It has been 100 years since ancient beings, known as the Old Ones, walked the Earth with their two strong feet. Now they are gone and we animals now rule the remains that they left behind. With our new knowledge of sword and sorcery, we were able to survive in peace for a while, but then came the three factions.
The Apes: Strong giants, claiming to be as just as the old ones and believe they should be the ones to rule over the new world.
The Pigs: An intellectual but slothful group who wish to rule the world with an iron hoof and remain kings while the others remained as dumb animals.
Then there the Lizards: A fast and large group that want to set the world a blaze. Trying to forget the harsh past that the old ones left.
All three sides wishing to go war and destroy one another to bring in what they believe to be true peace.
But, unbeknownst to everyone, there was another group. One that was trying their best to find a way to heal everyone. To bring back order.
You found it.... and now you are taking care of it.

A D&D Homebrew Adventure.

New guy joining, might ask to use standard array or point buy if this goes poorly...
>>
>>5584053
What level do I start at?
>>
>>5584128
We are at level 2, so you probably start off there unless the QM decides you have to start at lower level.
>>
>>5584143
What does the party need? I'm used to playing classes like Rogue and Warlock.
>>
>>5584149
I'm a paladin, Kinny is a rogue, we have literally 4 spare NPC thieves in our party, and Maggie is an overstatted level 1 human sorcerer, though she doesn't seem to know how to use magic yet.

I think we either need a dedicated healer, so a cleric, or a druid if you want a balance between offensive and healing potential. We nearly died in the last fight despite our massive damage potential with Kinny's overpowered lightning daggers and my divine smite because of our low total HP and the boss having burst damage. Otherwise our AC is pretty good. In general we could use more spell caster since Maggie does seem to know spells and I'm not the best for that as a paladin.

However I say just play what you want, the QM and us will adapt accordingly. I will note that there is some unique potential if you play a racoon. As the only animal with human-like hands it is the only creature that can utilize guns or dual wield, all of us are stuck with holding our weapons in our mouths. I mention the racoon and guns because we recently heard of a gun shop and were planning on stopping by sometime to loot the place for guns, which is a unique capability that most of us don't possess.

But, yeah, just play what you want.
>>
>>5584156
*since Maggie doesn't seem to know spells

Correction.
>>
>>5584156
I'll do a Raccoon Warlock. Hopefully me not being a healer isn't too shit.
>>
>>5584162
Sure.

A dog (sub species has to be picked too) would probably be better for warlock because of the charisma and because going for the guns may not be great if the racoon or human that wields them isn't a martial class that eventually gets multiple attacks. But a racoon warlock could still be good, we'd get the benefits of someone with actual real hands and an actual spellcaster.

By the way, what's your timezone, if you don't mind me asking? We run on Tuesdays starting around 7ish AM my time (PST) though I usually am not available until 2 or 3 hours later, the QMs timezone is CST, I think, so 2 hours ahead of me and Kinny is 9 hours ahead of my timezone, I think.

>>
>>5584227
Okay, see you then. I will say that most of the worldbuilding has actually been done by Kinny and I in regards to our own species and language, beliefs, and stuff. The QM mostly focuses on the individual towns, the three main factions mentioned at the top, the backstory involving the Old Ones (humans) and the main plot. So a lot of the actual RP stuff will probably be up to you to decide, rather than you conforming to setting elements that have already been laid out.

The basics are that we are seemingly in the former United States - though you wouldn't know that - a 100 years after the disappearance of the 'Old Ones' and the rise of the Awakened animals. In character the party knows that it is probably 2155, but most animals wouldn't know that, as it was knowledge we acquired during the previous thread. There are the 3 factions mentioned at the top which are the preeminent factions that coerce everyone else, but there are a number of smaller independent towns and factions as well it seems. The main plot revolves around Maggie, the human we abducted and befriended during a heist in the first thread, and also the Xenarus corporation that created Liquid Nihm, a substance that created the Awakened and wiped out all humans, though most animals including you would know nothing about that.

Aside from that there is backstory stuff about the humans getting advanced technology from aliens called 'Draconians' before the aliens started eating humans and doing horrible shit, Mog through misinterpreting this information and engaging in conspiracy brainrot with Kinny has come to the conclusion that 'Draconians' are actually Lizard Elders or Dragons and are actually the demons from the mythological cosmology of Mog's religion, though again you wouldn't know that in character.

Most weapon technology is medieval but augmented with technology, it is too early to tell but it seems we can get the equivalent of magic weapons just by having weapons made of higher quality metals or by electrifying weapon, just as some examples. Real actually magic weapons may or may not exist. Magic spells and shit also exist, a random street vendor was selling magic healing potions, I can cast spells, robots can also cast spells, humans seem to understand magic as well, presumably from interacting with the Draconians. Otherwise the technology is kinda-sorta a post-apocalyptic modern, so we have cars and stuff but the infrastructure is so decayed and the political factions so anarchic, fragmented and decentralized that we have yet to encounter any indication that the majority of society lives like a modern person would rather than a pre-modern society. No mention of factories or the internet, most animals don't seem to worship modern IRL religions, etc.

So, yeah, there's your basic primer of the setting from what I can remember.
>>
>>5584273
lmao, you'll fit right in, practically the entire party - NPCs included - are specialized in dex/charisma. The only exception is me, I'm STR/CHA instead.

You can also pick a feat as well, but we are only using the main 5E player handbook for class/feat stuff and there's no multi-classing, just as a heads up.
>>
>You all soon start looting the bank vault.
>Gathering all the money you need.
>Not that paper stuff though, it's useless.
>Just the copper, silver, and gold.
>Along with the other various jewels you find.
>Meanwhile Maggie was just busy just trying to regulate her volume and hearing after that Thunderwave they all took.
"I'm not sure if you can hear me Mog... but I'm going to get the rest of the humans so they can recieve a proper burial."
>She soon walks off to gather more bodies.
>Meanwhile Mog was busy just scrapping the robot they just fought.
>Soon then Bobby joined in to loot the room.

>You enter the mossed up ruined town.
>With buildings filled to the brim with relics.
>More than likely stores from the Old Ones.
>Though you could barely understand why the humans would want stuff like a fake bear doll.
>Not even made of real fur.
>Hell it doesn't even have anything resembling organs, it's just stuffing.
>Another building has a big pig as it's supposed mascot.
>Judging by the rotting smell inside it, it must have been some grocery store.
>Basically a death trap for any animal with a sensitive nose and stomach.
>But food is food.
>You also spot a store full of ancient books.
>Though trying to figure out the text of the old ones is a thing you might not be interested in.
>You also spot another store.
>Looks recently abandoned.
>Strangely all the inventory looks like it was well taken care of.
>Though you don't know why any Old One would want a metal stick.
>The wood outside is good enough.
>Soon you see something up ahead.

My Patron is an Old One, specifically a Great Old one. Before I go interact with them I want to try to quickly decipher these texts to see if they're useful.

>>5584494
Slowly the battered old wolf uncovered his poor ears, just barely mustering up the will to risk his damaged hearing and brave Maggie's warbling voice. He glanced at the vault, then turned to the cats and still shouting human to give his excuses on why he should no longer be in the presence of the gang of deranged deafs.

"Hey, Kinny, Bobby, I'm gonna go back up top real quick to tell Jenkins and the others what happened and reassure them that we are alright so they don't freak out and skip town on us. The hellbot tearing up the street probably scared them all half to death. I'll be back in a few minutes to help with the gold since I know you probably can't lift it all." Mog said, starting off strong before trailing off into a mutter as he turned to head above ground.

>I head above ground to wrangle up Bobby's cowardly subordinates and Jenkins and reassure them we are alright.
>>
>>5584494
I forgot to ask, is the gold and silver and copper that Kinny is rolling for separate from the 10 gold bars and silver necklaces you previously mentioned? Because those were already established as existing, so it be weird for the value of our haul to magically increase or decrease drastically.
>>
>>5584515
>You are able to read a few of the books.
>You do what look to be old folk tales the Old Ones used to share to their little ones.
>Such classics as The Tale of Peter Rabbit, King Arthur, Robin Hood, and the oh so classic, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.
>Among the others you see what look to be travel guides all leading from the many nations of the Old Ones' maps that you studied.
>You know you are in the land they dubbed as "America".
>But you also see that there are other lands.
>Seperated by the giant lakes.
>Other books tell of you of old recipes the old ones cooked, some strange tactics on how to better yourself, and some that make you question how open the old ones were when it comes to their mating practices.
>Still it was something interesting.
Take some of the books stranger.

>>5584517
>Mog travels up to the surface.
>The usual way.
>Through the elevator.
>The relaxing music plays as he goes up back to the surface.
>Mog then arrives at the surface to meet up with the fox and bob tail subordinates.

"So... what was that loud sound. I assumed it came from underground because of how muffled it was. Also you look like shit, you okay?"

"Huh... I thought I there were only two of us."
"Maybe it's Simon. Simon is very quiet. We barely notice him whenever he is around. We kind of forget about him."

>>
>>5584539
"Come on, this always happens guys. I keep telling you not to do a headcount when someone goes to go use the bathroom."
>>
>>5584519
Mog pantomimed being deaf, holding his paw up to his ear for effect.

"Speak up, I can barely hear you! And no, I'm not okay. That hellbot that nearly strangled you to death literally burrowed through meters of concrete, dirt, and steel to come kill all of us because Kinny got overeager and set off an alarm. I'm surprised you didn't see it from where you were." He surveyed the progress on the graves as he said this, sweeping his paw across his point of view in the direction of the street to illustrate his point.

"The sound was it casting a spell on us, it nearly killed Maggie and I, if it weren't for Kinny it would've. We're all still half deaf, so your gonna have to bear with us for awhile. I just came up to reassure you all that we're alright and the robot is dead. We're gonna need you all to come down and help us carry the loot, but first we gotta count it all so we know how to split it fairly. Those of us that fought that hellspawn will be getting most of it, so don't get your hopes up. It's only fair given we nearly died to get the gold, but you guys will get a small cut for helping us lug it around and just for being part of the crew." The wolf concluded, shrugging in the direction of the elevator to indicate they should come along.

Shit, I didn't refresh before posting. Though to be fair, while you did say there were two subordinates starting in the second thread, I think there were initially four and you just changed that, but I may be wrong. I'll have to go back and check.
>>
>>5584545
To be fair would your character be focusing on the grunts after almost dieing with a fucked up ear?
>>
>>5584542
Nevermind, there were four NPC smugglers including Bobby, but there were 3 NPC no-name smugglers with her originally. You changed this to 2 for whatever reason starting in the 2nd thread, maybe because you forgot or something

>>5584540
>Mog has turned around to head back inside, so he doesn't notice the mysterious third cat initially.
>>
>>5584547
I didn't refresh again and missed this, but no he wouldn't hence why I'm going with just ordering Jenkins to wrangle all of you up to come help us. I'll make a check or something later when it is likely that I would notice, but to be fair there is a decent excuse in that there were originally 3 NPC subordinate no-names around originally before the QM mysteriously reduced that number in the 2nd thread as I've already mentioned.

"This is Simon, apparently. Honestly I thought we lost one of the cats in the forests on the way to town, but apparently he was here the whole time and we-" Mog paused. Wait a second, was this really the same cat as the one on their heist? He barely paid any attention to the subordinate cats and they all sorta looked alike...

>Making an intelligence save to see if I notice that this isn't one of our cats. Flat d20 roll. Everyone here should probably get a save too since we've all seen Bobby's smugglers, Bobby especially should probably roll with some sort of bonus because they are her subordinates.
>>

"Y-yeah, anyways, this is Simon and I think he just fell behind and either no one commented on it or I was outta the loop and everyone knew we still had all our cats and didn't tell me this whole time. Anyways, he's back now. I told the others we are safe, they'll be down here in a moment to help out. We oughta catalogue the spoils so we know how to divvy it up, how goes the progress on that?" Mog finished after skipping a beat to recall Simon's face and coming up with nothing.

>She then turns to Mog.
"Kinny is still getting his "first pick" that Bobby offered him. Not sure when he'll be done. Anyways I'll let you divy up, I'm going back to the surface to burry the dead I have with me."
>With that she then began to go back up to the surface with some corpses to give them a proper burial.

"Sorry, I usually like to give consent before anyone touch my body." Simon mumbles some profanities in Cat. "But if you really want to pet me you can give me stuff for it."
>>
>>5584580
"Put them in the graves, but don't pile the dirt upon them yet, I've gotta give them their rites or they might rise again as undead." Mog said mildly as she passed.

>>

Most likely wait for Mog to make the first move since I'm an underling.
>>
>>5584600
>>5584601
This is a little awkward since Kinny isn't here yet despite him normally being here before me. I would check up on him and see how he is inventorying the loot right about now but he isn't here. Maybe he forgot the session was today or he got up late or he had the same issue as before where this thread wasn't tagged in the app he uses or whatever.

Mog peered into the vault to see if the gold has been organized yet and seeing that it hadn't he awkwardly stood beside the cat.

"So, Simon, I haven't really gotten to know you or the other members of Bobby's crew despite us spending all that time together in the forests. Got any big plans on what to do with your cut of the loot? A family to support back in Xana perhaps?" he began tentatively, probing to see if the cat was interested in opening up after all the time they had spent and were likely to continue spending together.

I'll make it worth your while if you stick around and move on up from lugging around our loot to actually fighting. I know you cats don't like fighting an' all that and you'd rather everyone left you alone, but you know as well as I do that the greedy pigs, and power hungry apes won't leave anyone well enough alone, and of course those heathen lizard...well, we all know those heretics just want to burn every trace of the Old One's remnant majesty, and us along with it. Suitably chastened for his poor memory - odd, he was usually good when it came to the faces of those he fought alongside and worked with, but he was getting old - and hasty recruitment speech, Mog grunted his acknowledgement and replied "Steadfast, I like it. I guess just assume I say what I say to 'Simon' and then both me and Bobby end up bumping into each other saying our stuff at the same time. Though I'd stop and listen as soon as she starts talking about this not being Simon.

>>5584670
Lymon is no longer in the same room as he immediately went to go get Maggie.
>>
>>5584670
>>5584660
Mog's fur stood up on ends in alarm as the conversation took a disturbing tone. Before he could say anything, the cat disappeared.

"Was that not Simon?" he asked quietly.
>>
>>5584673
>>5584671
>"Lyman" then immediately heads to the elevator.
>Trying to get up to the surface to escape.
>"Lyman" soon pressed the button.
>The doors closed as he was now heading to the surface.
>It took a while but he finally reached it.
>There he met with Maggie.
>Maggie gave a confused glance to the "cat".
>Wondering why his breathing was heavy.
"Hey Simon are you okay?"
>Maggie asks the cat.
>Only to come up with another realization.
"Wait are Mog, Kinny, and Bobby okay?"
How do you respond "Lyman"?
>>
>>5584676
"Looks like it."
>Bobby said to the old wolf.
"Should we follow him? Could be a spy from one of the factions."
Mog what do you want to do?
>>
Rolled 7 + 7 (1d20 + 7)

"NO! They're not okay! That thing! It wasn't alone! Its friends casted a spell on Mog and Bobby to make them hostile to me. They're also trying to lock Kinny in the vault!"
>>
Rolled 11 + 5 (1d20 + 5)

>>5584689
>Maggie's eyes widened.
>Believing everything Lyman said to her.
"We gotta go back down there! Now!"
>Maggie then scoops the cat in her arm and begins carrying him with her back down to the elevator.
Rolling an Athletics check for grab or this case keep hold of "Lyman".
"Lyman" roll a Dex save or Acrobatics with disadvantage to try and get out.
>>
>>5584686
"We're all still beat up pretty bad from the fight, I'm not sure we could take him if he is a professional spy. You and Kinny are the the ones in the best shape. But we can't leave him alone with the rest of the crew or let him run amok around the facility. He won't be able to get anywhere important without the keycards but he could still trash some stuff. Lets all gather together, get Kinny, we'll lock up the vault with the gold keycard and go up after him." Mog decided after a moment's deliberation.

>We get Kinny and lock up the vault with the gold keycard. Then we go after 'Simon'.

Since it's a saving throw I win.
>>
>>5584696
>>5584700
We both match. We both match in roll, in modifier, and we both match in number (21 Strength, 21 Dexterity). Never had that happen. But since "Lyman" has disadvantage I say he loses.
>It was in vain.
>The human soon carried the disguised racoon to the elevator and they soon went back down.
>Listening to that classic elevator music once again.
>Soon the forced duo return underground.
>>5584699
>Right in front of Mog and Bobby.
"I'm here! Where's... the other robot...... did you guys already take care of it.
>>
>>5584710
I won't argue against it this time but in the future, ties go to the one making a saving throw. If it was an ability check then I would understand.
>>
>>5584707
I think you are right since it makes sense that the defender would win ties on saving throws, but I can't find where it actually says that defenders win ties, it isn't on page 179 where saving throws are. Where are you looking in the book?
>>

Page 7.
>>
>>5584710
"Oh, good you found him," Mog breathed out a sigh of relief, then turning serious he said "Listen, I don't know what 'Simon' has told you, but there was no other robot, and that isn't Simon. I was chatting with this fake Simon, trying to recruit him for the fight against the Draconians and all the others, then Bobby came out of the vault and she didn't recognize him. He ran off right away when she questioned his identity and Bobby thinks he could be a spy working for one of the factions, for all we know he could be a Draconian spy! We have to interrogate him."

Technically I think 'Simon' is actually entitled to keep rolling Acrobatics every turn to escape even if he fails his roll, no?
>>
>>5584724
Yes. But it's out of combat so it's kinda hard to tell when I can attempt again.

"See? It's the spell! They're trying to hurt their friends! Poor Kinny is gone!"
>>
>>5584710
>>5584726
Should we roll Persuasion versus Deception? I personally don't believe Maggie would really need to think this through that hard given that we aren't attempting to kill Simon and we said that we collect Kinny before going after 'Simon' but it is up to you QM.

Mog scoffed and breathed out an annoyed sigh of exasperation. "You really think she's gonna believe that? We're not trying to kill you, we just want answers."

>She then kept a bit of a hold on him as she took him away from her chest.
"Wait.... so he isn't with us? So who exactly is he then? Like some sort of stowaway?"
>Bobby chimed in.
"I personally believe he's a spy. Though if that were the case wouldn't Jenkins recognize him. He was part of the Apes."
>Bobby continued to ponder for a bit.
>Meanwhile Maggie was keeping a good eye on him.
"I mean he doesn't seem like he would want me like you said the other factions would. Maybe he's not part of a faction. Maybe he's just a stupid young cat or something who just needs money."
>The group continue to stare at "Simon".
Simon how do you respond.
Roll Dex Save if you want Simon. No advantage or disadvantage.
>>
>>5584738
Well that's going to be easy for him to break.
>>
>>5584734
"Sure, throw big accusations like I'm a Draconian spy. Threaten that you'll tie a bag of bricks to me and throw me in a river! That for sure screams you just want answers! Stop trying to kill me! Maggie! We need to snap them out of it and save Kinny!"

>>5584754
Jesus Christ those rolls, guess Fake!Simon is a stone cold motherfucker. Though I think you'd probably roll a wisdom or charisma saving throw to resist intimidation, not intimidation back.
>>
>>5584754
"Well when you have not seen a human for 100 years, I kind of assume that's the appropriate response."
>Maggie tells "Simon"
>>
>>5584751
>>5584756
Seeing this was going nowhere Mog decided to take action to at least get this cat out of the bunker. Moving quickly he stepped into the elevator with Maggie and 'Simon' and slammed the top floor button while barking out "Don't let him out!"

>I move into the elevator and slam the button to move us to above ground, hoping to trap him in the elevator. If I succeed then I wanna then press the button to stop the elevator from moving so we get trapped in between floors and so the doors don't open. Tell me if I need to make reflex or initiative roll to beat 'Simon'.

So I think that means 'Simon' is grappled and I succeed in locking us in the elevator? I think Maggie should also get another check to see through his disguise self spell since she is now touching him. At the very least I think she can automatically tell that he feels different than a cat should if she feels his hands or touches a part of the illusion that isn't real.

>>5584781
?

You rolled a 14 to convince Maggie, an 8 to beat me in regards to the elevator trap and a 20, then a 24 to beat-oh I see, nevermind. Yes, we're still in the elevator then because Maggie succeeded in grappling you, the result is the same either way. Also, I don't think you can use Lucky on a roll that has already 'passed' if that makes sense. Like, you are rolling to beat me out of the elevator and then escape grapple, I don't think you can do that after you've already moved on to rolling for something else.

"Simon... I'm sorry but I can't help but notice something. Why are you trusting me. I already told you that I am a human and that it's been a long time since we have seen a human... and yet you are treating me as if you have seen one before. Even telling me it was not normal for them to tie me in a chair. I know this is sounding crazy and you might be an enemy but... I'm willing to trust you a bit... if you tell me why you are so calm around me."
"Simon" what do you do, you convinced the human to trust you a bit.
>>
>>5584787
You rolled the 8 I rolled the 20. I think it's because we were going so fast so it was hard to see which rolls go with what. We'll slow down next time but I'm pretty sure it's just mano on mano hugging and tugging locked in an elevator together.
>>

Oh, I see. I thought you were grappling not Maggie. My bad.

Not the least bit concerned with Maggie's sudden neutrality regarding the cat Mog kept trying to pin the spy in order to dispel what he assumed was an illusion, he was out of spells for the day, so detect magic or a hypothetical use of the much famed but unavailable zone of truth spell wasn't an option.

Here to pursue Kinny and Bobby for their crimes of idol theft or something? Typical cat Goddess business? Or are you some bootlicker who works for one of the tyrants or those blasphemous lizards? Might as well fess up, I don't intend to murder you in cold blood, but I can still make your stay with us awfully unpleasant. "Raccoon.... you're actually a raccoon not a cat!"
>>
>>5584839
"Ow! Not the tail! Don't be racist! Okay. Fine! You imposter! Go ahead and kill me apostates." The Raccoon finally removes the disguise. Even in his true form, the black ribbon around his eyes taunts you. His hair is gray, an old gray. His muscles feeble. He is ready for death.
>>
>>5584837
"All freedom loving folk have at least three enemies if they have any sense and can feel the oppressive boots on their necks. The pigs, the apes, the lizards. You know this to be true if you've lived in these lands for any length of time, those who work for them know this better than any other. The pigs debt trapping everyone and ruining communities with their bad faith deals and transactional relationships, the apes and their primitivism, desire to 'return to nature' with a dog eat dog world and blatant genocidal imperialism, and worst of all the lizards who just burn every fucking town made in the Old One's image! Who could love such creatures? Of course we have enemies, they strangle us from every direction!" Mog practically shouted, screaming his convictions into the ears of the seemingly ignorant cat who should know better.
>>
>>5584842
"Racist? Apostate? Killing you?! What are you talking about?!"
>The confused human began to ask the now fully revealed raccoon.
>>

>>
>>5584850
Mog was stunned silent. What did this babbling racoon mean? He seemed awfully familiar with humans, that was obvious.

His next words came out hoarse from all the talk and shouting and just general exertion over the course of the day. "What do you mean? Explain yourself."
>>
>>5584850
>>5584853
>Great old one?

>She seemed more... excited and curious than enraged.

>As if she was happy to hear that another human was around.
>Possibly close as well.
"Is he young looking like me or very very old!? Come on you have to answer one question!!"
>>
>>5584853
"Explain myself? To Heretics!? I already told you you're pretenders and that's all you need to know. And not very good ones either judging by the lack of spectacles and pitiful lumps on your chest. Sinners do not deserve to know the likeness of Eugene! Now end me before I end you!"

>>5584854
"Never! I'd sooner slay you than guide you to the mighty one."
>>
>>5584858
Mog sighed. Disappointing. He handed the raccoon over to Maggie before pushing the button for the top 'floor' again. When they arrived he shouted over to Jenkins and the cats. "Hey Jenkins! We got a magic using spy-racoon! He was pretending to be Simon using a disguise spell, we're gonna let him go, don't let him fool you into thinking he is one of us again. Don't let him kill any of you or steal a single thing either!"

He motioned for Maggie to bring the racoon over to the others so they could get a look at him before they let him go.
>>
>>5584858
>The human was clearly not interested in his insults and threats.
"R- right. So this Eugene... he wouldn't have happen to wake up from a chamber of ice as well has he?"

"Also what can I do to prove that we are all on the same side?"

Dammit! Posted it as soon as I saw it.

The tired old wolf exchanged sarcastic barbs with the rat-adjacent creature while he waited for the fox and cats to come closer.

"Wrong on both accounts buddy, I'll tell you this for free. She was helpless inside a fridge when we found her being kept by a bunch of voyeuristic mice and an old rabbit. She's a hundred-something years old and shares the name of someone who left us evidence of the truth of what she has told us. We tied her up because to be blunt we were kidnapping away from the weirdos who had her locked up in a fridge and were probably planning on selling her as mystery meat in the local tavern. Mog laughed out loud again. "Who do you think built all this?" he motioned to the city around them.

"Not your fake idol, that's for sure. Everyone knows the Old Ones built all this greatness, even the lizards. Now we just wallow in the pitiful remnants of their blessed age. In reality your idol was probably just a nobody in the society of the Old Ones, woken up from a fridge like Maggie here by some entrepreneurial gopher and is now pretending to be a big shot to a gullible loser like you. At least Maggie here can claim to be of an honourable profession, fighting demons from the Outer Dark as a soldier for the former rulers of this land. I doubt your fraudulent 'god' can claim such credentials." Mog rambled provocatively, chuckling to himself.

Hearing Maggie's assent he sighed.

"But sure, once we bury the dead and pack up our supplies and wealth, we'll take a detour to see your 'Great Old One', the first of many detours I'm sure. We still have to visit that store you mentioned, Maggie."

Yeah, take care. I'm also done for today, hopefully Kinny shows up next time.

Y'know, I was gonna propose that maybe 'Simon' was just Kinny pretending to be a new player for the lols, because we've technically never seen them posting at the same time. Now I'm just disappointed, it would've been funny.

Anyways, no worries, shit happens. At least we finally got a new player, hopefully they stick around.

The more the merrier, we're still taking players. We've in fact been waiting for 3 threads to get more than 2 PCs. The next session might be on Thursday, not sure on that yet, otherwise it'll be on Tuesday like usual. May want to tell us your timezone to see if there will be any schedule mishaps though.

Yikes, that there's why DnD implemented the roll 4d6 and adding the highest 3 instead of 1d20 per stat.

I'm just a tourist, but is there a reason you guys roll stats like this? Is it to make the animals stats more wildly varied?

I dunno, this is just how we've done it since the 1st thread. It has resulted in some pretty high highs and low lows.

The other reason was the Wild varient. You are all still animals.

>And to our new friend, (...) How would you like to introduce yourself?
A kek in retrospect.
>>
>>5586470
I went up to reassure the hirelings that we were fine and that the Rick's cashier hellbot didn't kill us. 'Simon' infiltrated the group as a cat. You stayed in the vault because you weren't here that day, we met back up in the hallway outside the vault, whereupon Bobby revealed that 'Simon' was not in fact Simon. Then I had us collectively gather up and close the vault to go chase 'Simon'.

Sorry for this character controlling, if you aren't okay with it then I'm fine if you would do something else, but otherwise if you don't have any objections then I think we should retroactively consider you to have been with us when I and Bobby confront Maggie and 'Simon' in front of the elevator lobby. I don't think there is a good reason why you wouldn't come with us when as far as we all knew there was a potentially hostile spy amongst our midst impersonating a missing hireling. (On that note, it works out well RP-wise because we actually did suspiciously lose one of three of Bobby's subordinates back in the forest in thread 1, he wasn't there in thread 2 either, so a moment of QM forgetfulness lends itself well to this particular RP thing)
>>
>>5586474
That’s in the players handbook check 169
>>
>>5586486
>>
Who knows, maybe our new bear party member can introduce himself as having found and rescued Simon who got lost in the forest or something. Anything is fine really, but it'd kinda suck if we had another semi-adversarial PC joining the party and would be hard to manage without breaking the party dynamic or ending up in PVP or something.

>Kinny using all of his brain power to come up with a way to find what he wanted, was speninding all of his time sorting out each and every coin this back had to offer.
>Looking at it he counted up the following.
>20 gold bars that equal up 500 gold a piece.
>10 silver bars that equal up to 1000 Silver a piece.
>7,000,000 copper coins
>14,000 silver coins
>4,000 gold coins
>And over $20,000,000 in dollar bills alone but that is considered burnable trash.
>So after sorting out everything, Kinny soon started thinking about his early share.
>What he wanted first for technically killing the robot and putting all those coins in neat perfect order.
>He was no miser but he did want those coins to be in the right area with each other.
>The mouse did poke his head out.
"Shouldn't we check on the others? It's been real quiet for a bit. I think Bobby even left."
>But the mouse's concern fell onto deaf ears as Kinny, being the smart cat that he was, was thinking.
>Thinking hard on how much he should get for saving the crew and killing the Robot with Mog.
>It was then came up with a good answer.
>133 gold coins, leaving 3867 gold
>148 silver coins, leaving 13,852 silver
>154 coppee coins, leaving 6,999,846 copper.

Ah, so it is. I'm sure there was some combo that I remember as being pretty strong that was often taken with sentinel that prompted my comment about only using the players handbook feats.

If I remember correctly it was using the alternate human version to get an extra feat, then taking sentinel and...polearm master or something like that? So you'd stop them like 10 feet away, and do your opportunity attack and...I can't remember exactly how it worked out but iirc it was pretty good. Been awhile since I've played a IRL campaign or played a 5e fighter. Anyways, completely irrelevant here, disregard what I said.
>>
>>5586495
lmao, Kinny jumps the gun thinking that it was a simple roll+80 for the number of each type of coin, so he only takes those numbers thinking he's taking all of it, only to ending up looting a meagre portion of it as his first dibs bonus. You love to see it. I guess we are retconing it so that I didn't lock the vault with the keycard then? Since apparently Kinny just sat there counting moola while we chased a spy.

'What was I doing before all of this nonsense happened?' Mog mused to himself. He clawed through the shallow depths of his memory to try and recall a time before the present absurdities.
It took a minute but eventually the old wolf proved he wasn't quite senile just yet and prodded Maggie to get her attention before saying "Oh, right, ahem, Maggie before all this crap happened I was going to ask you to come with me to the vehicle garage to do as you said you would and show us how to operate a forklift. We need to get a move on and back up our wealth from the vault and as much food and supplies as possible for our trip to the north, and however many detours we take along the way. You should also look through the facility for any sentimental items you want to bring, as well as any books, tools, clothes, and whatever else you can think we might need. Presumably there is an abundance of now unused Old One technology that could give us a unique advantage in traversing these fractious lands safely. I'm gonna go to the Rick's and get back our money and see if there is anything worth while there, if you don't have anything urgent you need to do right away then I'll meet you at the vehicle bay in a few minutes."

>Loot the cash register at Rick's for our money back and whatever else is in there. Loot the Rick's to see if there was any 'special selection'.

wtfomgbbq, those guns are broken as fuck and we haven't even gotten to the proper gun store mentioned previously

The bows were familiar to Mog, most animals couldn't use them, even racoons or bears had trouble. But a previous few of the strongest and most dexterous among them occasionally could manage to master such exotic weapons with lifelong dedication. The strange oblong rods - staves, perhaps(?) - and strange right-angle bludgeons were an oddity though.

He decided to look for a cart or something to put all of these items in. If there wasn't one then he'd wrap a length of his rope around a selection of every variety of the hunting weapons and put a bunch of the ammunition in his bag.

Then there was the cash register and the back room to check out...

>Put as many bows, crossbow, and guns of both varieties into a cart. If there isn't a cart then wrap half a dozen rifles, half a dozen bows, and half a dozen crossbow up with a rope and carry that. Put half a dozen handguns and 3 boxes of gun ammo of both types in my bag as well as 30 arrows and 30 bolts. I'm only carrying it a short distance to the hirelings, the guns I'm bringing to Maggie since I don't know what they are.

>Before I leave I loot the cash register and take any metal currency inside, there should at least be the 35 silver or so that we handed the hellbot inside the till. I also investigate the backrooms and behind the counter for secret stashes. Roll is a flat d20 for investigation.

Though for interactions that don't involve the NPCs we can probably just introduce each other and RP with each other freely, the city is probably clear of threats at the moment and we are just in the process of looting, so with no major story beats or necessary NPC dialogues to engage in we could smooth out the party dynamic before moving the story forward.

If it is alright with you then I think we should just assume the scene you write later tonight regarding what I find happens and that I just end up looting whatever I find before going out to see Ursus. If that isn't okay then how about we keep my roll of 19 but the scene happens later when I come back to the Rick's to finish my investigation? Not to say I don't want to know what I find, I just mean I want to move on to interact with Ursus and that we can retcon what I find into the story later.

>>5586591
The only issue is that I'm kinda caught in waiting on the QM to tell me what I found or if I found a cart. But I suppose we can retcon in what I find later and just assume I took it and then the subsequent scenes of us talking or whatever happen afterwards. The other issue is that I'm probably too busy today to do much more than sparsely post occasionally. I more meant that inter-party dialogue and interactions between PCs can occur freely without the need for the QM, even on days that aren't scheduled session days, so we can pick this up tomorrow and on the weekend. For various reasons such as there previously only being 2 PCs (Kinny and I) or us just being busy we usually didn't do this except for single late night posts to act as connective tissue for other posts happening the next day.

The sound of shattering glass startled Mog. They should be alone in the city. There was no reason for Jenkins or the cats to be breaking things. He cautiously poked his head out the storefront, mindful of the weight of his armour and wary of the loot he was laden with swaying about and potentially hitting something and making noise.

That's what I get for not refreshing before posting. Also, I'm the only one in the store, Jenkins the fox and two cats are out in the outskirts of the city within sight of where we are digging graves, Kinny is in an underground bunker, 'Simon' the racoon and Maggie the Old One (human, though if you are an average animal you don't know Old Ones are called humans) are just standing out in the street, Bobby the cat is underground in the lobby. Just so you know what you see.

And immediately he bumped into a bear. For a moment he just stared. The bear was blind as a bat, looking to the side instead of into the building as he approached the front. Then he noticed the police armour. With a burst of speed only borderline panic could bring he pushed past Ursus and started screaming at the top of his lungs.

"APES! APES! The APES are here! It's the fucking military police vanguard, a ursine auxiliary! Get to the bunker!"

>>5586606
I'm still in Rick's, I'm just running outside now into the street which is right next to the elevator booth, we can still meet up, just edit whatever post you were working on to reflect that.
>>
>>5586609
Basically, Mog thinks you are an ursine auxiliary working for one of the four kings/warlords/emperors of the Ape Kingdom since you are wearing police armour that you said you took from an ape police guy
>>
>>5586614
ursus just stares in absolute befuddlement suddenly shocked by the bump and loud yowls about apes and ursine guard, looks around doesn't see any apes and just sits down
>>
>>5586621
Mog chanced a look over his shoulder only to see the bear just sitting in the middle of the street. Huh, typical MP, lazy as fuck and convinced they already owned hostile territory that had yet to be taken. Still, he wasn't going to waste this opportunity.

Quickly he gathered Jenkins and the two smuggler cats and told them to take the fake Simon inside the bunker along with Maggie and to bring Kinny up to assist Mog.

Maggie was still in no shape for a fight, even if she was the strongest among them. Neither was Mog for that matter, he was still weak from his wounds, but it wouldn't do for the leader of the pack to cower in fear instead of assessing the enemy. Kinny should've been nearly fully healed by Mog's spell, with the two of them together they could fend off this scout and plan what to do from there.

With his orders given he then turned to stand in the street between the evacuating animals and the apparently dumbstruck bear. And waited.

>>5586495
Kinny counted the coins and pocketed them before he tried to move the bars, but those wouldn't even budge. It really seemed like they would need a fucking bear to move this load at any significant distance, or something. "Yeah, let's go", the cat responded to the mouse, his eyes still glowing from all the gold he just sifted through.
With that, the cat left the vault and moved to the elevator. He figured if others didn't yet leave the vault, he would just wait for them there. Once on surface, Kinny noticed the mastermind behind this operation (>>5586521) moving towards Rick's store and decided to follow him. The cat was getting close to the door when a loud crash from behind the shop hit his ears like an axe (>>5586569). Startled Kinny immediately rolled towards the wall and with his back (side) glued to it, began trotting towards the source of disturbance, hoping this wasn't yet another machine on its way to fuck his day up.
With the heart pounding inside his chest, the soon-to-be-war-hero took a deep breath and peeked from the corner to see Mog screaming bloody murder at a giant, furry beast with an axe nearly as big as its owner (5586614). "Oh. Oh holy fuck." The cat's jaw dropped.

Nah, I just meant it was obvious that he wasn't asking you to roll for the exact amount of coinage there was, it was probably degrees of success based or a multiplier to an initial sum for how much wealth there was. It wouldn't make sense for a vault to only hold a few hundred coins.

Mog bristled, his fur stand up on end, a line of hot saliva working its way between his bared teeth. This arrogant slave of the tyrants was mocking him. Still, he stood his ground. He needed to wait for Kinny.
>>
>>5586622
>>5586621
>>5586622
Kinny, despite still being in a shock, quickly realized the huge animal was no ape and when the bear harmlessly plopped down on his butt, it became clear that he probably was no vanguard either. The cat quickly ran up to Mog and started catsplaining. "Mog, I don't think this bear is on the payroll of our enemies. With all due respect, at his size he'd be already swinging that axe at you and not just sitting there..."
>>5586629
"...waving." Kinny lifted his paw and waved back at the bear. "Who are you?" He then addressed the apparently dumbstruck ursine, hoping his response could cool down the PTSD'ing wolf.
>>
>>5586629
hmm another being has joined the conversation ursus turns his head towards the catkin and speaks, Hello to you my name is Ursus, and hello to you to wolfkin are you ok? you look to be having an allergic reaction with the way your mouth is drooling
>>
>>5586631
"Kinny, don't get close to that thing! It's wearing military police livery, I know what it is. It's just a scout for the main army, too dumb and arrogant to consider that it's in danger. Of course it is just sitting there, it's a scout, he's observing us." Mog shouted at Kinny. How could the normally misanthropic cat just be so nonchalant about the enemy being present when they were on the eve of victory and about to make off with the payday of a lifetime?
>>
>>5586635
huh scout? for the ape army? a bellowing rumble emanates from the bear no I'm no Ape lover the last Ape soldier I faced had my shovel a foot in his sternum. I am no soldier I am farmer that had enough of the ape yolk
>>
>>5586635
Kinny's hair went up a little and he hissed at the wolf. "Mog, put the sword down, he's not trying to hurt you. If those pig- er, apes wanted to observe us, they wouldn't send a bear to demolish the local infrastructure!" The cat was tapping his foot on the ground nervously. He sure as hell didn't want to piss the bear off.
>>5586636
And as the bear rumbled, Kinny instinctively stepped back a little. "SEE? He's got the RIGHT idea MOG." The cat then turned to the bear, not moving any closer, but running his mouth like he always used to. "Name's Kinny, by the way! Very nice to meet you, please don't break Mog's bones. He's just a little stressed, that's all. We all dislike monkeys here!"

The wolf paused and considered the bear's words. It would explain the armour if the bear was a resistance fighter who took the enemy of a slain MP. But it didn't explain why the bear didn't scratch out the police label on the uniform or remove the symbology of the tyrants from the armour. He could just be disguising himself as an MP for ease of travel, to avoid being harassed by Ape patrols, though lizards, pigs, and independents would probably stop him all the time. Or he could simply be lying, it was an easy lie, play dumb and gather intelligence before walking off to report to the main army.

"Hmph, maybe your right, we'll see. No need to be so scared though Kinny. With the two of us together we can easily take on this bear. If I had time to rest I could take him on myself, most of his bulk seems to be his armour." Mog replied. He then explained his earlier thought process regarding the bear openly to the two of them, concluding that the Ursus should explain why he kept the iconography of the military police on his uniform and what he was doing here. If he could convince Mog of his mundane nature then there was no quarrel here.

>Persuasion roll to try and get Ursus to open up on on why he doesn't scratch the enemy's iconography off his armour and what he is doing here.

simple the star was never the apes to take, it is a symbol of an old ideal from the old ones I remember reading that it meant to protect and serve the innocent not to dominate or subjugate, such an ideal is what a warriors should follow
>>
>>5586651
>>5586654
Kinny calmed down seeing there would be no fight, and he just... lied down for a moment. The cat wanted to conserve some energy after he just almost had a heart attack.
>>5586659
Kinny listened to the bear's explanation and it was his turn to be puzzled by what the bear said. "Well that's interesting... but where did you learn to learn Old Ones' language, bear?" The cat was too lazy to get up and figured he could still roll away from the axe if need be.
>>
>>5586668
I didn’t others, delvers and the academic not owned by factions uncovered old bits of language granted it isn’t complete not by a long shot but it is enough to get certain parts, I am a bit of a history buff on my off hours back home
>>
>>5586673
>>5586654
Kinny looked at Mog and whispered. "Should we maybe ask the human? Or maybe the rat can confirm this?"
>>
>>5586668
Seeing the cat laying down ursus copies laying down while the others ask him questions
>>
>>5586642
Mog blinked, confused on what was bothering him. Then paused his explanation to fix Kinny with an annoyed glance.

"Kinny, are you sure you weren't hit by the hellbot's thunderwave spell after all? I'm not wielding my sword, are you blind? I literally can't talk while holding my weapons, same as you."

He then resumed his exposition on his thought process on why the bear ought to have a better explanation for his choice of armour and present circumstances.

>>5586659
This explanation mollified Mog somewhat. It was a noble aspiration, an inspiring ideal, but...

"Noble sentiments, I can relate somewhat. But whatever meaning it had to the Old Ones is meaningless, we live in a different time now. The star has been subverted by the apes, most townships recognize it as a symbol of tyranny and a common aspect of specific MP regiment's Colours. I've only seen some scattered rural hamlets still cling to the star as a symbol of hope, but to warriors who just want uniforms to delineate one's allegiance on the battlefield clearly that star marks you as an enemy of freedom. If what you claim is true and you mean us no harm then we have no quarrel, but keeping such a symbol upon your armour will likely make similar incidents to this one happen more often, and some folks won't ask questions before attacking." Mog rasped out. His throat was yet again parched, he paused for a drink only to find his water skin was empty. With no other option he took the proffered drink from the bear with some brief reluctance and gulped it down with fervour.

When he was done he crumbled the can and threw it in a trash bin.

"So, you looking for work? We seem to have common cause. If you fight you get an equal share of the loot, present bounty from this city excluded of course, we did the work of fighting the metal monstrosity that inhabited this city, so it is only fair we get most of the loot." An offer was made, the wolf waited to see how it was received.
>>
>>5586677
"Confirm what, the bit about the star or the bit about independents? I think Maggie could confirm or deny the bit about the star, but if this guy is from far off or deep in the rural countryside then I doubt either of them will have heard of whatever obscure enclave of academics this guy hails from" Mog whispered back.
>>
>>5586680
hmm maybe your right maybe I should change the star, as for the past have you heard the expression if you dont divine the lessons of the past they will devour your future? that might be something not taught up here what with the apes trying to spin their way or the lizards just trying to burn the past not realizing that they are damming their own futures point is if we dont learn from the fall of the old ones we will be next sent down the gullet of history. as for your offer i accept it seeing as you are not only a leader but an experienced one at that and as you say our goals align.
>>
>>5586681
>>5586694
"Yes. It's on a police uniform, doesn't that mean it should be common?"
Kinny then mumbled something about symbolism and fanaticism before standing up up, arching and stretching his back. "I'll leave you guys to this fascinating conversation and go check on Rick's meanwhile, if that's okay." He announced after straightening his spine.
With that, the cat departed and walked inside the abandoned shop, only to find the door almost blocked by the packed cart the Mog has left behind. "Maybe that robot had a point, huh. Anyways..." The cat said to mouse and then slowly, but loudly pushed the cart outside the door and with some effort began moving it through the street.
So long, dear Mog.
>>
>>5586694
>>5586677
Mog breathed a sigh of relief that the potential danger was over. He tapped Kinny on the shoulder. "Thanks for trying to calm me down and avoid taking a fight we didn't need to take, I'm sorry for shouting at you earlier. It has been a stressful day."

He was about to move over to the elevator and usher the new member of their party into the bunker and explain that they need to finish packing away their newly acquired wealth and food supplies before they moved on when he remembered that neither the newbie or Kinny had been informed about the spy.

"Before I introduce you to the pack, there's something you both should know. Kinny, while you were in the vault a racoon spy capable in the magical arts of illusions disguised himself as Simon. Simon was the third cat subordinate of Bobby that we lost somewhere in the forest back during the heist a week ago, just in case you forgot who he was, I sure did. Anyways, he followed us inside to the hallway outside the vault where you probably heard us causing a commotion Kinny, Bobby realised that he wasn't actually Simon. We chased him, trapped him in the elevator and eventually got him to drop the illusion, then we interrogated him. He's some kind of zealot that serves a 'Great Old One' called Eugene, among other things he thinks Maggie is an animal pretending to be an Old One to lead us astray, he seems familiar with Old Ones and their technology but is seemingly unfamiliar with the beliefs and norms of pretty much all animal society, case in point he seems to think that the Lizards seem like good people because they 'kill pretenders' and he wants us to lead him to large concentrations of non-believers and 'pretenders' so he can kill them before he introduces us to his master. He is also just generally found of constantly calling everyone a blasphemer or pretender or apostate. Just don't let him steal anything or disguise himself as one of us or kill any of us, I don't intend to murder him in cold blood but he may want to kill Maggie, so keep an eye on him. The only real way to see through his disguise is to notice inconsistencies between the disguise and the real person he is imitating, or by physically touching him to feel how the illusion and his true self differ." Mog explained, taking his time to lay things out given the danger 'Simon' posed.

The day was dragging on and eventually it'd be night. They still had a lot of looting and packing to do, stuff to explain. Time to hurry up catching everyone up to speed.

"Really, there is a lot to explain to you Ursus, you still haven't met Maggie yet, or learned the revelations we have. Anyways, I've held us up long enough, lets head inside" he finished, beginning to usher them into the elevator.

>>5586712
"What does that have to do with anything? I don't get your point. H-hey! Where are you going?" Mog began to reply as Kinny ran off. Confused, Mog followed him.
>>
>>5586720
hmm you have an old one in your party and a spy quite the curios combination, thank you for the heads up.

>>
>>5586730
>>5586728
Yeah, I'm probably done for the day myself, I have stuff I have to do. I may check in during the night to see if the QM is following along and reveals what I found in the Rick's or to briefly reply to any responses from you guys, but otherwise I think it is better if we continue this tomorrow and wait for the proper session on Tuesday.

In that case, I'll see you guys tomorrow. Have a good day/night/bloodmoon.

Understandable we can continue tomorrow or whenever we decide on
>>
>>5586739
"Probably, but if we get isolated when in different rooms in the bunker apart from one another, or we are dispersed when travelling the land due to terrain obstacles then that doesn't exactly help us. I may be able to smell him, possibly, but that doesn't help you, or Jenkins, or Ursus if he escapes and imitates one of us with his magic and attempts to turn us against one another by claiming someone else is the disguised spy or if he just straight up goes for a surprise attack. Just be careful around him. He's useful because he could lead us to his master, who seems to be a powerful Old One, but otherwise he seems to be a complete liability."

A fridge with calcium and a desecrated grave you mean? He'd make the distinction that a fridge is a fridge and that having a single unburied bone to chew on isn't a big deal as long as most of a body is returned to the earth. Whereas a desecrated grave would essentially be a disentombed body that has yet to decompose and left open to be inhabited by wandering "heavy" spirits that are weighed down by gravity - unlike birds - or the original soul either called by torturous necromantic magics or by chance after a soul "gets blown off course" on their way to the Moon and end up going insane after a stint in Purgatory end up finding their corpse by sheer chance after falling back to Earth. Among other things.

I'm assuming bones of friends and family and their friends and family are off the table, but what if we returned here after a few months (usually enough for a body to decompose and technically we're already dealing with "remains", not fresh bodies here), would Mog mind picking one of these vault dwellers' bones?

"Honestly I'm with Maggie. We need our rest, her and Mog especially with all the damage they received. But there is one thing I must know... Kinny... did you really have to spend the rest of the day seperating coins? I mean I appreciate, you have really outdone yourself... but why? Did you just want to make sure everyone got an even share?"

"Yes." Kinny responded, recalling that his only alternative was digging graves and, apparently, hunting shapeshifting raccoons. "It was very important I made sure the money is counted properly." The cat further explained while he made his best banker impression.
>Rolling Persuasion to impress the bobtail with my professionalism
OOC time. Are we supposed to share that ~140g or does everyone get ~140g? I mean the whole situation with picking ~140g out of 4000g is absurd and I still don't understand why you've made it Kinny's apparent decision.

Nope. You split the 3867 gold, 13,852 silver, 6,999,846 copper in the bank between all of you. Along with the 20 Gold bars and Silver Bars... if you can lift them.

"Yes, BUT" Kinny lowered his voice to make sure nobody else heard him but the smuggler (and Mog!) "there was 7 MILLION copper, 14 thousand silver and 4 thousand gold coins in that vault!" The cat looked over his shoulder and took a deep breath, before continuing. "It's still down there, all sorted, but we'd need Ursus to move it out and then have to either buy some assets or exchange it to platinum as soon as possible, if we hope to keep it. Which I'm sure you know won't be an easy task even if you had a whole network of connections. And besides, as long as we have this blathering raccoon around us, opening the vault is not a possibility."
Oh, so you're saying we split all that between us and I got the ~140g as a bonus, then? And the money is still down there to be distributed? Fuck.
>>
I'm just going to go ahead and look for the forklift.
>>

Also, QM, I think we established a precedent that the split we were offering Bobby's gang collectively was a 3rd of our earnings back in the 1st thread. This thread and the one prior I think it was mentioned that at least for this job the actual participants in fighting would be getting a bigger cut, so Kinny, Mog, Maggie and Bobby would be taking most of it. The lifters like Jenkins and the cats would still get a small cut, like 10% but not as much. I'm not even sure we are paying the mouse since he is just around to look after Maggie, but I guess we should technically free him now since he isn't trying to convince Maggie to go back. The new comers will have to get an even share on future jobs because they are PCs and it just isn't fun to not get an even split of the wealth as a PC, but for this job I'm pretty much sure that we were set on taking what we earned for ourselves since it doesn't make sense to give a share to someone we just met and someone we are borderline hostile with. In the future though, yeah I think it is best if we just split the wealth evenly between all members of the party, maybe we keep the precedent from thread 1 about Bobby's gang just for them, I dunno.

"I agree on covering up the hole and leave some in the vault for later, but I think the best place a lot of that gold could be is with us."

Honestly, aside from human items, nothing needs to go through the black market. I mentioned in the 1st thread my worries about the mint symbol stamped on the silver bars, but that was before I thought about it and realized how anarchic this setting is. There is no central government that governs the continent, not even the apes. The apes have literally 4 warlords/emperors/kings, we don't know enough about the lizards and pigs but they are probably even more decentralized being a bunch of 'burn the old world down' style anarchists and a negative stereotype of a greedy jew/lombard/insertotherdiscriminatedmercantilepeoplehere respectively. Gold is gold, anyone will take it, same for other precious metals or commodity currencies. No need to launder it or anything. If we tell someone why we have so much money and literally just say "yeah we raided an Old One vault" or "we killed someone who tried to mug us" or "we got rich by selling shit on the road" I doubt anyone will bat an eye

There's no need for this discussion, we have multiple forklifts and crates, we can load it up into crates and take it with us as was initially the plan. "They each weigh, what, like 25, 26 pounds each for the gold bars, 7 pounds for the silver bars, 20 gold bars and 10 silver ones? We can actually carry that normally if we split it between Maggie, myself and Ursus. Just note that regardless of who is carrying it, the value is split amongst us evenly, or really between those who fought the guardian of the vault. Or we could put it in a crate and work together to carry the crate. Since we know the food crates are frozen, we could half empty one of those, defrost the rest of the food in the kitchen or just keep it frozen so it keeps, then put the bars into the half empty crate."
>>
I haven't done an exact number crunch, but from memory with the strength and encumbrance rules I mentioned earlier, we can actually just carry the bars ourselves normally without being slowed to 5 feet per turn. As long as each of the strong members of the group can carry something like 120ish+ pounds, we're good to go. Plus, remember we have a shopping cart for mechanical assistance, so that makes the functional weight lighter. We can manage this. Maggie and I are especially strong.

Yeah, OOC, I just did the math, we can absolutely carry the bars. I can carry like 285 pounds without being encumbered, Maggie can carry even more. Ursus can carry a decent amount too. Each cat or small creature can probably carry one bar and still handle their gear. The strong cats in Bobby's crew are specifically mentioned as being strong, so they can actually carry about the same amount as Ursus. We're fine.

Kinny put a piece of rope on the earmuffs and swung them around his neck. These babies would prove invaluable around guns. Having his peace of mind restored, the cat approached Maggie and Mog, curious how the bullets were loaded into these overengineered weapons.
>Rolling Investigation to understand the reloading

Mog nodded along as Maggie explained the intricate details of the tiny machine that could cause so much death lying on the floor. A subtle sense of horror intruded on the edges of the old wolf's consciousness, but he let it linger there, at the edge. There was no telling the conclusion he'd come to if he let such thoughts in.

This little thing seemed suggest a dynamic shift in the balance of power, it was such a powerful weapon, it could easily fuel a rebellion or cement the power of an existing empire. Yet, this shop was already mostly looted, undoubtedly most similar shops were. He was a veteran soldier, yet he didn't recall ever encountering such a weapon. The factions must've exhausted most of the initial easily accessible supply of such arms before Mog was even born, a war of such horrendous tempo and bloodshed that it laid the foundation of the world as he knew it today.

Turning his thoughts away from such thoughts he thought of something else.

"Hey, Maggie? I sort of get how all these levers and springs and what not work to make the pin at the end of the barrel go 'ping', but how does the bullet propel itself? Surely the pin doesn't strike it with such force that it moves at the speeds it does? What's the secret, is it force or fire magic? Some sort of alchemy?"

>Not sure if that is a plus or a minus.
>Still it was good that she also moved a lot as she talked.
>Not bad.
>She eventually shows how to, load, reload, and unload ammo from a rifle.
>Seems very useful.
>Kinny now gained the knowledge on how to reload a gun.

>>5594848
>Maggie, as much as a gun-taku she was, didn't really know how to explain that to the wolf.
"Well I guess you could consider it like alchemy or science. There's like a small flint that goes into the gun powder and sends the bullet flying out. Or at least something like that. I don't know how to explain that part to you."

>>
>>5594848
Also, holy shit, I should really pass my posts through an edit phase before I post them. "Turning his thoughts away from such thoughts he thought of something else." What an awful sentence.

>>5594860
"Gun...powder?" Mog mouthed slowly. Like in the bullet itself? Or was the powder in the gun? He didn't see any in the gun itself, so it must be in the bullet. He took a pawful of the various types of bullets that weren't compatible with the rifles or handguns they had and tried his best to pry them apart to reveal the alchemical formula that made this all possible.

Soon a small pile of the foul smelling mixture lay on the floor around them. He had an idea.

"Hey, lets keep a box or so of the bullets that don't have matching guns with us just in case we find one of those guns someday. In the meanwhile, I think we can use the stuff from these big red bullets or some of the others we don't need to get the powder out. It explodes right? We could use it as a demolition tool or distraction device in combat if we fiddle with it a bit. Maybe even a weapon coating if we mixed it with pine resin or pig fat!" The old soldier speculated. New methods of death dealing percolated in his mind as he thought on this.

>>5594871
"Huh... a makeshift dynamite stick. I like the idea but how exactly are we going to make it. I never exactly made dynamite before."
>>
>>5594879
Ursus wanders back and catches the conversation, alchemy is not an unheard of practice, what are the components of gunpowder or this dynamite you two are discussing
>>
>>5594879
Mog shrugged, he didn't even know what dynamite was.

"Pour some powder into a pipe and cap both ends? Ignite it with a burning wick? Or just use it as a fire starter for arson or area denial? Or do like I said and mix it with something sticky and flammable to make a weapon coating? Any number of things could work, I don't know enough about alchemy to really say what is most plausible to pull off or how to do it."

He practiced reassembling the gutted gun he had taken apart. Then he tried copying Kinny and reloading it.

"Well, better get in what practice you guys can. You'll need it if we end up using these weapons. And make sure we've got everything we can from this place...and that the racoon doesn't shoot one of us. I'm gonna go try and find some scrap to make bombs with, I'll be back in a minute."

>Practice reassembling guns and reloading like Kinny.

"You're right of course. Our current goals take priority. We have the mystery of Xenarus and Eugene to solve, though I guess I haven't really told you about the former of those two yet. Some day soon I will, but it's a mouthful to reveal all we've learned, I'll spare you the diatribe for now." a soft voiced Mog murdered back. He got up and chased his own tail in a brief fit of energetic anxiety, burning off energy to fuel his musings, before returning to lay down.

"If we found a few more bunkers or caches of guns we would have enough to sustain an army of the deadliest sort imaginable. From there we could if not topple the factions, at least prop up our own faction. Think about the things we would need to do this, or how we would go about it. The bunkers would offer a safe fortification from which to sally out from, although the cities are still in good enough shape to serve that purpose anyways. The food from those bunkers could offer a food surplus, freeing up labour for the manufacture of weapons, either traditional ones or guns if we could find out how they are made, those same freed up people could also serve in an army. To distribute training and ideological materiel we could use wood-block printing presses, some of the bigger towns and cities still have those, I've even heard of leftover artifacts of a more advanced form of printer that the Old Ones used, but I haven't seen working ones myself. We would also need a rallying call to gather folks under our banner, or that of another appropriate leader, we'd need to win a major battle or kill an important leader. The guns can we have could sustain a small army for a few days, but that is all we'd need to start the ball rolling when we are facing foes armed with traditional weaponry. Army sizes are small, as are populations in general, the bunker we just left was supposed to sustain more people in a single building than many small armies even can muster, it wouldn't take much to get ourselves on the map. We can't count on these guns to single handedly topple the factions though, I was just thinking earlier that I haven't seen modern soldiers ever use a gun before, yet all these stores are looted for the most part. That must mean the factions used them in their early wars against one another to form the world we know today, I bet they kept an emergency stash to deal with folks with grand ideas like us who are looking to topple them. They'll be ready for us." Mog expounded at length with his ideas he'd come up with so far.

"I'm liking your ideas but I must ask a few questions."
>Maggie joins in the conversation.
"Like how do we even get people to join our cause. Because honestly, I don't think we have a good selling point with just liberation from the other factions. If you think about it wouldn't each faction kind of offer the same thing. Though really through different methods. Honestly we need more to offer, more of a reason to join us. Even if we do get an army and start declaring wars on these factions who's to say that something like the Pigs and Apes deciding to form an alliance to take us down. Then again if that was the case, then it would have happened with the Lizards a long time ago. Speaking of which... which faction would be the wisest choice to go after first?"
>>
>>5595013
"I think we ought to take it with us. Scavengers are devious, given enough time they could find it if we leave it in the city somewhere hidden. If we bury it in the wilderness then we'd struggle to ever find the cache again. Plus, we'll be moving a lot, we may not get the chance to come back here. This goes double since we soon intend to head north to "Canada", better known as Canis Lupin or wolf country before the apes conquered it. It was already a stronghold of wolf and bear power, that was before the diaspora and mass migration of my parent's generation of us lupine folk in the south to the north, they left stay-behind elements as a rearguard to fight off the apes, I among them. How the apes could've defeated such a strong country is something I can only speculated on, perhaps they used these guns to do it. That place is the perfect fertile ground for forming a rebellion, the country is so vast that they'd struggle to ever quash us if we started up there, and rebellious sentiment is still strong from what little I hear this far down south."
>>
>>5595029
Reptiles those are the one definitely bent on your people end although I don’t think all of them truly understand why, pigs while the Apes would burn down villages to get their way they are way to strong to take down with the other two present but that’s not really something we should be figuring out now, in the meantime we should instead create contacts on the down low not to mention deeds of our actions should speak much louder than words
>>
>>5595029
"You speak some truth. Ideally I was hoping you knew how to revive the industry of your people to act as an incentive to unify the people with the promise of better materiel conditions. But if that isn't possible then the promise of more equitable conditions and political enfranchisement should suffice. I also think you underestimate just how strong the hate of the factions is, for better or worse there is a strong element of speciesism in our mutual hatred of one another. To many of us, the factions are 'the bad guys' and if we aren't the 'good guys' then at least in our own eyes we aren't 'those guys'. Most people would jump at the chance to fight them. An alliance against us is possible, but we'd be counting on rebellions propping up in their territories keeping them busy or joining us, not to mention we could use the same tools they do. They fight one another as much as oppress any free folk, we could feign an alliance with one of them to turn the other against one another in an opportunistic moment of greed, looking to settle scores with a longstanding rival. Or that alliance could be temporarily genuine if we were willing to dirty our paws. As for who to go after...I say definitely not the pigs, they are probably the most cunning even if they aren't too martially inclined. If we went after them then they would bankroll another faction to go after us, whoever allies with them is assured of financial stability for the duration of the war. The apes are the most militaristic and authoritarian, plus if we do start the rebellion in Canis Lupin then we'd be de facto at war with them to start anyways. Or we could go after the lizards since we are technically on a time table to salvage what remnants of human - that's Old One just so you know Ursus - civilization before they burn it all down, we could use the technology your people possessed Maggie. Personally I say go after the apes, it sounds like Ursus has a grudge against them, and frankly so do I."
>>
>>5595038
"I agree, it is too soon to jump to ambitions of nation building or destruction of states, first we have to meet, convince, or instruct the right network of people. For now we should just focus on converting what we have into portable wealth and see about leveraging that wealth into influence and power, both physical power and social power. And that may or may not come after we deal with Maggie's issues, though if we stop by a city on our way then we should definitely handle that first."
>>
>>5595064
For the apes it will need to happen before the war with two factions pop off, if we start conflict in the middle the whole thing will collapse but if we replace the leadership then we can definitely stand a chance
>>
>>5595080
"We'll see, killing one of the emperor's or warlords is a tall order. If we ever got around to the idea I mentioned about distributing calls to revolution through printed papers then fighting everyone at once could be plausible if we succeeded in igniting a successful rebellion everywhere at once, that's a big if though."

Clayton was just the most bloodthirsty out of all of them, wants every Lizard dead. Meanwhile the Orangutan King just resides in his kingdom wanting peace. The Monkey King and Chimpanzee leader both are nuetral. So really if there is only one animal to overthrow, it's definitely the Emperor."

>Maggie of course gave her story of what she did know before being found in an cryogenic chamber.
>Starting in 1945 in Roswell New Mexico when the Draconians (now known as the Lizards) first came to Earth, the atrocities they committed such as eating a baby, human experimentation, and the burning of Russia, all the way up to the supposed near end of the war where everything went blank around the year 1999.
"And that's all I really remember."
>She tells the bear.
"Honestly I am surprised that I do remember all of that. Can't remember further back. Then again I am only 22 years old. Sorry I can't give a bunch of knowledge."
Here's a post that gives out more back story if you are interested.

>He did end up finding a few things.
>Some bottles in a small fridge.
>Has some strange markings on it.
>But judging by the fact it never freezes, it's easy to assume it is in fact alcohol.
>Another thing Kinny found were several old magazines that were now almost faded.
>But from you can tell they do have pictures of human women in little to no clothing.

"We'd have to walk a ways and it'd be awkward, but we could take the time to ferry dirt from the city's edge near the forest to the hole. Or we could simply use the useless paper that for whatever reason you humans kept in the vault as makeshift dirt, it is worth about the same anyways." Mog said with a laugh.

Then they could use only a scoop of dirt put into a bucket or shovel to cover the top layer at the street level, honestly he had meant it as a joke, but it could actually work.

Sorry for inelegantly infodumping you by just referring you to past posts rather than right up a properly written IC explanation. But, with the pace of the game with 4 players that isn't really feasible, back when I wrote long posts just to update Kinny on exposition that happened without him being present it took like an hour or something to write up and we just don't have that kinda time anymore with 4 players all moving the story forward. Some of the context is present immediately above and below the linked post. The rest you'll have to read the archives for context, but it sounds like you may have already done that. Lets just say Mog updates you as best he can, albeit given from his biased perspective.

"Well it was about 50 to 60 years, but thanks to the technology from the Draconians we can now live to about 90 to 100 years. But that's when we are not constantly putting our lives on the line. >>
>>5600923
Did you mean to say roll instead of write? 'Cause it'd be pretty hilarious if you want Ursus to actually write that up for some reason

I think you ought to sort out beforehand with the racoon how Eugene is gonna be portrayed and who plays him and how this is gonna go, out of character. Just so we don't have sore feelings about player agency regarding backstory or about control of the setting. Racoon mentioned that he had a planned character arc for his character, which I imagine means he wants to control Eugene for at least for the initial scenes with him. (Hopefully making the racoon less antagonistic to us) However, this could run into issues of creating backstory to your setting that you don't want, in addition to a PC controlling what may be a powerful human NPC that could affect the party or again, establish things about the setting that you don't want in it. I personally am fine with Eugene being under the racoon's control for a scene or two initially, but you REALLY ought to establish with racoon's player what hardlines you want the setting to have and what it is about, what spoilers/backstory elements/ are allowed and how strong Eugene can be/what Eugene is allowed to do IC.
