It is the year 0076 of the Universal Century. A half century has passed since the earth began moving its burgeoning population into gigantic orbiting space colonies. A new home for mankind, where people are born and raised… and die.“We are the people of the universe. We have struggled to survive in a harsh environment, and new generations of colonists testify to our success. Now, when we gaze back at Earth, we see a sacred blue and green orb- the cradle of civilization and a sacred home that we must eternally preserve and protect . . .”-Zeon Zum Deikun, UC 0058—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------10:45, 12th January UC 0076Zeonic Corporation New Factory A, Side Three (Republic of Zeon)The thrumming and clanking of machinery sounds all about you, and a faint smell of oil and ozone hangs in the air. The reinforced titanium interior of Zeonic’s new factory is vast, dark green and gray bombproof walls surrounding line after line of robotic machine tools and partially assembled mobile suits. The production lines stretch far off into the distance, disappearing into the factory’s cavernous and deep interior. It’s a recent expansion of Zeonic’s production facilities, and it shows. Nearly everything is gleaming and new, paint jobs in pristine condition and little sign of wear or use yet on the factory floor. You smile, glad to see that the factory is in such excellent condition - The mass production of the Zaku is finally beginning, and with a few of Vivima’s recommendations integrated as well if the engineers guiding you through the facility are to be believed. You relax a little in your wheelchair as it is pushed along, the gunshot wound to your leg is still not fully healed enough to allow for extended periods of walking. It’s a guard pushing you today, Mink is back at Zum still. Nearby Vivima and Casval are in wheelchairs of their own - It would be a funny sight if it weren’t so depressing, you all really got shot to hell fighting off the assassins a few weeks ago. Viv nearly died from the blood loss, but she bounced back quickly. Cas has fared about the same. They’re both past the worst of it and finding plenty of energy to speak, and Viv has been putting the Zeonic staff who were scrambled out to greet you through their paces. Surprise inspections are fun.The bald headed man guiding you through the factory speaks quickly, fidgeting a bit with a clipboard and obviously nervous, “The engineering teams working on the next generation of Zaku were thrilled by the challenge of your plan, Lady Vivima. Y-you can see that some changes have already been made to current Zaku production. Look over there at the eye sensors on line two.” “That fast?” Dozle rumbles curiously before Vivima can respond, absolutely dwarfing the short bald engineer as he walks beside him, “Oh ho ho. Excellent.”
>>5616811Dozle was shot more times than the rest of you combined, but between his vest, immense physical stature, and sheer luck he managed to come out of the ordeal able to walk ‘comfortably’ after less than two weeks of recovery. His marriage to your mother was completed in a very quick and private ceremony while he was still recovering in the hospital; it was never going to be a grand state affair, but the entire thing came and went in the blink of an eye… you’re a Zabi now, sort of. It is a deeply uncomfortable state of affairs, but one you're learning to live with regardless.“I agree, it truly is excellent.” Vivima replies with nearly a purr, her voice sweet and clear, and carrying easily even among the sounds of machinery all about you. Enormous sections of mobile suits slowly trundle down the lines as they’re being assembled, bright flashes of welding torches faintly visible off in the far distance, “Is it the sensors themselves or the ports for them which have been standardized?” “The ports. The sensors are expected to be upgraded and replaced, but all of our new designs will use the same port system for them.” The bald engineer answers after a moment of thoughtful hesitation.“Good.” Vivima I expect the rest of the redesign plan is underway then?” “Yes, Lady Vivima.” The man answer at once, pointing to a long line of half assembled green Zaku arms, each nearly as large some of the biggest conventional vehicles currently in Federation service outside of land battleships and other super-heavies, “The printing files have already been adjusted and the test batch hasn’t shown any issues as of yet. Full compliance will-”“Take more time, of course. Things seem to be on schedule, I’m very pleased.” Vivima finishes the sentence for him and nods slightly, her violet eyes wide as she watches the manufacturing process in a nearly mesmerized trance. It feels good to see her this happy again, she’s been positively miserable the last few weeks in the hospital.“Do they only come in green?” Your brother asks, and the engineer shakes his head.“Our lines can be adjusted to apply finishes in many other colors, these shades of green were specified for this batch but we were producing tan ones just yesterday.”“Could a red one be made?” Casval questions further, a glint in his blue eyes as he too watches the great war machine slowly being pieced together.“Yes. It could be, my lord.”The titles are going to take some getting used to, it still makes your skin crawl sometimes. This isn’t what father would have wanted… but you are essentially royalty, even if the titles haven’t gone quite that far yet. >”How about blue and grey?” >”Is this the only factory producing Zakus currently? >>5616812>”How about blue and grey?”Colors!
We're SO back bros
>>5616812>>”How about blue and grey?”Fuck yeah custom colors. I've imagined Felix's blue grey color scheme to be like pic related which is what I'm painting my gunpla. Just got to wait for the paint to cure now before I can do the gold trims. I'll also back >>5616843 's write-in for the mental note as well.
>>5616812Let's go bros!>"How about blue and grey?”>Make a mental note to do what your father would've wanted and get rid of any noble titles when you come into power.I'm supporting this thinking too. Seems like something in character to think about.
>>5616858Adding the mental note to all my votes
>>5616812>”How about blue and grey?”Early start, hell yeah.
And here's a side by side of two gray-blue Zaku color permutations to celebrate the new thread.
>>5616877The gold accents are good, though they seem a bit too flashy for Felix. >Gold highlights offer no tactical advantage whatsoever.
>>5616812>>5616843Screw it, changing my vote to:1.>"How about blue and grey?”>Make a mental note to do what your father would've wanted and get rid of any noble titles when you come into power.2.>”...So, a successor to the Zaku is already being worked on?”>Make a mental note to do what your father would've wanted and get rid of any noble titles when you come into power.Write-in is more of a suggestion to what our thoughts are.
>>5616940Maybe silver or white accents instead?
>>5616957The "color wheel" would dictate orange be used has the accent due to the highest contrast.
>>5616957I'm just not big on accents personally, and they in general seem too flashy for Felix. Especially when you factor in the write-in you voted for. Seems like a needless distinguisher when you're wanting to do away with such things.>>5616961Orange in this specific case could look good even if it'd make us stick out like a sore thumb. Though there's more to it than just contrasting colors. Given the color choice of blue green, any warm color would look at least presentable as highlights.
>>5616964>Blue-greenMeant blue & gray.
>>5616964It visually help break the colour.Officers often have stripes on their uniform to be a able t be quickly identified in the battlefield, right? I could see this more organized Zeon adding accents to the suits of squad leaders, so we wouldn't necessarily be special.
>>5616966>Officers often have stripes on their uniform to be able to be quickly identified in the battlfield, right? No, not at all. That's the exact opposite of what you want. In a modern context, officers want to blend in with their men as much as possible to prevent being singled out by enemy snipers, drones, smart munitions, etc. The people they work with know who they are, they don't need anything more than a rank insignia as a formality. Felix will excel in leading a recon/marksman unit. Painting him brightly or making him even more identifiable will only work against us in that regard.
>>5616969In that case we should probably have multiple color schemes to use: Yellow and Orange for desert regions, Green and Brown for forests, Blue and Grey for urban and Black and White for space
>>5616971I don't disagree but that's unnecessarily over complicating our choices without any meaningful outcome. If we want to get invested in it then we should look into disruptive patterns, camouflage, netting, and the like. WW2/1 Style ship disruptive liveries could be pretty damn cool if applied to MS. Not necessarily to make it more difficult to spot but to make ranging by eye much harder.
But if we need to pick only one, this is good>>5616877I like the soft blue and grey and how they alternate.I still want atleast some white stripes just to add a break to the colour block. It would have less contrast, but it wouldn't make us stick out. But removing it wouldn't be a deal breaker>>5616974I'm now imaging a Zaku wearing a robe while sneaking around.Spotting things by eye is going to be very important in the OYW because of the particles messing with sensors, so investing in some way to camouflage mobile suits do feel like it would be worthwhile.
>>5616979>Spotting things by eye is going to be very important in the OYW because of the particles messing with sensors100%. This early in MS development it'll be super important to optically deaden our suits. More advanced sensors come back eventually but right now the various camos are our best bet.

“How about blue and grey?” You ask, your curiosity at once piqued by the idea of unique colors, “Blue and grey?” The bald man repeats your words, nodding after just a moment, “Yes, absolutely, my lord. We’ve already produced a few in those colors for testing.”“...For testing, really?” You grin, already imagining what it would be like to pilot a Zaku; free from the confines of the simulator you’d be able to truly feel the rush of acceleration, the g forces pulling on you as they always should have. Indeed, every burn and clanking footstep of the massive machine would be a reminder of just how far you’ve come… But it will have to wait for another day, your injury wouldn’t tolerate such forces well yet, “A shame we’re in the state we are, I would’ve loved to try one.” The engineer quickly agrees, and just a little too quickly, “Y-yes, my lord, quite a shame w-wha happened. Would you like one of the blue and grey Zakus to be kept aside for you, sir?”“No, that won’t be necessary just yet.” You sigh as the illusory opportunity fades away into nothing, your chance to pilot a Zaku foiled by an assassin's bullet - It might have failed to kill you, but it’s certainly been succeeding at killing fun, “I don’t wish to impose on testing this early, carry on with them as you were... Do make sure those colors can be put on future models though.”"Yes, my lord, that should prove no trouble at all."Dozle and the engineer continue to move ahead through the increasingly loud inner workings of the factory, a few workers stopping briefly to nod respectfully or even give small bows as your group passes by. Red light washes over you as nearby one of the red eye sensors burns into life, sliding about inside of the track of a half assembled Zaku’s head. One of the grey coverall wearing workers shouts something to another and flashes a thumbs up, and the test of the eye sensor repeats once more before the light fades from it and the head it rests in is moved down the line and another arrives to replace it, the entire act repeating once more.“Are their weapons produced here as well?” Casval asks, red light flooding all about him once again; it suits him well, but he’s always been somewhat fond of the color.“A few, over on the far side of the factory.” Vivima answers before the engineer can begin speaking, eagerly taking up the topic, “That’s where the vulcan modules are being produced, isn’t it?”“Yes, Lady Vivima.” The bald engineer confirms, glancing down and checking something on his clipboard before continuing. His brow furrows in deep lines of worry, “...Apologies, they aren’t producing the modules yet, it should begin next week.”“Oh? Weapon modules?” Dozle scratches a bit at his scarred chin with one massive hand, “Explain what you mean.”
>>5617046“It was an idea put forward by a few of our engineers in the past, Colonel Dozle.” The man explains, shifting uneasily under the gaze of the largest Zabi, “Opinions among test pilots about the utility of integrated vulcan guns was very polarized, even their location in the head or chest has proven controversial, and so-”“And so long story short the spaces set aside for them in the chest and head have been expanded somewhat and turned into standardized bays which can accept a number of different modules.” Vivima takes over once more, waving off the beginning of the engineer’s nervous explanation, “They’re small, but it allows for the thirty millimeter vulcans to be installed as well as those of a larger caliber if desired, and even single use rocket launchers. An extra fuel tank can be installed in the area if weapons aren't needed. That’s correct, isn’t it?”“Yes, Lady Vivima.” The bald engineer bows his head, and part of you increasingly wonders what the point of having him along even if Vivima already knows so much about nearly everything here. “The spaces themselves have already been adjusted for, and we’re standardizing around the same sizes for future designs. Provisions are being made for additional spaces of the same type in the next generation of mobile suits, but it has proven somewhat tricky to maintain durability and the flow of the fluid pulse systems…”“Make sure durability and mobility are not sacrificed. Chasing customization at the cost of performance is no good. A few spaces will serve well enough - Eliminate them if it proves too troublesome. Mobile suits must be strong and maneuverable before anything else!” Dozle thunders out the order easily, almost without thought, smashing one great fist into the palm of his other hand, “...These modules may have the making of a great advancement though, Vivima.”Vivima looks at her older brother warmly as he compliments what must have been her idea. You vaguely remember her explaining it in the past during your joint project at the academy.
>>5617051“Y-yes, Colonel Dozle, it will be done.” The engineer agrees readily, scribbling down the order on his clipboard.“Very flexible.” Casval agrees approvingly with Dozle’s assessment, “Do you expect they’ll see common use?”Viv shakes her head, feathered purple hair shifting about slightly as she does so, “Among normal pilots? No, I expect maximizing fuel load and durability will be more important, hand held weapons for a mobile suit cover most needs. …Are the reconnaissance modules under work yet?”“...Y-yes, Lady Vivima, our entry to the design competition will prove quite excellent, I have no doubt it will win. Zimmad's design stands no chance.” >”So the Zaku will only have two of these spaces, a larger one in the chest and then… one or two small ones in the head? Fascinating… What’s this about a reconnaissance module competition?” >”It sounds like things are coming along very well then. What other standardizations have been made so far? “So the Zaku will only have two of these spaces, a large one in the chest and then… one or two small ones in the head?” You ask, unsure of the specifics of these module port - The potential to tailor a mobile suit for a specific mission profile with needing a specialized suit is a very appealing idea, but it sounds like a rather serious engineering challenge.“Yes, my lord, that’s correct.” The engineer answers, “If I recall correctly the next generation is planned to have at least two in the chest, one on either side, to allow for more symmetrical loadouts. External hardpoints and specialized backpacks are also being worked upon, but the backpacks are still largely on paper. In a few weeks we should have the first prototypes ready.”A few weeks? Development moves faster than you expected, but something external like a backpack probably is easier to make than redesigns of more integral systems.Nodding, you look up to one of the partially assembled mobile suits nearby as you roll along with the rest of your tour group. Searching over the exposed internals of the great machine you spot a relatively modest cavity on the left of its chest which must be where the module will be placed, “Fascinating… What’s this about a reconnaissance module competition?”“It was Kycilia’s idea.” Vivima answers you, “As soon as I told her about my module plan she came up with the idea - She doesn't like missing details, and wanted to make sure that intelligence gathering was given an important place in development early on. Some of her agency's engineers wrote up specifications for a contest, Zeonic and Zimmad are both submitting bids. A few smaller companies are as well, but I doubt they’ll amount to much.”“Doesn’t like missing details? Oh ho ho!” Dozle chuckles deeply at his younger sister’s statement, shaking his scarred head with amusement, “No, Kycilia does not. Intelligence gathering is vital to any operation - You cannot crush an enemy you don’t know is there!” “How are the designs coming along then? What is Zeonic submitting?” Casval asks the bald engineer, and the man checks over his clipboard for a few moments before answers, one finger resting on the information he was searching for.
>>5617274“Very well, my lord.” The engineer answers, “We’re working on an advanced electro-optical suite, with modules planned for the head and torso slots… very large cameras, essentially. The chest module is planned for more demanding intelligence gathering missions, it houses more powerful sensors, whereas the head modules are focused more upon gathering enhanced targeting information - Both modules will be able to work together of course, but they’re useful on their own as well.”“...Targeting enhancements? I do like the sound of that.” You flash a small grin, “When is this competition being held?”“One month from today, my lord. Most of our equipment is already nearing completion.” >”A month? I’d like to be there for that.” You should be closer to being recovered by then, but it’s difficult to predict how long recovering from your leg wound will really take. “So these modules are being planned for recon use, and one of them is a targeting enhancer… There’s nothing wrong with aggressive recon, but that almost sounds like it could do sniper work as well.”“A sniper mobile suit?” The bald engineer’s brow furrows, “...“I’m not sure that’s been considered, the module was intended to help with shooting down federation reconnaissance craft… We do have anti-ship rifles under development, but test pilots haven’t been using them much at long range. I could forward that idea to our engineering teams, my lord. ” “Please do, I’d like it to start being discussed at least - That’s not a design request though, keep up the other work…” You reply, adjusting a bit in your wheelchair as it continues to be pushed along by your guard, “These targeting modules are too fragile for wider use, aren’t they?”“Yes, it’s the nature of advanced optics, they can’t be armored very much. We do have several teams working on the next generation of sensor upgrades, those should be rugged enough for the heaviest of fighting.” “I see, that’s what I suspected.” You say with the faintest touch of disappointment, part of you having hoped that these targeting upgrades could have been applied more generally, “Has there been any work put into camouflage options? With Minovsky interference optical detection will be more important than other sensors.”“We’re studying it currently.” Dozle rumbles, his response hardly surprising you - He’s kept busy by all kinds of work, the academy especially, but he is still the head of Zeon’s mobile suit research units, “Space and ground patterns as well.”“Camouflaging a mobile suit sounds like an exercise in futility, Felix.” Casval says, eliciting a small shrug from Dozle, “ Wouldn’t enemies spot engine flares whenever a mobile suit moves?”“We’ve had some success making targeting more difficult…” Dozle rumbles, and you can’t help but notice that he doesn’t actually sound all that disappointed by stealth being of limited usefulness - He’s not a very stealthy man, ”The effects are minimal. There is more use for it on the ground to hide from aircraft.”Casval smirks, probably imagining some silly scene which you’re not privy to,“That does make more sense.”
>>5617398“You shouldn’t underestimate a good ambush, in space or on the ground, but perhaps you have a point.” You begrudgingly acknowledge Casval’s point about thrusters - Of course the colors of a mobile suit don’t matter very much in space, they fire blindingly bright flares of burning fuel every time they move - They could be painted bright white and it would change the range at which they’re detected by all that much. Still, there might be niche applications… Or perhaps paint isn’t how a mobile suit should be hidden at all, maybe there’s a better way.Rolling past the end of one of the lines, you’re soon in another vast chamber of the factory. Nearly completed Zakus are undergoing finishing touches here, at least a dozen but with room for many times that number. They tower over the room, great green cyclops’ staring out at the world with glowing red eyes. “A dozen so soon?” Your step-father asks, his deep voice sounding throughout the vast room, “This is ahead of schedule!”“Yes, Colonel Dozle, ahead by several days even with the requested changes,” The engineer replies, for once without a hint of nervousness - It’s clear at once that he was leading you here for exactly this kind of reaction, “The new factory is really something, isn’t she?” “Indeed she is, what a lady!” Dozle laughs thunderously, hands on his hips as he looks out across the colossal forms of the Zakus, “I look forward to seeing her at full capacity in the coming months, and factory B as well.”“...So, how about Mobile Armor?” You broach the new subject with all the subtlety of a Zaku crushing a terrorist underfoot, but the giant man and the enormous robots have your mind of large weapons - And unless you want to count ships there just isn’t anything larger than those Mobile Armor proposals Vivima discussed in the past. The question knocks the wind right out of the engineer’s sails, sending him spiraling back into nervous responses, “M-mobile armors, my lord? Those designs lost out to Mobile Suits just last year, why would you ask?”“Mobile Armor?” Casval questions, blue eyes looking at you with unconcealed curiosity. It’s not something you’ve discussed with him, even your discussions with Vivima haven’t ever been all that long.“Sort of a middle point between a mobile suit and a small ship, but a hell of a lot meaner than either if the pilot has the right stuff,” You explain very crudely to your brother before looking to the engineer, “There aren’t any facilities for producing them here, are there?”“No, my lord, there are not, those designs were rejected…” He looks to Dozle and Vivima, “...Are they being reconsidered? We still have the prototypes in the testing facility, it’s a short drive from here, I could send for one of the pilots to show you them.”“Mmm, I did like those Mobile Armors… Very large. “I was just curious if there was any design work still being put into mobile armors. One failure isn’t the end of the road, is it?” You ask.“I don’t believe there’s been any work for s-some time, my lord.” The engineer is still mostly looking to Dozle, searching for some deeper sign of approval on the huge man’s scarred face, “After mobile suits were chosen our design teams shifted focus, but as I said we did keep the prototypes and design work in case interest was shown later… Is there interest?”“Yes, that makes sense…” You agree, knowing the broad strokes of why mobile armor lost out in the design, “They would be able to fill roles that mobile suits probably can’t, it’s caught my interest.”“Mine as well.” Vivima agrees from nearby, “I’d like to hear your take on it, Felix.” “What are you getting at, Felix?” Dozle rumbles, looking down to you, “We don’t have unlimited resources.” You sit up a little more in your wheelchair and meet Dozles eyes as you explain your reasoning, trying to get the gist of it across without talking his ear off, “I’ve been thinking of mobile armor as fulfilling the role of support units. They would have smaller production numbers than mobile suits, the same numbers simply aren’t needed. My idea is that they could be attached to mobile suit squads for organic fire support, and when or where that isn’t necessary they could be organized into their own mobile armor formations for making breakthroughs or general shock and awe.” “Mobile armor as support and breakthrough units? That sounds like tanks, Felix…” Dozle tilts his head a little, eyes narrowing for a long moment before a toothy grin slowly spreads across his face, “That might work.” “You won’t need to convince me then, Felix. My idea is close enough to the same thing.” Vivima says happily, lending her support, “I was going to focus more on a dedicated role as a capital ship hunter, but there’s no reason those units couldn’t provide support with the same tools.”“...I’d like to see these mobile armors.” Casval adds, taking up the engineer’s earlier offer. He’s the least informed about them of your group, so curiosity isn’t all that surprising - Something powerful, fast, and reliant on the skill of a single pilot does also check a lot of boxes for Cas. In some things at least he’s not too difficult to predict.“Is there renewed interest in the designs?” The engineer perks up as he asks the question.“Perhaps.” Dozle rumbles.>See what’s left of the mobile armor program, Cas doesn’t know much about it.>Continue checking out mobile suit development, there are new things for all of you to learn.

Half an hour later, at an old hangar within Zeonic’s industrial compound.Traveling out of the factory was not a long process, after a quick transfer over to one of the many internal trams your group was right off on its way to see the opposite side of Zeonic’s industrial compound - The opposite side of their colony almost, the industrial works here are immense, though most of it is given over to consumer products and heavy construction equipment. Back ‘outside’, a sky of factories wraps up overhead, heavy cargo transports more along the zero g center axis of the colony’s cylindrical interior, and even a few yellow and black Mobile Workers are visible here and there. More engineers and a man in a suit, an executive of some stripe or another, have joined your little tour, arriving too late to show off the mobile suit production but just in time to be caught nearly totally off guard by a request to look at what they must have thought was a dead project - The looks on their faces probably won’t ever get old, surprise inspections really are something. The wheels of the heavy elecar slowly roll to a halt outside of what looks to be an enormous and relatively old aircraft hangar. A number of helicopters and many light spacecraft parked about the field, giving the area a nearly archaic look, very much like something you’d see at a Federation base on earth… you had the mobile armors to be stored at a bay back at the spaceport, but perhaps they really have been languishing in obscurity since their failure…Your guard helps you out of the car and into your wheelchair - It’s not strictly necessary, you can still move if you have to, but the doctors have been insistent that you don’t strain your leg for a while. It’ll be on to physical therapy after that, and recovering some of your muscle mass that you’ve already noticed fading away… You haven’t lost too much thankfully, and you’re expected to again make a full recovery, but that assassin’s bullet has proven more troublesome than you would’ve first expected. Vivima and Casval have been having similar issues but somewhat worse. The great doors of the old hangar slowly rumble open, sliding apart on tracks to reveal a brightly lit interior and a number of enormous objects concealed under green tarps, each easily larger than a pair of mobile suits put together.“You really did mothball it all!” Dozle calls out to the executive in a friendly tone, pointing with one huge finger toward the the tarp covered machines, “Do they still run?”“Their reactors haven’t been disabled yet but it has been months since a full startup has been performed… I’m not sure, Colonel.” One of the many, many engineers answers the question, the voice seeming to just emerge from the crowd of technical experts and businessmen that are slowly accumulating about you as more elecars roll up. Damn, word of the visit really has gotten out.
>>5618307“Well, let’s check then!” Vivima says, clapping her hands together before point to a few of the engineers, “You, get those tarps off of them, I want to see these lovely machines again… oh, I can’t believe I missed this the first time around!”…Damn, you haven’t seen her this excited since she was around Tryphosa. Ha, that was something wasn’t it? Karaoke would be fun to do again sometime. You push thoughts of drinking and singing aside for now though, watching intently as the group of engineers pull at the tarp - After a few weights are removed the whole tarp falls away, rippling down to the ground and piling high as the sleek and angular mobile armor beneath is revealed. An enormous mono-eye sensor stares out at you from within a deep recess in its triangular dark blue hull, heavy weapon ports dotting its curving armor plates here and there, missile launchers of some kind. A single heavy cannon, a beam weapon of some kind, protrudes far from the pointed nose of the craft, giving off the vague impression of an ancient tank hunting aircraft, or one of the long extinct narwhal whales. A pair of recessed arms cling to the bottom of the craft, more spindly and far less humanoid than those of a mobile suit, but you recognize at once that they’re part of an AMBAC system. Armored vernier ports and a trio of enormous engines at its rear bring everything together, the mobile armor even looks fast despite its immense size.“This was your attempt at outdoing MIP, wasn’t it?” Dozle asks the executive, “I remember this one.”“Yes, it was a competitor to their Bigro. I stand by its superiority.” The old man smirks, “They share some of the same initial design work, but the Gavrilo is vastly more capable.” “The Gavrilo?” You repeat the name, something about it sounding oddly familiar, “What are the others?”“A pair of the Bigro prototypes!” Vivima answers, nearly standing up from her wheelchair before wincing and lowering herself back down, and as tarps are pulled away her claims are proven to be true, “So the technical cooperation law really has been followed, I’m glad to see it.”The executive frowns, not even attempting to hide his displeasure at whatever it is she’s referencing, “Of course, we comply with law as strictly as possible. MIP and Zimmad have received examples of the Bugu and Waff as well. We have one of Zimmad’s flying coffins under study right now as well.”“A Zudah?” Viv asks, receiving a small nod in the affirmative.>”Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s see if the Gavrilo can still power up.” A reactor that size has got to have a nice thrum to it if nothing else, it’s a massive craft.>”The Zudah?... Those are exploding ones right? “Well, what are we waiting for?” You ask the slowly growing crowd, “Let’s see if the Gavrilo can still power up.”“You heard him, get a move on!” The executive barks at a couple of the engineers standing nearby, one of the younger ones turning pale in the face as the older man’s gaze settles on him, “Lyre, get it running!”“Yes, sir, right away!” Lyre shouts back, jogging off to begin the long climb up one of the ladders that has been left in position near the building sized machine. His climb up it is slow, grey coveralls and black slowly moving up the ladder, but eventually a hatch is reached and Lyre disappears inside the Gavrilo’s dark green hull. Time passes, a few murmurs of conversation passing through the crowd as you wait. Dozle and the executive, Gil, speak for a time about mobile suits and the planned standardization of certain parts and maintenance techniques for future designs - it’s all information you’ve heard already.…Nearly imperceptibly, something in the air changes. A low hum, nearly beyond the range of human hearing, fills the enormous hangar; it’s something felt more than heard, slowly growing louder until even engineers deep in conversation with one another cannot help but notice it. With a flash of crimson light the Gavrilo’s massive optical sensor comes to life, whirring loudly as it slides along its recessed track in the mobile armor’s angular hull. “Oh, listen to that purr.” Vivima says, pulling her arms in tighter to her chest and nearly shuddering in pleasure as she listens to the thrumming hum of the Gavrilo’s fusion reactor, “That’s what a mobile weapon should sound like.”“You’ll love this then.” A smile crosses Gil’s wrinkled face as he waves up at the censor, one hand balling into a fist before being pulled down a few times, as if he was tugging on a cord or handle of some kind… What is he doing? The deep bone rattling roar of a war horn answers your question, a wave of pressure and noise assaulting your senses as the sound blasts forth, pressing you back in your wheelchair with its sheer power; several engineers take a step or two back, unready for intensity of it, while other try in vain to cover their ears. As the noise slowly fades Vivima’s laughter can be heard above murmured curses from a few men in the crowd, her crystal clear voice carrying easily across the hangar.“Oh, I do!” Viv manages to say between fitful excited laughs, barely getting the words out, violet eyes wide, “She has a lovely voice! …It’s a shame it can’t be heard out in space.”“She’s rated for atmospheric flight as well!” Gil replies at once, with greater spirit than you’d expect for a man of his age, “Not the focus of the design, but just imagine how quickly an enemy force would surrender after hearing that!”
>>5618543“It’s an impressive roar.” Casval agrees, “But can it fight?”“Scary bark, scarier bite.” Gil nods, pointing up at the front facing weapons of the Gavrilo, “The mega particle cannon is a cut down version of the design going on the Gwazine-class… Pre-production, so it has a few issues with the recharge rate, but the production model on the Gwazine sorted those issues out, didn’t it?”“It did, sir. …Seventy percent faster, if I remember correctly.” One of the engineers near Gil answers, but it seems as if the old man already knew - He barely waits for the answer before carrying on.“That mega particle cannon is the primary weapon, but those torpedo ports along the hull are ship breakers, each one can split a Salamis-class in two if it lands a solid hit, and those two up there aren’t torpedo ports at all - It’s hard to see from down here, but there are a pair of heavy rotary cannons for dealing with smaller craft, much heavier than what our Zakus will carry - And those are already magnificent weapons. The larger optical sensors allow for engagement at much greater ranges than a mobile suit can manage, further than many ships even - Especially the Federation’s old scrap fleet of refits, and it does all of this while moving just as fast.” He’s really laying on the sales pitch; it does sound very appealing though, even if it’s an obvious tactic. There must be all sorts of issues he isn’t mentioning.“What about the arms?” You ask, your gaze settling on the limbs kept nearly flush to the underside of the Gavrilo’s triangular hull.“They’re mostly for the AMBAC system, but they have smaller 120mm machineguns integrated into the palms - The same core design as what the Zaku uses. It can defend itself if a fighter swarm got behind it, not that they'd be able to hold that position for long, or shoot down incoming missiles. Here, follow me around to the back, the engines are something to behold.”As your group and the crowd of engineers follows Gil on the walk around to the rear of the Gavrilo, you have some time to speak with Vivima.
>>5618550“...What was that about a technical cooperation law earlier?” You ask her, pulling her back into reality from whatever mobile armor cloud she was floating on.“It was Kycilia’s idea, but I worked with her and Gihren on it. Companies supplying certain technologies to our defense forces are required to share information with their competitors. …The details of what has to be shared are complicated, it only applies to certain projects, but… The details are very favorable.”Favorable to the Zabis is what she must mean. It would give them greater control over military industry. Threats of being forced to share cutting edge designs or promises of secrecy for others are quite motivating for profit driven entities. As if controlling military spending wasn’t already enough, the Zabi’s are taking over softer methods of control. It might have some positive effects though, especially for unifying production standards and speeding up certain kinds of research… Obviously Gil wasn’t very fond of it earlier. As you reach the rear of the Gavrilo and get a better look at its massive engines you see at once why Gil wanted you to get a better look; even as enormous as they are they have some very aggressive looking gimbaling, far more than what ships of equivalent size must have… That seems like a pain to maintain, but the performance is probably incredible if it works.>”...Could you build an even bigger one?”>”What is its range? "What’s its range? I’m struggling to think of many ships that could carry it.” You ask, trying to do your best to step back from the excitement and spectacle of the mobile armor and consider more practical concerns.“With a full weapon load it is still slightly greater than a Zaku, but the Zaku’s catching up quickly with all of the enhancements we’re already working into the design.” Gil answers, pointing up to the massive engines, “It’s only a difference of a few percent, but the same improvement could be applied to mobile armor as well.”“And the ships?” You press further.“The new Dolos-class will be capable of it, and modifications could be made to a number of other types.”“The Gwazines will be capable of it.” Dozle adds, but there’s a skeptical look in his eye that you’re more used to seeing from Kycilia or Vivima, “That is still very limited.”“It is not an insurmountable issue, the fleet is already expanding, a new class for mobile suits and armor seems sensible to me. They could be carried externally as well.” Gil answers, as ready as anyone could be for the question.VIvima shakes her head at that, mouth wrinkled up in dissatisfaction and one hand extending out to point to a technician hidden among the crowd of engineers, ”You, how would you feel about needing to do a spacewalk every time you had to service a vehicle?”“...Me, Lady Vivima?” The young woman asks for confirmation before speaking, looking over to Gil nervously, the old man’s gaze causing great unease in his relatively unimportant employee, “I… I suppose it would be more challenging. It would be possible, but…”“The truth.” Vivima urges her on.“It would be very fatiguing, mistakes would be more likely. Accommodations could be made to alleviate that, but regular space walks are a good way to run down a crew.” Viv nods, having received the answer she was expecting, “Exactly. It’s useful, but no substitute for a ship in the long term.”“There have been proposals for intermediate carriers to provide mobile suit cover in sectors where a Dolos is not required.” Dozle crosses his huge arms as he mulls over the idea, and for some reason you find a part of you wondering if these carriers are going to get scale models released of them as well, “...The Dolos is a great design though, a proper carrier for decisive fleet actions!”“...Could a flight deck and hangars be added to a Musai? If the turrets were removed the interior could be hollowed out for storage.” One of the many engineers suggests, “Navies did something similar centuries ago to make light carriers, back during the old global wars. …I might be getting the numbers wrong in my head, but a Gavrilo could fit along with a fair few Zakus.”
>>5618696“That would leave the ship unarmed.” Dozle points out immediately, and discussion among the engineers quickly erupts as a hangar full of particularly talented engineers begin to come up with all kinds of potential solutions - It’s too much to take much of it in, but Dozle engages with them at once. “Gil, sir,” You speak respectfully to the old Zeonic executive, “This Gavrilo’s a very impressive machine, but what made it lose out? Just cost?”“Everything comes back to cost in the end.” He nods, “There were a few technical challenges as well, but I’m certain they could have all been overcome in time.”“Technical challenges? That’s not something a pilot likes to hear.” Your brother gives the old man a skeptical look, blue eyes piercing right through him - Of course Gil is going to downplay technical issues, he’s obviously trying to get the program picked back up.“Fine, I’ll be frank with you boys then; besides the cannons firing rate, we could never get the I-field generator to work, and there were stubborn issues with the optical targeting systems. The torpedo launchers had reliability issues with their feed mechanisms, and there were a dozen other things… but those kinds of teething issues aren’t uncommon with early prototypes.”“...I-field generator?” You and Casval both ask Gil at the same time. The term is not one you’ve heard before. The old man explains things confidently while Dozle and Vivima speak with the horde of engineers all about you, “Minovsky particles can be projected in a kind of force field to deflect mega particle beams; it’s pulls more energy than a mobile suit could ever produce and generates some ferocious heat, but it can stop the guns of an entire fleet for as long as cooling systems hold out… if the generator works at all, anyways. We’ve managed to get it working in larger vessels, the Gwazines will have several.”“An entire fleet’s worth of mega particle cannons? The field doesn’t get worn down by that much fire?” You ask incredulously, thinking at once of the shields which so often show up in science fiction stories and how they drain away when hit.Gil shakes his head, grinning wolfishly, “No, an I-field is completely impenetrable to mega particle based attacks if it is constructed correctly. Isn’t that grand? They’re finicky though, and put off enough heat that they can’t be used for an entire battle, twenty minutes tops… But for a lightning strike into an enemy fleet? That’s more than enough.”
>>5618697“They only protect from beam weapons?” Casval asks, raising the next question you had in mind. “That’s right, doesn’t do a thing to stop old fashioned shells, but the Federations moved its whole fleet over to mega particle cannons besides their defensive guns - Convenient, isn’t it?” Gil laughs darkly, “It’s no wonder though, a beam cannon does far more than the old shell spitters ever could. It’s a shame it can’t be scaled down for mobile suits, the reactor output just isn’t there.”>”...I-fields are quite finicky then, that’s a shame. I think it should be pursued, even if the Gavrilo never got it working.”>”...How’s the armor on the Gavrilo then? “Beam weapons can’t be scaled down?...” You ask, the idea not sitting quite right with what you learned of Federation experiments back on Side Seven, “Do you have anyone researching it or is that just an assumption from the reactor draw it would need?”Gil answers in his usual way, giving both more and less information than you asked for, “We have a beam weapons research division that works on naval weaponry, they agree with our reactor division that there just isn’t the power output necessary from a mobile suit sized fusion reactor - Now that we’ve got Minvosky working again I’m sure reactors will be right back to steadily improving, but it’s a tall mountain to climb.”You shake your head a little, unsatisfied with the answer, “I understand the technical challenges might not be overcome, but has an attempt to do it actually been made? I have it on good authority that the Federation has managed to scale down their beam weapons significantly.”“No, we don’t have anyone working on it. I’ve seen those reports as well. Lady Kycilia had them sent to our offices along with a contingent of her security officers after Minovsky’s… doubts.” The old man’s expression turns dreadfully dark for a moment, eyes staring off at some horrible unseen memory which you can nearly feel - fear and disgust mingling in the air before dissolving away, “From what I understand the Federation was looking into scaling down naval weapons for smaller ship classes. That’s a much more achievable goal - We’ve already done it with the Gavrilo here, and she’s a year out of date now.”“Did you see the originals?” You ask, his take on what the pictures showed somewhat off from your own memory of them - Elena isn’t an energy weapons expert by any means, but she didn’t “No, I don’t believe so, they’re state secrets.” Gil says, his eyes narrowing as he begins to pick up on what you’re trying to tell him, “A technical memorandum and engineering drawings were sent over from the Kycilia agency… Why?”“Was there any mention of an e-cap system? My…" You search for a moment for how you'd like to describe Elena, certainly you can't admit to your publicly secret girlfriend doing spy work, "Personal technical expert thought it might be some kind of capacitor technology, there wasn’t enough in the documents to make out exactly how it works, but from what I understood it helped to make up for the reactor output being insufficient. They called it an ‘e-cap’ system.”
>>5619137Gil goes quiet for a long while, thinking to himself, perhaps running the numbers or whatever it is that goes through the head of a man like him. You don’t even know his background, he could be a well informed businessman or a former engineer, or any of a dozen other things - wherever it is he came from he's ended up as very powerful businessman, “...Interesting that got left out. Capacitors off all sorts are already used as part of any beam weapon, but you wouldn’t be mentioning it if was something regular like that… We’ve looked into expendable capacitors for smaller ship weapons before, but the storage technology just isn’t there even for those - and they’re terribly volatile besides. You’re sure the Federation was testing this?”“Absolutely certain.” You confirm. Casval and Vivima have gotten caught up in conversation with one of the lower ranking engineers nearby, and Dozle’s still speaking about ships with many of the others. It’s good you didn’t bring Glemy for this part of the visit, he would’ve been terribly bored with all this discussion and a whole mobile armor so close by but going unexplored.“...We’ll look into it. Could you have the originals of those documents sent over?”>”I’ll speak with Kycilia about it.” …Why wouldn’t she send them all over? “Yes, I’ll have my technical assistant send over copies.” You agree, but your words are very nearly drowned out by the lively conversation going on all about you - It doesn’t even seem like Vivima heard you, she’s deep in discussion about mobile suit melee weapons, claws of some kind. There’s certainly no shortage of ideas for new military technologies, whether they’re a useful idea is a very different matter.“I’ll have my people get to work looking them over as soon as they arrive.” A smile spreads across Gil’s wrinkled face - And just like that things are set in motion. Is this your new power? A few minutes of conversation and an entire research project begins? …You make a note to take care with that in the future, lest you run afoul of the Zabis or other powerful players within Zeon. You’re only intending to improve the military by handing over this information, but there might be all kinds of schemes afoot which you aren’t yet aware of. It seems unlikely that Kycilia’s engineers would omit information about the e-cap system on accident, unless they’re painfully incompetent it must have been purposeful.Later that day. >>5619278I wouldn't say it is unscrapped yet, people are just talking about it again and in a new way. Restarting it takes money and lots of it, and none of that has moved around yet. Zeonic might do some private R&D now in hopes of another chance at a contract. Out at Zeonic’s vehicle testing fields. The reflected sunlight of the colony shines down upon you, bright and warm against your skin, the distant sound of roaring thrusters filling the air. You hold up a hand to shield your eyes as you try to track the leaping thruster enhanced jumps of a pair of Zakus as they vault from one copse of trees to another across the vast landscape of Zeonic’s testing grounds. The great green machines crashed down among the trees, saplings and full grown alike splintering like matches beneath tons of super hardened steel. Glemy cheers next to you in the observation stands, tugging lightly on your arm and point out at the explosion of wood and dirt kicked up by the landing.“Woah! They just smashed all of them! Look, Felix!” Your little brother urges you, as if you weren’t already enraptured by the display - You can hardly take your eyes from it for a moment, the Zakus hardly slowing after their deforesting landing, pushing right out of the trees and into the open field of the rest of the testing area.“You won’t want to miss this,” You gently direct his vision back out toward the Zakus and away from you, “They’re about to shoot.”The flash and smoke of their 120mm “machineguns” firing are visible for half a moment before the sound reaches you, a rapid string of dull thunder cracks rolling one into the other. A few hundred yards from the Zakus an arrangement of old armored personnel carriers and junky cargo trucks vanish under a storm of explosions and kicked up dirt, pieces of metal flying about here and there as they’re utterly obliterated. The Zakus sprint forward toward the mulched vehicles, crushing great footprints into the grass before scorching a great streak of it black with the flame of their thrusters. The jump carries them up into the air once again, and after a long moment suspended and silhouetted against the skyline of distant factories, the Zakus come crashing back down on a pair of tanks. A blazing orange-white edge of one of their heat hawks cleaves a tank in two, sending most of its upper hull and turret flying a dozen yards before skipping and scraping to a stop, digging a deep furrow into the ground. The other tank is nearly completely caved in by the second Zaku’s foot, and a contemptuous kick sends it rolling over a few times. It is an unrecognizable heap of steel when it finally comes to a halt.
>>5619717“And now for the real show!” Gil announces, sweeping an arm out toward the field before speaking into a small radio one of his assistants hands him, “Hit unit one, five rounds.” The torso and arms of one of the Zakus disappear in blossoming fireballs as heavy guns at the edges of the testing range open fire. The mobile suit takes a step back, half staggering before bracing itself against the fire - As the smoke clears it is still standing strong and tall, heat hawk raised over its head victoriously before quite literally walking off the tanks shells.“More.” Gil says, and the thudding steady drumbeat of cannon fire begins; both Zakus press forward into the attacks, advancing even under such heavy hits. A few shells bounced as they strike the edges of their limbs, ricocheting off into the distance before exploding mid air as safety fuses detonate the rounds.“They’re so strong!” Glemy says, standing up on his seat to get a better view, blue eyes wide - “Is this just high explosive rounds?” Vivima asks Dozle quietly, and the big man gives a small nod in the affirmative, “No wonder they’re holding up that well. Gil, give them a few armor piercing rounds, lets see how their armor holds up against a real threat.” “At this range they’re nearly immune.” Gil boasts proudly before giving the order, “Load armor piercing and give them another salvo. Unit one, unit two, you have AP coming your way, get ready boys.”“Is this… safe?” You find yourself asking, immediately worried for the pilots - Normally armor testing would be done against stationary and unmanned units. Shooting a crewed vehicles almost seems insane, but… you hear cheers over the radio, faint and crackling but definitely cheers. The pilots want to be shot at. Perhaps it is safe then, they’d know the machine better than anyone.“Absolutely not!” Gil laughs, speaking into his radio again, “You have permission to dance.” And with that the cannons open up again, shells whizzing by overhead as the heavy guns lay into the twin Zakus which are not showing off their ample agility - Their running is a robotic and steady pace, not terribly graceful, but they still manage the same speed as a main battle tank moving at full pelt; except no tank in service has jump jets as well. Carefully timed thrusts send the Zakus flying away from the incoming barrage of shells, dirt kicking up hundreds of yards behind where they where just moments ago. More shells fly in, some striking the mobile suits even as they move, none find purchase, bouncing and deflecting off in burning arcs or simply stopped cold by slabs of super hardened steel armor.“That’s enough.” Gil signals over the radio, the cannon fire coming quickly to a stop and the Zakus again flourishing their weapons, ”Excellent work boys, you’ll get the usual bonuses. How do you like the display?”
>>5619718“It’s very impressive - How close can they get before being penetrated?" Vivima asks, biting a little at her lower lip after asking the question.“Even at this ranger there are a few places near their joints, but the real danger is within a few hundred meters.” Gil answers, “I’m sure you’ve seen the static test results, Lady Vivima.”“I have.” She nods, “There’s no substitute for the real thing though - They’re magnificent, I can hardly wait for the next generation.”“The agility was impressive, but they still took hits.” Casval compliments, but you can already see a competitive fire in his blue eyes, “Are these the best pilots you have? Zakus might need to be made more maneuverable if this is the best they can manage on the ground.”“All of our pilots are excellent.”>”...Do their heat hawks really stop one another, or would both just cut into one another?” You know heat weapons sort of bounce off each other in simulations and cause more than a deep knick to each other's blades, but it always seemed odd.>”They’re still vulnerable to tank guns at close range? How much weight would it add to make them totally immune? Add-on armor might be useful in urban settings where they can’t jump like that…”>”I can’t help but agree, brother. “I can’t help but agree, brother. The Federation has heavier guns than these,” You motion back toward the gun turrets, “On their land battleships and largest tanks. Nothing can afford to take a hit from one of those.”Dozle chuckles, “The Big Tray-class is very powerful, that would be a sight. …Perhaps we need something bigger to counter it.”“I agree that maneuverability is more important, but there’s something to be said for armor still…” Vivima comments, arms crossed as she watches the mobile suits continue to show off in the distance, “Dozle, how about mobile armor? A heavy beam cannon would blast those glorified Feddie coffins to bits.”“Well, I’ll say the Gavrilo would be up to the task.” Gil replies, always finding a place to push his companies products subtly or not - His suggestions have been fairly reasonable so far though, a Gwazine’s main gun, even cut down, probably packs enough punch to severely damage a Big Tray, ”As for maneuverability and armor, you’ll like our surprise.”“Surprise?” Glemy asks excitedly, nearly leaping up from his seat again, “What is it?”“Glemy, he’s an important man. How do you address him properly?” You ask your little brother, and Glemy puffs out his cheeks before correcting his question.“What is it, sir?”“Ha, you’re a good kid. It one of our testbed mobile suits for Lady Vivima’s maintenance and modularity program, as well as our Zaku II program…” Gil answers before speaking into the small radio once again, a few of the other engineers observing the test smiling as he does so - they must know what’s about to happen, “Mash, Ortega, bring them out!”“Mash and Ortega?” Dozle rumbles, his scarred brow furrowing, “They’re good pilots, I’ve met them.”“They’ve got exactly the spirit you need for testing new designs, real cowboys.” GIl agrees, “Casval, I expect you’ll like these.”“I await them with bated breath, Gil.” Your brother replies in that borderline arrogant manner he often has; how does he make it come off so charming? If you said the same words it would… Hmm, actually it might work for you as well.
>>5620171In the distance a pair of specks emerges on the horizon, launching from a far off mobile suit hangar and blasting into the sky with a trails of white hot exhaust. You squint and can see immediately that they’re Zaku’s off some kind, but even your eyes struggle to pick up small details so far away - They’re closing the distance fast, faster than the other Zakus did, and growing quickly in size. It looks like someone has serious up armored a Zaku, but that speed and the size of those exhaust plumes could only mean they have thrusters to match…The pair of heavier mobile suits land surprisingly gently on the ground only a hundred meters or so from the stands, scorching the grass and kicking up a dust cloud but little else - The pilots must be good to control them so well. A wash of wind blows past as even at this distance the effects of their enormous thrusters can still be felt, even a faint heat. Many of the lightly armored sections of the Zaku have been reinforced, a shoulder shield protecting one arm and heavy scalloped plating covering nearly the entirety of the other. The enlarged thruster nozzles are a more subtle detail, but they’re there… and what is with that head crest? It even has a chest vulcan in one of those module slots you saw earlier - It’s a far more impressive sight fully assembled.“It almost looks like an ancient centurion, or maybe a gladiator! They’re fantastic!” Vivima says, covering her mouth with one hand as she barely contains her excitement, “Are those royal guard insignia?”“To commemorate the first mobile suit use and honor the fallen,” Gil informs her, and you can’t help but feel something stir in your heart at seeing them - You didn’t know those guards well, but many men died to ensure you had another day of life; you fought besides some of them before they fell… You were named after a fallen bodyguard, and only now are you beginning to understand the depths of why your true father must have chosen the name. You’re snapped out your self-reflection by the booming voice emanating from one of the testbed Zaku’s loudspeakers, a heavy drawl blasting across the stands, “It’s a shame y’ll couldn’t see us in our real colors, ain’t that right Ortega?”“You know it, Mash!” The other green Zaku thunders, “Damn shame about Gaia too, left on his ass…”“Turn yer damn speaker off, there’s a lady listenin’!” “You had yers on first! Looky there, she loves it!”Vivima’s giggling in way you’ve not heard often, cheeks red as the two Zakus bicker over her, and she gives them both a small wave.
>>5620172“Their speed was excellent.” Casval says to Gil, nodding approvingly - He means it too, you can feel it in the air around him, unconcealed approval, “Could it be pushed further? Those pilots could handle it.”The old man nods, “They can. These are just testbed units. With what we learn from them we’ll be improving all of our future designs, from the smallest module to the bleeding edge of mobile suit design. They have an improved fluid pulse system as well, much more maneuverable in close combat - We’ve been thinking about spinning off a ‘royal guard’ design from them, some of the engineers have been calling them praetorians. How’d you like that?”>”...It would be appropriate, the fallen should be honored and I’m sure they would find these a fitting memorial - more than any statue ever could be. “...It would be appropriate, the fallen should be honored and I’m sure as fighting men they would find these a fitting memorial - more than any statue ever could be.” You reply solemnly, thoughts drifting back not just to the Zabi’s guards but also the men who fought and died in Spain… It’s strange to think you owe your life to two groups who could’ve been killing one another just a few years ago. This long ploy against the Zabis only grows more complicated each day.“It would be an honor for any soldier.” Casval agrees, “And keeping a mobile suit close at hand may prove useful in the future.”“I doubt an assassin would dare attack with mobile suits guarding us, especially ones so capable… It would be a shame to only use them for guard duty though. Those are commander antennas, aren’t they?”“They are.” Dozle confirms at once, pointing with a huge finger toward the angular protrusions jutting from the Zaku’s armored heads, just above their mono-eye sensor, “Look there, Glemy, on their heads.”The blond boy looks up, his gaze following along where Dozle points to the very tops of the pair of mobile suits; behind them the original two Zakus are moving closer, the differences in design apparent to all sitting among the stands overlooking the testing grounds.“Do they head butt things with them?” Glemy asks aggressively, balling to tiny fists and move his own head forward forcefully, “Yeah, they’re like rhinos!”“...Not quite, Glemy. They help their radios work better.” Vivima explains, finally having recovered from her fit of Zaku spurred giggling; Mash and Ortega are still arguing with one another openly over their mobile suits external loudspeakers, and you can feel Gil growing increasingly frustrated with the two of them even if he’s hiding it well so far. They arguing reminds you of your time back on Texas colony with Raferty and the others… Maybe it would be so bad to visit in the future, or at least send a letter. Casval circles back to your earlier point even as conversation begins to get sidetracked by talk between Vivima and Glemy of mobile suits with heat horns, “Felix, these enhanced Zakus would make for powerful suits for veteran pilots.”
>>5620418You smile, glad to be on the same page as your brother; squeezing every last bit of performance out of a machine is really more of his thing than your own, but you often think along similar lines when it comes to flying, “I was thinking of something like that, Cas. The expense would be worth it in the hands of a more capable soldier.”“We could set aside a batch to be modified for such uses as well as guard duty,” Gil proposes, turning away from the bickering Zakus and leaving that situation to sort itself out - It just seems to be the personalities of the pilots, but if they’re good enough to land this kind of assignment they must be good enough for higher ups to tolerate some… eccentricities.Last vote for this scene.>”...Vivima, do you think we should wait to pursue this?” She’s been gunning hard for standardization, but a single enhanced type for guarding Zeon’s most important leaders and for veteran pilots isn’t too much of a diversion, is it? >”Dozle, could that be managed within the budget?” It’s intriguing, but your step-father is the one with the authority to actually see it through; you’re not there yet.>”...A royal guard paint scheme on normal Zakus should be sufficient for now, a specialized type can come later.” …Or never. He can also ask Vivima how she feels about it, this would be one of the first specialized versions (potentially) accepted into service and it might not line up with how she's been trying to organize things.Felix will likely be able to use the royal guard mobile suits either way, he's a pilot and a guard is very unlikely to do more than briefly question his request if he asked to fly it. Felix having a personal mobile suit is likely a post-academy thing, but getting access to a MS isn't that difficult if he really pushes it during certain times.

“Dozle, could that be managed within the budget?” You ask your step-father, unsure of the cost of such a project or just what kind of restraints the military is working under currently - Zeon’s financial and industrial strength are well known to you, at least in the broad strokes thanks to Vivima’s project, but the specifics of the current military budget are shrouded in secrecy.“A special class of mobile suits to honor the men who died to protect my new wife and family?” Dozle clenches a single huge fist, holding it up to his chest and standing straighter, “I will make it so! Gil, we will discuss this later.” “Of course, Colonel Dozle. I’ll have my people prepare design proposals, we should be able to produce a pair of units…” Gil slows for a moment, leaning over to allow for one of his engineers to say something quietly to him, impossible to hear over Mash and Ortega’s voices continuing to fill the air as the two pilots show off, twirling about a pair of heat hawks, “...In two weeks.” “That’s a fast turn around.” Your brother notes with a slight narrowing of his blue eyes, “I hope you’re not exaggerating your company's capabilities.”…You can’t help agree with Casval, two weeks does seem like an awfully fast turn around for a new design, even if is just a modification of the Zaku… but they’re in the midst of a period of redesign for large parts of it already, maybe most of the work has already been done.
>>56207877:15, 15th January UC 0076Zeonic Corporation New Factory A, Side Three (Republic of Zeon)“Good morning, master.” A sweet, gentle voice drifts through the air, dream-like and distant… Reluctantly you lift your head from the silken softness of your beds pillows, blinking wearily a few times as you try to clear your blurry vision. Minks smiling face slowly comes into view, blurring outlines fading away along with the last vestiges of a dream you can’t remember… It was nice, whatever it was.“Good morning, Mink.” You greet your assistant pleasantly, rays of morning light shining through the windows and catching along her dark hair, “...You’ve let me sleep in again. I’ll get soft if I keep this up.”“Doctor’s orders.” She makes a little face at you, sticking her tongue out just the slightest bit; there's only one person she could be referencing, the actual doctors long gone by now outside of brief check-ups every week.“Artesia isn’t a doctor yet, Mink.” You point out - this is hardly the first time you’ve been through this song and dance with Mink.“Of course not, master, but she’s right that you need your rest.” Mink counters, “And you’ve always been a softie. I have breakfast and the day’s affairs in order for you, as well as your assignment from the academy. They’re waiting on the table.” “Thank you, Mink…” You slide out of bed and walk over to your table, a delicious if rather simple meal of biscuits, gravy, and bacon waiting for you - It’s not healthy in the slightest, and rather simple by the palaces standards but it does remind you of simple days back on Texas colony… and it smells heavenly. “I don’t know how you manage all of this so quickly every day. You cooked this too, didn’t you?”“I did, my mother showed me how when I went home and...” She beams proudly, but after half a moment of look of doubt takes her, “...You do like it, right?”“Well, let’s see. If you can’t make biscuits I might have to send you away,” You tease lightly, turning your attention to the food. Grasping one of the biscuits you press at it lightly, finding it to be wonderfully crumbly, just the right degree of firmness to allow for dipping but easily soft enough just break up and eat with the gravy if you’d like… A rumble escapes your stomach, the aroma of the hearty meal causing your mouth to water. The first bite reveals the truth…
>>5620796You make an embarrassing noise as you savor the flavor of it; this is exactly like your old meals, or better even, and you’ve missed it… It reminds you of home, even if you only spent a few years on Texas colony. Where even is home for you? Zum feels more and more like it with your family around, but it’s a vague feeling, and home certainly isn’t this palace… Could it be? No, don’t be ridiculous.“...Mm, it’s… it’s amazing.” You finally manage to say after downing another bite, taken away from the worries of the world for just a moment - This meal isn’t good, it is dangerously good. Mink suppresses a giggling laugh, or at least pretends to do so - It doesn’t bother you one bit, and an easy smile spreads across your face. This is nice. “What do we have today, Mink?” You ask your assistant once she finally ceases those fits of happy giggling, “Another proposal from some family I’ve never heard of?” “No, master, I burned up all of those last night with a flamethrower,” Mink answers at once, leaning over to gently slide a few stacks of papers into your view on the table, “Only two matters of, uhm, importance today, but if you wish to see the full stack I could retrieve a wheelbarrow to move the re-” “It’s quite alright, Mink, I trust your judgment, and your work with incendiaries…” You cast your gaze down at the pair of folded letters, “What are these two then?” “An invitation from the federation ambassador to Zeon, there’s a ball to be held at the embassy in a few weeks, right before you’re scheduled to go back to the academy. I believe that Kycilia will be attending as well, it sounded important. “...I hate to say it, but the embassy sounds more important. Politics of that caliber aren’t wise to ignore.” You sigh, mood dampened somewhat by the prospect of a night spent rubbing elbows with whoever it is that attends such a ball - If Kycilia is going it must be a real den of espionage and intrigue, whether they’re politicians or not.“I suppose so, master…” Mink agrees with something like reluctance, but she gives the matter no more attention, “How is your leg feeling today?” “Better.” You reply, reaching down to feel gingerly at the wound beneath thin clothes, “In a few weeks I might even be able to manage some light dancing. Just in time, isn’t it?” “You’ll be back on the floor before you know it, Felix.” Mink’s voice softens as she uses your name, a rarity for her now despite your occasional insistence that she stop calling you ‘master’, “I miss practicing with you… Nevermind that though. I’m sure you’ll have all kinds of requests to dance while you’re at this ball.”You take a drink of water before turning to look at her, “Hmm? Oh, I suppose so. I was expecting stuffy old politicians and their wives, not much more.”Mink shrugs cutely, “Yes, but also their daughters. It’s a proper and upright social event for proper and upright people, or… something like that. Gihren would go on about it sometimes.” “...Really, Gihren? I wouldn’t take him for that type.” He's certainly and arrogant and elitist dickhead, but he's always struck you as the kind of man who sees himself above the particulars of such things.“Mm, I suppose he just used it as an excuse to complain about earthnoids, it’s his hobby I think. He’s very fond of it.”You almost cough on your next drink of water, the idea that complaining about earthnoids is just Gihren’s hobby strikes you as deeply amusing, “...Uh ha, yeah, he does go on about it, doesn’t he? You might be right about the distraction…”>”You could go with me, Mink.” She’s been to events like this before, helping run them even as part of the palace staff - Besides cutting down on the number of women bothering you she might provide some useful insights.>”I’ll invite Elena, I want to keep her out of the spotlight for her sake but this sounds fairly private… for a state event at least. Just in time to miss voting for Mink. Damn. Elena's fine but Mink deserves to get a dance again after everything.
“I’ll invite Elena. I do want to keep her out of the spotlight, for her sake, but this sounds private… for a state event anyways.” You think aloud, finding it easier to organize your thoughts whenever you speak with Mink. It’s never been any trouble to bounce ideas off others, but she’s a better listener than most… years of unfortunate practice, you suppose, but that’s at an end now, “There won’t be cameras there, right?”“Absolutely not, master. These events are always closed off to the press, if someone brings a camera it’s just for good memories or…” Mink trails off and just gives you a tired, knowing look. “Or they’re a spy. Sounds about right.” You nod, eating one of the delicious strips of bacon she prepared; you stop and eat another, the food demanding your attention once more. A man doesn’t pass up bacon like this, it simply isn’t done. After washing it down with another drink of water you look back to Mink, an important question on your mind, “You sent my other request along to Elena yesterday, didn’t you?”You sent her out into the city to a get a message to Elena, she’ll be hand delivering her copies of the federation secret documents to Zeonic - It’s awfully handy that she has a smuggling converted freighter, it disappears right into normal civilian traffic, especially at a very busy industrial spaceport.“Yes! We had a lovely conversation too - You really should call her, you know? The delay to Luna isn’t so bad, and going out is much more fun than I thought it would be too, I just walked around for hours and watched all the people.” Mink smiles sweetly, but her words cut into you deeply - She’s been stuck in the palace since the purges, even walking around in public must be an event for her. It’s almost like Tryphosa in some ways, but you know how it feels to live trapped in a cage as well… It seems to be a common experience.“Artesia and I would go do that sometimes on Texas colony, we’d sit around at this café near the spaceport and watch the arrivals. There were always all sorts coming and going.” You recall the memories fondly, the hustle and bustle of the spaceport far more than most might expect for a relative backwater like Texas colony, “I wish we’d gone more.”The baroque interior of the palace might be beautiful to an outsider’s first viewing, and this simpler room you’ve moved into has some charm - the windows especially - but you do miss the lodge… and the Villa… Even your old mansion, though it grows blurrier in your memory every day.
>>5621877“You could go back and visit. I’d like to see Texas too, cacti seem so... prickly, they're neat!” Mink suggests, placing a finger to her lips as she ponders the idea further, though it's clear at once that she's never been on the wrong end of a prickly pear patch - very few think of those damned things fondly - “...Hmm, probably in disguise though, fighting off paparazzi wouldn’t be very wild west unless you used those pistols of yours… a little black hair dye and a cowboy hat and I bet you’ll blend right back in!” >”Visiting again might be nice, maybe I’ll take a day off in the summer.”>”I’m sure I would, but it’s not going anywhere. “Visiting again might be nice, maybe I’ll take a day off in the summer.” You say, pondering over the idea for a moment longer, thinking of what Teabolo did for your family - Even if you've never seen him as a father like Artesia did, Teabolo is certainly a valued friend. It would only be right to see him again. Perhaps Artesia could go with you… and maybe Char? Surely he’ll be going to visit his parents at some point.“I’ll need to get one of those big hats and some boots then…” Mink mutters mostly to herself, sounding quite serious as she thinks aloud, “Oh, and there will be horses everywhere too, won’t there be?”You nod, “...This isn’t just an excuse to get me to teach you how to ride a horse or something, is it Mink? We have plenty in the stables here.”“We do, master, but taking care of them was never my duty. I’ve barely gotten to brush them, and I only rode once but it was so much fun… I did it some when I was little, but it’s been years..” Mink explains, her tone turning more playful by the end, “...And it’s not just an excuse. …Would you teach me?”“You’ll need to know how to get around on Texas, of course I’ll show you how - the basics don’t take long to learn. I’m sure you’ll remember most of it quickly.” You agree, taking another sip of your water before continuing, just about ready to refocus your attention on the delicious meal rather than further conversation, “They’re wonderful animals if you treat them well, and most on Texas are well trained. It’s a good place to learn.”Mink beams at the offer, violet eyes sparkling and gloved hands clasped together by her chest - she even does an excited little spin, long dark skirt sent twirling slightly, “Oh, you’re the best!”“I’ll warn you now though, longer rides can leave you pretty sore the first few times, it can be rough if you aren’t prepared for it.” You say very seriously, thinking back to how rough it was on your thighs that first time all those years ago - As you learned to ride better it quickly vanished as an issue.“Oh, don’t be silly, I’m not afraid of a hard ride, I like it rough!” Minks balls her fists in a silly pose, puffing her chest out and trying to look tough; it succeeds only at causing you to cough again on your water, her claim turning your face the faintest tinge of red, “...What’s so funny, master?”
>>562284418:05, 5th February UC 0076Federation Embassy, Zum City, Side Three (Republic of Zeon)The last few weeks have seen your recovery go by swifty, and once again you’re able to move more or less comfortably under your own power; even with physical therapy and the medicines given to you by the doctors meant to stave off muscle loss and spur regeneration you’ve still grown somewhat weaker - When you get back to the academy that will sort itself out quickly, but it is a setback. Currently you’re within the grand hall of the Federation’s quite stately embassy. The interior is fitting for such a building, high arched ceilings and fine decorations, but it still strikes you as quite plain in comparison to even the more modest mansions of Zum city, let alone the Zabi palace. It’s simply the work of a different culture, but just as serviceable for such a gathering of the politically connected and powerful. Politicians of all sorts mingling among one another under the warm light of the candelabras hanging high over head, old men in suits discussing every type of business and endeavor imaginable… Elena is at your side, one arm looped about yours and looking stunning in a long green dress. She’s keeping you quite close, very wary of the stares many of the young women present tonight are casting in your direction. You’re a “sweet couple,” “adorable,” and any other of dozens of compliments they could think of.Kycilia is… Somewhere. This is probably a good time to think about what Felix's goals in the short and medium term are. Does he want to build up a powerful inner circle of officers and form a military clique pushing certain doctrines and plans, or create a cult of personality akin to Gihren's (or more charitably, Zeon himself), or what? Throwing some ideas around would be good. Obviously all of this has a long term goal of "Kill Zabis, free (neo?)Zeon, achieve true Contolism" but there are hundreds of steps between where he's at now and being a (ceremonial?) space co-emperor with Casval or however you're planning to end this.
>>5623080I'm thinking something in between those extremes. The medium term vision is asserting himself (and by extension, his siblings) as a new (but also old) party in Zeon, separate from Kycilia and Gihren. To this end we need both hard and soft power, both military and civilian assets. Officers, industrialists, media magnates, members of the civilian bureaucracy, and even Federation connections will all help the Deikun-Zabi clique in manipulating Zeon.
>>5623080Try to get Contolism that is different from Gihren's to spread. And for that, we need to make connections.
>>5623080I'd assume that a cultre of personality with a strong officer circle would be the key thing. or harem of super elites.
>>5623080This is gonna be a mix of serious plan, jokes, and "out of character/meta" stuffShort Term>Meet Doan>Poach at least some of Midnight Fenrir to Dozle's Faction>Generally strengthen Dozle's Faction. His faction had TWO Zabis in it, and one was THE martyr. Its absurd how weak they were compared to Gihren's and Kycillia's.>MOBILE ARMORS>Get more allies in the industrial sectors, especially in Zeonic. If we can get them to be pro-Deikun-Zabi instead of just pro-Zabi, the possible civil war against Gihren will go much smoother.>See if we can fully awaken Tiff, and see if any of our other friends have Newtype potential. I can see Blare having some, based off of how clingy Tiff is and how observant he is.>Sow the seeds of Anti-Gihren and Anti-Kycillia sentiment amongst the people of Zeon>Gain more allies in the other colonies. Riah allying with us will already be a massive boon during the war, but more friends is always good, especially when you're as small as Zeon is.Medium Term>Marry Elena>Convince Garma to take Artesia's last name when they get married>Prevent, or otherwise lessen, the Colony Drop.>If the Colony Drop succeeds, use it to totally ruin Gihren's reputation. Doing a big denouncement speech would be a bad idea, we should instead leak that it was by his orders. Maybe reveal that he used g3, too?>Get Cas in a proper High-Mobility Suit. He could probably push a Dom to go faster than the speed of sound, even in-atmo>Sabotage the Federation's ability to produce mobile suits.>Fully take Luna. If failing that, get universal trade rights from the cities we don't take to starve the Federation of Luna Titanium.and of course>MASS PRODUCE BIG ZAM.>IF WE DO THAT, THE FEDERATION IS FINISHED
>>5623080>Short term goalsFuck Elena>Medium term goalsMarry ElenaI'll even throw in >Long term goalsHave a family with Elena
>>5623227It's astonishing how little of this I agree with
>>5623265I agreed with the part about marrying Elena
>>5623269God, this is what the children of Deikun are reduced to. Cavorting with earthnoids and Zabis....
I like Elena. She's from Earth just like me!
>>5623080I think the best to focusing on creating a powerful clique of officers is best for our short and medium term plans due to the covert nature of our long term goal of killing the zabis. I also think it is important to make friends everywhere we can as a short term goal and to build a strong reputation of being honorable and anti corruption as a medium term goal. This way we can make more allies and turn public opinion when it comes time to work on them.
“Ah, Felix Deikun, at last. I’ve been looking forward to meeting you, I’m glad you chose to honor us with your presence tonight.” The slick haired ambassador greets you, extending a hand toward you. He has a weaker grip than you’re used to, and something about his touch causes your skin to crawl, an odd chill running up your arm; even still, you force a smile and play the part of a charming figurehead.“Ambassador Kreek, it’s a pleasure.” You lie, locking eyes with the thin faced man and flashing a fake smile to match his own - everyone here is just putting on a show, a glitzy party for the elite of two nations drifting rapidly apart. The existence of an ambassador at all is an acknowledgement of that. Originally meant to appease the independence factions of the Sides, the Federations decision to appoint ambassadors to what are technically just autonomous regions has proven a political disaster for them, only spurring on further dreams of independence. These days Kreek truly is an ambassador, the position transformed from a joke by Zeon’s steady march to freedom. Zeon is the sole master of its territory in many regards now, and only the most draconian and non-negotiable of the Federations controls still exist in most sectors; heavy taxation, a few harsh trade controls that favor the companies of Earth and Luna, and lingering but vital control over aspects of the military and police - And of course the ‘garrison’ forces, a gun to the head of anyone speaking openly for independence. The fear of stricter control being reinstated is ever present.“And who is this lovely young lady with you?” Kreek asks, his gaze shifting over to Elena, a crooked smile spreading across his gaunt features, “I don’t believe we’ve met.”“Elena.” She introduces herself simply, putting on a smile even more fake than your own; to any but the most discerning eye it would appear quite genuine, but you know her too well to ever believe that.“You two are?...” Kreek leaves the question hanging, that crooked smile of his lingering on.
>>5623435“We’re together.” You confirm; Elena’s hand slips into yours as you speak, and she gives you a little squeeze. …You love her so much it hurts sometimes, having her here might come with risks but its more reassuring than a company of mobile suits.“I am General Revil,” the gray bearded officer next to Kreek introduces himself, and you let go of Elena’s hand to shake his; it’s a much firmer grip, he still has strength despite his age, “...Or I suppose Admiral now. I hope you’ll excuse the slip, it’s taken some getting used to again.”You greet him politely as well, as does Elena, but soon she’s asking a question of the admiral, “You’ve changed between branches before?”“Once before, but I hope to see out the rest of my years in the space forces.” Revil replies quite pleasantly, his personality utterly at odds with Kreek’s - At once you find yourself liking the man, but it’s difficult to explain precisely why.“He’s to be appointed head of the space forces before the year is out.” Kreek explains, “You’ll be the most powerful man in the earth sphere soon, Revil.” “It is a heavy responsibility, but I will hardly be the most powerful, Kreek. The fleet is ultimately at the command of the government, I will simply be leading it to the best of my ability.”“Simply? Ha! Listen to him.” Kreek’s smile widens, almost ghoulish, “But our fleet is the most powerful to ever exist, is it not?”>”Powerful perhaps, but they do little for us. It would be better if it were all freighters. Preparing for peace instead of war would see the people of Earth and the Sides flourish.”>”One of the greatest in history… so far.” >”It is a mighty fleet, and yet it has no enemies to fight - It might cause a person to wonder what it’s all for.”>Write-in.

It’s clear Kreek is testing you, but this is an opportunity to distance yourself from the likes of Gihren, at least in the minds of a few of the powerful if not the Zabis, and you’re not going to miss a chance to express your real beliefs, “Powerful perhaps, but they do little for us. It would be better if it were all freighters. Preparing for peace instead of war would see the people of Earth and the sides flourish.”“Mm, I suppose next you’ll say we could use all of those freighters to move to space as well? Haha, well I’m already here - You remind me of your father.” Kreek’s laugh is grating, wearing on you as soon as you hear it. There’s no way this man was appointed for his charisma or charm, he must be someone’s cousin or something.“A wish for peace is a very noble thing, Felix Deikun, but we do live in troubled times.” Revil says, his voice carrying something of the same weariness you’ve heard in Ebs sometimes - Now that you think about it they’ve probably met more than a few times, Eb is a bit older and retired at a lower rank but there must have been some overlap. Revil doesn’t seem weak though, far, far from it; there’s something strange in the air about him, a faint… pressure…Could it be? It’s faint, very faint, but there is something invisible hanging about the man, an aura of some kind. It’s much weaker than Tiff’s, but the keenness of your senses does vary from day to day quite a lot; undeniably there is some glimmer of potential.“We do indeed, Admiral, as I’ve seen a few times myself.” You pat at your pant leg lightly, the presence of the wound still faintly felt even after many weeks of recovery, “Security forces of course have their uses, but I’d prefer to eliminate the causes that drive men to such violence.”“So says one of the pistol wielding heroes of the attack. You and your new family certainly gave those gunmen more than they expected, didn’t you?” Kreek takes a sip of his wine glass, held loosely in the thing fingers of his gaunt hand; there’s something about him that reminds you of a rat, but perhaps it’s just his face and that ugly smile of his, “Well, you certainly don’t lack for flexibility when circumstances call for it.”
>>5624394Elena feigns a distressed look, playing up whatever discomfort she might actually be feeling and taking half a step closer to you, “...It was truly awful.”Revil’s stern face shifts a shade friendlier, more sympathetic, but his vision soon looks beyond Elena’s sad expression and out into the rest of the crowd of politicians within the Embassy’s grand hall, “It was a despicable thing… Kreek, Kycilia Zabi is just over there, you were looking for her, weren’t you?”“I was indeed.” Kreek’s eyes light up, widening just a little as he follows Revil’s gaze past you, and soon he’s heading off that way - You don’t bother turning to look yourself; in these circumstances, very strangely, Kycilia is somewhat on your side - It’s Zeon against the Federation here, at least on the level of interaction a corrupt moron like Kreek can manage. You won’t miss his presence. “There, he’s gone.” A very thing smile spreads across Revil’s face, his well groomed gray beard shifting slightly, “Apologies about Kreek, he has no sense of decorum.”“Odd how men like him end up in these positions, but it’s hardly going to be the last time I see that, is it?” You ask the older man, and Revil gives a small nod.“They tend to flock around ceremonial positions, cousins and sons and old friends from school - It’s tiring.” He sighs, taking a drink of his own wine. A member of the staff passes by with a tray of drinks you take one yourself - Elena declines.>”Some things are universal then. I try to earn my positions as best I can, and encourage others to do so. A name isn’t worth much without talent behind it.” >”...I’m thankful for living out of the public eye for years, sometimes I worry I might have ended up like one of them.” …Mostly true. Of course you wish things were never taken from you, but you might’ve ended up like Garma if you’d remained the center of public adoration your whole childhood.>”There’s corruption everywhere, but it can be cleaned out with the right efforts. “...I’m thankful for living out of the public eye for a year, sometimes I worry I might have ended up like one of them.” You say, though concerns about being corrupted in other ways still nag at you constantly.“Privacy does come with its benefits, and you don’t strike me as the type.” Revil nods, looking you over carefully, taking your measure with a well practiced eye, “You’re one of the cadets from Guardian academy. How has that been?”“It’s the best academy in the Sides, sir.” You respond respectfully, a small smile playing across your face - A real one now, “I completed my required degree for a commission a few years ago, but it’s quality training and my classmates are the best around.” “A few years ago? You’re… seventeen, aren’t you?” Revil questions.“Yes, sir.” You reply, looking to Elena for a moment. There’s something unusually beautiful about her tonight, a wonderful glow to her pale skin. “Elena’s been on the same track as well, we were working on our degrees years ago.” “I’ll have my masters at the end of the spring.” Elena replies pleasantly, keeping the specifics of her studies vague. From where you first met her helping out at the refugee camp she’s come so very far, she was bright even then and easily doing jobs well beyond her years, but Elena really is an impressive young woman… And absolutely relentless; she’s always onto something, and other than when she’s with you it seems as if she’s always learning something new, never resting or relaxing - Even her interest in art is pursued with vigor. “Quite the achievement, congratulations. It is ancient history now, but I had mine fairly young as well, I know the demands it can place on a person.” Revil sounds to almost be commiserating, though of course his own academic stresses are many decades in the past, “If it’s not too prying, where are you from, Miss Elena?”“Earth.” She answers, “...That’s the past now, but I’ll never forget it.”“Ah, Earth…” Revil looks you both over again, far more carefully, his shoulders relaxing a little - What is that he’s thinking? “Fascinating. Well, you both seem very promising and capable. A far cry from… Many others who are present tonight.”“There’s corruption everywhere.” You agree, settling back into the earlier topic, “But it can be cleaned out with the right efforts. …The fleet review is in a month, isn’t it?”
>>5624959“Indeed. It’s always a great effort to get it all assembled, but keeping readiness high is vital to any force… It could be a leaner and more efficient force.” Revil says, reading a bit into your words and showing a willingness to discuss the subject which you wouldn't have expected from a potential enemy, “I expect it will be the main struggle of my tenure as the head of the EFSF. Incompetence has led to too many tragedies.” “...Indeed.” You echo the aged man, a number of military accidents and collisions coming easily to mind - Federation ships are notoriously disrespectful of colony traffic controls, nearly barging their way into spaceports; the consequences are disastrous sometimes. “Politicians can create quite the barrier to those efforts, but it’s an excellent goal. Everyone will be better off for it.”Fewer Spacenoids dead in idiotic accidents is certainly a good thing, but a more competent fleet is quite bad news militarily if Revil is successful in what sound to be deep reforms… Knowing the Federation he won’t be able to take it nearly far enough though, everything there always dies in some committee or the other.“Mm, it sounds as if you understand.” Revil agrees, carefully avoiding speaking ill of the politicians himself despite his clear disdain for such corruption, “Tense times such as these need fewer potential sparks, not more. There have been many mistakes in the past. I can’t say I completely disagree with what you said earlier - A larger merchant marine would benefit us all, they might resolve these issues we’ve faced more adeptly than any cruiser.”…Well, that’s an olive branch if you’ve ever seen one.>”...I didn’t expect a man in your position to share that view. I’m sure we do have disagreements elsewhere, but it’s reassuring that common ground exists.” It’s the truth and said openly.>”...Very interesting. I’ll keep that in mind, Revil.” He’ll still understand. A more reasonable head of the Federation fleet could be a boon or bane in the future.>”Now I just need you to agree to use them to move people to new colonies and maybe we’ll have peace in our time.” …Of course it’s not possible, and it’s almost a dark joke in some ways, but it doesn’t seem like he wants war anymore than you or Elena do.>Write-in.

“...I didn’t expect a man in your position to share that view as well.” You respond, truly surprised that the soon-to-be head of the entire EFSF would say such a thing at all, “I’m sure we have disagreements elsewhere, but it’s reassuring that common ground exists.” “Many are determined to chip away at what’s left.” Revil replies solemnly, alluding to the shadow of a war that all expect on some level but most still deny the possibility of, an inevitable tragedy that only a few can see clearly, “But it does still exist, here and there.”“Now I just need you to agree to use them to move people to new colonies and maybe we’ll have peace in our time.” You half joke, but all present know it to be impossible; even if a man like Revil did agree, which he probably wouldn’t, there would be a thousand others springing up to oppose any idea. Even as some are still looking for peace all they find is their own allies stopping them from attaining it; the madness of what the earth sphere has locked itself into doesn’t escape you. You’re a part of it now, no longer just an outside observer, and yet your influence is still miniscule… That might change, but there’s so much momentum to it all.“Were it so easy.” Revil takes another sip of his wine, summing up your inner thoughts with a handful of words, “ …You’re of a more peaceful mind than the rest of your family, aren’t you, Felix?”“Perhaps not, but I’ve been accused of it before.” You answer, an image of your sister floating across your mind’s eye; Artesia is the most peaceful of you, perhaps now more than.“He’s only ever defended himself or others, I’ve never once seen him strike first.” Elena vouches for you, emerald eyes settling on you with an intense adoration; even now it still sends your heart pounding when she gets like this, “Rushes right into the thick of a fight and makes sure others make it out.”“A peacekeeper then, even better.” Revil looks to Elena, his smile returning for a moment, “And one building a greater life already… Felix Deikun, Elena, I wish you both the best in whatever is to come. I have other business to see to tonight, but it has been a pleasure to meet the both of you.”
>>5625264“...And the best of luck to you as well.” You wish the old admiral well as he departs politely, and soon he is heading off toward a number of Zeon defense force officers gathered about a table across the great hall. You’re left standing beside Elena, drink in hand, wondering what exactly to make of what was said. “What do you think he meant about a ‘greater life’?...” You ask Elena, Revil’s comment having sounded strange to your ears, “We do make a great couple, but some of those women earlier were saying similar things…” “...They all must have noticed somehow, even though it’s only been… Well, that Revil has a very sharp eye.” Elena says quietly, mostly to herself, before closing her emerald eyes for a moment and letting out a deep breath. She looks around to ensure that you’re both alone - A few old men are loudly discussing a trip to Dakar within earshot, but otherwise the party is largely a buzz of background noise, “I’ll always come when you need me, Max, but I had to be here tonight to speak with you in person.”“You can tell me anything, Elena.” You comfort her, taking one of her slender hands in your own and giving it a gentle squeeze.“I know, and…” A gorgeous smile spreads across her face, and for just a moment everything is right in the world, “...And I know you love me. I love you more than I can ever say…”“What is it then?” You ask, smiling in return and almost laughing, just seeing her like this can be enough to get you in a mood to laugh at times; it’s a simple and pure joy.“...I’m pregnant.”>”...We’re going to have a baby?” …You’re happy, but this is a very big deal and not just personally, there are political implications as well, and terrible risks for the child with the Zabis about… Well, some of the Zabis anyways. “...We’re going to have a baby?...” The words slip from your mouth, shock and an upwelling of excitement mixing together - you never would have expected it, but there’s not a single thing Elena could have said that would make you happier at this moment, “We’re going to have a baby! I’m going to be a father!”You glance down to Elena’s belly for just a moment; her dress does well to hide it, but there’s the faintest swell there already. What is this feeling taking hold of you? Setting your drink aside, you gently pull Elena closer and into a passionate kiss, one hand running through her lustrous red hair. She’s loyal, intelligent, and beautiful, and she’ll be the mother of your children… What wonderful turns life takes sometimes, there is still so much joy to be found in the world.A long moment passes before your lips part, and Elena’s smile very nearly draws you back in again. She stifles a happy laugh with one hand, glancing out to the others at the party - A few are watching but quickly pretend not to be, ducking back into their own conversation. Hopefully no one heard what you said, it's hard even for you to pick up other conversations. “This is incredible, Elena.” You say even more quietly. You didn’t quite shout earlier, but she’s right to be wary, “...So the party at the academy, when we went back to your ship?...”She nods, cheeks flush and aglow, “It couldn’t have been anything else. I wasn’t sure until a month ago, and I just… It didn’t seem right to say yet. I hate being apart, Max, I would have told you sooner but there wasn’t a chance and you were so focused on recovering, I didn’t want to rattle you.”
>>5625835“You could have told me.” You reply - It’s not a condemnation, you appreciate her care, but you would have been just as happy to hear the news in a hospital bed, “But that’s behind us. I love you, Elena, and… And you.” It feels a bit silly to say, but you look down to her belly and smile as you speak the words - Maybe it’s mushy nonsense so early along, but it feels right. You’re going to be a father…“I love you too.” Elena answers softly, echoing your sentiment and looking down for just a moment, “Both of you. We’re going to have to be very careful, Max.”And just like that you’re slowly reeled back into reality, “...We will be, of course we will be. This changes everything, Elena.”>”...Are you going to stay on Luna?” There are many questions to figure out, but there’s not much time here. Making your way through the party, you and Elena head toward Senator Cato of Riah, a tall and relatively young man with an auspicious name. Only time will tell if he can manage to live up to the legend of his ancient namesake, but likely not, he is aligning with Gihren after all… Of course to an outside observer you would appear to be doing the same as well, so perhaps there may be more going on.It doesn’t take long to get his attention, simply walking nearby is enough for him to call you over - Whatever else he might be, he’s an impressive speaker, carrying a far deeper voice than you’d expect from a man of his build. He’s not lacking in height, a good few inches above you, but he’s thin as a whippet; it suits the young senator far better than Kreek’s unnerving gauntness does for the ambassador.“Felix Deikun-Zabi and his lady, Elena,” He greets you both in a polite tone, quite well informed or an ambitious gossip if he already knows Elena’s name, “I am Senator Cato of Riah - I was wondering if you’d make it around this way or if I’d need to go hunting you both down myself.” “No need for such a pursuit tonight, senator.” You joke after both you and Elena acknowledge the senator, keeping things light for now, “I’d make for poor sport with my leg as it is.”“Perhaps so.” He chuckles, thin lines appearing about his green eyes. Cato’s dark and closely shorn hair gives him an almost military look, and he carries himself with the easy confidence of a man who’s never been without power of some kind, “You’re a cadet at Guardian academy, aren’t you?”Of course, it always comes back to the academy with these people; they all try to be personable but none knows a thing about you other than your name and attendance at a military academy. “He is, and a top cadet as well.” Elena brags, one arm looped in yours and tugging you just ever so slightly closer.
>>5626040“So I’ve heard.” Cato replies, waving off a few of his hangers on who were lingering about nearby, creating a somewhat more private setting in which to speak, “Something of a pilot as well, and with quite a penchant for showing up in unusual places at the right time - How is Von Braun these days? My niece asked me to extend thanks on her behalf, to the both of you.”Ah, so he’s very well informed. Gihren must’ve talked about it, or perhaps even Kycilia shared the story. You did incidentally save a number of diplomats from Riah, letting out some of the details of the real story behind the mysterious appearance of a fighter would make some sense.“As beautiful as ever.” Elena replies, “Your niece was?...”“With my brother-in-law at the time of the crisis, yes, they were both on the shuttle. But that’s enough of that here, isn’t it? Tell me, have you flown a mobile suit, Felix?”“A mobile suit? No, not yet, but I’m looking forward to it.”“A shame.” Cato frowns slightly, “You’ve seen more of them then just… In December though, haven’t you? No one’s going to forget that entrance soon. I’ve been interested in procuring a handful for testing in our defense forces. Some of those Federation officers over there have told me they’re nothing but toys, but I don’t buy that for a moment.”>”I don’t believe they’re available for export currently, even just for study… Has Riah’s senate agreed to the treaty yet?” You know they haven’t, but it's what Gihren was pushing in December. Cato might have a better feel for if it’s likely to happen or not.>”I’d love to share them with another Side, especially Riah, but it’s far beyond my authority. “...That’s a very serious request, senator.” You answer, the request coming with all kinds of security risks around the technology of mobile suits, especially their ultracompact fusion reactors and fluid pulse systems, “I could arrange a meeting with my step-father to discuss it further; an alliance would suit us all, I’m willing to make the effort.” “I am as well, Riah and Zeon would be strong by one another's side, but not all see things as we do.” Cato motions vaguely to the teeming crowd of politicians and ultra-elite mingling throughout the great hall, “Look around and take your pick of any of them, your own people excluded.”“It’s a sentiment I hope to see shared more widely in the other Sides soon enough - Why the interest in mobile suits specifically?” You question, curious about whether his interest in the machines is really just military in nature. “Ah, you must be kept from most of it then. Mobile suits have become something of a symbol of liberation after their landing at Zeon’s diet building. It was grisly, but the sight of those Zakus crushing the opponents of Spacenoid freedom has become evocative for many. Your family's reemergence into politics was fortuitous, the neutrals in our senate nearly had enough votes to shut our alliance down, but I believe we’ll see the treaty through. Resistance to it should evaporate after that, it always does.” Cato explains, holding up his glass toward the end almost in a toast, “‘Zeon fractured no more,’ I believe that was the headline.” “That’s where the opposition was coming from? Zeon’s disunity?” Elena questions with just a hint of disbelief, “I would’ve expected the Federation’s navy might have more to do with it.”Cato smirks, and for half a moment it nearly reminds you of Casval, “That as well, but I’ll be direct. There was concern for years that Zeon was built on shaky foundations, just waiting for a civil war to erupt or for a coup to take the Zabis - Gihren’s always insisted otherwise, and he’s popular enough with the people to make it believable, but it was always too self serving to take at face value. Many of the neutrals weren’t opposed to the idea of a united front against the Federation, they just don’t wish to… stir something up and lose.”“Sensible, but cowardly. The right thing doesn’t change just because you’re likely to lose.” You reply, the faint voice of Izumi shouting at you from somewhere far off in the ether. You’ve never been one to shy from your true beliefs - Hiding them until the time is right isn’t the same as just hiding, right? “I’ve always thought so,” Cato agrees, taking a sip of his red wine, “but victory undeniably has a sweeter taste to it, does it not? Most of them are on board now.”
>>5626626“If you’re looking for a few mobile suits to send a political message, would loaning a few and some pilots for a military parade suffice?” Elena suggests sensibly. It would avoid concerns of technology leaking and still prove a powerful symbol, “Felix, that would be possible, wouldn’t it?”You nod, “And likely easier to come to an agreement over.”Cato shrugs, not looking terribly bothered by the less dramatic proposal, “It would help, but securing even a few of our own would be better. I won’t let perfect be the enemy of good enough, but we can save that for my meeting with your step-father - Do we have an agreement?”“It’s the fate of our nation’s to align, for all of the Sides to align. I’ll see it done.”“Excellent, you have my thanks; I’m not a man to forget favors, Felix Deikun.” “…Now that you’re back on your feet, how about a visit to Riah as well?” “A state visit?” You question, watching Cato closely - It’s not an unreasonable proposal, and it would help to spread your image and influence.>”...I’ll consider it.” Stepping in so heavily on Gihren’s territory this early on might raise some eyebrows. “...I’ll consider it.” You reply, weighing the risks in your mind already - Stepping all over Gihren’s territory isn’t something to rush into, but you might be able to convince him it’s in his favor to let you do so. There’s something to be said for keeping him placated as you build influence in Zeon and the wider earth sphere… and perhaps even beyond the earth sphere, your father’s ideas aren’t uncommon among Jovians if Tryphosa is anything to judge by.“Busy schedule?” Cato questions, looking between you and Elena before giving you an easy out, “I’m sure the academy is demanding.”“Quite demanding.” You take the offered chance readily, “My class will be participating in its first large war games this spring.”“And I’m sure you’ll be out there leading the charge.” He takes another drink of his wine before smirking smugly, “Most Federation soldiers are used to facing protestors, not soldiers, I’m sure you’ll sweep the field.”You chuckle very briefly at the dark comment, “Most of them maybe, but they send their elite formations to knock us around - That’s their plan at least, but we’ll be ready.”“All the more embarrassing for them then… If you’ll excuse me, I’ll leave you both to enjoy the party, I’m going to head over there and stir the pot some.”“Oh?” You ask, suddenly quite curious what the young senator is planning to get up to.Cato points briefly across the room toward a tall and imposing Federation officer, a bald man wearing bulky red lensed goggles, “Colonel Om, the one in the goggles. He’s a vicious bastard, but even he won’t start a fight here - It’s a rare chance to gloat.”“Sounds like you’re playing with fire, senator.” Elena warns, but Cato simply shrugs confidently and gives you both a small farewell nod before sauntering over to the cadre of rough looking officers.>Poke around a little more and see if there’s anyone else worth meeting.>See if you can figure out what Kycilia is up to, she’s disappeared from sight again.>Revil and Cato are enough for tonight. >>5626902Respectfully I disagree- the fact is, right now Felix doesn't have any hard power backing his position. There's nothing but public and intra-family backlash stopping Gihren or Kycilia from putting Felix up against a wall. He needs to make moves without overtly subverting the authority of his rivals to too great of a degree.
>>5626915That's fair, yet I think we should at least give the attempt at making ourselves known and establishing a base of support to make the Deikuns appear independent and not just appear like a good puppet. If we become too passive we'll never be able to gain any support from anyone (or worst case scenario any support given to us is linked to getting the Zabi's approval, and all the moves we do only help them get stronger).

As Cato departs you take a look around the rest of the party, not yet ready to just spend the night enjoying yourself with Elena; surely there must still be something productive to be done here. All throughout the grand vaulted room you can see men and women of nearly every position of power imaginable, and quite a few of their retinues. Federation officers, members of Zeon’s diet, the prime minister, a few business magnates more dedicated to currying favors than most…“...One more and then we’ll dance.” You promise Elena, “And after that we’ll be off to that spiked eyesore I live in to give my family the good news.”“The palace really is hideous from the outside, isn’t it?” Elena’s laugh is rich and lovely, “Now that I’ve seen a mobile suit I almost expect the whole palace to get up and walk around at times, it does look like a giant robot’s head, doesn’t it?”You grin, the description is too apt and one you've thought of before a few times. If the palace stood up and started demanding the destruction of all Earthnoids it probably wouldn’t surprise you all that much, “...Maybe from a children’s cartoon, I think I’ve seen Captain Zeon fight something like that before.”Elena raises an eyebrow at that, “Captain Zeon? You… Oh my god, you do watch that, don’t you?”“With Glemy.” You defend weakly; it’s been a guilty pleasure while you’ve been recovering, the plots are usually awful but the animation honestly isn’t the worst and the fights are better than most.“Uh huh.” She gives you a skeptical look, arms folded, “…That’s adorable, Max. You’ve really taken Glemy in, haven’t you?”“He’s my brother.” You shrug a little, it’s just as simple as that now. What isn’t simple however is who to speak with next at this party, you’re a bit swamped for choices but it’s difficult to figure out what’s a waste and where hidden gems of influence might be found.>...That’s a member of the Jovian fleet over there, you’d recognize the uniform anywhere!>There’s a Zeon officer whom you’ve never spoken to before, but there’s something oddly familiar about him. You lean closer to Elena and speak in a low voice, a middle aged man in sunglasses having caught your attention as he moves between other guests gathered across the hall, “...That man over there looks familiar. The one in the sunglasses. Do you see him? Walks like a fighter, but he’s not in uniform…”“I… Do.” It takes Elena a few moments to spot him, she’s fairly perceptive but there are times where things really just click and you’re on a completely different level than anyone you’ve met, “He does look familiar. I can’t place him though.”“Neither can I. Something tells me he’s up to something…” You narrow your eyes as you track the man; he hasn’t noticed you yet, or he’s at least pretending to have not, “Think we should head over?”“Do you even have to ask? I love when you get like this.” She agrees eagerly, clear excitement in her emerald eyes - Locking gazes for a moment a little thrill runs through you; that’s exactly the kind of look that led to your conversation earlier. Pushing those feelings aside, at least for a few more hours, you head off into the crowd with Elena by your side. Taking a slightly curving path across the room, you head toward where you predict this mysterious stranger is going to arrive; it’s impossible to know for sure, but you have a good feeling about it, exactly like when you got the drop on those instructors before your bulldozer stunt with Izumi… And you were right. Stopping suddenly as you turn past a few old men who look dangerously close to senility, you find yourself face to face with…
>>5627423“Jones?” Elena asks before you can get the man’s name out; it’s obvious at once now that you’ve got a clear look at him. It’s been a few years, and he’s further into middle age than before, a lot more gray hair and a few more wrinkles, but it’s unmistakably your old guard.“...I’m afraid you have me confused for someone else, miss.” He answers, beginning to move past both of you; you put a hand on his shoulder, insisting that he halts here but trying not to make a scene of things.“Jones, it’s us.” You say quietly, unsure of why the man isn’t acknowledging you. “...And you haven’t seen me either, Max.” He replies, smirking nearly imperceptibly, but his tone is deadly serious, “I’m here on business.” Elena’s smile elicits a bit more of a reaction from Jones, his expression turning a hair warmer, “I guess I should thank you for letting me into the villa before Max left…. Things have, uhm, worked out since then.”Jones glances between you and then down slightly, still speaking quietly and obviously trying to move things along very quickly, “Good for both of you. That was still the best job I’ve had in years; you’ve been practicing, Max. I saw the fight, what the cameras picked up.”“I learned from one of the best, but it was Elena that kept me alive, she took one of them out with this little mouse gun…. Story for another time. Are you still a bodyguard? Apologies if we’re keeping you from your charge, I didn’t expect to see you here is all.”“...Must be losing my edge. No, I’m more of a troubleshooter these days.”“For the embassy’s security system?” Elena asks curiously, “They hire the best then.”Jones’ smirk grows, “Something like that.”“...Not meant to be out here with the guests?” Elena presses further, looking the older special forces operator over. Jones cleans up well enough for a man his age and blends right in with this kind of crowd. Well, he almost blends in. >”...I can’t believe you were serious about the sunglasses thing… It does work though.” You very nearly didn’t recognize him, and you used to see him practically every day.>”Right then, we didn’t see a thing.” Let Jones on his way, he’s probably got important work to get back to with all these guests here.>”Well, if you’re in the market for another job I’ve been looking for a good bodyguard for awhile now - Didn’t think we’d ever meet again, but I can’t pass up a chance like this, can I?” Nah, hold him up for a bit.>Write-in.

“My family could always use a trusted man.” You say quietly, not wanting to hold him up for too much longer without need, “If you’re interested, I’m sure you know how to get in touch.” “I'll keep the offer in mind.” Jones replies, but his eyes are looking past you and Elena, off toward someone else at the party; you don’t dare turn to look, there’s no need to draw more attention to whatever it is Jones is up to.“...Right then, we didn’t see a thing.” You step out of Jones’ way and carry on with Elena for a little while further, beginning to make your way over to the dance floor.“I never would have expected to see him here.” Elena muses, leaning a little on you, the wonderful scent of her perfume clinging close, “...I remember sneaking back into the villa like it was yesterday. Do you ever think about that anymore?”“Sometimes. It was cute.” You smile, thinking of that fateful intrusion just before you left for Texas colony. If Jones hadn’t let her sneak into your room then… none of this would have happened. Just how many events like that have led you to where you are today? It’s such a tenuous path, it wouldn’t have taken much for things to go wrong.“That’s where I got you, wasn’t it?” Elena teases a little, but it’s a real question as well; when did you fall for her? You’ve been writing letters for years, and then there was your promise to meet at Von Braun and everything that came with it…“...That’s when it started, but I don’t think you had me until Von Braun.” You finally settle on an answer, “But right now I’m more interested in tonight, and our future.” Later that night, back at the palace.“Elena, you’re… pregnant?!” Artesia exclaims in shock, excitement and surprise missing together on her face, blue eyes wide, “Felix!”“Oh, here we go,” You roll your eyes, having expected something like this from her, but it does nothing at all to shrink the smile spread across your face - There’s an energy to all of this which you’ve never felt before, it’s impossible not to be excited, “I know, I know, I should have-”Instead of an interrupting slap you’re wrapped in a tight hug; it’s brief though, Artesia’s soon moved on to Elena, “I’m so happy for both of you - But I also can’t believe you’ve done this, Felix.”“It takes two, Artesia, save it for later.” Casval laughs at your sister’s frustration, not at all bothered by the news and a happy twinkle in his eye, “Congratulations to both of you… How far along are things?” “Two months or so.” Elena answers, parting from Artesia and looking between the three of you with an expression of hesitant joy - Elena can be very brave, and more often than not she is, but you’re well aware of the doubts that grip at her sometimes, especially in more private settings. Family issues especially, she hasn’t been in a good situation for years.
>>5628075Artesia gets a slightly distant look for a moment as she runs the dates through her head, comprehension soon dawning on her, her cheeks turning red for some reason, “Oh! Your mother and Glemy aren’t present yet, but you sent Mink off to gather everyone, “Is your mother here tonight?”At just that moment the door to the room opens suddenly and Dozle barges in, the huge man shouting out in joy, “I am going to be a father!”Your mother follows in soon behind the gigantic Zabi, smiling but her cheeks red in embarrassment; Glemy and Mink aren’t far behind, your loyal assistant shepherding the boy along behind his adoptive parents. “Congratulations!” You shout back at once almost completely on instinct, not thinking through the announcement much at all, “So am I!”Dozle’s sudden entrance comes to a screeching halt, his excited expression turning suddenly to one of confusion, voice rumbling out uncertainty, “What was that, Felix?”“I’m going to be a father too, I, uh, got…” You take half a step closer to your girlfriend, taking her hand in yours, “Well, we sort of…”“Hi.” Elena greets Dozle with a small innocent wave, shrinking slighting under the huge Zabi’s gaze as he looks between the two of you, “...I’m expecting too.”“That’s wonderful, Elena!” Your mother says with a joyful tone, moving further into the room alongside the still very confused looking Dozle, the poor guy is still making sense of everything, “How long have you known?”“Not long,” You repeat the information for what you’re now beginning to realize is probably the just one of the first of many, many times, “She’s about two months along-”“Two months?” Your mother lifts an eyebrow, immediately understanding the implication of the timespan, “...Felix, dear, I know I told you I would be okay with grandchildren but I never expected you’d run off and do it the same night.”“The same night? …The confidence of youth.” Casval remarks from off to the side, suppressing a chuckle and enjoying the scene immensely, arms crossed. His blue eyes soon settle back on Dozle though, and you can feel a brief wave of disgust roll off of him. “...I uh… Well…” You search for the words but they stubbornly refuse to come forth, and the best you can manage is a stuttering mess, caught up in the excitement of the moment and mild embarrassment over just what it is you’ve gone off and done - It isn’t shame, not at all, but the timing is just odd enough to get at you, “I couldn’t… I mean it was in freefall and… I’ll try to be the best father I can… and I-”
>>5628590“You’ll be a great father, Felix, I know in my heart that you will both be the best parents you can be.” Your mother stops you before you can continue to make a total fool of yourself, spilling all kinds of intimate knowledge in a poor attempt to explain what’s happened, “...And Elena, you and I will have much to discuss over the next few months. It’s harder the first time, but I’ve been where you are before.”“...I could use some help.” Elena replies quietly.“Oh ho ho!” Dozle finally settles on a reaction, a jolly enthusiasm, and his deep laugh echoes throughout the room, “I have no doubts either - We’ll both be fathers soon. >>5628632True, but you're assuming Felix is the protagonist and not Amuro. Felix might be a villain who dies tragically after a three to five episode arc which humanizes Zeon forces. It really is a pattern for a bit in 0079.

“...Certainly sooner than before.” You answer happily, the question not bothering your nearly so much as it has before, a little thrill of excitement running through you and mingling with the energy of the moment - It’s not some blind rush to legitimize a child, you don’t truly have to worry about that with your name anyways, you just love Elena, “We can work out the details later, we still have a night to enjoy.”“Indeed!” Dozle agrees, moving closer to place a congratulatory hand on your shoulder, clasping it firmly, “A great future lies ahead for all of us, our strength will ensure it!”Later that night. The last hour or so have been filled with pleasant conversation and a bit of light hearted teasing from your siblings; they’re both happy for you, but it’s clear neither of them expected this to happen so quickly. Elena and your mother have spent most of the time with one another, talking about all sorts of things, but Astraia really does have a lot of useful advice; she had Casval at eighteen, was a political nobody before that, and had to figure out how to live in a new world - it’s not quite identical to Elena, your mother’s situation was even more of a surprise, but Elena has been listening very closely nonetheless. One question has come up a few times though, without a satisfactory answer yet: Where will Elena live now? An apartment on Von Braun is no place to go through a pregnancy, for her or the child - Not that it couldn’t be managed, of course it could be, but it’s far from ideal and there’s no security besides her own wits and whoever you could get posted to keep guard in secret. What have you decided upon together?>Elena will stay in Von Braun City and continue her education, but in a much more secure home and with staff and guards to care for her; you’ll be visiting as often as you can from the academy.>Elena will move to Zeon and transfer to Zum University, it takes only a letter to see that done. >>5628978To explain why I don't just want to bring her in Zeon itself, it's because if she stays in Von Braun she might have the chance to do some more spy work (especially when compared to keeping her with us in the palace).

A major hurdle to overcome is reactor miniaturization and field motors, she might not be helpful in the former but her knowledge in robotics could lend itself to the latter and much earlier developments of HMT mobile suits.
>>5628999I think the pregnancy and eventual marriage is going to hold her back from spyingSo better to just keep her on a place she can focus on working on engineering
>>5629020She can just put sunglasses on, nobody will know.
>>5629000Arguably her abilities could help us out more if she's able to act at least semi-independently.>>5629020How would keeping her in the palace, the center of Zabi politics and schemes, help her focus on her studies? By that logic we should either have her on Guardian or Von Braun. She won't be able to even do any spywork, since she'd be going against the heart of the entire spy network.Mostly what I see happening is that she'll bond with the Zabis if she starts getting some 'special' attention from Vivima I will kek
>>5629032>If she's able to act at least semi-independentlyEasy, give her an industrial startup to compete with Zeonic and Zimmad. Call it Zam Heavy Industries or something and use it to more directly scalp feddie engineers from her contacts on Von Braun and S7.
>>5629032I feel like they'll probably just leave her alone for the most part, like how they're leaving Astraia alone (aside from Dozle of course but different story). Her spywork days are numbered anyway since it'll probably get too hard for her to sneak around or do mcuh else once her belly starts getting bigger. And I don't think she'd really bond with the Zabis too much, she's ride or die with Felix and there's also the fact that she hates the Zabis too for almost killing her and being the catalyst to her family falling apart. At most she'd probably just think Viv and Garma are 'alright', but would still shoot them in the back of the head for Felix if it came to it.. At least I think so.
>>5629032Because she will be studying at Zum university and could work alongside the people on Zeonic that we talked with.
>>5629027Put sunglasses on the belly too, that way they can't recognize the baby
>>5629039That's actually a brilliant idea, but it's very unlikely to happen with how entrenched Zimmiad and Zeonic are (especially since they have huge Zabi backing). Especially with the OYW coming so soon.>>5629040I don't see it that way. I already underestimated how well they'd be able to corrupt Felix and the other Deikuns (basically everyone except Cas has some sentimentality for the Zabis). The Zabis (or at least Vivi) are smart enough to realize that if Elena likes them then Felix (being as weak willed as he already is) can easily be bent to fully commit to the Zabi clan.>>5629046That is true. But that also means she's likely to not be able to do anything and probably just end sucking it up to the Zabi lapdogs.
>>5629057>but it's very unlikely to happen with how entrenched Zimmiad and Zeonic areWait a minute, what if it's a supplemental company? They don't work specifically on MS designs themselves but take on developmental contracts for manufacturers, like producing limited run MS or providing post manufacture upgrades or reworks. Like Shelby did with Ford.
>>5629064That is a possibility, but I've always seen them as independent corporations. It's likely Felix knows how the companies operate.Though that does bring up a point, if they are supplemental companies then who would be the main manufacturers? Some sort of operation directly controlled by the Zabis? If we get Elena to start up her own thing, the Zabis will likely expect it to become a supplementary company too (not even because they wouldn't trust us, but because it could potentially make Zeon's war production less efficient).
>>5629071Zimmad and Zeonic are independent corporations which are IIRC nationalized during the OYW but still retain their civilian leadership. They have their own manufacturing plants. A potential supplemental company ran by Elena would probably have a lot more leeway with what it does than the others due to her direct connection with Felix and Zeon's leadership. I can picture it being her company that comes up with crazy non standardized modifications or upgrades for the various Zeon MS instead of iterative improvements we're more likely to see from Zeonic and Zimmad thanks to Vivima's influence on the industry.

>>5629057Oh yeah, I can see see them trying to win Elena over to get to Felix. I just don't think it would work since Elena is really, REALLY devoted to Felix.
>>5629079I honestly can't help but feel like it'll only end up as a waste of potential. And I disagree with how good it'll be for us, considering that specialization was a factor that caused Zeon to lose the war so badly.>>5629115You misunderstand. She will always be devoted to Felix, she'll just start to influence him into being more for reconciliation and less for Casval's plan (especially since that's what Artesia is doing so far. And Artesia and Elena were childhood friends, so it's likely they'll talk and confide in each other. I don't doubt that Elena will start to gradually become more pro-Zabi as time goes on).I've already overestimated the willpower of characters on multiple occasions, I don't want to do it again.

After a short discussion you and Elena settled upon a new living arrangement for her in Von Braun City; a larger and secure compound will be provided for her to live at while she continues her studies, with guards and staff to help care for her throughout the course of her pregnancy. Mink can stay with her since and carry out most of her work as an assistant from there, she won’t usually be with you at Guardian colony anyways, and maybe Ramba or Dozle have trusted men to act as guards. You will of course be visiting as often as possible, but obligations at the academy will keep that to short visits on the weekends most likely. You wish you could see Elena every day, but the other options would drag her even closer to the influence of the Zabis or put her at greater risk of Federation intelligence. No, Von Braun is the place for her and your child, for a little while longer anyways. In all the excitement you’d nearly forgotten about it, you did still speak with Dozle on behalf of Senator Cato; a meeting will be arranged, but Dozle was skeptical about sharing mobile suit technology so soon after its development. It’s not an unexpected problem, but the willingness to hold talks at all might help signal to others in Riah that Zeon is acting in good faith when it claims to want an alliance. Maybe other technologies can be exchanged, or Elena’s idea of a mobile suit parade could work? It’s largely for others to decide now, you’ve done your part.Where are you now?>Back at the academy several weeks later, preparing for one of the first of many war games against Federation soldiers. While votes are still coming in, here is something that almost never gets discussed about UC Gundam: All of the really, really tiny MS.They've been around since at least Zeta, but Side Six's defense forces were using them back during the OYW going by 0080. They never seemed to have received much in the way of military development, generally being converted civilian units with guns strapped on them, but there's one briefly in the background of the Torrington base attack in Unicorn that looks like a proper fighting machine. Infantry equipped with them seem like a nasty thing to run into in urban combat or during a boarding action; the smaller ones might even be able to fit in some ship passageways.

“...And now line up the front post and the rear sight, just like I showed you. It should look a lot like a w, right between them and with their tops even.” You kneel just behind Glemy as he points his little rifle down range in the cavernous training area beneath the Zabi palace. He’s been a quick student, and now that you’re done with basic safety instruction it’s finally time for him to put a few rounds down range, “Do you see it?”“I do.” Glemy answers quietly, his little brow furrowed and blue eyes focused intently on the paper target some ten meters away, a very close shot - but this isn’t meant to be difficult, “I see it, Felix!”“Do you have it over the target?” You ask, and Glemy gives a tiny nod, closing one eye as he aims, “Keep both of your eyes open, Glemy.” “...Can I shoot yet?”“Remember what I told you earlier?” You ask him, and the blond boy gives you an uncertain look - That’s what you thought, he was too excited to remember everything, “Take a deep breath Glemy, and then squeeze the trigger gently while you let the air out, it should be right in the middle of it. You can shoot.”There’s a sharp pop as the tiny rifle fires, a single neatly cut out hole appearing just to the right of the bullseye. Glemy lowers his rifle, a huge smile spreading across his face as he realizes his success. He begins to turn toward you, and you hold out an arm to stop him, keeping his rifle pointed down and down range.“Remember what I said about where the gun is facing?”“But it only holds one!” He protestests briefly, but the opposition fades immediately as you give him a look, “...Alright, sorry, I know.” “This one might be safe because it only holds a single shot, but you need to practice for all the ones that won’t be - Most won’t be safe, Glemy. Here, reload like I showed you.”As Glemy busies himself with reloading the little break action rifle, you turn to face your brother and Vivima; they’re both in the middle of loading magazines - The guards could have been asked to do it for them, it’s tedious work, but after your time at the academy it would almost be insulting not to see everything through from beginning to end. “Great shot, Glemy!” Vivima encourages the young boy as she slides another bottlenecked round into a curving magazine, “Give it another few, you’ll be outshooting us all in no time.” “It could just be beginner's luck,” Casval comments, but from his smirk you understand immediately he’s trying to encourage Glemy a bit more competitively, “Could you prove me wrong, Glemy?”“I’ll do it! Die, feddies!” Your younger brother shouts back, keeping focused on his weapon as he snaps it closed again and repeats the steps you showed him earlier, sighting in on the target and letting off another tiny cracking blast - The second hole appears a little closer toward the bullseye, overlapping with the first slightly.
>>5629504“...Very precise, Glemy.” You encourage him, “See if you can get it right in the middle.” And so it goes for a few more minutes, until eventually Glemy has worked his way through most of the small box of ammo for his rifle, the ground covered in miniscule spent brass. With the exception of a few fliers Glemy managed to put nearly everything in the center of the target - That’s a very encouraging sign for a first time shooter, even this close up with a rifle. “Are you two nearly done?” Vivima asks kindly; she finished loading her own ammunition awhile ago and has been watching on with a bright smile - It’s good to have a friend like her, she was here for Glemy before your family every arrived at the palace and she hasn’t let up one bit since he was ‘adopted’. If anything she’s redoubled her efforts, and it’s very easy to think of her as nearly a sister… It’s a dangerous line of thinking that’s refused to stop plaguing you for months now, even before Dozle married your mother. “We’re almost finished with this one.” You confirm, “Glemy…”>”...Want to try shooting at something further away?” >”...Stand back and watch this - Hey, Cas, want to see if you’ve got what it takes to beat me still?” A bit of brotherly competition never hurts. >”...We’re all going to shoot our own guns now. You can stay close and watch how they work, I’ll show you.” The boy might be able to shoot some of them from a rest, but he is not big enough to handle much of anything you, Cas, or Viv will be shooting otherwise.>Write-in.

Did we have a proper public reveal that we are Deikun kids or did that get torpedoed by the assassination attempt? Because it feels like it was glossed over or I missed it completely.
>>5629647Yes, we had Cas handle the speech itself.
“...Stand back and watch this.” A grin spreads across your face as you turn back to your older brother, “Hey, Cas, want to see if you’ve still got what it takes to beat me?” “Challenging me again?” Casval shakes his head in amusement before looking over to Viv, and extending a hand for one of the handguns next to her atop their table, “He wins one shooting competition and turns into this.”“He’s nearly as cocky as you are these days.” Viv smirks, handing the dark pistol over grip first.Viv’s smirk soon spreads to your brother as he accepts the handgun and stands to join you, “Perhaps it runs in the family - It’s time for a lesson in humility either way.”“I bet Felix is going to win, he’s an ace!” Glemy encourages you, his rifle held in one hand with its barely tilted and breach fully opened, “He got more of those bad guys than you!”“Counted them, did you? So you’re the source of his confidence?” Cas lifts an eyebrow just slightly as he looks down toward Glemy; you could almost swear he was looking at a younger version of himself at times, the resemblance is uncanny if not quite exact, “Did you get more of them, Felix?”You just shrug, but you know you didn’t get more of them - Sharing Tryphosa’s unfiltered pain really threw your aim off then. It’s strange to hear a child like Glemy talk so cheerfully about the event, surely it must have been traumatic… You were a few years older when you first killed, in that guntank rampage through Zum when you first escaped the Zabis. Even now you still see the images in nightmares… Missed shots and explosions ravaging buildings filled with unsuspecting innocents… Well, dark thoughts for another time, you’ve long since come to terms with the worst of it. Perhaps it is a good thing that Glemy is as resilient as he is, or simply too young to have really understood the horror of what happened.Vivima stands up now as well, the control remote for the cavernous underground ranges automated systems in hand, “How difficult do you two want this to be?”“Set movement and evasion to max and loiter to the minimum setting, but keep the lights on - I want Glemy to see this.” You reply immediately, one hand already tapping slightly at the holstered revolver at your side - A matching holster on the opposite side holds its twin, both of them no longer just interesting pieces from Hogo’s collection. No, you’ve trained with them both, killed with them; they’re your revolvers now, in a way most can’t understand - If you were feeling dramatic you might even say you’ve bonded with them.
>>5629743“...Done and done,” Viv taps the settings into the remotes and you can hear electric motors whirring to life across the range in a quick diagnostic, metal targets popping up here and there among the fake building fronts and other obstacles scattered through the cavernous chamber.“You can go first, Felix.” Casval offers, but you shake your head.“You’re going to win either way, aren’t you? I’ll let the honor be yours.”Casval doesn’t argue it further, and you help nudge Glemy away from the shooting line as Vivima gets ready to begin the match. She calls out clearly to your brother, “Shooter ready?”“Ready!”Several minutes later, after the thrill and gunfire of your frantic competition.“A tie?” Vivima’s violet eyes narrow as she looks at the score readout on a small screen on the remote’s face, “...Is that even possible?”“Woah, that was so cool!” Glemy shouts, “How do you spin them like that, Felix?” “Very carefully.” You answer with a cocky grin, drawing one of the empty revolvers and giving it a few spins for good measure, enjoying showing off, “...Don’t try anything like it though, I’ll show you how to do it properly when you’re older.”“...Awww.” Glemy sighs in mild disappointment.“...Do you want to run it again?” Vivima asks you and Casval, already tapping at the remote to reset everything, but you both shake your heads.“You’ve slipped since the last time. Well shot as always though, brother.” Casval says, and though it has a slight edge of banter you know he’s not wrong - Recovery seems to have hit you harder than him, you were the better and sometimes even faster shot with a handgun before your injury, but a lack of practice while recovering has left you a bit off… He’s slowed as well, both of your times were worse, but it’s “And the same to you.” You smirk, glad you didn’t lose at least, “Taught the lesson you were hoping for? I tied you with a pair of antiques.” “...Not quite the lesson, no. Not this time.”“We could go a few rounds in the simulator and really see who’s the best.” Vivima suggests, and Glemy’s eyes light up at the idea. He really loves going for rides in it the simulator pods - a young boy thinking giant robots are awesome, what a surprise! All options will skip to the academy, but they will have happened off screen.>”That does sound like a better competition, and it’s been awhile. What do you say?”>”Still think these are just pea shooters compared to mobile suits, Viv? You’ve barely shot at all today, give the course a run or two.” >”Another time. I’m going to have some simulators moved to the academy anyways. Glemy, want to try shooting some more and then running part of the course? We’ll start simple and slow, but I think you’ll have fun. We’ll be right with you the whole way through.”>Write-in.
>>5629745>”That does sound like a better competition, and it’s been awhile. What do you say?”
Just to be clear, the reference to sending simulators to the academy doesn't mean making them widely available; it's just for Felix and his inner circle of friends/family (and probably the Zabis) to use. This is what was talked about near the end of the last thread while in the hospital.
>>56297451)>”That does sound like a better competition, and it’s been awhile. What do you say?”2)>”Another time. I’m going to have some simulators moved to the academy anyways. Glemy, want to try shooting some more and then running part of the course? We’ll start simple and slow, but I think you’ll have fun. >>5629745>>”That does sound like a better competition, and it’s been awhile. What do you say?”There's been a lot of emphasis on how much Glemy looks like Casval, is Glemy a clone of our father??
>>5629798I wouldn't put it past Gihren to stick a bunch of Deikun dna into his test-tube baby.

18:05, 27th February UC 0076Zeon Military Academy on Guardian Banchi, Side Three (Republic of Zeon)Row after row, rank after rank, the cadets of your class stand at attention as you arrive back at the academy’s main building for the first time in nearly two months. You class mates are the first thing you see as you step from the armored staff car and out into the grounds of the academy, just behind Casval and ahead of Artesia. The sky is bright overhead, reflectors set at full daylight and shining illuminating rays all across the cylindrical colony’s interior, and the light plays off of little rank insignia and a tiny handful of medals and awards already distributed throughout the classes assembled here. Not only is your class of cadets assembled, but the two higher years as well, many hundreds of young men and women in uniform standing resolutely as they await your return.“First year class, salute! Sieg Zeon!” You hear Garma call out from the head of your class section; a full third of the assembled cadets raise their arms in the characteristic salute of Zeon, the name of your father on their lips - It’s a roar of nationalism that swells your heart despite your own misgivings for what Gihren has turned Munzo into. He’s done it all wrong in so many ways, but perhaps it isn’t too far gone to be saved, and not everything is entirely rotten.Garma has already been back here for awhile, having received his own heroes greeting then - Openly fighting off assassins has made you all quite popular among the younger members of the military, even beyond what the Deikun or Zabi name ever could; you have a legend now, though a nickname hasn’t seemed to stick yet quite a few have been thrown around - Your use of revolvers was well captured on film by an abandoned news camera left out in the square during the fighting, so you’ve already prepared yourself mentally for a barrage of ‘cowboy’ comments. “Second year class, salute! Sieg Zeon!” Another class leader shouts, and again the cadets cry out “Sieg Zeon!” in answer. And so it goes as you walk back toward your own class, a place of honor in the front rank reserved for you and your siblings return, and for Vivima as well - She keeping up a very serious and dignified look, but you know this must thrill her terribly, she’s all about public perception and this kind of nearly ritualized praise must be exactly what she craves… Or perhaps not, you’ve thought poorly of her before many times and been surprised; if only she would see how flawed Gihren’s ideology is… She isn’t a bad person, not yet.“Third year class, salute! Sieg Zeon!”
>>5630063The next day. The pomp and ceremony of your return has faded back into normal academy life, and your class has begun preparing for the wargame in a few days against Federation ‘garrison’ forces. “Yo, Felix, bro - Ready to break a boot off in some feddie ass? Haha! We’re gonna feed them their own teeth, it’s gonna be so burner!” Tiff shouts over to you as the class gathers in a field to have their unit’s assignments given out, her shrill voice instantly discernible above the general din of conversation. “I think my leg’s good enough for that again.” You laugh, greeting the short young woman with a smile - It’s been so much easier to smile recently, not just here but at home as well, something about knowing you’re going to be a father helping to light up the world around you… Perhaps it is only a delusion born of naivety, but it feels like a real change.“Aye, hope so laddie.” Rix walks on over to you as well, “Knew whit oor assignment will be?” It hasn’t been within your discretion until now, but as a Deikun-Zabi and the adopted son of the academy’s superintendent you can essentially pick whatever role in the upcoming battle that you would like; you’re no coward or fool though, so you’ve tried to think of the genuinely best way to be of help to the class as a whole - Defeating the Federation, even in a war game like this, will bring more glory to your name. Your family needs that if you’re even to gain influence, you must diligently build yourselves up.Casval’s inner circle will take up a similar role to whatever you choose; Artesia will be with you as a ‘medic’ but since all the fighting is with paint rounds she’s mostly there if something goes horribly wrong and a serious real injury occurs.>”We’ll be infiltrating Federation lines and causing all kinds of mayhem, fighting will be heavy and there’s little hope we’ll all come out ‘alive’. Congratulations, you’re all special forces for a few days!”>”We only have a couple of tanks, and they’ll be one of the first things the feddies try to take out, but I think we can make the meanest armor platoon this side of Luna - Tiff, want to be a gunner?”>”We’re going to be at the head of the assault with flight packs, scouting out targets for Garma’s artillery and neutralizing Federation strong points - It’s going to be bloody.”

“We’ll be infiltrating Federation lines and causing all kinds of mayhem, fighting will be heavy and there’s little hope we’ll all come out ‘alive’,” You inform them, Izumi and Blare joining you now as well, “Congratulations, you’re all going to be special forces for the next few days.” “Special forces aren’t part of the approved force organization for the war game,” Blare points out at once, he expression slightly worried by the possible rules violation - the results of the entire war game could be trashed if a charge of cheating manages to stick, “...Did you come up with this idea with your family as well?”“It was tossed around. On paper we’ll be scouts. Very undisciplined scouts.” You smirk, having already covered this with Garma and Vivima; if the Federation officers try to push things you know you’ll get Dozle’s full backing.“Back to your games already?” Izumi muses, flashing a mischievous grin of her own, “What a despicable ploy, such treachery - It’s perfect for these Federation dogs.”“Ahaha!” Tiff laughs, hoarse and shrill, wrapping a small arm around Blare and leaning in on him, “This is gonna be so burner. It’s good to be bad, lighten up babe.” “I suppose it does fit the spirit of special forces to lie about existing at all…” Blare gives a tiny shrug, relenting under Tiff’s affectionate attention - After a few more seconds they pack that back away, returning their attention to the planning; as ridiculously close as they are at times it hasn’t ever gotten in the way of training, at least not enough to make any difference you could tell.“Have you seen what the battlefield will look like? I know last fall the Feddies had a very dug in position and bunkers, a deep defense… Shredded the second years.” Blare continues, shuddering a bit.“It’s going to be largely the same,” You reply grimly, “But that might be to our advantage, they’re getting lazy.”“Classic Feddies.” Rix chuckles, cracking his knuckles, “We'll find a wey in.” “Gather around, I’ve got a map of their positions from the last game… Or maybe from this one? There aren’t date markers. A lot of the bunkers don’t change either way, they’ve been used for a few years…” You kneel down on the hard packed dirt of the ground and retrieve the folded map from within your vest, laying it out for your squad mates to see, “Most classes don’t get this information, we’ll have an advantage.” “...How did you acquire it then?” Blare asks curiously, “The Colonel?”
>>5630297“No, not quite. …Cleaning staff took it from the Federation offices.” You refrain from mentioning too much about Mink - What an assistant, she managed it all on her own as well. She might be a ditz about some things, but she’s extremely attentive; you’d discussed the war games with Viv and Casval a few times, and Mink just… sort of went and got what you needed, walking right in and then out in a basic disguise. “A janitor? Ahahaha!” Tiff cracks up, nearly losing it, “Imagine letting a dude with a mop klep a map… So we’re cheating? Nice, fuck em’.”“Did anyone ever say we couldn’t do this?” Izumi asks Tiff, but the crimson eyed cadet just shrugs before taking a drag of her cigarette, clearly not giving a shit either way, “It’s in the spirit of a real battle, if the Federation cannot secure their own intelligence it is their own foolish mistake.”“I can’t help but agree…” Blare trails off as he studies the map carefully, adjusting his glasses a little as he looks over the topography and marked positions and units, “This map is new, it isn’t from last fall. These are their planned positions for this game.”“Explain.” You prompt him.“It’s the print itself, it’s crisp and unfaded, barely touched at all. You’d see wear around the edges here, and there aren’t any marks on it yet… The positions are off from last fall as well, I’ve been trying to put together a mental map already and some of this is off. It’s lazy changes, but they’re still there.”“...Alright, so we’ll assume this is up to date then.” You trust Blare at his word, “We should figure out our targets then. I’ll get the map to Garma after we’re done, I’m sure the artillery are going to love this.”A few days later, at the commencement of the operation. What plan did you settle on?>Blare identified a possible blind spot in the Federation perimeter, you’ll be hoofing it in early in the morning before first light and most of the fighting begins. Your first target is a communications relay that links Federation forward observers back to their guns.>Izumi thinks the weakness Blare found can be exploited much further if you move fast enough, you’ll be pushing all the way to the Federation guns themselves and taking those out. There’s a risk of getting caught out, but it does>Tiff and Rix have gone out and ‘borrowed’ a Federation truck, and Tiff got federation uniforms from a strip club of all places… There’s enough for your whole platoon, you’ll be doing some proper sneaking in. The plan is to change before attacking, springing out from deep behind Feddie lines. So long as you aren’t caught on the way in you should be able to deny perfidy and claim to have snuck in ‘properly’ in your own uniforms through their lines.
>>5630299The second options should say: >Izumi thinks the weakness Blare found can be exploited much further if you move fast enough, you’ll be pushing all the way to the Federation guns themselves and taking those out. There’s a larger risk of getting caught out and eliminated early, but it does come with the chance to use the Feddie artillery against their own forces.
