In the 41st Millenium, there is only war. In this grim dark future, brother turns against brother, son against father, daughter against mother. For most, there is no one to trust, no one to turn to. Even amongst those whom you would place all your faith, there is always but a niggling suspicion that they are the one who will cut you down. For most in this dark future, there is little room for anything else other than the vicious struggle for survival. And even for those fortunate few who have the time and resources to turn their attentions to better things, almost all focus on the betterment of their station and their prestige rather than anything that would help mankind as a whole, and even among those fortunate few, there are those who turn their attentions to much darker things still. It is in this world that Kvar finds himself, and only time and the grace of God will tell whether his efforts bear fruit, or simply a bitter reckoning…

KVAR QUICKHANDS

You feel her hands, tugging, pulling, groping all over you. And you want her to continue, oh yes, you do. But… Something makes you take her hands in yours, to will her to calm down and look you in your eyes. What she sees there makes her grin evaporate, and as you open your mouth to speak, it almost feels like something is speaking through you. “Marella… I love you. Will you marry me?”

For once, she is left speechless, her mouth opening and closing with only slight wheezes coming out, her eyes scanning yours, seeming to bore deeply into you. Finally she rolls off of you, and huffs. “Heh,” she sighs, “Never thought somebody’d ask me that. Well… What do you think, you bleddy fool?” And as she turns her head to look at you, a small smile lights up her face. “Of course I will. I’d have no other than you, and the feeling better damn well be mutual!” And then she's on you again, although all she does is plant a small kiss on your lips, before getting up and lifting you to your feet.

You both understand that soon you will both get what your bodies crave, that final act of passion that ties two souls together, if only for a short while. But only after you are wedded, only when God approves of the union. You say very little as you walk, but you feel a nervey kind of energy suffusing you. You’re not sure what made you propose like that, but you’re glad you did. And based on how tightly Marella is gripping your hand, you think she shares in your enthusiasm. Before long, you’re back at your Temple gates, and soon you both part, with a promise on each other's lips that soon you will be more than jilly lovers tussling on the floor, but a truly holy pairing, husband and wife. Soon…

Still, there is plenty to do in the meantime, and some work to be done to make the wedding one worth remembering, but you know that God is with you all the same, no matter what you do.

>You now have 25 church faithful, 1 church devout, and 6 church fanatics. You also have 6 months of food left, 12 units of metal scrap, 3 units of lumber, a Pilgrims Temple as well as 220 units of the energizing blue fruit, and 20 Thrones.
>>
>Spend some time getting the church ready for the wedding. You’re not sure if Marella is the type to care for something as frivolous as a fancy wedding, but you want to give it to her all the same. And honestly, you want it to feel special to you, as well.

>Do some scouting on the kidnappers potential base. You’re not planning anything major, at least not without a proper strike force, but it would be good to see what you’re working with when the time eventually comes to rid the underhive of this scourge.

>Along with your weekly soup kitchen, set up a donation box large enough to take scrap as well as thrones. While it pains you to turn an act of charity into something base, even you must admit that you’re going to need the resources, as you never know what may happen, especially down in the underhive.

Is it really base? The bible is filled with words about the rightfulness of donation.
As long as we keep it something that is done willingly, and don't start preaching about how donating means that you will be payed back a thousand fold or that it guarantees a place in heaven, we won't be selling the faith, merely giving a chance for people to help us help others.

Correct Anon - 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."

The thought of Kvar selling indulgences is funny though.

Welcome back, QM!

And I'll say we should've done this sooner. I don't want to be greedy, of course, but we do have our own church and flock to look after as well. We need to provide for them too. Much as we wish otherwise, we can't get by on goodwill alone. Especially in the Underhive.

After you sober up, and with an almost unbearable hangover, you decide to have your congregation build a donation box in front of the Temple, so that those with the inclination can donate either scrap or Thrones in appreciation to your efforts to help the local area. To your surprise, the response is immediate and gratifying. While most have little more than bits of scrap they’ve scavenged, it certainly helps to save you and yours the effort of having to scavenge it yourself, and you think that by the end of the week you’ll have a decent pile of gifts from those who make use of your soup kitchen.

>Your Temple now receives a weekly donation of 10 metal scrap, 10 lumber and 10 Thrones, which should be gathered up every other update or so.

The work to build the box goes by remarkably quickly, with so many helping hands it seems that any task that would have taken days or weeks now goes by in a matter of hours. And your efforts to improve the area around you seems to be bearing fruit, as the number of hopefuls who gather around your Temple, praying to be made into members seems to grow by the day. While it’s not yet at the scale it was right after you threw your feast, it is nothing to sneeze at either. About 10 people have made the alleys and burned out ruins around your Temple their temporary home, each one entreating upon you to be allowed within your Cult.

But before you can decide on what to do with these hopefuls, Seth Orson comes back from his weekly trip to the market, banging on the gate and shouting. When it’s opened, you see that the young lad is clearly out of breath, wild eyed and panting, and after you tell him to calm down and catch his wind, he speaks through his gasps that the market in the old cistern is under attack! His fear seems to be infectious, as you feel a cold spike of anxiety fill your chest and make your hands tremble, ever so slightly. He says “T-t-there's a lot of em! Just grabbing folk left and right, screaming and pointing stubbers and lasguns at em! I think… I t-think they’ve even shot a couple of people! What should we do, Kvar?”

This could be bad… You could go and get Marella, to bolster your numbers before you charge in, but the amount of time it would take to rouse her people might waste precious minutes that could be spent saving lives. But on the other hand, charging in with just your own people could be just a way to waste the lives of your own people. But… You must do something, right? As a man of God, no, as a man, you must do something…!

>Gather up your people, put your faith in the Lord and go to stop this madness. Whether it’s the kidnappers or just some gang gone mad, you have to do whatever you can to stop them.

>Go as fast as you can and get Marella, you have a feeling you’re going to need all the help you can to stop these madmen, and you know from experience that her gang is quite handy in a fight.

>Send your most well trained and armed people to go and take position at key entry and exit points to the market. While doing this may mean that more people may be hurt or killed while you wait for the gang to walk into your trap, you think this is both the safest and most effective way to handle the situation. So, what is our immediate focus lads? Preaching? Gang shit? Romance? The kidnappers? Reason I ask is, we have gained a relatively large amount of manpower - 25 faithful is more than 300% of our previous numbers. We could, therefore, do any number of things with such a force. We've got a single lasgun as I recall and are faced with a foe that has multiple guns. Short of us being insanely lucky on the charge in, we'd be cut down and The Faith would die with us. If we're desperate to bolster our numbers, ask those who seek to enter our Cult if they want a trial by fire. After all, to risk life and limb to save your fellow man from a terrible fate - what better homage to Christ can there be?

While I want to charge in, we're really not well armed at all and it'd be a hell of a risk. Our faith may be strong but it's not quite at the point it'll stop bullets or las fire. Well, not yet.

Faction & Relations section doesn't list the Jags / Marella's opinion of us. I mean, it's pretty obvious what it is, but it is technically missing...

Reading this reminds me of the thing I was going to say we could/should attempt - that being getting more algae vats running. We've four times the manpower, we presently get a harvest every three weeks from the existing vats. Assuming we dedicated all of our newest followers to algae vat-manning and that they could only handle "as much" as we did before? We could have the same size of harvest every week which'd be a insanely large amount of food, even before accounting for the potential for them to man more vats.

Also, a thing we could do though I admit I don't know how well it'd work: vermin traps scattered around our temple / zone of control. Reduce pests, potentially reduce disease, maybe even get some semi-edible meat for our trouble? Worst comes to worst, bonemeal would certainly be good for the farms and stuff.

I'd also say that we need to look into fortifying our position further. The temple is secure, +10 to defense rolls ain't nothing to joke about, but unless we want to bring outsiders into our temple if the kidnappers attack us and our applicant-followers, we'll need some sort of additional layer of defenses to keep us safe. Plus, it'd be another way of showing our growing strength and hopefully attracting people due to the sense of security.

God… Thinking quickly, you bark an order to Reek, to get the most well trained and able out of your flock, to get them ready and armed and at the key exit and entry points to the market. He doesn’t flinch, giving you a swift nod and then immediately yelling at those around him, with more steel in his voice than you thought was possible. Those around him hop to it, some hesitantly, some with that nervey energy that comes through you right before a big scrap. You grab young Kieran, and say to him “Go quickly and get Marella. Tell her what’s going on, and that we’re gonna need help. Go. Go!”

The boy gulps, before nodding and then sprinting out the gate and down the street, to the Jags hideout. You pray that he’ll be swift of foot, for you shall surely need the help. Then you feel Reek’s knobbly hand on your shoulder, and you hear him say “We got the best of ours ready, Kvar. As ready as they’ll ever be. At your orders, sir.” You cast a quick glance behind you, some 20 or so faces, as steely as they can be. Most are armed with what they had before joining your flock, which amounts mainly to stubber pistols and the odd double barrelled shotty. With your lasgun and Reek’s autostubber, it’ll have to do.

It will have to do.

You give a shout to get moving, and then you’re off. It doesn’t take long to smell the smoke, and the closer you get to the market another scent comes in, stronger. The smell of piss and shit and blood. The smell of battle. Of slaughter.

You man the main entrance, with about seven people. Reek takes six with him to the entrance opposite, circling around the market through the byways and alleys. Bolt, one of your more hardy and excitable members, takes eight, positioning them two at a time at all the smaller entrances and exits she can. You hear screams, whether from the victims or the slaughterers you can’t tell. You hear gun fire, loud and echoing through the halls. You wait there, for several minutes, hearing the screams and the guns and smelling the blood, waiting for the first bastard to come through. And then…

Silence.

You grip your lasgun tighter, as the seconds of silence stretches on into a minute, and then two minutes, and then…
>>
The first one comes charging through the smoke, covered in blood and with strange symbols carved into his bald head, screaming pure madness. You feel a coldness sweep over you as you raise your lasgun, aim, and fire. His brains exit the back of his skull, wispy coils of smoke puffing out of his mouth, as he falls limp. And then there’s another, with one behind him. You bellow out an order to fire, to fire at will, and pray to Jesus that Reek and Bolt can handle their sides. More and more come charging through, hopping over the small pile of bodies to get at you, gnashing their rotten teeth. They fall like the rest. One straggler comes through, and before he dies he tosses his axe at your head, and before you can dodge the hilt of it strikes your forehead, drawing blood into your eyes and making your head swim. When your vision clears, you see a pile of maybe a dozen men and women gathered at the entrance. For a moment you think that that’s it, that they’re all dead.

And then you hear the chanting.

The smoke at the entrance lights up for a moment, you hear the crack of a stubber and look to your left as Alicia falls, grabbing her now ruined knee and screaming. “GET TO COVER!” You shout, dragging Alicia behind an overturned bench, as little whiz bangs ding off of it. It’s not just crazies with axes and shivs, you realize. That was just to soften you up, or to get you to let your guard down. Now the real killers have shown up, and part of you is afraid that you’re outgunned. Marella… Where’s Marella?

>Stay there and trade fire with the killers. God is on your side, and you can’t leave Reek and Bolt behind. Weather the storm and kill all these bastards, until it is done.

>Fall back, you can’t risk any more of your flock getting hurt or killed. Hopefully the worst of the bastards is focused on you, and Reek and Bolt can handle their end or pull out without too much harm. You’ll have to find somewhere safe to wait for Marella to get here, and then you can take the fight back to the bastards.

>You feel a strange heat rising up in you. Your limbs are turning numb, even as you fire laser after laser into the smoke and the flames. Kindle that heat, let it turn into an inferno. Give these killers a taste of Hell before you send them there.

You can’t pull back. You can’t leave Reek and Bolt behind. So you shout the order over the stubber fire to keep shooting, to fight and kill until it is done. The chanting of the killers grows louder, and in your head a constant prayer loops, quiet but determined. Please God... Let us win!

You pop up out of cover for a second and drill three las shots into the chest of one of them, punching a smoking hole clean through his chest and the scraps of metal he was wearing as a kind of makeshift armor. As you fall back into cover, you look to your right and see Leer, a young lad who couldn’t be more than 14, get his throat shot out, his last words covered up by the gurgle of blood and vomit that bubbles out of the hole. His eyes drill into yours, almost seeming to question you, asking “Why? Why did you let this happen to me, Kvar?” But there’s no time to grieve, as the line of killers at the entrance never seems to lessen, even as you and yours kill more and more of them.

For every three or four of theirs that you fell, one of your followers is either horribly wounded or killed. Stubber fire rains down onto you, plinking off of your piddly cover as it drills holes into it, the corners being blasted off with great sparks that light up the darkness. Jesus, how can there be so many of them?! This vicious struggle continues for maybe ten more minutes, although to you each agonizing second seems to stretch on and on, what could possibly be the final moments of your life spilling out around you in so much blood and gunsmoke. Your heart skips a beat as you hear the chanting stop, just for a moment, before revving up again, louder, as you hear the coffin thud of boots on metal approaching you, steadily, beat by beat. You cast a look around and see that your numbers have been reduced to three terrified and bloodied men and women.

This is it.

You give what you think will be your last prayer to God, begging him to give comfort and everlasting peace to your fallen, and as you rise up to meet your fate, gruff hands grip your shoulder and drag you back down. You whirl, and before you realize it you almost accidentally drive a laser beam through the ruinously scarred face of your beloved, before she grins and shouts over the gunfire “Kept ye waitin’, eh? Don’t worry, we’ll make short work of this drek!” And as you look over her shoulder, you see the entire force of the Jags behind her, already trading fire with the killers, grim determination and thirsting bloodlust cast on their pallid faces.
>>
She’s right, they do indeed make short work of the madmen, these young men and women who make brutal violence their life and trade completely show you up in just how thoroughly they decimate the killers. In another fifteen minutes, the situation is settled as Ace smashes a sledgehammer through the skull of the last of them. The destruction of the market was equally thorough, and part of you wonders as you gaze over the bodies and ruins of what was once a joyful, life filled place if it will ever return to it’s former glory. You hope so, but the sheer desolation makes you doubt it all the same.

That evening, you take stock of your dead and wounded. Miraculously, you were mostly untouched, except for some small cuts and scrapes from the shrapnel of your cover being torn apart. Unfortunately, those whom you brought along were not so fortunate. Reek and Bolt managed to stay mostly intact, but all told you have nine dead and eleven wounded. And while there may be a good number of survivors from the market, they have all gone into hiding at their respective homes and hovels. It’ll take some work to figure out what exactly happened there, but the needs of your own people are pressing on you as well.

>You have 16 church faithful, 1 church devout, and 6 church fanatics. You also have 5 months of food left, 12 units of metal scrap, 3 units of lumber, a Pilgrims Temple as well as 220 units of the energizing blue fruit, and 20 Thrones.

>Tend to your dead and wounded, and prepare for a funeral for those heroes who sacrificed themselves for you and those in the market. This takes precedence over all else, your dead deserve their due.

>Investigate the wreck of the market, try to figure out what happened and who the Hell these bastards were, and if there are more of them lying in the shadows.

>Meet with Marella. She returned to her base after she made sure you and yours were gonna be okay, licking her own wounds, you suppose. But you still have a great deal to talk about, not just with this new threat that is potentially still around, but also with the kidnappers, whom you are sure have not just slinked off into the background.

Wait tell Marella and the Jags to loot the bastards corpses. Might has well get something out of it.

Vermin traps wouldn't be a bad idea. There are rats and animals around the underhive. The algae vats not bad either.

The temple is secure against individuals and small groups. But a organized full on attack is a different story. It needs to be further fortified and expanded, both for security and new members. Also for the church it self really. A barricade surrounding it wouldn't be bad for a second layer of defense.
We might want to invest in a smithy and workshop, more tools would help us during work, and we severaly lack in equipment and weapons.

Over the next week, you and Esma do what you can for the wounded, while the others prepare the dead and the pyres for their funerals. Young men and women, with so much in front of them, dying for you. You’ve felt different ever since the attack, and you think your people can tell, although none of them dares to broach the subject with you. If they hear you late in the night, when the nightmares grow too much and you go to weep in your office, they don’t mention it. You try to keep a strong front for the others, but you can only hide so much, you suppose. Still, the work of healing those who were hurt helping you keeps your mind busy enough.

Those who were the most grievously injured were healed by you and the power gifted to you by the Lord, while Esma tends to those who are comparatively better off. It would be easier and more effective to treat them if you had a medicae kit, but you make do. At some point in the week, Marella comes over with a couple of her Jags, loaded down with loot from the fallen murderers, as well as, you suspect, some items pilfered from the ruined market. A couple dozen Thrones, a lot of weapons and some scrap is your share of the take.

>You have gained 60 Thrones, enough stubber rifles to supply your entire cult, as well as 30 metal scrap and 30 lumber scrap, boosting your numbers to 80 Thrones, 32 metal scrap and 33 lumber scrap.

Finally by the end of the week, the dead are wrapped in cloth and the pyres are prepared. In the evening, when you exit the Temple you see a large number of people gathered, most of them not a part of your cult or the Jags, but still many familiar faces all the same. You suppose they’re here to pay their respects to the people who tried to help them and stop the massacre, and that eases the pain in your heart, just a little. Marella and all her Jags are there as well, some of them chatting with your followers, as many of her gang and your cult have grown close over the past couple of months of you all working together.

This time there is no stand erected for you to step on, and as you walk to the front of the crowd, a hush gathers around you. A stillness settles in the air, as you think on what to say. And deep inside you, a strange tension builds…
>>
>Give your eulogy with fury in your heart. The people here need to know that the men who killed your people and all those in the market are something inhuman, you need to preach to their souls that a lust for vengeance must be kindled. You will all have your revenge on whatever is left of the murderers, and soon!

>Talk about the lives and spirits of your fallen. Tell all around you of how good these people were, how kind and plainly decent each one was. Tonight, you just want to share in the memories of those you’ve lost, and to pray for them to find peace in the hereafter.

>Preach that the community needs to pull together, that the hardships are not over, but with faith in God all can be overcome. Tell them that although we all lost people in this attack, their souls are resting in peace and joy with the Lord. Faith is what we will need, and with faith, we can get through anything.

I feel that we should not gloss over patching up the wounded and feeding the hungry... feeding the sick from the exertion of their injuries... and then leap forward into the resource faze and then leap again to our next fight.

I also think that just as with the walls of jericho came down by the sound of music, that in future we might acquire a vox and speakers to blast shouting and marching sounds to confound our adversaries into not attacking... Assuming anything remains of their sanity.

We treat faith as our main commodity, which is why we broach the subject of selling it for coin. But perhaps if we sold some other kind of commodity as a side project, we would be released from this spiral.

Options that spring to mind are:
1.) bread (bread made by the righteous is much more likely to be of good standard, ezekial bread go!)
2.) firefighting (your home is burning? I know some frens who can poor water on it! This worked very well for some romans, its extremely lucrative! Think of the insurance money!! Fight fire with water!)
3.) banking (the righteous are less likly to steal your cash bc they'll go to hell. However it inevitably happens anyway.)

Just posting a few ideas qm.
>>
>>5802424
Personally disagree with the idea faith is our "main commodity" or that we are in any way trying to sell it for coin.

As for trying to make money - right now seems pointless. The market place just got attacked, chances are we're not going to have access to it for at least a turn or two and even if we do, it is going to be more limited in the goods available. I'd rather we focus our manpower on preaching, charity and building up the church since people joining provides us with their assets - which is honestly probably a quicker route to money than business given the poverty of the underhive.

If however we are looking to sell goods and services, not sure banking or firefighting are worth anything given the people we'd be selling to. Firefighting is of limited value whenever the majority of people are semi-homeless living in the ancient hive-structures. Ramshackle homes are certainly a thing, but the risk of fire to the average person is tiny when most of the walls/floor are metal. Banking meanwhile runs into the problem that most people aren't going to have want/reason to store their money 99% of the time.

Food is honestly the best good we can produce right now. Most underhivers don't exactly have a good/stable supply and we can expand our algae, potato and apple crops to feed more and more of them. Either selling directly or relying on their charitable donations. Beyond food, alcohol or tools are likely valuable trade goods too. Fabric as well, but we've not got any great source of that right now.

In terms of valuable services, a clinic / "hospital" wouldn't be impossible to set up - beds, boiling water for disinfecting bandages and a few basic surgeon's tools - and would be another service we could offer to encourage charity. Obviously Kvar can heal people by-touch but the limit on how many means that if nothing else, this facility would let us keep people alive until he can restore their bodies. Another potential business would be having the market move to our territory / expanding our territory to cover where it was and instituting a tithe on trade there. We protect, they sell, everyone profits. Lastly, we could look into setting up an orphanage - the idea being it'd be an easy way to get new faithful into the church and encourage donations.
>>

>We treat faith as our main commodity

lmao just get tithes and donations. Why become merchants? Literally diluting the faith for profit when tithes and donations are just as good if not better.

>>5803022
Honestly this is what we should do for now. Money doesn't have much value if we can't do anything with it, and population growth is the only way to not be destroyed in the long run Sun Belt Crusaders taught many anons this the hard way.
Establishing ourselves as the reason many can gain hope again will bring donations, and like I've said before tithes (literally 10% of a person's income) exist for a reason.
>>
>>5803027
>Sun Belt Crusaders
My brother - also yeah, the timelines are all too likely to echo each other...

In terms of a few other ideas? We've a book of stories, the bible, and (although I can think of reasons not to) we could almost certainly recreate stories from it on stage to entertain and educate a crowd. Failing that, producing a comedy or drama with a moral lesson is a old christian tradition and entirely suited to our needs. Adapting familiar imperial stories, highlighting the christian ethos under them and cutting out the inappropriate parts would work as a interim measure - giving us a body of works we could perform which most should know and want to see. There are plenty of reasons not to do this, especially if we intend to charge money to watch the performance - but it is a possibility.

Similarly, and possibly as extension to the idea of supply medical aid, would be a bath house. Don't imagine we'd see amazingly high demand at least at first, but if nothing else it would be a nice luxury for our cult members and such as well as a definite improvement in QoL in the underhive. Other entertainment options that we could sponsor or start are somewhat limited. A pub wouldn't be impossible but we lack a supply of alcohol, so we'd need to find a supplier first. Whores are not christian so we can forget about those beyond maybe some tacit acceptance that things are bad + they need the income / applying standard taxes against them. Gambling is slightly more interesting - the bible doesn't forbid or directly call it bad but warns against a love of money or a desire to get wealthy quickly/easily. Penny-bets are something we could do but the profit from them is inherently small. Entertainment beyond that? Simple games like horseshoes or something, maybe.

Walking in front of the crowd of mourners, a pall gathers around you as the world becomes very still, and very quiet. While there are those who didn’t know your fallen personally among them, they all know the sacrifice they made was for them. You see anger on their faces, as well as pain and sadness. And why shouldn’t they be sad, you think, with the state of the underhive now. First kidnappers, and now madmen killing without cause or care. Your hand clenches into a fist, as you recall the terror of that battle. And yet, you know you cannot give into anger. No, you must tell everyone here of the lives and virtues of your dead.

You begin without ceremony, all eyes trained on you. “Friends, we are all here for one reason: To pay respects to those who are now lying before you. Take sweet Annika,” You say as you walk over and place a hand on her pyre, “She was always ready and willing to give a kind word and a helping hand to all who needed it, in and out of the Temple.” You trail over to another pyre, Marius wrapped in cloth atop a pile of tinder. “Marius here was gruff, sure, but he had a good heart. And he died trying to save you. To save all of us.” And in your head words come unbidden to the light of your mind And he died for me. On my orders.

Tears pour from your eyes as you carry on, although your voice remains strong and steady as you talk about the lives of those like Needle, Buster, Kyra, all those who died in God’s name. And in the middle of the speech, that tension that had been building in you seems to snap, and you become undone, falling to the floor like a puppet with it’s strings cut. You think you hear the crowd gasp, and as your mind becomes hazy, you think you see the scarred face of Marella looming over yours, shouting… Something. Eventually it feels as if your body becomes consumed by raging, burning heat, your mind pulsing in and out of consciousness as the heat consumes it as well. And eventually…

There is nothing at all.

>You have been granted a miracle by God! Pick one of the three below.

>The Light of God: Once a week, your body can become suffused with holy light, strengthening the resolve and morale of all who sees it, as well as greatly increasing the rate at which plants and crops grow.

>The Passion of Christ, once a day you can give a speech that inflames the inner courage and spirit of any faithful listening, the tempering of their soul temporarily strengthening their body, allowing them to perform feats previously impossible, and the courage to carry it out.

>The Strength of Samson: Once a day you can become a conduit to the power of the Lord, your body rippling with new muscle as you grow in height, your skin becoming as strong as bronze and your arms and hands capable of rending steel with ease.

Those are all great, but this one feels like the best one to prevent more deaths in the future. We are doing good enough on the food and morale department so far, and there's only so much a lone gigachad can do.

Between this and The Passion of Christ - Samson's Strength would be...nice, but I can't see us making anywhere near the same sort of use of it. At best we take advantage of being able to rend steel and lift great loads to be a single man construction/demolition crew for base expansion and such. Passion and Light meanwhile both open yet more preaching / faith-strength stuff which is what we're already good at.

After some thought I'll change my vote to
>The Passion of Christ, once a day you can give a speech that inflames the inner courage and spirit of any faithful listening, the tempering of their soul temporarily strengthening their body, allowing them to perform feats previously impossible, and the courage to carry it out.
Mostly due to how urgent it might be for the near future. I'll probably change it back if this becomes a tie.
>>
>>5805367
We're going to end up in more direct confrontations eventually, and soon enough if we keep leading our people and leading the attack's we'll get engaged in melee by some uber powerful demon or alien "boss". Having Samson strength would help assuming it doesn't kill us and everyone else.

Plus this is a good opportunity for us to start picking out or crafting some cool ass melee weapon.
>>
>>5805363
You actually can upgrade all your current abilities, increasing their power as well as the decreasing the time between when you can use them again. Just write in what power you want to improve, and apologies for not including that in the post, I'll try to remember to add that in for next time.
>>
>>5805645
Good to know but...

I'd rather not have power upgrades compete with new powers at the same time.
I'd like for powers to increase separately with new powers segmented in a separate but significant choice event.

This way we can either choose to strengthen a power without at the cost of selecting a new ability power and vice versa.
>>
>>5805636
A fair point but my assumption is we can make better gains through accumulating followers and tightening their faith than we can breaking the metaphorical Canaanites.

>>5806300
Eh, that seems like it'd escalate too fast. Honestly I'm amazed we're getting as many miracles as we are.
>>
>>5806407
>Honestly I'm amazed we're getting as many miracles as we are.

To be fair, it's very unlikely that there are many other Faithful like Kvar for God to empower. As such, as one of the first to bring back the Faith after literal millennia, it's only natural He would be able to grant us more attention, relatively speaking.
>>
>>5806625
Yeah, we should probably think of Kvar as a prophet rather a preacher.
>>
>>5806407
It's probably for give him a chance to deal against truly evil stuff and other things in the underhive. Kvar has dealt with small cults and other foes, but there is probably far bigger factions out there with bigger numbers and other advantages.
So is better if Kvar doesn't die easily, becoming a trump card of our church in more than one way. Being a normal human leader in a battle against an expanding/growing genestealer cult for example wouldn't be easy. There is also much stuff not related to chaos stuff that is also dangerous under here : like mutants tribes, cannibals, alien animals mutated by industrial waste, ruthless gangs without morality etc....
>>
>>5806407
Its less about the rate we get miracles and more on giving a good and fair chance to progress two separate axis of abilities and power.

Although I'd like to see incremental powerups more than a totally new ability.
Jack of all trades or a master of some I suppose.

>>
>>5806625
Yeah, but by the same logic there can't be that many faithful "powering" our miracles - assuming God isn't actually capital G god, creator of the universe, and is instead a warp entity - which would surely limit the rate at which boons can be extended to us. We are important to the revival of His worship whatever the case and he's yet to do wrong by us, so all praise the big G!

>>5807098
Oh very true, but as a counterpoint, skin of bronze won't protect us against a krak grenade or warp lightning (...probably...) - it's a pretty huge combat power boost and I admit it has plenty of non-combat applications (construction, demolition and industrial work - also impressing the faithful / unconverted). I admit, I am honestly unsure which power would be best but given our existing "non-combat" reputation and skills, that seemed a good thing to build on. If Samson's Strength wins, great stuff, if not, great stuff.
>>
>>5808136
Before we find any kraks and psykers, there is far more stuff that will use badly made ranged weapons and melee weapons or fighting even unarmed. So is quite useful even for protection, especially because prior to that is just the normal human body of Kvar.

When your consciousness resurfaces from the oblivion in which it was stewing, you find that the crowd is still gathered around you, Marella trying to stay as close to you as possible despite the heat. It takes you a moment to notice, but you see that there is some strange, blue light filling the street. And on each in the crowd, you see utter wonderment and delight on their faces despite the grim occasion for which they are here, touched by that strange light. You look down, and see that the light is coming from you!

Your skin is translucent, showing no muscles or organs except your skeleton, as well as your beating heart, seemingly the source of this light as the room pulses with each beat of it. As you struggle to get up, still weak, a woman from the crowd comes and takes your hand, lifting you to your feet as the heat inside you dies down. “God is… Real?” she mumbles, staring at your beating heart. To your surprise, young Kieran steps forth, his stature having changed so much from that scared and psychotic young boy who stabbed you all those months ago. “Yes!” he shouts “God is real! And he loves you, all of you! Just look at Kvar, look at how His light makes you feel!”

As the boy talks, each man and woman falls to their knees, their hands raised up towards you, the Light of God making some weep, while others hold their mouths slack and agape, wide eyed in rapture of the pure goodness that Gods light makes them feel. You place a hand on Kieran, smiling and proud at how much he has grown.
>>
The rest of the funeral carries on with you talking about the lives and spirits of your fallen, before finally, Andrew takes a flaming torch to the pyres and sets them alight, one by one. Reluctantly, the crowd finally disperses, although you get many who approach you and ask to join, their souls stirred by such a direct example of Gods power. Something to consider for later, you suppose.

The light stays glowing strong within you for the rest of the day, and to your delight you find when you enter the farm that the crops begin to lean towards you, straining for the holy light, and you can almost hear them pulling themselves out of the dirt, growing at a rate that shouldn’t be possible.

But as you’ve known for a long time now, with God, anything is possible.

A workshop for general crafting wouldn't be bad either. Still this three structures would be damn useful for our church and anyone not interested in being a fighter can help here.
If they dont want to scavenge or farm. Though we can do them later, the marriage and becoming a fortified monastery are very important.

Also I'm gonna do a bit of rewriting of history, the Light of God no longer works on a weekly basis, but instead a daily one, so as to make it actually useful for growing your plants faster as well as improving the morale and conviction of your people and those of the rest of the underhive.

With the supplies you’ve gathered over the weeks, and the mounting threats growing outside your Temple, you think it prudent to improve the defenses as well as the comfortability of your Temple, making fine space for whatever new converts you can bring into the fold. You consider telling Andrew to lead the construction, but when you remember his muteness, you chuckle and think of someone else. Bolt should do, you think. When you find her, she’s in your office sitting in a chair reading The Holy Bible. Pride stirs in your heart, for Bolt, despite her rambunctiousness and her excitability is perhaps your most faithful convert, having been with since the start. She looks up from it, rather deep into the Bible, and says “Hoy there Kvar. Just doing some studying. Whatcha need?”

You tell her of your plans, and before you exit you throw in one last request: “Could you also… Prepare the Temple for the wedding?” Her eyes widen at that, and you realize that you haven’t told anyone of your plans with Marella. “Good God Kvar, you’re finally tying the knot with old Marella? Well, that’s great, it’s good to have union blessed by God after all.” She gets a cheeky look in her eyes as she throws in a little barb “Hope you haven’t been getting into any naughty business with her before the wedding!” You blush bright red at that, and seeing it causes Bolt to burst out into laughter, “Ah who am I kidding, there ain’t no way you’d do something like that. Well, just lemme finish up my reading and I’ll get the boys started on it right away.”

Pleased that improvements are coming, you spend the rest of the week outside the Temple, talking to those who were impressed by the Miracle and finding themselves wanting to join. While many are… Wanting, you still think that there is a kernel of pure goodness in each of them, after your talks. You give them the same test that you gave to those who wanted to join after the feast, and while a handful refuse, most do indeed go along with it, returning to you after a few hours, each made lesser than what they were before. But in their eyes, you see a certain steeliness that comes only when you’ve done something good, and so you think they’ve gained something as well. You welcome them into the Temple, and your older members are already showing them around, treating them with an open friendliness that is very unusual in the underhive.

>You’ve gained 16 new followers, changing your numbers to sixteen church members, sixteen church devout, and six church fanatics.
>>
By the end of the week you feel reinvigorated, ready to take on anything that the good Lord wants to throw your way.

>Pick two of the options below.

>Deepen the military training of your people. You foresee many conflicts arising in the near future, and you need your flock to be ready for it.

>Go and see Marella about hitting the base of the kidnappers. You need to nip this in the bud sharpish, as you’ve got a queer feeling that something bad may happen if you continue to hold off on it.

>Spend the week using the Light of God to try and convert those in the underhive who can be made to see it. You and everyone else gets an extremely comforting feeling of undistilled goodness when you use it, so you figure it may be effective in bringing in more converts.

>Spend the week using the Light of God to improve your plants growth speed. If you keep this up, harvest will be ready in a couple weeks rather than another couple of months.

It'd be nice if we could delegate the base-attack planning so we could try and get more followers / soldiers for the fight but that's the downside of being needed everywhere I suppose.

But do we have time? There is every risk that if we wait another week to launch the attack, the cultists will strike again - or complete a profane ritual to summon a daemon - or manage to attract attention from up-hive. It's unlikely to be a instant-loss or anything but it's definitely worth considering that the longer we wait, the stronger they can get.

This is to say nothing of the possibility of them talking around other gangs or groups into joining them or forcibly recruiting.

The next morning, you wake up and have breakfast with your followers. The Temple’s flock is growing to be a bit too much for one woman to feed, and after she complains to you, you enlist Kieran and young Seth Orson to the role. They’re relatively young, so despite some groaning and moaning you eventually get them to hop to it. Once the large meal is finished and you’re all eating, you speak to Reek, saying “I suspect that there will be trouble, and soon. Can you train our brothers and sisters harder?” Reek grins at that, toothy and slightly vicious as he says “Aye, won’t be no problem, sir. Frankly, I think I wasn’t training them hard enough to being with, hah!”

With that sorted, you’re about to begin your daily task of talking to all those who come to the soup kitchen, when young Carnens, the son of Esma, grabs you by the sleeve of your coat. The boy is rather sullen and quiet, much unlike his extremely excitable and curious sister Gavica, so it’s rather unusual that he’s coming to you this time instead of the other way around. The boy speaks up, saying “Kvar… Are we going to war? C-can you keep my mom out of it if we do? Please?” While you think of what to say, the boys sad eyes and downcast face really makes you consider his request, despite the need for every hand possible in a battle.

>Will you let Esma stay at the Temple during battles? Yes/No.

With that settled, you go on your way and past Reek running your people through his daily drills, many of the new ones already sweating and panting. “COME ON!” He screams, “IS THAT THE BEST YOU GOT? PICK UP THE PACE!” He certainly has the makings of a real Sarge, which as you consider his history, he probably was. When you get to the soup kitchen, there is already a long line of people. You take your place with a few of the others at the steaming pots filled with various types of soup and gruel, and begin speaking to each who come, telling them of the glory of Jesus...
>>
When you’re finally finished for the day, many hours later, you say your goodbyes to the hungry and your workers, and move on to go visit Marella. It’s a brisk walk, although this time you see as you pass through her territory about half a dozen strung up bodies, hanging under walk ways and lamp posts. Each one is bearing the scars and tattoos of those who attacked the market. You suppose she’s been busy.

After Ace lets you through the door, you go through the halls, getting stopped on your way by the Jags techie, the young lady grinning as she gives you a light punch on the shoulder, saying “I can’t believe it, you sly dog!” When you ask what she’s talking about, she nearly shouts “The wedding, dummy! The first man to ever steal the ol’ bosses heart. Although, why she would choose you, I have no idea. You’re so boring!” She pauses for a second, as she grabs her chin and then wonders aloud “Wait, would that make Kvar our leader now? That would suck.” She looks back at you and says “Oh wait, you’re here for her aren’t ya? Well, she’s right down the hall and to the left. See ya, potential boss man!”

Leaving the strange girl behind, you head over, following her directions, and come upon what must be Marella’s room. It’s large, and other than a pile of clothes and another pile of weapons and a bed, it’s rather spartan. Marella looks to you when you enter, holding a large bottle of Amasec. She must be a bit drunk as she says “Hoy there loverboy! Don’t ye know how to bleddy knock? Hold on one tic…” She stands, tossing the bottle aside with a loud crash as it hits the wall and shatters, and walks over to you, and after a long look at your face says “You’re here for killin’ business, ain’t ye? I can tell by the way your eye’s look. They got a bit of bloodlust in ‘em, alright. Well shite, I’m ready for a wee scrap.”

You tell her of the location of the kidnappers base, and after she asks you how the Hell you found that one out, you two discuss how to attack for the rest of night, another bottle of Amasec shared between you…

>Gather everyone between the Jag’s and the Temple, and hit them after you prepare for a week. It’ll be bloody, most likely, but also probably pretty effective. You just have to hope that your people are trained enough…

You send out Ace and Andrew to carefully spy on the kidnappers and to track their movements while pretending to be just a couple of homeless, while you and Marella stay ready and nearby to rush to their location and ambush them. Ace, well, Ace you’ve seen in battle. The man is vicious, and with being Marella’s second in command, has something of a cool head on his shoulders. And Andrew, he doesn’t make much noise by nature, and you know he has a deep core of steel within himself. He’ll handle it, by the grace of [red]God[/red], you know he will handle it.

It takes three weeks before the door at the kidnappers base even opens, and when they do, Reek relays through a hidden voxcaster back to you and Marella, saying “They’ve finally come out. It’s six of em, each carrying weapons and wearing what appears to be heavy armor, except for one, who is dressed in strange clothes and has a strange metal crown on his head.” That does indeed fit the description that young Seth Orson gave to you when you rescued him, all those months ago. This is it.

The day it all ends.

You and Marella take a few moments to prepare yourselves and your men, and then head off, moving through the halls and corridors as silently as possible, with thick cloth masks over your mouths to quiet your breaths, and thick red wraps around your shoes, to mask your footsteps. Following Reeks directions, you set up the ambush at the only exit in the long and cramped hallway the kidnappers are heading inside of. Your followers. Marella’s Jags. Over 70 people all gathered to kill six evil men. You’d think they’d stand no chance, but for some reason, you have an awful feeling wringing your guts up like washcloth. You hear the thuds of heavy boots growing closer and closer, and you feel a strange coldness suffuse your lungs, chilling your heart and mind.

[red]Battle Fever.[/red]

Marella grows antsy as gripping her stubber so tightly you can see the whites of her knuckles. You can’t really believe it, but… You think she might be afraid. You’ve… You’ve never seen her fear anything before since the 10 months since you’ve met. Nothing at all.

Until now.

The heavy drum beat of their approach grows louder and louder, and finally, it’s time. [red]God[/red] is with you, and with that knowledge you can live or die at total peace. It’s time!
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvXR_a_hTwg&list=RDy10iGJdspnQ&index=46

Marella screams “TAKE THEM THE FUCK OUT!” And then it’s all hellfire and damnation, an ungodly racket like none you’ve ever heard as all seventy of your men fire at the same time, drowning the claustrophobic hallway in gunsmoke and bright flashes of light. What must be return fire from the sends a bullet crashing through the skull of Jemison, and two your left and right two more fall, ripped apart by some unholy weapon. You feel an ugly keening sensation as [i]something[/i] reaches into your mind. Dirty, bloody fingers grope your soul, and you feel your strength fail. You feel like a puppet with it’s strings cut, as no matter how much you struggle, you can’t lift your lasgun to fire back. W-what the Hell is this?

And then, the fingers dig deeper, burrowing deep into your mind. You hear a voice, barely above a whisper but demanding all of your attention. It’s Him! The one with the strange crown. He doesn’t ask for anything, but instead takes near complete control of you, and you see through what almost feels like doubled vision as you raise you lasgun up, pointing it at Marella. “[red]GOD[/red] NO! NO NO NO NO NO!” you scream internally, although not even a breath escapes your lips.

“NOT IN MY BODY, NOT BY MY HAND! I WILL CAST YOU OUT, DEMON, BASTARD, HELLSPAWN! OUT, OUT, OOOUUUUUUTTTT!!!”

And then suddenly, your mind feels extremely cold, as bright, holy light pours out of your eyes, then your skin, and before long you shine with a brightness that would blind most who sees it. The fingers digging into your soul race out of you, as the whispers in your mind turn to agonized screams. You regain control almost like nothing happened at all, and after casting a near terrified glance at Marella, who seemingly didn’t notice your struggle whatsoever. Thank [red]God.[/red] You look down the hallway, you see one of them on the ground and writhing and screaming in awful pain as smoke comes off of him in great, billowing waves. In the time it took you to fight the invasion off, more of your men and women have died, although none around you falters or shows much fear at all, seemingly while the Light of God shines upon them. Other than the one who must have tried to take you over, the rest are still standing, many slight plinks and sparks twinkling off of their armor.

[i]What the hell are they wearing? How… How can we get through that? Even my lasgun doesn’t seem to affect it much.[/i]

More and more men fall, some with their legs and arms blown off. Your people. Her people. You have to do something!

Ah shit they truly are what we suspected.
Someone way up is collecting slaves down here to sell, and they have the money for great equipment. i am considering retreating.
Well there is two ways here, if we don't want to retreat : try to prolong the fight and fire on them in concentrated fire on a single man from further distance, or charge in melee for try and immobilize them so we can place them out of their armors and grab their weapons.
Their weapons just kill and they have good training, so i think melee is the best option. That or retreating. We could also try to bring them toward the nests of some animals here but again they are good and have good equipment. They would just hunt us.
We don't have any miracles or powers for combat, only for aid and community.
We should had better prepare probably, with primitive explosives, molotovs, primitive traps, buying other weapons and additional numbers.
It was also a mistake to fight them at range, we didn't plan nearly enough. Not enough thinking.
A lesson.

>Write in
Charge in melee for try and immobilize them so we can place them out of their armors and grab their weapons. Scream for God and the Underhive
>>
i am including myself too in what i mean. I did made the previous write in after all.
>>
>>5823286
This is why I wanted Passion of Christ. It would have made everyone here able to do the impossible
>>
And everything else you talked, it only really depended if we had information about the group, which we didn't.
Ranged is the better option in almost all of the situations after all.
>>
Also, I'm pretty sure this is chaos shit due to the attempted possession and the weapons being described as unholy.
So the kidnapped people might have been sacrificed instead of sold as slaves.
>>5823062
>Use our Light of God to increase morale even further and hopefully help dispel any demonic power of the enemies
>Start singing Psalms
>>
>>5823319
Also, if we can scatter and try to come at them from multiple points/cover, it would be best. We can't take them in a direct firefight.
Sorry about the multiple posts, I'm panicking a little.
>>
>>5823312
Perhaps, still we made that choice.
In part but we had some pieces and knew they were far more dangerous than the standard foes of the underhive. Right now it doesn't matter much what we could have done.

>>5823319
Could be, could be an imperial psyker and Kvar is not quite learned about technology. I am saying this even because for method they don't act like chaos cultists, they don't make a mess, leave marks, butchering or anything of the sort. They are disciplined and do things with order and planning ahead.
They also weren't influenced one bit by the light of God, while the psyker got roasted. Or at least we can't see it.

>>5823332
>set up the ambush at the only exit in the long and cramped hallway the kidnappers are heading inside of
They are pretty much boxed by us. I am not sure if this counts already has what i have said in the past write in to attack them from all directions.
Np

Still lets not despair. Retreating wouldn't be shameful honestly. Is a valid option and we killed their psyker and they needed him for quickly capture people and chain them.
We could try and collapse the place they are inside at the moment, send some of our men with hammers for make the rubble fall over their heads. A risk since it can also kill us.
We could also send two messangers, one towards other underhivers and one towards the Rashers.
Both of this option require some time to resist for be of effect.
>>
>>5823348
That's true. No point in crying over spilled milk.
And do seem oddly disciplined for the underhive. I also had the thought that they might be genestealers, but if that was the case, then why would the kidnapped people disappear instead of returning, and they didn't panic after he psyker fell? It's an unlikely theory.
I'll wait for more anons to give their ideas, but I might change to support you. And worst come to worst, we do have one re-roll banked.
>>
>>5823062
I can't think of anything other than either a tactical retreat or trying to kill them by precisely shooting between their armor, though I don't know if the latter is even possible. BUt either way we need to make sure the psycher that tried to mind control us is dead.
Does their armor cover their whole body?
>>
>>5823653
You can in fact shoot in certain places where the armor doesn't protect. Like the joints, as well as the eye slits in their helmets. And the psyker who attacked you is dead.
>>
>>5823691
Have we or our members been training to be at least decent enough for that in our drills? If so than I'll vote to try and shoot for their weak unprotected parts.
>>
>>5823691
Seems very difficult no offense, this parts would also still be armored and this men wouldn't sit still. Concentrate fire on a single man and hope it works would be the best option at range but again :
They will react and at range they have no issues in slaughtering us.
>>
>>5823705
That's also a fair point. I can't really think of anything besides a retreat.
>>
>>5823737
>>5823705
Well for one thing, you could try asking Marella if she has any ideas. She has a decade of fighting experience, after all.
>>
>>5823700
Reek and maybe 1 or 2 could possibly pull it off, and you could also try, considering God is on your side.
>>
>>5823799
Not to mention that Marella and a couple in her crew may have the necessary skills.
>>
>>5823795
>>5823799
That still might cause too much damage to our forces I think.

>>5823062
>>5823653
Changing my vote to ask Marella about what to do first and foremost.
>>
So it looks to me like there's four options available from the the write ins. I'll collate them below, please vote for one or two unless they conflict with each other.

>Send in all your people to rush them down, bring them to the ground and find any weak spots to shoot/stab. While their armor is powerful, no armor is impenetrable, and while they're weapons are powerful as well, with 70 of you they shouldn't be able to do much if we all rush them down and drag them to the ground.

>Get your best sharpshooters to aim for the weak spots in their armor. Reek and Bolt are probably the best for the job, and on Marella's side your sure she has several that could pull it off, to say nothing of herself.

>Retreat. This is too much, if you stay here you'll only lose more men. You've taken out their magic mind controlling man, without him they should have a much harder time kidnapping whole groups of people. For a while, at least.

>Ask Marella for advice. Surely she's already thinking of something, right? That girl has more combat experience than anyone else in your 70 man war party, and you trust her besides.

We tell her what we're thinking and ask for her input.

While i have no doubt Marella has been in more than an hundred battles, this guys are not common.

they likely have grenades and flashbangs too, excellent against groups. We should at least redeploy a bit further away otherwise they will keep killing us while we talk.

Melee works stupidly well for for some reason....

If we let them go we will probably never find them again until they appear next to us while sleeping and kill us. If they escape they bring information and possible reinforcements back with them next time and we won't be able to handle what comes.

The pitched battle continues, both sides trading gunfire like so much hatred, spitting acid and shells with unrelenting fury. Fortunately you managed to raise some cover on both ends of the hallway, and with your forces split on both sides they seemingly have no way out. That is, however, if they don’t simply destroy one side or the other and force their way out. Part of you considers retreating, but who knows when you’ll get another chance like this. And that’s not even considering the very real possibility that they’ll simply come back and slaughter you in your sleep weeks or months down the line.

You half crawl half shuffle over to Marella, who is cursing under her breath as she lays down unrelenting fire at the five remaining kidnappers. “WHAT SHOULD WE DO, MARELLA? THEIR ARMOR SEEMS IMPENETRABLE!” You shout over the cacophonous noise. “AYE, IT DOES” She shouts back, “BUT I GOT AN IDEA.” Then you faintly hear her say “But I doubt you’ll like it, holyman.” With growing concern, you shout back “WHAT IS IT?” She takes a break from shooting to slide back under the cover, saying “I GOT A COUPLE JUNKIES AND DEALERS WHO WE’VE BROKEN WITH… PERSUASIVE TECHNIQUES. I WAS THINKING WE STRAP EM WITH BOMBS AND GRENADES AND SEND A FEW CHARGING FROM BOTH ENDS TOWARDS THESE BASTARDS, WHILE ANOTHER HANDFUL HANGS BACK. WHEN THEY EITHER DIE OR HIT THEIR MARK, THE ONES HANGING BACK DETONATE AT THE SAME TIME, COLLAPSING THE TUNNEL.”

She grins, her grotesque scar making her appear almost monstrous in the repeating light of the gunfire. “IT’S UGLY, AYE, BUT WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO?”

While they may be drug dealers and junkies, your heart chills a bit at the sheer cold viciousness of her plan. It would probably work, as no armor can protect against dozens or hundreds of tons of metal collapsing on top of you, but still… Can you live with sacrificing people in this way? Could Jesus live with it?

>Accept her plan and give her the go ahead. It’s your only choice. By God, it’s your only choice.

>Turn down her plan and send all your forces charging to overwhelm and hold down the kidnappers, then stabbing/shooting them in their weak points while they can’t move. You’ll surely lose some people with this plan, but there’s not much 5 people can do versus 70+ in melee, even if they have superior armor and weaponry.

>Turn down her plan and tell her to get her best sharpshooters ready. Assuming God is on your side, this is the best way to take them down without losing a lot of men. Still, it would take a hell of a shot to bring them down.

Fighting retreat, have the explosive carriers as a rear-guard. Whenever the enemy walks past their corpses, detonate the explosives. Sharpshooters attempt to eliminate them in the meantime.

Either the sharpshooters get them or we are forced back enough the explosive carriers don't die by suicide.

We want confirmation of death, and retrieval of their sweet OP wargear.

It doesn't need to be one shot, have the sharpshooters take their time while everyone else gives supressing fire.

2 for accepting Marella's plan, 1 for accepting her plan but with some tweaking, 3 for turning her down and trying some sharp shooting and 3 for turning her down and charging them to death.

Need a tie breaker, otherwise in about 30 or so minutes I'll just roll for it.

Rolled 3 (1d3)

Alright, rolling for the tiebreaker.

OK, since the winning option is an auto success, no rolls are necessary. Writing now.

“No…” You mumble, as Marella shouts “WHAT?” Gathering your courage, you shout back “NO! I WILL NOT SACRIFICE ANYONE AGAINST THEIR WILL, EVEN IF THEY ARE JUNKIES AND DEALERS!” Marella sighs as she looks away for a moment, before saying “WELL, WHAT’S YOUR PLAN THEN?” A half mad grin lights up upon your face as you shout “WE CHARGE THEM!” Marella’s eyes go wide for a moment, before she sports a grin of her own. “ARE YOU BLEDDY INSANE? HEH, I GUESS YOU ARE, EH HOLYMAN? FINE THEN, HONESTLY I RECKON IT SHOULD WORK, ALTHOUGH THE LOSSES…” And then she surprises you by gripping your neck and pulling you in fiercely, giving you what may be your final kiss.

“ALRIGHT BOYS, ENOUGH OF THIS SHIT,” She screams, raising out of cover, “CHAAAAAAARRRRGGEEEE!”

No one hesitates, not even for a moment as they all leap over their cover, and from the other end of the hallway, through the gunsmoke and darkness you see the rest of your men doing the same. The Light of God must be spurring them on, and so without hesitation you do the same, running neck and neck with Marella towards them, screaming pure madness, the battle chill having taken you fully. Men and women to your left and right fall, although the horde of your people must seem endless to the kidnappers. With their attention split between your side and the other end of the hallway, their fire is made more ineffective, as confusion and perhaps even panic begin to overtake them.

And then, you’re on them. They draw blade, small but incredibly sharp combat knives, but these men are not superhuman, and soon their blades and guns are wrenched out from their hands and turned against them. Their own guns make quick work of all but one, and you scream “STOOOPPP! WE NEED ONE ALIVE!” Still, it takes several moments for your men to heed what you say, so furious are they that they cut out his eye when his helmet is torn off, and blow off his hand turning it into so much red paste and gore.

And just like that, the battle is over. You won.

When the lone surviving kidnapper is finally fully restrained, you turn around to survey the battlefield. You and Marella have both lost a dozen each. And so soon after lighting the last funeral pyres. As the adrenaline fades, you are taken by an urge to weep and wail so strong that it almost buckles your knees, but… You must stand. For your men and hers. For the fallen.

For the Lord Himself.

So we did it. The kidnappers meet their end. For now at least. What a scourge they were, and so many dead.
If nothing else their equipment and weapons will prove quite a boon for our best warriors. Even if damaged. And their base should have something too : more weapons, perhaps orders, supplies, resources and slaves to save.

When we have done the funerals, we should build a forge, a workshop and something for training (gun range/melee ring). The forge is needed for working metal, which can be used for construction and civilian tools, alongside metal weaponry and armor. Ths workshop anything related crafting like clothing, molotovs and so on.

Our warriors need to be more prepared for the next battles.

HOPE BORN FROM ASHES

SIMPLE

You can’t believe it. He actually did it. Six months of carefully calculated terror, all come undone due to one cultist and his ganger squeeze. While you had no stake in that particular game, it is still… Remarkable. In less than a year Kvar went from one nobody out of trillions of nobodies to, well, somebody. A force that can reckon with the thugs of the spire elite. The news spread quickly, of course. Over the last couple of days people gradually came out of their holes, most half unbelieving that yes, it really is over.

And then, the celebrations started.

While the kidnappers were just one threat out of many in the local underhive, it was a threat that truly struck at the heart of the locals, some unseen danger that you couldn’t prepare for, couldn’t avoid, that would strike in the middle of the night, vanishing whole encampments. The unseen terror is worse than the one you could see coming, you suppose. And while you may partake in some of the free food and drink, you know that soon, very soon, your employer will want a word with this holy man. To recruit him, perhaps, or maybe even just to size him up.

Lighting a lho stick, you finish off the last dregs of the gut rot that barman brews, and smile. The underhive is becoming more and more interesting. And you might as well enjoy the celebrations while they last, for you know that it will only get worse from here on out. Which is fine by you.

Worse is your stock and trade.

And that's it for the fifth thread! Thank you all so much for playing, and I hope you've had as much fun reading and participating as I have writing it. There's still plenty of things to come, and soon the stakes will be much higher!

I'll be taking a day or two off before the next thread, but it should appear on the catalog on Saturday or Sunday. Also if any of you have any thoughts or criticism for the quest so far, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks again, and see you all soon!
>>
>>5833217
Huh, so the kidnappers were mercs instead of cultists after all.
>>
>>5833219
Thank you for running!

>>5833217
Not what I expected, but an interesting surprise nonetheless.
>>
>>5833217
Time to prepare...

>>5831571
We need to do this absolutely. And maybe invest in some combat miracles/powers.
Imagine our warriors not in scrap cloths, but wearing shining armors of reforged scrap metal, wielding new autoguns and steel swords

>>5833219
Thanks it was good.

>>5833225
Frankly how they acted and their objectives did give plenty of clues. I already imagined they weren't the usual scum after the first time, when we heard of them. When they started kidnapping groups upon groups of people, and we couldn't catch them and everyone was afraid it was pretty clear they were a serious danger.
A disciplined, well equipped, trained and prepared force coming down for make plenty of cash through slave trade. I fear they might return.
There isnt just cultists, gangs and mutants down here.
>>
>>5833567
Yeah, we need to get Passion of Christ if it shows up next chance.
It probably that it would had made so this charge would had no casualties.
>>
>>5833584
Samson one wouldn't be bad either, Kvar being more difficult to kill would be quite useful.
>>
>>5833617
It probably would make us impervious in melee for anything short of power or force weapon.
The question is how it would fare in ranged. Could bronze survive a autogun or lasgun shot?
>>
>>5833622
I'm not sure about IRL, but in this quest, yes to both. In Samson form, it would take either long term concentrated fire to pierce your skin with small arms like stubbers or las weapons, or something like a bolter, which would still be mitigated by your durable body.

Really I just used skin of bronze as a colorful descriptor, in application you would be much more durable than that metal.
>>
>>5833688
In that case Samson is way better then I thought it would.
>>
>>5833690
God's miracles don't fuck around lol, I intend for each one to be OP in their own way, if only to grant you an edge against the extreme horrors of the 40k universe.
>>
>>5833622
>>5833690
I mean it helps a lot not just for melee and ranged combat. We become tougher, stronger, taller and overall just better than usual humans. And that would help us for leading our flock, socials and conversions too.
