But it kind of is, how would you run Planes and mercs for WW2?

I'm thinking of running a game where the players operate in and around WW2, as a band of mercenaries.

The Air War rules don't cover the period I want to play in. Any help?
    >> Anonymous 06/25/10(Fri)10:15 No.10733788
I think the air war rules could easily be tweaked to allow for ww2 combat.

    >FLYING TIGERS

China is the perfect location for this.

You've got a lot of potential. Chinese warlords who are barely cooperating to fight the chinese. Nationalist and Communist Chinese factions.

Early in the war Japan crushed all opposition in China as far as air-power is concerned. So when you first start out they've not got much in the way of strength there. Outdated planes and inexperience pilots and flight crews.

However as the mercs/PCs cause more and more damage to Japanese holdings in China, increasingly better aircraft and more experienced pilots get diverted to the theater to deal with this newfound annoyance.

And of course, they eventually throw a squadron of aces at the Mercs/PCs. Perhaps lead by an Ace Luftwafffe "Instructor" on loan from the Germans.

OP again shouldn't take Hueys. Single engine unarmored turretless flying target piece of shit. Fun to fly but easy to shoot down.

Pre WW2 Asia was all infantry, French and Brits, trade routes and racism. A squad of mercenary pilots with even the simplest planes would be of great tactical advantage, although more in reconnaissance than in battle.
Totally viable as a dieselpunkish alternate history rpg. With a GM who knows his history this would be awesome.

You should try Area 88, quite a few skyhawks in that.

Unfortunately with the exception of a couple named pilots (who eventually get newer aircraft), they're amongst the redshirts.
