Welcome back.

Rules are simple: Votes are tallied every hour, with whatever course of action being the most popular being the course of action taken. Write ins are encouraged and non-mutually exclusive votes will be combined if possible.

When a roll is called for, roll however many D100 are specified.

For a short summary for the new and to recap:

You are Alex. A newly minted trainer and camping enthusiast just starting out on your journey at the age of seventeen after your father lost his job in order to help pay the bills.

Last time, you trained with Emma, bought some berry pots and a blender to make poke blocks and received some further context and unwanted advice regarding Holly's emergent Psychic Powers.

>>5540270
>>5540784

"The answer's still going to be 'no', but please, explain." You reply, genuinely thrown by Gareth's backing Winston's advice.

He nods and licks his lips, apparently reading Fie's look and aura for what they were.

"Alright, so aura is the reflexive use of the body’s energy, focused by one’s willpower. Psychic power is the deliberate manipulation of the world via a disciplined mind. The two disciplines are similar, but very much distinct and opposite from one another. Anyone can, with enough practice, awaken their aura and learn to wield it, in theory, but Psychics are born." He began.

You nod.

Okay, so far, so simple.

"At least, generally. Most Psychic trainers you see might use some psychic powers and have psychic pokemon, but the methodology they use to reach that point is that of an aura wielder and they’re generally far weaker than natural psychics. The reason why Guardians are discouraged from learning telepathy is… well, unless you really know what you’re doing, you can badly mess up someone’s mind with your reflexes keyed to manipulating aura. You can drastically alter someone’s personality or outlook, or in more severe cases, leave them with long-term side-effects like ongoing vertigo or migraine." Gareth explains.

You grimace. Insofar as consequences go, that is pretty severe.

You've had precisely one migraine before today and you've never wanted to die before, but you absolutely did during that experience.

"I can kind of see how being near you could stabilise Holly if her emotions are being eroded by these powers though." Gareth admits.

"Why's that?" Fie asks.

"Because of how strong it is. It’s kind of cruel, in a way, but it makes sense, a bit like frost melting in the sun.' He says, then fidgets and gives Holly an apologetic look. "Sorry, that was an unkind metaphor. I didn't mean to imply-"

Holly just giggles.

"It's okay." She assures.

>So, why don't I just meditate then while Holly does something else?
>Okay, those are some pretty severe risks.
>Well, that's even more incentive to get Holly a teacher ASAP.

"So, why don't I just meditate then, while Holly does something else?" You ask.

Gareth tilts his head as he thinks about this.

"That... might work..." He admits slowly after a moment. "It's worth a try, at least." He adds. "My worry is that you could accidentally wind up messing with Holly's mind, considering you're still pretty new to aura."

"Well, it's not like I'd be doing it while she's asleep and we've meditated near her before today." You note reasonably.

"True..." Gareth says, though he still looks a little doubtful.

You get the impression his primary concern here is for Holly's wellbeing, but there's also notes of concern for you. And worry for himself, which you surmise has to do with what his mentors might say if they found out you did this on his recommendation and Holly got hurt.

You can't exactly blame him there, you suppose, but it does strike you as over-cautious.

"How likely is it for something like that to go wrong?" You ask.

"I'm not sure, exactly." Gareth admits. "The other Guardians never really touched on if meditation with a psychic even was a risk." He admits.

"How about you just give one of 'em a ring and ask instead of agonising over it?" Fie suggests.

"I would, but there's no reception at the monostary." Gareth says. "...And I don't actually have anyone's mobile numbers." He admits sheepishly.

"Landline?" Fie prompts.

"Not out on King Island, there isn't."

"Ah." Fie nods. "Okay then, that torpedoes that idea." She says, then claps her hands. "Anyway, the Barrier Islands. I'd assemble the best teams you can and make sure you've got a pokemon that can Fly." She advises, then frowns as apparently a thought occurs to her. "That Braviary of yours would probably be able to carry you and Holly pretty easily, Alex, but I'm not actually sure Latios and Latias could at the minute." She admits.

>How would we check?

At least some sort of harness will be necessary.

Assemble team:
Fluffy (healer)
Volta (dealing with water types)
Latias (even if she can't fly she can surf)
KayO (close to evolving so likely our strongest battler)
Rascal (fly duty)
Last spot is either sage or Blitz for fire duty.

Get food supplies and prepare for navigation.
Maybe nab some swimming vests just to be sure.

"I know a place that'll let you rent one." Fie assures.

"I guess for the sake of convenience, I'll stay here and keep training and helping Fie." Gareth says. "Since I don't really have a pokemon that could fly me anywhere or island hop effectively."

If this ends in failure we'll have to go back to the idea of meditating with Holly once a day hopefully we don't have to do anything more than that and we'll probably have to come back to get Gareth's help. But at that point we'll have to all make another island expedition but by boat.

"...Alright, if you feel that's for the best." You say, nodding.

You don't particularly want Gareth to stay behind.

Not because this means you'll be going to the islands with just Holly, but because it feels a bit like he's missing out.

Still, you figure you can go exploring with him another time.

He nods and starts on his breakfast in earnest as you excuse yourself to make use of Fie's PC.

When you call home, your mother answers, but she looks more tired than usual.

You swap Sage out of your team for Volta after explaining where you're off to, before your mother's fatigue finally gets to you.

"Are you okay?" You ask with concern.

Your mother nods, then shrugs.

++"Don't mind me."++ She assures. ++"These third-rate amateur thugs tried to firebomb the house last night."++ She explains offhandedly.

Your eyes widen in alarm at this before your mother continues.

++"Meowth and our, that is, mine and your fathers', pokemon had them all tied up before the Fairburns were done calling the police. We were up half the night hauling some of them out holes Arcanine had dug, trying to convince Victreebell to spit two of them out and Cacturne to let another one go."++ She says, before smiling. ++"I'm glad to see that the apple's not fallen far from the tree, but try and be careful. Just because you've been dealing with incompetent posers, doesn't mean there aren't dangerous crooks among them."++

"Don't worry." You assure. "After they cracked me over the head with a bike lock in Newport, I've been taking them seriously."

Your mother relaxes fractionally.

++"Good. Well, have fun on this little side trip. It might wind up being interesting." She says, with a nostalgic smile that makes you want to ask about what exactly she and your father used to get up to.

You make a mental note to try bribe the story out of Meowth the next time you're back home.

You end the call after saying your goodbyes go and retrieve your gear, then go meet Holly as she's petting the Houndoom Fie just introduced her to and apparently, making good progress on making friends.

"Right, let's go get that saddle and gather some supplies." You say as you join the pair.

"Okay, here's the rental fee and this is where you need to go." Fie says, handing you a note with an address.

You nod, before borrowing her pen to make a note to get some bathers, a charge converter and some Leppa seeds, though here at least, Fie comes to your rescue with some of her own to save you time.

This done with, you catch a taxi to the beach and head towards the pier, making a detour to a surf store to get yourself some swimwear.

Holly meanwhile, gets something without your input, which you're initially a-okay with and even pleased about, taking it as a good sign she's growing less self-conscious, until she rejoins you, blushing and refusing to say what's got her so flustered.

You mentally shrug her embarrassment off and head down to the rental place Fie noted and get Rascal fitted with appropriate tack for flying, as well as harnesses for yourself and Holly, before you spend the next fifteen minutes practicing the mount and dismount to make sure you know what you're doing with it. On the advice of the manager of the rental place, you also grab a life preserver each, just in case.

This taken care of, you and Holly grab some emergency supplies in addition to the charger.

By the time you've finished packing and have made it to the correct dock at the pier, the boat out to the islands is making final preparations to leave.

You pay for your tickets and board and within ten minutes, you're on your way.

A casual look at your map doesn't reveal all that much about the Barrier Islands, besides the fact that they sit atop a coral reef, they're populated by a disproportionate number of psychic pokemon and that according to legend, those pokemon are the descendants of pokemon that gathered there long ago to stop a calamity from befalling Arnet.

Intrigued, you decide to read further. Finding a good account of the legend is frustrating, but while you’re looking, you discover some interesting information:

The Barrier Islands themselves stretch from just off the coast of Saltcoast City up to Cape Castelia, though the term is also used interchangeably with the nine largest islands, which are less-commonly referred to as the Guardian’s Shield. The southernmost island is called the Mariner’s Temple but despite wild tales of fantastic treasures and powerful pokemon, all that’s in abundance there are Wingull and Pelipper which use the island as a nesting ground.

There’re also a few small settlements on the four largest islands, namely South Crescent Island, Timekeeper’s Scepter, Dragon’s Claw and Mantine’s Wing.

South Crescent Island boasts the oldest settlement, which maintains a peculiar and ancient relationship with Sinnoh and specifically Jubilife City, being founded in the aftermath of a ship of traders bound for the nascent settlement getting lost in a storm and foundering there.

Timekeeper’s Scepter’s settlement is apparently little more than an outpost used by trainers or pilgrims looking to visit the Johto-styled shrine that can be found at the centre of the island, apparently after the rescue of the initial settlers of South Crescent Island, though there are some claims that the shrine actually predates them, preposterous as it sounds.

The settlement on the Dragon’s Claw is likewise another shipwreck story, though it’s one of the more popular islands to hike, featuring the best tracks as well as the most facilities, including camp and picnic grounds and rest stops.

Mantine’s Wing meanwhile, is privately owned by Palm Corp and is host to an exclusive, ritzy resort.

Quite how Palm Corp came to purchase the island and set up the resort in the manner it did, which is to say with a devil-may-care attitude to environmental laws and habitat destruction, without getting crucified by the League and the Arnet government is a matter of some debate, but it’s still a popular holiday destination for the very rich and even hosts a vibrant high-stakes battling scene.

(Part 1)
>>
>>5543501

Finally, you find a good account of the legend itself:

Back in the mists of time, a great Mantine and a great dragon would antagonise one another for their own amusement.

One day, their pranks went too far and driven to rage, they began to fight, headless of the destruction their conflict wrought on the world at large.

Their fighting stirred Arnet’s Guardian from its slumber, but the Guardian couldn’t quell the fighting alone, so it sought out the Great Serpent, which both the Dragon and the Mantine held in great respect.

The Serpent came upon the pair and demanded they stop their conflict, which they did, ashamed, but too late, for a great wave had gone up and was set to destroy all of Arnet.

In desperation, the Guardian begged the Timekeeper’s aid in stopping the impending doom racing across the sea to Arnet.

The Timekeeper acquiesced and speared her sceptre into the sea, disrupting time in the area and giving the Guardian enough time to muster his strength and raise a great barrier with a beat of his mighty wings.

When the wave struck the barrier, it shattered into pieces and bent the Timekeeper’s Sceptre, which had formed the heart of the Guardian’s barrier.

Exhausted, he retreated to his home to rest once more, while the Great Serpent banished the Great Manta to a lonely lake and sealed the Great Dragon beneath a red mountain before taking to the sky to keep vigil in case the pair should try to cause more mischief.

The Timekeeper though, couldn’t loose her sceptre from the sea and it’s remained stuck in the sea ever since.

(Part 2)
>>
>>5543505

You frown.

Where did all this about a 'Timekeeper' come from?

A quick search later and you're trawling through stories that seem just a little too far fetched to believe:

If you believed some of the stories you find, time doesn't work quite as it should around Timekeeper's Sceptre and never has.

There's everything from accounts of hikers being accosted by armoured knights and samurai, tour boats running across tallships and extinct or non-native pokemon sightings out the wazoo.

Apparently the island's outpost has enough of a presence from scientists and hopeful trainers alike to have a permanent pokemon centre.

It's while you're studying that a hostess starts making the rounds and apparently finding out where everyone is bound.

When she gets to you, she gives you both a welcoming smile.

"Where would you two be bound today?" She asks, winning a lot of brownie points in your point by not just assuming you're headed somewhere particular based on the look of you.

"South Crescent Island." You reply.

The hostess nods and then quotes you an arrival time of two hours, before continuing on her rounds.

"Why South Crescent Island?" Holly asks. "Wouldn't Dragon's Claw Island be a better bet? Or the Timekeeper's Sceptre?"

"Mostly, so we can gather information." You reply. "Also, South Crescent Island might boast the largest settlement, but it's still not as developed as the Dragon's Claw." You explain. "It's also liable to be safer than the other islands for it."

Holly nods.

"You're right." She admits.

You don't need to mention Mantine's Wing. You know why Holly wouldn't want to go there and she knows you know why she doesn't want to go there.

The only question now is how to spend the next two hours.

You're broke, so buying anything from the onboard kiosk or canteen isn't on the cards right now, but before you boarded, you did see a small arena on the top deck, so you might be able to get a battle or two in, provided you don't get carried away.

She wires you about a tenth of what's on her card and looks very pleased afterward.

You also get a sense of relief at being able to help out from her.

In the aftermath though, you're compelled to offer some advice.

"If I were you, I'd not go flashing that around." You say in an undertone, leaning in. "And when you place bets in a battle from now, I'd set an actual, numerical value like, say, 500, rather than just doing percentages." You say. "You don't want to go getting bullied for money by opportunists."

Holly looks at you, rather taken aback and a little bewildered, but she nods all the same.

"I will." She promises.

Now you've got some money to bet with, this opens up some options.

You make a note to check the job board when you get to the pokemon centre regardless, since it'll be a good way to teach Holly the value of labour.

In the meantime, looking around there're a few other trainers to choose from and you're paralysed with indecision for a moment before a bored-sounding sigh from across the way catches your attention.

When you turn to get a better look at whoever sighed, you see it's a kid about your age. His kit looks to be pretty high end and the bookish-looking boy next to him is engrossed in a book.

The guy starts looking around and brightens as he sees you looking before standing and sauntering over.

"I say, you wouldn't happen to be a trainer, would you?" He asks with very obvious hope.

His accent sounds like posh Galar.

"I am." You confirm. "You looking for a battle?"

He nods enthusiastically.

"That sounds like a splendid idea." He says. "How does three on three for, oh, 2000 poke sound?" He asks.

"Sounds reasonable." You admit. "How many badges do you have?"

"Three." He replies. "I'm only really dipping my toes into this Trainer business, as it were, before I finish school and it's off to university." He admits sheepishly. "Still, Arnet's been a wonderful adventure so far." He adds earnestly. "So, shall we?"

"Sure."

With that, you head up top to the arena. You have to wait a bit for a match in progress to finish, but once it's over, you face off across the arena.

The referee is one of the crew who looks at you both warningly.

"Right, no really big pokemon and no moves that could be a risk to the boat or anyone on it, clear?" He asks.

"Crystal." You assure.

"Of course." The guy replies.

There's a pregnant pause as you both reach for your poke balls.

You briefly wonder whether or not this guy ever stops talking before you respond.

The boy hesitates, drawing a poke ball, before Kay O-o collides with Herdier and knocks it out cold with a single tail strike before giving a triumphant roar, that would be cute if he wasn't in such a bad way.

"Azumarill, you're in." The guy says as he recalls his Herdier.

If you recall correctly, this is a terrible match-up for Kay O-o and he's injured to boot.

"Thunder Fang." You order.

"Mud Slap, Azumarill." The boy counters, calmly.

Volta bounds forward, avoiding most of Azumarill's hurled mud before clamping down lightning-wreathed fangs on Azumarill's shoulder, dealing an incredibly hard blow to the rotund, blue pokemon but as Volta disengages, Azumarill is still up, wreathed in amber to your eye, while Volta still glows a healthy green and somehow, not blinded by the mud Azumarill threw.

Volta gets tagged before she can move, predictably, but Breloom doesn't disengage in time to avoid getting bitten in return her fangs wreathed in flame this time, which actually leaves Breloom burned.

Volta spits some fine powder afterward, but seems otherwise unaffected.

It seems neither attack was a particularly solid hit:

Volta's aura is still green with spots of yellow, while Breloom's is only slightly tinged by yellow, though the yellow spots grow more pronounced as Breloom is afflicted by its burn.

"Yeah, good battle." You agree, before you cave and decide to ask something that's been bothering you. "Why'd you hesitate? With Azumarill and switching on Herdier?" You ask.

"Oh, well on the first, I wasn't sure who to switch in and on the second, I didn't think 'Bounce' was a particularly good idea with the clip this boat is doing." The boy replies. "Still, a loss is a loss and it'd be poor form to be sour grapes over my own failings."

This takes you a moment to process, before you nod. A quick question as to where he's bound revealing his destination to be Mantine's Wing. You part ways after that, two grand richer and with some valuable experience of your own.

Not to mention rattled by how hard Kay O-o got hit. He did well to hang on, but if he had've gone down there, you'd have been in serious trouble.

This thought plagues you as you clean Volta up and patch her and Kay O-o up with Fluffy's help.

Holly buys you all refreshments while you work and you settle in to enjoy the rest of the trip to South Crescent Island.

Let's see the moves we've reached the requisite levels for otherwise try and teach Rascal, Fluffy and Blitz Agility.
>>
>>5548967
>>5548978
>>5549176

While you're eating, you decide it's time to look at moves again.

You decide to check Growlithe first to double-check when Blitz can safely finish training Crunch.

As it turns out, he can't for a while yet, but Agility and Flame Wheel are both good alternatives as is Helping Hand and on double-checking, you've not taught him Protect yet, which considering how often it's saved your ass and how much you tend to use it, you feel you ought to remedy as soon as you can.

Kay O-o, meanwhile, is coming up on evolving, where he'll have access to a much more diverse range of moves, including punches, thanks to the fact he'll actually have hands.

Right now though, from what you're reading, Iron Defense, Dragon Claw, Screech and Work Up are all moves he can comfortably learn and considering Checkers knows Safeguard, you feel you could teach it to Kay O-o with Holly's help an.

Rascal meanwhile is in an interesting position:

He'll apparently need a lot more training before he can learn some of the moves you can see, but he'll pick them up a lot more organically than most of his wild brethren will, if you're right.

Tailwind, first and foremost along with Whirlwind and Air Slash.

Normally, he'd be able to pick up Superpower, but he simply hasn't got the strength necessary at present and after the incident with Blitz's tooth, you have reservations about attempting to teach Rascal Sky Attack.

There's also a small boatload of moves you could teach him from TMs, but Agility is the only realistic one you could manage right now, with Latias's help.

Overall, he seems to be in a pretty decent place for the time being, from what you can judge.

Volta meanwhile runs into a similar issue, with Roar and a few choice TMs being the only real choices until around the same time she'll be ready to evolve.

Fluffy, meanwhile is in an interesting spot where he's ahead of the curve in some respects and behind in others. He knows Bite before he really should according to the pokedex, along with Heal Bell and Wish, but he's not picked up Quick Attack or Swift, though you perk up when you see Baton Pass is a move he can learn and you feel decently confident he could pick that up with Latias's help.

And as to Latias, she's once again, rather eclectic, which you feel is partly down to Henry's having trained Latias and Latios as best he could.

You have a few ideas for her though. First and foremost, Reflect and Light Screen to complement Safeguard, along with Camouflage.

You feel like yshe could pull off some very impressive tricks with those moves.

Beyond those, Stored Power catches your eye, though she's not quite ready to learn Mist Ball, from what you can see.

(Part 1)
>>
>>5549297

You blink and look up to see Holly grooming Checkers.

You lean back and close your tab with a sigh.

"I won, but I had to work for it." You reply. "There's definitely more training I've got to do with my team, sooner rather than later. Kay O-o's by far and away my strongest pokemon, but he nearly got knocked out in one shot. If he had've been, I could've very easily lost."

"Oh." Holly pauses in her brush strokes. "Well, maybe while we're island hopping, we can do some training?" She suggests. "I've been doing some by myself. Just general conditioning, mostly, but it seems to be paying off. I think my team could use some more move variety though..." She says, then fidgets, apparently grappling with something before she takes a deep breath. "Alex..." She says and you see a blush creeping up her neck.

Uh-oh.

"Do you, um... could you please..." She's so red you'd think she was sunburned if you hadn't just seen her turn that colour before your eyes. "Couldyoupleaseteachmetofight?" She mumbles in a rush.

What?

You have to play that last part back, but it sounded like she asked you to teach her how to fight.

"Sure." You reply. "Why's that so embarrassing to ask?"

You were expecting something a lot worse from how she was blushing.

"Well, uh... it's not ladylike." She says, fidgeting. "And- and well..." More blushing before she leans over and whispers a lurid series of ideas about activewear, posture and technique correction, working out until you're both pouring sweat and cleaning up afterward that has you staring in turn.

"...I can say categorically, no, learning to fight is nothing like that." You assure after you've finally shaken the images that put in your head loose.

"Oh." She slumps in relief. "That's a relief." She says. "I'm not sure if I could... um..." She trails off fidgeting again.

Arceus above, she's got it bad for you.

Which in a twisted way makes teaching her self-defense an even better idea, since some self-confidence would probably go a long way to at least mitigate her hero-worship.

You steer the conversation away from bad romance novel territory after that and back to the practicals of your little expedition and shortly, though thanks to all the planning you did this morning, there's not really a lot left to go over. Just last-minute supply gathering you can get done at the supply kiosk at the pokemon centre.

That done with, you fall back on studying and spending time with your team until the boat finally reaches South Crescent Island.

The settlement the boat stops at, properly Half-Moon Village, looks a lot like you've stepped back in time and the architecture looks exactly like something out of a history book on ancient Sinnoh's past but it's pretty clear that this isn't a replica:

The roads are paved, there're solar panels on every roof and small helix wind turbines here and there and the everyone's mode of dress would fit right in on the mainland.

Still, with the lush greenery everywhere, it's still a beautiful town and it's clear the locals put a lot of effort into keeping it that way.

You quickly make your way to the pokemon center and sure enough, there're a few jobs in need of doing.

You take relocating Wingull nests and after encouraging Holly to pick something, she's welcomed to the kitchen to prepare for lunch.

You've been doing this with other bird-pokemon in Greenshoot for years now, so you know exactly what you're doing.

That taken care of, you spray some repel around the gutters before heading inside to see how Holly is doing.

She looks mildly panicked at the pace of work necessary in the kitchen, but she's managing quite well and by the time lunch is called and some of the locals and visiting trainers filter in to take advantage, she looks exhausted.

The food's pretty good and when she rejoins you after lunch, looking exhausted, you congratulate her on a job well done before going up to the counter to collect your pay.

It's not a bad little stipend you pick up and Holly is faintly bemused by her own pay for the hour's work, but doesn't say anything as you start looking over a map of the island.

Over lunch, you were able to pick up some good information from the locals: There's a mountain towards the centre of the island, where apparently more powerful pokemon reside, while the northern and southern tips of the island are less frequently visited, but tend to to be frequented by rarer pokemon for it.

After some debate, you decide to just circumnavigate the island.

"Isn't that going to take a while?" Holly asks anxiously.

"Two days, according to what I heard over lunch." You confirm. "We can just follow the shore. It'll be a good way for us to start on some proper exercises for you after we've got you some fitness gear."

Holly swallows.

"Uh... h-how about we just head north?" She asks. "No need to go wasting time on side-stuff right now."

She raises a good point.

I'll also try to keep up my aura meditation to twice a day as well since Gareth said I can help you subdue your psychic power that way.

Tracking down a sports shop doesn't take long and after Holly has some proper sports clothes, you head off northward in earnest.

The northern tip of the island seems to be rockier than the south according to your map, which contributes to it being so infrequently visited, but Seel, Spheal and more rarely Poplio have been known to rest there, along with their evolutions and there's also a Slowpoke colony.

The island itself is quite beautiful and with the white sandbars just offshore and the shoals of whitebait in the shallows and the water pokemon out in the deeper, clear blue water, it's paradise. The weather is just the right side of warm and the sun is out and balancing the breeze stirring the forest inland.

It's paradise... And for all of an hour, you and Holly have it all to yourselves as you jog along and cycle with just walking to work on Holly's stamina.

About an hour out of town, you catch up with a trio coming the other way.

A junior ranger with a heavy-looking hiking pack, a woman a few years older than you with a roll of what looks like crepe paper in her belt and who does a double-take when she notices you and looks like she's trying to decipher something, and a boy with a heavy bracer on his left arm and wearing a tight bodysuit of somesort, with goggles hanging around his neck and a helmet looped through his belt by the strap.

They wave as you get closer.

>Noon:
Holly Psychic meditation (Calm mind+positive emotional suggestions+telekinesis practice)
Alex fishes up some magikarp for cooking.

>Evening:
Volta and Fluffy training Double Kick, Volta training it to apply it as a positioning maneuver (i.e. using it for jumps, sidestepping and rapid direction changes). Alex meditating on the move Secret Power or finishing Low Kick.

"Espurr, Fake Out Pidgeotto!" Holly orders with a degree of urgency.

"Toxic Spikes, Nidorino." The Camper orders.

Apparently, these two have a favoured strategy.

Fluffy glows and causes Checkers to glow in sympathy as he claps his hands loudly, startling Pidgeotto in the process and messing up its attempt to blow Fluffy back to you as Nidorino flings dozens of glowing crystalline shards of solidified poison over your side of the field.

Holly gives you a nod and a thumbs up.

Pidgeotto is wreathed by yellow under your aura sight, while everyone else is green.

Also: Been trying to think of a way to make the roster more fluid and the easiest ways so far as I can see are a 'fatigue' system and\or upping the frequency of injuries.

Thoughts?

So far, I've been relegating injuries to critical knockouts or situational failures with training and while it's come up a couple of times, it's not working out quite as well as I envisioned.

My thoughts with 'fatigue' is basically 'you finished a town\arc\leg of the journey, your present team could use a break.'

Injuries, I was just thinking link it to knock-outs, or high-rolls for enemy moves instead of crits, but again, I'm open to feedback or input on the subject.

I don't really have any thoughts on a fatigue system, but it sounds like it could add to the dept of the world a little. Having injuries could have a similar way going about things. My only worry is that it might become annoying after a while, but there's always a chance that happens with rolls so ultimately I'm fine with it.

"Fluffy, use Wish." You order.

"Reflect!" Holly orders.

"Growlithe, use Quick Attack Eevee!" The Camper orders.

"Pelipper, Wing Attack on Espurr!" TheBird-Keeper orders.

You don't see Growlithe move, but it bodies Eevee and you hear a crack that makes your heart freeze before he howls in pain and tumbles back to you where he fetches up trembling in shock and pain before Espurr raises a shimmering barrier of light which throws Pelipper off.

It misjudges its spacing and misses Espurr wildly, while simultaneously leaving itself wide open.

"Use Cut on Pelipper, Checkers!" Holly orders as you quickly recall Fluffy for the moment.

Checkers meanwhile doesn't waste the opportunity afforded and lands a heavy blow on Pelipper, turning its aura from green to yellow in the blink of an eye.

"Will your Eevee be okay?" The Camper asks in concern as you all pause.

"He's probably going to have at least a cracked rib." The woman says. "I'll do first aid." She says, hurrying over. "We're officially in time-out."

You release Fluffy again as the woman brings out a Revive and gives it to Fluffy, who quickly settles as the analgesic quickly kicks in as you use the scan function of your pokedex to do a cursory x-ray and sure enough, there's a clear crack in one of his ribs.

You dig out a potion and spray it on the site of the injury before pettinghim gently and murmuring apologies and assurances to him before returning him.

Volta manifests a barrier and lunges at Growlithe, just barely getting in the way as it snaps at Checkers, stymying its charge and giving Checkers enough room to hit it with a brilliant blue wave of psychic energy, which hurls it back and fetches it up on its belly in front of the Camper unable to battle.

"Aw..." He says, before recalling his charge.

Further celebration is cut off as Checkers begins to glow.

Holly gasps as you all watch on, before with a flash, the light clears and where there was an Espurr, now stands a Meowstic.

"Congrats, Holly." You say as Checkers takes cautious steps towards his trainer and beams up at her.

She stares, before bending down and with an effort, sweeping him up into a hug, looking for all the world like a proud parent.

"Back to Half-Moon Village to get Fluffy looked at." You reply. "After that... well, we're looking for a strong psychic pokemon to help Holly with something." You explain.

"Huh. Well if you're looking to try your luck on Imbrium Island, you'll have to wait for low tide tomorrow morning." The woman says. "You might get lucky and find a Slowking or something on this side of the water, but Imbrium Island, you ought to be able to find Medichan, or Gothitelle."

"Thanks for the tip." You reply. "Any other places we might want to look?" You ask.

"Mount Diadem. It's pretty rough, but the strongest pokemon on the island can be found there. Maiden's Cove, you might find a Gardevoir you could talk with about whatever you're after and down in Frigoris Forest on the south side of the island, Alakazam tend to be fairly common, same with Xatu." The woman replies. "Of course, if this is a haunting, or something I could deal with it for you." She offers.

"Er... no, sorry." Holly says. "It's not anything like that." She says.

"Oh, well good luck, regardless." The woman says. "Just be careful out there, around the edges of the island, most of the pokemon tend to be fairly manageable, but the further into the interior you go, the stronger they get." She warns.

With that, she and her companions leave you to it.

You release Braviary and saddle up, before you quickly leave them behind as you fly back to the village.

It's all of about fifteen minutes before you're back at the pokemon center and calling home.

You quickly explain what happened and send Fluffy to your mother, receiving an assurance that he'll get the rest and care he needs.

You go back and forth on who to replace Fluffy with, Fie's advice loud in your ears, before ultimately, you decide that leaving a gap on your team is worth the risk.

If you find an interesting pokemon that can't help Holly, you can fill that gap with them and in your mind, that's worth the risk.

After saying goodbye to your mother, you go to the pokemon center kiosk and buy a couple of revives and some more potions before rejoining Holly outside.

"Didn't you get another pokemon to fill Fluffy's spot?" Holly asks with a note of concern. "Fie was pretty serious when she said there's some fairly strong pokemon to be found here."

>That's why I left a spot.

"...You're right." You admit, realising how bad an idea that going out without a full team actually is.

Sure, you might catch something interesting to fill that gap, but it's categorically not worth the risk. You just needed to hear someone else say it.

That in mind you head back to the PC and call back home.

Nika's just flatly not a good fit and too young besides for this little side-project and Coolie, the Applin you caught hasn't been trained and doesn't have much in the way of moves so you discount them immediately. You're tempted to get Piker to fill the slot and keep training him, but this isn't a training trip. Syurm is who your gut is telling you to pick, but you're pretty sure Rusty ought to have recovered by now and you could always bring Sage.

And beyond them, there's the other pokemon you've not interacted yet. Ayumi most prominent among them. Even green in comparison to everyone else as she is,according to your pokedex she knows Dragon Rage and Thunder Wave, both eminently useful moves you could get some decent mileage out of.

There's also the as-yet-unnamed Murkrow you caught, which given the abundance of Psychic Types on these islands could prove helpful.

Let the others stay home for now.

Leave instructions for the others tho:
>Have Ayumi and Piker practice watergun then water pulse together, also leave the blue blocks we have in our box so our family can feed them to Piker.
>Hand Murrow to dad to train it for nightwatch duty against team Green goons (it's ideal and with prankster thunder wave it can raze them while sounding the alarm).
>Have Syrum help with setting up traps in the shrubs against team green (spikes and webs galore).
>Tell dad to take Rusty with him on any jobs that might require him to do digging or smashing up rocks (let him practice Dig, Metal claw and Rock smash).
>Send 1k home for food and a grooming kit that is left to the little sister to manage.

We'll really need to do a week of focused training for Fluffy only after this island adventure.

You're paralysed with indecision for a long minute before deciding on Sage.

While you're on the line, you leave instructions for the rest of your team:

For Piker and Ayumi, practice together, so Piker can learn Water Pulse via practice and Ayumi by observation and imitation.

Into the bargain, you send over your blue pokeblocks for Piker.

After some thought, you let your dad know that in the wake of the attempt to attack the house that you think it might be best if he raised Murkrow. At least, for the time being.

He advises that you think on the subject, but agrees to teach her how to act as a night-time sentry.

Where Syurm is concerned, you suggest she could help lay traps in case Team Green comes back, which your dad agrees is a good idea, before he pre-empts what you were about to suggest with regards to training Rusty by mentioning he's been taking him to help with digging holes.

Apparently, there's a few of the larger farms that have been refencing lately, so he's been keeping busy digging post holes, which has kept Rusty occupied now he's recovered from his knock to the head.

In addition, apparently Nika's coming along well and been getting more energetic, though apparently Queenie's been keeping her out of too much trouble, in between providing honey.

With a guilty joly, you realise you'd almost forgotten her.

You suggest maybe she could practice Fairy Wind with Sarah and Vulpix, before your dad informs you she's actually been keeping the Skwovet out of the backyard, which has been keeping her occupied inbetween her other apparent hobbies.

Now you're updated on your team and have an assurance they're keeping busy, you say your goodbyes and go out to join Holly before you set out again to the north.

It's mid-afternoon by this point, but you figure you should at least try and make some distance.

As the afternoon drags on, you find that your pace slows down as Holly begins to tire.

You get about half the distance to where you battled the Camper and Bird-Keeper before she actually collapses into the sand and you have to help her up.

You slow down after that before you start looking around for a campsite.

The sun's going down by the time you actually find a small spot up by the treeline and away from the water... but it's already occupied by a very large and presently sleeping Slowbro.

When you look at it via aura, even asleep, it virtually radiates power. It's clearly very old and very powerful. You're not sure whether Fie's Houndoom could handle it if it got pissed off.

Well, Slowbro aren't known for being particularly aggressive.

You shrug and start making camp.

You've barely dropped your pack before you feel the ground tremble.

You tense, expecting a move like Sleep Talk to have manifested a move, and then the most godawful stink to have ever assaulted your nose nearly sits you on your arse.

It smells like fermented, rotten shellfish and cabbage fart.

You watch Holly heave and vomit as you stagger out of the clearing, the weight of your pack throwing you off balance as Holly scrambles after you, before you're fleeing down the beach away from the toxified clearing.

You stagger on, coughing and wretching, but you somehow manage to keep from throwing up yourself.

Arceus, that was vile!

You keep walking for a good fifteen minutes before you find another spot.

This one's at the base of a cliff, well back from the beach, sheltered by rocks and comfortably large enough to set up your tent and a fire.

Holly holds the torch for you while you get a fire going with some kindling and dried driftwood you gathered as you walked before helping you get the tent set up along with the camp shower.

Before you even think about dinner, you heat up some water courtesy of Beauty, Holly's Feebas and fill the shower.

You both still smell enough like Slowbro flatulence to kill your appetite and you're reasonably sure you're going to need to wash your clothes to get rid of the lingering smell.

"You go ahead and take a shower. I'll keep watch." You say as you strip down to your underpants and rig a washing line for when you wash your clothes to get the stink out.

"Um... no, you can." Holly says. "I can wait. You're doing all the work." She brightens. "Or, we could just hop in together." She suggests. "Save some time."

"Then who's going to keep watch?" You ask pointedly.

"...Oh." She fidgets before hurriedly going to the shower tent and throwing her clothes out to you as she starts rinsing off.

You leave her towel out for her along with a fresh pair of socks for when she's finsihed, then start on doing the washing.

You've got some laundry soap and freshener, which you were expecting to only need when you hit Route 5 and the other long routes running through the interior, but this isn't worth running all the way back to town for. Again.

You boil more water, find a good stick and dump your clothes into the wash basin and get stirring.

Once you're satisfied the stink's gone, you wring everything out and hang it on the line to dry. By the time you've finished, holly's done with the shower and you trade off, leaving dinner to her.

After such a long day, the hot water fills good, but the soft rose scent of the soap is even better as you wash yourself off, which doesn't take that long, before you're towelling off and changing into sleepware yourself.

By the time you're done, dinner's starting to smell good, but it's not done yet, leaving you with some time to kill.

All things considered, you decide to do a bit of training and spend time with your team.

To that end, you release them and do some supervised roughhousing, before you corral Blitz, Volta and Rascal and have Latias demonstrate Agility for them.

To your surprise and delight, Blitz gets the hang of it pretty quickly.

Volta's not far behind, but Rascal is struggling.

While you're trying to give him some more direction, Blitz bounds over, looking to play and bodies Rascal, knocking him off balance and earning a pained shriek as he rolls his ankle.

He hops away, looking afronted as Blitz barks and looks up at you hopefully. It seems he's picked up Quick Attack along with Agility.

"Blitz, that wasn't very nice." You chide, before going to retrieve a potion and going to get a better look at Rascal's ankle.

Fortunately, it looks like he's just rolled it and has some bruising.

You spray on some potion and giving him a reassuring pat on the shoulder, before Holly calls that dinner's ready and you go dig in.

Yeah so I've been thinking about downtuning your training schedule.
We're on the road and with just the two of us having you tired all day is going to make any psychic training you do difficult.
Let's stick to jogging only every two days from now on and only doing a daily stretching routine with dynamic stretching in the morning and static stretching in the evenings.
Also let's avoid any battles that aren't 1 on 1.

"I think we ought to downtune your training a little." You say after a minute or so focused on the food.

"Hm?"

"We're on the road and with just the two of us having you tired all day is going to make any psychic training you do difficult." You explain. "So, let's stick to jogging only every two days from now on and only doing a daily stretching routine with dynamic stretching in the morning and static stretching in the evenings." You suggest.

"Uh... sure. That sounds reasonable." Holly agrees. "I'm probably going to feel terrible tomorrow, anyway." She adds.

"You're getting better and you do get used to it." You assure, as another thought strikes you. "Also, let's try avoid battles that aren't one on one. That Flying Specialist could've dragged out Latias or Latios with Whirlwind and it kind of goes without saying why that would be a bad thing."

Holly nods her agreement.

"Yeah. Latios has gotten stronger, but they're not ready to take on the sort of challengers they'd attract." She says.

You focus on your meals after that, before you do the washing up.

Holly does some light training with her team, before you bank the fire and you both retire to your tent, Holly setting Fie's Houndoom to keep watch.

She yawns, then gives you a hopeful look.

You blink, non-plussed.

"Fie and I are together." You note.

Holly fidgets and looks away looking a little hurt.

"I know, but my feet are killing me." She says. "This is the most I've ever walked anywhere in my life and it's like once we hit an hour going anywhere, my feet are just sore all the time. I'm not- I'm not a spoiled rich girl just complaining for attention or jealous, but when we stop, my feet are just in agony!" She explains in a rush, tears in her eyes.

This isn't an act. You don't need aura to see how worked up she is over this.

"Okay, let's have a look..." You say as you shift so her feet are in the light.

You poke and prod a bit, taking note of every time Holly flinches or stiffens but it doesn't seem like she's hurt herself.

Part of it is probably that she just isn't used to hiking, but Fie made sure to get her proper boots, so she ought to be used to it by now.

"Has this always been a problem for you?" You ask gently.

She sniffs and nods.

"Always. Even before I ran away from home, but I never brought it up because no one would've cared. Least of all my father." She says.

"Hm... If this keeps up, we better fo see a doctor after we're back in town, just in case." You observe. "You might need orthopedic shoes."

Holly's face clears a little.

"Maybe." She agrees, before you go back out and fix some more water to heat while you do your best to ease some of the pain she's feeling.

Back when my childhood friend jumped me like that and i didn't put a stop to it immediately i've definitely hurt both her and Fie's feelings.
I don't want to do that again by not drawing firm boundaries.
So sorry if i came off as a dick, was just lost in my own world suppose and didn't notice you needed help.

You're silent as you start channelling aura and do as Gareth showed you for a minute, before you reply.

"I'm not afraid of you, I'm just being cautious." You reply.

"Cautious. Like I'm dangerous?" Holly prompts, before you shake your head.

"I don't want to hurt you." You elaborate. "I'm your friend. And while I don't regret stepping in in that dream, I ended up making you dependent on me. And while I really don't know how to deal with that, the last thing I want to do is make it worse." You explain. "I'm sorry if that looks like I'm avoiding you, but I'm just trying to maintain boundaries." You explain. "I'm trying to help you become the best person you can, but I don't want you pining after me or hero worshipping me."

Holly gives you a long look.

"There's also the point that the last time I wasn't firm, I wound up hurting an old friend pushing her away and hurting Fie as well, even if she put on a brave face." You add. "I don't want to make that mistake again."

Holly continues to give you that long look and you fidget.

"I've been lost in my own head a bit there though, so... sorry. I didn't notice you needed help. The next time that happens, tell me. We could've gone to see a doctor sooner."

Holly sighs and shakes her head as you focus properly on the massage.

You had tensed up as you focused on the one spot, but it doesn't seem like you've made things worse.

"Apology accepted." Holly says, giving a content sigh as you retrieve the now warm water and start bathing her feet. "I'm sorry if I came off as clingy or desperate." She adds. "You're just the first boy I've met who wasn't an entitled jerk." She explains. "And... I guess the whole 'anchor' thing doesn't help."

"Do you want to talk about it?" You ask as you continue the massage.

There's definitely tension here and it's not particularly easy to ease, but between the hot water, what Gareth taught you and reading Holly's aura for indicators of what's working you're at least helping her feel better now.

Holly sighs and shrugs.

"It's no big deal. Boys I met at functions, mostly." She explains. "Sons of other rich families, trainers who made it big and had egos to match, socialites, you know the sort." She says. "A few of them even propositioned me." She adds, then scoffs. "As if wealth and good looks would impress me, let alone make me want to blow them."

You look up, startled at the slang from her, as much for it as for what precisely she said.

"Don't give me that look, I'm not a fairytale princess. I've been to sex-ed lectures and gotten the pamphlets. And just because I went to an all- girl's school, that doesn't mean I haven't heard about these things." She adds in a blase tone, that's rather at odds with the apprehension radiating from her like a fire.

You get the sense she's really working up some courage being this open and she's worried. Likely at how you'll react.

>I'm sorry to hear that.

"You serious? These idiots idea of hitting on a girl was asking them to blow you?" You ask incredulously.

"Oh, they offered to reciprocate, but..." Holly grimaces. "Ah, no. Not when we literally just met and have been talking for all of five minutes."

"I've kind of got to admire the brass cheek, but Arceus above..." You shake your head. "And I didn't take you for the princess type, just... sheltered."

"That's not a bad way to characterise it, but 'imprisoned' might be a better descriptor." Holly says bitterly. "My father never let me go anywhere or do anything and he was always talking with the teachers about how I was doing in class, who I was talking with... I used to have a few friends, before he set thugs to tail them." She shakes her head. "He's a control freak. Fie's dad sounds like a jerk, sure, but if you were with me, I'm pretty sure he'd actually try and have you beaten into a coma."

"Well knowing all that, I'm surprised you managed to escape." You admit.

"I wouldn't have without Checkers and some careful planning." Holly says, then fidgets.

"What?" You ask.

"...I had some help from someone else as well, but... I don't think I should say anymore." She explains. "Just in case."

"Fair enough." You say, nodding as you dry her feet off. "It half sounds like your dad was looking to marry you off or something." You note.

"He might've for all I know." Holly says tiredly, then hesitates before she finally speaks. "I didn't really have a plan post running away." She admits. "I spent three nights on the streets before I met you, Fie and Gareth and for how cold and miserable they were, they were still better than home."

"..." You're silent at this. What the fuck are you supposed to say?

"Alex?" Holly asks.

You look up to see she's smiling at you. It's got a certain sadness to it, but it's genuine.

"I know I'm a mess." She says. "And I get why you're cautious." She adds. "But could we talk more like this outside of my dreams?" She asks. "Just as friends? I've never had anyone I could just talk about stuff with."

"There's always Fie and Gareth." You note.

Holly nods.

"There are, but Fie still sees me as a rookie she needs to teach and guide and I'm pretty sure Gareth's scared I'll turn into an axe murderer or a nymphomaniac if we're within arm's reach for more than ten seconds." She says.

You chuckle at that descriptor. Now that you think of it, ever since the lake, Gareth has looked on edge around Holly.

Might as well give a quick recap.
She ran away from home because her rich father is evil, so she died her hair and is using a fake name. The physic detecive Acadi Winters asked to take good care of her because it's a situation similar to what happened in Alola.
Since Team Cracker existed before Team Green, I think her father is funding team Green somehow as a smokescreen to his world conquering plot.
>>
>>5565741
Oh, and I also think Fie's dad might be involved too, even if he doesn't know. Because there was something about him working for that company or something like that.
Isn't it weird how the son of two ex-criminals is the one with the best relations with their family so far? Our childhood friend might count, but she did stay away from a long time without ever mentioned from were she came from, even though she said it's to not drawn paparazzi's attention.

"Of course, what're friends for?" You ask rhetorically. "We'll just have to be careful about where and when since, you know..." You say meaningfully.

Holly nods as she relaxes.

"I know." She assures.

You make a mental note to take Holly home with you at some point.

You're pretty sure the closet in the cellar, full of outfits both generic and outlandish, along with a disguise kit plays a bit into what your parents used to do, so maybe they could help Holly refine her disguise some.

Your thoughts are interrupted by a yawn from Holly.

"Yeah, time for bed." You agree, before hoisting her up in your arms, earning a startled yelp, followed by a giggle as you carry her into the tent and set her down before she sets Houndoom to watch the door as you both clamber into your sleeping bags.

"Night..." She says, before you drift off.

That talk must've done some good, because you sleep soundly and dreamlessly and wake to your alarm chirping the next morning, feeling refreshed and energised.

Holly yawns and blinks sleepily at you.

"Are you going to train this morning?" She asks sleepily, as she wipes her eyes.

Gotta meditate before/after lunch tho.
Try and see if we can teach Sun Dance to Blitz along with some discipline training for him so he doesn't act out.
Who knew that the comparatively hyperactive member of an already hyperactive canine species would be a troublemaker right?

Btw does Sun dance only amplify Sunlight or does it create some sort of hovering light orb above the user that acts like a lens that gathers and amplifies all light through it?
If it's the latter than we can basically use it to wander at night.

"No, we'd best get moving and try find you a teacher ASAP. We can't really afford any more accidents and if that Slowbro is any indication, we're going to want to be quick. Might do some after lunch or after we've found you a teacher." You reply as you turn your back to give Holly some privacy.

"Oh. I was hoping you and sage could help me teach Checkers Psybeam." Holly explains. "And Latios, come to it." She adds.

"Latias could stand to learn that as well, so I guess that'll be training for later. For now, let's get ready and get going. We should be able to get to Frigoris Island by mid morning if we don't get held up again." You reply. "If we're lucky, there'll be a Slowking there that can help us."

Holly nods.

"If there're just Slowbro, I think we can keep looking." Holly agrees with an awkward chuckle.

You dress quickly and heat up the leftovers from last night for breakfast, before you check on the berries you planted.

You were expecting sprouts, but they've already fruited to your complete shock. You give Houndoom a couple for keeping watch during the night watch, before replanting another few and packing away the remaining three before you pack up camp and get to walking.

You let Blitz out as you walk. Goodness knows, with how much energy he's been demonstrating and that incident with Rascal, he could use a run to tire him out.

He ranges out ahead of you, but doesn't run out of sight, happy to chase interesting smells and generally enjoy the nice, sunny morning.

You keep one eye on him as you walk while you keep an eye out for other pokemon.

You see a wild Espurr watching fertively from the trees and following at a short distance and out in the water, you can see Staryu and Starmie and a few Slowpoke swimming after a Slowbro, though otherwise it seems rather quiet so far. The evolved forms look markedly more powerful than their pre-evolved forms. They could be trouble if they get involved if you try and catch something.

All things considered, you decide that Sage covers Psychic duties on your team quite nicely and that nothing here really catches your attention.

You keep on walking, admiring the beautiful white sandbars out in the translucent aquamarine water, the forest off to your left and the cloudy blue sky above you.

It's another two hours before you start coming up on the northern tip of the island and sure enough, you can see the Slowpoke colony from here.

You recall Blitz before he can bark, wincing at the noise, before releasing Kay O-o and Volta with further winces at the noise.

Holly releases Checkers and you're gritting your teeth in expectation of being spotted, but somehow these Team Green goons haven't noticed you and the Slowking, blessedly, hasn't pointed you out.

"Get ready with Fake Out and Reflect." You advise Holly in an undertone.

She nods.

"Safeguard first, then Reflect, then Light Screen." She says as you start creeping closer.

You nod, before addressing Volta and Kay O-o.

"Kay O-o, Dragon Dance. Volta, Agility." You instruct and they start using the moves as you get closer, more or less completely out in the open, the sand squeaking under your shoes loud in your ears as you get within easy earshot of the trio.

"-Don't care. Give us the relic and then we'll go. If you don't start cooperating, you're going to get hurt." The green-haired idiot says, doing his best to loom over the Slowking.

"I don't care. I've got a job to do and way scarier humans have tried threatening me before you."

Holly stops in surprise at the deep-timbred voice the Slowking speaks in and you're a little taken aback yourself, but considering Meowth, it's not as surprising.

You recover quickly, and keep creeping closer.

"This is the easy way. You don't want to try the hard way. The hardway involves the Boss and his associates visiting and burning this place to the ground." The green-haired leader says.

"This is a beach." The Slowking notes, deadpan.

"Right, that's it. Vileplume-" The leader begins, releasing the pokemon in question.

His book ends release a Golbat and a Houndour in preparation.

They all look to be about as strong as Kay O-o. Individually, they'd be a challenge for most of your team, but none of them look to be quite as strong as Slowking. Together, he could be in trouble though.

Fortunately, Kay O-o and Volta have been using Dragon Dance and Agility as they creep along beside you and under your aura sight are blazing with power.

"You want in on this, or you want to watch?" The Slowking asks, addressing you and Holly now, making the green-haired leader and his thugs spin to look at you, comically surprised.

"Kay O-o, Aqua Tail that Houndour, Volta, Fire Fang Vileplume." You order.

"Checkers, Safeguard!" Holly orders, forgoing Fake Out on seeing the disarray Team Green are in, in favor of setting up your own defenses.

A shimmering veil envelopes your team as Slowking hits Vileplume with a Psychic. It's not a very strong one, but as Volta bites down on its back, it topples, out cold, so you can comfortably say it's powerful.

Kay O-o, however, goes in with a huge swing, misses and ends up launching himself clear over Houndour as it turns to face the new threat only to find empty air as Kay O-o lands and spins to face you and Houndour's back.

This whole battle has the makings of a clusterfuck, but at least you have the initiative.

"Tch, Tropius, Whirlwind!" The leader says as he recalls the defeated Vileplume and sends in his Tropius instead.

Looks like you'll have to be quick.

"Checkers, Reflect!" Holly orders as Slowking slams the Golbat with a Psychic, putting it out of the fight before it can even think about using the Confuse Ray its trainer ordered it to use on Kay O-o.

"Kay O-o, Aerial Ace on Tropius. Volta, Double Kick Houndour!" You order.

The Houndour's running to take a bite out of Checkers but gets intercepted and hit hard by Volta's leading kick before her follow up puts it out of the fight.

Kay O-o meanwhile, slams into Tropius, hard and dealing a tremendously hard hit to it...

But not quite enough to stop it from blowing him back at you in retaliation.

"Checkers, Light Screen!" Holly orders and a third defensive barrier springs up around your team as Slowking hammers the Gloom with a Psychic.

Astonishingly, it manages to stay up, though not for long if you have your way.

"Sage, Incinerate Tropius. Volta, Double Kick Sneasel."

"Tropius, Whirlwind that fucking Luxio!" The leader orders.

"Ice Shard that Luxio, Sneasel!" The second grunt orders.

"Magical Leaf-" The first Grunt orders, but they're too late:

Volta takes the Ice Shard decently well. Her vital force is still shining green to your eyes as she retaliates with two hard kicks, like a bucking Rapidash, both of them taking Sneasel in the chest and knocking it out cold.

Tropius meanwhile has barely managed to raise a breeze before it and Gloom are bathed in flame from Sage, finishing what Kay O-o started, along with Gloom, leaving the opposite side of the field clear of enemies for a moment.

"When we're done here, I'm going to break your limbs and fuck that bitch while you watch!" The Leader of the trio threatens as he sends out a Cradily next.

"You're welcome to try, asshole." You retort even as you feel a sinking feeling at how this thing glows under your sight. It's not quite as powerful as Slowking or Fie's Houndoom, but it's loads more powerful than Sage, Checkers or Volta.

The only one on your team that might stand a chance against it is Kay O-o.

Holly for her part turns red at this pronouncement and not with embarrassment. She's livid.

While you were trading barbs, the two underlings subbed in a Bisharp and Salandit respectively.

They've got to be running out of pokemon soon, right? There's no way they actually all have full teams of six, right?

Nope, Sage isn't going to do well here. "Volta, Double Kick Bisharp!" You order as you recall Sage and send out Kay O-o.

"Swift, Checkers!" Holly orders.

Slowking meanwhile throws up a Protect screen.

You're confused why for a second before the Team Green Leader orders a Leech Seed at it in the same breath.

"Mega Drain Slowking, Gloom!" The first Grunt orders.

"Dark Pulse!" The second Grunt orders.

The Bisharp doesn't get to so much as twitch before Volta is on it and slamming her forepaws into it, sending it skidding across the sand and ending in a small trench as Cradily and Gloom are pelted with stars from Checkers as they try and fail to hit Slowking.

Then, Kay O-o begins to glow, drawing all eyes to him, before after a brief, stunned moment, there's a flash and where the little dragon you could pick up in your arms stood, there's now a bipedal dinosaur with the beginnings of an armoured hide that stands almost shoulder high to you snorting and glaring at the Team Green Leader, who takes a step back, apparently not up to the task of staring down a dragon.

You can feel Kay O-o's displeasure with the guy. There's no way he heard his threat, but he didn't need to. Your connection seems to have gotten stronger and he can pick up on it just fine.

The second Grunt, in the aftermath recalls the downed Bisharp and looks around restlessly before with an air of panic, starts trying to throw sand in Slowking's eyes.

"Uh-oh." Slowking says, looking to Kay O-o.

"Cradily, Razor Leaf that Hakamo-o!" The Team Green Leader orders.

"Acid on the dragon, Gloom!" The first Grunt orders.

"No you don't! Checkers, Confusion!" Holly orders.

"Volta, Fire Fang on Cradily, Kay O-o-" You begin as Volta charges in and bites Cradily, leaving it burned, before it and Gloom pelt Kay O-o with acid and sharp leaves.

In response, the growl rumbling in Kay O-o's chest turns to a roar and he charges, wreathed in purple flame and heedless of Volta and slams into both her and Volta, knocking the latter out cold before ripping into the Cradily with unfettered rage.

You quickly recall Volta as the Team Green Leader, now pale with fright withdraws his now badly injured Cradily and sends in a Krokorok.

Kay O-o bellows and wastes no time into ripping into it now as Checkers and Slowking put Gloom out of the fight next.

"Kay O-o-" You begin, but he doesn't hear as he tears through Krokorok before charging at the Team Green Leader, who actually pisses himself as he falls over, before stopping dead as Slowking encases him in Psychic energy, before turning to the Team Green Leader.

"It's time you and your friends left, Kyle." Slowking says in a very unconcerned, almost absent sort of way.

The Team Green Leader - Kyle - and his two goons don't need any more encouragement, fleeing headlong down the beach past you as Kay O-o continues to roar and thrash against Slowking's hold before finally tiring out and all but collapsing himself.

With how he looks to you, shocked and scared when Slowking looks at him, it's pretty clear that whatever that move was, he was barely in control of it. If at all and he wasn't ready for it.

You step forward and put a hand on Kay O-o's shoulder. He's trembling and flinches, looking at you guiltily.

"It's okay, Kay O-o. You did good. We'll learn to control that move soon. You've just got to keep on growing. Let's just check on Volta first."

He nods, before stepping away and looking back down the beach where the Team Green Leader and his thugs fled.

"They're gone." Slowking says helpfully as you release Volta and give her a revive.

It's pretty obvious she's hurt bad and a quick scan confirms it: Multiple cracked ribs, and a fractured back leg. She's going to need some serious downtime.

Still, you can help that along some.

You release Latias, who flies a short loop, before looking in immediate concern at Volta and hovering close.

"Can you use Heal Pulse on her?" You ask.

Latias looks between Volta and you for a long moment, before shaking her head.

"She's afraid she'll make things worse." Slowking translates helpfully.

You sigh.

"Thanks anyway." You say, patting her shoulder before returning her.

"It was worth a try." Holly says. "I'd ask Latios, but he doesn't know Heal Pulse."

You sigh.

It'd be great if you could switch your team around on the fly, but that's not possible without a PC.

Still, you could designate Volta's ball as the one to go home and catch another pokemon. Or just fly back to Half-Moon Village on Rascal.

First thing's first though...

"Hang in there, Volta." You say, ruffling her ears.

She leans into your touch, before you return her, then straighten and face Slowking.

"Thanks-"

"No, thank you. That would've been tedious if you two hadn't have done such a good job chewing through those threes' teams." Slowking says. "You got any leaves?" He asks, apropos to nothing.

"Leaves?" You ask, startled.

"Tea." The Slowking replies. "It's been a long while since anyone brought any out here. Those three tried giving me some stringy brown weed that smelled bad."

"Uh, yeah... we should have some." You say after a moment's thought, shrugging off your pack and digging through until you find a tin of them, before opening it for Slowking's edification. "We were actually hoping you could help us." You say.

He inhales, seemingly ignoring you, before giving an appreciative sigh.

"This way." He says, gesturing behind him to the rocks.

You trade a look with Holly, before following, Kay O-o falling in behind you, taking long, awkward steps as he gets used to bipedalism.

As you pick your way down the rocks, you start getting to the Slowpoke colony proper, stopping at an old, weathered shrine carved from the surrounding rock, with a much less weathered looking basin on a plinth, not unlike a bird bath before it with a few weathered wooden cups sat on a small ledge beside it.

"Okay, put 'em in." Slowking says, indicating the basin.

You pour the whole tin in, before Slowking inhales and uses Scald into the basin, the swirling, boiling water mixing the leaves in an instant before settling into a black pool.

This done, Slowking fills the cup before offering you, Holly and Kay O-o a cup each before sipping at his own.

"Ah... This is nice." He says.

It's strong is what it is. The tea has a flavor reminiscent of smoked meat, but Kay O-o seems to be enjoying it and Slowking certainly seems to be enjoying it.

"So." He says. "What brings two young trainers like yourselves to Imbrium Cape?"

"Well, like I said, we were hoping you could help us." Or Holly, really. "She's a Psychic and-"

"And you want to find her a teacher." Slowking finishes, before blinking. "She seems to be doing alright to me." He says.

You both shift.

You've just talked things out with Holly, but you really don't want to have to explain your reasons to a stranger.

"Either way, I can't help you. I'm the Guardian of this shrine and I can't leave it." Slowking says, gesturing to the shrine in question.

"What's the shrine to, Arceus?" Holly asks.

Slowking shakes his head.

"No, Arnet's Guardian." Slowking says, then sobers. "Those thugs wanted the Tongue. They claim to have the two halves of the Skirt and they will be back." He says.

"The Tongue?" You ask.

"See for yourself." Slowking says, indicating you to climb the steps to the shrine.

You do so cautiously and inside it, on a pedestal at about chest height, suspended on one faceted end in front of a little window looking out across the water in the direction of the Timekeeper's Sceptre is a crystal the length of your hand from the tip of your middle finger to your wrist, with the top end featuring an impossible ring, currently held on a hook in the roof of the little shrine.

You don't know much about crystals, but you're pretty sure you remember hearing in a movie once that a circular shape like that ring would be impossible to carve without shattering the crystal.

There's also a sort of... unreal feel about it. Not unwholesome or bad... -No. Not unreal. It's more like this crystal is the most real thing you've ever seen. It's powerful. There's a sort of... potentiality about it. Like it has the power to change everything.

Cautiously, you look at it through your aura sight, before you stagger back with a yell, throwing up an arm uselessly at the blinding light the crystal gives off and fall backwards down the steps.

With a groan, you stagger back to the group and shakily down your tea before getting yourself another cup.

"What is that?" You ask, feeling spooked.

"Part of the Timekeeper's Bell." The Slowking says. "I doubt those three have good intentions for it." He adds. "I can't help you. Or, not the way you want. But could you do me a favor and take the Tongue with you?"

"I've got a better idea." You say, taking out your pokedex.

"Oh, you know someone who can help?" Slowking asks.

"Yeah. Someone who'll be very interested to hear about what Team Green's up to." You confirm.

"By all means." Slowking says, indicating for you to make the call. "Then, I'll tell you where you'll have better luck finding a teacher for your friend."

You step away for a moment before ringing Detective Winter's number.

She answers within three rings.

++"Yes?"++ She asks tersely.

"Sorry to bother you again." You preface. "Holly and I are out in the Barrier Islands at Imbrium Cape and we just got done fighting that Team Green leader from Lake Clarity and a couple of his underlings." You say.

++"...You're sure?"++ Winters asks in a forced calm voice.

"He had the same pokemon as he had then. A couple had evolved and he had a Vileplume as well, but I'm sure." You confirm.

++"Imbrium Cape. That's on South Crescent Island, right?"++ She asks.

"That's right." You confirm. "Last we saw of him, he was running back towards Half-Moon Village after Kay O-o evolved and savaged his Cradily."

++"Right. You sit tight where you are while I deal with this. I'll call you when things are resolved."++ She says.

"That's not all." You say. "They were after this crystal in a shrine here. The Guardian claims it's a piece of something called the Timekeeper's Bell and that the Team Green guy, Kyle I think he called him, claimed Team Green had the other two parts."

There's silence for a long moment before Acadi replies.

Finally, she sighs.

++"...Okay, that's concerning."++ She says, with the air of someone knowingly making a gross understatement. ++"Okay, the part that's there, take it and find somewhere to hide out until I call you back."++ She advises. ++"I've got no idea what the Timekeeper's Bell is, but Arceus knows, nothing good will come of it if Team Green gets their hands on it."++

"...Right." You say, heavily and with a sinking feeling.

++"I'm sorry."++ Acadi says, sounding genuinely like she doesn't want to have to rely on you for something this big. ++"Unfortunately, you're the only one there who'll actually leave the area, if I'm not mistaken."++

"No you're right, just this is an order of magnitude more dangerous than we were expecting this to be." You reply.

++"I get that, but there's literally no one else I can turn to on this."++ She says. ++"Just take the artifact, get whatever supplies you need, then find the deepest, darkest hole you can find, dig it deeper and hide in it and let me handle the rest."++

"Right. I'll call Fie and let her know about this as well."

++"I was going to anyway, since the Barrier Islands are her responsibilty, but good call."++ Acadi agrees. ++"Was there anything else."++

"Well, this Kyle guy threatened he was going to break limbs then rape Holly and he threatened Slowking that his boss and backers would burn this whole area to the ground." You recall.

Acadi sighs.

++"Of course he did."++ She says tiredly. ++"Arceus, I miss Ghetsis some days, at least that bastard had some class."++ Another sigh. ++"Right. Make that call. I'll start getting things ready here."++

With that, the call ends, before you immediately ring Fie's number.

She should be taking a mid morning break, right?

She answers almost immediately.

++"Hey, Alex? You and Holly done already?"++ She asks brightly.

"Er... no..." You reply, before briefly outlining the situation.

Fie is a lot less restrained in her reaction to your story.

++"Fuuuck."++ She swears, with a long-suffering sigh afterward. ++"Yeah. This is definitely my business. I'll round up Ian and ask Emma if she can sub in and we'll be out there in a couple hours. You just take the Detective's advice. This 'Tongue' is our lose condition in whatever this is. If Team Green can't find you, that's as good as stopping them. Now, get going I'm on my way."++

With that, she hangs up, leaving you to do just that.

"So, how'd it go?" Holly asks anxiously when you return.

You briefly explain things for her and Slowking, who brightens at the news.

"You'll take it? Great. One second..." He puts down his mug and goes and takes the Tongue before wrapping it in a length of kelp, before you carefully wrap that in turn in your towel and bury it in your pack. "Now, if you want to find a teacher for your friend, I'd try the west side of Mount Diadem." Slowking advises. "You should be able to find a teacher there."

>>5576501
>Ask about getting to Imbrum Island
We aren't ready for mount Diadem.
"Slowbro do you happen to know teleport?"

If yes we immediately send a text with our location after arriving and go on our merry way catching Pokémon and camping in the shrubs.
>>
>>5576516
Man we can just catch a new mon to send send Volts home automatically.
Gareth needs a flying mon so someone already suggested catching a Wattrel.
>>
>>5576592

That is an option, if anyone else wants to vote for it.
>>
>>5576592
We could, but is going on a high-level island with one party member incapacitated really a good option?
I mean, even a Slowpoke's farts are enough to affect us badly. I can just imagine that Slowpoke was one of the weaker psychic mentors Holly could've had.

>We could, but is going on a high-level island with one party member incapacitated really a good option?

As I said we use the automated feature to send Volta home after we catch a new mon. The Wattrel we can find/catch easily to do so and later hand it to Gareth as he needs a Pokémon that can fly him around.
Meanwhile it will be a good unnoticeable flying scout.

>I mean, even a Slowpoke's farts are enough to affect us badly. I can just imagine that Slowpoke was one of the weaker psychic mentors Holly could've had.

That's why he's pointing us to mount Diadem where truly strong Pokémon live.
We aren't ready for those since our team is battered and we need to keep a low profile to avoid Team Green and their backers (meaning no teturn trip to town any time soon).
Teleporting to another island solves the hiding issue and we can try to catch and raise a Meditite while there to enhance our battle strength/aura training (pure power Medicham is no joke).
>>
How made are the Team Green piss-stains going to be after their specially prepared army of Pixilate Hypervoice Sylveon can't do shit against KayO due to Soundproof?
>>

>Ask about getting to Imbrium Island.
Teleport outta there. Also medicham/wattrel get support to send Volta home.
>>

Rascal is injured and shouldn't strain his leg while flying us for the next few days or we might seriously disable him.

You're assuming if they got one, they'd listen though.

>>
Half Moon Village
>>5576516
>>5576611

Imbrium Island
>>5576542
>>5576621

Ordinarily, I'd roll but this is kind of a big choice, since this is the difference between swapping out Volta and resupplying and going onto a wilderness island and hoping you can find a pokemon there that you can catch to replace her instead.
>>
>>5576615
If we can teleport out of the island to a recovery center, then that would be ideal.
Still I'd rather have a fully healed team than have to rely on a new pokemon. That and any pokemon we catch can be teleported back home anyway.

>>5576625
That is a good point, but that just makes me want to go back to resupply even more (I know that there's a risk, but there's also a risk to his leg in just going forward).
>>
>>5576649
I hate how that's probably something they'd do.
>>
Haven't voted so far...

>Imbrium Island
>>
>>5576653
Imbrum Island likely has a small settlement/lighthouse and at least some sort of emergency facilities.
>>
>>5576667
Hopefully it's not just going onto a wilderness and hoping to find a pokemon that we can catch to replace Volta while Rascal is still injured.
>>
>>5576670
I believe with flying types it's a matter of just of offering food to lure them.
As for meditite/medicham as fighting types they will definitely be interested if they get to observe us doing martial arts training/meditation or teaching KayO fighting moves.
>>
>>5576674
That depends on the rolls too, as well as hoping we don't run into any strong pokemon with a beat up team.
>>
>>5576674
But you do bring up a point in Meditie/Medicham, since if we find them they might be good pokemon for Holly to have. I'm betting their psychic abilities will be more than enough to assist in mentoring her.
>>
>>5576684
Possibly. At least a good addition for both our and her team.
>>
>>5576686
I almost want Busy to make it so that if we encounter and befriend one, it's just a single one. Just so that we will be forced to make the choice in either giving Holly a pokemon that specializes in calm and meditation to help her or getting another strong fighter for our team.
>>
>>5576693

I'm taking notes, don't worry.
>>
>>5576694
Is it weird I'm kind of looking forward to it?
I'm honestly curious how anons would vote if that scenario were to happen, cause while giving it to Holly is arguably the more moral choice (both to help her control her psychic powers and to help her be able to defend herself with her team) I see support for keeping the 'mon for ourselves (even though we have some pretty hard hitters already).
>>
>>5576703
Honestly doubt op would limit us from finding a second one.
>>
>>5576703
It's a matter of whether we find a Wattrel first or a Meditite as sending Volta home has priority.
>>
>>5576703

I take it as I'm doing my job correctly.

Anyway, update in a bit.
>>
>>5576707
I guess we'll have to see. I just find it to be an interesting choice that could happen.

>>5576709
That's not what I mean. It's about keeping it or not.
And I agree with sending Volta home as soon as possible, which is why I'm against going into the wilderness to begin with.
>>
>>5576710
I have a question, do we have a way to get back from Imbrium Island without using Rascal that doesn't involve waiting for a boat to come by?
>>
>>5576718

You have Latias and Latios who can ferry you across a la Surf.

But that's it, readily available.

Slowking *will not* leave the shrine for anything.
>>
>>5576652
>>5576656

"What about Imbrium Island?" You ask.

"It'd be a decent place to hide." Slowking agrees.

"Is there any settlement there? A lighthouse or something?" You ask.

"Nope." Slowking says, shaking his head. "Just dense forest. More of us and the occasional bird pokemon and Medicham dedicated to training." He adds.

"Can you teleport?" You ask, the seeds of an idea forming in the back of your mind.

"Yes." Slowking confirms.

"Will you teleport us to the Island?" You ask.

"Nope. Sorry." Slowking replies, shaking his head. "I can go as far as the treeline from the shrine and that's it."

Damn.

>Have Latias or Rascal fly you to the island.
>Fly back to Half Moon Village.
>>
>>5576720
>nothing except using our legendary jet pokemon out in the open
Okay, this is is a bit worse than l thought it would be. Man, guess Rascal is going to have to tough it up for a bit with his leg, hope nothing permanent happens to him.
>>
>>5576722
>Fly back to Half Moon Village.
Alright, since there's nothing there that can help us if our team gets in critical condition and we'd have to either risk having Latias seen or have Rascal possibly get worse flying to a different island I'd take the chance to recover.
>>
>>5576722
Not using Rascal because he's injured.
Guess we're leaving Imbrium Island for later.
We could surf there but without supplies it's not viable.
Switch into our bathers and circle the island via Latias/Latios Surfing us around while using Camouflage and hiding close to the water surface.
Keep enough distance from the coast to avoid unwanted observers until we're close to town.
Then once near we go in alone for supplies/switching Volta before fucking off into the shrubs.

>>Fly back to Half Moon Village.
Have Latias/Latinos camouflage (if possible to extend it to us) while at it a d drop us a bit away from the village to avoid being sighted.
We swap Volta for Syrum, supplies and Holly buys up some TMs with her money (Teleport, Screens/Cosmic power, Gravity).

With a grimace, you release Rascal and take a look at his injured leg.

He's favoring it, but not as much as last night, so he's on the mend but you don't want to take any chances.

You recall him, before releasing Latias again.

"Latias, can you hide me as well as yourself?" You ask.

She shakes her head immediately in a clear no.

That really limits your options.

"What're you thinking?" Holly asks.

"I'm thinking that we're going to have to get Latias and Latios to fly us back to town through the forest." You say.

"If you're worried about rascal's leg, why don't you just ask Latias to use Heal Pulse on him?" Holly asks. "It's not broken, right?"

This actually a really good point.

You release Rascal again and do another scan on his leg to double-check and sure enough, there's no sign of any bone damage, so at most, he's sprained his ankle. Which considering Judy's knee back at Henry's cabin, is well within her capability to fix.

"Latias, Heal Pulse on Rascal." You say.

She nods, before bathing him in pink light.

He relaxes noticably and puts more weight on his leg to test before cawing and strutting back and forth with a notable elation at being in tip-top shape again.

"Alright, Rascal, c'mere, we're going back to Half Moon Village again..." You say, pulling the saddle off your pack again, before patting Latias's shoulder. "Good job." You say.

She preens, before going invisible. Evidently, she's up for some flying as well.

It doesn't take long for you to saddle Rascal up, then you're away, beelining back to Half Moon village.

It's an hour's flight, but you see the running figures of the Team Green trio far below you, easily three and a half-odd hours behind you now.

(Part 1)
>>
>>5576813

When you land, you waste no time in heading to the PC and sending Volta home to your mother with a note as to her condition.

++"What happened?"++ Your mother asks in concern. ++"Did you run into a powerful pokemon?"++

"No." You reply. "Kay O-o evolved. And he learned this move that sent him berserk."

++"Outrage."++ Your mother says. ++"It's powerful, but he mustn't have been able to direct it properly. I'davoid using it if you can avoid it for the time being.++ She advises. ++"Experience and maturity is going to be the only way he'll properly master it."++

You nod.

++"Who do you want to take her spot on your team for the time being?"++ Your mother asks. ++"And do you want to make any more changes?"++

That's a good question...

Guess we're leaving for the Southern Forrest first after resupplying if we want to meet up with Fie later or to Imbrium if we want to "wait out the storm" for a few days while trying to catch some wattrel/meditite.

That said we should ask Holly if she can grab a few generally useful TMs (Shock Wave/Doubleteam/Haze/Defog/Cosmic Power/Hidden power/Natural gift).

We ourselves should grab a bunch of various berry seeds(including vivichoke/medicinal leek seeds with some booklet on how they're grown), a bottle of liquid fertilizer and maybe a crafting kit/recipes from the traditional herbal pharmacy (that way we can maximize our ranger skills usefulness while hiding away).

As for Syrum we should prioritize teaching her Cut/Razor Leaf/Furycutter/Swords dance before doing level training.

Considering what you're in store for, you decide to resupply.

You buy some more revives, potions and a couple more poke balls before you divide the grocery list with Holly and go buy enough food to do you for a week or so just in case.

There's something of a dearth of berries though, but upon asking at the counter, you learn there's a herbalist store in town that sells berries and herbal remedies and even offers recipes.

On further inquiry, you also learn there's a TM store in town.

Armed with an address, you head off.

It's not hard to find the shop in question and you're taken aback at the variety of medicines on display.

Then there's the recipes.

They're not just for medicines - there're traditional recipes for poke balls as well, along with pre-cast metal parts to complement the tumblestone requirements.

Modern balls have little in common with these early versions, but the function is mostly the same, but you'd need to add in the microchips and other more modern components to be able to put them through the PC and to prevent thefts.

Fortunately, these components are for sale as well, along with herbal components for the recipes on sale.

(Apricorn ball recipes and the recipes from Legends Arceus are available for their usual prices. Kurt's Ball recipes are 1K each, if you want any, as are basic crafting kits.)
