If it is one thing Mankind is good at, its war. Civil Wars, World Wars, Religious Wars. Battle is in our blood and our history.

Even in this distant future, despite the fact that mankind has taken its first tentative steps to the stars, we still lock horns with each other.

Now its time to make your own mark upon history, and perhaps change it to your liking. Do you have what it takes?

Choose your Faction and Specialization and Name (note that you can take additional training for a different specialization if needed):

Pan Asian Alliance (PAA) - Has access to Advanced Mechs, standard vehicles/aircraft and standard infantry. Stealth tactics and Guerilla warfare specializations are available at start.

United European League (UEL)- Has access to standard Mechs and Standard vehicles, advanced aircraft and special infantry. Specializations unique to the UEL can be chosen for Infantry and Fighter Pilots.

Legitimate Government of America (LGA) - Has access to advanced Vehicles and aircraft, Standard infantry and Standard Mechs. LGA grants additional equipment.

The Seperatist Chinese State of Gucun - Has access to special infantry, standard vehicles and aircraft. No access to Mechs at this point of time. Advanced Anti-Armor Tactics and advanced survival training is automatically granted.

Classes: Infantry, Vehicle Operator, Pilot (Mech), Pilot (aircraft)

In addition to deciding on the name, lets get a few other things sorted out too.

    Stats - Roll a 1D10 for each.

Piloting Skill: general piloting skill, the higher this is, the better your machine can move. Also applies to Mech-to-Mech close combat.

Accuracy: What it says on the tin.

Endurance: Your physical fitness. Those piloting maneuvers or long combat times could take their toll on you. And lets not forget mow much stress some machines can inflict.

Charisma: Your ability to get along with others, and possibly even command them.

Pilot Skills: Essentially a little something to add flavor and make certain actions easier. (choose one)

Sharpshooter - you have an eye for details. and heads.

Up Close - Close combat with mechs is generally regarded as suicidal. You turn it to assisted suicide - and you'e not the one who dies.

Quick Reflexes - Dodging comes almost naturally to you.

You are Eric "Dundee" Raifedo. And you are one tough SOB.

A pilot of the Pan Asian Alliance, currently stationed at the border that seperates PAA Territory from the UEL - you are known most for getting up close to enemy mechs and tearing them apart in close combat. Your detractors say that you are insane behind your back. They usually end up eating their words later on.

The weather is currently cold with a side of rain, putting a damper on your mood as you sit on your bunk in the barracks. You swear that there's a leak somewhere as well.

In a few hours it'll be your turn to go out on patrol. What will you do until then?

You promptly march to the door, glaring at the rain as a fine sheet of it introduced itself to you. You figure that it would have been a good idea to get your coat FIRST before you head to the Mechanic's bay.

When you enter it you easily catch sight of the grease-monkeys working on the more badly damaged machines.

    "Yah. Yah. What you want?"

With a click of your tongue you convey your minor annoyance and ponder your next move. Clearly the Quartermaster was being a tremendous dick again, being tightfisted on supplies so he can have an easier time going through inventory.

You do however, get the brilliant idea to go search for a janitor to procure the electrical tape from. The problem is though, you have no idea where he is.

    Areas to search:
    Mess Hall
    Barracks 2 and 3.
    Rec Area
    Command and Control Area

You could also try the Officer's quarter. But that might not be the best idea.

    I got a question.
Regarding the 'Stealth tactics and Guerilla warfare specialisations' we got as part of the PAA package, does this only apply to the Infantry? Or do we have Fixed turret tanks with camo and ECM mechs as well?

Northern India, around the more tropical area. The parts of China that aren't now a part of Gucun are PAA territory - though they have to deal with plenty of harassment.

Naval Warfare isn't as effective due to the advancement of Aircraft. However, naval vessels still serve a purpose as staging/resupply areas and observation posts. Missile Subs are present but Nukes are on a last resort basis.

I'll work on mangling a map to give a better idea of how the World's been split up before I start the next session.

As for the Middle East, Africa and South America...

The Middle East is essentially neutral ground and completely independent. Their support usually tends to jump around depending on who can offer them a better deal.

Africa is an unstable mess between its own troubles as well as attempted occupation by both the PAA and the UEL. Both have some territory there but its a difficult to maintain position for both.

South America is semi-independent. Having ties to the LGA and the UEL.

You and Jack walk up to the Janitor, who is now slowly stepping off his ladder and regarding his handiwork.

    " 'Scuse me"

The janitor's attention is now on you. He raises an eyebrow.

"Yes, how can help you sirs? And I must ask you not to tell me it's another leak... I've been trying to fix them as fast as I can"

You cough lightly, clearly indicating that another leak was exactly the problem, leading to the janitor to let out a string of muttered cusses.

"But if it makes you feel better I'll be fixing it myself. You have any spare tape?"

At that he seems to be a little more relaxed.

"Tape? Yes. I think I have a spare roll. If you say you have a leak to deal with then you may as well keep it in case a dozen more decide to appear."

You got the tape you need. Do you proceed back to your barracks to patch up the hole? Or decide to drop by the Hangar?

With a grin you flip the roll of tape like a coin and catch it with ease. You and Jack proceed to the hangar. Which - unsurprisingly is also dealing with its own leaks.

As long as the machines are kept in working order though, you couldn't care less.

You are now standing before your Mech. "Salt-Water" - as you call it is more lightly armored than most machines, but its mobility, especially in these sort of conditions make it better than the clunkers the LGA tend to use.

Its primary weapons are a pair of heavy blades affixed to both its arms. Other weapons include a pair of shoulder mounted machineguns for anti-infantry work, as well as a torso mounted grenade launcher.

There are sections on the Salt-Water that allow it to hook up a camo cloak, making it as difficult to see as it is to pick you up on sensors with the ECM unit installed.

Hrm. Can't believe I just picked this image up...

I check for any leaks directly above and around my mech. Also make sure that the ammo (if it's loaded) is dry. I'm sure the cogboys take care of these things but better safe than sorry.

Make sure jack checks his too.
    >> OPs Chief 01/20/12(Fri)05:20 No.17604800
    >>17604766

From the look of things you're one of the lucky ones. While there are leaks close to your mech, there's none that would make maintenance a nightmare.

Rearmament on the other hand... checking through the ammunition you spot that the magazines that were loaded onto the Salt-Water were a bit waterlogged.

You call attention to this to the mechanics, a pair of them running over to switch them out.. or at least find a way to make the contents usable, you catch one of them muttering that with the Quartermaster being an ass it was hard to actually get ammo that wasn't fucked over by the rain. Your decision to double-check was perhaps a very sound choice.

Jack, who was skeptical about doing a check of his own, promptly got to it once he saw what happened with Salt-Water.

He was probably in a slightly more difficult situation what with the leaks above his own machine. The loud curses you hear from him pretty much confirm that fact.

Check the damage on Jack's mech. Also see if we can get some tarps in here to keep the mechs dry, and if the quartermaster complains perhaps we should give the man a piece of our mind.

    Also. What time is it?
    >> OPs Chief 01/20/12(Fri)05:38 No.17604859
    >>17604831

Jack's mech has been particularly bent over by the rain. His machine's primary purpose was ranged anti-armor tactics. And from the looks of it the rainwater may have caused some damage to the missile launchers and one of his two cannons.

His ammunition however is not in the same state as yours. Mostly because it wasn't loaded yet. It wasn't soaked though so that was one small mercy.

When you bring up using tarp to keep the mechs dry, the mechanics claim that they had some, but there wasn't enough to go around since they had to split it with the motor pool.

It looks like you're going to have to have a few words with the Quartermaster.

You pause for a moment to check the time. Five-Fourty PM. you have at least another hour and a few minutes before your patrol. Hopefully the mechanics can get things fixed up by then.

Seems like having the spat with the Quartermaster would run into our patrol time. Better not start a fight until we're back from patrol. Since we do have some time, perhaps we should fix that leak. If we get home late we won't be able to muster up the effort of patching it.

What kind of personal gear is required for these patrols? Eg. Do we need night vision goggles or is that supplied by the in-mech HUD? Personal armaments? Do we have a service pistol? Combat knife? Survival it? How long are these patrols and are they mixed arms? Will we be in a squad of mechs or be part of a infantry convoy?
    >> OPs Chief 01/20/12(Fri)05:57 No.17604928
    >>17604886

Fixing the leak now rather than later seems to be a prudent action. Given the weather the time spent out may be a little longer than usual.

You head back to find that there is a damp patch at a different part of the ceiling and that the leak has gotten a little larger...

    Perfect.

D20 to fix the leak as well as potentially prevent another one.

In regards to personal gear, it would always be wise to be a little prepared in case your machine goes down. There is a survival kit with the rest of your belongings, you are already carrying your knife and pistol.

Your HUD already provides Low-Light Vision but it wouldn't hurt to err on the side of caution.

Patrols usually last a few hours and are often made up of a small group of vehicles accompanied by a squad of mechs. However given the conditions it seems that numbers may be smaller than usual if the rain has had its way with the Motor Pool like it did with the Mech Hangar.

And with the poor visibility patrols may be extended as a precaution.

Thankfully you are sufficiently prepared for the patrol. You suppress a shudder because of the chill the rain was giving you.

You leave the hangar accompanied by Jack and the two other members of your squad:

Hong Huang, your sensor specialist - who was born on the PAA side of China. His machine is loaded up purely with anti-infantry and ant- air weapons. He takes great pleasure in shredding both to bits, mostly because of his hate of the Sepratist Movement.

    And

Aarushi Haryana - The closest thing your squad has to a marksman. Her focus is purely on anti-mech tactics and works closely with Hong. Depending on his sensor input.

As your squad makes its way to the base's entrance you catch sight of the vehicles accompanying you. Two Combat ATVs armed with machineguns and an APC with eight soldiers - Three of them loaded up with anti-armor weapons in addition to their usual kit.

Smaller numbers than you would have hoped. The chill you're feeling is back with a vengeance, and somehow you get the feeling its not just the rain.

MAV sounds good, though maybe different designations for each faction's mechs may serve to further identify them.

As for the odd numbers, blame mechanical screwups and the base slowly falling apart.

You let the others know about the chill you're getting and inform them to stay alert.

Considering you're the man who punches mechs (albeit with your own) this definitely is a cause for concern.

It takes a while to get things organized, but you manage to get moving to your positions without incident.

You spot at least three heavily armored machines, all loaded with enough missiles to level an entire town if used correctly.

There's a lightly armored mech present that seems to bear no weapons at all. But you can pick out the presence of several target painters and fire control modules.

The other two are moderately armored but are both armed with a handheld gatling cannon, along with a pair of mortars on each shoulder.

Most of the vehicles are Supply Trucks and APCs. You spot a large amount of personnel, support and combat milling about.

Two of the Siege Mechs seem to be bogged down, having stepped in the wrong spot. And their designated targetter has fallen over.

If they can't paint us, they can't kill us. Targeters are the primary target for Aarushi.
Medium-class mechs seem to be Med-to-Long fighters, so Erik should hit-and-run in CQC attacks as well as pepper the ground forces with his shoulder cannons.
Have Jack attack the standing Siege Mech with his rocket. Lock-on to either the cockpit or the missiles (to set off a chain explosion) with his camo activated.
Hong plays crowd control for the other two for the ground forces if they get uppity. Otherwise, stay in cover and paint targets for Aarushi.
Anti-Armor should prioritize the Siege Mech and Light Mech. Normal infantry provides cover fire for Anti-Armor.

Aarushi's second shot all but flattens the targeter. While it does not explode, its certainly going to be nothing more useful than scrap metal and so few spare parts.

You send the Salt-Water in with a Daring Manuever (tm)! You send your machine's fist across the Gatling-Mech's head, scrapping its main cameras before forcing it between you and it's comrade. The results to both when their weapons fired is...so very messy.

Alarms start ringing in your cockpit! You've taken damage to your right shoulder, upper left leg and the side of your right knee!. Your mobility has been hampered and the use of your right shoulder Machinegun has been nullified!

Jack's rocket hits his target in its right Missile Rack. The Explosion is brilliant, and in Jack's words "A Late New Year's lightshow". The Siege Mech falls over on its side from the force of the explosion. Its down, but not out though!

The Rockets that were fired at Hong had barely even done any damage! It was as if his armor was laughing in contempt at the attack. Hong's reply to the mess done to his paint-job was to send his Mech jogging towards the infantry that tried it to give the Red Mist a fresh coating of blood on the bottom of its foot.

The SLAWs don't do much damage, but they sure have sent the pilot of their target reeling! The Siege mech is stumbling backwards.

The Siege Mech that Aarushi had first shot however was now recovering, and was attempting to aid its downed comrade by aiming at Jack in preparation for unleashing its payload!

You try to tell Hong to get the pilot alive... unfortunately you're a fraction of a second too late as he unleashed bullet HELL and reduced the target to a smear on the ground.

    Jack was.... unimpressed.

"Jesus Mate! You ever heard of overkill?"

"Well he should have stayed inside if he wanted to live."

    "You're a fuckin fruit loop."

Letting this little conversation play out without your attention you check in with the infantry.

"Oy! You and your mob found anything exy in there?"

"We've mostly got spare parts and ammo here... at least with the trucks that your friend over there didn't gun down."

"Didn't find any nasty surprises did you?"

    D100 for said "Surprises"

Archiving it to suptg is pretty simple.
Just about to, actually but wanted to clear the description with OP first.
Is "We step into the boots of Erik "Dundee" Raifedo, a man's man Aussie Mech Pilot that goes hand-to-hand with enemy mechs for the Pan-Asia Alliance. A massive threat stands in our way in this opener! A noisy leak in our barracks! (Oh, and a 14-strong vehicular convoy with a 6-man mech squad with hostile intentions, I guess.)" alright?

    >>17606161

If I were a cruel and evil man I would have the trucks explode violently from that roll and have you hear the screams of the infantry as they died before their comms do.

    >>17606162

"Well we found... uh...something. Got some intel here... papers and a couple of USB's worth of info."

"What was that 'uh' for boyo. You're not trying to stiff me on some longnecks are ya?"

"What? Uh..no... um.. There's a lot of alcohol in here with the stuff. Looks like a brewery storehouse in here... "

"You saying these boys were running a Lurk AND tryin to bush-whack us?"

"A .. lurk?.. oh! No... looks like they were keeping it with the rest of their supplies."

"Well we'd best confiscate those eh?"

    "Uh..yeah.."

"There's that 'uh' again. What else did you find."

    "...Naughty Nurse Monthly?"

"Alright that's it. You're handin those over right now."

It gets the point across. The leak gave us more trouble than the convoy did

    Oh yeah!
    Best loot ever!

Anyway, can we take the Intact Siege Mech with us? If so, lets take it and get back to base.

It's just meant for humor, given how strongly the thread was about fixing that leak.

Hang on. We still got a patrol to complete. We're only 25% done on our route. Better just tag it for salvage. (The GIs can carry the 'specialist' merchandise.

Unfortuantely you lack the necessary tools to drag the siege mech back with you. You COULD however signal the base to send a crew to salvage anything useful here that can't be taken at this current time.

    Essentially this.

Anyway, I need some sleep. Should the next session start off with the end of Eric's patrol?

Well, we only made it through about 25% of the patrol as mentioned. Roll some dice in private, see if we'll encounter anything else. If not, that'd be best to just end the patrol at start of next thread and drag us into something new instead of putzing around at base.
For now, get yourself some rest OP. You did good.
Thread is also archived and ready for perusing.
Also, any idea when the next thread will be?
