Hello there! Welcome to the world of Pokémon! This world is inhabited by creatures called Pokémon! For some people, Pokémon are pets. Others use them for fights. Yourself...You cook Pokémon as a Profession. First, what is your name?

>Penny Pudding

That's right. I remember now! Penny Pudding. A chef who's steadily making her name for herself and her restaurant: 'The Tall Tale', a seafood place located in Lobraise. You're a Water-type expert, who picked up her skills in Grillburg from the legendary fisherman Masao. Your partner Pokémon are a Scyther and newly-caught Joltik, who help cook your signature dishes.

You're just about to wrap up your week of work, then go on a hunt for the next week's dishes. You have a huge expedition to look forward to in a couple weeks, where you'll be reuniting with your sensei to chase down Wailord in the open sea. For now, you'll need to focus on your weekend.

Previous thread: https://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/2023/5589894/

This thread will be far shorter than the others, since I didn't get to wrap up before we hit page 11. I'll also not be updating the character sheets till this one is done, so we can have it all ready at once for next time.

>Pokémon thief narrowly dodges police in chase through Stewview

On Friday afternoon, Saul and Mary Cooper, a Pokémon breeder couple who run a ranch outside of Sauteton, thought they would be enjoying a nice day out in the park, where they could feed the newly liberated Pidove. Instead, they found themselves falling victim to another Pokémon-snatching scam.

"We saw a little Nickit chasing the birds around. Couldn't have that, because they've been getting plenty aggressive, as we all know. They react badly if they think they're being hunted, and we wanted to help." Said Saul.

The couple lured the Nickit over with some food, and began to play with it while looking around for the owner. While they were distracted, however, a second one snuck up being Mary and snatched a Pokéball right from her belt, replacing it with an Oran Berry in the process. The couple only discovered the deception once both fled the scene.

Fortunately for them, a member of the local police force, Constable Greyh, witnessed the theft from a nearby balcony, and immediately deployed his Pokémon to give chase. The chase took the four of them through numerous back alleys, where his Corviknight was unable to follow, and the Nickit unfortunately escaped with the bounty.

"We had a Whimsicott in there, that we were about to take to a contest... I hope they find the thief soon. We raised our girl from a Cottonee, and it was gonna be her big break in the contest scene later this week." Bemoaned Mary, between bouts of tears.

The Police have identified a possible suspect and potential owner of the Nickit, who have been spotted in other nearby towns, such as Lobraise and Simmersand as well. Investigations are ongoing, with hopes of bringing these recurring thieves to justice. In the meantime, citizens are advised to stay vigilant and keep up with anti-theft precautions in the area.

All that Constable Greyh had to say was: "We'll get them," accompanied by a deep sigh.

=====

Seems like Henry and his thieves are still on the loose. This is the second contest participant he's targeted, so maybe there's a pattern there. Robert hasn't gotten back to you on his case, so you assume there's no new developments, and if he comes by, you might want to ask him about it. At least he's far, far away from you, and you don't expect to be attacked and robbed a second time.

You open the back door, where the trucks usually pull up, and find that they're all late. Delayed due to the rain, probably. This downpour is good news for you if you go to the lake tomorrow. Things will be very active. You swiftly close the door, and get a message from James, saying that he'll be late as well. The roads are wet, and he needs to drive slow. Today is going to be bad for business. People will probably want to stay indoors, and not walk out in the rain just to get a meal. At most, they'd take cars to the mall, where everything is indoors. You sigh and stare out of the window, waiting for the headlights to becoming visible in the gloom.

About ten minutes later, the first truck arrives. The truck driver puts on a raincoat before coming out, and then helps you bring the boxes inside. You trail in and out of the docking bay, leaving wet footprints and getting soaked yourself while setting the boxes in the kitchen. It's frigid out, with the roaring wind tossing your hair around. If Joltik was latched on, she'd almost certainly have been blown away by the wind. Even Scyther would struggle to fly.

James' car pulls up soon enough, and he helps to unpack the various styrofoam boxes. There's a shipment of Omanyte today, which you could cook for lunch. The unpacking leaves your work clothes soaked, and you're forced to go upstairs to change before even starting work. James handles things downstairs and starts getting things ready.

True enough, the morning's visitors are few. Even though it's Saturday, most people are kept indoors by the storm. You think of things you could do in the meantime.

>Look into partnering with delivery apps. If you get your place listed, you open yourself up to the annoying world of E-orders and app commission, but using their services means that people can come order your food in circumstances like this, where few customers want to come by.

>Train yourself to cook Flying-types. James can't help much more, unfortunately, apart from giving little tips and bits of guidance. [6/8]

>Talk to Darrell and his family. They're the only regulars here today, the rest are kept away by the storm.

>Research something else? A new menu item, or read one of the other articles. (Write-in choice)

>Close. Give up on the slow day, since it's storming that badly and you're working a half day anyway. Ask James if he's fine with it, and if he is, close early to spend the entire Saturday doing something else.

Not feeling “take-out” and “high-class” are generally associated with each other. We turn into a faceless entity too since people never get to “see” Penny.

Penny is the core of this restaurant, she's done a lot to build up her friends, pokemon, and other aspects of the business, but she's gotta keep herself strong, too
I wonder if it's possible to get two points here, the description makes me think we won't. Maybe if Penny shadow boxes a Ducklett, or shocks her arm with Joltik to better understand an electric-type weakness...

>Talk to Darrell and his family. They're the only regulars here today, the rest are kept away by the storm.

"Pretty empty today, huh?" You remark, as you set their orders down in front of them.

"Mhm. Looks like it'll be a slow day, with the rain and all. It's awful heavy." Darrell replies. All three of them are slightly damp, from running the short distance to the restaurant entrance from their car. Their large umbrellas are sitting in the rack by the door.

"Is this a seasonal thing? I haven't seen it this bad since coming here."

"Yep, this time of year is all dry spells, then huge downpours. We've had worse a while back, but today is pretty heavy."

"Will be good for fishing, at least. I'm heading out tomorrow to go check out the lakes and ponds."

"Ah, heading towards Simmersand?"

You nod, settling down into the fourth chair at their table. Junior is staring at the Inkay Ink Linguine that his mom ordered, with a mix of fascination and disgust.

"Yeah, I'm taking a bit of a longer drive. You been out hunting lately? I don't think we've had a chance to sit down to talk for quite a while now."

"Not since the other day, when we went out to try and snag that Rhydon. Scoured the woods for it, and picked up its trail. You've probably heard by now that the Munroe fella beat us to the punch, right?"

"Uh... Yeah."

"So, we show up where the tracks end. My buddy's Houndour was tracking the scent all the way to this field, where we see the whole place wrecked by attacks. Ground was split open, big rocks everywhere, chunks ripped out of the soil, and a bunch of dead plants. Couple hours-old battle that we missed. Was pretty clear that the Rhydon had been taken out before we reached."

That was the day where you saw the Gym Leader in your restaurant, on his way to go hunt for the creature. If you had done something different back then, maybe Darrell would have successfully hunted it, and you'd have been able to serve it. Something as luxurious as Rhydon would have been a huge boost for your restaurant. It's on its way up North now, though, and far out of reach.

"Real shame. I was hoping I'd get to cook it."

"So, what've you been up to, Penny? I see you've got new help?"

"Yeah. This is James."

James waves from the kitchen.

"Darrell! I heard you came by every once in a while. How's the family?"

"Doing good. We're taking a trip out of town, to see Lisa's mother. Let's catch up soon, huh?"

Your sous chef gives him a thumbs up and returns to his duties in the kitchen.

"Oh, you know each other?" You ask.

"Of course. Wouldn't say we're good friends, but we know each other, at least. Been here long enough. I gotta wring out details of his trip from him."

Right, they're both locals. You spend some more time talking to him, his wife, and his son, just making small talk and asking them about their week. They only have limited time to chat, since they're grabbing food here before going out of town for that visit, like he mentioned. Darrell isn't big into seafood, as you know, so he's just happy that you have that bruschetta on the menu as a nice snack he can eat while his family enjoys their meals. He would have the Ducklett if he could, but it's still before noon, so it's not done yet.

>Ask him about local fishing. You're certain that you can hunt Water-types better than him in general, but he may have tips on the local creatures to share with you. Will make it easier to hunt tomorrow.

>Talk to him about sourcing meat. If he and his friends can get you materials throughout the week, you might be able to make The Hunt's Spoils more of a recurring thing than just Monday and Tuesday. Will also get more acquainted with the local hunting community that way.

>Just catch up with what him and his family, find out what they're doing. No material gain, you'll just become closer to his family and be on better terms. Always a good call to establish connections for the future.

I want to put a friendlier face on the local hunting community. It’s part of what sets us apart from restaurants like Anissa’s beyond the obvious food specialties. We hunt, and not everyone does. It also gives a varied source of pokemon if we do more collabs with other restaurants.

"Where are you three headed to?" You ask, as you offer Junior free ice cream. He eats it happily, already done with his meal. His mother is taking a little longer, to not get Inkay ink splattering anywhere. She pauses to wipe at her lips with a napkin.

"Stewview. My mother and brother live there. We've been meaning to go for quite a while now, but managed to make time today. I've been worried for her."

"Right, yeah... How've they been? Are they safe, with all the stuff going on with Pidove?"

Darrell gets up to go wash his hands, leaving you and his wide there to talk.

"She's the kind to go out and feed them, so I was worried that she'd get caught up in it. But they're not dumb, at least. She told me that they recognize her, and know to not give her any problems or attack her."

"That's good. Has she been taking it badly?" You ask.

"She has, yeah. She used to go to the parks often before all this, but my brother doesn't want her stepping out anymore. She's getting on in years, I don't want her to have a bad fall because some Pokémon swooped her."

"Good thing they outlawed the hunting there. It's not illegal here, but I should probably stop serving Pidove, if it's becoming unpopular."

Lisa nods, taking another large forkful of spaghetti.

"Yes. I just wish the ones that have been infesting the woods would fly off somewhere. Or all the way back home. Darrell told me that they're nesting everywhere in the woods and messing with the Pokémon who already live there."
"Must suck to see the local Pokémon affected like that. Speaking of local, are you from here too? Darrell was born in Lobraise, right?"

She sets down the fork, staring down at the spaghetti regretfully. Getting your teeth and lips stained by black ink is a bad idea when heading out on a long road trip, she's clearly having second thoughts on whether she should have ordered this dish.

"He is. But I'm from Bakehold, actually. All the way up North."

"Oh! I guess your family moved down to Stewview at one point?"

"Yes. I met Darrell there, and that's where we got together. Moved again to Lobraise years ago, but I didn't grow up here like he and Junior did."

"What was it like in Bakehold?"

"Nice. Fancy. It's an old place, with a lot of history. Well, you can say that about a lot of towns, but Bakehold is special. The big castle was always impressive to see, and you could spot it from pretty much anywhere in town, as long as the buildings weren't too tall."

"Have you ever been to Poachold? I've wanted to go visit once, at least."

"Nope. Didn't want to go there. Anywhere past Poachold is a bad place to go to anyway. Boilerside, Mt. Smoke, nothing interesting."

You haven't spoken to her that much before. Usually, you're chatting with Darrell about local hunts and such. Today, though, you have a good chance to talk to his wife about what their family is up to, and catch up with some small talk on Junior's school. When Darrell gets back, he sees the two of you laughing and chatting. With a smile, he sets his hand on his wife's shoulder, then heads over to the counter to go pay.

You watch them leave a little while later, charging through the pouring rain with a huge umbrella. Darrell throws the car door open, and the three of them pile in. You wave as their car pulls away, and they begin their road trip to Stewview.

>Bond with Darrell Household increased!

Lunchtime is a bit more crowded. Some people stop by for lunch, but the rain is still just as intense. The only ones who show up are those who have cars and umbrellas. It's a very slow day, since there aren't any sheltered walkways outside your restaurant. The people who come in end up trailing water everywhere too, which creates a lot more work to clean up. You end up not selling as many Duckletts and Omanyte dishes as you expect, and there's a surplus at the end of the work day. James starts mopping outside, while you work on the kitchen.

"Hey. Mind if I take some of the Ducklett back again? Got a lot spare. Won't want to keep it till Monday, huh?"

"Yeah... This weather is really bad for business. I feel like sleeping in, or taking a nap, but there are still things I want to do today."

"Me too. I think I'll take it home for the family, buy some takeout on the way back too."

Once everything is cleaned up, and the restaurant closes, James heads out. You sit in the restaurant with Scyther and Joltik. It's still raining. Perfect weather for sleeping in, if you weren't a workaholic.

Hopefully the storm abates by tonight, so you can go out to town or something. You have a couple hours to spend the afternoon. Then you’ll go to bed, and wake up bright and early tomorrow. You also have to brief Liam on what he should be bringing tomorrow, but you'll do that later, while you're working on whatever you'll be spending your day doing.

>Spend some time playing with your Pokémon. Joltik and Scyther are part of your team now, you want them to have a strong bond; not just with you, but each other.

While your Joltik has gotten used to being around in the past week, you wouldn't say that she has a strong bond with Scyther. You want to change that. You look around the room and spot one of the toys you got for her when you went shopping last Sunday. Quickly whistling at her to get her attention from across the room, you throw the ball of Wooloo yarn onto the carpet, and she pounces on it happily. Scyther watches from his spot in front of the television. You don't really have toys suitable for him, as he's one of those Pokémon whose natural way of interacting with objects involves destroying them. Letting him outside to chop shrubs and branches is usually the extent of your play, so there's not much for him to do indoors.

You get an idea, though. There's something renewable that Joltik can produce, that Scyther would definitely enjoy slicing apart. While she sits on the ground and enjoys the static building up in the ball of dense wool, you glance around the living room and look for spots where she could plant her webs. You settle on a couple of blank spots on the wall. You hope it doesn't mess up the paint.

"Hey, Joltik?"

"Jol?"

"Use Electroweb! Start setting up a web around the room."

"Joltik! Joltik!"

She obliges, and scurries towards a wall. She spews out an anchoring web, then scurries along the ceiling with the web still trailing out of her spinneret. She then leaps onto the other end of the wall and pulls it taut, before sticking the end to the wall using her hind limbs. There's now a long cord stretching across the room. Scyther watches curiously.

"Okay, go again! Make it stretch across the room. Enough for you to run around on."

"Tik!"

For the next couple minutes, she runs back and forth, establishing a network of silk bridges across the living room. Scyther stands up to watch, getting uneasy with all the obstructions.

"Alright, here's something we can do while it rains. How about the two of you play tag?"

"Scyther?"

"Yeah. You two can both practice different things. Scyther, your goal is to catch her. And Joltik, you gotta use the webs to get away."

"Joltik!"

She seems excited to play the game. Scyther raises both limbs, hissing in anticipation as well. Being cooped up in the rain has bored them both significantly. It's a good enough way to have them learn about each other. When out hunting, you'll want Joltik to run around and avoid hits. Being agile and running around on webs would prevent her from being attacked. Scyther, on the other hand, will need to chase down small creatures and exhibit his usual agility. It'll keep them sharp for tomorrow.

"Just be careful of the TV! Don't damage it!"

Scyther eyes down the little yellow spider, and she starts crawling across her web network to find a nice spot.

"Ready?"

"Scy!"

"You have a minute to catch her, or she wins. Go!"

Joltik begins scurrying across the webs, avoiding Scyther, who's trying to work out a way to catch her without hurting her. He eventually gets the idea to start cutting webs. His scythes descend rapidly, slicing them apart so that joltik has less and less escape routes. She doesn't seem to notice, and is focusing on staying as far away from him as possible. Every time he draws close, she leaps to another web, oblivious to him cutting away the previous one. Before the timer runs out, she's faced with a situation where there's only a single web left: The one she's standing on.

"Joltik!" She exclaims in alarm.

Scyther cuts the web, sending her plummeting down onto his head. She rests there, exhausted from the effort, and the timer beeps a moment later.

"Scyther wins! Good job, the both of you."

You head over to lavish the both of them with gentle pats and a bowl of treats. They seem to be getting along a little better now that they've had time to play and bond. You leave them be and head over to the walls to scrape the sticky parts of the web off, before they solidify and take the paint with them. While you pass by the window, you notice that the rain has weakened. It's enough for you to head out to town now.

You draw the curtains tight as you clean up, blotting out the rain as you gather all the web pieces into a trash bag. You empty out the waste bins lying around the house and swap out the smaller bags you use for them. Afterwards, you leave your two Pokémon to rest on the rug. You head downstairs into the kitchen and put on an apron to get ready for practice. It's late enough for you to start making dinner for all three of you, so you get some of the Ducklett and begin working on it. You wished you had a different Flying-type to work with, like a Pidove or Pidgey. It would help you branch out. You can't go grocery shopping in this weather, though. While you look up recipes and research tips online, you make sure to take some time and text Liam.

>Hey, remember to bring the same things as last week. I want to go a little further out, do you happen to have fishing gear at home?

>No, sorry

>It's ok, don't go out and buy it, I have spares. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat. And boots too. Waterproof sort.

>I have those, yeah. See u tomorrow!

>If it's raining, we probably should cancel though, going fishing in a storm is a bad idea

>Aww, ok.

>But if it's just a light drizzle, and the forecast says it'll clear up, I'll come pick u at home? Otherwise wait at the same place same time as last week.

>Sounds good! Can't wait to go fishing.

>^_^

With that dealt with, you begin cooking, doing your best to capitalize on the Flying-type energy. You got a shipment of Berries this morning, so you start working on ways to pair them together with the meat. The Yache Berries are a strange one to cook with. They're better chilled, and you want to serve warm food. You decide to cook a few different mini-portions of Quinoa to test them out.

As you taste-test a couple different portions, you find yourself gravitating towards the Grepa Berry. It's a Berry that seems to soak up the Flying-type flavour, rather than go with it, like the Wacan jam. However, that means that when you eat the quinoa and meat in one mouthful, the whole thing is imparted with that pleasant flavouring, of both the sweet and tangy Berry, and the savoury richness of the meat. You settle on that one. It'll make a good addition to your dish, and finally make it complete. Afterwards, you probably won't need to alter it further to stand head and shoulders over Sizzlipede's pathetic attempt at competition. All that's left to do is grab a few different Flying-types and experiment with the cooking and butchering of them, to make sure your newly trained skill accounts for all Flying-types, not just Ducklett specifically.

>Flying-type expertise [7/8]!

Phew. You serve up the food to your partners, and they scarf it down eagerly. You also get several portions for tomorrow, and put them in a lunch box. Joltik can provide electricity, assuming you let her charge up before leaving, so you can use her to heat up the food while out in the field, as long as you have an appropriate appliance for it. You've spend the entire day at home again, but it feels peaceful and calm with the rain pouring outside. It begins to abate in the evening, and the torrential downpour slows to a regular shower.

After the dishes are washed, you do a final inspection of your supplies, then clean yourself up and get to bed, eager for a long day of hunting tomorrow.

=====

Luckily for you and Liam, the rain has completely stopped by morning. The streets are soaked, and there are puddles everywhere, but at least there's no more downpour. The skies are grey, and it's cold out, but it doesn't seem like it's going to be thundering anytime soon. You pull yourself out of bed, somewhat wishing you had a day where you could just completely relax, with no duties.

You take the time to make some pancakes. You're not meeting with Liam as early as you usually open the restaurant, so there's time to relax, and you've slept in for slightly longer today. Scyther is up bright and early, and Joltik sleepily clings to your hair until the sound of sizzling bacon wakes her up. She doesn't actually seem as fond of it as Scyther, but the popping sounds cause her to stare at the pan with her bright blue eyes.

You portion out the meal for the three of you, get a text from Liam that he's awake, and then settle down to read the news.

>Rare Pokémon in Boilerside spotted for the first time in years, instantly killed by geyser eruption

Yesterday afternoon, a group of researchers conducting research into seismological activity in Boilerside were treated to a rare sight: A wild Dragonair, that had wandered into the area and was flying through the air. Due to the hot weather and significant volcanic activity in the Boilerside island chain, Pokémon such as Dragonair seldom wander into it, instead preferring the cooler oceans and Southern portion of the region. It's not known at the moment what caused this particular specimen to travel so far North. However, it was the first sighting of its evolutionary line in a long time, with the last one being six years ago when a pod of Dratini cut across a yatch's travel path in Simmersand.

Known to be one of the most beautiful Pokémon native to Wokhei, Dragonair are seen as good omens and bearers of fortune, with their appearance believed to herald fair weather. However, shortly after being spotted, the Dragonair was reported to have panicked and taken off across the volcanic wastes, right where the study group was investigating possible eruption sites. Upon landing on the unstable ground, a geyser activated directly beneath it, bathing the Dragonair in superheated water and toxic gases.

Dr. Doreen, assistant head of the research group, denies any claims that the presence of her group startled the Pokémon into fleeing. However, Sauteton's Gym Leader and Pokémon Ranger, Munroe, happened to be in the area for a Pokémon release, and is currently opening an investigation into the incident.

"I hope we don't find anything. But seeing such a beautiful creature suffer in such a way makes me want to look into it, just to make sure no Foul Play occurred."

=====

Well, damn. Maybe that's why it rained all day yesterday. Tears from the sky, for a dead Pokémon that would have otherwise warded off the terrible weather. You've never gotten to try Dragonair before. In fact, most Dragon-type meat is hard to come by. You've tried some of the more common ones, like Tatsugiri, but not the exotic species.

You wash up your plates and go get changed, making sure you're in appropriate attire for fishing, and for tromping through the woods. You make sure to grab a hat, a folded up poncho, two rods and a net, as well as spare tackle boxes. Once everything is properly accounted for, you head out to your truck, which you haven't driven in a little while.

You pull the tarp off it, and check the truck bed to make sure it's not soaked by the rain. Fortunately, it's dry enough to put all your supplies, including the coolers and boxes that you'd want to put your catches in. Finally, you return Scyther and Joltik to their balls, then head out to town to pick up Liam.

He's waiting for you in a plaza near his house, which is on the way out of town, as before. He's dressed in appropriate wear, with his own equipment sitting next to him. You get out to help him load it into the back, along with all your coolers and rods.

"Morning, boss!"

"Morning! You sound excited to get going."

"Yeah, I want to go fight some Pokémon and train Varoom up. Would also be nice to see how hunting works for real, since we didn't get to last week. Not that I'm complaining! It was fun."

You haven't driven much since last week, so your gas tank is still near full. You decide to stop by the station anyway, so the both of you can grab some snacks for the road. At about 9:30 am, you're ready to start the drive out into the woods.

"You said we were heading out for the lake today, right?"

"That's what I've been doing research on, yeah. So we'll be driving in the opposite direction. I haven't been there before, mostly been hunting on the other end of the town."

"Nice. What are we going to be catching there?"

"I'm interested in trying to cook Barboach. My sensei makes really good ones, and I know a recipe he's passed down from me. There's also Lotad in the area, and some bugs we won't find on the other end of town. Maybe not catching the bugs, though..."

The two of you chat a little bit while you drive, making small talk. The atmosphere is a lot friendlier between the two of you nowadays. However, you remember that summer break ends next week. He'll have to go back to school soon. This might be the last period of time he can spend working here.

>Chat with him about Varoom. Having a friend has been great for him, he probably has a lot to talk about, and you could give him tips on raising it.

>Ask him about his plans for the future. School, his travel plans, whether he intends to stay on somehow, etc.

We didn't get the chance to follow up on it, iirc. We've been busy the whole week, and the way I see it, it's only fair, considering we were integral in catching it.

>Chat with him about Varoom. Having a friend has been great for him, he probably has a lot to talk about, and you could give him tips on raising it.

"Can't believe it's only been a week, feels a lot longer than that. How's raising Varoom been?"

He looks to the Pokéball on his belt.

"Great! I think he was definitely the right Pokémon for me, he really likes taking the long walk to the restaurant. Makes it less of a slog to travel places too, when I have a companion. He'd feel cooped up at home if I didn't go out so often, so it's good that I have a reason to."

"Perfect. Yeah, getting a partner who fits your lifestyle is an important decision. A lot of Pokémon can struggle to adjust if someone's daily routine changes significantly."

You think back to breakfast, and how your two cooking companions scarfed down food.

"I think I might have already asked you this, but I don't remember. Does Varoom need to eat anything special? I know Poison-types can be hard to feed, and Steel-types too."

"Oh, I went to look it up. Apparently, they can subsist fully off rocks and minerals in the places they're located in. They can cling on to these for most of their lives, and extract nutrients from them to turn into fuel."

"So you don't have to feed him?"

"I still do. Supplements and things like that are necessary, and help stop the rocks from being ground down as fast. Which helps, because I wouldn't know how to replenish them if they did. Won't happen for a few years though."

"I see. I assume it's food that Poison-types can synthesize? Or things that are high in minerals?"

"Yeah, how'd you know?"

"Scyther needs food that has a lot of calcium. It's for his shell. One day, he could evolve into a Scizor too, so I've done research before into the kind of trace metals he would need in a diet. But that's about all I looked into, haven't pursued that possibility very far yet."

You drive through muddy roads, making sure to slow down so that it doesn't splash mud everywhere. You don't want it being churned up and getting all over the back of your truck bed. The path is different, and you slow down to read the GPS every so often. You notice that the trees are a little closer together here, and at one point, you see a creek billowing past the side of the road. It runs parallel to it for a little bit, before arcing off into the woods. Probably from the huge rainfall yesterday.

"Have you done much battling with Varoom?"

"Not that much. Just some wild Pokémon around town, but nothing major. I at least know his moves, though. How long have you had Scyther?"

"Couple years, he was with me since the later half of my apprenticeship. You'll get closer to him in time, and learn more about each other."

"I hope so. I can't wait to go out and travel with him. And evolve him."

"Any issues with housing him?"

"He tends to get loud at night, when he wants to go out, so I can't keep him out of the ball."

"Scyther was like that too, at first. He would get really antsy at night and react to every single sound. But he eventually got used to staying out of the ball. I still keep him in it when I want him to really get a good night's sleep, with no possibility of interruptions."

"Yeah... And he rolled over the carpet. He can float, so I don't know why he chooses to skid right on it sometimes."

"Might be wanting to mark his territory? Any issues with the poison gas?"

"It smells bad when he revs up, but we usually do it outside, so it fades away. I've been trying to get him to stop doing it indoors."

The both of you discuss his Pokémon, and you give more care tips as you think of them. Eventually, you reach a part of the road where there's a sign pointing to a campsite. You're a third of the way to Simmersand, and there are probably water bodies out in the woods that you could go visit. You park the car by the roadside while looking at the map.

"Why'd we stop?"

"I want to make a plan for what we're going to hunt. And where."

>Stop by the campsite first, and go see if there are fishermen. Would mean going to more popular spots where people already frequent, so there's bound to be competition, and Pokémon who could be aware of being hunted. There's safety in numbers though.

>Just head out into the woods to find a nice pond, no need to look for others when Liam is already here. You have three Pokémon between you, hopefully that's enough to take on anything.

AND

>Go look for creatures that might be near the water's edge. Recurring species like Greedent may come for a drink, or you could hunt down those Lotad.

>Fishing! Find a pond, cast a rod, and specifically search for Water-types that you can fish up and cook.

>Instead of the water, pursue prey in the trees and woods. The wetter climate might bring new finds.

Leaving another reminder that once the hunt and day concludes, that'll be the end of the half-thread, till I have time to run again. Hoping to finish by Monday, which is when work starts.

>Just head out into the woods to find a nice pond, no need to look for others when Liam is already here. You have three Pokémon between you, hopefully that's enough to take on anything.

You're fine out here in the woods, you don't need to go consult people. There's two of you, and you have a phone that can call for help even in the wilderness, with little possibility of being screwed over by a lack of reception. You drive down a dirt road, that's more mud than anything at this point, with your eyes set on the blue splotch displayed on your GPS.

"I'll look for a dry spot that we can walk across and park the car by."

The first time you left it unattended in the woods, those Pidove shat all over your vehicle. You don't see any around right now, and the few Swellow flying past seem a lot less obnoxious than them. You can trust these ones to not crap on your ride, at least, so you roll your truck onto a gravelly portion of the road, where the wheels won't sink deep into muck. You'll definitely have to wash the whole thing after getting back to town.

You pull the door open and head to the back, where all the equipment is stashed. Liam helps you roll the tarp off. Though it's not raining, the tarp has been drizzled-on by the dripping leaves of the trees high overhead, with plenty of water still slowly wicking off the foliage. You shake it a couple times, then get to work on pulling out the coolers and rods.

"So, we're fishing after all?"

>Fishing! Find a pond, cast a rod, and specifically search for Water-types that you can fish up and cook.

"Yep! I'll teach you how to fish."

The two of you head through the woods, pushing branches aside and hopping over a fallen log to get to the pond. The lingering smell of rain fills the air, and there's plenty of rustling in the trees around you. Every so often, a burst of explosive motion sends droplets scattering down. After a couple of minutes, where you painstakingly balance the coolers with you while Liam holds the rod-cases, you come across the waterfront.

It's a large pond, with a couple of trees extending over it. Tantalizing berries grow over the water's surface at certain points. The water is currently a little murky, due to the recent churning from the rainfall, and the banks are rather high at the moment. You can't judge how deep it would be under normal circumstances. There are spots where one could stand and fish, so you quickly locate a relatively flat area and unroll a tarp. The coolers and your other supplies go onto the canvas, and you spend several minutes examining your surroundings further.

You spot a few shapes poking out of the water, and on the opposite end of the bank, where the rushes are tall, you see a Lombre wading through the water. Several Lotad are floating nearby, and it pushes them out of the way idly. A couple of bubbles rise from the centre of the pond. It's a peaceful scene. Once you start fishing, though, the faster-paced Pokémon will probably begin fleeing, leaving only those who are slow to react, or apathetic to their fellows being hunted.

Liam kneels beside you as you go over the contents of the tackle box, explaining the bobbers and sinkers to him. The rods have been set up with hooks beforehand, and you show him how to bait them. You're using leftover Octillery chunks, since the texture is perfect for sticking to the hook, and it should be able to suffuse flavour into the water.

"Alright, we'll stand a little bit apart so that we don't end up tangling rods. Don't send your Pokémon out first. Let's try and catch a fish before anything."

He nods, and you take your positions. He observes you as you demonstrate how to cast the rod.

"Alright. Pull the guard back, and then place your finger on the line to stop it from drooping. Like that, yeah. Now, do what I do-"

You swing the rod in a wide arc, sending the hook, line, and sinker flying towards the centre of the pond, where you assume it's deepest. It lands with an audible plop, sending a few Lotad swimming away.
Liam follows your lead. His rod doesn't go quite as far, but at least it doesn't go stray, or catch in a tree. Your sensei always had a stupid, lame line he used whenever that happened to you.

>"Fishing for birds?"

Ugh, lame, but you miss him. You nod in approval to Liam, and he stares at the spot where his rod is sitting.

"... What now?"

"Huh?"

"What's the next step in fishing?"

He looks expectant, as though awaiting some major revelation.

"We just wait. It takes time for Pokémon to bite, and it's not like we can do much until they do."

The smile on his face wavers a little.

"... Oh. I thought it would be... a little more than that."

"Just have a little patience, trust me. It can get hot out here, that's why we have the hats."

He nods, and his attention turns back to the water.

You stare out over the placid surface of the pond. The scattered Pokémon have returned, and a couple are watching you warily, observing what you’re doing with the rods. However, they’re not your targets today. The creatures you want to catch are beneath the surface, oblivious to their impending doom.

"Penny! I feel something!"

You look over to Liam, just as his rod whips downwards. He's not mentally prepared to fight the fish on the other end, so it nearly flies out of his hands.

"Pull! Liam, whip your rod upwards, grab the handle tight."

You start winding yours back, intent on getting your rod out of the water so that you can go help him. However, the burst of movement from you rapidly reeling it back causes a Pokémon to bite. You'd normally welcome it, but it's bad timing that renders you unable to go give him a hand.

"Shit, I've got a bite too... Okay! Liam, you're going to have to fight it. Are you listening?"

"What, like, with Varoom?"

"No! By yourself. Just-"

Your rod bends downwards. You quickly stop reeling, instead keeping it still so the creature tires itself out.

"Don't let it move. When it's pulling, keep your rod still, and when you feel it go slack, or become weaker, start reeling on your own."

His eyes light up, like the first time you sailed out onto the open ocean with your soon-to-be sensei. You smile softly, watching him begin to challenge the fish Pokémon to a battle of physical prowess. There it is. That's what you were hoping for. He seemed so disappointed when he realized how much waiting there was in the process, but now that he's faced with the Pokémon, he can see first-hand what a challenge it is.

You turn your attention to your own opponent, and follow your advice on reeling.

A tough battle ensues, where the both of you struggle to pull your catches up to the surface. Liam exclaims in surprise as the Magikarp breaches the surface. It's an extremely heavy fish, and he's done well to pull it up to the top of the water by shortening the line, but he can't seem to pull it all the way out of the water. Supporting ten kilograms on the end of a rod is a challenge for anyone. Your own bite turns out to be a Barboach! Perfect, you know just how to cook it. You quickly pull it onto land, then send out your Pokémon to deal with it.

"Scyther! Take it down!"

"SCY!"

In a flash of red light, Scyther emerges from the ball. He knows exactly what to do, after repeated practice, and his first move is to slash the line apart, freeing Barboach from your hands. He then keeps it occupied as it flops around by the mud, trying to slip back into the water. You head to Liam's side and take hold of the rod.

"Keep it pointed down, towards the water, then drag it across the mud. Just walk backwards, don't whip the rod around."

He follows your orders and manages to get the Magikarp out onto the mud, where it immediately uses Splash. You're both splattered with mud, and Liam spits a clod of it out of his mouth.

"Okay, send your Varoom out! And uh... try not to use Poison-type moves, please."

You approach the Magikarp with your knife, and quickly take hold of the line. Once Varoom is there on the ground, you cut the line, leaving the hook in the Magikarp's lips.

The next few minutes are tense, and your Pokémon take a little while to dispatch the fish. There are very few Water-types who a human can completely manhandle and cook for dinner. Even ones like Magikarp can thrash and hurt people by accident, and it's a common occurrence for Pokémon to burst out of the water and accidentally collide with people on boats. However, the main focus is on the fishing, and not on the battling, so you leave your partners to handle it while you reset the rods. You tie a new hook to it to replace the one that's currently within the Barboach's mouth.

The opposing Barboach has been slain...

Ah, Scyther is done. He steps back from the fish, who has been decapitated cleanly. You quickly head over to pick it up, as it bleeds into the mud. It's a pretty dirty place for a fish to be, and now the meat is exposed, so you'll have to clean this one really thoroughly. You watch Liam hard at work, ordering Varoom around.

The opposing Magikarp used Splash!

"Varoom, use assurance!"

Varoom used Assurance!
The opposing Magikarp has been slain...

"YES!"

He pumps his fist in the air. It's his first successful battle (against a Magikarp, but you don't rain on his parade) and first successful fishing catch. Liam stares at the Magikarp, whose head looks like its been run over by a car. You wince at the poor state of both pieces of food, and quickly pile them into the cooler.

"Good job! Okay, let's take a break. You did good."

Liam trots over to the tarp, and the two of you settle down to rest.

The early afternoon blows by in a flash. Liam picks up on fishing pretty quickly, and is enthusiastic about the battle element. You warn him about the possibility of coming across a Barboach on the end of his line, which could wipe his Varoom out with Ground-type attacks. You can't even send Joltik to help, since it's immune to Electricity, so Scyther has to do a lot of the heavy lifting. Despite him making a bit of a mess whenever he puts them down, you can't actually see a way for him to euthanize them cleanly.

The sun gets hotter and hotter, and by the edge of the lake, it's awfully humid. You're sweating by mid-afternoon, and take a break to count your catch.

Hunt Tally
>1x High grade Barboach meat
>2x Mid grade Barboach meat
>1x Mid grade Magikarp meat
>2x Low grade Magikarp meat

"Coolers are pretty full. Should we take them back to the truck?"

You nod and grip the handles. At some point, you've decided to have all your partners just stay out of their balls and wait. Joltik is seeking shelter under your hat, as a secret weapon, and Varoom is eyeing Scyther warily. As you pack up, you consider what you want to do now. You're running out of space and time, so you can only squeeze in a little bit more before heading home. However, going back now will mean that there's no risk of the meat spoiling.

You load the harvest into the truck. Each Pokémon is pretty large and heavy, so there's already a ton of meat to be had. They can be split among multiple dining parties. The coolers won't help them last forever, so hopefully you guys can be fast. You want to go back to the lake and catch a few more things to fill up the empty coolers.

"That was fun! I can't believe that last one didn't get away. It was so slippery."

"Yeah, did Varoom get any stronger from that?"

He checks the app on his phone that's synced up to the Pokéball.

"He did. Sorry about messing up that one Magikarp, though..."

"It's fine. Your Pokémon isn't trained to help hunt or chop meat, like Scyther is. He's already doing well, all things considere."

You both return to the water's edge and set the tarp back up. The hot sun beats down at your head, and you wipe sweat from your face with your sleeve. While Liam sips on a sports drink, you watch the Surskit drift across the surface of the pond, daintily crossing the water like tiny dancers in the breeze. One is abruptly grabbed by something, however, and dragged beneath the surface.

"... Did you see that?"

Liam slowly reels his rod back.

"Yeah. What do you think that was?"

"Guidebook said there were Dewpider here. They fight Surskit often, so maybe it's below the surface."

Before you can withdraw your rod, however, the culprit bursts out from beneath the water.

Now that you've returned to fish, you've had a chance to come across it. It's a creature that hasn't been recorded in this area before, though it's not something outlandish, so maybe it recently evolved or came from somewhere else. The Araquanid turns to face you both, and you freeze up. For a moment, it seems like it might just sink back beneath the ripples. Then it rears up and parts its mandibles, sending a stream of air bubbles through the large blob on its head.

The large bug hisses at the two intruders to its territory. It begins skittering across the surface of the water, and you drop your rod to clutch your Pokéball instead. The Araquanid is coming right at you two, and there's little time to decide on what to do.

>Run. Liam has his rod, but you don't have time to wind it back. You'll lose a rod, but you'll avoid a potentially tough fight, and any chance of injury to you two and your partners.

araquanid bisque

begin by straining the drained liquid from the bubbles, both the primary near the head and secondary limb bubbles. if using wild-caught araquanid, any prey stored inside should be discarded unless in perfect condition. if you are confident in its suitability for human consumption then you may include it in the final product, as appropriate to the exact prey your araquanid has recently caught.

crack at the joints to separate the araquanid's legs and body. reserve the body and head for later, as the webbing fluid coagulates immediately on contact with the air and premature opening of the entrails can ruin the remainder of the carcass.

poach the legs in the bubble fluid in the manner of crawdaunt or clauncher tails. when the chitin changes color, remove them from heat and carefully squeeze the meat out with a rolling pin. reserve. return the shells to the pot and boil more vigorously until maximum flavor extraction is attained. strain, and keep the broth warm in a bain marie while you attend to the body.

place the body belly down. carefully cut in half lengthwise, ending your cut near the spinneret. immediately remove the silk glands intact. submerge them immediately in your broth before piercing. quickly stir to completely incorporate the protein. keep the bain marie gentle and stir often as you continue to work, as for lemon curd or avgolemono. when it has thickened, cover with plastic wrap and minimize air contact to prevent further thickening. remove the eyes and other remaining organs, as they are bitter, gritty, or otherwise poor.

in another pot, heat butter and aromatics, such as carrot, celery, garlic, onion, and fresh herbs. add tomato paste and fry off until fragrant and the oil changes color. fry off the head and body, again until fragrant. deglaze with white wine. cook until liquid has reduced by half. stir in heavy cream. remove and discard head and body. blend while hot until completely smooth, and strain. warm the leg meat in your bisque. carefully combine the contents of both pots, and serve immediately.

though I might be getting ahead of myself lol we might lose the fight

You send your own bug out to halt it in its tracks before it tries to drown you and Liam. While Scyther and the Araquanid stare each other down, you retrieve your rods and grab the casings that they come in. No time to fold everything properly, you just stick the rods and the wet hooks in them. You'll give them a proper wipe later. Liam does the same, and the both of you back away from the water's edge, where the enemy is about to attack.

Despite the level difference, Scyther is very fast. You start out by ordering him to go on the defensive.

"Scyther, Double Team!"

Scyther used Double Team!
Scyther's evasiveness rose!

The opposing Araquanid used Bubble Beam!

However, the bubbles that spew from the spider's mouth manage to track the real Scyther, even as he moves rapidly between spots to create afterimages. It got lucky.

The bubbles strike Scyther. They don't pop like normal bubbles, though. Instead, they cling to him like foam, gumming up his wings and building up on his exoskeleton.

Scyther's Speed fell!

Scyther immediately sags, weakened from the barrage. He's always been better at tolerating Special attacks, and manages to remain standing despite the powerful stream striking him. That one hit has almost fainted him, though, and you step forward to spray a Hyper Potion over his wounds. Liam watches nervously. You can't take two Bubble Beams in a row.

"Crap... Scyther, get in close when you can!"

He shakes off the pain and storms closer to the Araquanid, putting himself within range of its mandibles. It's ready for him, and attacks immediately. As expected, it doesn't use Bubble Beam when the army of Scythers are right in its face. Instead, it lashes out with its maw.

The opposing Araquanid used Headbutt!

He's injured, but he's not as badly hurt as when he was hit with the water.

"Alright! Again!

Scyther used Double Team!
Scyther's evasiveness rose!

Its headbutt packs way less of a punch than the bubble spray. It won't keep getting lucky now that it's starting to lose track of Scyther, but the battle is at a stalemate for now. You can't risk attacking it blindly, if it gets a good hit on Scyther, it could take him out in one blow. When you run out of resources like Potions and spare Pokémon, you're in trouble. You have to pick a battle tactic and stick to it. There are right and wrong answers here, surely. Now that you've seen how hard it hits, you can make a plan using that extra info.

>Have Scyther continue to use Double Team until the move is at its limit, then attack while it's constantly missing. Risky and luck based. A battle of attrition. This is how you handle hunts, when he's up against multiple opponents. It might pay off here.

>Send Joltik out instead. Withdrawing Scyther now means losing the evasion boost from Double Team, but you can introduce a type advantage into it. The flaw in this plan is that Joltik is far frailer than Scyther.

>Try to drive it off instead of committing to beating it. If you decide to send out every Pokémon you have, it's likely to get overwhelmed and retreat. Facing three enemies at once will get it to think twice. However, this means that you'll sacrifice hunting it, and there's a chance that it could injure one of the three Pokémon you have access to before it runs.

Back. So far, I've only used dice for shinies, and that was solely for fun. I don't intend to make hefty mechanics or keep track of them either. However, since this plan is specifically about hoping to just get lucky, I'll be rolling crit chances...

Have Scyther continue to use Double Team until the move is at its limit, then attack while it's constantly missing. Risky and luck based. A battle of attrition. This is how you handle hunts, when he's up against multiple opponents. It might pay off here.

The opposing Araquanid used Bubble Beam!
Scyther avoided the attack!

While the Araquanid is busy attempting to blast the duplicates, you order Scyther to keep it up. Every other Pokémon in the area is either fleeing or diving beneath the water. The Scyther army that seems to be invading the pond is driving them all away. Scyther, meanwhile, flies faster and faster, using his special technique of leaving afterimages behind.

Scyther used Double Team!
Scyther's evasiveness rose!

The opposing Araquanid used Bubble Beam!

Hissing in anger, it continues blasting at the illusionary Scythers, trying to drive them away from its pond. Unfortunately, it lucks out again and sends another Bubble Beam right at your partner, sending him crashing down. As a wild Pokémon, it doesn't recognize that the real Scyther has fallen to the ground, instead of vanishing like the duplicates do when attacked. It gives him time to crawl over to you for medical aid again.

The opposing Araquanid used Bug Bite!
Scyther avoided the attack!

Another duplicate is taken down, but the fully-healed Scyther has plenty more well that came from.

Scyther used Double Team!
Scyther's evasiveness rose!

Well, not that much more. You're running low on Potions. Liam grabs his ball, contemplating sending his own partner out to help, but you hold a hand out to stop him.

"What are you doing?"

"If... If I send out Varoom, he can fight too, right?"

"Two on one might become messy. Right now, it doesn't see us as threats. Just Scyther. Most Pokémon will react badly to being outnumbered, while they have the confidence to fight on their own."

"Right. Do you think Varoom could take it?"

"He's Steel-type, so that makes him pretty strong defensively. But you've barely battled with him, don't risk it."

He nods, letting you get back to the fight at hand.

The opposing Araquanid used Bug Bite!

It scores another blow on your partner, but the duplicates are becoming more and more numerous to keep track of. Scyther is keeping his real self close, so that it's more likely that a bite or headbutt will hit him than a deadly Bubble Beam.

Scyther used Double Team!
Scyther's evasiveness rose!

Okay. You can squeeze out a little bit more, but it's about time to start attacking.

Scyther used Wing Attack!

The duplicates all close in at once, startling the Araquanid and sending it scrabbling backwards. Scyther is still faster than it, and blitzes past the water's surface, sending droplets flying out of its bubble and creating a wake on the pond's surface. Your Bug-type opponent is clipped by his wing on the way past, and staggers back. It blows air into the watery orb around its head, causing part of it to split off.

The opposing Araquanid used Aqua Ring!

Now that its taken a hit for the first time, it's trying to heal itself. However, Scyther doesn't let up the assault. He goes in for a second run, this time slashing a claw across the sides of its thin legs.

Scyther used Wing Attack!

It doesn't seem willing to abandon the pond, and that's probably going to be its undoing. Fortunately, you've been lucky enough to not have Scyther hit in just the wrong spot to wipe him out in a single hit. The duplicates are going to keep it busy, unless you're extremely unlucky in the next few minutes. A couple more barrages from Scyther might take it down. No need to send Joltik out to try and paralyze it, or Varoom to poison it. Joltik would have been too slow and frail anyway, so it's a good thing you didn't resort to that.

What do you intend to do with it, now that it can barely hit Scyther, and is being worn down?

>Knock it out. If you just beat it in a straight out battle, Scyther will grow stronger than if you turned it into a proper slaughter. You've been sticking to the traditional rules of battling so far, instead of having to do that guerilla bullshit you usually use on small game, so it's good experience for him. That means you'll just let it go.

>Kill it. Have him try and execute it, or kill it yourself after defeating it, so you can take the ingredients home for cooking. Gets rid of one Araquanid in the woods, and gives you something to serve.

>Capture it. You're very unsure of your ability to take care of a third partner. Joltik is already tough, your housing situation just doesn't make it a good idea. So you won't be keeping it. However, you could possibly pass it to someone, sell it off, trade with an enthusiast, having a live Araquanid in your hands isn't the worst result from a hunt.

Battle XP, feels bad form to murder it after a straight battle instead of a hunt. A pokemon's gotta have a code.

Scyther zips around, continuing to attack the creature. You decide that you'll be satisfied enough just letting Scyther hone his battle skills through this straight fight. The Araquanid is stronger than him, but thanks to your training, he's able to hold his own.

The opposing Araquanid used Bubble Beam!

Until he gets struck by another one of those powerful blasts head-on. He tumbles into the mud, and the duplicates vanish for a moment, before he gets back up to start recreating them all with his rapid movements. The Araquanid is gradually healing itself, but Scyther's blades and wings are sharp enough to overcome it with just another strike.

Scyther used Wing Attack!

One more good hit should take it down. After slashing it with his wings yet again, he gets in close, causing it to snap at him once again. It chomps down on his afterimage, and its mandibles sink down on empty air. Most of the water around its head has dripped off, and it's looking very weak.

The opposing Araquanid used Bug Bite!
Scyther avoided the attack!

There it is. That's your shot to take down the wild Pokémon. You yell for Scyther to strike the final blow, and you both cry out as one. He dashes forward, blades crossed to guard his head, as he attempts to slash the Araquanid once more with his wings.

"SCYTHER! WING ATTACK!"

"SCYYYYY!"

Scyther used Wing Attack!
The wild Araquanid fainted!

"Yes!"

"You did it!" Liam cheers.

Scyther grew to Lv. 21!
Scyther grew to Lv. 22!

Scyther throws his head back and roars in victory, and you return your battered companion to his ball before he has any funny ideas about ripping his downed opponent apart. The Araquanid droops by the edge of the water, and the bubble bursts as its head hits the mud. Liam stares at it, wary of getting any closer to the predator.

"Do we just leave it like that?" He asks, gripping his own ball tightly.

"Yeah. It's knocked out. It'll wake up in a couple hours and slink back into the pond. Scyther got a lot stronger from fighting it, since it was quite a bit above his level."

Liam pulls his phone out to scan the Araquanid, and his eyes widen.

"25. That's so much higher than Varoom."

"Joltik too. I was considering trying to send her out to use Thunder Wave, but one hit would have knocked her out anyway. Good thing Scyther took care of that."

"Yeah... Well, that's all we came here for, right? No more time for fishing?"

You nod. You want to get home and clean everything up before keeping it in storage for tomorrow. You can't burn any more daylight if you want to get back on time, especially since this place is further from home than the other half of the woods. The two of you return to the vehicle, and once everything is properly packed in, you start the long drive home...

Final Hunt Tally

You make it back to town, and drop Liam off at his place. The both of you are exhausted and covered in dirt, and you feel a pang of jealousy that he can get right to showering and sleeping. You pass him the envelope with his bonus wages for coming to help out, and say goodbye to him and Varoom, who he releases from the ball the moment he gets to the doorstep.

>Bond with Clerk Liam increased!

After you say your goodbyes, you head on home and begin the long process of carrying the coolers indoors. You pile them into the kitchen and start going through the carcasses, wrinkling your nose as you behold one of the Magikarps that Varoom ran over. In the time its spent in the cooler, squashed organs have spilt out into the ice water, turning it a putrid shade of slushie-pink. A foul smell is coming from it too. That one is definitely unusable now, so you sigh and dump it in a bag, before pouring the contents of the cooler into the huge basin you use for fish cleaning. You set the chopping board on top of it and get to work.

>Scyther: Tier 2

Having him in the kitchen with you speeds it up significantly. He guts the two Magikarp with ease, while you work on the Barboach. Better to let him take the larger fish, and have less risk of messing it up. You gut everything properly and dump the unusable organs into the trash. Magikarp are extremely bony, with barely any edible flesh. However, what makes them usable in the culinary industry is their bones. All the 'jelly' within its body is delicious, packed with the salty flavour of the sea. You're not sure if ones from a freshwater pond will be as flavourful, but it's worth making some kind of soup out of it, at least.

But that's a plan for tomorrow. You store the fish Pokémon once the organs have been removed, clean your kitchen up, and head upstairs to unwind. The first thing you do is clean Scyther up. You sanitized and wiped down his claws earlier, so he could help with cooking, but he's still pretty dirty. Then you kick him out of the shower and take your own bath, dumping the dirty clothes into a separate bag to be taken to the laundry later on.

Once you're all cleaned up, you sit down on your couch and turn the TV on, resting with your two Pokémon for a little bit. There's just one more thing you have the energy for.
>Make a meal for the three of you and celebrate your victory. You beat a powerful Pokémon and brought home a bounty of fish. Keep your partners in a good mood for tomorrow.

>The grind never stops. Go train yourself in Flying-type cuisine, and see if you can get that final piece of the puzzle. [7/8]

>Call somebody, just to talk. Spend the evening just chatting to someone and hearing their voice.

>Anything else? (Write-in)

You wake up from a short nap, and after pouring yourself a glass of water, you take a look around the kitchenette. You have a Pidgeotto in the freezer that you bought on the way back home. You were thinking of cooking it up as practice, and spending the evening picking apart every aspect of a Flying-type meal to familiarize yourself. However, when you tried to get up, you realized how tired and mentally drained you were. You might have slept till sunset if Scyther and Joltik didn't knock a bunch of books off a shelf and wake you.

Donning your work apron, you take the bird out of the freezer and crack your knuckles. You'll still be cooking it, but not while trying to focus on learning and internalizing it. Nah, you'll just make a nice roast that the three of you can share, to reward everyone for their hard work today. Scyther did well in hunting, you drove all the way out there and reeled in a whole bunch of fish, and Joltik... Well, she didn't do that much. You realize way too late that you could have had her make fishing line or something, and resolve to do that in preparation for next week. Still, she's part of the team, and she gets to share the reward all the same.

You feel like you're missing someone, though. As you take the bird downstairs, to use the larger oven, it hits you.

"Oh, shit. Liam."

You send him a quick text to invite him over for dinner. He worked hard today, so it's only right you invite him for the celebratory feast. Once that's done, you lay the Pokémon on a massive plate. The first step is to make a garlic butter mix, which you spread under the skin. The meat is a darker shade of pink, due to it being a middle-stage Pokémon. Once that's done, you fill the roasting pan with onion, garlic, and some berries for flavour. The ones that you know go well with Flying-types are added to the mix. You have plenty due to your studies. Then you pour the broth into the pan, lather the exterior with the herbal butter mix, and place sprigs of rosemary and Nomel slices inside it for fragrance.

Smolliv oil, Nacl and pepper, Simisage trimmings, and a little bit of white wine finishes off the meal. You tie the drumsticks together and tuck the wing-tips beneath the meat, then transfer it into the pre-heated oven. You set several timers to call for your attention when needed, then head into the living room to spend more time with your friends.

Joltik and Scyther are trying to set up the same game you played yesterday. She runs along the webs with ease, while Scyther does his best to avoid furniture. You watch them enjoy themselves, and laugh heartily at their antics. A few short videos are taken for your friends to see, and you consider posting it on The Tall Tale's page, but decide not to show anyone your upstairs layout. You sit there quietly, reflecting on your time here in Lobraise.

You started your journey here because of the low rent, but right now, you're somebody who has a decent amount of respect from the residents. Likewise, the place is already feeling like home, and you've been too busy to even miss your old place. In just a couple weeks, your Slowpoke-themed restaurant has gained a reputation for high-quality seafood that fits the tastes of most people here, due to not being overly exotic. That doesn't include the occasional specials that draw in curious diners, or those with more experienced palates.

There are a good amount of people in town you can count on too, and call friends. Your employees, firstly. All three of them are great. You're saddened that you'll have to say goodbye to some soon, but working with them has left a lasting impact on you and the restaurant. Then there's local families, your friendly exorcist pal (who you might want to see soon, since you've started hearing mysterious splashes from the pipes after the fishing trip), and you've even become acquainted with a Gym leader!

You clean up the dining table upstairs, lay down a nice cloth, and finish propping up a wobbly chair leg, right as the timer rings for the first time. You attend to the Pidgeotto for a while, before setting the oven again for a lengthy roast.

=====

By the time you're done with the meat, Scyther and Joltik are both peckish. You give them firm orders to not rip into the Pokémon just yet, then painstakingly pull it out of the oven and take it up the stairs. It's a hefty meal, and you've made some side dishes in the meantime, like roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, gravy, and leftover quinoa. It takes you a little while to get everything set up, and you behold the beautiful spread. Might be too high effort to serve, but you'll definitely be taking picture of that to post later.

You sigh in satisfaction, sitting down at the head of the table for a breather. Tomorrow is a new day of work, and you'll have to get right back to it. For now, though, you're in good company, enjoying a good meal to celebrate a month's worth of efforts. A one month anniversary isn't a very huge milestone, but to you, it feels like the most important thing in the world right now.

You've barely had five minutes to rest before you receive a text from Liam, letting you know he's downstairs. Giving Scyther one more stern look, you pull yourself out of your seat and head for the door, your mouth watering at the prospect of getting started on the meal.

Thank you guys so much for participating! Got it done right on time, since I'm starting that job tomorrow. Been a joy having you guys. Hopefully I can get a schedule that lets me keep working on it soon. As mentioned in earlier threads, the next time we pick up in thread 4, there'll be a short timeskip to that Wailord expedition that's happening at the end of the in-universe month. I'll also detail some things that would've happened since, taking into account past choices and routes that Penny has been on.

Also, if you guys have questions about things that happened earlier, I'll try and answer them if they've been missed for good, or won't be huge spoilers even if they show up again in the future.

Thanks once again, you guys have been really great. I'm glad I got to write so much about food, and share my autism with you guys. Was really glad when that one anon told me that he went out to try jellyfish because of the quest, so I hope you guys get to eat stuff like sushi and wacky sea cucumbers sometime too.
