January 1941. The tide in the Battle for the Atlantic is slowly turning in favor of the Allies.
The Kriegsmarine desperately needs something to restore the people's faith in der arische U-Boot Waffe...
They decide that they need a poster child.
Literally.
Meet U-1488, a submarine manned by only cute and funny girls from the Bund deutscher Mädels, and (YOU) are to be their captain!
You will have to survive months at sea with a bunch of hormone driven pre-teen girls and little to no hygiene. On the high seas, at the border between heaven and hell, will you prevail????
>>
In U-1488's home harbor in La Rochelle, France, you meet up with your Officer, who can't quite decide if he should envy or pity you for your new duty:
>Herr Kaleun. Your Crew has finished their two months of training and they should now be able to handle U-1488. Of course we both understand that this boat serves mostly a ceremonial role, so I will let you choose freely what mission you want to take on. Whatever you think the girls can handle. Here are your options:

>LAY MINES
>Difficulty: Easy
>We want you to lay some mines on a popular shipping route in West Africa. You might spot a few enemy cargo ships on the way, but nothing too dangerous.
>Reward: +1 Fame

>DESTROY THE WRECK
>Difficulty: Medium
>U-122 has been sunk off the cost of Ireland in shallow waters. We can't allow the English to salvage its technology, so I want you to destroy the wreck.
>Reward: +2 Fame

>PATROL
>Difficulty: Hard
>You will join a fleet of U-Boots on patrol in the West Atlantic. Your mission is to sink any ships you encounter. Most cargo ships however are accompanied by English Destroyers, so dive down as soon as you fire your Torpedos.
>Reward: +3 Fame
>>
>>5851428
>lay mines
It would do little good for the troops morale if we are sunk on our first mission.
If the Fuhrer believes this is how we can best serve the reich, he will have his propaganda piece. As it is, we can consider it an opportunity to put the new crew though it’s paces.

>Yes, that might be best. Give them some time to get used to the ship.
I will forward the mission details to your Radio Operator. You should go say heilo your crew. They are eager to meet you.

The full moon softly illuminated the harbor of La Rochelle. In this tranquil hour the heavy machinery stood still, and only the sounds of party and celebration could be heard from the nearby barracks. However the crew of U-1488 was still diligently loading the ship.
>>
You are greeted by a young girl who eagerly comes up to you to shake your hand:
>Oh, you must be our Kaleun! Welcome on Board!
She looked no older than 13 maybe. (Note to Yankees: In this Alternative Universe one year is actually 1095 days, so she is actually 39)
>My name is Erika, I'm your First Watch. I'm your second in command, I'm also in charge of the Torpedoes.
This was your second in command, so probably the oldest... god help us all...
You notice a bunch of the crew members loading luggage onto the vessel. Toys, dolls, plushies... a lot of them. Probably enough to offset the lower weight of your crew.

It seems you already have a decision to make:
>Don't say anything
>Get that crap off the boat! It will only weigh us down!

It was a very sensible compromise. At first the girls were frowning at the order, but Erika came to your support.
>You heard him, girls! This isn't Kindergarten! We are on an important mission here!
And the crew obeyed.
>See, they aren't so bad, are they? Let me show you the ship!
Your First Watch smiled and lead you aboard.
>U-1488 is a fresh off-the line Type VII-C U-Boat. 50 souls on board, along with 11 Torpedoes, the Deck and Flak guns. The maximum tested depth is 230 meters. The boat has a very slim profile, it's basically one long hallway inside. From back to front we have:
>The Aft Torpedo
>The Electrical Engines for when submerged, maximum speed 7.6 knots
>The Diesel Engines for when surfaced, maximum speed 17.7 knots
>The Kitchen
>The Aft Accomodations
>The Command Center
>The Radio and Acoustics Stations
>The Officer's Accomodations
>The Toilet (singular)
>Front Accomodations
>The four Front Torpedoes
>>
As she shows you around another girl notices you and suddenly stands up startled, before saluting you:
>Oh, Herr Kaleun! Heil Hitler!
Erika rolled her eyes:
>This is Lotte, the Second Watch. She is responsible for the deck and flak guns among other things. As you can see, she is kinda... enthusiastic about 'the party'.
The blonde girl frowned:
>Of course I am! Just like every German should be, and everyone who is based and redpilled really.~
>What does that even mea- ugh, forget it.
>What do you think about the Nazis, Herr Kaleun?

And already there is drama...

>I don't care much about politics. I mean, if Hitler did nothing wrong, why haven't we won the war yet?
Erika liked that.
Lotte disliked that.
The blonde girl pouted:
>It's those damned Anglos. They would rather run their Empire to the ground than surrender! But we will show them, Kaleun!
THE DAY OF DEPATURE

U-1488 left the harbor of La Rochelle with Great fanfare, the Officers on deck waving away the people at the docks. You set course to West Africa, it's gonna be a long journey.
>Halbe Fahrt ahead.,*
you order.
*TN: Halbe Fahrt means Half Speed
The U-Boat thrashes against the waves while you along with Number 1 and 2 keep watch from the deck. The Atlantic breeze runs against your face, the two girls yawn and lean against the railing.
>Hey, Kaleun. We can keep watch here, you should go down and meet the others.,
Erika suddenly suggested. Might not be a bad idea.
You climb down the hatch into the Command Center. Where do you go from here?

The perfidious Anglo managed to get the Mods to bumplock this thread, but we will not let that stop us...

You crawl through the hatch to the front of the boat, it seems like only the Navigator and Radio Operator are really working, the rest of the crew is already just trying to pass the time. The U-Boat is very crowded with its 50 crew members, and right now it seems pretty excessive, but considering that the crew has to work in shifts, with one third sleeping at any time, it makes sense.
There does seem to be someone who wants to talk to you though:
>Ah, so the Herr Kaleun has finally decided to show himself to his lowly crew.
You turn to see a girl that looked like she was trying to put on a stern expression, but failed miserably as she was just too cute for it:
>I can't believe they let some old guy on our ship, aren't we supposed to be the Unteralterboot? *title drop*
>Why can't one of our own be the Captain?
>Sigh... We will have to make do with it i guess... I'm Charlotte, the Boatswain. I take care of the crew. Someone has to.
She looked over to the Crew Accomodations.
>One toilet for 50 people... this ship really was made for constipated old men...
>Anyway, it's actually good I meet you, Kaleun. I have to tell you, I'm a little worried about the Crew. They don't seem to feel very much at home yet.
She whispered to you:
>Maybe we should do a drill?

Since you allowed the crew members to bring one toy of their choosing with them, the morale seems to be decent...

>Yes, let's do a drill. I have to assess how well they can handle this boat really.
>Let's not rush things. Give them some time to acclimate to this life at their own pace.
>>

>>
>ALARM!
The alert bell started to ring. Everyone began frantically running for their post. Erika and Lotte practically fell down the hatch as they made their way into the sub.
The loud Diesel Engines came to a sudden hold while the Control Room valves were turned and rudders adjusted. The rest of the crew ran to the front of the U-Boat at the orders of Erika to further list it to the front.
>Go! Go! Go! This isn't a cruise ship!,
she shouted at the girls.
The ballast tanks started to fill with seawater and U-1488 disappeared into the waves.
>Periscope Depth, Kaleun.
said the Navigator, shivering and pale, and most of the remaining girls in the control room looked equally terrified. They did pretty well, time to end the charade.
>April fools. Good job.
>Oh, Kaleun... why did you scare us like that...
>Practice makes perfect...
>Phew, it was just a drill...
You look at the depth gauge, might be worth to use this opportunity to see what the boat can take. The maximum safe depth is 150 meters. How deep do you want to go?

The balast tanks filled with sea water and descended deeper into the depths.
>20 meters.
>40.
>60.
>80.
>100.
The hull started to roar and creak as 10 atmospheres worth of pressure were pushing against it. It sounded like the weight of the whole ocean was resting on the boat.
>125 meters.
The crew flinched every time the hull made a sound. After a few moments, the Navigator looks back at you. You give the okay to go back up:
>That's enough for today.
>>
A few minutes later the Diesel motors were pounding away again, and the boat ran against the Atlantic waves once more.
You check on the Engine room where you see a young woman watch the Diesel motors run as if hypnotized by them.
>Ah, nothing more beautiful than a well-oiled machine, eh?
>Oh, I think we haven't met, Herr Kaleun. My name is Heike. I'm the Chief Engineer.
>Taking a break from the watch? Understandable. Erika and Lieselotte both have 'strong' personalities, let's say.
>But they work well under pressure, and that's what matters, right?
>I know it must be hard for you to captain this ship in such extraordinary circumstances, but I think you can trust in the girls. They are all here because they want to be.

Day 3 of your journey down to West Africa.
We have almost made it past Europe, and boredom is slowly kicking in with the crew.
>That stuble looks good on you, Kaleun.,
Erika comments as you keep watch on Deck.
The stuble may look cool, but it feels a little itchy and you feel like you could use a shower.
Maybe in a week or so even the water of the Atlantic will look appealing enough to jump in...
Well, for now it seems like this is gonna be another day where nothing happens.
Who do you spend some time with? (Gonna wait for a popular vote)

You head down into the ship and consider saying hello to Heike, but she seems to be on duty. Instead you head to the Officer's Quarters where Lieselotte is reading a book.
>Oh, Herr Kaleun! Wanna play a game of cards?
You sit down on the opposite bed and fold out the table:
>Sure, why not?
Of course, you let her win. She just looks too cute and happy when she does.
She really seems to enjoy her time on the boat in general:
>I'm glad to have you on board. I couldn't stand it if Erika was the Kaleun. She is nice and all but she has no clue about the world really.
She looked at you and watched you closely:
>I have a feeling you want to say something. Don't worry, you can be honest with me. I'm not a spy just because I like the Nazi party. To be honest with you, I'm not all by the books either, you know? Let me show you something.
She grabbed some luggage from under the bed and revealed a few bottles of French Wine inside!
>Hehe, I got this in La Rochelle. I always wanted to try it. Adults seem to love it! Do you want to open a bottle?

That was actually pretty surprising to see from her of all people.

Lotte smiles smugly:

Erika triangulates the best angle of attack. You order the four front Torpedoes flooded.
>Permission to fire, Herr Kaleun?,
the Crew asks you.
You nod.

Erika liked that.

You capture the sailors and take them on board, it is quite interesting to watch their reaction to the Unteralterboot. It really is a surreal situation even now that you got used to the crew.
The Radio Operator reports the sinking to the BdU, who are very happy to see their little mascot ship do well.

You are ordered to drop the prisoners off to a boat in Morocco after you finish the mine laying assignment.

An occasion to celebrate, Lotte suggests. Right, she took your suggestion about the wine very literally. Ah, to hell with it, if this isn't an ocassion to open the bottles to celebrate, then what is?
The Radio Operator puts on some good music and you pop open a bottle of Champagne with your knife and get out a cigar, a luxury commodity in wartime Germany.
You gather with your Officers to share the best bottle among yourselves.
>Prost! To the Unteralterboot!,
you announce and bounce your glasses. You down it in one go, same as Lotte, while the rest struggles a litle with the taste but follow suit.
They seem eager to continue though, Erika fills the glasses up again.
>And to the Kaleun! Prost!,
she says and smiles.

A few hours later the boat is cruising through the Atlantic at slow speed, it was perfectly still for once and only the stars illuminated a clear sky.
You and Lotte were stumbling around the deck while singing.

>In the kettles the water was rotting!~
>And every day someone went overboard!~

She laughs:

You smirk:
>Hey, a littleeee respect please! We are on duty after all!
You laugh together. She rests against the railing and you notice how she stares at you kinda weirdly:
>Hey, Herr Kaleun... Imagine if the boat was sinking. And we two were floating in the cold waters of the Atlantic. And there is a piece of debree floating too just big enough for one of us to get on. What would you do?

Did you hear her correctly? She looked like she was really waiting to hear a certain answer. Whatever you say now, it will matter a lot in the long term when it comes to your relations with Lotte:

>Simple. I would take it for myself of course. What are you gonna do about it, huh?

She can't control heerself and bursts into hearty laughter.
Phew, you got yourself out of the situation without making any... commitments... just yet.
The Crew celebrates well into the night, but the hangover hits badly in the morning for them.
While you are already keeping watch on the Deck Tower, the rest is still struggling to get up.
"Oh God... I will never drink ever again.", Erika laments as she climbs up to join you.
"Hehe. Pretty sure I said that too once.", you chuckle with a little Schadenfreude.

DAY 10

You have dropped the mines off at the designated coordinates. It's time to head back home.

DAY 12

Your beard is getting very itchy. You still feel tired no matter how much you sleep and you miss solid ground beneath your feet. And the lack of privacy is getting to your nerves as well. If only you got just 5 minutes alone for once. Honestly it feels like tadpoles are swimming in your groin by now...
Still, something about this life is oddly... fun.
Despite the smell, despite the constant bickering between your crew. It feels kinda good when they come to you for every little insect on the boat that needs to be squashed. You are their hero. And you wouldn't mind going on more assigments with this bunch...
You have some spare time. What do you do?

You decide to keep watch with Erika. You'll soon miss the warm breeze of the ocean near the Equator. It feels good.
"In a few days we will be rid of the prisoners. Then it will be a little less crowded on board.", you assure your Number One.
"They have some provisions for us too, right? Our bread is all moldy...", Erika complained. She seemed tired as well.
You try to cheer her up a little: "Mold is healthy, don't you know? You have to appreciate anything that at least something grows on here.", which gets a little chuckle out of her. You continue:
"Don't worry. A week from now we will be back in La Rochelle with great fanfare for our sinkings. Mostly thanks to your good work on the Torpedoes."
"It's the least I can do. I didn't come on this boat to look pretty for the newspapers, you know?"
"Well then why did you come here? You don't seem to be much of a warsupporter to me...", you ask her curiously, but it seems like she hesitates a little with answering and instead directly looks at you:
"You ask a lot of questions, ever realize that? Like you expect everyone else on this boat just to orbit around you or something. Why don't (You) tell me something about yourself for a change?"
After a few moments she looks down:
"I apologize, Herr Kaleun. It's been a rough few days."
"No, you have a point. I should look at you eye to eye a little more. This journey may have started out as a joke from the BdU, but I feel like it could become more than that. Well, where to begin..."

Erika liked that:
"I never thought you had such a romantic side to you... You know, I went on a cruise a few years ago. That's where I really fell in love with ships."
You remember Lieselotte once mentioned that Erika comes from a very well-off family. Well, the way she put it was more along the lines of what a spoiled brat she was.
Maybe it was her family that made Erika join this Crew?
She yawned a little.
"You are pretty tall for a sailor, aren't you? Compared to the prisoners... you must feel very confined on this boat...", she suddenly said.
You look at her very confused. Two minutes ago she shouted at you for pretty much no reason and now she drops something like that?

DAY 17

You drop off the prisoners to a friendly boat off the coast of Morocco. You resupply and get some fresh food on board which increases morale significantly. In a couple of days you will be home, you think.
Then suddenly the Radio Operator calls you over.
"New orders from the BdU.", she tells you and hands you the transcripted message.

Convoy for HMS Empress spotted in Quadrant DH16, moving 220° at 7 knots. 6-8 ships. HMS Empress is carrying prototype technology for the English. Very high priority target. U-1488 is the closest boat. Attack at Kaleun's discretion.

Your patrol might not be over just yet...

You give orders to the crew through the speaker:
"Important announcement. We are gonna remain on sea for a little longer. BdU has ordered us to chase down an English convoy. This is a very important mission, our chance to prove that we are more than just a mascot for the Kriegsmarine."

Your Navigator calculates the interception course.
You issue a command to Chief Engineer Heike that she has been begging to hear for the whole journey pretty much:
"Volle Fahrt ahead!" (TN: Volle Fahrt means full speed)
Usually German U-Boats only travelled at half speed to preserve fuel, but for this chase you had to go all out.
The Diesel motors were pounding like crazy and U-1488 cruised deep into the Atlantic on its mad dash towards the convoy. You and the watch had to dodge waves as they broke against the ship.

DAY 19

You reach the estimated location of the Convoy.
"Periscope depth."
When you dive the engines switch to the Electrical Motors, which are normally charged up by using the Diesel Motors. The Electrical Motors are used underwater, as they don't require air to function like the Diesel. Something that will become very important shorty.
For now you just dived down to use the Hydrophone, a listening device that can detect the proppeler sounds of a big convoy from 100 kilometers away.
Sure enough, the Operator confirms that the Convoy is closeby. You update the course and surface again.
And sure enough only a few hours later you notice smoke on the Horizon.
"ALARM DIVE!", you shout down the hatch, and the boat disappears beneath the waves.
You and Erika watch through the Periscopes.
"I can see two Destroyers... and a Freighter. The Empress?", Erika comments. You come closer, but realize it's the wrong ship. You have no choice but to trail around the Convoy at Periscope Depth, slowly draining your Electrical Motors. Eventually you overtake them and end up ahead. You spot three more warships, and another Freighter. Shape matches with the description. Bingo. You have the Empress in your crosshairs.
"Shit... We can't get into a right angle to attack, Herr Kaleun! Destroyer in the way!", Erika ehouts down the shaft to the Command Center.
Shit indeed. Your Electrical Motors are running out of juice. You can't trail the convoy much longer. This is your only opportunity...
"Try to get one above 60 degrees!", you shout back up. Erika does as instructed.
"Flood the Front Torpedoes!", you order.

>You have to fire at the HMS Empress at a suboptimal angle. The Torpedoes have a 1 in 2 chance to be a dud. Everyone roll 1d6 to see if the Torpedoes detonate. (1-3 = dud, 4-6 = hit, only the first 4 rolls count, each roll representing one Torpedo). We will need to hit the ship with at least two Torpedoes or get a critical hit (6) to sink it.

Most of the Crew gathered anxiously in the Command Center, listening intently to Erika as she watched through the Periscope.
"We have a dud, Kaleun!"
"Another dud..."
"Three duds, Herr Kaleun!"
"SCHEIẞE!", you exclaim and shove the navigation maps off the table in anger, much to the annoyance of the Navigator.
"Wait, Kaleun, we have a hit! Right at the bow.... ship's still looking strong though..."
That's at least some good news. Still, even if the ship would sink eventually, if the English got the tech off board on time then this operation was basically for nothing.
Suddenly Erika, panicking and feeling a little guilty for this whole situation, even if it was outside her control, got an idea:
"I-i-if we turn around we could fire off the Aft Torpedo too... in less than 10 minutes."
That was an idea...

"Alright, Number One, calculate the course. Steer 35 to port. Engines on 'Äußerste Fahrt' (TN: Maximum Power). Go! We will bring down that royal bitch!"
The ship turned in a wide circle as the Electrical Engines began pounding away. The HMS Empress meanwhile had already stopped. Still, Erika couldn't calculate the course until U-1488 had finished turning around.
Meanwhile, the other ships in the Convoy raised their own alert.
Finally, after a few moments that felt like an eternity the U-Boat had turned and faced away from the damaged freighter. The pounding of English engines and guns could be heard in the distance. Erika had to eyeball some values, there was no time to waste.
"Flood the Torpedoes!... Fire!"
The next few seconds everyone stood still.
Then Erika's heart skipped a beat.
"I... i missed."

BOOM!
You were about to shout some profanities that were not at all suitable to the innocent young ears around you, but you were interrupted by a loud sound that made the whole boat shake.
"We have been hit!", Lotte shouts.
"Alarm Dive! 100 meters! LI [Chief Engineer], assess the damage!", you command.
The front of the boat had a leak and water was pouring in, making the boat sink faster than expected. Above you bombs hit like thunder into the water.
Heike and some of the Crew rush to the leak to stuff it as they got drenched in cold sea water, while the rest of the Crew is ordered to the Aft to offset the weight imbalance.
Your buoyancy is decreasing with every drop of water that comes into the boat, much more and you will sink to the ocean floor.
The boat creaked and shook as depth charges roared around it.
Morale is quickly decreasing. The crew is panicking. Batteries and Oxygen are already low due to chasing the Convoy at Periscope Depth so long.

Descent into hell

"Schleichfahrt!", you shout.
You give your commands and rush to the front of the boat to assess the damages for yourself.
You see that two crewgirls have been wounded badly and are being treated by the Medic already.
The hit was at the very front of the ship, only the Front Torpedo Room is damaged. 'Glück im Unglück' as the German saying goes: A little fortune in a misforfunate situation. If the stern of the ship was hit instead, you wouldn't be able to use the Electrical Engine anymore. Perhaps you won't end up in the 'Iron Coffin' just yet...
Still, at this point the whole crew is panicking. They slowly get the water out of the Front to the Command Center where it can be pumped out, but you are still sinking.
"100 meters...", the Navigator shouts.
"120 meters...", she continues.
The ship starts to creak.
The Radio Operator, having already sent out a distress call, checks the hydrophone:
"Destroyers right above us!"
The boat shakes again as water bombs explode around it.
"150 meters Herr Kaleun!", you hear from the Command Center.
"Blow the ballast tanks out already!", you shout back.
The ship stabilizes at around 180 meters.
The Crew is about to abandon all hope, when suddenly Heike returns.
"Leak is stuffed, Herr Kaleun!", she tells you.
That's something. That's at least something! Right now the ship is still slowly sinking but maybe, just maybe the Electrical Motor will keep you from going deeper until the water is pumped out. And then the buoyancy alone will allow you to surface again.
Water bombs again. The ship shakes.
The air starts to feel heavy.
You turn on the Blue Light, everyone who is not working tries to be as quiet as possible and goes to rest to lower their oxygen intake.
At this depth the water pumps out very slowly. You don't know if the battery charge will be enough. But you try to remain cool around the girls.

An hour has passed since the hit. The Destroyers are still circling you. The crewgirls try to breathe slowly as the carbon dioxide level in the air is increasing with every breath. The pump is trying its best but the water drains very very slowly. Then after long silence the water bombs hit around you again. Suddenly Erika, one of the last crew members still working, starts crying.
"It's all my fault! We are all gonna die because of me!", she whines.
"Be quiet! They might hear us!", you tell her, but that only makes her cry even louder.
You have to silence her somehow!

You kiss Erika, which makes her shut up immediately. She barely comprehends what is going on. There are probably more romantic moments for a first kiss than in a U-Boat 180 meters below the surface that could get blown up at any moment, but for you and Erika it feels almost fitting. As you get your lips off of her, she looks at you just blushing unable to say anything really.
You put your finger on your lips: "Psst."
Suddenly another crew member speaks up: "I... i think I'm gonna cry too Herr Kaleun..."
That was so funny that it even made Erika laugh, while still covered in tears and snot.

You spend what feels like an eternity underwater, slowly moving away from the Convoy at a crawl. The girls luckily don't use up as much oxygen as adults would, otherwise you might not have made it... Glück im Unglück indeed.

Ascension

Finally, after 8 hours underwater, half the crew already throwing up because of the bad air and causing a horrible stench in the whole ship, you ascend once more. And U-1488 defiantly shoots out of the water into the night.
You climb out the hatch with the Officers, and the whole crew gathers in the Control Room to breathe in the fresh cold air.
"Diesel engines. Let's get home, men.", you call down.
Heike's face fills with tears of joy as she finally hears the pounding of the motors again.
The Unteralterboot makes a mad dash through the waves.
"Not yet, Kameraden! Not yet!", you shout out into the night as you dodge the waves with Erika and Lotte.

Some time later your Radio Officer runs up to you and hands you a transcribed message she picked up.
"Message from U-56, Herr Kaleun!"

DAY 18

You meet with U-56. Its Kaleun welcomes you on board.
He explains to you what happened after you went under: "We were chasing down the Convoy as well. It seems about 4 hours after your distress call the HMS Empress sank. They moved its cargo onto the other Freighter. Probably thought they were safe, but when the warships were busy with you, we snuck in and finished the other Freighter off."
So it wasn't all for nothing! You grin out of genuine happiness: "And with that you distracted them from us. And not a moment too soon, we almost suffocated."
The other Kaleun shrugs jokingly: "A little time in hell makes heaven all the sweeter, doesn't it? You will be heroes when you return to La Rochelle."
The other Kaleun looks over to the Unteralterboot, and its dirty and tired crew on deck:
"A silly idea, this Unteralterboot. Don't you think?"

>Not at all. I can't wait to go on more patrols with them.

And with that its time to depart again.
The other Kaleun salutes you as you cruise off:
"Godspeed, you crazy sons of bitches!"

DAY 20

The Unteralterboot is on its long voyage home. You notice that the crew while tired has gained a certain appreciation for you, even those that were sceptical at the start like Charlotte. However, they also noticed that there is just something different about how you have treated Erika. Not that that's bad of course, you two seem to play off very well of each other. But that means the other Officers on the boat will keep a professional distance from now on. Well, unless the hormone situation gets too bad for them...
You actually haven't talked much with Erika about what happened back then when the boat was under. But you can both tell that between you there is something brewing... something special.

>Though the combat could definitely be beefier
ive been considering that but i havent come up with a satisfactory way to do it yet
i dont want something too complicated, a subsim will beat me on that front anyway, but what subsims dont really have is characters, so i will probably try integrating that into the combat system
maybe you assign sailors to a specific officer and that gives them a boost, something like that

You shouldn't make a new thread yet. We're still on page 3 so the thread will last a long time. Besides, most people on /qst/ sorts the threads by last reply instead of bump order anyways, so it doesn't matter if there's a bumplock. Also, it's considered bad etiquette to make a new thread until the old thread's on page 9 or 10 because if everyone starts threads willy nilly all only a few quests would be able to fit on the board.

Chapter II - The Vacation

February 1941

You are Herr Kaleun, Captain-Lieutenant of U-1488, a German U-Boat manned by only cute and funny little girls to serve as a propaganda piece for the Kriegsmarine. (You are the only male and adult on board.)

Your journey began as a shitpost so blatant the Mods bumplocked the thread immediately after I posted it, but it has developed into a genuinely tense and heartfelt submarine story.

You have just finished your first succesful patrol in the Atlantic and returned to your home port in La Rochelle, France...

You meet up with your superior from the BdU:
"Congratulations on that Iron Cross, Herr Kaleun. You deserve it. U-1488 will need to get some repairs after your little encounter with the English Destroyers. You and your crew are freed from duty for two weeks. Enjoy your vacation."
You nod. Due to your previous choices you already know that you will be spending the time with Erika.

Most of the crew members return home to their families. Some of them just for the vacation, some others however will not return, as life on a U-Boat proved too much for them. They all have lots of stories to tell to their families regardless.
You and Erika on the other hand are going to Paris for vacation.

The train with its crowded wagons and subtle shaking reminds you both of the boat. Only instead of the vast Atlantic outside you see the beautiful French countryside passing by.
Erika's parents had promised to come to Paris as well, but they are waiting at the Hotel. You think it's pretty cruel that they don't even bother to pick up her own daughter at the Train Station, but you don't say it out loud. You actually appreciate that you have a little time to spend with Erika alone walking through the streets and exploring the city.
>>
This was the time when it seemed like Germany had pretty much won the war. Only a few flags and spare German troops from time to time served as a reminder that this was an occupied country, and only a few half peeled off posters served as a reminder of the continued Underground Resistance. Otherwise it was business as usual in the City of Love. Perhaps if they knew what this place would look like in 80 years time they would look at you a little more favorably...
As you walk across the streets holding Erika's hand you look a little like father and daughter.
Suddenly a homeless man missing his legs spoke up to you from the side of the street:
"Monsieur, could you spare some change for a veteran?", he asked you in French. He probably couldn't tell you were Germans.

>Of course. Here you go.

Erika obviously felt pity for him but she wasn't old enough to remember the Weimar times. When the German people were enslaved by debt, when the French invaded the Ruhr, did they show any pity to you back then?
"Where did you get those stumps, huh? Beating up German workers for reparations? We're even now, old man.", you tell him.
The man looks back at you with a stern expression as you are about to leave:
"Your hate will be your downfall.", he muffled under his breath.
You turn to him again: "What did you just say? Watch your tongue, you are speaking to a German Lieutenant."
He keeps his eyes on you with a defiant expression: "You know, us Frenchmen have been in your exact position before. We believed ourselves to be above all others in the world. We also had a charismatic leader who stunned the world with his military genius. His name was Napoleon. In the end, your beloved Führer will end up like him."
You are about to snap at him, but Erika tugs on your sleeve and you decide this hobo isn't worth the hassle.
"We'll see about that.", you just tell him and move on.

Still you feel like your vacation has been spoiled a little. What does Erika see in this place that she wanted to come here so badly? You would have much rather spent the vacation in an Alpine Resort...

You reach the Hotel. It looks like a palace! Erika's parents really must be filthy rich.
A steward greets you:
"Fräulein Von Fritzlkeller? Let me carry that to your room."
You look at Erika confused:
"Von Fritzkeller... wait, you aren't a jew, are you?"
"No silly, I'm nobility.", she explains. Great, a country bumpkin like you will have to contend with literal aristocrats for the whole duration of the vacation. At this point you wish you were back on the boat again...
>>
When you enter the Lobby you quickly spot Erika's parents, and you loosen your grip on her so she can run up to them. But surprisingly, all she does is a little proper bow:
"Mother. Father."
"Erika. Good, you made it on time.", her mother just says. This is how they greet their own daughter returning from literal war?
Erika's father barely speaks a word with her and instead quickly turns to you:
"So you must be the Kaleun? I have heard good things about you. I hope my little problem child wasn't too much trouble for you."
"Not at all. I couldn't imagine a better First Watch really.", you reply.
Erika's father gives only the subtlest hint of a smile at that, as nobles tend to do, as if there was no greater sin than to show emotion:
"Ah, that's great. The duty must have straightened her out a little."
You know that Erika can be a little moody, but a problem child? Just what kind of family is this...
"Our table is booked for the evening. We still have some time to go sight-seeing.", Erika's mother explains.
"I don't believe the honored Herr Kaleun has been to Paris yet. Where do you want to go?", her father asks.

Erika's father seemed happy to hear at: "Another Catholic, sehr schön!"
He orders a carriage for the four of you. You watch the busy streets of Paris around you on the way, while Erika's father is still observing you a little, but he seems to have taken a liking to you: "You know, the Fritzlkeller family hails from Austria. We have a long and proud history. We can trace our lineage back a thousand years. There have been some truly remarkable individuals in our family, like the Knight-errant Roland von Fritzlkeller, or the Alchemist and Scholar of the Occult Wolfgang von Fritzlkeller."
"And soon the honored U-Boat Veteran Erika von Fritzlkeller.", you add.
"Perhaps.", her father says.

Find out what Erika's ancestor got up in my new Quest 'Errant Knight Quest'! >>5858896

Like most South and West Germans at the time you were raised Catholic, while the North and East are majority Protestant. Germany was one of the few religiously divided countries at this time actually, with many towns having two churches. A problem in the eyes of the Nazis, who want complete German Unity. While Catholocism isn't really persecuted by the Third Reich, Protestantism with its German roots in Martin Luther and lack of a foreign figurehead like the Pope is much more endorsed.
And while Pope Pius XII is officially neutral on the war, there are rumors that he in turn is not a friend to the Nazi regime either.

You haven't been very religious for most of your life, you didn't even bring a bible on board for your patrol. But your survival alone is pretty much a miracle at this point and you feel a little more inclined towards the spiritual now because of it.
You enter Notre-Dame, one of the biggest and most beautiful Cathedrals in the World. Even if it's just the architecture and nothing supernatural, this place still just feels holy.
You decide to sit down to pray. Only you know what you are praying for, maybe good luck on your next Patrol or with Erika?
You see there is a Priest doing his duties, and still feeling unhappy you decide to ask him for confession. He agrees and you go into the confessional to explain:
"Forgive me father, for I have sinned... I think I have fallen in love with a child."
You could hear the Priest adjust in his seat a little across the other room in the booth: "The devil's temptations can come in many forms, my son. But man has a choice to resist it. You should not see the boy again."
"Actually, it's a girl."
"OH! Oh... in that case perhaps, there is a possiblity that your feelings for her are pure. What are your intentions with her?"

"Honestly, I wish I could marry her. I wouldn't mind spending the rest of my life at her side.", you explain.
You can hear the priest adjust on his seat again:
"I see. And what does she think about you? Have you talked to her about your feelings?"
"Well, I... we couldn't really discuss that up until now, we have a professional relationship so to say... it's complicated.", you try to explain.
"Even children can fall in love. If your feelings are mutual then here is nothing impure about it. Yes, before you start consulting God maybe you should first consult her.", the priest explained.
"Thank you father."
You get out of the booth and look around for Erika, who was sitting alone on a bench looking crestfallen for some reason.
"You alright, lass?", you ask her, putting your hand on her shoulder. She looks up at you and you notice she has tears in her eyes. "Why do they hate me? What did I ever do to deserve this? I thought I would finally make them proud with the Boat thing but they still hate me...", she cried out quietly, probably refering to her parents.
You try to console her: "Don't cry now... it's alright... I..."
You try to think of a good way to make her cheer up again. You have flashbacks to the kiss on the boat. But you can't risk her parents watching from somewhere, even if you can't spot them right now.

"I'm sure they are proud of you, they just don't know how to express it. We will just have to be even better until they have to admit you're amazing.", you assure her and you put her hand on her shoulder to comfort her.

That evening you eat at 'La Mineure', a well-known Paris Restaurant. Of course, well-known only to people who actually can afford a table here. Both German and French high-society in one place.
"A place in France where you can't smoke. Now I have seen everything.", you joke as you are lead to your table.
Erika's mood hasn't improved much, you can tell by her eyes, even though she tries to hide it very well behind good etiquette.
You can't even really focus on the food and wine, you find your gaze mostly wandering to her, while her parents don't really seem to care. They mostly look at you and ask you out about the Battle in the Atlantic.
Only a few minutes after you finish eating and only a two glasses of wine in you decide enough is enough.
"Wanna join me out for a smoke?", you ask looking at Herr Fritzlkeller. He looks at his family: "If they ladies don't mind?"

You go outside and you put on a cigarette as you watch night-time Paris outside. Then you look back at Erika's father:
"We need to talk about something. I don't think Erika appreciates how you have been treating her."
"What do you mean? You want to tell me how to raise my own daughter?", he replies looking confused and a little angry.
"Well, you might be her father, but I am her superior. And I'm seriously worried your behavior will impact her performance on our next patrol. I'm not saying you are doing it on purpose but some of my higher-ups could even interpret this as a disruption of the war effort.
And now you come to Paris, and we both know this city isn't as peaceful as it looks really. They might theoretically interpret you coming here as further evidence, if I were to send a letter to headquarters about it."

Of course that was a big bluff on your side, no way that would amount to anything, but you try to count on the reputation of the Nazi party.
And it works. He seems really scared but he tries to hide it behind furiosity:
"This is ridiculous! I'm not opposed to the war! If I was, why would I have sent Erika to the U-Boat?"
"Then what or who are you opposed to? Your own daughter?"
"Just who do you think you are!"
"With all due respect, Herr von Fritzkeller, I am an honored Lieutenant of the Kriegsmarine, and who was the last renowned member of your family again? Some fucking alchemist? Forgive me for my insolence, but I really doubt your name will hold much value in Berlin."
He looks at you obviously defeated: "What do you want from me?"

You return inside and the two ladies can't really tell the talk you had outside.
As you empty the wine bottle over the next hour, Erika's father suddenly for some reason seemed to become a lot more appreciative of his daughter:
"Herr Kaleun told me about all the things you did... I'm very proud of you... To think my little Erika is the First Watch on a warship... It must be really hard to steer a Torpedo course... I love you...", and so on. And as you see Erika smile you can't help but smile too.
>>
After her parents already went to sleep in the Hotel, you and Erika continue explore the streets of Paris at night. They were still safe back then, even though you try to be a little quiet with your German. Suddenly Erika spoke up:
"You put him up to that, didn't you?"
"I don't know what you're talking about~", you reply but she isn't buying it so you can't help but smile.
"Thanks, it was still... nice to hear. But it was your words out of his mouth, wasn't it?"
"I dictated a few things, some others he improvised...", you admit jokingly, when Erika suddenly grabs your hand.
"And... who of you came up with the 'I love you' part?"
You can't answer.
"I love you too.", she says and you share a passionate kiss.
You stand still with her embraced, at the backdrop of the Seine, one of the thousands of rivers that feed into the massive Atlantic Ocean. The same water that you and Erika might soon be buried under.
Far off from one of the houses, some Frenchies watch you from afar:
"Oh la la! Ecoute, un pedo!", one of them says.
"La forme la plus pure de l'amour~", the other says.

Erika's parents leave Paris a few days later, but you and Erika still have some time before it's back to La Rochelle for you. Where do you go?

You visit the Eiffel Tower. I mean, when you are in Paris you kind of have to at least once, right? The Parisians call it their "Iron Lady", a monument to the French Revolution. The tallest building in the world up until a few years ago actually.
Still, it would have been kinda based if the Wehrmacht blew it up you think...

As you walk through the Champ de Mars, holding Erika's hand, a photographer suddenly speaks up to you in German, though with a thick French accent:
"Meun Herr, weuld you like to take une photo with yeur leuvely daughteur?"
"Daughter? Oh, right. Sure."
You and Erika take a photo together and you give it to Erika as a keepsake. She will take it with her on the U-Boat, and due to your vacation together her Morale will be greatly increased.

You enjoy your vacation, drinking a milkshake together, going shopping a little, and unlike the first few days with her parents this part of your vacation sadly flies by way to quickly for your liking.
You and Erika soon find yourselves back on the train to La Rochelle again.

This is quite possibly our last chance to attack Scapa Flow before the construction on the Churchill barriers finally starts...
A bunch of new blockships were were already sunk after the raid in 1939, but the barriers were still being planned at this time, so it's still possible for a U-boat to sneak in. And we'll get to make Churchill look silly! This is very important.

"We will take care of the Harbor Assault. Imagine the face on that fat alcoholic of a prime minister when he gets a bloody nose from a bunch of little girls."
Even the BdU Duperior couldn't help but smirk at that.

You make your way to the boat when you come across the Kaleun of U-96, also stationed at La Rochelle:
"If it isn't the Kaleun of the Unteralterboot. I have heard a lot about your last mission. Where are you heading this time?"
"I volunteered to assault the English at Scapa Flow.", you explain.
"Volunteered? Are you sure you want to take the girls on such a dangerous mission?"
"There's nothing dangerous about it. The English are helpless against U-Boats if we don't get too cocky."
"Just be cautious, Herr Kaleun. The Airbattle for Britain has been decided. English planes patrol the skies."
"You don't really think we are gonna lose the war?"
"All I'm saying is enjoy the good times while they last."
You doubt it. At this point, Germany controls the continent, and is allied with Italy, Japan and the Soviet Union. What could possibly go wrong now?

Your Officers are already waiting. Lieselotte, Heike, Charlotte, and of course Erika, who approaches from behind you to take your hand in front of everyone.

You get on the boat and it leaves La Rochelle with great fanfare.
There are some new faces on board this time, and two new officers, the BdU Officer claimed.
Down in the Command Center you already meet one of them.
"You look handsome, so you must be the Kaleun!", you get called out.

"No, I just got promoted to Officer."

DAY ??? - LIMBO

U-1488 cruises through neverending seas. You are on Watch with Erika, when you suddenly hear someone call you down:
"We have a problem down here, Herr Kaleun!"
You climb down the hatch into the Command Center, where Lieselotte and Charlotte are waiting for you, when suddenly a bunch of crew members assault you from behind, pinning down to your knees.
You struggle but you feel very weak against the girls for some reason.
Lieselotte approaches you with a rope in hand to tie you up:
"This is a mutiny. I'm sorry but it was a unanimous decision. Herr Kaleun, your mind is clouded by your love for Erika to the point where you are neglecting your duties. You are in no condition to lead this boat."
Your hands and feet struggle against their bindings and you look up at Lotte who stands in front of you:
"Are you out of your mind? You are commiting high treason just because you are jealous?!", you shout at her.
Lieselotte pouts:
"Silence!"
She takes off her panties and stuffs them into your mouth leaving you muffled.
Then the little blonde girl looks over to Charlotte:
"Regarding Erika... hmm... throw her overboard, Number One.", she commands. Charlotte answers:
"Yes, Fräulein Kaleun. What about former Herr Kaleun?"
Lieselotte smirks at you:
"We still have some use for him. Yes, he will be very busy serving the crew and satisfying all their urges... every single day..."
>>
You wake up from some loud commotion in the boat. Someone took someone's toy or some other pointless crap. And just when the dream was about to get good...
Still, you feel like the dream was trying to tell you something. Did you neglect the rest of the crew too much? You decide you should socialize with them a little more.

so it wasn't a doujin, but a minecraft story like those in /r9k/ ? reminds me of the "oreimo" threads there kek
>>

no it was an actual real minecraft villager news story
it was some uncle not a cuckchan fag

speaking of, if the discord suggester is reading this, i tried it out but it was too insuffrable for me
i knew that discord was gay and the people on this board probably too, but holy shit i underestimated just how gay
they wanted to ban me for answering to a book suggestion with "thank you but i dont take recommendations from brown people"
i can still add you if you wanna talk though, just dont expect any updates on that server

it's me, id is different 'coz I'm not at home now and I find it strange they wanted to ban you for that since they use nigger, faggot and tranny regurlarly. I'll try finding your message there and dm'ing you.
