Last time, on Dragon Ball Tuffle Quest Kai! The first day of the Mifan Tournament came to a close, with Peppa and Keli facing off against Tien and Vegeta! And after a tough battle, Peppa and Keli managed to claim victory! That night, Izzy and co. investigated suspicious activity involving new faces Hado and Sala, helping them take care of a group of Demons up to no good. With that dealt with, the next set of matches of the Mifan Tournament begin! Izzy and Pantea manage to get through their first match against Recoome and Guldo, but many strong fighters still await them. Can they make it through the rest and face Peppa and Keli at the end? Good luck, Izzy!

You watch as Ledgic, Nox, 16, and Captain Chicken all get into the ring, with 16 and Ledgic facing one another first. You have to admit, you’re curious on how the two aliens fight… actually, is Nox an alien? He DOES feel more like a Demon, but he’s also kinda… off. Mugen doesn’t strike you as the Towa-y type, so how’d something like Nox end up working with him?

Well… while it’s tempting to see where Sachie and Zarid went off to, this looks like it might require more of your attention. ‘Let’s keep things up like usual, Pantea. Observe the fight, see how we might face ‘em.’ you tell your partner telepathically. ‘Though let’s keep an eye on Mugen too. He’s up to something.’

‘Gotcha.’ she replies, eyes locked to the ring.

“Fighters ready? BEGIN!” Pilaf declares.

https://youtu.be/trLy09frpTs

16 takes a defensive stance, Ledgic slowly circling him, looking for an opening. He found one, and dashed forward to exploit it, ducking down and sweeping 16’s legs. However, the Artificial Human wasn’t going down that easily, and while he let the hit connect, he also went for an elbow slam right into Ledgic’s head as he fell. The alien hit the floor hard, with 16 landing on top of him and pinning him down. Yet he wasn’t going to be out that easily, Ledgic lifting himself up after knocking 16 off and flying high, the chains on the cuffs of his sleeves extending out through Magic Materialization. 16 jumps to avoid them as they look to be flying down towards him, but he’s surprised as they actually dig into the floor. Ledgic then charges energy through the chains, electrifying the floor and forcing 16 to take to the air to avoid it.

Only that plays right into his trap, as Ledgic hits 16 in the chest with a fierce kick, knocking him downward. It’s only with the timely assist of Captain Chicken that the big bot isn’t fried by the floor, who jumps in and catches 16. And… he’s standing on the floor completely unscathed. Huh? Wait…

‘...He’s wearing rubber boots isn’t he.’ you comment to Pantea.

‘Not just any rubber, it’s an elastic insulator based on the stretchy material of PTO armors.’ Pantea notes. ‘It’s not perfect though, given how much power Ledgic is putting into the ring… which is also a surprise. The floor isn’t particularly conductive, so it must be a lot.’

You notice a slight bit of smoke start to steam off from Captain Chicken’s boots. However, he’s not letting up that easily. Holding 16 up at his shoulder, the Artificial Human balls himself up. “Haha, you haven’t won yet, alien! TAKE THIS! OUR FASTBALL SPECIAL!” The costumed fighter then launches 16 upward, and though Ledgic initially dodges the attack, 16 spins around in the air and fires off beams from his eyes! The alien is knocked down to the floor and briefly shocked by his own attack. Captain Chicken puffs his chest up and lets out a triumphant laugh… then quickly gets back out of combat before the alien’s able to get back up.

‘Well, guess they do have a decent degree of teamwork. But Captain Chicken might live up to his name even more than I thought.’ you note, though looking over to Nox, you see that the other fighter isn’t all that concerned about what’s going on. And… if anything, Mugen actually looks excited, if subtly so. Your skin crawls a little as he briefly looks back at you, not saying a word, but making it clear he knows how much you’re paying attention to this match. He looks back to the fight, a slight nod of his head signaling for you to do the same.

In a burst of speed, Nox is in the ring and has slammed his knee in the back of 16’s head, following up with a ferocious combo that puts the big guy on the defensive. 16 is able to spin around and delivers a powerful punch to Nox’s face, and then his forearm detaches as it becomes a rocket punch! …But that barely moves Nox a few meters back before he’s able to grab it off his face. And he’s smirking now, with his energy spiking up a bit as he looks to get serious. Now that you’re able to better feel his Ki… well crap.

You rub the side of your head. ‘That confirms it, then. Nox is an Artificial Demon. Like Mira, or Fu.’

‘Yeah. But… who in the world made him, then?’ Pantea questions.

“That’s an interesting technique.” Nox comments to 16, still holding the rocketing forearm. “It works like this, right?” He flings the Rocket Punch right back at 16, with even greater force than what the bot launched it with. 16 gets hit in the face with his own fist, and Nox then rises up into the air and forms a barrier around himself… which then fires off a multitude of Ki blasts all around the ring, Ledgic actually getting in the ring and deflecting many of them towards 16.

“Good, good! We do have spectators, after all. Wouldn’t want any to get hurt, hahaha!” Mugen calls out to his fighters, but it somehow feels a bit disingenuous. He’s also… very deliberately observing how well 16 is taking this attack.

>A. All right, what’s your angle here, Mugen?

‘...Just a moment, Pantea.’ You move on over to Mugen, looking up at him. “All right, be honest, what’s your real angle here, Mugen?”

He looks back down at you. “Hahaha… oh it’s nothing sinister, I can assure you.” Mugen’s attention returns to the match. “You see, I am a collector of sorts. I look out for valuable commodities, rarities, treasures if you will. And some of the rarest, and most valuable ones to me-”

“Are unique and strong fighters.” you finish for him, recalling what you were told about him. “Thought so. You’re here to ‘recruit’ aren’t you?”

“Willing ones, of course.” he states reassuringly. “There is quite the amusing cast of characters around here. Many that would be perfect additions.”

“Like 16.” You look back as well. He’s still holding on, but Nox is definitely on another level compared to him. Even as he pulls out all the tricks he can, there’s just… little he can really do against this Artificial Demon, much less him and Ledgic together. “So what, did you pitch to him that you could make him stronger or something?”

“I may have made a pitch to him.” Mugen replies smugly. “But it is up to him to take it.”

16 finally manages to get some distance between himself and Nox, the Demon up in the air as 16 charges up one last attack. “PHOTON BEAM! FULL POWER!” A blinding light erupts from his eyes as he fires upward… and for a brief moment, you see Nox look over at all of you in the waiting area. And smirk. And… cup his hands together? He’s also channeling Magic into his attack. Wait, WHAT?!

“I’ll let you in on a little secret, Izumi Mahogany.” Mugen tells you. “Nox is an ancient Battle-Enhanced Majin. Made to fight. Made to win. It was quite the… luck of the draw…” The smugness in his voice is almost irritating. “…that he ended up so far back in the roster. All the more time to observe his potential foes, and all their wonderful little tricks. Much like you and Miss Pantea have been doing… just with some more direct results.” Your skin crawls as he tells you this. Crap.

“SHINKU! KAMEHAMEHA!” Nox calls out, a pink beam swirling with Wind Magic blasting downward and clashing with the Photon Beam. The sheer force of the winds is enough to pick 16 up off his feet as the attack comes closer, and when it finally connects, it’s like it erupts into a hurricane. Even Ledgic has trouble staying in the ring, while 16 is knocked out of it decisively.

“Haha! Perfect, perfect!” Mugen cheers. You look back to Pantea a little nervously, and then Mugen places his hand on your shoulder. “I do hope you and your partner put in a good showing, it’ll make for an even more interesting show later on.”

You spot Captain Chicken just barely hanging on to the edge of the ring, and as he pokes his head up, spotting the Majin looking even more ready to battle. He looks back at 16… and just lets go, quickly hurrying over to 16 to try and get him up and out of there. Nox’s demeanor calms, with him looking to Ledgic and nodding.

“W-well! Looks like Captain Chicken has called it quits, so Nox and Ledgic advance to the next round!” Pilaf declares.

You walk back to Pantea. Well, this just got a whole lot more complicated…

‘So. He’s definitely aware of what we’re doing.’ you tell Pantea telepathically. ‘And more importantly, Nox is not only doing the same thing, but he’s able to put them into practice much quicker.’

‘Should we start planning on how to face him and Ledgic, then?’ she questions. ‘Though there’s also all the things he’ll be trying to pull out from previous fights… and what he might try to pull from the fights ahead.’

Dad, aunt Maple, Launch, and Shao all start heading into the ring. Well, preparing for those fights might make it easier to be ready to fight Nox as well, but it’s not just those fights he’s going to be drawing from. It’s the ones from the previous day too. So… what do you do? Keep at this, imagine how to face the current teams in image training? You stand beside Pantea, arms crossed. ‘Let’s focus on the match ahead. Nox may be a threat, but Maple and dad are still a formidable team.’ But, with that said… ‘Aunt Maple, dad?’ you contact them. ‘Hey, so, were you able to get all that? What Nox actually is? Because like, the more you show off, the more he’ll be able to mimic.’

‘I was.’ Maple responds first. ‘And we won’t be taking him lightly, rest assured.’

‘We definitely have something we can use to deal with them, don’t worry. But thanks for the concern.’ dad adds, taking point as Maple walks out of the combat zone. Launch stands opposite him, confident and ready to fight.

“Fighters ready? BEGIN!”

https://youtu.be/WGrhfSXEz78

Launch powers up and charges Ki in her hands, moving back and firing a barrage of blasts at Acer. He avoids most of them and even deflects some back at her, sticking to the defensive for now. As he does, though, you notice Maple briefly jump in and out to take potshots at Launch with Geist Magnums. As she does, you notice small spikes in dad’s Ki. Hrmn. That Eight Paths thing? …Actually, can Nox copy that? If not, they might be able to use that against him. And… that’s also gonna be a problem for you and Pantea to deal with, isn’t it? You’ve got AN idea on how to deal with it, mom uses the Eight Paths too, but it’s gonna be a bit tougher with Maple given how much more she’s put into those skills.

Thinking hard on it, you and Pantea both come to the realization that the best way to hold her off is to probably stick with Pantea acting as a shield, and you a magical weapon. You know she’s got Magic skills and potentially Mahou powers she’s ready to use, but it might be just enough to overwhelm her if the two of you work together. Maple’s not unbeatable, you can see plenty of folks here who’ve proven that. But she’s not someone to take lightly.

…And back with the fight, you see that Launch’s transformed, with her blonde hair spiked a bit and power surged up high, with Shao fighting alongside her as they manage to get the upper hand against Acer, Launch being the main fighter while Shao gets in some hits when she sees openings. Yet in spite of the pressure put on him, the damage he’s taking, he doesn’t seem all that worried. Just when it looks like they’re about to hit him with a critical combo attack, Acer dodges and seems rejuvenated. Not only is his stamina and energy back, but a swirl of green Ki surrounds him and heals the woulds he sustained. You spot Maple at the edge of the combat zone, having uppercut with one arm.

‘Ranged healing, that’s gonna be very tricky to deal with.’ Pantea notes to you. ‘Any thoughts, Izzy?’

Hmm… that’s a tough one. You think on some of the things you might do to counteract it, trying to attack Maple, trying to intercept the healing, but… she’s probably thought up all those counters. Damn it, what can you do? Force him out before he’s healed…? Mmmhh… maybe you can get mom to show you the MP Buster? During some downtime between the fights you have to worry about?

While you’re busy brainstorming, you actually miss Acer switching out for Maple completely, and her stunning Shao with an electrified Jan-Ken combo. She hits the floor, and as Launch attempts to attack her, she stops at the last minute so to avoid an electrified barrier. Launch then is forced to back out of combat before a time-out, leaving Shao to try and stand against Maple on her own for a bit. But Maple’s on the full offensive, yet… there’s something odd you’ve noticed.

She’s not been using any transformations. No Kaio-ken, no Raio-ken, certainly no Mahou. And she hasn’t actually been using many NEW skills either. Sure, she’s showing some abilities Nox might be able to copy, but it’s all rather… basic, compared to what you know she’s capable of.

Then it clicks for you.

Maple’s purposefully holding back. That ranged healing skill might be a little unique, but it’s not exactly that complicated or powerful a technique. Useful, yes. But she has better under her belt. And this hits you with a bit of inspiration. How much can YOU hold back? You and Pantea might be able to get by with less than you were planning for, and in doing so you might be able to get the jump on your foes!

Explaining your thought to Pantea, the both of you also hit upon the idea of playing against type. Giving foes, or at least Nox and Ledgic, a degree of garbage data that messes with their datasets. Yes… this will work! It won’t be easy to pull off, but it just might be enough to really trip up your foes. Thinking of your next fight… maybe you can try to take on Chiaotzu directly, catch ‘em off-guard with an aggressive assault. 19 does want a rematch with you, but that can wait until you’ve messed with Nox’s expectations enough.

Back with the fight, Maple and Shao have been at it for a bit, and Shao’s definitely on the backfoot. Launch attempted to jump in a couple times, but dad was there to counter her and push her back out. Getting desperate, she launches into the air and attempts to fire a Tri-Beam down at the ring. But Maple teleports up to her to dodge it, the only thing getting damaged being the ring. An electrified sledgehammer blow knocks her back down, but Shao spins around and tries to go for one last Galick Gun. Maple finally uses the Raio-ken for a bit of a speed boost and elbow-checks Shao as she fires the attack. The sudden and very quick hit, combined with the beam firing off, acts like a booster that pushes Shao right out of the ring!

And now all that’s left is Launch. Maple touches down, her sparking aura fading, and confidently telling Launch to bring it on.

You keep attention on the match, but now with even more focus on how to face Maple and dad. To her credit, Launch is definitely not backing down any, and with them holding back, she’s got quite a power advantage. So, they’re using what they have sparingly, letting Launch exhaust herself by trying to take either of them out. They can do this because they’ve known Launch almost all their lives, though, and even with all the skills she’s picked up and power she’s gained, there’s a familiarity in how she fights that puts her at a disadvantage.

And… the same is true for you and Pantea, if you’re being honest. That’s why it might be best to play against type. But is that all you can do? …Your mind goes back to the Hakkero, and how it might help. It’s not something you can use lightly, Maple especially will notice it whenever you use it, but if utilized at just the right time, it could even surprise Maple. Or… wait a minute. Hah, of course! Even if she doesn’t know it as well as you do, Pantea is at least familiar with how it operates. The ultimate switch-up: Pantea getting a Magical boost through the Hakkero! And the best part is, Nox can’t copy it… you think. You hope.

Passing the idea along to Pantea, the two of you get to work figuring out how to best go about it. It might not be a great idea to try it next match, but this… this is doable. Now, the real question is Nox and Ledgic. HOPEFULLY they can’t copy the Hakkero’s powers, but with Nox being a Majin… you can’t quite be completely sure. Image training with Pantea a bit, you try to see how you can face these two. Ledigc might be relatively easy to deal with, his skills and strength are formidable, sure, but Pantea could probably take him on her own, and you’ve got an arsenal to utilize against him. Nox though… gah. He’s got so many things he can pull out as a surprise, and you KNOW he’s got the strength to back those techniques up. Telekinetic redirects of Ki blasts, barriers and Ki pinballs, heating up, freezing, or electrifying the floor, maybe even that weird thing Buula did that-

WAIT.

Okay that’s kinda distracted you from planning how to fight him but this is important! You tell Pantea you’ll be back momentarily and find Buula and Percel, the two closer to the back and sort of keeping a general eye on things, especially Basilea and Fu... when he isn’t being all buddy-buddy with Pilaf. But that’s not the point! “Heeeeey, Patrollers. So, you heard the spiel from Mugen just a bit ago, right? About Nox, the ‘ancient Battle Majin’ that’s ‘made to fight, made to win’ and all that stuff? So like… is he even supposed to be here? Is he related to certain other Majins? Ozotto… Buu… Hirudegarn…?”

Buula flinches awkwardly when she hears you bring up Buu, but rubs the side of her head… tentacles… thing as she thinks over your question. “Being honest, I don’t actually know much about Nox. Heard boss bring him up in passing before, but I’ve not really dug into the past like that. That Mugen has him is… concerning, but not something technically what we should worry about.” She looks over to her partner. “Percel?”

“Nox, the Battle-Enhanced Majin, brought into existence thousands of years ago by magicians who wished to create the ultimate warrior. Ever-adaptable and capable of learning more skills through observation.” Percel informs you, as if reciting a dossier from memory. “The more he fights the stronger he gets. He was sealed away long ago, so that means Mugen somehow found a way to both unseal and recruit him.” The alien patroller leans forward, placing his hands together. “…What’s curious to me is that he’s showing much more restraint in how he acts. He knows the rules of this tournament, no killing foes and such, which to me implies Mugen is able to keep him under control to a degree. Or… maybe he’s simply turned Nox… well, ‘good’ isn’t exactly the best way to put it, but ‘to his side’ at the very least. Similar beings, like the Majins you mention, would be less willing to go along with this.”

“Dooooo you know how he was sealed away?” you ask hopefully.

“I would have to double check with our boss. Sorry.” He then looks at you in the eyes and tells you telepathically, ‘He IS a Majin, at the end of the day. You’ve beaten some before, have you not? If that’s what you’re trying to accomplish, think on your prior victories. Best of luck, Majin Slayer.’ Percel smiles at you and nods.

Okay that’s a little boost to your ego. Majin Slayer. Yeeeaaaah. Such a cool title.

Well, that’s your cue. “Thanks for the info, guys. Guess you’re sticking around until the end, huh?”

“Call it a precaution, but we’d rather be here making sure nothing interrupts the tournament than heading back early and missing something we should have prevented.” Buula tells you calmly.

“Heh, fair enough. But don’t worry too much, Pantea and I will be the ones to make it to the top!” You flash a thumb’s up and head back to your partner. Your match against Chiaotzu and 19 is next, so you’ve gotta get your head in the game! You’re gonna win this!

If you ask me a good tactic to use against Nox is to both constantly switch who he fights but not in a way that he can precit when it will happen, use sneak attacks and otherwise focus on dodging/defending to prevent him from copying more moves. The second it looks like he adapts to that though hit him hard and fast

You and Pantea walk together, with 19 and Chiaotzu flanking you both, as all four of you enter the ring. 19 gives you both a smile, stating, “I must admit, I have been looking forward to this fight for some time. Are the two of you ready?”

“More than ready.” Pantea responds, cracking her knuckles.

“I’ve been wanting a proper rematch for a long time. And Chiaotzu! We’re not gonna underestimate you, ya hear? We’re taking this seriously.”

He nods, bowing to you and Pantea respectfully, then takes a fighting stance, showing he’s ready to fight first.

“Fighters ready? BEGIN!”

‘Like we planned, Pantea. I’ll take Chiaotzu, you take 19.’ you tell your partner telepathically, stepping forward to face your foe. “All right, I’m starting things off! So you better be ready!” You raise up your fist and clench it tight, smirking confidently. You then hold it forward, declaring, “Think you can manage a telekinetic arm wrestle, Chiaotzu?”

He thrusts his hand forward as well, his aura surging up around him. And… as you feel your power clash with his, you come to a quick realization that he’s KINDA not the best person to go for a telekinesis duel against. Your arm’s flung back, and then the rest of your body as you’re tossed away. You let your Ki surge up as well and do what you can to counter. Thankfully, you still have something resembling a power advantage on him, and as you move in closer, you outspeed him and catch him by surprise with a quick kick to the side. He is knocked off his feet, but he quickly recovers and again flings you away with telekinesis, this time towards the edge of the ring!

You’re caught by Pantea and pulled back in, with her even managing to surprise Chiaotzu with a surprise Ki blast. He tries to stop it in place, only for Pantea to reveal it’s a Spirit Ball and maneuver it quicker than he can react, clocking him in the face. Setting you down, she’s forced to keep herself from giggling slightly. “You sure you got this, Izzy?” You don’t even get a chance to reply when 19 rushes her and forces her away from Chiaotzu, with Pantea just barely dodging a flurry of blows and attempted grapples from her.

>A. Get in close, and don’t give Chiaotzu a chance to do that again!

Okay, if that’s how he’s going about this… “Hey Chiaotzu! See if you can handle THIS!” You charge up your Ki a bit, then with a clap of your hands, several more of you appear and swarm him! Pantea successfully forces 19 out of combat with a surprise Clothes Beam, trapping her arms in large metallic cylinders and kicking her out of combat. She then gives you a thumb’s up as she heads out, distracting Chiaotzu one more time with the Spirit Ball as you rush him with all your copies!

He tries to hold some off, but you also use Afterimages to confuse him further, and one by one hits start landing. He’s able to take the first few, but you deliver a solid uppercut with another Izzy as a couple copies fade and more power goes into that one. Chiaotzu is forced to let out an Explosive Wave to keep the rest away, but that prevents him from flinging you away with Telekinesis!

Your copies rush him again, once more using the Afterimage trick, but this time you actually grab him with your own Telekinesis and knock him down! Bam!

You next grab hold of Chiaotzu with telekinesis and lift him up into the air, flinging him out past the edge of the ring! He stops himself, aura sparking up and surging around him as he pushes back against your telekinetic hold. Crap. Kaio-Ten. ‘Pantea, cover me! 19’s bound to step in!’

And as if on cue, she’s right above you, arms raised up and ready to smash you over the head with her bindings. Pantea however is able to block it, and while it creates a shockwave that hits hard enough to almost cause you to lose focus, you quickly regain your hold on to Chiaotzu as he tries to force his way back into the ring. You notice him hold both hands forward, and instead of a telekinetic push, Chiaotzu fires off freezing Dodonpas. You try to avoid them, but it’s hard with you still holding him back, and so, the beams graze your legs, ice forming on the sides of them and causing you to flinch.

What’s worse, as Pantea tries to protect you from 19, the android girl manages to get her to accidentally break open the restraints on her hands… and she follows that up with a quick, retaliatory blast of a Lightning-enhanced beam that hits her dead-on. Damn it, you’re so close! Just gotta… wait. Wait, you know just what you need to do! You raise up your Ki more as you hold Chiaotzu, making it look like you’re still keeping up this strategy. But in truth, there’s a simple solution: all you need to do is ensure he slams into the ground outside of the ring.

With a confident smirk, instead of keeping him back, you merely change his direction… and let go. The sheer momentum behind him causes Chiaotzu to rocket headfirst into the ground, shaking the whole area. But you’ve done it. Chiaotzu is out of bounds!

19 has a look of genuine surprise on her face as you exhale deeply, glancing back and smirking at her. “Didn’t see that coming, huh?”

‘Pantea, it’s on you. I’m gonna switch out and try to figure out a plan.’ you tell her telepathically, while also scanning the area to check for who’s paying the most attention to your fight. Most importantly, you try to locate Nox and judge how he’s observing your fight. You do notice Sachie and Zarid looking on pretty intently… even if Sachie seems to be playing it up just a bit. And Nox… yeah, he’s been paying close attent-

Why do your legs hurt all of a suddenOW OW OW! You stumble and faceplant as you try to get out of combat, a painful jolt of electricity having struck your legs. You look back and see 19’s created a barrier infused with Lightning, but unlike your own, that’s translated into one that has massive electric arcs zapping across it like some giant plasma globe. And lucky you. You got hit by one of them.

Pantea’s forced to dodge around the arcs of electricity, and thankfully she notices you trying to recover from that attack. She rushes to your aid and pushes you out of combat, still avoiding the sparking arcs as best she can. You weakly give her a thumb’s up as the numbness in your legs fades, allowing you a moment to sit up. Okay. Okay. So 19 has DEFINITELY improved her Magical skills. That’s an issue. She is kinda sticking to Lightning for the time being, maybe you can use that to your advantage.

…You do glance back over to Nox once more. He’s smirking smugly at you, then turns his attention to 19 with curiosity. Bah! BAH! Whatever! You’ll find a way to overcome that! And then another one even HE won’t think of! Yeah!

Which would be, uh…

>A. 19 probably won’t like a short circuit, maybe you could try to pull that off?

Okay. You’ve… got at the very least a good idea on a plan. 19’s new move is pretty dangerous, yes, but she definitely wouldn’t like a short circuit now, would she? The real question is, how do you make that happen? …By working with Pantea. Yeah. Yeah! She can hit 19 with a Shinespark! And you can use the Phantom Spark to help that along! What else, what else… ah, of course! Barrier! You explain your idea to Pantea, and she agrees with it. Now, just gotta wait for the right moment…

As Pantea starts to dodge more and more of the arcs of electricity, moving in closer and increasing her speed, energy building up around her, you see your chance. You hop into the ring and quick-charge a Phantom Spark! Firing it forward, Pantea actually catches it as she charges forward with the Shinespark… aaaand you get zapped again for the trouble. DAMN IT. Okay, barrier up! Pantea then dunks the Phantom Spark right near 19’s barrier, while at the same time dashing right into it. The vast difference in charges, between the attack, the barrier, and Pantea herself, do not play nice with 19’s little trick.

She’s shocked by her own attack, and that erupts into a wave of energy that explodes through the area. Thankfully, your barrier stops the blast from doing any more damage to you, and 19 was both pretty damaged and slightly stunned from that.

‘One last combo, Pantea! Let’s do this!’

‘Right! Time to win this!’

Your auras surge around you both, and you rush 19 quickly, Pantea getting in first and trying to land a sledgehammer blow. However, 19 isn’t out of this just yet, as she brings her arms up and manages to block it, though the sheer force of the hit pushes her into the ring a bit as it cracks under her feet. You however get right up in the android girl’s face and bring your hands to yours, yelling out, “SOLAR FLARE!” as you hit her point blank.

19 is blinded, and you decide to mix things up a bit. “ROCK!” you call out as you hit her in the gut with a Lightning-boosted punch. “SCISSORS!” and you follow with a Wind-boosted poke. “PAPER!” and finish it off with a Shadow-boosted palm strike! 19 stumbles back, trying to regain her focus and again blocking a hit from Pantea, but you close in once more. She quickly switches targets to you and tries to attack, but you counter with the good ol’ Izumi combo! She’s losing ground! YOU’VE GOT THIS!

You attempt one more charge… but this time she’s able to recover just in time. After she deflects Pantea’s next attack, she grabs you, by the leg. WHY THE LEG? WHY YOUR LEGS?! You’re slammed down hard on the ground, but as you try to escape you feel some energy drained away. Damn it! You got too confident! And you hear the countdown ticking up. Crap crap crap. Need to get loose from this! Barrier? Agh, but that’ll still give her energy! Lightning? Shadow? Clothes Beam?! Wait, Telekinesis! You try to force her off, but her grip just grows tighter. Come on, come ooooon…!

Suddenly, 19’s other arm is grappled by Pantea. “BURNING…!” Her hand is wreathed in flames, and she is about to slam it into 19 at full force. “CRUSHER!”

Making a quick decision, the android girl opts to stop draining you and fling you away so she can grab the incoming attack. You roll skip across the ground and roll a bit, and just barely manage to get out of combat before the time’s up. You sit up, panting. Ow… definitely took a bit out of you, and 19’s recovered a good deal of power thanks to that. Even Pantea’s save still managed to refuel her a bit. There’s still some physical damage done, but this isn’t working out too well. Need a new plan…

You cross your legs and take a moment to let them properly rest, palms on your knees as you watch this play out, and also healing your legs a bit while you recover. Well… let’s see. Pantea’s still holding her own pretty well, so you’ve got some time to plan this out. Looking to Nox again, you decide that you really can’t show off any more skills at this point. Gotta make him believe that’s all you’ve got… for now. So, no Mahou, no extra Magic, gotta work with what you’ve got.

Pantea’s able to avoid 19’s attempts to grapple her, landing a couple solid hits with the Wolf Fang Fist in counter and even finding a way to prevent the plasma ball barrier by grappling 19 from behind and suplexing her as she attempts it. Okay, good, good. But she’s still having to hold back quite a bit. She might actually be able to finish this if she could just get the right opening.

You close your eyes for a moment, taking in a deep breath and exhaling as you think this through. Can’t use anything new. Can’t let 19 get ahold of you or Pantea. Need to give her an opening. Maybe… wait, that’s it! Okay, it’s just what you were using to try and get her off of you. And… you’re gonna have to be sneaky about this.

Waiting for the right opportunity, you very slowly move into combat, and right as 19 attempts another grapple, you use telekinesis to stop her arm. The sudden jerk of her limb stopping disorients her, and that gives Pantea an opening to fire a point-blank Ki blast in her face. The android girl stumbles back, but now she notices you, and quickly she attempts to go after you. You use Telekinesis again to stop her, but she simply fires out eye beams at you in retaliation. You dodge, but she still isn’t giving up, firing more and more.

‘Pantea, you’ve got your chance!’ you tell her telepathically.

‘Okay, I can finish this! Just hold her for a second!’

19 tries one last thing to overcome your telekinetic hold, and to your surprise, she combines her barrier with Light Magic to produce a massive flash. You thankfully are able to Clothes Beam some glasses just in time, but that still drops your concentration for just a moment. She’s able to get right in front of you before you hold her in place again. And it’s not going to be easy to dodge another eye blast from this range.

Thankfully, she never gets the chance.

https://youtu.be/0KB2UeMXgb0

Behind you both, Pantea had been gathering up both Ki and Magic into one last move. Not something you would’ve gone with, but this’ll work just fine. “HEY! 19!” Pantea calls out, holding her hands forward after having waved them around. “SHIN! BURNING ATTACK!” A Fire Magic infused massive ball of Ki rockets from Pantea’s splayed out hands.

19 tries to move her hands back to absorb it, but with you there, she’s stuck, able to do little more than look at the attack coming her way. She tries a barrier one last time, but seems to be aware that it’s not gonna do much more than soften the hit a bit. 19 looks back at you… and smiles. “Good match, Izzy.”

The blazing ball of energy hits her barrier, and while it’s held back for a moment, it soon overcomes the shield and erupts with a tremendous amount of force. It’s enough to actually knock you down into the ground… but also send 19 flying, right out of the ring!

“Number 19 is out of bounds! PANTEA AND IZUMI ADVANCE TO THE NEXT ROUND!” Pilaf declares.

The crowds cheer over your victory, and Pantea quickly rushes over to help you back up. “Sorry, sorry, might’ve overdone it a bit.” she tells you apologetically, holding her hand out to you.

You give her a cheeky grin as you take her hand. “Hey, we won, didn’t we? All good in my book.” You’re pulled up by her and give a thumb’s up to the crowds, their cheering growing stronger. ‘However,’ you begin telepathically, ‘Nox is definitely gonna try to use that move later though. We’ll need a counter for it.’

She smirks a bit as the two of you begin to walk towards 19. ‘Oh I’m aware. That’s one reason why I made a big show of it. I know just how to counter it.’

Hah, of course! ‘That’s pretty smart, Pantea. Nice work.’ As the two of you get to 19, it’s your turn to offer a hand to help her up. “Good match indeed. You doing okay there?”

She nods. “Yes. It shows I still have much I need to improve upon, but I feel that this was a good experience.” She looks over to Chiaotzu as he approaches, still a bit scuffed up, but looking okay still. “And I believe I had… fun.”

You pat her shoulder, smiling sweetly. “Glad to hear that. And I’ll be looking forward to our next match, that’s for sure. You’ve certainly improved with your Magical skills.”

“Far beyond what even Gero thought possible for me.” 19 notes, the slightest hint of pride in her voice.

“You did great too, Chiaotzu! Had me on the ropes pretty frequently, and if it weren’t for Pantea, I’m certain I would’ve been taken out of the fight.” you admit. “Got any tips for the next few matches?”

The four of you begin to walk together back to the waiting area as he and 19 think over your question. “I could give you pointers for Krillin, Maple, and your father, but not much beyond that. And if I’m being honest, you’d probably already know most of what I’d suggest to use against Maple and Acer. I don’t believe Nappa will have many answers for your trickier skills, but at the same time I think both he and Krillin know this, and so they’d have planned accordingly.”

“That’s fair…” You hang your head a bit, shoulders slouching.

“I guess the thing I’d bring up on taking Maple and Acer on is… well, finding a way to keep them from bringing out the best in each other.” Chiaotzu tells you. “Now if I knew how to do that, I’d be more than willing to tell ya, but… that’s gonna be tricky.”

“Beyond that, I would say you know your friends Sachie and Zarid better than most the rest of us here.” 19 adds on. “Similarly, you are more aware of how Hado and Sala work than the rest of us.”

Looking forward, you see the four of them all getting ready to head into the ring. Sachie and Zarid look pretty excited, while Sala seems very competitive and Hado more focused and tense.

Sorry about the delay, issues from work required my attention earlier, but we are now back!

“Sachie! Zarid!” you call out to your friends, waving to them. “Best of luck in your match!” You lift up your hands, and the two of them high-five you.

“Thanks Izzy! We’ll kick some butt!” she cheers, pumping her fist into the air joyfully.

“Yeah yeah, yer confident now, but we’ll see how well ya handle us when we get serious!” Sala declares confidently.

“I’ll admit, this is definitely a fight I’m looking forward to.” Pantea remarks, causing Sala to smile. “Lot of interesting contrasts in technique and skill.”

You nod in agreement. “Yeah, while these two are my friends, I hope the two of you do well too. Have a good match!”

“Thank you for that.” Hado responds politely.

“Heh, jus’ you wait, Knickers, we’re aimin’ to see you lot in the finals!” Sala shouts out, marching into the ring.

Sachie, not wanting to be outdone, does a sneaky little ninja dash into the ring, making it look like she appeared out of nowhere as she leaps up from a smoke bomb. Heh, looks like they’re pretty hyped up for this. Zarid leaps in from the stairs and lands beside Sachie, and the two of them strike a pose together. Hado finally gets in last, calm and collected as he stands near his much more rambunctious ally.

“Say, Chiaotzu, 19, any tips for Nox and Ledgic?” you ask quietly, getting near a window, ready to watch the match.

“Ledgic might be the easier to deal with. He’s got Materialization and some other forms of Magic, but I don’t think he’ll be able to pull off anything that’ll catch you by surprise at this point.” he replies in a hushed voice. “Nox though… the best I can really suggest is to surprise him.”

With one arm resting against the bottom of the window, your other arm moves down, hand going into your pocket and fingers gently running along the rim of your Hakkero. If you can save it past the next match, it might be your best bet.

“Fighters ready? BEGIN!”

>A. Cheer on Sachie! Come on girl, you can win this!

‘Let’s keep up our Image Training with this, Pantea. But also…’ You stretch your limbs a bit. “I think I need a drink, kinda parched, and this is some thirsty work.”

“Need some electrolytes then?” Pantea questions with a smirk.

“Oi!” you exclaim, shaking your finger at her. That was a good one. But it still made your legs twitch. Thinking quick, you recall there being a smoothie stand nearby. A nice, classic strawberry-banana might be good. Ah but you might miss some of the fight…

“Nice match, cous!” Peppa congratulates as she approaches with Keli. “Surprised you went with full telekinesis dueling with Chiaotzu, but you pulled off some nice moves with it.”

…Ohohoho. Perfect. You can DELEGATE. “So I guess you two were paying close attention to our match. Got any notes you wanna bring up? We could talk it out over smoothies. I could especially go for a strawberry-banana.”

Her face lights up. “Ooh, smoothies would be great. Pantea, you want some too?”

“Sure, if you’re taking orders.” She gives you a bit of a side-eye, but goes along with it. “They have mango?”

“Think so! Back in a sec.” Peppa teleports away.

You look back towards the ring, and watch as Sala tries to go on the offensive. She flings out genuine Fireballs to get some distance between herself and Sachie, though Sachie’s already using Multi-Form and dashing around to try and confuse her opponent. You and Pantea both agree that Sala’s skills are more oriented in offensive Magic and physical skills, and she definitely seems to be the more aggressive of the pair.

A smoothie slides over to you, and you catch it casually without taking your eyes off the fight. Ahh, strawberry-banana. Good ol’ potassium and… manganese? Eh whatever it’s tasty. “What’d you get, cous?”

“Sakura-dragonfruit.” she responds after taking a sip, standing beside you. “So… something I’ve noticed today is that you’re taking this kinda casually.” Peppa tells you. “Like, you could’ve ended your first fight much quicker than that… were you two focused on trying to figure out Guldo and Recoome’s techniques?”

“You could say that.” you reply, not wanting to completely admit that you did kinda… mess up a couple times.

Peppa nods and sips again. “I get it. Today did seem to be the more technique-oriented set of matches, so lots you could learn.”

“What would you say you’ve learned about our matches?” you ask, seeing Sachie and all her copies athletically dodging and weaving around Sala’s quick strikes, surprisingly not landing a single hit on her yet. The older blonde girl is getting annoyed by this, and so she decides to do something about it, creating what look like… red energy shards between her fingers in each hand. She then leaps up and flings them down, and instead of hitting the multiple Sachies, they explode before they’re dodged and momentarily pin them all with energy. The copies of Sachie vanish one by one, and Sala finally lands her first actual hit of the match with a chop to the top of the ninja schoolgirl’s head. Okay, something to watch out for. Oriented towards but not exclusively reliant on offensive Magics.

“You’ve been the one to lead the charge, so far, yet Pantea’s delivered more of the finishing blows. So… I guess you’ve been acting as the ‘bait’ in a way to line up opponents for Pantea to take out.” She looks over to you. “Not quite what I’ve expected, but it’s worked so far. But how will that work with your next matches?”

“Guess you’ll have to wait and see.” you remark confidently, hoping that sweat dripping down the side of your hear is from the fight and not from nerves. Sachie’s now really trying to avoid hits, as Hado steps into the ring and is boosting Sala up with a Magical buff. Nnnnggghhh. Nox is gonna copy that one for sure. Just when Sala looks like she’ll get a surprise double-palm strike to Sachie’s torso, however, Zarid steps into the ring as well and gets her out of danger. The pair high-five, and he steps ahead of the ninja schoolgirl, baiting Sala to come at him. She attempts a dropkick, but then… Zarid thrusts both hands forward, letting out a ring of… Ki? But one that’s hard to really sense. The heck? Well whatever it is, it stops Sala in midair, held in place by a strange aura.

“RASENGAN!” Sachie yells out, leaping up and hitting Sala with her swirling Ki sphere and knocking her away with tremendous force. Okay, that’s a nice combo, but… you notice Zarid look at you, very directly, with a slight smirk on his face.

It’s… almost like he’s daring you to figure THAT one out. Well, if he insists! You and Pantea both start to think that over. It was LIKE telekinesis somehow, yet he clearly used some form of Ki with that. Why you couldn’t properly detect it though is curious… maybe it’s something he and Sachie came up with together? Hiding his Ki through some… ninja trickery. Yeaaaah. Okay! While that’s hard to really see coming, you can probably counter it with a barrier! And if Sachie tries to pull out a combo like she did just now, barrier could work against that just as well.

But Pantea picks up on something even more important, as she gets you to turn your attention away from the ring and onto Mugen’s duo. Out of the corner of your eye… you also notice that even Nox is actually surprised by that skill. Heeeey, maybe that’s it! His copy ability isn’t perfect!

So. I know trying to make friends with Nox is a bad idea. It'll be a 'Brozotto' scenario all over again buuuut - if he's a 'made only for battle' kind of guy, then maybe we could be...battlefield friends? I bet Nox would love to play an FPS...

Do consider: Mugen is the one who acts as Nox's... "manager" of sorts, not anyone associated with Towa.

Anyway, sorry about the delay again, we're back!

>>5287200
You and Pantea keep up some Image Training, specifically about this Ki binding technique, and how to replicate it. Telekinesis might be a good substitute, it’s hard to really sense and can hold someone in place. Hrmn… maybe you could supplement it some way? Boost it with Magic? Or have a SUDDEN boost with Magic, so it’ll have an added effect. Well, that’s a thing that’ll need practice either way. But it’s a thing you can work on.

Back with the fight, Sala’s switched out to try and recover, while Hado is facing off against Zarid. While Sala was able to kinda keep up with Sachie, or at the very least appear like she’s not completely outclassed, Hado’s waaaaay on the defensive against Zarid. What Magical skills he can bring up aren’t really able to handle Zarid’s speed and agility, and with Zarid launching Ki blasts that travel along the ground, Hado’s forced closer and closer to the edge of the ring.

But then Hado is able to hit Zarid with an MP Buster right as the boy goes in for a dropkick, following it up with a Wind-boosted leap into the air. Zarid misses, and ends up with a fist in his face for his trouble as Sala gets back in, having waited for this chance. That doesn’t hurt him too much, but combined with the depletion of his energy he does end up forced back a bit. Now with some distance between him and his opponents, Hado once again boosts Sala’s power, but this time she opts for a newer strategy, gathering up… shadowy energy around her as energy surges up. And… it’s almost like the light in the ring is dimmed for a moment, then the “darkness” condenses around Zarid.

“ZARID!” Sachie calls out, rushing in and pushing him out of the way before the attack completely connects.

Sala slaps her hands together and the shadowy energy completely condenses around Sachie, a loud and ominous sound echoing through the area. Wait… you think you’ve heard a bit about this technique before. Yeah, in dad’s tome of Magic. “Dark Bomb.” you mumble under your breath. “It’s a more advanced version of the Gravity Blow, forcing energy back in on itself as the one trapped inside tries to escape, finally releasing it all in one explosion.”

“That’s a bit… harsh. Think your friend can handle this?” Peppa asks quietly.

>A. She can. And I’ll cheer her on! COME ON, SACHIE! BREAK THROUGH THIS!
>B. Pantea, that’s definitely something Nox will try to use against us. Let’s focus on ways to overcome it real quick

“She can. And I’ll keep cheering her on! COME ON, SACHIE! YOU CAN DO THIS! YOU GOTTA BREAK THROUGH IT BEFORE IT BECOMES TOO MUCH!” you yell out to your friend, pumping your fist in the air. At the same time, though, ‘Pantea, I think some are catching on to how much we’ve been practicing through image training. Zarid certainly gave the impression he’s figured something out, and there’s no doubt in my mind that others have picked up on something… hrmn, think we should try to like… lay a sort of mental mindscape trap for anyone trying to peak in?’

‘I don’t think we need to go quite that far… even if Nox has me a bit worried he’s gonna try something. Though… maybe we can try an idea from before. Junk data.’

‘Ooooh! Yeah, that’s a good one. False information. Okay, we can work on that.’

Meanwhile, as Sachie struggles against the attack, Sala keeps trying to put in more energy into the attack, her Magic pumping into the sphere of darkness. Hmm. She actually does have pretty substantial reserves on her own, even more than you expected for someone of her strength. But… looks like your words of encouragement reached Sachie! The darkness surrounding her starts to crack, a red aura leaking through it. You can feel her Ki energy raise up a bit… but it’s something more than that.

“Huh…” Keli speaks up in slight surprise. “Peppa, can you sense it too?” she questions quietly, though loud enough that you can hear it too.

Your cousin nods. “Yeah. Yours feels more refined, but…”

“Told ya.” you remark with a proud smirk. “Sachie can do this.”

She punches upward and the sphere of darkness shatters, exploding into a burst of blazing red power. At first it almost looks like she’s got the Kaio-ken, but you notice very quickly that the aura around her is different, flowing and surging in an odd shape, with… a slightly demonic tint to it, yet not a malicious and destructive one. More importantly, her Ki is working in tandem with that of another. Udon, the fox demon. Her eyes open, revealing deep crimson irises. With a toothy grin, she launches off the ground and knocks Hado back down hard, stopping him before he can hit her with an MP Buster. Sala tries to intercept her with a Light-Magic based beam- oh! That’s the Photon Ray spell! …Which reminds you.

‘Aunt Maple, dad, have the two of you ever come across more Tomes of Magic in your travels?’

‘Hm? Oh, yeah, Beelzebub’s given us some as gifts.’ Maple replies. ‘Ah, so you noticed it too.’

‘They’re definitely using spells I’ve seen before, along with some new ones. Think they’ve got one too?’

‘Highly likely. Might be worth having a talk with them about it after the Tournament.’ dad concludes.

Hmm… they did mention someone else. Jaki or somethin’… could be the one who has it. Okay, keep that in mind. Sachie flings both of the combatants around like ragdolls, finally calming herself and leaping out of combat and letting Zarid pin the pair down again.

“Sala and Hado have been in the ring for too long! SACHIE AND ZARID ADVANCE TO THE NEXT ROUND!”

You pump your fist in the air, your cheering for them joining the crowds, “HELL YEAH! Way to go, Sachie! Great job, Zarid!”

Well, that’s one more match down. One more for this round…

“Sachie, Zarid!” you call out to your friends. “You two were awesome out there! Nice job!” You hold your hands up for a double high-five, and they deliver. Yeeeaaaah. Pantea on the other hand opts to chat with Sala and Hado.

“Thanks Izzy! Ahhh I’m all hyped up for our match now!” Sachie exclaims, bouncing on her heels excitedly.

“Indeed. I suspect the two of you learned quite a bit from it as well.” Zarid comments, smirking slightly. “I’ll be looking forward to seeing how well you’ve developed counters for it.”

…Ah. Ah. Yeah. Uh. Well. You just give a cheeky grin instead of confirming or denying anything, and then quickly get in contact with Krillin and Nappa. ‘Hey, so… you guys want any tips on facing those guys? Pantea and I have been thinking on ‘em and I feel like any help with Nox and Ledgic might be worthwhile.’

Nappa looks over to you with a frown, but Krillin nudges his arm. ‘It’s nice of you to offer. We do have some strategies ready, but couldn’t hurt to hear ya out. Whatcha got, Izzy?’

‘Go against what strategies they might expect from you two. They’ll have been watching your match last round carefully, so if you fight counter to what they saw before, it’ll trip them up.’ you explain, grinning at the pair. ‘For example, switching up who’s the more aggressive fighter constantly so they won’t know who they need to guard against.’

Nappa… is actually impressed by the suggestion. He gives a slow but approving nod, and Krillin gives you a thumb’s up. ‘All right, thanks Izzy!’

‘Good luck, you guys will need it.’

Lastly, you scoot away to try and locate Chi-chi. She and Lazuli approach the window together, but you catch your mom’s attention. “Izzy, is something up?”

“Heeeeey, so, reeeeal quick… can you help me with a thing?” You poke your index fingers together and smile as sweetly as you can. The two of you walk for a bit as you telepathically explain, ‘I need to make sure I’ve got the MP Buster down. I believe I’ve got the basics, but can you help me with it?’

Mom’s a little surprised by the question, but she seems willing to go along with it. ‘Okay. Do you just need some practice, or do you need instruction, or is there something else?’

>A. I need some practice, for sure. Just a quick test
>B. Let’s take it from the top, if you don’t mind
>C. Actually… do you know any ways to counter it? I’ve had ideas but I want to make sure

“Let’s take it from the top. I want to be sure I’ve got this right.”

The two of you head away for a bit, and Chi-chi quizzes you on your understanding of the technique. And you… do not do very well with it. You kinda understand the concept, but like… using Magic to defeat Magic is much easier said than done. In fact it’s starting to frustrate you on how much you just… can’t get the finer details down. You’re supposed to be Earth’s newest Mahou! Magic’s your thing! Why are you struggling so much with a skill like this?!

It gets to the point where you even try to perform it and brute force it… and as you try it, you’re distracted by the match as you sense Nappa going Super Saiyan… and his Ki dropping as Nox himself seems to hit him with an MP Buster. Which causes you to completely fail the spell and instead suffer a bit of a blowback, winding you a bit.

Mom pats you on the head gently. “You’re stressing yourself out over this, Izzy. Stay calm, and don’t force it.”

Letting out a deep sigh, you shake your head. “Yeah, just… so much for getting this done before the next round. Hmm… maybe I am going about this the wrong way. Might it be possible to… I dunno, develop a counter to it? Or counter those counters? Or… I dunno, is there a way to make it more of an AOE, hitting a wide range?”

“I would say the last one is… possible, but it’d take some very careful practice to ensure it hits wide.” Chi-chi supposes. “And counters, well, remember that it works by targeting your current Ki and diminishing it. It doesn’t prevent one from charging up energy again. But that’s only in case you get hit. Avoiding it entirely is fairly easy, though one could even just block it with something solid. Materialize a fairly thick shield or something and it’s not going to hit near as hard. But to counteract that, one just needs to hit their opponent from multiple angles.”

“Ah, the Multi-Form…” you remark with a nod. “Okay, those can work.”

Putting in a bit more practice, you get those ideas down a bit better, though you also end up contacted by Pantea. ‘You’re missing quite a bit of this match. You gonna be long, Izzy?’

Exen votes,

>E. It only works if we get it, only on our current energy, and only once, so lets find a way to make a false target for it. A passive "shell" of energy that easily gets hit and drained but isn't actually connected to us otherwise.

>We also might be able to do other passive or reactive effects with this kind of technique later, but we shouldn't get distracted by the possibilities just yet.

‘I… will be back, you’re right that this is important, but I really want to get this down. Oh, wait! I can multi-task!’ You make a copy with Multi-Form and have her head back to Pantea as you try once more to work on the MP Buster. Mom warns that it’s going to be harder now that your attention’s divided, but you are gonna try it anyway. You WILL get this down. The concept is simple: use Magic to attack a foe’s energy reserves. In practice it’s… counter-intuitive. Hmm… wait. Wait that’s it! It’s counter-intuitive! You’re not using this like a normal attack! You’re using this like a DEBUFF!

At the same time, you’re back with Pantea watching as Krillin uses his Destructo Disks to keep Ledgic’s electrified chains at bay while Nappa closes into melee, forcing Nox to keep his distance from Krillin. They ARE starting to regain some momentum, but in doing so, Nox just seems to be getting more and more fired up.

“Good… good! Keep this up, Super Saiyan!” he yells out as they trade blows, both of them looking a bit more even in power, though Nappa’s struggling to keep up with some of Nox’s plethora of copied melee skills. You notice him actually use some of Vegeta’s and even uncle Goku’s moves, avoiding Nappa’s attacks and getting in a Meteor Combination that hits pretty hard.

Krillin’s forced back by Ledgic, with the two exiting combat and getting in a bit of a breather to try and plan out their next moves. Nappa’s still in this, but he hasn’t really gotten a chance to recover his Ki after getting hit with that MP Buster. He stands up, aura blazing around himself, as he grimaces and growls out, “You want to see what I can REALLY do?! THEN FINE, I’LL PULL OUT ALL THE STOPS!” He roars out as he tries to transform, Krillin even jumping in to shield him as Nox tries to attack again.

“So he’s resorted to using Super Saiyan 2…” Peppa comments.

“Wait, something’s wrong.” Pantea notes.

As Nox pummels away on Krillin’s turtle shell Ki shield, you notice Ledgic back in the ring again as well. And instead of attacking either of his foes, he flings down several metallic spears around them. As Nappa’s aura starts sparking up around him… you see Nox grin, and for the briefest moment, look at you. As if he’s… thanking you. Wait. WAIT WHAT?!

Nox’s next attack is fueled by Lightning Magic, and as he punches Krillin’s shield… he just keeps upping the intensity, until there are bolts of lightning flying everywhere. Including… hitting those metal spears stuck in the ground, which you realize weren’t just spears, they were snaking around the floor in a spiral pattern. Two metallic rings are formed around Nappa next. And with one further surge of energy…

“SON OF A-!” the you near mom exclaims.

“Language!” Chi-chi scolds.

“Right, right. Still, damn it… Nox copied and even modified that idea I had into something more! He turned the whole system into one big Tesla Coil!” You throw one of your hands out towards the ring for emphasis… and you manage to fire off the MP Buster!

“BLOODY HELL, WHO DID THAT?!” Sala exclaims. “Watch where you’re aimin’ ya daft c-!” Her mouth is hushed before she can let out some further expletives.

You guess it works!

The sheer excitement over finally getting it down is almost enough to dissipate the anger at being one-upped by Nox like that. You immediately try to experiment with this, thinking on the counters you could manage. Maybe a backfire, like Chiaotzu did with telekinesis? …No, can’t quite get that down. Oh oh oh, you could have a sort of passive “shell” that works like a barrier against the MP Buster. It can get hit, even look like you took damage, but not actually be connected to you! …And that’s sadly an idea that will take too much time to really flesh out, especially at this tournament. Okay. Keep these ideas in mind.

“NAPPA AND KRILLIN ARE UNABLE TO BATTLE! NOX AND LEDGIC ADVANCE TO THE NEXT ROUND!”

Well. There it is.

“Thank you mom. This was a big, big help, and I appreciate you taking the time to go over it with me.” you tell your mother sweetly.

Chi-chi pats you on the head softly. “Glad to help, Izzy. Good luck out there.”

You nod, and return to the waiting area as your copy merges back with you. You see Krillin and Nappa walking back as well, while Nox and Ledgic head over to Mugen. The Machine Mutant congratulates them on their victory, then turns his attention to the defeated fighters. You pop up next to them before Mugen can say anything, though.

“I think a lot of people here were underestimating the kind of teamwork you two were able to pull off, but I’d say you’ve proven them wrong. That was great! Even with your foes pulling out some pretty tricky techniques, neither of you backed down, and both of you had each other’s backs.”

Nappa regards you with doubt. “I know you’re tryin’ to cheer us up a bit, kid, but I don’t think it’ll take. They had us beat pretty thoroughly.”

You rub the back of your neck. “I mean… can’t deny that, but you both were still sticking out for one another until the end. That’s a bit more than I can say about the teamwork someone like… oh… Vegeta pulled off.” you reply in a quieter voice.

Krillin smiles. “Heh, that’s true. Vegeta did kinda need some verbal warnings from Tien, and even then he didn’t really listen. You though? You and I were in sync the whole time.”

The slight melancholy on Nappa’s face fades. “You know what? I’ll take it. Thanks, kid.”

You give them both a thumb’s up, then look over to Mugen. He seems… curious about your little statement there, but otherwise nonplussed. Nox though still has an unsettling look on his face, smug yet weirdly… appreciative? “I look forward to whatever else you have in store.”

“Yyyyyyou too buddy.” You give him a double thumb’s up and move back to Pantea. You know… maybe he isn’t actually like, all that evil? Just… a bit of a battle nut. Ledgic is still giving off pretty disgruntled vibes, and you keep noticing him glaring over at Maple, but Nox is at the very least fighting… honorably, honestly.

Well, things to think on later. Your and Pantea’s match against dad and aunt Maple is next! And you’re all in this to win it!

You and Pantea look at one another and give a silent nod. Well. This is it. You start to walk forward towards the ring with her. Dad and aunt Maple start walking in behind you, the crowds cheering as they see them. Well, good way to remind you that in spite of all you’ve got, all you know you and Pantea can do, you’re still kinda the underdogs here.

“Hey, Izzy.” dad calls to you. You look back to him. “I know you’re probably stressing a bit on Nox and Ledgic. While I am glad you’ve been very focused and attentive on this, remember that the fate of the world isn’t resting on your shoulders. Not alone, at least.”

Maple nods, then telepathically adds, ‘Tell you what, once this is over, let’s compare notes. No matter who wins. Because even if you do face them next round, there’s still one match left. And the same’s true for us. So, whoever wins, let’s help each other out and make sure we’re at our best at the end. Deal?’

Pantea looks to you. She seems like she wants to agree with that, but she’s waiting for your confirmation.

>A. Equivalent exchange, huh? Deal!
>B. What, counting Sachie and Zarid out already? You saw that they can do! Maybe they’ll be the ones to win this whole tournament!

You give her a nod, and respond to Maple telepathically, ‘Equivalent Exchange, huh? Deal! But also, let’s skip the warm-up this time around. Show our real skills from the start, give the crowds a show to remember!’

Maple grins and cracks her knuckles. ‘Sounds good to me. Hope you’re ready, Izzy.’

With the four of you in the ring, you and Pantea fist bump and take battle stances. “Wanna take the lead on this one?”

“Yeah. I’m ready to cut loose.” Her energy surges up, white aura surrounding her as the ground around her shakes.

Maple and Acer look at one another… and decide to Janken for it. Maple picks rock. Good ol’ reliable rock. Aaaaand dad picks paper. Your aunt lets out a “D’oh!” and heads out of the combat zone. You give Pantea a thumb’s up and do the same.

“Fighters ready? BEGIN!”

https://youtu.be/OvGdY2qRHzg

Pantea and dad dash around, and immediately clash in the middle of the ring, the force of it thundering through the area. While dad definitely does have more experience, Pantea’s not exactly far behind in that department… and there’s a definite power difference, as dad’s already forced to use the Raio-Ten to try to keep up with her. Maple is observing them both carefully, but also watching you, trying to guess what you’re about to try.

>A. Aunt Maple, I know you’ve been waiting to really show it off… so let’s do this together. The battle of two Mahous should start off as cool and flashy as possible, right?

‘Aunt Maple. Let’s give them a bit to try some flashy tricks, then cut loose. You’ve been waiting to fully show it off, haven’t you? So come on, let’s give everyone here a good show. The battle of Mahous should be as flashy and awesome as possible!’

Maple crosses her arms and grins. ‘All right Izzy. Whenever you’re ready.’

You watch as Pantea and Acer continue to battle it out, with dad on the defensive as he tries to use the Spirit Ball to help block her blows. Pantea backs up and readies a Charge Shot, but then rockets forward in a burst of speed and shoulder-checks Acer, causing him to stumble back as she fires at full power. Dad isn’t done yet, though, as he claps his hands together and forms a ring of Ki between them, energy sparking within that ring… and it catches the Charge Shot, the Spirit Ball joining in and adding to the now far stronger attack.

“REVENANT REVERSAL CANNON!” dad declares, firing the attack right back at Pantea. She dodges it at the last minute… or so she thinks, as the attack makes a sharp turn and hits her right in the back, stunning her. Damn. Dad’s been keeping that one a secret.

‘I’m heading in, Pantea!’ you warn your partner, and let your aura erupt around you. As you leap upward, an emerald glow surrounds your body. “HENSHIN! YUUSHAAAAA!”

https://youtu.be/5xa-hCJdx0I

The emerald glow erupts into a brilliant flash of power, your Mahou outfit forming around you. You float in the air, striking a heroic pose. But then you see Maple’s aura, blazing and sparking red and gold, finally showing off her Mahou form. Large armored shoulderpads, a flowing cape and even a sort of coat-waistcape hybrid, her hair no longer tied in a bun but now wild and free, and you notice both earrings like the one Supreme Kai wears and small gems around her outfit. And all of it shines and shimmers as if it were made of glitter, but you can tell that it’s her own raw Magical power doing so.

You… also feel that her power might be a bit greater than your own. Crap. But you’re not backing down! You fling out a blitz of Ki blasts, each of them empowered with a different Magical boost. Fire, Lightning, Light, Shadow, Ice, Water, Wind! …And Maple counters all of them with ease, redirecting them back at you with some of her own power added into them. Crap.

You try to dodge the returned attacks, even leading some over to dad, but Maple holds out her hand and somehow redirects them while in flight so they all come crashing into you. Crap, that’s why she boosted their power. She did the same thing dad did. Is it telekinesis? Or a Magical enchantment? …Maybe they’re homing in on your Magic. Crap. Well, that’s clever, but puts you at even more of a disadvantage.

Speaking of dad, he snaps his fingers and creates a circular wall of flames around himself forcing you and Pantea back a bit… and you also sense him moving upward, spiraling upward and somehow wreathing himself in the flames, as if he’s merged them into his own aura. Dad then rockets downward, yelling out, “RED COMET KIIIIICK!”

You scramble to get out of the way, but thankfully Pantea has your back here, meeting him with the Shinespark and clashing in midair. You let out a sigh of relief and return focus to Maple. Well, let’s see… aha! You haven’t tried out a proper Lightning move in Mahou Mode. Let’s see what spin you could take on the Phantom Spark! Let’s see… oooh, don’t just make it strong, make it LOUD! You clap your hands together and leap high into the air, getting above Maple as you charge up Lighting Magic between them. “All right, time for a SHOCKING new move!” The energy crackles between your hands as you call out, “TAKE THIS! SIX FEET THUNDER!”

(cont.)
>>
>>5295570
https://youtu.be/J3BBbjDZ5rs

You launch it downward, the attack bellowing through the area, several loud booms echoing out through it. But before it reaches Maple, she forms a trio of Spirit Bits around her… ones that become massive and powerful orbs of crackling energy. Craaaap those have Lightning Magic too. They form a shield that takes your attack… and then start charging as well.

“Not bad, Izzy, but I’ve had something similar for a while. TRINITY SPARK!”

Titanic blasts of sparking energy fire off from the triple behemoth Spirit Bits, all that power going right up to you. You think quickly and form a barrier to take the brunt of the attack, but that’s still enough to knock you away. You hit the ground hard, then see dad charging a Kamehameha out of the corner of your eye. Once again though, Pantea’s there to get you out of the way, grabbing you and sliding you out of combat after deflecting Acer’s Kamehameha. Your dad takes the hint and ducks out as well, and it’s just Pantea and Maple in the ring.

You sit up, regaining your focus and trying to figure out your next move…

>A. All right, she needs some support. Armor her up!
>B. Pantea, switch with me. I still want to take on Maple, and I’ve still got a plan

You sit down meditatively and focus your energy, doing what you can to recover your strength as you observe Pantea and Maple fighting. This isn’t working, and you need something to use against them. Dad’s in perfect sync with Maple, and you know neither have pulled out their best just yet. Maybe you can focus on him, get a wedge between them and then divide and conquer. But… they’d expect that, wouldn’t they? Hmm…

Pantea bolts around the area, dodging Maple’s attacks. Even with a couple close calls, she IS managing to keep herself from being on the defensive, taking shots at Maple from afar while trying to counter her Magic. Hmm… she’s going to need a bit of a boost, though. Okay. You think you’ve got a good read on Maple and dad’s strategy. ‘Pantea, dad’s gonna jump in again soon the moment you think you have the upper hand against Maple. We’ll switch focus to him the moment that happens, hit him with a surprise attack! Sound good?’

https://youtu.be/3avE7RHq4-c

‘I’ll hold you to it, Izzy!’ She flings out a Ki blast as Maple sends out a barrage of Lightning-boosted shots from her Spirit Bits, then fires at her own Ki blast and creates a scattering effect that keeps many of those shots out of her way as she rockets upward at Maple, her aura focusing around her torso and streams of energy firing off out of her back, almost making it look like she has wings of Ki coming off her.

Dad leaps into the ring and snaps his fingers at the same time Maple does, letting out a blaze of Fire that threaten to surround Pantea. You get in to try and armor her before the attack connects… but Maple catches you out of the corner of her eye and has her Spirit Bits chase you down, preventing you from helping your partner! Damn it! You swerve around them, thankfully able to get a good read on them before they hit you, but the flames catch Pantea.

For a moment, she’s stopped in her tracks by the blazing sphere surrounding her… but only that moment. Pantea lets out a ferocious yell as she seems to grab one of the energy wings she made and stabs upward with it, piercing through the top of the flaming sphere. The other wing then is thrust downward to pierce the bottom. Pantea flings her arms out wide and breaks through it completely, and looks like dad wasn’t expecting that! He gets knocked away by one of them, taking a solid hit!

>A. Armor up Pantea and boost her up even further while you have the chance!
>B. Hero’s Barrier! Reflect those Spirit Bits’ shots!
>C. Charge down at dad! You might be able to trick the Spirit Bits into hitting him instead!

You keep avoiding the Spirit Bits, flying up towards Pantea. She tries to deflect Maple’s next attack with the wings, but Maple’s tricky. She has her Spirit Bits move away from you and actually surround Pantea’s Ki wings to lock them in place with barriers. She then fires off a quick, Lightning-boosted Geist Magnum at Pantea. But you’re not gonna let it connect! You hold your hands out and grant her Magical Armor, allowing her to take the hit with little in the way of negative side-effects.

Maple’s surprised by the tactic, and as she sees you bring your hands to your face, she smirks and chuckles a bit, casually getting some thick sunglasses on. You call out “SOLAR FLARE!” …but then COMPLETELY change tactics! And Maple seems to realize it too late, letting out a gasp of surprise as she seems to see the attack coming, but can’t react in time! You fire the MP Buster and score a direct hit! Maple’s energy drops, but more importantly she struggles to keep her Mahou form. She’s forced to back out, trying to recover her Ki, which allows you and Pantea to go after Acer!

Firing some Magic-enhanced Ki blasts to keep him in one place, you back out too, allowing Pantea to close in and hit him over the head with a sledgehammer blow! Dad’s knocked into the ground hard enough that he actually bounces back up, allowing Pantea a chance for a follow-up Wolf Fang Fist!

This is it! This is working! Maple’s trying to recover her energy as quickly as possible, but she can’t do both that and help dad effectively! You even hear Videl and Yamcha cheering on Pantea, rooting for her to keep this up. You’re recovering your energy well enough, too. The tide’s finally turning. What next?

>A. Divide and conquer! Pantea, combo move so we can take my dad down for sure!

What if instead of using the real Hakkero, we create a pseudo-Hakkero and pretend to use it? Hell, give Pantea a false one too, pretend like we can mass produce these things. When reality these fake hakkeros are actually...TRAP! We've witnessed Peppa's ki mines enough we could make our own 'Hakkero Bombs' by proxy. Mix'em up with different elements, maybe even make one into a glitter bomb.

You meditate to manage your Ki for a bit, but keep an eye on Maple. She’ll jump in as soon as she’s recovered her energy. And you need to keep supporting Izzy while you’ve got the chance. She’s taking the lead here, but maybe you can pull off something to help her out? You find your hand moving to the Hakkero- …no. Not yet. But that does give you a bit of an idea. You’ll try that when you see an opening.

Pantea brings out her Spirit Bits again, moving them to her hips and syncing her aura with them once more, dashing back quickly and firing out beams from those Spirit Bits that dad struggles to avoid. He slams his hands on the ground and lets out a pulse through the ring, then lifts his hands up and turns it into a geyser of energy that blasts upward. Pantea blitzes through it, though, and manages to grab Acer and toss him into the air. With the enhanced Spirit Bits at her hips, her others surround her as she brings her hands together, making twin gun shapes with them. “TAKE THIS! FULL BURST!”

You jump into the ring, knowing Maple’s about to do the same, and share your Ki with Pantea to give her that extra boost. But to your surprise, Maple does the unexpected. She actually just teleports to dad with Instant Transmission, and then to you just as quickly, avoiding the attack all together. You leap back, materializing a little surprise in your hand. “That’s not working this time! TAKE THIS!” You hold out an octagonal object, energy flowing through it… and Maple stops it before you can use it, causing it to pop in your hand with telekinesis. Glitter flutters to the ground. “…Ah. Aheh.” Crap. Crap crap crap crap.

Maple and Acer then high-five… and she shares her energy with dad, boosting his power as she grants him an armored up form, with dad saying but one thing with a smirk on his face. “HENSHIN.” Just like you did with Pantea, though dad’s seems even more elaborate. Chest and waist armor, gauntlets, pauldrons, greaves, and even a scarf. It… almost reminds you of something out of a tokusatsu show. He and Maple strike a pose, their auras blazing around them.

And Pantea leaps in once again, not deterred by this in the slightest, forming wing-like energy shields around her forearms. You don’t skip a beat, jumping in with her and empowering the shields with Wind Magic, with Pantea using the boost to block the expected combined attack from Maple and Acer. She next swings them away and uses that combined power from your boost and her own energy to try something a bit new. “Izzy! Keep up that boost!” she requests, telepathically adding, ‘Add in Light if you can!’, and you comply! Pantea adds in Lightning Magic to the wings as you keep up the Wind boost, and pump it up more with Light Magic!

‘Can you manage it?’ you ask with concern.

‘Yeah, it’s hard but it’s holding. Just need it for one attack.’ You see dad taking aim with a Geist Magnum, Maple getting her Spirit Bits ready again as she gets this ready. Noticing that you’re still boosting her strength, Maple sends the Spirit Bits after you again, and while you do end up taking a couple hits, it’s too late to stop what’s about to happen. Pantea slams both fists into the ground and roars out, “REKKOHAAAA!” Energy erupts from the ground in pillars, then rains down as homing meteors of energy! Maple and Acer, even armored up, end up having to stop what they’re doing and block them all. Dad is hit pretty hard, and even with Maple getting her Spirit Bits around her as a barrier, that still leaves a mark on her too.

Okay, you… think you’re about even with them right now. Pantea’s still in pretty good shape all things considered, while dad, Maple, and yourself might have to worry about conserving power again. What next, what next…?

>A. Back out again, Pantea’s holding her own pretty well still, and you’ve got a solid pattern going now

Okay. You’ve got it. Pantea’s taking the lead here, but there needs to be some sort of distraction. But what’d be the best one to use…? WAIT. YOU’VE GOT IT! You grin wide, firing out several floating orbs and use telekinesis to have them move towards Maple and Acer. Dad backs away first, not sure what you’re trying but knowing better than to get too close to it. Maple on the other hand has her Spirit Bits form a barrier around her, but that just gets Pantea to start bombarding it with her own barrier. Maple’s locked down!

Acer blitzes right at Pantea, trying to catch her by surprise. This armored up form is DEFINITELY a better boost than the one you’ve given to her, you’ll need to learn how to better improve yours another time, but it’s not enough to make him overpower her. His fist is blocked with her forearms, small flames jetting out from it, as he then attempts to rush her with a series of punches and kicks. Thankfully, Pantea’s able to block and counter most of them, even getting a few hits in herself. Dad and Pantea eventually knock each other back with a Cross Counter, and that’s when you get the orbs back over to him.

‘Pantea, back away!’ you warn.

She returns focus to Maple but jumps up high, ready to avoid whatever you’ve got in store for them. Dad and Maple fire up their auras, and in doing so actually pop the fragile barriers you had around the orbs. Revealing the lurking surprise inside. GOATS. “…Aw damn it.” dad grumbles out, as you pop ALL the glitter-filled goats, showering the pair in an industrial-sized bag’s worth of glitter!

Grinning mischievously, you wave at them with your own glitter stained hand. “Gotcha~!”

Maple floats out of the ring to try and get it all off, while Pantea takes advantage of Acer’s distraction to hit him with a Charge Shot, stunning him and keeping him in place for a moment! …And you also notice that there’s a counter ticking up. 14 seconds. 15.

‘Pantea, you’ve been frontlining almost the whole fight. I’ll take the lead, you rest a bit and catch your breath.’

https://youtu.be/cSYV1lKeh9c

She nods and leaps away, and dad has to get the remaining glitter off of him first, allowing her to go through without much issue. Though thinking about it, you also give her ooooone more boost to the armor, trying to ensure it’s protected against the elements… aaaaaand strike a cool pose as you do. All right. Time to make this FUN. Your emerald aura surges around you, and you slam your hands on the floor, freezing it over. Dad, still stunned a bit, slips and falls, but quickly gets back up, leaping into the air and launching a Spirit Ball at you, but also attempting to kick down at you.

But you’re more than ready for that. You leap into the air and deliver a spin-kick that launches out a swirling blast of wind, keeping the Spirit Ball from reaching you. Acer’s armor erupts in a blaze of fire as he doesn’t let the winds bother him, but you’re more than ready for it. With a cheeky smirk, you tell him, “Chill out, dad.” And you just move aside and let him kick into the icy floor. It DOES melt it… but it also eases the flames. You then smirk, shooting a Lightning-boosted Ki blast that hits the water. That delivers another shock, and keeps him in place once more. “What, too shocking? Well, since you’ve got your flames on, you won’t mind if I turn up the heat too, right?”

Your Spirit Bits fly out, empowered by Fire Magic, and start taking pot shots at him, disorienting him a bit. For emphasis, you even Materialize a comically oversized thermostat… aaaand adjust it as you keep up the firing. Dad’s Spirit Ball rams through it and smashes it apart. That distracts you long enough that you notice too late Maple teleporting in and getting Acer away, even starting to heal him up. Crap!

‘Pantea, recover as much as you can. I’ll keep this up. I’ve got an idea.’ you tell your partner, cracking your knuckles. Maple and Acer are both in the ring, which means you’ve got a chance to disorient them. And maybe… “TAKE THIS! SOLAR FLARE!” You call out as you actually use Multi-Form and make it look like it’s another distraction… but in reality you’re going through with it, and then some! You amplify the Solar Flare with Light Magic. Maple’s too quick on the draw for you to trick her again, but dad’s caught by surprise with it! He isn’t blinded thanks to his armored up form, but he is off-guard! Your copy near him grabs him by the scarf and swings him towards Maple line a meteor hammer!

She tries to block it, but still gets knocked off her feet. Maple and Acer actually try one last little trick, with her energizing him with Lightning Magic, which travels down his scarf. It’d be clever… but your copy’s already let go. You can hear people cheering your name, rooting for you. Sachie, Zarid, 19, even Fu to your surprise. In fact… you’ve got a golden opportunity here! Both yous materialize a pair of non-conductive PTO-armor ropes and grab on to the end of dad’s scarf and even around him and Maple, doubling down on this! Literally! The electricity fails to zap through the material as the two of you swing them around, the rubbery rope stretching out a bit. You finally let go of it, and the two are flung away! You… you might have won this!

…Except you’re sadly not that lucky. You start to feel a bit drained as you see dad break the materials, tossing Maple forward. She attempts to save him from ring-out, but she realizes she doesn’t have the time. So instead she focuses on you.

“Izzy, look out!” Pantea warns, jumping in to try and help. But it’s not quickly enough. Maple teleports to your copy and hits her with a palm strike. A palm strike that fires off a point-blank MP Buster. And the sudden imbalance in power causes her to fade, and disorient you slightly. Just enough that she repeats the trick, hitting you with a point-blank MP Buster again, then knocking you to the ground. Both times Pantea tried to prevent it, and both times she failed. You hit the ground hard, drained and letting out a pained groan.

It’s… actually kinda hard to get back up. Crap. You don’t know how long it’ll take to recover your energy enough to access Mahou again, much less get back in the fight. Damn it… are, are you really spent?

>A. Keep trying to get up, Pantea’s counting on you! You’re NOT giving up like this!

You use what strength you can muster to roll yourself over, getting on your hands and knees. Hard to move, but you’ll push yourself as much as you need. Gotta get out of the arena. Don’t want Pantea to lose because you were in too long. You’ve… you’ve done your part so far. You try to stand… but it’s hard, and you fall to your hands and knees again. You look up, and see Maple fighting Pantea. She’s taken some damage, but it’s not enough to really slow her down. Thankfully, Pantea’s still at pretty much close to full. She engages in a Spirit Bit battle against Maple, even holding back another attempt by Maple to use the Trinity Spark attack!

The count starts to tick up. You do manage to get to your feet, but at that point Maple notices you, and fires down… a Clothes Beam. For a Godzilla-sized scarf, massive as it seems comfortable. You might be able to avoid it, but it’s gonna be close. …Unless… well, use it real quick, just to get out of combat! Your hand goes to your Hakkero, and you send a surge of whatever energy you have left through it… and it reacts with the circuits and Magic inside it! A quick but revitalizing surge of power courses through your body, and you waste no time in getting out of there!

The scarf hits the ground with a loud THUD, but you’re outside of combat, and not a moment too soon. Your energy fades as you pocket the Hakkero again, laying on your back and trying to catch your breath. Looking up, you see Maple and Pantea clash in midair, Pantea leveraging her power advantage as best she can, even getting a few good hits in, finishing with a Geist Magnum that sends Maple back. Yet Maple still manages to pull out one more trick, holding her hands out and creating a swirl of energy with them… one that manages to briefly hold Pantea in place. She attempts to redirect Pantea towards the edge of the ring, but thankfully the armor you granted her reacts by letting out a burst of Magic, allowing Pantea a chance to get free!

…And then it cracks and shatters, all that power used up, and no you there to give it any more. Daaaamn it. You still feel exhausted, and while Pantea’s still in this fight, you’re growing more and more wary of what tricks Maple has up her sleeves. Is there anything you can do to help?

>A. Force yourself back in there. Provide a distraction for Pantea, at the very least
>B. No. You need to trust her, and also focus on your own recovery

You know what? No. You trust her. You KNOW she can do this. You’ll focus on your own recovery. Forcing yourself to sit up, you start cheering out, “COME ON, PANTEA! YOU CAN DO THIS! YOU CAN DO THIS! MAPLE CAN’T HOLD OUT FOREVER, YOU’RE ALMOST THERE!”

Pantea looks back at you and smiles, then faces Maple, her white aura surging around her once more. Others join in, cheering her on. Not just her friends and family, but members of the audience as well. Maple takes a brief moment to look around. She’s still hearing her own name cheered out… but it’s fainter compared to Pantea’s. There’s… a melancholic yet warm and almost… accepting smile on her face. She looks back at Pantea, and just gives a nod of acknowledgement.

They clash in midair, Pantea opting to try to keep in close combat for a time, which Maple attempts to counter with the Izumi combo… but is caught off-guard as Pantea hits her with a point-blank eruption of Fire Magic!

You try to make it look like you’ll jump in too, calling out attacks to try to get Maple to slip up… aaaaand no dice. So you resign yourself to recovery. Your hands on the Hakkero, you… think you might be able to speed this up. It’s going to be risky. But it might just be what you need. ‘Izzy, I think I’ve got something. Just hold tight.’ You pulse your energy through it, Ki reacting with Magic and pumping back into you. The pulses steadily become a flow, much like normally charging your Ki, but with a way, way greater potency. Your body’s still fairly sore and it’s not quite healing you, but it’s enough to give you a real second wind.

It doesn’t go unnoticed. ‘So that’s what you’ve been working on all this time, huh?’ Maple’s voice calls to you in your mind.

A bead of nervous sweat drips down your forehead. ‘Is there an issue with this?’

‘Not at all. Quite the opposite, actually. Looks like it’s a rousing success. I don’t think Nox will be able to copy it all that easily. But I have to ask: do you think this will be enough to take him and Ledgic on?’ Looking up, you see Pantea trying to hit Maple down with a sledgehammer blow… only to end up getting zapped as Maple creates an electrified barrier. She knocks Pantea away and looks down towards you. ‘Acer and I still had some tricks up our sleeves. But I can also see where the winds are blowing. I want the two of you to show me you’ve got what it takes to not just win against us, but against them, and even Peppa and Keli.’

>A. All right, you asked for it! Mahou Mode Izzy, one more time!
>B. Hit her with one of your finishers! You CAN win this, this whole tournament!

‘I’m all fueled up again and ready to go! Take the lead and tell me what you need, Pantea!’

She floats back a bit from Maple, watching carefully. ‘I just need a clear shot. Do you have anything you think can keep her pinned down?’

‘Just might! On your mark.’ You stand up, your aura flaring around you again. Hmmm… gonna need a cool victory pose with this. And you know just the thing!

Pantea keeps her distance and tries to keep focus on her with a blitz of Ki blasts. Maple avoids them with ease, even catching and reflecting a few back at her. You hold your hands up as you get back in the ring, trying to keep Maple in place with Telekinesis. Pantea starts moving her arms wildly once again, a blazing sphere in front of her one more time. “IT’S OVER! SHIN! BURNING ATTACK!”

You keep holding Maple in place as Pantea launches the attack…! But your hold suddenly disappears, with Maple vanishing. GAH. Instant Transmission again! Where is she, where is she…? Pantea’s attack flies through the air, headed upwards, eventually detonating in a brilliant explosion. One that masks Maple’s presence as she teleports above Pantea, delivering a Machinegun Punch boosted with Lightning. Pantea falls to the floor, stunned slightly. You quickly try to help her up and pass the Hakkero to her with slight of hand, but Maple teleports to you both and knocks the two of you away with an Explosive Wave. Damn it!

“This isn’t your best! Come on! You’re both holding back on me!” she yells out, taking a fighting stance. You notice the massive Spirit Bits high in the air. Crap, she’s gonna try that again…

>A. Mahou Mode, on the double! You need to take this seriously!
>B. That’s it, you’re gonna use a finisher of your own!
>C. Pantea, we need to hit her at the same time! Combo it up!

All right. You’re gonna finish this. “HENSHIN! YUUSHAAAA!” With a victorious tune echoing out, you transform into Mahou Mode once more. ‘Pantea! We’ll finish this together! I WILL keep her down! You just need to finish it!’

‘Okay. I’ve got one last thing I can try. Ready Izzy?’

‘Ready!’

‘GO!’

Pantea’s white aura and your emerald one erupt with power, Maple directing her massive Spirit Bits to follow you both, charging with frightening power. Pantea dashes around to try and avoid them, while you? You head right at Maple! She backs up, knowing she doesn’t want to get caught in her own blast. You hold out your arms, Light Magic coursing through one, Shadow Magic in the other. You clasp them together, a swirl of energy blasting forward, which you enhance with Wing Magic to keep Maple in place. She realizes she’s been caught, and attempts to teleport away again, but you’re not letting that happen! “NOT THIS TIME!” you roar, closing the distance and letting out the chaotic energy into a sphere. Maple’s caught in the attack, and she realizes she can’t get out of there without taking you with her. “HELL! AND! HEEAAAAVEEENNN!”

“TRINITY…!” she begins, the Spirit Bits now focused on you and her both as she tries to push back the energy surrounding her. You also notice her breathe out some phrase, and her energy begins to rise. Crap. Pantea, come on…!

A crack of thunder echoes through the area as something pierces through one of the giant Spirit Bits. And then another. And finally a third. It hits so hard that all three actually explode in a spectacular fashion. You could barely see what did it, but you could sense Pantea’s energy there. She’s circling back. You know that if you stop now, she’ll escape, so you’re gonna risk it. You start to push Maple forward with you, with her still trying to push out of it.

“SHINESPARK… V-MAAAAAAX!” Pantea screams, hitting Maple like a blazing blue comet. The sheer force of the attack is enough to almost knock you away, but only almost. You fly forward with her, and in the blink of an eye, all three of you are rocketing out of the ring. The sheer force from Pantea’s attack finally causes your own attack to detonate, knocking both you and Maple away. You hit the edge of the ring, your power fading, and finally falling to the ground. Out of bounds. And… starting to lose consciousness.

But before you do, you also see Maple, knocked out, ringed out. And Pantea’s floating in midair. She did it. You both did it. A smile appears on your face as your eyes close. You don’t quite hear it, but you don’t need to. You and Pantea have won.

Meanwhile, up at Grand Kai’s place with Gohan…

“Now that was a finish! Dang, those girls are something else!” Grand Kai comments, sitting back a bit. “How ya feelin’ about this one, Gohan?”

“There’s… a number of mixed emotions there, I’ll admit.” you respond, handing Buu another bucket of popcorn. “Even with all that power mom and uncle Acer attained, even with all that teamwork they trained for, they still managed to lose, even if it was a close call. Part of me kinda hoped they’d still managed to pull out a win. But at the same time… I’d been cheering for Izzy and Pantea the whole time. They were the underdogs in that fight, and it showed. Izzy especially seemed to struggle through the match…” You look over to Supreme Kai, Kibito, and Elder Kai. “Buuuut looks like that time she and Videl spent up here is still paying off.”

Elder Kai smirks a bit at you. “Is that all you’re gonna say about her?”

“It’s all I’m gonna say out loud.” you respond with just a hint of snark, giving him a look that is very clearly asking him to not press any further but letting him keep guessing on his own. It’ll keep him occupied.

“In any case, this has been a surprising turn of events.” Shin comments. “But I will admit I am worried about what Majin Nox is planning…”

“His presence here is most troubling.” Kibito remarks. “Yet he also does not seem to be the battle-crazed maniac that he once was. How did that Mugen individual manage to calm him so?”

You give Buu a pat on the head, which causes him to look up at you with a big friendly smile. “Well, that’s a question for after Izzy and Pantea have won today.”

“Confident they will, huh?” Grand Kai asks.

“I simply believe in them, even if it’s an uphill battle. Izzy’s got one last trump card to pull, after all.” You grin. “One that even I couldn’t beat.”

Back at the tournament…

Your consciousness slowly returns. You’re being healed up in the waiting area, though your head still kinda feels fuzzy. With your vision returning, you spot Sachie and Zarid near you, the two of them a little concerned, but relieved when you come to. “Holy crap, Izzy! That was AWESOME!” Sachie exclaims.

“Heh… guess that confirms we won, huh?” you ask groggily, sitting up properly. Maple’s beside you, still helping you recover.

“Yep.” she confirms. “You two bested us. Good job.”

Dad gives you a soft and affectionate pat on the head. “Proud of you, Izzy.”

You look around and see Pantea close by, Sala and Hado talking with her, Yamcha with his arm around his daughter and giving her similar words of praise. “Kinda still sinking in…”

“Well, don’t let it go to your head! You’ve still got Zarid and I next round!” Sachie declares. “Lookin’ forward to that!”

Nox and Ledgic are already walking towards the ring. Sachie stands and gives you a thumb’s up, Zarid doing the same. Maple, meanwhile, telepathically asks you, ‘Ready to compare notes?’

‘Yes, but just a moment.’ you tell Maple, then giving both Sachie and Zarid a fist bump. “Best of luck, guys! Now go kick some ass out there.”

“Thanks, Izzy. We will.” Sachie says confidently.

“Real quick though…” you motion for them to huddle closer. “Given all Nox has seen so far, he’s doubtlessly going to have some new moves he’s just itching to try out. Do the two of you have any surprises you’ve been holding back? Because you might just be able to catch him off-guard with them.”

“We’ve still got a couple things.” Zarid responds. “But most of them are reliant on combos.”

“There’s also one more trick. In fact it should be ready right about… now!” There’s a soft dinging sound that catches your attention, and Sachie looks away. “Be riiiiight back!” She leaps away to a… cup of ramen. Oh! Oh right! She wolfs it down quickly and stands tall, flexing a bit… as her Ki starts to spike up. “Okay, combo attacks! Thanks Izzy! Zarid, let’s go! Go go go go go!” she yells, bouncing on her heels and motioning towards the doorway.

He nods and waves goodbye to you as Sachie is almost dragging him out the doorway. Hope that boost lasts enough for it to really count. ‘Okay, Aunt Maple, I think we’re ready. Pantea?’

‘Ready.’ She moves to sit by you, Sala and Hado following her.

She nods and looks towards the ring as she begins. ‘So, a big thing I’ve noticed about Nox’s copy ability is that it isn’t QUITE perfect. While he can very, very easily copy attacks that use martial arts, Ki, or even Magic, transformations might be a lot harder. I don’t doubt he’s figured out how things like the Kaio-ken, Raio-ken, or even Kaio-Ten work, I don’t think he has full access to them. Moreover, while he might be able to boost his abilities with Magic, I doubt he really has the ability to use a true Mahou form like ours. I can’t quite say if he can mimic giving his partner a boost with that kind of ability, though…’

‘Actually while we’re on that point, how DID you pull that off, aunt Maple? Like, I was able to give Pantea a kind of shield, but what you did with dad’s ended up much, muuuuch more elaborate.’ You give your dad a side-eye as you next ask, ‘And why didn’t it match yours to begin with?’

‘Well that’s an easy one.’ Dad responds. ‘The form it took was more my idea than hers. And I figure, that one looked cool.’

‘Coulda’ done more to coordinate your outfits…’ you mumble.

‘...How much have you heard?’ you ask her, giving her the side-eye now.

‘Nothin’! But yer all quiet and lost in thought and whatever, pretending to pay attention’ to the next match.’ she responds, returning the side-eye. ‘Jaki pulls the same trick every now and then.’

‘We’re sharing info on how to confront Nox.’ Pantea tells her. ‘Do you have anything you want to add?’

‘Ya got a way to seal ‘em? Block out his powers?’ she questions.

Maple looks at you, then at her. ‘I do have some sealing techniques as last resorts. Some depowering ones too. Izzy though… well?’

‘...Weeee’ve got the MP Buster? And a few Shadow Magic tricks, illusion dispelling stuff…’ Well crap. That is something you’re lacking in at the moment. ‘But otherwise we’ve been focusing more on his skills as a tactician. Make him think we’ll fight one way, then blindsight him with something completely different.’

‘Actually not a bad idea.’ dad tells you with a nod. ‘And you’ve been holding back your real trump card, haven’t you?’

‘Yeah. The temptation came to use it, but I also knew it was something we have to save for when we had no other options. Besides…’ You face your partner. ‘I had my faith in Pantea the whole time.’ She smiles at that.

Sala nods. ‘Heh, helluva’ finish there, I’ll admit. Okay, so you’ve got that idea circling around in yer heads. Is that all though?’

‘Maple, what else do you suggest? Any other things you were planning on pulling out against Nox?’

‘Fusion. Acer and I would still be able to pull it off. Even if Nox could copy the movements of it, Ledgic might not be as experienced with the technique. Which means that if they tried it… well, I think you’re familiar with failed fusions.’

‘Granny Pizza has dealt with young whippersnappers before.’ you comment, recalling your… attempt… at fusing with Peppa, glancing over at Videl for a moment. ‘But okay, that sounds like a good strategy.’

‘Provided it doesn’t cause any trouble with the rules.’ Pantea notes. ‘But I can’t imagine Pilaf would be that upset over such a display.’

You cross your arms. ‘Well, we’ve got some options now. My Mahou Knight, Pantea’s power, getting in some debuffs, and potentially Fusion if it comes to it.’

‘They might try to divide and conquer.’ dad points out. ‘Which means the two of you might need to pull that off first.’

‘Another thing we should keep in mind.’ you say with a nod. ‘All right, Pantea? Let’s brainstorm on this. We need to get some strategies ready with these ideas.’

The two of you start to plot out where you can go from here. Mahou Mode with some Shadow Magic attacks might be a good start, but could also trick Nox into trying to mimic some transformations, maybe? See him fail at the Kaio-ken and then strike ‘em while he’s distracted. Pantea adds in that she might be able to take Ledgic out on her own, if you can keep Nox from trying to attack her. Divide and conquer. Hrmn… chance that Nox might try to use stuff like Multi-Form, maybe even Instant Transmission with it. So you might need to do the same.

And then there’s fusion. No way around this. You and Pantea will need it as a last resort. But that also means being able to actually pull it off. So… the two of you try some image training with it. Two streams, converging at two points, flowing together to create a newer, stronger stream. An image in your mind grows clearer and clearer. You… might be able to pull this off.

You stand up, stretching a bit as you can sense that the fight in the ring is already picking up. “I’m gonna chat with 16 for a bit, see if he has any input.” you tell Pantea.

She stands as well. “Okay. I’m gonna focus on the match.”

Walking over, you watch as Sachie carefully and skillfully dodges around Ledgic’s attacks, even obfuscating her Ki as she uses the Multi-Form to get in closer. The alien’s growing increasingly frustrates at her games, but that looks to be playing into a strategy she and Zarid have set up. As you get to 16, you comment to him, “They aren’t doing too bad, for as big a power gap there is between them.”

He nods in affirmation. “Indeed, yet I feel that is partially the result of Ledgic not taking them as seriously as prior fights.”

“You have any lingering thoughts on your match? How might you have dealt with them, knowing what you do now?” you inquire.

16 crosses his arms. “I see you’re still trying to get every angle you can on how to face them. You and Pantea could do to make it a bit less obvious.”

You flinch a bit as you hear that. “Ouch. Harsh.”

“I am not criticizing the act of it. That is smart. But doing so for that long makes you look suspicious.” 16 tells you with a bit of a smirk. “Regardless, I have been going over some ideas. One of them being destroying as much of the ring as possible to get them out on technicality.”

“That… sounds risky.” you tell him with hesitation. “Smart, but risky.”

“Another would be using myself to try to ring both of them out, much as you did against Maple and Acer.” he states. “Both tactics have an admittedly lower chance of victory than I would have cared for.” 16 looked forward once more. “I also suggest you try not to overthink this. Find a strategy that has both solid foundation, but adaptable enough that you can keep up with what they might try to pull. And accept that you will still need a bit of luck to win this.”

Hooh. Okay. Done with that, sorry about the delay. We are back!

You smile up at 16, nodding, then head over to where Pantea’s standing and really start observing the fight with her. Ledgic keeps trying to hit Sachie, which leaves him open for something Zarid’s been waiting for. He holds his hands out and makes a circle of energy… that you can’t detect. This technique again! Ledgic’s caught by it, an aura surrounding him as he’s held in place. You start to cheer out for your friends, “COME ON, ZARID! YOU CAN DO IT, SACHIE!”

“UDON! NOW!” Sachie roars, her Ki spiking up higher and a red aura blazing around her as she forms a sphere of energy in her hand. “RASENGAN!”

But before the technique can connect, Nox teleports in front of Ledgic, catching Sachie’s technique. A wide, manic grin on his face. “The demonic partner you share the power of is quite interesting.” He then pushes her away, forming… Spirit Bits, and having them chase after her. Damn it! However, it isn’t Sachie that he’s actually focused on. He looks down to Zarid with curiosity. “You though…” Nox helps free Ledgic from the binding technique. He then asks a… very odd question. “Boy. Are you a god?”

You blink. “Wait what?”

Piccolo actually lets out a quick grunt of surprise, though he also seems to finally connect the dots himself. “So that’s what he’s been doing.”

Sala seems annoyed. “Oi, mind explaining for the rest of the class, Big Green? The hell’s that bloke talkin’ about?”

“Trip had mentioned him talking with her about such a matter. He may be apprenticing under his world’s Kami. Which means he’s trying to use Godly binding techniques.”

“Well, that kinda explains a lot…” Hado remarks. “But I hope that’s not the only trick he has up his sleeve.”

Zarid stands defiantly against Nox, though you notice there’s a slight bit of nervousness in his stance. Sachie is forced to back out of combat, and you notice her Ki drop significantly. Well, damn it. Sachie sits down, crossing her arms and trying to think as Zarid takes a fighting stance. Ledgic cracks his knuckles, ready to continue his fight with Zarid, but Nox holds his hand out. “Wait. I’d like to see what else the godling is capable of. I had figured the girl and her demon partner would be the real challenge, but it looks like I had misunderstood this boy.”

“Very well. But I still want a piece of him, especially after that stunt he just pulled. Save some for me.”

Ledgic floats out of combat, and Nox touches down on the ground. “Come now, godling! Let me see what you are capable of!”

Zarid closes his eyes and exhales. “Okay.” His aura… starts to spark up. “RAIO-KEN!” He blitzes around the ring, trying to get in quick hits against Nox. The Majin is amused, able to block Zarid’s attacks. You keep cheering for him, while also noticing Sachie is trying to cook some more ramen for herself. Is he just trying to distract Nox long enough for her to recover?

>A. …Hey. Real quick, Piccolo. Do you think Nox is capable of mimicking that God Bind thing Zarid pulled off?
>B. Kinda want to give them advice… is there anything you can tell Sachie or Zarid that might put them at an advantage?
>C. Trust in them that they’ll do their best. Don’t stress over this, and try to enjoy the match

As you use Multi-Form to grab some popcorn and a drink, you ask Piccolo, “Ssssso… quick question, you think Nox can copy Zarid’s… ‘God Bind’ technique thing?”

He thinks for a moment, then shakes his head. “No. While a Majin, I don’t think he has the same kind of Ki that Zarid is using.”

“It is why he is so thrilled for this kind of fight.” Mugen declares with a smug voice, approaching you all. “He will grow stronger in learning how to handle something he cannot copy. A battle that truly tests him.”

https://youtu.be/DSfxNPX5VaY

You give him a side-eye, but return focus to the fight, your copy handing you popcorn and water. Just gotta put your trust in them. As Zarid continues to attack, you notice that his power’s actually steadily increasing. Nox is amused by this, even allowing a couple of the hits to land… to little to no effect. He crosses his arms and his body starts to spark with energy… ah crap, that’s Maple’s electric barrier. Completely confident in his power, he lets it out and baits Zarid into one more attack. Zarid seems to do just that… but instead of striking him, he seems to somehow manipulate the Lightning Magic that he’s letting out, “grabbing” it in a way that allows him to gather it around his hands and mixing it with his own Ki, pumping in as much as he can.

Zarid smirks. “RAGING…!” He then slams his hands on the ground, letting out all this charged up energy. “STOOOOORM!” Nox wasn’t quite expecting a trick like that, and as energy erupts underneath him, he’s launched high into the air! “SACHIE, NOW!”

“HRRRAAAAAHH!” she roars out as she taps into Udon’s power once more, leaping upward at the same time as Zarid. “THIS IS OUR POWER…!” she begins, getting up above Nox.

“GOD AND DEMON…!” Zarid continues, his aura surging around him.

“FULL POWER KIIIIIIICK!” they yell in unison, kicking Nox in the gut and rocketing back down to Earth! But… they’re not aiming for the ring! They’re going for ring-out!

Nox realizes this too, and places two fingers on his forehead. Ledgic then jumps into the ring, and Nox teleports right above him with Sachie and Zarid. Ledgic gets out of the way at the last minute, but Nox still is kicked into the floor, cratering it and shaking the entire area. And… that actually did some real damage to Nox! You pump your fist in the air, cheering.

…But sadly that doesn’t last long. That took a LOT out of the two, and while Sachie still has some strength left, Zarid’s tapped out. And Ledgic doesn’t give them a chance to get a second wind, clotheslining the two to knock them down, then grappling Zarid and throwing him upward. Sachie tries to distract him, but Ledgic avoids her entirely and goes back to catch Zarid, swinging him around and slamming him back down.

Nox finally gets up out of the crater, dusting himself off. “You’ve impressed me, godling. You came close to defeating me, in spite of the difference in our power.” He simply walks out of combat, letting Ledgic continue to fight the pair. Sachie notices him, and attempts to keep him in the ring. First by hiding her Ki and using Multi-form to try to sneak up on him while another attempts to get Zarid free from Ledgic’s grip. Nox though leaps out of the way the moment she thinks she’s got him, sending an Explosive Wave out that knocks her back to Ledgic.

After using Zarid himself as a bludgeon to try and knock Sachie around, Ledgic finally throws him to the ground and engages her himself. Even with her power increase… it’s not enough. Moreover, Ledgic keeps her from trying to help Zarid, yet also from getting out of combat herself. Eventually her boost in strength fades, and even more, she runs out of steam and can’t hold on to Udon’s power any longer. A flick on the head to knock her down, and…

“Sachie and Zarid have been in the ring too long! Ledgic and Nox advance to this day’s final round!”

So that’s it. They got closer than most really would have expected them to, but it looks like you and Pantea will have to be the ones to win the day. Peppa places a hand on your shoulder. “Hey, cous? Good luck out there, and I hope to see you in the final round.”

You smile at her and nod. “Thanks, Peppa. Pantea and I will be aiming for that.” You and your partner fist bump for good measure. You can win this. You WILL win this!

All right folks, that's all for this thread! Thank you all so, so much for sticking around for so long. I’m sorry these last few sessions have been kinda light, things have cropped up a few times more than I would have liked. Did y’all have fun? Any things y’all want to bring up, bits of commentary or criticism? We should be wrapping the tournament up next session, which I plan for around July 15th, provided nothing comes up. Hope to see y’all then!
