Welcome back.

Rules are simple: Votes are tallied every hour, with whatever course of action being the most popular being the course of action taken. Write ins are encouraged and non-mutually exclusive votes will be combined if possible.

When a roll is called for, roll a D100 unless otherwise specified.

For a short summary for the new and to recap:

You are Alex. A newly minted trainer and camping enthusiast just starting out on your journey at the age of Seventeen after your father lost his job in order to help pay the bills.

Last time, your egg hatched into a Riolu, you made it to the halfway roadhouse on the way to Silveridge, met your long lost childhood friend Jacky, learned she's the current champion, meditated with Gareth, battled a bratty kid who tried to catch a Riolu and Lucario meditating with him and did some training with Gareth, during which Sage evolved.

"I think these two want to settle this." You note as Rusty and Druddigon continue to stare each other down.

"It does look that way, doesn't it?" Gareth agrees. "Alright then." He adds with a shrug. "We'll both call at the same time."

"Sounds like a plan." You agree.

"Alright... Metal Claw." Gareth orders.

"Rock Tomb." You counter.

Rusty and Druddigon move at the same time, Rusty launching another barrage of rocks while Druddigon swings at him.

Unfortunately, Ructy's barrage goes high and falls harmlessly around and behind Druddigon, while Druddigon's aim is spot on, though he's not particularly hard in his hit, knocking Rusty reeling and fetching him up on his belly, panting softly.

"...You know, I was kind of expecting them to knock each other out." Gareth says, bemused. "Thanks though. This was great training."

"Yeah, we should do this more often." You agree as you both recall your respective pokemon.

"Just so long as it doesn't turn into another situation where we're both busy, that sounds like a plan." Gareth says. "Go for a round three?" He asks.

You shake your head.

"No, I better get Sage and Rusty looked at." You reply.

"Probably a good idea." Gareth admits, before you both head in.

Just in time, as it turns out, as rain starts to fall again.

After you've both left your pokemon with the nurse, you return to where the others are sitting.

"What was all that with those kids?" Fie asks you after you're comfortable.

"We were meditating and a Riolu and Lucario showed up to investigate." Gareth explains.

"They were meditating along with Gareth and one of them was going to try and catch them." You explain.

"Ah." Fie says, then sighs. "That old chestnut."

"It's probably a good thing that Alex did stop him from catching that Riolu though." Gareth says. "The Lucario was not[/i] about to see me or anyone catch his brother."

"Still, I'd be careful in future." Fie warns. "The kid wasn't doing anything technically wrong, he was just being a jackass."

"It's a distinction without a difference, really, but you're more likely to be the one to get pulled up for being an asshole." Martha adds. "I'd say the only reason no one else has, is because Jacky intervened." She added.

"Probably." You agree.

You have to suppress your irritation somewhat at the thought of not being able to pull people up for bad behaviour like that, but it is what it is, you suppose.

You just hope that Rufflet can stay out of trouble for the time being.

Tell him not to fight inside.

See if we find those kids again and talk to them calmly.
Tell the brat he might have a chance to catch a Riolu tomorrow if he's willing to listen to you.

(have his brother read out the entry for him and then explain how they can catch a Riolu if their elders approve of them for displaying any interesting skill instead of a pokemon battle)

You can't just leave well enough alone where that kid is concerned, so with a sigh, you stand, cast around to try and find them, then upon locating them, head towards their table.

The younger of them is definitely sulking and upon seeing you, his brother shakes his head subtly.

You get the impression of a lot of resentment towards you from the younger of them, so he probably isn't going to be inclined to listen to you.

With a shrug, you reverse directions towards the back door and come face to face with the nurse coming back in.

"Was there something else?" She asks. "I was just spraying some Repel." She explains. "There was a Rufflet hanging around the seats and we can't really afford to have Lucario hanging around and baling up trainers to fight."

"Did you see where that Rufflet went?" You ask.

"Off into the scrub." The Nurse replies. "Although, if I were to guess, I doubt he's gone very far." She adds. "He wasn't spooked when I came out. Is he yours or is he following you?" She asks.

"He's following me. And there doesn't seem to be much I can do about it." You reply.

The nurse sighs.

"That's an issue." She says. "A wild pokemon who's not scared of paople like that could wind up doing someone an injury." She adds.

"That's actually why my arm is bandaged up." You admit. "Actually, come to think of it, the stitches are about due to come out."

"I can take care of that once I'm finished healing your pokemon." The nurse says. "But I'd advise you to either catch that Rufflet or send it packing before the Rangers wind up involved." She says.

"I'll keep that in mind." You assure.

It's starting to get dark now and with the rain, night is going to come on very quickly.

You look outside. It's raining, cold, wet and starting to get dark.

No one in their right mind would go out in this weather, so Rufflet is probably not going to be an issue until at least tomorrow.

Still... He's followed you this far and done his best to keep a look out. You can't help but admire his dedication.

You go and retrieve your coat, then Rusty and Sage and head for the back door again, where you're intercepted by Fie.

"The nurse told me what she said." Fie says, bundled up in her own coat. "If you're going looking for Rufflet, you're not bloody well doing it alone." She adds.

You have to chuckle at that. Plus, you had forgotten about the buddy system rule.

As it turns out, he hasn't gone particularly far.

You've just left the boundary of the arena out the back and strobed your torch up into a tree and there he is, perched in a bough and looking thoroughly unamused.

He perks up and flutters down to hover in front of you immediately, which is vaguely terrifying, but you're not going to let that stop you.

"Hey. You still want to come with me?" You ask him.

He caws, before landing on your shoulder and striking a pose. He's surprisingly heavy for such a small pokemon.

You have to chuckle, at least a little as you hold up a poke ball for him.

"Glad to have you along." You say as he disappears.

There's a click, before Volta's ball vanished, in accordance with the condition you set and then you and Fie both are hurrying back to the pokemon centre.

"Well, that was quicker than I expected." Fie admits as you divest yourselves of your coats and go sit down again.

"Not *everything* is a disaster with me." You say modestly, earning a chuckle from everyone else. "Anyway, I'm going to get my stitches out." You say, before heading up to see the nurse.

"You've dealt with that Rufflet then?" She asks, noting your damp clothes.

"Come to an understanding with." You correct as she gives back Rusty and Sage.

"Well, so long as the Rangers aren't going to bother either of us, I suppose it doesn't matter either way." The nurse says. "Come on, I'll get those stitches for you." She says, gesturing towards the surgery proper.

Getting your stitches out is a relatively quick, if slightly uncomfortable procedure, but when the nurse is finished, your arm feels a lot better, even if your arm is covered in a tracery of still somewhat tender scars that show pink against your skin.

"Be more careful in the long grass next time." The nurse advises you, without heat, before you return to your table.

You yawn after you've been sitting down for a minute.

"It's... a bit like that..." Fie agrees as you set everyone else off yawning.

"We've been going pretty hard the last couple of days." Martha notes.

"Let's just make an early night of it." You suggest. "Have tea, then just... call it." You say as you stifle another yawn.

"Yeah... got to get to Silveridge tomorrow..." Jean agrees.

When the nurse rings the bell for dinner, you're first in line.

Camp cooking is great, but after the last four days, a hot meal made by someone else is heaven, particularly as the wind howls outside and the rain comes down.

And the fact it's something as greasy as potato bake is just a layer of decadence you can really get behind right now.

You all finish quickly before filing up to your rooms and turning in.

You're asleep almost as soon as your head hits the pillow and you fall into a deep, dreamless sleep.

Those little bastards can go to hell. Clean everything, then lay out traps. Sticky, bait, poison cubes, everything around your house, and AROUND your house on the outside. If you think you are using too much, you're not. Closets, bathrooms, living rooms, kitchen bedrooms, garage, attic, and the basement/crawl space. Check the traps and replace them as necessary. If you see a live one caught, kill it while it is on the trap. This will tell the other mice you are not fucking around and they will begin to avoid the house. Chances are if you see 1, there are probably 10 more in the walls.

You're jolted awake by your pokedex pinging a message.

You have a look and see it's actually a half hour before you normally wake up.

The message itself is from Jacky, inviting you to train with her.

It's a tempting offer, if nothing else but your body sure doesn't feel up to it. Fit as you are, your legs feel like lead.

The more you think about it, the more worthwhile it sounds.

You haul yourself out of bed and dress quickly before heading down to the lounge, grab a quick drink from the self-service kettle, then head out the back where Jacky is training.

You half expected her to be practicing something advanced with something like a Dragonite, but instead, she's frowning at her pokedex along with a Shinx as they study a demonstration of Thunder Fang.

"You know, if you had've come out to do some training last night, I could've gotten my Luxio to demonstrate that." You say conversationally, causing the both of them to jump.

"Arceus, Alex." Jacky says, patting her chest and grinning. "You scared me." She shook her head to clear it. "You have a Luxio?" She asks, startled.

"That's right." You confirm. "Are you raising another team?" You ask.

Jacky nods.

"Yeah, I want to raise another team from scratch." She admits. "No gym challenge, just focus purely on training. It's going alright so far." She adds. "I'm not obligated to use the team I won the League with as my 'Champion' team, so I thought raising a 'B-Team' in case some of my more experienced pokemon got hurt might be an idea." She explains.

"Makes sense." You agree with a nod.

"So, what other pokemon have you got, besides the Riolu you mentioned?" She asks.

You look around, before releasing your team, one after the other, ending with Latias.

Jacky stares.

"I've got a few others, but this is my current team." You say as Rufflet flutters up to your shoulder and Latias gives you a friendly bump before circling Jacky curiously.

"...Where the hell did you catch a *Latias?*" She asks incredulously.

"I've got just the thing." Jacky assures, retrieving a bunch of berries.

As it turns out, a good night's sleep makes all the difference.

Within ten minutes, both Nika and Sage have found their balance and are walking confidently, Nika going so far as to run about as she eats the berry that Jacky gave her, before jumping into your arms as you come back with a bottle of formula for her.

Sage is a little more reserved, contenting herself with trying to find a stick, but she doesn't seem to be having much luck, this close to the pokemon centre.

"Well, that was nice and simple." Jacky admits as she plays with her Shinx, in between attempts at Thunder Fang. "What're you thinking of next?"

"I'll leave Sage to keep looking." You say, before arranging an agility drill for Kay O-o and Rusty, before looking to Rufflet.

"You want to try learning something new?" You ask him.

He caws in response and flaps up to hover in front of you.

"Alright, this is what we're going to do. It's called Aerial Ace." You say, showing him the demonstration video.

"Solid choice." Jacky agrees. "I'll throw if you like." She offers, before swearing as Shinx gives a yowl, having apparently accidentally bitten its own tail while she wasn't looking somehow.

"...Nevermind, I better go get this little guy looked at." She says apologetically, before taking off.

Now alone, it's up to you to find sticks to throw for practice.

You start off with twigs so as not to get in Sage's way, although she soon starts bringing you her rejects as you throw them for Rufflet to practice his accuracy on until you're sure that he's got that part down, before you switch to the sticks Sage is piling for you so he can practice using the move with more force.

The whole time, you're aware that Kay O-o is watching intently and clearly taking note.

If you had any doubt as to whether Rufflet would have troubles, the first flawless execution he does on the first stick you throw of Aerial Ace puts them to rest.

What's more surprising, is that Kay O-o intercepts the second stick with a perfect Aerial Ace on the second stick and it soon turns into a competition as to who can break more, until, by the time Jacky returns, the arena is littered in little pieces of stick and the porch spotlight has turned off as it's light enough to properly see by.

"...Wow, you've got a talent for this." Jacky says. "I was thinking I might be able to give you some pointers or something, but I guess you don't really need them." She adds.

"Thanks for the invite anyway." You say. "Maybe you could teach us something?" You suggest.

"Hm..." She looks thoughtful for a minute. "Maybe. What do you have in mind?" She asks.

You're interrupted however, as Rufflet begins to glow.

You half expect Rufflet to pull off some crazy move, but instead, his outline wavers and expands, until, with a flash, where once was a small oddly-proportioned bird pokemon, there's now a Braviary that's as tall as you are fluttering down to land and examine himself.

"...Hot damn..." You manage dumbly as Jacky looks between the both of you, before Rufflet starts strutting back and forth, apparently feeling very pleased with himself.

As he well might, you suppose.

"Look at you, all grown up." You say, stepping forward cautiously to give Braviary a pat on his broad back.

He preens at this and leans into your touch, encouraging you to go harder, earning you a pleased caw as you oblige him.

"Can you teach Braviary Fly and Roost?" You ask after a moment's thought.

"Sure, that's easy enough." Jacky says, digging two TMs out of her bag leaving you to watch and work on your own morning routine, which rapidly turns into playing with Nika and Latias as Sage gives up on finding a stick she's satisfied with for the time being.

You watch Jacky as she teaches Braviary first Roost, which takes no time at all, since taking a break isn't exactly an acquired skill, and then Fly, which is somewhat more involved, but which unsurprisingly, Braviary has little trouble picking up, hitting the target sticks Jacky throws into the air for him easily and when she releases a Salazzle to stand in for a passenger, he has little trouble carrying it around on a quick jaunt either.

By the time she's finished, it's properly day time, you're wide awake and ready to get back on the road and Braviary is likewise in high spirits.

"Thanks, Jacky." You say with a grin.

"No problem. It's the least I can do." She says.

"Oh, by the way..." You say. "I was going to call you last night, but the last few days caught up with all of us. Fie suggested you might talk with Wendy about your troubles with harrassment and the media." You say. "Apparently, she's got a good rep and legal team."

She stops, then buries her face in her hands as she blushes and groans with what you recognise as mortification and regret.

"Arceus above, why didn't I think of that!" She says, before composing herself. "...C-can you thank Fie for the tip for me?" She asks. "I guess I'd better go to Galeport once I've visited home." She says sheepishly.

"Sure thing." You assure as you recall your team for the time being.

"So..." Jacky says, shifting from foot to foot and looking around with an attitude of anxiety. "I guess this is the last we'll see of each other for a while. Again." She says.

"I guess so." You reply with a nod.

"A-are you seeing anyone?" She asks, sounding a little nervous.

"I've got something going on with Fie." You admit.

Jacky grins.

"You do have a thing for redheads then." She more states than asks, before stepping smartly forward and pulling you into a hug.

"I know I'm a bit late, but if I don't do this now, I'm never going to." She says, before kissing you with her brand of single-bindedness.

Your brain circuits. This seems to be happening a lot lately.

As a slight clarification: You didn't break up owing to the fact she ran away without thinking much about anything besides the journey and you were both 13-14 at the time and clueless about the whole dating thing.

There was some mutual attraction, but neither of you had any clue what to do with it.

The kiss stretches.

And stretches. Jacky is clearly enjoying herself the way she's moaning into the kiss.

And stretches.

Arceus *above* she's got it bad for you.

Then you hear the door opening, followed by a gasp that gives way to a snort, followed by a completely undignified giggle.

Jacky freezes and steps away, flushed and looks to see who's interrupted you.

It's Fie and it's debatable whether she can actually breathe right now with how hard she's laughing.

You spare a glance at Jacky, whose gone about as red as her hair at this development.

Fie closes the door and straightens, wiping tears of mirth out of her eyes as she saunters over.

"You were not kidding." She says conversationally.

Surprisingly, not to you, but rather to Jacky.

"H-how long have you been standing there?" She asks, mortified.

"Long enough to wonder when the last time you got off was." Fie replies. "I know you said at the regional exhibitions that if you ever caught up with your old flame you'd kiss him until you both passed out, but hot damn, it's another thing to see you trying to do just that." She says, before putting a hand on Jacky's shoulder. "Just so we're a hundred percent clear though: Alex and I are an item." She says, firmly and clearly. "I don't know if thing's are going to work between us long-term, but don't you go trying to muscle in."

Jacky nods mutely, still bright red.

Fie nods, once, in satisfaction, before turning to you.

"We're just going to eat and take off." She says.

"Right." You say, nodding, before turning to Jacky. "Take care of yourself." You trail off. "...I guess if we don't bump into one another on the road, I'll see you at the League." You add lamely after a stretch as you try to find some way to tie things off.

Jacky nods again.

"Y-yeah..." She says. "I hope so." She adds, before you both head in.

Jacky heads upstairs immediately, presumably to pack, while your things are piled with the others' bags at a table while the others are busy eating.

There's a spare tray loaded down with food waiting for you as well.

"So, did I miss anything?" Fie asks you with a grin as you both sit down.

"Ooh, nice." Fie says.

The fact she sounds genuinely interested and not at all angry or even huffy is putting the wind up you.

"So, um... Jacky taught him Fly and Roost while I did some exercises with Nika." You add, before you pause. "You're not angry?" You ask, uncertainly.

you've got the overwhelming urge to get down on one knee and grovel for forgiveness, but you get the overwhelming impression that Martha would slap you senseless if you did something so melodramatic.

"Nope." Fie explains. "Jacky did warn me she was going to do that if she ever saw you again, though not specifically. I didn't know she meant you until you until you told us you knew her last night." She admits. "I'm more surprised that she did, but I guess she follows through on stuff like that to a fault."

"She say she was going to do anything else?" Martha asks with a smirk, making Holly, who's sitting across from her blush and Judy giggle.

Fie grins.

"Maaaybe~" She says.

Now it's your turn to blush at thoughts *that* puts in your head.

"I'm really not good at being firm or pushing people away." You admit awkwardly.

"I noticed." Fie says. "You're probably going to want to work on that before we get to Saltcoast." She adds. "Some of the beach bunnies and Incineroars there are going to eat you alive otherwise."

"Incine- Oh." You say with a jolt as you realise what she means.

The others laugh, before you see Jacky coming back down with her bag packed.

She smiles and nods.

"Yeah." She agrees. "Wish I'd made time to come home earlier." She admits, before shifting her pack. "...Good luck." She says at last, before waving and setting off down the path again.

You breathe a sigh of relief you hadn't realised you'd been holding as you watch her go, before heading for the PC.

To your surprise, there's signal and the teleporter is working this morning,at least for the time being.

For the time being though, you decide to do some more training, but first, you head back to your table.

"By the way, Gareth..." You say.

He looks up at you questioningly.

"The nurse sprayed some Repel last night, so you might have to go a little further afield than last night to find Riolu and Lucario again."

He nods.

"Alright, I'll go have a look after this."

This taken care of, you finish your breakfast before heading out to train.

"Alright, watch close, Nika." You tell her. "This'll be important."

She nods as she suckles on the teat, before you go and release Braviary, Kay O-o and Rusty, before searching up a good demonstration of Rock Smash for them and after a brief look around, bringing some from out of the scrub to use as targets for them.

It takes them a few tries, but after a while, they each manage to break their rocks, then again and again until you're satisfied they can do it consistently.

You keep tabs on Nika to ensure she's watching and sure enough, she is, even going so far as to come over to you when she's finished her bottle for a better look at what the other three are doing, before taking aim at a larger chunk left in the aftermath and crushing it into powder herself with an over-exaggerated punch, before looking to you for approval.

"Good girl." You say, giving her a pat, to her evident delight as she leans into your touch, before you turn your attention to the other three. "And good job to you guys as well." You add. "At this rate, we're going to be well and truly ready for Silveridge Gym."

You do a bit more practice before recalling everyone and heading to the PC.

Fortunately, it's still working, even after another half an hour.

First thing's first, you call home and after a brief discussion with your mother, send Sage home, opening up a spot on your team.

++"Do you want me to send Fluffy over to you?"++ She asks. ++I've taught him a few moves like you asked and he's grown a little bit since you last saw him."++ She adds.

"I'm considering it, I've just got another call to make first." You say.

Your mother nods before you call Ethan.

The phone rings a few times before he picks up and brightens as Syurm peeks over his shoulder.

She's grown a lot since you last saw her, despite the fact it hasn't quite been a week.

++"Alex! Up bright and early I see."++ Ethan says. ++"Syurm's learned heaps. Even won a couple of Gym battles standing in for Weedle for me."++ He says as Syurm preens at this.

"Really?" You ask, startled.

++"Yeah, second-badge level matches, but she really blindsided a few trainers. I didn't want to use her as part of my team, but she kept showing up to matches, so I decided to humour her."++ He explains. ++"I tried to call you about it, but you were out of range. I was going to try again this morning, actually."++ He admits.

"It's fine, just as long as she's alright." You assure.

++"I take it you want her back?"++ Ethan asks.

"That's right." You confirm. "I met let her visit some other time though, if she enjoyed herself that much." You add with a grin.

Syurm perks up at this, before Ethan recalls her, before shortly, her ball appears beside her.

++"Alright, well good luck with Darren."++ Ethan says. ++"He prides himself on tripping people who think they're looking at an easy win up."++

"I'm looking forward to facing him." You assure, before the call ends.

Tom and Sarah should be off to school soon, but you might be able to catch them if you call home now.

Before you do anything, you release Syurm, who chitters happily before webbing herself onto your shoulder and settling in her accustomed spot.

She's surprisingly heavy compared to the last time you did this, but not uncomfortably so.

"Good to have you back. You miss me?"

She chitters again and nods.

"Same." You assure her as you make the call home.

It's the school-hour rush when your dad picks up, but he brightens as he sees you.

++"You're calling early."++ He observes. ++"Something happen?"++

"Not as such, I've just got a pokemon for Tom." You explain.

++"That's a relief. He's been taking good care of your Eevee and Growlithe, but he's been sulking about the fact you caught Sarah a Vulpix."++

"Well, if you give mum a ring and ask about the Sobble I caught, it's for him." You explain.

++"A Sobble?"++ Your dad says, taken aback and more than a little shocked. ++"You've certainly got a talent for finding rare pokemon."++ He observes.

You shift uncomfortably.

"I've gotten really lucky so far." You say modestly. "Can I talk with Tom?" You ask, giving him a wink.

He nods, before calling Tom over.

Your little brother hurries over, looking excited.

"Hey, Alex." He says. "What's up? I've been taking good care of your pokemon for you." He assures.

You can't help but grin. Your brother is nothing if not earnest to a fault.

"Just got a few pointers there for you." You say. "And wanted to check up on some stuff. How's Blitz been, taking it easy? Not giving Arcanine too much trouble?" You ask.

Tom nods.

++"Yeah, he's running around all over the place. He's been wrestling with that Luxio you sent home last night as well."++ He adds.

"Okay, try and get them to race instead of wrestle." You say as one of your concerns is confirmed. "I don't want them to wind up hurting themselves getting carried away." You say.

++"'Kay."++ He says nodding.

You nod before rattling off a list of other things to keep in mind regarding your team, including making sure Piker has plenty of Pecha Berries to eat and that he helps him practice with Water Gun and to keep up the good work with the rest of your team and to otherwise keep up his good work with school.

By the time you're finished, your dad's back with Sobble.

"...Anyway, you've been doing a great job so far." You preface, before nodding behind him. "So, I think you're ready for a pokemon of your own. Just don't go skipping school." You advise.

It's debateable Tom heard the last part as he spins around, then gasps as your dad hands over Sobble to him, before he turns back to you and you have to suppress a chuckle at just how very alike Sobble and your brother look just then.

++"...Thanks, Alex."++ Tom manages thickly, before Sarah calls him in the background and he runs off with a last 'gotta go.'

Your dad chuckles as he goes.

++"Was there anything else?"++ He asks.

"Did you know she was regional champion?" You ask.

++"I'd heard something about it from Daniel at the Gym, but that was a while ago."++ He admits. ++"I wasn't sure it was our Jacky though."++ He adds.

"Hm. Just find it odd I hadn't heard." You explain.

++Well, you know what it's like here..."++ Your dad says, though he sounds a little uncomfortable.

You quickly gather your things before heading out.

It's not raining, even if the clouds haven't broken and you're all eager to take advantage of that fact.

Syurm seems content to ride on your shoulder and doesn't seem inclined to abandon her position. Evidently she's as happy to be with you as you are to have her back. Especially considering that once you've taught her Secret Power, you're going to have a lot more options when it comes to camping.

You've not been walking more than a quarter of an hour before Gareth stops and the Lucario and Riolu from the previous day step out, accompanied by a second Riolu.

This one looks to be slightly smaller than the first, but after a tense moment, he walks up to Gareth before looking up at him hopefully.

In response, Gareth leans down and produces a poke ball and after a moment, Riolu taps the activator and disappears. When it clicks, he stands and releases Riolu, before giving him a treat, before Lucario nods and he and the first Riolu disappear back into the scrub.

"Congrats, Gareth." Holly says, echoing your own thoughts.

"Yeah, nice going." You agree as you all start walking again.

"This doesn't seem real." Gareth admits as his Riolu walks alongside him, chewing happily.

After a moment's thought, you bring out your own pokedex and bring up Braviary's entry, before registering the name 'Rascal', before putting it away and focusing on the walk.

You're tempted to let him out to fly, but considering how much of an effort he's put in lately, you decide to give him a break. At least for a while.

The weather holds fair throughout the morning and even starts to clear somewhat around mid morning, allowing the sun to shine down on the cold, damp trail, providing a touch of warmth to deaden the chill permeating everything.

Syurm chatters and lays herself out across your shoulders to bask in it as the clouds break up enough for it to be obvious the break is going to be for a few hours at minimum.

It kept on raining through the night and there's water everywhere off the sides of the road.

A fact that a lot of pokemon are taking advantage of off the sides of the road to get a drink.

You see more than a few Aron gathered around puddles drinking happily, along with a few Mareep, though you're unsure if they're wild or simply strays from a farmer's herd.

You're making good progress and you're confident you'll be able to make Silveridge by the middle of the afternoon at this rate.

As you walk, you keep an eye out for trainers.

Given the last couple of days, you don't have much hope for there being many trainers on the road, but as it starts getting toward lunch time, you 're proven wrong as you spot a couple of women maybe a few years older than you.

Even from where you are, you can hear them complaining about the cold.

Trailling a little behind them are a kid a little younger than you with a pack that looks about as loaded up as yours and another man about the same age as the two women with his own equally heavy looking pack.

Neither of them look particularly happy either, though it seems to be less with the weather and more with their companions.

The group perks up as they see you and wave.

"Hey! Are you guys trainers? Anyone want to battle?" One of the women calls.

"Sounds good to me." You say.

It isn't long before you've moved to the side of the road and taken position, with Fie officiating.

"Go, Chinchou." The woman says, not waiting for you to release your pokemon and sending out a small fish with two glowing barbels.

"That's kind of presumptive." Martha notes. "Acting like your opponent doesn't know what they're doing."

"Whoops. My bad." The woman replies, though she doesn't really sound contrite or like she really cares for this point of etiquette.

It is a little patronising, but you're not going to argue if she's going to hand you an advantage.

You look up at Syurm.

"Alright Syurm, let's see what you learned from Ethan." You say.

She chitters before string shotting herself down to the ground.

"Chinchou, Thunderwave!" The woman orders before you even have a chance to think.

Judging by how Fie frowns, this is very poor sportsmanship.

Still, You're confident that Syurm can out-speed Chinchou and there's always Protect.

In response, Syurm spits a jet of black gunk at the Beauty's Chinchou, striking it full in the face and leaving it gasping as the orb of crazily weaving, pulsing light strikes her in turn, leaving her reeling.

"Okay Chinchou, Volt Switch!" The Beauty orders.

This is getting irritating, but at least she's giving you all the information you need to counter her in advance.

The question is whether you keep Syurm in and chance that she hurts herself from confusion or swap and hope for a better match-up.

So, with stall chains or set-up blocs like this, I'll only do them up until there's information that changes the flow of battle, which a pivot or something like Confuse Ray does.

In this specific case, Chinchou has both, so I feel it's a little unfair to not give people a chance to adapt in the face of those sorts of moves.

Chinchou crashes into it and bounces off.

That would've been a hard hit if Syurm's barrier had failed.

"C'mon, quit stalling and battle." The Beauty said.

"This is a battle." You retort. "This isn't a date and I'm not going to simp for you if that's what you were counting on."

"EXCUSE ME!?" She all but shrieks, outraged. "Chinchou, Electro Ball!" She orders.

Fie's eyebrows shoot up and you see her trying hard not to grin.

Right, feeling somewhat better and am back at my computer.

So, what happened was, I got asked to help with marking lambs at a farm my father manages, since he wanted to hang out and throw me some work.

I was trying to catch a lamb that had jumped the fence back over with the ewes and the little fuck slipped my grip when I bent to pick him up and put me off-balance I then slipped and fell and tried to break my fall and in the process, fell on top of my arms and in the process, dislocated both my shoulders.

-10/10, would not recommend.

Still undecided if I'll use the experience here somehow.

"Sticky Web." You order.

Syurm quickly shakes off Confuse Ray's disorientation, then weaves the web over Chinchou's side of the field as it charges an orb of electricity before hurling it at Syurm.

There's a massive surge of electricity that almost blinds you but on the other side of it, Syurm is still up, but only just. You reckon another hit will knock her out, but Chinchou isn't looking particularly great now that the poison in its system has gotten rolling.

Pointedly, the Beauty hasn't given another order now, apparently waiting to see what you'll do next.

"Synthesis." You order.

"Chinchou, Electro Ball again!" The Beauty orders.

It's precisely as Syurm starts to glow and recover that the clouds break and the sun shines down bright, boosting the healing she receives and undoing basically all the harm of the previous Electro Ball in time for this next, far weaker one to wash over her.

She's still very much in this fight while Chinchou looks like a stiff breeze could knock it over now. You're not sure whether Ethan really intended to do this much with Syurm, or if he just got carried away, but whatever the story is, the results are plain to see.

Then, Chinchou faints as its attempts to stay awake prove fruitless.

"Chinchou is out." Fie declares as the Beauty recalls her first pokemon.

"Tch. Lucky." The Beauty says icily. "Go, Nidorina!" She says, releasing the poison type into the Sticky Web where it's almost immediately having to fend off the clinging thread.

Between Venoshock and the poison, he's not in a great spot, but he looks relieved after you give him a Pecha Berry, taking care of the poison.

There're some Sandshrew poking their heads out of their holes to see if the rain has stopped, along with Geodude and you even see a Rockruff drinking from a puddle, but it seems that if there are any other loose or wild Mareep around, they're not here.

It's not that surprising though.

Going to need something to help dig out ground for a farm. Removing large rocks. Digging out tree roots. Are we going to give Rusty to James full time? Because that is what I am suggesting we do with the sandshrew. Cause you need to do a lot of digging to start a farm. You ever have to install a bunch of fence posts without heavy machinery? Using a postal digger sucks ass. I have to use one to install ground anchors at my job.
>>
>>5313127
You are right. It isn't viable to have Rusty at the place all the time.
I was planing on sending Rusty over to James for specified nutrition in preparation for evolving (Calcium/Protein supplements and the Iron scraps we asked for) and to spend the time doing some work with digging/smashing up rocks that are in the way.

Why don't we catch both Rockruff and Sandshrew then?

Of the three, you decide that going after Rockruff is the best bet, if for no other reason than it'd be a great help to your dad with digging holes and fencing and hearding Miltank.

This in mind you head off the track to get a better aim at it.

"Syurm, Electro Web!" You order, releasing her near Rockruff, which looks up, startled before being hit with the electrified net of silk and yelping in shock, before retaliating with a Sand Attack.

It looks rather hurt after the surprise attack and rather like it would like to run if it can.

I never did put my full reasoning on why I wanted the Sandshrew and not the Rockruff. So I am going to post it now just in case it comes up again in the future. Sandshrew was a better choice in my opinion because it is completely immune to electric attacks because of its ground typing. Meaning if we get a bunch of mareep, and flaffy; It would be able to work around them pretty freely. It could also potentially be able to shear the sheep later on. Being outright immune would make it ideal for such a task, if we could figure out how it would do so. Maybe Slash or Cut?
My issue with rockruff comes from its pokédex entries. The sun entries talk about how it starts off as friendly and good natured, but as it gets closer to evolving it becomes more violent and aggressive. That is not something you want to have on a farm. I don't feel that any of its evolution forms would be a good fit for a farm either. Midnight form is reckless and likes fighting, Dusk form is temperamental, and Midday form (which would be the most suitable) is a loner who would not form a pack to help protect the farm. If we have to get a dog type pokémon I would prefer going with the Growlithe line.
>>
>>5316402
>>Eat on the run.

>Let's pick up the pace before we get caught up by rain.

If it isn't raining by the time we get near the city we should challenge some more trainers.
>>
>>5316416
>If we have to get a dog type pokémon I would prefer going with the Growlithe line.

We already have a Growlithe.
Lycarock (Dusk) is still a good mon tho just in need of some socializing.
>>
>>5316443
Yes, we have a single Growlithe. One. A farm is going to need multiple guard dogs/herders if we are basing things off real life. And sure we can lend him the Growlithe as much as he needs, but what happens when he needs him and we aren't reachable? We either need to have a rotation of Growlithe or they just need to live there full time and might as well be given outright to James.
Lycanroc (Dusk) is literally the rarest of the 3 requiring it to have Own Tempo. The chances of us getting it are pretty slim. You say that it just needs socializing, until it goes through that socialization process it would have to be watched constantly to make sure that it doesn't harm the other farm animals. If you were arguing to have it as a battler I would be fine with it. But its just not suited for farm life in my opinion. You want something Calm, and hard to aggravate, but still capable of great violence if needed. Dusk form has both of these. Maybe if we found the right Rockruff with the right personality type that would be possible. But I just see 2/3 of the forms as a powderkeg that would be better off for battling and not for farm work. The Midday form has the proper temperament, but it is a loner who wouldn't pack bond with others. Sure you could use this on a farm. But it can't work together as a team with other herders. You could have them patrol the perimeter of the farm but that is about it.
Going back through my argument I realize we might have a disconnect here. I am arguing for catching pokémon to be transferred to James to live full time on a farm. I think you are planning to have them rotate in and out using them both as battlers and farm dogs?
>>
>>5316484
>Going back through my argument I realize we might have a disconnect here. I am arguing for catching pokémon to be transferred to James to live full time on a farm. I think you are planning to have them rotate in and out using them both as battlers and farm dogs?

Yeah pretty much.
Having everyone coped up in the box will be counterproductive.
The home in the town also likely isn't large enough to even warrant the space for playing around.

That said you raised your point in regards to herders and having mons in rotation between battle and farm work should be the best solution.

I think we should still keep a lookout for other canine pokemon we come across, especially Houndour as they are the ones with the best pack instinct and are able for both day time and night time work.

Fluffy (Eevee that we are trying to evolve into an Umbreon) should work somewhat as well.

We should also plan out what exactly we expect of the farm.
Do we only raise specific herd animals or several sorts?
Do we also plant berries and ingredients for pharmaceutical companies producing potions and antidotes?
Are we going to procure machinery for grooming (rotating cattle brushes) and milking?

Most of all we need to secure a property for all that.
Can't have our pokemon grazing on the wild or properties of others unless we ask a local council for permission to graze away intruding tall grass.
>>
>>5316402
>Eat on the run.
There will probably be more trainers in the city anyway.
>>
>>5316500
>Having everyone coped up in the box will be counterproductive.
>The home in the town also likely isn't large enough to even warrant the space for playing around.
I don't think Pokémon boxes are actually a thing? In the anime they were just out in a preserve/fenced off area behind Prof. Oaks lab in the anime. So we need word of god if the box storage is a thing in this universe.
If it is then I would prefer it if we could send them all to the (future) farm/ranch instead. Give them time to destress and pursue their own ideas or even engage in play or hobbies. They could also use the time to think about what they want to focus on or improve when they get rotated back into the team.

>That said you raised your point in regards to herders and having mons in rotation between battle and farm work should be the best solution.
Its an okay solution. Its not the best because we simply cannot keep enough Pokémon on us. Having a limit of 6 really makes it difficult, and its really less because I doubt we are going to transfer Latias out of the rotation for any real length of time. Keeping up on properly rotating the team is going to be difficult, but if we can pull it off would probably give us excellent results.
The best solution I see is to be able to go where our Pokémon are 'stored' and training them there. Having access to all of them at the same time would maximize our interaction with everyone and allowing us to make groups that train together.

>I think we should still keep a lookout for other canine pokemon we come across, especially Houndour as they are the ones with the best pack instinct and are able for both day time and night time work.
Most of the canines seem to be good fits. The Lilipup evolutions entries talk about how friendly and helpful they are so they would be a great fit for farm life. The name Herdier does imply that its good for herding. Though the unevolved Lilipup does mention that it will run away from danger so don't use it alone.
Houndour. I completely forgot about them. Yeah they would be a great option.

>Fluffy (Eevee that we are trying to evolve into an Umbreon) should work somewhat as well.
Yeah an Umbreon would be a great night guard.
>>
>We should also plan out what exactly we expect of the farm.
>Do we only raise specific herd animals or several sorts?

Honestly I don't know what to expect from the farm. We are really doing this to give James something to do to keep him out of trouble and get him some income. He is generally loved by all his pokémon so running a farm/ranch is probably a good idea, but I don't recall if we actually informed him of this plan. He might not be happy with it.
I figure we should raise several types. I always prefer a diversified portfolio.
Depends on what James wants. I see no reason not to leave it up to him if he wants to grow berries.
And he can probably make his own machinery for grooming and all that. Jessie and James were really good at making one off machines. Just need to ensure they don't explode.

>Most of all we need to secure a property for all that.
>Can't have our pokemon grazing on the wild or properties of others unless we ask a local council for permission to graze away intruding tall grass.
This is what I figure is going to be the hardest part. Buying land is rarely cheap. Who knows though, maybe prices are cheaper in pokémon because you have to displace the local wild pokémon or strike a deal with them.

>>

Man, the rain is really following us.
>>
>>5316770

Pretty much this.

The 'boxes' in this quest are code for 'massive League-run ranches.' Trainer's license fees pay for the running and allow them to rent a plot, though it's far from uncommon for groups of trainers to basically pool their plots for more space.

Private arrangements like you've got going with your parents are also pretty common.

Also, if you want the farm idea to be a Something instead of just a background detail, I'm a-okay with it. Especially if it gets people thinking that hard about it.
>>
>>5317290
I mean we are in the league to make money and are a young man on his way to pick a career that allows for outdoors activities.

So that and James getting fired is where we got the idea from.
We should stick to the farm idea as battles are a quick way of accumulating money (and we can ask Gramps for a loan after we got enough for a down payment).

It's around three o'clock when Silveridge comes into view:

As its name suggests, it used to be a mining town with a prosperous silver mine that's now played out.

And as you recently learned, is haunted.

These days, its biggest claim to fame is the two local museums:

One is an auto-museum, featuring cars and vehicles, including an exhibit of particularly ramshackle vehicles made for a cult classic movie series.

The other, is a museum of natural history, featuring fossils from digs found in the local region and the subject of a friendly rivalry with a similar museum in Arnet's west in Blackstump Town.

The natural history museum is also home to the town's gym and is easily visible from where you are...

Along with a column of smoke just outside.

You think for a moment before looking to Syurm.

"I think you've earned a break. You've been going pretty flat-out lately." You note.

She looks put-out, but doesn't resist as you return her before swapping her, Rascal and Nike for Volta, Blitz and Piker, who after a quick check to confirm he's picked up Water Gun, you add to your team, before heading out of the pokemon center and towards the sound of chanting around the column of smoke.

As you walk, you run through the steps of Dragon Dance, feeling yourself becoming faster and more powerful as you do until Gareth catches your arm.

"Calm down." He says seriously. "I can barely look at you, you're so bright."

"What?" You ask, surprised at just how disquieted Gareth sounds.

"Your aura is as bright as the sun right now." He says. "I think that's enough Dragon Dancing unless you're planning on fighting a Machoke or something." He says.

"Not really, I just want to be ready in case Team Green tries something." You say.

"Just be careful you don't maim or kill someone." Gareth advises, before you come out at the carpark in front of the natural history museum to see several dozen Team Green thugs having made a mountain of tires just outside the door and shouting in unison:

"Battling is Murder!" and "Let the Dead Rest!" While trying to waft the smoke into the building with the aid of a Tropius and several other Flying types.

What they're aiming to accomplish, you're not sure, but you know it needs to end.

And you can't see the police anywhere.

Your eye is drawn though as down another street, another group in fluro-orange high-vis vests and hard hats, with black grease depicting a cracked rock walking into the parking lock carrying heavy steel digger bars, among other implements.

"Team Cracker?" Martha says, startled, loud enough to draw the attention of the men, who give you a jaunty wave before one of them jogs over.

Now he's closer, you see he's in his late thirties or early forties.

"How ya goin'? You folks trainers?" He asks.
>>

"We are." Fie says evenly.

The man takes a step back.

"Yeah, right..." He says. "Okay, we've all got charges of prior association on us, so it's not really going to be any skin off our nose if things get rough. We're going to run these cunts out of town before they break something, so unless you've got a real good idea, I'd advise you kids hang back while we show these onions-sippers why Team Cracker used to be the scourge of corporations all over Arnet." He adds.

There's a part of you that's completely on board with this plan, but there's an awful lot of Team Green here and only about a dozen of these Team Cracker members.

"Deal." You reply, before the man nods and runs back to join his group, relaying the plan to mixed nods before one of them throws an empty bottle into the midst of the mob, getting their attention, followed by a tirade of abuse and further thrown objects, goading a good chunk of the mob to break off and chase after them.

When they're a short way down the street, two more groups in the same uniforms come out of side streets, hauling heavy concrete dividers, forming a barricade and trapping the group, leaving about two dozen left around the building and their fire.

A hefty number at first glance, but you doub the police will waste an opportunity to disperse the crowd if they won't be immediately jumped on the moment they exit the building.

You release Piker as Fie does the same with her Skrelp and you both creep around the opposite way all the Team Green louts are looking until you're almost at the door, then Judy pulls their attention to her, Gareth and Holly.

They're thrown further into chaos and confusion as Martha, Kathryn and Jean all hit them at different angles one after another as you focus on putting the fire out while the two flying types are distracted.

You're joined about halfway through by a trio of Rockruff that come scurrying out of the quietly opening museum door which quickly start heaping sand on the flames with Sand Attack, further dousing the flames as half a dozen police officers creep out, one of them giving you a thumb's up before they hit the group of rioters from behind, throwing them further into chaos and prompting them to try and scatter.

An effort that leaves them with only one realistic exit and that's out of town and into the scrub.

An appreciable chunk of them make it through the gap, but there's still about two thirds of them currently crying foul as the police, the group in Team Cracker uniform and your group round them up.

Last out of the building is a man who looks to be in his mid-thirties who has less of a tan and more of a look that suggests his skin is partly leather at this point as he directs the Rockruffs and a Lycanroc to help you douse the fire.

When this is done, he gives Fie a broad grin.

"You and your friends happened along just in time, Fie." He says. "It was getting a little hard to breathe in there."

She shakes her head.

"Does anything actually inconvenience you?" She asks incredulously.

"Nah, this wasn't so bad." He says, before giving you an assessing look. "If you're looking to challenge the gym, I'm afraid it's going to be closed for a bit while we get the burning tyre smell out of everything." He says. "The name's Darren, but everyone 'round here calls me Daz." He says, offering a hand.

Heard this used to be a mining town.
Freaks like those team green nuts don't gather around without someone financing it.
Perhaps they found a valid ore vein and are trying to dump property prices here.

"Pleasure." You say, taking his hand and matching his strong grip with yours, though in this case, it almost turns into a case of space.

Daz's grip has a lot in common with a mangle.

"I guess I'll have some time to get some training in." You add as you flex your fingers to get some feeling back in them.

"That's the spirit." Daz says, before throwing his arms wide in welcome as Jean and the others work up. "Jean! Good to see you again!" He says.

Jean skips up and returns the offered hug before stepping back.

"Good to see you as well, Darren. Are you alright?" She asks with concern.

"Ah, fine. I breathed worse surveying back when we were building Halfway City." He says, waiving her concern aside.

"What were those idiots even trying to accomplish?" You ask. "Trying to dump property prices for a buy up or something?"

Daz snorts.

"Nothing so clever. Idiots were trying to trash the fossil restoration machines." He explains. "Something about if the pokemon we were reviving were just going to be battling, they'd be better off staying dead. Bunch of bloody loons, if you ask me." He says.

>Oh, right. Could I get a fossil restored?
>Well, we better leave you to start cleaning up.

"D'you need a hand cleaning up?" You ask.

Daz considers it for a second, before nodding.

"Yeah, if you want to lend a hand." He says. "Mostly, we're just going to have to air the place out and give the foyer a bit of a scrub and a dust." He explains. "I'll waive you for a qualifying challenge as well, if you like." He adds.

"That sounds like a plan to me." You agree.
