After finding Jesse at Pascaline’s delicious cheese stall, together you return to the Bus Stop to wait for Grace & Mirjam to come by. The time limit you agreed upon is about to expire, and you hope your friends don’t arrive late, because you don’t want your guest here to get angry.

Is he a guest? Is this your bubble dimension? Or should you treat it like another place in the world and not act like you own it? Like you’re in another town and that’s it. Nobody owns a town. What a little shit you are, thinking you own this place. You didn’t even build it. Wilma did. It’s Wilma’s big ass bubble. Or is it San Wich’s? A collaborative effort, maybe? You can’t get a bubble this big alone, unless with the help of Jackey Frosties. That’s still teamwork. The world around you is made by many factors, circumstances, and collectives— what a wonderful existence. You’ve spent days here and this is the first time you’re wondering about these useless technicalities. Whatever you do, you mustn’t bring this topic to light with Jesse.

“Why are you staring at me like that?” Jesse feels annoyed by your aloof glare.

“Sorry, I was wondering about the philosophical implications of this universe and its nature.” You adjust your glasses while trying to sound smart.

“That’s a rather profound topic.” Jesse likes where this is going.

“And I have no profound comments about it.” You look at the stars. Oh which there are none. Because it’s morning. Except the sun. You don’t want to stare at it or it’ll make you blind. Philonune reminds you, you’re unaffected by its light. Too bad you’re wearing glasses, so if you continue, it’ll melt your face by the ray lights being intensified by the glass. Now you’re wondering if you can stop the melting process… No, you don’t want to do something stupid right now.

“Would you rather talk about something else?” Jesse kicks a rock.

What do you do?

>You have decided that the Tomatoes are missing, look for them!
>Ask Jesse how he reached the Shopping District to be easily found by you.
>Ask Jesse why he got bothered by your staring.
>Kick a rock farther than Jesse did.
>You wanna do something stupid. Try to see if you can stop the light from the sun from melting your face.

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical! There are no Critical Failures anymore!

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

You drag a pebble near with the sole of your shoe. For some reason, you feel compelled to follow Jesse’s lead and kick a rock… farther than he did! Ha! You lied. You didn’t intend to string along, but surpass his pitiful effort! “I don’t know what to talk about.” You answer.

“It doesn’t have to be about anything. We got the more important topics out of the way.” Jesse kicks another rock in a different direction, with less effort than before.

You decide to kick another pebble lying around in the same direction he did… only farther again! “I mean, I don’t know what you’re into. Don’t want to bore you.”

“I’m not picky about topics.” Jesse notices you’re concentrating on another thing. He decides to kick another rock… His best shot so far.

You find another pebble, bigger than his, and launch it WAY farther than his DISHONORABLE attempt. “Well then, I—”

“Are you doing this on purpose…?” Jesse follows the law of threes before interrupting you! He knows it isn’t a coincidence after you have mirrored his moves too many times.

“Me? Kicking a pebble farther than you did? On purpose? Nah.” You’re so aloof you’re throwing him off.

“You’re making it painfully obvious it is the case.” Jesse glares back, having understood you’re being stupid.

“To say I’m doing it on purpose would mean I’m trying, and with your kicking technique… well…” You jeer at Jesse.

“Your provocations aren’t working; you’re only annoying me.” Jesse is a total party pooper.

“Never thought you had what it takes to kick rocks anyway.” You keep poking fun at him.

“You sound so much like…” Jesse stops midsentence because he seems to be annoyed at his own memories. “…Anyway, everyone knows Skipping Rocks is where it's at. Kicking rocks is just absurd, you’ll hurt your feet.”

“The only pain they know is the one from victory.” How do you tone down your own competitiveness?

“There’s a pond big enough for some throws right behind the stop. Are you in?” Jesse decides to go down to your level. Or is he inviting you to his level? Whatever.

What do you do?

Kicking them, throwing them, eating them. Doesn’t matter. You’re the best when it comes to handling rocks since the moment you started caring about it!

“Sure.” You’re going to earn the crown of the best rock dispenser there is in this Bubble World!

“What are we waiting for? Let’s get to it.” Jesse makes haste.

“What’s the hurry?” You don’t know what’s up with him.

“I don’t want to look childish in front of your friends.” Jesse admits as he blushes.

“Don’t sweat it. They’re nice people.” You think what he should sweat about is his lack of rock-throwing skills.

“If you say so…” Jesse doesn’t change his attitude, and throws his rock first…!

1…

2…

3…

4…

5 skips!

That’s a lot!

You think…

You have never done this before. And you’re wrong about your assessment, Jesse is frustrated by his throw.

It’s your turn.

What do you do?

“Count that one as a warm-up.” You give him a thumbs up as you try to find a rock smooth enough for this.

“I didn’t have to convince you, huh?” Jesse didn’t think you’d be nice enough to let him throw again.

“Lemme tell you, I don’t need a second throw though.” You cockily wiggle your eyebrows.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Jesse is confused by your smooth movement, and feels like he’s being the butt of some joke.

“Exactly what I said.” You stop the sweet moves so he doesn’t get confused. “You want me to throw first or what?”

“No. I got this.” Jesse makes his second attempt, and it seems better than the first one!

1…

2…

3…

4…

5…!

6!

T-That’s marginally better than before! He won’t be happy about this one!

You think…

You reiterate, you’ve never done this before. And you’re wrong again, Jesse seems pleased at his throw. You don’t get it, but you’ll have to pretend you do.

“Good one.” You acknowledge something you have little knowledge of.

“Yeah, I suppose.” Jessie doesn’t get praised for this kind of stuff. “Go ahead, surprise me.”

“Fwoh!” You make that rock skip, copying Jesse’s style! It starts bouncing!

1…!

2…!

3…!!

4…!!!

It jumps out of the pond onto the grass. Your pebble started skipping in the middle of the puddle because you’re taller and didn’t skew sideways more.

“You should stand here instead.” Jesse walks away from the pond and points at the grass beneath him.

“You might be right.” You follow his advice and grab a stone. “Second throw time.” You slide the rock like a hypocrite!

It skips on the grass first then sinks into the water. What a disaster.

“I’m sorry.” Jesse feels guilty for not making the right calculations.

You hear Grace and Mirjam’s voices! They noticed you’re here with Jesse and they’re walking here! You need to introduce everyone!

How do you respond?

>“Guess we’re tied.” Joke around.
>“That bounce on the ground counts as a 7th skip. I won.” You technically won the challenge, didn’t you? Or is this not how it works?
>“Doesn’t matter, man.” Dismiss his worries. Act like this doesn’t matter.

What do you do?

>Hug the tomatoes! Then introduce them to Jesse with a gleeful smile! You love those girls!

“Guess we’re tied.” You say in a relaxed and humorous tone.

“If you say so.” Jesse smiles for the first time. He thought you’d go for the petty route and is pleasantly surprised. “Are those the people we were waiting for?” He points at the girls walking down the little hill.

“Yes, and here they come!” You shorten the distance to the pair of tomatoes coming down the high ground behind the bus stop! They both say your name as they approach.

You embrace Grace and Mirjam while spinning them around in your arms! After the swirl is done, you turn to Jesse with one tomato holding one of your arms each.

“Jesse! Let me introduce them! This wonderful girl is Grace!” You raise the arm that Pigtails is holding.

“Hey there! Nice to meet you! You have nice skin.” Grace is acting all bubbly while saying something an alien would.

“H-Hi…” Jesse seems overwhelmed by your showings of affection.

“And this amazing girl is Mirjam!” You raise your other arm! The Ribbon girl isn’t as enthusiastic as her sister.

“…H-Hello.” Mirjam shyly uses your arm to hide part of her face. You forgot she’s shy around strangers.

“Mirjam, he’s Phil’s friend, don’t be all sheepish now!” Grace doesn’t think it’s the time to be embarrassed.

“I-It’s just that he’s glarrrrring at me…” Mirjam looks away, then slowly back at Jesse.

You and Grace share a look then turn to Jessie… He looks off. Like he’s developing a headache in real-time. That’s no good.

Oh right, you forgot that based on their last names these two might be related somehow. It was really difficult for you to make the connection the first time, and since they’re nothing alike personality-wise – it blanked out in your mind.

What do you do?

>Ask for a moment with Jesse to talk one-on-one.
>“You there, buddy? What’s wrong?” Ask immediately what’s the problem. It’d be weird if you left with him for a moment. You don’t want Mirjam to feel guilty or anything.

“Huuuh…” You need to act fast! “Girls, can I have a moment with Jesse, just the two of us, please?” You cordially ask.

“Uhm, sure. But what’s wrong?” Grace wants to know if they did anything wrong.

“Don’t worry, we’re going to talk about some embarrassing guy thing like… uh… hair loss or something.” You come up with the greatest excuse in the whole green world.

“Is that why he wearrrrs a hat?” Mirjam whispers, trying not to be impolite. Jesse is hearing the entire conversation anyway, and each R is like a dagger through his heart.

“Yeah…” You scratch the back of your head.

“Poor kid he’s, like, really too cute to have this problem…” Grace sighs.

“Yeah, it’s a shame.” Mirjam feels bad spiritually. Both girls rub your arms as they look at the poor balding man behind you. This makes Jesse upset even more.

“You kinda look similar, y’know?” Grace notices something she shouldn’t… “Maybe you’ll get bald too, Mirjam!”

“Noo! I don’t want to be bald!” Mirjam is scared now.

“Anyway, I’m going.” You smile at the duo. “Wait for us at the Stop, okay?”

“Sure!” Grace waves her arms around with a cheerful smile.

“Tell him I’m sorrrrrry for making him upset.” Mirjam doesn’t know what she did wrong, but she can’t stop feeling guilty about it.

“You didn’t upset anyone, Mirjam. Relax.” You wink at her before leaving.

You drag Jesse by the shoulder to the middle of the tiny pond, while the girls walk back to the bus stop. You clear your throat and begin asking the key questions, like, huh… uhm…

“You okay, man?” You don’t know how to start this conversation.

No.” Jesse looks dismayed.

You’ve been a psychiatrist (or was it a psychologist? (What’s the difference? (You should know the difference; you have level 4 Knowledge (You think this stat is useless (Maybe you need to stop being so dumb for it to be effective (but shouldn’t it be the other way around? “Jesse, come closer…” You look around to make sure nobody else is listening. “I just realized you and Mirjam might be related. Is she your mom?” You stare him right in the eyes.

Huh…” Jesse snaps out of his trance to become too flabbergasted to respond again. From one pesky status effect to the next one. You can see it in his eyes! It’s totally the case!

“So, uh… YOU SURE YOUR DAD DOESN’T LOOK LIKE ME?!!” You start shaking him! Fuck it! You need answers NOW! Oh god no, you can’t believe it, your baby boy is becoming bald so young!

“W-What in the world are talking about, you moron?!” Jesse fully comes back to his senses and pushes you away. “Of course, my dad doesn’t look like you! Why would he?!”

“Oh… Right… this isn’t time travel, even though I felt like we had a connection for a moment there. I thought my hair bangs were hereditary.” You lost your baby boy in just an instant. You can see your former wife Carol laughing at you in the sky… You don’t want to think about what your other former wife is doing right now.

“That’s not how hair wo— W-Wait, what did you do to Aunt Mirjam?” Jesse just realizes the type of question you made.

“Aunt? Oh! She’s just your aunt… Phew”!” You relax a little.

“Is she though? She looks like her, albeit younger. What’s her full name?” Jesse is trying to adjust himself to this reality.

“Mirjam Rosenberg.” You reveal!

“…She’s my aunt’s counterpart from this anomaly. Now tell me in simple terms what you did to her.”

“We fucked.” You throw it plain as day.

“I wish you didn’t follow my instructions to a tee.” Jesse isn’t sure what he expected.

“Sorry, you asked.” You shrug.

“I’m unsure if I wanted to know now.” Jesse regrets every decision he has made now.

“You asked.” You reiterate.

“I know I did. I can regret it too.” Jesse is sure having complications right now. “Why have a relationship with my aunt?”

“Because I fell in love with her and Grace.” You couldn’t hide you’re blushing.

“That’s fine and good, but what’s next? You’re gonna live here? –Hold on, that other girl too? Wait, SHE’S AUNT GRACE!? THE AUNT GRACE!” Jesse didn’t process it until now.

“Hey, they’re still friends in the present! That gives me fuzzy feelings!” You’re inexplicably happy about this.

“And my aunt is married and has a child too. Does that tickle your funny bone too?” Jesse glares back. It’s not surprising, Present Wilma has a son, right? Why couldn’t Mirjam? Hell, you’d be really surprised if Grace doesn’t have one either! They’re too lovely to be single forever!

“I’m happy for her. After everything I learned about those two, I’d hate if they were living a miserable life in the present.” You get a little too honest.

“You’re actually in love with them…? What in the world…?” Jesse is struggling to believe this.

“Yes.” You admit that you love them very much! Just like with Yu Yan, and Nina and – Wait, you’re realizing this might be a problem. Can you even tell who you love the most?! You’re really fucking stupid! This will backfire one day if you don’t do something about it! Not soon though. You’re busy.

“I’m… not entirely sure how to feel about this. Do you have long-term goals? Or are you a simple moron who doesn’t think before acting?” Jesse finds no good qualities in you.

“My only goal is to save the world from this stupid interdimensional war, of course. What else? It’s pointless to think farther than that, even if I want to.” You shrug.

“That’s… a fair point.” Jesse didn’t see that point of view. “I disagree. Your line of thinking is moronic, but it’s my opinion and nothing more.”

“We can sweat the details later, okay? We’re looking for Robert Auburn, remember?” You need to stop wasting time here.

“You’re right again, I suppose. Just don’t hurt them, understood?” Jesse sighs. “Doesn’t matter the time or place, they’re important to me.”

“They’re important to me too.” You smile.

Back to the main mission now! But… there are some lingering questions you have.

“Sorry for everything, I know it’s been weird and all.” You apologize first for whatever mental fuck this is. You cannot imagine being in his shoes, it’s like if your Mom slept with one of the main antagonists! That’d be… awful to say the least.

“Realistically, you couldn’t have known.” Jesse shakes his head. “Let me rephrase this: I don’t hate you for this.”

“Thanks. One more thing before we go.” You look around to make sure nobody is listening. Now you start whispering. “What’s the name of Mirjam’s kid? Does Grace have one too?” You have a hunch this might be important.

“Yes, both do.” Jesse knows it’ll take less time to answer your questions than to complain about wasting time, after you said you shouldn’t waste it. “Answer me this first: why do you want to know?”

“Curiosity.” You’re honest. “Besides, I think it might be important.”

“Just keep in mind if you do anything to them, I also know people you care about.” Jesse won’t hide that he’s willing to do bad things to keep you at bay.

“Don’t say that. We’re becoming pals, aren’t we?” You feel offended that he might think you have ulterior motives.

“Don’t force it.” Jesse doesn’t want to be your friend yet. “My cousin is named Yukika.”

“Y-Yukika? Yukika Ikeda?” You can’t believe it…! A girl you already kissed?! What kind of Nariko second-rate drama is your life becoming?!

“You watch her dog’s show on Youtube, don’t you?” Jesse guesses. “It’s quite astonishing you remember her name; she always says nobody does even if she stars in most of the videos. Don’t ask me for Chewirton’s autograph, he’s a dog, they don’t do signatures.” Jesse has no idea about paw prints, huh? “You’re looking a little pale.”

“I-It’s nothing. What about Grace’s?” You try to move on to not think about it.

“You know my cousin, don’t y—” Jesse breaks into a cold sweat. “Are you the guy who kissed her…?”

How do you respond?

>“Yeah.” You have nothing to hide. What happened happened.
>“Yeah.” You really want to hide this. But if you’re going to befriend Jesse, you need to be honest.
>“Yeah.” You can’t hide this, so better admit it. Either way, it’s not your fault they’re both cute.

“Yee-haw.” That’s the most condemning Yee-Haw you’ve ever said.

“…” Your sad Yee-Haw left Jesse without words. “Are you the same guy who met her at one of her stupid dog’s meetings?”

“Yee-haw.” You admit it…

“The same guy who saved her skin after she went on following her old bodyguard Flint Masterson instead of staying put like I asked her?” Jesse gets angry thinking about how his cousin ignored him.

“Yee-haw.” You nod.

“The same guy who kept her safe after Judgment Day…?” Jesse sighs.

“Yee-haw...” You nod again.

Jesse is facepalming so hard right now. “Thank you…” He begrudgingly says. “Thank you for helping her out. I mean it. We’re very close. Her stubbornness should’ve gotten the best of her, but she’s alive and well thanks to you.”

“N-No problem.” You don’t know what to say anymore. “She was doing a good job keeping herself safe.”

“Throwing herself out there only made it worse.” Jesse won’t give Yukika any props. “She panicked and went to follow the first flame user she trusted.”

“What about you?” You raise an eyebrow. He might be a loser, but Jesse ain’t no slouch!

“I-It’s complicated...” Jesse gets nervous. He said he’s close with her, so there are 2 options, Jesse might be lying (which you doubt) or…

“You haven’t told her you have a flame, have you?” You ask. Hey, is that your Knowledge activating to realize the contradiction? No? This doesn’t have anything to do with it? What a useless stat.

“…Keep it quiet.” Jesse wants you to keep his secret. What happens in the Bubble stays in the Bubble...

“Okay, let’s move on.” You scratch the back of your head. “What’s the name of Grace’s child?”

“Children. She has 4 children. The oldest daughter is named Carol, nex–”

“Carol? Carol Sung?” You don’t like this one bit anymore. Your ex-wife too?!

“H-How’d you know?” Jesse is floored by how quickly you put things together. “Are you a fan of YUNG-P?”

But Carol doesn’t have Grace’s assets! How can this be?!

How do you respond?

>“She’s my ex-wife.” You have a complicated story.
>“You know she’s a flame user, right?” You want to make sure where Jesse falls into the grand scheme of things. Did he play a part in the cult?
>“No.” Be dry.

“You know she’s a flame user, right?” And your ex-wife, but you don’t want to overload Jesse with more nonsense. Either way, having a limit now feels pretty stupid after everything you have told him so far.

“Are you serious?” Jesse isn’t doubting the sanctity of the idol, but needs you to confirm.

“I have told you the truth to a fault, haven’t I?” You remind him how uncomfortable you have made things.

“One of those pesky rumors had to be true….” Jesse believes you and hates the fact he does. “None of the others made any sense.”

“Why?” You’re curious to know more about that imaginary wine-drinking girl.

“She’s simultaneously part of The Cult of Chernobog, K’s Group, The White Flames, The Red Flames, The Future Club, The Rainbow flames, The Flying Crocs, The Assembly, The True Assembly, The Fearsome Five, The White Honey Badgers, The Golden Sword, the Bear Claw, la Fraternité de Squelettes de Cuivre, Psi Xi Pi, and also a government shill, a former Host of Rebellion terrorist, an OSU sympathizer, a NU spy, a Yuropean propagandist, a Pillar’s dog, an Illuminada, a Donny-Pops supremacist, Heathy Mind and Body advocate, Church goer, Min-Hu thug, a Rokyo mafia girl, and worst of all, a Super Foods Employee.” Jesse is using his fingers to keep track of whatever he’s saying. “Makes sense. Right?”

“I don’t think half of the stuff you said is real.” You frown, and wonder what’s wrong with Super Foods? Ruby works there, doesn’t she?

“You’d be surprised.” Jesse tries to sound like he’s joking, but he’s not. Who are these people?! “You dodged my questions anyway.”

“I met her.” You admit even if it’s painfully obvious.

“…And her flame, then saw her during one of the meetings, got it.” Jesse assumes to not dilute the conversation. You won’t tell him you sit right next to each other.

“And I’m not a fan exactly.” You clear your thoughts. You liked *one* song. That doesn’t make you a fan, right?

“Don’t be like that. I meant if you’re one of her crazy fans. You can like what’s popular.” Jesse tries to show solidarity.

“Are you a fan?” You can tell he wants to relate.

“I prefer not to comment.” Jesse adjusts his hat and looks away.

“You act like you don’t know her closely.” You notice his demeanor isn’t exactly warm towards the idol.

“I haven’t seen her for a long while. Our families used to spend summer vacations together when we were growing up. She, her siblings, Yukika, Mr. Auburn’s grandson, Chloe and I. Didn’t last.” Jesse should be acting like those were fond memories, but he looks traumatized.

…You’re so curious about some stuff he’s saying, but the meeting!

>“Who’s Chloe?” Jesse mentioned her like you’re supposed to know her, and it bugs you.

“Just for you to know: Carol was part of the Cult, then I think she joined Ka-Shing. I don’t think she’s that evil, just a big coward.” You reveal information about the shitty idol.

Carol…” Jesse’s hands are shaking. “Thanks. I’ll find a way to take care of her.”

“Take care of her, how?” You want to know the specifics.

“How else? I’m going to put a stop to her wiles. You don’t move from the Cult to K’s group with pure-hearted intentions.” Jesse retorts without hesitation. “You seem concerned. Will you stand in my way?” Jesse is assuming motivations again.

“Not necessarily. I don’t want you to hurt her.” You have a complicated relationship with Carol.

“That thought never crossed her mind for somebody else.” Jesse knows Carol is a despicable woman and a terrible wife. “I’m planning no harm; I’m taking her flame away.”

“Talk to her first. You don’t want to jump to conclusions.” You suggest after a little observation of his character. Despite all Carol’s evils, she did help you take down the cult!

“You know her, don’t you?” Jesse is sure now, and nothing can convince him otherwise. “Why don’t you set up a meeting between all of us?” Jesse is legitimately requesting.

“Sure, I’ll try.” You add another promise to the pile…

“Try? Promise me.” Jesse wants true confirmation.

“F-Fine, thing is I have a tight schedule. That’s why I wasn’t 100%!” You have to do so many things once you’re out of the bubble! “Speaking of meetings, should we go now? We shouldn’t make the girls wait any longer.”

“Let’s.” Jesse is relieved. He’s going to take you by your word. You better not screw this up.

“You don’t mind them coming along to meet him, right?” You want to make sure this isn’t uncomfortable for him.

“Hah, you have no idea!” Jesse has a good chuckle as he walks forward to the bus stop. “Who do you think was also helping Mr. Auburn?” He doesn’t seem to want to elaborate for now.

And so, your group of 4 makes their way to the Orphanage of the Blue! You think you have Pond Town’s layout memorized, ‘cause finding the place was a breeze! Or maybe it’s because you came here twice before. Who cares? You’ve arrived!

“Eugh, I really don’t like this place, like, at all…” Grace has bad vibes about it.

“Bad vibes all arrrround…” Mirjam agrees.

“Quack.” Your duck is not afraid of anything.

“Yeah, about that…” You don’t want to say, but…

“Something off.” Jesse is seeing the exact same thing you are.

“Can you give me a second? I need to call someone.” You know this is Esperanza’s doing, and you must contact her.

“We waited for a while, what’s another couple long minutes more?” Grace waves her arms around impatiently. That had some sarcasm dripped on. “But why now?”

“Is the orphanage haunted…?” Mirjam doesn’t want to sound like she’s afraid, but she’s failing. “It smells like it is.”

“Now that you mention it...!” Grace agrees that there are supernatural elements involved.

“Yeah, kinda.” You know there’s a stinky presence, at least. Both Tomatoes aren’t thrilled.

“How are you planning on contacting her?” Jesse is curious if it has something to do with your own powers.

“Let me show you…” You clear your throat, facing the opposite direction to the orphanage. “ESPERANZA!!!

“…” Jesse feels like he went to a circus, and didn’t realize he’s wearing clown makeup.

“Oh wow. Phil can really scream!” Grace is fascinated by your capabilities. That’s your athletics, baby. “That reminds me, Mirjam, is your throat as sore as mine?” Pigtails grabs her own neck.

Please, don’t respond.” Jesse *really* wants to leave that question unanswered.

Magically, a piece of paper with a similar green aura is carried by a sudden breeze. Jesse catches it. He looks unamused after reading it and hands it over:

—Robert Auburn is inside. To keep my promise, I created a barrier around the building to block everyone from exiting. Left some snacks too. You’re welcome.—

Esperanza.

“This ain’t good.” You feel like calling Esperanza again won’t do a thing, she’s clearly not around. At least she did her part, right?

“I regret not joining the Assembly.” A pissed-off Jesse has one joke in him.

“Oh no, it’s rrrreally haunted…” Mirjam knows it’s terror time again…

“It’s the middle of the day. How bad can it be?” Grace is only spooked by things out of this Earth, not within. Except for serial killers. Those can be anywhere! “It’s not like there’s a serial killer inside…” See? You get her.

“I’ll keep you safe anyhow.” You get closer to the house and knock on the door… Your hand bouncing on the energy creates a ripple effect, but nothing more. “Anyone home?”

You hear someone running like their lives depend on it towards the door.

DON’T MOVE!” It’s the voice of a teenager. “Listen to me closely! You need to help us out! Don’t do anything else but follow my instructions: There’s a key under the pot of one of the flowers nearby. We need you to open the door and leave it open, okay…? JUST FOR THE LOVE OF ANGRA! DON’T CLOSE THE DOOR!

You don’t have the heart to tell whoever is shouting that this doesn’t matter, ‘cause there’s a ghost keeping everyone inside – so, you’ll follow the instructions as told. Before you can look around for the key, Mirjam hands it to you. Seems like the tomatoes went ahead and did it. How efficient! You unlock the door…

“Done.” You leave it open.

“Yes! Yes! Don’t twitch a muscle!” The same teenage voice demands that you stay where you are.

“The door is open?! Gwaha! Thank the blue sky we’re safe!” The annoying voice of another kid is exuberant as well.

“Don’t care that nobody noticed, we’re leavin’!” The girl teenager rushes to the exit. Her fellow friend follows.

They’re neck and neck escaping at the same speed, trying to push each other away, every step matching the other’s, too anxious for freedom – a maniacal smile on both of their faces. But it all comes to a halt once the duo attempts to cross the door. The green aura bounces them back like it’s jelly. Both tenderly fall asleep on the ground once they stop rolling. They’re even holding each other like tiny kitties from the same litter…

“W-What happened?! I saw something green!” Mirjam is terrified.

“W-Witchcraft!” Grace knows this isn’t normal at all!

“I thought it was haunted…” Mirjam reflects.

“It’s, like, the same thing!” Grace isn’t wrong.

“It can be both too!” Mirjam thinks it’s worse than before!

“Oh no, it can be both!” Grace holds her sister. Both are hiding directly behind you, closer to the danger.

“They look fine.” Jesse isn’t worried about the dummies inside.

“Uhm…” You noticed nobody else is around the door.

You hear the sound of children playing inside, having a good time – also adult voices, but that might be the TV. They’re by the living room, if your memory serves you right. Also, you can hear footsteps on the second floor.

What do you do?

“What are we waiting for? Let’s go in.” You’re ready to enter the green building!

“B-But what about the witchcraft?!” The horror-stricken Grace is full of doubts.

“A-And the ghosts…?” The terror-stricken Mirjam adds too.

“Girls.” You put your arms around them. “I said I’m going to protect you! Trust me!” You smile to show confidence.

“Phil, sorrrry for doubting!” Mirjam rests her head on the arm you’ve given her.

“Y’know, like, we get a lil’ silly sometimes, hehe!” Grace rests her head on your arm too.

“Don’t apologize for having a good amount of healthy skepticism.” Jesse is bothered by these lovebirds showing their appreciation. “Trusting him is fine. But he could be overestimating his abilities.”

“Have you seen the things Phil can do? He’s, like, the coolest, most reliable guy walking on earth! He can do almost anything!” Grace has you in the highest of esteems! “Are you sure you two are friends? Hmm?”

“And he always puts others over his wellbeing first! He’d never put us in danger!” Mirjam has total trust in you!

“Grace, Mirjam, he’s right. Besides, I make more mistakes than not.” You have to admit you’re not even close to the best. And for their own good, they don’t need to blindly trust you.

“Yeah, we know, you talked to us. Hehe!” Grace jokes around.

“Make all the mistakes you want. We know your heart is in the rrright place!” Mirjam goes tomato.

“We believe in you!” Grace smiles as she goes tomato too.

“I don’t want to make mistakes though.” You point out.

Exactly! That’s why we believe in you!” Both tomatoes bury their faces on your chest. “And since you said you’d protect us…” They drag you inside the building! You’re inside the blue orphanage! Still as eerie as you remember it.

Humph.” Jesse finds it fascinating the amount of trust these tomatoes have. He goes inside and checks on the pair of unconscious kids. “They’re sleeping soundly. We can leave them here if you’d like.”

Grace and Mirjam find some pillows to put under the teenagers’ heads.

“I hear some heavy steps on the second floor. Let’s go.” You command the group to find the mysterious adult up there.

You follow the sound of the footsteps into one of the rooms… Inside, a middle aged guy has just thrown something through the window, and you hear the smacking sound once it connects with the ground. Now, he steps back. He’s planning on jumping out!

“W-Wait, don’t jump!” Grace shouts without thinking!

“T-Therrre’s so much to live for!” Mirjam adds to her sister’s shrieking.

“H-Huh? What…?” The guy didn’t realize you four came in. “O-Oh, t-this is a misunderstanding… ha.. ha…! I-I was planning on using this!” The man in the suit shows a rope he was holding in his hand.

“No! That’s a terrrrible way to go too!” Mirjam rejects this idea too!

“Yeah, like, don’t! Don’t!” Grace can’t come up with anything else to say.

“Girls, that noose isn’t the type for that.” You bring some common sense to the situation.

“H-He’s right! C-Calm down! I don’t have that many reasons to kill myself just yet, haha…” The gentleman chuckles nervously.

Mr. Auburn...” Jesse’s eyes are wide open.

“Well, Jesse, you’re in control now.” You push him forward. It’s his reunion!

Jesse stops midway, turns his head back to you, then back at Mr. Auburn. He adjusts his clothes, and walks forward. “Excuse me, are you Robert Auburn?”

“Y-Yes, I am. how can I be of assistance, uhm…?” The man with the noose is waiting for Jesse’s name.

“Jesse. My name is Jesse...” Jesse’s smile goes awry.

“Right. Jesse! It’s easy on the ears... Haha…” Mr. Auburn scratches the back of his neck. “W-What can I do for you, Jesse?”

“Pardon me. I’ll leave you be. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting. I don’t want to waste more of your time...” Jesse flicks his hair to hide his eyes, and starts walking away. Mirjam and Grace exchange worried looks. You won’t say a peep because it’s for him to handle.

“I see…?” The poor man is confused. “W-Wait! Do you know a way out? I-It seems like we’re trapped and I was trying to—”

“Yes, I know.” Jesse feels finding a way out is the least he can do.

“O-Okay… T-That’ll be one less pickle for me to worry about. Are you going with your friends and your sister? I’d like to know your names before y’all go.” Mr. Auburn smiles.

“S-Sister?” Jesse wants to hide the fact that he’s related to a certain tomato!

“Oh god, you might actually be related. You’re totally going bald now, Mirjam!” Grace is already imagining it.

“Nooo! I don’t want a bowling ball head!” Mirjam is imagining the worst. You rub her head to ease her pain. “W-Wait, I’m related to Jesse? Is that why he was glaring at me before…?”

Bald? What?” Jesse glares at you. He knows it’s your fault somehow. You look away. “We’re not actually related.”

“Aw…” Mirjam is sad she doesn’t have a long-lost brother.

“Eh, you have us, and you ain’t a bowling ball head.” Grace doesn’t care that much.

“Could you please tell me how old you are…?” Mr. Auburn lowers his voice.

“I’m soon to be 19.” Jesse doesn’t see where this is going.

“Oh! I understand!” Mr. Auburn gets excited as he takes a notebook from his jacket’s pocket. “You don’t have to hide it from her. I thought you were 3 siblings, but despite my best efforts, someone always gets lost in the cracks. She’s in her last year of high school, it won’t make much of a difference as long as you don’t make a fuss. It’s safe.”

W-W-W-W-W-Wait, what?!” Mirjam is feeling overwhelmed by emotion.

“Ah! Here it is! You’re the Rosenbergs, aren’t you? The resemblance is uncanny. I don’t get these wrong.” Mr. Auburn goes through the pages to find the names he needed. “Mian, Melia, and Mirjam… and now Jesse.” He adds it to the list.

“Melia…” Jesse mutters. That must be his mom’s name.

Brrrotherrr Jesse…!” Mirjam doesn’t know whether to hug him or not, as he looks as approachable as a possum near the trash.

“W-We’re not… Ugh…” Jesse facepalms. “Fine. Sister Mirjam.” The tomato gets the hug she wanted! Jesse sighs as he makes eye contact with you since you’re the only one who can understand his pain.

Mr. Auburn has a crooked smile on his face… Not fully happy, but relieved.

“I really don’t want to spoil the party, but, like, I don’t get it, how do you know, mister?” Grace is curious as to why this is happening.

“Y-You’ll have to take my word for it. I can’t explain without getting into trouble… Haha…” Mr. Auburn scratches the back of his head.

You nudge Grace and whisper to her that he’s the same guy who helped Gautier. She had a full ‘OH SHIT’ face after that for a short moment. She tells you that you should find him.

“Wait! Mister! Do I have some blood siblings too? My last name is Andreev! A-n-d-r-e-e-v!” Grace wants a special relationship too, even though what she has with her fellow tomatoes is more special.

“I-I’m sorry…” Mr. Auburn is unable to find anything. “You’re an only child as far as I know. But who knows? I didn’t have Jesse in my records after all.”

“Whatever! Don’t care! I have my sisters! And I’ll have a bunch of kids to compensate!” Grace grabs your arm.

“Ha ha ha…” Mr. Auburn sounds really uncomfortable after hearing that. “You must be curious too.” Mr. Auburn turns to you, and for the first time, he takes a good look. “…H-How didn’t I notice? You’re her spitting image. Your last name must be Oka!”

Jesse, Mirjam, and Grace are confused by this statement…

“You know Ema, don’t you?” It’s one of the few times in your entire life that you’ve called your own mother by her name.

“You know her name…?” Mr. Auburn has a bittersweet smile. “I never did it right from the very beginning, did I? Oh, poor little Ema.”

Grace and Mirjam share a confused look. It doesn’t seem they’re that clear that Jesse is from the future too, but they know for sure that you are.

“I didn’t know… I swear I checked everywhere. I made sure to look into every single document available before she left my hands, and I still didn’t know. How did you slip through…?” Mr. Auburn looks down, full of regret. “She has a sibling. She has you. You have each other. You should have each other. I almost tore apart another family forever, and I didn’t know. I’m so sorry...

Jesse is starting to look pale…

This is not how it is supposed to go.

…?

>“You didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t know what you did exactly. But Ema is fine. I’m fine. You saved her. This isn’t the end of the world.” Try to comfort Mr. Auburn.
>“You’re getting this wrong. I’m not Ema’s sibling. I’m her son.” Let the truth be free! You’re from the future! J-Just don’t tell him how your mom died.
>“I’m fine, don’t worry! And I’m sure Ema is too! Once I meet her again everything will be fine.” Smile! Be cheerful! It’s fine! Everything is fine!
>“You said Ema? Whoops! I wasn’t talking about an Ema! I was talking about Elma! I don’t know any Emas!” Lie! Lie like a cow!

If this doesn't work though we might wanna tell him the truth, I'd feel bad if we made this guy feel depressed over something he shouldn't be

“You didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t know what you did exactly, but Ema is fine. I’m fine. You saved her. This isn’t the end of the world.” You do your best to comfort Mr. Auburn. You didn’t expect to make him feel this way…

“I allowed it to happen.” Mr. Auburn won’t ever get rid of this guilt, but something about him makes you believe there’s an undying determination inside his body. One that says he’ll live the rest of his life trying to make up for all the pain he’s responsible for. Or something. It’s something Philonune believes.

“You didn’t cause anything.” An indescribable feeling made you say it. “Why don’t you find Ema and ask her if you’re the one to blame?”

“Ha ha ha…” Mr. Auburn chuckles. “I-I didn’t want to bring the mood down… It’s been so long since I heard her name, it made my mind go places. May I ask what your name is, son?”

“Phil.” You don’t want to get things convoluted by saying your actual name.

“A sharp name.” Mr. Auburn goes back to the first page of his notepad, and writes it down right next to the name of the person he failed first.

“P-Please, Mr. Auburn, don’t feel bad! If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have rrrreunited with one of my brothers!” Mirjam feels guilty about not saying anything. “We should be thanking you instead!”

“Ha ha ha… Please. You don’t have to.” Mr. Auburn feels awkward. “I’m alive because of you, Mr. Auburn. How can you ask me not to show you my appreciation?” Jesse doesn’t want to see him in pain.

“I’m living a good life, that’s all the gratitude I need.” Mr. Auburn smiles.
“You saved the life of one of our friends too! If only we found him when we checked the school, you’d know!” Grace reveals she and Mirjam actually went to check for Jesse at the school! “Please don't feel guilty!”

Here…” Mr. Auburn writes down something on another notepad he had in his jacket. He starts ripping off the pages and handing them over. One for you, and another for Mirjam and Jesse. “Y’all came for this, right? The only way I’d find some modicum of happiness is if you found your relatives, and live a joyful life.”

It’s the address to your mother’s orphanage.

What do you do?

>Ask Naiad to grant you a wish… You don’t know what, but…
>Ask for Gautier’s siblings’ addresses. The Mastersons will matter soon!
>Thank him and take your leave.
>“We didn’t come for this...”

“…And, if you can, please help fix this world.” Mr. Auburn scratches the back of his neck again.

“Thank you.” You pocket the marvelous gift you’ve received. “Thank you for everything!”

Whether he likes it or not, you go for a hug! A hug nobody saw coming thanks to your… errr… underrated stealth(?)! It’s the Unseen Hug! You feel as if you’re doing this for your Mom too. Mr. Auburn doesn’t know how to respond aside from giving you pats some on the back. It became a group hug once the Tomatoes joined in unprompted! Leaving the poor guy both overwhelmed and confused. Even Naiad and the Duck joined! Jesse did not.

“Ha Ha Ha…” Mr. Auburn feels two times more awkward than normal because he doesn’t want to find this situation awkward, but does anyway. “You kids are far too nice to a cloddish man like me…”

“Maybe someone needs to, like, learn to just take the love instead.” Grace wants Mr. Auburn to stop being so deflective.

“I-I’ll take it into consideration…” The man with a limp chuckles nervously.

“There’s one more thing. Can you give us the address of Gautier Masterson’s siblings, please? That’s the friend Grace mentioned earlier.” You politely ask for the favor.

“I-I can’t… not now… But I promise once he’s of age, I’ll personally seek him out.” Mr. Auburn shakes his head and laments that this isn’t the time. “In case something were to happen to me…” Mr. Auburn writes the address down. “Here…” He hands you three the note. Grace takes it as she felt left out before. “I trust you, kids.”

“Thank you!” Grace smiles. “We’ll keep it safe for that meathead.”

“Mr. Auburn, one more thing before we go.” Jesse asks for a moment. “This will sound rather strange, but I’ve been meaning to ask… If that something you mentioned before happened, and you parted from this world, is there something you would like to tell your… son before going?” Jesse wanted to ask about someone else…

“Wouldn’t I be dead? Or am I some kind of ghost?” Mr. Auburn is often used to answering what dumb shit kids ask, so he’s not double questioning why he’s receiving this type of question.

“Let’s say God gives you the chance to send a message before parting.” Jesse clarifies.

“I suppose I’d say something akin to ‘Sorry, your old man wasn’t careful enough!’. Ha…” Mr. Auburn looks away.

“What if it wasn’t your fault?” Jesse gets a little hasty. “Some mistake happened… and you couldn’t say goodbye.”

…Jesse, you knob, stop worrying, Bruce already knows how much I love him.” Mr. Auburn begins chuckling…

What…?” Jesse is flabbergasted. “Could you repeat that?!”

“Huh? I-I said I need a little more time to think about it...” Mr. Auburn is perplexed.

“He didn’t say that, did he?” Mirjam whispers to Grace.

“Nope. Not at all.” Grace whispers back.

“Quack, Quack.” The duck adds.

“I’m sorry, uncle Rob…” Jesse mutters as he walks away. “Thank you for sharing some time with us, Mr. Auburn!” The overwhelmed guy says before stepping away from the room.

“R-Right…” Mr. Auburn takes the rope off his body…“Take care!”

You silently stare at the open door as you feel the Greenzone dissipate…

Sadly this is all we have for this thread, thank you for playing and see you next time!

I'm not a weeb, only watched ER cause it was fucking S-tier all around and provided escapism. Sorry anon.

Grave of the Fireflies is a work of art regardless of culture, you philistine. Definitely watch the dub though actually, Setsuko’s voice in the sub is hella annoying.

I'm aware, but also don't care how much praise a piece of media gets. I only watch things that catch my attention and them prove to be of high quality, not what's on everyone's radar (from two decades ago). I should rewatch Redline sometime.

>>5467024
Well as long as you’re aware that you’re depriving yourself it’s aight I suppose.
>>
>>5467151
I'm not depriving myself of anything because I have no need or desire to consume the top 100 movies/series/animes/comics/games/books or whatever.
