>What is a quest?
An interactive story in which the QM (Quest Master, Quester Molester, Queer Masochist) writes and provides the readers with options on how to proceed. Dice may or may not be included due to on-site functionality.

Repeatedly sacrifice criminals/undesirables for the sake of industry and pacifying various monsters. Yeah, it's justified, most of them probably deserved it anyways and the alternative could not be entertained. On that note. WHERE'S MY THREAD OVERSEERQM

>Gen Q
In both cases I tend to prefer established MCs/blank slate with options to build the character weaved into the narrative. One of my biggest turn-offs is CYOA-style character building where you select traits/backstories/whatever from a list. Always makes me kind of salty when a build I actually do take the effort to think about and make ends up losing, especially if the people who made it end up dropping the story early on (happens surprisingly often).

>If you could go back in time and change something in your quest, or even warn your players about the consequences, would you? If you would, what is it?

Cut out bloat from updates and go more depth with dialogue. My old dialogue was cringe lol.

>What's the most immoral or evil thing that's happened in a quest you follow? Was it justified? Can you still justify it?

Elf Maiden Quest 3. The femboy assassin maid in stone mask (Nikola / Zahra) throwing a dagger past the lady in red’s head (Rosenchild) because she deadnamed him.

What a petty asshole.
There’s no justifying it. But she is an asshole as well.

>Chargen aside, how much customization do you like to see in your quests? If you're a reader, do you want more frequent descriptions of the MC? If you're a QM, how often do you talk about the MC's look or loadout?

I don’t talk about their appearance much. Whenever I draw my characters, I leave out their expression.

I do occasionally describe their weapons. Not everyone knows what a sidesword or Katzbalger looks like.

>If your favorite quest character had to teach a subject, what would it be? If they're not the teaching type, what would their favorite subject be?

Elf Maiden Lagneia — PE teacher

I’m sure she would be laidback teacher that is very cute and funny.

>You have to pull off a heist. What quest characters do you assemble for your team?

The Greenhorn crew. Yes. Even the rat is included.

>>5644579
>If you could go back in time and change something in your quest, or even warn your players about the consequences, would you? If you would, what is it?
No. I'm usually pretty open about consequences, and it behooves people to do some thinking of their own. if they always know what's going to happen exactly and to the detail, it's almost as bad as having no way to tell. it removes the drama and replaces it with fiddly meta-gaming.

>What's the most immoral or evil thing that's happened in a quest you follow? Was it justified? Can you still justify it?
Probably the drowning of the Chosen One in local Lord. it doesn't mesh as well with the characterization Lord Charles has developed since, though it was an amusing sort of inciting incident, and justifiable given his ignorance and confusion.

>Chargen aside, how much customization do you like to see in your quests? If you're a reader, do you want more frequent descriptions of the MC? If you're a QM, how often do you talk about the MC's look or loadout?
Depends on the quest. I actually quite enjoy chargen and seeing what anons decide or come up with, and customizing outfits and loadouts/equipment can be fun so long as it doesn't get into the weeds with multiple votes of shopping/bartering.

>If your favorite quest character had to teach a subject, what would it be? If they're not the teaching type, what would their favorite subject be?
Why stick with one? Penny from Fork & Spoon would teach Home Ec. Jezyrene from Forgotten Realm would be a PE teacher. Wyald Honta and his crew from Dragon Ball: Legacy would be able to fill a whole host of roles, but probably are best suited to some sort of Ecology and Shop classes. Chris and Zeal from the Schizo QM-verse would teach biology and family planning. Kinja Dulioan from Space Monke would be a good History or Film prof, or maybe a principal. Nagata Miho from Matsuna Idol agency would be a long-suffering career counselor. Sir Charles could teach poetry and Comparative Religion.

>You have to pull off a heist. What quest characters do you assemble for your team?
The Dragon Ball: Legacy or Greenhorn crews or, and I know it's cheating and the quest's been gone a while, one of the Government-Issued GF nakamas.

I was told it was a good idea to post a link to my quest over here, so here goes!

It's a superpower-based quest that's based on a tabletop game I'm currently creating from the ground up. I'm about 80% done with the tabletop and itching to do something fun with the mechanics, so I'm hoping to have a cool quest in the setting.

The main character is currently Sir Ashley Armstrong, a veteran of WW1 trench warfare who finds himself on the front lines yet again when aliens attack London in June of 1944. Armstrong is blasted with alien radiation and finds that he can regenerate from seemingly any injury. He has been joined by fellow WW1 veteran John Barbara Allen, who gained the ability to control fire, and a group of other civilians with new superpowers. Armstrong has successfully fought off his first squad of aliens, saved a soldier and progressed to Level 3, unlocking new barehanded fighting skills.

I'm gonna be sleeping, but if anyone's interested in reviewing my work so far or participating as the quest moves forward, don't be shy!
>>
>>5644755
But she was a Soviet officer. Why is she wearing Hugo Boss fetish gear?
>>
>>5644639
is this quest any good should I read it? (not to be answered by the QM himself)

>>5645078
Yes. Schizo QM quests always have sovl. Would heartily recommend. For best results, read Goblin Assassin Quest and A Dragon's Flash first, but they're not strictly necessary for the Sira Can't/Can Run a Brothel quest.

>QM Question
I'd just make the starts of Quest Within and my current one snappier. In particular, when viewed from the catalogue a particular size of summary fits best.

>General Question
The amount of customisation, well like anything the execution is what matters, large or small, when executed well it'll go well. I don't personally have a preference. For describing an appearance, once on debut, sometimes referenced when relevant and redescribed when a good amount of words have passed or a dramatic need arises.

>For Fun
Criminal Spiderman seems a boring but good pick for a heist.

Additionally, update for The Goblin King is Bored!
>>5645133
After a wild goose chase, the hunters turn out to be the goose that may be getting cooked.
>>
>>5644579

>QM Question:
Maybe space things a bit more in time, but it is my first quest on QST and I think that it has gone mostly without major problems.

>General Question:
As a reader I prefer to have a small bit of customisation to change the character without touching his major characteristics.
I am not describing my characters very often (In a Quest or when I write other things), I try to describe them better when they tries to look after their appearance (like Charles before a lady or the Count's court) or if they are themselves stunned by what they look like (after for exemple not having slept in days and being in dirty conditions). Then it depends on the characters, some people are more obsessed by how they look like than others.

>>5644694
Lord Charles did nothing wrong, the witch had it coming (well she was clearly innocent since she drowned but still, there was a reasonable doubt).

Here’s a brief summary of these quests if you’re interested

>Goblin assassin #1 and #2 (links are in the reopened wounds thread)
The original. Pine, a goblin restaurant owner, works as an assassin and goes on an adventure in the city of Serpents. This is when Cris and Zeal are introduced. Takes place during the early 1500s.

>Goblin assassin - reopened wounds
A slice of life story about Pine after her days as an assassin are mostly behind her. Has a bit of romance. This is when Sira is introduced. Takes place several years after Goblin assassin.

>A Dragon’s Flash
A oneshot story that takes place in hell during the 1600s. The goblin Xil tries to escape her monotonous life and goes on a journey through the layers of hell. I draw heavy inspiration from buddhist mythology for this one.

>Sira cannot run a brothel!
My current project. A lazy brothel keeper perform favors for his crime organization each month to keep his business running.

The fantastical parts in the setting are mainly inspired by buddhist and SEA mythology >>5614654 but I also draw from european history as well https://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/2023/5593108/#p5627619

Pay your taxes. It's theft, yeah - the City definitely isn't spending it for the people's benefit - but the alternative is that you die. Very messily, at that, so...

Just pay them. The City doesn't care how you do it. Get a job, rob some poor bastard of his wallet and/or organs, get a job involving robbing poor bastards of both their wallets and organs... In the City, everything is permitted, so long as you have the necessary strength and pay your respective dues.

Salve Your Tears. Pay In Blood.

>>
>>5645570
Um, the fascists in Italy worked with the King and raised most of their money from powerful landowners, and they operated as a private militia to murder people who asked for a raise.

In Germany, the Nazi regime saw widespread privatization of resources, they purged anyone in their membership who was poor or felt bad for the poor, they were appointed by conservates, and they recruited exclusively from people scared of socialism.

There was literally large, powerful far left parties in Germany. One of which was equal in power to the Nazis, at the height of their power.

The reason why in France, Germany and other Western nations post war... there wasn't any conservative parties, just socialist and Christen parties... is because the leadership of all the conservative ones...were hanged... for working with the fascists.

Have you not seen Schindler's List. Do these people look like socialists to you?

Oh OK my mistake. I think that the OP is pretty promising, but the prose is just a little too fragmented for my tastes. I would recommend going with a writing style that's a bit more engaging - like maybe a first/third person narration rather than a broad setup? That might help your quest attact more readers, even if it is posted on a slow day.
>>
>>5645658
Uhhh, I used to do that and people hated it? Honestly, it's kinda hard to narrate what is happening, if we have no idea who the MC is going to be. Sten guns are a bit weird and phallic-threatening, playing all these military shooters recently including Arena Breakout the !notEscapeFromTarkov clone lol I am obsessed with 7.62x51mm in all these games the ammunition is more important than the gun, for damage I love the configuration of that DSA SA58 OSW the sawn off FAL, I liked the look of that gun ever since I used it in some really old xbox Rainbow Six game.

Anyway, I learnt recently that in Brazil, the FAL is called Fuzil Automatico Pesado, FAP. FAP rifle! This must be the onomatopoeic noise it makes, 7.62x51mm FAP FAP FAP... yay

I am currently running a multi-player (GOOD) fantasy quest. We're trying some unique mechanics based around dice-rolling with an emphasis on teamwork and simple rolls with no or limited modifiers. Each player embodies a class/race role that modifies how they can roll dice and contribute, based on dice sizes. For example, a Fighter is the strongest with a big d10 or d12 die, but is less able to roll a pair (used to sneak or perform a tricky maneuver).

I'd love to turn this into a larger discussion on game mechanics in quests in general, not just my quest, in which the ultimate goal is to create more interactive and interesting quests that aren't just brainless rolling. My ultimate game goal would be a game with little to no hidden information and RNG and allowing players to pick a tactical option with the same depth as a full dice-stat based RPG, but that's a bit beyond my scope and depth of experience at the moment. Does your quest have any unique mechanics?
>>
>>5645697
>Does your quest have any unique mechanics?
Um, I think so? Honestly I want to stray from this level of complexity to an even simpler hexgrid map, with far simpler combat. I believe I did that last time.
>>
>>5645697
Mine is pretty bare-bones, though I've received compliments on the dice system and character leveling. I roll more dice as the player character gets better, critfails only on a 1 and only if no other dice were successes so that getting better increased chance of amazing success AND decreases chance of critical failure. Maxing a stat lowers over all DCs or adds specialty effects and options. Clever write-ins or more optimal choices can result in lower DCs, stacking relevant skills can bet a bonus die.

I'm also pretty happy with my anti-fraud measures, where I tally votes that have multiple votes or backlinks separate from single post IDs and, of I see a suspicious surge of new voters on a controversial vote, I request backlinks and disregard or demote those who can't provide them.

The SA58 the sawn off CQB FAL looks like this by the way. It is apparently not a very good gun in real life (SCAR-H better, urgh call of duty urgh) but I just like the look of it and the intimidating sound blast.

>mechanics
An interesting one I picked up from Tarkov is on healing. In that game, there are so many stats, you have separate health for each limb upper lower torso etc and separate conditions like bleed, pain, broken limbs etc. What I found interesting is that there is also Hydration (water, thirst) and Energy (Food, stamina) etc. You cannot spam healing / medications / stimulants / combat drugs because doing so reduces hydration / increases thirst. Of course you can also carry more food / water but that takes up inventory slots in your rig and backpack, increases carry weight / reduces space for loot that you can retrieve / scavenge etc.

I just thought it was clever as it is the first game I played where healing is not automatically "good", it lowers another stat etc, sometimes you have to think or prepare a bit before healing. Also the food you find sometimes increases energy at the cost of thirst etc (especially salty snacks like crisps, confectionery etc) I also really like how you have to equip ammunition and magazines to your tactical rig, really prepare as you do not want to be manually reloading bullets one-by-one during a firefight hehe.
>>
I got a high level question for other players and questmasters. Do you prefer systems where characters have consistent or exponential progression in everything (Like Pathfinder or D&D 3.5), or systems where people get better at only a few things per level?

Or do you do some system that's like CoC or Elder Scrolls where skills just improve as you use them?
>>5645705
I have that weapon as a minor plot point of my setting and I had it statted in the RPG version.
>>

A mechanic I really wanted to use is that Ironsworn interval roll mechanic eg roll 2d10, 1d6 + modifier and whether the d6+mod lands inside the interval span of the 2d10 roll or not etc. You can do so much with this system (think dice step sizes etc) but infuriatingly the 4chan dice rolls do not permit multiple dice sizes in one roll though argh argh. I have heard it said that the Ironsworn system is just a means of obscuring in a really complicated way a probability that you could better express as a percentage 1d100 though it feels good to roll 2d10 +1d6 when solo roleplaying though if you have different coloured dice etc.

Another good mechanic is the pushed roll you see in some of the Free League Alien / Blade Runner (did it originally come from Mutant Year Zero?) dice pool games, where you can choose to add a d6 to your roll for better chance of success but if ANY of the d6s then roll a 1 you get some stress or trauma inflicted etc. It could be more viable for dice rolls on 4chan and the good thing here is that it is always up to the player's choice whether they think a roll is worth hazarding the peril / additional exertion or not

>arco-flagellants
A lot of my cyberpunk quests feature flailing whip swords hehe. Well this is clearly inspired by those scenes from Abnett's inquisitor Eisenhorn novels, when they unleash the arco-flagellants (I think it is some Xanthite faction traitor inquisitor if I remember, inquisition vs inquisition battle) the concept of these is incredibly cool in my opinion. The idea with those arco-flagellants and their command words hehe always makes me think of Mean Machine Angel from Dredd, with the adjustable murder violence dial on his metal skull

***

Kill them! Kill them!’ Molitor screamed. I felt the immediate pressure of the psychic vice tightening to finish me. Then I reeled away, freed. The psychic blank of Bequin’s untouchable nature shielded me now she was at my side. The servant holding the Necroteuch took a step backwards in surprise.

Molitor, frantic with pain and anger, saw that his powerful psychic was thwarted somehow and yelled ‘Albaara! T’harth!’

Code words. Trigger words. The pair of servants who had remained by his side sprang forward, their robes shredding away.Arco-flagellants. Heretics reprogrammed and rebuilt with augmetics and bionics to serve as murderous slaves. The trigger words woke them from their calming states of bliss and plunged them into maniacal rages.

Out of their robes, they were foul, hunched things, encrusted with crude surgical implants and sacred charms. Their hands were lashing clutches of electrowhips, their eyes dull, bulbous orbits under the rims of the tarnished pacifier helmets bolted to their skulls.

Midas, Bequin and I fired our weapons together, raking them with punishment as they charged forward. The damage they suffered was immense, but still they came on, their bodies pumped with intoxicating adrenal fluid, pain-blockers and frenzy-inducing chemical stimulants. They didn’t feel what we were doing to them.

Most of my quests convey a moral message. They are like bdsm Aesop's fables lol. Not morality in terms of right or wrong THE GOOD vs THE EVIL but more what choices and actions get rewarded versus those which get punished, because sometimes doing "THE GOOD" thing gets punished and doing "THE EVIL" thing gets rewarded hehe (you reach apotheosis and transcend into GODLIKE DUNGEONMASTERY when you can derive masochistic enjoyment from tragic downfall yay and witnessing your own character's suffering this is probably what Christianity or the Golden Bough or whatever Rene Girard scapegoat mimetic philosophy is about argh). Conversely a weak narrative which I dislike (it happens even in really fun games like Baldurs Gate, Pillars Of Eternity etc) is when the storyline just describes you becoming an actual god. But what those writers do not understand is that the point of the god-king is to be sacrificed etc (this is the recurrent imagery in Judaeo-Christian narratives). It is stronger to depict suffering (Oedipus, Orpheus, Gilgamesh/Enkidu, Beowulf, just look at every Western myth etc) than to endlessly narrate all-powerful godlike ascension.

I don't think a lot of anons imbue their quests with a moral message. All games in a way should convey a world view and pattern of moral instruction and sometimes with sci-fi or cyberpunk or swords and sorcery or gothic horror etc you can explore elaborate extremes of decision choices etc and worlds with different moral perspectives to your own. The most advanced games probably do not need to rely upon the genre embellishments the laser guns or robot girls or dragon castles and vampire sorcerors etc to convey this (very difficult to create and play these though). I think the moral instruction element of games is what I mean when I describe some game settings as possessing "the vision" etc.

Unrelated to Arthur Rackham the Aesop illustrator here, but since a lot of anons like goblins and dwarves I strongly recommend the art of Paul Bonner who did a lot of the French Rackham Confrontation / Cadwallon etc rpg miniatures and world art designs. I don't know anything about the rules but I did just gawk at all the art and lore in their rulebooks which do have some good fantasy faction names for inspiration too.

You can search for those but his Rackham / Confrontation art has a sort of manic demented expressive feel whilst retaining a lifelike believability and a very traditional fantasy look. Often I imagine his art as looking more like warhammer fantasy (in my mind) than the actual warhammer fantasy art itself nowadays hehe

>Mechanics
Each goblin in mine is represented by at least a 1d6. In many circumstances rolling a 1 results in a KO or death of a goblin. As of this post I have three trials tied to most choices.

Fate: Goblins must beat the average result of the sum of their rolls. 1s and 2s are death, normally no KOs. Trials of fate give big results, but chew up goblin counts

Force: the goblins' rolls against an opposing roll

Talent: QM rolls 1d6 for a target that must be met or beaten, additionally the QM rolls 1d#ofGoblins for how many successes are needed. Normally only KOs result from Trials of Talent.

There's also Moments of Fate, where goblins must roll a 6 or die, usually tied to some great chance amid danger, but sometimes it's just exposure to something way beyond a goblin.

It is a work in progress, but hasn't caused too many problems thus far.

Speaking of that, The Goblin King is Bored! Update

It's fine to just have fun, but then even trolley problem tier problems can be considered fun. Yes, it can be fun to bear one's spirit at others, to lure others into bearing theirs. If nothing else, it is interesting what choices people make and refuse to make when under the realm of fiction.

It's a lot easier to write without philosophies and religions weaved in though, often people just end up spoiled ham when the attempt is made. Still, games like Alpha Centauri or books like the Lord of the Rings prove the worth. It can lend an enduring quality to things, Aesop's fables are still beloved today after all.

>Tau
I have to admit I don't know anything about Tau (40k trying to do anime mechas, they have some railguns? or culturally appropriate Indian caste system?), Necrons (some Star Dragon thing?) in fact I am not too strong on Orks or genestealers and tyrannids either.

My fascination with 40k is mainly the Abnett cycle of Eisenhorn, Ravenor, Pariah / Bequin and also Abnett Gaunt's Ghosts etc for me I prefer the imperium to be human only fighting against the Enemy Within (chaos heretics etc). I think actually Ravenor features Eldar if I remember but by then he is just a floating psychic gun coffin / not plagiarism of Captain Picard in a wheelchair from X-men (?) so it is not too much of an issue.

There is a cool Abnett story called Blood Pact in the Gaunt / Tanith cycle which is reversed, ie instead of the regiment assaulting a chaos enclave, they are resting in the barracks and this chaos cell tries to infiltrate their sanctuary / safe shrine world. It is also interesting because the loyalties are a bit reversed (the chaos infiltrators are there to kill this High Value Target, one of their own captured commanders - but then this chaos commander then decides to aid Gaunt / Imperium regiment and Gaunt actually starts using some weird demonic blood magic too as the battle unfolds). I like these stories which are mostly human and about conflicting loyalties, a lot of the Abnett Gaunt stories have a WW2 French resistance fighter feel etc.

In that Blood Pact story Abnett also does a bit of sly metacommentary because the novel is set on a safe militarised memorial world to an Imperial victory (like a massive war memorial victory cemetery monument world) and the regiment meet this diffident commemorative artist (see excerpt below). I think it is Abnett's metanarrative of how he as an author remixes old historical war narratives and repurposes them for wh40k:

Gaunt walked towards the bright vista. It was untouched. War-clean. It was Balopolis as it had been.

“How do you get the uniform details right?” Gaunt asked.

“To be honest,” said Jaume, “many of the old picts I’m given to work from are not in formal dress, or sometimes the uniforms just aren’t very… compelling. Heroic, if you like. The families are always keen to make their loved one look as dashing and martial as possible.”

“So you make it up?” asked Gaunt.

The best depiction of this was demonstrated by Remedy, I had mixed feelings playing CONTROL (wish they just did Max Payne style real guns instead of the SCP style gunfights and silly transforming revolver) but we know they are masters of the "fictional in-universe TV programme within the game" genre ever since "Dick Justice" lol in Max Payne 1,2 and Alan Wake etc.

So in CONTROL there is a disturbing educational children's TV show called Threshold Kids, the music is very catchy

Here is a youtube I found that shows all the episodes found in-game linked together; hopefully this sample episode (begins 1min 47seconds please let my timestamp link work) gives a sense of the style of this children's tv show

But then we got the MGSV Quiet (who is a plant, a photosynthesising bikini sniper vegetable plant) waterboarding / conveniently avoided sexual violence revenge ear-biting groin-stamping cutscene. I admit I always liked how that author managed to tweak and have a different situation in like every book. It never really got samey to me, even as it technically was just one human regiment repeatedly battling across different planets.

Like they're doing a desperate last stand in one book, then trying to infiltrate and start a resistance on an occupied world in another book, then trying to siege a fortress in another. Even if the enemy was almost always 'heretics and traitors' rather than aliens, he always changed it slightly to keep it fresh.

My favourite bit of Gaunt's Ghosts novels is when he meets the Marsh Man Eszrah (?)and his tribe, Dan Abnett shows off how he studied some Saxon etymology at Oxford lol. Also I believe from reading the Faerie Queene by Spenser I think the y- prefix is archaic akin to asunder, aboil, afire, aware, alike etc. eg yclad, yslain, yronne (i.e. "ran") yclept etc

https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/yclept
From Middle English yclept, ycleped, iclept [and other forms] (i-, y- (prefix forming past participles)[1] + clepen (“to say, speak, utter; to call, shout; to name; to address; to appeal to, beg, pray; to ask, request; to appear; to send for, summon; to convene; to call forth, induce; to lay claim”

***

“Histye, soule,” Gaunt said, more deliberately now. “Ayeam yclept Gaunt of Tanith His Worlde. Preyathee, hwat yclepted esthow?”

“Cynulff ayeam yclept,” the partisan replied. “Of Geryun His Worlde.” His voice dripped like glue in the sweaty air.

“Histye, Cynulff,” said Gaunt. “Biddye hallow, andso of sed hallow yitt meanye goode rest.”

“Are you off your fething nut?” Rawne whispered.

“Shut up, Rawne,” Curth spat. “Can’t you see he’s getting somewhere?”

Gaunt dared another step forward.

Well from my visual inspiration image folder I retrieved this picture. It is purportedly the graffiti scrawl of some children recalling the aftermath of a helicopter raid on their dwellings in Afghanistan. Somehow when I watch Escape From Tarkov raids or Arma combined arms milsim youtube videos lol they never capture this feel hehe

The style of this graffiti art is somewhat representative of postminimalist faux primitivism, perhaps also what in galleries is sometimes called Naive Art. I like to imagine these scrawled etched lines being rediscovered like prehistoric Lascaux cave paintings by Ballardian robot archaeologists of the future, wandering in the ruined, cavernous crater-hives of postwar civilisational debris; robots who try in vain to decipher and remember its lost human meaning.

Either a dumb bait thread like the three maga quests currently active, a generic fantasy quest OP made with zero plan and will abandon instantly, and the every so often AI quest that of course gets laughed off the board because having AI that doesn’t understand long term context write your quest for you is retarded and lazy. While /qst/ being excised to a containment board hurt membership and activity, it ironically preserved our civility and mellow atmosphere.

I said it last thread and I'll say it again. A small userbase isn't bad. We have a Trump quest and Femboy quests. Both are given a fair chance with minimal bitching. The Dog busters march died after the original op dumped his waifu images, a anon has been running it for months now. The population is small but actually gives a fuck about the subject. Compare to /tv/ where the Mario threads argue about politics and whether it's woke or not.

>I'm pretty sure it's one of the characters from Panzer Commander quest
No, it isn't. At all, whatsoever.

Anyways.

So, in the case of every other picture I've done for the OP in an effort to have the image mixed up a bit from being plain text on color, I have chosen not to say why I've either posted or provided that particular picture, because I thought I could respect people's intelligence enough for them to either figure it out on their own or at the very least not have it be important, yes I see that in this case this is, sadly, a necessary explanation. The position that is held by the people I'd want to convince is likely so ingrained into their way of thinking that I doubt I'll change any minds, but at this point it's getting really annoying for the point to be missed this hard.

I'll have to break down each point laboriously.
>Is this a Nazi?
The design is heavily inspired by SS uniforms, yes, but it is fictitious, and the intent is completely different from certain uncharitable assumptions. You see, I don't know how many people know this, but World War 2 was the most significant event in the last century for many of the people who lived through it, and the imagery of the Third Reich and both its war materiel and its political aesthetic have been made into visual design short hand for BAD GUY ever since. There is a shit ton of media that uses blatant design inspiration this way. Which leads into the next point.
>Is this an endorsement of German National Socialism?
I don't know why this even has to be explained, but apparently it does. No, no it is not, you reddit-brained retard, and you know who you are without me having to go back and quote posts. This is such an utterly absurd premise that it belongs in a hearing on how metal music corrupts children, or how video games influence violence. This is not a political statement, it is not a call for arms, it is a cartoon broad. The cigar is just a cigar, and that's not a dog whistle you're hearing, it's tinnitus.
>But why is cartoon girl dressed like this and not like anything else?
Because the original date of posting was going to be the twentieth of April. By complete coincidence, International Smoke Weed day is the same day as the birth date of one of the most infamous people in modern history. This is very funny to point out to people who don't know.
That's it. The base is a joke, the rest is a hopefully neat picture. Whether or not you think the joke is funny or the picture is cool is besides the point, but it highlights why I think takes like-
>This board benefits from not being some partisan culture war bullshit battleground.
> I'd be saying the same if they'd posted up some sort of obvious progressive or Soviet thing.
Are just foolish. Where are we, again? Are we not allowed to make light of this thing that is as far back in history as the American Civil War was at the time of World War 2?
>>
>>5646560
Now since I've stated my case on why something that really ought not to have to be explained is the way it is, I want to say why I didn't want to explain it, as though that has to be articulated on a board made to express creativity. When you make something, you want people to look at it, to analyze it, to think about it. You don't explain every single bit of it and insist on your exact interpretation to the dot, not unless you're in this game for reasons that you'll quickly grow dissatisfied and disillusioned with. Whenever I make an OP image with a scene or a character in it, the intention hasn't been for people to ask "what quest is this referring to" or, for God knows what reason, "Is this a show of support for some movement I disapprove of?" It's been to make people look at it and come up with a story based off of what they see. You know, a creative exercise, for a creative writing board. I feel like for a messy gathering place of /qst/'s denizens, a particular showcase or reference is in poor form, so when I make something for the OP image, it's always its own thing. The idea is for it to be the quest OP image for a quest that does not exist. It isn't from anything, it isn't a quest reference, it's standalone, and with just a bit of imagination, you can make it any story you want.

In a disappointing show, a few of you see it and have decided that it is a secret taunt from your real life enemies, or a potential banner for them to rally around. This is not the thought process of a "normal person", let alone a creative, this is how Paranoid Schizophrenics think. It's a step away from being Terry Davis, God rest his tormented soul, and believing that when things go wrong it's because of a government agent of particular luminosity and skin tone.

TL;DR-
>>5645052
>Why is she wearing Hugo Boss fetish gear?
Because it's eye catching and it's a fake OP for a quest that doesn't exist, presumably about Imperialist magical girls or whatever you think the character would be from.

Something I learned, is if you want to be able to do combat or wargaming, of various levels of complexity, you need to know a lot of systems and be able to convert between them at will.

The players killed a succubus that was nice to them in cold blood litterally cause one dude vote brigaded it to piss off a guy who liked waifus in QTNG. It was not justified cause the game fell apart immediately after cause the people who wanted to play lost their waifu before the game started and the people who actually voted got their scalp and stopped caring.

I like customization a lot, because it makes it feel more like a quest, since the difference from it and a fanfic is your voting on a story.

I really do avoid writing description a lot, probbably to my detriment, and especially of Gurie. I think it makes the quest seem less waifuy but maybe itd be easier if i showcased more that your playing a gremlin.

Cyberpunk or biopunk settigs, age of exploration style stuff, the modern or near-modern era without fantastical embellishments (or without MANY, even). Also, more trippy, illogical "Wonderland" or "Oz" style settings. Most stuff here seems to be farflung future (space empires or post-apoc), wuxia/cultivation style Asian stuff, D&D fantasy, an established property, or some world event (often WWII) plus magic or scifi. I always enjoy checking out the stuff which breaks this mold.

How far flung is the Post Apoc that you dislike?

Would fantasy be more bearable if it was more Dark Ages or Roman?
>>
>>5646831
Stone age fantasy or bust.
>>
>>5646831
>Or am I misunderstanding?
Yes. I don't dislike any of the common settings for find them unbearable. I even said as much (in the spoiler, with lots of typos, but still). The popular genres are fine, I just would like to see more temporal and cultural reference-points.

>how do cyberpunk in modern setting without fantastical elements?

These were all DIFFERENT settings I'd like to see more of. The -punk settings and modern realism or near-realism were two different things I enjoy, though verh near-future bio or cyberpunk could probably bridge the two in some ways.

>how far-flung an apocalypse?
Interesting question. If it's far-flung ENOUGH, it ceases even to really be "post-apocalypse" in a way, and just becomes a whole new setting with the real world and present era merely a footnote in the lore.

>Dark Ages or Roman
Roman or otherwise Bronze Age Mediterranean quests being more common, with an emphasis on the big trading networks and strange cultural hodgepodge on exoanding or established empire could be pretty rad. Maybe senatorial political shenanigans, or gladiator and olympics athleticism, or establishing and maintaining a mystery cult, or subjugating barbarian/rebelling against the empire in a distant province?

>>5646839
>stone-age fantasy
Also a very cool idea.
>>
>>5646820
I think the least used genre is the "Scrappy kid finds X" kinda movies.
Even in kids media shows like the pokemon ones... Gurie and Penny are adults.

We have space, fantasy, modern, but few with a actual kid, and theres a whole genre of ETs, Iron Giants and Stranger Things we dont bother with, or only do from a adult lens.

Also... Gothic seems relatively underutilized for how successful it can be when its done.

I also think most of the Leader games are about being a bad man in a bad world (that MAY be worse than you). There isnt something like Star Wars Rebel leader stuff.

The most relatively unused stuff tends to be in the less edgy/gritty section of the spectrum.

Besides that... idk innerwar?

MANNERPUNK
Corsets! Petticoats! Jane Austen wife simulation! hehe

Something I realised recently watching two Scorsese films, the Edith Wharton period piece adaptation The Age Of Innocence (1993) and rewatching Gangs Of New York (2002) is that these two films are set within a decade of each other 1860s, 1870s. I remember not liking Gangs Of New York when I watched it the first time round, I found it just ridiculous and the violence confusing (simultaneously too violent... yet not violent enough, like when Daniel Day Lewis in butcher cleaver knife maniac mode mutilates DiCaprio's face as a gang punishment... it is fine, he is literally fine afterwards, not really even much of a scar lol).

This time round, I still do not really like the film, but it feels politically prescient, released around 9/11 and very profound (it has an interesting demonstration of immigration, racial tensions, democracy electioneering... with knives. Also, naughty historical use of the special n word that Mark Twain likes very much). Cameron Diaz is somehow not very attractive or desirable in this film, but Daniel Day-Lewis gives a mesmerising bloodcurdling Shakespearean-tier performance. There is a memorable scene where some character accuses him of "you do not know what you are doing to yourself!!" and in response, Daniel Day-Lewis uses a knife to tap at the glass in his own eye socket (he gouged out his own eye lol). I don't know if this was some Scorsese cinematic homage to the notorious Un Chien Andalou (1929) eye-cutting scene, but it was pretty dramatic. If you listen to Daniel Day Lewis and the Titus Andronicus style rambling he delivers near the end of the film, it is pretty obvious that he is meant to embody America:

Bill: No, I don't never sleep too much. I have to sleep with one eye open, and I only got one eye, right? How old are you, Amsterdam?
Amsterdam: I'm not sure, sir. I never did quite figure it.
Bill: I'm forty-seven. Forty-seven years old. You know how come I stayed alive this long? Fear. A spectacle of fearsome acts. A man steals from me, I cut off his hands. If he offends me, I cut out his tongue. He rises up against me, I cut off his head, stick it on a pike. Raise it up high so all on the streets can see. That's what preserves the order of things. Fear. That one tonight, who was he? A nobody. A coward. What an ignominious end that would have been. I killed the last honorable man fifteen years ago. Since then, it's... You seen his portrait downstairs?
Amsterdam: Mm-hmm.
Bill: Is your mouth all glued up with cunny juice? I asked you a question.
Amsterdam: [angrily] I said I seen it, sir.
Bill: [smiles] Oh, you got a murderous rage in you, and I like it. It's life, boiling up inside of you. It's good. The Priest and me, we lived by the same principles. It was only faith divided us. He gave me this, you know. That was the finest beating I ever took. My face was pulp, my guts was pierced, and my ribs was all mashed up. And when he came to finish me, I couldn't look him in the eye. He spared me because he wanted me to live in shame. This was a great man. A great man. So I cut out the eye that looked away. Sent it to him wrapped in blue paper. I would have cut 'em both out if I could have fought him blind. Then I rose back up again with a full heart and buried him in his own blood.
Amsterdam: [pause] Well done.
Bill: He was the only man I ever killed worth remembering. I never had a son. Civilization is crumbling. [places a hand on Amsterdam's head] God bless you.

Anyway my point contrasting these two films is because I was trying to think of a way in which to combine some videogame violence with MANNERPUNK costume / period drama. hehe I did all the endings I played both Dishonored games so many times (only did Death Of The Outsider once though, I did not like the levels as much in that addon, also the lore ending on the Outsider just felt wrong, it eliminated all the mystery). My first playthrough of all Dishonored games usually super noblebright I killed no-one, used no weapons and stealth choked everyone for the happy happy ending. All subsequent playthroughs were murder maniac playthroughs, I did things like no gun, no magic, no runes, sword only, only magic, only bombs gadgets etc etc.

The true enemy of Dishonored (first game) is those INFURIATING RIVER KRUSTS what the hell is this Half Life 2 style rage-inducing spitting acid enemy doing in the game, all I want to do is knife dismember humans I cannot knife dismember a stupid mollusc. Also you know because of stupid game completionist pearl collecting you have to fight them all even in a no gun no gadget sword only run etc.

Dishonored fell off.
Dishonored DLCs were the peak of the franchise. Dishonored 2 was alright, but the magic was lost. The plot doesnt exactly makes sense (a few weeks into her reign and delilah already fucked the isles beyond belief)

I just use the explosive shot on my pistol to take them out. A sticky grenade also works.

I do take some inspiration from it, though. Their swords look similar to sidesword designs and their wheellock pistols are definitely something people in the 1500-1600s would use. so why not make a quest during such a time period?

dishonored 1 dlc I completely agree was amazing, the witch mansion level, the whale factory and the Daud gang battle versus the Overseers etc. I would also agree that Dishonored 1 had the more compelling storyline, but Dishonored 2 had AMAZING levels the time travel one (the dual past-present mansion with that mirror device thing), the Jindosh puzzle, the incredible folding rearranging mechanical inventor mansion level, that Hypatia island throwback to Thief hehe and Bioshock, and my favourite level which is that Royal Museum one that hints at the Pandyssian continent with all the witches, the stuffed animals exotic taxidermy etc - I like that one best because if I remember it is one of the biggest contiguous levels with no loading screen from the canal to the streets to the museum interior.

I also admit I do not usually play as female protagonists but Emily voice acting is really good (especially if you go high chaos murder maniac, she delivers some cruel revenge voice lines when encountering random map objects) also I think her gun is slightly cooler (I like the Target Pistol blended flintlock look) and also her Blink / creepy shadow crawl arms looks slightly better to me. Incidentally if you like that Dishonored Shadow Walk ability from Emily I recommend checking out Vampyr (maybe just youtube it, the overall videogame is not that good, but I still completed it) which has a few abilities that look even more amazing

Also a lot of people no longer remember it but there was this videogame called Prototype (I think I actually played Prototype 2) where you play as Tetsuo Body Hammer or something basically imagine that scene with the meat arm from Akira lol except as a videogame, a transforming human flesh sword which sort of fits the theme I mentioned earlier about wh40k arco-flagellants hehe.

Oh and on the theme of flailing shadow arms and dual wielding desert eagles hehe, there is also the Darkness 1 and 2. I remember the endearing girlfriend sofa scene in those games, there was also some long world war 1 section (why?) and I remember several times I thought the game ended... except it carried on lol and then went on and on even further slightly outstaying its welcome. So maybe the whole body gun tentacle theme has been fairly well explored by videogames already.

Olivier Deriviere is indeed a very unique composer. I do not remember the music he did for Vampyr so much, but I did really like his cyberpunk glitch orchestral (?) music he did for Remember Me (the Neo-Paris combo fighting game, also it had very interesting futuristic fashion and concept art).

Also, there was some amazing music I remember not on the official OST release, it ia the song that comes on during the Kid Xmas punching combo fistfight
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EOxWeF0TY2E

I think I really like this genre of futurist orchestral because of Unreal Tournament and ut2k3, ut2k4 lol basically it sounds like Unreal Tournament menu music, I loved those games so much. Nobody remembers this they are all playing Fortnite now instead nooooo

Anyway too much knife dismemberment shadow tentacles here is the most tender and famous lighthouse scene from Edith Wharton The Age Of Innocence. What is happening is that Daniel Day Lewis / Newland Archer is contemplating infidelity to his betrothed May Welland / Winona Ryder (how could you?!?) with the scandalous Countess Olenska (Michelle Pfeiffer, I am sorry she just looks frizzled and unattractive in this film. Please try Batman Returns catsuit version instead).

The Countess has her back turned to him in the pier; she has not seen him. So Daniel Day Lewis makes a bet with himself to approach her if and only if she turns round and sees him before the boat in the distance passes the lighthouse.

It is this scene from the novel:

***
"She doesn't know—she hasn't guessed. Shouldn't I know if she came up behind me, I wonder?" he mused; and suddenly he said to himself: "If she doesn't turn before that sail crosses the Lime Rock light I'll go back."

The boat was gliding out on the receding tide. It slid before the Lime Rock, blotted out Ida Lewis's little house, and passed across the turret in which the light was hung. Archer waited till a wide space of water sparkled between the last reef of the island and the stern of the boat; but still the figure in the summer-house did not move.

He turned and walked up the hill.

***

The scene is actually reminiscent of a more famous literary short story, by Henry James called The Beast In The Jungle. You would think it has a promising Lovecraft Cthulhu title but in this story nothing happens it is just about a young man who fails to ask out a young lady companion. He just fails at courtship for his whole entire life
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beast_in_the_Jungle

So I wonder if there is a way to juxtapose this sort of tenderness, the psychodrama minutiae inner emotional turmoil dynamics with ASSAULT RIFLES VIDEOGAME ULTRAVIOLENCE SHADOW ARM TENTACLES and create Tom Clancy Jane Austen wife simulation MANNERPUNK. hmmm hmmm

Somehow I am almost convinced that if I can manage to unify Jane Austen with tactical military shooters like Hegelian synthesis in a creative genre setting, or whatever Baz Luhrmann did in Romeo+Juliet, transcendental peace contentment and understanding will be established throughout the world. Because fundamentally it is about reconciling how all of modern governance begins with Enlightenment Classical era 18th-19th Century Locke Stuart Mill convoluted exposition and ends in the A2 flash hider of some ar15. Having analysed my limited cinematic recollections of films like
Green Zone
Tears Of The Sun
The Kingdom
The Unit
The Hurt Locker
Zero Dark Thirty
Black Hawk Down
Sicario
Shooter (2007)
Rambo (2008)
I have determined the optimal title for this setting to be
BLACK ZONE: ZERO TEARS DOWN The Green Dark Hurt Unit.

The titular hero could be called something like, "Monsieur Raimbeau"

Maybe what I can try is to take some basic narrative units (narremes?) from both genres and just mix them randomly, hmmm like this

1 An eligible bachelor arrives in town
2 A scandalous message is delivered
3 A ballroom dance with a romantic rival
4 A young lady is introduced into polite society
5 An elderly relative dies, leaving a bitter inheritance
6 A picnic gathering on a hill
7 A romantic encounter outside in the rain
8 An unwanted confidence from an aggravating acquaintance, awkwardly swearing the listener to secrecy
9 After seeing his MASSIVE MANSION he becomes quite handsome and appealing after all
10 A secret elopement from disapproving relatives

(...)

1 A helicopter crashes because this is just how levels transition in Call Of Duty
2 Time to GO DARK in Low Visibility Operations, knobbly night vision optics yay
3 Firing a massive Barrett rifle at a distant target, then just... waiting. And watching
4 Triggering a webbed wire tangle of IEDs whilst perspiring and panting in a bulky EOD suit
5 The helpless refugee you are protecting is actually wearing a hidden transmitter to the enemy
6 Sorry Matt Damon, but our weapons of mass destruction are in another country
7 It is the predictable rescue the jungle NGO missionaries but at least the charity lady is quite attractive
8 Some sort of SERE scenario in the wilderness goes awry
9 A highway shootout and carjacking as part of extraordinary rendition against the Cartel
10 One of the operators has gone renegade, and is now hunting their own

Ok well this failed, it is beyond my abilities, it is just too difficult reconciling these genres, please see the Fifty Shades Of Grey helicopter ride film scene where he cinches her seatbelt very tightly, that was the most erotic portion of the film for me

Fifty Shades Of Grey Helicopter Scene

(weird coincidence, I think the actor who plays her chauffeur / bodyguard ? driver is one of the main tactical guys from The Unit. He was quite good in that TV show. And bizarrely Pride and Prejudice lady from zero dark thirty is also in this film, pretending to be American)

Anyway maybe you can try the narreme / narrative unit recombinant technique with more viable settings in an attempt to create new genres, I think Tom Clancy Jane Austen tactical military shooter is just too difficult

>>
>>5647383
Souv called it Mannerpunk above, and I believe it's his idiosyncratic term for what is kroe ocmmonly called the "fantasy of manners" subgenre, which focuses on comedies and tragedies centred around social heirarchues, conventions, and obligations (ie. manners, not manors, though the events which spiral out may indeed involce manors and estates of various sorts). I can only guess contextually that mannerPUNK would emphasize the grittier, more targic aspects of the subgenre, such as doomed marriages forced upon missrable people by familial arrangement or social convention, mistreatment of the servants or the indebted, etcetera. I guess Merchant of Venice is sort of mannerpunk, with Shylock's misery and fury and his vindictive attempt to use the court system to tear a chunk out of a guy. Django Unchained might qualify as well, or even something like 50 Shades of Grey, Trading Places, or Ex Machina, since they prominently feature social elites playing cruel games with underlings and fellows, though there sems to be annimplication of a Victorian time period in the way Souv presents it.

ye especially when the normal revisions to perfection ratio can be as high as a billion to one. often, good ideas don't get better with more intention tossed on them. just like glorious japanese katana, folded a mirrion times to achieve the incredible height of metal strength that is slightly less than that of a karas bolt pen.

refinement is limited to perspective, and easily it follows, it's more useful to expand ones depths and reach to enable refinement that matters than it is to pour over a page for sixteen years. it's why real writers use other people to bounce off of to help their own ideas mature, using feedback checks from people who understand similar material etc.

the harder it is to write something, usually the more serious its writer treats the material. this is bad juju, lacks adaptability, and kills motivation. it's the acid residue of applied passion, corrosive and ass smelly. you didn't ask for advice, but identifying dislikes in what you've written means your mind is performing as it should to the critical extent. it's just one step of a necessary many.

>cyberpunk in modern setting without fantastical elements?
>modern realism or near-realism
I recommend looking up the real-life MITRE ATT&CK matrix for this. It is weird because it reminded me a bit of the Mike Pondsmith R Talsorian Cyberpunk ttrpg edition (cannot remember which one) that had all these "hacker" techniques that were sort of like wizard spells in cyberspace (just all capitals codenames something like FIREBALL etc lol) which you loaded into your hacker cyberdeck lol.

The most bizarre cyberpunk thing I saw a few days ago was this msft announcement pic related.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/security/intelligence/microsoft-threat-actor-naming?view=o365-worldwide
How Microsoft names threat actors
04/20/2023
>Microsoft has shifted to a new naming taxonomy for threat actors aligned with the theme of weather. With the new taxonomy, we intend to bring better clarity to customers (...)

basically Blizzard - Russia, Typhoon - China, Sandstorm - Iran, Sleet - N Korea, etc etc (see pic related for really weird hacker codenames full list) Also, the list of these codenames give The Flood from Halo a new meaning lol

This really confused me as I was searching for headlines on MSFT ATVI (Microsoft Activision Blizzard acquisition)

I was actually familiar with some of the old codes like APT(number) etc not sure why they changed it. Also the biggest secret unmentioned threat actor, the clue is in the name

>Microsoft categorizes threat actors into five key groups:
>Nation-state actors (...)
>Nation State Actor
>NSA
hehe
>>
>>5647911
Ah I think I found it, I remembered it slightly wrong but the basic idea of netrunner / hacker programs as Vancian spells loaded into a cyberdeck manifesting in cyberspace is there. They have names like Liche, Firestarter, Shield, Hellbolt, Dragon, Wizard Book, etc. I thought it was an interesting cross-genre imagination of "hacking" gameplay lol. I suppose it is a better rpg implementation than the Deus Ex click on little computers rapidly in a network graph hehe

The real-life MITRE ATT&CK matrix technique names are actually cooler though

For better codenames you can always just look up all the Snowden NSA revealed programs that had poetic names I have a vague memory some of them came from World Of Warcraft or Harry Potter lol. Strangely difficult finding those old articles on the internet nowadays, I am a bit suspicious of some of those internet compilation lists because they omit programs I remember asking cyber people about at the time like ETERNALBLUE and DOUBLEPULSAR

https://anonchatgpt.com/

I strongly recommend reading this article on counterfeit cognition I found it very profound and interesting

https://medium.com/@shlomi.sher/on-artifice-and-intelligence-f19224281bee

The point of this article is with imitative intelligence, you do not test it with more impenetrable complex difficult questions, you test it with simple stupid ones.

The article is also quite interesting as it tries to extrapolate the effect of when LLMs internalise and incorporate these tests surpassing them in an attempt to improve themselves

An idea I had was using some psychological models for RPG narrative attributes instead of the typical dnd parameters. Disco Elysium sort of approached it (I have not played this game) with the interior monologue but still a bit dnd skill check oriented though eg motorics etc. but also there is that pbta cyberpunk ttrpg The Veil which models emotion spikes and states of feelings (the stats on character playbooks are feelings, mad, peaceful, joyful, scared etc)

Before you think it is something cringe like MASLOW HIERARCHY OF NEEDS The RPG lol I thought of it being as something a bit like the Control - Identity - Arousal model. I read a lot of random psychology from Freud onwards a lot of finance people use behavioural heuristics hehe some of it is a bit pseudoscientific and indistinguishable if not academically referenced. But there is just a summary of this psychological needs model on this website here

https://changingminds.org/explanations/needs/cia.htm

CONTROL
these are like the skills to alter the external environment, to influence other people also (implies trust).

IDENTITY
Beliefs and values and implicit understanding of social status, hierarchy, esteem and self in relation to others etc

AROUSAL
no it is not that thing (well it could be...?!) but it is literally feelings, the feedback of pleasure pain excitement etc. This is important because the "good' and "bad" feels are needed for learning, they are essentially the feedback / reward / punish reinforcement to improve or stay alive

So I think this model is very interesting much better than Maslow Hierarchy of needs lol it made me think what would an rpg look like where instead of a Stat like STRENGTH or INTELLIGENCE WISDOM lol you had stats like TRUST or ESTEEM etc. Because implicitly you can only establish your character "Strength" etc in relation to other factions and group influences in the world.

Also another thing I immediately thought about was situating items gear and equipment in the context of this psychological needs model.
For example typically in rpgs a sword is like +5 yay I can defeat stronger AC but what about if you think of weapons or items or equipment not just in terms of function (ie CONTROL) but signalling IDENTITY or AROUSAL / feelings etc.

For example, maybe you need to carry some items just to indicate belonging to a certain faction or possessing a certain affiliated group status etc or experience / achievement (I have experimented with this in some of my symbolic game settings) Maybe you need to carry an item to indictate you have passed an arduous trial etc or as a memento of some past experience. So the game is not about gathering items that give you better dice combat modifiers etc but finding items which can increase your belonging and connection with factions and NPCs, world characters
>>
>>5647944
>>5648001
Another use of that changingminds.org website I really like is because it offers an extremely concise compendium of persuasion techniques (none of those bloated paragraphs of search engine optimisation blog post style open with a personal anecdote blah blah etc) it just immediately gives applicable information as to what to do.

For instance maybe you recognise this one, how to encourage someone to agree / say yes

https://changingminds.org/disciplines/sales/closing/yes-set_close.htm
>Ask them several questions where the answer is easy to answer and is 'yes'. Then tag on the question at the end for which you really want the answer 'yes'.

The fundamental principle behind this one is that of repetitive frequency-validation, habituation and lowering of resistance to phenomenon that is just frequently repeated over and over again.

You see this technique all the time in advertising and news broadcasts and propaganda. I like how the website just compiles so many of these different techniques, even if some may overlap or not be that academically rigorous / empirically verifiable etc. At least it is better than dnd mindless roll charisma to persuade hehe.

I was investigating this partly in conjunction with thinking about ChatGPT and the LLMs, because this site has been obviously manually compiled and collated just by someone who is pretty dedicated lol. But maybe the language models with all their text inference training and gargantuan voluminous datasets can somehow converge upon these manipulative responses as a game theoretic focal point, maybe this is their appeal. Because the text communication that survives and succeeds and is rewarded probably implicitly makes use of these rhetorical / manipulative techniques etc even if to most they are unnamed with the majority of people being unaware of them.

The Sermon

Once upon a time, Nasreddin was invited to deliver a sermon.

When he got on the pulpit, he asked: Do you know what I am going to say? The audience replied "no", so he announced: I have no desire to speak to people who don't even know what I will be talking about! and left.

The people felt embarrassed and called him back again the next day. This time, when he asked the same question, the people replied yes.

So Nasreddin said: Well, since you already know what I am going to say, I won't waste any more of your time! and left.

Now the people were really perplexed. They decided to try one more time and once again invited the Mullah to speak the following week.

Once again he asked the same question – Do you know what I am going to say?

Now the people were prepared and so half of them answered "yes" while the other half replied "no".

So Nasreddin said: Let the half who know what I am going to say tell it to the half who don't, and left.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_Kiev_speech

And in some of my game settings there are references to a game-within-a game, I called it Shahmat (old name for chess, from "checkmate" etymology the Persian phrase "Shah Mat", ie The King Is Dead). However I imagine the fictional game within my fantasy game world less like chess, more like a ttrpg though hehe. I was actually inspired by a section from Tad Williams Memory Sorrow Thorn (the !notElves Sithi race have an elaborate ceremonial ritual game) and also those tales from old Welsh Mabinogion / King Arthur legends where a king plays a dream game that becomes real on the battlefield. I just really like these myths and legends hehe

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dream_of_Rhonabwy

The only Middle Eastern poem I remember (Arabic not Persian) is I think Al Mutanabbi (was he from Iraq?) I don't know if the translation I read on the internet was exactly correct but I think it went something like this

I am the one whose literature can be seen by the blind,
Whose words can be heard even by the deaf.
The steed, the night and desert all know me
As do sword, spear, scripture and pen.

Also I read a little of Ibn Khaldun a while back (because economics hehe) I have to admit I did not fully understand it or the history but I know of him as an influential philosopher. I thought it would be a cool name to use for a !notDune philosopher space wizard faction. Gargaresh (a raider / slave marauder faction) mentioned in my settings is named after some town in Libya where I read a lot of such human trafficking activities have apparently taken place.

You can see some of my worldbuilding tangents in a few of my quests for instance references to the Apportionment (I learnt about this from R Scott Bakker Prince Of Nothing series) but it really comes from Muhasasa Taifia (literally, Sectarian Apportionment) the failed post regime change Iraqi democracy / proportional representation system. The Skycraper tower in the finance plaza of my Golgotha quest alludes to Al Sephina - a star constellation, but also I think in Arabic it means... The Ship ( al safinah ?) which hints at the conspiracy idea suggested in the quest that the skyscraper tower could have indeed been a spaceship intended to escape the cursed city of perpetual night in that game setting hehe.

The joke itself is whatever, if you ask me, but your brand of policing is something I find deeply repugnant. Insert obligatory "wheredoyouthinkweare.jpg". If this sort of stuff rankles you so much, just go and to a more strictly-moderated platform/community/whatever. Not like those are in short supply these days.

>Oh hey, look, the thing I said about this kind of OP encouraging politicial memes and partisan bickering is happening.
Riiiight, that wasn't at all precipitated by the completely organic and totally natural 1PbtID shit-stirring. Yeah, sure, my man.

Completely agree on this point, though. /tg/ is basically a hair short of being /pol/-lite. I don't know about the customs of neutrality and politeness, though. Those two words seem like anathema to this site's very being, but that's a discussion that's 1.) fraught with subjectivity and 2.) not really within the scope of this thread. Either way, culture war brainrot and its spread is unavoidable. Trying to fight it from the middle just results in both sides dogpiling you.

It's not policing or censorship to point out a problem, or voice an opinion about what MIGHT be a problem and propose an informal guideline that might help mitigate, decelerate, or avoid that problem. I'm sorry you find it repugnant, but since we both find the partisan political brainrot to be an issue and dislike what'a happened to the other boards, I suggest that soemthing as light as "not including deliberate references hot button issues or controversial political movements tied to the /pol/ or leftist talking points in the OP of the only general/discussion thread we're allowed to have" seems like a lesser evil to me.

Just my opinion.

Oh it is because I have been playing A LOT of Arena Breakout which is a free crude ripoff clone of hardcore military simulation shooter videogame Escape From Tarkov (ahem Kharkov) except with all the obvious Ukraine war references removed lol; the game atmosphere is a lot more bland as a result but the gameplay is still addictive. I followed and watched Tarkov for a long time even though I never got round to playing it, it is a loot extraction survival shooter, imagine Dark Souls but when you die you lose EVERYTHING all items equipment etc. no cheap Dark Souls or Bloodborne style suicide runs just to reach the item chests etc.

It is just interesting looking at all the weaponry and gear because a lot of it is recreated exactly in both these videogame loadout customisation systems from the armour, the chest rigs, ammunition magazines the AKs etc.

Yeah that sounds interesting to run. Kaiju quests feel hard to retain the drive for when it’s just writing from the POV of some giant wild creature for an extended period. My first quest was a Primal Zerg quest, and I ran out of steam near the end. Did manage to conclude it though, but there’s only so much possible to do with monsters. Making it an EDF situation should be great

the dialogue:
>European "Allies"
Remember the French Revolution? The first one? Okay, there was a second one, and this one went a lot better. All those problems that were revealed when the Eurozone collapse did not go away. Last year there was a unification war for Germany and a civil-war for France. Eurozone people were gone 20 years ago, and now the nationalists/imperialists are gone too. It's all "Traffic Light Coalitions", Germany on the Third Republic, France on it's Sixth... Socialists (Red), Greens, Classical Liberalism (Yellow). Vive la révolution.
>>
>>5648687
You have one weak monster to set the scene in the first thread, ideally. After that you have to space them out according to your own pacing. Though honestly the idea of an EDF Quest is basically just a campy Eva Quest without the esotericism or sexualized high schoolers.
>>
Who are these people and why did they pick now to do this? Are they even different people?

>>
>>5648701
>You do understand a lot of /qst/s in the same setting or style have the same opening right?
What like a Civ template? That thing that everyone hates? This isn't even one of those, you're just reusing an OP because you're lazy and you think you're better than the people who gave you advice, when all of them are actually successful QMs who can string together a legible sentence and don't have to use AI images so they can jerk off while writing their own quests.
>>
>>5648679
EDF sounds good. I tend to lean more into the XCOM aspects than the kaiju aspects but based for sure
>>
>>5648700
I fail to see how posting a discord screenshot would make anyone more aware of my most recent /qst/. For one... I had mentioned it over and over and over, while constantly referring to it. Were you just blind till now? Is that your story?

Is your story that you didn't see 20 something posts referring to a /qst/, along with links over and over to the /qst/ and images referring to it?

Also, you're wrong. Because this is the opening that actually worked and resulted in weeks of play and multiple successful threads. Should I have changed the writing a bit. Sure. Would you have bitched anyways? Obviously.
>>
>>5648687
I’ve only played the one with insects. But I think it just needs to be really campy in order to work. Stereotypical monster archetypes that can be recognized from other media might be better than something wholly original.
>>
>>5648708
>Also, you're wrong. Because this is the opening that actually worked and resulted in weeks of play and multiple successful threads. Should I have changed the writing a bit. Sure. Would you have bitched anyways? Obviously.
If it worked why did you get on your knees and beg to be drowned in hot, sticky advice? If it worked why didn't you write more threads? If it worked why are you doing the exact same thing all over again?

>One day, you purpose the idea of sending a video to taunt your dad. Sarah is worried about retaliation, but you and June assure her that if he ever made this public, your dad would get fired for nepotism and his affair would be made public.

>To make it just a little more infuriating, you remember that your dad really doesn’t like tattoos, so you decide to suggest that they all should have temporary tattoos on them while having sex.

>Around 5am, you DM’d your dad a video.

>The video starts off with Sarah and you greeting your dad while on the bed.

>You say hi while having your hair caressed by her fingers and your head resting on her lap. While both are only wearing long gloves and thigh high socks, careful positioning of a few thin towels have obscured her chest and your crotch.

>As she continues to pamper you, you talk about how dozens of people knew about your dad’s involvement with Sarah and how they wanted to jump him at the shitty old…

Sarah was one of your colleagues at McDonalds a few years back. While you two weren’t on the same shift, you know that she was a high schooler. It’s likely that he only started dating her after June left, which was a few years ago.

You’re fucking a college kid, dad?

Hundreds of thoughts race through your head right now, but you do not text anything in response to that message.

In the large empty room, furthest from the stairs, lies a woman that Sira barely recognizes as Sohm. A naked woman who had her arms and legs tied. She lies on the floor, half awake.

Her hair has been completely shaven off and several burn wounds cover her scalp. Dark purple bruises and crimson red lie across her body, a clear indication of severe bludgeoning. Rust brown scabs cover her thighs and hips, a sign of sustaining several cuts. Large, jagged trails of brick red on her knees and legs are likely caused by her skin being peeled off.

She slowly turns to look at Sira. Her eyes are half open and her eyebrows are furrowed. She is barely awake right now, and the dark spots underneath her eyes clearly show how sleep deprived she is.

{.. ugh. what. Tip was too busy sucking their cocks or something?}

「Food poisoning. I will be the executioner.」

Technically Tip got a stomach ache from eating too much chili, but Sohm doesn’t need to know that.

{….}

Sohm turns to look at Bow.

You voicing your opinion is not something I'm against or find repugnant. As a matter of fact, I agree with the descriptive part of your statement, but the prescription attached to it is what's repugnant to me. polfaggotry is gay and retarded, but rounding off the edges and sanitizing everything is even more gay and retarded. I see it as a slippery slope, which is less of a fallacy at this point and more of a fact of life. To me, it absolutely is not a lesser evil compared to some mildly edgy op art and occasional larping here and there. It's only a culture war shitstorm if someone gets baited and spergs out.
>>
>>5648932
The slippery slope has never been a fallacy. That's just modern bullshittery for you. It has been around conceptually for a while now, maybe you're familiar with the aphorism "Give them and inch and they'll take a mile"? That is just a "recent" example. I'm sure if you dug for proverbs you'd see plenty of similar sentiment far older.

Funny thing is, it applies to both sides of the issue. If you start censoring and pussyfooting around stuff that's "not agreeable in polite society" you'll be invariably going down the reddit path, but if you make /pol/fags feel welcomed, fuck knows how long you've got until your board turns into /pol/-lite and shit in the vein of holohoax quest or something becomes a normal occurrence. The edgy larp is quite funny sometimes, but eventually along come the retards that think it's serious.

It's strange, Bananas and Souv are like two diametrically opposed forces.

Souv is overly polite, talkative, wears influences on his sleeve, whilst straight up ignoring anyone else (even when he spams shit)- will not even respond to you with coheramve- And runs impenetrable, impossible to parse garbage quests nobody can even partipate in. Despite how prolific he is, I don't think anyone can name a single quest of his that actually garnered any attention or has any kind of longevity. At the very least he post pretty art.

Bananas is reserved, overly emotional, prone to trolling and bitch-fits, but accepts criticism and makes fantastic quests that are very simple on the surface and easy to participate in, but are deadly serious and some high level concepts hidden throughout. Any constantly posts shitty art, but it's all drawn by him.

It's like Yin and Yang.

There's a whole huge debate I could make on that, but the ideas all go hand in hand with political chicanery and that's not why I'm here. I just want to shitpost and play quests. >>
>>5649262
There technically isn't anything stopping you from posting every time you've done one, but depending on your posting rate you may want to keep it down to once a day. If you've got a super high posting rate, people won't need a reminder from a completely separate thread, while if you're slow, they might. Also, when it comes to drawing in people from here, people appreciate a drip reminder rather than being bombarded.

Star Wars quest update

We choose to be good with endurance, and now are choosing between focusing on force powers or lightsaber ability.
We are a good guardian in the making.
>>
>>5649288
>>5649288
>Has there been thoughts of having the jedi be a Guardian, Sentinel, ect or the ability to vote on this?
Not really, those titles were made for a, fun, video game. I don't think it really suits a quest personally.
>Wait is that what the most recent question is about?
I guess you could see it that way. It is also what part of being a Jedi speaks to Christopher. Is it the heroics duels and chivalrous nature of the Jedi or the mysteries of the force to unravel? Might not look like it, but it is quite an important vote as it'll change some of your goals.
>>
>>5649302
Uh no, they were made for the largest Star Wars RPG ever sold by book, and they're literally types of jedi that are canon.
>>
>>5649312
Correction, Saga edition came out in 2008ish, KOTOR came out in 2003.

So it was for a video game, but then it was a whole PnP RPG and one of the best selling of all time for Star Wars.
>>
>>5649314
Correction correction, The Star Wars Roleplaying Game started production around 2000.
>>
>>5649312
Ok, i dont do TTRPGs, either way it doesn't matter. I feel quantifying a Jedi in this way is too video game-esque for a quest. Anakin wasn't a Jedi Guardian/Sentinel/Consular, he was a Jedi. Anyway in the fear of shitty up /qtg/ and getting people mad at me, probably best to direct this to the thread.

What makes you think you're better than the advice anyone gave you again?

In case you feel like denying it and lying out your ass again, I luckily have the excerpts right here!
>As Ghostfrog drove away, he tried to remember what even happened, there was just this flurry of; trying to think in the moment and improvise... or was it passion? Foolishness? He was pretty sure that at some point she was riding him, and at some other point he had her bent over her own desk. His heart was still racing, blood flowing through his veins and arteries, and his thoughts made it hard to concentrate. There had just been an incredible trill to it all...and.. he had this general feeling like it was the best sex of his life, or at least the most exciting. As foolish as it was, he felt a few inches taller, and he was proud that he had been one of the few to sleep with her. It did feel like a "feather in his cap".
>>
>>5649322
>Anyway in the fear of shitty up /qtg/ and getting people mad at me, probably best to direct this to the thread
You can answer questions like that in qtg, but if there's a thread up that people are posting in and the question is relevant to the current discussion, it should probably be posted in your quest. Not so that people aren't mad at you, but to increase activity within your quest itself.
>>
>>5649384
I mean, seems reasonable to me that a guy who just banged some sexy dangerous mob boss might feel that way, I guess? It's not especially explicit. I think you'd have to be pretty prude to find this inappropriate for even a "blue board" on this 18+ website.

Can't speak to the dramamongering or feuding with other QMs.
>>
>>5649411
It's just a matter of throwing stones in glass houses and the general quality and hornyness of the writing vs what him and his 1 post (sorry, 2 post) IDs are espousing, and it feels generally pretty horny. Not only that, but it's all from the first thread, which seems rather crude, like yeah, we're on 4chan, but we're also not on akun. Maybe I am a prude, but I feel like, if you're going to have smut in your quest, it should be earned. Otherwise, especially when the QM is describing characters the way prole is here, it just comes off as trashy and horny.
>>
>>5649501
I think a first thread should accurately convey the tone, feel, focus, and maturity of the quest as a whole. If it's a quest that includes sex or violence, it makes perfect sense that Thread 1 should have sex or violence. These thraads last, like, a month of sustained updating. That's long enough to finish several novels or binge many a series. I wouldn't expect a show, movie frnachise, or book series to hold off some arbitrary number of installments before any character was mentioned to have enjoyable sex even in passing.

I don't raad the quest, though. Does it fit the over all tone and content of the quest around it? That, to me, matters most.

I get accused of it a lot, then when people find out its not sometimes people get mad at me, either cause they really wanted their poke lesbians, or because they wanted to be mad at me because of Gobble's pokelesbians.

My quest is different from Fork and Spoon in a few ways. For one im clearly goofier then Fork.

Fork also is new. Its a new region, a new way to see pokemon. It is about the one thing pokemon never answers, which is where the fuck does the food come from?

Mine revists a LOT of things, its in Orre, features the mega corps from gen 7 and 8, and you have literally fought the bad guys from Heart Gold. However it does this in different ways then pokemon does.

Fork is a spinoff of pokemon while mine is a edgy rom version. I even have OC regional pokemon like a Spiritomb cloud that almost kills you.

In fact I think I should run a quest about how women are actually government drones meant to keep men stupid and down so that we don't rise up against our interdimensional alien robot overlords because we are the only timeline in all of existence to have psionic powers capable of banishing the quantum demons that the I.A.R.Os use to power their technology and it would collapse their entire empire and kill the vast majority of them in the process. In the majority of cases, 4chan tends to support First Girl Wins so long as you make sure she gets near-equal screen time to the MC. If you give another character any kind of development while she's offscreen, though, all bets are off. That's how wars start.
>>
>>5649991
>she gets near-equal screen time to the MC
How is something like that even possible? She'd have to orbit the MC.

I always save her whenever I can in Super Robot Wars.

If they're traveling tigether, working together, or even for some reason living together, that will result in a lot of time with her "on-screen".

Establish off the bat they aren't interested in the MC/the MC isn't interested in them. That's what I did with several Martin's characters. Helen was an older sister figure off the bat, Steel Dolly was the MC's teacher, Harmony was the MC's bully.

Basically what >>5650009 says. Just have them play the role of deuteragonist or something and it'll work out naturally.

I actually quite enjoyed Fate/Paradox Reincarnator throughout its run, but that was mostly because I only briefly skimmed the discussions between updates and completely skipped reading them if I ever got the feeling it was about to head into mind-numbing territory. That saved me a lot of braincells.

Setting that aside, a big part of what tanked it was the massive character bloat and ensuing war between the playerbase for who should get more screentime. It was a bit tough to really get invested in any of the characters when it seemed every other update saw a new girl to romance and solve problems for. It's definitely up there among the worst-case scenarios; most stories don't usually get that far before imploding, so it's quite remarkable to see how long the QM managed to endure the constant sniping. 40+ threads is an impressive feat.

>best
Hard to say, really, since admittedly most of the Quests I read are off-site. Relatively recent examples that come to mind are Trust A Goblin (an artquest), Gaul Quest, etc. They set up the female counterpart early and establish a strong personality and goal, though I'm not sure if I'd call the heroine in Gaul Quest a deuteragonist. Those were all romantic interests, though, so I guess they don't meet the initial question's criteria.

In that case... I don't really know how to feel about saying this, considering it's my own work, but Necromancer of Eden Academy somehow ended up popular and the central character dynamic revolved around the master-minion sibling duo. I am *fairly* certain my players there weren't too interested in romancing the sister; they didn't really give off that air, though my perspective might be unfairly biased. There's also only one thread to go off of, so maybe it's just an issue of not enough development/sample size.

Attendant Quest also had a dual-protagonists setup, and I got the feeling that there was more of a fatherly attitude towards the FemMC there than a romantic one.

I think that family members tend to end up being protected and cherished by anons in quests, as long as no incest is introduced.

I cant help but wonder if the DBZ kind of quests are a bit oversaturated at the moment

Yeah, that was bad.
>Trust A Goblin (an artquest), Gaul Quest, etc.
I'll check these out
>Those were all romantic interests, though, so I guess they don't meet the initial question's criteria.
I was asking about quests where anons unwasupported the first girl and there was no waifu war, or quests where the qm fucked up and we had a war. I wanted quests with romantic interests.
>>
>>5650068
Aren't there only 3? And one's Sayain Conqueror, which is... It's own thing. A board staple, undying yet hardly spoken of outside its dedicated playerbase.
>>
>>5650018
The weirdest ive seen i guess is Gobble's pokemon quest. Because it very quickly and dominately establishes who your lesbian girlfriend is. But Gobbles lewded them anyway and then you started having a polycule, but even then it was very obvious who the winner was. There was no "maybe the aura fighter has a shot" she absolutely 100% did not. It was not even close. She just got to be in a threesome.

So there was no waifu wars but it was still coomershit anyway.

>>5649941
Make a dork. Dorks can be cute, but they do not necessarily become sexy.

Matsuno Inc does pretty okay.

The same paranoia which makes people suspect vote-rigging whenever 1post IDs enter a thread (sometimes WARRANTED paranoia) leads him to suspect that the pile-on is precipipated by you. It's also why what's-his-nuts thinks I started the "Nazi-free QTG" because I criticized OP for his 420 waifu.

You strike me as odd, but perhaps too principled and egalitarian to be posting memes about white tourists fucking Thai women/ladyboys, so I'm inclined to believe you.

>>
>>5650291
I find it very suspicious that you think that "start shit, get hit" or "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" is a bad thing, when it's just people getting what is there's. You don't want people to fight you, don't attack people. I'm not surveying someone's misery, this person is antagonistic and possibly even trolling themselves.

Smug implies that a person thinks they're a genius or important or something or at least they are proud. When did I say I achieved anything or that I am proud? I merely said that I am glad that someone I don't like, is getting what is his, and I don't have to do anything.
>>
>>5650294
>very suspicious
Like, you suspect I'm the secret third party, or you think I'm suspicious in some other, perhaps moral sense?

But fine. Maybe smug is the wrong word. After all, your quest got misarchived as well. You're just sort of weird and, at this particular juncture, being a bit of a prick IMO. I personally hope you and Schiz both learn something from this, as far as getting into lengthy and personal conflicts in the general. I also hope you both get your archives fixed.
>>
>>5650298
>Lengthy and personal conflicts.
But I didn't do anything?!?!? Also, I don't care if the thing gets fixed or not. I'm content to do nothing, and keep doing nothing.
>>
>>5650290
I suppose I feel this way because it was one of the first quest I greatly partook in. It seems the QM still does quests but on Sufficient Velocity, his last post being in September of 2022. Guess it just hurts seeing it be abandoned. Oh well, better look up to other quests. Let bygones be bygones and shit like that.

Is it archived so it can be preserved for more people to see? Moe or whatever it's called tends to trigger anti-virus.

For sure. I remember Homeless Mutant and Banished. For all their faults they were fun as hell. Though there are others, too. Once you get that feeling for a half dozen or more it starts to sting a lot less.

Is there any consensus for the best sheet for a fantasy /civ/? I'm aware that generally giving the players no more than 4 options at a time is good... Also, how many stats do you think a race or faction or whatever should have maximum? Like five?

You mean stat sheet or opener? In both cases no. I think it best to hand pick a few of your own factions rather than give a list of 16 race, they can choose something you hate.
>Also, how many stats do you think a race or faction or whatever should have maximum? Like five?
Keep it simple.

25 is the best number to work with.

Just wanted to give a quick update for those waiting for the next thread of the Graverobber's Daughter. My schedule has opened up a little bit, but I still don't have the three-plus hour blocks that I typically need to write updates for the quest, and it doesn't look like I will for another couple of weeks.

However, I do have some time available, and I would like to run something. I could realistically run Space Peon Wrecker Quest with the time that I have now, get a thread up first thing tomorrow ... but doing so would push back the resumption of the Graverobber's Daughter even further, as I wouldn't be able to run two quests concurrently well, I wouldn't be able to run them well, at least.

Any input on this would be appreciated:
> Run Space Peon Wrecker Quest tomorrow
> Run The Graverobber's Daughter in two weeks

Imma say what i said in discord.
It is my experience that people in civs prefer multiciv or intrigue aspects where their little faction can do things in addition to the vote, and that makes Civs something you do on discord mostly.

I like to gradually unlock stats as players develop. You have a logistical track when your nation expands enough to need roads, you have wealth once you start trading, etc.
>>
>>5650368
I had three or four players playing each other on discord once. What you checks out. However, I thought people were skittish about discord?
>>
>>5650371
You sort of already need friends who want to play a civ yeah, fortunately theres a whole community like that.

Unrelated, here is my shill.
Smiling through it all! Kinda worried that now that more of the plots being introduced the weirdness of HMP is giving way to conventional. Which I like normal stories, but that may just make the weirdness of the pitch seem starker.
