/qst/ - Quests

Hey hey hey fellow creators of /qst/. After another lengthy hiatus, I've returned to continue our journey into the exploration and evolution of life our Moon Worlds Janus & Rienia. This will be starting with Region 1, or the Western Hemisphere of Rienia.

As GM, I'll do my best to actively work on phylogeny charts to track the evolutions, and also make random events for the world to drive evolution down new paths. Since the focus of these threads will be specifically on a section of the world, players are encouraged to speciate and diversify regions as much as possible. After this thread, we will be exploring life's evolution back in Region 2 of Janus.

How to play:
• Open an image of a species in MS Paint, or your editor of choice
• Make one evolutionary change to that species
• Save as .PNG!
• Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why.
• Details indicating what the generation of your species is important. Please indicate. (Base Organisms are Generation 0)
• Details regarding a creature’s size or name are encouraged, but not required.
• Nothing too outlandish. Anything silly or derailing will not be considered a canon species 95% of the time.

Notes:
• Unless stated explicitly, no species ever goes extinct. Old species can still evolve, even if they're not on the latest "chain"
• Try to make your evolutions gradual and realistic in biological standards.
• Every 24-48 hours, I'll provide a Phylogeny Chart to track changes. These take a while, so please be patient.
• Expect a Random World Event at least once per thread to shake up the world and game.
• As this thread to starting off on the heels of a mass extinction, there will not be any major extinctions concluding this ingame period of time
• When this thread reaches its endpoint, we will be switching back to Moon World Janus next thread.
• Have fun

New to the Game?:
• Don't be shy. If you have an idea for an organism and want to spend the time making it, please by all means do so.
• We also have a Discord to keep you up to date on EvoGame activities, and chat with other folks and myself. https://discord.gg/82nhT6f
• I have begun work on an Imgur Gallery to track evolution and provide up-to-date info on each world. It will be posted in the near future.
• There is a Blank Template that you can use to make any organisms you wish to make for this game below.
• Just a note, while it doesn't matter how intertwined your organism is with the rest of the ecosystem, the more dependent it is on the existence of other creatures, the more potential your organism has to survive into future threads.

The Description of the present Janus, Setting, and, and more will be posted in supplementary posts.

Present Setting: Just before the new era dubbed the Metapurgaluxian, the Lunt System, particularly near the gas giant of Seostea where Janus and Rienia orbit was struck by a massive Gamma Ray Burst emitted from a nearby supernova. Rienia at the moment of impact was situated behind Seostea, which abated the worst effects of the GRB on Rienia; but its biosphere was still doused in deadly radiation due to the Moon World’s weaker Magnetosphere. Global ecosystems collapsed due to the loss of Rienia's keystone basal organisms that were ill equipped to survive the acute radiation. This led to an extinction event, albeit milder compared to what Janus would experience, and similarly took two million years to recover. Thankfully this recovery was hastened with the assistance of the Nomad World Ship (seen in image), and its legions of drones that reseeded the beleaguered ecosystem

At the start of the Metapurgaluxian Era, life on Rienia has rebound thanks in part to ecological reseeding. Life in Rienia’s marine habitats would steadily return and diversify even in spite of the loss of nearly all of its phytoplankton and zooplankton. Life on land and the coastal seas would similarly rebound, presenting a host of new niches and habitats for life to repopulate. The Western Hemisphere features large island clusters in the equatorial and southern latitudes, and ancient continent known as Split Shelf that are lands of opportunity for new and amazing forms of terrestrial life to arise in this new era

> An evolution that impacts the same organism throughout the whole region is allowed, but must be specified in your post
> Marine & Aquatic Organisms may only exist in either the Freshwater Basins/Wetlands, Limestone Caverns, or Shallow Seas/Coastline
> Only organisms from the Shallow Seas/Coastline and Rocky Coastline can freely travel throughout Region 1 (Action must be specified in your evolution post)
> Aquatic & Terrestrial Organisms from the Freshwater Basins, Ferrous Forests, and/or Limestone Caverns may be relocated or travel to neighboring landmasses (Interconnections of landmasses can be found below)
> Terrestrial organisms from the Arid Mediterranean, Glade Highlands, Fertile Lowlands or Limestone Caverns can travel and evolve in the Gypsum Deserts and vice versa.
> Barring rules above, any Terrestrial Organism may migrate or evolve in other habitats so long as they're adjacent to one another
> If you as a creator wish to establish the existence of a new ecosystem, feel free to specify this and post what organisms would belong in this new ecosystem

=Landmasses & Interconnections=
> The Visceral Archipelago have interconnected populations with the Hepatia Isles
> Oculox Island has interconnected populations with Island 1 (Unnamed)
> Isla de Iridian, the Visceral Archipelago, and Island 1 can rarely have interconnected populations
> The Split Shelf can rarely have interconnected populations with the northernmost regions of Isla de Iridian

=Additional/Misc Stuff=
> The following Imgur link will provide you with the ecological food webs of each environment in Region 1: https://imgur.com/a/E0pz7vM
> Most of the materials for these threads are made by me exclusively. If you can and/or want to provide me with resources to help improve the quality of information we have for the setting (Food Webs, Trophic Levels, Mapping of individual Landmasses, Etc.) this would be welcomed and appreciated
> Fanart is welcome, and low-key encouraged

The attached image contains full size & clean images for all the extant organisms available for evolution. Below I will provide a general description & stuff to consider for the eleven diverse habitats found in Region 1 of Rienia. Consider these as features to note when evolving organisms in these habitats.

=Shallow Seas/Coastline=
> Shallow Seas generally describes the continental shelfs of landmasses or distinct Seas and Gulfs identified on the world map
> These waters have rich deposits of Silicates, Calcium, Iron, Zinc, Magnesium, Arsenic, Selenium and quantities of Organic Compounds and Hydrogen Sulfide diffused in the waters, which are commonly digested or passed through organisms respiration tracts
> This habitat is heavily impacted by Rienia's often violent storms, which are additionally influenced by localized volcanism that distorts weather patterns
> Nearly all organisms here live exclusively in the water or are water dependent for sustenance or to keep from desiccating from exposure

=Freshwater Basins/Wetlands=
> Freshwater Basins includes all lakes, as well as its wetlands and rivers (not seen on World Map) that carve etch the Rienian landmasses
> Like the seas, these Freshwater habitats have rich deposits of minerals, metals and organic compounds diffused in the waters, often to greater volume due to increased sediment runoff that commonly leads to highly turbid waters
> Rienia's heavier gravity results in a greater prevalence of canyons and waterfalls that carve through the landscape, in addition to deep lakes and rivers
> These habitats are almost always directly adjacent to other terrestrial habitats, and thus have heavy interactions with terrestrial populations and their organisms

=Limestone Caverns=
> These habitats are the remnants of ancient ocean structures that have been uplifted above the sea, forming expansive subterranean landscapes that stretch thousands of square miles
> These caverns are often connected to the surface via rivers flowing through these habitats that carry with them essential nutrients and minerals for its resident ecology
> Organisms have the luxury of using the caves for shelter, but often opt to live well beyond the Twilight Zone of the caves, living in total darkness.
> These labyrinthine systems are commonly filled with deadly pockets of gases that are deadly traps to unwary organisms

=Fertile Lowlands=
> This habitat is largely equivalent to Earth's veritable grassland habitats and are a transition zone between the tropical and chillier Rienian climates
> The Fertile Lowlands are frequently subject to torrential storms, keeping these regions rich in moisture
> The loamy soil is laden with high quantities of iron sediment, tinting the ground with a rust coloration
> Unique habitat features include fields of Knobbed Ruby Kelp, naturally occurring mineral rich mud quagmires and massive migrations of various terrestrial organisms

Continued environment notes & final thread assets in final posts.
>>
Finally, I provide you a blank template for posting new evolutions in the attached image, as well as the remaining general description & stuff to consider about the eleven distinct habitats found in Region 1 of Rienia.

=Arid Mediterranean=
> Much like Earth's Mediterranean, Rienia's Arid Mediterranean are found along the arid coasts on the westernmost sides of landmasses
> Low annual rainfall in these habitats along with a high prevalence of dust leads to common, and abrupt brushfire events that wipe out swathes of vegetated land
> Organisms here have adapted to take advantage of the short winters in this habitat that are the only time when heavy deluges of rain, sleet or even snow inundates the arid soil with much needed water
> Unique habitat features include oasis-like natural springs, salt licked coastal winds, rocky cliff drop-offs along the coast and verdant grottos

=Ferrous Forests=
> The Ferrous Forests are named for the dominant Crust Trees that encompass the tropic and equatorial latitudes of Rienia
> The densely packed foliage of this habitat combined with its wet and humid climate leads to the understory being a damp, but veritable paradise for its native organisms
> The richness of iron and other minerals cycled by the forests of Crust Tree makes the the topsoil far more fertile than anywhere else in Rienia
> Unique habitat features include organic iron veins leftover from decomposing trees, a dimly lit, green hued understory, and daily pluvial events that stream off the canopies as thin waterfalls

=Rustree Forests=
> Rustree Forests are the rough equivalent of Earth's temperate and taiga forests, representing the last vegetatively rich climate before the arctic
> These habitats are dominated by Rustree species that form sprawling crimson woodlands that, promote plant growth thanks to their efficient mineral cycling
> Winters in Rustree forests are a critical period where new land for young Rustree is made available as old tree are felled by the densely packed snow fall
> Unique habitat features include vivid seasonal fluctuations in temperature, patchworks of bog-like vernal ponds, and high inclination for arboreal mini ecosystems

=Glacial Tundra=
> The Glacial Tundra are cold, often dry landscapes accentuated by tower Glacial Walls that halt the advance of terrestrial life
> The very nutrient poor soil leads to sparse plant life, with most plant growth relegated in lush valleys, or along the coastal shores
> Glacial melt happens frequently in the summer months, with whole valleys of the tundra being submerged by in water pouring from the glaciers.
> Unique habitat features include large stretches of glacier carved moraines, lethal windstorm and hail fall, extreme and inhospitable winters, and numerous geothermal hot springs

Last three habitat descriptions and final notes in the final, FINAL post.
>>
=Glade Highlands=
> The Glade Highlands of Rienia are large plateaus of granite and limestone that often double as the foothills of Rienia's mountain ranges
> This is a temperate and relative dry climate, where what little rainfall does make it here carves into the rock forming streams and pools that most of its native animals rely on for water
> The lack of topsoil in this habitat, along with the rocky soil available being nutrient poor leads to plants competing for space and what nutrients are available
> Unique habitat features include the presence of Helium air pockets bubbling over the landscape, amphitheater-like valleys around mountain ascents, and deep, impenetrable fogs during the wet season

=Spiral Mountains=
> The Spiral Mountains are named so for their unique formation and appearance brought on by Rienia's heavier gravity, and more frequent tectonic shifting that twists and spires the ascending mountain ranges
> These drill-like mountains are comprised of densely packed rock, as well as rich veins of metal that are found exposed off the mountainside providing unique nutrients and minerals to the sparsely available soil
> Further up many of these mountains frozen peaks, organisms will be challenged with harsh, freezing conditions and a thin atmosphere that is unbreathable without specialization
> Unique habitat features include thin, terraced plateaus spiraling around the mountains, extreme wind squalls, higher UV exposure and frequently cloud covered landscape

=Gypsum Deserts=
> The Gypsum Deserts are sprawling expanses of desert dunes of gypsum crystals that make up some of the most ecologically devoid land in Rienia
> These ecosystems are often found in plateaus or raised land some two to four thousand feet above sea level where the normal water soluble crystals are trapped in the natural land troughs
> While these Deserts commonly experience very little precipitation, clouds of mist rolling from the ocean or nearby wetter climates will at times supplement moisture for the native animals to collect
> Unique habitat features include an overall highly reflective surface, an ever-changing landscape due to wind, salt water lagoons, and exposed, volcanically active rift valleys

That about concludes all the thread start information. Two final points, the first regarding the attached image here that is a blatant How-to Guide for any newcomers to this style of /qst/ game. I will state that these are quasi-hard rules, but I've been known to be lenient on individual creations in the past, so don't too hesitant to post.

Additionally, I would like to stress the following statement: PLEASE DO NOT USE THE DOSSIER PDF TO PULL ORGANISM IMAGES! Use the starting organism image posted here (>>5295044) so we don't have a blatant reduction in image quality.

That's it! Enjoy folks, and welcome to the continuation of the 2022 resurgence of /tg/ style EvoGames.

A variety of Troquid evolves that is further specialized in hunting Cyablight Meli. The Eons have resulted in the muscular, flipper-esque, becoming stronger and more elongated, Allowing for better maneuverability and short bursts of speed at the cost of being less able to maintain their velocity over longer stretches.

A mutation, that has been selected for as a result of their diet being mainly Cyablight Meli, is tumors in the Troquid's circulatory system. The Troquid produces a secondary, platelet based, component in their "blood" that reacts to the presence of the Luceferin hemotoxin, catching it and clotting up a while after coming in contact with it. The results are internal tumors that grow in size, number and luminosity as the Troquid ages.

A lot.

So they develop hard shells around their reproductive cells so that animals that eat them, especiall those with carnivorous teeth, don't digest them and instead poop em out somewhere else.

a quartett of gen 1 small creatures

1. Altahwa (gen 2)
their evolution was a foreseeable one and simple they grew extra fins for stabilisation and became sleeker a little their general behaviour has not changed much. all in all they are more energetic small fish-things than before.

2. Cavelurker hawa.
their origins are quite peculiar it is theorised that some bodies of water eroded the land beneath that they dissapeared in sinkholes with the fauna and flora with them.
whatever be the case the cavelurkers are here they can be found in great masses near underground lakes and rivers but they hunt on the moist walls of the caves. they climb with their spiny fins and slither around util they find a spot. their hunting strategy is simple they extend their lure ( a prehensile tentacle) from their forehead and wait for their prey which is (currently) the cave swirl. when the prey is ticking the lure the cavelurker attacks with one bite the prey is skewered and there is no chance to escape. then the cavelurker with the still living prey backs of into the water where they prey drowns, with the shortness of the digestion track digestion starts within the mouth. being oppurtunistic cannibals reproduction has no contact the females release their eggs (20/female) and the males fertilize them a few days later.

3.Melihelm
twice as large as they were yet thrice as heavy they are the ( current ) epitome of protection first and foremost with their rotund shell the chanches of flipping over has minimized at the downside that they need the lifting power to reproduce. and the armor skirt on their backs has minimized the attacks from behind again not without a downside that being their limbs tucked into the front making movement hard on land. and their tail has gone rather quickly with the incorporation of this new body type.
once every year from the shallows to the wetlands they start marching in colossal numbers to their mating waters which attracta a lot of oppurtunist predators. same goes for their larvae when they start migrating in seemingly endless white streams to the sea.

4. hitchiker bryum
a seemingly odd bryum plant that uses a modified quasi-root stem as a suction cup to attach itself temporary on larger freshwater fauna to make them in a sense mobile. other than that they reproduce asexualy. the start to focuses energy on one leaf until it dispatches itself as a seperate entity with it own small suction stem.

Having abandoned its old divebombing strategy, the Bolthead Shivralsa of the lowlands develops a much bulkier, stockier, and more muscular figure in order to support the weight of its carapaced extremities. What's more it also adopts a bipedal stance, as this allows it to, rather than having expend energy pouncing on its prey, simply drop its carapaced fists atop it, stunning it, if not smashing its shell open in one blow. With ever decreasing use for its neurotoxin, its gland becomes vestigial, with its hardened skin instead being replaced by a set of crushing jaws made of carapace. All these changes make the Bolt-Head a far more efficient hunter, allowing mature specimens to grow up to 79 centimeters tall.

With how common it is for organisms to seek shelter inside Rustree's, often forming an almost micro-biome within its bell, a species of Common rustree adapts to capitalize on this by developing a high up space away from predators which may house and shelter smaller animals that can climb up to it. In return the animals droppings, shedding's, and on rare occasions bodies, may fall into the digestive fluids housed at the bottom of the plant, nourishing it with nutrients that the plant would usually have to compete with detrivores and other plants for.

While the Ivory Longlegkot has reached a point of near invincibility due to its thick armor, putting it firmly at the top of the food chain, it runs into an issue where its heavy ivory armor and combined with its "less than optimal for running" body plan leaves it with a lack of mobility that makes it hard to hunt any variety of prey that can spot if before it gets within arms length of them, which isn't especially difficult to do considering that it's large and, once again, slow.

To mitigate this its able to spit acid over short distances. Key being "short".
The Ivory Longlegkot adapts to have a muscular, rubbery, membrain under its jaw that can stretch and fill with a large quantity of acid, before being contracted, launching vast quantities over acid over up to twice its body length, maiming and disfiguring it, rendering it incapable of running away, if not killing it outright.

Full disclosure: This plant is just kind of an asshole.
As the bloody rustree moves out of rustree forests and into the Ferrous forests with their massive, space hogging trees, it repeats a move of one of the most successful plants on the planet: It inverts. It does so to begin a two-pronged assault against its new opposition: Firstly, its root network begins extending overground, seeking out sapplings of Crustree variants through primitive chemical smelling. If there are any around, the roots extand to them and slowly smother and strangle them before they become large enough to take away room for the bramblestrangler.

This of course only works for a certain area and only for a certain size of tree. A second avenue of attack is in order: Poison. The bloody bramblestrangler uses its old ability of producing copper-infused blood to pump the ground full of concentrated copper it had previously extracted from deeper within the soil, where it had been harmlessly bound up in alloys. Once it is shit out into the top soil, it causes copper poisoning in those plants which are not already accustomed to it like other bloody rustrees or very hardy plants like Pertrands and Dangleshrubs.

Through this double assault, bramblestranglers slowly turn forests into bramble-deserts

inelegantly nearly trundling along the Glacial tundra comes this strange creature the Uncommon hawkie this ever watchful creature is a bit more cosmopolitan walking along the coastlines and valleys of the tundra lapping up moisture from rubicups with its raspting tongue perhaps sneaking in a bite when not snacking on stout ruby shrub rubbing up against them accidentally spreading there seeds often digging into the ubiquitous ruby crown mats being common subsisting on.

having its limbs directly under itself takes quite a bit less energy when moving compared having limbs splayed in all directions not having too actively lift itself up with each step.
the claws on its legs has become the only way it digs while the tail has atrophied more into a deterrent to things approaching it from behind wiggling in anxiety, you may notice all the eyes covering its body quite helpful in open areas noticing the predators approaching from any angle be it from above or behind at anytime even when face down busy rasping and pulping up plant matter

Sickled Kamikaze Shivralsa, have long thrived in their specialization as sole predator of Blimpahs, however this hunting strategy (while incredibly advantageous) is incredibly high risk, even compared to the Shivralsa's usual divebombing strategy: it requires the Shivralsa to leap from far higher up, at a far more unforgiving horizontal angle where gravity can't do all of the work for it. To help mitigate these problems the Shivralsa first developed longer limbs better oriented for leaping, and more noticeably it evolves it vestigial swimming membranes to stretch over said longer limbs, creating make shift gliders. While the Kamikaze can't "fly" perse, it can certainly glide, turn, and slow itself, while falling. This makes successful attacks far more likely, and failed attacks far less punishing.

On a side note, minor mistake in the dossier: Shivralsa's didn't evolve from Shivralikans. They share a common ancestor some where on the way back but I'm pretty sure the first Shivering Alsa's were on land before the first Shivralikans had even evolved.

Already using Bloody Rustrees as hives, many Swarmeli take taking this one step further: Developing a pair of gland at the back of their body, they're able to create a thick, purple, gunk that dries and hardens into a solid, rubbery, substance called a "Swarmatoma". Using this, the Tapper Swarmeli are capable of gradually building up vast hives inside their host tree. This allows them to be better sheltered from predators, protects its inhabitants better from extreme weather conditions, creates a safe place for eggs to be stored, and allows far more Swarmeli to live inside on tree than before.

The Pouch Hawkie's extended cloaca serves as a safe haven for it's aquatic young, filled with oxygenated fluid and protected by two rows of spikes. While this adaptation does make the Hawkie's reproduction much less dependent on the tundra's seasonal lakes, it also severely limits the amount of young the creature can spawn per cycle, and the larvae's destructive feeding process can often severely damage the oviduct's internal walls, increasing the amount of time needed before the creature can reproduce again.

While doing great in its Niche, the Bolthead Shivralsa isn't immune to competition: there are only so many Melscorps, and there'll be fewer for the Shivralsa to eat if Beefy Halikot >>5300293 are eating them. To help fight against this rising threat, the Bolthead develops aggressive territorial behaviors: attacking and killing rivals to its food supply on site. To aid in this, it puts its vestigial Neuro-Toxin Gland to use, with its venom being pumped through a pair of sharp carapace horns on the front of its head, which is uses to kill rivals. This targeted behavior included other bolt headed shivralsa.

Whach out, common swarmelli, a new contender for most prolific swarmelli is in town: The locust swarmelli is a variant with excellent (for a swarmelli varient) propulsion and very large swarm sizes as well as a well-closed-off carapcce to conserve moisture which is only used periodically to wet its lungs.

These locust swarmelli migrate between forests and lowlands in great big swarms and consume whatever biomass is available, often leaving behind an eaten-up wasteland. Such wastelands are important for their reproduction as they lay eggs which need dry, undisturbed soil. This is why they often return back to deserts for their egg laying.

One interesting note about the locust swarmelli si that their ravenous hunger only sets in when food is plentiful. During times where they can barely get their stomaches full, they will act much more like ordinary swarmelli.

Moving slowly along between the monoculture of Bramble, of drying crumbling soil and dead flora crushed under its bulk a living monument, its singular seemingly blank eye peaking so high above all around itself like a welded stuck
fish eyed periscope taking in its surroundings.

Slowly ponderously thinking like the slowest low-battery calculator on next move in a world so much faster then itself, heading towards food that's all around upon arrival digging with its limbs driving its mandibles into the soil under the roots HEAVING ripping, unearthing its meal before slowly cramming the whole thing into itself.

How these heavyweight creatures are even able to move at all, is by having its legs directly under itself pressing into the ground instead of splayed to the sides, accommodated by its flattened spread wider body segments acting as its "shoulders/hips" creates more shade on its legs, body and increase its surface area due too its sheer bulk and you may notice the tail and wide lower leg segments? simply its to brace against the ground ,legs serves double duty when not there to prevent sinking into the grounds softer parts its there to just be more area for blood to be circulated in for cooling, along with even the "horns" for temperature management, but the copper rich tails only function is to brace against the ground to make walking easier.

Melscorno may seem destructive to its one source of food they actively eat along with anything else accidentally consumed, but its a keystone species, killing alot of bramble is actually quite helpful long term for both by regulating the soil copper content by proxy, making room for them so it does not get too crowded.

Their hind limbs strengthen, to better support their weight, as their front limbs reorient and develop sharper, dagger-like claws, which aren't very useful for walking. The Long-Tongued Halivator uses these claws, along with their tusks, to dig through the swarmatoma walls of their preys' hives, either by stabbing through or tear chunks off. Then they use their long sticky tongue to sweep up swarmeli, before trundling off once they've had their fill.

--Ecological Progress Report: Early Rienia Early Metapurgaluxian Log 1--

Life during just the first few million years of the Early Metapurgaluxian Era is marked by the rise of new and more massive creatures emerging in aquatic and terrestrial climates, which has coincided with the warming of Rienia's climate due to the steady increase of greenhouse gases from volcanism. The ecological effects of these changes have thus far been a boon, with a more insulated atmosphere spurring more vegetation growth on land.

This would lead into the emergence and rapid proliferation of new genera from the Bloody Rustree, dubbed the Bloody Bramblestrangler. This virulent variety of plant has become wildly successful in the tropical climate of Rienia's Ferrous Forests, with their expansion visible from orbit as choking crimson veins stretched across the dense monoculture of Crustrees. Yet in spite of their grandiose arrival in Rienia's biosphere, these Bramblestranglers are kept reasonably in check thanks to the ravenous appetites of the Locust Swarmelli >>5303206 and the hulking Brambling Melscrono >>5303322 that revel in the bounty of new plants to feed on.

Some Rusparasites have found it easier to parasitize Bloody Rustrees: they don't have to dig as deep to get blood flowing into their roots, and the trees are far less likely to shake them off than animals are. Since a Rustree's crown is much softer than, say, a Melscorp's carapace, the Rusparasite often ends up "overshooting" and drawing out far more sap than necessary - which naturally attracts hungry Swarmeli.

For Troglo it would be counter intuitive and actually worse for them to evolve not to fear these colors so it holds up really well with time.

--World Event: The Tueur Impact, and The Splitting of the Shelf--

One of the drawbacks of lush worlds residing in the orbit of great gas giants is the ever prescient danger of meteors and meteorites being drawn into gas giant's gravity well and impacting the moons before it can sink the abyss of the giant. Seostea is no exception, but its far more massive gravitational pull has given clemency to Janus and Rienia, with only infrequent meteor showers lighting up the atmosphere with resplendent beauty. Most meteorites that broke through the atmosphere were either captured by seas of Janus and Rienia, or were too insignificant to impact the twin moon world's biospheres. This long held streak would be finally broken on Rienia some 20 million years after the start of the Metapurgaluxian Era.

Dubbed the Tueur Meteorite, this 7 mile wide mass of rock and ice careened towards Western Rienia, breaking up into smaller, but still powerful impact craters on the northern face of the ancient Split Shelf Landmass. This event had occurred at an auspicious moment in the Moon World's geological history, as the 200 million year ice age that had slowly been losing its grip on the world, would finally be broken with the Tueur Impact, which will mark the start of Rienia's new Hothouse Age.

The immediate impacts of this are comparably small, with much of the impacts hitting the arctic glacial walls, absorbing the worst of the impact, but at a far greater cost to Rienia in its future. For now though, the greatest impact would be deluge of long stored volumes of glacial water now rushing into the Lungen Sea, cutting the continent into two. Even with the entrance of winter, the outpouring of water would continue to flow, irrigating the typically dry Tundras of the Split Shelf, and transforming much of the still frostbitten land into swamp-like mires that fill the glacier-carved divets of the tundral north.

--Ecological Progress Report: Early Rienia Early Metapurgaluxian Log 2-
With over 20 million having passed, life in Western Rienia is continuing to steadily diversify, with many new land organisms beginning to proliferate across the landmasses. The recent Tueur Impact in the Northern Hemisphere has heralded the end of Rienia's Icehouse Period, with global temperatures now pushing the Moon World into its new Hothouse Period, although the global effects of this have been slow thus far.

In the Polar Latitudes and high altitudes, organisms have steadily evolved to adapt to a new changing world, with the Petra genera ( >>5313008) beginning to dominate the floral biota, providing a refuge for the remnant terrestrial photosynthesizers of Western Rienia. The Temperate Latitudes and the Subterranean realms have seen a flourish of new and bizarre life, such as the new Cavelurk ( >>5305581) ruling as the new apex predator of caves; meanwhile in the Rustree Forests new predators have risen to feast on the wealth of Swarmeli biomass, while new Rusparasites ( >>5305882)spread throughout the Rustrees thanks to the ravenous hunger of Swarmeli. The Tropic Latitudes and the Arid Mediterranean and Deserts of Western Rienia the Bloody Bramblestrangler ( >>5298931, >>5307930) continues to malignantly carve out territory within the tropical Ferrous Forests and Mediterranean scrubs, while the new Platerust genera ( >>5307789) further cements its role as a refuge for numerous new organisms that now regularly visit or reside within the Arid Mediterranean. Finally in seas and waterways of Western Rienia, there has been a recent flourish of new creatures filling the smaller animal niches of rivers, lakes and coastal seas alike.

--GM/Librarian Notes--
> Considering that Rienia is around 30% smaller than Earth, I'm considering not putting a hard emphasis on aquatic/marine species being geographically isolated, but this presently only a consideration. Terrestrial organisms are still allowed to be geographically isolated.
> Due to there still being a limited number of organisms interacting with the Bloody Bramblestrangler, I'm still not yet going to be defining them into their own unique biome, but the population is steadily overtaking the Ferrous Forest biome.
> A new Phylogeny Chart will be coming in the next couple of days, expect to start seeing some extinctions and a mass of newly endangered organisms (Read as: Red Flags) across the board.

With the extra range and accuracy its tubed snout, the Ivory Longlegkot finds itself needing less and less need for any sort of fast movement: why move at all when your prey is a pile of writhing, half dissolved, flesh. Taking this trend to its next logical extreme, the Ivory Longlegkot begin evolving their saliva to thicken into a rubbery, sticky, mucus rope when exposed to the open air. This allows it to use its spit as an effective tether, which it can fire at prey, sticking to it, pre-digesting to it, before pulling it in via suction, before shoveling the struggling animal into its mouth with its arms, liquifying them (dead or alive) in its salivary pouch before swallowing their remains for further digestion.

To further aid in this, the Ivory Longlegkot develops an even larger pouch capable of carrying an even larger acidic payload. this, compounded with its new tube tube snout, allows it to fire arcs of acidic saliva up to quintuple its body length if need be.

With less and less need for movement its loses its back legs, instead developing a longer tail to store more fat. It also adopts a far more sedentary lifestyle, laying half asleep in a hiding spot among crags or tall brush, resting its chin on an inflated acid sack, waiting for one of its many eyes to detect anything, be it a meslcorp, a bolt-head, or even a Beefy Halikot, to open fire on. This incredibly efficient hunting strategy allows the Ivory Longlegkot to grow to incredibly impressive sizes, up to 1.6 meters long, from nozzle to tail.
No longer identifiable for its long legs, the Ivory Longlegkot adopts a new moniker: the Ivory Gluttonid, named for its lazy, gluttonous, lifestyle

Pictured here, the Ivory Gluttonid sits among a crag, asserting its control over the land like a silver crowned tyrant. It spots an untaxed subject and spits at them, demanding its tribute of flesh and blood. The creature of the receiving end has no choice but to honor its obligation, of course it fights and struggles and insists at first, however eventually the struggling proves futile, and its compelled to stop, as their hard earnt calories are dumped atop the Gluttonids mountainous horde.

too hunt OLDER and older melscorp species offspring it started first with a particularly dumb sallow blimpah mistaking a rock for a melscorp AGAIN AND AGAIN until one day it dropped the rock on a bigger melscorp and now that was dinner this accident happened again and again from child to child bigger and bigger rocks with bigger and bigger sacks.
while dropping a rock ontop of prey if hits is a incredible bounty of food but this sudden shift in weight means that they need to vent alot of gas out of this new pair of side orifices to even reach the ground again this created another problem if they miss they cant reinflate fully unable too pick up a equally as large rock being forced to ineptly feeding on small weak melscorp species juveniles in the hope that it will not die before that and be able too pick up big rock again.
juvenile blimpah as they age and grow feed on progressively older melscorp prey many times in stages finding progressively bigger rocks that they can lift most often directly after feeding.
eyes point downwards a bit more for increased aim.
the physical changes are not as large as one would imagine shorter fatter arm, slightly longer articulated mouth, downwards pointing eyes, bigger gas sac with vents to adjust buoyancy, biggest change just being behaviorally.

--Ecological Progress Report: Early Rienia Early Metapurgaluxian Log 3--
Over 25 million years since the dawn of the Metapurgaluxian Era, life in Western Rienia finds itself in the midst of a ecological succession in a host of habitats. These changes have been largely influenced by the Post-Tueur Impact climate, as the Moon World enters its first Hothouse Period in nearly 200 million years, radically impacting Rienia's biosphere. The warming atmosphere has led to the now steady receding of ancient glaciers, opening new expanses of ice carved land to the Tundra, while the southerly reaches are now becoming new transition zones for the Rustree Forests and many other temperate habitats now shifting north. The additional ecological pressures of new and massive megafauna, along with the an incremental rise of in sea levels have pushed more than a few genera of Rienian organisms into extinction, with many other specialized organisms similarly pressed towards oblivion with the introduction of better equipped creatures now beginning to dominate the terrestrial and riparian habitats of Rienia.

A new and increasingly humid world is dawning on Rienia, and opportunity for new growth and further ecological succession looms on the horizon.

meat is easily digested and high in energy for its weight compared too fungal of vegetable matter of similar mass making it a excellent food source that does not need alot of intestines and hawkies of all sorts are a plenty.

longer legs packed with lean muscles carry it far and faster, the claws that are not used for more then digging have formed movable talons to rip into prey kept above the ground preventing it from growing dull.
when your "jaws" are simply a pair of pincers means you dont need to considering such things as swallowing or not making a gory glorious mess tearing it into small chunks for your actual mouth to gulp down mouthfuls of blood and toothless noming on chunks swallowing them nearly whole.

while not exclusive too splitshelf or as its sometimes known "splitshell" they are EXTREMELY numerous there due to the regular glacial melt rivers and lakes with cool oxygen rich water and the HUGE area the rivers and lakes cover.

7. Eggs not much to be said being buried the sticky eggs will start forming organs and such twhile being under and covered by silt/gravel and sand
6. Alevin this is the stage directly after hatching its "chin" protrusion, acting as part of its camouflage along with the trailing fin parts also act as sensory organs extending there sense of touch as a warning system while pretending to be the minuscule Chromatryum, there disguise is completed with there yolk sack that they will subsist on as there organs continue developing after awhile when there mouthparts have developed enough and sack shrinking will be feeding on miscellaneous organic particulates if they are able floating past them.
5. Fry having fully consumed the nutrients of there yolk sack, organs developed enough too consume more substantial food, disguised as rocks or gravel of sorts trying avoid being consumed by mel of all sorts with sensory noodles near hair triggers waiting if they should dart away from danger as they lay low to the bottom.
4.Parr are much more secure in itself but still laying low preparing itself for seawater it lower fins touching along the bottom hugging onto gravel chin wiggling around constantly touching in front of it.
3. Smolts are free swimming specimen sexually mature, but no extreme urge yet but will lay clutches and impregnating eggs along with the Sage but soon it will be moving out into the sea adjusting itself for a new lifestyle.
2. Adults are the most drab but fully committed lifestage too survival and Cultivating mass mating urges completely gone going fully into survival mode blending in among Altahwa and saving energy not accidentally trying to mate with them they will slowly grow larger and stronger hopefully coming into the next life stage but most perish before that.
1. The Sage having Cultivated into its final stage having grown one thousand times larger from a mere Alevin it started as in its great migrations where over 90% of its kin have perished a fast swimming creature of great stamina and reflexes returns to the spawning grounds time and time again too mate for the season, Its colors both showing its prowess with its sort of visual handicap that both confusing predators, attracting attention but also attracting all the Smolts for mating season digging the rows and rows of great pits tested depth with its rearmost fin too be covered in rubble and hidden away until its time again.

Salmalhwa
a large aquatic fish like organism found over numerous aquatic habitats.
like their predecessor they are very muscular and hydrodynamic most noticeable feature on the adults its large hump which contains the fat reserves and hooked mouth to uproot plants.
these organisms migrate often long distances especially when they search fo their breeding places.
they arive a few weeks before the>>5323802 to lay their eggs and after the other species laid their eggs their owns start to hatch growing fast eating their sibling species eggs and fry. the youth of the Salmalthwa are competitive ambush predators using their large jaws and teeth to gorge down anything smaller or equal in size nd after their first semester ( around 8 cm in lenght) the start to metamorphise their green see through green skin and muscles start producing red pigments en masse so their ability to camouflage themselves as leaves is impossible for them but they dont need that anymore. their teeth fell off and they become more and more docile fully converting themselves into herbivores.

less social then there ancestor they still live where ever is high or safe enough resulting in big collections of either species or individuals of the same species just being a happenstance because its a nice spot where they will just build there rubbery shelter sacks attached to surfaces be it vegetation or inanimate structures everywhere like fat dangling fruit sacks its also quite hard to tell them apart when inside there sacks only there head sticking out the only way to tell them apart is there mouth parts and head ridge or lack of.

First species we have the Swoop Taphop sweli they exist in in the rusttreee forest but also in the glade highlands where they glide efficiently great distances between valleys and cliffs for food, buildings there pods attached if not to plants to sheer rockfaces but mostly living on the right side of Splitshelf just where the Glades and Rustree forest touch so they are not so widespread or common.

Then we have the Buzzer Taphop sweli or "Buzzard" as they are called sometimes, there wings work hard hovering them over the mud and muck of quagmires and fields, having a extremely large flat habitat spanning the continents innards all over touching the edges of basically every habitat by living in the fertile lowlands on both side regularly crossing the distance at the bridge between the Rustree forest on the left and right and spreading from there makes them NUMEROUS noisy annoyances.

Both came from a common ancestor that quickly split in two who evolved greater oxygenation capacity bumping and beating with flapping of "bookcovers" moving up and down along with a extremely light compact frame even if longer

Sexual dimorphism can be quite powerful driving a species forewards males are attracted to bigger females as it could point towards there hunting ability being able to keep themselves feed and the quantity and quality of her possible eggs. both sexes evolved flipper fins derived from there sails able to scoop more water and spurs on there limbs derived from there armor and armored there upper body, males use there spurs in competitions against each other fencing, slashing, stabbing and camps on there back flippers too latch onto females, there armor comes in the form of there front skin being laced by a lattice weave of the material of the face forming a slash and stab resistant armor.

Females fencing spikes are fully lethal focused being punched slashed into rival females of the same species or wu-wei females encroaching on there territory there armor plates there upper body ready to take any blow but surprisingly thin and light for its appearance segmented for mobility, for fighting if the spiked flippers are not enough there bite is quite sharp dripping with corrosive saliva, the pointy streamlined head armors lower jaw corners are sharp enough to be used as a weapon striking or lashing with the upper body like a axe along necks colliding slamming into each other against the resistance of the water more useful along the surface, but faster underwater method is just swimming past letting the head ram blade running along the opponents body for more serious life or death battles. the lower body is not completely harmless lined with spikes on a series or interdependently mobile fins mostly used for agility and spurred lower fins. most combat between females like with males against males is ritualistic being chest to chest wrestling pressing slamming flippers punching and stabbing as necks collide often over there territories in the shallows seas.
males are often mistaken for wu-wei males if they do not display showing off there flippers and urinating marking there scent often dueling directly in front of females beating the piss out of each other

females are limited to the coastlines possibly just due too there size and hunting territories they have

females compete over these areas competitions involving speed and lashing into eachother when more serious or just wrestling chest against chest necks colliding thunderously plates grinding as they grapple on spikes hitting but not stabbing due to the proximity not allowing them they are so up in each others face huffing flashing tongues they cant actually do mostly fatal damage .

more serious fighting they swim at each other making passes full speed as the cheeks grinds into them leaving behind horrible gashes in the sides a method often used when hinting prey spikes on flippers protecting the membrane when not used as a weapon in itself.

the spikes on the fins themselves along can be used as a weapon but is a last ditch effort for what is normally just used to control for swimming

with the new shape and 4 strong fins the arrotroquid is capable of small 40km/hour bursts if it wants to escape or chase something down but after a few hundred meters they are so exhausted that they need imediate rest, so in this case they bury themselves in the sand and only their eyes poking out.

--World Event: The Hepatian LIP--

As the Moon World of Rienia approaches the midpoint of the Metapurgaluxian Era, a magmatic event in the Southern Hemisphere begins to kick the Rienian Hothouse into full swing. In the southern oceans of Western Rienia, the somewhat unremarkable landmass of Hepatia and the surrounding continental shelf is ruptured by a series of magma plumes, seeping molten rock through the exposed crust. This event has a three-fold effect on the region, with the first and more immediate being the scorching of the Hepatia Isle, with only a few pockets of Tundra and the residing organisms within being unscathed and later repopulating Hepatia. The second and more long term effect in the localized region is an exponential increase in surface area over the course of millions of years, in addition to the exposure of ice covered land on the small landmass that has now been thawed out by the constant flows of mantle onto the surface. The last and global effect though is the belching of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere of Rienia, warming the planet at a now far more rapid pace.

As the Moon World of Rienia steadily enters into the Late Metapurgaluxian, the more consistent temperature increase will see a dramatic loss in the once presumed permanent ice caps, resulting in rising sea levels, climatic shifts in ecosystems and the revealing of new and untouched lands that had been locked under the once indomitable glacial ice caps of Rienia.
