Kaede is a 17 year old girl that just finished high school. She's smart, pretty but got lose morals - not in that sense pervert. It's just that there are bigger problems in the world that scammers and mundane thief, with the monsters and like all other things, so why not help oneself?
Kaede's newly budding power is related to space and time. However, she sucks at controlling it for now and barely qualified at a C level hero.
She's able once every few minutes to perform a flash - short range (5 meters) teleport, for now leaving noise at entrance and exit as well as particle effects indicating a wise enemy where she went. She can also accelerate or decelerate things or people. Enough to dodge easily a baseball thrown at her, not enough to stop an arrow from tearing her a new one.

Kaede scammed people online to get funds for her suit - one for now, other have been commissioned. This one increase her durability and weaponize her flash by allowing her to leave blades behind that can come back in their sheath.

The scammed simp have evolved into the jumper squad.

The apartment thing? Landlord had stopped asking for rent. Turns out the old perv died and Kaede was on the testament. It's good because situation with the parents is... complicated.

Being an Esper is great and all, but there's a problem - people keep forgetting who you are and that you exist. Once they break eye contact, every single living being (except for other Espers or very rare cases) tends to forget you exist, even during a battle! Whatever it is, this phenomena might be tied to your strange Esper abilities.

Shinon Watanabe was a normal person, getting to grow up in a decent neighbourhood and had the best education he could get. Sadly, he ended up as a white collar worker in a bland looking company, always tapping away at his computer with countless Excel data sheets.
Until suddenly... people started to ignore him. It was odd at first, but Shinon decided to investigate - the entire office building kept on forgetting who he was! With enough time, Watanabe realised two things: one, he awakened esper abilities, two, his powers made people unaware of his presence.

After experimenting with his powers, there was one useful thing at the end of the day - local monsters that appeared in his neighbourhood had brief moments where they thought a harmless office worker was in front of them, but then he's gone? Talk about elusive, but that forced Watanabe to spend a lot of money on a highly experimental esper helmet - finally allowing people to dampen his memory loss abilities or intensify them... should an emergency happen.

QM are you okay? Are you safe?

Kaede was late. Again. Class duties this time - she usually dodges them, until they caught up her little game. The first half of the year went well enough; balancing the waitress job and the classes was manageable, with the nerds helping for her homework and picking up on her duties. A couple smiles, little presents, brushing their arms with the top of her fingers. Hook, line, sinker.

And then, things felled apart. First, the job. Apparently, she was "flirting too aggressively" with the clients - a tip is a tip, and she did nothing out of law, or giving exact promises, right? - and sent to the kitchen as Assistant Cook. No more tips, a no-horseplay-in-kitchen head cook. This is when she started getting late for rent payments. Modern problems require modern solutions, and market laws are universal. She has supplies : decent look, voice, and a knack for people, and her class was made by at least one third of demand : attention deprived young males. Setting an online persona with a false name and address was child play. She mainly played the old "no money for train ticket" one - is it illegal to receive money from people and then get a shift preventing the trip, and slowly ghosting the sender? The only mistakes was using her real pictures. Next time, she'll find several likely minded individual to create a network of picture provider, decoupling identities and face for plausible deniability.

Around a month ago, she received the first letters. Somehow one of the egghead was good enough to track her through her layers of numeric deception. The sucker promised to not tell anything to the police if they had a date. As the stalker was in love, she ignored it. Repercussions where to reveal everything to her classmate "friends", that cut ties. No more leverage for them, no date. Kaede never had a real date and she's not interested. Well, barring some outstanding exceptions : Sweet mask, as any girl older than 10 of course, King with his raw magnestism and his whole 'strongest man on earth', Genos the bishonen cyborg and why not Fubuki?

This daydreaming was just a way to patient while yet another red light sluggishly waits to turn green.
"I wish I could just teleport around. Just hoping away the street and I'll already be there."

A flash, the restaurants turns into rubble. Kaede will never be late to work here anymore. Well, such is life. Where does the threat comes from?
"It is I, CrumbleMan ! turning every thing I touch into ruins!"
This time, the monster looks like a blob fish and human crossover, tiny heap shaped figure. Each step disrupt the road and cracks bitumen.
Kaede knows she can't do anything. Time to flee.
"Pretty girl, I can't wait to crumble you!"
The atrocity moves way faster it should, isolating the young girl in an island among ruins.
Kaede has to fight. She picks a torn steel bar. That thing have to touch her? Well, looks like it will have to come for it.

Her sight blurs, and she is behind the thing. Thrusting with all of her energy, the steel bar buries in the flesh of the monster. Kaede blinks. Blinks twice. This is a lot to process. She's alone with a defeated monster - does that makes her an Hero?

It's morning, a sunrise being visible through the bedroom's blinds. They weren't fully closed due to the string jamming somewhere, must've been the reason why they were so cheap in the second hand pawn shop. The feeling of a warm bed and a comfortable state of unconsciousness quickly fade, but that's not a reason to be upset or anything - cherish they sensation and know that it'll happen again once work is done.

Apartment number 21-B, originally built on Rose Street, but everything tends to change names and locations to the point of not paying any attention is the best course of action - except for mail and taxes, one would be stupid to file in Lavender Street for Rose, like the previous owner of the apartment. It's cheap, satisfies all of my needs and withstood countless monster attacks or hero brawls in the neighborhood.

My name is Shinon Watanabe, i am 27 years old.

I do not exist. Technically, I have a birth certificate, a couple of diplomas and a decently sized resume folder. That doesn't stop people from forgetting.

6:10 AM

I take care of myself with a shower, applying gels and creams to maintain a presentable appearance, you don't get to sell a product if one's face looks like a troll - then again, one did march in a week ago. His name is Mike, one of the newly hired interns by HR. "Human resources" might need a new name, considering how there's a lot of non-humans out there.

Toast and fried eggs, it's a good day to eat something that'll keep my endurance up until lunch break. It could use some spices, but those are a bit expensive for my liking - especially with the whole Spice King rumours circulating the internet.

6:30 AM

I'm fully dressed in my office suit, classy black shoes and hat. Brown is today's colour, there's enough cash in my account to afford a couple of spares with different shades in case an emergency comes up. My teeth are fully brushed, spitting out the mouthwash that was on sale during last weekend - it burns, but that's how pearly whites are made. I'll keep my inhibitor in a suitcase, along with my documents and various other supplies I need - there's no reason to turn it off at the current moment.


7:00 AM

Taking the usual train, I always pay for the ticket and stand up. could scam the system with my ability, but that's twenty yen less for someone's salary. Today's weather is pretty, a clear and blue sky always cheers me up.

8:00 AM - 16:00 PM

Finished work, some would say that my company's timetable is rather unusual. Whoever is running the show changed the schedule 1 hour earlier to be a little bit western, save time during daylight or something.

A monster attack hit the restaurant, a blob-man screaming about crumbling things. That's annoying, but what can you do? Right, "Crumble Man" has a partner called "Rubble Man", he's just a guy looking like a goblin but covered in seaweed.

Shit, that Rubble Man's blood stained my suit, but at least I did some cardio by smashing his skull in. As always, he didn't notice - a good thing for once.

There's a teenager being spooked out of her mind, about to get jumped by Crumble-what's-his-face. I take a moment to feel his neck, the monster shudders a bit, thinking that a cold breekze hit him. It's a little strange, Crumble's neck his awfully soft and full of veins, a person like him would definetly go to the hospital for a paper cut there.

I give her a hint, she'll manage the fish guy as Iook around for a handkerchief. Blood is very hard to clean, but i couldn't really walk away this time. The duo ruined my evening snack, so I suppose this is a way of taking revenge.

The police lady looks concerned. They have been quite fast to take action. A squad of three, overly cautious and using a wide array of expensive-looking technological gadget.
"Area clear. No other monster nearby.

Kaede struggles a bit with words. Or appeared to.

Her evening unexpectedly freed, Kaede headed home, crossing road with local Contractor Will Wheel. Will Wheel is a mystery : monster or cyborg? What matter is that C class Hero is mainly a S-city army knife when it comes to public work : the colossal assemblage of metal and flesh could morph into various contraption ; excavator, road roller, concrete mixer, lift truck, his potential was impressive. No wonder he worked harder on his mundane job than Hero career : no one else seems to fill this niche in K city.
Kaede always thought that her actions did not really matter in the end. That she has no way to massively benefit society. Not smart enough for scholarship, not enough connection for show-buziness, the future after her diploma is blurry.
But what happened tonight? Well, if she was faster she could have saved her boss and coworkers. That little detail put aside, Kaede feels she saved a few life by ending the monster there and then. That feeling of utility is exhilarating. She felt a calling while under pressure - she always thought she would have been the kind frozen in fear in confrontations.

Home, at long last. The place is quite nice, and quite inexpensive - 21-B Lavender Street. The geezer renting gives her a nice cut at the low cost of paying the rent hand-to-hand while wearing stockings, a mid-thigh length skirt and that pink top showing a hint of cleavage.

"Hey Lana, when are we going on a date?"

That should have happened some day. One of the letter sender took the next logical step and is waiting at the bottom of the block. No mental energy to deal with it. Kaede wishes this interraction to be over - but wait, maybe she can if the other time was not a fluke?

"I'm not there. I'm a product of your vivid imagination, a Tulpa made by your over-lonely mind"
Nailed the delivery. Kaede closes her eyes.

Can she do it again from the entrance to the living room? Concentrating, she feels something new, like a muscle coiled around her spine. It is white-hot for now, just thinking of using it makes her recoil. So she waits.

Ok, if I remove Study the Blade and Teamwork it will fit into the 600 CP for an Unregistered Weirdo.
Kai would no longer fight even better with others or be so autistic in his training he developed impossible techniques, but he is still build around getting as powerful as he can by picking fights with strong opponents and getting hurt, like a generic shonen character. Also free food and tournament arc passes.
Relocating the Dojo from the wilderness to city K, either in the outskirts or on a rundown part, makes it easier to interact with the team and gives everyone a dedicated training area.
Also dropping Asuka, the happy-go-lucky tomboy gang leader from the build, there's no need for a companion now that Kai is one.

My name is Shinon Watanabe and I... am waiting at a laundromat. Considering how my apartment isn't equipped with a washing machine and that I'm not considering the purchase of one anytime soon, this is my best bet at getting those blood stains off my suit. Thankfully, it didn't ruin my shirt. Then again, my unexpected cardio exercise made it all ruffled and full of sweat spots.

I begin to reflect on today's work and various other happenings. The office will need a new water cooler, a new printer... that's a lot of money for the company to spend.

Watching the news as my clothes kept on spinning in the washing machine was daunting, but there wasn't anything better to do. I took a nearby seat and crossed my legs, a little bit exhausted from denting that goblin's head. It must've been a while since I did this sort of... hero-ing? Charity? Charity sounds better, considering how nobody remembers who did it - that's for the best.

"I didn't kill that monster, probably got caught in his sidekick's destruction. Then again, i have no idea how my baton got stuck there." The injured police officer, now holding his left arm in a splint, keeps a stoic expression as the interviewer keeps on asking questions.

That girl... she did blink in a different place, didn't she? Definitely not an esper, I would've felt the easily recognisable sign - a headache, skin coldness, hell even an aura.

Shinon's writing begins to fade in colour, making him raise an eyebrow. It seemed that the white collar worker kept a journal on him at all times - for whatever reason it may have.

Right on cue, the washing machine did it's usual song, alerting the customer of his newly washed clothes. Shinon took what was his and began to walk home, stomach grumgling and body hurting from all the grueling work.

No way Kaede is going out again today. Especially for what she has in mind.
She was able to get through the door. So she didn't imagined anything, or was not under external help. What can she do exactly? There is the displacement part of the power. A flash? A blink? A jump? She's not sure of the label yet.
Then, once displaced, she was unconfused about her position and balance - unless she tries while in "Orange" where the jumps happen just fine but with balance consequences. In "White", it seems impossible, in "Red", Kaede would prefer not to try yet.
What about the voice she heard? Maybe an innate way to know weaknesses of opponents?
Maybe there's more to the power inside. It will have to wait

I removed Impact because we are the companions now. Although Kaede still has her Simp Jumper Squad, so perhaps bringing Impact and Asuka into the Weirdo Force wouldn't be that weird. Although we probably would have to write how the companions act, and I personally find just thinking about character difficult enough.

That's a lot fren, this really helped me figure out how to build Shinon. I think the "Only One With A Job" might fit him the most, considering how he doesn't really need the Silent perk to make people forget and he wouldn't intentionally get a hideout, but it would make sense for Shinon to be smart. In the end, I'm torn between Shinon being the brains of the operation or embrace the "average guy who is also an esper, but he carries the team due to having a job".
I would go for the job route, he wouldn't have any experience with teamwork - especially when Shinon is mostly alone on the field (with or without the amnesia ability being on).

OP never wrote after the character creation, and now three of us anon decided to recycle the concept we made into making a superteam.
This is the third time I've seen a QM drop a document in the jumpchain CYOA format and then disappears after a character is created and voted for.
I guess we could try to follow the beats of OPM as a gang of OCs, but only the more important events would happen since we are in city K and Saitama lives in city Z.

Also I'm trying to write Kai's post, I never wrote something that looked like an update before.

What if we simply use Kaede's training as a way to experiment with a dice system? We could be doing simple 1d100s or d20s, throw in modifiers based on their perks.
Then again, I think freeform would be alright, adding simple 1d100s for the random factor (Shinon might have moments where his ability doesn't instantly remove people's memories, Kaede makes a shit blink, etc)
These are my two cents on the matter, seeing how we've officially taken over. I'll try to think of a monster of the week, but maybe it would be wise to focus on the Hero Test first (do some dice checks and see how well she does).

Let's say Kaede roll tomorrow for her PE test : I'd roll 1d100 for her pure physical prowess and 1d100 for her power boost. As Kaede doesn't care about results but more about training, she'll get something like +5% from potential and +20% from get more power for that session. As she would be bottom 30% regarding physical, that's almost an auto-pass for training sprint speed. As she haven't found the speed up/speed down part of her power yet, it would be something like DC 75 to uncover by herself (Get more power and potential would apply), DC 50 if it is to avoid a slow projectile based attack (Potential only would apply, unless she's hurt. In that case, Fighting spirit might play). And regarding jumps, I have something in store outside of reach/cooldown circumstances allows, at a 90DC (more chances to unlock in a tough spot to benefit from all bonuses?)

Regarding rolls, what about rolling for ourself at our own call but letting someone else writing how it's done from another point of view? Or we can call other to roll for themself maybe?

Well it's not like I have a say here until I've actually decided to make a character, but I'd suggest a proficiency system. Where Proficiency in an activity/skill/etc means rolling more dice. This is a surprisingly effective way of getting rid of the bland, often dissatisfying randomness and making character choices/traits/abilities have observable impact.
I'd say 5d100 is max proficiency you can get out of one skill without making it ridiculous. Level expert so to speak, it shouldn't be achieved easily because it would ruin the journey.
Also modifiers for some situations! -30 for using fire against fire elemental, or +70 for fighting civilians. The modifier is more of a fun gimmick to use once in a while, rather than something to use regularly, though.

I think Kaleidoscope would be a good superhero name for Kaede

In a world chock-full of freaks of all types, where one can just train until they can explode mountains, get so angry they transform into a giant mutant or even just be born with superpowers , City K is experiencing the most extreme anomaly of all: a completely peaceful day.
It’s almost 4 pm in the afternoon, and no gangs have set up shop on abandoned buildings or alleyways overnight, no haywire robots is rampaging through the streets, no mysterious swordsman is standing on a crossroad challenging others to duels to the death, no sewer monster is trying to kidnap and eat citizens, no mad scientist is unleashing doomsday weapons, no hero is lifting trains on empty lots, and no tournaments are being held.
But while this sounds like a blessing, what is one man’s trash can be another man’s treasure. That is because a muscular man in a scruffy gi with a clearly annoyed look in his face is jogging through the streets while incessantly muttering to himself. While he is only 24 years old, the unkempt beard and bandaged injuries makes him look older than he is.
“What a waste of good weather”
Kai Fu’s routine is simple: Wake up when the sun starts shining, do the forms of all the styles he picked up over the years, repair the training dummies and just start wandering the city until he stumbles into a fight. While it isn’t that good of a plan, it hasn’t lead him wrong since he moved to City K a few years ago, mostly because he chose to set up his dojo in the outskirts. Well, “Dojo” might be a strong word, it’s just a gym in an abandoned park that he has been maintaining on his own. Most people that live on the edges do it because it is cheap despite the danger, but he moved there exactly because of it, with the cost just being a bonus.
The reason for that is that Kai is the type of person that learn from a more hands on approach, and that pain has been his best teacher. Theory flies over his head, forms act as nothing more than muscle memory, controlled spars barely work. But a good old fashioned brawl? A no holds, all-out effort between two opponents? It’s like something clicks. All the moves, the flow, it all makes sense. The more difficult, closely matched and drawn out it is, the more that well of hidden talent is drawn. And when it’s all over, each ache and sting carves the lessons in his mind.
For Kai, an entire day with absolutely no fights, is a day that he might as well have skipped on training entirely. He might have maintained his physique with exercise, but nothing was really gained, and he would probably gain all the calories he burned using the All You Can Eat lifetime pass he won as a prize from a sponsored tournament. It’s fortunate he listened to the advice of one of his teacher for once in his and actually bothered filling all the paperwork to get an universal entry ticket.

Despair was starting to creep up on his mind. Did he somehow scare away every trouble maker in city K, beat them up until they packed up and left? That couldn’t be it, he was sure there were still some around, he could feel it.
It was in that moment that he heard the very familiar sounds of crumbling and screaming in the distance, and immediately start sprinting in that direction. By the time he turned the corner on the street, all he could see was a ruined building, a corpse of a monster in a pool of blue blood, an injured police officer and a girl.
“I was too late…”
He immediately turned away distraught, not noticing the salarymen rushing away from the scene or the police quickly approaching. Or that this was the place that served his favorite ramen in the city.
“Maybe I should just head to the middle of the commercial district and start causing trouble. Even if no hero shows up, a cop or two shou…”
He immediately froze up when he noticed what he was saying under his breath, and gave a hard punch to his own face.
“What are you even thinking you idiot? That’s not the way of a martial artist.”
Kai never stayed on only one dojo for too long, he always would take spars too far or lack behind other students in regular training, and eventually get kicked out. Sometimes gently, other times more harshly. But even when he spaced out during the lectures, he heard the tenets of honor, respect and duty enough times to take it to heart. Seeking to test oneself is a noble purpose, but ignoring those that are hurt? Actively hurting innocents? That’s shameful behavior.
“I never been alone for so long in a dojo before, there always been a sensei, other students, and even the occasional rival around.”
Eventually he built up a reputation of a undisciplined hothead in the martial arts community, and no new dojo would accept him. Of course he had made friends along the way, even a few teachers, but even they couldn’t deny all the accusations, because there was some truth behind them, so it stuck. That’s when he moved to City K to train on his own.
“Maybe I should try to open the dojo to others, have a go at being a sensei myself.”
A smile slowly appeared on his face at the thought of turning the gym into a proper school, of students training around the park making him proud, of the stuffy old men that called him a failure having to recognize him.
“Yeah, I’m going to do that. Anyone that has the guts to go all the way there just to train for free should be worth my time.”
With a renewed purpose, Kai started going to the nearest print shop, already with an idea for the fliers. Today he was going to make one last lap through the city, but with a very different goal in mind.
Unfortunately, he forgot to pick up cleaning supplies on the way back. It should be fine as long no one shows up tomorrow before he tidies up the place, right?

Here it is, hope it has been worth the wait.
I rewrote parts of this way too many times, and I'm still not happy on how it meanders sometimes or how it flows from actions and ideas.
But it should give a good enough look into the character and set up potential plot hooks.

The quest that I followed had you start with 1s and then QM would automatically add points every thread to things players used the most. 5 dice in the last threads were had damn solid chance of win each time.

In Kaede case, Get More Power is cumulative. Each day spent training something, she gets +5% at her roll, increasing by 1% per day until the cap of 20%. Not training for a single day makes you start at 5% again.

7AM - The alarm goes off; Kaede still needs a little nap.
"Just five more minutes and I'll be on time to catch the bus", she mumbles while turning off the offender.
7AM50 - Kaede woke up. She was late for school - again. The misty fragments of her dream refusing to dissipate.
Emergency mode on, she winces as her body turned into a whole soreness
Basket, Tshirt, skirt - "Kooch, I forgot the sports brief"

While rushing through the streets, Kaede wonders.
She dreamt of a huge cactus, which thorn falls as the plant turned into a weeping willow, branch shielding a whole forest growing under her protection of the harsh sun.
Her search for meaning breaks upon sight of today's monstrosity : Rear of a Kangaroo, clawed arms, and an exotic bird beak.
No time to deal with it - and the Hobo sporting a torned Gi overtake her quickly to face the thing. At least, he doesn't smell. Kaede witness the fight starting, and just jump through the thing to make it on time.
That power is damn convenient, she thinks as she let the battle unfold behind her.

At least she's all warmed up for PE.

I'll give a go for this system, I think Kai is going to have 2 in Physical, and maybe in Willpower and Resilience too, because he's strong, stubborn and can take a punch, but he isn't exactly very smart or a social butterfly (he decided to go on his martial arts journey instead of high school).
And only Power 1, but halfway to leveling that up. Because while he learned a lot of different styles, it's all just their basics, so he still has to properly mix all of them into a style of his own.

Just in time. The class is warming up. Kaede starts running - what's this? Is wind pushing her? She feels lighter and faster than ever. She's leaving her previous orbiters in the dust - they always were better at sport than her, being boys and all. She's even almost catching up to Satoshi, the soccer team captain. He notices, and accelerates.
That's not normal. Kaede focus on her sensations.

In addition to her Blue internal status, she notices something more. A metaphorical second skin, aura, or whatever, that turned red when she wanted to go faster.

The aura goes back to white, her speed decreasing, Satoshi widening the gap.

Kaede like the guy - first, his name starts with K. Then, he really have a big heart under his gruff demeanor. Last, he always takes time to advise students that want to work and more importantly leaves alone those who doesn't. Alright, it's mainly the K thing.

Quick math, her red aura grants a time dilatation ratio of 1.3. Not bad, not bad at all.
Did her power also enhance her physical condition? Seems like it. She jumped from lower tier of the class to best in girl category - without the dilatation. That makes her a bit under the average for boys.

As usual, she can feel her female classmate badmouthing her. The whispers and sidelong glance, they started when she was small. Only explanation is that they feel threatened by her.
Once again, loneliness creeps. When was the last time she had a real conversation with someone? Someone she weren't trying to scam or obligated to interact with, that is. Maybe the class's nerds? Well, despite using them, they where the closest Kaede ever had to friends. They're forming a tightly bonded squad, while they didn't knew each other before she put them on her orbit.

Kaede approaches the boys. Time to put the mask on.

That's more or less how I imagined it
And I also thought that both resilience and willpower could affect HP, like someone that is physically weak could endure the pain by sheer force of will, or someone that is weak willed but incredibly bulky could shrug off a hit by not feeling it
We kind are making the system up as we go, so I don't know how much stats or perks should affect things.

Or maybe we could even add a separate type of HP called morale, that depending on the willpower a person just gives up.
So it could be possible for a social character to defeat a fighting one by just bullying

For the first time in years, Kai’s routine changed. His morning exercises were still the same, but he was going to leave on errands instead of searching for a challenge.
“I hope I have enough to cover all of this and still have some leftover to send to the old geezer”
Although he doesn’t have a source of steady income, every so often Kai enters a minor tournament and manages to reach the finals. The prize tends to not be too much, but it’s more than enough for someone that doesn’t need to pay for bills or food. Most of it he either spends on more training materials, or sends back to his grandfather in city C. Yu Fu was the one that told him to follow his dream and that he could take care of himself just fine, but Kai felt that this way he could pay back the man that raised him. Sappy backstory aside, it meant that he didn’t have much saved, and this was a big shopping list.
Sudden aggressively chirping broke Kai out of his mental battle with budgeting, as he saw a monster that was clearly of fusion of three different animals. He had a lot do today, and no one seemed to be at risk, but…

“It wouldn’t hurt to have a little fun before I start working, would it?”
As always, he rushed head first into danger, already thinking on a strategy to beat the Toucan Sloth Kangaroo. Start by putting it into a grapple and break both of its arms. That should get rid of the claws as a potential danger, so he would only need to pay attention to the beak, which he could easily solve by moving to the its back, as the tail did not look dangerous enough to hurt him with swings. Then it was just a matter of pummeling the thing into submission.

Putting it into practice, Kai moved closer, dodging the pecks and swings to get closer until he could grab the monster’s shoulders. The problems started when he noticed that the fur on the creature’s upper body was covered in a thin layer of mold, making it harder for him to maintain a good grip. That extra time and effort opened an opportunity for the Tousloroo to a digging it’s claw into Kai’s back. However he soldiered through the pain, focusing entirely on dislocating the arms.

Eventually he succeeded on damaging the arms enough that the monster stopped trying to scratch him, with Kai following up with a push to the center of mass to unbalance it so he could maneuver towards the backside. However, that’s when the biggest flaw on Kai’s plan showed itself: he had completely misread the danger of the CanSlothKan’s lower body. The monster tail was never meant for swinging at opponents, but to serve as a support for it to deliver a devastating kick, and the push had allowed it to hit Kai square in his abdomen, sending him flying back.

The pain was immense, if it wasn’t for the harsh conditioning of a martial artist, he likely would have been disemboweled. The smart move would be to retreat, he had been fighting the beast for long enough for long enough for support to arrive. But there was no fear in Kai’s heart, only the burning determination of a true fighter! Although bystanders would describe it more like a maniacal grin.
“Think you put me down just because you hurt me a little? THAT’S WHEN I’M AT MY BEST!”

The next few seconds were a blur of red and black for Kai. He could feel the pulsing of the blood in his veins, the throbbing in his head, the heat in the back of his neck. Every single attempt of the monster to attack him was met with either a counter. There was times when Kai did not even block or dodge before punishing the strikes, overwhelming it through sheer brute force and instinct. By the time Kai ceased his barrage, the thing was a unrecognizable mess smeared in the pavement.
He paused to catch his breath, before noticing that his gi was way more torn and red now.
“I think I’ll start the list by the laundromat”
As soon as those words left his mouth, he felt a sharp pain in his belly
“Maybe the medical supplies would be better…”
Kai quickly limped away from the fight, ignoring the police officers and paramedics that had arrived. He never actually registered with the Hero Association, even though he has been patrolling the city for some time. While he would love to claim that it’s in protest at the idea of regulating the right of self-defense, in truth it was just because it always seemed to be too much of a hassle to bother with all the rules. It’s a good thing that most people tend to just assume that someone that looks like a wandering martial artist that can hold his own in a fight obviously would be a hero, and the ones that don’t eventually give up after witnessing his ability to tune out lectures nearly instantaneously.

I also thought of a hook that could get both Kai, Kaede and Shinon to interact a bit.
And an idea for our first villain behind some monsters of the day

Rereading through the document we used as character creation, I should probably have picked Beast and Awakening for Kai in the 1000CP build, since it fits what I wrote how he fights. Thought about Sensei since he is becoming a teacher, but he isn't exactly a fountain of wisdom and common sense.
No idea how it would fit the 600CP budget for an unregistered weirdo, so it doesn't matter that much.

16:00 PM : End of class. Kaede is rushing away - the sooner she meet Kinjens, the sooner she can try to find another job.
16:23 PM : Kaede is at the landlord adress - 42 Magnolia street. She roughly saved 7 minutes on her trip.
She inputs the code, rush the three flight of stairs. Kaede wonders. Can she flash up or down? She will have to try later.
A close door, a piece of paper taped on it.
"Miss Kinoshita, please come and see me" - signed by the caretaker, living on the first floor.
Kaede goes down, knocks. A old lady opens, glare from head to toe, then head, and grumbles.
"You're the old perv sugar baby, right? There's no justice in this world I guess."
Kaede just ignore the promiscuity accusation. No need, the landwhale - probably jealous of her youth and freshness - is set on her judgement. Best to remain silent.
"You'll have to find a new cash cow. Well, maybe not right now. His lawyer wants to see you."
The caretaker hands over a letter with the stamp of a legal office. Kooch kooch kooch, legal news are never good.

"Lady Kinoshita Kaede,
This is formal notice that Jiro Kinjens died on the twelfth of this month, and you may have interest in mister Kinjens' estate.
Please come to my office to sort out the procedure.

Well, as bad news go, this one is acceptable - if Kaede puts aside the hope of the geezer buying her lunch tonight.
She can't help but wonder if that was the meaning of the cactus dream.

The flat was willed to her, with a substantial sum of money - enough to pay the succession taxes, to the nearest cent.

Kaede heads home, her head spinning. That is certainly one less burden on her mind.

What is happening in that dark alley? A salaryman, bland looking - is he blond or chestnut-haired? is discussing with three men in a black attire.

The man closes his eyes, focus, and simply try to walk away. What is he doing? The men look dangerous!

His name was Shinon Watanabe and he does not exist. It was a mistake to do the taxi side-gig, ever since Shinon bought a limousine for dirt cheap from Bob the Troll, the newest member of PR's ever expanding redundant team.

"Buddy, you look like the guy who'd enjoy a ride. Can you keep a secret?"

"I've uh... done something pretty illegal in that limo, smoked a bunch of monster crack in my spare time. Yes, yes, don't tell anyone and i'll let you buy it for practically nothing - I want it gone!"

That limo took weeks to fully clean, sanitise and replace the abnormally stained leather - but it was a good investment either way. If the weather was good, he'd finish work and do a side gig involving the limo. He took people wherever they wanted at a hefty cost, but no customer had any complaint... until now.

Those three have been checking him out for almost a week, buying rides here and there. One day, they even took a middle aged man with a shifty appearance, refusing to do anything but silently stare at me and take notes.

A lie, Shinon was reaching for his esper headpiece that was tucked away in the silver briefcase. He knew that the unknown piece of technology that wrapped around his forehead could reduce said abilities... but it also had the property of intensifying them.

"No, I'm afraid you won't do that." One of the men in black reached for an item in his pocket, showing the clear shape of a pistol.*

Shinon Watanabe's eyes widened, now fully understanding what was going on. They still remembered him, not just that... these people wanted to snatch this poor salary man away. Small droplets of sweat formed on Shinon's soon-to-be pale face, both hands turning into fists as he-

"Hey Klutz, I'll help you for a meal!"

Four heads turned, then Shinon turned back to the men-in-black. In the blink of an eye, the young girl appeared right next to one of the creeps and nailed a punch in his throat as the others scrambled for whatever they had to fight back.

"Piece of fuck..." The throat punched goon wheezed before falling on the ground, clutching his painful neck

Unexpectedly, the salary man raised his silver briefcase and made a wide swing for one of the men-in-black's heads. He sounded... desperate, like a cornered animal - it was a surprise that he didn't drop dead right there.

In the heat of it all, Shinon's wide arc was easy to avoid. Once the salary man's weapon (a hefty briefcase) was too far from his centre, the MIB lunged and grabbed Shinon's arms - an attempt to disarm their target.

"That's it, you're coming with us willingly or unwillingly, even if it takes rendering you unconscious!"
What seemed to be a man in his 30s briefly looked at his partner, making a nod towards Kaede. In response, the 3rd MIB cracked his knuckles and squared up, ready to punch the teenager at a moment's notice.

Thankfully, Shinon broke from the agent's grasp, successfully kicking him away. Watanabe wasn't used to fighting normal people, only monsters that threatened his livelihood - but he wasn't going to leave unwarranted violence go unpunished.

The throat punch was way more effective than anticipated. Her <Jump> glowing white, Kaede shivers - what did she get herself into?
One of the man goes for her, swinging a comically predictable haymaker. Kaede crouches. The man punches the brick wall, and wails. That might have broke some of the little hand bones.

They had to forget. Still shaking, but holding a rather unsettlingly calm smile, Shinon knelt next to the men in black (one knocked out from his neck injury and the other yelping in a suffering pitched voice) as he pulled out... a pair of expensive headphones. Hidden switches were pulled, lights turned on, something activated?

After putting away the bland hat and sliding them on, revealing highly advanced components bit by bit, as they extended to Shinon's eyes, nose and middle part of his head. Whoever Kaede helped out, he definitely afforded this crazy piece of tech - was he working for the Hero Association?!

No, that wasn't important right now, something bad was happening. Kaede's small distraction made her forget that the salary man was... firmly grasping their heads, as if letting go would cause a disaster. The air grew frigid, colour faded away into black and white, a constant stream of static crept up on her spine.

Far below the alley where three men in black are getting beat up by a highschooler and an accountant, a group of mutant rats scurry through the city sewers, each carrying a piece of meat the nearly the size of their head in their mouths. They are not bringing this haul back to the nest to feed their young, but following a very different kind of instinct, one that was drilled in their minds, instead of naturally evolving.
They will keep up the pace until reach the very edge between City K and the wilderness, when they will emerge from the pipes to enter hidden tunnels dug by MoleBadgers, leading into a forgotten nuclear bunker. Once inside, they will pass by hallways and rooms filled with strange instruments, cages, and animals on the to the heart of the facility: a rows of open vats filled with odd balls of flesh floating on an bubbling liquid, where they would drop the chunks they carried.
In a room overlooking this, sits a man dressed in a garish victorian clothes, intensely staring at creature that looks like a mixture between a fly and a bee resting in his palm. His expression slowly changes from a displeased frown to sly smile, until a sudden fury overtakes him, crushing the mutant insect with his gloved hand.

He continued to pace through his office, excitedly thinking about his next monster, already forgetting of the effective parts of the previous one.

Well, I'm trying to think up how to train Kenichi.
I'm thinking of having a few stats to determine his style, like choosing (or rolling for) Intelligence, Physical, Willpower, Resilience, Power (or Skill) and Instinct, and then afterwards roll to see his progress at learning and training (aided or hindered by teaching Kai’s rolls)
But I was going to leave it at the end of the update so you can have the full freedom to set up your minion as you want to.

As an example, Kai's focus is on Willpower, Resilence and Physical making him a sort of long term bruiser meant to tire his opponent and punish them.
Someone with a focus on Physical, Power and Intelligence would be a person that makes few, precise strikes to end a battle quickly, but can't last long.
Instinct is a different one, it's something that can't be trained, only awakened.

Actually I should add something like perception and agility.
And, ignore the instinct stat for now.

In the most literal sense, Kaede's eyes shifted and saw a rather tired salary man suspiciously speed walk into a nearby street corner. Not too fast, but not too slow either, just like hurrying up in a mall. Once the cop was too busy checking a pulse of the knocked out goons, Kaede casually strode away, probably needing to visit the local police station in the following days.

That man, his round... rectangular... whatever glasses, he was extremely suspicious! It was Kaede's responsibility of a soon-to-be hero to investigate, following the office worker through a couple of streets until...

They reached Lavender Street, at her apartment building?! Was she being reverse-stalked, baited into an impending corner, about to be... to be... what do office workers want again?

Money?

Whatever, the guy looked a bit rugged, did he fight recently? There had to be an explanation, but Kaede couldn't make imaginary scenarios forever, the office worker would get away and that also meant escaping Kaede's questions!

Hmm, are you all guys a part of Hero Association already? I have some idea but it would involve a chopper to get done.

Kai had spent more than he would’ve liked shopping, both in time and money. Trying to find a place selling tatami in the neighborhood was a bust, and there was no way he would be able to carry enough to cover the entire dojo all the way from the main commercial district to the park, not while also balancing the other supplies or without dirtying them with blood. At least he managed to get everything else on the list, even if some venues didn’t want to serve someone that looked disheveled as he is.
“The tournament clothes should be enough now that I have to look reputable, but I still should get something for everyday use other than this gi. And maybe some way to repair them…”
As he got closer to the dojo, he could tell that there were signs of people inside already.
“Well, so much for fixing up the place before anyone showed up. Hope I can still make a good first impression anyway.”
Entering the building, he saw four high school students. There was a brow haired boy with a black eye slumped on the wall, with a skinny one holding a baseball bat standing above him. Next to them, there were a tall and muscular youth with a pompadour squatting with a lit cigarette and a fat guy with a pompadour with his arms crossed staring at the doorway. Before one of them could open their mouth, Kai took the initiative.
“Hey there kiddos, welcome to my dojo! Sorry about not being here when you arrived, I had errands to run. Put away the bat and cigarette and head over to that wall while I wake of our tired friend so we can start our first class.”
Now, Kai may not be smart, but he isn’t dumb. Those three look like delinquents that beat up the fourth kid. Still, there was a small chance that’s not the case, and he had been kicked out of dojos too many times because of assumptions to not give them the benefit of the doubt first.
“What did you just call me you tramp?! Think you can just move in on our turf and talk to us like that? You better change you attitude before we fix it for you!” The fat one responded to Kai’s surprise. Usually it’s the tall one in charge of these small time gangs “But you are lucky that I’m a forgiving man. I’ll let all of these insults go if you just give us a cut of this scam you are setting up.”
The other two thugs had moved to flank their leader while he was giving the ultimatum.
“I’ve been living here for years, and this is the first time anyone claimed this park as their territory. But if you three want something, how about a lesson of what happens when challenge a sensei in his own dojo?”

Kai makes the first move, he isn’t afraid of being outnumbered. He tries a leg sweep to the fatty, his off center of mass would make him easier to destabilize. However, the strong thug stops him by delivering a kick, followed by the fatty giving him a cross punch. Kai didn’t even feel the hits, but it stopped him from counter attacking. Meanwhile the one with a bat was circling him, aiming to hit him in the back of his hit. As soon as he swung, Kai suddenly turned and met it head on, quite literally. To the surprise of the delinquents, this also did not knock out the martial artist, but instead broke the bat in half, while he just smirked.
“What, never seen this trick before?”

The one with the baseball bat immediately panicked, falling to the ground and scurrying away, while the other two stood their ground. But that wouldn’t last long as the martial artist hit a roundhouse kick square in the tall one’s solar plexus. The fat one, enraged, tried to grapple Kai in response, however, he was met with an overhead throw, slamming him into the ground and knocking him out.

Kai went to where he had left the supplies he brought, picking up the first aid kit before heading towards the kid that was hurt. But he noticed that he was already awake for a while now, and the black eye was just from a punch, nothing serious.
“Hey there kid, sorry for not being here before to stop those idiots from messing with you. Are you all right?”
Kai said, as he offered his hand to help him get up.
