You are Daniel Cruz, a D-Class member of the Foundation, operating out of Site-21. Last mission you discovered pies that made you suicidal, nearly killed yourself because of them, and now you’re back at Site-21, waiting for whatever comes next.

You’re lying on your bed, thinking about the last mission. You tried to kill yourself after Simon forced you to eat one of the pies, and it was only because they held you down that you didn’t succeed. Though, if you hadn’t been forced to eat the pie, you might not have confirmed it was the pies behind everything. You’re still not sure if you should be mad about that.

There’s also something else that’s bugging you. After Simon fired his gun to prevent a crowd of shoppers from grabbing a pile of free pies, you ran to hide from any cops or witnesses that might come after you. But, after that, everything becomes a blur until you end up back at the vans ready to leave. Weird. Maybe it was just the stress of everything that made you forget. You haven’t been sent on anything for a few days now, which you guess is a relief, though it’s been plenty boring. Just like prison then.

Further thoughts are interrupted when the lights in your room go red. The speaker system, which you’ve never heard active before, suddenly starts blaring a loud and deep artificial voice.

ALERT. CONTAINMENT BREACH. REMAIN WHERE YOU ARE. CONTAINMENT BREACH. REMAIN WHERE YOU ARE. ALERT.

That can’t be good. You sit up in your bed to pay attention to what else the speaker is going to say, but it sounds like a looped message. Guess you better stay put. Who knows what’s going on in the rest of the facility. As you begin to make yourself comfortable you feel a strange fuzzy feeling go all over you, making your hair stand on end, before disappearing. What was that? You wait a moment to see if it reoccurs, but it doesn’t.

Your thoughts begin to wander again. Nothing’s happening other than the constant blaring of the alarm. Which, you suppose, is a good thing. But do they actually guard the D-Wing, or are you too far away from the experiment labs to feel the effects? What’s actually caused the containment breach? What was that strange feeling earlier? You’re getting so curious you’re starting to wonder if it wouldn’t be worth wandering around the D-Sphere when you notice someone outside your door. You look more closely at them in the red light. It’s…

>Agent Simon. What’s he doing here?
>A D-Boy. You’ve never seen him before.

It’s the Choco King. You haven’t seen him in a while. Some guys said he was on a mission or something, so you haven’t had the opportunity to give him the chocolate you grabbed from the last mission. You can’t remember grabbing it though, which is weird.

>Hey, I have some chocolates for you.

“I know. Come with me.”

He abruptly moves from the door and begins walking down the corridor. You get out of your bed, quickly grab the chocolates you have, and follow him. He’s not walking too fast, so you quickly manage to catch up, and quietly walk behind him as he heads to the ladder leading to the D-Sphere.

The D-Sphere. A “common room” of sorts for all you D-Boys, a giant hollow sphere where gravity sticks to the inside of the walls. It’s always disconcerting to look up and see people walking on the “roof” above you when you climb up the ladder. Looking at it now in the red light it strikes you as something that’s more than a little wrong, and memories of that dark void waiting beyond the broken walls you saw in the vision from the blue orb causes you to shiver. What is behind the walls of the D-Sphere?

The Sphere is quiet now, and there’s no D-Boys sitting at the benches around the place or walking to and fro like normal. Everyone’s huddled in a few large groups, or walking to one, and the Choco King is leading you to one of the bigger ones.

>Where are we going?

“Need to stay in a group. Keeps you safe.”

>Why?

“In case anomalies break through. There was one a few years ago that nearly killed everyone here. Now everyone sticks together.”

You remain silent as you reach the group of D-Boys. There doesn’t seem to be anything remarkable about them, and you recognise a lot of the faces you see here. Some of them nod at you and the Choco King as you join the group, but otherwise seem preoccupied with the conversations they’re having.
>>
>>5601719

The Choco King just grunts in return, and sits down at a table. You sit down next to him. You quickly grab the chocolates from your pocket and hand them to him.

>Got these on my last mission. Hope they’re okay.

The Choco King glances at them, and takes most, leaving only a couple for you to take back. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a lollipop. You take it from him and examine it. It has a big smiley face on the wrapper, and not much else.

“This will be useful. Use it when you need to.”

You nod your thanks and put it away. Now what? There isn’t much to do, and the Choco King isn’t a talkative guy, so you listen in on the conversations going on around you.

“Wonder what it is this time?”

“Man, Beast, or Artifact?”

“Betting artifact. Been a lot coming through recently.”

“I head they boosted the anti-mass spectrometer to 105%!”

You also take a look at the other groups in the D-Sphere. There’s two other big groups. The closest one is a fair few D-Boys standing around some kind of bright light source, across you on the far “wall” of the Sphere. The next is a group directly above you, smaller than your own and the other, with a couple small lights seemingly floating around them. You turn to the Choco King.

>What’s with the other two groups?

“One is trading. The other from the anomalous section. They come over to visit during lockdowns.”

You wait for him to elaborate, but he doesn’t. Right. Not talkative. He grabs one of the chocolates you gave him and begins eating it. Probably not going to get much more out of him.

What will you do next?

>Stick with your group. You’re probably safe with the Choco King.
>Head to the group with the big lights. Must be something interesting there.
>Go check out the smaller group. You wonder what those smaller lights are.
>Go off by yourself to look at the airlock. Are you able to explore the facility, or have they locked you in here?
>Ask some questions of the people around you before you make a decision. (Write in)
>>
>>5601721
>Ask the D-Boys in the Choco King's group "What was the last thing that breached and killed those people? Anybody know?"
>"What's an anti-mass spec?"
>"Which one's the anomalous group? The small lights one?" then go to that one to check them out.
We don't have enough loot to trade yet, and I refuse to chance the airlock.

You turn to the group of D-Boys around you.

>Hey. What was the last thing that breached and killed those people? Anybody know?

Most of them shake their heads and shrug. One old guy about your age walks up to you though.

“Oh, that thing from a few years ago? Killed almost everyone that was living here. Only a few of us still around from back then, what with tests and all. Was some kinda king kong ape man. Snuck in without anybody noticing. And, since everyone was staying put in their cells, it started ripping people to pieces pretty quickly. That’s why, if something gets through that door,” He points across the room towards the airlock, “we rush it and do our best to take it down.”

Another guy pipes up. “I heard they captured bigfoot.”

“Remind me, how many times have you gotten your mind wiped, Bob?”

Bob shrugs. “Uh, dunno.”

“Exactly. So shut the fuck up.”

>Oh. So you all got together and beat it?

“No. We were all scared shitless.” He points to the Choco King. “He could tell you more though, if he wanted to.”

>Why, what does he know?

“He was the one who killed it.”

You look back at the Choco King. He’s quietly eating way at the chocolate you gave him. The man isn’t thin, but he’s no weight lifter. You’re suddenly starting to reconsider just how dangerous the man is.

>Okay. What’s an anti-mass spectrometer?

This time another D-Boy walks over, a glasses wearing guy, in his 30s or 40s by the look of it.
“A device that analyses exotic materials. Very important piece of quipment. Room sized, big energy array. Located in the Anomalous Materials Laboratory. And I doubt they boosted it to 105%, to do such a thing would risk a resonance cascade, which would be catastrophic in the least. Administration isn’t that foolish. Though I’m surprised you’re interested in it.”

>You seem to know a lot about it.

The man shrugs. “I used to work there. Emphasis used to. Got demoted. No, I’m not willing to talk about it.”

He wanders off and starts insulting the guy who claimed they were boosting it. They really demote their own people to D-Class? You turn back to the guy who survived the ape-man.

>So, which one's the anomalous group? The small lights one?

He nods. “Yeah, that’s them. One of them can summon small lights. The big light is the shopkeep, he comes here whenever there’s a lockdown like this.”

You thank him and get up to go see the anomalous group. Before you do, he grabs your arm and stops you.

“By the way, word of advice. Don’t talk about either group with the guards. Best not make any trouble, for yourself especially.”
>>
>>5603124

You quickly nod and he lets you go. You walk over to the anomalous group, on the far “wall” of the D-Sphere. You can see that most of them don’t seem to be completely anomalous, there’s only a few with obvious abilities, with a crowd of regular D-Boys surrounding them. They’re divided into several small groups, but they’re all sticking pretty close together nonetheless. As you join the crowd you get a better look at them.

The small lights are actually little jets of blue flame that are darting all over the place. It seems like they’re being controlled by a girl, sitting on the floor and moving her hands with the motion of the flames. Every once in a while she flourishes, and the flames perform a complicated series of manoeuvres around the group that makes everyone clap.

Then there’s a very serious looking crowd around two normal looking guys, but judging by the intense expressions of the people around them they must have something going on. It’s more like a line now that you pay attention, going up to one, talking to him, then walking away with an expression of relief or fear on their faces.

There’s also a guy with a chicken’s head sitting at a table drinking a beer with some other guys. You blink. Yes, that’s definitely a chicken’s head. Everybody's chatting and drinking with him like it's totally normal.

The one with the biggest crowd though is a bearded man who’s seemingly in charge of the food supply for this little group. He’s handing out sandwiches, drinks, and all sorts of food to everyone around him, but even though you’re looking straight at him you can’t see where he’s getting everything from.

You almost don’t notice him, but there’s a guy standing a little further apart from everyone else, smoking a cigarette. There doesn’t seem to be anything strange about him, but there’s notably nobody with him, and people seem reluctant to look in his direction.

Who do you want to approach? (Pick TWO)

You wanna talk it out? I'll start. My logic on chicken head (cock head lmao) is both because his anomalousness is the most apparent on his body, and because he has the beer. The pyro girl is cool and all, but they might be busy keeping the lights going here. The two normal guys with serious lines of people and their reactions... it gives me a vibe of "these two can see the future or dictate fate, or some similar anomalous power to affect people", and I want to avoid that shit 100%. Bearded hammerspace food guy is cool and all, but he has the biggest group and it might be harder to catch him not busy enough to have a convo.

You decide to walk over to the Chicken Head first. You can’t resist talking to a guy like that, and his group seems to be pretty relaxed. There’s several cans of beers on the table, and they’re all laughing and chatting without any worry, and despite the fact that his head is a chicken’s he seems to have no trouble talking to the rest of the crowd around him. He’s even got a can of beer in his hand, which he regularly pours down his… beak. You knew to expect some weird things in this place every now and then, but this is out there even for you. Still, you’re curious enough to approach the group and say hello.

“So, if you blink, it snaps your neck.”

“Bull!”

“No, it does! I have it on good authority! Got a buddy who sweeps the place all the time.” The Chicken Headed guy suddenly turns to you. Guess having eyes in the side of your head work out for peripheral vision.

“Hello! A new Boy? Welcome! Come and have a drink!” He grabs a beer from the table and hands it to you. You gladly grab it and sit down in an empty chair.

“Don’t get many senior citizens here. Haven’t seen you before. You new here or been around a while and we just haven't caught you before?”

>Been with the Foundation only a few months, actually.

“Ah. Welcome aboard then! Live long and prosper! Though there’s not many here who manage that.” You eagerly nod in response.

>Excuse me if everyone asks you this, but how did-

He chuckles, and points to his head. “Oh, this? Got it in ‘Nam. Cursed by a village elder for something or other, and then got locked up by Uncle Sam when I started shooting the villagers. Foundation took me soon after that. Cool bastards.”
>>
>>5605672

>So, um, how do you talk and, uh, all the rest?

“You mean eat and drink, and see? With difficulty. If you mean “how” it works, then no clue. The lab-coats haven’t bothered to tell me. I don’t even know where the chicken ends and the man begins. I’m one of the luckier Poor Boys I guess, get sent on the same missions as the rest of them but I’m probably not going to get killed by this. It could always be worse. I’ve a friend back in Hazardous Containment who has an octopus for a head. Can’t even speak. Oh, and I’ve forgotten to introduce myself. Richardson.” He gives you a firm handshake.

You vigorously shake back.

>Daniel Cruz.

“So, why’d you come over here? The regular Boys too boring for you? Interested in us Poor Boys? Or just here to have a friendly drink?”

>Well, I’m curious by nature, and I don’t have much to trade with the shopkeep over there, so I thought I’d come over here. And you guys seem to be having a fun time, so I thought I’d join you.

“Ah, good idea. We’re all D-Boys trying to survive here. Friends of a kind. Every one of us has some kind of story to tell, with all the tests and procedures they put us through. People come and go, and there’s so many faces you never see again, so it’s good to have someone new. So let’s drink while we can!”

You raise your beer to that. You continue talking to Richardson for a little while longer. It’s a little disconcerting having a conversation with someone when you can’t even look them in the eye, or read any facial expressions, but you think you manage well enough.

What do you talk to Richardson about?

>His time in ‘Nam.
>The rest of the “Poor Boys” around you.
>The lockdown and why they came here.
>What the section for the anomalous D-Boys are like.
>(Write in.)
>>
>>5605673

After you’re done with Richardson, you say goodbye and walk over to the guy smoking alone. He’s thin and pale, almost ghoul like in appearance. You wonder what his ability is?
You walk over and say hello, holding out your hand. He looks at it, but doesn’t take it, instead taking a long drag of his cigarette.

“Sorry guv, no can do.” He’s got a strong British accent. You wonder what he did to end up here?

>Why not?

“Can’t touch anyone, ‘less they want to be shunted. And I’m guessin’ you don’t.”

>No, I guess not. So what is it you do?

“I’m the ferryman, guv. Ron’s the name. I get everyone here from where they keep us, then get ‘em back once this is over. Thankless job it is. Having to break through the wards they set up here is a pain. And then there’s that other stuff…”

>Teleporting seems pretty powerful. They really keep you as a D-Boy?

“They do, but only ‘cause they don’t know about it. S’why I only do it during lockdowns. Nobody watching you.”

>Then why are you with the rest of the Poor Boys?

“Cause ‘o this.” He holds up the cigarette. “Was a test they did, and now I can’t eat nothing. Have to smoke these cigarettes till I die now, they’re the only thing keepin’ me alive. Bloody awful existence it is.”

He takes another long drag of his cigarette.
“So that’s my story. Hey, you’re brave enough to walk up to me and seem like a good bloke. So how ‘bout this. I know where they keep all their storage here. There’s a lot of good stuff down there. Stuff that nobody’s going to miss. If I ‘port you there, would you grab a bunch of stuff and bring it back? We’ll split the loot and sell it to whoever wants it. What do ya say?”

You take a moment to think.

>Yes, take the offer. You need to get more stuff to trade, and this might be a good opportunity for it.

“Ah, old war stories then? Well okay. Spent, uh, I think 5 years there? Yeah, about 5 years. Gets a bit hazy after a while, y’know? Well anyway, spent about 5 years there, with the 9th cav. Crazy fuckin’ CO. Anyway, it was what you’d think. Shootin’ those fuckin’ gooks, all the goddamn time. Or bored out of our minds, nothing to do but patrol around the base or whatever else they wanted you to do.

So I spent time across the country. Getting sent in to clear a village, defend a base, evac some guys. Even got a few medals though they didn’t let me keep them when I got here. And we heard all sorts of stories about guys who either went off reservation or became real badasses. All kinds. Hell, I heard one of a some officer who crossed the border and made the natives start worshipping him. Nuts.

And shit, I’ll let you in on a secret. A lot of people won’t talk about this, but workin’ for the Foundation has got me thinking, and I’ve started to connect the dots. So, we’re in there ‘cause we got to help out the Vietnamese right? The commies in the North want to take over, and we gotta help out the South. Except we get there and the best military in the world is struggling to beat some shitty country that no-one’s ever heard of before. How long was World War II? 6 years? And America was in it for 3. The world’s biggest countries doing their best to crush each other into the dirt, and we came out on top. But now Uncle Sam is struggling to kick the ass of some tiny rice farmers. That doesn’t add up to me. But you know what I think?

There was something there. Something in the jungle. And I’m not talking about the Viet Cong. See, we ground troops never crossed the northern border. Not once. That was up to the Air Force, bombing the shit out of everything. Doesn’t that seem weird to you? We’re there to help out the South, okay, but there was no way we were winning that war unless we ground those commie bastards into dust. But we didn’t do it. Weren’t allowed to. But they kept bombing it from the air. Constant bombing and bombing and bombing. Burning the jungle to the ground. But not one foot over the little line dividing North from South.

It makes you wonder. See, we heard all sorts of rumours about the guys who went north. Guys who got close to that border. They couldn’t sleep. Whispers coming from the trees. They suffered more casualties than usual. More guys shooting themselves out of despair. A lot of spooky shit.

Now, I always thought that was just them being wimps, yeah? Or maybe there was just more of those damn Viet Cong up there than anywhere else. Some simple explanation to it.

Until I went there myself.

My squad, we got sent to a forward base in the area. Sizeable, but not massive. Spent a couple weeks there, going to villages, raiding VC bases. One day we went out on patrol. When we came back, the base was empty. Nobody left. Just a lot of blood everywhere. Of course we got told it was a VC attack and we were lucky we weren’t there. But that base… something wrong happened there. You could feel it.

I got told to forget about it, and I sort of did, until I ended up here. Made me rethink everything I saw. And some of the things I heard. Bullshit stories that can't possible be true, but leave you that one wriggling bit of doubt. But anyway.”

He turns his head to look at you and raises his beer. It's a little confusing to look into the eyes of a giant chicken. “To unknown mysteries!”

You raise your in response and take a long gulp. That was certainly some story.
>>
>>5608846

Ron’s offer. Should you take it or not? It’s not like you’ve ever done something like this before. Robbed a giant organisation that locks up unimaginable horrors and supernatural beasts and anomalies. On the other hand, you do need more stuff to trade…

>Sure. Why not?

You extend your hand for a shake.

“Uh uh, not yet! Got to tell you the rules first. Okay, so you gotta be careful. They don’t like us D-Boys getting out during breaches, so you got to avoid the guards. If you get lucky, they’ll stun you. You get unlucky, they shoot you. But there shouldn’t be anyone down there.

To get there you touch me and you’ll be ‘ported to the storage area. Big basement level full of stuff. Should be easy to navigate. When you want to come back, you put this in your mouth.”

He hands you a smooth oval stone of polished black. You can even see your reflection in it.

“And I’ll bring you back here. Oh, wait a sec.” He runs over to the guy handing out food, getting there quickly as the crowd parts around him. He says a few quick things and gets given a backpack. You blink. How the hell do you pull that out of thin air? In any case, Ron’s quickly running back with the backpack in tow.

“Here you go. So you can carry more stuff. Okay, you ready? Just take my hand. And do not, whatever you do, open your eyes when I’m shunting you. Very bad idea guv, and I’d hate to lose you. Anyway, let’s get this done!”

You take his hand. You instantly feel dizzy as the world disappears around you in a blur, and as you close your eyes you feel yourself falling through space, feeling subtle pricks all over your skin. You’re falling a lot faster now. There’s something pulling you down, but the only thing you hear is silence. Not even the wind whistling in your ear. You’re starting to wonder if this was a good idea…

You suddenly gain a sense of weight pulling down on you, and feel something solid beneath your feet. You slowly open your eyes.

You’re in a concrete corridor, typical of Site-21. The red emergency lights are still in place, though there’s no emergency broadcasts. Ahead of you the corridor leads to a cross intersection, branching off to two other corridors on either side and one opposite. You turn around. In front of you is a thick metal door labelled ANOMALOUS STORAGE. Great. Looks like you’re going to have to find a way inside.

You try the door. Locked. There’s a keypad nearby. Guess you’re going to need a code for that. You direct your eyes to the floor, in the hopes that someone’s left a convenient paper with the door code on it. No such luck. You turn back to examine the door itself.

It’s solid metal, the kind of door you imagine you’d find in some secure government facility. Which, you suppose, this is. Some very solid looking hinges on it too, probably so it’s easy to open and shut something that heavy. There’s a window in it, and peering through you can see a darkened room that has all sorts of vague shapes inside. The window itself looks too thick to break with your arms though, and even if you could it probably wouldn’t be a good idea risking cutting yourself on it.

Well damn. You might be able to break through the glass if you had something heavy, but you’re probably not going to find something like that lying around. That, and you want to keep evidence you were here to a minimum.

You’re standing in front of the door wondering what to do when you suddenly hear footsteps in the distance. You pause and look back at the intersection. They’re getting closer. Coming from the corridor to your right. Shit. Guards?

The corridors have pillars built into them. Big enough you could hide in them. But you have no idea where whoever is coming is going. If you pick the wrong corridor they’re bound to notice you. Alternatively, you could explore the facility. You have the stone and if something goes wrong you can get back quick. It’d be a good idea to get a better layout of the general area at least, and maybe you’ll find something that can get you in?

What will you do?

>Try your luck on the door code. It’s a longshot, but you don’t have many choices. 1 roll per id.
>Run down one of the other corridors and see where it leads you. Maybe you’ll find something useful down them? (Which one?)
>Hide in one of the corridors and wait to see who it is. Maybe they’ll open up the door? Or maybe they’ll pass you by. (Which one?)
>Put the stone in your mouth and get back. You can’t get to storage, no sense in risking it.

You start pressing buttons. After 3 it beeps unencouragingly. Guess it’s a 3 digit combination. Can’t be that hard, that means there’s only 1000 possible combinations, right?

You quickly start punching in as many combinations as you can think of. Every moment the steps from the hallway are growing louder and louder. Can they hear the keypad beeping? Maybe they won’t hear over the sound of their own footsteps. Do the guards have a shoot on sight order? Shit. You shouldn’t have done this. Your hands are starting to shake as you continue pressing buttons at random, and you’re sure it’s not from your old age.

“You! What are you doing here? Step away from that door!”

You freeze. Shit. Shit. Caught red handed.

You slowly turn around to face the voices.

There’s two armed men in front of you. They look different to the normal guards. They’re kitted out in black overalls and body armour and have mean looking rifles cradled in their arms. Their faces are covered by hooded gasmasks. You’ve never seen a Foundation guard with that kind of gear before. They look like they could tear you to shreds in under a second, and the biggest inconvenience would be cleaning up your blood.

They’re pointing their guns at you, but haven’t shot yet. You guess that’s a good thing?

“It’s a D-Boy. What the hell’s he doing out of lockup? How did he get here?”

“Doesn’t matter. Hands up!”
>>
>>5625422
You quickly obey. You don’t want to be on the receiving end of some bullets, that’s for sure. They keep their guns aimed at you however, and don’t move forward.

“What do we do with him? Last sighting was in this area and I don’t want a D-Boy tagging along.”

“It’s probably moved somewhere else. And he might know something. He’s got to know his way around here if he managed to get all the way. Besides, not like that old fogey’s running anywhere."

You briefly think about complaining at that last remark but common sense gets the better of you. You remain quiet as the two approach you.

“So what were you doing with that door?”

You’re wondering how to answer when you hear loud footsteps coming from the lefthand corridor. They sound like they’re in a hurry. One of the men in front of you turns around and pulls the charging handle of his gun.

“Shit. Quicker than expected.”

He moves forward and levels his gun at the end of the corridor. The man has some good training, that you can see. What’s going on? You’re about to ask just that when you see a light quickly shine down the opposite corridor, before disappearing. Strange. It didn’t look like a flashlight. The man next to you, instead of interrogating you or helping his friend moves to the door you were just at and produces some strange device that attaches itself to the keypad. He doesn’t seem to be paying attention to you while he fiddles with it. You suddenly hear his radio crackle.

“Alert. Suspected hostiles in Sector G. Area 7. Anomaly still undetected.”

What are you going to do?

>Point out the light to the two men.
>Use the opportunity to make a run for it down one of the corridors. (Which?)
>Keep quiet and wait and see what happens.
>Write in?

Extremely sorry about the delay, hopefully posting will go back to normal for now.

Hello everyone, just checking in. Very sorry for not updating for the past week, between my business and Easter it's been difficult to actually sit down and write something, but I should be properly back on schedule now.

Not sure if I should continue in posting in this thread or make a new one since it's been so long, please comment with what you'd prefer.

Either way, an update coming tomorrow and hopefully back to a normal pace from then on.

We've still got a few pages to go before we fall off. A heads-up to let us know you were still alive during the week would have been nice since about a week of silence tends to be when I write off threads as probably not resuming. Depends on how many are still here in thread.

You decide to point out the light in the distance. These guys must know something about that, right?

>Hey, what’s that light over there?

As soon as you say “light”, the two men immediately tense up and look in your direction. You can’t tell beneath their gasmasks, but it seems they’re none too happy about it.

“Where?”

You point.

>Down the corridor.

As you do so the light briefly shines again before disappearing. They see it and look back to you. The sound of those running footsteps are getting closer.

“Shit, what do we do?”

The one watching the entrance looks back again just as the light reappears. It almost looks closer this time. He walks up to you and points.

“Alright. When we get that door open, you get out of here, yeah? We don’t want you here. Head to the light, it’ll keep you safe from those guys that are coming. Or you can try running down the other corridor. Doesn’t really matter. Just get out of here.”

As he finishes you see the light shine again, and again, down the corridor. It’s become bright enough that the walls around you are briefly illuminated by it. As it touches you there’s a slight tugging on your skin, almost as if you’re being buffeted by some wind.

Before you can react, a group of armed men round the intersection and catch sight of you. Guess those were the running footsteps from earlier.

It’s a squad of regular Foundation guards, though they’re more well-armed than the ones that patrol the area near the D-Sphere. They’re armed with rifles, instead of the usual pistols and shotguns carried by regular guards, and their reflective face visors are down.

“Shit! We’ve got hostiles!”

They raise their guns, aiming it at you and the other two, but before they can fire the light at the other end of the corridor flares again, blinding you as you feel an even stronger tug all over you. For some reason the guards don’t open fire, though you can almost see a slight shimmering of their silhouettes in front of you. After what feels like an age the light goes away, and you take in a deep breath.

“It’s here, it’s fucking here! Go!”

You don’t know who yelled that out, the two with you or one of the guards in front. Regardless, you hear the door behind you slide open, and the guards start retreating back to the lefthand corridor.

What will you do?

>Run into the light. That man said it was safe, and you need to get out of here before somebody opens fire.
>Surrender to the guards. You think you’ll at least be safe with them.
>Run down the righthand corridor. You have to get out of here, and the light probably has the guards occupied.
>Try following the two men into the storage room. You still need to grab something for all this trouble.
>Write in?

>go into storage room with two GOI goons

>work with GOI goons to loot
>tell them we have way out
>have them hold hands and close eyes
>pebble out

>yell at fellow D-Boys to get their asses
>overwhelm both with sheer numbers
>let violent D-Boys unleash on the pair
>secure two brutalized GOI agents for Foundation
>secure quality loot
>secure massive cred

>>
>>5636569
So much could go wrong with that plan and it probably wouldn't even be worth it in the end. This whole situation has been a disaster. We should've used the stone before the guards arrived, now they've seen us or at least know there was a D-Boy walking around with enemy agents. We're so fucked if they survive.
>>
To hell with it. You’re getting in that damn storage room. You turn away from the light, which has reduced from a blinding flare to a small floating glow of some kind, to the door behind you. The two men you’ve found yourself with are already rushing through, and you quickly run after them. As you do, you see the reflection of another flash from the light, brief this time, and you’re somehow filled with a feeling of immense cold, and that tugging.

“Close the fucking door, close it!”

Over the threshold, you turn around and push the door back into place, keeping an eye on the light as you do. It’s beginning to pulse. Slowly at first, but as it increases in intensity it starts to shine brighter and brighter. That feeling of terror hasn’t left you, and if anything has only become worse as you stare at it through the glass of the door. Just as you’re about to shut it you start to hear screams coming from the corridor those guards went down, and even as you close it fully you can still hear the muffled shouts through the door.

You turn back to the two men you’ve been trapped with, suddenly realising that your chest is heaving and you’re covered in sweat. By the looks of things they’ve had the same reaction too. You all take a moment to catch your breath. After a few moments, one of them looks at you. The light is still pulsing through the window.

“Find something to cover that door. And don’t look at it!”

You quickly obey. There’s some shelves near the door, and you grab a cardboard box from one of them, quickly tipping out the contents which seem to be bits of metal gears, and cover the door with the unfolded cardboard. Some light is still shining through, but you hope it won’t be an issue.

Only now do you take a moment to examine your surroundings. You’re in a large room, about 2 stories high, and rows of shelves with all sorts of things on them. The light aren’t on, and the end of the room is covered in darkness somewhere ahead.

You approach the two men and one of them glances in your direction. It’s hard to tell the difference between them beneath their gasmasks. He points at you.

“You. Don’t get in our way. But stick close. Don’t want you setting something off.”

He then waits for you to walk closer while the other pulls a flashlight out and shines it at a piece of paper he has in his hand. Looks like they’re here for something.

What will you do?

>Talk to them. (About what?)
>Do as they say and keep quiet. Better not piss these guys off.
>Wait for an opportunity to hide from view and start grabbing whatever seems interesting.
>Write in?

You’re not going any further without knowing more. Armed guards, a light that makes you feel like your soul is being sucked out, these two guys… Not what you bargained for at all.

>"What the hell is that thing?!"

One of them shrugs. “Anomaly. Got loose. Worst fuckin’ time for it too…”

The other’s more forthcoming with an answer. “Lighthouse anomaly. You get them from time to time. Usually warning of something dangerous nearby. Though they’re not supposed to move around. Don’t know what the bastards here were doing with it, maybe they made it that way, wouldn’t put it past the skippers. But even then it should be locked up tight, can’t believe that got loose in the breach. Sure teaches us to be more careful next time.”

>"Why shouldn't I look at it?"

“Well, us two are the last of a full squad that was trying to get here. They looked straight at it, started screaming, then got sucked into it. And the skippers are sounding pretty panicked on the radio. And if they’re worried, we need to be worried too. Best not risk anything in those situations.”

You nod in response. Sound advice.

>"What are you guys looking for, maybe I can help find it? The more eyes the more chance of finding it quicker."

The two men turn to look at each other.

“What do you think?”

“He’s a D-Boy… so harmless enough. Guess it can’t hurt.”

“I don’t want him running off with anything. Who knows what else they keep here.”

“Nothing too dangerous, those are in the lower levels. Nothing but Safes here, if they even keep any proper skips. Besides, what’s he going to do, call the guards so they can shoot him too?”

“Alright then.”

They turn to look at you.

“We’re looking for a metal orb. About the size of a bowling ball, maybe a little smaller. In a box most likely, something labelled Project Brown Book, or Operation Topaz. Maybe something under the name of Dr. Aloysius Wong, or Dr. Valery Renfield. Anything with those names will be of interest to us. And if you do find it, don’t touch it! Don’t touch anything else either. We’ll be keeping an eye on you.”

They then pull out flashlights and begin shining them at the shelves, walking down them slowly as they examine each one. Before you go searching, you quickly think to ask them one more thing.

>"Can I have a gun?"

They turn to look at you, and you can swear you can feel the glare from one of them through his gasmask. The other one is quietly chuckling to himself.

“Hah, good one. No.”

With that they go back to walking down the shelves, intensely looking at each one they pass. You decide to start looking around, making sure you keep in view so they don’t get suspicious.

You get to it. Though they weren’t kind enough to give you a flashlight of your own, the meagre amount of light slipping past the cardboard over the door and the ambience from their torches is enough that you’re able to see what you’re looking at, though you have to squint to read text.

There’s a lot here, so you methodically go through each shelf, looking for anything that mentions the things the two men told you about. Unfortunately, this is a pretty big room, and there are a lot of shelves. There’s all sorts of boxes and chests, some unlabelled, containing God knows what. You open a few boxes out of curiosity, but it seems that most of the contents are junk. In one you find a pen, a clothes hangar, and several ping-pong balls. In another are several origami dragons. You leave them untouched, just in case.

There’s a few dates on these things too. Most of them are recent, some from the 60s and 50s, others from the wartime years. There’s even one you find engraved on a thick wooden chest that’s so worn you can only make out 17-. How old is that thing?

Eventually, you come across something that might be of use. It’s a small wooden box, the label is from 1 March 1962, and it has the words OPERATION TOPAZ printed on it. You quickly snatch at the paper pinned to it. Sure enough, printed in extremely faded letters is the name of the supervising specialist, Dr
Aloysius Wong. Location of Recovery: Burma. You open the box.

Inside are several sheafs of paper, seemingly boring data sheets you can’t figure out, but at the very bottom is a small case. You lift it out and open it. Inside is a kitchen knife. You quickly put it back and shut the box. Don’t want those two looking over and noticing you’ve got a knife in your hands.

It seems they’re not really paying much attention to you, just flashing their light against the shelves and examining some things, just like you are. You’re about to go back to doing that yourself when you hear something over the speakers.
>>
>>5639746

Alert. Alert. Anomalous activity reported in Sector 14-C. Security and Containment Teams to Sector 14. Facility Lockdown still in effect.

Great. They’re sending more guards to the area. Seems like the two men are also worried, as you overhear them start talking.

“How the hell are we going to get out of here? This place is going to be crawling with skippers if we don’t get out pronto”

“We’ll find a way. But no shooting our way out, unless you’re getting sick of things and want to end it quickly. But I don’t.”

“That’s a bad joke. Security’s going to be extra tight even if we do find a way. You think they’re not watching maintenance anymore, or checking everyone who goes in and out?”

“Maybe. We'll have to find out. There’s still the caches, though I don’t know how full they are. Now hush. We still have a friend with us, remember?”

You quickly become interested in a box right in front of you. They don’t carry on the conversation however, so you continue to search the shelves.

After a few more minutes you find a large box, this time with PROJECT: BROWN BOOK carved into it. Jackpot? You open it up. Inside is a metal sphere, perfectly smooth, but unreflective. Guess this must be what they were looking for. A thought pops into your mind, and you try pushing the box. It gives easily. That thing must be extremely light, even though it’s seemingly made of metal. Guess there’s more to it than meets the eye.

Now that you’ve found some items of interest, what will you do?

>Inform the two men of your finds. They did let you help out after all.
>Keep it to yourself and pretend you haven’t found anything. You could find out more if they don’t know you’ve found it.
>Take the knife and quietly hide the metal sphere. Maybe it’s not a good idea letting strangers steal from the Foundation.

maybe we even don't take the knife with us but hide it behind some boxes who knows how anomalous objects react to teleportation

I don't think its a good idea to hand anything to these guys considering they're not from the Foundation.

Maybe we shouldn't be a complete Foundation bootlicker I mean you guys still remember the pie incident right?

Besides what the hell are we even going to do with the sphere? No way in hell the foundation lets us keep it and if they find out we have it they going to start asking questions we are not prepared to answer.

They might take our sphere, anon. I want to ponder it.

These two assholes just tried to get us killed by suggesting we either run towards the light or the guards.

You decide that it wouldn’t be a good idea to let these men know about your discoveries after all. For one, you don’t actually know who they work for, or even what they really want. Hell, for all you know this could be a plot to blow up the entire Site, and you wouldn’t want to help with that if only for your own self-preservation. And those guys were discussing the merits of just shooting you earlier.

You take the box with the metal sphere in it and look for somewhere to hide it. It’s so light that you feel you could carry it in one hand even. The shelves are very packed though, and you don’t want to make too much noise in case the two men notice. Eventually, you decide to keep it simple and open the contents of a box next to it and switch the contents. Even if they do come here and open it up they’ll only find a bunch of papers and vials from a Project 008. That should keep the sphere safe. Who knows, maybe this will be the last time someone will ever set eyes on it again? This room is so dusty you wouldn’t be surprised if you and the other two were the first to step in here for years.

You also make sure to move back to the Burma box. Reaching in, you take the knife and put it in your backpack. It could come in use later. That done, you resume looking through the shelves for anything interesting. Might as well pretend you’re still looking, though you don’t understand anything of what you’re reading. For instance, there’s an entire shelf that’s nothing but books upon books about a “Blackwood slug”. Whatever that is. You finally make up your mind to take one and start reading when you notice the two men starting to walk over.

“Found anything?”

>Uh, no, sorry. Nothing. There’s a lot of stuff here.

“You’re telling us. What we need could be anywhere.”

The two then pointedly ignore you and start discussing the situation.

“I don’t like it. This was supposed to be a job for a full team, not two of us and a D-Boy. And security’s going to be down here any minute, I can feel it.”

“Seems so. We’ve got a few things, so not a total loss. But we should keep on moving, bad idea to stay in one place, much less when its owned by the skippers. The room might start growing.”

“That light’s gone at least. We better get going then.”

They turn back to you.

“D-Boy! You’re with us. Can’t risk you running off and blabbing, so you stay close now, or else. Let’s go.”

You follow them as they walk towards the door, weapons at the ready. Moving with the quick ease of professionals, they unlock it with a quiet click and move to check the intersection. There’s nothing there, not even bodies. They pause a moment to check you’re still with them, before continuing down the lefthand corridor. Guess they know where they’re going.

What will you do now?

>Keep quiet and follow the men. You still want to see what they’re up to and what they’re going to do.
>Wait for an opportune moment and attack one of them. You’ve got a weapon now, might as well use it. Hell, you imagine the gear they’re carrying must be valuable too.
>Pretend to follow them, but slip away as soon as you can to use the stone. Time you were away from here.

If we stick with them, there's one of three possible outcomes:
1. They shoot us when we're no longer useful and we die
2. They use us as a distraction or bait and we die
3. We encounter an MTF or guards and we all die
.....none of which I want to stick around for
>>
>>5642264
also gotta say is the Foundation really this careless with their SCP-008 materials to just leave them lying around in an unsecure storeroom? Doesn't seem like them given how dangerous that shit is.

To be fair, the room wasn't unsecured, it was deep in the bowels of the facility behind a 4 digit code locked containment door.
>>
>>5642943
I somehow completely forgot about that and thought it was basically an oversized basement broom cupboard. Still, that these chaps (what GoI do we think they are, anyway?) have gotten down here proves it's vulnerable and it seems to have been completely forgotten about amongst a lot of junk. But I suppose nothing can be completely secure.

They would most likely just want to shoot us anyway.

they are absolutely going to shoot us

If we survive we're going to tell the scp foundation what happened and that could jeopardise those guys whole mission

You decide it’s best to play along, for now. But as soon as you get an opportunity you’re running away and using that stone. You hope getting back is easier then being sent here, you don’t want to end up locked outside or in a wall.

The two men are walking purposefully down the corridors without pause, seems like they know where they’re going. They haven’t even checked to see if you’re still following them, and you think about slowing down and simply disappearing at an intersection but you get the feeling that they’ll know. These guys are too alert to fall for something like that, and even if they weren’t you don’t want to risk getting filled with lead on a vague probability.

You’re starting to get anxious that you won’t be able to slip away at all when you and the intruders come across a dark corridor without any lights. The two operatives quickly get out their flashlights and illuminate several bodies slumped against the walls and lying across the floor. There’s a lot of blood here, and bullet holes pepper the walls. It’s a massacre.
There’s two distinct types of bodies, one is the facility guards, and the other, more numerous group, are several men dressed like the two you’re accompanying. They themselves quickly move closer to examine the bodies.

“A second team?”

“Didn’t know there was one here. You sure?”

“Yeah, I know this guy. He was on an op back in 69’. Dark Forest. These are our guys all right.”

You stand and watch for a few moments before realising that this is your chance. They’re too engrossed in the scene in front of you to still be paying attention to what you’re doing. Slowly, and then more surely, you back away from the corridor. They don’t notice. You start walking backwards more quickly, and then once you’ve reached the last intersection, you rush at random down one of the corridors.

You don’t know how long it’s been when you finally stop. A few minutes? Maybe longer. You didn’t hear any shouts or gunshots. You got away with it. You quickly open your backpack and grab the stone. You ignore the case with the knife in it. Wonder what that does. You put the stone in your mouth and wait. It dissolves, quickly, almost like chocolate. You blink and suddenly you’re back in the D-Sphere, Ron standing in front of you.

“Hey! You’re back. Was starting to get a little worried there. You good?”

You quickly nod in response and take a step back. All you managed to grab was the knife, but you know there’s some non-Foundation operatives running about somewhere, plus got to experience the anomaly first hand. What should you do?

>Tell him everything, and show him the knife. Maybe he knows what you should do with it, or maybe something to trade?
>Say you weren’t able to get to the storage room and didn’t find anything. You want to keep this to yourself.
>You need to warn the guards! You need to get some kind of word out at least. Ask Ron or some of the other D-Boys to help you out.

Think about how much telling the guards could fuck us (and others) over in the aftermath.
There's gonna be a shitload of questions that we have no acceptable answers to. Wouldn't surprise me if there were a few executions too.

The Foundation is well aware, you don't get into major gun battles in the facility without hearing about it. I echo >>5645041 reasoning, we'd have to explain ourselves and that's more likely than not to bite us on the behind in a major way for no gain and it'd also entail ratting out Ron's teleportation.

I'm half convinced some of you guys are actively trying to screw us over by picking the blatantly bad choices. Why the hell would we alert the people who's list of duties includes killing us if we do things we aren't supposed to that we did exactly what we aren't supposed to?
