Hello, there! Glad to meet you! Welcome to the world of Pokémon! My name is Pommier. People affectionately refer to me as South Kalos Professor. This world… …is inhabited far and wide by creatures called Pokémon! For some people, Pokémon are pets. Other use them for battling. As for myself… I study Pokémon as a profession.
You see, South Kalos recently had an influx of rare Pokémon a bit like the ones of the Holon Region : δ (delta) Pokémon!

But enough about me. Your name is Danny. You're a 13-year old young trainer that get her hands on her first gym Badge, the Fire badge.
You moved out from Petalsburg City, Hoenn to South-Kalos, a region that is home to an unbelievably large number of Pokémon species, including newly-discovered ð variants of existing species.

Right now, you are running. Running like your life is depending on it. Well, not your life - Danny's. Your friend, a boy sharing your first name, had a woeful encounter deep in the Dark Woods. So, alongside to Matthew, you're running as fast as you can to the nearby town of Belloco, to catch the soonest Mega-Drifblim North.

You can't help but smile upon looking the sprayer with its cartoon-comical looking Croagunk giving a thumb-up. The intern drawing the logo was probably a fellow 4-Corner. Your mother is definitely scared of said Venom-based marketing, so the product must be especially good for her to recommend it.
"Alright, this is a promotional free sprayer. Potions themselves are those pads that you have to dissolve into Water then spray - trainers usually get one ready and refill while their Pokémon are moving in fight those are allowed. This comes from the time we hadn't miniaturisation Tech so wildly available, thus a need for compact medicine carry. Nowadays, it still decrease costs of transportation and storage - miniaturisation is widespread but not free after all."
Your phone pings. Matthew notification. Time to go.

You get Ralts out of her ball.
"Hey you. How are you feeling?"
She looks at the window. You feel her vertigo. Then, she looks at the people and Pokémon. You feel her anxiety. She sneaks against you, hiding herself from the gaze. She feels safe with you.

You let her cuddle you until anxiety tone down. Then, you put her on your laps.
"Alright lass, I think I'll call you Fay. Do you like that?"
Joy.
"But first, I'll clean you a bit..."
You get a piece of Gauze and oxygenated Water out of your first aid Kit. You damn your lack of foresight - and of Bucket, which would had tremendously helped you right now. You start cleaning her, disinfecting gashes and wound.
It stings.
You shush, and tell her everything will be fine.

"Pretty good. They're getting some ready - they even accept us to come with them - something about not spitting on manpower and us looking skilled enough
- it would be better if they started the search without us...
- I know. Operator was sorry, they're spread thin, then he rambled about Pokeball shortage and how it is good for us Kids to have an "unofficial internship" so that we could put our balls in the service of the country.
- That's... awfully poor taste. Someone is missing.
- Yeah, the guy rambled quite a bit, he sounded exhausted..."
As promised, two rangers are waiting at Clerk-Mountsmith.
"Hello kids. we are the Search and Rescue team. Let's move on.
- So this guy, with a lack of communication skills, is my partner Emeric. I'm Estelle"
The man grunts.
"Let's not lose more time. Somehow, someone thought ensuring Rhyhorn spectators don't have the silly idea to cross fence was more important than searching a missing teen. Go, Arcanine!
- Go, Rapidash!"

Thanks to the ranger, you rally the target point fast. Their imposing fire-type mount - that you were allowed to ride - deter the wild Pokémon, letting you dive uninterrupted in the Dark Woods, outside of labelled paths.

Once you make it to the coordinates...
Nothing. Wood, moss, stones, a smell way too comforting for the seriousness of the situation.
It's been close to 3 hours since you received that message after all.

You follow the trial.
"Your friend was followed. Traces of pursuit. Faint ones. Still present"
You're pretty sure you would have missed that if the ranger have not pointed it outright to you. You track those additional signs...
>80 DC met thanks to Observer Skill
Did they vanished? Following a guess, you backtrack. There it is : More marked traces, then nothing.
"You okay Danny?
- You found the boy?
- No, no, was speaking to my friend. They're both called Danny by happenstance.
- How unpractical.
- To answer your question, maybe? there are no more traces of the ones responsible for the pursuit after this point...
- See that marks? Flight. "

Giving that Danny's trail is still making its way toward the inner depth of the woods, that mean either they drop the pursuit, or got scared by something.
You watch your surroundings. It seems you're quite deep. The complete lack of nearby road - and that Frostmoth in the distance - send chills in your back. You definitely stepped away of Human dominion. You're in the unknown of the mysterious, ominous, Dark Woods
A Phantump floats in front of you.
"I really hope it's not you, Danny".
That does not really help with the tension you didn't acknowledged before. You wonder about spraying you with a Repel, but some of the forest resident might feel that as a threat or an aggression - it says on the package that it works on "Weak" Pokémon.

>Use a Repel/Don't use a Repel
>Did you figured out what happened earlier today?
>>
>>5738610
>Don't use a Repel

before i start to try and unravel things why the fuck does that Skitty look like its super high? Is it a Ghost masquarading as a Skitty? Or some Psychic type? Is it an illusion? Can Fay dispel it?

Now for my Crackpot Theory of what could have happened.
>Danny stumbled across some people he found suspicious while climbing through the brush looking for pokemon. that much seems evident by the traces we found earlier.

>THe suspicious people likely had repel on to not be bothered by Pokemon in their dealings.

>When he tried to get away they noticed him and gave chase. Likely till their repel gave out or they sumtbled onto something that scared them so they left.

>the suspicious people might have stolen the egg of pup of some strong Forets Guardian Type pokemon and that started coming up when Danny ran away and caused a commotion.

then he died and was reborn as a Pokemon to save the world from the Time Gears being stolen.

Or maybe he stepped on the turf of something very strong and maybe aggressive.

Hes probably following his newly befriended pokemon back to where they sleep! Pokemon are our friend and we can learn from them! Its not like our parents teach us
>But what about Joggnon, the robber pokemon
Yes yes I know some of the rarer pokemon are dangerous but we're not gonna find those for no reason - and then again , maybe there is
I want to see where the pokemon meet, its probably somewhere with water, an old village , shrine or one of those ancient "fact uohry" ..
>>
>>5738806

You walk deeper in the wood, avoiding as you can the present Pokémon while still following tracks - you feel like popping a Repel would be a provocation right now.
That Skitty is uncanny. It tracks you with its googly eyes... Is that an illusion? You have one way to be sure.
"Espresso, is that Skitty an Illusion wielder?"
Definitely, no. You keep an eye-lock on the thing, while moving forward.

"So... What you think happened to Danny?"
- I'd say the suspicious people have stolen an egg, or a young of a strong Forest guardian - hence the more heavy footprint? Danny fled, the commotion lured the strong one out, the villain disbanded, and Danny is probably happily chilling with his new friend!"
That doesn't fit. At all. No traces of struggle, or damages a strong Pokémon would have made. Still, you prefer to believe that.
The best alternative is him getting kidnapped, with the false tray created one way or another. And there is the more probable case. The one that makes the most sense. The one where he lies motionless in the depth of the wood after an encounter with something dangerous - Pokémon or Human.

You're passing near a Morelull while the Skitty slowly fades in the mist. You don't understand that Pokémon's whole deal. He's really a Skitty - Espresso confirmed it. A spy? But the gaze was so void...
>>5739470
Oh, a river.
"We should wash in there to hide our sent!

There is an illusionist at work here.

Maybe a Zoroark. But that woulf have to be one powerful pokemon. Or is it one of those mist pokemon from Sword and Shield?

Only other guess would be a strong psychic/Ghost type. I just dont have the internet connection nor time to search much more.

Maybe pokemon famous for leading teavelers off the path. Similar in nature to the legends of swamp light beckoning travelers to their doom. I forgot the english name and translate doesnt load... so yay.

You keep walking, your trip sparkled with the lights of the occasional Morelull. Despite your foggy mind, you feel something is weird. The first tell was that strange-looking Skitty.
Your one-track mind gets back to an illusionist Pokémon. That would be a mightily powerful one.

But, no. Espresso would have felt it.
Psychic type maybe? Or a light-bending move, Double team?
Unless it's smell-based? Spores?

>>5738610
Spores. The track of Danny follows regularly spaced Morelulls. The Skitty was looking high as an Altaria because he was high as an Altaria. You immediately spins 540° - you missed the first stop. That was a bit too much; after all you're a bit high. You're feeling a bit better just by putting the right word on your mind state.
"Miss Ranger? Do you feel trippy? 'Cause I think we might be under the effect of something like Spore...
- Oh, that's why I was feeling like a princess dancing in the woods... Chancey, Heal Bell!"
Just as the Care Pokémon klink in his egg, pulses clear your mind. Trees are straight once again. That's better.
>Lost the "Danny in the starry sky with Deoxys" Debuff

A few minute later, you reach a glade. Glade is full of Morelull, with an huge Shiinotic in the middle.
Under it, Danny is sitting, red eyes, giggling.

If Espresso can use illusions with its spirit powers then it could disguise itself to get in there with us so we can get him out there.

Have the others on stand by just in case things go bad. Have the Chansey make sure they stay level headed with its Heal Pulse. Maybe have Fay out so she can project nice and calm emotions onto the Pokemon so they wont mind us.

You let out two of your Pokémon : First, Espresso, for her illusions.
"Alright, gal. I'll need you to disguise us while we go in to fetch Danny..."
Espresso tilts her head, visibly confused.
"Danny-Male. Like Pokémon, humans can share a name and need nicknames to differentiate themselves."
Espresso nods. She starts weaving her illusion around you and herself.
"Fay, could you try to keep our emotions in?"
Your Ralts cry? meow? weakly - she's still suffering from her wounds, despite the care you provide her a bit earlier.
"How do I look?
- Like a Shiinotic with two Morelulls hoping at your side.
- Remember that speed is of the essence here... Each step forward means a bit less sanity
- Speaking of, allow me to..."
*Ding*
After another mind-clearing heal-bell, you step in the glade.
Each step makes more colors swirl before your very eyes.
Despite a suspicious-looking Morelull, you progress until you reach Danny, sitting under the tree-sized Shiinotic.
You shake DannyMale on the shoulder.
"Camon pal, we gottago"
The dangerous-looking light Shroom glares at you.
Fay and Espresso anticipate your needs, flare your aura up, making the strong Pokémon let go of his prey
>Slight increase of both Pokémon's bond

You pull Danny up. He follows mindlessly. You feel the aggressiveness of the suspicious Morelull
"Hold... on"
He shuffles, and slam his fist on the nose, or lack off, of the Morelull, which disappeared.
"There we go.
- Hihihi you didn't told me you was a magician!
- What magic? Am I a wizard?
- You're a wizard Danny!
- Good. I will conjure food. I've got munchies. Maybe we can extort snacks from the three green giants?
- They're not giants, you're just small.
- Rude. I'm just a late-grower."
You stare at the three green-wearing forms that gesticulate. You wave at them. Gesticulations intensifies.
Something clicks in your head.
"Move, we need to get out!"

"Chancey, Heal Bell!"
Your mind clears.
"Let me check... You both seem fine - transportable at least... Hold on, did you asked your Ralts to dothings in that state?
>External roll of Fay's working overtime while beaten : 86
She seems fine. As fine as it gets regarding circumstances. Meaning, if we were to do nothing, it will delay her recovery. You have been careless - this could have really hurt her, you know?
Anyway, just to be on the safe side... Chancey, soft-boil
"
The egg of Chancey gets out of her poach. It glows in gold, raises in a parabolic trajectory, shrouds Fay which immediately appear to do better.

"You're done with emergency care? Let's get away. Fast. GO, ARCANINE!"

You share Emeric's ride with Danny. Trees zooms around you, wind strike her fingers in your hair.
"How you feel Danny?
- Very weird. Exhausted. Headache. Laugh muscles sore.
- What happened? What did you see?
- Was looking for a Shroomish. Then I saw those guy. Four of them I think, wearing dark garments with hoods. One of which was carrying a unconscious guy in Karate Kimono.
They saw me and start running toward me. So I went deeper inside. The one carrying the Karate man was quickly left behind. The two other, however... I ran. Following the Morelull track, at some point they were not behind me any more. But the lights were prettier and prettier. I felt, like, I had to move forward toward the lights...

Out of the woods you are. Sun is high in the sky - a bit before 15.
"Wait, why are we not going into town?
- Orders. What your friend saw is outside of regular Ranger's paygrade. We're bringing you toward nice peoples. Don't be afraid."

You recognize the road. The three of you utter no words, and before you know it you're in front of Captain Blitz.

You debrief the day.
"I want you to know what happened is far behind your weight category. Those people are dangerous. Really dangerous. Do. Not. Attempt to engage them.
Also, why were you alone? Never travel alone. Anyway, things went quite well... You, Danny Girl. How are you doin' on your last orders?

- Regarding Mom? Less worst. For next gym? Why should I challenge Normal especially?
- Setted up a special something for you once you beat it. And close to your mom to work on your relationship.
Anyway, you all need rest. Dismissed.

First thing first, you take your phone and message you mom.
"Everything fine. We got him out of trouble. Will be back in two or three days. Always were with qualified adult Rangers."
Did she just left you on read? Passive aggressive.
You focus your attention on the news, animated by Nicolas Gullmorant.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this debate between Marine Lestylo and Jean-Luc Mixsleeve on the issue of immigration and border openness. Ms. Lestylo advocates for the opening of borders to skilled workers, while Mr Mixsleeve argues for strict immigration control to protect workers already within the territory. We will now hear their arguments. Ms. Lestylo, you have the floor.
Thank you. Kalos needs talent and skills to thrive. By opening our borders to qualified workers, we strengthen our economy and encourage innovation. Controlled immigration will help address labor shortages in certain sectors.
What naivety, Marine!
I don't allow you to call me by my First name, Mr Mixsleeve. I expect you to uphold the respectful standard of an elected official.
What naivety, young Lady! Opening borders without discernment will jeopardize the jobs of our workers. We must protect our citizens and ensure they are not in competition with foreign workers with unfair Pokémon team advantage.
You're exaggerating, Mixsleeve!
Deputy Mixsleeve. Talk about double standards, Miss Lestylo.
Enough deflection. We're not talking about replacing our workers, but about bringing in skills that we lack, mainly due to the government politic of Pokeball distribution. We can control the flow to meet our needs. Prioritizing Kalosian in Kalos. Not a steady influx of Ma'Greban drowning our culture in their
Control the flow? As if it were that simple. Multinational corporations would exploit workers even more. You're the puppet of big capitalism! Are you working for your Elector or Castelia Stock Exchange?
That's utterly absurd, Mixsleeve. Your inflexibility harms our economy. You'd rather see Kalos stagnate than allow new ideas and skills to come in. Kalosian come back in.
You simply want to ignore social and economic realities, alongside international retribution if that were to happen. Your solution will only worsen inequalities and endanger our social cohesion, and risk a war!
You don't understand anything, Mixsleeve. Your vision is narrow and protectionist. You don't want to see that managed immigration can be beneficial in the long run.
Jean-Luc Mixsleeve: And you, Marine, would rather destroy national solidarity in the name of pseudo-prosperity. You only defend the interests of the elite.
[bThank you both for this passionate exchange. It's clear that you have very different opinions on this issue. Unfortunately, we don't have more time to continue this debate.

Oh, a message from mom! It's... a thumb-up reply to your message. You can't help but feel it's even more passive-aggressive than leaving you on "read".

"Young Miss? I finished your team check-up... Your Ralts is recovering quite nice. What happened to her?
- Dunno. Caught her like this.
- She should be in peak condition tomorrow. So should be your other team members."

You thank the nurse, and take some time to think, Pokéballs at your belt.
What would had happened without the rangers? Emeric's keen insight, Chancey's mind-clearing Heal Bell and the mounts' speed... How would you had done your little rescue without them?
Facing your limits, you resolve yourself and swear...
>You need to get stronger. Training heavily your rooster. Might makes things Right.
>You need more Pokemon. You are one of the few, if not the only, trainer unhindered by the heavy ball limitation. You plan to leverage it to always get the right living tool for the job.
>You need to step up your contribution to society. How will you sleep at night knowing you have Pokémon idling around when you could land them right where they might make a difference?

Danny is not some brute making things right by might i believe. And Pokemon are not just tools but friends and partners. they should be. for some of them are more than capable of ruining humanitys day if we were to abuse them.

I don't quite get it But maybe it's because it's over 40°C where I'm living, can you reformulate and expand on that feeling of yours?

Basically that the whole 'Might makes Right' is a pretty simple way of seeing it, but it's very much the standard moral compass in pokemon fighting/society.
Basically I'm saying I'm curious to see where this idea goes to when reaching its logical conclusion, if that makes any sense.

>>
>>5743106
>You need to get stronger. Training heavily your rooster. Might makes things Right.
>>
(You) get lost in thought, while a fulgurance graces you.
An harsh truth, maybe inspired from the heated debate on screen. Still the truth.
>Might makes things Right
The reason that the most famous people are so powerful, (You) reasoned, was because their power allowed their rise.
Take Hoenn, for example. Steven Stone was said to be the strongest trainer of his generation. Any problems would make the mystery-seeker to appear, and solve the situation.
Then came Archie and Maxie. Undoubtedly strong. Individually, less than Champion Stone. Still, strong enough to only stop wrecking havoc in the region when they decided to.
There is something to say about their strategy : rising so many disciple, making them focus on the few same Pokémon allowed to create an army of high-threat goons.
Of course, their teams all share weakness. Weakness countered by the atypical strength of individual trainers : were they not outlaws, they could easily rack up 5 or 6 badges each. That does not even start to take into account sheer numbers.
The Champion couldn't defeat them. Didn't. Brendan did.
A single person, less than 17, Mawile'd his way through the region. Crunching every obstacle on the road, he stopped armies. A monster.
A monster that became an elite trainer, fighting other monster in worldwide sports tournaments. Making Hoennians proud.
Hoenn does not lack strong trainers after all. Him focusing on International scene, while Steven and gyms leader keep the occasional inside threat in check, makes the region wildly prosperous.
In the end, Brendan chose sports. He had no obligation to. No one could have stopped him becoming Hoenn's Kingpin if he wanted to. Yet he didn't, luckily for (You) and other people that grew in Hoenn.
>Might Oblige
Pokemon are not just tools but friends and partners. In particular, your team. Your partners.
They deserve the best. Not being mere leaves blown away by the winds of fate.
So does the people of this region. The unfairly spoiled of their right to catch and raise Pokemon. The one attacked by strange people. The struggling everyday man, such as Danny's uncle, David.

Times comes for the meal, which is silent with Matthew being the only effort at conversation - Danny needs to recover, you're still deep in thought.
>>
What's the best (You) can offer society? Initially, (You) started that trip to get enough badges to get into Engineering cursus.
That's a good thing, really. How many time Devon's scientist have been attacked by stronger trainers? Sylph's employees too - there's something about a famous terrorist attack in Kanto fifteen years before your birth.
So, being strong and have a team without a shared weakness to Fire, Ground and Fighting combination seems mandatory. But do (You) really still plan to get into Engineering?
You're less sure. Being a professional trainer? It is hard. Stupidly so. But (You) won't let that stop (You) : your life will be what (You) choose it to be, not the scraps (You) will pick up.

>Danny can't answer any more at the "What you want to be when you grow up" question.
She's still seriously considering Enginnering. But she needs to prove herself not being a "professional trainer" is by choice.

>Danny progressed one rank in Stratege Skill
>Danny progressed one rank in Coach Skill

You're in your bed, still pondering. Your ascension toward unrivaled might have been challenged. You've done nothing for it yet. This is how one remains weak. Unacceptable.
That mean first order of business changed. Defeating Noah became your most important duty right now.
You could try and catch something. A Magnemite maybe, or maybe something else : Aron, Aerodactyle, Alolan Geodude, Togedemaru crossed your mind. That's not the path for you. Not yet.
Your path is currently one of blood and sweat. What your Pokémon are lacking right now is pure might, required to expand their movepool. They need to fight and win, although Apu have an acceptable strength.

You spend the day on the Road 2, where you careful match the Pokémon you meet to your team members, debriefing the matches and making sure each of your partner learns from the fights.
That also allow you to meet a panel of local Pokémon.

Bubbles : Togedemaru, 2 Trubbish
Cinnamon : Scatterbug, Sentret, Skwovet
Dixie : Yungoos
Espresso : Skitty, Rattata
Fay : Timburr

Unsurprisingly, your Pokémon's result are directly correlated to their strength.
All of them are quite winded; their state seem normal after a day of activity.

Danny is taking a slow day. You fully endorse that. Matthew went to town - you still owe him a trip for a catch either at Resortlast ruins or Aemilius Overpass, but that will have to wait.

But you start really getting how to do it. This time, you're pretty sure that fire hardening, indeed, turned the failure into success.

You go to the counter to get your team back.

"Cinnamon, Tackle!

The Staryu hit like a Machamp. Still, Cinnamon is not down and can - will - wear it down, as much as he can.
>missed DC by a lot
However, after a second water gun...
"Cinnamon, Tackle!
- Fred, Recover!"
Your Eevee builds speed, while the Staryu is glowing in yellow. That's bad. You can't let him heal.
Cinnamon collapses.

"It's over.

- The wooper. It took two bites from Bolty-Boo. He won't do much."
Who do they think you are? They're in for a nasty surprise.
"Go, Bubbles! Use your secret move!"

The Wooper gather fighting type energy, and flail in the Staryu. Your opponent is too flabbergast to react. Can't blame him - that move hits at arms reach. It took you a while to understand how it worked, but the energy lands a nasty punch. Without contact. Dealing physical damages."

"Not taking the easy way out, uh? Velma, Finishes it with Psybeam

Despite your tension and focus, your voice is exceedingly calm. Bubbles burries in deep, avoiding the surge of Psychic-type-Energy.
"Another. Wait for it to finish its attack, then strike."
Bubbles rockets out of the ground, pelleting the Gothita.
The Gothita still stands. And lands her nasty hit.
The two Pokémon wobbles, groggy.
"It was closer than I though. Still, there's no way she'll win - Wooper are slower than Gothita after all. And that's assuming he's still standing"

You hurry toward the counter, to get your Pokémon checked. You're especially worried for Dixie and Cinnamon
Once your Pokémon are getting checked, you turns back toward the man that issued the challenge.
"You fought well, young miss. And you, Norville, must be ashamed. All of your Pokémon are supposedly stronger and more trained than her. How did you lose? Don't bother to answer. You'll get one month of training seclusion once we're back."
The dejected look on Norville's face means this is not the fun kind of training. Well, sucks to sucks you guess.
"And you, Miss... Let it not be said Fabrice, a Chosen One among the Light Children, gets back on his word. You faced bravely adversity, and triumphed. This time. I can't promise it always will be. I can provide you guidance. Unless you prefer a favor to call at some point in time. Last, if you prefer wordly possession, we can wire you to settle the debt."
What do you want?

"I choose Guidance.
- Wise. You'll join us tomorrow for breakfast at 7. We'll rally the temple - should be less than half a day of walk. I'll train you for two days. How much you can pick up will depend on you and your skills."

And just like that, they're all gone - except Norville.
Just in time for you to get your team back from the nurse
"You two fought? Even if you won, miss, your Pokémon suffered a lot... Way more than his. Your Eevee and your Bulbasaur are the most concerning ones. The Eevee should take it slow for a couple days - light training is alright, don't get it fighting. Your bulbasaur is in a way more concerning state. Petals on the bulb have been torned apart. With proper rest, she will fully recover. Proper meaning no fight, no training, not even carrying her around in the Pokéball, and daily Pokécenter treatments."
You thank the nurse, and get your team, Dixie out of her ball.
She, indeed, is in a sorry state, croaking weekly to you.
Only one thing to do. Grabbing your Pokénav, you ring Mom
"Hello sweetie. I forget to press "send" on your message, but everything's okay. I'm not worrying or anything."
>External roll for mom : 99!
Hey, her mood swinged toward the "good day mom". Nice timing
"Well, I am. Long story short, I was challenged. I won, but Dixie suffered a nasty hit... She needs a week of rest, low activity, and daily Pokécenter care. Could you...
- Ohh the poor little darling! Of course sweetie..."

Your mom rushes toward Belloco's center, getting ready for the transfer.
That's a relief. You were lucky amidst your infortune : Dixie is the only one of your team member that your mom tolerate enough to ask for this favor, else you'd have been anchored at a Center for a week.
>Dixie have been benched

"Sorry for hurting your 'mons, gal"
It's Norville being a fair sport. How do you react?

got a demo of what it's looking like here : https://imgur.com/gallery/4PDeF3a
Coded everything from scratch, using SDL2 and Boost. Including Networking.
For now, battle royal with Link's awakening mechanics. Plan to expand in the perfect LAN game : a multi-choiced zelda-like with cooperation of team that compete on wider level against each other (each "team" starts in one world, which are copies of each other. The goal will be to "clear" the world as fast as possible to connect the world to the multiverse, conquer other worlds, levy troop, assault other player's worlds)
This is what I'll do if i get filthy rich one day : place money in stock market, pay me a salary with dividends to work on that game
>>

>You have a bad feeling about those guys - maybe telling Blitz about it could be a smart move

A Magnemite would be the perfect choice. A little assistant for your electronic-based tinkering. Something mundane, not hard to take care of. Perfect choice for a normal girl, turning into a normal woman, becoming a normal top-engineer or top-scientist.
This is what you have wanted for a long time - well, that and a a Rotom, but they are frickin' almost impossible to find, right?
You stop lying to yourself and keep petting the Electric-type Cyndaquil.
Rolled the best possible outcome for the default reaction of this specific pokemon
At the second you cross his gaze, you felt a kinship. A desire for strength and overcoming adversity. The two other are long gone now.
The little guy is brimming with power. He's petable for now but you'll soon need high-voltage gloves for playtime. So long, subtle electronic debugging tool. Welcome, portable power plant.
>ð-Cyndaquil joined the Party in your Crafted Ball
Ok. He had enough pets, so he headbutted your ball. Consent much little creep?

Kingpin Munchlax wants to fight!
>Kingpin Munchlax sent out Zigzagoon!

Wait, that's a first. A Pokémon acting like a trainer!
"Go, Gauss!"
Your ð-Cyndaquil is delighted. A spark spawn from the tesla coil on his back, then an other, and more and more, until they create a shroud of electric-arc quills.
Perfect opportunity to learn what he can do.
"Alright Gauss, show me what you got!"
Gauss starts the fight by sending a weak electric jolt, creeping toward the Zigzagoon dashing forward upon the Kingpin's order.
Looks like it stop the critter right in its track.
"Chain with an attack! Right now!"
Gauss gather normal type signature and propels himself on the movement-impaired target.
Yeah, you know that energy signature. Tackle.
What you didn't knew is that it was enough to take down the Zigzagoon.
>Kingpin Munchlax sent out Zigzagoon!
The black-striped one show fear and scuttle back. So, the second one, lankier than the first, zig-zag forward.
"Gauss, do you have other moves?"
The Zigzagoon dashes forward upon the Kingpin's order - déja vu much?. A burst of light makes it blink, and miss its target.
A jolt of electricity - packing a punch this time - fells on the unlucky goon. Said goon which connect a lucky hit on your new Pokemon. Wait - not so lucky : A spark jumps from the tesla coil, burries in the fur, and keep lingering around him.
A second attack fell him.
>Kingpin Munchlax sent out Zigzagoon!
The Munchlax slaps the unwilling black-striped one, forcing him onward.
Gauss looks at you in a "that's all I got" way.
"Camon, pal. Don't be disappointed, that's plenty enough options! Use your Tackle before he can lend an hit on you."
Gauss node, gather quickly Normal type energy, and dashes on the target.
Wait, you know that one - it's Quick Attack!
And a fight-ender. Munchlax looks at you, at the Cyndaquil, at you, run away exceedingly fast.
You're ready to pursue him and make him face the repercussion of his actions, but a rise of power stops you in your track.
Gauss is shrouded in a blinding yellow light.

His body swells, elongates. The electric field intensifies and intensifies - no more bare-handed petting.
You felt Something more changed - but what exactly? Can't put your finger on it.
>Congratulation! Your ð-Cyndaquil evolved into ð-Quilava!
Waitwaitwait. You were not ready for an evolution. You can't deal with an evolution. Can you control little guy Powerhouse correctly? What do if he doesn't behave?
Anyway, the fight exhausted him - and it's god damn late already - you have to wake up mad early tomorrow.
>Crit fail consequences : lost too much time for proper research on the Light Children
After a way-too short night, you make it to the breakfast.
"That won't do."
The scary leader - Fabrice - have a judgemental glare on your outfit. He snaps his finger. Norville, which have became at everybody's beck and call, dashes away, then come back with white and blue robes.
"Let me gift that to you. You can't enter the temple with that profane clothes of you"
You didn't knew one could make any word sound so much as a spitted insult. You're not quite sure how you feel to get a mandatory garment - but at least it's not a gendered thing. Refusing might lose your favor, or if it is not, draw much attention on yourself once in the temple...

You quickly get back in your room to put on the given clothes.
At first, you are adamant you only put up with this to fit in. At worst, a change option when nobody's nearby - you only have two set of clothes after all...
That's what you thought before trying them at least.
>Regarding comfiness and easiness to wear : External roll of 96/75
The garment is made of a smooth fabric, a light caress on your whole skin that sends shivers in your back. The Yukata-shape reduces the dress-up time into a mere handful of seconds. And you feel quite pretty in that.
You step forward. The silk stroke all your skin, like a tender lover. The thought flash in your mind, shocking you a bit. You cannot not imagine it for a couple blushingly embarrassing minutes of sensory overload, until you manage to stumble into the bathroom and spray water right on your face to break out of it.
So yeah, quite comfy and easy to wear - can you make it a main part of your daily attire? But this would draw many gazes... But do you care?
You still make it in time to join the group walking away to the west, toward the Volcano Park.
On the road, you decide to...

On one hand, we have the "don't give a shit about a ball gang (>>5747922 >>5747986)

On the other hand, we have the "clearly feeling the limitations of a heavily restricted rooster twist on the usual PokeQuest" (>>5749685 >>5750684)

Sometime, I feel that giving you so many Ball-obtention sidequest was too generous. But thanks to the second gang, I'm feeling better about it.
>>

Thing in that sutuation was that the ball and kibbles could be replaced with one or two steps and some time.

Replacing the Pokenam in comparisson would have been much more difficult, cost intensive and time consuming with all the personal Data that was inside that thing.

So I apologize if that felt like i was disrespecting the limitations. My priorities were just on something different at the time

The man is too intimidating. Yeah, better talk to Norville - ask him what to expect.
"Ah, you got offered Robes? It took me two weeks of following to be offered some!
- So, this is some kind of Privilege?
-Getting in the temple without would have been unthinkable. It's forbidden for Outsiders after all...
- Wait, I'm an Outsider, so why can I come?
- Chosen ones can bend rule a little. And Fabrice saw something in you it seems. I think he might try to fast-forward you to Inner Disciple
- Inner... Disciple?
- Isn't that great? Lucky you!
- Perhaps, Maybe? I don't know what's an Inner disciple anyway.
- Well, the first ring of people are the one donning the robes and knowing the rites to partake : Outer disciples. They're allowed in the temple, and extraordinary residency upon invitation.
Then, you have Inner Disciples. They can live full-time in the temple. Among them are the Daybound - tending to the daily chores of the communal life - and the Nightbound - more axed on prayer, meditation and receiving Guidance.

- And what's your role in all of that?
- Inner Daybound disciple. Cook. Joining the temple was the best decision of my life : I thrive in the structure they give me, I got personal Training from good trainers - thanks to them I just won my second Gym Badge!"

He's one of the nicest guy you ever interacted with. Aside from Fabrice, treated by respect and deference by everyone, the other are also chatting and laughing while walking together.
They seem to be really close to each other - Disciples (from both sex) often brush another one's arm, hold hands (it's the first time you see what you assume non-gay men - based on a few Kalosian Kiss you've seen them giving to a few of the lady - holding hands)
You feel quite well. Despite not knowing you, and being older, all of them are considerate and thoughtful.

"Norville, could I get your Number?
- Sure thing!"

And just like that, the morning is over in a flash. And here you are, in the mountains, in front of a three-meter tall wall circling a vast property, with a wooden Tori-style arch
Everybody steps in. Almost everybody.
"Young girl. A word."
You stop right in your track, and face the man.
"As promised, you will get Guidance. Personal training. I'll give you one more choice : you'll benefit more of my teachings if you know of the core tennets of our... Philosophy. "I'll take the middle ground.
- Very well. Very reasonable. Here's how the next couple days will go..."
You start directly with a teaching of said ...philosophy. Fabrice takes you through the main entrance, enter in a Kyoto-style building with wooden floor and paper walls.
He makes you wait a couple minute, coming back with a 30-something guy.
"Danny, let me introduce you Yves. He's tasked with personal introduction of our Doctrine.
- Nice to meet you."
The man that lead you in immediately leave you alone with the medium-height, short-hair, glasses-wearing man, which sit down.

"Nice to meet you. As the Chosen One said, my name's Yves. This time is not a formal, rigorous class, but more an open exchange and discussion.
Feel free to interrupt, and ask questions, as frequently as you want.
"
That immediately put you more at ease. You're still distrustful, and on your guard, but this does not seem like you know of the classical cult handbook...
"So... What is you faith exactly?"
Yves let out a small, amused jiggle.
"Common misconception of outsiders. We're not a faith. More of a science-based communal lifestyle with star-inspired spirituality... We can break it out in 10 main tenants : "
He proceeds to present them in the rest of the afternoon.
1 - Empiricism and Evidence-Based Thinking
2 - Critical Thinking
3 - Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence
4 - Scientific Naturalism
5 - Scientific Spiritualism
6 - Protection of Religious Freedom
7 - Advocacy for Scientific Literacy
8 - Open Inquiry and Rational Discourse
9 - Community Building
10 - Artistic, Scientific and Battling Excellence

That was head-spinning. And definitely different of what you expected. Next, is the dinner.
"You can do that in one of two ways. Join us for the communal dinner with you and your Pokemon, or grab the necessary and eat on your own in your room."

- Best to be under the starry sky guidance, isn't it? Now, if you excuse me, I'd hate to be late for the meal..."

Yves leave, and soon a young woman comes, give you a food tray, and leave "Privacy is important; have a good meal. Now, I'm going - I'd hate to be late for the meal..."

You release your team - the food provided is well enough for all of you. Fresh produce, stew, rice, cakes, berries. You bite into an apple - overwhelming taste. The stew's temperature is just right, the rice is lightly flavored.
You certainly didn't expect to eat that well.

Winner : polite decline.

"... I'll think about it."
Fabrice face display contrariety and anger for a fraction of second, before rebuilding his mask of perfect control and fake benevolence.
"Very well. Meet me at 3 for your lesson."
Yeah, as far as this people go, you feel pretty sure of two things :
First, the Disciple are far to be as bad as portrayed in the media. Second, the chosen ones - at least this one, but you feel it's fair to generalize - have an extended agenda. One you can't trust.
You're pretty sure you want to make an in-depth report to Blitz. Getting briefed beforehand would also have been nice - maybe your intel is worthless and they were looking for some specific pieces of information?
Your head spinning, you fall asleep.
Your Pokénav buzzes. Time for your training.
You get out of the futon, heavily blinking to get rid of the eye-boogers sealing your eyesight shut.
You step outside. The sky is beautiful. That make Fabrice a bit less chilling.
"Alright Miss. Time for me to pay my debt. Get your Eevee out."
>>5751290
>84
That goes quite well. Under the man's guidance, he opens Eevee's perspective toward a new move.
"That one is called Glitzy Glow. A Psychic-energy move only available to Eevees with a deep bond with their trainer... To be honest, your bond is still too week for the move to work completely, and there is more to it... But after tomorrow's training you will be able to use it in battle."

You get back to your room, with a breakfast waiting for you. You devour it, then fell back into a small sleep, before another session of "Doctrine" with Yves. You remember the incentive of "open exchange and discussion"...

i've had some thoughts about our team and what can we build towards, imma write up some stuff while we wait for a post

>Apu (delta croagunk)
Our faithful starter and a pretty underperforming one at that. Besides being less cool that the original it loses its interesting typing for plain singular fire type, but this one at least keeps the original's ability Dry Skin instead of the dogshit abilities it has in Insurgence. Sadly, without something like Thunder Punch there's zero reason to have this thing against a water type and if we do it's probably because we fucked up. I'd say it's bench material but it is our starter so I doubt you guys would back me up on that. We could have had a Delta Snivy instead of this.

>Bubbles (regular wooper)
The undoubted Ace of the team. Pretty good typing and an ability that makes it a mainstay in many smogon tiers, definitely a cornerstone of the team. A flying type would be great paired with her.

>Cinnamon (eevee)
A classic casual trap, not only is this thing absolute trash and complete deadweight that you traded a Happiny for, none of its evolutions are worth the hassle of having it on the team until it DEEMS to evolve, except maybe Umbreon and just barely. At least in this case it has its partner moves which makes it a bit interesting, and since this quest has Insurgence fakemons there's a chance for it to get more interesting... so just that saves him from being bench material.

Dixie (regular Bulbasaur)
As far as grass types go this one is pretty alright, it's got utility and it's potential Mega is actually good so more reason to keep it. Still, it suffers the blights of a grass type and for that she'll probably get benched

Espresso (delta Purrloin)
Another of the rare delta forms, has a great typing and an ability with lots of potential for shenanigans, this one is definitely a keeper.

Fay (regular female Ralts)
another casual trap, I'm sorry to say that outside ruby and saphire this thing is total dogwater. A Sharpness Gallade miiight be worth it but even that's a stretch, and out of the question since she's female. At least it can make for a nice Teleport taxi, and a healer too way in the future. Still bench material though.

>Gauss (delta Quilava)
A pretty, pretty cool alternate form from an already cool pokemon. I think I'm not supposed to spoil shit but I'll say this thing can be a powerhouse, but we need a Drizzle mon to be sure. We got Politoed and Pelipper to choose from, of which Pelipper is less shit but with the added fakemon we can get two other options. We already missed out on delta Snivy but there's one Clovermon out there that could fill the spot. I gunning for that one.

In short, we should build towards a rain team. Also, look for the aliens too.

While these are fair if harsh points, I'd say you're looking at things too much from the game perspective. Take a pokemon like Vaporeon for example and its ability to literally turn into water. Do you realize how useful that could be? How much that could help in battles and getting out of bad situations? And also the potential of Gardevoirs being able to summon black holes and generally how insane psychic or fairy types are in general, as well as other dex things we haven't even grasped on to yet.

it might make it less likely to die alright, but unless it can turn us into water too I don't see the whats big deal
> And also the potential of Gardevoirs being able to summon black holes
with a darkinium z a great many other pokemon could do it too

sadly it will require a nat100 for it, start manifesting it with meme magic and it might happen

Basically what I'm saying is that we can't treat this like the pokemon games, there's a new dimension to take into account. The Vaporeon melting into water thing could be insanely useful, just think about all the potential there with move synergy and outside use.
>Darkinium Z
If pokeballs are this hard to come by I don't want to imagine how difficult getting our hands on Z-Crystals will be.

i did say Espresso has plenty of potential, and that Fay is worth to keep around for utilitarian purposes. Sadly, I doubt Apu has any saving grace.

>How did this organization begin?
"Azad went order a Revelation under the stars - Life forms descended, modified his DNA to make him better and grant him Miracle-granting skills.
Of course, people didn't believed it at first - Exceptional claims. But we got our Exceptional proofs
"

>How did you start here and what did it take for you to get your current rank?
"A few years ago. I am a long-time friend of Fabrice. He claimed he've seen something out of this world - I followed. Rank just went with time spent and involvement with the group."

>Do you all share pokemon collectively?
"What? Of course not!"

>You mentioned following a star based spirituality, are you guys astronomers or astrologers?
"Neither. Stars are the craddle of all life - sun is a star among many other. We are exactly Panspermic - believing all life originated from Outer Space, and propagated toward planets.
And that there are... certain life forms... watching, and acting, impacting our daily life.
"

>Are there many of these places where the Children meet and congregate?
"Every city worth its salt got a small temple. We are legally registered under "Religion" - mainly for tax benefit and closeness of status, even if it's not accurate. We are in the main Temple.
Of course, there aren't any in Clerk-Mountsmith, due to the proximity.
"

>Are there any fees for involvement in the group?
>Where does this organization get its funding?
"Voluntary donations. Of work or money. For example, I'm a Physiotherapist. When I'm working, I'm setting aside between 10 and 15% for the Light Children. There is also a communal life participation fee.
It's a smart financial move actually : a lot of our members are Welfare recipient. They can eat good, and have adequate lodging for two-third of their stipends, instead spending it all on subpar similarities in a town.
Living in the middle of nowhere, with tax exemption, where everybody can do the chores he or she prefers for the community allow us to really get well off despite donations, really.
"

>I was wondering... Do you have UFO? Special Pokémon nearby?
"Yeah. Some Pokémon "hunting grounds" are open to our Disciple upon graduating to Inner and Favored. We also have some other really interesting boons given to higher-tier disciple.
Alas, that is not something I can share the knowledge with you. Not yet at least - but rejoice, with your robe, and curious spirit, you can always rest and be fed in one of our temples...
And if Fabrice bringed you in with special tutelage and robes, you are an Outer Disciple yourself, if you want to think of yourself like that. Of course, it's no obligations.
"

What would be a 3500 words update without a missing Picrel?

The rest of the day goes through like yesterday. The strange schedule mess up a bit with your sleep and global energy, preventing you to get a bit more of spare time.
After the second day of training with Fabrice, Cinnamon can reliably use that new move of his. It's looking like the Power Level of Tackle, only with Psychic type energy.
The sun is setting, sign you've spent two days and two nights at the temple.
"Very well; you two learned fast. Your Eevee won't do much better for now - he'll have to grow before being able to master that move more.
Now, I think I fulfilled my part of the bet. You'll have to go after eating. Unless you've thought of my proposition..."

"I've been thinking a bit about it. I heard of your hunting grounds. I want a trip in.
- You certainly knows how to negotiate. Tell you what, I'll pull some strings, and get you to Inner Disciple before next week...
- That's not what I asked for, or what I offer. 1 day of work. One trip to the field. I'm leaving tomorrow."

Another glint sparks in the man's eye. Annoyance and anger or respect for one standing her ground? You're unable to tell. You know you're in position of strength in that bargaining. You won't step back even one millimeter. Sucks to be him, you guess, because he really wants the Balls. You also feel he will overwork you as much as he can in the timeframe.

"...Very well. What will you need?
- We're starting the timer, alright? My full work, and next night I'll get hunting?
- Yes. Now : What. Do. You. Need!"
You placate a shit-eating grin, knowing you have a good night of sleep waiting for you while he gather the wood-berries : it is known that Apricorns are quite the rarity.

A beauty-sleep and breakfast later, you find yourself facing a small mountain of them.
"What are those?
- As we were requested?
- To pluck green, unripe Apricorn and prevent them to bloom?"
The disciples blemish.
"Sort. Those are good. Those are a waste of Nature's boon."
Three quarters of them are good to throw. What a waste. Still, there remains a fair deal of them. You start to work your magic. With a rate of success around 60%, you created 10 Crafted Balls for the light children.
Yeah, you got off quite easy - sore hands from crafting, but that's ok. Next time they might stockpile and organize better.
They kept you under close watch and scrutiny. Still, your mind gear start to race, and fomenting illusion-based plans to embezzle a few Apristock for your personal use.
No point today - scrutiny is too high. But next time? Maybe you can pull it out.

As promised, Fabrice lead you to the Hunting Grounds after a well-appreciated meal...
"Halt! The access to the starfield is heavily restricted!
- So, Inner Disciples are bold enough to oppose the Star's will talking through a Chosen one?
- My mistake, Chosen one Fabrice. But still, it's a restricted area...
- Restricted even though the Eidolons will it?"
That leave the guard stuttering. Fabrice turns around.
"Good luck. Now, I have things to tend about that require my immediate attention - like explaining to the Prophet and other Chosen One why the Eidolons require your presence on the field..."
The amount of power a chosen one seems to wield over the cult member is astounding. Maybe a convenient tool for later?
Anyway you step in. At first, you don't see what's special with this starfield. You blink, and the landscape seemed to change immensely.
Dear Arceus, that's overwhelming.

>>

i think we can keep Ralts around for her abilities for at least a little while till she is a bit stronger maybe evolved once to make sure she can keep mom calm with her telepathic abilities when she would otherwise explode. maybe even sooth her suffering mind a bit. but i wouldn't want to expose our poor little Fay to it right now.

Also Dixie stays in the party once she has recovered. her Gras poison moves could be very helpful for type coverage.

The evolution of Ayyalmo also has a steel type so it could also fill another niche against psychic, ice and stone types.

Your head spin. You don't know what to chose - not the Nidorans nor the pink bubblegums or the Staryu. Not the sentient tourist giftshop memoriabilies, no matter how shiny they are. Not the Minior - they're balls. This Pokemon is just a ball. Crap tier. You briefly consider the Swablu, and shift your attention toward the real aliens one.

Difficult choice, you step forward.
"Hey there, Purple guy?"

Rolled the second-best outcome in my reaction table, something that would roughly be 92% in a distribution biased toward 50. Again.

He's coming and hovering over your head.
That's a sign he's the one - the strange grey alien is laughing at you, the other spinned madly and fucked off.
You are getting Really confident in your ability to waltz in and get whatever rare encounter to join your crew. You feel like the Lord of trainers!

"Well, it's settled then. I'll call you Hari!"
You smile idly, remembering a bit the elderly lady that taught you a bit of Hoenn native language, shared with Kanto, Johto and Sinnoh.
And just like that, all the other Pokémon vanish with the rising sun. You walk away, passing the gate with the guards.
They stare at you, and you feel they're still unsure wether or not letting you go through was a good idea.
"Here's for you..."
Hey, a Sandwich to eat on the go! Amazing.

You start walking toward Clerk-Mountsmith, while eating your sandwich with berry jam and Bird-type chunks. Your Pokénav turns into a cheek massager - you saw that in a mail order catalog; apply on cheek for firmness.
You didn't gived it much attention despite wanting to conduct research. Past days were eventful. Still, you feel like you might not have given enough time to your team, in particular newer additions...
Your friends are afraid about your well-being, with you off the radar for one more day than expected. So is your Mom, first sending you Dixie Pics, growing more and more concerned.
Speaking of, the said friends were preparing a break-in to extract you from the dangerous cult, and seems not so far.

"FREEZE. HANDS OVER YOUR HEAD"

1 - Get your cheek massager out outside of other's sight
2 - Insert 2 AA battery, turn on your cheek massager, tune it to desired speed

A part of you wants to release Fay and Teleport. But you opt to freeze and raise your hands.
You're tackled down. Arms bent on your back, handcuffed. You feel hands taking away your Pokeball, and you catch a glimpse of the people around before they tie a blind fold.

Your heart is beating madly. You're in the dark, you're roughly handled, you have no idea who the people were or who you are.
In the bottom of your heart, you wonder if you made a bad choice. One leading you to your demise, making you a powerless spectator. Your apprehension grows.

Alright, trolling over, here's the rest of the update
Just wanted a bit of the in-character felt dread to spill upon players

Still roughly handled, you're taken through stairs.
You're starving, thirsty, exhausted and badly need to relieve yourself.
"Well, well, well. We have a lot to discuss."
You hear a click, and feel your hands free. You hastily clutch and tear away the blindfold.
In front of you, a table filled of Pokeball, and Blitz.

"What the hell happened?
- That's my line.
- Am I in trouble?
- Depends."

You feel immense pressure under the gaze of the man. You won't let tear wet your eyes, despite how small and miserable you feel.

"...You really have no idea, do you? Here's how it looked on my side : a trainer leaving the home-base of an highly suspicious organization we couldn't get any agent in, its Trainer Card glitching through Outer Heavens about an unmanageable bypass of team limit. Of course, they bringed you to me, thus the release of handcuffs and other stuff, such as your Pokeballs back.
What the hell happened? You're wearing cultist robes... I'd take it you could provide valuable intel?
"

You were provided with clean robes, everyday, with the past day laundry handled. Still, after the mistreatment, this set will require a good laundry

>One, Fabrice wanted to recruit me because of my knowing of how to craft PokéBalls, so much so that he was willing to use his authority to give me a higher position even as a newcomer;
- On one hand, everybody wish to have more Pokeball. On the other, this might be a bit much for such a large organization...
>Two, that those people have an exclusive "hunting ground" full of rare Pokémon, I may not know a lot, but any company or group being in possession of such a thing doesn't seen right;
- What Rare Pokémon?
- This one and a couple I couldn't identify..."
You describe them to the best of your ability. Blitz doesn't seems to recognize them either. Poipole, however...
"Ultra beasts? That's not bad. That's extremely, dangerously, country-menacing bad... You konw how strong a Buzzwole is? The amount of damages a Guzzlord can deal? The fire-power of Blacephalon?"
The Captain takes a few notes.
"Three?
>And three, they claim to not be a cult, but they use their perceived image of one to tax evade."
Blitz grins.
"You know that's a good way to make them fall and disband their whole organization. Anything to backup that?
- I memorized their tenets... hold on..."

...

"Good job. Now, stop me if I'm wrong... You caught that Poipole. It glitched the trainer card because of the crafted ball. We'll have to update the region's Trainer card software before someone exploit it... That won't be immediate.
We'll have to manually send away one of yours. And, next time, manually lock one of your Pokeball or let one of your team mate in custody before catching a new one, right?
"

Well, your only Pokemon that could get a custody is Espresso - on your to-do list : work on custodies.

"And about that Normal Gym?

"... Apu, Bubbles and Gauss.
- At least you thought seriously about it. Anyway. You've been a bit careless with those guys. But what's done is done and you get their trust. In the future, use your newfound status to exploit their trust on you. Try to find more about what they hide if the occasion arise. Without putting you in more danger. There are some dangerous people in the region. We're pretty sure we haven't identified all the dangerous organisations yet."

And with that say, they let you go. More exactly, bring you to a room that's functionally a cell, but it's good. The so-called "Guest Room" is surprisingly comfortable. Before drifting asleep, you send a reassuring text to your friends, telling them your plan of getting back to Belloco - you message to your mom too.

A 'Blim trip later, and you're at your home around 10. You push the door of the Pokemart.
"Sweetie! It's nice to see you back! Hold on... I'll free some time around lunch break, alright?"
You climb the stairs. Dixie croaks happily upon seeing you.
Her bulb is still bandaged. Bandaged clean with balm. Your mom have taken a really good care of the little gal.
You take some alone time with your Bulbasaur - she really deserved a bit of together time, didn't she? - before your mom comes for the lunch break.
>>
Your mom seems to be in one of the good days. Still, better not say her about your Poison that likes to spray his toxin everywhere. Or the cult you kinda joined to catch him.

"What are you doing this days?
- Will look for caretakers for my team. Catch quite a lot, so I have to be careful, in case accidents, like for Dixie, happens, unless you're willing to give a bit more help?
>33
- Sweetie. I feel you're going... Too fast. Dontgetmewrong, it's okay my sweetie is travelling, and getting all sort of adventures. But one of the good thing of this region's limited ball situation is, well, trainer are taking their time with each of their members. The low amount of trainers makes wild Pokémon more problematic than in other regions, but we have fairly rare events of damages dealt by unruly Pokémon. And here you are, building balls as some bake cookies. No, it's better to teach you responsibility to make you take responsibility of your acts."

That's actually quite logic-based and with a certain amount of truth. You know you grew your team too fast. Still, there is the matter of Fay...

Pokemon are big responsibilities; you will have to learn to tune done your "adventuring" to take care of your critters if you insist putting them in danger.

You spend a demoralizing afternoon realizing all your ideas are unfeasible.
The old guy fishing near the river you thought would be suited for Bubbles? He's speaking with such a strong Kalosian accent and idioms (Does it do? Stop oune paye, I wart nuthin...) you can't even say for sure you're sharing a language.
Apu? No clue where to start - Fire hazard is hard to just hand over.
Gauss might appreciate an electrician or powerplant... But yeah, you're in the middle of Bumfuck nowhere. There might be some. You didn't find yet.
Danny's uncle? Danny is still recovering from his spore inhalation and unable to answer your question about address. And you have no clue yourself.
Same regarding Fay. Who knows how to handle Psychic, for real?

After a really frustrating afternoon, you...

Best course of action is going to see Danny.
It's not like you're feeling responsible or anything - yeah, stop lying to yourself. You can't help feeling it's your bad, letting the group split up.

Anyway, thanks to Amelia, you quickly get the address of Danny for a surprise drop-by. His family lives up-hill, a twenty minute walk from the village center. First, you're taken by the magnificence of their home : a stronghold turned into housing, including a tower.
You're received by his mother Fabienne, a fat, blond, forty-something woman with a bright smile, that's more than happy to fetch some tea and cookies.
Danny is in the middle of the living room, brightnening up upon seeing you.
"How are you doing?
- Quite well. Getting used to my new 'mon, you know?
- So you caught something in Darkwoods in the end?
- Are you kidding me? You were with me when he blocked the path and I caught him! Come forth, Pacificator! "
Danny proceed to release... a Morelull. Of all things.
"Are you hecking serious!
- What's the matter? Typing complement nicely my team, and I like the light he does on my bed-stand at night... Anyway, you' re ready to challenge Dad?"
>No deflection, confront him on his addictive shroom behavior
>What do you mean, challenge Dad?
>You can't keep yourself from wondering if his room is in the tower, like a Prince of old tales
>>
>>5761791
>What do you mean, challenge Dad?
It's obvious that his dad is a GYM Leader, but I'm going with this option because I see no issue with he getting a Morelull. I like them, and if anything it just shows that he didn't get PTSD or any sort of trauma from the experience and who knows, the little fella might even protect him in the future against similar problems.
And the third option doesn't appeal to me.

You're pretty sure you understood well. Still, time to push the point.
"What do you mean, challenge dad? Your father is the Normal Gym Leader?
- You weren't aware? Yeah. He's got a strong team in addition to the farm.
- Wow... Can I ask for details?
- Confidential, of course. Just, bringing out a ghost type to get an easy win won't work. And it's not bad to challenge him sooner : Belloco got two oddities regarding gyms. The Dragon one almost always sweep low level trainer and get rekt by higher level, while the Normal gym have the overall worst odds of success. The Elite 4 is happy that way - nothing teaches more humility than getting shred by Normal Monotype, right?
- Here's tea and cookies! Danny, I have to congrat you : your girlfriend is pretty, nice and very polite."
You're pretty sure it was a single world. Wasn't it?

But I digress, your dad wouldn't happen to be called 'Norman', right?
- What the Kantosian name is that? Like only recruiting a Brock for Rock gym, really? Our region does not have enough talent to be that gratuitous.
- You know, I thought maybe Noah was the Normal Gym Leader, with his team of common annoyances...
- No, that fucker is just an asshole of a trainer."
With that said, the conversation is dying. Still, you can't help but notice Danny didn't answered, confirmed or deny the first part of your answer.
You excuse yourself, and head home. On the way back, you release Hari to give that mon a bit of attention - no way you let it out in your mother's flat. You don't have food for him yet - you'll have to find something soon.

After a team-shared meal, and in a delicious bath while your so, so, so soft cultist kimono is spinning in the laundry machine, you wonder while splashing Bubbles and Apu. What are you gonna do tomorrow?
>Go back to Danny. Kick his father's ass.

After a quick shopping trip that emptied your supplies but solved your most pressing issues, you head toward the training ground of the Poke Center.

You put up a red headband - it's not plagiarism toward Remboar, it's a reference! - and start up your training.

Apu progressed a fair bit. The training and special time allocated just push him over the edge toward mastering a new move, Flame Charge. Good.
Bubbles, being the good girl she is, takes time to coalesces her mud sport into something bigger - Mud Ball. She's grown even stronger, too - is she your ace?
Gauss, on his side, is getting used to his bigger, most powerful self. Speaking of, you can't exactly ascertain his strength : he seems to be almost on par with Apu and Bubbles, but with less mastery . However, you can't help but worry : even if he joined you on his own accord, and he went fully in training because it looks like he really like flexing and shooting at stuff, you feel your hold on him is at best tenous. Speaking of, this might even be the case for all your currently held Pokémon. You'll need to work on that bond.
Hari, however...
It's not like it's not listening to you. More, both Poison and Dragon type are unusual. It is an interdimensionnal critter. It is an Ultra Beast. You have no idea on how to train it - and it shows. You don't even have an idea of the thing's power level, or its moves. He knows some kind of poison one, as it delight into hosing down everything in purple, acrid goo. Good call hiding it from your mom for now - it looks like the stereotypical Poison nuisance that would fuel her nightmares for years to come.

I assume we can't, otherwise we would just roll until getting everyone to success, so that will probably be discarded. . . Which is good, because hot damn, I only saved Cinnamon's roll because it was under 10, but now I can't save this as well.

>>5766300
Still sad, think about the kid no one picks as a partner in school projects, probably a similar feeling.

Long story short, was busier than expected today too.

First, you visit the professor. He's a bit surprised to see you unannounced, but you still can spend a bit of time with your ghost-kitten.
She seems well - although a bit frustrated : her attempt to spook or prank the professor result in "behavior analysis compilation" and create tons of interest. Not the desired effect. You're pretty sure she would love pulling an elaborated hijink, high-effort prank. Something that will become a local legend. Yeah, you'd have to think about it.
>Votes for Espresso : she won't feel neglected despite being benched
Then, you head home for more Dixie care.
>Success : bond with Dixie increased!
Of course, she's overjoyed. Her torned petals are healing nicely - she should be ready to go in a couple days.

Then, play time for everybody with you at the park.
>Hari, Fay failure
>Apu and Gauss no-vote
That was difficult and messy. Apu and Gauss chosed not to partake, sulking and seething. Quite a good call, as Hari's idea of playing around is spraying her toxic goo all around. Fay is overcome by the sulking feeling, living Cinnamon stepping up and Growling at Hari to calm it down, while Bubbles clean the global mess.

Bubbles, being the sweety she is, enjoy thoroughly getting walked around and the daily bath time. You're marveled at how much of a contrast she is : stronger fighter of your team as well as chilliest out of battle Pokemon you've ever seen.
>Bond with Bubbles increased
After an uneventful shared meal with your mom, you sit on couch petting a purring Cinnamon while your mother mirror you with Dixie on her lap, watching a corny, melodramatic assault to the seventh art.

"Thank you, Mom.
- What?
- For taking care of Dixie. I couldn't give her proper care, and you clearly treated her well. Despite your Pokephobia, you've been understanding."

Your mother smile.
"Any progress with finding other caretakers?
- No. And to be honest, that's complicated - limiting quite a lot my option and completely forcing my team composition right now.
- I think you might have learned the lesson. You'll be careful with your additions for now on, right?
- Yes."
No other answer, really. Can't catch anything without putting yourself in deep trouble as is.
"So, I won't play Pokemon Nurse and take care of every bullied Pokemon out there. But the company... It's not so bad, especially with such a nice and well-behaved girl. As you really need it, I can maybe push myself a bit and take care of a not weird one in exchange of Dixie. Like, your two feline-ones. Preferably the Eevee."
That's relieving, really.
"What are your next step?
- Gym battle against Yves.

"Tomorrow. Morning; first thing.
- Well, it fits my schedule fine.
- But mom, you know here gym matches are behind closed door?
- And I know our dear Mayor really well. He won't deny me that favor."

You go to bed, with your thought drifting. You really didn't expected your mom to go the extra step for watching a Pokemon Battle of all things.
After waking up, and a hearty breakfast for you and your team - your mom taking a bowl of sugarless tea - you walk uphill toward the stronghold-turned-house-and-farm-and-Pokemon-gym.
"Just a bowl of tea... You're not hungry?
- Not at all. After sleeping, your body is fasting. A sufficient amount of water fill the stomach, preventing deshydratation. I take the tea sugarless for no caloric intake. Like that, every step we're making is burning a bit of fat."
Your mother have always been chubby, despite her energy and activity. You take note of that - genetics and all that stuff will push you on the same road sooner or later, and this one seems like a good trick.

You see a man standing in the field, enjoying the early morning sun while taking a coffee.
"Hey there, Yves! My daughter have come to challenge you.
- Danny, right? My son told me his friends would be coming..."

You take a deep breath and space out while your mother negotiate to get in and spectate the battle. It's longer than what she expected, and you're pretty sure bribes were involved, but fifteen minutes later, she secured her position.
A really supportive mom is a nice change of path.
"Allright lass, let's do this."

The man walks you inside one of his three barns, which have a dirt floor, sprinkler, reinforced walls, and painted lines : everything done to prevent too many damages to the building itself even amidst a high-level battle.
"Danny Garnier, you've come to Belloco's Normal Gym to challenge for your second badge. Please select three of your Pokeball to enter the fight, let the rest of your team on the tray at the entrance. This gym rule forbid the combination of Slowbro, Leppa Berry, Recycle, Slack Off and Heal pulse use, or similar stalling set. I will myself use 3 Pokémon which power level are tuned with the requirement of a 2nd badge. We will both blindly discover each other team. We will release our first Pokémon in 3... 2... 1..."
Your hand firmly holding your pokéball, you launch the ball at the cue.

"Go, Bubbles!
- I choose you, Nounourson.
- Power-up Punch!
- Brick break!"

That Stufful packs a punch. Really do. And knows how to take a hit - the fight-type energy almost dissipated amidst the thick fur. You grit your teeth, anchor yourself in the ground, and push on with your strategy. Wooper gather more energy, starting to get the offensive power building up. The main issue comes from the greater speed of your opponent. Still, Bubbles is not an ordinarry whooper. She's your ace. After a solid second hit trade, she starts wobbling, in a way sadder state than the Gym leader's pokemon.
The moment a third hit comes for her, you think she'll be done, hearing an anguished gasp from your mother while a cloud of dust settles.
Toroughly beaten, on the edge of collapsing, determination shining in her eyes, she retaliates.
The hit, power with the furry of a thousand Whooper Punches, sends the Stufful flying away, collapsing in a barrier.
Stufful gets back on his fits, steps forward, stumble, tumbles, don't get up.
"Nice opening, girl. Go, ArmeSecrete!"

You still have no idea what you're facing. Based on the look and moves uses, you guess it's a Normal/Ghost one. The fact it soaked an attack... Is that a regional variant of Mimikyu?
"Apu, Flame Charge!

Wowowowo, that seems dangerous! Spectral blade appear above the enemy while Apu builds up momentum. Your first strike is not enough to fell it.
"Again, Apu!

The uncanny atrocity leap forward, lending a solid hit on your Pokémon, which retaliate in a cloud of flammes.
Both Pokemon seems shaken - at least, it seems like it start feeling hits!

"Apu, Keep it up with the flame charge!
- CanardPC, HyperBeam. 7 degrees off-aim to avoid injury."
You gasp. Your mother looks puzzled in the public. Apu collides with the smooth-polygoned duck, dealing a fair amount of damages. Then, you're all blinded by a flash of light.
You shield your eyes with your forearm, while your shocked mother cover her wide-open jaw with her right hand, while Yves stays stoically still.
Apu is out - and you can't help but awe at the mastery of the Gym Leader, directing the hit perfectly to avoid consequences.

>>5772907

"Gauss, your turn! Thunder Shock!"

Alright, the plan is simple. Capitalize on the recovery time of Hyper beam, and hit as hard as you can.
"CanardPC, Psywave."

Uh?
The electric shock hit first, before the psy-type retaliation, that you pokemon takes like a chief.
"Steel type? CanardPC, finish it with Hyper Beam.
- Gauss, Thunder Shock! Faster than his beam!"

Gauss is electricity. A bit too much for a fast finishing attack. What is he doing?
Anchoring his feet in the ground, is that meathead trying to take the Hyper Beam head on? Or outblast the blast?
"Gauss, No! Shoot! Now! You can finish it, but not take the beam face first!"
Won the coinflip of Obediance
Your words trigger a reflex, with Gauss losing his concentration on his upcoming shonen-style attempt to show-of.
The bolt hits the energy-gathering Porygon while the Hyper beam starts to form, frying it.
"CanardPC is down. I, Yves, the Normal champion, is out of Pokémon. Congratulation.

Your mother claps. You feel very good - and does not listen to the nagging common sense in your head telling your how close to defeat you were.

Are TMs a one time use, or is it the more modern post gen 5 where we can use them unlimitedly? I forgot if this was already talked about sorry.
>>
>>5773352
Unlimited but require a Factory-crafted ball
>>
>>5773358
Interesting. Ideally then we'd slowly have our team change to factory made ones, unless we git gud at ball crafting and figure out the secret I guess.

well maybe with a couple extra pokemons and some balls to study we could replicate the tech ourselves. though its unlikely. if there exists miniaturization tech that stuff is probably almost microscopic

Yeah we'd either have to get extremely lucky or become a ball autist. But still it might be something to eventually consider if we want to really be independent in the endgame.

"I'll take the Sword Dance one. And... I was wondering... Why wasn't your Porygon immobilized for a turn? Did I missed a white herb use or something?
- A little National secret speciality. What I'm saying to you right now is classified - one of the reason gym fight happen behind closed doors. The rest of the world knows it as Hyperbeam : a powerful moves, which drawbacks outsets its effectiveness. This move TM was created here for the war. When South Kalos lost, well, the recipe was altered a little bit. I used the original one. Codename : Ultralaser. The move does not require recharge if it defeat an opponent or a substitute, or if the move misses.
Speaking of confidential : you don't get to chose the stone here. Take this.
"

The man handle you a strange stone, glimmering with all the colors of the rainbow?
"Mega stone?
- For now, it will act as Everstone. Give it to your Eevee. For your information - this is the only one we have on the country - the other were destroyed in the war. And we never heard of it somewhere else."

>>
>>5773457
I mean the QM did say it was viable. Just putting it out there as something we can do.
Besides its not unheard of for a person getting supported by secret agencies and then going against the interests of said agencies when powerful enough.

>>5774151

Sweet. But the question of why we're being told this is still there. Is it because we work for glowies?

"So, as an additional reward... If you ever need custom saddlery, I'm your man"

With all that said and done, you walk back to the village borough, with your Mother split between enthusiasm and Violence.
"No wonder cute Dixie got hurt... You never wonder if this is cruel to make them fight like that? I mean, it's necessary to train and have Pokémon to defend from wild ones... And their instinct push to fight and progress. And I've never seen you so focused and confident... And the moves were impressive. But still..."

You split at the Poké Center. While they're attending your team, you message your friends.
"Congratulation for the gym Badge Danny!

>Do you like the Gym system with "only" a high-difficulty boss fight?

pretty much. having several fights beforehand would just drag things out massively. also makes narrative sense with what the Gym Leader told us now.

>Are Gym leader threatening enough?

i would say yes.

>Overall remarks about game plot?

some interesting hooks.

>Overall remarks about game balance?

cant say much about game balance. since i barely understand how the DC system works. seems fine so far.
>>
>>5774181
>How the DC system work
A black magic nightmarish ruleset of abstracted level difference / damage already inflicted / move Power / coverage efficiency / ability /Stab /typing, all of that applied on a base DC of 70

You beat the Porygon by barely meeting the DC because :
>Flame charge inflicted chip damages thanks to the 73 (clearing the DC by 3)
>Gauss resists Porygon Stab
>Porygon does not resist Gauss stab
>Porygon STAB Hyperbeam have more Base Power than Gauss
>Quilava outspeeds Porygon

So it might be a bit obfuscated, but I'm taking a lot of factor into account and DC are not just what I decide them to be (I know it sounds a lot like "trust me bro")
>>
>>5774182
i assuemed as much. so its not close to as complicated as Gamefreaks own systems. still probably too complicated to just show.

i do trust that you have an idea of what your doing.
>>
>>5774178
>Do you like the Gym system with "only" a high-difficulty boss fight?
It would depend on how it interacts with the larger story I suppose.
>Are Gym leader threatening enough?
Yes definitely.
>Overall remarks about game plot?
It's compelling, I like it.
>Overall remarks about game balance?
I'll say that there's still too much of an emphasis on rolls, but otherwise it's fine.
