Making a shitty isekai quest because I'm bored and want to procrastinate on my school work.

You tripped and fucking died. Fortunately, the gods or whatever the hell manages your world is willing to give you a second chance at life.

>>Who are you?
>Shota. Having barely being enrolled in middle school, your knowledge of the world is incomplete, and your physical abilities are very much left to be desired. The simplicity of a child's mind may prove useful, however.
>Adolescent. You know a thing or two about life, but your skills in the adult world are still in development. Though uncertain, you have a great potential for talent.
>Sh-NEET. Shut-in NEET who doesn't do anything but sit around, play games, and contribute negatively to society. Despite not having developed anything useful in the modern world of Earth your different views of the world may make you flourish where others falter.
>Professor (specify what major). You are an expert in your craft and have published near a hundred papers at the renowned R1 university you work at. Students adore you, and academics expect no less from someone at your school.
>Artist. You enjoy many things. Guitar, piano, dancing, painting, sculpting - you are well entrenched in the realm of arts. Unfortunately, because you enjoyed so many things you were just not good enough to get anywhere in life with these things. You lived a frugal life, being broke all the time.
>Write in

>>What are your religious beliefs?
>Staunch atheist. You despise anything spiritual and mock those who pray to the nonexistent.
>Chill atheist. You don't really believe in religion but respect the belief of those who do.
>Agnostic. You don't have much an opinion on this matter.
>Seasonal church-goer. You believe you hold the beliefs of your religion but don't really keep an effort to participate in it.
>Staunch thesist. You have a strong belief in religion and make your best efforts to include it in every part of your life.
>Spiritual hippie. You're one of those people, the ones that don't believe in the conventional abrahamic religions and sit in a circle of steaming incense.

>>What world were you isekai'd in?
>Low fantasy.
>Mid fantasy.
>High fantasy.
>Alternate reality where magic exists.
>Magic with guns.

>>What state were you isekai'd in?
>You were born anew in this other world.
>You were born again but grow up the same.
>Your original body right before the time of death is transported to the other world, and you do not understand the language.
>Your original body right before the time of death is transported to the other world, and each language is interpreted for you.
>Your soul is transferred to an inhabitant of that world, and you have no recollection of their memories (no language).
>Your soul is transferred to an inhabitant of that world, and you receive all the memories of their life.

>>What gender were you in your first life?
>Male.
>Female.
>Hermaphrodite.

God, everything is blurry. What happened to me? When I hit my head on the ground I thought I was going to die. I can barely move my body. Actually, where am I? I don't remember the last time I was in a room with purely brown walls. Hold on a sec, am I being held?
You look up and see the unfocused image of a woman - brown hair, light skin. Oh right, that's what happened... From the view of someone literally just born a normal sized human seems massive to you. You don't have time to dwell on that before you fall into a deep slumber, however.

After a seemingly few months of seeing blurred images and indecipherable sounds you become fully cognisant and are able to perceive your environment. You can't do much however, so the time in your infanthood passes rather boringly.

Around seven years have passed. You've picked up the language to be able to communicate basic ideas but of course still have much to improve on. It's structured similar to English though, so you don't think it'll be too difficult. Here's what you've learned about the world so far. You live in a country called Sofiana, and you live near the southern border, next to the country of Emue. The town you live in is a moderately sized farming village, and is also a small hub that travellers can stop by at. Your father is a farmer, while your mother takes care of you (their only child) and the house. They are both light skinned with straightish, brown hair.

You spent most of your time learning basic chores and the language, but unfortunately due to your parents being relatively poor farmers the study of literature was scarce. Everything is pretty medieval in nature. You miss the convenient technology of your old world, but have come to accept the unhygenic nature of your new life. You haven't seen an ounce of magic or anything like that. I didn't even get my driver's license yet...

While dawdling over the thoughts of the past you notice the sounds of footsteps and horses beginning to increase outside. You exit your house to see what the commotion was.

Several guards stand around a lady dressed in armor, unlike anyone else you've seen before. She opens a scroll of paper and reads it.

"We will now commence the bi-decadely magic potency test. Children seven or older, please line up."

Magic... potency test? This seems interesting. Your parents send you out with the others to enter the line. The woman holds some sort of technical instrument. She holds it up to the first child, and a very faint glow is emmitted from it.

"Next!"

After a while it is finally your turn. The lady puts the instrument a few inches from your face.

>>This roll will determine your magic potency.

The instrument lets out a moderate glow, about as much as a nightstand lamp.

The lady crouches down to match your height.

"It seems we have one with potential here."

She lets out a slight grin.

"Tell your parents that you were chosen to be taken to the royal capital, Sofia. It is a great honor to be one of the chosen. You will be taught everything from arts and courtly manners to magic. Come tomorrow at noon in front of the town hall, and we will leave."

You go and tell your parents. They are shocked at first, but after a few moments they seem proud to have a child with potent magic. They help you pack clothes, along with a water sack and a blanket. You don't have any other possessions.

Should you try and pack anything else? (can pick multiple)
>Nothing. What would I need, anyways?
>A hatchet. Dad has an extra one located in storage. You're not sure if you'd be able to carry it though, let alone use it...
>Wood. I don't know, maybe it'll be useful? Seems like it'd be heavy.
>A stick. Looks sturdy enough.
>Assorted food. Might start smell pretty soon though.

>More about magic.
Magic is rare in this world, so those with anything somewhat potent are highly sought out for. And of those, most can only do but the basic things you typically imagine in a fantasy world. Currently, magic potency is known to occur randomly in each person and most can only get good at controlling it to a certain point. Maybe that can change...?

You sort through some sticks in your yard, swing a few around, and find one that seems fairly sturdy and won't burden a seven year old.

You ask your parents for some food, and luckily your father had smoked some steaks. Nice! You pack it in a separate sack.

You say goodbye to everyone in the village. Though your connections were weak, you wonder what will come of the other children and villagers.

After all that, you rest and wait until the next day.

The sun is now fully in the sky. You take your things and head for the town hall. The lady from yesterday and around a couple dozen soldiers are stationed around three wagons. You see no other children.

"Welcome." The woman says to you. "Apologies for not introducing myself properly. My name is Sara Derekoi, and I am the the lieutenant of one of our country's platoons." A soldier a little taller from the rest stands besides her. "This is Dreyvid, my second in command. He will answer any questions you have on the way to Sofia. Now, let us depart."

You hop on the the second wagon along with several soldiers, and sit in the middle. Dreyvid sits across from you. The wagon moves, and you depart for Sofia!

Drevid briefs you on your journey. He shows you a small map.

"The large road is the route we will be taking to Sofia. First, we will stop at the city of Eldirne, then Serdets, and finally Sofia. There shouldn't be any monsters, but just in case, this is what this platoon is for. Do you have any questions?"

"Check our status, load up on supplies if necessary, take a break from traveling, things like that."

"Tell me about Eldirne and Serdets."

"Eldirne is located between the East and West Eldirne Forests. Due to the forests' abundant resources it has become a large city and manufacturer of many goods. It is also a waypoint for towns like yours and the southern lands. Serdets is a large collection of farming villages, it being next to the East Sofian plains. Serdets produces much of east Sofiana's food, some of which can only be obtained from Serdets. It is also west to the Great Forest of Esouf, but unlike Eldirne is quite a bit farther away because of the dangers that lurk within it."

You look closer at the map.

"What are those smaller roads I see?"

"Ah, those are alternate routes sometimes used by travellers. At the forks are intermediate towns. We sometimes use them in an emergency, but that doesn't happen often."

Your map has been updated!

After lots of talking you arrive at Eldirne. By now it is well into the night. Your caravan stops for the day.

What should you do?
>Some of the soldiers are going out to eat at the tavern. Ask if you can join them.

Actually I'll throw this roll out.

The soldiers seem a little surprised at your question and go to ask Sara for permission.

"Sure. You'll be with lots of guards so I don't think it'd be much trouble. The food in storage isn't that great anyways."

The guards walk in a sort of elliptical around you, making sure you don't get lost. The tavern isn't far for the wagon, presumably to be convenient for travelers.

The tavern is exactly as you'd imagine in a fantasy world, all woody and that. It's not very crowded being this late into the night, but still a little more than you'd expect.

"Alright kid, pick anything you want. The food's cheap here."

The waitress comes over to your table.

"Whaddya want?"

The soldiers give their orders with ease, as if they'd done this a hundred times. But... there was no menu to be seen.

"Um... I'll just have what he's having," you say to the waitress as you nod to the guy next to you.

You are served what almost looks like a platter of turkey and scrambled eggs, but tastes almost completely different. The "turkey" tasted like if it was marinated in gravy for a week straight yet seemed free of any season, while the "eggs" tasted like ground beef if it was clumped up more.

"Excuse me, what is this dish made out of?"

"Oh, uh, I dunno."

The waitress happened to be busy with some new patrons that had entered so unfortunately you were left wondering what it is you just ate. It was certainly better than what you ate in your town, but quite different from food you had in your previous life. You head back to the wagon and rest for the night.

You learned more information about this world!

The next day your caravan sets off for Serdets.

"The monsters in this area are more prevalent because of the forests nearby so be on your guard."

ffs why didn't the roll work? Whatever those two options are pretty similar anyways.

"As a chosen, you are granted special privileges in the Kingdom of Sofiana. You will be educated at the Royal Sofiana Academy of Sofia, where you will learn magic, literature, the arts, and others of the sort. Eventually, you will graduate and serve Sofiana. The jobs vary widely, so I will not go into details. Given how generous Sofiana is by letting you attend Royal Sofi for free, you are obligated to only serve Sofiana, and you must obey the kingdom's orders. Although some may see this as limiting their freedom I personally would have no qualms with it if I were a chosen given you'd be working directly for Sofiana. Being one of lower class however, this does not mean that you will be treated as a noble. Make sure you understand that."

"You mentioned the Royal Sofiana Academy of Sofia. Are there any other Royal Sofiana Academies?"

"Yes, but those are mainly restricted to nobles. Royal Sofi is the only one endorsed to accept chosens as students."

You gained more information about this world!

Another long day of travelling and you arrive at Serdets. This time however, the sun is just starting to set. Indeed, in accordance with Dreyvid's description, upon entrance of the outskirts of Serdets you are able to observe farms and livestock as far as the eye can see. The pastures you saw while looking out of a car window pale in comparison.

The caravan seems to be heading towards an area with much more buildings.

"That is the city center." Dreyvid explains. "It is where farmers and other merchants conduct business. People come from far away just to get food from Serdets. Without it, Serdets would simply be several small, disconnected villages."

As the buildings come into a closer sight, they remind you much more of a typical city, similar to Eldirne. The difference is that there are a massive amount of merchants. You see all kinds of stuff - vegetables, fruits, raw meat, cooked meat, fish, cooking tools, farming tools, travelling supplies, weapons - they really have it all here.

The caravan finds an empty parking space and prepares for the night. The soldiers don't seem to want to go out again like last time, and you don't have any money.

You stroll around the cobble streets of Serdet's city center. You see even more strange tools and items than when you were on the wagon. It's hard to imagine what all these niche things could be used for, but you think you have an idea.

In the corner of your eye you see something peculiar in this midst of busyness. Unlike most of the stores here who act like street vendors this was an established building. Part of its walls is glass, like the kind you see at a mall. You step closer to get a better view.

No one seems to be shopping here. The shop itself seems empty of employees even. For a brief second, the angle of the light coming from the falling sun lets you see a glimmer coming from the far inner wall. Focusing your eyes, you see a sword in a display case. There is a jewel embedded in the guard. The position in which it is wouldn't normally catch someone's eye.

"Huh..."

"C'mon now. The sun is halfway down."

You look to your side. Indeed, it is starting to get a red tint.

After a long walk in Serdets, you feel refreshed being able to move around and having seen new things.

You learned new information about this world!

Luckily, your stroll wasn't so long to creep far into the night. You unwrap your blanket and rest for the next day.

Today is the last period of time you will be in this wagon. Next destination: Sofia. Yet again, Dreyvid sits across from you. What should you ask him?

>Nothing.
>What are the nations beside ours?
>What monsters are there in this area?
>How rare is it for children to be chosen?
>What should I be expected to do after we arrive at Sofia?

"When we arrive in Sofia you will be kept with the army the first night. You happen to be one of the last to be chosen so orientation will happen the next day, where you will be introduced into Royal Sofi and assigned a dorm. Since you are of a lower lineage and young of age you are not expected to have refined manners, but please be on your best behavior. On orientation day you will be given an overview of the school, and the next a tour of Sofia. There is only so much they can go over in two days so you must learn the nuances of the academy and the city yourself. The instructors have a certain tolerance because you are new but act impudently and you will be punished."

"What can I do to make an impression at my orientation?"

Dreyvid thinks for a moment, and responds. "At the orientation itself, there isn't really much to be impressed at, since there is little participatory roles. However, in the days after, there will be tests to gauge your talent in various areas. Perhaps you may be able to stand out if you do well in those."

You learned more information about Royal Sofi!

"We're here."

You had not noticed but suddenly you were passing under a massive gate! If you had to guess it'd have to be two, no three stories tall. The entrance of Sofia was brilliant. It may not have been as crowded as Serdets's market, but nonetheless it was as crowded as a capital city from your world. If you were a medieval historian, you'd probably be in bliss right now. Brick and stone covered every floor and building. Despite being lit by only the sun the city was surprisingly luminous. Your marveling at the city was interrupted when the wagon stopped at a large, gray stony building.

"This is the southern army barracks," Sara announces. "You will be shown to a room where you will be kept for the night."

You are shown to a room with six bunk beds, each with a set of three mattresses stacked on top of each other. Very barracks like indeed. Luckily, there seems to be only one other person here, and they're sleeping. There still quite a bit of light out.

What should you do?
>Sleep. I want to get as much energy as I can for orientation tomorrow.
>Wake the other child up.
>Ask if you can explore the city.
>Sneak out and explore the city.
>Explore the barracks.
>Write in

You decide to sleep. If there's anything that could prepare you for another day it'd be rest. So under the sheets you go. Being that you always had a sleeping spot to yourself, you've grown fond of the top bed of bunk beds. It is certainly a unique experience sleeping this high, especially since you're above not only one but two other mattresses. Thoughts of bunk beds leave your mind as you drift away into a slumber...

Dawn comes, and you're surprised you slept this long considering how much you dozed during your travels. Perhaps you didn't have as much energy left as you thought. You sit up and stretch. Your eyes wander to the opposite corner of the room, on one of the lower beds. You see a figure, draped in a long coat, sitting perpendicular to the side of the bed. Is that the other child?

Sara comes to retrieve the two of you, and you are each led to separate wagons. The carriage doesn't move for very long. You bet you could've just walked, in fact. On exit of your transport you are immediately met with a sharp contrast to the stony buildings of before. A castle? That thought is perished when you see an actual castle further beyond the building in front of you. This must be the academy. Several series of stairs lead to a pair of grand doors, almost as big as the gate you saw coming into the city. Would anybody even be large enough to make use of that space,, you wonder. Sara and Dreyvid walk beside you as you walk up the winding steps. The body of a 7 year old tires quite easily, and by the time you're at the top you're already breathing somewhat hard.

"This is as far our travels go," Sara declares. "Farewell, and have a safe journey through academia."

Sara and Dreyvid walk away, and you're left to catch your breath for a few seconds. Once you do, you walk ahead to the already open massive doors, where a pretty, golden light glows. A red carpet lines the walkway. The inside of the academy is very castle-like indeed, with all the fancy ornaments, decorations, and such, as well as more than a few suits of armor along the walls. Though, this isn't a castle. Several children stand single file in front of a cloaked figure positioned on a pedestal. As you enter the line the other child from the southern barracks follows behind you.

Many minutes pass, and finally it is your turn. "State your name." A voice that is neither male or female as far as you could tell questions you. By the way, what IS your name?

>Use the name from your old life [let QM pick]
>Use the name from your current life [let QM pick]
>Write-in

Oh boy, I really killed this thread while I was gone, huh? I don't really want to decide on this with one reply, so here's a new thread to rekindle interest in this quest:
