THIS IS KENGAN OMICRON.

The story takes place paralell to the story of Kengan Omega, the martial arts anime/manga.

The Kengan matches are an underground fighting promotion headed by the Kengan Association. Centuries ago, the wealthiest merchants of the Edo era sent their strongest gladiators to battle out financial disputes. Today the most powerful corporations of Japan carry out this tradition. The underworld and the world of the living are about to intersect!

Martial artists who transcend the public sphere's knowledge exist in the Kengan matches. Those who eclipse the bounds of reason.

You are Billy Yang, a young Kung Fu practitioner searching for a way into the Kengan matches. After making contact with Yamashita Kazuo, a recruiter, you've begun training with veteran fighter Mokichi Robinson.
Your best friend Sammy gave you a lead on the murder of your mother as well. While investigating you managed to find and defeat one of five assassins responsible.

Now you return home to prepare for your final exam, to become a Kengan Association fighter.
>>

With a glare full of disdain you consider your words carefully before speaking.

"I'm honestly not sure how I feel, old man. I got what I wanted, but at the same time I didn't. I'm empty, but I want to know more. I can see that you've made an honest effort to change from your old life. This is a nice school. Hopefully I never have to see you again. Goodbye."

With that you place your hands in your hoodie pockets and make your smooth exit. Jiang can only watch as the man who controlled his face left the premises.

He had long thought that when a day like this came he would die.

As he watched you go an idea occurred to Jiang. "I don't think that young man understands how strong he really is..."

You take a train ride back to Tokyo. During the trip you contemplate the events of the day. You start to think of the past too much and decide to text your friends to distract yourself. Sammy and Kobe are both happy to hear that you're well and discovered more leads on the death of your mother. You go ahead and schedule a lunch with Kobe the next day, and this helps you feel a bit better as well.

The day of your final exam is coming as the week ends. In the days leading up to it you keep your training relatively light. Your damage was minimal during your encounter with Jiang, but it still to put your goals back in perspective.

The Jolt Blow is still imperfect, but should serve as a powerful long range weapon as it is.

The anticipation you feel as the match approaches is electric. Even if it's just a test, you know that your opponent is going to be strong. Probably hand picked just to pressure you.

The day comes and you go to the Yamashita Corp. Building early in the morning. You head up the stairs and are greeted by Yamashita Kazuo and Kaede.

"Good morning." you say.

Kazuo waves and Kaede smiles and nods. "Come on in. The exam will actually be in another office in downtown. We'll head there in just a few. There was something we were wanting to ask you about though."

As you take a seat Kaede picks up where Kazuo left off. "Truthfully, we've had Kengan Association agents digging up information on your history. Not to mention twenty-four hour observation. Do you understand what we're telling you?"

You shrug, and look down at the table sheepishly. "You know that I went outside of Tokyo to Jiang's school yesterday. Which probably means you know I beat him up."

Kazuo nods. "Why did you do it Billy? That's the part we haven't been able to figure out."

You fold your hands onto the table. "He's one of five assassins who are responsible for my mother's murder."

Kaede and Kazuo both look at one another briefly, and back to you. Kaede continues. "Do you want vengeance?"

>A. Yes.
>B. Yes, but not at any cost. I don't plan to murder anyone.
>C. No, I just want answers. I just want to know the truth.

Could I write in "Yes, but not the ones that turned over a new leaf"? I think that strikes a balance between avenging our family and making more Billies - kill the assassins who should be cut down, but not ones like Jiang who would be missed by innocent people.

So ready to be told killing is wrong. Wait, do we know about the Kure clan in character? Shit, maybe we're not ready.

"Yes. But not the ones who have turned over a new leaf. I know it's not really my place to say, but I'm going to go with my gut on this one."

Kazuo smiles. "But you've never killed anyone before, right, Billy?"

You shake your head, and look down at the table.

He turns and looks out the window listlessly. "Many fighters of the underworld have led less than savory lives. Even fighters close to us who we care about greatly. As long as you're not acting out of turn you have the full support of the Kengan Association."

When you look up the morning sun is glinting off of Kazuo's glasses. For just a moment the unassuming old man looks pretty cool. He's telling you that you're not alone in your fight if you don't have to be.

You quickly stand up and bow deeply. "Thank you Mr. Yamashita, Kaede! I promise I won't cause trouble for the Association."

Kaede taps through her smartphone, presumably pulling up notes. "Now that we're done with that you can head on over to meet Mokichi at the examination site."

Thanking them a final time you head to the address given to you. There's a police blockade surrounding the construction yard. As you approach there's actually a motley crew of fighters standing outside, as well as a gathering crowd. You spot Mokichi near the edge and he waves you over.

There's a full spread of colorful fighters of all shapes and sizes. There's quite a lot of them who are foreign to Japan, much like yourself. "What's going on?" you ask the Fighting Vicar.

Today Mokichi is actually dressed as a Vicar. "This exam is open to Kengan Association members. Corporations are scouting out which fighters they'd potentially like to rent out. Or support the fighers who are acting as examiners."

Mokichi looks at his rather nice wristwatch. "We've still got some time before your exam begins."

(Due to limited time you'll only be able to select up to two options)

>A. Tell Mokichi about your experience with Jiang
>B. Meet some of the veteran fighters who are around
>C. Meet some of the new generation fighters who are around.

Hey everyone. Picking things up again in a little bit. I had some extra work this week, so things got delayed.
>>
Considering you've already told Mokichi your history regarding your Mother you decide to keep him updated on the situation. You tell him all about your experience with tracking down the former assassin Jiang. Your mentor listens carefully and pats you on the shoulder as you finish.

"I'm glad you decided not to hurt him more than was necessary. If I'm ever free and you want someone to come with you on your investigations, I'm more than willing. It sounds like not all of these assassins have changed for the better."

"Thanks, Mokichi." you say with a soft smile. He's only been your friend for a short while but you really get the impression that he's a good man. It could have something to do with him being a Vicar. It's easy to forget when he isn't in his garb because of how down to earth he can be. "By the way, could you point out some of the fighters who have recently debuted? I was hoping to meet some people and get a read on the competition."

He points out two figures in the crowd.

One young asian man with short black crewcut is shadowboxing. He's wearing white trunks and a white tanktop. As you watch his punches there's an oddly 'stretchy' quality to them. They seem to go farther than his frame would ordinarily allow.

"That's Kaito Fujioka. He's 3-0 right now. Very well rounded. He's a medical student and the heir to a pharmaceutical company based in China. If I had to guess, he's probably here to help someone take their exam. I don't believe you'll be going up against him. Your opponent is somehwere around here, though.."

Kaito has a short black crew cut. He seems to be several inches taller than you and slightly bulkier, but overall your frames are similar.

Mokichi's finger moves to another young man, this one sporting a jujitsu gi. He has tanned skin and a thin mustache.

"That's Leonardo Silva. One of the Supernovas, an elite group of newcomers. Out of all the fighters here he may be the best grappler. That's including me."

You raise an eyebrew and glance at Mokichi. Although you didn't dedicate much time to grappling with him, he still made use of it at times. Mokichi has great technique and great physical strength to complement it. If he's willing to humble himself like that, Leonardo must be the real deal.

Mokichi smiles. "What's with that look? Worried he's gonna choke you out?"

You grin back at him. "He has to put his hands on me first."
>>
>>5784618

Your teacher nods, crossing his arms. "That's right. There may be plenty of monsters here, but you've got your own unique attributes. Don't let yourself be intimidated."

He slaps you on the back, urging you forward. "Go introduce yourself. You're the newcomer, after all."

As you stumble forward you catch yourself and step into a stride. Kaito is closer so you head to him first.

With each step an electric feeling of anticipation begins to build within you. You casually place your hands in the pockets of your red zip up tracksuit. A few of the fighters and their mentors turn their heads to watch your approach.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFWtLMi03_g

Those who have the insight can tell from the way you walk. This guy is strong.

As Kaito is shadowing his attention turns to your approach. When the two of you make eye contact time stop. Like two cars racing towards a head on collision, your resolve is mirrored in one another's eyes.

You're both thinking the same thing before words are even exchanged.

"Yeah, he's strong."

"My name is Billy Yang. My mentor tells me you've debuted recently."

You extend your hand out for a shake. He smiles and meets it, shaking it warmly. His grip is relaxed. "That's right. Nice to meet you. I'm Kaito Fujioka. Pretty soon, I'm going to be a legend around here. Are you here to take the exam?"

He holds the handshake, not letting it go just yet.

With a nod you answer. "Yeah. Shouldn't be a problem."

His grip tightens and he pulls you in a bit closer. As calm as can be he continues. "Good. You better pass so that I can crush your cocky ass in an official match."

A buzzing alarm rings out before a loudspeaker calls from nearby. It's the Purgatory referee Shina Alisa holding it. "Mentors, bring your examinees to the one of the testing booths. Fighters line up as well. You'll be matched and directed to an examination site somewhere else in the city."

As she finishes speaking you and Kaito break the handshake. You simply glare at him during this time. Part of you would prefer to fight him right now, but unfortunately it isn't the time or place.

"We'll see what happens." you say, turning away and walking back to Mokichi.
>>
>>5784619
He sees the scowl on your face and chuckles. "I see that went about as well as I expected. Glad you two are getting along. Let's move it."

You go over to the testing booths and are given an address. A fleet of private cars approaches and begins to take small groups to examination sites.

As you and Mokichi are driven to the next location you get a look at the driver from the window. He's wearing a black suit and is totally jacked for some reason.

"Is this normal?" you ask.

Mokichi shakes his head. "A large amount of fighters have applied this season because of the recent cross-promotional events with Purgatory. We've had to start testing in groups. Of course the Kengan Association has no problem with investing in it's fighters. I've been able to set up a comfortable life for myself and Elena because of it."

You ponder what you would even do with a shit load of money on the ride over. Maybe fix up the worst parts of Chinatown back home.

As you're approaching Mokichi calmly begins to talk. His hands are folded within his robes and he solemnly looks downward. "Billy. I should tell you I already know who your opponent is. His debut match was actually against Kaito. He only goes by his former ring name, 'Satoshi', a one-time champion boxer. After losing that match he went on a three-win streak, all finishes by knockout."

You grin. "A boxer, huh? That's more compatible for me. Glad to hear it."

Mokichi chuckles. "Don't be too happy. This isn't a boxing match, and Satoshi isn't an ordinary boxer. You'll see what I mean when we meet him."

For the rest of the ride you quietly contemplate his words. As the car parks, you step out and find yourself infront a small exercise studio by a river. When you walk inside Mokichi begins to greet the officials from the Kengan Association. They'll be your judges for the exam, along with Mokichi himself.
>>
Across the wooden floor of the empty studio you see a young man shadowboxing.

He's wearing white boxing trunks and shoes. His skin tone isn't particularly pale or tanned, and his black hair is short except for his slightly messy bangs. He catches a glimpse of you watching and you make eye contact.

His face is incredibly sullen. For someone warming up for a fight he seems to have no excitement. From here you begin to notice a lot of scarring around the man's eyes in particular. He wordlessly turns back to his shadowboxing. He's simply warming up and doing simple combninations, but his skill is evident. His physique is shredded. That said, he is small. The man appears to be about 5'5" and probably in the realm of 120 Lbs. You're confident you could easily overpower him.

"Did you catch all that, Billy?"

"Huh?" you say, turning to Mokichi.

He pinches the bridge of his nose before continuing. "The rules. This will be a mock-Kengan Match. That means the only foul is intentionally trying to kill your opponent. It's necessary that you win the bout to pass the exam, by the way. Just do what comes naturally, Billy."

"Right. Got it."

Back at Yamashita Trading Co. Kaede looks up from her desk at Kazuo. "The exams should be starting, right? How do you think Billy will do?"

Kazuo looks up and thinks for a moment. "I hand picked his opponent myself. We'll know if he's right for the Kengan Matches or not after this. I think that's more important than if he wins or loses."
You're given a few minutes to warm up yourself. During this time you formulate a basic gameplan.

>A. See how your boxing compares to his. With your reaction speed it may be possible for you outjab him. Take the initiative and engage him on his terms.
>B Try to engage him purely at kicking range. Don't give him a chance to establish his range. Take the initiative but fight him on your terms.
>C. You don't actually know too much about him. Play it safe and let him have the initiative, only reacting defensively until you get more information.
>>
>>5784622
It is NOT necessary to win the bout in order to pass the exam. What a crucial word for me to leave out.
>>
>>5784622

We're the longer fighter and have great handspeed. This shouldn't be impossible...

>B Try to engage him purely at kicking range. Don't give him a chance to establish his range. Take the initiative but fight him on your terms.
Trying to outbox a boxer, especially one used to a variety of weight classes, isn't a great idea. This, on the other hand, will let us see how well he's learned to deal with kicking. Does he have a solid defense, or does he just try to win fast?
>>
>>5784622

Honestly, even if this goes bad, starting with boxing is probably the best way to feel out his style. When his gimmick is made known, then we can start switching things up.

The official who will be refereeing the bout steps between the distance across you and Satoshi.

Your opponent continues to lightly shadow as he turns to face you.

"Are you both ready?" asks the ref.

Satoshi stops moving and holds his stance. Slowly you bring your hands up and crouch lightly. "Yeah."

The ref swings his hands down. "FIGHT!!"

Instantly Satoshi begins to close the distance by dashing towards you in a straight line. He takes several smooth steps before he roughly enters long range and kicks off of the ground with a full step-in.

Compensating for the distance he's already moved you take a step back until he begins to enter your range. You snap out a side kick at his midsection. It hits him dead on in the gut. The impact feels like a rock, but in spite of that Satoshi skids backwards from the blow. It stopped his momentum more than damaged him.

With a glance you look at his eyes to check his response. He has that same sullen look. Not even bothered.

Whipping your leg around you put your entire body into a snappy roundhouse kick with your rear leg. The boxer throws up his high guard, but a combination of your strength and frame blow the smaller man off of his feet. Satoshi falls to the side and his shoulder thuds against the wood so hard he actually bounces. Trying to follow up you stomp forward whilst shouting, cracking the floor.

Satoshi scrambles backwards and leaps up to his feet, dashing forward again in the same manner as before.

This time you blast him in the face with a side kick just as he enters his range. Now that you're starting to connect you begin to throw your blows with more confidence.

You were aiming for your jaw, but it seemed to be slightly off. You hit Satoshi in the forehead instead. The impact of the blow reverbates all the way through your leg and back into the ground. He may be a really tough boxer, but as he sails through the air, you're confident few men could get their brains rattled like that and still go on fighting.

His head even bounces off of the studio floor as he lands flat on his back.

With a grin, you turn and gives Mokichi a thumbs up. "I thought you said this guy was-"

"Look in front of you! The fight isn't over!" shouts Mokichi.

"No coaching." says the other offial.

Quickly you spin to look at your opponent. In the short time that you glanced Mokichi he's already back on his feet again and charging at you in that same manner.

What the hell? Doesn't this guy have any other strategies?
>>
>>5788514

You catch a glimpse of Satoshi's eyes as he rushes into range. No doubt about it, they're glazed and unfocused. You certainly rocked him with that shot, so how is he still fighting?

A bead of sweat dripped from Mokichi's forehead as he watched. He knew that if he'd given away too much information about Satoshi, Billy would have had an unfair advantage in this fight. "Come on, Billy.."

You shoot off a rear front kick and turn your entire body into it, once more pushing the smaller Satoshi off his feet with by hitting his high guard. Even though he was knocked to the ground it doesn't seem as if that particular blow did much damage.

As he comes into range you snap off a whiplike lead roundhouse kick, getting frustrated with Satoshi's strategy. Or rather, lack thereof. "Fuck off!"

Your foot slices across his temple with a clean impact and sends him down to one knee in front of you.

Standing your ground you glimpse down to get a glimpse of his condition. You can't get a good look because he's looking at the floor.

Suddenly Satoshi springs off of the ground from his kneeling position. With one leg he was able to send his small frame sailing through the air as an overhand right comes crashing from an odd angle.

It was only because of your reflexes that you're able to anticipate such an unorthodox blow. Even with just one foot on the ground and a body not even reaching that of the featherweight class, Satoshi's punch hits home like a sledgehammer. His fist strikes your guard and sends you flying, skipping across the ground once before rolling and unsteadily getting to your feet.

This is defying a lot of what you thought you knew about martial arts. How was he able to hit you while concussed, without even looking? How is he able to absorb the damage of your kicks? And why does he punch so damn hard?

You're sweating a little bit. Even though you did most of the attacking, you know that if you keep kicking him like this without a finish you'll begin to slow down at some point.

This exam might be tougher than you initially thought. It's time to change things up a little.

You've gotten a bit more of a feel for what Satoshi's style is like. How do you want to proceed?

>A. Use your speed, reactions, and length to lead him into hard punches. Not as taxing on your stamina as kicking.
>B. Start to kick his liver. He may have a granite chin, but if you attack the body he'll begin to slow down.
>C. His style is too predictable. Use your Jolt Punch as he comes into range, and show him that you have explosive punching power as well.
