Hello, and welcome back to the Big Tank! This is an evo game where each poster progresses the evolution of a species by adding a single trait to them in paint or the art program of their choice. Try to make the species better adapted to their environment, but keep an eye out: Halfway through the thread, I will post a Big Tank Forecast with a warning of what the following thread's environment will be like. At the end of the thread, I will pick up to six species to survive and be the starting species for the next thread.

Era four is COLD, DARK, and SALTY. Much of the ocean is covered in ice year-round, leaving the water that is left extra salty and untouched by the sun. It is inhospitable on top of the ice or on dry land, but at least there's sunlight...

As you can see by the opening image, our surviving species are the Pleamp, Tlump, Scut, Schutto, Bloon, and Bleengi. Their individual posts will follow.

Remember to link your evo to its direct ancestor, as this makes it easier to trace evolutionary trees.

File: Pleamp.png (12 KB, 720x720)
12 KB
12 KB PNG
The Pleamp is a thick-stemmed photosynthesizer that produces floating nuts. These nuts put roots down in shallow water, allowing the rest of the plant to grow out onto land or ice to get sunlight and avoid predators.
>>
File: Tlump.png (16 KB, 720x720)
16 KB
16 KB PNG
The Tlump produces energy and warmth in the chemosynthetic bulb at the base of the plant that is kept safely below ground. It has two types of pumps along its stem: one for drawing plankton in, and another for expelling a simple deterrent toxin.
>>
File: Scut.png (16 KB, 720x720)
16 KB
16 KB PNG
The Scut is a small herbivore, protected by scales and hard spikes. It punctures the stems of plants with its proboscis to slurp up their nutritious juices, which are stored in insulating fat deposits all over its body.
>>
File: Schutto.png (12 KB, 720x720)
12 KB
12 KB PNG
The Schutto is a soft-bodied nut-eater covered in thick burgundy fur. It spends much of its time buried part way into the ground. It has two eyestalks and one motion-sensitive orb at the top of its body that remains exposed even when the rest of the Schutto is underground.
>>
File: Bloon.png (24 KB, 720x720)
24 KB
24 KB PNG
The Bloon is a fatty preditor that produces its own insulating bubble. It has a relatively advanced sensory system, with electro-receptors and color-sensitive eyes. While the electro-receptors are used mainly for hunting, the eyes are primarily used in concert with color-changing fluorescent strips along its body to communicate with other members of its species.
>>
File: Bleengi.png (16 KB, 720x720)
16 KB
16 KB PNG
The Bleengi is a filter-feeder with many long gripping tendrils. It moves by reaching these tendrils out to its destination, then pulling itself forward- like a child on monkey bars. The grey front tendrils are also highly sensitive, allowing the Bleengi to gather information about where it is going before it chooses to go there.

That's the whole cast; you may now begin evolving!

Past threads are up on suptg, but you don't need to read them to jump right into this one.

The Pleamp grows a multicoloured flower on top, to better soak in sunlight and collect rainwater.

(Sorry for the shitty art, I'm not that good at it)

The plant's determination to grow in power has caused it to produce a hefty amount of excess organic scales. Instead of shedding them, like any normal plant would do, the extra scales were slowly, then methodically pushed inside the gas pumps and relatively soon the members of local fauna had to respect the THUMP's independency if they hoped to cozy up in its proximity. SCUTTERS BTFO.

Cute! Spent projectiles might be chewable for Schuttos, idk.
Used up projectiles might be chewable for Schuttos, idk.

glad to hear someone is a fan its too bad i am no good at doing spirals then i could have expanded it over the whole thing or like have it inflate so it untwists

Nice ID. Yeah me neither, unfortunately. My range of skills is limited. I'd say it's good as it is, and if you want to do more complex things with the body later, it'd be time to drop the spikes and the algae(?) growing out of the body. It will provide a clearer view and make any changes much easier. Just not the top ones, I need them as a base for the Sundowner shields.

Now that the Scut's main food source (the Thump) is much harder to feed from, it must turn its focus to softer meals. It now preys upon the calory-rich blood of the soft Schutto, getting longer legs and a slightly thinner body so that it can keep up with a food source that can actually move.

Hey pals, OP here! You might have noticed that it's past page 5 and I haven't posted a Big Tank Forecast yet. There won't be one for this thread because my computer decided to bite it. Depending on how fast we get to page 10 the next thread might be delayed too.

In lieu of a proper Forecast, I will tell you this: adaptations made to deal with the current HIGH SALINITY will help you survive into the next thread!
