Our evo begins in the benthic landscape. The sea floor is littered with scraps of Biometal.

Here, we find our starters.

1) has a Bilaterally Symmetrical body plan and can produce vibrations that disturb the Biometal on the sea floor. They are then able to absorb this Biometal through their skin in order to power their metabolic processes. It seems that their ability to produce vibrations grants them a form of movement, though they can't control the direction. They are called Boomers due to their ability to produce vibrations and are about 1 mm in size.

2) has a Radially Symmetrical body plan, insomuch as a flat circle can have Radial Symmetry. They have a flat magnetic plate on their tops that attract metal debris disturbed by Boomers. They absorb biometal through this magnetic plate. Unlike the Boomers, they are unable to move except when acted upon by the waves. However being moved this way also risks them being turned over and becoming unable to feed. Because of their magnetic abilities, they are called Magners. They are about 1mm in diameter.

The ability to absorb Biometal through its surface has both advantages and disadvantages. Two Boomers that bump together may fuse into one Boomer, causing a mutual consumption that typically ends in death.

1) minimizes its Biometal absorption area by metabolizing oxygen from the air and forming a shell of Biometal Oxide, reducing its feeding area to only its front and rear ends. It is known as the Shell Boomers.

2) Instead embraces fusion. Composed of two Boomer units fused together, they are able to conduct nutrient exchange through their fused part rather than trying to completely consume each other. By alternating their vibrations in a specific way, they are able to get more mobility than other Boomers. They become known as the Gemini Boomers. However, two-boomer units seem to be the limit of fusion as further fusions result in the middle segments dying of malnutrition, causing the linked Boomers to die.

1) has a simple detection unit. When it detects tilt above a certain threshold, it will rapidly vibrate until the Vibro Magner rights itself. Unfortunately, there's a small chance that it will cause the Magner to die of starvation due to being energy intensive.

2) has a simpler solution. It has a small protrusion on its bottom side that anchors it to the sea floor.

The Storing Boomer may seem identical to it's less advanced brethren from a first glance, but it has a little something no other Boomer has - an internal cavity. Thanks to this storage pouch, the Storing Boomer can collect biometal from the sediment much more efficiently than before - instead of only collecting the scraps that manage to coat their speaker, the Storing Boomer is able to consume over 60% of the sediment they disturb. Of course, that much biometal will take a while to absorb, but it's not called the STORING Boomer for nothing, you know?

1) Develops wider paddles and a 'front' facing side in order to allow for more efficient movement. It seems to have become much smaller compared to its ancestors.

2) Instead goes the opposite route, becoming larger. This has come with a mutation that allows it to turn its magnetic pulses into small-scale EMPs, disabling the programming of other Mechanoids long enough for absorption.

3) The front-facing speaker becomes much smaller in favor of two rear-facing speakers that allow for better forward movement. This allows it to kick up more Biometals while slowly moving itself forward to seek out more Biometal clouds.

4) The young subdivide their bodies in order to be more flexible. The 'tooth' that the young have on their side develops into a larger, hydrodynamic wing so each vibration carries it a larger step forward.

The taller Magners use their top-sided electromagnetic caps in order to trap what little UV radiation reaches the benthic areas of the sea. As a result, they become taller and more prolific at higher altitudes while still remaining in Benthic zones. Trapping UV energy this way allows them to 'reuse' spent Biometals giving them a longer lifespan during periods where biometals are lean.

1) develops its speaker into an exaggerated cup shape. This gives its ability to produce vibrations more power, but has the side effect of throwing it backwards when it vibrates.

2) develops a slightly larger body and additional fins. The increase in size also increases its need for biometals, thus it tends to eat dead Mechaniforms that fall onto the sea floor.

3) Develops a backward facing vibration module, granting it faster forward movement at the cost of once again increasing its chances of tipping over and dying. However, this allows it to make the most of the clouds of Biometals it kicks up from the sea floor.

4) develops an additional segment for increased stability. Because movement has increased its need for biometals, it has slowed down its metabolism to the point that it doesn't move unless another Boomer kicks up a Biometal cloud. Unfortunately, this strategy means it can starve to death if left alone.

3) simply raises its magnetic unit higher in order to get the most of Biometal clouds.

Due to the constant broadcast spawning of the various mechanoids, the sea has been filled with plankton-like Biometal cells (Computer jizz). Some of these have been carried by currents into Pelagic zones where they typically die of starvation and fall down into the benthic zone as marine snow.

However, some clouds of computer jizz remain susp.ended in relatively calm parts of the pelagic zone and any creature that develops a way of detecting these clouds may now colonize the pelagic (open sea) zone.

By covering it's feeding orifice with a bell that prevents biometals from escaping and dialing back the power of it's vibration until the radius of soil perturbation matches the size of it's "mouth" the Sucker is able to collect 99% of the biometal it digs up - though that 99% is not much more than it's previous average haul in terms of raw material, since the vibration itself is weaker(and energetically cheaper!) overall.
It's size has increased to the point that it's speaker is having difficulty actually moving it around.

>>5361295
Since it lives on the bottom of the sea anyways there's not much purpose to using it's speaker to float 24/7 when it can just stand by on it's limbs.

An offshoot of the Burrowing Magner are the Propulsive Magners.

The turbine type uses a spinning motion to turn its entire body and pass water through a set of tightly packed stationary fins. It goes very fast in a single direction.

The fin type flaps little stupid fins but can move with much greater accuracy.

Core commonality between these species allowed for a swarming behavior, resulting not in a new species, but a new behavior.

Gestalt, or super organisms. The sum of individuals. Some would atrophy to become subordinate to another organism, existing purely as a sensor, means of feeding, or propulsive mode. Others would form looser bonds with their fellow community, coming and going as was mutually or opportunistically beneficial.

Many, many, iterations and variations of organisms would occur in a short period of time, and through it, destructive testing against the environment, other species, or other individuals. Stack 01 represented the earliest model of "success", bobbing up and down through the zones of habitation, specialized for this vertical, near one dimensional and highly linear lifestyle.

It is likely that given sufficient time, stacks will blend their constituent organisms into a singular, refined form, removing redundancy of individual in favor of improved efficiency or overall macro capacity.

1) Develops a primitive hinge that it can close over its feeding apparatus. This allows it to protect itself from anything that wants to fuse with it.

2)'s body has segmented, giving it better mobility.

3) has a bigger rear speaker, allowing it to zoom at high speeds, however this occasionally causes it to flip upside down and cause it to starve and die.

4) Segments its body, however this three-legged configuration is very unstable, making it a slow walker. Luckily its feeding magnets are on the sides of its body, so it can't really die from falling over.

5) The 'tubes' on its magnet half develop into long protrusions that are better at finding clouds of Biometal, allowing it to occasionally dip into the Pelagic environments. This also means that its sex cells are pretty much exclusively in the Pelagic area where they face little predation.

6) develop Biometal gel composed of Biometal Hydroxide. This gel is nearly 90 percent water and cushions it from damage from moving at high speeds.

Product D has evolved into a singular creature. Although normally moves by awkwardly waddling its back side, it will use the pedipalps on its front side to bludgeon other mechanoids.

Its front half has a stomach used only for mechanical digestion. Once mechanoids have been crushed to an appropriate side, its rear stomach focuses on metabolizing the crushed mechanoids.

>>5366433
2) Its front legs grow larger in order to be able to reach more biometal. Its absorption area is now confined to its anterior face and its arms. It will use its front arms to bludgeon other Mechanoids until they cease function so they can be absorbed.

3) What was once an antenna used for detecting electrical fluctuations has evolved into a horn used for injecting a magnetic pulse directly into other mechanoids' brains. Once it has disabled its prey, they will be absorbed through the magnets located on either side of its body segments.

>>5370835
>>5366433

4 and 5 both experience similar adaptations, where their sensory organs become concentrated on their anterior.

>>5369905

Although it has no sensory organs, it can occasionally dip into the pelagic zone to take advantage of the computer jizz, although not nearly as effective as those native to the pelagic zone.

It seems they will occasionally 'eat' other mechanoids that are half their size or less.

>>5366433

2) Develops a 'bare' processor that calculates the jiggling experienced by its Biometal Hydroxide pouches. This allows it to avoid areas that are already swarming with other Mechanoids.

It uses combined Photosynthetic and magnetic cells and obtains energy by splitting oxygen from Biometal, turning it into Carbon-Iron-Oxygen.

Its trunk will accumulate This Carbon-Iron-Oxygen accumulates on its trunk until it can no longer perform gas exchange. The trunk then dies and the magnetic-photosynthetic mats will develop a new trunk.

the boomer bilateral things they feed on particulates in the sediment stirred up with vibrations, bottom feeders or feeding on the offspring of other mechanoids that swim around in the water as tiny particles.
there is merging stuff but thats like amobeas or bacteria fusing or eating eachother
