Indie, why would this be human?

Erna's words seemed to echo in your head as she said them. Your partner gave you a weird look as you focused on your thoughts- she could tell you were spacing out.

Why would the Poketch be human...? It just was-

Oh.

Erna didn't know how you'd know that, did she? Or that you were a human, at all.
You never got the chance to tell her.

A moment later, you gripped the stony floor beneath you to ground yourself. A quick pan around the room gave you a solid reminder of where you were.

Right. This was the basement of that dilapadated house Erna wanted to show you. There was a weird bush behind her and she was sitting in front of you, holding a Poketch. Behind you was a big pile of junk, and the walls were all cracked...

"Indie? You alright?" The Buneary in front of you still her head tilted. If she went any further left she'd probably start having neck pains.

What do you do?
>Reassure her that you're alright, but ignore the question.
>Toss the Poketch away and move on.
>Reassure Erna and explain your true identity.
>"Look! A squirrel!"

Seeing as this just barely wins out, I'll go with it. Writing!
>>
Well, it wouldn't do to leave her hanging like that, would it?

You blinked for a moment before composing yourself and clearing your throat. Erna seemed to relax at that, so you took your chance to be frank with her.

"Yeah, I'm... I'm fine."
There was an awkward pause, during which you quietly lowered your head. As you started talking, you spent your time staring at the Poketch.

"I haven't been entirely candid with you. It's true that I lost my memory... but I do remember a few things." You ignored Erna's expression beginning to contort and continued on, recalling what you could. "I know of a name- 'Sinnoh', I think it was. And I remember a book- with a hard cover. And..."

You trailed off. Your head was starting to hurt a little bit. Erna's expression was also starting to get to you. It was hard to place, but it was obvious she wasn't the happiest. Regardless, once your headache cleared soon after, you continued. "...I remember that I'm not a Meditite. I'm a human- I always have been, until now."

...

...

Silence filled the room soon after.
Seemingly out of circumstance rather than choice.

Erna leaned backwards and put her paws together, raising them to her mouth and thinking on what she'd heard.
The Buneary remained silent for longer than you expected. It would've worried you had you been closer to her, but it was admittedly hard to be too devastated when she finally answered back.

"...you're kiddin', right? There's no way you're tellin' the truth right now- you're pullin' my leg."

It was hard to tell whether that smile was out of glee or out of serious concern.

Why is this a good idea again? We should've waited until we could trust her more.

You'd already made up your mind. You were going to tell her this.

"I'm not pulling any legs."
...actually, Erna didn't even have much of a leg to pull. Why was she using this saying? "I'm trying to be honest with you, so you know the situation."

Some more silence... until your partner spoke up. She was noticeably quieter. "Indie, I'm goin' to assume you're telling the truth right now, since you're so adamant. An' if you are... then you're in trouble."
That caught you by surprise. You'd never seen Erna this grave before- she was evidently serious about this. All you did was raise an eyebrow as she continued. "I don't mind much- and you've been pretty nice t' me so far- but... you've got t' keep this a secret, alright?"

>"Alright." No reason not to. You'd done so already.
>Inquire further instead. You want to know why, at the very least.
>Write-in

>"Would it be bad if I was telling the truth?"
We should probably get more information first. Who knows how anyone would react. And I might be wrong, but didn't she mention raiders or something destroying human-related objects?

"...well, why?"

Erna shuffled in place for a moment before saying a word. "...well, I mean... m-most mon don't really like humans." She leaned forward to pick up her filthy decapitated plush toy again and waggled it a little. "When I was playin' with this more of'n, I had t' do all that around here because it's sorta rude t' parade around a mon and talk about how it's totally friends with a human."

Erna trotted the Charmander around once more, despite the lack of both legs, following its trail instead of looking at you. "It's like sayin' you're friends with a fire that burned down your house and then playing out a story where you and the fire go on a trip t' find a new home, right?"

You only got a vague glimpse of what Erna meant. Regardless, she continued. "It's just... most mon don't really like you. Or- they won't if you tell 'em."

...maybe she should've been a bit clearer, actually. "Sorry, I don't think I understood- humans are like fire? They burnt down a house?"

The Buneary gave you a frown. "Well- yeah, sorta. Everyone thinks they're the reason why places like this exist- random, ugly, broken-down ruins in th' middle a' nowhere. Ma said her ma is the only reason there's a Redpine Village and not a Redpine Ruins. And that humans're why she only ever talks about ma..."

Erna crossed her arms and huffed soon after. "She doesn't wanna hear anythin' about them, which I think is sorta dumb. Especially if humans are like you instead of like Ma says, Indie."
The Buneary didn't smile back- she just lay her Charmander to rest and looked back to the Poketch.

"I'm just worried that if you say anything, we'll both be in trouble. You get that, right?"

This was all a bit... much. You were shocked Erna would even give this much information out to an acquaintance... but then again, this was the same Buneary that tried to risk her life for someone she wasn't even super close with. You were never going to truly understand her mindset.

>Just nod back. [Optionally, nod and shift attention away from the situation- if you pick this option, write in what you want Indie to do.]
>Confirm outright that you hear Erna and promise that you won't say anything.

"...right. I won't tell anyone." You gave a small nod to Erna and grinned just the tiniest bit. It felt weird- maybe you didn't do this too much as a human?- but Erna seemed to be happy with it. The Buneary smiled back- wider, of course- and replied promptly. "Okay, then, I guess that means we can stay out of trouble for now."

There was a twinge of doubt in her tone... that could maybe be addressed later. For now, you two were here to rummage around and have fun. Probably.
As such, your immediate next move was to quietly snatch the Poketch from Erna's unattended paw and start fiddling with it. You poked the button a few times, smudged the screen to try and get an accurate number out of the weird halfway point it displayed...

"...what're you doin'?"
You glanced up at her.
"Messing with the clock. It's fun- and if it's like your doll, we might get something out of it."

Erna moved to stand after you said that. Uninterested, huh? That was a first. "Ah- alright. Well, I prefer diggin', so I'll leave that t' you. Lemme know when you're done with that." And so, she smiled and left.

-

What felt like an hour or two passed, though you weren't sure whether that timing was accurate. You tried everything you could to get anything out of the Poketch- but the damn thing was sturdy, and the most you ended up being able to do was figure out how to get it to stay on your wrist. Ah well, it was a fun experience...

Eventually, you heard Erna from upstairs. "Oh, shoot! Indie!"
She peeked her head down into the basement. "The sun's setting, we've gotta go!"

"What? Why?" You'd only just taken your eyes off your Poketch.

"Well- I said i'd be back by sundown, and I don't wanna be late! You promised to stay out of trouble, didn't you?" The Buneary smirked before disappearing upstairs without you.
Part of you wanted to stay in the house, but... you could always come back later. You got to your feet and headed after your friend.

As you left, you glanced at the half-standing walls. A glittering gold mask caught your eye, and- for just a moment- you could've sworn it'd moved. Upon further inspection, however, it turned out to be nothing. And so, you let it be...

-

The next morning brought sunshine into your room bright and early. It took some searching about, but you eventually realized that Erna wasn't even awake yet. Huh.

A cursory glance outside reaffirmed that it was very early. And that you hardly felt tired at all.

This meant only one thing: you had some time to yourself!

What were you going to do with that time?

(since it's already been an hour, I'm gonna write despite the lack of a cohesive settlement. Will incorporate both of these somehow.
Unfortunately, that'll have to be done tomorrow since I've got some family business to attend to and after that I've got to sleep, so I'll post then.)

hi
there was a blackout today
there are still some issues with electricity and internet seems to be intermittent
will post when I can
I’m safe, though! Don’t worry about me. Hopefully these issues’ll be gone soon
>>
>>5669227
Also thank you! I’m glad you like them :)
Will keep the write-in option for later. doesn’t seem to be too efficient with fewer people anyways
>>
>>5670240
*keep the comments about the option in mind for later
>>
(connection (and electrical) issues have mostly cleared up for now, I’ll try and post as frequently as I can from here on out! For now though, just some filler before bed to solidify what happens next)

More than a few possibilities came to mind, all at once. It was hard to properly sift through them- your mind was still a bit foggy after all- so you instead opted simply to head downstairs and get some breakfast before anything else.

As the possibilities began to bloom within your brain and your hand moved to snatch an Oran Berry from a kitchen cabinet, you moved to your side to try and reach for your bag- only to realize that it was nowhere to be found.

Not that you needed to worry about that- it was just laid next to a table cushion in the end- though as you frisked the thing you felt a slight urge to double-check each pocket just in case…

Another glance down the corridor confirmed that Erna remained asleep. Her parents seemed stuck in slumber as well…

Perfect. Whatever you felt like doing could probably be done.
>Go outside and start practicing those Moves you pulled off. You never know when you’ll need them in handy.
>Attempt to read some of Erna’s dad’s books. They’re on a high shelf and most are pretty thick.
>Browse Erna’s mom’s collection of books. They’re a lot more easily-accessible, but built for quadrupeds and likely a bit unwieldy for someone of your stature.
>Take a peek in that little box you bought yesterday- the one with the fancy patterns that lady just dismissed as a “useless tchotchke”.

If we can do both. If not, then just the move practicing.

alright, so
I didn't want to do this, but I'm going to have to put the quest on hold for a while
My schedule got messed up again and I'm starting to realize that maybe launching thread #2 right now was a bad idea

the fact that this keeps getting disrupted is also hampering my desire to keep doing it, so I don't want to force myself
i've got a university to attend and a job to do, and I need to be putting them both at very high priority, so I think for now I'll just put PMD QUEST on hiatus

It's not dead, not forever. I will in fact run this eventually- it's just that now is not the time and I think it'd be unfair to keep stringing you guys along if I'm going to have my plans for it interrupted as frequently as mine are being right now

I'm not going to give a specific date as to when it'll return, nor a timeframe
I'll just put the thread to rest for a little while

See you all when the quest returns

will be adding to the site
next thread will also be called PMD QUEST #2, btw, which is why I marked this one as incomplete
will start from the house again though
>>
>>5675362
Well thank you for telling us at least. Wish ya the best in whatever you have going.

Erna's house or the haunted house?

should've specified
and thanks
>>
>>5675362
That's a shame, but I understand. Real life can suck sometimes.
Good luck with handling the stuff you need to take care of. We can wait patiently for you to come back.

can't wait for the next thread OP
