The sun has set, it is now that time were it's just light enough to see, but you know it won't last much longer. The lights all around the park have come on. Dominating the immediate scenery is the Ferris Wheel, brightly light, like an Emperor's Day Tree. It towers over even the Roller Coasters. You begin to guide Emmie in that direction, your hands still clasped together.
Shockingly, the line is short, and you get seated before too long. This is one of the large Ferris Wheels that's normal a permanent attraction, not a traveling one, with small booths instead of merely seats. The ride operator sees the two of you, arm in arm, and gives you your own booth.
Slowly you rise higher and higher. The City spreads out before you, the lights brightening the night, and as the stars twinkle above you yo can't help but think about how, very soon, you'll be up there. You slip your arm around Emmie's shoulders and hold her close as she snuggles into your arms. She giggles and points "I think I see the apartment from here!" You reach the top of the circle, from here you can see beyond the city lights to the farmland that stretches for miles all around.
Slowly you turn to face Emmie, who is all smiles. You move one hand to her chin, holding it gently. She looks at you confused, but the moment feels right. You lean in touch your lips to hers. She tenses, but slowly relaxes, and returns your kiss. You slowly begin to descend.
With a casual hand gesture, the ride operator skips your booth and loads the next one, allowing you to continue the moment. |
