>What is this?
"The Mystery Dungeons 2e" is a text-based role-playing game created to expand on the setting created by the spinoff series, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. This has no story relation to the first quest, and is its own new story. Players still isekai themselves into the world and become Pokémon, going on adventures with their newfound guild mates! SFW ONLY

A deeper explanation of rules, related pages, and whatnot can be found here:
https://rentry.org/tmd2many_rules

>I'd like to participate!
Currently, we're at full capacity as far as threads on /qst/ are concerned. However, there's always the chance that space for another player may grow in the future, or that you simply wish to play outside of /qst/ and the quests hosted here. There are other ways to participate, about which you can learn and do here: https://matrix.to/#/#the-mystery-dungeons-2nd-edition:matrix.org

>Okay, now what?
After you've read up and familiarized yourself with the rules and setting, be sure to hop into the Element: https://matrix.to/#/#the-mystery-dungeons-2nd-edition:matrix.org. Everything that doesn't involve Main Quests occurs here and is helpful for coordination.

Character sheets and the guide to making them can be found here: https://rentry.org/tmd2many_characters

Rolled 7 (1d8)

When we last left off, the (unnamed) gang hadembarked on an expedition to Glum Grove, a once homey ashy wasteland to check on some wild Pokemon. They'd been found quickly, albeit with a mysterious asassin to boot...

Examination Moderato 2007 - Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdcBGCdyVoY&t

The unseen assailant won't attack if you're watching out, but will move as soon as you try to do...anything. The Froakie, Ludicolo, and Buizel you're helping are looking abnormally sensitive to the state of their rescue, so it may behoove you not to upset them too much. That being said, Froakie's distress is running a lot deeper than the other two's...

And you've been assailed before you even knew there was a fight to have!
Brook and Spike are completely undetectable between the sandstorm, ash, and their illusions, and Evan manages to dive from under a falling tree than has Ishmael pinned down for 12 damage. Everyone but Ish, Evan, Sail, and those immune take 1 sandstorm damage, while Kaz and Ludicolo take 2 damage from poison.
Ludicolo is quite injured (7/20), but he manages to steel his nerves after hearing Sagira's speech. He gets up, ready to offer...a single Protect.

The attacker is still somewhere in the trees, but with all these irritants in the air, it's impossible to see more than a few feet ahead of you. Extra lights in the form of fire are only brightening things, not extending your range...what will you do?
>>
>>5790878
Espurr tries to navigate away from the sandstorm, tugging at Matchia and Skitty before letting go and walking on their own, hoping they'd follow.

Spike is buffeted by the sand, but thankfully his concentration holds. The log he's disguised as rolls over to a nearby nearby tree and under the cover of the sandstorm crawls up it's side into the foliage to look for the target.

Espurr stops to look at Skitty through the sandstorm. It's difficult to communicate, but isn't that the whole reason they joined teams? They continue walking, unless she has a better idea. Espurr doesn't want to get chipped away by sand.

Sagira begins stumbling around, begrudgingly staying in the cover of the storm and wary of the danger of suddenly running into the poisoned spikes. She's hoping to find some kind of tar residue without having to leave the relative safety of the cloud. Her eyes tear up with the irritants of soot and sand...

The Toxic spikes are removed from Kaz and Darius's tree; those outside the cloud of sand won't get pricked. However, Sagira can't find an opening to leave the sandstorm. It's encircled by toxic spikes! The attacker is actively setting them as everyone moves!

>>5790904
>>5790895
>>5790894
>>5790890
Everyone's combined efforts make quick work of Ishmael's trap, though it's not until everyone's attention is on the rabbit that the attack falls. Something cuts through the air, and Brook is slashed across the back by an unknown attack, for 8 Damage! But...there's no dissolving of energy or physical debris, only an uncomfortable liquid spray...just what was that attack?

>>5790889
Kaz, for all his vulnerability...isn't struck. It doesn't want to be revealed. At the same time, he can't make any progress...

>>5790888
Spike, from his unaccounted position sees the attack on Brook as coming from one specific high tree.

>>5790901
Cress is about to step into the spikes, before seeing her charge's demeanor. As for her...

>>5790912
"Hold tight. I have an idea..." Cress tries forming a Pyro ball to roll into the ashy haze, away from anyone to potentially get hit. It's bait!

She also warns the three rescuees to stay in the sand, despite its residual harm.

Wallis stands firmly in Gravity and Sand, then lets loose another Mud Shot, hoping to lower Greninja's speed further!
>>
>>5791110
>Dustin looks on in a confused way.
"It's dead!"
>>

Darius whips his head around wildly, searching for the absent amphibian.

>>5791105
"Hey I'm trying to listen over here! Try taking Spike to the others so you two aren't in the open to attack!"
>>
>>5791118
"He'ss NOT dead! Heaven'ss ssake..."
>>
>>5791124
>Dustin sniffs
"O-okay."

"Tsk...!"
Matchia is looking up.
She's readying a strike with the use of Pound, if it drops...
>>
>>5791128
>Dustin attempts CPR
>>
>>5791132
Dustin's attempts at Spike's body warms it, and he does feel breath and a pulse- it's just slow. Really slow.

>Ishmael, still worried, braces up
>>
>>5791138
"T-there's something!"

>>5791095
Sagira takes the honeycomb and cracks it on the stick, rolling it up around as much as possible. Satisified, she looks to the Greninja and sets it alight before reeling back with a throw.
>Sagira throws the Burning Wooden Sticky Honey Stick at Greninja! Try to flee with this thing stuck to you...
>>
>>5791106
A branch snaps, and Greninja is brought to the ground with 6 damage. Everyone can sense the tumble...

>>5791132
Spike is forced to consciousness, but he's still too injured to move...

>>5791107
>>5791049
11 Damage! Following these attacks, something changes in Grenninja's demeanor, as it looks much more incensed and disoriented. rather than attacking, it's stumbling all over the place. It's essentially down for the count, but...!

>>5791121
Darius alone can make out a vague travel path in its confusion, and a single seed in its inventory!! Watch out, it's up to something...

>>5791149
Sagira remembers to lead her throw at the last moment and catches Greninja feinting into the honeycomb's path! It trips...

"Mom...?!?!" Skipper chokes out.
>>
>>5791155
"Your mother?"
Matchia narrows her eyes.
"Twilight Syndrome."
>>
>>5791155
"...This is awkward... uh..."
>Evan turns to Ishmael
"You okay, man?"
>>
>>5791155
>Switcheroo the seed before she escapes!
"Gotcha!"
>>
>>5791155
>Dustin feeds the Oran Berry to Spike
>>
>>5791155
Spike's eyes crack open. He glances up at Dustin and tries to speak- but his body is stiff, like all the joints and muscles locked up.
Did. . . Did his body just undergo rigor mortis???
>>
>>5791155
Wallis says nothing and stays rooted in place, battle stance included.
"Mother of the 4 seasons... Don't move!"
>>
>>5791155
>>5791159
>Ishmael gives a thumbs up to Evan
"Guess... this is that syndrome we heard about."
>he states, still not in a good shape, but going to pick up that red gummi from earlier propper.
"We should probably get everyone back to town, huh? not sure we can go through the rest of the dungeon"
>>
>>5791155
A successful combat. Skitty has an even damage-dealt to damage-taken ratio, being 0:0.

>>5791158
"...She was really precise, though. Could that illness really do that...? That doesn't make sense."
>>
>>5791165
Spike can't exactly chew the berry, but the juices loosen his joints enough to eat it.
>Spike's HP: 11/20
>>
>>5791155
Espurr falls out of their respective tree limply and hits the ground after the Greninja does, pain in their head greater than that of their body. The weight of Gravity subsides a few moments afterwards, but Espurr is still feeling it tenfold, pressing against their head in every which way.
>>
>>5791168
"Dude, this is like that zombie movie where the zombies were normal dudes but they had pure rage in their system, you know what I mean?"
>>
>>5791170
"Why are you alive again because of a berry?!"
>>
>>5791155
>>5791168
>with the threat seemingly gone, Brook walks back over toward his teammates before sitting on his rear with a sigh of relief

>>5791175
"If they can feel rage would they really be zombies in that case?"
>>
>>5791175
"yeah, I think I know?"
>ish has no fucking idea what Evan is on about

"It appears the situation is changing," Sagira mutters.

>>5791149
Matchia calls out to Sagira.
"Good going, that was great!"
>>5791169
"Insanity doesn't always make someone clumsy and unorderly."
Matchia says simply.
>>
>>5791178
>>5791175
"What's a zombie? Is that a pokemon?"
>>
>>5791178
"No, everyone just calls 'em zombies cuz they acted like it. They were living people, just zombie-like."
>>5791179
"You never saw it, did you?"
>>5791184
"No, it's a human... myth... thing. Not sure if I should describe it with kids around."
>>
>>5791177
"I. . . Just. . . fainted. . ." Spike manages, his words stiff and loose, his jaw is regaining function as his joints begin to bend again.
>>
>>5791172
Orner is apparently the first to notice the Espurr in pain. "Guyss, the sstray iss having a meltdown!"
She offers a leaf to them.
>>
>>5791181
"I'm not saying it's not possible, but there's just no precedent," she responds. "That's not normal by any standard."

Kath stays behind, curious about the new development (Vibes)
>>
>>5791169
"She coulda' just been that good at fightin' before she got sick. Doesn't have to be the sickness doin' it."
>>
>>5791191
Matchia huffs.
"Maybe so, but I doubt there's any other reasonable explanation. Why else would she be so aggressive like that?"
It's clear the idea of berserk Pokemon has stuck quite well in her mind.
>>
Spike rolls onto his legs, finally shaking off the stiffness and limping towards the trio. "Are you three alright?" He asks, looking at the Ludicolo in particular.
>>
>>5791184
"I... well I think it's like a body come back to life without it's spirit?"

>>5791188
"I see... well I hope we don't encounter more anytime soon we barely made it out of this one."

>>5791189
"You doing alright there, Spike?"
>Brook calls out
>>
>>5791201
"Well there's that, and we fought a fully evolved mother today so... yeah. We'd better train up in a big damn hurry if this is gonna get any worse."
>>
>>5791188
"Ah, human stuff. You'll have to tell me about it later!"
>>
>>5791181
"It was an optimal throw, despite the best efforts for my biology to restrict me. However, my success and this victory has been... dampened." She looks at the huddled group. "This will be another arduous journey back to the town."

Sagira shakes her head and sand falls out. "I am also now in dire need of a bath," she scowls.
>>
>>5791188
>Ish thinks, then decides honesty is the best policy
"I don't think that movie came out in my world, dude. but either way, we gotta be ready."
>>5791167
>>5791201
"now then, hope that's all. first round is on me once we-"
>ish briefly loses balance, still reeling from the fucking tree
"...first round's on me. hope this pays well."
>>
>>5791164
Orner catches the seed just as she reaches to spike it into the ground in front of her. It's a Blast Seed.

>>5791167
>>5791169
As much as one can tell that none of her basic swats are strong enough to hurt anymore, and she can't get up, she's still going for them. She was silent before, but is now too disoriented not to give off a few hisses. Most of the swings are in the direction of Brook, Kaz, Ludicolo, and Surface Skipper, the most injured...

But much like before anyone was found, the ferals no longer fit for this forest environment are steering well clear of you fighting belligerents.
Cress leaves the children to see to Kaz's physical well being, but she doesn't have any items on her...

Ludicolo sighs, some of the bravery afforded to him by Sagira leaving. He brings his bring down over his view of his Froakie friend. "It was hard enough after eating those poison shrooms...why this...? That's gonna happen to us?!"

>>5791202
>>5791201
>>5791195
>>5791180
>>5791168
>>5791169
"These Pokemon haven't moved that much since we last saw them. That means a source of the illness could still be nearby. If we're going to backtrack through town to escort them, we need to do it fast and without interacting with anything.

>>5791172
"That makes twice you've made a falling hazard of yourself." Not an 'are you okay' or anything, just an observation.
>>
>>5791201
"She got me bad with those Night Slashes," he shivers, holding his side, "but I'm fine. Body's just stiff. . ."

>>5791216
"Let's not worry. We need to get back to safety before while we can," he suggests.
>>
>>5791196
"I–I mean, she was attacking her own child like that... I guess that's the best explanation we have. She's still going..."

>>5791210
Skitty frowns more deeply as she's reminded of the ash and sand on her. "Definitely."

>>5791216
"Is that even how it works in dungeons, is there a real route to backtrack on?" she immediately asks. "Do you know?"
>>
>>5791210
"Yeah, you said it. I think at this rate I might as well just paint my scales gray if we're gonna keep coming out here."
>>5791214
"Oh. Right, right, I keep forgetting there's more than one world. It's a weird thought though, right?"
>>5791216
"That's more than okay to me, we ain't gonna make it through much more at this point anyway. Let's get outta here."
>>
>>5791216
"Alright, that's probably a good idea."
Darius walks over to the fallen greninja, awkwardly draping her over his back.
"Anythin' left before we go?"
>>
>>5791216
"Go fast, got it."
>ish heads over to the ludicodo, getting behind him and gesturing for help
"Think Buizel and Froakie can move without as much help, but don't think you'll be able to do it from that... toxin."
>>5791224
"Certainly is odd to think about, we can discuss it later."
>>
>>5791216
"So letss jusst trace back our sstepss! Ssomeone pick up Kaz, quick!"
>>5791220
"Can you make the walk back? Nevermind, ssomeone pick thiss dudde too!"
>>
>>5791202
"Admittedly I don't train as much as I probably should. I get beat up enough in the dungeons, no need to also get beat up outside of them"

>>5791214
>Seeing Ish nearly collapse, Brook offers him a shoulder
"Here just uhh try to be gentle, my back is still sore"
>he grimaces a little in pain
>>
>>5791229
>Ish appreciates the help!
"Will do, don't worry."
>>
>>5791221
>>5791210
Matchia shrugs.
"You should get used to getting dirty in fights."
>>5791228
"I'll do that."
Matchia picks up Kaz's body under an arm.
>>5791220
"Need help?"
>>
>>5791229
"Train attack then, simple enough."
>>5791232
"I'd offer to help you walk, but I don't wanna catch on fire. Not to uh... not to say you WOULD set me on fire, but I am covered in ash and dust at the moment."
>>
>>5791220
"I'm glad to see you walking around, jumping straight at it was crazy!"

"Think you can walk on your own? I'd lend you my shoulder but...it's kinda occupied."
>He says motioning towards Ish
>>
>>5791234
Spike nods towards the Ludicolo and Greninja. "With them, sure. A beating seems to fix the syndrome, so pick one and let's get out."
>>
>>5791214
>>5791216
>>5791235
>>5791238
"I can't help you walk, either."
Wallis hesitates. She can't jeopardize her chance to learn more about Twilight Syndrome. She eases up in spite of Orner grabbing the Blast Seed.
"I I'll be hitting the bathhouse instead of the bar after this soot. And... that."
She inspects the Greninja closely, hoping something about observing Twilight Syndrome will trigger lost memories. However, nothing's coming up...
>>
>>5791221
>>5791224
"The Ravine-" she refuses to call it by its full name, "spat us out at a stream perpendicular to the direction of the one we left the dungeon tracing, so...I don't know. If this dungeon stays as quiet as it was on our way in, going through twice would be safer and faster than trying to backtrack anyway, though..."
>>5791225
"be sure we get her to the elder first, and let us know if she starts to wake."

Clover Force, Team Stylish, Stardust, Gildscales, and Ruckus retreat back home with their 3.5 rescues in tow to free themselves of the dour mood. Only so much can be said for Surface Skipper, though...

Harrowing! Why don't you take 25 Exp and 40 rank points for your assistance! We'll rush for that second job request...later!
>>
>>5791234
"I was already well acquainted to things worse than 'getting dirty.' But, I had outer layers to protect me from the elements. Can I assume you prefer performing daily activities wearing improper attire?" Sagira asks, sarcastically. She continues. "Do not answer that. I already know the only correct response. Do not indulge me with anything else."
>>
>>5791244
Matchia makes a face at the 'I already know the only correct response.'
"Oi, t-shirts and shorts are perfectly fine wear in most situations..."
>>
Well. Given finite time to gather and play, as well as things to do in a single quest, there is also finite space for players to join as they will. However, it appears Swellow anon won't be joining us. That is to say, we've got a spot open for another player to add to our ranks. Any takers?

You feel as if you’re floating endlessly in a sea of emotions, dreams, and ideas. A realm of pure thought embraces your very being. Wherever you are now, it’s nowhere you’ve been before. Or… nowhere you’ve been before while consciously aware. Something within you tells you that this is familiar. A place you’ve seen before, but not quite grasped fully.

Like a word on the tip of your tongue.

Words echo in your head, bouncing around like noise crashing down a tunnel. Your head aches. Reflexively, your body moves to react. Clutch your head in pain? Wince? Look for the cause? Nothing happens. There is no form for you here. You are something else.

As you wonder and touch upon the idea of being without form, the crashing noise subsides as it hits a soft wool. You see a shape. And you hear a voice.

"I'm happy that we have the chance to meet again, under better circumstances now. Let your hearts be calmed, there is no danger here to be concerned of. At least, not at this very moment.” She pauses, looking mournfully hesitant. “I would say to speak freely, but our state of affairs leaves me with little room to maneuver.”

"I apologize my initial meeting had been turbulent, and my follow-up less so. It was not my intention to leave so abruptly and without warning. I am here now, though. I hope that is reassuring." Her flowing dress folds as she sits. “Our connection is stable, but it is taxing. If you have questions to ask, please consider your words before speaking. I surmise I can only support six before… a possibility of retribution.”

Chapter 4: Watcher's Reverie

You're all here in this weird dream world! But you are armed with (six, to be precise) a limited amount of questions to quell your parched curiosity. Discuss and try to make the most of it.

>>5795717
"Firssst of all, who the hell are you?!" Orner takes the initiative, straight to the point.
>>
>>5795717
>Kaz directs his thought? to the others in his group first
"We gotta ask her how ta get back home. Whoever she is. Sounds like she knows somethin'."
>>
>>5795717
>>5795723
"Honestly, good question there. who exactly are you?"
>>
>>5795717
>>5795723
>>5795725
"Guess we're just goin' fer questions..."

>Kaz directs his voice to the mysterious figure
"You know how we can get back home? Ta' each of our homes, I mean."
>>
>>5795717
>Evan talks to the group
"D'you think a good question would be why we're here?"
>>
>>5795728
"How about askin' why our memories are screwy?"
>>
>>5795728
"Probably yeah, although I doubt we'd get a straight answer."
>Brook pauses for a moment
"I'm curious as to why we got changed into the forms we did, but there's more important things to ask I suppose."
>>
>>5795717
>>5795728
"Why are we here? Like, as Pokémon?
>>
"Hmm," Angus gives a bit of thought, "this place... feels familiar, but I can't pinpoint where..." he then shakes his head. "Anyways, we are here for a purpose; is that correct? What is that purpose?"
>>
>>5795728
>>5795734
>ishmael nods to the pair
"good idea on asking it, might lead to a clue on getting back home, for those that want to go."
>>
>>5795717
>In his disembodied form, Spike tries to collect himself and make the most of the chances provided.
"What are we here to do?"
>>
>>5795717
"You know why we're here, right?"
"Then you gotta know why I can't remember anything, right? At least something, right?"
>>
A new voice sounds out.

"I have no idea where I am or what's going on, but hey, wouldn't be the first time that happened today. Who are the rest of these people?"
>>
>>5795740
>Ishmael can feel Kaz's presence giving him a look
"Or we could just ask, like I did."
>>
Rolled 12 (1d20)

>>5795717
"Hi"
Kath uses no questions, she vibes
>>
>>5795744
"Who the heck is this?"
>Kaz attempts to look for the source of the new voice to no avail

"Who are you?"
>Kaz asks more directly
>>
>>5795748
"Fair, both questions may have the same result though."
>>5795744
>ishmael waves at the large dragon, given the guy towers over most the party
>>
>>5795717
>Sail stare at the glowie dreamer abyss
'Dam'n a Fey.' Sail mumble to himself
>>
>>5795717
>After waiting it seems nobody else plans to ask the final question, so after some thought Brook speaks up
"Is there anything we should be careful to avoid?"
>>
>>5795737
>>5795717
(fug I forgot to put reply)
>>
>>5795753
>Mohka attempts to to pinpoint the source of the question, also to no avail - hard to pick out which blurry shape it might have come from.
"Hey, I asked first, buddy, you answer."

>>5795756
>Mohka looks down at ishmael's blurry form.
"At least you I recognize; what's up?"
>>
>>5795717
>>5795744
>>5795768
Wallis is as still as a statue, formless. She bears an expression of scorn at the mind invader being a repeat offender, but says nothing else. Her attention shifts to the large dragon, a new presence, but not for long. The questions are more important.
>>
>>5795768
"Hell if I know bud. I'm just as confused at what's happening as you are."
>>
>>5795768
"Hmph! Alright, fair. But you better answer next!"
"I'm Kaz."
>The grey, white, and beige blur responds
>>
>>5795773
>Mohka looks to the the grey, white, and beige blur
"Nice to meet you Kaz, I'm Mohka. So what brings you here?
>>
>>5795779
"Mocha? Like a coffee? Weird name."
"You'll fit right in!"
"And wish I could tell ya. Seems like we usually get spoken to by weird voices."

>The blur waves, as if indicating the current space
"This place is new though."
>>
>>5795783
"Thanks... I think."
"This has happened before, in a different place? I wouldn't know, I'm new here. This is my first trip to dreamland."
>Mohka shrugged.
>>
>>5795723
>>5795725
"Please, try not to talk all at once. Similar thoughts are easier to resonate together... but too many diverging ideas can cause chaos." She raises her hands up, softly telling you all to slow down. "Please keep that in mind. I am here to look over all of you, a part of my duty and responsibility. I would be a vessel of sorts. A conduit for all things alive."

>>5795727
She closes her eyes, taking a deep breath. You're not sure there's even air here to breathe, but you're not exactly well inundated with the mystical and arcane. "There is no one simple answer to your question, I'm afraid. When you arrived here, you were changed. An agreement, or a contract, if you might perceive it that way. You and all the others here have a duty, one that hasn't quite solidified quite yet. A deep danger lurks above, seeking to undo the fabric of peace and life. Once you have fulfilled it, home will be closer to you."

A flash of darkness races across your vision. A primal sense of fear floods into your heart. "I hope that did not frighten you. It is not my intention to scare you. But it would be wrong to not warn you. They know we are working against them. I have done my best to shield you, but my strength is limited to the spiritual world. Please, be careful in your waking one."

>>5795736
>>5795737
>>5795741
"I cannot fault you all for being excited. A chance of knowing is enticing, but please, heed my warning." Gardevoir nods her head. "You are all part of a destiny now, or one that has been laid before you. There are no guarantees, but there is tension in the fabric. One right pull can alter it for good. Or one wrong tug might untangle all that holds it together. A great evil is rising that you have answered the call to strike down."

"We are at a critical point in Life. There is a shifting. A hidden stirring in the heart of the world. I cannot place my mind on what it is exactly, but know it is why I have called for your aid. I know your burgeoning strength will be pivotal to this coming disaster. All I may ask for is patience." She closes her eyes. "I fear for what may come should we play into their grasp. What disaster might unfold if we reveal ourselves too early. They are plotting in the impenetrable shadows, looking to drive a deep schism into the world. If this is all discovered too soon, perhaps that schism may be driven between all of you."

"I know it is not much to work with. And I cannot apologize profusely enough for not knowing more to give to all of you. To bestow you the protection of awareness is a boon that is beyond my own reach. A misstep in this formative hour may draw their attention. Speculation is not a luxury we have to squander."
>>
>>5795788
"Well, coulda' used more, but thanks fer the warning lady!"

>Kaz speaks to the rest
"Looks like we got a bad guy ta stomp."
>>
>>5795788
Angus nods, "I see... but 'tis odd that you have to be vague about it despite it being really important..."

>>5795787
"Oh! I don't believe I've heard your voice before... Mohka is it? Nice to me... no, hear ya! The name's Angus."
>>
>>5795788
"Huh. Never took myself for some hero or something. I mean, I'm a freakin' accountant, not some secret agent or scientist or something."
>>
>>5795788
>>5795793
>ish nods
"yeah! this feels like some kinda anime. guess we gotta get training then!"
>>5795799
"We all gotta be here for some reason Evan. you gotta have some skill that'll be essential to the mission."
>>
>>5795788
Wallis remains eerily still. She listens intently all the same.
>>
>>5795798
"Angus? I can see enough of your form. You are named after beef, but you are clearly poultry. Why?
>>
>>5795800
>Evan shrugs
"Unless the secret society or whatever is being a dick 'cuz they can't fill out their tax forms, I doubt it."
>>
>>5795743
"Calling for help from beyond has its effects. It does not discriminate. It is wild, untameable, unruly. There is good chance that it took something from you that I could not protect you from, little one. I am... sorry. I know my words at this moment might mean very little to you, but comfort is all I can give."

>>5795760
Her eyes are closed, looking strained. "Remember the thought I shared with you and hold it tight. Held close to your mind and heart, you will know when they are near. Run and do not let them find you. I do not know what shape or form the Seeker takes, but they are persistent and guileful. Any opportunity they will take and exploit with feverish enthusiasm."

Gardevoir stands up, hands held together, head bowed. "Our chance to speak as free as we can is closing. One last question. After that, I cannot guarantee anything."
>One last question and one last real answer!

>>5795798
"I do not want to be." An echo around your mind bounces again.

>>5795799
"It is there, but it must be nurtured." Her voice is sounding less coherent.
>>
>>5795800
"The heck is an Annie-May?"
>>
>>5795805
In stillness, Wallis does not respond.
>>
>Dustin finally awakens after his extensional crisis.
>He's obviously not speaking to the Gardevoir.
"Where am I?"
>>
>>5795809
"japanese cartoons, like evangelion."
>>5795804
"maybe they need someone to help manage the team's budget? or the inherent knowledge you have on pokemon being valued"
>>
Spike is absorbing all of this information and trying to piece it all together. . . It puts things into a new perspective.
>>
>>5795805
Matchia speaks up, seeing her time to ask is soon to be over.
"...Were we all brought here after perishing?"
>>
>>5795805
>Brook nods but doesn't respond, allowing anyone else to make use of the final question
>>
>>5795803
Angus was taken back from the comment, "W-well, I'm neither of those! I know that it's my name and I was human—I didn't chose to be a bird!" he then squeaks.

>>5795805
"Hmph," Angus turns his head annoyingly, "gonna keep it a surprise, huh? I see how it is."
>>
>>5795813
>Kaz turns to the blur he thinks is Evan
"What?? Evan is in on this? I thought he was an accountant!"
>>
>>5795818
"I am! I dunno why I'm here!"
>>

For the longest time, she remains silent. For a second, a clawing feeling within you tells that might've been too much. However, Gardevoir finally breaks the quiet with her voice. "I cannot comment upon the circumstances prior to our very first meeting. It would only leave me with speculations." She raises her hand, gracefully pacing to where Matchia is standing. Her fingers lay itself roughly where the heart would be. "The soul is a powerful thing. Resilient beyond any measure. The container will fade to nothing before it shows any signs of faltering. I still do not see anything wrong with them now. Take solace in that."

"Only you know your circumstances." She backs off, eyes closed. "I am sorry I could not provide a better answer."

"The hour draws closer. It does not mean I have to leave just yet." She smiles. "And I have something for all of you. Please, hold still now, and clear any worry. This will make it easier."

She continues to speak, however, each of her words slow down when she notices a lack of response. Her eyes widen and she spins around, immediately throwing her hands to her sides and raising it up. Pink energy envelops the area.

The calming green dreamspace flashes into a violent wash of colors.

"...ayed -oo lo-... -ound us!" Words crash and fizzle, a twisting, wrenching sensation of noise. "...un! You..." She's shouting but you can't hear her. The static is growing louder. "RUN!" she screams.

The cracks grow wider and wider until it cannot handle anymore. The walls of the dreamspace shatter and it floods through, smashing against the psychic barrier like an angry wall of hatred.

"-ou... ake up! WAKE UP!" Gardevoir shouts again, her voice now drowning against the tide of buzzing darkness.

That Gardevoir, for all the troubling news she’d brought, offers a welcome gift in the form of a full recovery. You need it, for the second job request Cress had taken comes from the Salamence whose ship had been stolen on you first sight in town. He’s sent everyone to intercept the thieves, Turning Trails and a band of Sprigatito at a black sand beach…a whole day’s travel and then some south of Baram Town. Not too long after the battering from that violent Greninja, either.

You might find yourself a tad weary from the long by the time you hit the the point Salamence had described; it’s pretty hot and dry for a beach. The sand and stone underneath your feet is coarse and black as fresh asphalt, shifting and clumping together on its own…

It’s when a familiar boat crosses into view on the shore that Cress explains why Salamence knows it’d have been found here to those unaware.

“…A personal treasure of our client’s was in the captain’s quarters of the ship the night it was stolen-a compass that pointed to a few specific locations on Air Continent. After the theft, one of them was robbed. Our client believes that the others are likely to be targeted, and the cave on this beachfront is one of them.”

She turns around. “It should be noted that our only objective is to recover the stolen belongings and ship; there’s no need to confront the thieves if they’re inside and looting.

So…how’re we going about this?
>let’s get that ship. We can’t risk the mission, someone’s counting on us!
>Into the cave! What’re those cat Pokemon up to?
>Somewhere else? You’ll have to justify that play…

Cress crosses her arms and notes, “This is only our second mission as a group, and will be opposing a whole crew. We won’t have the numbers or experience to split up, so that’s not happening.”
>>
>>5799346
Skitty is carefully picking along near the back of the group, still looking a little out of it after her experience. She's also looking guarded, though.

>Let's get that ship. We can't risk the mission, someone's counting on us!

"...Let's just steal the boat back. Worst case they realize what's happening and we end up fighting them anyway." She's curious about her fellow cats, and interested in the bonus reward, but in the end the faster way out is more appealing. That's a bit of an abnormal take from her...

Cress considers the discourse and counts the votes.
"If all it took to win a battle was type matchups, any six year old with a team of two could be a Pokemon champion. Don't assume these Pokemon aren't threats..."

Complete dedication to the mission it is. Cress's expression softens a little, no longer needing to juggle objectives.

You all approach from the direction of the bow, ever so slightly decreasing the chance you're seen before you can try and board. That being said, it's too tall to jump up there, even with the boat being beached. How are you to board? The anchor is down, but it's in the water...

Orner can fully stretch and get just enough height on Mohka's back to grapple the ledge and pull herself up. There's some spare rope nearby a Kommo-o might want to get up themselves, but you could also use yourself for that, if you aren't lame.

For those aboard the ship, there are plenty of Sprigatito just playing around. Some of them wave at and greet Angus, others are playing leapfrog with eachother and falling off eachother's backs...? One in particular is just grooving to the jaunty tune, swaying his head and tail back and forth like a metronome.
One in particular is trying to help Skitty board. Another is dancing on top of the crank controlling the anchor. One might assume he's trying to lift it, but his stomps and steps are too light to really move it. That one just falls and tumbles onto the floor.

Off in the distance, there are a few breaks where the cave has collapsed, leaving the inside partially visible from above. You can just barely spot movement from your faraway range, headed deeper inward. It looks like you have time before anyone returns with whatever they came for.

The water kind of tingles at the point your flames emerge, but that's the extent of your discomfort. It's exacerbated by how heavy this rope is, so you may want to get going-even with a little bubble of water forming itself over the dying flame as intended.

But more to your point, the failing flame has stopped moving completely.

You notice that Some of the cats have different...vibes about them. Some of them are more poised, some of them frolic almost weightlessly, some have wilder foliage growing from their necks...

Hardly. It's a good thing the boat is still so close to shore, sculling isn't your strength.

Seeing the burst of light and...some other substance, Ish and Wallis can make out that the rest of the hall is loaded to excess and then some in these tripwires. The explosion bursts the flower at the end of the hall...
spraying yet more of them all over the path towards it and the door. Topping the strange show off is a single seed falling exactly where the flower used to lie, sprouting another one in its place. Her coat returns to the dusty texture of the grounded ones on the deck. Immediately, she collapses to the floor with a weighty thud. "The beach'll pull ya right in! Water softens the impact on the wall(i)s, setting off just as many tripwires as Ish's Ember. Annoyingly enough, the bulb endures long enough to spew another seed, though the flames and current blow it out of position before it can bloom properly. The web of strings is reset, though with the flower facing the wrong way, it's now sealing off the other end of the hallway. Looking at its underside, you can actually see that the tripwires are really the flower's stem. And with the trap set up in a different direction, you can see more of those bulbous flower bombs lining the walls of the hallway-now in the direction you aren't coming from. Door's clear!

>>5799912
The old bug sighs. "I told you I'm a treasure hunter, haven't I? Of course a thief would know about his loot! It's a sour reunion, this one. I'm sure you're all swell Pokemon, but I wasn't supposed to see any of you ever again! Ohohohohhh! Tell you what, you'll find everything you need to know about a crew looking for the Ultimate Treasure-if you're unfortunate enough to cross paths with us again. Be safe and stay away us, hmm, chap? Hohohoho..."

As he bids you away, you're suddenly treated to a taste of why he's called Turning Trails. Before you realize, you're forced to look upwards to match gazes with him- and fly just to stay in place?! An invisible force is dragging yyou backwards through the cave, as if you're falling sideways! Just as you're wrapping your head around it, a web of silk from the old mon ensnares and drops you through the path, flinging youbackward out the entrance until you fall out of range of the warped gravity and in front of the stolen ship. Your last sight before you're thrown is the bemused glare of a masked cat hovering in midair over his shoulder, a roll of paper in its hands.

>>5803489
The cats all nod sagely, as if they've never been more sure of anything in their lives. Even though-
"Sure thing, new Sprig we've never seen before! Ready, bros? Sisses? It's time for the chore-doing of a lifetiiiime!!" The first one to follow Brook wails, falling backward over itself. The cats cheer. They drop their belongings, an orange gummi, a pink gummi, a smooth looking rod with a disc embedded, and a Heal seed on top of Brook.

Meanwhile, on the deck battle...

Mohka's protect insulates his mind from the uncanny mewling of the Sprigatito on his back.
The sinister pair both go for Bites into Matchia, while the Frizzy Sprig waves a rod in its mouth. It glows a bright yellow, and a wave of electricity shoots out towards Sagira!
The final Sprig, a lumbering dusty one waves a similar stick stuck in its mouth, conjuring a stone from thin air. It's falling towards Evan...
>>
The Bites both connect for 7 Dark damage into Matchia, one flinching.
The Thunder Wave washes over Sagira, paralyzing her rather than doing damage.
Evan is struck by a Smack Down for 7 Rock damage.

Your move, team.
