    1.18 MB ZEONQUEST Pt74 I apologised on 4chan !!857o4GkKJgy 09/03/10(Fri)12:11 No.11935344
    Another week, another Zeonquest.

You are Commander David Lister (ZC, KCZ, BoM), ace Mobile Suit pilot for the Principality of Zeon.
As leader of the now reknowned elite independant corps the Nachtmaren Unit, you've been working as a professional thorn in the Federations side for many months now.

You've tangled with stolen mecha, taken on The Gundam and lived. Thrice. Gotten your own nemesis, chewed your way through numerous opponents with variable plot armour and blown up so many Land Battleships that the whole thing is getting passe.

But now you're in Europe, trying to prevent the Federation's Operation Odessa from taking your primary source of resources that you NEED to win this war.
    >> Arty 09/03/10(Fri)12:18 No.11935424
    >and blown up so many Land Battleships that the whole thing is getting passe.
Maybe we should start capturing them or find ways to crash them into other Federation forces. Probably not a good idea.

    >Beam-Resistant Coating According to Gundam Officials, in the latter half of the One Year War, Zeon mobile suits suffered heavy damage from Earth Federation Forces' beam weaponry-equipped mobile suits. The semi-transparent coating is not useful in countering anything other than lasers, thus a new technology has to be developed. A technology similar to the later well-known anti-beam coating called beam-resistant coating (??????????) was developed and became a standard after applying on the MS-07B3 Gouf Custom. This coating can absorb some of the energy from the mega-particles and hence reduce the damage. It can also protect the unit from laser attacks by the same principle. However, it is not as effective as the later anti-beam coating, and the armour will still be damaged if the beam weapon is fired in close range or has a high enough power. This coating is often applied on mobile suit shields.

    THE STORY SO FAR

After being ordered to take out Revil in some capacity (apart from in the Flowers and Movie kind of way) you sent your Wappa Mounted Dragoons out on a scouting mission to try and find the old duffer.
They succeeded and you covered their evac with your usual high explosive aplomb.

You then rode on into enemy held territory to assault his personal Big Tray. After making sure that The Trojan Horse had moved off station, you took out the OTHER escorting Pegasus Carrier with a finely practiced mid-air assault that you'd been planning ever since your tangle with them in Arizona.
Aside from some landing mishaps, the plan worked perfectly and you neutralised the ship and forced it's MS team to retreat.

Afterwards you thought it was a straight run to the Big Tray... but you didn't count on THE MIDNIGHT PIXY DEATH SQUAD.
Their smokescreen using, ninja-leaping, flashbang popping antics gave you trouble, but eventually Zolomon was able to punch through whilst the rest of you occupied them to take down the Big Tray.
Only to discover that Revil had jumped onto the Pegasus you just downed when he realised he'd been eyeballed.
With enemy forces closing in from all sides, you had no choice but to book it to the enemy airfield, raze it to ground, and then have your own ride: The Zanzibar Kai class Cruiser "Outer Heaven" come pick up.

    THE SITUATION AT THE MOMENT

Your attacks and recon data have seriously destabilised the enemy offensive in this area.
With the attacks heavily lessened, your forces pushed forwards to add to the pressure, but the enemy forces held using our own defensive emplacements from the 2nd defensive live. But we used the oppourtunity to deploy almost the entire Engineering corps to this area and reinforced the 3rd line heavily. It'll be next to impossible for the enemy to breach this front now, and we can defend it much smaller allotment of troops, allowing us to divert them to the western and northern fronts of this battle.
Head command says that it was able to keep the pressure on the enemy sufficiently to force them all the way back to the 2nd defence line, practically a reversal of this morning here. Although they're rallied around the fallen Pegasus class carrier and the heavy fires are making advancing difficult to impossible. Not least because the smoke makes laser communications impossible, making a night attack impossible to coordinate.

I also have message from Base Commander M'Quve:
You weren't able to take Revil out, but it appears that you did at least take him out for a good few hours. Command noticed several fractures in command and enemy coordination during this time which we put to good use cementing our defensive positions, literally usually.

Currently however, no word from Commander Char, who was last seen battling the Gundam with coordinates you gave him...

You are currently aboard the Outer Heaven, all suits have minor damage apart from Elaines Gelgoog which needs a new arm, and the Rhinocero's armour plating which needs replacing in places.
The latter can be done with spare parts, the Former you need to return to Odessa HQ to do.

The Mass production type Big Zam was supposed to have some kind of armor similar to that instead of an I-Field since there were so many problems with it. (Like overheating and cost.)

I mean after all why would we want to fight char try to get him into a neutral faction like Garma's or something.

Would it also be possible for the OH to take a few "blind" shots in the general area of that pegasus we downed? Any additional confusion and destruction we throw at them is profit for us.

At the very least we should return to friendly lines to plot our next attack.

So take off in OH, fly over Char's last known position to see if we can spot him and/or provide support.

As we take off, OH takes pot shots at the downed Pegasus if allowed?

You travel straight towards HQ, as you fly you pass over Commander Char's last known position.
You can clearly see he's been here as there at LEAST two towns completely ablaze.

"This is Outer Heaven to Commander Char. Commander Char do you read?" Anita broadcasts over the radio. Minovsky density is fairly mid-range, there's a chance the signal could get through.

You're passing over Vazhne (which is also now aflame) before you get a response.

"Commander Char here. I've lost my team and my transport has been shot down by the enemy. I've engaged the Gundam for roughly 2 hours, but he appears to have given me the slip this time. I can talk about in more detail if you'd give me a lift back."

"Are you sure the Gundam isn't still in the area?" Anita asks.

"I'm almost positive, I saw the Trojan Horse take off some 20 minutes ago heading east, it'd taken some minor damage taking down my Gaw, and I believe they were retreating to somewhere quiet to repair. The ship has never been known to leave the Gundam behind before, I'd strongly doubt they'd start this far into our lines."

A little, although the ship is running low.

You have the Outer Heaven touch down, whilst you, Jolyne and Zolomon are on the roof scanning the area for possible hostiles.

As Char embarks onto the ship it quickly lifts off again, not wanting to linger. Seeing no enemy hostiles you return inside to the now cramped Hangar.

"So what happened? We've been busy getting shown up by Revil."

"Using your recon data myself and two wingmen were able to intercept the Trojan Horse after it was able to break through our air cover thanks to a rapidly escalating Air battle to the northwest that was sucking up the current Air patrols.

The Gaw damaged it sufficiently to force it to take evasive action and we were nearly able to try your suggested "Anti-Trojan Horse Doctrine", or the "Achilles Maneouver" as I think I've heard High Command refer to it."

"We managed to get that to work tonight actually. If you can get at least 3 people to land successfully you're pretty much assured of neutralising the ship." You helpful inform him.

"Really? Well the Trojan Horse's pilot was wise to us and managed to avoid our attempt, but in order to buy time it deployed it's MS and Air units and we were forced into the cover of the Local Towns. The Gaw however took heavy damage when it tried to push it's luck, and went down on top of Doslidne. The Gundam was the only MS that pursued us, but it was using a new type of modular armour that we need to watch out for in the future, I assume the other two stayed back with the ship. Anyway the Gundam first took out my wingmen and I dueled with it for the remaining time until it made a retreat after 2 hours of fighting. I think he was at his limit though, and his suit had taken heavier damage than ever before. I don't harbour hopes that it's out of combat, but we might have a few hours respite in anycase."

"How badly did he damage your Gelgoog?"

"Minor damage only really, some bullet holes in the armour and some burning and scoring but little else. I've been lucky thus far really, since most of these parts can't be replaced easily thanks to the destruction of the facilities on Pezun. How DID you start that civil war anyway?"

"Captain Garma told us to deliver a letter to his father. And when we're given a mission to deliver a letter BY GOD THAT IS WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO. Regardless of how many people we have to shoot or facilities we need to blow up."

    "Really?"

"I uh, still have some intelligence contacts in Side 3, so we were quickly able to tell that Lord Degwin wasn't in Zum city or the side..."

There is a polite cough from behind you.

"...fine. My PARENTS are outrageous self-taught super-spies and THEY discovered that Degwin had been poisoned by Gihren to make room for him at the top, and that this was par for the course for him."

    "How so?"

"Turns out he had Zeon Sum Deikum assassinated."

    There is a pause.

    "Pardon?"

"Purely by luck my Dad found a China Teacup that had Gihren and Sum Deikum's fingerprints on it and a sample of a fairly subtle poison within that we think Gihren must have spaced to hide the evidence. Ramba Ral went BERZERK when we told him."

"...yes. I imagine that he would." Char comments.

"Of course, we still don't know if Degwin or the rest of the family knew about this, though I suspect we can discount Garma I mean he would have been what? 10? 12 at the time?"

    "12" Char helpfully replies.

"Plus, it doesn't really seem like Dozle's style you know?"

"Yes, yes I can't really see him being so roundabout either I suppose. Still, you can't ever tell..."

Conversation is somewhat stilted from then on.

Get the techs fixing our gear. Send a letter off to HQ asking if they have any new high value targets they want taken out.

Next send off a letter to Pezun. With the Federation now unable to mass produce MS for awhile they're probably going to try to upgrade their existing stuff as much as possible. We'll need to counter that.

First Proposal is the MS-14-NT, a Gelgoog variant built specifically for pilots with the incredibly high reaction speeds some Newtypes seem to be capable of. Char would be one of the first I would reccomend giving this suit to. It would combine the raw acceleration of the Jaeger with high power manuvering verniers like the High Mobility type, and the magnetic joints of the Act Zaku. It should also be capable of fitting a large variety of specialist weapons such as the Gouf Heat rod and other beam saber type weaponry.
Finally, the Hand conectors should be capable of picking up and using captured Federation weapons. This alone could be incredibly useful if implemented among existing suit designs. A suit like this would probably cost a lot so only a few should be made.

The next specialised suit concept is a flight variation of the MS-18 Kampher. The Kampher's lightweight construction and already powerful engines combined with systems designed for the Gouf flight type could be a winning combination. With the federation's new beam weapon equipped core figher already being deployed additional air to air assets will be needed. As for weaponry I have little doubt that a cross between the Gouf's large vulcan gun and that used by the Gigan would prove effective against aircraft. Another possibility is reverse engineering captured GM spray beams and making a hybrid weapon between it and the Dom's scattering beam. A scatting beam bazooka?

The last suit concept is based on the Federation GM snipers. Taking some of our older model mobile suits as they are rotated off the front lines and modifying them with a larger backpack reactors. With enough of an added power supply they should be able to field beam weaponry making it much easier for main line units to counter the remaining Federation suits.

Anyway, you order the nightshift to get on with buffing out the dings in your suits.
    And replacing Elaines missing arm.

You tell the duty manager that your back on station currently refuelling and rearming, and that the team is going to try and get some sleep.
No point in taking a late night when you don't have to right?

You return to the ship and dismiss the squad to get some sleep back in their rooms. You retire yourself after writing a brief report and filing with HQ.

It's around 5 in the morning that you're woken up by the Red Alert alarms. You squeeze into your pants and dash outside to meet Zolomon.
Who has NOT opted for pants.
    "What's going on?"
"I don't know! I'm about to go to the bridge to see what's going on."
"I'LL go to the bridge... you put some goddamn pants on. God, the girls will be out in a minute. You KNOW how Jolyne reacted last time you did that."

"Aw come on boss, that was a long time ago."
"All rooms on this ship have a crowbar in case of power failures."

    ...

    "I'll get my pant's on."

You head up to the bridge. When you arrive the Bridge area is a hub of activity, and they appear to be in the middle of emergency flight checks for take off. You find Anita.

    "What's going on?"
"It's a major push Commander! They managed to organised a full scale dawn attack by massing their MS assets into the North and Western fronts and mounting them on some kind of Federation pattern Dodai, they went right over our ground defences! The NorthWest front is currently pinned in place by waves after waves of conventional tanks backed up with artillery! We've got reports of the Trojan Horse operating in the immiediate area and Commander char has already sortied! The main thrust of the enemy forces is scheduled to arrive in 30 minutes or less!"

You get into link with a chaotic command structure for some orders.
From what you can tell ALL ships and planes are ordered up right this minute, and roughly 90 to 80 percent of all defenders in the area are being called back to try and intercept the advance.

The battleline appears to look like this: The Flying MS's are heading towards the HQ, supported by their Pegasus class carriers which are travelling under conventional fighter escort about two kilometers behind. These carriers are repairing, reloading and refueling Mobile Suits in stages when they need it.

If the defenders intercept those ships then things will start to go your way, but the Federation know this and at their current rate of advance the enemy will make it to Odessa HQ about 15 minutes before that happens.

Things sound pretty tense, and nobodies heard from M'Quve and about half of the General Command Staff since the assault began.

Split the team up into two groups:
    Team A:
    Hovis

    Elaine
Team A lands on the ground and starts thinning out the aerial forces.
    Team B:
    David
    Zolomon

Team B jumps on the carrier, disables the shit out of it, then jumps down to join Team A.

Sure, she can fly into space if you needed. you'd be pushing it timewise though. The manouver would probably take 20-25 minutes to perform.

Communicate to whoever is currently in charge of the defense that we're going to be making a run at the closest Carriers. I suggest that we punch through and perform a close assault jump onto one. The OH then swings around behind the second carrier, does as much damage as possible and launches our wappa troops to attempt to board it. After that tell Mauser the fate of the ship is up to him. If he thinks he can make it back to base in one piece do so, or keep fighting the other carriers.

    MESSAGE TO: David Lister
    FROM: Unknown

Just thought you should know the following bit of not very well advertised tactical procedure for full assaults on Odessa.
"...under the event that Odessa is under sustained attack and it's loss to the enemy appears inevitable the standing orders are:
The launch of Nuclear weapons to regain battlefield control.
The exact usage of Nuclear Ordinance will be in three possible forms.
Situation a) In the event that the Federation have fielded the overall majority of their forces in the area, use of the Nuclear ordinance to destroy and disable the enemy is mandated. With the lion share of their forces destroyed an immiediate counterattack MUST take place and sufficient enemy holdings must be taken to enable us to take the enemy to the Negeotiation table before they are fully aware that we have breached the Antarctic Treaty.
Situation b) In the event that the enemy has a sizable presence in other theatres, then the use of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere as an EMP blast device to neutralise conventional and damaged Federation units is advised. With their supply lines at the very least disabled this will stall their advance and allow us to at least retain the Status Quo.
Situation c) In the event that neither of the above are viable, you are under orders to destroy the entire stipmine network with nuclear weapons to deny the enemy easy access to those resources."

That was sent to M'Quve by Gihren about 4 months ago, although it was countersigned by Kycillia, along with 3 Nuclear missiles and their mobile launchers.

    Yours sincerely

    Incognito.

The Flying Armour mounted Mobile Suits are operating below cloud cover, whilst the enemy Pegasus carriers are operating at the same level, and are spaced about a Kilometer apart to privide ideal spacing. The Mobile Suits themselves are just coming on in a large mass, which has a semi-constant stream of traffic coming and going to the carriers for repairs and whatnot.

Travelling above the clouds may help you avoid the worst of it, but it's not like they don't have AWAC assets up there, so it's likely you will be spotted.

Honestly then, we need to get the Mashiba team on the horn and see if we can get some air support. Then, punch through with at least 2 other units and repeat our pegasus downing maneuver simultaneously. We don't want one of them getting a signal off to another carrier and have them move out of the way or something. Maybe try and take out the ones from the north. If we have time (and limbs) perhaps we could try the other three.

Ok with this plan the two main teams attack at the outsides of the formation first. Mashiba team and whoever is going with them should have priority for the Dodai's. The reasoning for this being that the OH is capable of dealing more damage to it's second carrier than the GAW's are. If Mauser is certain that the second GAW will go down or that the mech. Infantry can deal with it he could either assist with Mashiba's 2nd or pick us up.

Good goddamn, I'm awake in time for a Zeonquest? Cool!

Anyway, I just woke up so this might be retarded, but my idea runs thusly.

Whatever Gaw and OH support we have stands off with the Pegs, and herds them into a certain spot. Then the Mashiba Team and ourselves perform multiple simultaneous Achilles Maneuvers off of Dodai's (Not sure if it's possible for a Dodai to get high enough, though, so replace them with a Gaw if that doesn't work.) The PDows, if we take them, are kitted out for Close AA and Anti-MS roles, and the Rhino, which will be deployed atop the OH, is kitted entirely for standoff AA, and it will be powering all kinds of long-range flak into enemy MS as they approach either the OH or the assaulted formation.

Your assault plan assumes that the two interior carriers won't move in to assist or book it away once the attack starts.

Really we want to hit all 4 simultaneously to split up whatever escorts they have and ensure that we are actually able to hit all four.

Attacking two at a time might be a good plan, but who knows what kind of fan the shit will hit once it starts.

Okay, this may sound insane, but here goes. The Trojans have to open thier hangers to recive damaged suits, so use the Wappas to drop our infantry into one of the open hangers to take over a trojan and use it to attack/ram another one. Preform the Achilles manuver on the two that aren't being attacked/rammed.

You outline the rough and ready plan to the Mashiba Team.

"This is VERY rough, I don't think many of us are going to walk away from this." Cima notes.

"...I wasn't going to mention this, but if we DON'T take out the Northern Fronts fours Pegasus class then Odessa Command is under orders to deal with them via breaching the Antarctica Treaty. If we DON'T do this, those of us who walk away may have nowhere to walk to."

Cima looks away visibly distressed, and mumbles something about how some things never change. You have no time to ponder on this as your Dodai's have been loaded, and it's time to go.

As your forces take off, you patch yourself in to the ships external camera's. You can see sections of the base aflame from Char's continuing battle with the Gundam. In the distance you can see the brilliant strobing flashes of a massive aerial battle, as well as flames and explosions across the reinforces Northwestern front making it look like a false dawn.

You clear the enemy air battle, and the signal to prep for an attempted Achilles Assault is given.
The Wappa Crew strap themselves in, and prepare themselves for their assault. Their plan is brutal and desperate, covered by flares and cannon fire from the Outer Heaven, these troopers will daringly attempt to breach the main bridge with heavy breaching charges and take command of the Central CnC. From their they can asisst in a systematic takedown of the ship.
Failing that, they place demolition charges throughout and blow the fucker up.

The Dodai Platforms are there to assist you should you miss the target and so you can return to the Outer Heaven.

No prepared to lead the assault you organise your troops, fully prepared for whatever comes next.
Still no sign of the Gaw's.

In fact, it's only seconds before you're about to swoop in and make your attack that the Gaw's appear, a cloud of fighters in battle around both like a halo of metal and rockets, just in time.

Beams, rockets, chaff, flares, noisemakers and all manner of other munitions fly from the ships, covering the desperate drop by your infantry.

The second Pegasus illuminated lurid colours by beam fire, rockets and flak grows large in the open ventral bay.

    You take the jump.

No Zeonquest next week, as I'll be on holiday.

    --OMAKE--

Char deflected the beam rifle shot with his Naginta and fired a return shot at the Guncannon which had gotten too close. The angle was awkwards and it only managed to sever the arm holding the rifle at the unportected shoulder ball joint.

Knowing the Trojan Horses crew like he did, Char knew that there was a 50/50 chance that this pilot woudl retreat back to the ship.
To his left a Rick-Dom II shoulder rammed the Gundam through a MS hangar wall to his left, he saw that the Gundam had put a Beam Saber through it's cockpit and it was running unguided, it's leg thrusters affixed on.
The Gundam tossed the heavy Mobile Suit and it looped erratically around before crashing in the distance somewhere with a large explosion.
The Gundam's shoulder pauldron exploded in a spray of reactive materials as Char's beam rifle caught a glancing blow. His second shot clipped the Gundam's thigh slagging a groove down the side, causing the machine to stumble.
Char almost casually dodged out of the return head-vulcan fire and fired a third shot. This time taking the Gundam's already damaged arm clean off, still striding towards him.
The Gundam staggered back and tripped over a parked MS transport.

Char hesitated for a fraction of a second in suprise, he'd honestly started to think the pilot had eyes in the back of his head at this point.
He aimed advanced until he was nearly on top of the Gundam aimed and went to pull the trigger.

We lost a few. A squad or two were burned to death in canada, another squad was ambushed by gundam, we lost a few getting zambi, and then a few more in jauro

any who are left are the hardest mother fuckers ever, they may not be fleshed out but they're basically us but not in giant robots.

He barely noticed the uprooted Fuel container tossed by the White Bases second Guncannon until it was almost upon him.
The shot from his Beam Rifle detonated it in a large fuel air explosion, knocking him back, miraculously he was able to keep his Beam Rifle.

As his viewscreen cleared, the image resolved into the MS Carrier flying towards him thown haphazardly by the one-armed Gundam. He sliced it apart with his Beam Naginta, through the sparks he saw the purple glow of the enemies beam saber.
His parry with the second blade of his Naginta was awkward and the Beam Saber deflected upwards, there was a shower of sparks and warning lights bleated in great numbers at Char as his arm was severed at the shoulder. He lost control of the Beam Naginta and it fell to the floor.

He rolled with the blow and lashed out with a kick, still overbalanced from the attack, the Gundam took the blow and staggered back. Char took advantage of the extra space to fire his Beam Rifle, the Gundam ducked and he repositioned himself atop a nearby warehouse.

The situation had deteirorated somewhat. He didn't know how he was going to get out of this one...

"Lord Captain, I appreciate you wishes, and I will accede to hold out for as long as I can, but my orders are my orders. I can't simply be expected not to follow them out."

"The situation has not become so untenable that we cannot win without Nuclear force just yet Rear Admiral M'Quve. All forces are being deployed to halt the assault. Even know the Nachtmaren and Mashiba Teams that served so brilliantly in Jaburo not more than three days ago a fighting alone behind the enemy lines to take out the enemy Carriers to the North. I ask loyalty to my men M'Quve and in return I must be worthy of that loyalty. Do NOT launch the Nuclear weapons."

"I suppose the orders can be given from our escape ship, very well, we will continue to evacuate all sensitive materials to the war effort as well as laying down a general retreat plan whilst we wait. If the situation has proven truly untenable, only then will I launch, only to destroy and irradiate strip-mining facilities, which are a fair distance away from any real population."

"We wont let you or Zeon down M'Quve."

"I'm sure you wont dear boy."

The Magellan vomited flak fire energetically in an attempt to keep Jacob's squad away. He saw Iris spin in a back breaking maneouver away from a Ball's heavy cannon, before catching it with a shot from her Zudah's 220mm Bazooka.

"Save your ammo for the ships, we can't spare it on the small fries!" He repremanded her.

There was a silent explosion in the vastness of space as a Salimis went up. He saw the halo of afterburner flame of 15th Squadrons Kampfers as they moved on to their next target. The enemy escort ring was well equipped and had decent pilots, but the GM model Mobile Suit could match the speed of Zeon's high performance mobile suits like the Rick Dom, Kampfer and Zudah. That said, you could afford to linger, to let the enemy catch up with you was death.

The pilots had started to refer to the space inside the escort zone as the "Deep Blue", comparing the Storm Squads who's job it was to penetrate the escort line and take out shipping as to that of pearl diving without an oxygen tank, trying to make that balance between survival and completing the mission.
He saw the blossoms of explosions as the Rick Dom's of the 302nd Squad failed that equation.

He primed all of his Panzerfausts and sent them streaking towards the enemy battleship, and then followed up with a full strafing burst from his 120mm. He angled his monoeye about, looking for a weak spot in the enemies lines that he could punch out from.

"Iris, point 105 looks weak, we'll try to get out through there, fire your remaining muntions and follow me."

"roger!" came the reply, crackled and distorted through the minovsky particles.

He could see another Musai explode as successive Heavy Beam Cannons barrages from 3 Salamis bracketed it.
He just hoped the battle was going on better down below.
