You are JACK "JACKAL" JACKSON, a MYSTERIOUS HOODED BOUNTY HUNTER.

In the desolate and unforgiving expanse of the arctic wasteland, you move forward with an air of relentless determination. You conceal your identity beneath your shrouded hood, leaving only piercing eyes to glimpse the harsh frozen world you traverse. Your mission? To track down a notorious fugitive named JEREMIAH COLT.

COLT has incurred the wrath of authorities and criminal syndicates alike, amassing bounties on his head that rival the glacial heights of ANTARCTICA itself. With wanted posters plastered across Afroasian cities and Antarctic outposts, you have embarked on a relentless pursuit, driven by the promise of a hefty reward.

It is a cloudy night. In the distance, you see several outposts scattered about the TRANSANTARCTIC MOUNTAIN RANGE.

You survey the barren expanse of the Antarctic wasteland, searching for the nearest outpost. You can see plenty of distant lights of the outposts buried deep in the mountains, but you can't seem to— wait. To the right of a wide, ice-coated river, a single, small outpost comes into view: PORTER STATION. It stands like a solitary sentinel against the frozen horizon, its lights like stars in the night. You travel towards the outpost, your footsteps crunching though the pristine snow.

You ponder removing your helmet. You realize you don't even have a helmet on! What a waste of brain activity.

You decide to enter the closest building. As you walk in, the atmosphere shifts from the cold, desolate Antarctic wilderness to the warm and inviting interior of the outpost. The building has signs of it once being a canteen for the original settlers, but now it has been repurposed into a makeshift bar, a hub of activity in this frozen frontier. You enter quietly, the heavy doors swinging shut behind you. The low hum of conversations and the clinking of glasses fill the air, creating a stark contrast to the icy silence outside. You take note of the clientele in here: researchers, arctic miners, fellow bounty hunters such as yourself, and settlers who have taken bartending and brewing jobs. You tower over most everyone in the room, but no one seems to pay much attention to you.

You make your way to the bar counter, your stride determined. You take a seat, hood still concealing your face, and lean forward, locking eyes with the bartender. Without uttering a single word, you convey your desire for a drink through a series of terse grunts, your gaze fixed firmly on the DALMORE 62 SINGLE HIGHLAND MALT SCOTCH and the liquid within it. A expensive rarity way back when.

The bartender, well-acquainted with the peculiarities of the outpost's clientele, raises an eyebrow but doesn't question your unspoken request. With a word of understanding, he reaches for the bottle, pouring a shot of that silky smooth scotch. The glass clinks softly as it's placed before you, and you take it in hand.

Finally, breaking the silence, you clear your throat.

"I extend my gratitude for your service."

"No worries, mate. You've got good taste."

"Thank you."

"You another one of them bounty hunters?" You cock your head sideways.

"Another one?" you ask. The bartender points his thumb at a man in a cowboy hat with a helmet on. He seems to be reading some papers.

"This one and a couple others like him showed up just a few minutes before you did. They were checking out that there bulletin," he says. The bartender points directly above the man in the cowboy hat to a sign with several memos and papers displayed on it. "The others left a while ago," he continues. "But this one is still around."

You make your way over to the digital bulletin board. There seems to be news, weather, time, advertisements, and— aha, WANTED LISTS. Seems like one is already taken care of, but your mark: JEREMIAH COLT, is still up for grabs. You eye that pricey reward. That'll set you up for quite a bit, you think.

You signal to the bartender for another drink and turn your attention to the cowboy.

"Fancy a game of cards?" You offer. The cowboy doesn't look at you, opting instead to continue reading through his papers. You attempt to take a seat next to him with your drink in hand.

"Buzz off, CIRCUIT-SLAGGER." His monotone voice buzzes through his respirator as he swivels in his seat to face you. You do get a better view of his helmet now. It has a large visor and respirator. The surface is very smooth, the transition from visor glass to metal almost invisble.

"I'm sorry?"

"You heard me. I'm not interested in your little distractions."

"Oh, I didn't mean any—"

"Sure, you didn't. Don't make me repeat myself." He turns back to his papers.

How will you proceed now?

Circuit-Slagger [sur•kit•slag•er] noun An insult among bounty hunters, referring to the BOUNTY CIRCUIT, a global union of licensed hunters, implying that someone is in the lower ranks of the CIRCUIT and by extension, a bad bounty hunter.

"Certainly. All the better for me, I suspected your card skills might mirror your proficiency in pursuing targets." The cowboy freezes. He slowly turns to you, his right hand subtly shaking in anger.

"You wanna repeat that again, ORBIT TRASH?" As he gets up, the bartender gives you a worried look, your SCOTCH in hand.

"I'm sure you're not hard of hearing." You point a metallic finger at the cowboy. He growls, slamming his hand on the bar counter as he gets in your face.

"Hard of hearing— I'll SHOW you hard of hear—" The bartender gets between you both.

"GENTLEMEN!" He exclaims. You and the cowboy don't move a muscle, but you both stop talking. The cowboy cocks his head.

"You wanna play cards? Fine. Name a game. You've got until the blasted storm is over."

What card game will you choose?

Orbit Trash [awr•bit trash] noun An insult originating in the early 22nd century. It implies that the target is not only undesirable but also disposable, much like debris left in orbit around a planet.

"Go-Fish." You state in a matter-of-fact sort of way. The cowboy just kind of... stares.

"Go-Fish? What are you, twelve?" He hangs his head down and sighs, his breathing sounding almost robotic with his respirator. "Whatever." You could swear he was muttering something about taking you too seriously, but you can't really tell.

You take a seat and take out your SLICK DECK OF CARDS. Just as you're about to deal the cards, however, the BARTENDER steps in.

"Let me do that. The last thing I need is you two fighting over if you dealt fairly." He takes the deck from you and deals you both FOUR (4) CARDS. You stare your opponent in the eyes... well, I mean, you would, but that visor is very opaque. You hope you're staring at him in the eyes.

TUTORIAL
As an entire game of Go-Fish is not quite practical in a quest based scenario, I've devised a "simpler" roll based game.

You have FOUR (4) CARDS, of which, you choose one. Then, you will roll a 1d100 to see if either you or your opponent win a full BOOK. The best of the first three (3) rolls will be selected. Once a BOOK has been won, the original card in your deck will be replaced with another. You win by winning THREE (3) BOOKS before your opponent does.

Ranks will determine what roll you need to succeed, and suits will help/hinder you with +/- modifiers.

Here are the required rolls for each rank:
2 - >10
3 - >20
4 - >30
5 - >35
6 - >40
7 - >45
8 - >50
9 - >55
10 - >60
J - >70
Q - >80
K - >90
A - >95

Here are the modifiers for each suit:
CLUBS -20
DIAMONDS -20
HEARTS +10
SPADES +20

>tl;dr: Select a card and roll a 1d100 (+/- any modifiers).

>Example: ACE OF SPADES, 1d100+20
>Result: 70+20=90, 90<95, so the roll fails.

You have:
TWO OF HEARTS
THREE OF SPADES
JACK OF CLUBS
QUEEN OF HEARTS

As the snowstorm rages on (an element that was decidedly cut from the previous video update due to it looking like shit), you find yourself held at gunpoint by the COWBOY BOUNTY HUNTER, your CYBORG HEAD unveiled to his gaze. The urge to eliminate this quite annoying threat once and for all pulses through your veins like a relentless drumbeat. The harsh reality, however, is that you sit there weaponless and unequipped, vulnerable against this armed menace. The cowboy's steady, cold-eyed stare lingers as he says nothing for a moment. This doesn't feel like the same person from the bar; he's quiet and calculated. As the icy winds howl around you, you grapple with the consequences of launching an impulsive assault in this treacherous environment. Is it a risk worth taking (roll a 1d13), or should you bide your time for an opportunity to turn the tables in your favor?

As you stand there in the snowstorm, contemplating your next move, you get an idea.

"Have you ever pondered the emotional turmoil of a black hole? Do they ever feel lonely out there in the cosmic abyss? What about quantum entanglement? You think it's the universe's way of playing a cosmic game of telephone with particles? Actually, in the grand scheme of the cosmos, do you reckon Earth is just a tiny speck or the stage for the universe's greatest drama? There certainly doesn't seem to be any real evidence of sentient extraterrestrial life. But if you could have a conversation with a sentient alien species, what's the first question you'd ask them?" You drone on and on, pacing your words in unnatural ways. The cowboy doesn't seem to react, but you notice his trigger finger momentarily becoming less steady as he grapples with your eccentric line of questioning.

With the wind now blowing in your favor, you seize the moment. Swiftly, you circle around him, your footsteps masked by the howling storm. As you approach from behind, you throw your cloak with deft precision, obscuring his vision and disorienting him. In a sudden turn of events, you stand before him.

"You are a coward." Your cyborg body is now exposed to the frost and the falling snow, but you fearlessly continue. "Guns are for those who lack the courage to face their foes in honorable combat. Real men, on the other hand, engage in the art of melee fighting, where bravery and skill truly shine." The cowboy doesn't respond as he's grappling his way out of your cloak.

You have the upper hand. How will you proceed?

The cowboy successfully escapes your cloak, ripping the arms that had tangled up and caught him. But he's not ready for you. As he regains his footing, you seize the moment to swiftly deliver a well-aimed kick to his COWBOY CROTCH. The blow strikes true, and he crumples to the ground, though his stoic demeanor prevents any audible expression of pain. His iconic giant hat tumbles from his head, landing softly on the snowy ground. Turns out his visor stretched all the way to the back of his head. You wonder why that is.

As he lies on the snowy ground, his voice strained but determined, the cowboy continues, "Please. She needs me," he implores. "She's out there, all alone. Take what you want, but spare me, please."

You grab the cowboy’s shirt and twist it tight as you hoist the incapacitated bounty hunter in the air. You simultaneously grab the large hat from the snow and place it on your encased brain. You can’t really see yourself right now, but you’re sure you look quite dashing.

"Who is this 'she'?" you demand, your voice unwavering. He coughs weakly, then replies.

"I can't tell you." There’s silence for a second. You scoff, your patience wearing thin.

"You should exercise caution when crossing paths with a bounty hunter, especially if you had someone you cared about.” You pause. “You really do suck at Go-Fish, by the way."

He attempts to apologize, his words strained. "I didn't mean for things to turn out this way. But when I saw you following me, I had no other option. I didn't want to involve you.”

"I only tracked you down because you stole my gear," you retort, your patience wearing thin. “You want to pin this on me after what you pulled?” He coughs again, his gaze shifting.

"I didn't steal anything." Your irritation grows, and you proceed to shake him down. Bowie knife, rope, grappling hook, GPS device… all his. His gear falls to the snowy ground, while yours remains absent. Did he not steal your gear after all?

You continue to shake down the cowboy, your efforts apparently yielding only a single napkin from the PORTER STATION which falls from his pocket, landing silently on the snowy ground. Frustrated, you reach deeper into his pocket, grasping the only thing you can find. With a triumphant flourish, you hold it aloft, declaring loudly, "Then how do you explain this?!"

You seem to retrieve the July edition of SPICY SEMITES, a Jewish homoerotic pornographic magazine, from his pocket. The magazine's cover boasts a provocative image of a near nude Jewish gay man, and upon closer inspection, you find a phone number scrawled alongside a message written in Hebrew and a dried lipstick kiss. Your quizzical gaze slowly shifts from the magazine to the cowboy, who remains awkwardly silent.

He shifts uncomfortably, his silence palpably awkward, before finally speaking up.

"That's a, uh, clue."

How will you proceed?

"Explain what this clue means, right now." The cowboy grunts at your demand, but sighs and gives in, looking around at the desolate Antarctic landscape before beginning to share his story.

"I'd been on the search for Colt weeks before the bounty on his head was made public," he begins, his voice tinged with a sense of weary determination. "My investigations led me to a city in Northern Afroasia. There was an upscale gentlemen's club; a flamboyant house on the surface but in reality, it was the kind of place where secrets tended to be whispered in dimly lit corners. The joint was the source of some transmissions by a codename 'J.C.' Nothing else seemed out of the ordinary, but I couldn't ignore it. That's where I got the magazine."

He leans in, the shine on his helmet reflecting not only yourself but the intrigue of the story. "So, I found myself an informant, a male dancer who apparently had a knack for being too observant. The number on the magazine is the request line for his services. He told me about a peculiar customer – a man who'd saunter in towards the end of regular hours to use the facilities. He never indulged in the entertainment, just ordered the occasional drink."

The cowboy's voice drops to a hushed tone. "I noticed that this mysterious visitor's arrivals coincided with those transmissions. A bit of cross-referencing and tracing, and it led me here, to the unforgiving Antarctic wasteland, where I've been scouring for answers for the past week."

You turn the conversation back to your missing equipment. The cowboy shakes his head and replies, "I swear I didn't lay a hand on your gear. Someone else might have taken it when you were distracted, if you didn't lose it yourself, of course."

How will you proceed?

You drop the cowboy, and as he momentarily stumbles, clutching his aching groin, you realize that continuing the conversation in the midst of the snowstorm would be dangerous. Besides, you'd rather he not die. It seems like he's telling the truth, and you've taken something of a liking to him.

"We should find shelter to weather this storm, and then we can pick up where we left off," you suggest with a stern, yet pragmatic tone.

The cowboy, begrudgingly acknowledging your words, nods and grunts in agreement. You retrieve the items you'd shaken him down for, and as you do so, he points to the snowy hills near the looming mountains. You obtain the WINTER BOWIE KNIFE, 25 FOOT ROPE, and ANTARCTIC GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM.

"There's a short-term shelter over there that I've been using," he informs you, "I have a real bunker, but it's too far from here to get to on foot, especially in this weather."

With the storm's fierce winds picking up, you both begin the arduous journey toward the makeshift shelter. The snowy landscape stretches before you, unforgiving and desolate, as you trudge forward, the cowboy at your side.

As you and the cowboy struggle through the storm, the shelter looms into view.

With a collective sigh of relief, you both make your way inside. As you close the door behind you, the howling winds are finally muted, and a faint sense of calm settles within the cramped space. Taking a look around, you notice the large windows covering the walls of the room, the icy landscape you both have traversed in plain view.

Now, back to the situation at hand...

You decide to break the silence, taking the COWBOY'S JAPANESE PAPERS out from your cloak.

"Can you explain these papers?" you inquire, showing him the pages he had left behind in your earlier search.

The cowboy squints at the papers for a moment, and while not visible through his visor, his surprise is unmistakeable. "Did I leave those behind?" he muses. He shakes his head and continues. "Those are the transmissions I was talking about earlier. I can't read them, but I've got a translator working with me on them. I know these words here mean some location," he points to a phrase containing the word 'Dabi' (荼毘) several times over. "This one, 'Kouma,' (小馬) refers to himself. It's strange, but that word is used several times where referring to himself wouldn't make much sense as well. But that's pretty much all I have about it."

You contemplate the information, then follow up with another question. "Do you have any other clues?"

The cowboy nods, then leans back in the shelter, taking a moment to look around. "There's plenty back at the bunker," he says, "but it's just stuff he may or may not have interacted with. I don't think I have anything of real value for tracking him down."

You take a brief pause, your eyes scanning the shelter's interior. "I'm curious. How did you find this place in the first... uh, place?" you ask.

The cowboy shifts his gaze back to you. "I was blindly hunting Colt down and thought I almost had him, but it turns out I had mistaken someone else for him. I quickly realized I had no idea where I was, but as luck would have it, this place was a little ways away from where I was. I've been using it for the past week."

With the conversation circling back to your shared pursuit of Colt, you decide to make an offer. "Why don't we help each other?" you propose, offering to cooperate.

The cowboy grumbles in response, shaking his head. "I don't think so. I need him alive, I'm not going after a bounty like you lot are."

"Well, how long do you need him for? Couldn't we simply find him, you do what you need to do; then after that, I take him and cash in the bounty? The contract is 'dead or alive,' after all."

The cowboy ponders your proposal for a moment. "How can I know this isn't a trick?" he questions, still wary.

"I guess you'll just have to trust me. I could always just deliver another targeted kick to your testicles and force you to comply," you jest.

After another brief moment of contemplation, the cowboy nods and offers his hand. "Alright. Partners, then," he concedes. You shake on it, sealing the agreement. The storm continues to rage on.

How will you proceed?

You really can't help but ask, "...are your testicles okay?" Your question is met with a look of stifled annoyance from the cowboy.

"...yeah. They'll be fine. They've been through worse."

A brief silence lingers between you two.

"Hang on, I don't believe I've ever asked for your name."

The cowboy, perhaps to distract himself from his discomfort, rises and retrieves a new hat from a compartment below, placing it on his head. "You can call me Mr. Soul."

You stifle a chuckle. In fact, you have to physically hold yourself back from letting out a gut laugh.

"Mr. Soul, indeed, that's a rather..." You pause as you catch the cowboy's blank, unamused expression. "...interesting choice. It possesses a certain gravitas, I must say. Has a distinguished ring to it," you continue, attempting to salvage the situation. The cowboy's reaction is inscrutable behind his helmet, but you suspect he might be rolling his eyes. You press on with the conversation, "Very well, Mr. Soul, why indeed are you pursuing COLT? If it's not for a pecuniary motive, what, then, is it?"

The mood inside the shelter suddenly shifts, and the cowboy takes a seat once more. "I'd actually prefer not to talk about it. Let's just say it's related to family." You immediately backtrack.

"Of course, my apologies." The atmosphere becomes awkward, and the relentless storm outside shows no sign of abating. You decide to change the topic, asking, "Any idea who could have purloined my gear?"

The cowboy remains silent for a while before responding, "Well, let's see. There were several other bounty hunters in the bar. It could've been any of them. Again, this is if you didn't lose them yourself, which is still a possibility."

"And I didn't. It has to be someone else," you assert. Silence fills the room again. After a moment, the cowboy, deep in thought, speaks up.

"Maybe it was more than one person?" He looks and presses his hand to his temple. "Think about it. One guy stealing your things in bulk would've been obvious. Walking back and forth to get things one at a time would be too. But, if a group of them walked by, each taking one thing, it would be a lot more conspicuous. But when could someone have—" Then, as if struck by a realization, you both look up at each other in unison.

"The card game!" you exclaim simultaneously.

As the storm relentlessly continues to howl outside the shelter, you and MR. SOUL debate the next course of action.

"It's paramount that we identify those responsible for the theft of my equipment," you asserted. "They cannot go unpunished; it sends a message that I tolerate such actions." He leans back.

"Getting your gear back is a big deal, sure, but I gotta ask if it's worth the trouble. Grabbing some new stuff would be a lot easier. Don't forget, this place is no cakewalk. Supplies we got are scarce, and the wild out there is pretty damn dangerous. Going after your gear might be asking for too much trouble than we can handle."

You lean forward. "Those tools were meticulously chosen to withstand the harshest conditions. With all those bounty hunters buying up all the gear from every depot and outpost, I doubt we'll find much of the same quality."

"Oh come on—."

"My gear is intricate," you interject. "Each piece serves a specific purpose. They work in tandem with one another."

"Look. Maybe the stuff we find won't be as fancy as your original equipment, but time is against us. Don't forget why we're here."
