into cover.
When the smoke clears it reveals the Blue GM leaning over so far back you wonder how it's keeping upright. It is apparently unharmed.

It then flips back and leaps towards you. You hear a faint but annoying high pitched whine, like feedback from a microphone in your ear. Possibly some kind of radio interferance.
"Keep firing at it!" You order as it arcs towards you pulling out a 100mm MG and spraying your area with shots.
You dodge out of the way, but stumble as a shot impacts on your knee armour. It doesn't fully penetrate, but the leg reports damage.
You beam salvo goes wide as another bullet strikes you in the elbow, it ricochets of due to the angle, but knocks your aim.

'Is he aiming for my suits joints?' you think.

You dive backwards as the Blue GM lands where you were standing, and fires a pair of missiles at the ground in a shallow angle from it's chest. One hits and slides across ground towards your foot, you lurch sideways to avoid, only to see the second one bounce up directly towards your head, you're body wrenches as you take drastic action and cartwheel your entire mobile suit over, the missile passing over you in mid manouver.

You land unsteadily on your knees.

The other enemy mobile suits have also begun firing, and have drawn Calvin and Bernards firing. THe Blue GM is directly in the middle of your formation.

You call for Zolomon and the rest to get to your position as your under heavy enemy attack.

"Hovis! Get into a sniping position, we need to take this blue bastard down! I'm going to take it on in CC!"

    "Roger! Redeploying!"

You dash towards the enemy mobile suit, it fires a barrage of bullets from it's head and twin-linked chest vulcans at you.
You respond by leaping over the bullets and attacking him with a sweeping mid-air roundhouse kick. He leans backwards to dodge, still firing bullets which strafe your legs and lower skirting armour. Damage signals are registered across those areas on your HUD. You land nimbly on the floor and try to floor him with a ground sweep. He backflips over and whilst inverted fires a full burst of 100mm at you from point blank.
You avoid by using your sweeping legs thrusters to push you out of the way you boost backwards into a the damaged office buildings that Bernard is using for cover.

The Blue GM lands. And Hovis fires. The Blue GM dodges.
But not quite quick enough, the beam grazes the left side of the Mobile Suits head, leaving it white hot. The head shakes for a fraction of a second and then almost humourously, it begins spewing 45mm vulcan ammo from it's head ports before they can cook off in the ammo hoppers.

You order the team to redeploy backwards before the Blue Mobile Suit can take advantage, and you toss a couple of Cracker grenades towards the enemy to keep them supressed.
Whilst the other are moving back you grab a Stick-Bomb Grenade and toss it at the advancing Blue GM. Almost casually it catches it and tosses back at you.
Equally casually you shoot the 'nade moments after it leaves his hand with your Beam Carbine
The concussive explosion knocks the Blue Suit to the left, mostly in the form of a dodge, but this distracts it enough so it doesn't notice a high speed Zolomon Ringo headbutt directly into it's midsection.

It get's pushed back through the dissapaiting explosion and the two roll about on the open space between the cover you were using and the enemies. Zol rolls upright and sweeps his left claw along the ground, Blue jumps over, it's 100m ready, but what he isn't ready is for Zolomon's second arm to grab him at the knee and toss him back into the now ruined office block that you fell into a few moments ago.

You see the Blue GM has already picked themselves up and Zolomon's HyGogg is flopping around avoiding shots from the returning GM's as it dashes back into cover. You prepare you self to dive through the building and take the enemy by suprise when somebody else steals your thunder.

From the large flanking towerblock erupts a customised Efreet with red shoulders, the high-pitched whine becomes an almost painful osscillating squealing and you see the Blue GM turn to face it.
Missiles craze around it and it dodges around it, only for those same missiles to explode behind it, pushing the GM forwards in into close combat with the Efreet, which brandishes a pair of glowing Heat Swords. Sparks fly as a barely dodged slice gouges a glowing line across the GM torso and it dives backwards, another slice severing off a finger from it's hands, which lands next to you sparking.

"Commander Lister, five months ago, when we were first here, you saved my life when our unit was cut off from the rest in the Jungle. Now. It's my turn to repay the favour. Get out of here, and meet up witht he Mashiba team."

You agree to his plan and then supress the enemy in cover some more with another burst from your Beam Carbine.

You quickly move back to find the rest of your team.
"Sorry I couldn't get a shot off David, he's was just moving around to fast." Hovis explains.

"That's fine. Our man in the Efreet says he can handle him, so were going to make his job easier and take out that Blue Suits support. We'll flank around on both sides. Zolomon, you Bernie and Elaine go left, I'll take Jolyne and Calvin and go right, Hovis you try to get a better firing position to assist us from here."

    "Roger!" they all chorus.

"Also, what's the SitRep on the Infantry Team?"

"Bomb's are deployed, they're making their extraction now. Should be no more 5 more minutes."

"Then that's our deadline. We'd better get things moving."

Split into two teams you dash off. Flames from earlier explosions are beginning to spread, and set off explosions of their own. With a bit of luck the remaining Demo-Charges should finish the job.

Mobing quickly through rubble and still intact buildings you quickly manage to outflank the enemy in a couple of minutes.

It sort of does both. Yes it gives NT or Near NT ability to the pilot, but it also has a mildly disruptive effect on nearby newtypes due to it being powered by Vivsected Newtype Brains.

No. I'm not making that up.
    >> Anonymous 07/09/10(Fri)17:47 No.11036942

It does both, but the disrupting effect was an accident. The system was based off a Newtype that was experimented on and eventually dissected, and her brain was basically copied into the Blue Destiny MS. That lets the computer interface with the pilot on a telepathic level and grant them nearly newtype abilites, but it's also massively unstable and prone to going berserk, since it IS based off a woman they tore apart to make it, so people say the system contains parts of her soul.

You dash around the corner, Jolyne and Calvin backing you up, a Beam Carbine in one hand, the Beam Spray Gun in the other. Dual weilding you spray the enemy with fire. Limbs fly and at least 2 GM's are permanently taken out of action. The rest turn to face you as you dive into cover. Bullets and beams fly about your position. The beams thankfully flying over your head.
Jolyne and the rest draw their fire, but have to take cover due to it's weight.

Then Zolomons team attack from the rear. A GM Command explodes when Zolomon lands on it in a death from above, landing on it's shoulder and forcing it into the ground, he leaps into the middle of the remaining 2 GM's who leap backwards to avoid him. The rest of his team pour on fire around them and they just keep retreating.

    "Do we pursue?" Zolomon asks.

"No time! Back to the infantry, so we can get out of here." You reply.

"What about our Blue Guy?" Jolyne asks.
You look over to your left, just in time to see the Blue GM escape through the hole made by the Efreet Custom, with the Efreet in hot pursuit.
At the speed they were going, you don't think you could keep up.

"Roger, our ETA is 15 minutes."

You arrive at North East entrance door, it's the same as most of the ones you've seen previously today, the Infantry troops move to the internal door controls, and thankfully their easier to open from this side rather than the outside. Within minutes the doors are opening.

You finally get outside and scan the area. Alarms are going off every, and every so often dust falls from the ceiling from explosions on the surface.
There are no enemies in the nearby area, but you take cover behind a rock formation.

"I'm clear, I lost the enemy, and I don't know if he's escaped or not. Bring it down now."
    You push the button.

    MEANWHILE

The fighting on the surface had started as heavy, tense and bitter, and had stayed that way. Sargeant March and his Dom team had been making hit and run attacks to break tight knots of enemy formations and to allow stranded units to rejoin with the main forces all morning.
Only now the enemy had gotten wise, and started trying to encircle them, using the underground networks to shuttle Mobile Suits faster than the Dom's could redeploy on this heavy jungle terrain.

"We have to make a break out Sargeant."

"I know that Private!" He barked back, scanning the topography, graffitied with his own typed notes in Arial Black Font.

"We'll have to try and make a dash and gun assault on this point here at Grid Refercence 13-C, the main enemy forces don't seem to fully encircled us yet, the enemy troops might by too dispersed to stop us if we hit them at full speed!"

    "Roger!"
    "Right!"

He had a good feeling about this plan, that should have been his first warning mused, not when his wingman took a Beam shot to the lower torso, causing his entire suit to explode in a fireball. The enemy had a set up an MS foxhole in the area, one of those Sniping GM's that had been giving the assault forces so much grief this entire mission.

His Bazooka shot went wide, impacting harmlessly on the reinforced concrete. For years to come he would wake up from nightmares of the ignition light of the enemies Beam Rifle winking on.

But at that point, a GIGANTIC explosion obscured his camera's and threw him and his remaining teamate back on their collective asses. Leaving a large smoking mushroom cloud floating upwards.
The two of them picked themselves back up, and used the large sinkhole crater to escape the cordon before the enemy could fill the gap.

"See Sarg, I told you getting that Nachtmaren paintjob would be lucky!"

The Outer Heaven doesn't have any suits in it. It used up it's space to carry your current loadout into combat.
It could probably do limited repairs on your suits though if you linked back up with them. That would requiring going topside though, and I doubt they have enough parts to replace a whole lost arm.

Triage units had been set up hastily inside what used to be the mess hall of the GHQ.
That Converted Fuel Air Bomb Train had been a damn nasty suprise, and one that would have been impossible if the techs over in the MS Production Block had followed security procedure and scrubbed the route logs after leaving like they were supposed to.

The explosion had knocked out 6 mobile suits, devestated the soft defenses on the east side entrance and badly damaged the hard static defences. Field Engineers and fire-fighting crews were still trying to put the 6th Anti-Armour gun-tower out.

Because of their losses they'd had to call the Mobile Suits Guarding the Auxiliary Surface entrace to shore up defenses which had allowed an enemy Special Unit to gain access to the base interior. If it hadn't been for Lt. Agar's team being so far off their supposed patrol route that they stumbled right on top of them by accident, they'd have been in all kinds of trouble.

Still, at least the G-3 had made it to the GHQ unmolested. Along with it's pilot.

... It's also worthy to note that at no point in the Nachtmaren's history were they ever truly FORCED to retreat. True there were situations at Pezun and Solomon where they were ordered to withdraw, but at no point in their short but eventful existence did they ever actually retreat due to their own tactical circumstances.
In several cases, the Nachtmaren were thought to be retreating, only for them to appear at their attackers flanks, sometimes mere minutes after falling back.

Never did David Lister use the word "retreat" except when appended with the words "Tactical", "Fighting" or "Never".
