    >/tg/, how I promote squad leader directly to Captain?
    >Pic related, that's the guy
Wait, no, that's not really how this game works, because it doesn't really work yet!

The guy who normally posts threads under the name Chapter Master Dev Coordinator is having some real life problems, and I don't know what his next dev content release was. He was working on something. I'm just one of the art guys, so instead of posting all the stuff we've discussed on the forum and the IRC channel, I'll just post some links.

We are still going. We are still aiming for a 1.0 by new year. What exactly this will include is not certain, but assuredly, a playable if minimal (and likely somewhat buggy) version of the game. Most features have been considered to a reasonable level of detail, meaning for the most part, the way is paved for the coders, who are going at their pace. Meanwhile, art and writing, but mostly art, have also got a lot on their plates and are crawling along, and more volunteers would be wondrous.

    http://tgchaptermaster.freeforums.org/index.php
This is the message board. A lot of discussion goes on in here now.

This page has some crap on it, and then a bunch of links to earlier Chapter Master threads.

Probably a late christmas present then, but yeah, last I checked the coders are still thinking that's feasible. Most even think there shouldn't be a problem with it having art instead of the previous prediction of a pure ascii interface. But we'll see. I can't claim to know the ways of the techpriests.

The "playable" version that exists doesn't even let you make a chapter really. There's no game there, just a couple generators stuck together. It's not like we really needed an interface to open different .exes for us.

If you forget to specify a number of marines when creating a new company, you get an unhandled exception.
If you specify too many weapon packs, it doesn't make the company (as proper) but it also doesn't say why it's not making the company.

Hey guys not so much on topic but the green text threads have gotten me thinking.

Scenario: Space marine chapter is set up at the red mark. Warp storm pictured pops up and cuts them off from the Imperium for an extended period. What would standard procedure be? Would it be appropriate to expand beyond Codex chapter size to help push outwards into unconquered territory?

Lastly it becomes possible to send the occasional vessel through Eldar territory back to the Imperium, how does this affect things? Would they bother sending a crusade fleet to conquer a stable corridor of space and link up with the trapped pocket?

Space Marines are well-equipped for operating independently of the Imperium proper, but their behaviour would depend a lot on the views of their own leadership. They already have authority to administer their homeworld and to battle the enemies of humanity, and some would draw the line there: hold fast, wait for the storms to clear, defend their world until then. Others might seek to agressively crusade against the alien and the rogue elements of humanity, seeking to destroy rather than conquer worlds as they can be recolonized once contact with Terra is restored. Still others might attempt to conquer the worlds and implement Imperial-style rule there... call for governors who supply tithes and troops to further expand borders while swearing fealty to High Lords they have not yet met, and still other Astartes would rule the worlds directly, with themselves as governors and the military and economic resources of the worlds serving their chapter's needs.
    >> Anonymous 10/24/11(Mon)14:45 No.16726193
    >>16726184

None of these would expressly violate the dictates of the Codex Astartes, as they've been undertaken by canon chapters at various points even within contact with Terra. Expansion of their numbers beyond 1,000 battle brothers however WOULD directly violate the Codex, and the chapter would need a proper motivation. If they felt restricted by the Codex before the storms, then they'd drop it like a hat. If they were devoted to it then they would cling to it unwaveringly even as circumstances changed. If more pragmatic, then it would depend on their approach to things in general... the more active and far-reaching a campaign they conduct, the more Astartes would be needed, but at the same time the more worlds are contributing to Guard-like forces that can participate in battles and reduce the need for battle-brothers to be everywhere at once. Being able to mount an extended campaign also depends on resources available... while chapters maintain significant productive capacity, they cannot build everything, particularly when it comes to some archaeotech systems on void ships, which still come from the Mechanicus... and everything they build themselves still needs a vast array of different resources, not all of which may be available. Six thousand marines is not so great an investment when only one in ten can be clad in power armour after all, better to conscript all the would-be-initiates into auxilia and throw them into battle with easily-manufactured lasguns.

The personality of the chapter and its chapter master at the time would be the major factor in determining exactly what occurred.
    >> Anonymous 10/24/11(Mon)14:45 No.16726202
    >>16726193
As for finding a corridor, that depends on a number of factors. Loss of a marine chapter to warp storms is not unheard of, and the Imperium will not necessarily mount a campaign of search and recovery... if neutral they might certainly look into it a little, if the chapter had political allies in the right places such as other chapters/Navy admirals/Inquisitors calling for them to be recovered then the effort might be far more extensive. Enemies in those same places could mean the Imperium writes them off on a scrap of paper soon forgotten in the vast filing system of the Administratum. If there were worlds in the area that solved the chapter's difficulties producing equipment, such as mining worlds producing rare minerals or forge worlds, the Mechanicus would be very vocal about recovering those, and the Astartes being recovered would be a fringe benefit.

From your map, it would seem likely that both the chapter within the storms and the Imperium without would take the obvious route of launching a crusade against the Eldar sitting at the mouth of that corridor... whether Exodites or Corsairs, the xenos could not stand up to a sustained assault by Imperial forces from both sides.

For some 40k related side projects of my own I've put together some 40k type music. Only done one track as a prototype, but it seemed to have the right tone. When I get home tonight/tomorrow (assignments, 'nuff said), I'll upload it somewhere and link to it, get some opinions. If it's any good, I'll happily donate it to the cause.

There are some things /tg/ can be proud of. Highly detailed quest threads. Angry Marines. Car Lesbians. Planes and Mercs. I think it's more than safe to say that this game, even though it's in early alpha at this point, easily qualifies for that list.

Perhaps most commendable of all is that when the the community does not see it as "Namefag1 gets shit done", but /tg/ gets shit done, they almost always humbly agree. Board among boards, to be sure.

    Gentlemen.
I have limited artfaggotry skills, specifically texture-work. Mostly that's from modding for HL and M&B back in the day - I'm not really a life-drawing kind of artfag. I can also do some writefaggotry and have fair fluffmancy ratings.

What's the best way that I can contribute to the game?

If any of the devs are still in this thread:

The bug that was previously mentioned about the companies not showing up when you go back into the screen after making one is a simple fix.

Basically when you enter the screen the program isn't checking to see if any companies have already been created, it is storing them, because if you make another company all the old companies appear.

You know, squats would actually be a good crew for a space faring ship in 40k. Since ships of the Imperium have sections that are almost nearly abandoned it'd just like a Dorf Fort.
