Waluigi Quest

CHARISMA CHECK FAILED

You walk forwards with your chin pointed up, not bothering with the peasantry below you. In fact, your chin is so high that you aren’t even looking at the path. Before you know it, you bump into one the very koopas you were trying to avoid. “Wah!” You exclaim.

“Hey pal, watch where you’re going. Don’t you know this is a toll road? Give us something from your bag,” he says, as the other one gestures with his hand out.

“I got nothin’ in here, see?” you tell them as you hold open your bag. Using a little sleight of hand, you had slid all of your important stuff up your sleeve.

The koopas looked through the rest of your junk and eventually decided it wasn’t worth it and handed it back over.

You walk past them (muttering expletives under your breath) and travel for another hour or so before coming across an unsightly scene. Some villain has tied a maiden to a tree stump! Not only that, but a chain chomp is posted in front of her, clearly intended to terrorize her until it eventually breaks free and kills her. There was no way to reach the girl without passing the chomp. You weren’t entirely sure that it would be worth your time to help some girl, but perhaps there would be a reward?

[OPTIONS]
>Fuck bitches, get money (Keep walking)
>Use your Bob-omb to blow it up

You easily sneak past the chomp over its loud barking and untie the lady, before leading her out of the radius of the chain chomp.

“Hello pretty lady,” you say, raising your eyebrows a couple of times, “You can thank me later. Or… now actually, would be nice too,” you hold out your hand.

“Oh, thank you. My name is Sarella, may I ask the name of my noble savior?” She asks, blushing slightly. Her eyes are averted as she is clearly a little embarrassed.

You begin to get a little frustrated as she has not realized what you are asking for.

“Eh-hem,” you clear you throat and wave your hand once more.

“Oh!” She looks down and sees your gesture. “My apologies, um… sir, but I don’t really have anything to give you. You see, I was meant to take this Super Bell to my father a couple miles west of here, but some evil goombas tied me up and put left me.”

“Its WAH- excuse me. It’s Waluigi, And a young woman like you shouldn’t be travelling these dangerous roads alone. Let me take you the rest of the way home.”

“Oh Sir Waluigi, how kind of you! It’s right over that hill, just an hours walk.”

As Sarella turned her back to you, a sly grin grew across your face. You rubbed your palms together, and you could hardly refrain yourself from letting out a hearty WAH. A devilish plan indeed. You would walk Sarella home, making sure she was safe the whole way, and THEN, you would have your sweet sweet reward.

It was just as Sarella said, just over the hill. You both arrived at a bridge in front of her father’s house with a large pond under it. You test the sturdiness of it, then begin to walk across. After getting to about the middle of the bridge, you realize that you can see a Cheep Cheep charging up for an attack!

You cock your arm back, waiting for the flying fish to come at you. You swing with all of your wah, but you’re early by a long shot. Your momentum spins you around, 180 degrees, and the Cheep hits you in the back of the head. Sarella doesn’t think you’re too cool now…

After Sarella finishes laughing, she helps you up and you continue your journey to her father’s house. She knocks on the door and her father, a short human who she introduces to you as Harold, shakes your hand.

“Sir Waluigi! Thank you for safely bringing my daughter home. Now surely you aren’t just here for a reward or something like that, but I won’t have you leaving here empty handed. Please choose one of these items!” He says to you, rubbing his bald head before turning to enjoy his daughters presence.

As the sun begins to set and the air in the Mushroom Kingdom cools down, you reach the gate of the castle. The Toad Guards cross their spears in front of you.

“Halt, Purple-Hatted Criminal!” One of the Toads yells, “You have been banned from the Kingdom since the last time you were here! You stole a Super Crown and kept putting it on Toads heads! Not cool man!”

…well, that can’t be right. You had no recollection of doing that, although it does sound like the exact type of mischief you would get in to.

Either way, it didn’t matter if you did it or not, you still had to get in.

SUCCESS

You wait for the sun to set a little further and hide around the corner. In the dark of night you’re easily able to sneak between guard patrols. You twirl your mustache and “wah” quietly to yourself before continuing into the town.

Despite receiving glares from almost every toad in town, you make your way to the castle. While walking, you notice wanted posters of yourself on every street corner. It made you a little sad at first, after all you didn’t even do anything this time, but you were used to being the underdog.

You stood outside of the grand hall, feeling unsure of yourself. You held Mario’s present in your hand, but you didn’t know if you would be met with welcome or malice. You took a deep breath and opened the doors.

The party looked magnificent. There was cake and streamers everywhere, and everybody was having fun dancing and playing. Who should you talk to?

>Princess Peach, she’s always been nice

You make your way through the crowd, getting rudely shoved occasionally, and eventually make it to the table Mario is sitting at. You overhear him finishing a joke to Peach and some toads.

“-and so i says to him, I says ‘Mama mia!’” Mario begins to laugh at his own joke, and the toads uproariously laugh with him. You didn’t really get the joke, but you didn’t hear the first part so of course you wouldn’t get it. Mario spots you after the laughter dies down.

“Oh hey, what’s goin’ on Waluigi? I didn’t think you would be here… sorry, I didn’t mean it like that, it’s just kinda late is all.”

“Yea, there was a small detour. Anyways, here, I got you this.” You held the gift out.

He takes it from you and opens it, and his face light up with joy.

“A new cap! Thanks pal!” He puts on the hat. It looks exactly the same.

You and Mario catch up for a while, as the toads look on with dismay. The wall bursts open with fire and brimstone. A magikoopa and Roy, one of the Koopa Kids are standing where the wall once was.

“Well if it isn’t the pesky plumbers,” Roy echoes throughout the hall. Mario, Luigi, and Wario start to get up, ready to jump into action, but freeze in place.

“You didn’t think it’d be that easy did you? That’s why I’ve got my friend here.”

You look at the magikoopas wand and its glowing the same ice blue color as the brothers.

“Now, we’ll just take the Mario Brothers, and be off,” he says, as the three of them begin to float towards the hole in the wall.

The Mario Brothers? They only had three. Didn’t they know there are four Mario Brothers?

“Hey!” You shouted at Roy. He turned around, “Don’t you know me? It’s me! Waluigi! Wah-hah!” You wah-ed.

“Waluigi? I’ve never heard of you. We’ve got the Mario Brothers right here. Mario, his brother Luigi, and their cousin Wario,” Roy spots one of your wanted posters on the ground and picks it up, observing it carefully.

“Hm, I see. You’re just… some criminal? Are you even related to them?”

“Well, no, but-“

“Then I don’t care. Let’s go magikoopa.”

Just some criminal. Not even a Mario Brother. You literally have -uigi in your name, how could you not be?

>>
You quickly reached into your bag and pulled out your favorite utility, a Bob-omb. You held it in your hand, judging the weight. Starting your run-up was the easy part, you threw the Bob-omb with all your wah, and it flew across the room hitting right on the mark. The black thing beeped, turning red, then black, then red again, before exploding, blowing Roy and the magikoopa in two different directions. Magikoopa lost concentration, breaking the spell– but the destruction was more than you had anticipated. The hole in the wall was twice as big as before, and several toads had been turned into gore.

You were surrounded by toads pointing their spears at you.

“Terrorist!” one screeched, “You are under arrest, put your hands up in the name of the law of the Mushroom Kingdom.”

“Wait!” Mario pleaded, “He was saving us. Surely there should be an exception for that?”

The toads had none of it, they already had it out for you since before you walked in.

Last time on Waluigi Quest, Waluigi made his way to Mario’s birthday party, helping a young girl named Sarella along the way, before stealing items from her. Once he got to the Peach’s castle, he discovered that he was hated by many of the toads in the kingdom. Despite this, he snuck into the birthday party and gave Mario his birthday present; a new red cap! The party was then interrupted by Roy and a magikoopa, who Waluigi blew up with his trusty Bob-omb. The toad guards didn’t take kindly to this use of explosives inside the castle, accusing Waluigi of terrorism, and now surround our unlikely hero, demanding his surrender.

You decide that you should handle this legally. You use your one phone call to call your best friend, Wario.

“I don’t know why you’re asking me man, they don’t like me either,” you can almost smell his garlic breath through the phone.

“You’ve gotten in trouble plenty of times, so I just figured you knew a thing or two about the Mushroom Kingdom legal system. Wah.”

He snickered. “That’s one way to put it. I’ll do it. You said your trial was in a month right? I’ll gather some witnesses and then maybe once you’re free we go on an adventure like we used to.”

“That’d be fun bro!” You said with excitement, before remembering the current situation. The toad guard signalled to you that it was time to go.

“Anyways, my times up now. Good to talk to you man,” you groaned, hanging up the phone.

Back in your cell, you waited. Across the hall, you could see someone in the shadows.

“Waluigi? What are you doing in here? Although, I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised.”

You were able to make out his face after a couple seconds and recognized him as Toadsworth. You didn’t speak to him much, but you knew he used to act as a steward of sorts. Then some day, he got ousted, and was never heard from again.

“I think the government doesn’t like me.”

“I know how that is. That’s actually what I wanted to talk to you about. I can make sure you get out of here, but I’d like you to help me out too.”

“Okay… well, what do you need?”

“A few months ago there was a silent coup. Radicals wanting to bring democracy to the Mushroom Kingdom. They came to an agreement with the Princess that she could stay as a figurehead but I had to be replaced and her power would be nonexistent. I have contacts outside this prison, and I’d like you to get some of the Mario Bros. involved. With their help, we can surely beat the rebels.”

You looked at the floor in confusion. This was all so complicated. On one hand, a chance to be in the spotlight, to be one of the Mario Bros. On the other, you really didn’t care about any of this stuff, and you had a really good lawyer. You could just lie, but if the monarchists found out they would be after you for sure.

No. Just, no. We're already half-branded a terrorist, let's not become part of a military junte. The Mario Bros should not meddle with the internal politics of the Kingdom they help/defend, save for political marriage, and even then...

Lying will just dig us a deeper grave.
Let's stay out of it and chance the trial. Better be an escaped convict in the middle of a revolution than an active participant. It would let us fly low and return as a neutral party when the time is right. Maybe go on that adventure with Wario in the meantime ?

Finally, your turn to be important.

“I’ll do it,” you told him. It might not be worth the favor but it felt good to be needed.

“Mr. Waluigi, you stand in front of this court accused of two counts of terrorism, three counts of public indecency, and 1 count of public intoxication. The court finds you not guilty.”

The old judge said. He was a pianta man with a mustache and a greenish tint. Several Toads groaned with anger at this.

Wario took his feet off the table and put the rest of his garlic in his pocket in order to stand up.

“Thanks, your honor,” he said while casually walking away. You didn’t think that’s how it worked, but you followed him anyways because he was your lawyer. While walking to the door, you could feel glares at you from every angle, but paid no attention. You and Wario stood outside the courthouse.

“See pal, I told you it would be okay.”

“Wario, the case was rigged. I saw Toadsworth in prison, and it’s a long story, but I need your help.”

The two of you sat down on a bench as you explained.

“It’s not in my job description, but I’ll help. Where should we go first?”

WARIO has joined your party.

You and Wario walk the long stairway up to Peach’s tower suite. Under normal circumstances you would just see her in the throne room, but this would need to be more private.

After you knocked, Peach hesitantly opened the door.

“Waluigi! Wario! Please come in, it’s been so long since I’ve seen you two!” she exclaimed excitedly. The three of you sat down in her foyer, and she handed you both some tea.

“How can I help you all?” She asked, clasping her hands together while smiling.

Supporting this depending how edgy this quest is in terms of humour. The gory terrorist explosion may have misled my expectations.

You say this and see Peach’s face contort in fear and she begins to frown. She mouths some words to you. You try your best to make it out.

“They’re listening,” is what it looked like she said. She tried to put her fake smile back on, but now you could see right through it.

“I-I have no idea what you could mean by that Waluigi!” She stammered out, “Maybe we could talk about this at lunch some time, but for now you should probably leave. How does tomorrow at 9 sound?” She practically pushed you out the door and slammed it shut. Two toad guards were there to meet you. They escorted you out of the castle.

You and Wario stood at the entrance, confused and unsure of what to do next.

Last post for tonight, will make options next time. Next time will most likely be the finale. Thanks for playing /wah/friends.

Last time on Waluigi Quest, after suffering severe police brutality, Waluigi surrendered and was put into prison. He called his best friend Wario for help in court, and secured assistance from Toadsworth to win the case. After discovering that the Princess is being closely watched by the Toad Republic, Waluigi must decide what course of action, if any, to take in order to free the Princess and truly become a Mario Brother!

[OPTIONS]
>We must save the princess! We’ll barge in there and carry her out if we have to!
>We should ask Mario what he thinks we should do.
>We don’t need Mario’s help, we can do this on our own. We could sabotage the Toad government by sneaking into their town hall [SNEAK 50]

You and Wario wait at the table. Wario taps his fingers somewhat nervously. You haven’t seen Peach yet, but you know you’re being watched.

“Well boys I’m sorry I’m late,” Peach says as she sits down at the table. She is undercover, not wearing her usual royal dress but instead a more casual outfit. It doesn’t make much difference, considering you, her, and Wario are the only humans around here.

“Listen to me carefully, if I tell you to stop speaking, you stop. They’re watching us, and if you dont listen to me, we will get busted, alright?” She puts on the same fake smile from yesterday.

You explain everything to Peach. She listens carefully, despite the constant nodding and pretending as though the conversation is casual.

“I know you just got out, but I’d like you to sneak back into prison. You can bust Toadsworth out. He has enough popular support and connections to get rid of the rebels. You’ll have to sneak in, and there’s a secret entrance under my castle that you can use.”

You and Wario sneak carefully through the dank dungeons under the castle. With your skill in sneaking, surely nothing could go wrong. A whistle blows from behind you. You manage to hide in a corridor to the right.

“Let-a me go! I was just going to play a prank!”

You could tell he was trying to cover for you. He was able to fool the guards, but would you really let Wario take the fall? If the Republic found him guilty of treason, the fate the awaited him would not be gentle. On the other hand, if your mission was successful, that wouldn’t be an issue. What was a Mario Bro. to do?

You were able to narrowly sneak past the remaining guard patrols. Toadsworth was more than happy to see you as you let him out, and you escorted him back the way you came, making sure to go around the distraction that Wario created.

You and Toadsworth successfully made it back to his former office, with the Princess already waiting inside. Toadsworth immediately started making calls and filing paperwork like a hurricane. It seemed to start from the castle, but a slow counter-coup retook its grasp over the Mushroom Kingdom.

Weeks later, after the chaos quieted down, you were eating in the dining hall with Princess Peach. Mario was there, telling jokes as usual. Luigi was there, a shy but friendly guy who was there to support his brother. Even Wario, who was pardoned by Peach, was eating enormous servings in the royal dining hall. This was all usual of course, the part that made it special was you.

Finally, after all these years, you were treated as an equal. Waluigi was hiding in the shadows no longer, he was a Mario Brother.

THE END

Thanks for playing /wah/ friends. I had fun, will definitely QM again.
