Previously on Saiyan Conqueror Quest:

Chilli met with some of his allies while Karn was visiting, then after they left Karn returned home only to see his youngest controlling his Super Saiyan Three power. After sparring with his youngest, and imparting a valuable life lesson to him. Then, after a week of peace, Karn senses the Tamaranean Queen Komand'r approaching New Salda with an army at her back. Escorting her and her thousand warriors in, she then accuses her sister of murdering a diplomat among other offenses. However, Karn managed to outplay the Tamaranean Queen, ending with him sending the tracker that was inside Kori into her older sister. As we rejoin Karn, it is the next day. The first day of the new year.

“Hey Dad, are you up?” your son Chilli asks, reaching out to you telepathically from his homeworld.
“Of course, just finished my morning training with your older sister.” you reply, pressing the button to turn off the shower. “Why, what's going on?”
“Oh, nothing's wrong. It's just...” he says, then hesitates. You can feel a bit of uncertainty through the mental link, as if your son's trying to choose what he'll tell you. “Today's Meloka Wolbach's birthday. And I was hoping you and everyone else would be able to come by today?”

“Birthday?” you ask him, raising a brow in confusion while drying yourself off. “What's that?”
“It's a holiday celebrated here on the day of your birth. Apparently, every year the people close to you celebrate you living for another whole year.”
“Every year?” you ask, wondering for a moment just old you are. And how you would have even kept up with such a thing. Perhaps the PTO may have these things in their records?
“Yes, there's food and presents, extended family all coming in to celebrate with you and your immediate family.” he tells you. “We're going to have the party here in an hour or so, so what do you think? Will you come?”

“Of course, I'll be there. Along with everyone else who wants to join in.” you tell him, then after a moment's consideration add. “After we all have breakfast over here. I know the Crimson Demon Village is ill equipped to handle so many Saiyan appetites.”
“I appreciate that. That's a lot less Megu and I'll have to prepare.” he replies, your son's happiness at hearing you're not missing this apparent. “What time is it there for you all?”
“Still early, just about to go and get breakfast ourselves.” you tell him, getting dressed and exiting the shower room a moment behind your eldest daughter. Who is actually humming something to herself while skipping towards your home ship's mess. “We'll be ready to head over in maybe thirty minutes, when do you want us over?”

“Then'll be fine, just let me know before you teleport everyone in.” he replies to you, then you sense his mind distance for a moment. You don't recognize who he reaches out to, then comes back. “I gotta get a few more things ready, see you when you get here.”
“I will.” you reply as he ends the mental link, wondering who else he was talking to. But then that train of thought is interrupted, as your eldest has stopped and is turned around, looking at you.
“Who was it?” she asks, brow cocked curiously. “ Something up”
“That was your brother, Chilli. He's invited us all down for a “birth day” celebration for your niece, she's apparently a year old today.”

“Wait, little Meloka Wolbach's a whole year old already! Time sure flies!” she replies enthusiastically. “When are we going down?”
“After we eat. Our appetites are a lot greater than the Crimson Demons' after all.” you tell her with a laugh. “C'mon, let's not keep everyone waiting for the news.”
“Right!” she replies, the two of you walking together into the mess hall to greet the rest of your family. You don't share the news until after breakfast is over, but you can clearly tell Meloka knows something is up, looking from you to Chaya questioningly. You'd only told her telepathically you'll tell her the good news once breakfast is over, telepathically reaching out to Raven to make sure she's aware.

“Hey Raven, did you hear my conversation with Chilli earlier?” you ask her, to which you get a near-immediate response.
“Yes, you're taking the family with you. I take it they'll have the morning off training?” she replies.
“You got it. I'll try and have them back later this evening, I know the old man'll want to see them at some point.”
“I'll be sure to let him know as well.” she replies, ending the link as she senses you had nothing else important to say.
“Great news!” Chaya suddenly shouts, everyone turning to her curiously.

“Meloka Wolbach is a whole year old today!” she says excitedly. “And she's having a birthday party today at Chilli's house! We're all invited!”

Your daughter's siblings, especially the younger ones all shout out excitedly, clearly ready to go. Meloka seems confused by her declaration, looking to you curiously. So you quickly tell her what Chilli'd told you telepathically while your children all talk excitedly, your wife quickly getting it. Then Broly, Kori sitting beside him and the two clearly holding hands under the table looks to you curiously.

“When are we leaving?” he asks you.
“As soon as we're all done eating, and everyone gets dressed.” you tell him, to which Maz, Kayle, Okira, and Karn Jr all spring up out of their seats, running to the door. So you call out as they do, making sure they all hear you. “When everyone's ready, head to the ship's roof.”

The younger children all run off, the rest of you getting up a bit more slow and reserved. By the time you've made it to your bedroom, the younger twins are already dressed in their suits, helping their youngest sibling Karn Jr into his as well. You get dressed in your actual uniform, donning your armor once more. But as you do, you see both weapons leaned up against the wall by the door, and the thought of taking them crosses your mind.

Without a word you walk over to your weapons, slinging them both one at a time over your shoulders. Which doesn't go unnoticed.

“Is this other world we're going to really so dangerous?” Koriand'r asks you, brows furrowed a bit in worry as she walks up. “Should I get a weapon as well?”
“No, it's a rather peaceful world. Or, rather, a low-powered one.” you tell her. “But the damned Time Kai has a habit of showing up, or sending her minions whenever we're celebrating something with him.”
“Ah, I see. You're just taking precautions, just in case.” she says, turning to Broly. Only to see that he's carrying his massive stone shield in his left, dragon bone blade tucked between his arm and shield. “Oh.”

“Better to need and not have.” your son replies to her, rolling his shoulder. Meloka chooses not to take her maces along, most of the children not taking weapons. However, you notice that Chaya has retrieved her sword, Chilli having fixed it sometime over the past year. She lifts it easily, looking over the weapon. Then she notices you looking, resting it against her shoulder before telling you telepathically. “Gotta thank him for his hard work.”

Everyone gathers their things and head out, you noticing Caulifla leaving her sword and moon pendant behind as she walks up beside you in the hallway. She sees where you're looking and gives a small, almost embarassed smile.

“Not letting someone else's problems pull me away from this.” she says, standing beside you. And as Chaya walks past you both with her blade, you realize that she's already grown taller than her oldest sister and is on track to grow past you as well. “Today we're going to have a good time.”
“Yeah, let's enjoy ourselves today.” you reply, everyone making their way outside and to the roof of your ship. And as you all gather, you raise your right hand to your forehead, reaching out to your eldest born son's ki signature. “Alright, everyone hold on.”

Your kids all reach out to touch you, or grab onto either their mother or a sibling touching you while you reach out to Chilli telepathically to let him know that you all are ready.

“Right, one second.” he thinks to you, then after a moment replies. “We're ready, head on over.”

And with a thought, you teleport yourself and your family all to Chilli's side with Instant Transmission.

One moment you all are gathered on the roof of your ship, the next find yourselves on a hill overlooking a quiet, serene-seeming village. Lowering your hand, you turn and see your eldest-born son standing next to you all. Before you can say anything, however, his younger siblings pounce.

“CHILLI!!” both Maz and Kayle shout, leaping at him the instant they see him. Forcing your son to drop his staff to catch them both.
“Hey there you two, you been behaving for Mom and Dad?” he asks them with a laugh, the two nodding enthusiastically. Everyone takes their turn greeting him, you waiting for the end while the others rush forward. He tells you all where the party is being held, gesturing down to the village. “Just sense for Megumin's ki, everything should be about ready.”

Then, once everyone else starts making their way down into the town, he turns to you and his expression changes, taking in your appearance.

“Expecting trouble?” he asks, tone light. But you can see a hardness, a familiar anger hiding behind his eyes. You know exactly which meddling goddess of time he's thinking of.

“You have anything set up?” you ask him aloud, then continue telepathically. “Any defensive measures you've set up to deal with the Time Patrol that I need to be aware of?”
“No, you won't have to worry about accidentally setting anything off.” he also replies telepathically, then aloud says. “Meloka Wolbach does like watching her mother practicing her Explosion magic. So, I've prepared something for a bit later this evening for her to enjoy.”
“Oh, I see.” you say, feeling relieved. But also surprisingly even more nervous about the day's events. What in the world does that mean?

“C'mon, let's not let them get too far ahead of us.” your son says, walking down the path to the village below. You follow along, glancing back up to his home. And for just a moment, for a single instant, your eyes catch a glint of something reflective in the air above his tower. But you don't sense anything, and your son doesn't seemingly sense any malicious magical nonsense about, so you brush it off and keep walking. Whatever your son's planned, you're sure it'll be over the top. These people's more theatrical ways have rubbed off on him quite a bit, if the Time Patrol DO show up you're sure they won't be leaving alive.

You follow him down in to the village proper, where you can immediately see that there's much to do going about. Several tables are lined up, one perpendicular to the other four where the village chief, a man known as Hiropon is sitting to the right of a young woman you've never seen before. With blonde hair and blue eyes, she stands out starkly against the dark hair and crimson eyes of the villagers. What appear to be two guards stand posted behind her, reminding you of the first time you'd met Lord Freeza, Zarbon and Dodoria standing behind him ready to do his bidding. And judging by their powers, the comparison is apt. The blonde woman's strength is of a much greater magnitude than the Crimson Demons, even your daughter in law Megumin. Which is impressive, for this planet. She could probably even take down one of those dragons that attacked this village before single-handedly. Which makes you wonder; who in the world is this person?

Then you notice Megumin sitting to her left, the blonde's eyes sparkling as she looks at your granddaughter in her arms. The two are talking, no doubt about your granddaughter, but you're still too far away to hear what they're saying. As you and your son approach, Maz and Kayle again take off, flying over to their sister-in-law to look at their niece. Which clearly shocks the woman's guards, the swordswoman drawing her blade while the other in robes raises her hands, no doubt preparing to cast something.

But a word from the blonde stops them both in their tracks, returning to their relaxed alert stance. Seems she's quite capable of commanding her people, at least. You take this moment to better judge them, the blonde in the center wearing a long, extravagant yet simple dress of mainly white, while the swordswoman wears a white suit strangely resembling the suit you'd worn when getting married and a sword at her hip, hair cut short while the third is wearing long, comparatively plain dress of blue with white stripes, rings on her fingers and carrying a staff not unlike Chilli's and Megumin's. Your son Chilli walks up to the table, speaking a few words to her before turning and gesturing to both you and Meloka. And while you still aren't close enough to hear what's said, you get the meaning. So you step forward, your son making introductions as Maz and Kayle continue gushing over how big Meloka Wolbach's gotten.

“Princess Iris, these are my parents. My father Karn, the Dragon of New Salda, and my mother Meloka.” Chilli says by way of introduction. “Father, Mom, this is Iris Stylish-Sword Belzerg, Princess of the Kingdom of Belzerg.”
“The pleasure is all mine.” the young woman says, rising to her feet and delicately grasping her dress, holding it up while bowing, you think that's called a curtsy? But she holds it for a couple seconds before rising up to her full height, smile on her face. “I was beginning to think I would never actually meet the two of you. Your reputations precede you. These are my retainers, the Archwizard Rain, my personal tutor, and Knight Claire of the House of the Sword.”

Well? What do you do?

“Good to meet you.” you reply, giving a shallow nod back to the girl. Her short haired bodyguard with the sword on her hip doesn't seem to like you, but as long as Iris keeps her people in line, there won't be any issue. “How did you come to know my son and daughter-in-law?”
“I actually met them long before the wedding.” she replies, smiling faintly as she remembers back. “The Demon King's forces were pushing into our territory, led by one of his eight generals. One known as Wolbach, a supposed Dark Goddess. I came all the way here to the Crimson Demon Village to find your son, once I'd heard rumors of his power and skill.”

“And tried to recruit him into your army?” you ask, tone slightly accusatory. The swordswoman Claire puts a hand on her sword, Meloka fixing the woman with her gaze. Your wife doesn't outwardly show any aggression, but you can almost feel the white suited woman wilting under your wife's pressure.
“No, nothing like that. Although, I would love to have him work for me.” Princess Iris answers easily. “But I did ask for his help, which he and Meloka gave.”
“And she was the one who took her down, too.” your son tells you, having rejoined after going...Somewhere. You'd lost track of him, despite his ki being only one of around a dozen of note. Somehow. “My wife managed to kill a god before I did.”

“And with their success, the Demon King's forces were pushed back and kept from approaching the capitol.” Princess Iris continues, then turning to your boy. “But don't undersell your contribution. Were it not for your powers restoring the castle fortress there on the front lines, even with General Wolbach gone it would have only been a matter of time before it fell. Your aid to the kingdom has been invaluable.”
“But if you're a royal, shouldn't you be off doin' royal stuff?” Okira asks her innocently. “This doesn't look like a kingdom.”

“Haha, no. The Crimson Demon Village is only a small piece, one place that is under the Kingdom of Belzerg.” the princess says, but something in her tone catches your attention. The way she's framing it is as if she has authority over the Crimson Demon Clan, and by extension your son. “The capitol is far larger and grander, but rather empty these days. With my father and my brother Prince Jatice off fighting the Demon King's army all the time, the castle feels rather empty. I just wish the war could be won already, so they can come back home.”

As the princess gazes off, you notice your son's expression darken a bit, turning away from the girl. You can almost see the thoughts going through his mind, him debating on if he should act or not. But before he can, suddenly his hand twitches. You see him immediately whirl to his right, light energy in one hand and what could be Abyssal dark in the other, as a dark portal suddenly appears. It looks like a void, similar to Raven's portals but you don't sense her through it. Instead you sense several surprisingly powerful beings, all stronger than anything you'd sensed on this world before. And then, a being steps through.

“Greetings, Chilli son of Karn.” the skeleton says, it wearing rather extravagant robes and wielding a golden staff with intricate designs and gemstones inlaid in it as it addresses your son directly. Each finger is adorned with a ring, and a slightly luminous red orb glows from just under the bone being's exposed ribcage. But he's not the only one. Following immediately behind him is a demon woman of some sort wearing white, carrying an odd scepter with a ball floating from the end. Alongside her emerges another demon with an almost insect-like tail, wearing an orange suit and tiny glasses that reflect all light, making his eyes invisible behind them. Following them come the two twin elves you'd seen before, an older man with white hair and a black suit, along with a massive insect-like creature wielding a large polearm. And the last one through, before the portal closes is a small woman of similar height to Megumin, wearing a rather frilly and ornate dress of blood red and deep purple. “Forgive me, our arrival was slightly delayed.”

“Rain, get Princess Iris out of here, NOW!” Claire shouts, drawing her weapon and positioning herself immediately between the skeleton and her master. “Flee, now!”
“You dare draw a weapon on the Supreme Being?” the orange-suited creature says, then infuses its voice with some sort of power when it speaks. “PROSTRATE YOURSELVES.”

And to your surprise, several beings here do. Both of Iris's guards, every Crimson Demon within earshot except for Megumin, and even your four youngest all drop to the ground. Not to mention your granddaughter, who slumps over in Megumin's arms. And your anger erupts.

Well? What do you do?

The instant you see your family dropping you'd Ascended, emerald aura blazing wildly as you'd readied yourself to slaughter them and take a single step towards them all. But you then manage to restrain yourself, instead glancing over to Chilli. Who is looking more annoyed than anything, your son striding forward towards the skeleton's orange-suited minion with eyes glowing green. Wait, what?

“That's enough, Demiurge. Let them go, now.” your son commands, hat blasting from his head as he Ascends up into his golden form. “Or you and I will throw down, right here and now.”
“Demiurge.” the skeleton says, his deep voice carrying a tone of disappointment and exasperation. To which the orange-suited being immediately bows, speaking out again.
“YOU MAY MOVE FREELY.” the one apparently called Demiurge says, everyone now rising up. You look over to your granddaughter, whose gaze is focused on the demon. And for the first time since you've seen her, she actually looks MAD. Little brows furrowed, you watch as her black eyes suddenly glow with crimson light, swinging a hand forward towards the demon.

“BAAAAH!” Meloka Wolbach shouts, everyone turning towards her. Even Chilli turns around towards his daughter, and seeing her eyes glowing like you've seen from the other Crimson Demons from time to time his own widen. But she doesn't see her father, eyes focused only on the demon as she raises her right arm overhead, then swings it down, finger pointed towards Demiurge. “BAAAAAAAH!!”

And he explodes.

KABOOM

Everyone shouts in surprise or shock, the blast actually knocking back several of the skeleton's people. They all keep their feet under them, except for Demiurge who is knocked flat on his ass, stunned. But you ignore them, looking back towards your granddaughter. Who seems quite pleased with herself, before you see Megumin ask her something. You see her turn around, very self-satisfied smile on her face. Which causes you to smirk, turning back as you hear Demiurge rising back up, actually growling with anger. But before he can speak, another voice speaks up from somewhere behind you.

“For someone who touts his own strength, getting knocked flat on your ass by a literal child must be quite embarrassing. Especially in front of the Supreme Being you wish so much to be seen as invaluable. Such shame is absolutely savory!”

You and everyone else turn, seeing not one, but two figures. One is a rather well-endowed woman wearing a purple dress and robe with her brown hair covering one eye. While the other is a man dressed similarly to Demiurge, except his suit and hair are both black, wearing a black and white mask covering from his eyes up.

“This embarrassment, it is such a delicacy.” the masked figure continues, smirking maliciously at the other demon. “Nothing tastes better to moi than a lesser demon's shame.”
“You.” Demiurge replies flatly, standing to his full height and dusting himself off before turning to Chilli, bowing at the waist. “Forgive my... Enthusiasm, in protecting the Supreme One. Although a common sword is no threat to my lord, I still take threats to his well being rather personally.”

But Chilli doesn't answer him with words, nodding slightly before turning back to the new arrivals.

“Vanir, Wiz. Good to see you both.” he addresses them, powering down and speaking to them as if nothing happened. “I'll have the next shipment ready by Friday.”
“Great to hear! You're really saving lives out there.” the woman says, bouncing a bit as she walks up and gives your son a hug. To which he actually flinches a bit at, you glancing back towards Megumin and your wife to see them both staring at her with near-identical blank stares to hide their emotions. She then lets go, almost skipping towards Megumin and your granddaughter as if all the tension still in the air simply wasn't. Or perhaps she's simply too air-headed to notice?

“Ahhh, what a treat. And here I thought WE were the ones supposed to bring gifts for HER.” the man says to your son, no doubt speaking about what happened. Wait, gifts? You weren't told about this, does your son expect you to be bringing something as well? But as you have this thought, the demon's attention is fixated on you for a single instant, his smirk turning up slightly at the corner. But that just has to be coincidence, right? “But don't worry, I have quite the surprise in store for your daughter.”

You're having doubts, so you decide to reach out to both Chilli and Megumin both telepathically and get to the bottom of this.

“What's this about gifts?” you ask them both with a thought. “I wasn't aware we were supposed to bring gifts for her.”
“Don't worry, I didn't ask on purpose.” Chilli thinks back to you while he keeps speaking with the demon. “I'll ask you to put on a show later for her.”
“Yes, Chilli told me of that attack of yours, the 'Event Horizon' as he called it.” Megumin adds in. “As you just saw, she really enjoys a good Explosion.”

“Wonder who she got that from?” Chilli replies, you sensing his smirk through the link as the demon nods to him, walking off towards a man who seems familiar. You end the mental link then, watching as the demon approaches a younger man with a heavily-armored blonde on one side and a blue-haired woman with a skirt far too short judging from everyone else's attire. It takes you a second as he exchanges words you don't hear with the demon to realize that he's that one you'd met here, Kazuma. And the armored woman's name was Darkness, the one who'd wanted you to punch her. Which she hasn't forgotten, seeing you and getting a gleam in her eye. But you're not feeling up to holding back against someone of that level, turning back towards your daughter-in-law and granddaughter, walking over towards them.

“-uch power, does she have her adventurer card yet?” Princess Iris is asking Megumin, looking down curiously as your granddaughter yawns again. “If I didn't know better, I'd say she just used the Blast spell.”
“I have her card tucked away in the house, so she can't get it early and learn magic she'll regret.” Megumin says with a small smile. “But it seems she inherited her father's natural talent to use magic, even without gaining a class or using an adventurer's card.”
“She's going to grow up into someone quite special.” the princess says, too focused on Megumin and your granddaughter to notice your approach.

“Yes she will be.” you say, the princess slightly jumping in surprise before turning to you, still all smiles. Yet as she does, you get the feeling her expression is more a mask than that white and black one the demon was wearing. You then turn your attention to your granddaughter, who immediately reaches out towards you with both hands. So you look to her mother, who nods with a smile and lets you take her. You pick up your tiny granddaughter, who wraps her tail around your forearm the size of her torso, clinging to your armor and looking up at you with her large, innocent eyes.

For a moment you just stare, enraptured by your granddaughter. But then you come to your senses, taking her away from the 'head' table and finding a spot off to the side. Where Meloka has already taken a seat, you sitting down beside her. Your granddaughter's eyes widen as she sees your wife, letting go of your armor and reaching out towards her with both hands.

“Aaaaaaah!” she says, opening and closing her hands. Clearly wanting your wife to hold her. Which Meloka accepts gladly, picking her up from you and holding her to her chest with a smile. Your granddaughter cuddles up against her, you smiling helplessly. She's so small and innocent, looking at her holding onto your wife's gi makes you want to give her the universe. And to smash any and everything that would threaten her existence and happiness.

After a minute or so, she then pulls back, looking between you and your wife, then again reaching out towards you. To which your wife laughs, you taking her back into your lap. To which your granddaughter giggles, then reaches up and traces the old scar on the left side of your jaw with her same finger she cast her spell with.

“Yeah, that one was a bad one.” you tell her, patting her on the head. Then you draw her gaze to another scar, this one on your shoulder. “That's not the only one. Here, look at this one.”
“Oooooh.” she says, again tracing the scar with her finger. Which leads to you pointing out all of your visible scars, your granddaughter looking them over then back to your face each time. She clearly doesn't understand what a scar is, but is entertained tracing them so you keep pointing them out. As you do, you feel a pang in your heart that your old man Tatsu didn't live long enough to see this beautiful child. He would have loved to have been here.

“Room for one more?” calls a familiar voice, your jaw dropping as you turn and see who is there. But that's impossible, he's dead. You killed him yourself, at your request years ago. He can't possibly be alive, much less here. Yet there is is, standing on his one leg before you, face covered in the all too familiar scars.

“Ta...Ol...Dad...?” you manage to ask, stunned by his sudden appearance. You have no words, your body can't move, you just watch frozen as he drifts over, reaching out with his right and laying a hand on your shoulder. It's impossible, yet here he is. You can feel his hand on your shoulder, his ki feels exactly right, but you can't make this make sense. So you do what you'd always done, and turned to your old man when you needed clarification or advice. “How...?”
“That boy of yours pulled a few strings, got me an hour's leave from hell to see my great-granddaughter on her first birthday.” Tatsu says, taking his hand off your shoulder and placing it on Meloka Wolbach's head, ruffling her hair a moment before turning his attention back to you. “And you as well. Good to see you, son.”

You're so overwhelmed with emotion that you feel your eyes actually welling up with tears. You have endured a hell of a lot over your life, but seeing your old man back is enough to break you, at least a little bit. But your wife is immediately suspicious, voice accusatory as she rises to her feet, Energy Blade first.

“How are we supposed to know it's really you, and not someone impersonating you?” she asks, which you guess is fair. But instead of saying anything Tatsu simply points up, to which you now notice there's a faintly luminous golden halo floating there above his head. To which Meloka's accusatory tone quickly vanishes, your wife looking a little sheepish as she sits back down.
“Good, all this peace you've earned hasn't made you lose your edge.” he tells her, giving your wife a nod before turning back to you and your granddaughter, whose eyes haven't left him yet. His eyes meet yours, and you already know what he's going to ask. “May I?”

Wordlessly you stand up, giving him the seat while handing your granddaughter to your father. Who takes her in his one arm, sitting down with a sigh as she looks at him in wonder. He smiles at her with the warmth he showed your own young children in his final years, laughing as she raises a finger to trace one of his scars, but clearly can't decide where to start. As she looks at him in awe and confusion, someone else has noticed Tatsu Sr.'s arrival.

Caulifla shouts at full volume the moment she sees Tatsu, rushing over fast enough to create a breeze in her wake. She runs right up to him and, carefully avoiding hitting her niece accidentally, wraps him in a hug. She holds him tight for several seconds, you starting to worry she might crush him a moment before she lets go.

“What are....? How...? You're here!” she finally settles on, unable to talk. TO which he laughs, a genuine belly laugh as he takes her in.
“Look at you, growing on up.” he tells her, using his telekinesis to hold his great-granddaughter while reaching out, caressing her face with his one hand. “You look a lot like your grandmother did. I wonder, if she'd have grown up with the same training would she have gotten as muscular as you?”
“I look like my grandma?” Caulifla asks, clearly surprised by his words. But he just nods and laughs, smiling to her as he feels Meloka Wolbach's finger tracing the scars on his right ear and neck. “When....When I finally meet you again, after.... Will I get to meet her?”

“I don't know. She and I must not have ended up in the same place, because I've not found her.” your father replies, clearly disappointing her. “But I'm sure we'll be meeting again.”

As Caulifla doesn't know how to answer this information, you see Chilli watching this all unfold from the corner of your eye. He doesn't approach, not yet, but the fact he's given you this gift on a day supposed to be about his daughter, your granddaughter....

As much as you want to thank Chilli for this, he told you that you only have a single hour with your old man and don't plan on wasting a single second of it. So you turn, giving your son a single nod. To which he nods back, turning back towards the giant skeleton man he'd been conversing with as you turn back to your father. Just as Maz and Kayle have run up, both latching on to him.

“There there, it is good to see both of you as well.” Tatsu tells them, keeping his telekinetic hold on Meloka Wolbach while patting them on the head one after another. “Loot at how you've grown.”
“Uh huh, we're all big an' strong now!” Kayle says, tears going down her face as she hugs him tight. “Just like you told us.”
“Yeah!” Maz adds in, burying his face into Tatsu's left shoulder. The rest of your children have noticed him by now, everyone moving over to see him. He passes your granddaughter over to you, taking the moment to greet your kids he'd helped raise. Meloka Wolbach's eyes never leave the old man, looking at him in awe while he says a few words to each of your children.

“Ahhh!” she exclaims, pointing at him and turning to you.
“Yeah. That's your great-grandfather.” you tell her, noticing that there's now a ring of light hovering above his head, glowing with faint golden light as he pulls Chaya to him, foreheads against each other as he whispers something to her. To which she nods, determination clear in her eyes. Once everyone's had a turn speaking with him Chilli finally makes his way over, Megumin on his arm. Tatsu senses his approach, turning as your oldest-born son approaches.

“Thank you for this day.” your father tells him, a sad smile on his face. But Chilli brushes his thanks off, waving it away.
“Don't thank me, King Yemma was very pleased with your own work and wanted to reward your efforts.” Chilli says. “I barely had to convince him at all.”
“Even still, I appreciate it.” your old man says, holding his hand out towards your son. Who takes it, the two sharing a look of understanding despite you having no idea who this 'King Yemma' is. Or how your father now works for him despite clearly being dead. The more you find out about the afterlife, the less you know. “This was worth everything.”

“Can you only stay an hour?” Okira asks him as you hand his great-granddaughter over, Tatsu again holding her as he addresses your youngest daughter. “You can't stay forever?”

“Unfortunately, I cannot.” your old man tells her, clearly disappointing Okira. “The dead should not linger in the land of the living. My time in this world is over, but once yours has passed as well, I'll be there to meet you on the other side.”

His words clearly cheer your daughter up, the news she'll eventually see him again encouraging her. While he talks Meloka Wolbach traces his scars with her finger for a moment, before losing track of which started where and just runs her fingers over his textured face. You look around, your children all gathered around your father, Meloka sitting by your side as he holds your granddaughter, this moment is perfect. Which is, of course, when something decides to go wrong.

“TURN UNDEAD!” you hear, whipping your head around to see the blue-haired woman usually with Kazuma pointing her staff at the skeleton man, firing a beam of light directly for his chest. He doesn't move, simply watching the beam approach. It then strikes him, the undead glowing with radiant power. His own retainers recoil from the light, the tiny one in the purple and red dress falling over, seemingly unconscious as the light washes over her. But then the light ends, the skeleton faintly smoking yet remaining standing. “Wh-Wha-?!”

But her exclamation is cut short as Kazuma slams a fist atop her head, dropping the blue-haired woman to her knees.

“Kazuma?! You hit me!” she exclaims, tears forming in her eyes. “Why did you do that?”

Instead of answering her, however, he turns to the skeleton, bowing at the waist.

“I'm so sorry, Lord Ainz, please excuse her rude behavior.” he says, extending his hand towards the skeleton. “Ray of Negative Energy.”

And then fires a beam of Abyssal-seeming darkness, striking the skeletal Ainz much as Aqua's beam of light had. It has no visible effects, except that when it's over the skeleton is no longer smoking. But he seems more shocked by Kazuma's use of magic than her own attack spell.

“D-Don't worry about it. Just keep her under control.” Ains replies, everyone watching as Kazuma then grabs her staff with his left and the back of her collar in her right, dragging her away despite her protests, flailing like a child throwing a temper tantrum. That was...Odd.

Once her screaming is out of earshot the party picks back up, Chilli going over to the skeleton to make sure his group is alright while Yunyun goes to Megumin's side with them, apologizing again for the blue woman's behavior. You turn back from them to see your granddaughter looking at Tatsu's leg, trying to find his other foot. She looks at his leg, then his missing leg, then back to her great-grandfather in confusion as he laughs, then she goes back to looking for it while crawling on his lap while your younger children bombard him with questions about what happens once you die. One of his answers shocks you, as he speaks of being in a line of souls on a path to a castle, just like you'd seen before. Just before Freeza saved your life, you now realizing just how close to death you'd been back then. Once he answers their questions its your turn, your father turning to you.

“Of course.” Broly replies, he and Koriand'r immediately heading away. The rest of your children follow his example, quickly giving you space. Thirty seconds pass, leaving just you, Meloka, Tatsu, and Meloka Wolback within fifty feet.

“Where to begin...?” you mutter, taking a deep breath and telling him everything that happened with Freeza after his departure to the afterlife. You explain the Battle of Namek, how Freeza'd given himself up to Babidi's power and tried to kill not only the Ginyu Force, but Broly as well in an effort to get you mad enough to power up and fight him. Then how, years later once King Cold had finished beating him over his betrayal, he'd come to you offering his life to you for what he'd done. And how you'd lost your cool, beating him for how stupid he was being. Then how, after you'd tried to explain to him how badly he messed up, he STILL hadn't learned his lesson as Broly transformed into his Primal form, Freeza wanted to fight him. Yet despite his raging power he didn't fight, instead telling Freeza that he didn't want to ever see him again, much less fight him.

“Hmmm. Let me ask you a question.” Tatsu says thoughtfully. “You still wish to remain friends with the emperor, right?”
“Of course. We've been through so much, and it's thanks in no small part to him that we have all that we do. Hell, HE is the one who gave Chilli this world as his own to do with as he sees fit. But every time I see him, I can't get the vision of him trying to murder my son out of my mind.”
“Seems that you are the one that must choose.” he tells you, to which you raise your gaze from your clenched fist. “Either you can hold onto that memory, that anger, and keep your hatred for his actions close. Or you can choose to let go.”

“Let go?” you ask, genuinely astonished that your old man could even SUGGEST such a thing. “You think I can just let this go?”
“I think that it's your choice.” he tells you. “He tried his best to seek your forgiveness, even offering his head on a platter to you should his sins be unforgivable. But you didn't accept even his life as recompense for his crime. Tell me, could he do ANYTHING to compensate his actions? Would any action he performed be enough to erase what he tried to do?”
“I...I don't know.” you answer him honestly. But it seems he was expecting that answer, reaching over and grabbing your shoulder with his one good hand.
“Then the choice is yours, not his.” he tells you. “Either you forgive him for his trespass, and let his one-time betrayal go. Or hold onto this grudge forever, keep this hatred and anger in your heart and never rebuild your friendship with him. There's no other option, no third path or magical wish that can make everything better.”

You remain silent, pondering your father's words. Simply forgiving Freeza for trying to murder your son, just letting it go unanswered doesn't quite feel right. But Tatsu's right, the longer you think on it the more his wisdom makes sense. There's nothing he can do to take back his actions, to undo his betrayal. You could use your Stand's Dragon Pact to bind his future actions, but that doesn't undo his previous actions either. Is it really as simple as Tatsu says? That forgiving him isn't reliant on Freeza's actions, but a choice you have to make?

“Our choices are all we are, at the end of the day.” your father says with a sigh, looking down at the shape he's in.Yet you have the feeling that's not what he's seeing. “Every choice we make has consequences, son. From choosing friends to taking a life, every single choice comes back to you in the end. Live your life so that you have no regrets.”

His words resonate within you, raising your gaze to his own he has a small smile on his face. But as he's there, you see his body is actually starting to fade away.

“Well, looks like my time's already up.” Tatsu says with a sigh, passing your granddaughter back and patting her head. “It was good to see you.”
“You too.” you reply, then turn your head. “Everyone, come say goodbye to your grandfather.”

The mood turns quite emotional, several of your children crying as they again have to say goodbye to their grandfather. His smile seems sad, but only a little as he tells everyone a personal goodbye. The last one he talks to is Chilli, your son walking up and clasping right forearms with him.

“Thank you for this.” he tells him, Chilli nodding.
“No, thank you.” he replies, and the two of them simply vanish. Several gasps of surprise sound out, you glancing to Meloka Wolbach who seems the most upset.
“Daaa!” she calls, reaching out to where Chilli had been a moment before. But when he doesn't immediately reappear, she turns to you, pointing with her left. “Daa?”
“It's okay, your daddy's gonna be back.” you tell her, reaching up and ruffling her hair as you'd done with your own children countless times. However, before your son reappears, the weather takes a turn for the worse. You watch as a single raindrop lands on the back of her hand, your granddaughter looking up at the greying sky. Just in time for another drop to land on her forehead. She flinches, burying her face into your neck to avoid getting any more on her face.

Chilli then reappears, looking a bit down, then feels the rain as well. He glances up, then at the party about to get soaked by the storm rolling in. However, the skeleton then steps forward, taking a step towards your son. He's clearly up to something.

“Would you mind if I fixed this unfavorable weather?” Ainz asks your son, who only nods to him. The skeleton nods back, raising both hands as a sphere of magical circles appears around him. From the Crimson Demons' shocked gasps, you have to assume that this is something spectacular. They all move and rotate around him, the skeleton keeping his arms up as the rain starts to really come down. But right as it does, his magic bursts forth with blinding light. You shield Meloka Wolbach's eyes from the light, shielding her a bit from it with your body, but then it's over.

As you open your eyes, you see that the clouds are all gone. The day has changed from overcast to a clear blue sky, sun shining overhead. The skeleton lowers his arms with a sigh, whether of exertion or not you can't tell. But from how you hear everyone talking, such a feat is quite a show for the mages of this world. As the conversation immediately returns to buzzing, Chilli goes up and thanks him before turning to you, walking over.

You don't say anything, simply passing his daughter over to Meloka before rising up to your feet and walk over to him. Wordlessly you take him in your arms, hugging your son to you. He doesn't say anything either, simply holding you as well. You hold him tight to you, unable to put into words what you're feeling. But he clearly understands, the two of you standing there in silence for maybe half a minute before you let him go. Holding him at arm's length, he simply nods to you, to which you nod back before releasing his shoulders. He then turns to your wife, taking his daughter back after whispering something to her before turning back to the head table. He walks up, sitting his daughter into her child seat set between his seat and his wife before calling out to everyone.

“Thank you all for coming. Now, let's all take our seats and get started!” he says, then clapping once. As he claps, you suddenly hear a noise coming from the Village Chief's home behind him. The double doors open, you seeing a half dozen crystal humanoid beings all walking out carrying a massive cake. They carry it to your granddaughter's seat, setting it down beside her. You see her eyes widen in surprise, a wide smile on her face as Chilli snaps his fingers. The single wick on top of the cake ignites, when suddenly the Crimson Demons all break into some sort of song. You and your wife look around in confusion, you notice that the skeleton man Ainz is actually humming along with it. Then as the song ends, Chilli grabs his daughter under her arms, flying up to the top of the cake and telling her to blow out the candle. Which she does, the Crimson Demons applauding. Chilli then flies her back down to her seat, taking the top round circle of cake down with the candle still in it, setting it down before her and taking the candle out. Which she immediately slams a hand down into, tearing a bit free and shoving it in her mouth. The moment she tastes it her eyes widen in surprise, pulling her fingers from her mouth and looking at the frosting still on them in shock.

Meanwhile Chilli lifts the rest of the massive cake with his telekinesis, and with a whisper of power slices it into pieces. With practiced precision he then sends parts of the next several levels he'd cut of it down to the plates on every table, giving each of the guests a piece. He then takes a slightly larger cut for himself, cutting it in two so both halves fall down onto both his and his wife's plates before sitting beside her.

“Help yourselves, there's plenty to go around!” he declares, everyone digging in.

You see the carefully crafted crystal utensils on the table, but disregard them and instead use your telekinesis, lifting the frosted dessert to your mouth and taking a bite. It is quite sweet, the frosting almost sickeningly so while even the bread itself is softer than any you've had before, even Silver's. Which is quite impressive, as you'd never thought anyone else's cooking would even be in competition with your ship's master cook. But it's delicious, you devouring your piece in seconds. You then lean back into your seat, only to see one of his crystalline creatures taking another piece with its built-in cutter, walking over to you and placing another on your plate.

Looking around, you see that others are doing the same, taking more pieces to others' plates that have already eaten their entire first piece. So you accept the second slice, slowing down considerably to savor the flavors. You enjoy the treat, watching as the massive cake slowly dwindles away, everyone enjoying the taste of it. Then, once everyone's done and the cake is gone, Chilli rises back up to his feet while Megumin picks up their daughter, addressing the gathering.

“Now then, we'll move on to the gifts.” he says, waving his hand. The tables all shatter as one, splintering and falling to piles on the ground before the shards spread across the ground, forming a rough circle on the ground beneath you all before re-hardening. “If you all are ready, we'll head on over now.”

You sit on the chair as this entire crystal mass lifts into the air, several Crimson Demons shouting in surprise as you all rise up, flying over towards his home. He carries you all through the air, setting it down beside his house. You feel the crystal beneath your feet moving, feeling tremors through it as it no doubt anchors itself into the ground.

“I shall go first.” Megumin says, raising her left hand towards their home as the crystal wedding ring on her finger glows with a soft, pale light. Her magical staff leaps from the tower's roof, spinning end over end through the air before landing perfectly in her outstretched hand as she looks to her daughter. “You ready?”
“Baaaaaah?” your granddaughter asks, Megumin leaning down and rubbing her nose back and forth against her daughter's.
“Baaaah indeed.” she says, then passes off her daughter to your son. “Now, feast your eyes on THIS!”

“Darkness, blacker than black and darker than dark. I beseech thee, combine with my deep crimson. The time of awakening cometh!” she declares, raising her staff overhead in both hands as her magical circles blaze to life around her. “Though I promulgate the laws of nature, I am the alias of destruction incarnate! I desire for my torrent of power a destructive force, to return all of creation to cinders and let the hammer of eternity descend!”

She then points her staff down, down on the other side of the mountain into the empty plain which is clearly scarred from all sorts of magical attack being unleashed. Seems that this is their firing range, and Megumin's about to show off her full power.

“BURST FORTH! EXPLOOOOOOOOOSION!!”

KABOOOOOOOOOM

Your daughter-in-law unleashes a greater blast than you've ever seen her wield before, the magical attack damn near blinding as she unleashes it. You immediately brace yourself, knowing the shock wave such an attack would kick up just before it hits. Several people shout as the blast knocks them over, but above their panic you hear your granddaughter's laughter, watching as she uncoordinatedly claps, applauding her mother's display. Once the blast is over you see Megumin sag for a moment, Chilli placing a hand on the small of her back as you feel him sending his own power into her to keep her standing. Chilli then hands Meloka Wolbach over to her, letting his wife sit down as he then turns to the rest of the group expectantly.

“Now, who's next?” he asks the stunned group as everyone goes silent. Then another voice calls out, you all turning around to see the newest late arrival. And you're quite surprised to see that not only has Towa arrived with your three half-demon children, but she's come with Future Chaya, Ace, Cell, and most surprisingly of all Mechikabura himself. And despite your joy at seeing your family's faces, know that a fight with the Time Patrol is all but inevitable. But there's no way in hell you'll let them ruin this day for your son, and ESPECIALLY for your granddaughter! But then Mechikabura raises both hands, space distorting around him as he speaks.

“TEMPORAL LOCK! CHRONOSTASIS! IMPENITRABLE DIMENSION!” he calls, and with each what you assume to be spell, space itself seems to bend and distort around him. Then with a sigh he lowers his hands, raising his gaze to your son. “There. That should keep any... Unwanted guests out. Now, let the celebration continue!”

Alright, bit of news. This weekend I'll only be running Saturday and not Sunday, as family stuff's come up. Turning Jiren the Dull & Gray into a chalk outline is pointless since The Supreme Kunt of Time will just insta rezz him between fights, but other than getting a lucky hit in with Divine Cheese Force I think that if Ace and Future Chaya worked together they could have a good shot at putting him down. They could also fuse and obliterate him that way but I don't know if they're just gonna get away with something like that, or if their own transformations would even "mix" that well together.

-Saiyan Conqueror Quest 192 Intermission-

AGE 865, CONTON CITY

“It's nice that everything's calmed down a bit, that finally we get a bit of time to ourselves.” Hyoka says to you, the two of you sitting on the steps outside of the restaurant, both holding your ice cream cones while sitting and watching people go about their day. “How long has it been since we've just been able to sit and relax?”
“Too long.” you reply with a sigh, enjoying the nice weather and pleasant company.

You are Trunks: Apprentice to the Supreme Kai of Time and the longest-serving Time Patroller, wielder of the divine power of Super Saiyan God and currently enjoying the first break you've had in what feels like years. After Mechikabura made himself known, he's started a campaign of terror across time, causing chaos and destruction with his minions to distort nearly every single timeline. But that is all a distraction, a play to hide his real goal: gathering the Dark Dragon Balls. The Supreme Kai of Time had told you of their power, how if they were used could cause unfixable harm to time itself. That wish could even power up the ancient Demon God beyond the Supreme Kai of Time's ability to stop with her divine powers, conquering all of time. Yet not all hope is lost, as during the fighting with his forces over the past years you all managed to secure three of the Dark Dragon Balls, the Supreme Kai of Time sealing them away within the Time Nest in a space only she has access to. So that threat, for now, is averted. Yet, despite this, you still feel uneasy.

“C'mon, stop thinking about work already.” Hyoka says, punching you lightly on the shoulder with her free hand. “We have the day off, so stop. Save work's problems for work, and lighten up.”
“Haaaah, you're right. Worrying won't solve anything after all.” you say, sighing out and trying to push the war and all its problems from your mind. Yet, despite the weather being as perfect as ever in Conton City and people going about their days, the signs of ongoing war are ever-present. You see far fewer people just going about their days, instead more groups of students learning flight under instructors like Piccolo and Gohan, or following behind Roshi wearing massive weighted shells on their backs while jogging down the streets, milk crates in hand. Few people are stopping to chat with each other, or even sitting or standing around enjoying the day. Everyone is moving with a purpose, going somewhere, only making the two of you standing around stand out even more.

“C'mon, I know how to take your mind off all this.” she says, taking a couple steps down the stairs then stops, turning to look back up at you. “You coming?”
“Yeah yeah, I'm coming.” you say, turning your gaze away from the training students and follow behind your girlfriend as she walks down the steps. The two of you finish your desserts before leaving the urban area behind, returning to the central area. You see the central projection, again feeling a pang of sadness that Ace's image is no longer being projected, no longer watching over Conton City. Instead you see another up-and-coming Time Patroller, one who you faintly remember winning last month's tournament.

But that only serves to remind you once more that he's gone, bewitched and taken away from you all by one of Karn's spawn Chaya and that damned witch Towa. You sigh as you see it, lost in thought when Hyoka suddenly speaks up, snapping you out of your thoughts.

“You really miss him, don't you?” she asks, you looking down to see her concerned eyes.
“Yeah.” you reply, feeling down. When she grabs you by the arm, taking you from the hologram and lifting into the air. You follow her to the top of the dome overlooking the Parallel Quest time machines, landing in the small alcove there. A couple of people are talking, but seeing the two of you come alone they all share looks and dip without a word. Seems the rumors of what go on up here from time to time are true, will have to figure out something to handle this. Don't want people getting too familiar in public and causing a scandal when caught. But once they're gone she turns back to you, grabbing you by the forearms and levitating to your height, eye-to-eye.

“What's wrong? You've been down all day. No, no not just today.” she starts, you quickly getting the feeling this has been building up in her for awhile as she keeps talking. “Lately you've changed. You no longer seem excited or even content with anything. I can't remember the last time I saw you happy for more than a second or two. Talk to me Trunks, I can't help you unless you tell me what's wrong.”
“Nothing's wrong, I'm just-” you start, when suddenly Hyoka slaps you across the face! The sudden stinging sensation shocks you, you holding your cheek in stunned silence as she glares, now seemingly genuinely angry.
“Don't feed me that BULLSHIT!” she snarls, grabbing you by the collar and getting into your face. “I've known you too long for that to fly with me. Something's clearly wrong. I don't know if it's whatever the Supreme Kai of Time has you doing in secret that's gotten you like this or what, but this mopey 'woe is me' shit stops today! Got it?”

“I....” you start, then close your mouth as you see the tears forming in the corners of her eyes. “Hyoka...”

“Don't you 'Hyoka' me, dammit!” she says, but you grab her by the arms and pull her in, holding her close. You can feel she wants to keep going, but lets you have this moment in silence. Then, once you feel ready let her go a bit, sighing out and sitting on the ledge.
“You're right. Its just.... I've felt so tired lately.” you say, looking down at your hands resting palms up on your knees. “No matter what I do, how hard I try, how long I fight for the right thing, nothing ever works out.”

“What do you mean?” she asks, walking over and sitting beside you. “What's not worked?”
“I guess it all started back in my original timeline.” you tell her, mind flashing back to all the death and pointless violence you'd witnessed in your youth. “I tried to help my mentor Gohan against the Androids, but it cost him his arm and then life. I go back to the past to help Goku, to fix my own timeline, but instead I split the timelines, doing nothing to fix my own time. I go back again to help, getting strong training with Father to become a powerful warrior, and go back to my own time to defeat the Androids. Only to get my energy stolen by Cell, who killed me then stole the time machine and made even more problems for that other timeline.”

“Then she appeared.” you say, leaning back and remembering the first time you'd met the Supreme Kai of Time. If you knew then what you know now, would you have even agreed? Or would you have stayed dead, moved on to whatever comes next? “The Supreme Kai of Time.”
“You never told me this story before.” she says, reaching over and placing her left hand in your right, giving you a gentle squeeze. “What happened next?”

“When my soul was brought forth for judgment by King Yemma, she arrived and leveled all her charges against me.” you tell her honestly as best you can remember. “For breaking the timeline and being the root cause of several branches, my soul was to be sent to the deepest pit of hell for the next thousand years or so. Or, I could work directly for her. I'd get my life and body back, but I would have to work for her until she was satisfied to 'atone' for my crimes.”
“And you agreed to it.” she says, frowning a bit in what looks like disappointment? Anger? You can't quite tell. “Just like that?”
“Of course. I thought I'd really messed up back then.” you tell her, remembering back to being scolded so fiercely by the tiny Kai. At the time she'd reminded you of your mother, scolding you for rushing off to fight the Androids instead of taking the time machine back to the past. “You should have heard her, I don't think I've ever heard her that angry since.”

“So you were brought back to life, then taken to Toki Toki City?” Hyoka asks, you shaking your head.
“No, not quite. When I joined up, all she had was the Time Nest itself outside of the normal flow of time.” you tell her, remembering back. “At first everything was fine, but then trouble started. The branches I'd caused by using my mother's Time Machine kept branching out, and things started changing. We were running ourselves ragged trying to keep up with the ever-expanding pile of new Time Scrolls, keeping their branches straight, and we needed more help.”

“This was when you started recruiting from your own timeline.” she says, you nodding to her.
“Yes. At first we took the remaining people from my timeline's Earth, which I learned was only a few decades away from Zamasu eradicating everyone anyways with no one to protect them, and brought them there. Along with the remains of Capsule Corp, and with their help, we created Toki Toki City from scratch. But then timelines started getting interfered with, and we couldn't find out the source. All the Supreme Kai could tell was that someone was using dark magic to change history. So, she had me gather the Dragon Balls. And make the wish. 'Give me a strong ally. Someone with the kind of power to help me defend time itself.' was the exact wording she insisted I use.”

“Wait. Hold on.” she says, rising to her feet, eyes wide and almost seeming....Scared? “So, what you're telling me is.....?”
“Yes. My par....Ace, isn't actually someone from any of our timelines. He was actually created by Shenron. With the power of the Dragon Balls, Shenron designed the perfect warrior to protect time itself. He...He was amazing, Hyoka. You hadn't joined up yet, but especially in those early years he was extraordinary. Within only a few hours of arriving, he went from around Raditz's powerlevel to actually fighting one-on-one against Beerus and actually landing attacks.”

“Wait, he WHAT?!” she shouts, jaw dropping in shock. But you can only give a sad smile in response, remembering how good and easy things used to be. “How?”
“Ace always got stronger in response to whoever he was fighting.” you tell her. “Sort of like what happened when Goku and Vegeta fought Broly on Earth, but accelerated even greater. Hell, he fought against Perfect Cell alongside Gohan before even learning how to go Super Saiyan himself. Ace was special. He even managed to beat the Demon God Demigra before learning Super Saiyan 3. But then, as we enjoyed our victory, disaster struck. Toki Toki City was destroyed, and we fell.”

“And landed here.” she finishes for you, an almost apprehensive look on her face. “I'd heard about this shortly after I joined up, but no one could ever tell me why Toki Toki City fell. The only thing I ever found out was that our Guardian Dragon up there is the one that did it.”
“I'm not allowed to talk about it, but let's just say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” you say, covering for the Supreme Kai of Time's mistake. “However, that story is right in that it did destroy the first city, ruining years of hard work I'd put into making Toki Toki city a livable place for everyone. All that effort, gone in an instant. Bringing us back to square one.”

“But now we have Conton City, and a whole lot more people can live here than on that floating city that you'd made before.” she says, trying to cheer you up. “Isn't that at least a small win?”
“Yeah.” you say with a sigh. “Eventually I was able to build a new home here for everyone, one with plenty of room to grow into something greater with a lot of help. But then I lost my partner.”
“You didn't LOSE him.” she says, grabbing you by the face while looking rather serious herself. “He CHOSE to leave us all behind, all to chase some bitch tail. So much for the 'stalwart defender of time', he abandoned us for our enemies! And for the daughter of the one who killed you! He doesn't see any of us as friends anymore.”

“I don't know if he ever did.” you say, clearly shocking her as that same regret and doubt you've felt for years bubbles back up to the surface. “He never talked much, never about himself or what he wanted out of life. He was always so mission focused, so determined to succeed that I'd actually wondered if he even HAD personal wants. If only I'd known, if only I'd known that he wasn't happy, maybe I could have done something to keep him from leaving.”
“I still don't think he's their willing guest. I'm certain they've gotten his mind scrambled.” Hyoka says, crossing her arms. “There's no way he could go from fighting her almost to death on several occasions to chasing her tail and abandoning everything he's ever fought for on his own. He wouldn't just CHOOSE that.”
“I thought the same way too, for a while anyways.” you say, again sighing as you rest your elbows on your knees, head in your hands. “But, after....”

Your mind goes back to the battle the other day, the day you'd had to confront Ace personally in battle since his betrayal and again feel that stabbing pain to the gut. His words to you had cut you deep, not because they were aggressively harmful but because they were simply true. You hadn't been a good friend to him, never asking how he was or if he needed help, or even just hung out outside of the missions. And the price of your negligence was him turning his back on you all.

“It's all my fault.” you say, putting your head in your hands. “If I'd have done more for him, tried harder, SOMETHING! Then he'd still be here.”
“Trunks....” she says softly, you barely hearing her as your mistakes pile up in your mind. Everything you've done so far has led to failure and destruction, always ending worse than it was before you'd done anything. But then you feel her arms around you, pressing herself to you as she simply holds you. “It's not your fault Trunks. You can't save everyone, none of us can. And we can't change the past, not our own and not to fix our mistakes. All we can do is do our best, every single day, and never give up. No matter what life throws our way, we have to keep pushing forward.”

You feel her words deep in your soul, stirring something within you. You aren't quite sure what this is, but you feel... Better. Relieved almost. You feel, for the first time in a long time that you aren't just wasting your efforts in an endless war with no end in sight. But that what you're doing has MEANING.

“You're right.” you say, grabbing onto her and standing, lifting your girlfriend into the air. “No matter how bad things get, we have to just keep moving forward. Even if-”
“Trunks, to the Time Nest IMMEDIATELY!” the Supreme Kai of Time's voice calls out, a note of panic in her voice. You and Hyoka share a look then immediately blast off up the mountain. “Trunks, to the Time Nest immediately.”
“Evil never stops.” you say with a sigh, flying right to the Time Nest portal with Hyoka by your side. Reality distorts, you feeling the uncomfortable sensation of your body being compressed and expanded at the same time, then you're through. Immediately the two of you jog past the Giru-like Capsule Corp droids to take Time Patrollers on different missions, heading directly to the Time Nest proper. You see the tiny Kai there, waving you both over while Toki Toki, the giant white bird that mostly resembles an owl. You both hurry over, the Supreme Kai of Time looking worried. “What's the problem?”

“Come look at this.” she says, ducking back inside. You and Hyoka share a look, following her inside. Walking down the steps to the central table, you see she has a familiar scroll laid out on the table, radiating with demonic divine magical energy.
“Mechikabura.” you mutter, your boss hearing you and turning.
“Yes. He's making a move into THAT timeline.” she says worriedly, lifting the scroll and handing it over. “Take a look.”

And as you watch, you feel a familiar dread welling up from within. You remember what happened to you the LAST time you'd gone to that particular planet.
