Mikage started as a traumatized kid trying to avoid responsibility to trying to shoulder the world to protect her little sister, to the point where she used magic to partition herself psychologically before trying to sort her life out. Remaking old friendships. Struggling with new ones. Accepting the love of others. All through the medium of my at times clumsy or poor communication of ideas. She became the character we all made together through choices and consequences. And we will explore my intentions and expectations of the end of her story as I summarize the intent of the next few arcs ahead as I have been trying to pick things back up but failing for the past couple of years.

And there is a repost of the quest’s content happening over on Spacebattles courtesy of NHO that he and I have been intermittently doing content or writing gaff edits to smooth things out that I’ll also be getting back too as it’s only in the mid fifties somewhere for chapter count. Special thanks to RandomDimensions, another QM of old and a longtime anon participant in this quest, who recently gifted me a small hand cranked music box of Moonlight Densetsu (the original Sailor Moon anime’s theme song for those unfamiliar) when we met up at a recent PAX. Melee Advocate Guy, Gnashing Teeth, and many other anons most I don’t know and at least one I knew from College are also thanked and remembered.

Let’s bring this home. It will take a few days to get through all this, but this thread is being started on the anniversary day all the same.

[bold]Where we left off[/bold]

Our story left off during Juuban High & Junior High sports festival, and not from Mikage’s perspective but from that of longtime member of this quest’s cast Midori Mori. Midori Mori is a former middle school delinquent turned mean girl, turned apologetic friend to Mikage and loyal ally. Midori was gifted a piece of Jewelry possessed by the stone and spirit of one of the original series’s early villains who was a corrupted former retainer of MIkage’s Father’s Past Life; and under that spirit’s guidance swore to serve Mikage as heir to both the Ancient Earth and Moon Kingdoms as one of her Knights.

Midori has had a long character arc surrounding coming to terms with the kind of person she wants to be, and not being the kind of person she wants to be to protect herself from being an outcast due to trauma over losing her mother to suicide at a formative age and being afraid to lose what family and friends she still had because she’s gay. Her father, who was normally at work for weeks at a time on a fishing trawler, had just arrived with other straggling parents and students during the first handful of events of the national sports festival day.

Midori was probably going to freak out about her dad being there a bit, over her uncertainties about how he’d react if he found out. Cue shenanigans and random events trying to make sure that doesn’t happen, avoiding him, or just lying about it and hope nothing happens considering how open about things she had been since dating another classmate Keiko Sugimoto, who in quest was the reincarnation of the Sailor Moon Season 1 villain Queen Beryl and through convoluted circumstances became a Senshi for a piece of the Sun’s Star Seed left in her chest by Beryl/Metallia.

I would have mostly left that to player decisions/dice rolls for the drama, or a major emotional trauma healing moment. I have no notes on what I was going to characterize her father as but it was gonna be “I was so worried about this I made a mountain out of a molehill” comedy of errors for Midori before the end of the day and the beginning of the Big Shell arc in earnest.

Meanwhile, Mikage and all the other members of her party were set. She and her assembled team coordinated with the new Senshi operating openly in secret.

Over the next few days these major touchpoints and more will be expanded upon in this thread, culminating in the full closure. In between ask your questions; even details about other players in the cast. Many answers may include their divergent possibilities based on my expectations of out there or conflicting but reasonable votes that would have likely been faced, or just admissions of my own uncertainty or indecision regarding events.

And the notion that at the end of the day, it would have been entirely up to those of you who would have been participating as to whether or not Mikage was going to fully re-embrace herself and use the Golden Crystal to become Sailor Eclipsed Moon, the Sailor Moon in the actively moving shadow of the passing Earth.

So…time to work on writing the Big Shell arc summary and check my notes and the discord. And of course my notes for the rest of this quest’s oversaturated and bloated cast.

Actively writing the Big Shell Complex arc summary, both about the intended beats, variables, and wow is it easier to summarize the arc and my intentions than to actually try to write it and dialogue holy fuck.

I have long enjoyed this quest. Started around the same time as my own much shorter quest attempt. Subject matter, writting, system choices, and style all drew me in. To this day, there have only been a handful of quests I've really gotten pulled into and this one was practically three of them. (The whole Hypercrisis of Multiple Quests and related quests had my attention as well.)
I've had a grand time with these threads, enjoyment, feels, angst, and even sustained anger over one vote. Haha, I was fit to be tied over how one vote in particular went, but in the end it made for good story and now I laugh at the memory fondly. I was really invested in the characters and trying to find the good end for as many as possible.
One of thread of planning I was looking forward to seeing the fruits of was our crafting projects: self-heal tattoo for Venus, weapon charms for certain paranormal defense force personnel, more protection and tools for our Knights, gloves for Sasha. Stuff like that.
A step beyond that was looking at the Construct sub-domain's later powers and our magic crafting as a possible path toward helping restore the Shitennou- ours and theirs. Like I said, I was looking for as many good ends as possible, or impossible. Gotta have goals, and the higher domain and tier powers reminded me of things Neo-Queen Serenity had done.
But there I go rambling again.

Big Shell Complex Arc

This arc was long set up through a crossover character used with QM Deculture’s permission, the small Russian Boxer named Sasha. The idea was that since the party had been actively using their resources to scout out the large public event, and confirmed that Amazonite was posing as a civilian trainer setting up her own project to harvest and capitalize on negative emotions at the International Aiba Youth boxing tournament, that this would be an ambush of the ambush. No team young Senshi or team Mikage and her Four Knights blindly stumbling their collective way into a major battle.

Saori Umeki (walking anxiety in shut in “invisible” girl trope who got turned into a monster but was saved by Mikage and got recruited to do spy shit for team Eclipse) doing her sneaky spywork. Sasha doing his own actual preparation to participate in the tournament, which is why he came to Japan in the first place. And the rest of the girls and boys on side doing rotating stakeouts of the sports complex noting exits, emergency exits, and places normal people shouldn’t normally be able to access that a lot of them can access with assorted abilities. The day of the tournament would have had a few personal complications.

Sasha’s guardian/coach would show up to watch the affair expecting a normal boxing tournament, being constantly just barely on screen. Boris would be there because of a planned exhibition between him and Sasha considering he literally trains with Boris (a Kamachatka bear for those of you joining us for the first time) during a planned lull in the tournament. A few classmates of Sasha’s from Infinity Academy (the school from Sailor Moon S that in quest was eventually rebuilt and is currently run by Hotaru/Sailor Saturn) and Moe Ueda(whom is also friends with Mikage), Momoko Nakajima (the crossover character from Evil Precure Quest), and Azusa Mugen(the girl who was briefly host to a fragment of the Golden Crystal Mikage earlier retrieved) would be there in attendance.

Most of that is all set up and set dressing. Establish a few mundane humans excited in the tournament who are primed to become monsters as part of Amazonite’s plans that Mikage and the others know to keep eyes on. Social interactions between Sasha and his coach, them picking up that Sasha is focusing on something else because he knows his tournament is going to be interrupted by a monster fight. The young sailor Senshi, Koyomi Chiba (Sailor New Moon and our primary perspective character’s imouto), Kanari Kino (New Sailor Jupiter), Venus Aino (New Sailor Venus), Aiha Mizuno (New Sailor Mercury), Rin Kumada (New Sailor Mars), and Ranko Meiou (New Sailor Pluto) post up at tactically described locations among the crowd and complex whilst Mikage is of course given the choice of where to position herself and her assets other than Saori and Sasha as Saori isn’t a combatant and whether she would be there or not was still in question and Sasha’s location was already locked in as a competitor.

There would be a vote positioning your team based on provided intel on Amazonite’s movements and setup that would determine positioning and some matchups between fighters and opponents or counter sabotage tasks. Mikage’s assets being Midori Mori/Jaedite Knight, Kairi Osaka/Nephrite Knight, Koito Kino/Zoisite Knight, and Hisako Ito/Kunzite Knight.

Amazonite’s plan was going to be sparked off with the end of the quarterfinal rounds of the tournament. Before then…

Chances for social interactions with folks pending on where the voters placed Mikage. Cheering on Sasha. Sasha doing his exhibition play fighting with Boris.

More than likely, based on the positioning of your assets, you would have disabled the Shadow Infection gas bombs similar to those Mikage disabled during Venus Aino’s album launch event far earlier in the quest which were pivotal to Amazonite’s plan to create more shadows of people in the crowd and competitors she hadn’t already tagged from their own negative emotions and harvest the pain of loss or the wrong kind of competitive emotions she was fostering in the competition for her masters.

So, things pop off. Azusa Mugen’s brief hosting of a part of the golden crystal pops off as she defends herself from a monster of some kind during the larger fight. Boris doing similar. Sasha being backed up by the Ghost of his sister that was revealed earlier in the quest. Realizing her plans were foiled, Amazonite doesn’t quite lose her cool but does an nuclear option by using earthquake style magic to collapse the floor of the big shell complex (riffing on the idea that much like for example madison square garden or the roman colosseum the arena floor covers a myriad of passageways and equipment going down one or two levels to hotswap the arena with effort and labor to go from one sport to another between hard floor sports, turf sports, or ice sports etc etc). People fall and get separated, efforts are heavily telegraphed as needing to turn to a lot of necessary civilian rescue and a vote is held about what needs doing as there is chaos and pending roll Mikage is more likely to have lost sight or track of some people.

And Koyomi in the depths beneath the Big Shell complex finds herself facing off alone against Amazonite as we perspective shift to her once I know what Mikage’s heading is, whether rescue or search for her sister. I was going to also have a vote for Mikage’s mental point of focus to pair with her action directive; which would have included the option to >believe in Sailor New Moon, believe in your sister.

Also, because of forewarning from Kairi to Naru, Paranormal Incident Task Force and Emergency Services respond to this one just a bit faster, including an eye in the sky to boots on the ground aiding in the armed defense of and active participation in search in rescue being on recent reassignment from the JSDF to the task force in Shingo Tsukino.

Anyway, onto the Koyomi perspective, this was going to be a pivotal moment, as Amazonite was going to sort of Mentor fight the girl. Unlike Kalunite’s cruel streak and Hematite’s lackadaisicalness, Amazonite has some respect for her foes and took certain cues from things Hiddenite has said about Sailor New Moon and his earlier encounters with her. She’s firmly established as the most reasonable of the Neo Shintennou; and understands why Sailor New Moon believes what she is doing is right and acknowledges that this is a fight between the righteous…but that belief alone can’t win a fight and is going to push Koyomi to the fucking brink. Koyomi vs Amazonite was something I’d long been looking forward too, even Amazonite’s sense of pity for Koyomi because she’s kind and gentle and shouldn’t be forced to have to do this, but Amazonite also respects the Senshi too much to try and force her to leave or treat her with kid gloves.

The dialogue beats I’ve forgotten a lot of, but the philosophical battle and physical battle was meant to resource drain Koyomi, while defeating Amazonite on her own or holding out for long enough for Mikage to arrive was possible...we’re geared for what was to come. Given the way Amazonite presents herself and her loyalties it would be heavily implied through the writing to be a good idea to diplomacy at her that yes, as Sailor New Moon she is a daughter of Serenity, but her father is also Endymion!

Amazonite would actually be after a very low social DC “Wait, what? That changes fucking everything! Tell me of the Prince and what is goi-urk!?” DARKNESS ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL.

The most likely outcome I was planning for was that either if Koyomi was knocked out or if the players choose to dig for it in desperation drawing on the silver crystal…that she would hit Princess Sailor Moon mode. Not Princess Dress mode. Princess Sailor Moon. Pic related.

It was a concept being borrowed from the 2008 Live Action, where Serenity subsumed Usagi to put the smack down on Beryl but it was dangerous because that phantom of the princess was one track minded about protecting Endymion consequences be damned. Here it would be Koyomi doing to herself out of desperation what Mikage did out of trauma in partitioning herself. Maybe a little embellishment to the idea that she wished she could be as strong as Mikagenee to overcome this, a warped perspective of her sister’s pragmatism and willingness to act decisively.

And depending on if they were K.O.’ed to achieve it or made the choices for it to happen would present how much of Princess Sailor Moon vs Amazonite the players would actually see.

KO: Koyomi can’t fail like this, she promised everyone. There would be this image of a gloved hand lifting her up and the glimpse of the crown guiding her back to her feet before she took over. Then it’s a smash cut to Mikage perspective arriving to see the Princess Sailor Moon over a defeated amazonite break back into regular Sailor New Moon.

Chosen desperation: Choices of combat actions vague, stat’s unseen, horrible displays of destructive power for each attack against Amazonite and decidedly noticeably different characterization.

Part of what’s happening to draw Mikage to the scene because of the scale of power happening if she wasn’t already successfully on her way between search and rescue or just failing prior rolls to locate Koyomi and Amazonite before the perspective shift.

When the powered up transformation breaks, Sailor Moon whips forward and cradles a dying Amazonite in her arms trying to heal her…despite the nature of her healing magic being deconstructive to the forces animating Amazonite.

“You’re still so very kind to try and save me at the end…but we both know if you want to win this thing for good, for what you think is right…Princess of the Earth and Moon, you must act unclouded by your heart…” and dies turns to small rock in her arms. Empty uniform. Inert stone.

Which brings us to falling action of the arc.

Team come down and debrief. Koyomi is upset but has steeled herself. Imagine Mikage’s player lead actions bolstering her or comforting her. Even if it was tough, the big shell complex counter attack was successful. The Senshi and the Knights again working in public and concert against the bad guys. TV Cameras & phones on scene capturing much of the conflict.

Social Drama with Moe Ueda, her crush on Sasha, Sasha’s coach, and magic punching. Boris hailed as Hero Bear who helped Senshi. Team dispersal and coming home, Koyomi still sad, holding onto the Amazonite rock. Get home.

Surprise! UNCLE SHINGO IS HERE! Bearhug lifts kids after jumping off the couch where he was chatting with Mamoru.

And that is the Big Shell Complex/Tokyo Dome arc. God this could have taken ten threads or more.

A social arc between big to dos, as we get ready for the upcoming Fashion Exhibit.

Day to day stuff before getting into the Akiyama’s Fashion Show at the Space 0 Exhibit Center. Not all of these would be pursued but would be options for time spent. Some of them are asides. Some of them would happen. Some would only happen if circumstantially provoked. And many other existing friend social interactions would be on the table.

-Spending time with Uncle Shingo who has stories from his travels and informs you about the nature of his reassignment and that Naru Osaka read him into the notion there might be a mole in PITT.
-Beating up Ueno, the guy who beat up Midori’s friend in former delinquency. complications because he brought magic shrine talismans of hold monster that work to a street fight against the alleged monstrous girl.
-Some time spent helping Mercury with her Darkness. References to a power spike she experienced during her big fight or some such. Perhaps the actual mental confrontation with a Dark Mercury Version of herself
-A date with Yoshi. Provide options for vote on the what & where of the date, the very formal terms of bringing the itinerary to his mother per the terms of you being able to take him on a date whilst he is grounded. Fluffy writing, social & relationship decisions, friends spying in typical everyone is up in each other’s business because its a Sailor Moon story.
-Start of Mikage’s partial withdraw for independent stud from classes and how that will free her time for the pending infiltration mission
-socializing with the renegade shadow girls (Evil Precure Crossover Characters) in their safe house. Learning a bit about the enemy’s motivations through them.
-Time spent with the Kalyke clone baby
-Diana with the plastic flip phone she got from the arcade becomes Sailor Diana in a similar aesthetic to the Live Action PGSM’s Sailor Luna.
-Nui Takeda’s personal drama, if time was spent with the Fashion Circle in prep for the Exhibit.
-The teasing that a Shadow Monster attack, sans a general, was going to happen at the fashion Exhibit.
-Kairi's considerations about Gai's invitation to travel after High School.
-Showing Gai Ginja/Estra the secret base in the Crowne Arcade Karaoke Rooms, in turn getting a space ship ride into LEO. Going to be a plant like Biotech ship, not a full on Doom Tree but very tree like, maybe cabin space the size of a minivan. Explaining that after their recent trip straight to earth, his little siblings’ (Terra & Striel) ship has taken root in one of his gardens to restore itself after being entirely spent.
-Koyomi having deep thoughts about her secondary Transformation, and about the face of the enemy she sees in her psionic telemetric dreams.
-Getting to know the new Pluto, as she still feels like a bit of an outsider between everyone else.
-Options to chill with the Asteroid Senshi.

It is easier than the last time I wrote like normal, but it's still not easy to maintain focus or energy.

Space 0/Yukiko Akiyama’s Fashion Exhibition Arc

This arc was going to be heavily grounded in the mundane interpersonal stuff. I know I was teasing in the lead up to this arc a few years back that it was jinxed because people were hoping it went unmolested by monstrous interruption…but honestly any problems that happened here that Mikage and company had to deal with were going to be entirely mundane. There was actually going to be a near monster attack that happened during things at the height of the Fashion Show portion while the girls were taking their turns on the stage & catwalk…but it was going to be preempted by the sheer number of capable allies who would be in the audience.

Sasha would be there because he has multiple friends in attendance on stage and in the audience to go with, including Azusa Mugen who would have just come into her own latent magical abilities. Yoshi would be there because how is he not going to support Mikage being in a fashion show even if he’s grounded, and with his mother there in a chaperone capacity along with a gentleman (Jo) she’s been dating to introduce him to her son. This reality’s version of her wouldn’t be magical but Momoko Nakajima would be there with her real ass goddamn sword as always. Koito, Kairi, Hisako, Kanari, Koyomi, Aiha, Rin, Ranko, Setsuna, Ryo (Aiha’s Dad & Predictive Psychic), Thaigo (Kanari & Koito’s dad), Yoichiro (Rin’s dad), Uncle Shingo, and Mamoru would be in the audience. I’d have done some back research on photographers and fashion design characters and models turned industry vets who would have definitely appeared in previous seasons of Sailor Moon to be audience participants or celebrities, including the guy who fell head over heels for Fish Eye in Super S.

The monster interruption is taken care of offscreen with allusions to it happening in an interlude or 3. Something stalking the venue and amassing it’s power, only for either the three so inclined grownups or some combination of empowered teens. More than likely Ryo 100% sees it coming, and lets Mamoru & Setsuna know as to not interrupt the kids enjoying themselves while out, but I might have left it to a vote as to who notices it or goes to take care of it, with there being a non zero chance of Crane Machine Jo slamming it against a wall repeatedly with Telekinesis because he refuses to let the bullshit of the assholes who put him in a cage interrupt this nice outing with his girlfriend and her kid. Or Sasha Martial Adepts at it REALLY good. Or Yoshi uses his only defined bardic harbinger abilities to debuff and intimidate it. Momoko with a real ass goddamn sword? Quick young Senshi sans Venus blasting it with no chill and coming back like nothing happened? Kairi, Hisako, and Koito making it go Knighty night? Uncle Shingo kicking ass and chewing bubblegum…maybe with a magic bubble gun his big sis gave him because he can’t haul his magic sniper rifle Artemis made for him around like that? Or some fell or hilarious combination there of thanks to vote deadlock that I’m sure would have had implications of who may or may not know what?

The rest of the Primroses would be there in a backstage capacity appearing with frequency and frenetic task to task actions. Getting interactions with Mikage. Panya would definitely have given her a cupcake; Akiyama yelling at her to stop giving baked goods to her models while they’re wearing her original works for sure. I feel compelled at this point to note and remind folks that the Primroses were loosely based on the principal cast of Lauren Fausts’s iteration of My Little Pony, when they were first introduced no one picked up on it so I ran with it.

Besides a few hired models for Akiyama’s show; Mikage, Nui, Hanako, Venus-chan, Moe(after all this time I should clarify pronounced M Long o long e), Midori, and Saori would all be on multiple turns of the catwalk.

It would include a major character arc moment for Saori, where it would probably fall to Mikage’s intervention pre-show to get her over her anxiety about this and just treat the rest of the world as if it were invisible as she takes her first turn on the Catwalk.

There would be a moment mid show where Mikage is wearing one of Akiyama’s Ganguro themed Sailor Moon inspired outfits and it would be a moment of large personal introspection for Mikage as cameras flash and audience watches. The nature of what she’s wearing. Saves vs Trauma and the opportunity to self buff the role with everything that’s happened. And a specific decision post arc in the falling action before the next between arc which I’ll specify later on in this write up arc summary.

But the flow of the arc would start in the days before the show with Nui stuff. With the lead up being in school with Nui being in a mood after letting her family know what she would be participating in, because their reaction would have been complex between her Father, Mother, Maternal Grandfather, and other members of her family because it's a whole ass goddamn formerly aristocratic clan the scope of which I hadn’t fully plotted out. They don’t outright deny her the attempt, but people with normal real world money & power are gonna move at problems or obstacles sideways like a Sidereal Exalted for those of you /tg/ enough to get that reference.

Drama would start with Akiyama pissed off that through proxies and political/financial pressure someone is trying to cancel their booking of the Space 0 Exhibition area of the Omotesando Hills Shopping Mall; Nui is ready to j’accuse her family and needs to rally her friends between the circle and Akiyama’s group to make an appeal against them for this as it is not just punitive against her but more people. Akiyama, willing to immediately, or nearly so, threaten legal action because bitch she too comes from old money and power if no one stops her. Mikage having options to try and diplomance there or via prepwork because political maneuvering is involved see if she can tap her father about this because it’s good to have responsible adults on side. There is a random chance that because Venus-chan is very upset by this ongoing attempt she’ll hatch a plan with Rin to mobilize The Kumada family if Mikage doesn’t petition that level of aid as well.

Nui’s family does not want to be cowed. Their backoff conditions are several. Being outright legal threatened and with the creation of a publicly scandalized feud from Akiyama will make them back off from their efforts at getting the show canceled, but escalate them to sabotage it or see their daughter forcibly uninvolved in other ways. If there is no legal threat but the pressure of the Kumadas & the Akiyamas and the public Government Liaison to the Sailor Senshi they would back off and commend Nui for the maneuvering and marshaling of political allyship; then names her heir to the Clan’s leadership which absolutely floors Nui, who is the only person who understands this as a bad thing for her plans for her own future, especially with Daigo Endo. If no appeal is made to Nui’s family, and Akiyama declares she’ll just use her own connections and Venus-chan’s to brute force keeping ahold of her venue and show date, mundane sabotage will be attempted as a petty punitive action and or they will openly bar Nui from participating.

Pending Nui’s mood/threshold of social combat damage taken, through any of this she’ll either stick to her guns on the show, or realizing her friends will be threatened and back out of the show hoping everyone else has a good show, or say she won’t participate and then sneak out and do it anyway which will have some degree of fallout. There would be a chance you’ll have to do a break out of or an assisted sneak out of Nui for the show. Or, just straight super pumped inhuman levels of diplomacy on Nui’s behalf can prevail due to competing motivations between different members of the Takeda clan pending on who makes the rolls. If its an attack on them or if its done in respectful formal style.

In the lead up to the meeting, through Yoshi or checking in on him directly you will find Daigo Endo in a state of massive indecision and upset from which you can choose to do nothing, convince him to trust in Nui, convince him to be present for the familial appeal as one of her friends and supporters, or to derail everything by as a no one from a nowhere family convincing him to petition the Takeda’s for permission to court Nui. Shenanigans follow, because before or after the show, shenanigans will follow.

Possible mundane sabotage or interference to be committed by the Takedas against the show.

Possible mundane things to do to bar Nui from participating if she isn’t cowed by her family or refuses to feign dropping out, in which Mikage notices Nui is missing anywhere from a day before or closing in on the 11th hour of the show pending actions and other cast member rolls. I’ll leave to your imagination the scope of possible avenues of countering these after the fact, or if Mikage would have been paranoid enough to Shadow Nui and intercept the ones that were reasonably interruptible.

As you can see, pressure before the start of the show. Risk and pressure potentially during the show. This could turn out wild in any number of ways based on player rolls and decisions. It would have taken for fucking ever, but a major thing no matter what that in either a supportive manner or a rescue manner or a problem solving manner: Daigo Endo would be doing his hardest to come in clutch for Nui. Whether he succeeds or not is circumstantially dependent on player action. Like if it’s just hired goons busting up audio equipment Daigo and Yoshi just do the thing no problem or worries.

Fallout if any? Not sure. Maximum prevention of scandal, probably. Akiyama doing some social maneuvering and publicly thanking the family during closing of the fashion show exhibition without revealing their attempted sabotage, likely. I don’t doubt any of you would have Mikage do anything less than run circles around this scenario.

At the end of the day though, someone in Nui’s family will seek to crush whoever they feel after the fact is a bad influence on their daughter and that won’t have too much of an impact on the broader quest but was just some massive social drama without end of the world stakes…but major stakes of a person’s heart which for a Sailor Moon Quest is maybe just as important.

Seriously though I imagine Mikage finding out Nui is stranded in another part of the country, and if she didn’t just force tag along already, “Nui, we can get you home. I just need you to put this bag on your head and not ask questions,” “Miki what the hell are yo-” “No questions. Yes or No?” “...yes?” subsequent abuse of sailor powers, spells, or Estra’s ship follows. More mundanely, Daigo’s Van making a Blues Bros esque run.

This was all meant to just be ridiculous and light hearted before the things that come next.

And of course if the show goes off with minimal hitches there are good things for Akiyama’s career. Good social bonds for everyone involved. A good time to be had by all. And in the day of the show I imagine also some Mall Crawling where the venue is situated. And during the show a lot of outfit descriptions and reactions.

In the post arc falling action is more social stuff relevant to the aftermath, if any, dealing with the Nui Drama or debts. Family time. Bonding with the girls. More Uncle Shingo. And…the VOTE For OPENING the INSTRUMENT CASE, for those unfamiliar this is related to the preamble of the quest revealed early on regarding the trauma that caused Mikage to abandon being sailor moon.

End of Space 0 Exhibition Arc

...also totally an excuse to pull an Uno Reversal considering how many of Naoka Takeuchi's costume designs were based on outfits from fashions shows.

Oh, and maybe Salon Work by our favorite phantom sisters for the show based on Mikage's recommendation if one of the sabotages included messing up access to Akiyama's usual hair and makeup people?

And, just to say, this would have been a very Zodiac Academy Girls/Primroses heavy arc. It doesn't quite come across in the summary because of the level of branching Nui's family Drama fuckery I had planned which could also be completely no selled or avoided.

This arc would have been good to have Mikage get closer to the Primroses. I think she already respects the level of friendship they all have with each other and would get along well with all of them in some capacity or another. Especially since she keeps interacting with them it just makes sense at this point. It's also partly why I also see them there for what would be endgame.
And, them hanging around near a font of Earth magic probably also gave them some abilities too.

Really, the story was born out of Mikage herself. As I once said, Mikage may have given up the mantle of Sailor Moon, but looking at her actions it’s clear she never stopped believing in love and justice.

I can see it happening thanks to a combination of Mikage not talking about how she was feeling and the adults failing to realize that her not speaking up wasn’t her not being bothered by her situation with Chibi-Usa.

I think Mikage would have been fine as Sailor Moon, the adults just didn’t explain her connection to Chibi-Usa when they should have, so that remained an issue lurking under the surface until the day Mikage’s need to prove herself sent her out alone. Kind of reminds me of what Koito faced, though his situation was his family having a special history and not telling him about it.

Two Topics Turned into a Singular Arc? Well Shadow Girls are the PITT’s

…no, that actually needs work. Good thing I haven’t actually written it because there would have been several thread titles.

Anyway as discussed the vote would have probably veered toward OPENING. And you aren’t opening a traditional instrument case. It’s a hardcase or a pelican case you’d expect in a military hardware or A/V hardware setting with double flip clips. It's a small one, the interior lined with eggshell foam cut to shape around the object within.

After over describing Mikage going through the process of opening it, every other sentence being about her trepidation and some rolls to the effect of how long this takes her, it would be described as a normal flute surrounded by dust and tiny fragment shards of white, pink, red, and gold plastic like ceramics. The same material I’ve described the transformation items being made of previously.

A slow and somber scene to counter the energy and adulations of the arc behind her, as she struggles and quietly cries, a shout or gasp dying in her throat as her hands clasp over her mouth looking to restrain a sick or overwhelmed sensation. A need for the pills to steady her rising panic because she refuses to look away from this. Looking back over toward the Sailor Moon themed outfit she wore on the catwalk. Pulling at the locket around her neck straining the chain until she calmed. Flashes of the desperate fight against Quartzite from the preamble.

The question she asks in her inner dialogue of herself is as intrapersonal as it gets. What did it mean to be Sailor Moon, to me? What did I think of Sailor Moon it meant to those around me? What being Sailor Moon means to mom? To Usa? To Koyomi.

What would they have done if faced with the same challenge? Would they have done like I did? This part she asks no one allowed.

Luna is by the door, the cat remembering the sacrifices she saw the girls mother and sister make of themselves in desperate times. Sacrificing themselves, and specifically in Usagi’s case, watching her friends die one by one in the final assault on Beryl’s Castle until she faced the darkness alone. Giving up everything in the end with no certainty of what would happen next.

Then how she forgot, all of them living normal lives until things started again. How she wished they never had to suffer remembering…or how Mikage herself had to suffer what she went through, how we will always regret some things. She can’t speak for what being Sailor Moon meant to each of them, but she knows that it meant they had to make sacrifices and overcome hardship.

Mikage would reach out for the flute, then hesitated before closing the case and pushing it away. There’s no shouting about anything, no anger at being disturbed. She just says she thinks she’s turning in now. Luna acquiesce and before drifting off Mikage laments about a few things. There would have been votes in the exchange for certain. Maybe you wouldn’t have chosen to close the case after thinking about things.

But the next day next thread would be at the door of the safe house where the 4 Shadow Girls(crossover alternates of Masako & her sisters from Evil Precure Quest) with Naru Osaka in tow, and pending vote one or more of your Knights.

It would be thread long negotiations and planning out of how the fake fight is going to go and Naru offering new lives for them and identities. A major mark being that they wouldn’t fight for the enemy that made them and they’re not going to fight for you against them, and how that’s okay because they didn’t choose to exist and you can’t expect them to fight.

During successful points of Negotiation it would flash forward to the next day when the fight would happen with dice rolls for the performance and everything else including twists and turns. Even a reveal of Hematite and Hiddenite watching events unfold from a vantage point. Cool action sequences, some actual clashing before high quality Jadeite Knight Illusions cover the finale & “purification” by the Senshi.

Following this would be Eclipse and her four Knights arriving in the Paranormal Incident Task Force Base; which would be in an office building that is part of the campus of offices around the Tokyo Metropolitan Tower. Though many military personnel there would be plenty of bureaucratic white shirts around; aesthetics of the space directly influenced by the visuals of Shin Godzilla. The civilian day to day support staff whispering about Eclipse and the others; and being escorted by Naru Osaka to meet with Commander Maru (played by George Takei) and as they enter his office the Think Tank leader, Jonathan Ward Chou, and Mamoru Chiba are leaving the office.

Its a long delayed introduction to Mikage of Commander Maru, who speaks with Osaka and the Knights about the likelihood that the Task Force has a Mole or is otherwise compromised. He invites purification magic, which Zoisite Knight can readily supply, and expresses that he has hand selected a small support staff to held coordinate with the asset that Naru has told the Commander is primed to infiltrate the enemy forces.

Upon revealing the intent to use the Red Eyed Beast, Commander Maru reveals what the Paranormal Incident Task Force knows about the Beast…which is a surprising amount to Mikage, and plans they were still waiting on external govt, military, or law enforcement approval to act on regarding apprehension or containment.

Flashback to the concern that Mikage had during the Ueno fight a few summary posts back.

Its tense, but professional, and hopefully would culminate in the players and Mikage developing a respect and understanding of Commander Maru.

The arc would end with falling action of Mikage putting some personal affairs in order as she prepares to go under. Allies and a few new PITT tied support crew being bag taken to war room mode Karaoke Base, with Saori, Sasha, and Yeon-Sek masking up alongside these bridge bunnies plus Naru Osaka for the infiltration arc. And then, arriving at the appointed location and making contact with a shadow monster that was waiting for her arrival, and boarding the strange ship waiting for her.

End of transitive arc.

Infiltration Arc or A Walk into the Darkness

The opening interludes of this arc is attendance being taken in the classroom. Something that of course falls to the class rep, who pauses and lingers at a crossed off name, while then looking up at an empty desk on the hallway side wall of the classroom. Keiko, Midori, Kairi, Saori, and Gai all consider the empty space as well and Kairi spares a look directly at Yoshi. Descriptions of everyone’s feelings and promises of later conversations to be had. Maybe a flashback to a date between Yoshi and Mikage where she explained she’d be going undercover for a bit.

Setsuna Meioh talking to Kinzoku Sensei outside of the high school, about how the infiltration has begun, Kinzoku-sensei talking about how she is able to detect so much small Chaos dispersed throughout the city as she presents an unspent Psychic Drug pen citing them as the cause.

Johnathan Ward Cho(played by Shah Rukh Khan) looking up at the sky from his office as the windows are finished being repaired, sitting down and reviewing paperwork of the Paranormal Incident Think Tank. His own narration dreaming of the stars and what awaits beyond Earth; for his personal gain and the fringe benefit of elevating all of mankind and the deal with the devil he made to accomplish those dreams within his lifetime. Looking at a design document proposal for something called Aries Colony.

Diana in cat form running over rooftops following the thing humans can’t see, a ship, not heading to the edge of the city and possibly the prefecture to the west this time.

The Red Eyed Beast sits in what is more easily described as a troop transport bay, alone. En route to a base being used by Shadow Elysion. Dr Borealis is on the ship, entering the bay, saying how appreciative he is that she accepted his master’s offer. Welcomes, platitudes, promises of a tour.

Psychically the conversation is very different. If she is here earnestly, or if she is heeding his warnings about the trust one should have in Shadow Elysion and it’s Zealots.

From here it is internally how you the players would have Mikage Proceed in guise. Introduction to the base proper with Hiddenite and Kalunite. Numerous Monsters just chilling or working. Black suited Goons and henchmen. There’d be new characters, people to socialize with and investigate, and you’d have a secret communication line to the bridge bunnies from the Paranormal Incident Task Force and your own team while the majority of your Knights and the Senshi are still running missions and sorting out monster problems.

You’d get to learn about the defeated and still around. Hiddenite’s once relationship to Amazonite, that he’s still human and has been the whole time. The Master being regarded as “Prince Aeolus” the last prince of Elysion, forgotten by Mamoru little brother of Endymion, a calcified body in an ancient magitek stasis pod similar to the one that allowed Hiddenite to survive unto the modern age save for brief periods of waking throughout history. Prince Aeolus looks as he did in Koyomi’s drawings and dreams, and the revelation of his plan to restore Elysion as the kingdom of earth for the benefit of all mankind. And just…just a ton of new characters on the bad guy side. I can’t even begin to prod that and the cast is already more bloated than the kind of women I like taking to buffet dates.

Which is a bold faced lie. As over time we discover that the body of Prince Aeolus is 100% a Chaos Vessel and the cloning of Endymion’s mother was to make a suitable vessel to abandon Aeolus for to become Sailor Chaos under the promise to Hiddenite, and as you would learn to Johnathan Ward Cho of Ellis Unlimited as well to little surprise, that the clone was sold as the creation of a Sailor Earth that Earth once it has its generals and Golden Crystal would stand on equal or greater footing than the Senshi of the lost Silver Millenium that once lorded over them. Many of the Shadows are other Elysion era humans resurrected not as full generals but as believers in this lie aside from those who have bought into things. The scope of enemy action deeper and more prepared than they thought in its scale. And not just in Tokyo.

So, two or three monster attacks or actions will be witnessed or even participated in from behind enemy lines by Mikage (locally or abroad, you may even have to fake fight the Asteroid Senshi). Interludes showing us how everyone is doing on the other side, how her friends are covering for the majority of her absence. Midori using illusions to cover for Mikage occasionally being placed or doing work for her independent study. The rising tension among the adults, especially Mamoru, after learning how Amazonite reacted to Endymion Lives and later the crushing flood of memory that he at one point was an older brother in his past life. Yoshi being worried and confiding in Kairi, Midori, and Keiko his concern over Mikage’s absence and how empty and frustrating it was “performing” a date with Mikage opposite an illusion of Midori acting like Mikage to keep up appearances.

The revelation that Quartzite’s stone is in enemy possession but they cannot raise the former scientist general that once possessed Dr. Gurio Umino’s(Kairi’s Dad) body as while the rock is definitely an inert consciousness the frozen neural pathways are too different and oversaturated with anti corruption magic compared to when it was first found to use Prince Aeolus’s power to animate again as they had the other Chaos Killed Elysions, even image maps in Dr. Borealis’s lair he explains as the internal structure of the stone before and after and how they are entirely different. The next thread would start in Mikage’s bedroom as she wakes up and stretching before scritching behind the ears of a perfectly mundane kitten she calls Diana-chan with no moon crest on it and thread going “You’re Mikage Chiba; fifteen yea- that’s not right anymore, sixteen year old highschool student and today is your birthday!” as we have our probably several threads long BLACK MERCY/For the Girl who has everything story.

And it’s a completely normal life blending aspects of who she is. Nerd, Street, Fighting, the circle, being friends with the people she’s friends with. Sisters, Parents. No magic. No monsters. Everyday life. Somehow in the lives of everyone she knows and has touched but removed from the context of Sailor Moon at all. Things like Hotaru being her homeroom teacher and praising her. Having sitcom/shoujou comic-esque problems double booking a potential date. An endless and too long day of a birthday that carries on with glitches and discordance in the fringes when things don’t add up with scene jumps and etc with occasionally the storm drain that lead to Magician’s Lair appearing in the background where it shouldn’t. More than a few times.

When you finally come out of it. When it all comes crashing back to her, it’s too much. There are rolls but the DC’s at play or the social damage accrued over time in the illusion which would be presented to the players whenever they pushed back against it or under other conditions, might lead to a near freakout and getting in trouble in the presence of Mettalia Aeolus. Because there is a realization that even after increasing her shadow threshold, Mettalia Aeolus cannot assume direct control of Red Eyes, and realizes where he knows those eyes from.

And no matter when this happens, if a few more beats after this or what not, Diana arrives as the extraction. Putting herself in human form between the danger and Mikage in red eyes mode.

I could see Aeolus sending Borealis back to base human, revealing that the Beast was working for him the whole time, telling Borealis that if he can get out of the base alive he can go free, and then turning to us and telling us to give him a ten second head start and then hunt him down and kill him.

I posted this elsewhere once, but I think it is worth bringing up given this is the end. One thing I did kind of realize is that the point of divergence for the Eclipsed Moon timeline from the one that would form Usa's is probably the conception of Mikage herself. Knowing she was pregnant is probably why Usagi and Mamoru got married earlier, right after Usagi graduates high school and is actually already 2 months pregnant with Mikage since Mikage is unlike Usagi or Chibi-Usa born in October and not June, than they would have and having a child put it in the other's heads that they could also settle down, hence when she does meet someone Makoto takes that chance herself. It also means they have much more of a reason to try to stop Neo Crystal Tokyo from happening. In the end, Mikage's existence changed everything.

Chaos Invasion Arc

First thread of this arc opens almost identically to the first Black Mercy/What do you get the girl who has everything, except for when Diana jumps down onto her lap in bed for scritches and Diana is real Diana and talks and has her moon crest, but it is also actually Mikage’s 16th birthday, though she isn’t jazzed about it. Some time is spent looking at the hard case again,opening it, and reminiscing about the forced dream of happiness, of playing music on a flute that meant nothing to a version of her without her trauma. Of sadness and hurt. She holds the flute a moment and sets it down before digging into her closet for a dust topped box containing replacement reeds, screws, pieces of small rubber, and assorted tiny washers and discs.

She is slowly and methodically replacing the reed and making minor repairs to the normal flute when Koyomi bursts into the room with a paper hat in one hand, a card in another, and a paper hat on her head, a noise maker in her mouth. She tweets the rolling out noisemaker and releases it to declare HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mikage.

And honestly. This is also exactly what dream Koyomi did.

Interlude interrupting. Commander Maru grapples with what he has known for a few weeks now since early on in the infiltration, that Cho cannot be trusted, that there are other likely security failures within the organization because of this. He reviews personnel data, and deliberately pauses to open his office window before Captain Osaka comes in with a few JSDF intermediaries, and a few representatives intermediaries from the Diet.

“We do not have as much time as we had hoped…and mobilization will immediately tip our hand on this advanced warning,”

The room breaks out in rampant discussion until one Diet intermediary calms everyone down before dropping a spent psychic power drug and shouting less time than you think while lunging at Commander Maru with flames bursting from their now roided looking body…though that all collapses with a sudden jerking movement as they are impacted by a burst of expanding foam that plasters them against the wall next to the door.

Shingo Tsukino blows smoke off of a barrel from a perch on the Metropolitan tower.

Commander Maru give the order to Mobilize as discreetly as possible. Its already begun.

Mikage’s Birthday is going well. On her way to school with her sister to turn in an assignment and take an exam. It’s a good and normal day, friends collecting at intersections as everyone makes their way to school. For the sake of marking herself present for her short morning at the building she’ll show up to homeroom to see everyone.

She understands and begins bringing up the other Senshi. Wide shot as the moon itself drifts around the earth.

Kinzoku-sensei is talking about tonight’s Lunar Eclipse to a mostly full class with Mikage not present. We find Mikage in the library being observed for an exam and turning it in. I’d have probably done more thorough research on Autumn Lunar festivals and moon viewing parties at this point. Taking a test, academic rolls. Normalcy. Turning it into the librarian/observer and then going to stretch your legs and say hi to folks for lunch when Air Raid Sirens sound throughout the city. Principal Sakurada coming across the loudspeakers warning of an emergency government issued shelter in place order, advising students to get away from the windows and congregate in the restored gymnasium.

Communicator going off, Yeon-Sek and the bridge bunnies at base issuing notice that attacks are starting in Tokyo, multiple locations.

Votes about issuing directing the Senshi. Directing Mikage. Directing her Knights and assets.

Targets under imminent threat.

Limited reports of international attacks as of yet. Multiple Monsters & Lesser Shadows breaking off and roaming through the city suddenly. Reports of people who’ve used psychic drugs transforming.

It’s a decision of where to spend your resources and self in protracted big fights. Things go all day.

Captain Osaka and Commander Maru fighting their way out of their own headquarters alongside other soldiers. Uncle Shingo doing things in the metro building as Mamoru gets people into barricaded corridors and panic rooms before donning his tophat and cane.

However this plays, it’s a long and tough one with so many variable points to how you work through taking points during the counter attack.

Seeing Professor Tomoe using his SCIENCE and ridiculous personality for good while fighting alongside Hotaru like old times except it feels better/right like as equals instead of mentor mentee. Infinity Students with it showing off some magic.

Metro Building working with Mamoru and Shingo until you make it to Naru and Commander Maru. Having an initial fight against Metallia Aeolus.
Tokyo Tower round two is full of wondrous death defying heights
Ellis Construction Site is actually a rally and deploy point with a different generator set up.

And as you finish one, you need to probably regroup, touch base, learn what others are up to in victory, defeat, and new intel and move on to the next as new places become targets over time. Including the Juuban Municipal Junior High School.

Surprise moments as the Shadow Girls come back when they were free and clear because they can’t leave well enough alone after all.

Your friends and allies are either endangered or showing that they aren’t afraid to fight, like if Nui doesn’t fight ninjas in her family home the shorty goes wild with a Naginata in the streets for example. I think I’ve well established the way.

There is no way to easily summarize things, as it moves forward and burns through the day from crisis to crisis in the invasion. With Broadcasts about the Liberation of Earth beginning in Tokyo.

Choices about the information you counter them with. This was the big show. This was veritably the march on to the end of the night where the bad guy play is to try and infect the shadow of the Moon itself with the Chaos Infection.

Maybe you figured that out during the Infiltration Arc. Maybe you didn’t. However during this war Arc there are risks and stakes and a chance of people Mikage knows and cares about falling the closer it gets to the end. Senshi are fighting. Asteroid Senshi are Fighting. Koyomi, probably confiding in her sister during the various down times before redeploying from the Crowne Arcade about the power of Princess Sailor Moon transformation if Mikage didn’t witness it during the Infiltration Arc. Sailor Papillon, Sailor Diana, and Kunzite Knight shine here for their purifying powers where Eclipse and Sailor New Moon can’t be. To a lesser extent so can Azusa and Boris and high skill Psychics or Priests of any faith who have actual power like Rei’s family did.

If you managed to paperclip Borealis, he in a human state would be actively helping with counter measures having mad magitek/science arguments with Dr Tomoe. Don’t doubt he wouldn’t try to get ahead of things on his own because he seriously can’t be trusted, but he could have his use for intel. Then again he also knows about who is who from his earlier spying and that could be something he could attempt to exploit.

Anyway, Hematite falls at some point in all this, and I wasn’t decided upon whether or not this would have the stakes of the dice falling where they may; and that means this is your march onto D Point. Can you stop everyone from getting hurt?

Metallia Aeolus is set to declare their plan with the Moon’s shadow as some Skybeams happen across the world and a big Chaos Palace rises… then nothing happens and the planet is enveloped in some kind of Sailor Planet Power Shield.

Mama Senshi are at various points in the sky across the globe holding the line. Hiddenite’s eyes are opened to what he has been serving and who Mikage and Koyomi are and he makes a sacrifice play to try and weaken or stop Chaos Aeolus, but is shut down hard. Lamenting his blind loyalty and happy to see the children of Endymion. Though he has magitek cybernetics, he never took any of the animating darkness, and has always been human. Living and dying as the last living man of Elysion.

Mikage, Koyomi, and those who can march on the risen Chaos Palace.

End Invasion Arc

Well holy shit. That would have been epic. And yeah, it's easy to see all of the extended cast in various ways would have definitely been showing up here. The Primroses, some of the ganguro girls, Azusa and Boris, Sasha, really all the side characters built up over the course of this. I have a feeling I would have easily voted for going to where one of the Dark Generals was or Tokyo Tower. Would be a pretty apt place to go really. Especially if we got more interaction and knowledge of him in Infiltration arc or through the Shitennou, Hiddenite's heel-face turn and death would actually be a genuinely moving thing. I think, with Hiddenite, it would need to be more than Mikage and Koyomi, though he would have by this point interacted with both a lot. He would need to come face-to-face with Tuxedo Mask. Also, it's interesting if this is all happening on Halloween/Mikage's birthday than that means the beginning of the end would start on All Hallow's Day.

And before I forget, Aeolus taking a wound while giving Mamoru a near fatal wound taking him out of the final confrontation.


And baby Kalyke alone in the streets as the Chaos palace looms, watching sadly.

Some things never change.

The Universe is infinite, and this galaxy is one brilliantly shining swirl in an uncountable void. And it does shine, from its very core. Where there waits a well of life different from the cores of the many galaxies where my extant self reigns and others where I do not. A beacon in the dark between stars and the breadth between galaxies where things like me but not of my extant self await. The Galaxy Cauldron beckons, but now this form of me cannot reach it, though I am the shadow cast by its light. Metallia is gone. Pharoh 90 is gone. Salior Galaxia is cleansed…here I am the most whole entity of my disparate extant self…and all things unravel against my will…I need shed this husk, draw into myself what I can of what I spent to undo the binding my essence and be unbound by any concept of identity to overcome that which I face now.

The Finale. A Ballad of Chaos

Koyomi and Mikage move toward the Palace of Chaos. It is most likely that they are joined by Kairi, Midori, Koito, Hisako, Keiko, Aiha, Rin, Kanari, Venus-chan, & Ranko. This is the march into the Chaos Palace. Inside are folded spaces, broken components of the base that Mikage infiltrated. Somber atmosphere, city behind them in hopeful ruins as people watch, huddled for safety or in the streets.

Allies and NPC’s all over. In the saved but still distraught state of the Airport, Toriko-sensei who was returning to Tokyo when things popped off is frustratedly trying to free their luggage on the carousel from underneath some rubble while stealing glances at the news. Sugao Saito watches the palace loom somewhere in the city then says “Gambate Venus-chan,” then at the shield in the sky, “Aino-san,” and pulls off his sequinned jacket and rolls up his ruffled sleeves to help unload a truck of bottled water alongside uniformed relief workers and regular people amid a ruined street where people are gathering. Sophia sits in triage hospital, looking down at her bandaged hand and slung arm before pulling a flask out of her torn up jacket. Members of Malefic Black without their extensive stage makeup and looking worse for wear carrying people through the crosswalk in Shibuya. Mugen Academy Students watching the sky pensively, Moe Ueda, Azusa Mugen, Momoko Nakajima, and the Witch & Devil from Yoshi’s band in their school uniforms watch the distant palace in pensive worry. Hanako looking around worriedly near the wreck of her apartment calling out for Hisako. Nui and Endo Student doing student council stuff in the school gymnasium full of Junior High and Highschool students, wordlessly hyper resolved and near tears as we see part of the wall collapsed in the earlier fighting and exposed facing the athletic field (Damage done to the statues) and the busted up middle school.

Principal Sakurada talking to her counterpart from across the field going over papers and emergency clipboards. Someone from Nui’s family arrives with aid supplies, apologizing to her. Ueno injured crawls through the streets of Azujuuban, cursing and bleeding. Suddenly getting kicked in the side; it’s a beat up Kanegami, who then helps him up and with arm across his shoulder helps him walk. Saori, the Bridge Bunnies, Yeon-Sek in the Crowne. The Tsukinos in a safe house. The Asteroid Senshi looking frustrated, only for all of them to do the close up on their face, eyes searching for something to a rising trill sound bit in four quick successive descriptions, “Sorry I kept you waiting, everyone,” says an unknown party. Sailor Saturn looking to the sky alongside Helios on the roof of Mugen Gakusei, both smiling. Estra, Terra, and Striel are helping float people out of danger or using the ship that was instrumental in some deployments to rescue folks from large buildings.

I don’t know what challenges I’d have waiting, but Monstrous Chaos Knights or death trap rooms or…challenges to pear things down or separate people until it’s just Koyomi and Mikage on the final march. Descriptions of fights, of sacrifice, of the completion of personal character arcs overcoming challenges and ideals set to the characters ideals or personal struggles. Individually reactive nightmares that take shape after first exchange of blows.

Aiha defeats an enemy by letting her psychic potential be unbound and mixing it with her magic. She does not fear her potential for darkness that the monster tries to face her with the living nightmare of her own potential anymore, because she knows she has friends and guiding lights.

Kanari keeps her absolute cool against someone trying to goad her into anger and Koito actually acts in decisive righteous anger to protect the people he cares about alongside her. The Thunder Twins are in synch and full trust, and that they aren’t outsiders. Zoisite’s stone breaks as his ghost defends them and gives them an opening.

Midori dispels her worries about being an outsider and is proud there are people who accept and love her, and breaks the shackles of her drowning nightmare for good, revealing that in the earliest version of the nightmare there was no Miki above and no Keiko sinking below…but her mother in the forest with open arms asking her to join her. She finally says goodbye. Jaedite’s stone breaks as his Ghost buys her time to let go of this ghost of the past by holding back the monster masquerading as her nightmare and falls to the forest.

Kairi faces a clownish version of herself slowly growing into the monster she was turned into during the preamble. Taunting her. She overcomes the source of her loneliness and isolation because it has no power over her. Nephrite’s stone shatters as his ghost helps pour his all into a Starlight Attack that holds the laughing fiend fast giving Kairi the chance to finish the job.

Rin overcomes the certainty of the future, walking a path assailing her with every possibility in flame and ruin. Declaring that its no longer about the future ahead but about the future she chooses, burning the possibilities ahead of her down to one, the defeat of the monster praying on her fears.

Venus-chan is stricken, and in a sickbed fighting a monster telling her that there is no more time left. That its time to let go. Venus-chan breaks the illusory enchantment because she made peace with her end a long time ago, and she hasn’t feared death for a very long time. Explaining that what she fears now, breaking the frail illusion of herself around her, is not making the most of the life ahead of her now that she has a new chance, and that this monster isn’t very good at capitalizing on that fear. The entire time she is beam spamming him and her eyes reflect the destructive radiance with child like innocence and happiness.

Ranko is faced with the frozen world and the fear she has of her power being out of her command. Of the distance she sometimes felt with her mother; a point that we would have had the chance to build on in prior interludes that never got written or interactions that would have happened in summarized arcs. Because, she knows this isn’t frozen time, she’ll show this nightmare monster what time manipulation feels like as she beats him down with her staff of office.

Hisako deals with her tension about growing up, and leaving the past behind her in things we didn’t really get the chance to flesh out via interactions with her before hiatus and summaries. Her worries about the future and what she’s supposed to do and be in regards to being a responsible adult. Kunzite’s stone breaks as his ghost helps her deal with the nightmare (Knightmares? Is that a better name for these final march monsters?).

Keiko in pure plasma and light just fucks her Knightmare up as it tries to Beryl at her because fuck you she is the sun and she hits her power up state here Sailor Sol Unconquered before blasting forward.

As each Knightmare is defeated. Shadows rocket toward the core of the palace. Shadow energy breaking from it’s stores used or defeated all over the city is released. Defeated or detained minorly empowered Elysions revert to stone statues. Psychic thugs not monsterfied depower. Defeated monsters fully depower back to people or nothing pending if they are shed shadows or not. The Shadowgirls are stripped of their powered states and are in whatever normal clothes they were wearing before joining the fray, human.

Koyomi & Mikage face a big Knightmare that is actually overcome by Mikage’s problems. Trying to manifest itself between Mikage’s old nightmares and Koyomi’s worries about her sister and some fear of her own power…but it just explodes after pulling a Death Scene of Matt Hagen for those of you who get the BTAS reference.

There is a massive shadow shield where everything is coalescing and the walkway is guarded by Metallia Aeolus…except with blank eyes and jerky movements.

During the fight both girls get psychometric flashes of communication between actions and attacks.

I’ve been asleep for so long, in my dreams calling for help to no one

Until I saw first one face and then another

I thought at first I looked upon the Princess he loved

And the second by her eyes I mistook for mother

…I cried out to you for help and I do not know if I was heard

Or if they saw my face…

I awoke to his eyes looking into mine

I fear we had killed one another

I know now who I saw before and wish I could have known both of you

To love and adore you as I loved and adored my brother

Either by blunt force physical trauma, dispelling, or desaturating him of shadows by one of the myriad ways available between Koyomi and Mikage, he falls. Weakly warning you that the path ahead is Chaos unbound by flesh. Incubated by his body and ready to display it’s wrath. He is peacefully unconscious or dead from eons of strain from hosting. It doesn’t matter much, considering what is ahead at the end but its supposed to be a powerful moment.

The Outer Sphere of the Chaos storm has been gradually hardening over the course of the fight. Koyomi and Mikage making shallow dents in it before realizing one of her powers allow Mikage to go it alone.

“Don’t do this alone, you don’t have too!” says Koyomi. Probably argument back and forth.

Ceiling explodes in five burning lights. Asteroid Senshi being led by Sailor Crystal Moon. USA-neechan!? She’s leading with a blazing sword of some kind. “SAILOR METEOR SWORD CRASH!”

Cutting into the Chaos storm, opening a pathway.

“GO! We’ll hold the door!”

Eclipse & Sailor New Moon advance down the long pathway of light.

Into the yawning void of Chaos.

You are fighting the darkness all around, it sees you both as potential vessels. It desires to be Sailor Chaos. It tries capitalizing on whatever you shadow score currently is unless you’ve fully purified yourself. But

Sailor Sol Unconquered rockets down the pathway surrounded in blazing light and space speed flight. Full destructive power! Batted away and held against the wall.

“This vessel has had it’s chance and is no longer suitable” roars chaos as it again bears down on Mikage trying to possess her.

“Eclipse Power! Make Up!” here and now, because you need to be, you are the Eclipsed Moon; and it burns out your shadow corruptions and finishes healing the golden crystal. Flute in hand.

Sailor Eclipsed Moon.

Breaking Sailor Sol free, the three of you struggle to land solid hits on Chaos. It’s too dispersed, you need a solid target! Its like fighting smoke and shadows even with all the light and glitter you can muster.

Pulling Koyomi back from Princess Sailor Moon Mode the two of you together bear the Silver and Golden Crystals in Princess Dress mode. Raising them high and asking Keiko to give you all the light she can.

Keiko goes brilliant nova, her transformation breaking as the light shines and channeled through your crystals sweeps away the darkness leaving a less enveloping form of Chaos atop the shattered palace.

The gowns break back into your regular battered and resource spent sailor forms. Chaos still has power as it looms for the final desperate charge. Once more it’s like fighting smoke its so hard to hit and your resources are so fucking low at this point more than likely.

A blow that would likely kill you or Koyomi is thrown, and with a “Buuu!” Kalyke throws herself seemingly from nowhere between the blow by Chaos and boom.

There stands a resplendent Sailor Chaos.

She laughs. A near perfect vessel for her purposes to revel in her power. The outline of her bones glow within the dark body, those bones you purified from calcified chaos to pure crystal. Its not in control?! Feet one at a time stamp the ground so hard they’re in the ground preventing her from moving. Arms spread wide. WHAT IS THIS, WHAT IS THIS?!

It’s a good imouto giving you a target you can hit and purify; one last time. Final burst, Princess Gowns again achieved. These fists glow with love and kindness. Koyomi and Mikage hit Sailor Chaos so hard that baby Kalyke drops from where she stood and lands in an adorable toddler gymnastic T as Chaos collapses in on itself and explodes in a wave of Light Love and Justice that spreads the world over refracting off the Senshi’s space shield as the skybeam towers fade.

Mikage and Koyomi are going over the edge of the platform from the momentum of the punch as the palace sinks toward open water of Tokyo Bay. They are caught from going over the edge by four pairs of arms.

Jadeite. Nephrite, Zoisite, Kunzite. The Four Heavenly Kings live.

At a random shallow park lake in midtown, a coughing and sputtering Kalunite sits up in the water. Amazonite falls off of Koyomi’s desk at the Chiba household. Hematite crawls from some wreckage confused. Elysions turn back from stone. Hiddenite coughs out ash as he sits up. Anyone who outright died in the invasion arc is okay. Parts of the city are putting themselves back together. Sophia lifts her arm from the sling. From the remnants of Borealis’s lab where the Quartzite stone sits, a very confused Gurio Umino stands and covers himself with a discarded labcoat.

As the rest of the young Senshi and Knights begin catching up and converging on the platform, it splashing down in the bay, Koyomi laughs. Boats and helicopters are heading to the crashed palace. Mikage joins Koyomi in laughing. Kalyke laughs. Everyone is happy under glowing moonlight as the Eclipse has passed.

“Happy birthday, nee-san,” Koyomi offer’s Mikage amid the end of ruin.

You are Mikage Chiba, a second year high school student, sixteen years old. You are the third woman to be the magical guardian of love & justice Sailor Moon, after your mother and older sister, and that’s okay. You just helped your little sister, with the help of all your friends and family, save the world.

Credits interspersed with…

Umino wandering confused, finding Captain Osaka and she runs at him in disbelief.

Sailor Moms back to earth and reuniting with everyone. Mom hugs.

Midori’s dad, being helped by Keiko, wheeling in a new fridge to the small apartment while Midori unfolds increasingly ridiculously unfolding paper instructions.

The Jupiter Cafe in full service, Kanari running out the door fastening her helmet with a delivery backpack while Koito serves coffee, parents behind the counter.

Keiko, Midori, Kairi, Saori, and Koyomi walking through the halls of the school passing where Yoshi & Endo play in a music room alongside a pair of Infinity Academy Students. Aiha, Koyomi, Kanari, Koito, and Ranko walk by them as well now in high school uniforms and greet the girls as they pass.

Admittedly I was kind of hoping Mikage would go Sailor Earth, and I am sure that could have been a vote possibility. One thing I loved about this Quest was that it took the lack of Sailor Earth in the original anime and kind of made it a plot point so Mikage going that route could have still been good and a way to show her taking up the mantle of magical girl again while moving on from her past too. Just a thought.

Eh, I think it was fine as is. It makes sense that enemy action would come to a head in preparation for the eclipse, and Mikage didn’t really need to train back up, just knock the rust off of her skills.

Epilogue

The winds were as still as the water, save for the wake of the vessel. It had been rumored that this was a common feature of this route since the ice field had melted. Though it was cold, it was no longer cold enough to maintain the fields and glaciers that once flowed here. In fact it had been hours since they left the last of the ice they did have to break through beyond the horizon.

Kouki Hakumei breathed out into the sleeve of her mittens to seal in some extra warmth all the same. While the still waters here weren’t freezing, her fingers felt like they were as she stood on the deck of the unhurried vessel she and many others were traveling aboard.

The Shirase was an Icebreaker ship, it had previously been in service to the Japanese Coast Guard until it was sold to Weathernews, based out of Chiba Prefecture, in 2008. From there it eventually changed hands again in 2018 to its current owners and operators, The Tomoe Group. That group was additionally the operators of the place she had spent her first year as a University Student, The Infinity Academy.

Though she had joined the school for their STEM track, she remained undeclared in her Major as of yet…though she had declared a Minor field of study. Only a few schools were even offering it seriously, but the Tomoe Group had been at the forefront of modern Paranormal Studies, both theoretical and applied. After her experiences during the events collectively referred to as the Shadowfall she had found interest and talent.

A talent that had been doing well enough, it would seem, that she was offered a dedicated semester of scholarship & study at what the University’s director, Professor Hotaru Tomoe, had described as an experimental satellite campus…

In international waters.

Within the Arctic Circle.

As she looked over the still waters, she wondered if what she was feeling was regret or frustration. It was an opportunity, and she knew she’d be seeing an old friend here, but she was also leaving some friends behind to be so far away. And it’s not like she came alone. Something she was reminded of as the mechanism for the door back inside the ship loudly wrenched open behind her.

“Hakumei-san,” the voice of one of her roommates called from the heavy metal door swung slowly, “What are you doing out here alone?”

Azusa Mugen was a reserved girl, she’d been part of Infinity Academy’s High School program before matriculating up into the University. Like Kouki she and a few other students in her year were given this opportunity. Kouki considered her a good roommate so far, both back at the Dormitory and on the boat in her calm reservations, which is a bit more than she could say for her other two roommates, who both filed out of the open door behind the normally quiet girl.

“It’s freezing,” complained Momoko Nakajima in a near yell, the pink haired and polite but brash competitive Kendo Champion as she fumbled with popping the interior lining of some chemical reaction heating packs before shoving them into her gloves, “And kind of creepy, you definitely shouldn’t be out here alone,”

Nakajima-san was a nice enough person by Kouki’s standards…just a bit of a hurricane to share space with. She had liked socializing and studying with her, but she had a habit of gremlin piling her clothes in her spaces of the room in ways that defied physics as the girl understood them. And just like her last roommate, despite their shared high visibility hair, she had a habit of being quiet until she wasn’t and surprising or scaring her at inopportune moments when their stealth was inevitably broken.

And speaking of quiet until they weren’t, her fourth roommate stood there tightening the pulls of her parka’s fur lined hood to completely ensnare her face, muffling whatever it was she was saying, which Kouki could imagine was in agreement with Nakajima.

Letting the questions and observations hang in the air for a bit, she sighs before answering the girls.

“I just wanted to see it when we started to get close,” Kouki’s expression was uncertain, “Like, I know I agreed and got on this boat…but it still doesn’t seem entirely real, doesn’t it,”

On the horizon there is a sparkling in the sinking light of the day. It grows into a crisscross of facets and structure. Not ice, but crystal. A growing crystal anchorage suspended between five repurposed and retrofitted Oil Rigs. This isn’t the satellite campus, but where the satellite campus is being developed alongside the rest of this unnamed wonder. Supposedly taking advantage of an existing undersea superstructure on top of an intersection of magical ley lines to magically grow a subcontinental island to house an Arctic City and the first official planetside Spaceport. A project orchestrated and coordinated with world renowned architect and urban planner Palla Pallas.

It's magnificent to watch, she considers, as other voices of wonder join the deck as more people come up to observe the approach. There are at least one hundred of you assembling by the time you approach the ship docks extending from the near to sea level base level of the southernmost Rig; which itself feels more like a burgeoning dockside market once the lot of you cross the covered gangplank into the interior.

Compared to the silent sea beyond it is abuzz with activity; as you and so many others disembarking have to doff and pack jackets and other layers away due to the sudden temperature shift. Familiar advertisement banners and bus sized screens play overhead as local industry already tries to vie for the attention of new arrivals with barkers and opportunities. fourth roommate practically explodes out of her hood with excitement, as lighter but longer and more voluminous pink tresses and tails gasp for freedom, and it is that moment that Kouki wonders why Mikage Chiba seems so much more excited to see this place compared to everyone else’s complete enchantment with the place.

One of the Student Advisors reminds everyone to assemble at the promenade three levels up in an hour for the arrival seminar. And all of these young men and women have their run of the place until then. Kouki wonders if this place will be all that different from home, as the familiar face of her best friend’s discovery appears on one of the screens with a half lidded aloof if beautiful gaze advertising either a perfume or prominent eye shadow…she wasn’t paying close enough attention to know which.

“She really did it,” Mikage Chiba says in wonder as she seems unfocused and trying to take the place in, “I’ll catch up with everyone later! I gotta see some people who’re waiting for me,”

“There she goes,” Nakajima-san shakes her head, “I swear the past two days she was going to vibrate through the bulkhead if we didn’t keep an eye on her,”

Mikage Chiba breaks away from the group, the first of many to do so. And with her duffle bag over her shoulder she navigates the tough confines of this old feeling but literally brand new dockside town. Finding the bar signage she was looking for, she burst through the short hanging curtain in excitement, zeroeing in on her targets, and leapt into a pounce.

Midori Mori and Naru Osaka sat at the bar and were reminiscing and catching up about the past few years over some ordered sake, recounting their collegiate lives or travels. They’d ordered more cups than currently were people as they expected additional arrivals to filter in over the course of today…though expectation had prepared neither of them for the twin tailed pink missile that was screaming in laughter as she impacted and threw arms around both of them from behind.

Hugs returned and joyous laughter shared, friends began reuniting in the shadow of a changed and shining tomorrow.

Aside from catching up with old friends, after all the years where she only knew of Crystal Tokyo through Chibi-Usa maybe she’s happy to see this happening in her own time. And now I’m remembering that Season 2 idea that got talked about where Mikage and co. would visit Crystal Tokyo.

This wasn’t meant to be Crystal Tokyo; this was Palla’s attempt to make good on a promise to herself she shared with Mikage the day in quest she got drunk. Its it’s own location built above the ruins of D-Point.

I’ve written up some final thoughts to post in thread once we get some way into page 10. In writing up said thoughts, I find I’ve gotten emotional. Perhaps sappy as well, but I’m sure Mikage would approve of saying how you really feel even if some people might think you’re overdoing it.

I would have imagined Mikage as representing the time the earth sits in the shadow of the moon, and Koyomi as representing the time the moon sits in the shadow of the earth. Either way, since their father has the Golden Crystal and their mother has the Silver Crystal, it’s fitting that Mikage and Koyomi would be Senshi that represent the connection between the earth and the moon.

I regret how I scattergun aimed the Hotaru stuff as it was in my head versus execution. Should have done something a bit different.

Would have liked the energy and time to do more slice of life and maybe have more monsters of the week without diving into over minutia of the day to day.

Wish I had more rigidly set the progression of my pathfinder hack or had instead used the Guardians of Order sailor moon rpg I actually owned a copy of as my base.

Wish I actually did followthrough with crossover stuff for Crisis on Infinite Quests that fell through because my first marriage was falling apart.

Kind of wanted to explore more of Midori’s family relationship. Gotten to give Daigo and Teal their full arc.

Deeply amused by the decision early on to keep the darkness. Wish I hadn’t relied on the idiot ball in the early plot to justify Mikage’s isolation. The DID system ane was on a whim that maybe I didn’t need to lean into. I wish I was more prepared for Eclipse as a narrative device for Mikage to use. That’s just off the top of my head.

It felt like it worked out all right. As an aside, given what her family’s like I wonder if fighting the monster of the week counts as slice of life to Mikage.

If we’d managed to get the Sanctum mythic path ability, I wonder what it would have looked like inside. A grand palace where the Princess of the Earth and Moon holds court? Crisis was a big to do about forgotten or un-ended quest's villains trying to get their happy ending at the cost of all there was and the death of multiple worlds. Bit of Kingdom Hearts thrown in. Peter was to be a participant in the story but also be a sought after "Princess of Heart" for the giant Orihalcum circuit that filled the role of a repurposed cosmic tuning fork.

A planned gag was that the Anon character in the overarch as things came together was going to have their Nix Uotan (final crisis) moment after someone in thread figured out some clues and posted the two syllables that would beget thunder (For Free) and turn anon into a Mod to turn the tide against the villains.

Mikage telling that one Spider Possessed guy during the spider possession arc that he wasn't the messenger of hell was both a callback to Tokusatsu Spider-man for us and for her a reference to her meeting Peter and respecting him.

I was the one posting cryptic ass things under a tripcode I no longer remember in hypercrisis or multiversity threads on /co/ at the time and in some of the quests that were crossing over. Trying to set up a metanarrative and breadcrumbs people could actually find for certain clues.

Sounds like there’d be some Exalted in there as well. And now I’m imagining Mikage shifting into her Miki persona and meeting Maka of Exalted Quest. Probably ends with Mikage getting to take one of Maka’s outfits home with her, and then keeping it in the closet because she could never actually wear it in public.

It's more I'm adapting the Quest as if it was an anime. Part 1 of season 1 is from Koyomi's perspective for the most part, though does branch out at times. After a movie (The Tower of Babel) covering the events of Tokyo Tower, we then go back and see those events from Mikage's perspective. Admittedly I have fallen way behind on working on it.

I don’t remember when I first found Eclipsed Moon Quest, but I know I was here for a lot of it, and it’s always been one of my favorite stories. For the past few years, every so often I’d pull up the catalog of /qst/ and search “moon que” to see if this quest had had another thread posted that I hadn’t seen. Funnily enough, I saw this thread without having to do that. I’m sad to see this quest come to an end, but I’m glad we got a proper ending, and it’s good to know life has been treating Artemis better. I hope that his muse will start to flow more freely in good times, and, unlikely though it may be, I also hope that one day we’ll get to visit Mikage and her friends once again. Whatever the future may hold though, for now I simply wish to say thank you.

Thank you to my fellow players, named and anonymous alike. Whether it was reacting to whatever had just been revealed, deciding how best to approach a situation, theorizing what was going on, throwing around ideas about what skills and abilities to give Mikage, or something else, it was fun doing it with all of you.

Thank you to Artemis for writing this quest. As I’m sure you’ve gathered from this post, Eclipsed Moon Quest has been special to me in a way few stories are. Before I found it, I hadn’t thought much about Sailor Moon, but the story drew me in just the same and eventually inspired me to watch the original series, and given all the other Sailor Moon stories and quests I’ve read since then it’s safe to say I’m a fan.

And of course, thank you to Mikage, for letting us join you on your journey. In the name of the Moon, we salute you.

Goodbye. Let’s see each other again someday. I’m thankful for the time here and was full glad to be able to use this time I had to bring closure to this project.

It's okay to take a break, and sometimes things you really love you either lose your ability to keep up with or the inspiration or will to do.

While it's important to try and finish the things you start, what's most important is your health and if you're having fun. Don't pressure yourself into something you can't do, and be aware of yourself, your health, and your needs.
