For some reason I now have the strange urge to go kill Jedi, what's that all about.
Anyway, aside from being two more threads away from creating /tg/ history, today marks the start of the second invasion on Jaburo.

You are Commander David Lister, ace Mobile Suit pilot and leader of the feared Nachtmaren Unit. It's not been the best of times lately, the Federation have got mobile suits, Zeon's split itself into 3 seperate factions, 2 of which are at war with each other and you and your family are now technically homeless.
On the plus side, you still kick absurd amounts of ass in bleeding edge technology Mobile Suits and your about to invade Jaburo.

    Again.

Last week we worked out a roster and general plan of attack, today we put it into action.

You and the Mashiba squad you rescued a fortnight ago will be using the disused water intake to infiltrate deep into the bowls of the base whilst the primary froces conduct an air drop assault on the base from above.

You are currently aboard your mothership, the Outer Heaven, mounted up in your Act Zaku.

    ANY QUESTIONS?

It was discussed, but it was decided against in the end.
Were in the Act Zaku, and we brought 3 Hygoggs, a Zock and a pair of Z'Goks.
    I think.

Also, what's the Act Zaku's loadout? I assumed that were taking the Beam Carbine...

Does the Beam Carbine have more punch up close? I think it has a larger battery than the standard rifle right?

If not we might want to take a standard beam rifle if we have one aboard. Also do we have a lot of remote detonation charges for taking out the rails?

Angle of approach was much the same as before, secretly deploy under cover from minovsky/decoy pods launched from the Outer Heaven, and use the distraction of the oncoming main force to make your way undetected, underwater, to the water intake.

The Outer Heaven (and the Mashiba Teams, Lili Marleen) will then aid the Air Assault Force as Air Support assets until you need them for extraction.

    >>10886534

The Carbine has a shorter effective range and clip size, but fires in bursts of 3 and E-Clips are relatively small (about the size of 90mm's magazines) So it causes more damage up close.

We should take a few cracker grenades for clearing out nests of anti-MS. We could also set up det charges on Guntank paths and the railways. Crippling entire sections of the base as we move to let our boys in is always a good idea.

    Okay then.

The two Zanzibars streak ahead of the Gaw fleet and it's mixed escorts. If this battle goes the way it should, the war could be over tommorow.
Of course, you've been on the front line too long to expect these things to go as planned.

It's still dark when you begin approaching Jaburo's defesive line, according to your Operator Anita, you've been using lingering Minovsky clouds to avoid radar detections but the IR sensors over the base will surely pick you up soon.

Captain Mauser calls for action stations, and you perform the final checks on your Act Zaku before the drop. Red Alerts begin sounding as Jaburo finally spots the two Zanzibars and launches SAM's and redirects patrolling Aircraft and you feel the ship jink to the left and the right and hear the *thunk* *thunk* of it launching pylon mounted noisemakers.

The drop light blinks to green and the doors open. With a somewhat disorderly if practiced scramble the Nachtmaren unit leaps into the air.
The air rushes past you at 600 meters as you fall towards the jungles, to your left you see Cima's Gyan Marines launch out of the Lili Marleen.

    The attack has begun.

    BRB Dinner.

So guys, had this dream awhile back. David was in the Act Zaku riding a cargo lift up out of some hanger that was on fire. Had a Gundam series beam rifle. Get's to the top and it turns out to be the inside of a colony. It wasnt an O'niel cylinder, I think it was a torus type with subdivided sections because you could only see so far. The floor of the colony seemed fairly flat and there were fogged windows above giving diffused lighting.
There's a flash outside and then what I guess were mass driver rounds come smashing down through the windows all over the place trailing flame. Basicly it's like the sky is falling/on fire. Anyways out from begind some of the plumes of flame swings an MS/MA of some kind, lining up for a shot with it's big gun. (I've since identifyied it as the HFA-78-3Heavy Full Armor Gundam
    http://www.mahq.net/mecha/gundam/m-msv/hfa-78-3.htm )
At whish point david dodges to the left, avoids the shot and jumps through another set of cargo doors.

    Woke up after that.

That's a very strange dream. I think you should lay off the cheese before bed from now on arty.

Sorry about the delay, I got distracted when I went to check whether Andy Murray was Scottish yet.
    He is.

At 300 meters you right yourself and hit your retro-thursters, the rest of your squad pop their Parachutes and drift towards the river network. The Flak continues to ignore you and concentrate on the fleeting forms of the Cruisers and you manage to make it to the river unmolested.

    "Status report?"

You order Jolyne and Zolomon to submerge the barge whilst ordering the rest of your team to take out any Mobile Suits that leap off.

The barges is quickly dragged underwater, you see a GM fall into the water sideways and a beam shot from Calvin's Z'Gok E takes it out.
Bubbles and steam distort your vision for a second and you see a GM land awkwardly near the bank, his legs submerged. The steam is probably him firing his Beam Pistol into the river, unaware his shots aren't doing much of anything.
Hovis angles himself and pops up momentarily with you aboard.
You see the hapless GM pilot react in suprise before Hovis takes him out with his heavy beam cannons.

You check the pitch black dusk sky. No signs of flares or other signalling attempts. Looks like they didn't get a warning off. Minovsky desnity is at 60% in this area, so they probably weren't able to get off a radio message.

Unlikely, since Fed and Zeon MS likely have different palm interface ports. It might be done if a connection could be jury-rigged together given enough time in a machine shop. Even so, the Act Zaku is the only suit we have now that can actually use hand weapons, and it's fully loaded as is.

The Feddie beam weapons are largely inferior to ours. Plus all our current suits either can't carry them (no articulated hands on the Hygoggs, Zock or Z'Goks) or have better stuff already (the Act Zaku's beam carbine).

You tell the team to move on, you pocket on of the Beam Spray pistols, as it might come in useful later on.
Your hand ports are still Fed/Zeon cross compatible after all.

You continue towards the destination, keeping a lookout for any further distractions. Travelling through the black waters of Jaburo on IR sensors is slow going but you make it without any further interruptions.
Looks like you got lucky with that Barge.

The entranceway is large enough (just) for a Zock to fit through, but first you have to remove a giant metal grille.

Elaine and Zolomon get to work cutting off the bars with their beam cannons, and in about 5 minutes you have your secret entrance into Jaburo.

TIME TO MAIN ATTACK 20 MINUTES

You dismount the Zock and take the lead behind you the rest of your team follow in single file, the Zock taking up the rear, scrapes in, but the tunnel widens slightly after the entrance so there's little chance of it getting stuck.
The Mashiba Team has since caught you up and follows your unit directly.

You see lights ahead, and hope none of your Commando's got caught or else this is going to be a really ugly ambush that you're not going to enjoy fighting your way out of.

The area widens out into a large pool area, water purification turbines, no in some state of disuse are in front of you.

You carefully poke your head above water.
Nobody shoots it off. Which is always a good sign.
You walk up the sloped concrete shoreline and scan the are, no hostiles. You see a waving figure sitting on a disused oil drum.

you ask Incognito how the Commando mission has progressed whilst your infantry get themselves ready.

"Well, things have gone pretty well all considering. Only 3 of them were caught, none of them successfully captured and we've managed to put dormant locator beacons on about 45 targets of oppourtunity so the Mashiba team can feel free to let loose whenever."

"And the Mobile Suit production facilities?"

"That's a little more problematic. Security around that facility was too tight to gain entrance to. Plus they like to keep the development block moving. We were able to plant a beacon on the external housing, but we've got no idea what's inside. The doors themselves are Luna Titanium so you'll need beam weaponry to enter. The Command Section was easier to plant a beacon on, but it's probably more heavily defended. Good luck with those. You're going to need it."

Midway through your talk, you hear air-raid sirens from down the long tunnel from the Purification plant that lead into the base proper. Evidently the main assault force has been detected.

The Infantry teams are about half way through mounting up, and will probably take another 5 before they're ready.

Cima approaches you in her Command Gyan Marine.

"My team is ready to go Commander, shall we head out now?"

You know, given what Incognito just said about the MS and command facilities, I'm going to go ahead and say we all relax, have a snack, and share pictures of our families with the redshirts for about 20 minutes.

I want those feddy forces TOTALLY distracted by the surface attack. Hopefully that will draw enemy MS's away from our targets as they go to repel the surface invasion.

We're kinda on our own, and any help we can get we should take.

Lots of choice targets. I say we go for the command bunker first and try to decapitate their leadership. Capture/Kill Revil if we can and all that jazz. Otherwise going straight for the development block and blasting down the lunar doors with beam spam before some punk newtype can jump in a half-finished super gundam or something is a good bet.

If we can determine which of the important blocks we can get to the fastest then we go for it first. Keep the Feds scrambling now that their forces are going to be looking at the surface and not their own base.

We shouldn't wait that long. Just long enough for the infantry to get ready. I want the Feds having to divide their forces from an internal attack right when our boys get in their firing range. The more confusion we can cause for the Feds in the first few minutes the better.

I'd at least let the Wappas scout a little so we don't trip over some Anti-MS nests first. But yes hitting them where it hurts fast is always a good idea, especially when they start dragging back tons of forces from the front to deal with an unexpected attack on their bloody high command.

Also Cima's team can handle themselves so we should divide and conquer in this case. Unless they don't have beam weapons that is.
    >> Anonymous 07/02/10(Fri)15:22 No.10889562
Both the production facilities and the command area have benefits and I think if we're going to hit one, we hit only one as hard as we can. Short term, the command bunker will help in this battle as far as I can think of but long term the development block will help Zeon in the long term. This assault is just meant to cripple Jaburo right? It might be best to try to take out the development area then and ignore the command area so we can maximize damage.

Cima's group is fitted for close combat, apparently, so they probably don't have beam weaponry.

Still, if Revil's in his command HQ, killing him just minutes before the Zeon troops hit will cause mass chaos. While that's going on we can blow up the production facilities while the enemy defense is still disorganized.

Killing him within a short amount of time won't be easy though. Incognito said it was heavily defended. We will be taking losses or heavy damage, which will limit what we can do to the development block. There's no guarantee we even can kill the guy. If we fail, we gain nothing. At least if we hit the development block, we're guaranteed to do damage to the Fed army in the long-term. That's the way I see it at least.

Also if we know the Development block is moving a lot wouldn't that tell us a few things about how blocks are moving around Jaburo in general. That could be useful for cutting off blocks in transit.

guys, I can't approve of ignoring the command structure in favor of the production facilities

Look at it this way: Blowing the Command center up is going to make everything easier for everyone. Even if they have secondary and tertiary command posts, those are valuable minutes that will be spent organizing the changeovers. This works in Zeon's favor.
Blowing up command will make taking out production easier for us as they are more disorganized.

I understand our long term goals here, but we have a rare surprise attack opportunity that will pay off in huge rewards throughout this attack. If we go for production first, it's almost guaranteed that our attack on the command center will be 2, even 3 times more difficult as they would have time to reinforce.

We need to drop the full hammer on that command center and send them scrambling, it will buy us time and opportunity, and make everyone's jobs easier both above and below ground.

blowing up the production center will not impact their combat capable forces in this battle. We will not get a surrender no matter how much infrastructure we destroy if infrastucture is ALL we destroy.

As for Revil, he is not that important. In fact, he may be one of the more stalwart anti-zeon leaders that is responsible for such a unified federation effort. Killing him has the potential to divide federal command on it's opinions of continuing to wage a war. This works in our favor.

Furthermore, if we hit production first there's no guarantee that they wont evacuate key personnel before we can get to the command center. And then, after a knock-down bloody fight where we could potentially lose a lot of people in the HQ assault, we find out we didn't really get anyone important.

We have to send a message here: That you are not safe, not even down in your impregnable fortress. There is nowhere you can sleep at night that Zeon can't find and get you.

If we take the Command center first, the production facility is a cake walk.
If we take production first, the command center is an uphill battle with potentially zero net gain and high losses.

Ooh explosives. What sort of blast radius do our grenades have? If we could go charging straight through them at top speed and drop the grenades once we're past it could cause quite a ruckus. Maybe cause the tank barracks to collapse in on itself?

You opt for the direct route, and make full speed straight towards the MS Production facilities. You see federal troops point at you as you dash forwards. You manage to make it past the Fuel Depot without running into anything heavier than a jeep although the pyrotechnics that ensue from you tossing a grenade into the depot as you leave probably got some attention.

Your Wappa teams report in: "We've got a Tank company and squad of mobile suits advancing up ahead, it looks like they're using a pair of stone pillars as cover!"

You pull out your Beam Carbine and semi-stealthily (you're in 18 meter tall robots afterall) advance forward. A beam spraygun shot flies over your head and you return fire and take cover behind a cluster of large stalagmites. Shots and explosions craze around you and you order Hovis to take out those pillars with his beam cannons. Steam billows from his collant vents as he fires off a salvo into the enemies direction. Explosions follow.

You pop your head up and add to the weight of fire, a 180mm shell bounces off your head, partially spoiling your aim.
The rest of your team throws in their own firepower and you see both pillars collapse and crumble.
Then rocks start to fall from the ceiling.
    Big ones.
The roof over the area appears to be collapsing thanks to your efforts here, and possibly the large explosions from the fuel depot.

"Charge!" You yell at the rest of your squad as the ceiling begins to collapse you rush the now disrupted enemy troops as they try to flee as well, explosions rock around you as chunks of rock and dirt the size of houses falls around you.

You pick yourself up after a few seconds and order a sitrep.

You have the Hovis escape from the downed Zock and take a ride with the Wappa troops whilst they set up charges on the downed MA.
You then quickly continue on your way, it's a fair bet that this is going to attract attention.

After a few more minutes of running you get close to the MS development block, you have the Wappa's scout ahead, and their report isn't positive.

"We've got a large Lunar Titanium door, easily large enough for an MA to pass through, protected by about four reinforced Anti-Armour towers with rockets and heavy guns. A cluster of sandbagged HMG nests and about 4 GM pattern mobile suits. Looks like Command pattern units, a mix of Beam Weapons and solid weapons."

What armaments is Zolomon capable of using?
We'd better destroy the enemy beamers using surprise, and use anything as cover vs. the return fire of rocket spam.
Lob some nades into the HMG nests, and attack the rocket-firing towers at long range from cover until smoke covers the area from all the destruction.

You prime a Stikk-Bomb and Cracker each and toss them both at the enemy gate. You then lead the charge with your Beam Carbine the others pile in whilst the Grenades have them supressed firing with you.
You see Elaine launch a Minovsky spreader pod in the floor to disrupt the enemy commo and any guided missiles they might have.
Jolyne dashes forward and swipes at a GM Command with her claws, the mobile suit loses an arm and is brutally thrown to the floor whilst you turn your attentions to a Concrete defence tower which is still standing.
You slice at it with your Heat Hawk, the weapon gouges great chunks of concrete away from the building, but it holds, the impact activates minor stress warning lights up your arm, but a second strike topples it.
The battle is quickly over. Elaine's got a badly damaged left Pauldron, and a couple of the Wappa's got hit, but otherwise you're team is fine.

You can't be sure if the enemy got a signal off though.
Now, you need to open the door...

don't send hovis, he'll get dead.
    But here's the plan
Fire through the hole in the door
Have everyone who can fit through the door (but not hovis) infiltrate and make ready the explodings.
Get Cima the fuck in here.
Shoot through the door trying to get some incidentals while breaching a MS-sized hole
Upon breaching, FIRE ALL THE EXPLOSIONS and then bust through the door SWAT style (i.e. nobody stands in the friggin' doorway, everyone keeps moving until everyone is through)
    Lister should go through first.
Cima should be nearby and ready to barge right the fuck through the door and/or spam some explosives through the holes as well.

Indeed, Hovis is thoroughly useless at this point. Send him in with the commandos and have them plant charges while he tries to steal something. Then right before we bust though the door, have them set off the charges/Hovis attack. Give it a good 30 count, then bust down the door and attack.

Anyway, infiltrate the door, make ready the huge fucking explosions™ as a minor distraction, breach the fuck out of the door and Waaagh! in guns blazing.

I think this'll work. The advantage even a single Feddie-but-really-Zeon MS hitting them in the back when this starts will create is easily worth two or three potential dead Fed MS and potentially gives us a breach in their fire to scoot through and mop up the rest.

Okay, you order your infantry and they make for infiltrating the production block. Some of them dragging their Wappa's through the small opening.

Meanwhile you, Bernie and Calvin continue to cover the HyGogg's. Gradually more and more enemy resistance is coming your way.
    "Boss! Were through!" Zolomon reports.

"Infantry team! Are the charges in place!"

"Roger, charges are in place, the infiltration team are on radio silence though, we don't know how their doing."

"Good enough. Elaine! Jolyne! Get this door down!"

They push the Luna-titanium sillouette and after a solid couple of pounds it falls inwards. Explosions and smoke bombs follow.
A barrage of beam and rockets fly your way, and your team takes cover to avoid them. You replace the E-Clip on your Beam Carbine and return fire, your supressing fire things the barrage, and Zolomon risks it and slides in through the hole on his MS's belly.
    More explosions follow.

"Everybody in! Get through the breach before the smoke clears!" You order as you toss another Cracker grenade through the hole. Calvin takes a couple of shots with his Z'Gok E and bravely risks it he takes a couple of bullets to his armoured cowling, but takes no serious damage.
The rest are able to follow suit before the smoke completely clears and you make your way in as the rest of Nachtmaren has managed to draw the enemies fire away from the door.
You take out an enemy FanFan as it rushes towards you just before you enter with your beam weapon.

    GOODBYE MR WOODY.

You quickly enter the combat zone. It appears to be heavy industrial with plenty of cover, even for a Mobile Suit. You can see Zolomon and Jolyne in close combat with 3 GM's a headless smoking wreck of another to the side.
Elaine is trying to keep another team of Early Ground Type GM's supressed with her Beam Guns, but her rate of fire is dropping as her weapons overheat, but it's allowing Bernie and Calvin time to outflank them. Meanwhile your infantry are taking potshots with their Anti-Armour Bazooka's at what appears to be another GM Command.

There is minimal cover just standing in the entranceway.

After taking the oppourtunity to take down the distracted GM Command and you then finish off the rest of the GMs that Zolomon and Elaine are tangling with.
Together the three of you flank the second squads combatants and are able to destroy them in a pincer movement.

After taking up defensive positions you take stock. Jolyne's lost a shoulder pauldron to a beam hit, and her conneting shoulder joint is responding sluggishly. The heat exchanges on the beamgun have also been damaged, that will badly effect it's rate of fire.
On that subject Elaine's beam guns have completely overheated and are unsusable from now on.
You lost 3 Wappa riders in the firefight.
Still no word from Hovis and the others.
