Somewhere, at some date, great temples will be built to honor Gods long deceased. Wars will be waged over matters whose significance was lost. Great men will be born and leave legacies forgotten.

Mankind has wrested the Earth from its cousins and emerged more genetically diverse than either their ancestors, or ancient foes.

Now as the world approaches the end of the Neolithic, great civilizations have begun to emerge all across the globe.
One of these emerging civilizations is currently experiencing their very own trojan war, a saga to last untold generations, the ramifications of which will last far, far into the future.

Having convinced Mehnutekte to join us for the time being, Neyiprim warns of the might of Apotirete.
He claims them to be masters of war, and suggests never to engage an army of theirs that even resembles this one in size, for our complete annihilation would be assured.
Regrarim asks how it is then that Mehnutekte held out against them for so long.
The answer, he says is simple, they have erected Peitakko (walls) to protect themselves form their assaults. It has proven quite effective.
Whenever trouble in Mehnutekte's raids arises, they retreat back behind their Peitakko and let Apotirete crash against them impotently.
He does note however, that not even Peitakko will hold them off forever, at least not ones made out of wood. This is why despite their best efforts, Mehnutekte kept losing ground to Apotirete.

This is where he stops his explanation, refusing to give out any more crucial knowledge about the clan he serves.

With Neyiprim's support, our numbers have increased by another 1000, which makes up for some of our early losses. And with his advise we can avoid villages considered to be Mehnutekte.

As we plan our next move, ideas are pooled from all parts of our great army.
The elders of Sessrete demand we continue razing villages until we run out of supplies, to end Apotirete for good
Regrarim suggests to wait for their capital to be undefended and raze it, to end Apotirete as an economic power
Kapotim insists we use our wits to fight their army at full strength, to end Apotirete as a military power
Neyiprim advises us to exclusively raze dwarven villages, to end Apotirete as a diplomatic power

Following Regrarim's plan, scouts are send ahead to track the movements of Apotirete's army, in the meantime we continue razing villages in a circle around Malagi Kege (Yellow Bone) - capital of Apotirete

During this time, Neyiprim briefs us on Apotirete's style of warfare, which is unlike anything seen in the heartland.
They care little for honorable combat, yet do not stoop as low as ambushes - he says, while glaring at Kapotim - rather, they arrange their men in bizarre patterns, spread all over the place, and as a general rule, refuse to engage an opposing army anywhere but open fields.
If they cannot fight their opponent, they will resort to harassment attacks and crop burning until they have been lured into a field.
Apotirete completely dictate the pace of warfare with their strange ways, and we are best advised not to fight them at all, especially now that we are on their soil, far away from our homes.
It is clear that while Neyiprim shares all of this willingly, he has some sort of ulterior motive in doing so, which brings his trustworthiness into question.

After several weeks, multiple scout reports have come in, that Apotirete's great army, estimated around 9000 men, roughly half of whom are dwarves, have left Malagi Kege and are headed westward, into the Utekko, which gives both Neyiprim and Kapotim cause for alarm, as this would lead them either directly into Mehnutekte or Rerete territory.

Regrarim reminds the other two that our army has a goal to fulfill, and it cannot be done unless unity of purpose is established.
Kapotim and Neyiprim acquiesce, and the Army of Chaos marches on Malagi Kege.

Upon our arrival, we find the city bustling with activity, but devoid of any defenders. It is evident that despite them attempting to lure us out, Apotirete did not anticipate our next move and failed to prepare against it.

With the city laid bare before us, we raze it to the ground, slaughter the people inside, and take whatever cattle is present in it, splitting it between Mehnutekte and Rerete.

With our primary goal now fulfilled, all that's left to do is to kill Apotirete's great army and raze any village that escaped our wrath.
The latter being a task that is much more suited for a regular army and not the behemoth that is currently roaming the land.

Satisfied with this turn of events, Regrarim dismisses his allies, and urges us to return home. That which we have joined his people for has been accomplished.

Kapotim knows, that despite our victory, Sessrete will be unable to return home, and have resigned themselves to the fate that awaits them. The question is should he honor the cause, the promise to his friend, or the wishes of his friend's people?
(Note: the promise was to save the civilians of Sessrete)

Neyiprim however is overjoyed at this outcome, not only can he claim victory over Apotirete, but is no longer bound to support this ridiculous endeavor.
Mehnutekte leave the Army of Chaos and return home.

We comply with Regrarim's demand and leave, making our way to Sessrete.

No longer bound to this titanic army, and with no objective to loot every village and hermit's hut anymore, we are able to move a lot faster, only stopping every other day to forage rather than almost every day.
This entire campaign up until this point has easily cost us three months. Spring has already long passed and the telltale signs of Autumn's approach are already visible.
Now, on our way back however, it merely took us three weeks to return to Sessrete, in no small part to the fact we can safely take the quick routes home, that on our way here were too dangerous to traverse, for fear of enemy encounters.

Having made it to Aga Torote, we inform the people of their king's likely, but yet unknown, fate, and our chief's promise to him that we would take in Sessrete as we would our kin.

They are distrustful, and accuse us of working for Apoti'inste. An unexpected thing to hear, considering their clan hasn't involved themselves with the ongoings of the heartland in centuries.

Kapotim tries to find out what they mean, but as he does so, the city comes under attack by...camels? No, those are men, sitting on the camels, striking us with extremely long spears.
They are however, few in number.

Action must be taken now, lest everyone is killed.

Like it had been an instinct, we form a circle around the people of Aga Torote, shielding them from enemy attacks.
Among the mass of civilians, our bowmen find a position from which they can freely shoot without hitting any of our own people.

Unable to cope with this counter-harassment, the mysterious enemy leaves, with only a handful of them dead.

Having proven our worth to the Sessrete, and earning their good will by putting our lives at risk for them, they share what they know before packing their things and leaving for Rerete.

Apparently, the news have of Sessrete's great army wreaking havoc on Apotirete has reached Apoti'inste rather swiftly, suspiciously so. With the imminent destruction of both Sessrete and Apotirete, Apoti'inste had formally declared war on every clan in the heartland, no matter their size or importance, claiming vengeance for Apotirete as their cause of invasion.
With a cause as seemingly noble as this, there is little in the way of negotiating with them.
To make matters worse, Apoti'inste's army is entirely camel-based, how they could muster this many animals is a mystery to us.

Now that the refugee march toward our lands has begun, the question is which route to chose.
We could take them along the Sessre, both the easiest and shortest route, but if Apoti'inste are already on this side of it, as we've seen just a moment ago, then it also leaves us vulnerable to their attacks.
Or we could take them through the border forests which, while difficult to navigate, makes defense easier, though it also considerably slows us down.
Alternatively, we could seek passage through Klaokgugette, though this is an enormous detour and a diplomatic gamble to boot, should it succeed, we would be both completely safe and restore our hurt relations by indebting ourselves to them.

Making our way through the border forest of Sessrete, Rerete and Klaokgugette, we manage to go unnoticed for a good long while.
During this time, we had taken a headcount of all the refugees on their way to Rerete, and begun considering just how enormous the difference between these people and our army truly are.
With over 6000 people, mostly the old and sick, we are tasked with defending 5 times our own numbers.
Fortunately, these frail people aren't the only Sessrete we're bringing home, as we are told that the young and healthy have gone ahead without them when the attacks began.
Assuming that we would likely not return, these people were left here to die for the greater good of Sessrete, and now we're going to reunite them with their families.

Halfway back home, Apoti'inste finally noticed us and began their harassment attacks, aiming for the unarmed rather than our warriors.
Thanks to the dense vegetation of the forests however, their camels are rendered largely useless and fall victim to our archers. The spearmen then made quick work of their riders.

We manage to fend them off half a dozen more times until we have finally returned home.
Kapotim however, was severely wounded in the process, but this arduous campaign is finally over, we are home.

A few weeks go by, Sessrete are beginning to settle-in a little, and Kapotim has survived long enough for his wounds to close.
Just then, a few hundred men enter Eyeli Heslo, broken and defeated. They are remnants of the Army of Chaos and begin to tell in great detail what had happened to them after we left...
>>
Regrarim the charming, living grace of Sessrete had send our friends and allies home. We had never thought it possible that we would one day call Rerete such, but whether friend or foe, they must not partake in our great Change.
Pitiful it may be, it cannot be said otherwise, to enact Change is to become Change and our nemesis of old simply can not.

Mere days after their departure Regrarim the canny, living wit of Sessrete had done what our scouts could not and locate Apotirete's army, a weak imitation of the Army of Change.
We met them at the base of the Utekko, near a passage leading to what once was Doalutekte, a clearing of unparalelled enormity. Just as was forewarned, Apotirete had lured us into an open field at which they arranged themselves into groups of shapes.

Regrarim the jubilant, living joy of Sessrete burst out laughing when he laid his eyes upon them, undeterred by the sight, his belief in the Rerete spirit, of which he tried to convince us, guiding him onward.
We readied ourselves for the impending battle to decide the fate not of any clan, but the entire world.

When our armies clashed Regrarim the bold, living courage of Sessrete ran into the thick of it, crashing into them with his mighty body to open pockets into which our men could pour.
We overwhelmed them inspite of the numbers being matched, for the masters of war were only human after all, breaking against the impenetrable rock of morale, or so it seemed.

Atop a wheeled throne, towering as high as a tree, there sat a coppern monstrosity. It blew a horn and all a sudden, Apotirete had encircled us.
Regrarim the mighty, living strength of Sessrete roused the men to fight anew. Such wonders could be worked by the young, but not the old, that was the truth.

So it was, when all men had been slain and a thousand Sessrete remained, the coppern monstrosity climbed down from its throne.
It came to us in a straight line, dragging a titanic axe behind. Its eyes shone a bright blue, and from its head flowed coppern hair. It drew near and it dawned on Regrarim the holy, living spirit of Sessrete that the coppern monstrosity was none other than the king of Apotirete.
His coppern skin betrayed him. No man like him lived anywhere in the world, he was a dwarf but of a size that matched our kin. More muscular and powerful than any human alive, he swung his axe with tears streaming down his face.

Regrarim the foolhardy, living hope of Sessrete would not watch as this beast would slay his men and charged at it, ready to fight to the very end.
Of the thousand men who had yet lived, the coppern king would Regrarim and nine hundred in his grief until struck from behind and meeting his own axe in the face.

Twenty thousand had met to fight against fate, and one hundred remained to tell the tale.

Amazingly long
>Food Preservation
So many choices, but with an additional estimation of 6100 people (minus those lost in the journey), we'll have to make sure we can feed them. Intertwining our identities is a good idea afterwards as well, but with the Camek Khan on our border military is also a concern. No rest for the civilized!

The King of Apotirete is also pretty interesting. At first I thought he was wearing Armor, but with what we know of their relations with the dwarves, he could have been a mix between giant and dwarf. His poor mother.

One of the secrets that made the Army of Chaos possible, was Sessrete's incredible ability of providing food that lasted more than just a couple of days.
Now that they are part of our clan, how they did it is no longer a secret.
Every day, we witness Sessrete families buy fish, turkey and other game from Rerete hunters, hang them up on a line under a small hut's roof, and stoke a fire underneath whose heat never actually reaches the meats.
Eventually, they take these oddly colored meats off the line, store them away and eat them over weeks and even months.
Which seems quite useful throughout the harsh winter months.

We adopt this technique, and others like it, to make food that doesn't easily spoil.

With the absolute devastation brought upon Sessrete by the now defeated Apotirete, all of their men, young and old, are functionally dead. Only the survivors and boys too young to even pick up a weapon had remained.
Everyone else was now fatherless, husbandles, childless, and brotherless.
Just as we had witnessed thriteen thousand men go off to war, so did we take in thirteen thousand women, and almost that same amount in children.
While the vast amount of fish in Ketrere can effortlessly sustain these people, Eyeli Heslo cannot hold all of them.

To rid ourselves of this problem, and unite our people as we had promised, Kapotim organizes a great ceremony in which all Sessrete women are married to Rerete men of their age.
Since we simply lack this many unmarried men, even among the old, the majority of the ones we found, had to take multiple wives.
Prioritized in this were the old, to at least give the aging Sessrete women some company in their lives, and the young, so that they would be fertile and grant our clans many children.
The ones in the middle, were mostly engaged into normal marriages.

The old, we allow to permanently settle in and around Eyeli Heslo, to not inconvenience them.
The young and adult however, we send off in groups of 100 to go beyond our borders and claim new land for our people.

With this, the population of Eyeli Heslo returns to a more manageable level.

While Apoti'inste continues their expansion eastward into what once was Apotirete they resettle lesser clans from their homeland into the areas depopulated by war.
These clans bring with them a most strange crop they call "Eminski" - a bulb-shaped plant with many smaller bulbs, ranging from yellow and red to black in color, that can be taken off at will.

At the same time, reports of our colonists are coming in of amazing new discoveries.
The eastern colonists report that Ketrere is almost twice as large as previously assumed, and that there is another one of its kind at which many of them have decided to settle - they dubbed it Kirasrere (Little Lake).
The western colonists, unaware of the revelation of Ketrere's true size, claim to have found a lake that completely dwarfs it, while also reporting an enormous deposit of Puio Utekki, easily accessible along the beaches, where no true mining is required.
As such they dubbed it Puiorere (Green Lake).

It is with these revelations coming to us, that our people begin to realize just how different they truly are from the rest of the world.
They share neither kinship with the Heartlanders who despise them for their bluntness and aggression.
Nor with the Edgelanders who consider them cowardly and effeminate.
Rerete belong nowhere but their home, and it is through the pressures of Kloakgugette, who shut us out of all interactions with the heartland,
Mehnutekte, whose schemes seem to take them everywhere we least want them to be,
and Apoti'inste, who seek to outright destroy us,
that we are rapidly becoming cognizant of our true role and status among the clans.

In these troubled but enlightening times, it has become self-evident that Rerete stands out from the other clans in that we are favored by the Spirits where others aren't, protected by the blessed waters of Ketrere and its siblings.
As long as we honor them, no foe will ever be able to overcome the might of our spirits.

This of course begs the question of where they came from, why they do what they do, and how we play into all of this.
Questions that many people have had before, one that in the old days could have easily been answered with "fate" or "that's how it is" but those answers no longer satisfy our people, so they have begun to construct explanations for themselves.
These explanations come in the form of stories: stories of spirits, stories of creation, stories of men, stories of the end.

Among these stories, creations are the most unlike anything we've ever heard. Though they claim their truthfulness, as some are indeed just retellings from someone's own household, there obviously cannot be multiple truths, right?

Though it may so happen that a great many creation stories make the rounds, only two truly stand out as truly recognized outside of a few villages...

When the world was but a never-ending glacier, where man and animal survived without joy or passion, without thought or feeling. Everything looked as pale and bleak, formless and cold as the very world itself.

A world ripe with atrocity, where fathers would kill their daughters and mothers sire children with their sons, where man would eat their feces and lie with beasts.

In such a wicked world, all the good had left the hearts of men and women, all the innocence the bodies of animals and beasts, where it flowed deep beneath the ice and birthed the first spirits, who split the ice apart and killed all that walked the earth.

When the first waters flowed and flowers bloomed, the sun rose and the moon shone, the spirits raised new life from the earth, they filled it with strength and wisdom, good and innocence.

CONT

When the world was but a lifeless sea, where Rekokiki thundered and raged, killed and destroyed all she came across, nothing could survive her relentless onslaught. Everything was as mad and wild, chaotic and unstable as the very world itself.

A world so terrible it awoke the Turtle that carried it on its back. To put a stop to all this the Turtle created the Spirit of Land, a beaver and warrior, a builder and Champion.

The Spirit of Land fought the Spirit of Water for countless ages, in which they grew closer and more intimate, friendly and in love. Upon the day of their union however, the Champion had fulfilled his goal and shortly thereafter died. Rekokiki would continue to wreak havoc throughout her pregnancy.

When the first life sprung forth from her womb, the first new spirits entering the world, the Spirit of Water finally calmed herself, and with her progeny shaped the seas into a new world, one of life and peace, order and stability. Pleased with this, the Turtle went back to sleep.

It doesn't matter to our people that these stories contradict each other, they are simply the truth.

As our realm grows, the knowledge which the Sessrete brought with them also begins to proliferate among our people.

Our warriors have seen them before: Sessrete boats.
They come in all shapes and sizes, squares, circles, rectangles, it doesn't really matter.
All of them are made the same way, by cutting logs into large planks, placing them in the desired shape, and sowing them together with lots of string until the shape holds.
These shapes also all have a thing in common, namely that they appear similar to pots.
Enclosed on three sides, and open on one: the exact opposite of our boats.

While these require more time and material to craft, we know from experience that they surpass our own.

In the meantime, word has reached us of Apoti'inste's success in the east and them now setting sights on the heartland, which includes our territories around Puio Utek.
Additionally, it appears as though Apotirete as a clan, has reconstituted itself far north of where it originally had been.
To the dismay of the entire world, these new Apotirete consist primarily of dwarves, and they vowed never-ending resistance against Apoti'inste's rule, though this announcement is questionable in its importance as they do no longer possess cattle as far as anyone knows.

Following our experiences with the old Apotirete, both our own and more importantly that of the surviving Sessrete warriors, we try to understand and emulate the way of warfare practiced in the east.

The survivors advise Kapotim on recreating what they experienced, as Kapotim shuffles some 500 warriors around outside Eyeli Heslo

After a few weeks, Kapotim believes to have figured out how all of this works.
To test his theory, he would ideally need to engage an enemy in an open field, lest the chaotic nature of regular warfare upset his experiment.
Until then, Kapotim attempts to refine his understanding of this new way of warfare.

While we were figuring all of this out however, we have lost Puio Utek and with it the source of copper-crafting knowledge, 600 men who were still stationed there, and untold amounts of potential manpower.

Word of Apoti'inste's victory over us, albeit due to negligence, has sent ripples throughout the heartland, emboldening Klaokgugette to turn their subdued animosity toward us into open hostility.

Our influence and standing in the world rapidly wanes, as we find ourselves more isolated than any edgeland clan and less respected than even the cowardly Mehnutekte.

Not knowing what we had until it was lost, Kapotim's policy of merciful neglect has come back to bite him.
As such, he musters what little warriors he can after all the wars we fought, but only manages the same 500 he had been training the weeks prior.
We do have the potential for 1100 but they are currently too hard to reach, past our old borders, and on the frontier.
Though they are not exempt from the draft, the few still within reach simply refuse on the grounds of having families with multiple wives to tend to.
He does manage however, to get his hands on some surviving Sessrete warriors, bringing our total up to 530.

All of them are equipped with shields, while half of them receive our limited amount of copper spears, the others bow and arrow.

Our manpower being critically short, even a decently large minor clan could stand to meet us on even grounds.
However, we would also greatly benefit from not annihilating all these minor armies, so their men may serve us in our conquests.

Before going on our merry way, we decide to declare...

>a war of annihilation

With our intentions made clear for all the world to know, we march into the territories of the various minor clans inhabiting the border between Rerete and Klaokgugette.
These clans have no allegiance to either side, and have long managed to remain independent from any cattle clans surrounding them, through a complex network of trade and alliances that enabled them to share their knowledge between one another.
Always knowing the ways of their enemies, they have devised means to counter each of them.
They may individually be not worth mentioning, but together they're as dangerous as any major clan.
Unlike Klaokgugette however, they have not formed a union, and they probably never will.

Kapotim, not one for politics, had to find this out the hard way
Upon our arrival at Yitai Alawa (Friendly Beaver) a town belonging to one of the weaker clans in this alliance, we were unexpectedly met, not by the estimated 150 men of this clan, but the 2000 of the entire alliance.

with an open field in front of us, and a forest at our backs, the conditions are ideal to attempt formation warfare, although the enemy is holed up in the city, not willing to engage us despite their overwhelming advantage

On Kapotim's orders, we move apart to let the archers in the middle get up close and begin bombarding the town and the defenders inside.
Though, unlike previous opponents, they too have developed peitakki but they are not large enough to truly protect them.

The enemy remains inside the city until our bowmen are out of all but their final arrows, which they need as spears, and begin their assault on our men.

The archers fall back and return to the formation.

As the allied army crashes into ours, Kapotim orders us to envelop them, so we stretch our line thin to make ourselves appear more numerous, while also putting pressure on the enemy flank, which they never expected to happen.
As the archers join the melee, putting pressure on the center just as their resistance there had begun to wane in their effort of reinforcing the flanks.

The allied army has lost its morale and breaks, scattering in all directions.

Kapotim walks up to the entrance of the city and loudly proclaims to all its inhabitants, that they shall be spared, their widows accommodated, and may have an elder of each of their clans to represent them in Rerete's elder council.
In exchange for this, their men shall serve us as if they were our own, and our spirits be acknowledged as truthful and real.
Compliance shall reap further reward.
Refusal shall reap naught but sorrow.

They are given one year to tell us their decision.
with our demands issued, Kapotim gives the order to retreat, and we return to Eyeli Heslo.

With our return home and Apoti'inste's continued unwillingness to strike at our heartland, some manner of peace has returned to Rerete.
Though we soon learn why Apoti'inste's rapid expansion has come to a sudden halt after taking over our southern holdings: Their king and his successor have died in combat against Klaokgugette.
Apoti'inste who seemingly has no elder council, simply collapsed due to a lack of succession.

This victory, albeit not ours, has inspired the people of Rerete to share the great story of the Army of Chaos among each other.
The original account given by the survivors, has been extended to include our participation in the campaign at large, and how it came to be.
The detail that this had begun with a Sessrete raid on us, and our subsequent invasion of them, has been conveniently left out of the narrative, especially by Sessrete themselves.

The sheer scale of the conflict and the impact it had had on our society has given the story enormous weight for our people, and begun to contribute toward our own identity becoming tangible.

Though slightly embellishments are present already, as time progresses, they are guaranteed to increase.

In preparation for the inevitable wars to come, Kapotim has decided to attempt the construction of what Mehnutekte referred to as "Peitakko".
They were described as a manner of defense for settlements, similar in nature to shields, hence the similar name.
The thought is quite simple, if Peitakki protect men, Peitakko protect houses.
As such, the first instance of Peitakko in our realm is a circle of giant shields surrounding Eyeli Heslo.
It takes a few months to construct, because if one were to consider it a building of its own, it is the largest thing we have ever built.

In the meantime, messengers of the Allied Clans have arrived, informing us of their surrender on our terms.

With a fresh pool of manpower on our hands, Rerete is safe once again.

Despite manpower being available to us again, it still pales in comparison to the vastness of Rerete. Where other clans possess a country matching their size, we possess a country matching our ambition, and it far outstrips our living population.
It is a problem that will have to be addressed eventually, and Kapotim chose to do so sooner rather than later.
Applying the lessons he had learned from Sessrete, we have begun to use boats to ferry goods and people across the Ketrere to and from the capital.
Where possible, we use rivers as well

All of this requires a lot of organization, something we struggle with with our current lack of a male population.
In the coming decades, our colonists should have this problem resolved however.
Nevertheless, for the time being things work, but who knows what the next generation will bring

Our continued peace, brought on by the upheaval in the Heartland, has lasted so long that Kapotim had deemed it permissible for the men in the colonies to be exempt from Rerete's call to arms.
Though they never would have come in the first place, as seen by our lack of manpower without them, having it be official no longer penalizes the colonists and their sessrete wives for claiming a new frontier.
With such a testament to peace put into words, there could perhaps be no greater sign of a new era, than the death of a leader.

Kapotim has passed and in his stead, Ualawa a...

Ualawa is an unwelcome sight to most people, after all, the people of his homeland had made themselves quite unpopular in years prior.
Ualawa cares little for these hostilities, he's had worse, or so he claims.
What he does care for however, is Rerete's apparent lack of what he considers a staple crop.
He'd only come here recently, so he still has to get used our customs and culture, this includes cuisine.

Cuisine however, is not the only thing Ualawa takes issue with, but our treatment of ruhalko, our lack of what he calls "Katagegko" - we don't know what this means - and our warlike nature

With such negativity coming from our chief, even the elder council feels the need to explain themselves in their decision.
This foreigner, they say, was chosen based on the merit of his skill, and content of his character. He may be disagreeable, but the elders assure the people, that this was the right choice.
Many doubt this claim, but we'll have to live with it for now...

Ualawa's reign has been both peaceful and uneventful in its first year. The only thing of note was him planting a field of his favored crop.
Some have heard of Eminski before, and were convinced it was yellow, but upon seeing it, that turned out to be mere rumor.
Though Ualawa was willing to share when asked about it, few actually took him up on the offer of trying this strange blue crop.

Nevertheless, it appears to be catching on with his associates, how one could enjoy these hard kernels, that are inferior to beans in every way, is something we don't understand

Though we don't know when or how he acquired one, Ualawa has recently been seen sitting atop his camel and travelling between villages that way.
He had told all those curious about this, that it was common practice in his homeland, there, he said, camels are neither livestock nor wealth to be accumulated, but companions with which one shares a deep bond.
Though he takes personal offense in the placidity of our stock, he does not blame us for breeding them this way, it is after all, our culture, as much as he dislikes it.

Though few dare sit atop their camels like Ualawa does, the idea proliferates still through his actions.

To combat Rerete's rampant barbarism, Ualawa sees fit to ease relations between us and our greatest rival, the titan at the heart of the world - Klaokgugette.

For this purpose, multiple messengers are sent out, tasked to tell them that we wish to arrange a meeting between our chiefs.

Weeks later, we receive the answer - No.
Normally, this would be grounds for war, and at first it appears this is what Ualawa will do, having gathered our troops and marching toward Klaokgugette.
Upon being confronted however, he tells us to stand down and walks out front anyhow, wishing to speak to the leader of their army.

Though it is not their chief who leads them, an elder will do all the same.
Ualawa impresses upon him that he truly only wishes to talk, and that this show was merely a means to an end.

Perplexed by this unusual display of politics from a leader of Rerete, the elder of klaokgugette heeds his request, and Ualawa sends our army home before joining them on their way to Nekattak (Peril-less)

Upon entering the impressively large capital of Klaokgugette, Ualawa is brought straight to their chief who resides in a house made of stone, with holy symbols painted all over it.

Ualawa introduces himself and begins to...

>admire Klaokgugette architecture
>praise Klaokgugette's elder
>apologize for the trickery
>get right into the the matter of his arrival

Ualawa expresses great astonishment and awe at the sight of a stone building, and wishes to know how Klaokgugette could achieve such a thing.
Umatkelli - King of Klaokgugette - humors our chief and explains the technique without elaborating too much on the details, lest he gives away this technology to a rival nation.

With the ice broken, the chiefs get into the heart of the matter - to restore peace between Rerete and Klaokgugette.
Though neither aim for a mutual alliance, discourse proceeds as if they did.
In the process of this debate, Umatkelli utters a few words that normally could be taken as a severe insult toward Ualawa's person, but given the subject matter, they might be harmless.
Whether he meant them as such or not is made unclear by the fact he said them so shamelessly, so nonchalant, as if they a natural part of his thought.
On the other hand, heartlanders are well-known for their despicable discourse, steeped in puns and innuendo; Klaokgugette are especially bad in this regard.

Ualawa is granted a second of respite as his opponent stops talking, expecting a response in return. What will he say?

>feign playful offense at the insults
>be genuinely offended
>pretend they've never been spoken
>ignore them and fire back
>acknowledge it and banter

Rather than linger on what has been said, Ualawa continues the conversation as if nothing happened.
Umatkelli chuckles to himself, he didn't expect a man of the north to know their customs, and yet he can't help but wonder, why Ualawa did not react in any way. Surely, that is unusual even for Rerete.
Ualawa agrees, telling him that in his experience words unspoken often hold the greatest weight.
Intrigued by this outlook, Umatkelli drags on the debate a little longer.

As they conclude their talks, the King of Klaokgugette calls for an escort to safely return his guest home.
Upon his arrival in Eyeli Heslo, Ualawa announces peace between Rerete and Klaokgugette.
Though not an alliance by any stretch of the imagination, for as long as both Ualawa and Umatkelli reign in their countries, Klaokgugette will not consider us an enemy.
