We had utterly beaten up the entire battalion. The soldiers still conscious were either in full retreat or limping away from the sight of the battle. This may be the Wintry Battlefield that represents the harshest conditions of war, but it was of little concern to us gods.

[OBERST] "C-COWARDS! Get vack here...! Oooh!"

[ESKART] "It would seem you've only amounted to a little bump in the road, despite everything."

[JENK] "Perhaps you would be interested in letting us pass now, to prevent further beating, kommandant."

The spectral Heer officer chuckled.

[OBERST] "Not yet. I still have VWUN hast trick up mein sleeve, godlings."

The officer turned around and ran into the tree lines. We all watched in weak anticipation to see what he could possibly have next to brook us gods. Then, we heard the roar of an engine coming to life.

Something colossal was moaning across the snow with heavy tracks, running the trees right down!

POWERED VIE A CONSTANTLY SELF STOKING FURNACE OF NUCLEAR REACTOR POWER, ZHIS CUSTOMIZED PANZERKAMPFWAGON HAS REPLACED ITS RUDIMENTARY EXPLOSIVE SHELLS VITH A NUCLEAR FUSION CANNON! VAAHAHAHAHA! WOLDORIAN TECHNOLOGY IST ZE GREATEST IN DIE WOOOOOOOOOOORLD!"

[ESKART] "No mortal military would be capable of what those we faced just now pulled off in the real world. Not at all. It is this realm itself, it makes its defenders unnaturally strong. I see now..."

[ESKART] "Yes... I see. Woldor is manipulating the very concept of what constitutes "mythology" to begin with. In other words... in his own realm, where his power is greatest, he is to us what we are to ordinary mortals in the real Hainei. He is trying to awaken new heights in us the hard way."

[OBERST] "Brave kriegers, you have earned die right to ascend now from Tealgrad and die Wintry Battlefield. You may now pass the next rainbow gate to the Rivers of Mead and ale. Go now and prepare zurselves."

[STORMTROOPER] "Die Kommandant of ALL HEROES awaits."

[OBERST] "Ja. Lord Lud-vin. Die Demigod of Heroics... fabled und storied warrior und lord of Siegesia awaits you. Zhe brassy spear of legend, Atgorvi, shall test your resolve harder than we can."

We pressed on, through the next rainbow gate, across a bridge of the color spectrum. We ascended higher to Flaxgard. We rose through the Realm of Mythology, to Ludwyhn's doorsteps in the River of Mead...

When we arrived... we found ourselves on a longboat. We were adrift amongst an enormous river of black stuff.

'Shennu? What is all this...?'

A probably foolish question to ask, knowing the name of the place. But nevertheless, Shennu went to the side of the longboat and peered down at the waters below. If anyone would know water and liquid, it was her.

[SHENNU] "This river is made entirely out of dry stout."

[WOLFBOY] "Can I-"

[SHENNU] "No."

[WOLFBOY] "Aww..."

The entire river is made of stout... The ponds of mead, the waterfalls and rain of ale! This is a truly intoxicating land!

'This is... of Ludwyhn's personal design?!' I said.

[JENK] "Not only that, but the clouds you see in the distance there are not clouds. They are foam spilling from an endless font. The giant tankards and glasses you see there. Even the light in this place is no result of any artificial sun, my dears. It is the shine of clashing, tinking mugs of beer!"

Every few minutes, there was always a great toast in the sky by two cyclopean glasses, spilling bubbling beer suds and foam, lighting the place with their clash and resounding chinks. Along the river banks of the land of celebration, we saw Einheri warriors and old Woldorian soldiers alike all gathered for a show, raising high their glasses, barrels and kegs and cups of all they drank that was black and orange and green! They feasted endlessly on long tables and round ones, with dinnerware of silver and gold, and courses of meat and honey that never stopped coming! There was a place here for every warrior that celebrated their deeds, even the milkdrinkers! Woldor left none out of these eternal revelries. This was his promise to the soldier, to the fighter. The greatest brotherhood in arms they could ever wish for!

It was a beautiful sight, but now our longboat had arrived, steering itself on these warm winds into a dock on the left side of the Mead River's bank...

When the plank on the side dropped down on its own to the cobblestone pavement, we all stepped out warily and towards a ring of taverns. We were surrounded by chiseled and old dilapidated walls overgrown with green vines. We were in the middle of a divine vineyard, shaped suspiciously like a round arena...

[LUDWYHN] "Kupt me waitin, did ya? Aboot time ya made landfall here."

A blinding light suddenly flashed us. I raised my hand to block it, but looked past my fingers. In the mist of that light, I saw a man in florid garments, topped with scaled armor and mail. He wielded a leather shield bearing the colors and insignia of the Pantheon. He held a brassy spear high, consummated by gleaming pattern.

This was one of the greatest warriors in all Siegesia. The hero patron of all Woldorians. The Commander of the Heroes. Lord of all regiments, supreme master of all armies. Our challenger awaiting...

[LUDWYHN] "I be Ludwyhn, car-ahs. My symbol is the cross of Woldor. Me spear be anxious fer yer hides, which I'll be tanning tonight. Ye shan't pass me by, cuz I'm gonna knock alloyer asses down a notch'er two."

[ESKART] "I wouldn't be so sure of that. You're still only a Demigod."

[LUDWYHN] "Rightcheaur, ye sodden twink! But ye'll find I'm a ploughin tough as nails, toughes hell Demehgod, and I have this to say to ye. Ya'llr not fit even fer me to pick me teets with if they'd be fulla them there cornish hens I'd eaten fer lunch this fine evenin. Ye march in here, tenkin ye's all hot shite just because yer gods. Well, I welcome the challenge. And wit mine here imminent victories over yer sorry soddin arses, I'm in fer a big promotion."

[LUDWYHN] "Das right. Tonight, we bear witness to the birth of LUDWYHN, GOD OF HEROES! YEEEHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

He's full of himself... it certainly matches everything I've heard about him so far. A reckless youth.

The Commander of Heroes before us walked out of the light closer, to where we could get a better look at him. He reached up with his one shielded hand and lifted his winged helmet of bronze that we might at last see his features. His braided blonde hair, his diamond blue eyes, his impressive beard. And his smug... bratty smile.

[ESKART] "...What did you just call me?!"

[LUDWYHN] "A twink. Serhtanly fits your slender, lanky disposition, Eskart. God of bloody book readin. I can already tell now, I'll need only to bash ya up one good one, put ye down fer the count. As for you, pup..." He said, pointing to Wolfboy with his spear, who growled in response; "Ye'll find a more amicable place by me side. I'll be needin a good hound for the hunts, and you'll do, Demigod. Together, we'll fell many marks, we. But ye'll acknowledge me as master first. I'll tame ye wit this brawl."

[LUDWYHN] "Ye, Jenk, are a fine lad. I'll save a spot fer ye at me table inside after this boot. But ye know the rules. I'm gonna have to put me boot up yer pelvis bone first!"

Jenk tipped his hat.

[JENK] "I haven't gotten any weaker since I discarded my flesh, Ludwyhn my boy. Take care you don't lodge that big old poking fork between my ribs."

[LUDWYHN] "HAH! Never change, skeleman. As fer ye, Shennu, we'll be talkin' boot the possibilites of turnin the Grand Strait in the real wold to mead after I clock yer skull. And you-" He said, looking to me now.

I crossed my arms.

There's nothing he can say to psyche me out right-...

[LUDWYHN] "Ye'll make a fine lay after this."

'Eh....???!?!!!'

[LUDWYHN] "Ye heard me!" He said.

Ludwyhn raised his spear.

The Einheri and Soldaten of Flaxgard around were heard raising their beers all together in a toast at once!

[REVELERS] "LORD! LUDWYHN! LORD! LUDWYHN! LORD! LUDWYHN!"

They cheered him on. Clearly, they were betting a lot in their pots on him!

I looked to my right. A table was set with glass and a keg of whatever strong stuff it was the Einheri here drank. Mead, ale, it was something foamy.

[LUDWYHN] "Aye. The beverages capture yer eye, innit? Best drink up now lass, the mead and ale running trugh ere's not like that mortal stuff. Not rotgut. Not anythin bad. Ye'll find. The mead of these taverns're truly blessed, annied have nuttin less for me Immortals'n I! Innit that the truth, fellers?"

[REVELERS] "AYE!"

[LUDWYHN] "HAH HAH HA! THAT'S THE SPIRIT LADDIES!"

Ludwyhn donned his feathered helm of bronze again and turned away, walking over to a seat he had sat out in the circular square. His two fingers of his spear wielding hand waved at us.

[LUDWYHN] "Face meh when y'elr readie. I've got tiem ta burn."

Right. I turned and walked towards that table, Shennu following closely behind me. Wolfboy sat down and poked his regenerated arm, ensuring it was ready for the brawl. Eskart and Jenk stood side by side, whispering in a conversation with one another over the intricacies of Woldor and his enigmatic realm.

[SHENNU] "Are you really going to drink this stuff... sister?"

'If it is truly unlike anything that exists in the mortal world...'

I filled a glass to the foaming top with this yellow, bubbly stuff and held it up, looking at it. It was not even cooled in ice, but the drink glass was already sweating, the ale itself having become cold by something magical at play here.

'Interesting. This ale responded to my tastes.'

[SHENNU] "Huh...? What do you mean...?"

'I prefer my drinks cold. So this ale made itself cold in response...'

[SHENNU] "Really? So this part of Woldor's realm quenches thirsts according to the desire of the drinker... It's perfect for the revels they throw. Ah, and there were some Einheri among us that drank milk, rather than spirits, didn't they?"

Shennu, as if experimentally, grabbed her own glass and put it under the keg's tap... what she drew out was bright pink, in contrast to the yellow ale that had filled mine.

'...What is it?'

[SHENNU] "It's..." She began, looking down into the glass and swishing the pinkish liquid; "...something sweeter. Something the mortals enjoyed drinking around the popular fishing islands of the straits."

Shennu raised her glass and drank it in both hands before I did. When she lowered it and swallowed, she gasped in refreshment, smiling.

[SHENNU] "Hey... it's really good! It's... doing something to me. I can feel energy I've lost coming back."

Without any further hesitation, I felt the impulses of Majordomo slam the tip of my glass into my lips and make me drink the whole thing down in one go. It was foamy, way too foamy! But it was good, it tasted very good. He was right, the River of Mead's juices were like nectar from the gods compared to the real thing. A place where one could drink forever and never get drunk if they did not want to, only full and happy.

Shennu went over to the others right away, determined to see what they would derive from the keg herself as I set my glass own and gasped for air.

I would drink more, but I don't want to become immediately attached to this place. And I rather felt Ludwyhn's eyes in my back like daggers... I decided to look around for a bit. I heard there was apparently a caveman here, from the Kreide. That was the cretaceous period, it was over sixty... maybe one hundred million years ago.

I found him near the river bank sitting on a rock. He was a burly man bearing a large scar he hid under pelts, head obscured by his swarthy and unkempt hair, with a giant club of stone leaning beside him. He looked up at me.

[STONE BREAK BONE] "Mm... You goddess. You fighter. You fight Ludwyhn... hm... not mind him. He is cub still."

'Cub?'

[STONE BREAK BONE] "Cub, yes. Stupid. Dumb. Loud... he respect nobody but self. He of chest pinned many... but given to self by self. He is cub."

Ah, he's referring to decorated chests, a uniform pinned with many rewards. Like some of the Heer souls that made it here to the river, like an old marshal I saw nearby sleeping under a tree, his overcoat decorated down to his belly with rewards on his uniform. I see what he means.

[STONE BREAK BONE] "Ludwyhn have far go, before cub is lion. He only wish to fight, only want to mate, only want to drink and eat. He not... mellowed out yet, like great Wargod did. Like Stone Break Bone has."

'I see you've learned how to talk. It must have taken a long time, didn't it?' I asked. He nodded. 'How did you "mellow out", exactly?'

[STONE BREAK BONE] "Ponder life. Soon you shall find answer. Cannot go all time, and never find answer. I am once like Ludwyhn too. I do many things at end of Kreide. Celebrate deeds here forever, not mean proud of all of them. In age of greater beasts... dinosaurs, it is Stone Break Bone who ended them."

'You made the dinosaurs extinct?'

[STONE BREAK BONE] "Mm. Yes. I kill every last one to prove self. In end, only realize how worthless achievement really is. Realize that because able to do something... not mean should. Nobody remember what Stone Break Bone did. Only recall in Mead River. Only talked about in Mead River. Ludwyhn not realize, valor temporary. But wisdom forever. That why Emperor lasted to today, and Stone Break Bone is long gone."

[MAJORDOMO] "Whack. This primitive dude just murdered KILLALL's philosophy like that, an in thrice less the amount of monologue too!"

[STONE BREAK BONE] "He not creator, Emperor... He make nothing. What he do... is convince pre-humans in Kreide he god. Then, he become god. He cultivate mind, not muscle. That why he rule now. He liar, but lying take wisdom pull off. He has lied to whole world, and nobody know."

I nodded and clenched my fist. 'I will. But not for my sake. For his.'

[STONE BREAK BONE] "..." The caveman smirked at me under the veil of his hair; "Then you have wisdom. You will win. Teach Ludwyhn hard way. He not receive any other way. Stone Break Bone will watch. Stone Break Bone will be here forever watching deeds. This perfect afterlife for Stone Break Bone, who waged the first war against beasts. Goddess will go farther than any other here have."

'Thank you for your words, Stone Break Bone. You, I will remember.'

The caveman put both hands together, like in prayer, and he leaned forward at me once before raising his head again. To him, being remembered is all he wanted, and what he never got because of his foolishness. It took him to the end of his life to finally change his outlook on the world for the better. That I will remember will is as much reward too as the fact he now inhabits the River of Mead, Flaxgard, by Woldor's grace for his successful campaign in destroying the ancient dinosaurs to the last.

What a truly remarkable character, this ancient man.

Bidding him farewell, I returned over to the circle where Ludwyhn waited and rejoined my companions. It seemed Eskart had a taste for drinks after all, despite his initial apprehensiveness. Shennu successfully convinced him to partake, and his favored drink seemed to be gin. Jenk was... rubbing milk on his bones. Wolfboy was drinking plain water.

[WOLFBOY] "What...? Water is the best!"

Right, drinks finished. Blessings bestowed.

I rolled my shoulders and twisted my neck to relax my bodies muscles. Staring over, I saw Ludwyhn had preoccupied himself with a rather meaty leg of turkey waiting on us. Shame we'd have to interrupt his lunch, but this Demigod stood in our way and it was time to show him the irony in his bid to give us a "lesson of humility".

Briefly, I thought back to my struggles won thus far. I thought over those foes I had beaten. The Samurai, the Outlaw Demigod, the Corpse God... and the future Hainei that HEUS embodied itself. That was a truly harrowing struggle, and I like to think Ludwyhn isn't even a fifth as strong as that thing was. It was a truly momentous victory in my life, and it inspired me to only keep going, and racking up more!

Ludwyhn looked over at me as I stood front and center before him in front of these divine taverns. My companions gathered behind me as well...

[LUDWYHN] "Ready now ar'ye?"

I said nothing. I merely raised my hand and beckoned him as my costume shed to reveal my psycho-reactive armor.

[WOLFBOY] "Come on!"

[LUDWYHN] "Aye. And here'ie twer, findin it stuffy enough to dig in. Guess I'll havta sabe my date wit this here leg for later. HAH!" He said, tossing the turkey leg back to its plate and standing up tall.

Ludwyhn merely raised his hand. His spear, Atgorvi, flew into his palm as if obeying him like a master. He pulled the feathered helm he wore back down over his mouth and stepped down in front of us, standing proudly. I heard an ensemble of gjallerhorns aroused all over. The Einheri were watching closely, Woldor was staring down intently from above.

[LUDWYHN] "GODS! Du yew watch me now?! Father! See me! In this Pan-teon's naaaame! I cleihm this vic'try! Gods below! Hear me!"

[LUDWYHN, HERO OF HEROES] "YE SHALL CRAWL THE GROUND BATTERED AFORE MEH! FIGHT NOW!"

When Ludwyhn rose, we were all shocked to see his face! He was brutalized!

[LUDWYHN] "Well..." He spat blood and a tooth; "...that the best ye got?!"

It made sense to me now. He was trying to impress his father. He was a Demigod, and thus he was weaker than I, Shennu and Eskart. But he was strong, and resilient. He was at least Jenk's rival, and he showcased an extraordinary ability to hide his pain and press on through.

As arrogant as he was, it was truly befitting of a hero. He's used this body to stand in the way of evil targeting mortals of Siegesia more than once. He's earned his title as Demigod Hero.

[LUDWYHN] "I'll prove meself... ye'll see! Ye'll all see! Have atye'!"

[Resolve of The Dawn] - Ludwyhn grabbed Atgorvi with both hands and slammed the end of it down into the cobblestone below. He channeled all the might of a hero in its awe inspiring fury and then raised his spear, enveloping us all in a burst of exploding light that made us tremble!

[Atgorvi] - He rushed forward and stabbed Wolfman again!

Ludwyhn was knocked down. He could not get back up. He groaned out.

The Mead River went silent. The cheers and revels of all Einheri watchers dying in an instant. From the side of the arena, I saw Stone Break Bone standing there with a smile on his face. Slowly, they all rise to full height and put down their mugs and tankards.

[EINHERI] "Lord Ludwyhn is beaten..."

[REVELER] "The Demigod of Heroes fell."

All together, the Mythics and Einheri fell to their knees to. They were kneeling out of respect. We had beaten their lord at his strongest in his own personal haven.

[WOLFBOY] "Koff-koff! Did... did we win?"

[JENK] "Aye, lad. And now, we wait to see how ungracefully the pampered tot will take it."

We all stared at Ludwyhn, who used his shield and Atgorvi to prop himself up. He looked up at us all, frowning.

[LUDWYHN] "Khh... A-Aye... that'll be... quite enuff now..."

He tried to stand, but lost his footing and fell to his hands before us, gasping for air as his damaged body bled and teared up from the trauma he'd endured.

[LUDWYHN] "Ya beat me... after all... in me own realm no less... you lot... ya gutter trash gods below...! Beatin me in my OWN realm... rrgghhhh!"

His shaky grip threw down Atgorvi. He couldn't seem to come to terms with the event. Couldn't seem to believe this was possible. He'd been humiliated where he promised only humiliation to us, and now all around that cheered his name were kneeling, to us, his FOES. And on top of that, he'd been swiftly denied a night with me as he lusted for, and the privilege to boss Wolfboy around like a hunting dog.

[LUDWYHN] "What koinda... hero am I?! If aih caehn't even beat'juw... then how will aie protect mortals from their destroyahs...?!"

Ludwyhn looked down and pounded his fist to the floor.

Ludwyhn cracked his eyes at me. Even my companions seemed surprised by how firm I came out with that one. I may have let Majordomo heavily influence it.

Before Ludwyhn could hurl back some kind of rebuttal, or outright refusal to see the error in his choice, I heard an interjection.

[WOLDOR] "She speaks the truth, my son. Today, you were humbled for your foolhardiness indeed."

[EIKN] "But worry not, for you still have impressed our eyes, my cherished son."

...!

Woldor, and his wife. The Great Nannie, Eikn. The centrifugal mother goddess herself. Lady of civilization, and caretaker and lawkeeper of the family. She was a very tall woman, and her head was topped with two horns like Woldor's was. She was an old goddess, a very old one. But she was beautiful, very beautiful and awesome to behold much like her consort.

[LUDWYHN] "M-Ma...? Pa? How could you be proud of this failure?"

[WOLDOR] "Failure is a strong word my son! You have served in the capacity I asked for! There was no finer candidate to test the mettle of the gods below! You faced them bravely, despite knowing the odds were against you."

[EIKN] "We will always be proud of you, son. We asked you to do that which we and you both knew you couldn't, and ever so valiantly you tried. But this is the outcome we wanted exactly. You've proven the pantheon today. So do not let it break you, and your heroic pride. Grow from it. Sprout, my seedling!"

[LUDWYHN] "..." The Demigod sniffled, and wiped his face. He nodded, slowly.

Perhaps he'd been expecting Woldor to pull some strings to knock his stubbornness down with a reality check for a while. He just might not have expected it to be like this. He knew all along he was bound to lose. Any of us gods could have beaten him on our lonesome, but fighting together usually means we fail to bring our full power to bear when focused on cooperating. Still...

[WOLDOR] "There is much for you to learn. Therefor, I have rrrreeached a consensus. My son, I bid you... accompany these warriors and fight alongside them."

[LUDWYHN] "Huh?! You would have me join them...?"

[WOLDOR] "They are fighting outside of our narrow realm every day from the shadows. They are spiting the Dark One, and thwarting the evils of the tyrannical Trinity. In joining them, you would be allowed at last to finally seek out and take the fights you've wished to the enemy head on."

[LUDWYHN] "Ahhh! But... but who will command all armies of the continent?"

[WOLDOR] "That you need not worry over, my son. The struggle to cleanse the calamities will not be achieved in but one or two days! It will be a long campaign, this war the Goddess uniting all fights!"

[EIKN] "We have observed her and her efforts. Twas her altruism that spared Belkinsire a horrid fate. Twas her efforts that have been calming all befuddles of the divine. You would learn much joining these gods on their journey."

Stone Break Bone stepped down to the arena then. Ludwyhn looked over to the caveman of the Kreide.

[STONE BREAK BONE] "Does Lambkin respect Stone Break Bone? Does Lambkin truly heed his advice?"

[LUDWYHN] "What...? Of course! I've... I'll always look up to ye! Ye're the one who slain the dinosaurs! The greatest Einheri of these taverns...!"

[STONE BREAK BONE] "Mmm. Friendship deep. Good. Then heed Stone Break Bone this once. Join, Ludwyhn. Join. Mind Goddess... can show path to wisdom. Can provide... the answer. Mm."

With a grumble, the caveman turned around and sauntered off. Ludwyhn closed his eyes and looked down at Atgorvi. He grasped his spear and stood up on it.

[LUDWYHN] "Goddess from below, Muna..."

He breathed in deep.

[LUDWYHN] "As bitter asiam for ye clockin me own skull in me taverns and hearth, I am compelled to oblige ye this much. On whuteffer perils an' trails ye seek to take, I'll be now accompanyin, whether ye want me tuh or not."

[LUDWYHN] "Any objections?"

'None.'

[LUDWYHN] "Then it's settled. From now on, Atgorvi is at your side."

With the battle over, we were beckoned by Woldor and invited inside the main tavern ahead, where many Mythics were awaiting to raise their glasses in unison upon the sight of us, cheering us on for our victory over Ludwyhn. A great feast at a great round table was prepared. Now we got to rest some before we could take our leave.

[WOLDOR] "CHAMPIOOOONS!" Sang the Wargod, raising a fat goblet nearly spilling with ale; "Your successes have impressed me doubly so! I declare then now you are fit to ascend higher in my World of Mythology! From Flaxgard to Verdigard you shall fly! Grrrreater challenge and reward awaits! HAHAHAHAHA!"

[WOLDOR] "Rest now! And resume this great task when you wish! There is all the time in the world! Mwahaha!"

Woldor drank then, through his visor. We found ourselves drinking once again too. Ludwyhn had retired to elsewhere, going to clean his wounds and repair his godform of the damages we inflicted.

It was then that I was approached by Woldor's wife. Eikn came to me with a big smile on her face.

[EIKN] "Twere rough work you put in on me son."

'I... I'm sorry, I didn't wish to-'

[EIKN] "Nay, nay, nay! Banish it! He has suffered much worse in his obtuseness, the dogged boy! If anything, you have been a big help to we today that I shall not forget to repay, sweetums! Come here!"

Eikn, a very relaxed and easygoing soul, chose to give me a big bear hug for my help in humbling her son. Her hug was enormous like she was! I felt myself lifted off my feet and my breath smothered by her massive... and I feel like something in my back cracked from it before she set me down and I stumbled back.

Giggling, she put her hands together.

[EIKN "Words failed us oft! Now I expect you to take good care of my little honey lamb when he's out traveling with you, dear! Just make sure to reign him in when necessary. You have the permission of his dear old mother! And just one more thing..."

[EIKN] "Don't let my son die, or anything horrid to befall him...."

I visibly shuddered a bit in the face of the Great Mother's goat eye. I nodded slowly.

She immediately closed her eye and resumed her tranquil posture.

[EIKN] "That's all I need to hear, lass! Hehehe! No meaning to intimidate you! It's just that a mother's love can be boundless, especially when her cubs are threatened."

[EIKN] "Now, you've made it to our court. As of your victory over a primary deity in the pantheon, you and all your friends are now technically part of us. Initiate gods. When you reach the Hall of my hunky War daddy, you'll be full members of the Woldorian Pantheon. It will be a great honor, lass! You should be excited! 'When you and Woldor speak of a pantheon, I can only assume it is quite a large one. How many other gods has Woldor rallied to his cause already?' I asked Eikn.

[EIKN] "Quite a lot for a pantheon, all things considered," She said; "-there is my darling sweetheart Demharugh, she is the Fairy Godmother. A Demigoddess she be. Maid of the Houses. She is my personal servant, but I love her with all my heart! Still, even I cannot affirm the riddle behind the Fairy servitude."

'So even you do not know why they are like this...'

[EIKN] "Nay. Lest I had been able to fix it long ago and give back independence to Fairykind. But ever will they restlessly seek masters. They desire to be commanded. I cannot understand it. As easy as I go as far as giving Demharugh tasks, she still yet finds ways to exert herself tirelessly. It's like she has bottomless stamina! Cleaning day and night. Even cleaning spots she'd already cleaned... So, I have only a theory. I believe the Fairies have come to be by embodying man's need for symmetry..."

'Obsessive-compulsive disorder then. You think they embody this aspect of humans.'

[EIKN] "Aye. It's the most sensible outcome I could reach in my bid to understand them, love." She sighed. "Let's not dwell on it."

[EIKN] "Beyond my family and Demharugh, there be Oggthorn, the Hunter Demigod. He of the bows and the brush. He is the teacher of all hunter-gatherers, and a well respected patron amongst Siegesia. He normally teams himself up with our renegade who fled the Trinity, Dite. She is the Angel Demigoddess. She is an enigma, she. And Nio, the Moon God. But you've already met."

[EIKN] "And I cannot forget the sometimes downright nonsensical Igman. He is the God of Secrets, and a spy and aide for my lord and husband Woldor! Although, I would suggest you be wary around him. Now, Warichud, you will like. God of Thunder. He is known as the Captain of Industries, for he seeks to drive and embody the spirit of man's development. He has been an inspiration for Woldorian peoples since inception. He was the one who showed men how to make the steam engine, and then later he gifted them the tesla coil and the knowledge he claims to have been gifted by the Machine God on nuclear physics, which he used to introduce man to nuclear power."

[EIKN] "You will find that to reach the Hall of Woldor, you will face the whole pantheon, dear. I hope you're ready! I myself will be waiting for you... in Canogard!"

I gulped.

She was very forthcoming with that. But I did appreciate this information. The more I learned in these regards, the more I found this world was populated by more gods and demigods than I initially ever thought there was. The Woldorian Pantheon is, unsurprisingly, full of unique and interesting figures. In particular, I was especially curious about this Dite and Warichud...

I wondered how one could be a Demigod of "angels", and more about what Eikn said about Warichud's need to develop. And his claim of witnessing NEGAI...

'Uhm...'

I rubbed the back of my head. Eikn opened her scarlet eyes at me, blinking. I could see the figurative question mark above her head.

'I know this might come as touchy subject but... do you have any idea what happened to Vymla?'

Eikn frowned then.

[EIKN] "Oh... dear me. I haven't got a clue. Nobody has ever been able to figure out who killed Vymla. And how they killed her... felling a goddess herself and forever changing the winters for the worst with her demise. I know only theories for the suspect. Husband thinks NEGAI killed her one thousand years ago at the apex of his rampage across Hainei. I for one think it is the foul play of the Dark One, who is the only one in Hainei known as a "godkiller". On the other hand, some, such as Warichud and Ludwyhn think the Trinity did it. The snake Sarakha has always been known to clamp down on independent gods, fearing his inability to control them. I believe your deeds in Belkinsire may lend credit to the theory..."

'You really think Sarakha could kill her?'

[EIKN] "No doubt, lass. He is the only one I know who is stronger than husband yet. His power comes directly from the Emperor himself. And on top of that... Sarakha's domain has never been discovered. Nobody knows what he is the God of, and thus nobody knows his power. It is mysterious indeed. But they have always called Sarakha the "Incineration of Sin" for his ominous power to destroy sin itself. Burning it away. And sin to that man is simply whatever he defines it as, and then it smolders. Yet at the same time he is not the God of Fire, that would be Garlo of the Trinity, whose flame pales in comparison."

'I see...'

I am frustrated that there is still not even an idea in my grasp about the Primarch's domain. How could I hope to overcome a god whose power was unknown to me? So long as I did not know it, it would be beyond my own reach. I can't touch what goes unseen, what I don't know. Cannot invent countermeasures...

'How could one assume NEGAI did it, however? What do you mean by 'rampage' exactly?'

[EIKN] "Ah... you do not know? After the Millennium Moon crisis one thousand years ago that began the New Eternity, NEGAI's forms attacked every god at once. We in this pantheon fought an ancient foe in one of his forms. We fought Eheyh Asher Ehyeh. It was something I could only describe as... a ring of eyes. All looking at us. All so creepy... bathed in light. Yet, it did not try to kill us. When it had fought us to a standstill, it eventually gave up and then left all of a sudden... But before it did, the Machine God spoke through his body thanked us. That was it."

'Thanked you?'

[EIKN] "The meaning still yet escapes us as well. But the more it fought us, the more powerful it became. We were worried it would surpass Woldor and kill him at the rate it went every time he replied to an attack with greater force than the last. He was disappointed. He wanted to finish that brawl really bad. He's still bitter about it to this day!"

[EIKN] "If you want to know more, I'm afraid I'm dry! Bereft of any additional knowledge, love. None of us knew what the point of the NEGAI crisis was, and what its motives were."

Nevertheless, I thanked Eikn for this valuable information. I could never have enough information ultimately.

[EIKN] "Hmm, hmm! You don't talk about yourself quite a lot, do you Muna?"

'Eh? What do you mean?'

[EIKN] "Aha. Well, you like to ask questions and learn. You don't really spend a whole lot of time telling others about yourself. You like to be mysterious, innit? But, perhaps opening up some more might do you favors, lass."

I tilted my head at her.

[EIKN] "Heh. Well, for one I can tell you don't know a thing about romancing and flirting, now do you?"

'U-Uh... well..."

[EIKN] "Aye, there's no shame in it. I knew from the moment you reacted to Ludwyhn's horndogging, the little scamp. Your reaction told me you've never been hit on before, it was a first wasn't it? Hehe. You got confused. You were cute!"

I blushed and just averted eye contact. She was right, it was not a subject I delved into. Ever...
So naturally I'd react like that when it suddenly comes up! I guess I really am clueless.

[EIKN] "Ah. But don't pay it much heed. No ladies hardly give Ludwyhn the time of day anyhow. I suspect my son won't know what that world is like until he's kicked his habits of stupidity. But you've yet to learn of the joys of romance and family as well yourself... Take my advice, go see Namithene. She's known to prowl the Frostreach sometimes at hideouts to avoid the Trinity. She can teach you all and anything about love. Then, when you're ready, you come back to me. I'll teach you about family!"

'A-Ah, t-thanks for your kind offer... it's all a bit much though, isn't it...?"

[EIKN] "Well lass, you may be a goddess but like me you're not getting any younger! You need to explore your options one day! Trust me! It would bring you lots of joy to start a family up! It's quite rare outside of me and Woldor among divinities!"

Ahuh... I'll keep that in mind.

'So, do you know anything about the Millennium Moon?'

[EIKN] "Ah, of course I do. I lived through it. You don't remember it?"

'...I'm not sure I... actually lived that long myself.'

Eikn opened her red goat-like eyes at me again. She seemed honestly surprised.

[EIKN] "Well, golly, you're a youngun then. Well, me wee Lambkin himself is only about a thousand years by now too. Maybe you were born after it happened. Well, if you don't know much, I can tell you."

Eikn beckoned me over. She led me across the hall of the celebrations and to a throne Ludwyhn had in the tavern hall near the hearth. Above the fireplace, there was an artwork hanging on the wall. It was done in a Shengesian style, oddly enough. It depicted a calm, cold landscape, where above an eerie shape of a flaming sphere hung over.

[EIKN] "The fiery moon. That which was to be the end of the world. It is common to depict it now like this."

'So... it was a literal moon?'

[EIKN] "Aye. One thousand years ago, this moon fell towards Hainei, flaming as it descended through the sky. It was thought to be the end of the world. No prophecy had ever predicted it. It was poised to crash into Kalaheimr, the former realm of Vymla. She was slumbering with Bedolfir on Aflheimr the day and night of the Millennium Moon's arrival. Nobody knows what happened... but there was a great flash of light in the north pole. The Moon was gone, exploded. Then, all the world came to find that Kalaheimr had been shattered. That is why it is the "Shattered North" now."

[EIKN] "The date of the Millennium Moon's near impact is used as the divider for the New Beginning and the New Eternity. The Emperor decided to end the New Beginning on that night and retreated to Heaven, never seen since. Lord Sarakha took over and issued the New Eternity's beginning. That was exactly one thousand years ago following the Emperor's reign of four thousand years. Well, almost, we're at the cusp of the date's change. Soon, it will strike five thousand at new year's eve. With how crazy this year has been, who knows what happens next year on year five thousand."

[EIKN] "Maybe another moon will come. Maybe the New Eternity will end.... Spooky, isn't it? Hehehe!"

'Do you have any idea what the term 'Da'at' means?'

[EIKN] "Nope."

'Ah. Oh. Just wondering. I got called that by the Machine God.'

[EIKN] "But he's dead. Sarakha finished him..."

'...'

Time for a subject change.

'Ah, you and Woldor seem really close to one another.'

[EIKN] "Mm!" She blushed at the mere thought of him; "Love, you have no idea how far the bonds of matrimony stretch for us. Aaaahhh..."

'How did you both meet anyway?'

[EIKN] "Oooh... now that's a long tale, lass. I've not nearly enough time to tell you now. But I will tell you all you need to know. Hmhm!"

[EIKN] "A long time ago, when I was a nascent goddess risen nearly three thousand years ago, I was hardly the goddess I am now back then. I was not the lady of family, not the lady of marriage, or the caretaker of all Siegesian civilization. I was a tribal deity. I was worshiped by then more primitive people, in an age where war was fought only with tooth and nail and whatever could be swung in a hand."

[EIKN] "I was a mother goddess, of course, I was born one from human desires. They desired a mother who would cherish and take care of them so, a great mother to guide them. They gave me sacrifices of many kinds back when I still had yet to kick my knack for them. But, other than that, I was a matriarch. I was worshiped by all females. I was the woman's goddess. Back then, I failed to see the point in a man."

'The point?'

[EIKN] "Aye. The fact that females alone give birth and reproduce... it goes to the head. It was then seen as a certain power. Because the human race could not survive without women, it was only natural lots of them thought females ought to be in charge. Me included. But a female is a creature of emotion, lass. We are drastic beings. In the society I led then, we oppressed the man things. Eventually, we encountered rival tribes and their own deity."

'Woldor.'

[EIKN] "Yes. We locked horns, him and me. But when I first saw him and his gleaming golden mane and beard in person... when we first met to settle our dispute for good... aaah~ It was love at first sight, dear. The way he dominated me and had his way~!"

[JOCO] "Too much information!"

[EIKN] "Well. We proved then and there that day that neither one can exist without the other. Man and woman were put here on this earth together for a reason. We are meant for one another and it shouldn't be any other way. Anything else is a delusion, dearie. Heresy. Man is strong, and he is wise. Woman are meek and plentiful, and they too can be wise. The man shall work and he will provide, and the woman shall raise the child and care of his needs. Together, they will bask in warmth and harmony. This is the way of things. Me and Woldor united, and thus we brought peace to men and women alike.... love... family... it's good."

[EIKN] "You too will discover that someday. You just need to find the right man lass."

'Maybe.'

Woldor and Eikn together were a symbolic union. They represented all the traits and aspects of the male and the female and their instances borne from the human minds. Without them, the human race itself would not work as it does. We would not have formed a standard of normality to guide evolution and life. It is because of them that we have the idea of a "normal life" to begin with, and the pursuit of happiness.

Woldor is a big, burly God of War and Battle. But at the same time, he is a man of dignity and honor. He is polite and humble, a gentle giant. He is the model for masculinity given the perfect form of the male. Like a carved statue underneath his armor, he is the ideal all men subconsciously strive for to achieve.

Eikn is the dutiful mother. The loyal wife. The person content to go to her grave alongside her spouse. Their spousal bond alone is more powerful than many things I've ever seen and witnessed. She cooks his food, she raised his child, she still looks out for him even now when he is grown up for a mother's love should be infinite. She is the perfect female, in a platonic way, the ideal that women wish to achieve in their life.

I find myself never short of being interested in these two. I'm... and this is the first time I admit it, having a lapse in judgment on thinking if there's anything Redeemable about them. I mean, for the obvious case of Woldor's warring, that's something I should look into... but he himself had already said it in his adage. War is in our blood. It is undeniable. So how could I really accuse him of following his nature? He's just stoking the flame that allows him to exist in the first place. Eikn's vengeances may be harsh too... but her motive is not inherently malevolent. She hates divorce... spousal divorce, familial divorce. She gets hurt in her heart every time a family has a falling out and breaks apart. She wishes only to prevent this by targeting the causes. Mostly people. She causes toms and harlots to get castrated, and those who lean towards parricidal and familicidal feelings to find retribution somehow.

I'll have to ponder this more...

[EIKN] "The hour grows late, lass. Are you ready to receive your reward now?"

'My reward?'

[EIKN] "Woldor would have you outfitted appropriately for an up and coming warrioress. Therefor, he devised the Pagan Lottery. All who tread to his hall get to take it. You will draw upon weapons you've earned. In the end, you will find the one that fits your hand best when you reach his hall."

[ FROSTREACH CONTINENT ]

In drastic contrast to the shattered north of Kalaheimr, which was rock and snow, there sat a place that was mostly bereft of life below in the south. The Frostreach Continent, so named for the fact it had never been claimed by anyone. No nation, nor any god. Those who lived there lived at the edge of the shores of ice and embraced a harsh life style. They were governed by none. Though of course, the Trinity still claimed to rule the Frostreach rightfully, as they claimed to rule all things.

It made sense to me then, that the mysterious Goddess of Love, Namithene, would make the shrouded south her go-to destination for operatingin.

I had heard many things about her. She was called the "Rebellious One". A former Trinity deity, now turned against it. She ran insurgencies against it. She made a mess of them in Shengesia to the point that Samurai and Wei now patrolled even the most secluded paths. The Trinity wanted her, and they wanted her got badly. But she evaded them nevertheless, and continues to plague them to this day. Her goals were in the right mind as my own, and so I had to meet her. I had to see this goddess with my own eyes.

I had to see if we might be able to cooperate. So I traveled there, arriving at the stretch of land that reached out closest to Shengesia of the Frostreach Continent. I surveyed igloos and homes of the sedentary humans that lived here, even noticing some Immortals among them. I strut about over tall ice shelves that stood beside the seas.

I had an idea. And it was a risky one, but I called out to her across the Frostreach. I uttered a whisper that would eventually become loud only to deities here. A subtle reverb, in the hopes of meeting her. I sat waiting, choosing to meditate to pass the time.

Eventually, I got my answer.

I heard a loud gunshot ring out in the air a little off from where I was.

Like a blur of light, I sped off to that place in under two seconds, slinging snow in a trail behind me.

The sound had echoed through a slit in the earth. A split between the ice shelves and snowy inclines. I saw a smoking barrel of a revolver held high up at the air, just before the silky gloved fingers wielding it dropped it, caught the handle mid air and twirled it around, sliding the whole thing into the pocket of a baggy pair of pink pants.

In fact, everything about her was pink. From her hair, to her eyes shaped like hearts, and the eminent halo and wings caught in her orbit.

She saw me and smiled. She saw me with both eyes for sure, though she wore an eyepatch, which I could tell was for the aesthetic purpose alone.

[NAMITHENE] "What's your business, stranger?"

'Curiosity.'

[NAMITHENE] "Is that so? Well, what are you so curious about?"

'You, mostly.'

Namithene giggled. The Goddess of Love placed her hand on her hip and stared at me with something of a mix of adoration and amusement herself.

[NAMITHENE] "Well, from one goddess to another, I can assure you, you're probably more interesting than the person you meet. And you'll soon find yourself backed into a corner with these questions being sprayed and prayed if you tarry. But I'll tell you about me. I'm the Goddess of Love, so that's what I do."

'You love everything?'

[NAMITHENE] "Everything that is loved by mortals. But my figure's not just a mishmash of every tidbit. I can keep it under wrap here, but what you see before you now's the true shape of their love. The heartfelt, the lustful and more. I love all mortals because of this. Everyone has something they love. Everyone." She explained. I could feel the heart in her chest throbbing even from here, and the heart shaped iris of hers pulsing the more she looked at me.

For a moment, Namithene closed her one eye and licked her lips. But then, she resumed smiling at me softly.

[NAMITHENE] "However! I can love you too, platonically... if you so wish it. The secret is..."

She looked smug then.

[NAMITHENE] "These ticks are on and off, partner. A lot of the time, I'm drawing on the love men have for brawling and fighting to stick it to the authority for the little man."

Then back to softly smiling.

[NAMITHENE] "You just need to tell me how you want to be loved."

A look of erotic desire.
An expression of tranquil acknowledgement.
A mean, fight ready look.

Ah! I get it now.

Namithene's personality changes on the mode of the love she's channeling! Her personality was malleable. It was almost like having multiple personalities in a way, but changing them didn't change her memories or thought pattern. They were all merged together! This is incredible.

In response, she gave a chummy smile. The kind you give when around your best friends. Even though she had only just met me, she was already eager to be a friend. Though, that was more because of her nature, wasn't it?

[NAMITHENE] "You're no Trinity god far as I can tell, I would have known since I was once part of them. And you're much too pure to be one of the Darkness' bunch. If you're from Woldor's pantheon, that's okay. I sort of got a little mutual understanding with Eikn after all myself. We're both considered Great Mothers."

That's a relief.

The Goddess of Love motioned me over closer. She sat down on the air itself then, crossing her legs, and I followed suit when I stood next to her, levitating myself in my usual meditative position in front of her where we met eyes.

[NAMITHENE] "Hm!"

She reached forward then and poked me between my breasts, just prodding my flesh with her fingertip once. Retracting it, she closed her eyes and rubbed the index and thumb together, pondering for a second flat...

[NAMITHENE] "Mm. I see."

'Ah! You do?'

[NAMITHENE] "Yes. I can tell what it is you love most in this world. The thing you're truly attracted to, that's captured your heart the most."

'What is it?'

[NAMITHENE] "Well, this shouldn't come as a surprise to a Qilin... that is what you are, yes?"

I nodded.

[NAMITHENE] "Your heart is truly in love with beneficence itself."

I blinked, and tilted my head.

[NAMITHENE] "You love goodness, kindness, selflessness... that sort of thing. Anything that is humane and benevolent sends your heart aflutter. Acts of kindness and charity, that's what your spirit resonates most with. You are in love with goodness itself, and you want to become an epitome of it. Outside of your internal factors, this seems to be the root of your desire."

'I want to be good... that's my rule of thumb...'

[NAMITHENE] "And your modus vivendi. You want to be known as a truly good person in a world overflowing with unkindness. You want to spread it, and see others embrace it. You want to see a place all gone so wrong... Redeemed. It is the sheer goodness you exhibit that acts as a natural barrier. It's because of how good you are... you've become like an antibody that can fight the influence of the opposite."

I gasped; "You mean like...'

[NAMITHENE] "Yes. You can sense the taint of the Dark One where others cannot. You can interact with the evil and exorcise it to a degree that I can only say is comparable to that of... the Emperor himself. HEUS is afraid of you. Because your touch alone can make him die out. I saw your memories the moment I read your heart. I saw what harrowing things you've been through..."

Namithene scooted closer to me as I stared at my hands and I felt hers brush against my cheeks.

[NAMITHENE] "You're a good person, Muna. A really good person."

Then, she hugged me and patted my back.

I accepted the hug with some feeling of relief. But also, my heart throbbed with excitement then.
I was really put here on Hainei for a reason after all. I had a purpose, and it was a great one.

True... I've never, uh... never explored love of the romantic or erotic kind... never felt those impulses-

Namithene must have thought it was amusing, because making me speak or think of it was making my cheeks light up madly with a blush.

[NAMITHENE] "Well, I can impart this upon you. Love is an attachment. An emotion, and a connection, all at the same time. Love can be given to anything, and once that connection forms, it's up to the lovers to strengthen it more. Love of guns, love of food, love for a hobby, love for another, love of sex, love of gods... Love is something you should always possess and breed in any structure or formation."

'Is love really that powerful?'

[NAMITHENE] "Love is the strongest thing in this world. There is no force, material or cosmic beyond, that can withstand the abstract oscillation that is LOVE, my dear."

[NAMITHENE] "When you love something that is threatened, you have something to fight for. Love will push you to your limits, and it will help you break them. Love your friends, love your family... figurative or literal. Love your world and love yourself. But also, become loved, and feel the strength empower you."

'You think it'd be good for me to become more loved by mortals?'

[NAMITHENE] "Of course. When mortals love you, as a god, you become something special in their eyes. You become stronger. They do too. Even though the Trinity has done their best to besmirch my name, mortals and Immortals alike even in their heart still love me. Love will never stop. That's why they can't keep me down!"

[NAMITHENE] "Even that mustached old yellow wearing man in Heaven is only as strong as he is because he emulated love, and got a lot back in return! In a way, you too are becoming like me. Goodness and Love can become... synonymous."

Love is amazing then... something almost as big as nature itself, something existing within every form of life. From every mortal to every god. Someone always loves something. Though love can only exist with sentience, it does not stop love from powering through anything else.

In a way, Love was like the concept of concepts. It did not overtake, but mixed. When people who love nature seek to save it, Nature and Love become one. Anyone can draw power from Love. Eikn and Woldor draw power from their love of each other. Bedolfir's rage is amplified to horrific levels through his grief and Love of his deceased bride. But so too is HEUS strengthened by it, for his love of all things that are dark and malicious, as are his followers such as KILLALL, who loves murder above all.

I too can obtain this power. I want to become loved, and to love.

[NAMITHENE] "Hmm, so Eikn suggested you come see me too, it seems. Hehe! Makes sense of her to. You don't really need a lot of advice however. I can give you this alone."

'Huh...?'

[NAMITHENE] "Go searching, and you'll find someone who interests you. When you show interest in a man, he'll become interested in turn."

'O-Oh...!'

[NAMITHENE] "Just let it happen naturally."

[NAMITHENE] "I'll go off on my own, appearing to assist random insurgent groups time to time, but I mostly have to stick around here in the Frostreach. There's also some rebel organization going on down here in the lawless land. But still, I can't afford to concentrate on any group and be connected... leave footprints and what not behind. It lowers my risks of getting caught."

'Ah. Because the Trinity is after you. It does make sense to me.'

[NAMITHENE] "Yes. I've got Thandir's toadie Ecules on my back to worry about, and a particularly nasty servant of Sarakha as well to watch out for... Doreikami, the God of Slavery. Besides them, I've had a run in with Tenbhur before. I think HEUS is out to catch me as well, since I'm not sheltered by any pantheon's roof anymore..."

She really is a rebel goddess then. Always on the run, always watching her back. Sarakha wants her put down, whilst HEUS wants to obtain her. Still, she's holding out just fine. I could tell she purposeful created misleading rumors that would lead anyone on her trail to think she still inhabits Shengesia. A smart move.

[NAMITHENE] "Still, since I know about you now... and yours is basically an insurgency against the Trinity in Siegesia... there's nothing saying I won't stop by and help from time to time. How about that?"

'I couldn't be happier with any other answer.'

[NAMITHENE] "Great! Then it's settled!"

We both let go from the air and stood on our feet again. Namithene reached out and grabbed my hand and held it tightly.

[NAMITHENE] "Allies. Unconventionally!"

'Yeah. Allies.'

In a way, she was on the team now. I'm glad.

Well, I shouldn't keep her. I'm sure she'll get along just fine, but for now, for both of our sake, we decided to end our meeting an split up to avoid drawing a lot of attention.

[NAMITHENE] "Yo."

I turned back at her one more time. She reached into her pocket and pulled out something, which she threw at me. Catching it in my hand, I saw it was a lipstick, just like the one she wore.

[NAMITHENE] "One of my unused spares. I make my own, you know! Trust me, it's much better than anything you'd find even in the Heavenly Capital. Just wear it when you need to. You'll feel a lot more love than usual."

[Returning to the Psyops Bunker...]

(Namithene is a great goddess. I respect her a lot already.)
(But, she will have to be careful in the future. If HEUS manages to make the love man has for evils greater, she may one day be affected by it and change as a result. When the world is feel of love for cheating, stealing, and killing and lying more than it is compassionate loves for good and for others, she would feel it. I have to prevent that from happening.)

I arrived back at the Bunker in the day.

[HALE] "Snff... Snff... You smell like a clothing store on Valentine's Day."

I realize now that the hug made Namithene's powerful perfume smell stick to me.

Another of Yongesia's three economic focal points. When I arrived, I found this place much less welcoming than the Muzan Ward was, and I already found the Muzan Ward to be oppressive and dreary in my first visit to the Sword Continent.

In Shuukai Ward, harsh curfews and martial law was in effect, for the people here were restless from having to meet the daily demands that the Sword Continent called. A shame, given how the place must have looked before the Imperial's took over, before Scheiracht and the Emperor made changes here. Shuukai was a word that meant "gathering". It must had been a place of happiness in the past.

In the past.

This beaten down place could only be described as a vast and sprawling slum, which must have acted as the main center for housing the working populace in Yongesia. This large cityscape. It had so many methods of transport, it's what made sense to me. Methods for ferrying the workers, mortal and Immortal alike, to the other wards and forts to supplicate for the Samurai.

"Keep moving scum." Is what I heard an Ashigaru on patrol say to me in his static voice as I moved through the rain that fell over Shuukai in the warmth of my concealing brown cloak I always kept.

I had searched around for signals of divinity... out of curiosity.

I stopped as I passed some dilapidated wall, looking to my left. There, a stranger in tatters was hoisted in the air, balancing himself that well with a wooden walking stick. He had a pewter rice bowl in his lap. His oily, long black hair obscured his face immediately in these rainy shadows.

He was a homeless bum.

[???] "I have not eaten in over twenty days."
