Hello there! Welcome to the world of Pokémon! This world is inhabited by creatures called Pokémon! For some people, Pokémon are pets. Others use them for fights. Yourself...You cook Pokémon as a Profession. First, what is your name?>Penny PuddingThat's right. I remember now! Penny Pudding. You're an amateur chef in charge of your own restaurant: Penny's, soon to be renamed 'The Tall Tale' after the fishing habits of Slowpokes. You're a specialist in cooking Water-type Pokémon, and learnt the trade in Grillburg city from your master, Masao. Your partner is the Mantis Pokémon, Scyther, who's a great help in hunting Pokémon, but a little less skilled in the kitchen. For the last two weeks, you've been working hard in the small town of Lobraise, developing your customer base and preparing for a grand opening event. You're on track, have hired some help, and just need to get through your Sunday Pokémon hunt before hosting the largest event of your career (so far). Life in Lobraise has been hectic, but peaceful. There are definitely some notable things you done. On the last episode, you've:>Made numerous connections with people in town, though they're all surface-level relationships for now.>Hired Liam and Macy, two general assistants for your restaurant, who you're training at the moment.>Gotten haunted by Pokémon you hunted, and had them banished by Fenton, a local occultist. >Created a signature dish that seems to have been received well by an eccentric critic. >Developed a minor feud with a competing restaurant, who's trying to step in on your turf. And now it's time to continue your adventure! Previous thread: https://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/2023/5503205/ Welcome back to Pokémon: Fork and Spoon! I wasn't ready for it to drop off the board, didn't notice till I woke up. Big thanks to whoever archived it. I'll consider votes closed, and start writing immediately.

Hunting these might be dangerous, because they'd be in the same sort of regions as the wandering Rhydon. Lots of good meat, though. (Tangela, Rhydon, Geodude, Skwovet, Rockruff Family)
>>5549338yeah i wasnt ready for it to drop off either XD anyway sidenote i was thinking about drawing the logo for the resteraunt since we have examples of what it could be but dont think we have one officially. so would you mind if i gave it a go (? also any of the other players maybe toss back up the ideas but i can look up in the archive)was gonna try today but got busy.
>>5549354I would absolutely love that, yes please! >>5549344>Bigger game. Hunting these might be dangerous, because they'd be in the same sort of regions as the wandering Rhydon. Lots of good meat, though. (Tangela, Rhydon, Geodude, Skwovet, Rockruff Family)You open up your notepad and look through everything you've written on the local Pokémon. Some are really bad choices to try and hunt. Scyther will struggle with the Rock-types in the area, even if you can properly cook them. Not to mention the fact that they're actually rare. You might end up meandering in the woods for some time before coming into them, if you're lucky enough to find them at all. The areas closer to the hills will have rock-based wildlife, cliff-faces or thick copses of trees will have Skwovets and possibly Tangela, and you're not really sure where to find Rockruff. They just seem to show up. Last week's sighting was extremely lucky. You think about what you can do with Tangela as well. You'll have trouble cutting it up and properly treating it, but you could sell it to Anissa or something. She might appreciate fresh ingredients. You're a lot more willing to help her out than other restaurants, since you're not direct competitors. Not even sell it, maybe you could just give it to her as a gift or something. But that's counting your Torchics before they hatch. For now, you have to decide what exactly you're going to hunt. You might have an opportunity later to find somebody to hunt with, which could possibly take the burden off Scyther and his weaknesses.>Select a Pokémon from the list to specifically hunt for (Tangela, Rhydon, Geodude, Skwovet, Rockruff Family). Rarer ones will cause more difficulties during the hunt.Bonus: For the next few updates, if the majority of the players vote to activate the Repel at that point of time, Penny will use it.>Repel: Use this item at any time to prevent low-levelled Pokémon from showing up. Finding an opportune moment will net the best results

>>5549368I'll support this!>>5549360
>>5549360>SkwovetThe rest of these are either advantaged over Scyther, too hard to cook for us, or would make people upset.>RepelOr in other words, +1 to >>5549368. I like the Tangela collab idea but I think we need to get that set up first before hunting it.
>>5549360>Skwovet>Repel
>>5549360I'm fine with skwovet but I want to keep the repel for now...last week we had to deal with an intruding scavenger. if we get a haul then we can't let it be vulnerable on the way back

Highly curious.-Fury Cutter-Quick Attack-Wing Attack-Double Team>Repel>An item that prevents any low-level wild Pokémon from jumping out at you for a while. This will send a large amount of weaker Skwovet running, and make it easier for Greedent to remain, as well as getting rid of some parts of the encounter. As well as a mystery effect.
>>5549573Skwovet. They're a cute, popular Pokémon. They make good mascots, and in big cities, people are very much against eating them. However, in areas closer to nature, they're semi-commonly consumed as wild game. Greedent are a lot meatier and gamier, with a single specimen possessing more mass, but they're even harder to market for one big reason: Gideon & Greedent. The TV dinner company. Greedent is the mascot of the company. Not just as a symbol, there's an actual Greedent that appears in ads and coverage. You find it a little ironic that a food company is making a perfectly edible Pokémon unpalatable in the public consciousness. You've invited the media. That means they'll be covering dishes sold at your opening event on Monday. The Daily Dex in particular has responded positively, and have reporters in town who have accepted the invite, but having their reviews or coverage articles read in places like Stewview might twist some panties. But you can't tiptoe around the public's sensitivities forever, and you'll have to make a trade eventually. Your customers matter more than people crying about the specific type of Pokémon you're serving, but it's still up to you how much you want to take this into account.Since Scyther is well equipped to fight these Pokémon, you decide that you don't need help. You don't need somebody to cover the two of you from Rock-types. The other hunters gradually wander into the woods on their own quests, and some of them have people remaining with their trucks to watch over them. You follow after them for a short while, then split off from the group ahead of you so you're not clustered together. In order to catch Skwovet and Greedent, you need to keep your eyes on the trees. Find a berry bush, and you'll find the squirrels stuffing their cheek pouches full of berries. Those are unsellable, you can't reuse berries that have been in the inside of a Pokémon's mouth in good conscience. Greedent are comparatively rarer, but easier to spot. They're gluttons who hoard far more than they can even consume, indiscriminately shoving usable berries into their bushy tails for storage. They require thicker branches to support their weight. You're not sure what it is about them, but their greed is stronger than their self-preservation instinct. Even when their lives are in danger, their instinct is to eat. They often search for berries mid-battle. If you fight them in the right area, they'll barely be a challenge.
>>5549578Up ahead. You smell a sweet tang in the air. It smells like overripe fruit. Entering a shaded clearing, you come across a wonderful sight: an entire orchard of Razz Berries. They're known for growing remarkably fast. The flavour of a Razz Berry is mildly spicy, with a dry centre that's pleasant on the tongue. They grow best in loamy, soft soil. However, the ground is turning drier and dustier, causing Berry plants all across the woods to stop producing food. This must be one of the oases protected from the furious rays of the sun by the thick shade. Skwovet run across the entire clearing. Once Scyther starts slashing, they'll scatter, so you hold him back and plot out your path. There are Greedent present at the base of the trees. They look like a trio of greedy bastards, who are chasing certain Skwovet away from the bushes. It seems like they're only allowing their gang to eat from the sprouting Razz bushes. You two are noticed immediately, and large portions of the glade start running. They're too busy snatching the berries from each other and stuffing them in their cheeks or tails to bother you, and the smell causes less confident ones to exit the area in droves. Even members of the Greedent gang turn to leave. Scyther pauses. His scythes rise up and he hisses, sending Skwovet fleeing for the safety of the trees. You follow his line of sight and see something up above: An Ariados, slowly weaving its way across the treeline. Spinarak follow along behind it, setting up a trap for any Skwovet that may try fleeing between branches. However, as you enter the clearing, you see a couple of Spinarak hiss and dance across the webs, abandoning their own hunt, to the ire of the Ariados. Various plans of attack flash through your mind. >Hunt down the wandering, factionless Skwovet. They'll receive no support. The glade will fall into chaos, allowing you to catch a large number of these small specimens. Due to using the Repel, less than usual are available.>Assault the Greedent. Rather than chasing down tons of Skwovet, you can go for less Skwovet and a couple of Greedent, which should give you more variety and mass to sell. Due to using the Repel, they have less Skwovet for support, but also less extra meat. >Try and utilize the Ariados. If you can add them into the equation somehow, you might be able to snag both members of the Greedent gang and the wild Skwovet hordes. There are less Spinarak to pose a danger to you if you try this, due to the Repel driving them away.

Befriending the cool bugs might work, seeing as our Scyther is also a cool bug. Rather funny how Penny Pudding has nothing to do with pudding and desserts, and has a Scyther instead.

Is there any support for amending the name slightly, "Penny's Tall Tail" or "Tall Tail by Penny", something like that? Those seem a little more nice resturant-y to me as well as a bit more personal which seems good for a smaller town like Lobraise desu.
>>5550589>Try and utilize the Ariados. If you can add them into the equation somehow, you might be able to snag both members of the Greedent gang and the wild Skwovet hordes. There are less Spinarak to pose a danger to you if you try this, due to the Repel driving them away. You'll figure out a way to use the wild Pokémon to your advantage. The first step to doing so is driving Skwovet into their web. However, for that to happen, you need to let the Ariados fully spin its trap. The Repel is having a detrimental effect on your actual hunt, sending wild Pokémon running away from you, but it's making the attempt a bit less harrowing. There are less Spinarak to harass the two of you while you try to get them involved. You and Scyther step away for a moment. Your presence has done irreparable damage, but you don't want more of them to run away in the meantime. So you sit and wait. After about fifteen minutes, the Ariados are done. Their web has been cast. You can barely see it. It forms a ceiling above the glade, and if it weren't for the actual bugs waiting on it, you would have missed it too. You signal for Scyther to be careful, then the both of you circle around. Skwovet get spooked easily when attacked. They won't charge at a human. You wouldn't have dared to body-block Murkrow or some other Pokémon, but these ones in particular are low risk. Low enough for you to challenge them even with the opening behind you. With you blocking escape routes, and Scyther rampaging on the other end, they'll be more inclined to go UP rather than running farther away. Scyther begins by flying straight towards the Greedent.Scyther used Fury Cutter! The first Greedent to get cut squeaks in pain, dropping the berry in its mouth. It turns to face Scyther. You take a look at them, gauging their strength. They're of a higher level than your partner, and they're meaty. Taking them down will take a LOT of hits without getting hurt. With your attention split between them and the Skwovet, you can't afford to spend this much time in a battle of attrition. You need to get home early too, to do night prep. No, at most you can kill off one of them. The one that's been slashed has been marked for death. As Skwovet from the factionless side of the glade go running, you stick your arms out and lunge at them."BOO!" "Skwovet!""Skwo!"They split off to either side and begin climbing the tree. They make it halfway up before attempting to leap onto another branch, only to get caught by the Ariados. The opposing Greedent used Stockpile!Shit. You hear the sound of chewing. The Greedent is running away from Scyther while picking up the berries knocked out of its fur from the impact. It's eating them on the spot, and if it decides to spit at Scyther, you'll be in trouble."Scyther, go for the small ones!""Scy!" Scyther used Fury Cutter! The opposing Skwovet has been slain...
>>5550928A yapping, posturing squirrel is cleaved in twain as it tries to defend its gang leaders, who are stuffing as many berries as possible into their mouths and running in circles around the tree. They seem to be hoping that Scyther will just get tired and leave, after failing to cut through them with their constant recovery. Your partner, though, is only just getting started. With each swipe, he gets more and more frenzied, hissing and slashing with reckless abandon. He cuts furiously.Scyther used Fury Cutter! The opposing Skwovet has been slain...The opposing Greedent used Stockpile!A different one this time.Scyther used Fury Cutter! The very first Greedent reacts to this one a little more. It's stronger now, and the blades come away wet with blood. You keep spooking the Skwovet. More than a few get past you, but plenty end up in the web. Spinarak are quick to come wrap them up, before the Ariados finishes them off. The Bug-types seem to be looking at the two of you curiously now, as you constantly fill their webs with food.Scyther used Fury Cutter! The Greedent STILL doesn't go down. It's sitting by the second one, chewing on... Wait. Second one. There were three. Where's the third?"SCYTHER! LOOK OUT!" The opposing Greedent used Body Slam!Shit. Your partner is crushed under its weight as it falls from the tree. He hisses and pushes it off, then flies back to your side. That one blow has almost taken him out. Greedent are strong, and they evolve long past Scyther's current level. If it scores a critical blow, it'll take him out immediately. You spray him with Potions as you watch them scurry around. The greedy Skwovet aren't completely willing to flee the berry-laden grove, even as they get cut down by Scyther. It's down to luck now whether your partner gets hit by an errant blow and cuts your hunting short...>Writing is going slow today, I apologize. Still pretty busy. In the meantime, please roll me 4 d100s. Receiving an extremely unlucky critical hit (1-4) from the far higher-levelled Greedent will end the hunt early. Depends on which dice is the crit, if it comes at all.
>>5550930Also, I'm not gonna follow the competitive formula 1:1, I just use it as a guide to work out how strong Pokemon are when compared to each other and provide a basis for how I write that. No worries about having to keep up with it.

>>5550946Oh, you're right. I misread the wiki. I'll definitely make mention. >>5550965Neat! I'll keep writing once I wake up in the morn.
>>5550930sidenote. im excited cause sythers defs gonna level from this. since the greedent is over his current level greatly.so despite the struggle win win lotsa meat on them and stronger partner
>>5550946Re-reading the wiki, apparently using items resets it, which is necessary to keep Scyther up and active, so I guess the stack decays every so often. You're fortunate. Only bad luck could cause an immediate loss, and the odds of them hitting just the right spot are low. The opposing Greedent used Spit Up!Scyther is pelted by high-speed berry seeds, which knock him out of the air and interrupt his attempts to chase down a Skwovet. He flies back to you for another generous application of Potions. You've used up almost your whole supply. Each time he comes back, more and more Skwovet escape. After cutting for so long, he's completely riled up and agitated, but coming back to heal forces him to calm down. He doesn't want to accidentally hurt you by flailing around. The web above you is laden with Skwovet already. There are only so many that the Spinarak and Ariados can wrap up, so the majority of them are just stuck, adding weight to the trap. As Scyther chases another group up a tree, they leap blindly and get caught in the sticky threads.A ripping sound echoes through the glade as one section of the web is pulled free from the tree's surface. The whole thing shakes and shudders as Scyther gets back to cutting. Scyther used Fury Cutter! The opposing Skwovet has been slain...The opposing Greedent used Stockpile!Scyther used Fury Cutter! The opposing Skwovet has been slain...The opposing Greedent used Stuff Cheeks!Damn it. That one has raised its defence by packing its face with berries. It can endure anything while chewing so heartily. Fortunately, it's not your initial target, but you assess once again that killing multiple is impossible. As Scyther builds up his rage once again, you see one of the Greedent clamber up a tree slowly. His tail is completely stuffed with berries, but his mouth is empty. The Pokémon spots a bunch of scattered berries on the web. Thinking of nothing but eating, it pushes itself off the tree and attempts to leap. Greedent aren't very heavy. Most of their weight comes from the berries they pack into their fur, but they only average about six kilograms. Ariados, however, are five times heavier. Even Spinarak are heavier than them. The web soon becomes laden with too many targets, and the Ariados screeches in frustration.
>>5551650Scyther used Fury Cutter! You hear the noise as he's cutting into the Greedent again.SNAP!The entire thing collapses. You barely have time to dive out of the way before the sticky thread tumbles down into the centre of the clearing, taking trapped Pokémon and the handful of predators with it. They hit the ground hard, entrapping even more of the Skwovet who've failed to leave. Scyther is caught in the web, and begins thrashing wildly as he attempts to cut his way out of it.Scyther used Fury Cutter! The opposing Greedent used Body Slam! You can't reach him fast enough to apply your Potions, as you need to jog around the entire perimeter. The Ariados grabs several bundles of silk and makes off with them, leaving the majority of the webbed creatures abandoned. The Spinarak glance at you curiously as they escape as well, each holding a single cocoon that's about a quarter their body weight. Scyther manages to pull himself free, and as the Greedent struggles within the net, he raises both sickles and screeches."SCYTHERRRRRR!"Scyther used Fury Cutter! The opposing Greedent has been slain...Scyther grew to Lv. 18!That's it then. One big one, plenty of smaller catches. You reach him as the two other Greedent finally get free and scamper into the woods. After spraying him down with your very last batch, the Skwovet in the net begin struggling as they watch the green-scythed reaper approach them."S-skwovet..."Scyther used Fury Cutter! The opposing Skwovet has been slain...The opposing Skwovet has been slain...The opposing Skwovet has been slain...=====
>>5551651You gather up the bodies. The web makes for a surprisingly good string to keep them tied together. The only problem is that they get all over your hands. You don't want to clean them right out here in the field, there's too many of them, so you just get to work on preparing them for transport. The fight has gone well. Scyther wouldn't have been able to take on such a strong opponent if it wasn't so absorbed in eating all the time. You'll have to clean the guts out properly for sure. If they had properly worked as a team, he'd be down in mere moments. However, fighting Greedent has turned out to be extremely time consuming. You make a note of the fact that he can't take them down easily. That was... How many volleys of attacks just for one? You couldn't keep track, but if he had just swallowed those berries to recover, it would have taken even longer. You're interrupted from your short break by a yip from the other end of the clearing. At first, you think the Rockruff has returned, but it turns out to be a different Pokémon altogether. It's a small creature, about the size of a Greedent, with orange fur and a bushy tail. There are black markings on its head, and it wags its tail in excitement. The creature looks hungry. It wanders into the clearing, ignoring the repel, and stares longingly at the food. A Nickit! This wasn't on the list, must be one of those wandering Pokémon you've read about. >Ignore it. You have work to do. Just don't give it anything and transport the bodies back, it'll leave after a while, you hope. >Feed it. It looks friendly, engage with it and give it a carcass or two. Scyther is staring suspiciously at it, but you don't think it can do him much harm. >Kill kill kill kill kill. These ones taste almost like Deerling, with low fat and a distinct flavour. A thorough marination and tenderization is needed. You'll need strong vinegar to get rid of the odour, then spices, salt, slow cooking...

>>5551652>Feed it. It looks friendly, engage with it and give it a carcass or two. Scyther is staring suspiciously at it, but you don't think it can do him much harm.No capture. Foxes stink irl. Just befriend but leave alone
>Feed it.Ah, what's the harm in feeding it? Scyther stands a distance away, his thorax rising and falling. He's not in a mood to socialize with a wild Pokémon, and now he's tired out from the effort. He probably can't keep using the same moves, as finishing off the Skwovet has taken a lot of effort, but he at least has energy to use Wing Attack. You toss the smallest, most messed up Skwovet to the Nickit."Ni!"Its triangular snout snaps up the squirrel carcass, and it starts chewing on it. The Pokémon then slides closer to you, its large tail wagging back and forth. It sure looks friendly! Tempted by its cuteness, you reach your hand out to pat it on the head. Hey, aren't these good at tracking? Maybe you could catch one of these as a partner in the future. This one in particular is catching your eye, it's even-tempered and calm. Scyther bristles, looking around the clearing, and you hand it the other half of the Skwovet to finish up."Nick! Nickit!"The mask-like pattern on its face turns to face you, and it yips loudly. Hopefully the Repel prevents any other Pokémon from coming by. It didn't drive this one off, so either it's wearing off, or it's close enough to Scyther's own level despite its small size. Having such a friendly scavenger stop by is a lot more fortunate than the Rockruff. Sitting cross-legged on the ground, you pile the Skwovet into a large bag while watching the wild Pokémon feast on the scraps."SCY!"The opposing Thievul used Assurance! You whirl around as a large orange shape tackles Scyther. Before you can stand up to start giving him orders to defend himself, the Nickit leaps onto your lap.The opposing Nickit used Snarl!Your hands instinctively fly to the side of your head, covering your ears as the savage sound emanates from its once adorable face. It's threatening you into inaction. Move, and it could actually wound you. A wild Pokémon attacking you like this would spell the end of the event, and...>Pokémon Theft Awareness: Lv. 2
>>5551916There are other hunters nearby. They'll respond to that call, and you just need to hold out until help comes and the thieves scatter. The opposing Nickit used Assurance!A second Nickit! That makes three enemies total. It bashes its side against Scyther, trying to take him down, and he responds by using Quick Attack once, sending it flying across the clearing. The big Thievul leaps onto his back and starts chewing on him. It's chaos. You can't get in there without being hit by an attack, so you raise your hand to return him to his ball. The opposing Thievul used Ice Fang!If there was any remaining doubt that these were trained thieves, it evaporates the moment you see the fox fill its maw with Ice-type energy and chomp onto Scyther's wings. That's a move that has to be taught specifically to them. He hisses in pain and collapses, overwhelmed by the surprise attacks. Scyther fainted!"HELP! SOMEONE!"You return him to his ball in a flash of light, stopping him from further harm. The moment you do, however, you realize your mistake. That's exactly what they want, if they're aiming to steal your Pokémon. "Shit-" The opposing Nickit used Thief! The opposing Nickit stole Penny's Pokéball! The one that you walloped with the Skwovet carcass lunges past you, stealing his ball right out of your grip. Its managed to detach the body, and you yell in outrage as the three begin to retreat. The Thievul stays at the edge of the clearing, waiting for the Nickit to catch up to it with its prize. You're hot on its trail, sprinting forward with your arms outstretched, aiming to tackle it no matter the cost. Fuck the opening, fuck the restaurant. That's your partner. You're not going to let them make off with him. You'll never see him again, who knows what will happen?"SCYTHER!" There's no response from the unconscious bug in his ball. You pant heavily, failing to catch up. It's more nimble than you. It's faster. As you lunge to tackle it, it slips through your arms and takes off, forcing you to waste time pushing yourself back up. You feel your arms scrape against the earth, and your palms are covered in soil. A choked sob escapes your mouth as it gets further away. But then...
>>5551917The opposing Spinarak used String Shot!Out of nowhere, a stream of silk blasts the Nickit, webbing it down and keeping it in place. It drops the ball to free up its mouth and starts gnawing its way free, its tail attempting to sweep the ball closer to the Thievul and Nickit. You barely register what just happened. All you perceive is the red and white Pokéball that Scyther is trapped in, and the large Pokémon sprinting towards the both of you. You lunge a second time and manage to land on the ball. You curl up around it as the Thievul sprints past you, assisting its younger comrade with getting free. The moment it rips through the web, it casts its head over its shoulder to glare at you, before taking off with the ball thief close behind. It barks at a nearby trunk, never once pausing as it flees the clearing. "Thievul!""Spi! Spi!""Nickit!" "Nick!"Tears run down your face as you cradle the ball, holding it close to your chest and ensuring that nothing can pry it from you again. You almost lost him, all because you weren't careful and decided to entertain a suspicious Pokémon. The scuttling from above catches your attention, and you hug the ball defensively as you look up.Perched on the side of a trunk is one of the Spinarak that you and Scyther ended up feeding earlier. There's no sign of the other members of the swarm, and its abdomen is bulging from a recent meal that it only caught thanks to you. It stares at you for an uncomfortably long time, its blank, beady eyes fixated on your face, then frantically scurries down the trunk and runs past you. It spends as little time on the ground as possible, heading for the discarded Skwovet bludgeon that the Nickit peeled off its face. The bug seizes it in its mandibles and runs up a tree with its extra meal, retreating into the forest.Rustling leaves and breaking branches sound out from the West. You hear voices yelling and Pokémon crying out, aiming to scare away any wild ones with the presence. You remain on the ground with Scyther clasped in your grip as several other hunters enter the clearing. They stare at you in concern, then make a beeline for you and your discarded gear.
>>5551926=====Back at the camp, the hunters treat your scrapes and seat you on your truck bed. They immediately offer up Revives and get Scyther back on his feet. You send him out, and he immediately leaps into a frenzy, slashing at empty air and trying to drive them away from you. He refuses to leave your side, and it takes a lot of coaxing before he allows them to get close and attend to the both of you again. Somebody has done you the favour of picking up your equipment and carrying it back for you, and others get you warm water and cold compresses. Your ankle is sore from tumbling twice, and you hope you haven't twisted it.The story about the Nickit gets their attention. You're requested to repeat it several times, and one of them heads off to call the local police station. It's been a rough day, and a terrible experience, that has left both you and Scyther mentally exhausted. You keep one hand on him at all times, unwilling to let him out of sight again. Despite how bad things are, the thought of how much work you have left to do forces you to get up eventually. You're grateful for their help, but you need to get going. You're not willing to spend the evening reporting to the police either, when you have the opening to deal with, but you'll want to give your statement some other time. Thanking them for all the concern, you pile your stuff into the back of the truck and seat Scyther in the bed. You head on back to the restaurant, concluding this Sunday's very eventful hunt.Hunt tally:>1x Mid grade Greedent meat>8x Mid grade Skwovet meat>4x Low grade Skwovet meat>Scyther has grown stronger!
>>5551932Well that went totally wrong
Alright maybe going the obsessed cook route has more benefits than I thought.Next time we shouldn't trust wild pokemon, especially if they're known thieves.
>>5551932=====Back at Penny's, you immediately head for the kitchen and start preparing the food. Scyther remains nearby, and you can't resist throwing him giblets every so often, as you skin and drain the Skwovet and Greedent. Your mind wanders as you get them ready for serving tomorrow. That was a close shave. You've never been in more danger, even while diving in the sea with Masao, and it chills you to the bone. You hope that whoever sent those Nickit is dealt with soon. They tried to steal your partner, Arceusdammit. You should have chopped up that vermin when you had the chance. You're back earlier than the previous week. It's late afternoon, and you'll be getting very little sleep tonight. You have a lot to do in terms of decorating, pre-prepping, and last minute rehearsal. Right now, the one big problem is the meat. Your thoughts are still hazy after the huge scare, but you try and focus on how you want to serve them. You only have one Greedent, you'll just roast it up, make it indistinct enough to put on a plate, and then portion it. The Skwovet are another matter, though.>Buttermilk fried Skwovet. Fry em up. Greasy, oily, and served with biscuits and some eggs, maybe. It's not exactly high class, but you can make more of it.>Skwovet stew. Leaving them to simmer will let you serve from a gigantic pot of soup. It might even last you longer than Monday or Tuesday. >>5551942>>5551954Oh, it would help if we picked how to actually cook it with the last item, huh? All it’s talking about is how we’ll brand it.To that end,>Stew most of it>Reserve some for Buttermilk fried Skowvet.I think THS should take different forms using the same ingredients. Most people would get the stew, but anyone who requests something different or that we know well enough that they’d appreciate something else can get the fried Skwovet. Even the same hunt can have different results. No clarification on what they’re getting when they order THS besides potential allergen information. I’d like to keep the air of mystery.
>>5551957Penny does not have a gun, no. It'd be really funny to just pull out a revolver and dome a fucking Greedent though. >>5551964I don't usually allow for combining votes. Particularly for this, since it's about the direction the restaurant is going in. Good point about the last item, though, fuck. I didn't realize there was no cooking method in there. >>5551940I dunno', that Spinarak is a bro.>>5551942>Recurring Menu ItemStew sounds good, but people ought to get used to the idea now.
>>5551970I’ll throw in my two cents for what THS means then and why I combined.I’d imagine THS as a menu item with flexibility, changing both each week and even during the day. It’s basically like ordering an item that says “chef’s choice” (something Penny should be familiar with having worked under a sashimi-specialized chef) on it. What you get depends on how the chef feels like preparing it for you. It may come with many different forms, or just a few depending on how many different variations we can think of. But every hunt and meal tries to be unique, as long as supplies last. That said, due to regulations they do at least know the possible ingredients that can go into it. I’d say toss all possible allergens on the menu, then if anyone has an allergen we can steer the recipe away from them.Personally, I like the idea of “comfortable” food as a baseline. It appeals to all demographics. But we should embrace preparing the hunt in a variety of ways to make sure every meal is special.
>>5551943i also realized this, that maaaaaybe we were the mark but then dismissed it entirely.on that note, that means that the thievul tagged us, either on the hunting camp or before. we DEFINIETLY need either more people or more pokemon helping uswe should befriend the joltiks in our restaurant/house

>>5551916>>5551917Oh. What the fuck. I kinda fucked up here There's supposed to be a couple paragraphs between these two, now the update looks all kinds of fucked up. I cut it due to the character limit but forgot to paste it back in, which is why the update seems like it skipped forward by several lines. Here's the text content. >Pokémon Theft Awareness: Lv. 2No. This isn't a wild Pokémon. You remember now. You've read two separate articles on this. Nickit are a Pokémon favoured by thieves. It was likely a trap from the very beginning. Being attacked out here in the woods puts you in danger, but you're fully certain it belongs to somebody. In that case, it's not going to maul you with the savagery of a wild creature.Scyther used Wing Attack!Without your command, your partner calmly begins to hold his own. He's out of energy to swing his blades around after the lengthy battle, but he still has his wings. You watch him battle the Thievul as the Nickit tries to keep you still. As it starts growling again, you seize a dead Skwovet by the tail and yank it out of the bag, smashing it into the side of the thief's snout. You're aiming to stun, not properly wound it, with the added bonus of getting the web-coated corpse stuck directly onto its face. It topples off your lap and you get to your feet, rapidly seizing your belongings. "HELP! SOMEBODY! HELP!" You scream, then pull a whistle from inside your track shirt and press it to your lips.FWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!>There are other hunters nearby. They'll respond to that call, and you just need to hold out until help comes and the thieves scatter. Goddamn. Hopefully won't mess that up again.
Ooh, general idea for THS. With permission from other hunters, we could use their catches as separate items and brand them with their names/monikers they’d like to go by. Anything we catch would be branded “Penny P.” of course. Show some more solidarity and respect for the local hunters in the area if they feel comfortable with it. If they don’t want recognition they’d be anonymous. So the “list” of available options could go something like:>Penny P. - Skwovet, Greedent>Wilson Jacques - Murkrow>“Grass Surfer” - Tangela>Anonymous - Geodude, Spinarak, Pidove
>>5551980>>5551970>Penny does not have a gun, no. It'd be really funny to just pull out a revolver and dome a fucking Greedent though.seconding the vote of penny buying a gun
>>5552116support this mistake in the forest nearly cost us penny's lifelong pokemon imagine how crushed she would have been if things had not worked out, it's time to get strapped. Now here's hoping this region is a 2A region.
>>5552116Who needs guns when we can have Pokemon? Maybe even GUN-THEMED Pokemon! You know, like a Remoraid or soemthing. A lot of them can do more damage than a firearm, and also, they're more setting-appropriate.
>>5552116>>5551980>>5552118>buying a gunYes.>>5551999Maybe that Spinarak, but never another 'trickster' or 'thief' pokemon.
>>5552141if we can buy a pokemon, sure, lets go with that as well, otherwise we're stuck with taming whatever vermin pokemon lives in penny's house and its surroundings, but at the end of the day we need to be better prepared
>>5552141REMORAID(now im just thinking of that one art i saw of someone holding a remoraid like a gun
>>5552141Get a Ninjask and we'll never be caught off guard again
>>5552007I'll go against joltik as next partner.Plenty of rock/ground pokemon nearby and a pokemon able to battle effectively against them would go a long way instead of a second weakness
>>5552159im just picking them based on easiness to tame/capture and chances of the pokemon trying to murder us. and so far, joltiks fit the bill, plus in theory the restaurant should have some of them in some corners, saving us the time of going to the forest or any other place and hope to find something
>>5552150Octillery?
>>5552166i think he means this image
>>5552166well yeah octillery but we were talking about gunn based mons. and its funny the idea of someone holding a remoraid as a gunn until it evolves
>>5552168not that one . the one im thinking of is from a comic but close enough it gets the point across
>>5552163>Easiness to tameDefinitely a good point; let's not go for dragons>Easiness to captureWilling to go out of the way to get us a nice partner>Type synergyDefinitely not taken into account with your proposition, thus some unwillingness on my side. Electric type would be good for hunting water and type, but rock and ground weaknesses (or lack of offense) hurts. It does not matter to have several weaknesses in a team, but nothing to pass some common typing, that's bad.>Hunt synergyHalf-check with electro-webs, less savage killing than slices, maybe we can get higher grade meat this way>Kitchen synergyUsage fairly limited at the restaurant.Typing that out, makes me realize how clutch a Rotom would be.>Easiness to tameBiggest reason to forget this pokemon, can be miscievious.>Easiness to captureNeed to check out railway, that could be a good place if there are old machines.>Type synergyWhat scream more synergy than adaptability? Would need to invest in compatible hardware though.>Hunt synergyWhat scream more synergy than adaptability? Fitting rotom to the desired hardware can go a long way on a hunt>Kitchen SynergyPerfect oven/Freezer control can open interesting cooking strategies. Washer and mower can save time on chores, if mischieviousness is dealt with
>>5552150>>5552141>>5552168You made me laugh anons. However, I don't see the use of a remoraid/Octillery for Penny barring the strength of having a water type for type synergy and self-defense memes
>>5552208honestly, im not taking type synergy as a factor at all because penny is a hunter. we're deliberately going in unfair fights against pokemon that are (or should be) several levels under us, so type shouldn't really matter; that kind of worries applies to trainers or rangers that are required to fight equally strong or stronger enemies.>getting a rotomYES.>Biggest reason to forget this pokemon, can be miscievious.if penny can deal with a scyther(even if she lucked out with a calm one) she can deal with a rotom>Would need to invest in compatible hardware though.im not concerned about the hardware because rotoms don't need any specific year or model of hardware for it to work. we could buy second hand and outdated equipment for very cheap, and that's without considering going to the local junkyard and getting the appliances from there.
>>5551988>>5552233Alright, let's update the list :>Scent-tracker. Rockruff are solid contenders for the job. I'd avoid Growlithe or Boltund, as typing is not optimal. Houndoor might hunt ghosts but also clients, and Granbull eat babies.>Our own slowpoke, to evolve into Slowking, fitting the theme of the restaurant.>Hypnosis, teleport, cute waiter : Abra, Raltz, Misdreavus, Hatenna>Sobble, giving us a Inteleon body-guard/High-class waiter. Riolu fit this role too.>Spiderbro Joltik/Galvantula (You'll have to sell it to me though)>Jack-of-all-trade Rotom
>>5552004Yeah, no, I agree with this guy.>>5551942Introduce the idea of "The Hunt's Spoils" as a recurring meal, but for this week, that takes the form of Skwovet Stew. It's about branding.>>5552241My recommendations are to get a Pokemon that knows Hypnosis, Sleep Powder, Spore, or Yawn. Hypnosis has the lowest accuracy, Sleep Powder is probably a safer bet overall. Spore and Yawn are sure hits but have drawbacks. Slowpoke can learn Yawn and Teleport, somewhat fitting the bill. Some other notable options would be the Mushroom Crew, Munna, Cherubi, and Chimecho. A male Meowstic stands out as a great debuffer, as well, even without learning Hypnosis. For tracking, consider both moves and 'dex entries. Slurpuff, for example, has an extremely keen sense of smell, but something like Electrike learns Odor Sleuth. Other possible 'mon to work as trackers would be Swinub, Phanpy, Noctowl, Lilipup, and Fidough. Fidough and Milcrey in particular make sense for a chef, as I presume the resources they can provide are renewable. Cherrim too, potentially.Indeedee, Meowstic, and Audino are very good waiter options.A Rotom would be ideal, but I doubt is something that can be easily obtained or found in the wild.
Anons really should have expected the thieving pokemon to be a thief. Joltik and Spinarak are cute and some of my favorites, I wouldn't mind them as a partner. Though string and hanging things isn't really that necessary in a kitchen for the most part, so unless we could hook Joltik up and save some money on utilities I'm not sure what they'd provide.>>5551942>>Write-in.>Skwovet and Greedent meat is full of the flavor of the berries they've eaten in life, and will braise beautifully in a sweet and sour cabbage-based broth. That meat can then be used as a stuffing for ravioli, and given that the last meal for these particular ones were Razz Berries, they'll have a spicy tone. Served with the braising liquid, the plate the customer sees will be sophisticated without being complicated. This method should accentuate the pokemon's best qualities while hiding anything the squeamish might squirm at. Took some liberties but hopefully they're useful, even if they definitely won't win the vote at this late juncture. A curry is another use for squirrel meat, in my experience, but that would cover up the squirrel-ness and our goal as a pokechef is probably to accentuate the qualities of the pokemon in question, I think.
>>5552213>type-coverage>self-defense>memesWhat more do you NEED?
>>5552524+1 but I think this could be this week's method of preparation for >>5551942>Recurring Menu Item: “The Unexpected Hunt’s Spoils”, usually available on Monday and Tuesday. Really go in on the hunting angle. You want people to know that you source your food from the wild. It'll draw attention to the fact that it's a Greedent/Skwovet, but making this a recurring dish on opening day will help establish the fact that you regularly go out hunting and gathering ingredients. (Write in from last thread)
>>5552524Ooh, I like this. Maybe this could be one of the recipes we try out under THS. I’d be willing to back it as an appeasement to the fancy anons.
>>5551942>>5552524I will support this. Maybe minus the cabbage since that seems a bit eww with a stuffed pasta, unless we go with like a wonton soup kinda option. Marinated Greedent meat in a steamed gyoza/wonton served in a leek, cabbage, and stock soup? Would let us use the fact Greedant meat is fatty to our advantage by mincing it fine with some herbs after a quick marinade, maybe with some ginger and garlic to cut any remaining oiliness?
>>5552569Or second idea, Greedant 2 ways. 1st is similar to the 1st, wontons in a rich herb and aromatic forward broth. The second uses the same minced, marinated Greedant and Skwovet filling but steamed then pan fried on the bottem as gyoza, served with a Razz, shoyou, citrus, and dried red pepper dipping sauce, reduced over heat and with a touch of natural sugar and starch to make it slightly sticky when the dumplings are dipped in it.
QM, if you end up going with THS meaning we do different things with every dish like I proposed (some major changes like different recipes, some minor like different spice mixes), I would absolutely allow you to skimp on detailing the dishes in full and doing cutaways to each thing instead. It’s throwing a LOT of writing your way after all.Alternately, do one dish in full detail then do cutaways for the rest. I just want you to find a balance between “anons are voting in interesting ways” and “oh god anons are going to be the death of me”.
>>5552004>>5552607Yeah, I'll probably go with this. It'd be a general branding thing rather than a detailed singular menu item. Keeping the quest enjoyable to both write and read is definitely a major goal, so going the way you've mentioned will prevent any burnout or feeling overwhelmed. >>5552116It's an insanely funny concept, but I'm not gonna put guns into the quest. I feel like having the ability to directly headshot pokemon would take away from the pokemon aspect, even if the quest already tries to be a few layers of realism above the anime and games. >>5552830>Recurring Menu Item: “The Hunt’s Spoils”Hmm. Rather than pick a specific dish to establish the sort of atmosphere you want to capture, you think you'd rather go for a style. You want there to be focus drawn to the fact that you source your food from the wild. It's the most local you can get, and it'll garner support from the people of Lobraise. You especially want to showcase this during the opening event. As you set the pelts aside, to be sold at some other time, you work out a good way to cook them. You want the meat to be the main star of the show, so you make plans to barbecue and roast them. Their flavours tend to have a lot of internal variance, due to their indiscriminate berry diet affecting the flavour in different ways. You wonder if farmed Skwovet could have their tastes guided in a specific direction by feeding them loads of Berries. However, you soon realize that mass production would be inconvenient and expensive. They'd need to source tons of Berries and use them directly as feed, which is impractical outside of a natural environment. The cost of purchasing chow for Pokémon that are by no means premium is a bad investment. The meat is fully cleaned and set in the freezer for tomorrow. You spend some time cooking one for yourself, testing out the recipe that you found online. Some Tomat Berry sauce for spice, bit of garlic rub, then pan roasted to get a nice sear going. As you set the plates out for you and Scyther, you hear a knock from outside. A visitor. You've barely had time to clean up, you've gone straight to cooking after washing your arms up to the shoulder to ensure that no dirt got into the kitchen. The smell of the Repel is still clinging to you, though its effect is gone, and you're not in a state to greet guests. However, it might be something important. You get up and head to the front, where you see a police officer standing on the other side of the glass. Next to him is a Boltund, whose tail is pointed straight up. You get up and open the door."Hi, can-""BOLT! BOLT! BOLT! BOLT!" Immediately, his Pokémon stands at attention. His back arches, and the tail sticks up like an arrow. He begins growling and barking at you, causing you to yell in fright and step back. The policeman stares at his partner in shock, and reaches out to shush the Pokémon. It's too late, however. Scyther bursts out of the kitchen, his wings buzzing noisily and his scythes raised to attack."SCYTHER!" You spread your arms and stand in front of him, preventing him from attacking a Pokémon owned by a cop. The officer is quick to draw his Pokéball and return the Boltund to it. Scyther calms down once the barking dog is gone, but continues to glare at the man from across the room. He sheepishly adjusts his hat and clears his throat, obviously caught off guard by how badly things have gone already.

Setting aside paranoia, it’s true that we lied about being okay. The only reason we still have Scyther is because a wild Spinarak grabbed him from the thief. >>5553979“Yeah. Come in- Wait. Can I see your badge?” Can't hurt to be cautious, and you're certainly in a cautious mood. He nods and reaches into his front pocket to retrieve it. You take a look. You’re not actually sure what Lobraise PD badges are supposed to look like, but it seems legitimate enough. His face is scrunched up and extremely unphotogenic, and he shuffles his feet awkwardly as he shows it to you. It’s clearly him, but a really bad photo. Embarrassing on a badge, even. When you compare the fucked up face on the badge with his real appearance, a light bulb goes off in your head.Hey, this is THE Officer Robert that's been in the news a couple times. You remember seeing a black and white photo of the same image that's on his badge. Seeing it puts you at ease, and you open the door fully. He nods and sits down, eyeing Scyther cautiously."Howdy. How you doing, big guy?""SCY!" Scyther slashes at the air, and Robert stops trying to talk to him. He sits there while you head to the kitchen to get something for your guest. "Behave yourself, Scyther. Officer Robert, tea? Coffee?""Coffee would be great. And please, just Robert." "Coming right up." You emerge a short while later to see Scyther seated on the ground, his legs extended in front of him. Officer Robert is getting comfortable in the chair, with his arms folded on the wooden surface. You set the cup and saucer down in front of him, and he reaches forward to grab a packet of sugar. "Alright. So... Penny, I take it?" "That's me. Penny Pudding." "Right. How are you holding up? Its been a few hours since the incident, correct? How have you been doing?" You shrug, feeling a chill as you think about it. It's not the same kind of chill caused by the creepy haunting. No, this is slightly deeper. More emotional."I'm alright. Dressed the scrapes and just got right back to work.""Good, good. Okay. Since you've invited me in, I assume you're feeling well enough to talk about it?""Yeah. Sure." "Great. So... This afternoon, you were hunting on the route outside Lobraise. And three trained Pokémon showed up to attack you." "Correct. Two Nickit and a Thievul." "Any noticeable markings?" You think back to the incident. No, none you could really think of. There's one NOW, though. "Not really. But one of the Nickit- I had to fight it off. It got something stuck on its face, that ripped off a patch of fur. Whisker or two too, maybe." He lights up as you say that, and quickly jots it down in a notepad. You see him write: 'IDENTIFYING FEATURE: BALD PATCH?' "I see. Yeah, checks out. Same one that's been snatching Pokéballs all week. Did you catch the article about it, by any chance?" No. You do remember seeing one about 'Thief Pokémon' just this morning, but passed up on it. That might have served as a good warning. Too late for regrets, though. "I didn't."
>>5554053"Did you see any sign of a trainer nearby? Anyone giving them commands?" You shake your head. Nope. You didn't have the chance to look closely either, with the chaos of the incident. It's possible someone could have been lurking around, but they might have caught the attention of wild Pokémon in that case. "No, huh? Okay. Do you know anybody who might have wanted to target you? Or by your own judgement, is it more likely to have been a random snatching?"You don't know. You need to think, and you tell him so. "Okay. Okay, okay. No problem. Did you ever encounter the Pokémon before this? Gave them a chance to mark you?" Nope, you don't think so. You've never run into the Thievul before. He slowly stands up, causing Scyther to recoil. "I think I might have some inkling. I'd like to send my partner out again. Could you return Scyther to his ball?" You reluctantly do so. He raises his Pokéball, showing it clearly to you and ensuring that he's not catching you by surprise, then sends out Boltund again. The large dog stands in the spot Scyther occupied a moment ago. The moment he's out, he starts spinning in circles and barking at you. You clutch the edge of the table and stare at it, as he growls and sniffs at the air. "What's wrong, boy? You smell something?""BOLT!" "Okay. That's enough. Come back, boy." Robert returns Boltund to the ball and turns towards you again. He settles back into the seat and takes a big gulp of coffee."Ah- Hot. Hot. Okay. Yeah. He definitely smells the mark on you, can you think of when they might have had an opportunity to leave it?" Not really. Maybe during the actual attack, as they were fleeing, but it's also something you need to think about. He continues asking questions about your welfare and the incident, and you spend some time answering to the best of your ability. He's never too harsh about it, and has more than enough patience, even when you take a long time to think. You want to wrap it up fast so that you can get back to preparing for your opening event. He takes a lot longer than you to finish his cup of coffee, and you offer him another one. "Oh, no thank you, Penny. I think we're about done here. I'll keep looking into it. Promise to get you an update when I can." "Thanks, Officer." "Robert is fine." "Thanks, Robert." He smiles and gets up, gently pushing in his chair.
>>5554054"Welcome to Lobraise. I'm sorry something this unfortunate has happened to you so early on. We're a nice town, full of nice people. And I'll make sure this doesn't happen again." You nod, following him to the door as he prepares to leave. You've still got to invite him to the opening event. Maybe having off-duty officers there will passively reduce trouble. It's not like you can request a real police presence, it'll just be an invite that doubles up as security. >Let him go after some parting words, including asking him to drop by tomorrow. >>5554070it doesn't check out. unless they were trailing us for weeks(and were willing to go to a remote hunting ground), a thief would have gotten bored and would have picked a different target or have gotten after us when we were in a more vulnerable position, or the mark itself would have disappeared with the passing days. hell, i doubt they would have been willing to attack in a zone they are not used to. personally believe it was someone in the hunting group that is the thief>>5554056>Tell him anything important you might have realized. >>5554089Still, that requires inmense amounts of luck for the thief and the mark to be in the same place, specially weeks after we were given the repell.Your hypothesis also relies on only one hunting ground existing and only hunters being targetted which is false on both counts. >>5554056>Tell him anything important you might have realized. (Write-in)Backing the repel being the marker. The salesman is still around, and he would have been passing them to a variety of people so it’s not like he was waiting on us. For that matter, should we still be smelling the repel right now? I’m genuinely curious. The fact that it’s in a repel gives a couple advantages. The first is that you only use repels when you’re worried about pokemon attacking you, so you’re likely isolated. If multiple people use a repel in a small area it may be enough to ward them off, but in our case we had no one else. It also clears out most wild pokemon that could interfere with the snatching unintentionally. They likely have a small crew always around the main hunting areas to pounce on people using the repel. There’s a good mix of targets, isolation, skilled pokemon (we’re not trainers but restaurant pokemon have a different skillset I’m sure less scrupulous chefs would pay for) and the ability to evade detection out there. If they searched the woods, I’m sure they’d at least find a camp.

>>5554056>Tell him anything important you might have realized. (Write-in)I'll support the repel theory. Should be easy to test if we still have the empty can in our truck. Should mention the Ice Fang move as well, could be a good identifier. It makes a lot of sense in hindsight, hand out repels to targets with valuable pokemon or what looks like easy target, but encase Nikit pheromones in them. >>5555415You have two theories in mind as Officer Robert gets ready to leave. However, you're only confident enough to tell him one. Throwing multiple theories out there might just confuse him and make it harder. You tell him to wait, then head upstairs to grab the bag that you deposited. Inside is a bunch of trash, including your Repel can, which you've held on to this whole time. You don't want to litter in the woods, so it's common courtesy to keep all of it in a plastic back till you're back in civilization. "Last Sunday, I met this man at the bar..." You describe Harry. Red hair, suit, formal looking guy, and the fact that he travels around. Then you offer the filthy trashbag to Robert, who stares at it blankly. "He gave me a Repel, and I sprayed it on myself. Maybe... that was how the smell could have gotten on me? I can't think of any other opportunity." His face immediately lights up, and he takes the bag without hesitation. That's a lead. That's a real lead he can use for this case. You spend a couple more minutes explaining how Coordinator Micah was at the same bar, and how Harry seemed to take a lot of interest in him. Then you mention how he seemed the same way with your Scyther."This is good. We'll take this for analysis. Thanks, Penny, you've been a real help. If you need anything, just call, okay?" "Thanks, Robert. Hey, by the way... We're having an opening event tomorrow. Would you happen to be interested in coming by? Maybe to eat free." "Ah? I couldn't possibly! That would be like bribery, since I'm handling your case. But I'll see about coming down with some of the boys, okay? I haven't had a chance to try the seafood yet." You both shake hands, and soon enough, he's heading back to his cruiser and rolling off towards the station. You've spent a while talking to him, and you're behind on preparations, but it's for a good cause. Harry said he was leaving on Sunday. That's today. He might already be gone, but there's at least a chance now.
>>5555445>Bond with Officer Robert increased! You and Scyther get back to work after a short break. Throughout the evening, you receive a couple of deliveries of bouquets and stands, which you bring inside and set by a wall. You'll place them outside tomorrow. Masao has already sent you a congratulations bouquet, and you smile as you see the size difference between it and ones from other companies. Most of them are from associates and acquaintances, but you notice one with plenty of green leaves and yellow buds. >Welcome to the club, Penny- Anissa. Aw, that's sweet. There'll be more arriving at dawn, probably, and you'll have your work cut out for you in arranging them. Macy and Liam are coming by extra early to help with whatever prep you can't do by today. Your next step is to mount the sign you've commissioned. Passer-by's on the street watch you clamber up a stepladder and fiddle with the 'PENNY'S' sign outside the restaurant, pulling it down letter by letter and gently setting it on a pad of styrofoam. You replace it with a freshly ordered Slowpoke sign, with its cute little anglers hat and its tail dipping into blue water. A Shellder waits to chow down on the tail. Perfect. The Tall Tale is born.Even when night falls, you're still not done. You'd be too antsy to sleep even if you ran out of work to do. You assign special seating for those who have reserved the Ducklett orders, cordoning off the areas with red rope so they're clearly marked as VIP zones. Then you assign spots to the media. They like to take photos of food, they can't do that when the place is overcrowded. They'll require a section where they can eat and write in their own time. Then there's the rest of the dining room, which you expect to be filled to capacity. Next up, you check on the food. There are bowls of chopped salsa in the fridge, you're all stocked up on frozen ingredients, and the Ducklett are currently hanging in the locker room as they marinate. Fish prep will only start tomorrow morning, and you ensure there's room in the fridges. Scyther heads to bed, completely tuckered out from the hunt, while you sit at a table and go over last minute details. You drift off right there at the desk past midnight, getting less than six hours of sleep before your alarm rings. =====You're too uncomfortable to linger at the desk beyond the first ring, so you immediately get up and prod Scyther awake. He's been thrashing in his sleep, and has left a scratch on the wall, which you cringe at internally. That's gonna be a pain to clean up. The two of you head to the dining table to get a quick breakfast. You have a couple of minutes until Liam and Macy get here, and barely have time for your morning routine. You skim the papers for anything of note.>A daring theft attempt! The choices we have as player really feels meaningful, and we have to pay attention to details. Can't wait for us to choose a next partner, this will be a nice mid-term goal after opening event. Also, as I'm often phoneposting, should I namefag or Tripfag to avoid confusion as I love to debate and by no mean wants to be counted for more than one lone autist? Should I STFU as you fellow players feel I'm shitting up the thread?
>>5552569>Maybe minus the cabbage since that seems a bit eww with a stuffed pasta, unless we go with like a wonton soup kinda option.I was thinking about a specific famous Chinese cabbage soup, kaishui baicai, which looks like poverty food, since it's just blanched cabbage leaves floating in what looks like water but is really a complex and labor-intensive clarified broth. You use lean fresh pork, rooster, duck, cured ham, and a lot of vegetables to start the liquid, and then mince chicken until it's a paste to create the clarification 'raft'. In French cooking, which is already extravagant, you clarify with egg whites, rather than meat, so that should tell you how prestigious kaishui baicai is in ChinaI was also thinking about Thai or Mexican food, like empanadas, since Razz Berries are spicy, but they didn't feel fancy enough to me
>>5555761>Empanados didn't feel fancyIt's a matter of pricing and presentation. What if your empanadas were given out on Paldean Glassblown taco holder? Just a problem of silverware, really. And now I have in my head a glass-blower that have a rotom-furnace and a Sandaconda
>>5555449>Gastrodon Gastronomy- Does ANYONE eat it? Looks like Gastrodon is Water/ground typing so it’d be easy for us to incorporate into our cooking if it does give us any ideas.
>>5555768>empanadas>on taco holdersnono, you're looking at it from the wrong angle; its not silverware what you want, but how you present them and how you make the shell
>>5555741Sorry about that. Switching to>Gastrodon Gastronomy- Does ANYONE eat it?
>>5555754>Also, as I'm often phoneposting, should I namefag or Tripfag to avoid confusion as I love to debate and by no mean wants to be counted for more than one lone autist? >>5555754I don't mind, yeah. Locking in the Pidove option, gonna write now.
>>5556319>Stewview crackdown intensifies after mass evolution among wild Pidove. Residents of Stewview have been regularly protesting the hunting of the semi-native Pidove population ever since the Wokhei Parks and Wildlife Association legalized their culling. Activists have clashed with local business enterprise Gideon & Greedent on multiple occasions, and despite public outcry, the company has not commented on their continued use of Pidove in their TV dinners. Some citizens seem to have taken things into their own hands. Arnold Dover, 36, was recently fined 70,000 p for the illegal releasing of captured Pokémon in city centres. He's far from the first, however, and believes he won't be the last."I don't regret anything. These Pidove have lived here for years. It's about time they learnt to defend themselves." Arnold is just one of the many concerned citizens who have been capturing Pidove, training them, then releasing them back into the middle of the city. Unauthorized and careless releases are the number one cause of the spread of invasive Pokémon species in Wokhei. Typically, this involves trainers releasing their Pokémon into other ecosystems. However, the recent issue has been an unusual case. The Pidove are an endemic species and are already integrated into Stewview. Trainers strengthening them has caused a large proportion to evolve into the more powerful Tranquil, hampering the efforts of hunters. In response, people assigned to capture them have resorted to using more powerful Pokémon to battle their evolved forms. "All day, I hear thunder outside," complained one resident, who lives in an apartment overlooking the city square. "It was never this bad in the past, can't they just leave them be?" Despite the clash between hunters and citizens, the Pidove population seems to be dropping drastically. Large flocks have already fled the city, and those that remain are the strongest among them. Only time will tell how far this urban warzone will develop.=====
>>5556389You put your phone away and start clearing your dishes. You just throw the cereal bowl into the sink and run some water into it. You don't have time to scrub your personal cutlery, it's time to get to work. The Pidove situation seems to be developing pretty quickly. Eventually, you expect there to be some kind of regulation change. Either when they realize the population has dropped enough, or when public outcry reaches a peak. You've even seen petitions pop up over the past couple weeks.Downstairs, Liam and Macy are standing outside and admiring the flowers. The sun hasn't come up yet, and the two of them are standing outside beneath the circle of light that the street lamp casts. You unlock the door for them. "Morning boss," Macy yawns."Nice sign," says Liam, as he steps inside to take a look around. You've cordoned off the tables already, so you take a few minutes to explain things to them. There's the media seating area, which you need them to check every so often, in case the reporters need anything. Then there's VIP, which should get priority, meant for large parties who've ordered the Ducklett to come by at their specific reservation timings. Finally, the regular area. Same as always. You give the two instructions to move the flowers outside and help sign off on any flower deliveries. You wish you had a bit more help, having more hands would have been useful. Scyther isn't good for lifting, and can't help with logistics either, so he just stands there in the kitchen aimlessly. His mood has lightened a little, but he still lingers near you with clear concern in his eyes. You check on the various dishes that you've pre-prepped. Ducks are all marinated, the sauce for the Greedent and Skwovet is done, and the ingredient delivery trucks are slowly rolling by the back entrance to the restaurant. You're well on track. But oh, man. You're nervous as hell. Opening time is soon. By now, plenty of people in town already know about your restaurant through organic means and word of mouth. The ads you've put out, both online and in the papers, have taken quite a bit of budget, but you're sure it's worth it. You've seen plenty of comments and Sliggoogle reviews, so they're definitely reaching your intended audience. Ten in the morning is your usual opening time, and that's when you expect people to start flooding in.
>>5556390Attending media outlets will be The Daily Dex, Lobraise Today, indie blogger Mandy Buzz, and Valentina again. You've put out a press release during your week of prep, so they know what to expect. The members of the media get a plus one, and will be assigned to the big round tables away from the door. You've got two Ducklett ready for each table of four, so they can properly sample it. Speaking of Ducklett, your reservation list is looking great. It maxed out yesterday, and assuming they all show up, you'll be able to sell every Ducklett you've prepared, not counting the backups. Darrell's family is on the list, and so is Fenton. There are some regulars whose names you don't recognize, but you're certain there'll be faces you already know among the VIP list. By eight in the morning, all the welcome bouquets have been set outside. It's a beautiful sight. They line the street, drawing the eye from far away and making it clear that something special is going on at the Tall Tale. More than a few people stop to take photographs. You spend most of that time in the kitchen, while Liam and Macy unpack and move ingredients around. You feel a bit bad not helping with any of the heavy lifting yourself, but you're the only person capable of scaling and fileting fish, so you do what you must. Time flies by rapidly. There's just so many things to do. At nine thirty, you clean yourself up and step outside, where there's a decently sized crowd outside already. Not all of them are lining up. Some are just drawn by an existing crowd and want to watch. Rather than amateurs with phones, you notice actual photographers taking shots of the front of your building now. You smile and wave to the few faces you recognize, and the sight of you draws the attention of the reporters. One of them heads over. He's a short, stout man with black hair styled like an upside down triangle. "Excuse me! You're Penny, right? Owner?" "I am. Nice to meet you." You notice the lanyard hanging from his neck. "Oliver. Lobraise Today. Could me and my buddy get inside, take some pictures?" He motions to a nervous looking youth next to him. An intern, probably. You nod and invite them inside, instructing Liam to show them around and keep them out of the kitchen. Upon seeing this, another lady and her cameraman walks towards you, extending a hand in greeting. "Hi! Mandy here. I'd like to get in too, if that's alright?" She's a tall, dark-skinned woman in high heels and a navy blue jacket, with a white top underneath. She definitely looks professional, and carries herself with more poise than Oliver. You nod and invite her in as well, where she gets to work on photographing the interior. Unlike Oliver, who only takes photos of the decor, Mandy includes herself in most of the shots.
>>5556392Lastly, fifteen minutes before opening, you see a large camera at the back of the crowd. There's a man dressed completely in grey speaking to it, making sure to capture the sea of customers in the backdrop. Grey hair, grey beard, grey shoes, he looks just as professional as Mandy. Once he's done getting shots and speaking into a microphone, he walks over to you. Your hand shoots out to meet his. "Maurice, from The Daily Dex. How you doing today, missy?" "Good! Good. Excited to open. Almost time." "You planning on giving a speech or something?" Oh. Shit. You didn't think of one. You intended on just cutting a ceremonial ribbon and ushering customers in, but it stands to reason that you'd have to make a speech as well. "Um... Yeah. I will." "Good, good. Listen, we've got a couple questions for you, if you don't mind? Not now, of course. Would love if you could make time for us during the day." You nod. They're the biggest media outlet among the ones you've invited. It'll benefit you to give them material for an article. With only fifteen minutes left, you slink inside to ask your two employees for help. You cluster in the kitchen, away from Mandy, Oliver, and their extras, who glance curiously at you as you whisper to your staff."You gotta help me." Macy nods thoughtfully as you explain the situation."A speech. Just say something from the heart. Y'know?" "What if you promote the restaurant a bit? Talk up the food and all." Liam chimes in."Scyther! Scyther!" "Yeah, or what he said.">Sentimental. Locking in Sentimental, time to write a speech. No objections to the write in? I’ll use those points if so.
>>5557439No objections here, QM. Though you seem to have dropped your trip.
>Sentimental. Get out there and make an opening day speech about how happy you are to be here, what the restaurant means to you, thank your regulars, sappy stuff like that, which makes you stand out as a member of this community you're now living in. You'll come up with something sincere. You have fifteen minutes, and that's all. Less, actually, now that you've spent a bit of time consulting your workers. You can't even write a script, you need talking points and things to mention. It's something you have to do by yourself (maybe with Scyther there too), and the other two can't help with it much more than they already have. The clock ticks by slowly, and you hear the crowd on the other side. There are quite a lot of people queuing to get in, and the sidewalk is packed with people taking photos. Your media guests have all left the restaurant in preparation for you to come out front and make your speech. At ten o' clock sharp, you and Scyther step outside. The flashing cameras stun you for a moment and cause your partner to flinch. Liam and Macy are on either side of the door, and as you walk past them, they stretch a pink ribbon out to block the entrance. There are cheers and claps from the people who already know you, and it causes the rest of the audience to join in."Uh... Hi!" You don't even have a microphone, so the crowd quiets down to hear you. It's still a bit hard, as the ambient sounds of the open street drown you out at times, but you take a deep breath and find your rhythm.“I didn’t actually prepare a speech. It’s been busy, and getting all this organized with just four employees is hard.” You motion to the decor and the big sign above you. There are some good-natured snickers among the audience. “I’ve been here in Lobraise about two weeks now, so it’s about time we hold something big like this. In that time, I’ve met a lot of good people. A lot. It was scary, setting out on my own and starting up a restaurant without my master’s guidance, but I’m glad I picked Lobraise. It’s a town with a lot of heart, and I’m glad I’m living here now.” “Woo!”People clap and whoop as you compliment the city. Oliver from the local news is moving around, getting multiple angles of you. His intern holds the microphone.“I’m glad all of you had the time to be here today. I really hope that here at the Tall Tale, we can get to know you guys and become a place that suits anyone at all. It’s been challenging to find time to get to talk to people, only so much I can do in a day, but I’m really working on it.”
>>5557869Scyther stands next to you, impatiently waiting for the cue to cut the ribbon. “Here at my restaurant, I want to sell high quality food with fresh ingredients, even if that means it costs a bit more to transport it. I take pride in my cooking, and I make sure to gather ingredients from the very same woods that surround town. I want the Tall Tale to become a place everyone can see as a local institution, and I hope I achieve that soon.” The audience is starting to chat among themselves. You’re no master orator, and the passive volume is slowly increasing, making it a bit harder to talk without being spoken over. Time to end it. “Well, it’s past ten. So I guess opening hours are starting. Let’s just get this started, so we can get to cooking. I recognize a whole bunch of you guys, you’re probably hungry already. Scyther!” “-THER!”He slices the ribbon in half. Liam flinches as the blade is swung, but joins in the cheering as the pink satin falls apart in his grip. You and Scyther are the first ones to go back in, and Liam and Macy help guide the guests to their seats.===== It’s easily the biggest crowd you’ve gotten. You’re completely swamped with customers, and once noon hits, the queue outside gets painfully long. You worry about people spending too long eating, instead of leaving when they’re done to make space, and with just three people it’s hard to stay on top of things. You don’t even have time to leave the kitchen for an hour straight, as you’re the only one capable of preparing the orders. You need a second chef. That’s your bottleneck at the moment. However, it’ll be a challenge to find someone who meets your standards. Regular days won’t be as packed as opening day too, so it’ll be less hectic tomorrow. The media folk don’t bother you for information. They take their photos, try the food, and then sit there. Valentina doesn’t show up at the requested timing of 10am that you penned down in the press release. When you finally get a bit of free time and check on Mandy, she smiles and waves you off. “I know how it gets. All of us do, actually. We’re probably going to just leave and come back in the off-peak. Not like you’ll be free to answer questions for a while, right?”You nod gratefully, and as the media folk trail out, you quickly get Macy to remove the dividers and create several more seats for customers. You whip up endless amounts of Battered Blue Basculin, pan-seared Veluza filet, Skwovet BBQ, and of course, your signature Ducklett. The problem with making whole Ducklett an exclusive item is that when people are told they can’t order it during a walk-in, they just get the quinoa instead. You run out completely halfway through the lunch rush.
>>5557871You've underestimated its popularity, and you've even doubled the amount you stocked. While you're walking around and apologizing to guests for not having any more Ducklett for the quinoa, you take notice of several different groups that catch your eye. You barely have any free time, but you feel like you want to at least show yourself on the main floor for a bit. Otherwise, all people will see during lunch hour is your waiters. Fenton's group is in attendance! He's here with a bunch of people who look just as dreary and goth as he does. He stares at you with his usual expression and raises a hand to wave. He's ordered the whole Ducklett, and Macy is demonstrating what you showed her and Liam this morning. She's placing the thin slices onto the even thinner pancakes, setting down tiny bits of cucumber and leek, dropping a little bit of sauce, then wrapping it up into a miniscule taco. Few people here in town have had Pecking Ducklett before, and they look visibly amazed.Officer Robert is here again. He's with his partner, a policewoman with frizzy red hair that sticks out from underneath her cap. She's wearing it indoors, and even has a pair of sunglasses on. He waves at you. In front of him is a bowl of Clampearl chowder, Krabby Cakes, and baked Arrokuda. He glances around the restaurant every so often, but looks pretty relaxed.Lastly, the large group that you served a couple days ago is back. They've gotten VIP seats as well, and are noisily laughing while eating the Ducklett. They've gotten multiple orders of Clauncher and Shellder tongue. They definitely look like out of towners, passing through on their way to somewhere else. There's a lot of dyed hair in that group. >Fenton, you can take some time to catch up. It's his first time here, you want to make sure he's enjoying the food.>Robert. He's accepted your invitation. Maybe he has a follow up on the case. You're super busy today, but a few minutes won't hurt.>The diners. Big group. Keep them happy and they'll hopefully tip well and keep ordering. Macy and Liam are too busy to thoroughly attend to every group, but this one looks beneficial to butter up.

>>5557874>Fenton, you can take some time to catch up. It's his first time here, you want to make sure he's enjoying the food.also on another note qm i did find the quote about the gun. i said i was gonna check the first thread. this was from the first post of the hunt>You don't have any weapons on you apart from a captive bolt pistol locked away in a box. just wanted to prove i wasnt going crazy dont mind the retcon XD.
>>5558072Retcon it to a slingshot
>>5558072Oh! I completely forgot about that. Yeah, that's a thing. I didn't remember what I wrote about it because Scyther became the main way of hunting. What the bolt pistol was originally intended for was if you guys picked the other two starters. Munna's purpose would have been to knock wild pokemon unconscious and defeat them non-lethally, but it would be up to Penny to execute them with the pistol to the head. It would have been a more dangerous way to deal with them, as opposed to Scyther directly killing with his claws.>Munna (Psychic). You wanted to get a Drowsee to fill the same niche, but the stereotypes around it steered you towards this Pokémon instead. You suppose Munna is kinda cool too, with its... pink flower pattern. It excels in putting prey to sleep and allowing you to work out a way to dispatch them. You find yourself dragging them through the woods often, so you can find a safe place to euthanise them without attracting predators to the blood. Trying to take out a Pokémon without attacking it is quite the ordeal, but the rewards are all the greater for it. (- Hunting, + Meat Quality)Thank you for the reminder, though. I'll make a note that Penny has it, and it'll exist in future hunts. However, it's not a ranged weapon. It's a dispatch tool used in slaughterhouses. There might be opportunity to use it with different partners.
>>5557874>>Robert. He's accepted your invitation. Maybe he has a follow up on the case. You're super busy today, but a few minutes won't hurt.Too late for switching the vote around, but still would love the follow up
>>5557888also sidenote. i am worried about them at first i thought they may be team dash. but also they were here a couple weeks ago and didnt do that but perhaps they were scouting the place out? but i wanna give them the benifit of the doubt
>>5558214couple days ago*
>>5558214Same over here. But we have Bobby with us. Would Team Dash try to expose themself at opening event?So... Our bottleneck is the chef right now. We should Tier up Scyther, and start thinking about a new companion. My sight is set on Rotom, >QM, would Rotom-Scyther combination count as one chef?
>>5558242I'd say it wouldn't. Scyther wouldn't be able to replace a human, who can function as an actual employee. Not even with a Rotom helping out by creating smart appliances.
Locking in Fenton
>>5558795>FentonYou head over to Fenton and his buddies. They almost look like they're in uniform, with the dark shades of clothing, frilly lace, eyeshadow, and coloured hair extensions. They absolutely look like the kind of people who would frequent the Phantom Pourhouse. Fenton is the least edgy among them, with his face unadorned by powder or black lipstick- only the dark eyebags that seem even clearer in daylight. "Fenton. Hey! Glad you could make it." "Hello, Penny." He smiles. "I've brought some friends." One of the goths, a girl with a nose ring who's a little shorter than you, puts down her fork and stares directly at your face. She then closes her eyes and holds a hand out, scrunching her face up in concentration. "I feel your aura... It is... a bright orange. No, red? What time of the year were you born in?" She's interrupted by a pimply-faced, slightly portly boy, who holds out a purple crystal sloppily bound to a necklace by wire. "Would you like a crystal? I've charged them up with energy. It'll protect you from the darkness." The third of his friends, a greasy looking guy with a hawkish nose and trench coat, crosses his arms and turns his head to the side, making a 'hmph' noise.Man, what the fuck. They're all chuuni larpers. If it wasn't for the fact that you had a very real exorcism (banishment?) performed by Fenton, you would have chalked him up as one of them. Macy looks at you with an expression of pity and understanding, then walks off to let you attend to the guests. She's gotten a lot more confident over the last week, and is getting into a good rhythm. "No thanks. I don't have much time, but how's the food, everybody?" "How is anything, really?" quips crystal boy. "It must be savoured, of course, for life was taken to grant us this meal. I feel vengefulness oozing from each mouthful... Forgive me Ducklett..." says the guy in the coat."Yes, it's good," Fenton replies.
>>5558841"How do you guys know each other?" "University," says the aura girl."School's out for now. We're back here in town for a while." The crystal guy slurps noisily on his tomato soup. The red stains on the side of his powdered face make him look like a b-movie vampire. "Fenton, you're in school too?" you ask, looking at him curiously. He shakes his head."I'm not. I've graduated. These are my juniors." "And you're all from Lobraise?" He nods and gently picks up a piece of Ducklett folded in the pancake. He chews and swallows, savoring the succulent meat, the crispy skin, and the thin layer of sweet fat between the two. "I would like to find more time to talk. I suppose it was foolish to assume that you would have a spare moment on opening day, it looks crowded." "Yeah. It's busy. Good for business, but I'm completely swamped. I think I should get back to cooking. It was nice meeting your friends." "Take care, Penny. Ah, and... It seems we might have to meet again soon. For you-know-what." He looks behind you.You haven't felt anything so far, but you nod and agree with him. You didn't strangle any Pokémon with your bare hands yesterday, but there's probably still nasty things clinging to you. When you start to feel affected again, you'll seek him out. You walk away from their table, feeling the other three stare at you and whisper. >Bond with Fenton increased!
>>5558842You look around the restaurant on your way back to the kitchen. Half of the large party seems to be gone, and Robert's partner is missing as well. A big downside of getting a place like this is that there's no room for a bathroom. You have a small sink in a corner, so people can wash their hands, but there's nowhere for them to go, and you're not about to invite people upstairs just to mess your toilet up. It's rather inconvenient, as it's a short walk through the street to a public bathroom. "Hey. Excuse me? Sir." Macy is calling out to the remaining half of the big group. They've gotten up, picked up their things, and are headed for the door. "Sir!" She raises her voice a little bit. Robert turns to watch. They're very clearly speeding up, squeezing past diners and ignoring the payment counter on the other end of the room. You glance towards the table, where they've eaten half the food and left a huge mess on the table, with sauce and bones everywhere. Their bags and coats are all with them, so there's no indication of them leaving the seats behind temporarily. "Can you-" They speed up. It becomes a jog rather than a brisk walk, and they're clearly trying to escape now. A diner shouts in rage as one of the dashers knocks their soup into their lap with an errantly swinging sling bag. Another nearly trips over the back of somebody's chair, and the impact causes him to choke on the glass of soda. Robert stands up, glaring at the unruly customers, but is unable to catch up on time. They're awfully brazen to do this right in front of a cop. Liam, who's dealing with a customer by the door, notices the commotion. As everyone turns to watch the attempted dine and dash, he sets the menu on the table and shifts about uneasily, unsure of what to do.>"Liam! Stop them!" >Don't do anything. Let them go.Team Dash theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtkI_KyUbDk

>>5559956>Don't do anything. Let them go.You almost yell for Liam to do something about it. Before you make that mistake in a panic, however, you consider the situation. He's one teenager against a mob of fleeing goons. Trying to stop them would just get him hurt. They could push him out of the way easily. That would cause the cops to crack down even harder on them, but he could fall onto a table or get punched. Supermarket employees are told to just let shoplifters walk out with goodies, loss to sales isn't worth trying to be a hero. You should do the same, it's a part time job."Liam! Get out of the way!" You feel an ache in your heart as the door is yanked open. The bell rings noisily, and they charge out of the restaurant. That's a huge bill they've racked up, and you won't see a cent of it. As you look at them through the glass, one collides directly with Robert's partner, who was just about to come back in. She staggers back, and it slows the group enough for him to get through the door and give chase. As he stabilizes her, he whips out his radio and turns to you through the glass as he chatters something into it. He has an expression on his face that clearly says 'leave it to me', and he vanishes down the street in hot pursuit of Team Dash. The rest of your customers watch in shock and amazement. Scyther peeks his head out from the kitchen to observe the commotion, and you walk over to Liam to check on him. Fortunately, he listened to you, and he's untouched. "You okay?" "Yeah... Sorry, I couldn't do anything to stop them." "Me too. They just got up so fast," Macy whines, staring at her feet and wringing her hands." "Hey. Its got nothing to do with you two, don't worry. You're not security." The customers around you nod in agreement. Some of them have their brows furrowed, and they clearly look pissed at the situation. The audacity of these out of towners! Fenton and his friends are looking right at you as well. It's a loss, but you handled it the way you ought to have. You turn towards the diners, feeling pressured to make a small announcement. "Uh... I'm sorry about that, everyone. If anyone's food has been knocked over, we'll replace it." Another loss. You cringe as you look at the guy with the Tamato soup soaking into his pants. However, Liam comes to your rescue, playing to the crowd's mood.
>>5560028"But if you all want to help out, maybe order some more desert or sides, huh?" Seeing you get screwed over by hooligans like this has put plenty of them in a vindictive mood. You're a part of town now. You're one of them. True enough, quite a few people make extra orders that you probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Fenton's group is included in this, and you nod gratefully as you head to the freezer to pull out drinks and ice cream, or heat up cheese sticks and toss Clampearls in sauce. It's not enough to cover everything, but it helps soften the blow. You look at your two employees gratefully, then return to the kitchen to cook with Scyther."Scy?""Just some trouble outside, buddy." Restaurants don't usually have security. You're not cooking in a shopping centre either, so you don't get the benefit of mall security. At least inviting the two officers made sure that the situation is being dealt with at this very moment. You consider using Scyther as some kind of guard, but dismiss the idea quickly. He doesn't have the self control needed for you to sic him on a person. Plus, that's very clearly assault. He also works in the kitchen most of the time, and you want to keep him away from customers when necessary. If you somehow get hit by a lawsuit so early in the Tall Tale's life, you're doomed. The lunch rush subsides, but you still have a ton of customers. You hope it lasts past opening day. The damage that Sizzlipede Sizzlers did to your customer base is definitely on track to being reversed. At about three in the afternoon, the media folk come back. You get Liam and Macy to cordon off the area again, and head over to attend to them. Still no sign of Valentina, even though you sent her an invite. Oliver seems a little antsy as he sits down. He immediately turns to you to ask his questions. "I wanted to ask about yesterday's incident. We pushed an article out this morning, have you read it? I hoped to get a real statement from you, for an update tomorrow."Maurice shifts in his seat, a glass of lemonade in front of him. He sips it as he chimes in."I heard there was an incident earlier? Right after we left, too. I think I'd like to know more about that." Mandy, however, glances towards them with just a touch of disdain."I'd like to know more about you, actually. Your restaurant and such. I'm here to cover the Tall Tale itself." You want to answer all their questions. However, there are enough customers that you're constantly being forced back to the kitchen to cook. They're understanding and polite about it, but it must be grating to have interviews interrupted every few minutes. You should probably focus on one subject to talk at length about, in between orders. That'll affect what they report about your restaurant. It's opening day, what you give them will be more important than ever.

Let's stay on topic.
>Answer Maurice of The Daily Dex's question. Team Dash is a regional issue. Talking about how you've just gotten hit might bring you a bit of popularity in other cities. It's a good chance to get the name of your place out there, and get people on your side as a restaurant that's suffered due to those ruffians. It aligns quite well with our goal of being a high-class restaurant. Also, as Maurice and Oliver are on a similar subject, we can try>Propose Oliver and Maurice a collaborative articleOne question each, starting from Oliver and finishing with Maurice. Get them some good PR.Should build a bit of local support, and it ties a bit into the restaurant process. Maurice is left more in the cold, but can’t please everyone. At least the hunting community knowledge is something that applies to all regions, not just a local area.

Closing the voting, I think Mandy wins, but will recount as I write. Also, after the holiday season ended, I kinda found that I was having a lot more time when only doing one post. It’s not hard to update daily in the afternoon whenever I wake up, but if I happen to post late, there’s very little voting time before the evening, where I have to make time at night to update a second time. I think from now, I’ll just go for one a day, with two happening if I happen to have free time. I stuck with two at first to force myself into an anti-flaking pacing, and as a writing exercise for myself, but I think I’m satisfied enough to drop to one.
>>5560935You do you QM.But as an entitled player, I really liked the two solids updates a day. However, as a fellow QM, Fatigue can creep in and life is, well, life.
>>55609351 update a day is standard, so there's no shame in dropping. I'd rather you keep running than burn out.
>>5560935>Answer Mandy's question, for her independent blog: Mandy Buzz. She's here to report on the food, and on your restaurant process. Give her that, rather than switching the topic to things that have happened to you. You'd talk about all three things if you had time. There's been a whirlwind of activity surrounding you the past day. You're stressed and frazzled from it, but it's publicity. Unfortunately, with the limited time you have, you're only able to give them tidbits of information. You confirm the type of Pokémon that attacked you, and mention the dine and dash and how the officers gave chase, but most of your focus is on Mandy. You make it clear that your food and restaurant is a priority. "Where'd you learn to cook, Penny?" "I studied under a master and then took the exam privately." "Master?" "Yeah. Masao, from Simmersand." "THE Masao? The spearfisher?" She asks, her eyes growing wide. Oliver looks confused, but Maurice leans forward in interest. You've definitely given public information on this before. To Valentina. Maybe they just haven't read her article, or she didn't report it for some reason. "The one and only." Maurice flips his notepad to a new page, and Mandy continues asking questions. "What was learning from him like?" "It was thorough. Tough love. He taught me everything I know about hunting and preparing Water-type Pokémon. There are still plenty of things I haven't learnt, like his specialties. But I've developed some of my own." You reply with a hint of pride."Like your Ducklett?" "Exactly- Huh?" You turn around, interrupted by Liam. He whispers something into your ear. "Right. Sorry, I need to go cook some-" Mandy waves you off. "Of course. Go on, we'll wait." You stand up semi-apologetically and march towards the kitchen. The rest of your interview goes on in this manner. It's constantly interrupted, and there's no momentum and flow due to the busy work day. You stare at the queue outside anxiously. It never gets too long, fortunately, unlike lunchtime, but you're filled to capacity on multiple occasions, even during the hours that ought to be quieter.
>>5560974The statements you give Mandy are all about your restaurant. You talk about supplying them from Simmersand and getting deliveries daily, briefly thinking of Valentina's schizo episode about what constitutes 'today' in terms of freshness. You talk about hunting and liasing with locals, and make a short mention about how they helped you out yesterday when you were in trouble. Throughout it all, you paint The Tall Tale as a restaurant focusing on high quality ingredients that are transformed into high quality food. Few shortcuts. There are things like frozen food and appetizers that are fine to skimp on, but all the main courses are handled by you."Doesn't it get tiring? You're the sole chef, aren't you?" Oliver asks. "Maybe you'd like to hire somebody else?"He runs a local paper. This is your chance. You nod as you lean back in your chair, wiping a stray fish scale off on your apron. "I am, actually. Somebody in town with experience might be good. I need a sous chef, handling it solo is really tiring. I'm working hard to make this place a success. This means no off days, no vacations, nothing, until I can get fully on my feet." That's a respectable sentiment, and Oliver writes it down happily. "You know what, Penny? A little bit of friendly corruption is fine now and then.""H-huh?" "How about you get us a free order of cheese sticks, and I put a mention in the paper about how you might be looking for employees?" The others stare at him for a moment. It's a bit sketchy, but you're both Lobraise residents. It's no violation of journalistic integrity, just some neighbourly courtesy. You get the feeling he'd do it regardless just to help you out. With a grin, you get Macy to heat some up for them, then get back to answering Mandy's questions. =====In the evening, the three of them and their guests decide to take their leave for good. Once the dinner rush starts up, they'll barely be able to get questions in anyway. They have enough for articles, even if it's not the kind that they came for. "Hope you guys liked the food!" "I did. Wonderful." Maurice nods."Really good. I should come here again soon," says Oliver."Me too. Next time I'm in town, this is the first place I'll stop by... Unless there's a brand new spot to cover. Sorry!" Mandy teases. As you see them off, you notice that the fourth journalist you invited has just been led to a table. She doesn't greet the others as they walk out, and is already looking through the menu. They give her glances as they leave."Valentina?" "Hello, Penny." "Welcome back! You weren't at the opening?" "No. I'm not interested in these things. Just the food. I have a reservation for the Pecking Ducklett." "Oh, is the rest of your party on the way?" "No. I'll be having it myself." "... I see. I'll serve it for you."

>>5561924>Brady. Find out what he's been up to, been a while since you talked to him.You head over to Brady, who gives you a friendly wave as you approach. Its been about a month since you moved here, and you've only had the opportunity to properly sit down with him once. You've seen him around often, however, and he's a true regular now. You've even followed his advice and cut down on how much salt you use on the fries, which has received favourable feedback from a couple of customers. No exclusive Ducklett on his table, but he's enjoying his usual order today. You notice that he's here a bit late. Normally, he comes after the lunch rush. "Hey Brady!""Penny! Congratulations on the opening. What's it been? A month?" "Around there, yeah," you answer. Three weeks in Lobraise, and this is the start of the fourth. You're getting used to the town. He invites you to take a seat, where he immediately launches into the topic. "Heard something bad happened to you yesterday, are you doing alright?" You nod, shifting about uncomfortably. You're stressed and tired, and once the excitement of opening day fades, you'll want nothing more but to curl up in bed until the next morning. "I'm hanging on. Too much work to do to think about it much.""I see... Yeah. Lotta trouble going on in these woods lately, huh?" You look at his new pack, and remember how he looked a little worse for wear the other day. "What happened to you?" "Had a bad run-in too," he says, leaning in and lowering his volume. "You can keep a secret, right, Penny?" You nod. "Good. There's a strong Pokémon in the area. Too strong for me or you to handle, I reckon. Can't use my usual route for now.""I think I've heard of that, actually," you remark. "Really?" He asks, somewhat suspicious."It's a Rhydon, isn't it?"Brady leans forward and looks around conspiratorially, making sure nobody else is listening in. "It is," he confirms, "and a bunch of the local folk don't want word to get out. They want to take care of the problem locally. Well, they'd better do it soon, or I'm going to contact a ranger to come deal with it.""I definitely can't deal with it. Scyther's weak to Rock-type attacks, and it's probably really strong, right?" "It is. I don't know why its been coming down from the hills, but it's getting too bold. Would love to have me a strong Pokémon like that, but I doubt I could handle it."
>>5561940Yeah. You don't think you could either. You continue to chat about the wilderness. As opposed to your first conversation with him, you now have experience out in the woods of Lobraise, and a common topic. He talks to you about good spots to rest out in the woods, and the two camps for Hunters and Trainers to take a break. He seems impressed that you've done your research on the various Pokémon that live out there. "You checked out the trainyard yet? The Pokémon who live in it are different. Place is getting more and more defunct." You shake your head. Nope. That's something on the docket for the future, if you're feeling bold. He chats with you about the Rhydon for a bit more, talking about how it chased him and caused him to fall down a hill, but didn't manage to harm him directly. "And there's the Pidove too!" He complains. "I've seen them around. I hunted a couple, I heard they've started breeding again?" "Right here in the woods too. I went up to a spot I like looking out over. Nests all over the place! Rocks are painted white with their crap!" Ugh. Fucking shitbirds. "Tell me about it. They did the same to my truck." "Stewview made a big mistake, I tell ya, and now they're spreading it all around. But 'nuff about that. You still having any trouble settling in?" You remember how knowledgeable he was the very first time you spoke to him. It's far from the camp, so heading there means you'll be away from help. You're reluctant to go delving into the woodland completely isolated from other humans, after what happened last night. You don't feel completely safe anymore, and you won't until the thief is caught. Come to think of it, the thieves from earlier are still at large too. You'll need to call and make a police report at the end of the day.By following the tracks, you can make your way to the abandoned railway yard. It's fenced off, and it's technically trespassing, but he waves off the idea of anybody caring. It's a small town thing, nobody is going to ride your ass about breaking in. You're not a hundred percent sure you trust him, but shrug and ask him to continue. He tells you about the several old carriages that are still there, the empty tracks, the beginnings of a platform, and the shipping containers lying around."What about the Pokémon?" "It's the quite the ecosystem, last I checked! Like a fenced off garden. The Pokémon inside don't usually wander that far out into the woods, or always come back to the yard. You'll probably see them just by hanging near the vicinity. There's Joltik all over. Don't know where they're getting the power from, actually, the lines should have been shut off after the project fell through. Then there's Klink, they always hang around places like these. Maushold and Tandemaus love the place, but don't do well in the rest of the woods..."He talks about the things you can find down there. Unfortunately, he can't give you a complete rundown. He doesn't go there often, all of this is from rumours and passing knowledge. Joltik aren't native to the woods, so must have been attached to the clothing of people working on the railway. Nobody has reported Galvantula. As for Klink and Varoom, he doesn't have the foggiest clue. They just show up. Both are mostly inedible too. It takes a special hand to cook Revavroom tongues. Then there's the Timburr family, who were probably left behind by workers as well. That part is tragic. They're one specific family. Maushold probably made it here in the equipment and proliferated.
>>5562155The local Burmy make clothing out of materials they can find around the trainyard. And finally, the Pachirisu are the only unique ones who were actually native to the forest before. "Pachirisu used to always compete with Greedent, you see. But the big guys were so much stronger and tougher that the squirrels got bullied mercilessly. Even with their Electric-type attacks, they couldn't compete. When the railway was built, the population inside flourished. Nowadays, they very rarely migrate out into the forest. It's so uncommon that we don't even consider them native anymore. Sometimes, people go out to visit the yard just to feed them. So there's still foot traffic into it." By the end of it, you have a decent grasp of the amount of Pokémon you can find. You gratefully thank him. By then, the dinner rush is over the horizon, so you bid him goodbye as he's washing the spicy sauce off his hands. "Clauncher as fresh as always, Penny!" "Glad you liked it! Come again soon, and thank you for the information!" "No worries. Just in time for an evening hike. Hoping to see the stars tonight." The bell rings as he exits. Moments later, it rings again in quick succession. At first, you think he's back already, but Officer Robert stands in the doorway. He's sweaty and his hair is plastered to his face."Hey... Penny... Okay... We..." He rests his hands on his knees, holding a finger up to signal for you to wait. After you lead him to a seat and have him catch his breath, he looks around at the customers flooding in."Is now a good time? There's a lot of things I need to talk to you about. My shift is almost over, though, I'd like to get home... I'm on both cases." >Accept. You'll lose out on the opportunity to talk to anyone in the evening, whoever they may be. It's also very rough to talk to him amidst the huge wave of customers, and you'll be stretched thin. That won't look very good on your opening day. However, you're sure he'll appreciate the gesture greatly. >Tell him to come back later. Sorry, Robert. You can't afford to take time off today. He can come back after closing time to tell you about the thieves and get your report on yesterday's incident. It's his job anyway, if he has to work late, so be it. It's not like YOU'RE clocking off anytime soon either.

Alright, there are joltiks indeed in the railway, sadly no rotom

I've started putting together an info document, which I'll post at the start of each thread. It has Penny's description, team, relationships, the Tall Tale's status, and information you guys will have access to. To not flood the thread while votes are coming in, I'll just post this one image to show it. Rest will come tomorrow.
>>5562236Nice!

He can come back after closing time to tell you about the thieves and get your report on yesterday's incident. It's his job anyway, if he has to work late, so be it. It's not like YOU'RE clocking off anytime soon either.Sorry bud, it's our big day.>>5562166We gotta' catch one!>>5562236Ooo, cool!
Am >>5562166>>5562294Sadly, I'm not that into joltik for partner. I fail to see much use to that pokemon for Penny.Of the wild pokemons, Rockruff is the only one I could consider. And reiterating my point from >>5562033, growing in team size is something nice. But a partner is a lot of involvement in this quest. More than your usual pokequest, I'd say. My list of acceptable partners would be (by preferential order : )>Rotom (Versatility/Machine use)>Sobble (Water type, Perfect high-class waiter)>Abra (I love what Anon posted in 5515098 back in thread one)>Slowpoke (Mascot/Water type/Delicacy tails)>A dog pokemon, for security and hunt.A water type would be especially good as super effective on all our "super-effective typing" proficiency, and as we're kinda branching into flying, it's better than plant. So, let's not rush the partner choice
>>5562310A Timburr might be a solid choice as well. Advantage against the local rock types, and learns lots of rock moves to take out bird types that Scyther might struggle with. And the labor oriented mindset probably makes him useful as a waiter and for unloading supplies.
>>5562320Fair point. Although we will have a brid-type weakness and we might get people drawing parallel we don't want between our kitchen and construction workers acting as chief
>>5562166>We gotta' catch one!since they're tiny, i wonder if we could befriend a bunch of them and treat them as a single entity, kinda like wishiwashi lmao>no rotomswho knows, we might get surprised; after all his information is based on hearsay and the reports of other people personally, i wouldn't mind finding a beldum. its evolutions are pretty cool>>5562320the issue i see there is that they're a single family. they probably are a bundle deal>>5562323>bird-type weaknessthat hasn't been a problem against the literal dozens of birds we have slaughtered so far
>>5562156>Tell him to come back later. Sorry, Robert. You can't afford to take time off today. He can come back after closing time to tell you about the thieves and get your report on yesterday's incident. It's his job anyway, if he has to work late, so be it. It's not like YOU'RE clocking off anytime soon either.
>>5562326>that hasn't been a problem against the literal dozens of birds we have slaughtered so farIt's been noted though that we'd need to watch out for evolved forms. Being able to directly assault Honchcrow and Tailow would be nice.
>>5562337because our scyther is like level 16 from what i remember. imo its not a type disadvantage, but a level problem
>>5562326Are we just going to turn Penny into a Bug-type trainer?
>>5562343i mean, bugs haven't disappointed us so far and the last time we tried to befriend a canine or a fox it tried to murder us and mug us respectively
>>5562326>BeldumAs a fellow Metagross-enjoyer, I will temper your enthusiasm with a counter-point : Outside of the coolest-mon-of-third-generation, what good would beldum do to our restaurant?
>>5562345>they want a mon that eats metal>our kitchen is filled with metalIshygddt
>>5562345oh, i absolutely know he's a bad pick for a restaurant, buuuut he can be a waiter. beldum at the very least is small enough for us to strap a tray on top of it and have him deliver the meals. its bigger evolutions can do the same, although they get massive and at that point his main purpose would be to hunt pokemons and to use him as a vantage points to find good hunting spots, like a literal eye in the sky>>5562349>implying im choosing my picks through a logical process and not a cool factor
Maybe it might be unpopular to suggest, but why not get a Klink? It could be useful for any mechanical things we need or for generating electricity. And the fact that it can more or less levitate could prove its worth around the restaurant. Also I have a soft spot for the more robotic pokemon.
>>5562351>Team dash is at it again! Go, Metagross!>Proceed to destroy the counter, three tables, and Braddy
>>5562367i find it ugly. but i wouldn't make a fuzz if for whatever reason we manage to get one>>5562368>metagross enters flight mode and just literally rams through them
>>5562156>>Tell him to come back later. Sorry, Robert. You can't afford to take time off today. He can come back after closing time to tell you about the thieves and get your report on yesterday's incident. It's his job anyway, if he has to work late, so be it. It's also very rough to talk to him amidst the huge wave of customers, and you'll be stretched thin. That won't look very good on your opening day. However, you're sure he'll appreciate the gesture greatly.May as well get this done nowAnd heck yeah JoltikTime to become the local bug type Gym leader on the side Just need us a Heracoss Scyther to killJoltik to set up the trapHeracoss to RAM THOSE FUCKING BIRD RIGHT OUT OF THE TREES!Also 100% need those Abra shenanigans
>>5562481we could also try our luck with that spinarak and its big ass beady eyes
>>5562310Joltik can afford us a lot of utility by helping to trap Pokemon which Scyther flushes, like yhe Spinaraks did, plus imposing paralysis status effects. In addition, there are a lot of flying types around here, which electric types are good for dealing with, AND it would be useful for hunting our water-type favoured prey.
>>5562340hes actually level 18. hes leveled up once each hunt we have done so far. also desu. probbably on the verge of leveling to 19 exp wise because killed an overleveled greedent . not that that helps too much but its still higher level than we started
>>5562489>All of that can be done by Rotom, which also happen to be kitchen-friendly
>>5562569that implies we can actually get a rotom though; on the other hand, we have visual or second hand confirmation that the other pokemons exist where we are going
>>5562610Indeed. However, even though I'd love to grow the rooster, we're in no kind of emergency. And, once again, if we really want an hypnosis, teleport, cute waiter ( Abra, Raltz, Misdreavus, Hatenna according to one of my previous catch summary list but let's face it, it's Abra we really want) nothing forbids us to get information and take a day off/weekend trip to go specifically somewhere in the region to match our goal. And there is also the wandering pokemon thing. And we can also ask the Phantom Edgebar patrons about it as it's a ghost pokemon. In this quest, partners pokemon looks like a huge commitment and I'll be surprised if we can get a team of more than three before thread 6, so I'd want to optimize slots. But after all, I'm just an autist among anons, so if you guys are all Joltik enthusiast, I'll comply.
>>5562156>>Accept. You'll lose out on the opportunity to talk to anyone in the evening, whoever they may be. >>5562625>It's Abra we really want.I don't want Abra. And I'm not chomping at the bit for Rotom, that's a fairly special Pokemon and my hopes aren't that high up yet. Stop speaking for the thread. Those are your preferences. Joltik would be a cool pick.
>>5562837This. Abra is kind of boring, desu. I'd prefer Timburr or Joltik quite a bit.
>>5562625>we're in no kind of emergency. we almost got scyther stolen. this would be pretty much a wake up call for anyone to prepare themselves more, and since we're not allowed to get a gun other than the bolt gun we already have, getting any other pokemon sounds like a good idea>get an abra>one of the most skittish pokemon in the wild that teleports away at the first chance it getsi'd rather bank my luck on getting a rotom>And we can also ask the Phantom Edgebar patrons about it as it's a ghost pokemon.that's a good idea. hell, they might even know if there is a pokemon adoption agency or something along those lines as well>>5562901plus we can have the joltik on out heads 24/7, making it a cute, impromptu hat
>>5562918>cute, impromptu hatSold!A Slowpoke would be good at some point, too, fro branding.
>>5562164>>5562194>>5562218>>5562481>>5562627Locking in accept and writing after lunch! Loving all the discussions. At the moment, there are a bunch of partner options that are becoming available through the week. Some might be hidden in small details that have already been written, similarly to how you guys correctly deduced the Repel thing with those small clues.
>>5563075>similarly to how you guys correctly deduced the Repel thing
>Clues>There's Joltik all over. Don't know where they're getting the power from, actually, the lines should have been shut off after the project fell throughThe power source the joltik are drawing electricity from maybe? There can be an underground power station? That would make it an abandon building related to electricity, so a good guess for rotom-hunting?I might be grasping straws.
>>5563075Again Bugs are friends not foodHave pur restaurant double as a bug Gym
First data sheet! Next thread onwards, I'll update it with info that's been gained during the thread.
>>5563107Here's the menu. Sat down last night to solidify what's on it. There might be items I've listed in throwaway lines, but have missed. Those items that I've stated in updates are meant to be on the list, and if you find them or remember missing items, please let me know, but for now this will be the canon menu. It exists for verisimilitude, so I didn't want to do prices lol
>>5563089maybe there is a pokemon hibernating there or a big deposit of thunder stones? probably its related to why the railway project stopped
>>5563108A long one with relationships and articles you guys have read, as suggested by that anon last thread. This way, you guys can look through whenever the option to catch up on one shows up. There's stuff you can glean from it, but some may have expired in terms of immediate relevancy. With that done, I'll start writing.
>>5563107kinda wanna draw penny and syther now that we have some descriptors maybe not this week though
>>5563107>>5563108>>5563112Awesome work Chef
>>5563121Thank you! >>5563118Hell yeah, that would be great, thank you. >Accept. You'll lose out on the opportunity to talk to anyone in the evening, whoever they may be. It's also very rough to talk to him amidst the huge wave of customers, and you'll be stretched thin. That won't look very good on your opening day. However, you're sure he'll appreciate the gesture greatly. "Yeah. Let me get you something. Coffee? No, you look like you could use something cold." "That... That would... Good... Okay..." You head to the fridge and look through the sodas, finding your target: an isotonic sports drink. Great for someone who's out of breath, and it replenishes electrolytes. You pour it into a glass and sit down with Robert, ordering Liam to help cover you in the kitchen. He can do basic sides without supervision. It'll be inevitable that you conversation gets interrupted, but your attention has to be on the officer for now, even if it doesn't look that good in front of customers. After he gulps down half his drink, you return from the kitchen with your hands covered in crumbs, and with a spot of oil on your apron. You settle down with him. Some of the dinner guests stare curiously at the two of you. There are plenty of whispers about what's going on, since a policeman is right here in your restaurant during rush hour. You see Darrell stare in concern, but you give him a friendly wave, and he heads on to his seat with his family and friends. "You okay, Robert?" "I am. I'm fine now. I wanted to talk to you about two things: yesterday's case, and this afternoon's. What do you want to hear first?" "Yesterday's, please." "Right. We followed your lead. Harry, you said? Red haired man?" You nod. "We went to pay him a visit late last night. He skipped town, we didn't manage to get to him in time. He seemed like he was in a real hurry, though, left a few things in his hotel room." "Few things?" "Repels, not all of them closed up. Handheld device to reseal the cans. And there was a lingering smell that Boltund picked up on. Seems like we found our guy, so good eye, Penny." So you were right after all! That must have been it. After seeing you in the bar, he marked you as a potential target. He even visited during the week, probably to case you out and get a look at Scyther in the kitchen. If you had used the repel a week earlier, you might have been attacked right then too. "Any sign of his Pokémon?" "Bits of fur from Thievul. I'd say we can conclude it's his. The snatchings that have taken place were by Nickit too, so now we have our suspect. Your statement made a big difference, we got to make a case file immediately." Good. Now they can chase him down. Hopefully they catch him soon. "Are you giving chase?" "Not me. We're reporting it to other cities. He's wanted for questioning now, so it won't be so easy for him to operate anymore. We'll put posters out."
>>5563204You escaped with only mild scrapes, Scyther is still with you, and the thief is wanted now. That's the second best outcome. Best would be if they grabbed him instantly, but alas. "That's good to hear, hope the contest guy can get his Pokémon back. There's no way he could have pawned them off in town, right?" You ask."Nowhere to get rid of stolen balls. He'd be on his way to another city."You think for a moment, tapping your fingers on the table. "He said he came from Stewview and was headed to Roastville. But I don't know if he was telling the truth. Probably not, right?" "Not if he's a professional crook. I'll let Roastville know, though. Lot of helpful info coming from you! Is there anything you want to know about the Harry guy?" "Nah, not for now. What about those guys from this afternoon? Did you manage to catch them?" "I did, actually. Here." He says, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a crumpled envelope. It's pretty unprofessional. Who keeps an envelope in their pocket? "What's this?" "Their bill. We beat them in a Pokémon battle, then dragged one down to the station, where he's waiting to be bailed out. Small misdemeanour." You flip through the envelope, and your eyes light up as you look at the P within. This should cover it. Inviting the police worked out for the best after all. Cheaper than security guards too! "Thanks, Robert. Wow. Were you and your partner okay?" "Rhonda? Yeah, she was fine. Hell of a lot faster than me too. Those crooks have been active all over Wokhei. You heard of Team Dash?" "I have. They're part of it, I assume. Stupid teens." Liam whistles as he walks past with a tray of soup, pretending not to hear that."Most of their buddies got away," he says regretfully. "But we're on it, they'll have to come by to get him before leaving town." The rest of the evening is spent on details for the police report. He confirms things like the time, witnesses, costs, and the fact that people had hot soup poured into their laps during the incident. Two police reports in two days makes for a tiring amount of paperwork, especially with the forms you've had to sign endlessly for the opening event. Your talk is constantly interrupted by having to attend to customers. As you're slicing up his Ducklett, Darrell expresses his condolences for the events, and tells you that the local fellas have you covered. You smile, then head over to serve a surly looking young man, who leaves a big mess behind, and end it off by serving one of the ladies who was with Harry the other night. When you drop a mention of him, she shrugs and says that they never kept in contact. By the time you get back to Robert and finish up, it's almost closing time.
>>5563206"Last orders! Any last orders? Kitchen is closing up soon!" A couple of people place final ones, and Robert gets up to leave, the paperwork tucked in a clipboard under his arm. You try not to think of the dried sweat patches on his uniform rubbing all over the papers. Bleh. "Thanks for today, Penny." "Nah, thank you, Robert, you really helped me a ton." You raise your voice to address the rest of the customers, most of whom are finishing up dessert and polishing off their meals. Macy has her phone out to record you, and you'll be putting the video on The Tall Tale's page."Hey, everyone! I'd just like to say..." This morning, you went for a sentimental opening speech. You’ll want to end the evening with one that’s equally sincere and from the heart. You just let it flow. This time, it’s improv, with just the last few customers here to hear it.“Thanks for coming down today. It’s been a good opening, and I hope you’ve all enjoyed the food. I’m new here in Lobraise, but I’m really loving how friendly and close everyone is. Feels like home already. We’ll do our best to keep serving great food, going forward!” There’s scattered applause and smiles all across the dining room. Robert gives you a thumbs up as he leaves, then tips his hat to you. “Hope I see you around. And that no more trouble finds you. Bye, Penny!” >Bond with Officer Robert increased =====“Wow. That was a long day.” “I can barely feel my legs…”“Scyther, scy!”The four of you collapse into chairs once the last customer leaves. There’s still washing up and cleaning to do, and you’re paying them overtime for it. Macy is busy tomorrow, and Liam is working the afternoon shift. Right now, you take a break and grab some ice cream for everyone. Macy bites right into a cheap lolly, and Liam slowly licks a popsicle. You’ve gotten a tub of salted caramel for yourself, and Scyther isn’t fond of ice cream. He’s ripping into a Skwovet instead. “We sold all of it, and it’s just Monday.” You remark as you see the squirrel scrap.“Big bonus from opening day, I guess. Boss, did they catch the thieves?” Liam asks. “Yeah, one is in jail right now. Serves them right.” “You got the money back?” Macy inquires, as she chews on the wooden stick. “I did. Robert got them to pay up.” “Everything’s good then. I think today went well… Wow, I can’t wait to go home and sleep.” She continues.“Me neither. Liam, you need a lift today?”“No, I’ll be fine. Working in the afternoon, so I can afford to walk.” “Are you sure?” “Yeah. You’re tired too, Penny.” You nod. You and your little team sit there eating ice cream for a little while more. Eventually, you get up with a sigh and clap your hands. “Let’s close up shop.”=====
>>5563208Phew. You collapse onto your sofa, uncaring of the fact that you’re getting dirt and grime all over it. You’re exhausted, and so is Scyther. His mood has improved a little, but the stress has caught up to him, prompting your partner to clean his own blades obsessively. It's a habit he has when he's irked. You’ve sent the both of your employees on their way, and you want to go right to bed. However, there’s just a little more you can do today, before you get too exhausted to function in the morning. You can’t even leave your house at the moment, you’d be asleep before getting out of the door. >Light reading. Articles, research, pick something to learn before bed. Not tiring at all, you’ll just relax and do a bit of research. If you had read a bit more about Team Dash, you would’ve been suspicious enough to keep an eye on the group, like how you identified the Nickit as a thief fast. >Help wanted ad. This is potentially redundant, as Oliver said he’s helping you make a mention in the newspaper. However, relying completely on a brief mention in it might not be the best way to get help. You may not get the right folks, putting out your own ad is for the best. >Errands and chores. You’re behind on them, and your workaholic nature has meant that you’ve been putting in so much effort downstairs that your living space is neglected. Your dirty laundry is piling up, as you haven’t had the time to bring things to the laundromat, and you don’t have a huge washer or drying rack. Your bedsheets are unchanged. No point dirtying another set, so you start cleaning while wearing clothes that were already on their way to the wash. You make yourself some cup ramen, then organize the pantry while the noodles cook. You pull out empty cereal boxes and wash jugs of milk, before dumping them in a corner reserved for recyclable goods. You grab one of the many plastic bags in your plastic bag bag and replace the miniature bins lying around your home. The bags are tossed by the stairs, and you'll take them out later. "I wish you could carry things, Scyther. This would be a lot easier..." "Scy?""Nevermind." Vacuuming and mopping comes next. Then writing down a list for the next time you go shopping. You'll probably want to find some free time this weekend to do errands. You're low on supplies for your own kitchen, and you don't want to siphon from work resources. Scyther's dry food is running out, and you've been thinking of switching to a different formula. In the meantime, you'll just make some home-cooked meals for him in the upcoming days. You pick up scattered clothes and organize them into different laundry bags, then set them behind the couch. Your apron should be going downstairs, and as you look at the white and blue fabric, you realize you should get an upgrade. Something with hints of pink, perhaps, to fit the Slowpoke theme.Once that's done, you eat your noodles. They've absorbed too much soup now, and are kinda gross, but you suck it up. No time for anything better. You care more about sleep than food right now. Before that, though, you need to take stock of today's sales. You counted when you emptied the till. Opening day has been a smashing success, and you're sure it'll elevate your restaurant's popularity to new heights. You started the day by giving the customers a heartfelt speech, letting them know you truly wanted to be part of the local community. Stick by that and you'll eventually become a Lobraise institution that everybody knows. People have the impression that your food is accessible to everyone, and priced well, but that deluxe items and exclusive offers show up at time, and those are truly deserving of the premium cost.
>>5564134Next up, you got some important information on the surrounding area, which will help you out in hunting. You stare at the balls on the table, still in their packaging. You're ready for a new Pokémon, you think. You've got enough profit to pay for expenses, but it'll be disastrous if it's a partner that doesn't help pay for itself in some way. This weekend would be a good time to pursue it, though you could look into potential picks during the rest of the week. Then you addressed the media and gained some sympathy after getting robbed. You'll be having word of your restaurant published any time now, you suppose. You refresh Mandy's site while you write posts on your own page's feed, but don't see anything just yet. Maybe she works even later than you. You can't afford to camp out for her article, you're tired as hell, so you let go of the idea for now. Finally, you take a look at your ingredients. The Pecking Ducklett is sold out. A couple of people missed their reservations or didn't show up in the afternoon, so you opened sales up to people in the evening. It received highly positive results. As usual, you ran out of Ducklett quinoa too. It's quite a popular one. The rest of your supplies are running low too, but tomorrow's shipment should deal with it. You take a long shower, then sit down to dry your hair. A rumble outside catches your attention. You look out the window, but can't make out anything in the darkness. Sounds like it's going to rain. The dry spell is finally over, it seems. You hope it's not storming all the way in Simmersand, that might mess up the catches and you'll be a little short on supplies. You hate using fish that's been frozen for too long. It's hard to eat completely fresh when far from the coast, but having it be flash-frozen on board the boat and brought here as soon as possible is good enough for your tastes. Anything other than that would taste worse. Valentina would probably agree.
>>5564137As you're staring out of the window, you feel a vague sense of foreboding. It feels like you're not alone in the house, once again. This time, however, you can chalk it up to ghosts. Somehow, knowing that they're real makes it a bit less intimidating. Because that means they can be dealt with by Fenton. Right as you think this, though, your phone rings, causing you to yelp in fright and flinch from the sudden noise. You quickly head over to it and pick up without looking at the caller ID."Hello?" "Good evening, Penny." "Masao sensei!" "It's been a while, how are you faring?" He asks. You hear waves on the other end. "Good! I'm doing great. Opening day was today!" "I know. How'd you like the flowers?" "I loved them. I'm sorry I didn't call sooner, it's been so busy, and it slipped my mind." "Don't worry. I called to check up on you. Was it a smooth opening?" "It was. Uh... Some issues. We had a dasher." You remark, rolling your eyes at the thought of those crooks showing up again."Those hooligans from the news, I assume?" "Yeah." "Mhm. I read that you were attacked yesterday. Are you hurt? Is Scyther okay?" He asks. He has a hard exterior, but you can tell he's concerned."We're both fine, yeah... Just rattled is all. Hey, are you at sea, sensei?""At the coast. I'm heading out for midnight fishing. Listen, if you need something big, just ask, okay? Me and the team are always here for you." "I thought you wanted me to make it on my own? Said all that stuff about not clinging to your apron, yadda yadda?" "That... I just didn't want you to be too reliant. You'd never have started otherwise. But if you ever run into REAL trouble, you can call me." He bashfully replies. You grin. He does care. He's been good to you, despite how strict he can be sometimes. He used to be an entertainer, after all, and he has that personality buried beneath the surface. "Gotcha. Thanks, sensei." "I need to go. Ah, Pansear misses you. Do you want to say anything to him?""Just tell him I miss him too. I gotta go, it's nearly bedtime." "Good idea. I shouldn't keep you. Goodnight, Penny." "Night!" He hangs up. He was the one who imposed the bedtime on you, insisting that resting for those exact hours made for a good chef. It's one of his weird little quirks, but you've gotten into the habit. You plug your phone into the charger, then dive into bed. It's been a good day.=====
>>5564138You wake up on the fourth ring, finding yourself almost too exhausted to get out of bed. You can't just close out of the blue, however, so you force yourself up. Your joints are sore and your eyes are bleary. You drag yourself to the bathroom to wash your face and brush your teeth, before heading to the pantry and pulling out some pasta from the fridge. Macy served someone the wrong order yesterday, and had to take it back, so you've taken it for yourself. While waiting for it to heat up, you thumb through your phone. You were eager to look at what the various media outlets thought of your place, but you've wasted too much time in getting up. Setting your alarm a little bit earlier was unrealistic, knowing how lethargic you are in the morning. >>5565282>New girl in town starts up seafood restaurant: What to expect at The Tall TaleYou open up Lobraise Today and look through the article that Oliver has written. It begins with excerpts from your speech last morning, where you made your intentions known to the people of Lobraise. There are photos of you and Scyther, and a good shot of the restaurant from the outside, showing the décor and seating arrangements through the glass storefront. You head through the introductory paragraphs and find yourself reading an article that speaks very kindly of you and your place.=====Upon entering the Tall Tale, I was hit with a comfortable, pleasant atmosphere. The bright walls and ocean themed furniture makes you think of sunny afternoons on the beach, sipping drinks and barbecuing Corphish. And yet, the place had a certain classiness to it that made it seem like it would hold a fancy dinner party just as well. After dark, the mood seems to change to a more sombre one. We were invited by miss Penny Pudding to partake in the Pecking Ducklett, a dish from a far off region. As a Water-type expert, Ducklett in particular is the specialty dish of our vivacious new resident. "Why Ducklett? Well, my master is an expert in cooking fish Pokémon. I felt that if I just copied him, I'd never grow. It's going to take years to reach the same heights. So I thought... Why not refine a skill of my own and pick up a different signature?" Explained Penny. The Pecking Ducklett was clearly a dish meant to be shared in good company. Its ingredients were simple, and the concept was not a mind-blowing one, but its execution was wonderfully delectable. Thin slices of marinated Ducklett, still moist and exuding the type energy its known for, were paired with slices of vegetables and sweet sauce. Penny herself came over to carve up the Ducklett and fold them into tiny pancakes. "You have to eat it fast. Ducklett, when left for too long, makes the surrounding food soggy. One bite." My dining companions and I took the meal one bite at a time, and found ourselves mesmerized by the array of flavours and textures. The crispness of the skin battled the sweetness from the layer of melting fat beneath it.
>>5565330Penny was eager to answer our questions throughout the busy day. As we sat down, we found our conversation constantly cut short. As the sole chef in The Tall Tale, Penny handles all the day to day operations."What do you do when your part-timers don't make it?" "I just do everything myself. Scyther and I. We managed it for the first week, but now it's getting too hectic to..." She expressed her desire for help, commenting on how finding an experienced chef in town that she could trust would greatly decrease her workload. As it stands, she quite literally has no time to take an off day. "I need a sous chef," she finished. The Tall Tale is a place that's suitable for all- provided you like seafood. The ingredients are driven from Simmersand and Stewview every morning, and transport costs are a big reason why the price is higher than many other joints in town that also sell fish. However, The Tall Tale is the first restaurant in Lobraise to specifically serve seafood, and it shows in the quality. There are also meals made from locally caught Pokémon, and Penny heads out hunting on her own in her free time to secure these fresh ingredients. On Sunday night, in fact, Penny Pudding was attacked while out on a hunt, by a would-be Pokémon thief. Fortunately, she fended it off and escaped with only mild injuries. She declined to comment further for the time being.Click here to find out more on the story. This article is not sponsored and reflects solely the views of the journalist. All food consumed at The Tall Tale was not paid for and was provided as part of a media tasting.=====
>>5565333Good. It's a good review! You knew that they wouldn't trash you. The Daily Dex and Lobraise Today are here to report on the opening. They're not specifically food writers. Mandy Buzz, as a personal blogger, might be a bit stricter in reviewing food, but no way she's as scary as Valentina. You finish up your pasta and head downstairs to open up. You unlock the door separating your restaurant from upstairs, roll up the shutters, then head outside to wait for the deliveries to the back room. Ducklett supplies are running low. You don't think you can serve them until dinner, so you send a quick message on your Glacebook page to apologize for the lack of it. Your supplier has also let you know that order amounts for Lobraise have increased recently, so they'll be able to get less of it to you. Someone is trying to fight with you for stock. It's a good thing you prepped for opening event so soon. As you head outside to arrange the bouquets and pick up a toppled one, you feel a light drizzle. Seems like the morning rain is starting already. You take your place in the front, setting tables and watching as the showers start. The grey, gloomy atmosphere ends the moment the door opens and the bell jingles. The inside of the Tall Tale is well lit, with warm lighting and comfortable seats. It's a refuge from the rain, and the ocean theme makes one think of a coastal settlement, even though there's no water to be found. You can imagine sitting in a fish and chips place just like this one, overlooking stony crags on the North side of the Simmersand sea, eating in silence with Masao while the rain pours down. It's an atmosphere you aimed to capture with your restaurant, and you think you've done it pretty well. Customers file in early. Some who haven't seen the Glacebook post order the quinoa early, and you apologetically tell them that it's sold out. Others ask about the lack of staff, and you tell them that there'll only be another waiter on the afternoon shift."You do all this yourself?!" One man asks incredulously. You smile, nod, and take his order, continuing on with your day as usual. The place isn't as empty as it was last week, when the grillhouse launched their attacks. The opening day buff has worked. You take a look at your customers, seeing if there's anybody that catches your interest.>The old man with a hat and cane, who's spending an extremely long time reading the menu. >>5565608>The old man with a hat and cane, who's spending an extremely long time reading the menu. He has glasses and a bald head, with a thin mustache and long beard that droops down halfway to his collarbone. You head over to the old guy, who Macy has just seen to his seat. He spends a little longer looking at the menu, before turning to you. "Good morning. Would you happen to be the owner?""I am! I'm Penny Pudding. Welcome to The Tall Tale. Do you need any help?" "I would like that, yes." He sets the menu down and points to The Hunt's Spoils. It says that you can order it on Monday and Tuesday, but you're all out. "What meat would this be, young lady?" "I'm sorry. We're all out. But it was Skwovet and Greedent." "From the surrounding woodland? I'm aware there are many of them in the area, were they hard to catch?" "They were easy to spot, but hard to actually take down." "I see, I see. I'll have the seafood carbonara instead. What Pokémon are in it?" You spend a few moments talking to him, then head off to cook his order up. In that time, a couple more people come in, causing the bell to ring each time. The rain causes them to trail water in, and you don't have time to mop. You wince as the smooth floor is dirtied with grey footprints and puddles of water. You didn't get a welcome mat. That's a must-have when you go shopping next. There's also no umbrella rack, so they have to bring their sopping umbrellas all the way to their tables. To distract yourself from the growing mess, you head over to the customers to check on them, restraining your annoyance at those who've trailed footprints all over the place. You stop at the old man, who made it a point to shake his umbrella dry right outside earlier. His hat is on the other chair, and he even brought an umbrella bag to put the wet tool in. "How's the food, sir?" "Sir? Oh, that makes me feel my age..." "Sorry. What should I call you instead?" "Professor Ironwood will do.""Professor?""Indeed. I study Pokémon in the Wokhei region."You ask for permission to settle down opposite him. He stands to take his own hat, but you quickly take it and hand it to him, so he doesn't have to be inconvenienced. "What's your speciality, professor?""I focus on the type energy found within Pokémon, and the ways they manifest. At the moment, however, I'm on my way to Simmersand. I've been asked to look into a shift in the ecosystem." >Simmersand climate change research"Oh, do you mean what's going on with the Octillery?" "Well read, I see! Is that because you're a chef, Penny? Or are you interested in the environment itself?" "Bit of both. I wanted to read about the Octillery for my restaurant. But all the best ingredients are from Simmersand, it's my business to know about the environmental conditions.""Very nice! How much do you know about my main speciality?"
>>5565667Type energy. That's his field of study. You assume it's a rhetorical question, because every chef worth their salt knows about type energy. Maybe a self-taught bumpkin might not know, and maybe you're a bit less familiar than someone who went to culinary school, but you're aware enough of its importance. Almost every Pokémon type has energy associated with it. Fire types like Fuecoco absorb heat using their scales and create Fire-type energy, which they store within their flame sacs for use. The rate of absorption and production is typically far more than the source provides in the first place. Pokémon are unique in that they can absorb this with far more efficiency than human-made mechanisms. Some manifest in stranger ways than others. Bug-type Pokémon, for example, don't have any kind of 'bug-blast' like Fire and Water-type Pokémon might have for their own types. However, the energy is still present in certain moves, which react with the types that other Pokémon have. What's important to you isn't the science side, though. It's how the energy influences the taste and texture of food. Ducklett is the best example of it. Water-type energy makes food retain moisture, and has an affinity with liquid. Some types are thought to have medicinal properties. Eating Psychic Pokémon supposedly sharpens the mind and senses, due to the high amounts of energy present within it. Some Pokémon are avoided for this reason as well. Nobody wants to eat Poison-type Pokémon, unless it's properly treated, diluted, and cleaned. "A good amount. It's relevant to my cooking. The Ducklett quinoa applies the principles I learnt about type energy. Any insights you'd like to share?"He twirls his pasta and takes a bite, chewing slowly and looking right at you. His eyes are milky grey, radiating wisdom from their depths. Professor Ironwood wipes his mouth with a napkin and continues. "Perhaps you might want to look into..."The man thinks on the topic he's about to spend a few moments teaching you about. >Dual-types. He suggests pairing Pokémon that have types weak to each other. She mostly has access to Flying, Bug, Water, and Rock, and water/rock and flying/bug are the main supereffective pairs there. Or like, Steel/Fighting with a Rock/Ground type pokemon. Water/Rock already benefits from her Water type training, and Flying/Bug includes, well, bugs, which are unpopular. Meanwhile the Water type bonus applies to everything she does, including if she were to go for the Water/Rock pair. The Dual type bonus just seems very specific and hard to get. I'd rather get the Water bonus but I'd be the only voter going for it
>>5565896oh, and yes, Flying is one of the best options for Penny's second type, since Scyther is a flyer, flyers are readily available around here, and Flying is good against some of her weaknesses. It also slots in well with the Mountain/Sea thing I mentioned before, since so many poultry/bird types are common in the area, so if we get to choose then Flying would be good and fittingThe only thing is it means she's quite vulnerable to Electric type troubles, so Joltik or Rotom would probably be frustrating for her to train and she's going to become a Luddite who works with a charcoal grill and a gas range and refuses to work with the devil machinery induction pad

Never as much as your main type, but perhaps it'll bring you closer to one of the types you know how to cook, like Rock, Fire and Ground. Or even something you struggle with, like Grass or Electric."Your speciality is Ducklett. How experienced are you in cooking Flying-types?" "Quite. It's a common type in restaurants, everybody has to know how to break one down and cook birds." "Ah, but are you aware of how to make the best use of the actual Flying-type energy?" You shake your head. No, that's not something you're familiar with. You only focus on the water part, and with a touch of shame, you realize you've been neglecting a critical, inherent part of the dish that you've specialized in. Professor Ironwood gives you a quick rundown. Flying-type energy tends to make food light and airy. It's overpowered by the Ducklett's flavour, in this case, since it turns juicy and fat. "Did you know that the majority of Flying-types only have it as a secondary type? The flavour is almost always changed by the other type. Have you ever had Rookidee?" You haven't, no. They're not native to this part of Wokhei. "I recommend you try it, Penny. They're the very essence of Flying-types. The flavour is unlike any other bird. I wouldn't say it's better, objectively. Just pure. Distilled" He continues to tell you about the medicinal properties of the energy. It's used as a stress reliever, and promotes calmness. Before exams, bottled essence of Flying-type Pokémon is often given to students to help them focus. It's not as popular as supplements originating from Psychic-types, but it works well for both flavour and relaxation. "Flying and Water interact just fine. You'll want to try and draw out equal amounts of both in your cooking. Unlike types that conflict, there's not much you can do to negate the negative sides of it, so you'll want to instead bring out the positive points of your Ducklett." "How do I do that?" "I'm no professional chef. I would never think to tell you how to do your job. However, perhaps you should focus on how to serve them as a bird? Forget the seafood angle for now, then reapply it later on. I suspect seeing it through a Water-type's lens is clouding your judgement. It's primarily a Water-type, that much is true. But morphologically, it's far closer to most Flying-type Pokémon in the way its body is shaped.">Flying type expertise increased! [2/8]
>>5566388You'll have to practice cooking these types a lot more, and refine your recipes before you can see a big improvement in your signature dish. However, thanks to him, you know where to start. Ironwood delays his departure for a while, until the rain lets up a little, then opens his umbrella up and heads out onto the street. The other notable customers head outside as well, and you wait for Liam to arrive. Whenever the restaurant is quiet, you start to feel watched. Each bang and crash from Scyther causes you to flinch a little, and you find yourself being a bit jumpy. Damn spirits. At least it's not as powerful a presence as the Murkrow. You can probably deal with this for quite a while, and it's nowhere as urgent. Liam shows up soaked to the bone. He has no umbrella, and is panting when he walks in despite the rain."Liam! You okay?" "I'm... Yeah. Not late, am I?" "No, but you're trailing water everywhere. You okay? Did something happen?" "I... lost my umbrella. Had to run here in the rain. I'm sorry. I'll get right to-" "No, hey, you can't work like this." He seems like he's hiding something. If he came from home, he should have had an umbrella. That's not the biggest problem, though. He's going to catch a cold if he stands around like this, and people are staring. Lunch is about to start. You decide that you've known him for long enough to trust him, so you hold out your keys. "Here.""What's this?" He asks, shivering and squeezing his shirt dry. "Keys to my house. Do you have a change of clothes?" "... No." "Alright... I'll go get you some. Dry yourself off before starting, okay?" He nods in embarrassment. You hastily turn the sign to 'CLOSED' and set a chair in front of the door, in order to signal to customers that they're not allowed to enter. You whistle to Scyther, and he pops his head out of the kitchen."Psst! Watch the customers!" Scyther stays at the edge of the kitchen, observing the few people finishing up their meals and staring curiously at the sopping wet teen who's dripping water everywhere. He flinches as he leaves his footprints on your stairs, and you follow him up into your house. Good thing you cleaned up last night, you'd have been embarrassed to have company otherwise. You grab Liam some spare clothes and pass them to him, along with a fluffy towel and a pair of sandals. "Just dump your stuff in the laundry basket. Too wet to deal with during the work day. Liam, next time, there's no need to run through the rain like this. Just tell me you're going to be late, okay?"
>>5566389He stares at his feet and gives a slow, almost imperceivable nod. You head back downstairs and re-open, leaving him to clean himself up in your bathroom. You can't help but feel a little disturbed by this, however. You know he's a workaholic grinding his ass off, kinda like you, but you don't come off as the sort of fire him just for being late, do you? Maybe you were overbearing, or scared him with something. Or maybe it's something else. There's no time to think on it further. There are customers queuing up outside. You get to work.=====The lunch rush is busier than ever before. It doesn't help that Liam takes quite a while to come down, but he returns to his usual self soon enough. He whips up food without issue and helps serve customers when you're occupied. You definitely notice a change in the atmosphere. There's more people, larger parties, and bigger orders. People ask about the Pecking Ducklett often, and you have to gently let them down. Maybe bringing it back in the future would be a good idea, but you shouldn't just make it part of the menu. It's not special otherwise. That's like serving deluxe Milktank every day.You get your usual block of afternoon free time. Even with the uptick in customers, you're still able to pursue something you're interested in within the restaurant. You don't see a lot of regulars today. At least, none of the ones you've already spoken to at length. Brady comes on alternate days, Darrell's household just ate a huge meal last night, and Valentina probably won't be showing up anymore... Unless she really likes the food. Pretty much unanimous, locking the vote
>>5567476>Ask Liam what's up. Him running to work in the rain is strange, you want him to talk a bit more about it."Liam, you got a second?" You decide to ask him when it's quiet, and get his attention while he's serving one of the few customers in the gulf between the lunch and dinner period. He slides a bunch of Krabby cakes onto a plate, garnishing it with a dollop of sauce and a side of lettuce. After setting it down in front of a customer, he wipes his hands on his apron and heads over to you, looking a little nervous."Boss?" "I wanted to talk to you about something. Sit down?" He grabs a seat. You see him flinch as he settles in the chair, and his body language becomes withdrawn. His hands are held close to his stomach, and he's leaning forward with his head hanging over the table. 'We need to talk' is one of the most intimidating phrases out there, and you assume he's worried about what happened earlier. You take a different track, rather than asking straight out."... Do you find me scary?" "Huh?" "Are there things I do that intimidate you, or make you uncomfortable?" You ask.The very idea causes him to come out of his shell a little bit."Not at all! You've been nice. Really caring. I like working here," he replies. "Then... did you think I would fire you or something, if you came late? Is that why you rushed here?" "No. I just wasn't really thinking straight. Now that I think about it, yeah, you wouldn't have fired me. I just-" He squeezes the apron, bundling the fabric up tight. "I just wasn't thinking, that's all. Ended up without my umbrella, then I just wanted to get straight here, even if I had to run through the rain for a while." Lost his umbrella. That seems weird. It was pouring, but not windy. You don't think the wind would have just snatched his umbrella right out of his hands. Something strange is up here. This is something to press further for sure. You don't want to grill him too bad. However, he's told you that his parents are out of town, he lives alone, and works several jobs. You might only be a couple years older than him, but you're the closest thing to an adult figure in his life right now. You feel the need to step in and work out what's going on.
>>5567534"How'd you lose it?""It, uh..." He's floundering. Like you do when you've fucked something up and need to think of a quick lie to throw Masao's way."I was by this canal, and it slipped out of my grip. Fell all the way in." Right. He's not telling you the truth. You're not sure how much you can push it without making him actually uncomfortable. "Can I be honest?" "Uh, sure. Yeah.""I think you're bullshitting me." He freezes up. "But I'm not gonna force you into anything. If you have a problem even outside of work, let me know, okay? I want to take good care of my employees. I told you that before. So you don't need to lie to me or anything." He hangs his head in shame, staring down at the table and lacing his fingers together. He mumbles almost too soft for you to catch, and if it weren't for how quiet the restaurant is, it'd be lost to the sound of the crowd. "... Okay." You sit there for a little while longer, waiting to hear if he continues. He does, just as quiet as before. It seems to take him a great deal of courage to even blurt it out. "Someone took it from me. Tossed it into the drain. I just wanted to get out of there and back here, as soon as possible. I didn't want to go home. This place felt more... I dunno." Took it from him? If he had gotten mugged or something, he wouldn't have been so coy about it, presumably. Somebody he knows? If he's a student, there's not many possibilities. Either some bad company, like gangsters, or bullies from school. "Someone? Do you want to talk about it? I could-" The bell rings. You stare at the random couple who's just walked in. Liam stands up, a forced smile on his face as he turns towards them. "Hi, table for two?" That's a no, then. He's looking to escape the conversation. As he walks towards them, you stand and put a hand on his shoulder, stopping him right in his tracks. He gulps. "Anytime. Anytime at all, you can come tell me more. Alright?" He nods. You release him and watch as he sees them to their seat.>Bond with Clerk Liam increased!
>>5567535=====Tomorrow is Macy's shift. You'll probably want to talk to her about this too. It's something strange going on with a colleague, so she ought to know, for when they work together on Wednesday. You head to the back with Scyther and start fileting the Basculin that had been defrosting in a basin. "Hey, bud." "Scyther!" "Is Liam doing better back here? Not giving him a hard time?" "Scy!" He shakes his head. You've noticed that he's a bit less wary around your Pokémon now, so it's good that there's one less thing for him to worry about while on the job. You try and work out what you can do to help him out without grilling him for info. When he's ready, and feels like he can trust you more, he'll hopefully let you know directly, but there's things you can look into for now. Like whether there's unsavoury folk lurking in town. Maybe you could talk to students too. That is, if you even know anyone who might be from the local school, or a recent graduate. You wrack your brain for a while, struggling to think up anything. Dinnertime comes and goes. The rain is intermittent, but fortunately ends at night. You stare at the sad state of your floor. It's covered in water and footprints. With a sigh, you grab a mop and get ready to clean it, while Liam tidies things up in the kitchen and prepares for closing. Once everything is done, you turn to ask him if he'd like a ride. However, he's already halfway out the door. Seems like he wants to escape any questioning while in the car. You sigh and let him head out, then go upstairs to wash your face. He's taken care to not make a mess in your house. The soaked clothes are still sitting in the laundry basket, but apart from that, you don't notice much of a change in the bathroom. How considerate. You and Scyther sit on the sofa for a bit, before you stand up and decide on what you'll be spending the evening doing.>Errands again. Grocery shopping, the laundromat, and supply buying. Scyther time. Off to the park. Closing votes.
>>5568493“Come on, Scyther.” “Scy?” “We’re going out for a walk.” “Scyther!” “Just us. I’ve packed snacks.” You grab the tiny satchel that the treats are in, then head out the back door with your Pokémon hot on your trail. He flutters about once he’s outside, darting back and forth across the mostly empty street. He clearly has a lot of nervous energy to burn off. You do too, and taking a long walk at night should help. You’re getting used to the layout of town, and don’t get lost as often anymore. The two of you have figured out the fastest way to get to the park. You head through the gate, glancing at the signboard once again. No Pokémon above 300 kilograms. Scyther is far below that, so no need to even worry. You wonder if Fenton is here again. It’s not as late as the last time you saw him, but the sun is already down. Scyther immediately zeroes in on some wild Pokémon in the trees. “You can fight them, but we’re not hunting, okay? Don’t kill them.” “Scyther!” He climbs up the tree in excitement, challenging a Taillow for dominance over its nest. While he does that, you sit down and relax for a bit, examining the park. The street lamps keep the walkways and rest areas fully illuminated, and the tree variety makes the greenery look pleasant. There aren’t any berry trees, but the plants give off a pleasant smell. For a small town, it’s a well maintained park. You aren’t super familiar with the town council or mayor, but they must take good care of this place. There’s also a decent amount of wildlife. None of it is large or special, though. They’re just Pokémon you can see in the woods, with the exception of Wurmples. There’s Skwovet, but no Greedent. You wonder why the Pidove haven’t come here. >Stewview Pidove Crisis- Lv.2Right. It’s because the last city started killing them. They’re probably scared of humans now. They’ll revert to a wild population that’s invasive to the Lobraise woods, and beginning growing in a new ecosystem. They might fight with the Murrow and Swellow who have already become established, and you’re sure Pidove breed much faster, so in a year or so, the population will start doing real damage.
>>5568570You’re stirred from your thoughts by someone entering the park. They move slow, following the pace of their Pokémon. It’s a large, but short creature, with a triangular body. You take a moment to get a good look at it. It skitters across the ground with multiple pairs of legs, and has two larger limbs. Oh, it’s a Parasect! And accompanying it is Anissa. You remember her briefly mentioning this Pokémon, and it’s the only one of her partners you haven’t seen. She catches sight of Scyther quietly kicking a Skwovet off a branch, resisting the urge to cut it in half the whole while. The weak squirrel faints, and he grows a little stronger. "Hi, Penny. Mind if we sit nearby?" "Sure!" You stare at the Parasect as she joins you on the bench. It's a lot calmer than Scyther is. The mushroom is HUGE, and the bug beneath it is strong enough to carry the whole thing around. You wave at it, noting the listless, opalescent eyes. It's like the dead eyes of a frozen Clauncher. She rifles about in a plastic bag and pulls out a sandwich to munch on. The girl sticks her legs out, using her Pokémon as a footrest while she eats. "Opening day went good?" "It went great!" You smile. "Thanks for the bouquet, again, means a lot." "Of course! Glad that you're settling in. I'm not too bad at cooking Water-type dishes myself, but it's definitely not my speciality. Glad that there's more variety coming to Lobraise's culinary scene." "Yeah. Not a ton of restaurants, right?" "Not that many, no. Some dessert shops, franchises, but it's usually the same handfuls of places. Your grand opening shook things up quite a bit." You pause your conversation to retrieve snacks from your bag and fling them towards Scyther. He leaps off the branch to snap them out of the air, and you can tell that his mood is getting a bit better.Parasect shivers for a moment. In the lamplight, you can see a dusting of spores cascade from its cap. You stare at the Bug-type, a burning question forming at the back of your mind. Everyone knows how strange Parasects are. Is it even alive? What's it like raising one?"Hey, Anissa?" "Yeah?" "How long have you had your Parasect?""A long while. Since I was a kid, actually. But she's getting old now. I think she's about to have her last clutch." "Clutch?" "How much do you know about Parasects?" She inquires."Not much," you say, trying to recall whatever facts about them you have. You know their spores are good for various purposes, and that you considered catching one before. You don't know a lot about their biology. "A lot of people don't know this, but Parasect dies at the end of its lifespan as a Paras."
>>5568571"Oh. So it's actually dead? Like... Dead dead?" You ask, somewhat surprised by the confirmation. "Yeah. You have to get over that part to take care of one. My mom made sure to drill that into me when I asked for one." "It's not just a myth then? The mushroom really controls the body?" She nods, looking at the creature as it eats some of the treats you've dropped for it. Despite being a puppet, it seems like it's moving just like any other Bug-type. Anissa seems to reconsider for a moment, then doubles back on her explanation."Maybe dead isn't the right word. Braindead, I guess. Paras is short-lived. They're born, grow mushrooms, and once they evolve, they end up braindead." "What happens if they don't have mushrooms?" "I don't think that's possible outside of lab environments. But Paras who are treated with antifungal still die when they evolve. They just sit there, not moving, not reacting to any sort of stimulus until their bodies die from malnutrition." You shudder. What a sad existence for a Pokémon. Adopting one might freak you out a little. You'd probably struggle with parsing the fact that your partner would end up dying. If Scyther had to give up his life to become a Scizor, you'd refuse to ever let him evolve. You still might not, actually. The way he is now is pretty alright. "How do you deal with that? You said your mom made you learn about it." "Yeah. I had to accept that when I raise a Parasect, I'm not raising just one creature. The Pokémon itself is an ongoing process. The mushroom is just as much of a Grass-type Pokémon as Lombre or Sunflora."That's one way to look at it, you suppose. She continues."It's linked up to the nervous system of what used to be my Paras. And those mushrooms have been there the whole time. Paras' life naturally reached her end. So I'm sad about that, but the mushroom is taking over the body now. It can't function without the mushrooms, so I like to think that she just passed it over in the end. Parasect still reacts to things like a Pokémon should, eats, sleeps, helps me cook... She's still my partner after all.""What was that you said about clutches?" "She tends to lay eggs. Big clutches that have spores all over them. I sell them off to interested parties. They use them for herbal cures, make food out of them, or maybe even hatch them." Anissa pets the mushroom cap, sending another tiny burst of spores out. It's a good thing it's near the ground, you wouldn't want to breathe them in."Soon enough, the mushroom won't be able to draw any more energy from the body. And it'll wither. But she's had a good, long life. I took care of Paras, and I took care of Parasect, so I don't have any regrets."
>>5568574You nod, sitting there in silence for a few moments. Scyther eventually approaches curiously, hissing at Parasect and watching her reaction. She just sits there, rotating to blankly stare at him with those white eyes. Your partner raises both arms above his head and lunges forward, trying to make her flinch. There's zero reaction, and he looks over to you for help. You and Anissa laugh while he keeps trying to intimidate a mushroom. "Hey. Would you consider selling one of those to me?" "One of what? The eggs?""Yeah. Just consider it. I've been thinking..." You rattle the bag, and the empty Pokéballs clatter within it. You've brought it in case you ran into anything at the park. "I want to get a second Pokémon. I'm still deciding, and I want to keep my options open." "Sure. If you want one, I can part with one of the eggs. Bug-types are quite easy to raise-" She stares at your partner."Maybe not all of them. But I'll keep it in mind. Make sure you can deal with having a Paras first, though." You nod. It's about time to get back. You'd love to stay and chat with her about your respective restaurants, and find out more about her, but that'll have to wait for another time. This was just a chance meeting in the park that's left you with a possible choice of partner. You and Scyther stand and head off, beginning the trek back home.>Bond with Anissa increased! =====One well-earned rest later, you find yourself procrastinating in the morning yet again. Second alarm today, which is an improvement over Tuesday. You read the news over some oats and dried berries. You flinch as you take a spoonful of it. Man, you hate oats. Why did you buy this garbage again? It's cheap, but tastes nasty, even with sugar and fruits. >Sauteton's Lone Ranger visits Lobraise to wrangle invasive Pidove.>Boat collision at sea. >>5568594I like the idea of a Parasect as a hunting partner, but yeah it doesn't strike me as a good kitchen pokemon. >>5569207I'm still 100% down with getting a Joltick or Spinarak

>>5569691Consider Arceus could just painlessly give us a piece of himself to cook and serve, then regenerate it in an instant. Problem is is that he tastes completely different for every single unique individual that exists or has existed or will ever exist
>>5569360What does Joltic bring to the table? It's only really useful against flying types, which Scyther is managing already. It's too small to help in the kitchen, and it drives up the electric bill.I'd rather go for Spinnerack for those sweet ambush tactics or a Timburr to cover our rock type weakness. The Timburr has the big advantage of being a work pokemon by nature, serving dishes and clearing tables will probably come second nature to it.
>>5569801Joltik will be good for water types... Our specialty. Also, anything Spinnerack can do on a hunt, a Joltik can too. Timburr is also fine, though. I just prefer a spider-bro.
>>5569807What water types? It's pretty much bird, bug, rock and normal in the area. Do we even have a river or a lake to toss the ol pokerod into?
>>5569807As much as I like JoltickIt is technically a tick not a spiderSo they wouldn't truly be a spiderbro

I can't wait for the definitive vote for getting or not a Joltik. This will be a mess.
>>5569927Why should it be? I'm nt going to throw a fit if we get a different partner, like a Rockruff or Timburr or something.
>>5569930Yeah, I definitely hope no one will get a meltdown, still might be a hard decision. And I don't want to settle for Joltik before checking out a bit more for Rotom
>Sauteton's Lone Ranger visits Lobraise to wrangle invasive Pidove. The growing worries of locals about a destabilizing ecosystem has sent Sauteton’s Gym Leader and Park Ranger on a journey to Lobraise. Last Saturday, reports came in of newly-evolved Tranquil settling into the Lobraise woods and beginning to set up nests. Residents are worried about the introduction of a non-native species causing strife with the creatures who already inhabit the route. Gym Leader Munroe, known for his work in Pokémon conservation, is searching for a solution to the invasive species issue."It's tough, because they have nowhere to go back to. They have to end up somewhere, the challenge is figuring out where exactly they can go without messing with the endemic wildlife there too." Munroe was invited to a Lobraise town council meeting on Tuesday afternoon, where he objected to a proposed plan to exterminate the Pidove population in the woods. Time is of the essence, however, as the longer it takes to make a decision, the more firmly established the Pidove become in the surrounding area. "Things like that never work out. Pokémon are intelligent enough to bear grudges. You do that, and any survivors are going to get stronger. Angrier. It's what's happening in Stewview right now. Can't head out into the park without Moves flying overhead." He told The Daily Dex reporters. Munroe intends to be in town for the foreseeable future, in order to get a proper grasp on the situation and fully understand how the Pidove migration is affecting wild populations. So far, he's captured several Pidove for observation, and genetic testing has found them to be part of the very same population that recently split off from the Stewview flock. The Gym Leader is known for battling against poachers and busting numerous illegal Pokémon hunts over the years, going above and beyond the law in order to protect wild populations. His actions have earned him the title: 'Sauteton's Raucous Ranger'. "The way I see it, there's only two options. Eradicate them all, or find a way to live harmoniously with them. And I'll fight to the death against the first option."
>>5570130=====Oh, he's a Gym Leader! You definitely recognize him now. He's the guy who was here yesterday. It's nice that he stopped by your place in particular, but you didn't get to talk to him and find out more about what he's doing here. For a moment, a thought crosses your mind. He's a ranger. Maybe he's here to deal with the Rhydon issue? Sauteton is a town with loads of Grass-types nearby, and his Gym is of that type as well. You think about the Pidove issue for a little while. You're still new here, so you haven't fully examined the local balance of Pokémon populations, even if you know what all the native species are by now. However, you're not fond of the idea of eradicating them all. You'll hunt them because they're there (and they shit on your truck!), but completely eradicating their new population doesn't sit right with you. You're reminded of the Slowpoke article you read the other week. There has to be some sort of more effective solution to this. It's not your place to figure it out, though. You didn't even know there were town council meetings discussing the topic. Macy joins you as the restaurant opens up, and you get everything ready. Once again, you note the dwindling supply of Ducklett. You've sent a small complaint to your supplier, but all they've replied with is that demand in town has shot up. You grumble as you hang a couple of marinated Pokémon in the gigantic oven. Not all of the meat hooks are used today. After you get everything ready, you speak to your employee for a moment. "Hey, Macy?" "Yeah?" She calls, her voice muffled by the cupboard that her face is sticking into. "Has Liam been acting strange lately? Did he tell you anything important?" "No. Why?" Macy pops out of the cupboard with a stack of spare dishes, to replace some of the ones that are getting scratched or chipped. You explain what happened yesterday, and manage to draw an assurance out of her. "Yeah. I'll help keep an eye out for anything like that. Even if I see him outside of here." "Good. I'm getting worried for the kid." "He's not working today?" "He is, just not here. Shift is at the Pokémart today." "Kid, huh? He's only a couple years younger than us." "I know. But when I was his age, I remember how lost I felt. You really are a kid at that stage, no matter how mature you think you actually are." "Damn. Maybe I'll feel the same way next birthday, when I catch up to you in age." She smiles.
>>5570131It's another fairly busy day from then on. You have more customers, but still not as many as in the afternoon. Morning is your most unpopular slot. Not many crave fish and chips so early in the day. If you decide to make a breakfast menu, you could definitely draw more people in. Omelettes, hash brows, juice, it'd be very easy to come up with something. Until you get another chef, however, you'll end up being extremely busy in the morning if you try and attract more people. You'll end up losing the time you can spend doing things before the lunch rush. That is, assuming it's a success and you get plenty of customers. You settle down in a chair and scroll through your phone for a while, observing your to-do list. The Ducklett shortage is getting annoying, but you don't want to make a fuss out of it just yet. Unless you do. There's also a couple of things you could benefit from doing in the meantime.>Give Macy more kitchen responsibilities. She's learning fast, and has overcome the initial set of frayed nerves. You think you can give her more things to do around the place, including showing her how to cook and serve several simple things that don't need particular attention. >Train Scyther! You know the drill. His mood has recovered, training progress will be normal. [2/8]>Menu update: Breakfast. Fill up those dull morning hours, and your profits will increase. >Menu update: Octillery. Capitalize on the lower prices and trending food item.>Message anybody whose contact info you might have, and sit down for a quick conversation (Who, and what?) >Read an article or do some research (Pick one)>Write-in (Something else that you might not be thinking of)Trying a slightly different style of presenting the votes. Also, I'm going to try something during tonight's nighttime option. I'm going to make it write-in only, just to see how it goes. I'm worried that the way I list out things to do might be influencing the voting by subconsciously creating a priority order, while not fully capturing write-in options of what you guys might really want to do. It'll just be for that one vote, a couple updates away, for my own reference and information.
>>5570133>>Read an article or do some research (Pick one)Partners pokemon, and maybe online research on Rotom-hunting, like is it possible to buy a Rotom-phone, get the rotom out and in a ball?

>Menu update: Octillery. Capitalize on the lower prices and trending food item. You sit down to work out how you'll take advantage of the Octillery boom. You haven't been ordering it, but your suppliers offer large amounts for low prices due to the overabundance this year. You decide straight away to get some for tomorrow. The order will take a while, and you need to conceptualize a dish to prepare ahead of time. There are plenty of things you could use Octillery for, but your worry is that Lobraise citizens won't be used to it. The first way to fix that problem is for it to be attractive. "Hey, Macy, can you get over here?" "Sure. What's up?" She asks, as she sidles over to your booth. "Octillery. When I say that, what kind of food comes to mind? Something trending, maybe." "Hmm... It makes me think of Tankoyaki." Tankoyaki! Of course. It's a traditional snack, but recently, plenty of pop-up bazaars and street food vendors have been selling it. They often try to put some kind of fusion spin or gimmick on it. There's already coverage on the web, and it's extremely simple to make. Batter, Octillery, fish flakes, sauce and mayo, and a little bit of spice to make an artillery shell of flavour in your mouth. It's trendy, not pricey, and isn't as intimidating a prospect for someone who isn't used to non-fish seafood. Your Tankoyaki could be a cheap side dish that attracts people to come visit just for it. You're confident that you can come up with a good enough flavour mix to really stand out over the competition. The spice is your own idea. You want it to explode on the taste buds, like an Octozooka right from the mouth of an angry Pokémon.
>>5571268Then there's the classic. Straight out just toss it on a grill and serve it hot. A single one is huge, and can feed a ton of people. You can focus on making plates of grilled Octillery with Nomel juice, Dolliv oil, salt, pepper, and anything else you deem fit for it. It'll be chewy and flavourful, with a nice smokiness on the exterior. The tips will be slightly crunchy and charred, and it'll be a side dish, but one that's definitely more filling. You think this style can fit any sort of generalist restaurant, so it won't exactly be special. It'll be good, though. Serving it like this will focus on the seafood vibe, rather than being a cheap and attractive place. It'll fit your usual modus operandi of serving Water-types with your unique spin on it. However, you're already considering going a more high-class, exclusive route. The thing that would set you further on this path would be Octillery Carpaccio. It looks professional when you lay it out on a plate, with dozens of thin slivers forming an almost flower-like arrangement. This would fit the mood of a fancy luncheon or business meeting, while the sun shines in through the glass windows. There would be plenty of berries and mushrooms garnishing it, and it wouldn't be as filling as a main, but would definitely be decently expensive. It's almost like an art piece, with the reds of the meat, the yellows of the sauce, and the greens of the.... greens forming a canvas atop a plate. This will impress people for sure, but some might not feel inclined to order if they come by themselves, or don't have fancy tastes. You look around the restaurant, observing the people coming in and out. So far, your customers are just regular people from town, with the occasional visitor like the Professor or Gym leader. You've marketed to locals for a while now, and if you change the vibe too swiftly or intensely, you might drive away some of your target audience for a period. Speaking of target audience, you're still not 100% sure what it even is. It's in a constantly nebulous state, and will be that way till you eventually finalize your vision for the restaurant. There's definitely a balance that needs to be struck here, in order to survive in a small town that doesn't see massive transit often. Unless there's an event going on in Stewview or Simmersand, that draws people from the opposite ends, you don't get large crowds moving through Lobraise. "Macy, what would you eat, among these three? What do you think would sell best?" You ask, pointing to the screen, where you've pulled up three images side by side.
>>5571271"Huh. Well, I can't say I'm used to Octillery. We had them back home, but I didn't eat as much seafood back then. I think the grilled one is the most in line with the current customer tastes." "Mhm, I think so too. I have my eye on the Carpaccio, though. Doing stuff like the Murkrow filets and Ducklett quinoa is a bit closer to that than the grilled kind." She stands there for a little while longer, until you let her get back to work. You close a bunch of spare tabs on your laptop and make your decision. A light drizzle starts outside as you do, and you hope Liam doesn't end up getting caught in the rain again. Once you select the dish, you'll passively spend some time working on it throughout the week, and in a little while, it'll be ready to go on your menu.>Tankoyaki. Trendy, present in the public consciousness, and cheap. Cooking it is no problem, you could even get Liam or Macy to manage it eventually. Your special recipe will be the vital part. New customers coming to try it will be likely, particularly among the youth.>Grilled Octillery. Boring, conceptually, but it's just good food for seafood lovers. It's not a major talking point as a new addition to the menu, but you expect plenty of regulars to like it.>Carpaccio. Continue your development towards the exclusive, fancy vibe you've been working towards. You feel like you could sell this for quite a lot, and even though it would be a little more niche to people who aren't used to seafood, it'll bring your restaurant's perceived quality upwards.

>>5571272> CarpaccioThough if the Octillery boom continues, I wouldn’t mind branching into either of the others to take advantage of the cheap food and work on building out our recipe card. Once we have more chefs it’d be easier to support more varieties of the same foods.
On one hand, easy recipe could be a way for Liam and Macy to build skill and expertise. On another hand, Liam will quit sooner or later to go be the very best like no one ever was, and we're not sure how long Macy will stick around. However, it could be something to ask her. Does she want to become a chief? Or maybe we can take an apprentice?
