Bitter.

Bitter tea was your father’s preferred drink of choice but you were so engrossed in your surroundings that the taste of your drink was a mere afterthought. How long has it been since you were truly home? On the surface you could say that it was nearly 3 years since you had escaped prison, defeated the 5, the Dragon Warrior and…and nearly murdered your father once more. Nearly 3 years of traveling, fighting, and discovery. But you could not really call that returning home. In its own morbid way, it was merely a visit. The last time you sat down and merely…lived was decades ago. Long before you were sent to prison. You take another sip of your drink. Were the walls always so dull? You felt like you remembered the paint being brighter and did the sun always come in so brightly from the northern part of the room?

So engrossed in your own thoughts that you almost didn’t hear Ming speak up. “And that’s why we’ve traveled all the way here Master Shifu. We- I feel like the Valley of Peace is the safest place for the people of the Library to relocate. Not only is it the home of the Five but the area is similar to that of the Sacred Library’s location. It’ll help with the refugee’s peace of mind knowing they’ll be living in familiar surroundings. Not to mention, being so secluded means they can take their time to adjust and integrate with the rest of the country. None of the citizens have ever left their homes before and the rest of China is as much a mystery to them as their home was to the average citizen.” Your father does not reply immediately and you cast your gaze upon the rest of the table.

Ming sat between the rest of the Brotherhood, a group of highly ranked members of the Sacred Library’s old order that served as an in-between for the rest of the city and the library’s previous enigmatic leader. She was already much taller than an average cat but her emaciated physique seemed to make her stand taller than her companions and only added the mystique surrounding her as she hid her face under the gilded hood of her robes. You and Xin Lan had done your best in the past 4 months to find enough food to feed the city and try to undo the damage she had done to herself but the constant moving had made it difficult. Ming assured you that she would regain the weight with enough time but the delicate balance of nutrition and calories she maintained had to be undone slowly lest she go into shock.
>>
The members of the Brotherhood simply sat in a mixture of reverence and deference next to Ming as if awaiting an order. Though they were accustomed to working with the city’s old mayor and the various other members of office, none of their power remained here in the mainland and combined with their unfamiliarity of negotiating with strangers they could do nothing but allow their leader to do the talking for them.

Tigress sat beside your father. She had swapped to a change of clothes replacing her tattered red shirt and pants for a clean set of black clothing with white embroidery. You weren’t sure you liked that change. Despite the obvious darkness it cast on her, you felt it served as a reminder of the darkness she was holding within her. It was as if fate itself was sneering in your face as you see her walk the same dark path you crossed when you were younger.

Master Shifu, your father, remains silent and takes another sip of his tea. It was not a dismissive motion but rather one born of habit has he organized his thoughts. It was clear that this decision weighed heavily on his mind. Deciding the fate of an entire city’s worth of citizens was something that could not be made lightly. Even now, the emergency stores of food were being emptied to help feed them as they lived in a cordoned off area at the base of the mountain. “The Jade Palace and the Valley have always been open to helping those in need be it food, medicine, or clothing. However, never in its history has it ever come across something like this. It is quite unprecedented.”

Ming bows her here slightly. “I apologize Master Shifu but I’m afraid there was not much we could do in terms of giving you forewarning. Simply arriving here has already taxed us as it is. My people are tired and afraid. Words cannot describe the gratitude we feel for simply allowing us to reside here and have something to eat but I’m afraid I don’t know where we would go from here if we cannot stay.”

Shifu gives Ming a knowing nod. “Thankfully, I was given some time to prepare thanks to Tai Lung.” The words hang in the air as if something strange had been said. It seemed like the Palace only served to amplify your presence here, almost attempting to reject it. “He mentioned your plan was to bring the survivors here after he delivered the news in the Forbidden Palace. Even now, her majesty the Empress will be delivering another shipment of supplies to assist the refugees. However, we had not anticipated so many survivors.”
>>
You can almost see the smile on Ming’s face as she speaks up. “We have Tai Lung to thank for that as well. He was instrumental in the city’s salvation when we ran into some…trouble during our travels. Had he not arrived none of us may have been alive to tell the tale and China would have lost more than simple books and tomes as old as they may have been.” She picks up her cup to drink. “I think it’s safe to say that he inspires as much hope in my people as I do…maybe even more. To speak frankly, he’s a hero and if I’m afraid any titles I could bestow upon him would mean nothing compared to all he has done for us.” She says serenely before draining her cup.

Shifu seems to be taken aback at this and he struggles to maintain his normal, stoic demeanor. His eyes seem to be a mixture of feelings, ones that you can’t seem to make out but you can only imagine. Pain, maybe pride? You have no doubt that the words he is hearing are conflicting with decades of being told and even enforcing the opposite. “I…I am proud.” He says quietly. You think Shifu attempts to clear his throat but all that you hear is a vague inhalation. Perhaps now was the time to speak up rather than let the conversation die down.

>What do you say?
>Say that the Valley should build homes for the refugees. There are plenty of people willing to work. All they need is a task and tools. From chefs to artisans. The Library had it all.
>Say that the Library has more to offer the valley than just material goods. Generation upon generation of knowledge, innovation, and study that had been cultivated and stored in the Library now lives on in its people. That kind of wealth cannot be measured in any lifetime.
>Offer to go back to the capital once more. Perhaps the Empress can find a location for the survivors now that they are all accounted for. In the meantime, they can live here safely. It’s not a real solution but at least it’s something.

>The palace has more to offer than merely Material goods, though they have those as well. There are generations of knowledge, farming and agriculture. In two years the fruits will already begin showing, in five they will live plentifully.

"Father," You begin causing Tigress's nose to wrinkle slightly, her ears to flatten, and her eyes to squint in a subtle glare. Doing your best to try and avoid her gaze, you continue. "The people of the Library have more than just material goods to offer. Although products from the library itself were always in great demand and by taking them in you would have a monopoly on their creation and export, there is something more valuable here they can offer. The people of the Library have something far greater to offer the valley. Knowledge. Generation upon generation of knowledge that was stored there, advancements of farming and agriculture, and the cultivation of living with limited space. In a year or so, the Valley will be reaping the benefits and a few years after the Valley of Peace could be the most prosperous place in the country."

"Forgive me for speaking out of turn." Dawa speaks up. "But Tai Lung is correct. Our people have dedicated their lives the preservation of knowledge and the advancement of our people's way of living. Joining the highest ranks of our order always came with the requirement of discovering something tangible that would benefit the city as a whole. Even the average citizen was raised to make the most of limited resources despite our prosperity. If you allow us, we can find ways to make your farms more efficient, how to sow better crops, or even increase the quality of the Valley's goods. We have plenty of men and women who are skilled craftsmen who are willing to work as well even if it is for a simple meal."

Shifu raises a hand for a moment of silence as he thinks for a moment. "I understand that your people have much to offer. Even if it was just the knowledge to increase everyone's quality of life that would be more than enough for me. The secrets of the Sacred Library, even the Library itself, is something a myth to most people. Just by you simply existing here have you essentially brought many childhood stories to life to the people of this valley. Setting aside the immediate concern for food and supplies. I worry about the differences in customs. There are many here who would not see your attempts to improve their lives as such. Such drastic changes would invariably be seen as an attack on their way of life even an attempt to erase many of their family's traditions."
>>
Ming raises a thin hand to her chin causing her sleeve to roll back slightly and reveal a bit of the raw jade armor that clung to her skin. "Master Shifu is right. I understand you mean well Tai Lung, but the Sacred Library's knowledge can't simply be spread out so easily. The people of the Library and the Valley have lead very different lives. We were somewhat spared the shock of a different culture due to the fact we traveled lightly and ate lightly. Mostly due to our groups...unique upbringing. However, if we were to tell an average citizen of China that they are eating too much or that the a family's traditional way of sowing crops is wrong then it would only cause friction between the two groups. Even if my people were given their own land to tend to their own, if they were suddenly more prosperous then the native people of the Valley that would also draw unwanted anger. I hate to say it but what happened at The Warren might happen here if strangers suddenly started threatening the local economy."

"Then is there nothing they can do? All those years of learning and studying. They just have to keep them quiet?" You ask.

"No. I'm sure my predecessor had someway to spread what his people learned to the rest of China. I understand wanting to put everything the Library has learned and push the Valley of Peace forward but I think I understand why Sangpo did it." Ming replies.

"What do you mean?"

"Imagine this. Would you have Xin Lan teach everyone how to break and opponent's body the way they do? They are the most effective and efficient fighter you know. Or maybe would you teach everyone how to use Dragon Style?" Ming asks back. You shake your head.

You give Ming a confused look. "No. I wouldn't but I don't see how those two are connected. Not everyone needs to know how to fight but being able to feed everyone seems like the best choice. Even if they don't like the change." Shifu nods, having seemingly caught on to her metaphor.
>>
"It's not a matter of it being better for them but if they understand the weight of that information. We don't teach people how to wield a weapon until they grow to understand the weight of being able to take a life even if it would be the most effective way to end, say, an argument. The secrets of the Library have all been cultivated for the people of the Library. People who know the weight of the knowledge, know how to use their resources sparingly." He explains.

"But now the people have nearly unlimited land to grow using their techniques. Techniques meant to bring out the biggest and best crops. How can the average person compete with that being stuck to their traditions? And even if they were willing to learn, if all were willing to learn, what would we do with so much food? What about the merchants who make a living selling crops who now suddenly find that their wares are worth less because of an over abundance?" Ming continues. "Not only that but the Valley would start attracting a lot of attention if it suddenly became very prosperous. Our goal has always been to keep a low profile until whatever threatens China has been stopped. It won't do if we attract that danger here as well." She sighs and crosses her arms. "This is may be more difficult than I imagined."

>What do you say?
>Agree with the group but say it doesn't matter. The people of the Library are hardworking and they're willing to put in the work even if it means using other techniques.
>Say that if the refugees can't work as farmers then they can at least work as artisans and crafters. The people can provide materials and the refugees can make them into goods. If not for selling then at least for the people living here. Working together could help both groups acclimate to each other.
>Ask if there is a somewhere more secluded nearby where the people of the Library can build their own town. If the world is not ready for their knowledge then at the very least they can continue to live the way they used to while continuing to disseminate it at their own pace.

Looks like we're back to ties. Either we suggest that the refugees live alongside the people of the Valley or ask if there is some land their can claim as their to restart anew.
>>

Of course.

I'll change to support >>5899473, though I'm aware that using them for skilled labour is still going to invoke the same issues as stated.
But hey, they are also free hands to do stuff with.
>>
"Then it seems like the best solution is that the people of the Library work as laborers. Craftsman and the like." You suggest once more. "Though they can't use the full extent of their knowledge and they might have to learn the methods of the people. It could allow both groups to acclimate to one another. In time perhaps both cultures will work well enough that such knowledge can be used more freely. As for now, I suppose there is no safer place than the Jade Palace to store what teachings survived from the library for future generations. I'm afraid that's the extent of my suggestions though. Knowing when or how to spread that knowledge is beyond me."

"It's not the best solution but it may well be the best one we have." Shifu admits. "There is still the problem of housing. We can't have them living in makeshift camps forever."

"If it is possible, with a guide we can survey the city and nearby area for a suitable place to relocate our people. It would be an extension of Valley's city." Dawa offers. "However, as we've discussed. All we have is labor for which to pay with for the materials."

"Master Tigress would be happy to serve as your guide." Shifu says, motioning to Tigress. "She knows the land as well as anyone here and you are already accustomed to working with her."

"What about Tai Lung?" Tigress speaks up though perhaps too quickly than she wanted. Withering slightly under everyone's confused stares, she composes herself. "The Valley is still uncomfortable with him around. It wouldn't be wise to simply leave him unsupervised. It would cause a panic." Everyone at the table shifts rather uncomfortably at that. It had taken at least a week of negotiations between Ming, your father, Tigress and the people of the Valley that your arrival with a large number of people was, in fact, not an attempt at destroying the Valley for a third time with an army you had raised. You wouldn't have been surprised if it was merely the fact that Tigress and Ming had arrived at the Valley first that managed to convince them to not start sending messengers to the nearby cities and towns that Tai Lung had returned.
>>
Coughing slightly you nod, "She is right, father. Perhaps it would be best if I stayed at the Palace for a few more days while you let the news spread out that I am here on peaceful terms. Though..." You scratch the back of your sheepishly. "I did make a few promises of taking some of the children out to eat...and perhaps to see the Jade Palace." Shifu gives you a dumbfounded look. "They had lost their families and time were dark for them." You explain. "I wanted to give them something to be hopeful for and those were the only two places I really was familiar with."

Shifu sighs and pinches his brow. You could sense the familiar feeling of a lecture brewing but instead he simply says, "Just the open training grounds. The Palace is not a place for children. As for eating out...we will discuss that at a later time."

"R-right..."

"It seems like we have at least come to a consensus over the immediate future." Ming says with a small clap of her hands. "For now, the brotherhood will conduct a survey of the area. Once we have that completed, we can begin to move the refugees and spread the details of the settlement around. Words cannot describe how thankful we are for giving us a chance to start anew."

"Yes, with such a darkness looming over us all it is in times like these were we must come together as one to tide through. Both our people have lost our homes at one point. We must make sure that such a thing does not happen again." Shifu agrees as you all stand up. "If you excuse me, I must send word to the Capital that you have arrived. Perhaps Her Majesty may divine another way forward if not send more supplies."

"Thank you Master Shifu. I hope she can find some way to assist us in building homes as well." Ming motions to you. "If you don't mind, however, I would like to ask Tai Lung to show me around his home. I'll be sure to ask him to keep me away from the areas not safe for children." She teases lightly. Shifu clears his throat and does his best to look professional. "By all means. I'm sure the layout will remain familiar to him. Not much has changed since...well not much has changed." You give your father a small nod and motion for Ming to follow you as everyone begins to depart for their assigned duties. The moment the two of you are alone and out of earshot Ming grabs your wrist and pulls you through a nearby door. Lucky for the two of you it was merely a closet as Ming wraps her arms around you and buries her face in your chest.

With a long, audible, stressed sigh, her whole body relaxes and her grip on your tightens. "I don't think I can do this any longer." She admits and you quietly return the hug. "Xin's right. Your chest is really nice and fluffy." She adds absentmindedly.
>>
"I think you're doing a far better job than you give yourself credit for." You chuckle softly. "If had been anyone else, I'm sure they would have run what was left of the Sacred Library into the ground." Ming lets out what sounds like a mixture between a groan and a laugh into your chest. You leave her to her thoughts for a few moments later before saying, "You know if anyone finds us like this then the scandals would never end." Ming simply responds by turning her head sideways and resting her cheek on your scar.

"Tai Lung..." She says softly choosing her words carefully. "I don't know if I can travel with you anymore." It takes a few moments for her words to fully process in your mind and then a few more seconds before you can think of what to say.

"What do you mean?" You ask almost stupidly. "I know you wouldn't just say something like that out of the blue."

"I guess I didn't think about it too much while I was alone and maybe I was just so happy to see you and Xin again but...the people of the Library are going to need someone to guide them. They don't know anything about the rest of the world. I tried thinking about letting the Brotherhood run things in my stead but I don't know if they can do it alone. Master Shifu already has to guide the Five and The Dragon Warrior as well as keep an eye on the rest of China so he can't spare much attention to two separate groups of people to govern. I just...who else but me? For the past...5 or 6 months all I could think of was just getting everyone here that I didn't really considered what would need to be done afterwards. It's not like we can simply abandon them here." Ming flicks her ear and presses it against the left side of your chest above your heart. "I miss just being a doctor...now I know Kung Fu..." She says almost childishly.
>>
You lean forward to lift Ming up into your arms and quietly stroke her behind the ears. "I promised I'd step down when we got here but...it just seems like every time it looks like we're in the clear something else pops up and forces me to stay. Like trying to put out a fire with only a tea cup. Is this what you feel like all the time?"

>What do you say?
>Tell Ming that if she truly wants to stay then she doesn't need to worry. Sometimes fate causes people to go in separate paths but she knows that you'll do everything in your power to make sure those paths cross again. Your little doctor has grown up to be a leader and you couldn't be prouder as painful as saying goodbye can be.
>Tell Ming that one day the people of the Library will need to learn how to live on their own. Try as she might, they too must make their own decisions and learn on their own. You can see now that in his own strange way, Sangpo has set them up to live independently without the need of some wise single leader. Now they will learn how to live among the rest of the nation they had separated themselves from all these years. Perhaps this is the safest place for them to do that.
>Tell Ming that she doesn't need to decide this now. There's still about 8 months left before your exile becomes official. She can take the time to finally relax and process everything. There's plenty of places you'd love to show her and Xin. There's no need to rush anything. What's most important is that whatever she decides to do you'll be proud of her and support her.

Can always relate this to the forest demon we just fought.
She said she could do it, and we played our part to the letter she asked. These are some of the most knowledgable people to ever live. Everyone plays their part.

If she genuinely thinks she will be better help teaching people to farm as opposed to ending the threat to the north, then so be it.

"My firefighting is on a much smaller scale Ming. Mostly trying to keep a certain bun out of trouble. Still, I think that you should still step down. You did your part and ran yourself ragged doing it." You say.

"Yeah but you do that all the time and never listen to me when I tell you to stop." Ming says as she pokes your cheek.

"Yes...I think this is one of those 'Do as I say not as I do' situations." You chuckle. "More importantly, the Brotherhood can take that weight off your shoulders. They're geniuses in their own rights and they, and the survivors, need to learn how to live on their own terms without the safety net of a wise ruler to turn to. Well needed to do that at some point in our lives. We all gave you that chance when you faced the monsters in the forest. I think it's time you give the people of the Library that chance too."

Ming nods quietly before slowly pulling away the hood to reveal her tired face. "You're right. I did all I could do and everyone is safe. I don't really have a reason to be here anymore..." She looks up at the ceiling. "I just...I'm so tired. Of hopelessness. Of loss...of losing people. We lost so much Tai Lung. There's so many people that should be here that...aren't." Ming rubs her eyes before simply covering her face. "Sometimes at night I dream of that day...the day I almost died." She says quietly. "Everything was so cold. I just can't...I couldn't let that happen to anyone. Not again."

"And now everyone is safe. You can let it all go. You don't need to carry this burden on your shoulders anymore." You say quietly. "The Valley of Peace is named that for a reason. Take the time to wind down and be at peace."

"I think I'd like that. I'm not sure I'm fit for all this leadership business." Ming admits.

"I think that you are but being a leader during a crisis isn't something anyone should be thrown into. The fact that you managed so well is a feat all on it's own." You reply.

"How will we break the news?" Ming asks. "When should we do it?"

>What do you say?
>Go out and do it right now. The sooner Ming does it the more time it gives for the people of the Library to adjust to it.
>Wait a while for the people to settle in to their new lives. No sense in putting more pressure on the refugees just as they're trying to rebuild their lives.

"Just tell the Brotherhood what you're going to do. Give them time to prepare. After everyone is settled you can tell them. No reason to give add to their worries just yet. Once they get back you can tell them but for now let's get out here before Xin finds us." You say immediately throwing the door open. "Right?" You ask as you eye the top of the empty doorway. A pair of long white ears peek out from the top of the door followed by their owner. An albino rabbit with ruby red eyes gives you and upset pout.

"You always know how to ruin everything fun." Xin Lan complains. "I was getting ready to catch you two in the act!" You give them a look and they drop down from their perch landing deftly on the ground before flipping forward on to their favorite spot on your shoulders. "What were you two talking about anyways?" They ask more out of politeness than curiosity. Given their upbringing, you knew better than to try and keep any secrets from them.

"I'm going to be stepping down from running the Library." Ming explains. "It's just hard given that problems just seem to keep cropping up."

"You could always let me run things. I'm a great leader! Isn't that right big guy?" Xin Lan asks as they pat the top of your head. "I mean I not only trained you, but I also ran a class and whenever I cover this guy's eyes he never gets lost."

"I'm pretty sure I left you with instructions on the first two and I spent a few weeks learning how to guide myself using all my other senses and my memories." You counter with a smirk and you step back out into the hallway with everyone. "Besides, I can only imagine what havoc you'd cause if you were ever given any amount of political power."

"I'm sure Gyaltso will be thrilled and would do everything in their power to help you be the best snow bun princess ever." Ming giggles as she helps herself down from you arms. Xin Lan crosses their arms and grumpily plants their chin on your head.

"You're just as bad as the big guy." They complain. Ming sticks her tongue.
>>
You scold the two lightly. "Alright, that's enough. You're disturbing the peace." You take a moment to look around the open hall of the Jade Palace and can't help but feel a pang of nostalgia mixed with melancholy. You were never one for lingering on your past, especially during your the years of your upbringing, but you can't help but yearn for a past where you grew up with Ming and the others. Perhaps learning together or just as you were, family. What would be different? You didn't know but you come to the realization that you'd give anything if it meant that the bunnies didn't grow in the environment they did. Then it hits you. You'd give anything to have grown up with friends like the ones you had now.

"Hey...you ok?" You hear Xin Lan ask, dropping their act. It appears that your emotions were clearly written on your face. You shake your head.

"Yeah...just thinking about things that could be. I guess I really am getting old." You assure them, amused.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Ming asks, concern still in her voice.

"There's not much to talk about. I just wonder what life would have been life if you guys had been around growing up." You say trying to sound nonchalant. "Maybe things would have been different."

"That does sound like fun...I bet Stripes would love to daydream about that." Xin Lan says.

"Like I said, it's nothing. I have you guys now and that's all that matters. I wouldn't trade these last 3 years for anything." You put an arm around Ming and pull her close. "And...I hope that the rest of my years are just enriched by the three of you." Xin Lan wraps their arms around your head and under your chin.

"Now you really sound old. How about we lay off the old talk before we all decide to just retire and play cards for the rest of our lives?" They say as they kiss the top of your head. "So, you gonna show us around or what?" Ming giggles and links her arms with you.

"Yeah. You gonna show us two ladies a good time?" She teases.

"Really? This is a good time for you?" Xin Lan asks sarcastically as you push open the doors to the training hall. "You know...actually I should have expected this." They conclude as you all step in making sure to not trigger one of the many, rather sharp looking, mechanisms that filled the hall.

"Well...Tai Lung does always say that training took up majority of his life. So it's only natural that we'd come here first. I just didn't expect it to be so...spikey." Ming says trying to remain polite. You can't help but let out a laugh. Sure it was a pretty bad joke but you couldn't help but enjoy your friends' confusion. After these last few months, you think you've all earned some levity. Xin Lan and Ming turn to look at you.

"Sorry. I couldn't help but go for the obvious choice." You say chuckling. "Though I also don't remember things being quite so sharp either."

"Are you telling me the great Tai Lung didn't eat fire and sleep on a bed of spears like me?" Xin Lan asks with a grin before smacking you in the back of the head playfully.

"No. I mean we had some of the studded training dummies but they certainly didn't have claws." You admit as you let your memories guide you through the hall. "Definitely didn't have the ceiling blades or the fire."

"Are those arrows?" Ming asks and clings slightly more tightly on to your arm.

"Man, The Five really are a whole breed unto themselves huh?" Xin Lan asks while ducking under a hanging log. "I'm almost afraid to say they worked out to some of my warm up exercises."

"This is a warm up for you?!" Ming asks incredulously.

"I mean if make everything slightly sharper and have them intentionally aim for your vital bits then yeah. Why are we here exactly?" Xin Lan asks quickly changing the subject away from their upbringing.

"Honestly, it was just for the joke but now I'm wondering how much changed..." You admit though you know exactly the answer to that. You happened. All these instruments and tools were set in place to get ready for you.

"It does go to show how strong you are." Xin Lan points out as if reading your mind. "If this is what The Five needed to go through and they still lost to you. That's why you're our big guy." They say with a shrug and pet your head.

"Xin!" Ming hisses. "Not the time."
>>
"Xin's right though. All this was put in place because of me." You spin one of the spiked dummies around. "And it's probably a reminder for Tigress's anger." You shake your head. "This joke's gone a bit sour. How about we leave and go somewhere else?"

"Can we get something to eat? I'd like to have something a bit more filling than what we have on the road." It takes a moment for you and Xin Lan to register the question before turning to face a blushing Ming as she scratches her cheek. "Well...it really has been quite a while. I think it's been the longest we've ever been on the road before. At least before hitting a town or village to rest." She adds.

"I mean...if that's what the lady wants." Xin Lan says with a cheeky grin. "Of course there is also that noodle place you mentioned. What do you say? It's been a while since Ming and I snuck into town to grab you a meal."

>What do you do?
>Take Ming and Xin to the temple kitchen. It's small but it'll get the job done. Besides, some of your group's best meals were made in a small kitchen.
>Send Ming and Xin into town to grab some food but have them avoid the noodle place. You kind of want to go with everyone once things are cleared and you want to take the kids there too.

"Alright. You two go on and have your fun. Just avoid the noodle shops. I don't want to tell the kids that I went to eat there without them." You say, shaking your head in amusement. "I might need to figure out what exactly we're going to do with them. I doubt they'll be content with just exploring a small shop."

"We? No, no. You're going to do it. I'll only be around for the food." Xin Lan says and holds out their hand. You eye it expectantly and wait for something to happen. When it seems like they don't get the results they want, Xin Lan shakes their hand a bit. "Money please. Pretty sure this is the one place I'm really not allowed to steal from." You frown and begin to dig into your bags for a bit. "Well I don't have any cash. I stole everything after we left the Library. Even my clothes."

"Sorry, I don't really have any money either. We spent what little we had when we were still near towns for our starting supplies." Ming apologizes.

"It's fine. Just make sure you get the extra meat buns." You say as you pull free a small pouch of coins you managed to keep hold even after everything. Xin Lan swipes the coins from your hand and it immediately vanishes from sight.

"Thanks. Come on Ming. Let's go find all the sweet things." They say taking her by the hand and dragging her along. Ming gives you a quick wave goodbye before the two vanish behind the Palace's gates.

"You know there's only enough to buy us a meal!" You call out to them. Stretching out, you let yourself wander around the halls. With nothing in mind, you let your memories guide you and see where your legs take you.

You find yourself wandering the familiar halls with nowhere in particular in mind. Age had seemingly forgotten this place or perhaps it had merely adopted whatever power Oogway had over time as everything still seemed just the same as you remembered it growing up. The paint remained unfaded, the stones just as flat and polished as ever. Even the wood bore no splinters or cracks. You move up a few steps, then down some more, turning corners and doubling back as you just relive a memory here and there. Breaking your first board, learning to maintain your balance on poles, hiding from your father when you didn't want to go to bed.

Eventually your footsteps grow heavy and your memories fall heavy on your shoulders. You find yourself wandering the long corridor of The Hall of Heroes. Despite it's pristine condition, it is here that time seemed to bear it's full power. Effigies and ancient weapons of past heroes are on full display, a testament that despite one's power time would hold still for no one. Or perhaps recent events had stained your interpretations. You continue onwards, a familiar sword with a jade dragon catching your eye but only for a moment. In truth, you were having trouble seeing beyond the flashes of memories. The rubble and fire. Ruined pillars and broken rock. Not once in your lifetime but twice. And in both those times your father lay on the floor half dead. And in both of those times still, it was all your fault.

As you stand before The Moon Pool, this accursed body of water that filled your head with thoughts of grandeur, fed your ego and stoked the fires of whatever it was that drove you to madness, it's only now that you see the large statue of an ancient turtle standing tall above you from behind the waters. Even now you find yourself kneeling at the feet of the Oogway looking for guidance. You were long passed all this and yet the memories still hurt. You close your eyes and try to meditate. You had reconciled with your father and were at peace with who you were. So you had to be able to let this go as well.
>>
As you concentrate, you can hear a familiar hum of someone getting their voice ready before speaking in a soft tone. "It's not often we get visitors from one of our best students. I would think Shifu would want to throw a small celebration." Oogway says. You open your eyes to find the old master standing standing before you. Light seems to pour not only from him but through him.

"Master Oogway...I thought you were still in the other world. I thought you couldn't come back." You breathe. Oogway gives you his trademark smile.

"Who is to say it's really me? I could be a memory you made up to help you. Then again, aren't we all just a collection of memories?" He says whimsically before moving to stand next to you. He makes a small motion as if asking for permission to sit which you eagerly nod. "I may not have adopted you officially but I helped raise you just as much as Shifu did." He says a bit heavily as it seemed like strain of sitting down was getting to him. You wonder if its even possible for this to be the real Oogway. You don't ever recall him struggling to do anything despite his slow methodical nature. "So I think I have the requirements to help you with what your struggling with. And if I'm just simply a memory well...its always good to look back on the past for answers for the future." He concludes with a bigger smile.

You couldn't really argue with him there but you also couldn't help and wonder if this was some kind of test or effect of the pool. Could it be that The Moon Pool was connected to the Sacred Tears and it was helping you along? The Pools of Contemplation were meant to help in finding inner peace so it would only be natural the pools here had a similar effect. Or maybe Oogway had left some part of him behind to help masters of the Jade Palace to guide them. But then why-

Your thoughts are interrupted by another one of the old turtle's chuckles. "You always did tend to overthink things. Well at least where you weren't being too stubborn to change your mind." He says. "Go on. Just ask and let us see where our conversation takes us."

>What do you say?
>Ask Oogway if you should bring your friends along to the north. You could always use their companionship but you don't think you could bear the idea of throwing them into war or worse yet, loosing them to it.
>Ask Oogway for help on letting go. Not for you but for Tigress. She is heading down the same path you are and it seems like you can do nothing to stop her. Family or not, no one should relive your mistakes.
>Ask Oogway about what Xin once asked you. When do you decide to just...stop. How do you know when it's a good time to retire like he did.

Thanks anon. I'm glad your enjoying the posts. Sometimes I wonder if the music links were a bit much. Don't worry about the gang though. They're coming along. The option was just for a chance to have bit of a back and forth on the subject.
>>
You start to think for a moment before simply blurting something out and stopping the endless spiral of thoughts. "Tigress is still angry and I don't know why!" Your face burns as you listen to your childish outburst. Clearing your throat you clarify, "What I mean is that...I had hoped that time would allow her to contemplate and she would let go of her hate. Maybe not forgive me or even come to befriend me but she could move forward and happy life with those she's close to. Instead, she has held on to her hate and I fear that it will consume her like it did me. I don't want her to make the same mistake as me."

Oogway nods sympathetically. "Letting go is a powerful thing but it does not mean it is the final solution." He begins and thinks for a moment. "Life is like a rose bush. It can beautiful and grand but when one tries to pick it's many flowers to enjoy it's gift then one can feel the pain of life's thorns. Tell me, what does on normally do when they pluck a flower like this?"

"They would drop it or stop trying to pick it." You say and the old turtle nods once more before continuing.

"But sometimes a person truly wants that rose. So they hold on tighter, and pull harder. Eventually they come to accept that pain, and soon it becomes a comfort for them."

"Like an old glove..." You murmur.

"Yes. Now what if we ask that person to let go?" Oogway asks. You think for a moment.

"They...wouldn't. Holding on for so long...it's all they know like you said. They put all their effort to getting what they want and...they must feel like they're so close." You say. "She spent her life working to defeat me. Now it was taken away and then I was exiled by the Empress." You let out a heavy sigh and run your fingers through your head and ears. "She wasn't told to let go...we forced her fingers open. Exposed all her cuts and gashes to the open air."

"Of course Tai Lung, life is not just as simple as a bush of roses." Oogway agrees sadly. "Let us take this unfortunate incident one step forward. What if suppose after letting go of this rose, this person looks down to realize that it was not a rose at all but a bramble patch?" You stare at Oogway in confusion.

"Master...could we speak plainly please?" You ask politely.

"If only life were as plain as we would like it. But very well. Tigress's goal, her rose, was you. To defeat the Evil Tai Lung. To stop him from destroying China. But what does she see when she meets you?" Oogway pauses and you realize he wasn't being rhetorical.

"She sees a monster." You say plainly. "A killer, a murder."

"No...what are you?" Oogway pushes gently and he motions around you. "As a whole person, including those around you."
>>
"I'm...me. Just someone who wants to do the right thing. Protect the innocent. I travel with my friends, my family. I-" You stop as it all comes crashing down around you. "I'm a lie...no. Her whole life became a lie. Every time she met me I changed. I saved people and had gave people a chance at redemption. I became a hero. I found a family. I befriended royalty and helped prepare for a war." You find yourself leaving your meditative position and simply sit against the edge of the pool to stare at the ceiling.

"She doesn't know who she is anymore. She doesn't know what anything is. All she can do is cling to the past and watch as the evil she was supposed to defeat get everything he wanted. Happiness, freedom, even essentially a pardon for all the terrible things he did. Who wouldn't be upset? Weren't the bad guys supposed to be stopped not rewarded? Did no one remember all the evil things he did? And yet here you were, doing what you wanted and getting everything you wanted.

Your mind reels as more and more thoughts pour in. She was lost in her own way just like Xin, Ming, and Ren were. Just like you were before you met an old goat you saved on a whim. But she didn't have someone to show her that she was not useless, to find her own emotions and empathy for the weak, or that even those that reveled in violence could be given a second chance. All she had was herself and all she could do was merely wallow in what she thought was the truth.

"So how do I help her?" You ask. "She pushes me away every time I try and talk to her." Oogway smiles and begins to get up.

"One cannot treat a wounded person by simply wrapping up their entire body. You have to work slowly, injury by injury. Likewise, you cannot force an injury to heal. It has to do all that on it's own. All we can do is ease the pain and give the body a little nudge." The old turtle places a hand on your shoulder and for a brief moment you think you feel it's weight. "Thankfully, you are not alone. You have many hands to help you. Yes, even your small wife can help...if you can keep her from teasing the poor girl." He chuckles as he walks away. You feel your cheeks heat up from embarrassment.

"Xin's not my...wife." You start to protest out of habit but by the time the words begin to leave your mouth Oogway momentarily steps into a beam of sunlight and vanishes. Adding to your confusion, your find yourself kneeling and feel something jab you in the back of the head.

"I found him! He's just meditating." Xin Lan calls out before standing on your lap. "You know we're probably not allowed eat here."

"What is this place?" Ming asks, setting aside some bags by the door and heading inside.

"The Hall of Heroes." You say as you stand up causing Xin Lan to leap backwards. "Like Xin said, we're not allowed to eat here." You pick up your rabbit and tuck them under your arm. "I'll show you around some other time. I think the real Sword of Heroes is around here. One that won't just chip away after a few hits."

"Wait hold up I wanna see Luo's sword! You can't just mention that and not show me!" Xin Lan shouts as they struggle to break free from your grip.

"Here, have some of the big guy's buns. You need to put some more meat on those bones." Xin Lan says swiping a bun from your plate and holding it out for Ming. Soft wisps of steam rose from the various bundles of food that lay between all three of you as the chill the coming night was slowly blanketing the Valley of Peace. All three of you had perched yourselves along on the Palace's walls that overlooked the Valley itself but not before quietly sneaking into the kitchen to borrow a few dishes and cutlery. Being so high up in the mountain, everything from the Village below sounded muffled and muted giving the effect that the Valley was blanketed in the very peace it was named after. It was hard to ever imagine this place being thrown into chaos.

"Xin give Tai Lung back his food. Besides, I still have to watch how much I eat." Ming says as she grabs her drink. Xin Lan responds by merely pulling the meat bun apart and allowing the smell waft out into the air. "...Alright fine." Ming says and quickly snatches the bun as she gives into the temptation.

"You know...your hometown is kinda boring big guy." Xin Lan says mid chew. "But like in a good way. Everything is so quiet...but not the dangerous kind I grew up with. Here it feels alright..."

"That's good. I think after the last few months of travel we could all use a small break to settle down." You say. "Not that we won't have a few busy days ahead of us. Still, it's good to know we don't need to worry about any danger."

"I wonder where the rest of the Five are." Ming wonders outloud.

"They're probably one some mission or another. Or maybe they're serving as the Empress's personal guard." Xin Lan suggests.

"I doubt it. The Five don't seem like the type that would just leave the rest of China unguarded. The Empress has her own personal guard so it's more than likely that they are looking into troubles elsewhere." You say.

"Maybe we'll see them sometime. They'll come back eventually right? How long are we going to be here?" Ming asks.

Phew, sorry about that gents. I had a huge test I crammed for. So two months it is.
>>
You give it some thought. If you wanted to be completely honest, you could see yourself spend a whole year here as well watching the survivors find their place in the Valley and simply being at peace. But it would also be a hollow experience without Renshu. He completed your little group you called a family and Xin Lan was right, your rabbits came in a set. You couldn't just deprive the little one of their only blood relative and seeing only one pair of ears when entering a room just felt wrong. Still everyone had been through a rough time these last few months, Ming most of all, and some time was needed to regroup and recuperate. If you were to stop a war then you all needed to be at your best for whatever horror you may come across.

There was also the lingering timer above your head. You had roughly 8 months left of the grace period the Empress gave you to settle your affairs before you were officially banished. While that wouldn't really mean anything to you, you didn't want to besmirch Hien's reputation after he stood against his family for you. Last of all was you didn't know how Renshu was doing. For all you knew he was in danger, or injured, or perhaps in over his head. The longer you waited here, the greater the risk you'd never see him again. "Two months." You finally say causing Xin Lan to look at you mid-bite.

"Just two? Bit short isn't it?" They ask. "We have 8 whole months all to our selves. I think we should take advantage of that."

You shake your head. "No, I think the sooner we leave the better. The faster we head out, the faster we can get to Ren."

"Ren's a big bun. I'm sure he'll be fine." Xin Lan says nonchalantly. Had it not been for the fact you could passively sense them and their emotional state, you would have almost fallen for the lie. Almost. In truth, anxiety and restlessness bloomed every time their older sibling was brought up. They just wanted to put up a brave front. One you didn't want to call out.

"But Ren's not in Mongolia is he?" Ming asks. "You said he was farther to the north in the uncharted lands. How do we get there?"

"I figured we'd just keep walking north and following the compass. I'm certain someone in Mongolia would probably know more. They might be aware of it like we are of Japan. Maybe they have trade routes or something." You admit. "It's probably the best plan we got."

"If only Hien could come with us. He's the only one who knew the language." Ming says.

"Well we got the next best thing. Hien gave us a copy of a language book for Mongolian. I could very well be the one he used to learn himself. It'll in the the cart."

Ming claps her hands. "Excellent! I'll get to reading that right away."

Xin Lan leans in. "Hey we're ditching the fake Stripes right?" They whisper conspiratorially. "No need to bring that stick in the mud along."
>>
"No. She's coming along with us. We made a promise to Hien...or at least he made a promise on our behalf. If we just leave without her it'd look like we fled the country and it'll be on Hien's head. You're just going to have to get used to it...for Ren's sake." You say. Xin Lan crosses their arms, this time not attempting to act cute about it.

"You know I hate her." They say under their breath.

"You should give her a chance. Everyone deserves redemption." You console.

"She didn't seem to offer the same courtesy when she tried to kill you." They counter. You sigh and pull Xin Lan into a one armed hug.

"Everyone tries to kill me. I don't think we should be hold that against them anymore." You say but Xin Lan huffs in protest. "Besides, there were...some circumstances behind it. We'll need to discuss it at some later point."

"I won't let her touch you." They mutter and you leave the subject be.

"So, 2 months." You reiterate. "That should be enough time for rest. For now, let's just take this day by day. Plenty of things to help us keep busy and get ready." Everyone gives a nod and with that, dinner was concluded.

You lead the girls to where you remembered the guest rooms were. Unlike the room you and the Five slept in, the guest rooms were, while still relatively plain and simple, better furnished. There were at least full sized beds compared to the mats you were used too as well as a small desk, drawers, and a small bookshelf for personal items. "This place isn't too shabby." Xin Lan says as they flop face down on the bed and waggle their fluffy tail. "I thought you guys would like sleep on the floor or something. That boring old monk life style."

"We do but that doesn't mean our guests have too." You say as you drop the blankets you were carrying for them atop Xin Lan. "It'll be a bit colder here than on the road but these blankets should be more than enough to keep you guys warm. In the morning we can meet up on the kitchen for breakfast. We'll finally able to have something freshly baked."

"What do you mean meet up?" Xin Lan asks as they poke their head out of the pile. Thumping their hand against the bed they say, "You're gonna be sleeping here with us aren't you? We need to you keep warm!" You cough and clear your throat as you feel your face flush. "Oh come on! We've slept together often enough! I never hear you complain when I do it. Stop being a prude."

"That's different. We're out on the road and when we're in town we only did it to save money." You say.

"Well what about the Warren?" Xin Lan asks. "Only Ren got his own room. We all had to share."

"For once, I think Xin is right." Ming says sheepishly. "I've gotten kinda used to it. It feels a bit strange not having you guys sleeping near me. It actually makes me feel a bit insecure to sleep alone." She admits.

"See? Even Ming agrees." Xin Lan says triumphantly. "So come on. Bed's waiting for yoooou~."

"I...have something I want to do...first." You mutter. Xin Lan frowns.

"Booo! No excuses." They heckle.

"I do. I want to do some writing." You insist before looking out of the window into the night sky. "I figured I've taken enough from this place. Maybe it's time to give something back."

"That's fine. I kind of want to write something down myself." Ming admits.

"What? You guys can't just leave me to do boring writing! Ming you're not that old! It's to early for memoirs." Xin Lan shouts. Ming pulls them from of their warm blanket prison.

"I won't. Actually I might need your help. Besides, you started this whole writing fad with your books. If anyone is an old bun, it's you." Ming teases.

"My work is full of vigor and excitement. I'm not old!" They protest. Xin Lan turns to look at you but you've already vanished.

You spend the next few hours detailing the various techniques you had learned while in the Spirit Realm. It was rather difficult to put into words given that the training you received was rather esoteric and much of it had been modified from and based on what you already knew. Thankfully your time in the library had helped develop your writing a bit and the exercise was something that just needed enough time to complete. By the time you finished the moon had reached it's cresent and midnight had struck.

You stand up and stretch your back before looking down at your work. Your greatest techniques transferred from your mind to paper and given a physical form. You decide to head straight to your father's quarters. Despite the lateness of the night you figure that he would still be up. You feel a cold breeze blow through your fur as you wander the dark halls of the Palace but you do not shiver. It had been a long time since you ever felt uncomfortable with the air around you. As you make your way to your father's room, you find yourself agreeing with what Xin Lan said. The Valley was quiet but in a comforting way. It felt like a nice blanket keeping the whatever bad things were out there away and lending a clear mind for which to contemplate life's many mysteries.

You arrive at your father's doorstep and just as you had predicted find the faint light of a candle or lantern glowing from behind closed doors. You pause momentarily to uncharacteristically collect yourself before knocking gently. You hear no movement from within and so you knock once more. Your father was not the kind of man who would sleep without turning off his lights and you doubted that he had become so old that he needed a light on in case he woke up and was unable to reignite it himself. A few moments longer and just before you knock for a third come you hear Shifu's voice speak up, "Come."

You slide the door open and step in unable to keep from feeling like a sheepish child. You felt unworthy to be here as if your past actions had turned you into something tainted that threatened to destroy the sanctity of this place and the memories you had of it. As you close the door behind you, you see Shifu walking up to you, arms in the opposite sleeve. It seems he was expecting someone else as he seems surprised to see you. "Ah...Tai Lung." He says quietly.

You didn't like the way he said your name. It was less of a greeting and more like he was stating a fact, reminding himself that you are actually here and it was not just his imagination. That in itself was confirmation that something else was on his mind and knowing that he was your father, you knew that he did not have the skills to express his emotions well as you once struggled to do so.

>What do you say?
>Present the your scroll to him immediately. You don't want this to get too awkward.

Gonna ask dad what's up. Writing. inb4 Shifu is just traumatized from the last time he had to give his son bad news.
>>
"Something on your mind, Father?" You ask. As expected Shifu shakes his head.

"No. I was merely contemplating. It seems like time for meditation is becoming a scarcity these days." He deflects. "Though I suppose I should be asking you the same. It's quite late." You tried giving your father a chance but now it was time to turn to the Tai Lung family stubbornness.

"Father I understand how difficult it might be to open up about your problems. We've both in positions where people expect us to be strong, infallible. But I also know from experience that attempting to hide your concerns and worries will merely make it easier for you to stumble and fail when people need you the most. You don't need to carry the burdens of leadership alone. The people around you are willing to help you carry it with you and not for you as you might fear." You say in an attempt to elevate your father's worry. You sit down on the floor and offer an open space for Shifu. "If something is bothering you, we can keep it between ourselves. We're family." Shifu gives you the same open mouthed stare he would always give you when he was confused or conflicted before finally sighing and pulling his hands free from their sleeves and sitting down next to you.

"When do so much time pass that you began speaking to me like I was the child?" He asks half exasperated.

"When I decided to drag a certain bunny along to travel with me I suspect. When you have to deal with a handful like that on a daily basis then you kind of have to become the adult in the group. Although I suspect you're used to rearing small fuzzy handfuls." You say with amusement. "But let's not derail the conversation. Something is bothering you." You say the phrase more as a fact than a question. A tactic you learned all too well from being disciplined by your father.
>>
You have to admit that you do get a bit of glee from seeing your father on the receiving end of being interrogated for something they were hiding but the look he gives you means that he knows you weren't going to let this go. Finally dropping the stoic act, you see Shifu's shoulders and ears sag. "How can any man not be upset at knowing their son has been banished from their home. Even as you sit here I can't help but see a timer counting down the day until I'll never see you again. What's worse is that it only serves as a reminder of a time where I would have merely turned my back and lied to myself that it would be for the best. You were doing so well. Living up to your real potential. A real hero."

"I made some unforgivable choices in the past father. To say that I got off lightly is an understatement. That being said, while I will be banished...it might just be fate that another snow leopard might show up at the Jade Palace. Like Hien said, it was merely a political move to placate the nobility." You explain though your father still seems unsatisfied with that.

>What do you say?
>Say that you've learned that being a hero isn't about rewards or fame. You do it because it's the right thing to do. Although admittedly you might be a bit more severe in your punishments than what the classic hero ideal is.
>Say that your exile is actually liberating in a sense. Though you're not allowed to come back it also means that no one will ever come looking for you. You can live the rest of your days in peace and explore the rest of the world. As soon as you deal with the brewing troubles in the north that is.
>Say that the people already know better. Perhaps it's not widely spoken of but there are those that know you have changed even beyond those of the Library. Knowing that some see you as redeemed is enough to keep you going.

"I don't do this for recognition or fame. I've learned that I do this because it's the right thing to do. People are weak and they can be cowardly but what they lack in strength and bravery they make up with intelligence or guile. Everyone has something they can offer to the world and I don't know if I could bear robbing the world of their potential because it simply didn't benefit me." You say. "I do what I do to protect the people who need it...though I suppose I might be a tad harsher in doling out punishments than what people expect a hero to be." You shake your head. "In any case, it's as I've said before. The exile is nothing to worry about. If I want to come visit then I will. Despite everything, I still haven't lost my stubborn streak." You say with a grin before reaching into your pocket and drawing out the scroll you worked on for the past few hours.

"The real reason I came to see you tonight, however, is this." You say handing over the scroll to your father. He takes is curiously but does not open it out of politeness, allowing you to explain. "I have mastered everything that has been stored here in the Jade Palace. I think it's high time that I've given something back. In that scroll is Dragon Style Kung Fu that I learned from the Great Dragon Shenlong. I can think of no one better and no place better to guard and contain such information." Shifu's jaw drops in shock and he nearly drops the scroll. He fights to maintain his grip and not hold the scroll at the same time as if it was on fire.

"Wha- I-I...can't accept such a thing. Here!" He stammers before attempting to thrust the scroll back into your hands. You push the scroll back into Shifu's hands.

"Why not? I want the Jade Palace to have it along with all the other teachings of the masters. Just like the Sacred Library the Jade Palace has always held any and all knowledge of Kung Fu." You say. Shifu continues to shake his head.

"Tai Lung if what you said is true, and I suppose stranger things have happened to you, then this should not exist. This was a gift from the Dragons to you and you alone. Such things they do not give lightly and are not meant to be given away like a common object. If they wanted us to have this knowledge then they would have shared it with us already. What would the Wind God think knowing his secrets were being spilled by the one he trusted with them." Shifu explains, half panicked and half exacerbated. You frown slightly, you suppose your father might have a point. He did give you the knowledge as a reward for saving his children and befriending him. But then again it wasn't like you were intending for everyone to learn it. Just to leave it as a sort of legacy.

>Its history is as a relic of China, the first friend of Shenlong who rebelled against her kind for their cruelty. I believe it is a 'Secret' because history swallowed its creator, rather than anything else. The knowledge is dangerious, there is no doubt, but I trust you to protect it and I trust that this being added to the library of the palace will honour my predecessor as much as it assauges my aim for legacy. I reckon that Shenlong will only take issue with us if he is still angry at the death of his kids.

You shake your head. "It is a relic of China just like all the other techniques. Created by the first mortal to ever befriend the Great Dragon as a means to use against her own kind against their cruelty towards ours. I believe that it is a 'secret" because history swallowed its creator rather than anything else. This is ancient, and dangerous no doubt, but I trust you to protect it and I trust that this addition will honor my predecessor as much as it assuages my aim for some kind of legacy. Hide it if you must, but keep it. If you still fear retribution, I think that the Wind God would be pleased knowing that her memory once again lives among the people so spent her entire life trying to free. In a way, I think she has found her way back to a home she would be proud to live in." You say as you wrap Shifu's fingers tightly around the scroll and let go of it yourself.

Shifu pulls the scroll closer and you get up. "It is late father. We can discuss it more in the morning but I'm glad that I had a chance to talk with you again. We'll have more time in the coming days too...though that does remind me." You begin, stopping as you open the door way. "My friends and I will depart to the north in two months."

"Two months?!" Shifu exclaims uncharacteristically. "But the Empress gave you a year. It has been nowhere near that long."

"No, but I can't stand idly by while something threatens the country in the north. I may have a year but the Mongolians will not grant me the same reprieve. And I don't think any of us can sit around comfortably knowing one of our own is out there fighting alone. Please let Tigress know. I doubt she is in any mood to talk to me at the moment." You say.

"I was hoping...Yes, I see. You're right of course." Shifu says as he tries to hide his disappointment. You give your father a small smile.

"I'll be back. In time for new years I hope. The last one I celebrated was nice." You assure him. "Hopefully the 5 of us can make the Jade Palace more lively. Maybe the Dragon Warrior might have met his match at the table as well. Xin is small but they can stuff their face better than anyone."

"I...don't think we can afford that." Your father replies.

"Don't worry. Ming and I will pay for half of the food." You chuckle. "Goodnight Father."
>>
---

By the time you arrive in the others' room you see Ming fast asleep in bed. Judging from folds in the blanket, you can see that she is hugging something tightly to her chest and given the pair of ears poking out from the blanket you can guess that it's Xin Lan. Unable to hide a smile, you quietly grab a blanket that had fallen to the ground and lay on the floor next to the bed. Ming and Xin Lan were going to give you an earful once they woke up but you couldn't really compel yourself to just jump in bed with the two girls. You stretch a bit before years of practice kick in and you soon doze off on the hard floor with your last thoughts being of how strange it was to be back home once more.

----

The sounds of stone and metal clinking together await you as your eyes open to greet the early morning. You carefully shuffle to the side to avoid something that was dangling right above your face only to find that it's Ming's arm which had slipped out of bed in her sleep. You get up, carefully slip Ming's arm back under the blankets, and tuck her in once more. She immediately tightens her grip around one of the pillows and curls up into a ball again to avoid the morning chill. You double check that she was still asleep before stepping out into the hallway and walking towards the noise. The wind fails to bother you once more as the chill feels like nothing more than a refreshing breeze and helps you wake up.

You track the source of the sound to the training hall and though you were expecting someone to be there, it was surprising to see Xin Lan of all people. The white was completely shirtless, and though you were told what they were, even someone as perceptive as yourself could find nothing that would indicate whether or not they were male or female. Xin Lan stood atop two of the dozens of balance poles perfectly still save for the squats they were doing. Across their shoulders was an iron beam holding several stone weights that were nearly 3 times the rabbit's size. Sweat pours their brow and chest they continue their exercise. As they exercised, you can see the muscles slightly bulge out of their fur. Xin Lan's form was perfect, each muscle was working in tandem with the other so that the weight was distributed equally and working each tendon and muscle evenly.
>>
Despite the workout, Xin Lan's face was perfectly neutral without an ounce of emotion, their eyes locked straight forward, and a cursory feel towards them showing no emotional state. It was as if they were more machine than rabbit. Your heart races as pangs of shame come over you and you feel your face grow hot. As much as you could appreciate, or respect as you correct yourself, an athlete's form, you were still seeing Xin Lan half naked. You manage to pry your eyes away for a moment to collect yourself.

>What do you do?
>Leave Xin Lan alone and go somewhere else. They seem preoccupied or perhaps wish to be alone if they're turning off their emotions. (Where do you go?)
>Continue watching and wait for them to complete their set before inviting them to breakfast. You never liked stopping halfway during a routine. It just feels wrong and empty.

Oogling Bunwife I mean we're gonna "study" Xin's technique...or something. You've sealed your fate anons
>>
You decide to wait for Xin Lan to finish their set before announcing your presence. They probably already knew you were there but it would be incredibly dangerous to surprise someone while fully focused on lifting something several times their own body weight. Despite your best efforts, you can't peel away your gaze away from them. There was something mesmerizing about watching the small figure lift such large weights without hesitation or struggle. Part of you begins to doubt that you were merely watching for academic purposes but those doubts and everything else begins to fade as you start go deep into thought. There doesn't seem to be any sign of fatigue beyond the sweat on their fur but for people like you, the bunnies, and The Five sweat didn't really mean anything beyond something that was instinctive to the body. As you contemplate that thought, you come to realize that you've never seen Xin Lan actually struggle before physically.

As far as your adventures have gone, you always took on the most physically demanding tasks and even fights between the two of you were more for fun than anything truly strenuous. Now you wonder how far they can push themselves. Have you been holding them back with your worries? They didn't really seem to mind what you told them to do...at least inwardly so you know it wasn't laziness that kept them from asking you for more difficult missions. Perhaps they really did trust your judgement. You feel a nice feeling of happiness knowing that someone trusted you that well to risk their life on your decisions. Your subconscious pulls you back into focus as you passively hear the sounds of weight lifting come to a stop. You knock on the door politely and call out as you step into the training room proper. "Well this is a surprise. What's the occasion?" You ask, attempting to seem casual while avoiding looking at Xin Lan directly. Out of the corner of your eye you see Xin Lan's blank eyes slowly come back into focus and the spark of life fills them once more.

"Big guy! Did you enjoy the view?" They shout, dropping the weights besides the balance pools, and the damp bunny leaps towards your face. You swiftly side step to avoid the half naked rabbit and they rocket towards the wall. "I saw you staarring~!" They continue to taunt as bounce off the wall and land deftly next to you. "And the occasion is the fact that I haven't had a good workout in forever. I can't maintain this figure by walking and training novices alone~." They say winking slyly at you and turning to shake their hips at you. Mercifully you had already turned around to only see it out of the corner of your eyes. Xin Lan pouts, "Of course this wouldn't be a problem if you just wrestled with me in bed but you have to be a prude about it."
>>
You sigh and grab a nearby towel to hold out. "You should at least cover yourself up." You say. "Someone might see you shirtless."

"I am covered up." They say motioning to their pants before taking the towel to dry off. "See? You should know by now that I don't have the same views of what's normal compared to everyone else." Xin Lan rolls their neck and shoulders. "I was just warming up though. You wanna join? I wanna see how much you can lift. I know you of all people haven't had a proper workout since like...your escape? What was the rumor? 'He was tied down by two mountains attached to the wrists and his body paralyzed by a poison potent enough to kill a thousand men'" They grin.

You chuckle. You always found it amusing the lengths of people went to demonize you even if it meant creating ridiculous feats of strength that you accomplished. "It was two boulders and there was no poison. Merely a contraption meant to lock down my torso with a combination of weight and acupuncture to seize up my muscles." You say. "It was quite formidable though I suspect poison would have been far more effective. Once the contraption was unlocked, the rest of my containment fell apart."

Xin Lan backflips to sit atop one of the wooden dummies and gives you a smile. "Show me." They ask as they cross their leg over the other and rests their chin in the palm of their hand.

>What do you do?
>Oblige and grab the heaviest weights you can find. You might need to rig something up to give yourself a challenge. (What exercise do you do?)
>Simply grab what Xin Lan was squatting. Your confident you can use that weight as a warm up. Maybe as a dumb bells for bicep curls.
>Say that you'll show what you can do when Xin does the same. Make it a competition like always. You know Xin Lan can't say no to a friendly wager. Especially if it means a chance at teasing you some more.
>Decline but offer to spot Xin then ask for more information. Knowing them, staying in shape isn't the full reason why they're doing this.

Gonna flex for the bun. Writing.

You lift up the barbell that Xin Lan was using with one hand, weights and all. A quiet yet excited little giggle escapes Xin Lan as they see you effortlessly carry it to the back of the training hall. Out of habit, you return the weights back to their storage and begin to search around for something specific though it doesn't take you long to find it. Tucked away in the corner of the storage room, you find a set of obsidian black weights. Although they were caked with decades worth of dust they are unmistakable, it's Master Rhino's personal weights. You recall the tales of Master Rhino diving into the deepest mines of China to find the strongest and heaviest materials known to man for his own personal training equipment. The tales say that because of his training that his muscles became as hard the weights he used and it made him both unstoppable and immovable. Once he started running to ram into his opponent, no force in the world could slow him down.

The tales held some truth, however, as these are the heaviest weights you had ever worked with although you had preferred to maintain your feline flexibility and speed over becoming an unstoppable force. There was little use for that if you couldn't punch or kick properly because your body had become overworked. A frown down come across your face. Why where they in such disuse? Surely one of the Five or the Dragon Warrior would find some use out of it. Perhaps even they were incapable of using them. Slightly unsatisfied at your answer, you begin moving out the weights and setting up your old routine. The floor seems to give out a sigh of relief as you remove them to move them. Xin Lan waits patiently as you get ready their eyes never leaving you for a second even as you do a few warm up exercises to limber up. If you were going to be honest, you hadn't expected to be doing this.

Finally, you get started. You bend your knees and in one fluid motion deadlift the immense weight then raise the barbell above your head before setting the weights back down just as cleanly. You can feel the immense joy radiating from the small bunny as they watch you. "It's as they say Xin." You say repeating the exercise. "Don't try to con and conman or try to out lift a lifter. So, why exactly are you working out? I know trying to stay in shape isn't your only reason."
>>
"What? Can't I look good for my big guy?" Xin Lan jokes. You give them a look.

"My eyes are up here Xin." You say. "And I might always know you're lying but I think I'm getting pretty good at it."

"Oh I know where your eyes are at big guy. But the rest of you is just as nice." They say with a smile. "Maybe I just wanted to make you do this." They say slyly. "And all those other times? Charity big guy. If I didn't want you to know something, you'd never know that I even knew it."

"If you wanted me to lift, you'd have asked. Or begged rather." You counter as you begin to add more and more time between steps of your set. 5 seconds maintaining the deadlift before the press, 3 seconds for the overhead. You couldn't lie, you were quite happy to be working out like this once more. No pressure, no rush. Just your own willpower pushing you forward to see how far you could go. You have to resist the urge to try and immediately go to what used to be your old records. Maybe you could go past them or maybe you were too old but everything had to be done in moderation. Patience was key. Rushing would only lead to imperfections and injury. "And you may be right. If you really wanted to, no one would ever even know you existed. That's why I'm asking. Because I do know you exist and I did notice you had ulterior motives. So that only means you want me to know and you want me to ask about it. Either consciously or subconsciously." You wait a moment to hold the weight over your head before you continue. "You know, I'm not much of philosopher-"

"The way you talk I think you'd be on the same level as my brother. It's probably why the two of you get along. Although to be fair, he was never much of one while we grew up." Xin Lan interrupts with amusement. You chuckle.

"Ok. I'm a philosopher then. But I've been thinking. That first time we met. I only just realized that you had no reason to ask me to help you rob the tournament. You could have done it alone and had been long gone before anyone even thought of double checking the prize money. So why come to me? I think you were lonely. But no just any kind of loneliness. You were alone...maybe scared deep in your soul. I mean if we look at your plan without any emotion. There's no logic in asking for help. It just means a loose end." You say. Despite your workout, you had yet to break into a sweat much to your delight.

"But I couldn't feel anything back then, big guy. That was long before you stole me and Ming away." Xin Lan points out. You would shake your head but you didn't want to break form.
>>
"But we both know that isn't true. At least, we know that such as state was no permanent. It must be impossible to simply take a person's emotions away completely. Otherwise, what's left isn't a person. Think of it this way. If you take someone's emotions away then they wouldn't understand the value of life including their own. What good is an assassin that has no sense of self preservation? Whether by accident, or fate, or on purpose you still had something left in you and all we had to do was kindle that tiny spark. So yes, I think that you approached me that day because you had lost your only family. You were truly alone and you didn't want that. Of course, you didn't know how to properly address that so you came up with a plan to recruit me to steal some money." You explain. 8 seconds at the chest into 5 seconds over the head.

You expect Xin Lan's happiness to die down at the rather somber discussion but instead they seem even happier. Perhaps they're happy you figured it out? "Maybe. I couldn't say but all I'm hearing is that it's fate we're together and that we're meant to be." They tease. "I can't ever tell you why I did what I did back then. Only that in my mind, everything I was doing made logical sense. So by that logic if I truly was lonely. If my soul yearned to be with someone so I didn't have to be alone. Then I chose you out of everyone in China. If that doesn't make me your wife then I don't know what does. At the very least, it means we're meant to be. Blessed by the gods." They say with a grin. You barely manage to set the weights down to let out a loud laugh. It takes a few seconds before you stopped and restarted to lift once more. Now you were truly curious as to how far you could go. You had never realized, but you enjoyed working out far more when there was someone else you could talk candidly with. Your father, unsurprisingly, was never one for small talk. Now that you had Xin Lan with you, you realize that working out felt alot less strenuous when you were casually talking. Perhaps it was because you mind wasn't solely focused on working.

"Then by that logic, you should be happy to tell me what's on your mind. As is appropriate for a spouse." You joke.
>>
"I don't have to tell you anything. I don't follow normal societal conventions. That's what Ming says." They taunt before letting out a content sigh. "But sure, only because it's you. I need to be ready big guy. For anything. For everything. I don't want to lose Ming again. Or Ren...or you. I need to be stronger. I need to be faster, stealthier. I need to be better. I don't care if I die...but I can't see everyone else around me die a second time." They say quietly. Even as they spoke the truth, you could still feel they were holding something back as you see small ripples of worry flicker here and there.

You decide to not push Xin Lan and simply respect the information they were willing to give you. You hope that they will feel more comfortable to speak further about the matter in time. Instead you say, "Well, we can work on that while we stay here. We're supposed to recuperate but a bit of toning up won't hurt so long as we're careful not to injure ourselves." You hold the barbell at the chest for 30 seconds before lifting it above your head for 27 seconds. Adrenaline and excitement course through your veins. Xin Lan was right, you have worked out properly and this hard in years. Now you really want to know how far you can go. You weren't a washed up old cat just yet. Instead of lowering the barbell to your chest and reverse the deadlift, you lower it behind your neck and go into a squat changing up the set on the fly. Squat, into press, deadlift, back to your chest into deadlift and repeating from the start.

As you continue, you stop adding time to the held points and begin to go through the motions faster and leaving your muscles less time to rest. "So." You speak up again as sweat finally starts to break out. "There's a special vest in the closet you raided for this barbell. Next to it should be some rectangular weights. Grab the heaviest ones you feel comfortable with and we'll start working you through some basic drills. We need to find your limit first before we can start working on gains." Xin Lan nods absently as their eyes quietly follow the barbell.

"Uh huh..." They say absentmindedly.

"Xin. The gear?" You repeat.

"Spoilsport." Xin Lan pouts and walks off to go grab their things. You continue to work out for a while longer until Xin Lan returns wearing the weighted clothing. They pat some dust off as they step back into the main hall and you notice that they're wearing the second heaviest set of weights. "You know, if this was a trick to get me to wear a shirt then this isn't funny." They say. You set down the barbell and the floor boards snap and crack from the sheer weight of it.

"Are you saying your natural beauty won't shine through?" You ask chuckling. Xin Lan plants their fists on their hips.

"I'm gorgeous and nothing will change that. I just don't like that you have attempt to shackle my alluring charm behind the chains of clothing." They say as they start stretching. "But I understand. You don't like sharing me and I respect that."

"You are one of a kind Xin. I'll give you that." You snort.

Shit, I hope a sports anon turns up, I dunno how to train the body to peak fighting fitness.

>Us; train our legs. Leg press and squats.
That shit is painful because a mans body is built for supporting the arms.

For as much protesting and teasing your small bunny friend makes they are a delight to teach. Unlike your old students, Xin Lan didn't require much direction or instruction beyond giving them a routine and letting them get to it. More importantly, they knew exactly what they wanted to get out of working out and could speak to you on an equal level of experience. Coupled with the fact that you had a fully equipped dojo and you soon had a decent workout going. You start Xin Lan off with some basic exercises for today so that they could get accustomed to the extra weight on them though you soon expect to start on more complex things in the near future.

Meanwhile, you slip off Master Rhino's weights off the barbell and wince slightly at the damaged floor. You couldn't do much about that so you simply return most of the weights back to their original storage save for one. Taking the remaining weight in your hands, you begin to do some leg exercises. If you were going to be wandering in the snow then it would be best to strengthen your leg muscles. Running over it was a simple enough feat but you couldn't rely on it for every situation. The training hall is soon filled the sounds of working out. Weights being lifted, training dummies being struck, and obstacle machines being awoken.

It's just as the sun peeks over the Jade Palace's walls that a shadow is cast over the training hall. "You two! It hasn't even been a day and you're already working out. We were supposed to get breakfast together!" Ming shouts over the din as the stands at the entrance, holding her robes tightly around herself for warmth. "Couldn't you guys wait until it got warmer before you decided to get all sweaty?" She asks as she steps in and looks around the training hall only to stop and stare at the ruined floorboards.

"Ming you know I'm always willing to get sweaty with the big guy. Preferably in bed." Xin Lan says as they wander up to her. "I'm willing to share with you though and let you join us." Ming shivers.

"I'll wait until I'm actually awake and it's warmer. You two should go wash up or we'll miss eating with your father." She says with a yawn.

"Well I know the big guy is gonna say no if I ask to join him so do you wanna go Ming? The baths are underground built over a natural hot spring." Xin Lan asks with a grin. "It's been ages since we've been to one." Ming let's out a sigh.
>>
"Alright but remember we're guests here. You always splash way too much and make a mess." Ming says and as prophesied, Xin Lan quickly slips off their weighted gear and hurries out of the hall leaving it on the floor. "Xin! Come back!...They're gone. Do you need help?" Ming asks. You laugh and shake your head no.

"No. I got this. I'll just make them work twice as hard for it tomorrow. They just had the time of their life if you didn't know. It's rare they get that happy." You say, amused. Ming gives you a sly smirk.

"Oh I'm not surprised and I think they deserve to make up for all that lost time. I just wish they didn't put forth the effort to annoy us. I know they do it on purpose." She says.

"It's part of their personality. Honestly, the fact that they're reliable when it comes to it more than makes up for their antics. Besides, I think they're the only person who you can truly say they do it because they love us." You joke. "It means they find us worthy of their time and effort. More importantly, I'm happy that they have someone that makes them that happy."

"MING COME ON! YOU SAID WE HAD TO BE QUICK!" You hear Xin Lan shout from outside. "I EVEN GOT EXTRA TOWELS!" You motion for Ming to go and catch up later as you finish up cleaning up the dojo.

Bathing takes you very little time and your fortunate that the Palace not only had bathing rooms split for men and women but that both rooms were a fair distance apart meaning you didn't have to do much to avoid Xin Lan and Ming. Now in a fresh pair of clothes, including a new shirt that you hope will survive for longer than a few days, you find yourself with a few moments to plan the rest of your day.

You find yourself greeted by warmth and the smell of oil and stir fry as you enter the small kitchen. "Add more carrots." Xin Lan says from the stool on the opposite side of the stove. Ming was busying herself by flipping rice and veggies at the same time with both hands. There as a quite literal hungry look in her eyes as she eagerly watches the food cook before her.

"Xin, I'm not adding any more carrots. We already have carrots in the rice, carrots in the buns, and carrots being fried. At this rate that's all that we'll eat." Ming says as she places both woks down and plants her hands on hips. "Oh hi." She greets you as you walk up to the stove. "I know it's not breakfast food per say but...if I have to eat soup or anything boiled in water in the next few days I'm going to scream." She says motioning to the lunch food she's cooking.

"Carrots are good for you." Xin Lan counters and they leap on your shoulders. "You're looking nice and fluffy~." They say rubbing your ears.

"And you look like a tiny snow ball." You say. "I don't mind. I'll take anything hot and cooked right now." You pull a stool closer to the small island table at the center of the kitchen. "Have you seen my father?" You ask.

"He should be here soon. We walked past him on our way here. He might have gone to get the others." Ming replies and cracks an egg open over the rice. "I'm not sure if there's going to be enough room in here." She admits as she continues stirring. "I want something spicy..." She murmurs and reaches for some bright red powder. You reach over your head to poke the bunny.

"You're going to have to settle down around my father." You say. "No more marriage jokes."

Xin Lan pouts. "Aww come on. Just a few?"

You give Xin Lan a grim smile. "If you do then I'll tell on you. I'm sure Ren would love to hear that you turned his chance to introduce himself properly to his partner's father into a joke." You say. You can almost hear the bunny's mind process this information. To further hammer in the point you add, "Don't worry Xin. I'll make sure you're buried somewhere nice. Maybe overlooking the sea."

"Alright alright. I get it." Xin Lan says grumpily. "But I'm telling on you. You're wielding Ren as a weapon. He'll be so mad at you." They poke you between the ears to make their point. You chuckle.

"I'm sure he'll understand. It's for the greater good." You say.

"If you two are done fighting, I need help setting the table." Ming says.

As predicted, the kitchen is rather snug although that is putting it somewhat mildly. Trying to fit the three of you, your father, Tigress, and the rest of the Brotherhood into the small kitchen space was a rather difficult task and the morning chill only made it more enticing to stay within the stove's heat. Somehow you manage to do it though Tigress insisted on taking her stool into the back corner of the room, away from the table. Xin makes do with sitting on your shoulders and you squeeze between your father and Ming with the rest sitting opposite to you. The atmosphere was cozy, Tigress not withstanding, and you all managed to have a bit of small talk as you ate. It wasn't as cozy as The Warren, though you doubt anything could top that, you were still quite glad that your presence didn't take away from the mood. On the contrary, you felt like you were part of it.

Once, everyone had their fill, you all lingered for a while long though any small talk had faded away and was replaced with a content silence. Judging by the emptied stack of bowls in the sink, it seemed like Ming wasn't the only one who yearned for a meal that wasn't simply for sustaining one's self. Much like the food, the heat of the kitchen would not last forever and reluctantly everyone began to get ready to face the day. As people file out of the kitchen to make room for cleaning, you opt to stay behind and help clean the mess you had helped create.

---

Under the combined might of you and Ming, the dishes stood no chance and the once dirty pile was replaced with a nice clean stack left out to dry. Ming stretches and lets out a tiny sigh. "I'll be in our room if you need me." She says. You raise an eyebrow at that. "What? We're all sleeping there. I told you. I don't feel safe sleeping alone anymore and after living in Renshu's shop for so long...it just feels right to share a room with you and Xin."

"Not that. You're just going to spend all day in your room?" You ask.

"Yeah. After all our travel I just want to relax and just do nothing for a day, you know? Maybe read a book." She sighs, "Or at least I'd love to. I'm going to go down into town and see what the refugees need. Make sure things are going ok. I'll be sure to be back by the afternoon. Then I'll do nothing for half a day." She adds quickly when you give her another look. "You can't just tell me to immediately stop looking after them. I need to slowly disconnect myself. Maybe that's why Sangpo was so reclusive. So everyone could learn to be more independent." Ming wrings out the cloth in her hands and playfully smacks your backside with it. "Well, I should get going. Maybe you should give being lazy a try, fluff butt."

"And maybe the mountains will cow to the winds." You retort with a smirk.

You leave the kitchen and begin to walk the halls once more, this time with purpose. You want to spend some time with your father even if it means simply sitting next to him and meditating. Your search doesn't go for long as a few moments into your walk you can hear him. His voice is seems flustered, bordering on alarmed, though it seems that who ever he is speaking to finds his panic amusing.

"M-Master! You're here- I mean we didn't-" Your father begins before clearing his throat and attempting to return to his normal stoic tone. "Had we known you were visiting, we would have prepared a suitable welcome."

You hear the faint sound of a soft chuckle followed by a distantly familiar voice. "Little Shifu, always the worrier. Please, there's no need to hold such reverence. I'm just an old goat. People pay me no mind and neither should you. I'm merely making my way through old haunts. Although...there seems to be quite a commotion in the village. If age has not dulled my senses, I think there might be a tale to be told there." The visitor makes a dismissive sound. "But I'm sure you have far more important things to do than humor an old man. I only ask for a few moments in the Hall of Heroes and then I'll be on my way."

"Nonsense!" Shifu interjects immediately. "Master Oogway would never turn an old student of his away. You are welcome to say here as long as you wish."

"I thank you. I'm not sure if these old bones can make the trip down the steps so soon. Did I ever tell you the tale behind them?" The older voice asks, hiding a hint of playfulness.

"Yes, Master. Plenty of times." Shifu responds, doing his absolute best to hide the resignation that he will be hearing the tale once again.

"Hmm...It is quite the story." The old man continues and you can see the shadow of both men grow ahead of you as their footsteps come closer.

>What do you do?
>Leave. Best to leave your father with his guest. There will be time to speak with him later.
>Hide. It's very rare that you see your father this flustered and humbled. You get the feeling that this is the enjoyment everyone seems to derive from teasing you.

It's a little of column A and a little of column B. Even TL is getting there. Just look at how he views his punishment. Its more liberating than anything and he's already teased his father slightly about new year visits despite it.

Personally I like to imagine it also come with the territory of being Oogway's personal student. You can only study under him for so long before it begins his eccentricity rubs off on you.

Either you live long enough to become a goofy old master or you see yourself be a grumpy old man.

I also figure it has to do with Luo and Oogway's life. Luo goes around hearing stories celebrating and commiserating with the people of the world. Oogway lived an insane life, escaping from home, fighting through war, loosing friends. Both kinda hit the point where they see life as something much more precious than the average philosopher sees. So they can't help but take joy and enjoy its little wonders yet also understand that others have yet to reach that level of enlightenment. So it's kinda easy to tease them a little bit.

Also Shifu was always a little stick in the mud even as a child so it's kinda been a a little family tradition to kinda wind him up a little for Oogway and Luo. TLs family has the big guy, Oogways has Shifu, and I imagine Po's had Tigress.

Sorry, exams threatened me and I had to beat them back. We are talking to goat friend. Also maybe it was a bad to idea to not let Xin be rampant enough.

You stride forward ready to meet the two men. "I'm surprised you're still wandering. And you never told me you were my father's senior. Withholding a good story is a bad habit for a storyteller, don't you think?" You ask cheerfully as you greet both the first man you ever saved and the first person to ever offer you the chance to do better rather than continue to condemn you for what you had done in the past. The old goat's eyes light up when he sees you and he leans against a cane to offer you a hand to shake. Despite it being a simple cane, even someone untrained as you can see that it's craftsmanship is of the highest quality. Part of you wonders if it surpasses that of the royal blacksmith's.

You take the old man's hand and shake it firmly. "I suppose I am to blame. I wasn't very much in the mood for stories when we first met. However I would like to argue the second time I was far more receptive. Although my friend might have been a bit eager to speak with you so I'll forgive that time as well." You joke. Luo chuckles alongside with you and your father seems to be even more confused than before.

"I must say, I never expected to see you a third time but I won't say that I am happy you remember such an old man." He says happily. "Am I right to assume that you are behind the excitement in the village?"

You grin. "Only partially but it is a story that I am willing to share. I can think of no one better to retell it and I feel like it is one that must be told." You say taking a bit of a heavy tone for a moment. "However, you mentioned you wanted to visit the Hall of Heroes? Would you mind if I accompany you? Once Xin Lan gets word that you're here I fear that I might never get your attention again." You turn to face your father. "Father, this is Luo. He's one of the first people I ever saved once I escaped prison and he's perhaps the reason I am even here. He was the first to ever offer me a second chance and more importantly, perhaps the first person to lend me an ear."

"You flatter me but it's what an old man should do. Prevent the mistakes of the past from repeating themselves." Luo says as he begins to take the lead and walk towards the hall. Though he leans against the cane there is still some lightness in his step. However it's clear that the years are beginning to take their hold on the old man.

"Tai Lung, that is Luo Guanzhong." Your father whispers quickly. "He was Oogway's first student and my teacher. We must treat him with respect. He once weilded-"
>>
"The Sword of Heroes." You finish. "I know father. Well...the latter half. He told me of it's creation after I saved him. However, he never mentioned anything about his martial arts background. It seems he would rather be known as a simple storyteller than a master of Kung Fu. I feel that it is just as respectful to speak with him casually as he wishes."

"Even so...we must watch our words." Shifu insists. You give your father a polite nod in agreement and step forward to open the huge double doors to the hall. As the three of you make your way down the hall, Luo points out various arms and armaments and gives small snippets of their history.

"Everything has a story. From the greatest treasures to the simplest of objects. In the eyes of history, we and they are simply pieces of a larger puzzle. Sometimes, they are all that remains to tell the story of their owners. In a way, they honor us as much as we honor one another." He says. You continue your walk for a moment longer before coming to a halt in front of a familiar sight. Before you stands the Sword of Heroes in all of it's glory. Age and use had not dulled it's edge nor did it diminish the smallest of details. You expect the old goat to say something insightful or perhaps to mention a small story about it's use. Instead, he remains silent as he rummages through a small bag at his side. "Ah, here we are. I thought I had lost you." He says quietly as he pulls out a small round plate adorned an image of four small goats, their hands raised in the air. Much like the cane, the bowl was simple yet of unparalled craftsmanship and just like the cane it seemed to be relatively new.

Luo seems to be in his own little world as he sets the bowl at the base of the small stand that held the Sword of Heroes and digs around his bag a bit more. Methodically, he draws forth 4 small sticks of incense that he places within the hole that line the bowl. The sticks stand in such a way that it looks like the images of the 4 goats appear to hold the them aloft much like spears or perhaps a banner. Luo gently leans the bowl into a nearby torch and soon the soft smell of incense fills the air before the old goat gets on his knees and remains still.

>What do you do?
>Leave the room. This is clearly something of a private ritual. You can ask about it later.

Taking a step away. Writing.
>>
You quietly move a distance away to give the old man some space. It was clear he was offering some time to the departed. You wonder if this was something new he had taken up to doing. The bowl did not seem that old and you had never seen the old man in all your years growing up here. You wonder if something had happened recently that caused the old goat to give a second thought to the matters of mortality. Or perhaps it was simply something he would do on the road and it was just coincidence that he was in the area at the time and he decided to offer his prayers in the Jade Palace.

You don't have much to say not that you wanted to say anything as you think it would be rather rude. Instead, you simply wait politely for the old man to finish what he was doing. Your father stands around a bit awkwardly as he seems to jump between wanting to see if there is anything he can do and simply waiting as well. A few minutes pass and Luo blows out the incense sticks before tucking everything away once more. He gives one last bow to the sword before walking back towards you.

"How long will you be staying?" You ask as you step forward to match the old man's pace. "My friends and I will be here for a few months and I'm sure the others would like to catch up with you as well. Not to mention, I'm sure you'd never pass up the chance of a life time. A whole city, once secluded from the rest of the nation now living amongst the regular citizens and all of them at the front door of the Jade Palace? You'd really have to have let yourself go if you want to pass the chance to chronicle that." You say with some amusement. The old man's eyes glint with curiosity.

"Now now. There is no need to tease a poor old man. If you have a tale to tell then by all means. It's rather poor sport to hold one's cards to their chest." The old man jokes.

"I can think of one person who would disagree with that." You chuckle.

>What do you do?
>Tell the old goat what you've been through the last few months. You have been leading him along for a bit.
>Go and gather the others, the Brotherhood included, if you're going to tell a story then you might as well do it right. It could take all day to get everyone though.
