When you returned to the main throughfare, and people saw you bloodied upon the back of the horse, some stopped and stared, others pointed. You must look a mess, but you were smiling.

Then they came upon the rose standard of House Clover. A soldier fetched your father, who on seeing you went white in the face and called for a maester. He helped you down. Lady Marisa appeared behind him, startled into concern over the situation, if not you.

"You've a brave son, my lord, my lady," the 'knight' said, "Six boys sought to do him great harm and he fought them to a standstill before being bested. They're in no better shape than he is."

You near laughed at that, and felt it mad none could guess who the stranger was. "Know me only as the Knight of the Blackwater Rush," Daemon said, "And if we have the honour of meeting in the lists, do me the honour of riding true and holding nothing back. That is all I ask. Now I'm needed there, Ser Redwyne is awaiting my lance."

"Then I will meet you in the tilt, ser," your father said.

Before he left the mystery knight gave you a last look, ytou felt a kinship in his glance. Laughing he mounted his barded steed, setting it into a trot as he went for the lists. Now you were alone with your family. Father walked you to his tent.

"There will be trouble from this," your father muttered as he opened the flap for you, eased you onto your bed.

"The melee, tomorrow," you said, "May I still ride tomorrow?"

"Only if the maester says you're able, though I doubt that very much," your father said, "Rest, son. I...you need to rest."

He closed the flap leaving you in the dark, resting on soft blankets, the pain was fast catching you, making you unable to move. You put a hand to the favour still hanging from around ytour neck, blood stained green velveteen. It still smelled of Linette, difficult as it was to smell through your bloodied nose.

It was becoming difficult to remember what had happened in the crash of steel on steel, the chaos of shouting and fear, but you remembered her face in your mind at the start. If not for the courage her favour gave you, you wondered how your fight might have otherwise gone. Her favour, and her kiss.

Rest, your father had said. But you had little rest with your heart still quick on all that had befallen you this day. You sat staring when the tent flap opened.

It was Maester Petyr, from the Westerling camp. He carried a kit to the bed, setting it down on the bedside table.

"Hmm, we meet again lad," the young maester said, inspecting your cut, "I've seen worse. You're lucky, who ever did this is a good hand. A worse made cut can be harder to heal, but this is a neat slice. Here, see this bone exposed? The sternum, and undamaged." You couldn't see, though you tried. "A little injury to the pectorals but nothing significant. Aesthetically this is nasty, but as for serious injury surprisingly superficial. The biggest risk is infection, so we'll clean out the dirt and grass then wash it with boiled wine."

A small hope awoke in you. "Well I be well enough to ride tomorrow in the melee?" you said.

The maester snorted as he threaded a needle. "Gods no," he said, "You should be in bed for a week. Fight tomorrow and you'll risk opening the wound, at least. You've lost enough blood as it is. It can only make your situation worse."

The surge of warmth through you was as much the sound of her affection than any milk of the poppy, or so you told yourself.

Behind Linette Alyssa sniffed her favour, where blood and grass had stained it, staring at you.

"We should let Edric rest," Harry said, "My mother is with your father, and offering House Clover all of our support should any of the wretches come forward. My master Ser Jaxon has promised to dismount any Tarly, Peake or Bulwer that crosses his lance."

Good, you thought. Though you had a mind to do such yourself.

They left you in the care of the maester, and when he was done the maester and septa left, leaving you to rest in the cool of the tent.

Your chest was sore and unnaturally tight, the wound covered in a poultice.

You would do it yourself. Gormon Peake had not yet had his due.

It was the sensible thing to do, but a dark storm of need raged through you, a need for what you weren't sure, only that you were sure you would find it in the press of horseflesh and the clash of steel, the stink of sweating, bleeding boys all warring to hurt one another. That's where you would find it.

Outside was still dark when you found your mail shirt and gauntlets, your shield, then to where the horses were hitched, you sat to dress. Pulling on your mail was difficult, you were fighting against the unpleasant, painful tightness on your chest, and you gave up on the second effort.

"Here," a voice said from the dark behind you.

Alyssa was waiting. She stepped out, face ghostly pale between her unbound dark hair, her eyes still gently bruised. Her kiss, you thought. Your pulse quickened as a terrible excitement took hold of you.

You stepped to her and in surprise she took half a step back, but you grabbed her, a hand on the back of her waist, and drew her back. Last year you had been of a height, now you were a finger length taller, and she had to look up to look you in the eye. She pushed at your chest, a fear bright in her pale grey eyes.

"What are you doing Edr-"

Your kiss stole your name from her lips, making the last word a whimper, your wicked sister frozen in your arms. It was a kiss like you'd never given before, and felt her hard breathing on your cheek. If it ended there it would have been enough, but when you tried to pull back, your kiss parting with the flush of her gasp, she grabbed you by the head, and intwining her arms behind your neck pulled herself up onto her toes to return it, her lips parting so you felt the wet push of her tongue against yours.

It was wet. It was clumsy. It was terrifying. The heat of her mouth, the heat of her against you. You hardened in a way you shouldn't. Not for your sister.

The Gods, the Gods would curse you both. Evil, you thought, this was evil, evil and wicked. To want her, to want her how a man wanted a woman. To want that wicked girl. You grabbed her throat and squeezed, but did not break the kiss.

When the kiss at last broke you were shivering, strange tears in your eyes. She shivered too, staring strange with tears of her own. Both of you panting like dogs run hard.

"You shouldn't lose your kiss to a stranger," you said, voice as quivering as your body.

"Then don't lose," she said, then whimpering fled, a hand pressed over her mouth.

Gods what a foul creature you were. Even your father saw it in you. A hand of the Stranger, he had said. And now you were seven hells bound.

You grabbed Linette's favour and tried to fill your mind with thoughts of her, but all your thoughts turned to Alyssa as you fixed Chestnut's barding. Her wicked little grin, the shock in her eyes, the taste of her tongue. Thoughts that wouldn't go no matter how hard you prayed.

Stranger take you, Maiden curse your name, Mother hide her head in shame.

Mounting your horse you looked back to the dark Clover camp. If any had seen what had happened it could mean your life. But that wasn't what you looked for.

No, you had something else to focus on. The melee, you had to focus. Your chest strained even now. In the thick of battle you didn't doubt it would open.

But if you could win, it was worth the danger.

You heeled Chestnut into a trot, riding to the tourney ground to where your friends would be waiting.

All these beautifully written characters and wonderful, thoughtful use of the setting...wasted on this gaggle of autists and thirsty coomers.

long term plan? don't really have one beyond trying to win the melee, to be honest I see Linette as more of a summer romance kind of thing personally but I do understand why anon's are interested in her in comparison to Alyssa, my earlier post regarding both being possible was an attempt to open the conversation up, not necessarily my preference and since Alyssa is our halfsister a traditional relationship is of course off the table and sooner or later if the relationship continues to progress they are going to realise that.

I get you are incredibly pessimistic about her but I have to reiterate we have been making unsubtle progress on devloping a less misanthropic relationship with her to the point that we have reached here which has been a moment of uncomparable honesty.
