    The sound of harsh wind awakens you. You try to open your eyes, but pain stops you.
    "Here," you hear Garfield's voice. "Let me help you..."
    The soreness and ache of your body slowly wash away. You sit up, finding yourself lying on bare, sunbaked stone.
    "What....the..."
    You are on a mountainside, a vast expanse in view around you. Beyond that, you have no idea where you are. Nearby is a cool looking pool of water. You stand shakily, noticing that there is no puncture on your abdomen.
    "I feel...different," Garfield says. Looking at your bare skin, you can see dark runic patterns swirling slowly all over you, blood pooling under and over your skin. You try to walk forward, but you feel a heavy weight behind you. Looking back, you can see thin, membranous stretches of blood bursting out of your shoulder blades. You stagger over to the pool of water, taking a long drink. It tastes cool going down, but you're still burning up with thirst. You take a look at your reflection.

    Your entire skin is covered in the shifting blood-runes. Your eyes, once tinged red, are now completely lacking in any other color, a deep crimson orb in each socket. Behind you, the winglike protrusions flex, slowly shrinking into your skin.
    "I feel....hungry..." You and Garfield both say.

    <YOUR BOND WITH YOUR BLOOD HAS INCREASED>
    <YOU NOW GATHER NOURISHMENT FROM YOUR BLOOD'S FEEDING>
    <YOU HAVE BEEN AESTHETICALLY ALTERED>
    <YOU HAVE DEVELOPED BLOOD-WINGS>

    You stand, wings now fully retracted into your veins. You shiver as the breeze picks up; your clothes have been all but destroyed by whatever sent you to this place, hanging off you in tatters. Looking around at the verdant slopes of the mountain range you are in, you notice that colors seem more vibrant; everything about this place seems more alive, subtly different in one way or another. There don't seem to be any signs of life, however. Your stomach rumbles, a vibration shared by your blood.

    You test your muscles carefully, concentrating as you feel the blood spanning out, forming your new wings. All told you have a wingspan of about 5 meters when the wings are fully extended, and when folded they stick well above your head. You pump your shoulders experimentally, trying to translate the movement into a proper manipulation of the blood.

    You take off at a jog, clumsily stumbling as the wind catches in the wings. You manage to flex them properly a few times, feeling the rush of wind and upward momentum. Your feet leave the ground for several impressive gliding jumps before one of your wings catches the wind wrong and snaps downward, sending you crashing onto the hard ground. You remain prone for several seconds, waiting for the dull throbbing pains to die down before slowly getting to your feet.

    You fail even to successfully stand after the nasty shock of your last crash, crying out as your punished shins give out. However, a crack of the neck and several deep breaths have you on your feet again, rotating your arm to stretch your shoulder.

    You stand very still, slowly flexing the wings and observing the breezes produced, the pull and tug on your torso. Slowly you begin manipulating the blood to surge more powerfully, wings kicking up a stiff breeze. Gradually, however, your feet no longer touch the ground, the wings providing sufficient lift for you to hover in place. Through experimentation, you learn the subtle shifts in weight that can control your direction, the pauses you need to dip in height without crashing to the ground. Soon you are soaring over the valleys below you, staying about twenty feet above the ground so that you will survive any crash that may occur

    You cast your eyes at the ground below as you coast lazily on the breezes. Learning to fly has made you ravenous. The mountains, however, begin to dwindle around you, and you are soon sailing over the vast undulating dunes of a great desert, while the jagged teeth of the mountains fade behind you.

    Ahead of you, through the sands, you can see some sort of city, and to the right of that city, further away, you can see the desert give way to grassy scrubland.

    You descend to earth to walk the last half mile or so to the city. Unfortunately you are in the middle of the desert, so there are no spare clothes to be found. You are still wearing only tatters as you approach the front gate, where stands a spear-wielding guard. Most of his face is obscured by a turban, and a sleek, pale cat rests on his shoulders.

    "Stop," he says as he sees you approach. "Go no further. What manner of beast are you?" he says, nodding his head in your direction. You look down at your rune-covered flesh. What manner of beast indeed.

    First, can Garfield do anything about the wound other than make it start bleeding? Like, hold it together with blood stitches from the inside or something? Infections suck.

    Second, take mental stock. Do we feel any more non-euclidean?

    Third, what is our terrain like? We should probably head back to the city and be like "Yeah, sorry guys... didn't think it would be a good idea to leave without finding some magic shit and forgotten tomes of mind-breaking lore. I know you guys must have it. How can I earn some dough to buy it?"

    1) we have no idea how long the road back will be.
    2) we have no idea bout the comparative time flows between the dream lands and the waking world. If we go off to kill monsters and gods but comeback to a world destroyed by 13 then what's the point.
    3) we have a week or so until the quest ends by timeout regardless of where we are in the story.

    Getting a good start, you take off from a run, enjoying the increasing skill and control you have over your wings. You dare to fly higher and higher as your journey continues, and this proves to be necessary, for the northward path soon has you winding upwards into tall mountains, harsh winds forcing your eyes into a squint.
    After several hours of flight, it begins to snow. Flakes batter against you, chilling you to your blood. Nevertheless, you press on, eager to get back to the waking world and your companions.
    Eventually you pass through the entire snowstorm, only to find that the mountains have ceased. Their peaks are behind you, and you are flying over the barren ice of the Plateau of Leng. A thick mist obscures your vision and forces you to fly low; within the mist you think you can see flittering shapes or bizarre colors. You are thankful for the robes in this biting cold, and even thankfuller when you see the dark shape of a castle-like monastery hove into view.

    You land, trudging through the knee-deep snow. The monastery seems to jut out of the snow at a strange angle, and seems wider at the top than the base, like some inverted pyramid cast into the snow. There is no door, but only the gaping maw of a doorway, beyond which no snow has entered.

    You step across the threshold into the darkened stone halls. Lit torches provide the only illumination, placed at seemingly arbitrary and asymmetrical locations. By what sputtering light there is, you can see that the walls are adorned with etchings and carvings, displaying in vivid, horrific detail frescoes of ritualistic torture and murder, and the worship of horrifying mindless deities that slaughter sacrifice and supplicant alike. You wander the halls, growing increasingly confused. At times the floor seems tilted, while at others you are walking on perfectly level ground. In your explorations you quickly lose track of where you are, growing nervous as you make your way through innumerable darkened rooms and halls.
    At last you enter a vault that appears almost well-lit. Within is a robed figure, who seems to be studying the walls, tracing the terrible etchings with one pale finger.
