On New Year's Eve, 1999, a computer was left abandoned in an old building. As the clock struck midnight, the system was frozen in place forevermore, never to be restored. The world went on around it, and the sole monitor glowed all by its lonesome, miraculously powered day in and day out.

Till the day that life sprung up within its digital world, to thaw its icy heart.

Every last bit of the frozen world's data comprises a pale blue disc. No new material is introduced into the inactive system, but there's enough fragmented data to feed life for untold ages, so long as they possess the means to thaw it out and break it down. And miraculously, such life has evolved on the icy surface of the Digital World. Three primary organisms have popped up, and these infant AIs make use of whatever they can find to eke out a living in this hostile environment.

The most important creatures are the Demeras. Born from the ambient temperature of the chugging CPU, their bodies are the sole source of heat in this wasteland, and they naturally melt the ground that they slowly meander across. From this melted Ice data, usable information is exposed and consumed by them, allowing them to grow in size and turn hotter. After growing enough, they halve themselves to form offspring, then continue along their way. As time passes, the world will surely be carved out by them.

Next up are the Mekos, creatures who are unable to process the raw data that the Demeras bring to the surface. So instead, they detect the light that their bodies give off and hunt them down, using them for sustenance. They excrete energy in the form of Electric data, and release it from their tails when they're full. Offspring are made by combining code into a new, smaller entity. To conserve energy in this frozen hellscape, they typically only move when they sense the light from a Demera, and they detect mates by the momentary flashes from their excretions.

Likewise, the Yukes cannot digest data, nor can they stand to approach the burning Demeras. Instead, they use their ears to detect the movement of the Mekos, who cannot perceive them. They function as ambush predators, and as nothing preys on them, they are the de facto Apex Predator of the Digital World at the moment. They also reproduce in the same manner as Mekos.

What's an Evogame?

>An Evogame is a style of game on /qst/ where a few starter creatures are given, and anons make edits to the drawing to represent them changing and gaining traits as the generations go by.

>Evogames typically have events over time to spice them up, like new environmental stimuli, mass extinctions, and other things to shake up and influence how creatures evolve.

For those who play these regularly, it's just the standard fare.

Don't evolve your own creatures/submissions. It's meant to be a collaborative game. Don't evolve the same creature too many times in a row either, try to mix it up a bit.

>Give a little description when you make a new evo, so that we know what the change is meant to be.

>Don't make the change huge, or too abrupt when posting. I reserve the right to veto a species if it suddenly does something too bizarre or major out of nowhere.

>Save as a .png, and please try to make Evos that people can work on. If a species is absolutely beautifully drawn, but nobody can add anything to it because of complexity, it's likely to go extinct.

The Demablast's detection organ has transformed into a cone that locates any electric data around it. It responds by automatically firing at the source until it departs. This keeps most Mekos away from it. However, due to not having proper differentiation, it ends up shooting at Electric Demeros as well, and this antisocial behaviour stops it from being part of the tribes.

experiment: Crackelzap Electric Data in Demzapkis are entered into a self replicating fission making their composition more unstable for more benefits like levitation or more powerful electrical attacks from its antenna some beings like to think Crakelzaps can teleport this is false they can just move their data from A to B incredibly fast this action however drains them. being in this unstable state means they no longer need electrical data to feed from but their Data fission needs replacement constantly so they constantly forage for data scraps of weak digiforms to feed on, their feeding method is also changed they can CRACK out the data they need. their composition is also weak so a stronger digiform can destroy them

Conclusion: this Digiform is both predator and prey of everything. uses electrical data fission to fend of their need for energy, capable of rapid data movement.

Gonna run a world event/development update tomorrow. Lots of great evos so far! Been loving it.

>>5519232

I think I need to add a new rule though, since I don’t want it to become a precedent. Once a creature branches off from an ancestor, if it’s able to crossbreed, it can only be with the line that it evolved from in the first place. Not completely different branches. My reasoning for this is that I feel it goes against the spirit of an Evogame to constantly have two separate branches recombine so that they can have their best traits put back into one organism. The point of splitting into different lines is to have diversity and play around with all sorts of mechanics and ideas, instead of having a singular superorganism that does it all.

Exceptions can probably be made later for fucky reproductive methods, like parasitism or corrupting bits of another creature’s code. But for now, >>5521105
the Denkloud will be the Final creature allowed to crossbreed and combine traits like that.

The viral data has taken over the Cranimera's consciousness, becoming Cranivera, and with that the means of consuming data has changed.

Instead of burning data to break it down, it is taken in and dissolved. Easily dissolved data becomes nutrients, while the rest is spat back out as infected sludge.

Although less efficient, this method of consumption is faster and leaves traps that infect other creatures and serve as a more effective means of "reproduction".

EVENT:

There are several Digiforms who transform the world through their presence. Slowly but surely, the plain disc of Ice Data is being shaped. New ecosystems and types of terrain are starting to emerge!

>>5519423

When tribes of Demera gather, the ground they inhabit begins melting and thawing. There are [MELTED OASES] scattered around the world now, in little pockets. The solid data has been freed from the ice, forming pools that organisms can delve right into. Demeras can feed from the surface, but their flames make it difficult to go deeper into the fluid in their current iteration. Organisms who cannot consume raw data are not able to feed from the Oases, but the pre-melted food attracts plenty of Demera, and thus predators.

>>5520760
>>5520768

Since they've started recalling the positions of their home bases [SNOWSKI VILLAGES] form when large groups of Yuskibuilds construct homes in proximity of each other. These are havens for the predators, and prey species ought to stay far from them. Stretches of Ice Data extend across their territories, forming basic structures and shapes. However, the plentiful data might attract Demera, who melt them with their presence.

>>5521058
>>5521849

Near the Northernmost edge of the Digital World, the flaming Cranivera and Cranimera have unearthed a larger pocket of data from the ice. Unfortunately, this data seems to be dangerous. The [VIRAL SEA] is similar to the Oases, but is filled with malignant data, and will only expand outwards as the edges continue to melt. Creatures who feed from it end up corrupted, damaged, or dead, and it's a region where Viral types can congregate.

All three of these biomes are minor for now, but as their residents continue to adapt, they'll end up expanding in scope.

With a great heave, the Digital World experiences a series of tremors that collapse Yuskibuild homes and send digiforms scampering across the ice in terror!

Since large swathes of the frozen data are being melted up and freed, the computer is gradually regaining its functions. Deep beneath the surface, processes tick by at a glacial pace.

POSSIBILITY:
>Should Demeras continue to melt the surface and create large bodies of free-floating data, the ancient CPU that the Digital World is hosted on will begin recovering from its freeze.

BIOME:
One of the latest applications to have been activated before the Y2K freeze is a simple storage folder. It's now visible in the middle of a sea of data. The [NEW FOLDER] biome is different from the chunks of Earth Data that have been brought to the surface. Creatures entering this biome find themselves shunted into a subterranean layer of the digital world. Within the folder is... Yet another folder? And within that, another. Who knows what lies buried within this virtual treasure trove, and how deep into the system it leads? Either way, the underground pocket dimension provides a new space for beasts to colonize.

EXTINCTION:
Most creatures have adapted to avoid predation, or to capture prey with increased efficiency. There is an ongoing arms race between numerous species. The ones least adapted are eventually snuffed out, either starving to death or hunted into extinction. Many Digiforms have gone EXTINCT and can no longer be evolved. Creatures adjacent to a Red X are considered threatened, as their future generations are likely superior to them in some manner.

A date error has, fortunately, caused the timer to be delayed by several days. Time has caught up to the Digiforms, however. With new, more powerful ones roaming the frozen world, those who are unable to adapt are snuffed out or integrated. Yukigrabs who aren't differentiated enough from their inferior cousins are outcompeted by the numerous more competent predators. Yuskibuilds who can't keep track of their own homes wander off and die. By now, there are enough hunters that even the explosive and flaming Mekos can be hunted into extinction if they don't create powerful tools of their own. The Mekorupt phenomenon eventually ceases to be, as specimens that get infected perish to predators or root themselves in the rare islands of Earth Data. Demeratribes without leaders find themselves lost, and are eventually hunted down if they don't fuse with another tribe.

Unfortunately, some lineages have completely ended. The solitary Demablast is gone, though its predecessor has been rescued by the tribes. The Yukigrab failed to hang in there. Finally, the Knights who integrate the corrupted Meko 'walnuts' find that exposure to the leaking viral data destabilizes their combined bodies, leading to extinction.

POSSIBILITY

While such data can be found in small pockets in the oases, this large one is where creatures like >>5541201 >>5533176 >>5532990 >>5527754 can flourish. As time passes, the island will grow larger and larger, in conjunction with the POSSIBILITY.

BIOME

The >>5532999 Densteps have, remarkably, created a new biome through their interference. There now exists solid matter high in the sky, allowing airborne creatures to rest. These plateaus, however, create opportunities for predators to do the same- not to mention the fact that they link to the caves far below, allowing creatures to cross between them. Digiforms native to each area tend to not fare well in the other, but they're capable of hunting or gathering resources for a period. The [FOLDER CLOUDS] have been established, and every so often, data flakes out of them, sprinkling the land below with information that can be consumed.

There are now many notable biomes in the Digital World. I'd like to encourage players to attach text to future evolutions, mentioning what Biome they're part of.

World map update! And biome descriptions. The Possibility is just a quest I've set out. But as always, performing changes and creating specific creatures can lead to snowballing effects that make new biomes and affect the whole world. Here are the descriptions, some of them might provide inspiration.

>[OVERWORLD]- Frigid cold, which can tank the processing speed of creatures who lose adaptations to it. There's very little input of data to this primary area, which comprises almost the entire known world. Demeras melt the ice, which provides usable data for them. The rest of the food chain revolves around this face. At first, it seemed like there was too much ice to make an impact, but more and more is being melted away.

>[MELTED OASES]- 'Oceans' of melted data. Demera tribes are usually the cause of the melting, as their combined presence causes the data to return to a usable state for them. They tend to hover over the surface of these oases, able to freely feed from the data that melts below them. However, ones who are fire-affiliated are unable to dive beneath the water-like data.

>[EARTHERN ISLAND]- The biggest landmass of Earth Data. It's far away from the folders, and has plenty of space for ecosystems to start up. It began when Mekorupt were planted by the PK Knights, and purged their Viral Data in the form of fruits. No Viral Infestation has started up on the island yet, but it's a possible path that might destroy this peaceful, warmer paradise.

>[SNOWSKI VILLAGES]- While the Demera tribes mostly destroy Ice Data to make their homes, the Yuskibuild lineage builds theirs out of the very same material. These villages are sprawling masses of data, completely occupied by predators.

>[VIRAL SEA]- The location where Viral Data was first unearthed. Hostile to non-viral lifeforms, and dangerous creatures stalk the surface to partake in the data. They commonly assault creatures along its fringes. Predators arrive to feast on them, but at the moment, are unable to keep them from expanding.

>[NEW FOLDER]- Unearthed by a mass melt, this folder creates a subterranean system of branching folder paths, extending not downwards, but into a whole other dimension. It's not made of Earth Data at all, and this directory is filled with information that creatures can use and consume. Some might even be able to use the Folder Data for their personal purposes, such as Chainwyrms who occupy entire folders and B1T Meks who stack themselves in them.

>[FOLDER CLOUDS]- Pieces of the folder have been carved out and placed in the air, due to their iconic property of floating in place. Notably, they also serve as portals on occasion, allowing Digiforms to travel out of the caves and appear in mid air. As there's technically no gravity or force FORCING creatures to stick on the ice, this opens up a whole new avenue if they don't starve. The same applies, with aerial creatures now being able to access caves.

The tribal Jawmera rulers develop crowns of bone to radiate heat out of. Via signals embedded in temperature fluctuations, they take command of their villages. The various members of the tribe have began to develop further as well, forming specialized units that carry out different purposes.

Firstly, the scoopers now double up as breeders. They hold data shared from tribe members with optimal genetics, then produce infant clones or combine the data with that of other members. With plenty of snow melted, they no longer need to pre-digest data.

Then there's the shooters, who used to be the ones melting ground. By combining data with generations of Jawkings, they've upgraded themselves with superior vision, as well as the ability to form tubes of bones to fire their projectiles out of.

Joining them in defense is the former Demeros, who use their speed to stab at Mekos that come too close.

There are no oceanic predators for them at the moment.

Mutations have finally broken the lifeform's splitting limit, resulting in unexpected effects. The flames have reproduced inward, not outward, merging into a fractal that bleeds into another dimension.

This ethereal flame has new, strange properties. Although it burns hotter than ever, Angelmera can spread their flames through snow and objects without ever burning anything other than their target. They pierce through all manner of armor, eating their fill of data and leaving the rest as untouched husks and corpses.

Thread is nearly off the board. Thanks you guys who've played so far! I think I'll try and do an event to decide what species are preserved for the next thread. If you're still here, I'll make it happen in a day or so, that's all the time we have before it gets archived, I think? Not all creatures will make it as starters for the next thread.

POSSIBILITY ACHIEVED!

>SYSTEM FUNCTIONALITY: 4%
>ERROR: 0.45 GB REMAINING
>INDEXING FILES...

The continued growth of creatures on the frozen world have filled up the computer's disk space. However, the increase in Demeras have also led to the operation system being freed up, as more and more of the integral operation Data is released back into the environment. As it regains this partial functionality, the first thing the Digital World does is attempt to condense its files and save space. Unfortunately for the Digiforms, however, THEY are these files.

This will be the final event for this thread, and will run until the thread dies on its own. I've archived it on suptg already, would appreciate voting it up!

[INDEXING BEGINS]

The awakening Digital World finds that many of the extant creatures are extremely closely related to each other. In order to preserve the maximum amount of variance while freeing up junk data, it removes intermediary steps. Creatures will have their data analysed to find an ancestral common point, where they possessed a weaker form. Upon growing enough, these forms will refer to data from the environment and develop into adult stages.

Lineages that do not possess great enough variance in stages and body types to trigger this checkpoint system will be EXTINCT as the world continues to develop. The rest will be linked through this metamorphosis system. Example to follow.

This means that the starters for the next thread will be condensed into lineages that transform directly into one another, skipping entire evolutionary steps. Once thread 2 begins (ETA to be confirmed), the digivolution lineages can be disrupted and changed freely, it's just a beginning guideline.
>>
File: Lineage.png (118 KB, 2000x2000)
118 KB

>>5559981

To avoid starter bloat next thread, the System will prioritise creatures with distinct stages between them. This means that if a Digiform does not have a clear differentiation in stages (An analogue for in-training, rookie, champion), it will be archived and removed. Until the thread ends naturally, new evolutions are able to be made, in order to establish stages and preserve lineages. Already Extinct creatures may be used as the starter base, and transform into their descendants.

You guys are also free to suggest what these lineages could be, as we have lots of branching species now. If there are two different base stages of Mekos, for example, that turn into different evolutionary trees, then the ancestral connection to those base species will be cut, and they'll be considered different starters genetically.

Yeah, I'll pick three starters most appropriate to Xros evo into the Knights.

For now, all future evos will affect the way lineages go. There are some that are still not differentiated enough, which will probably go extinct, but can be rescued until the thread dies. I'll make one or two but I don't want to influence what creatures get saved too hard, since I'm Qming.

The Mekoshogun exchanges some offense for defense with it's new polygon armor, composed of rays forming a solid projection. It is especially effective at protecting against viral data, as the polygons act as a buffer for the infection. If a polygon becomes infected, it can be discarded before the infection spreads to the main body.

The Mekoshotgun on the other hand opts for increased firepower. It's central blaster has a particularly wide spread, acting almost like another set of rays - though it's rays that don't last as long but hurt much, much more. The secondary blaster has been turned into a sensory organ, producing a ray that helps in aiming the main blaster.
