Last time you didn’t really do much. You’re on the date with Chio you prepared yourself for with the help of the original tomato pair, and it’s going pretty pleasantly, except for one tiny little detail…

You’re blind! Someone stole your glasses and you don’t know who!

Everything has turned blurry, then blobby, then back to blurry! Was it the strong emotion of despair that turned your surroundings into such blood-curdling creatures for a moment? Or did something trigger inside the deepest catacombs of your mind that these images of terror rise up from the depths of the void? A glimpse of the unnerving trauma that subconsciously keeps following you to this day?

Or is it just your idiot brain trying to make sense of these indistinct visuals and you not liking the result?

Whatever the answer might be, it doesn’t matter! You can’t continue having a good time in these conditions! You need to find your glasses or else you’re doomed!

Doomed!

The red blur you assume is Chio hasn’t said a word since you lost your vision. Philonune continues to act apologetic, but tells you he might be able to find a way to circumvent your issues if you choose to.

You must weigh your options.

What do you do?

>Pretend nothing is wrong and continue this blurry date. This idea has a glaring issue, but you can make it work.
>Ask Chio if she saw the petty criminal who did the deed and request her help to find whoever it is! This date will turn into something else entirely, but a good time will be had, damn it!
>Excuse yourself for a second and let yourself be guided by Philonune to find the evildoer. You can salvage this romantic date if you manage to find the criminal on your own fast enough. The keyword being fast.
>Complain to the Staff that your glasses were stolen! This will totally ruin the mood but you’ll get your glasses back!

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical! There are no Critical Failures anymore!

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“Chio, my glasses!” You don’t pretend to be too cool for your frame and ask for help! It’s better to rely on others in situations like this instead of pretending everything is fine! “My glasses are gone!”

“Y-Yes, I noticed.” Chio coyly responds. Why does she sound embarrassed? “You look rather dashing without them. Unlike with that insalubrious paper bag…” You don’t think the paper bag deserves this slander.

Which reminds you, in case you need anything, you’re carrying all the tiny items from previous days! Including your paper bag.

“Someone took them away. I can’t see anything without them!” You don’t think Chio is taking this seriously. Maybe you need to make her care more! “I can’t see your beauty!”

“We’ll fix this situation immediately.” Chio gets all determined all of a sudden.

“Did you see who did it?” You know Chio has been staring at you the whole time!

“If my memory serves me well, it was one of the waiters. One started refilling your drink without warning, and then they were gone. I-I was a little too discombobulated to notice who exactly did it.” Chio acts like she’s some kind of witness in one of those detective dramas that Nariko loves.

“Why?”

“No real reason...” Blurry Chio turns a little redder, you think. “This surely dampens our meal. Let’s solve this promptly.” She’s upset about what this is doing to your date.

Chio is sure that one of the waiters is the culprit. It’s the only clue you have…

Change character perspective?

(Meanwhile, with Chio in the exact place Johnny is…) (Disclaimer: You’ll still decide for Johnny in some prompts.)

You move your chair closer to Phil’s and grab his hand. This is the only way you can keep his company around.

“Come with me, we’re going to complain to the staff.” You won’t let these incompetent fools ruin this rather enjoyable evening. Impressing someone from the future is already a hefty task and now the whole evening will be besmirched if you don’t rectify this immediately. It’s all your fault for picking this place. “It’s absolutely unacceptable that this happened to you.”

“Can we be a little more discreet? No need to cause a fuss” Phil is quite shy. How charming! But he can be confident by your side. You’re reliable and you’ll show him.

“Trust me, Phil.” You stand up, still holding his hand between your fingers, he’s surprisingly soft.

“Sure, Chio, I’m in your hands.” Phil follows your lead. Simply adorable! You will show him his trust is justified.

You two inform the waiter behind the reception desk about what just happened and demand swift actions. This is simply humiliating! Intimidated by your confidence, he meekly goes to the back to bring the manager out, which in turn makes you repeat your rage-inducing tale – not without Phil softening your complaints. After so much insistence, the boss decides to bring you two to the back of the restaurant (in front of the kitchen) and points at the 3 waiters working. 3? They’re understaffed too? If the food wasn’t delicious, you wouldn’t step foot here again!

“Well, Chio, there they are. Can’t stop business from going, so we’ll call one atta time. Ya understand, don’t ya?” The Manager is acting all sleazy but he’s trying to comply as much as he can to your demands. This will suffice.

“I’m rather disappointed, but yes, I do.” You assume control of the situation.

“No more complaining for someone who couldn’t catch a glimpse, okay? I’d say pick your poison but what do I know? I’m no policeman.” This snotty-nosed manager shrugs like it’s not his problem. Despicable.

“You know I was a detective once.” Poor Phil, he tried to adjust his glasses but they weren’t there! It breaks your heart!

“You got duped by a CotF, kid. Don’t think highly of yerself.” The manager chuckles like an obtuse idiot. “Months without a hitch or a hook, then you bring one of ‘em cheapos, and bam, trouble.”

“If you managed this place better, you wouldn’t have to rely on them, would you?” Phil retorts, annoyed by the manager’s comments.

“Smartass.” The manager actually chuckles and not sarcastically.

Among the suspects, you recognize 2 of them, one of them is a student of yours – he has a big frame for his age and he’s disciplined enough to not raise your suspicion, you don’t recall his name at the moment. The other is Charlotte, your former classmate from school, she used to be part of the Track and Field team with Cookie – she was an outstanding individual who would never resort to petty thieving, always honest and trustworthy. You don’t believe she’s the culprit! Though, she had a playful streak…

With that in mind, there’s only one person left to assess…

“Call the waitress with black hair.” You don’t know this mischievous woman, but you can tell by her aura that she’s a malignant individual. The same vibe Phil gave you when you met and he inappropriately touched you without your consent.

“A sec, Chio.” The manager starts walking over to where his waitress is. “Before I go, don’t talk to the chef.”

“Why?” Phil wonders out loud. He’s always asking questions. Curiosity is a good trait.

“Figure it out for yerself, Mr. Detective.” The Manager rolls his eyes with contempt only your fellow teachers display. A man too self-centered to be of use to anyone, no wonder these beggars depend so much on the CotF. An entitled and useless man.

“But I’m blind.” Phil must think the manager is mentally challenged! You’ve worked so hard to change his perception of the people of the past but between this man and Cookie, you know this doesn’t reflect well on you. Ignoring that orphanage that did multiple atrocities. But Phil must understand that no matter the time there’s always evil in men.

“Smartass…” The manager repeats himself as he walks away with a soft chuckle escaping his obese and inappropriate lips.

“Why did he say that? That has nothing to do with what I was saying.” Phil is rightfully confused.

“Leave it be. He’s not a bright man, Phil.” You show Phil it’s best to be the better woman. He must be impressed.

EHEM.” Someone coughs inside the kitchen. How unsanitary.

You stare darts at Phil to stop him from responding. Like the intelligent man he is, Phil doesn’t say a peep. How wonderfully obedient, as you thought, you can improve him even more.

“You know, you don’t have to hold me that tight.” Phil tries to scratch his cheek but misses. You have made a terrible mistake! It was your grip that left him silent, not your stare! He can’t see you! Oh, what an error. How can you pretend to guide him when you’re blind yourself? You thought you left these challenges in the past with all the experience you had with your sisters, but like most of your teachers say, you were wrong! Wrong!

“Apologies, but we were forbidden from talking to him.” You, again, show you’re the better woman and apologize!

“Don’t worry, I got it.” Phil smiles at the stove right next to you.

The manager and the waitress appear uninvited.

“Oh! I was a sea of worries! But there you are!” The waitress acts like she’s glad to see you two. Hmph, she has acting chops, but she’s not at Grace’s level.

“Hey, that’s the waitress that asked for our order.” Phil recognizes the voice. He’s so attentive! Attention to detail only great artists such as yourself have! A-Also, you didn’t forget she was your waitress! You decided not to remember!

“Yes…” You didn’t forget, you just decided not to remember! And how perfectly suspicious! You’re onto something! It’s natural with the many times you have caught onto your sisters’ misdeeds! Cookie and Wilma always have something under their sleeves. And Mirjam… It’s just… Ugh.

“I thought you might have dined and dashed, hehe.” The waitress is calming down excessively and tries to act friendly. So utterly fake it’s laughable.

“Are you trying to imply something?” A petty thief like her calling you a criminal?! Preposterous and churlish!

N-No…!” Cowering in fear like Mirjam isn’t going to help you, Ms. Waitress. This investigation has just started.

What do you do? (Chio)

>Demand immediately for her to be inspected! She stole your date’s glasses!

“You just need to answer a couple of questions, Kasandra.” The lazy Manager does a pitiful job explaining what’s going on.

“Very well understood, Mr. Dustin.” The shifty waitress knows her place now!

“I’ll begin.” Phil takes control! Why!? Does he not trust you?! “Why can’t we talk to the cook?”

“BECAUSE I’M FRICKING BUSY OVER HERE!” The chef shouts from his position.

“You’ve done it, smartass. The chef gets easily distracted.” Dustin the manager rolls his eyes again. Phil needs to know when to keep quiet sometimes. Even though his nosiness is why Wilma is safe now…

“Sorry.” Phil shrugs. He didn’t think he would cause trouble just by asking.

“W-What does this have to do with me…?” The waitress is already trying to escape. And you don’t like the way she’s staring at Phil! Is she planning on stealing something else?! Perhaps his tie?! You’ll protect his tie at any cost.

“Pay no mind to what Phil said. You’re here to answer to me!” You have an idea! Since you already know Charlotte’s character very well from your school days. Pretending to badmouth her will show the waitress’s true side if she decides to join you! What a brilliant idea! “Give me your honest opinion: Do you believe your co-worker Charlotte is capable of stealing something?”

“A-Absolutely!” Waitress nods without even a millisecond of hesitation. What a snake! “I think she took my only wristwatch but I have no way to prove it…”

“YEAH! SHE STOLE MY FAVORITE PUTTYYYYY KNIFE!” Nobody asked the chef for an answer but he gave one anyway.

“Hmm?” The Manager finds this a tiny bit upsetting. “So I wasn’t imagining things… she might have taken the wristbands my son gave me.”

A-Ah…?” You don’t know what they are talking about! This tide change is unexpected to say the least! Charlotte?! A petty thief?!

“Are they talking about Crossbill?” Phil mutters to himself, then he drags you closer to him, you can smell his cologne… “Ehem, what does she look like, Chio?”

You describe Charlotte’s appearance to Phil!

“Yeah, I think she’s the one.” Phil whispers! No doubts on his face! W-What in the world is going on?!

“Ah? AH? AH?!” You cannot help but act in utter disbelief!

Charlotte?! A criminal!? This cannot be!

What do you do?! (Chio)

You don’t need to be stubborn about this, the priority here is to salvage this date before it’s too late. The evidence is damning enough for you to request an audience with your former classmate, unbelievable as it may be.

“That’s all I need from you. Please, bring your coworker Charlotte here.” You regain your composure beautifully like you never had any doubts in your mind.

“Huh…?” The untrustworthy waitress isn’t sure if she should follow your clear orders.

“You heard the lass, Kassandra.” The Manager is happy letting other people do his work. The waitress nods and walks away. “Is there a reason ya know Charlotte’s name? I know you’re a regular and all, but still.”

“She left an impression.” You pretend there’s no story between you two just in case it can be misinterpreted. The manager is satisfied with your answer.

Psst, Chio.” Phil drags you closer once again to whisper. “Can we do this privately? Talking with Charlotte, I mean. I don’t want anyone to lose their job tonight…”

“But if your hunch is correct...” Which you vehemently don’t think so. “She deserves to be punished.”

“Please, Chio.” Phil is trying to use those puppy eyes of his to get what he wants! Did Wilma teach him that technique?! It doesn’t work when he doesn’t stare at you!

“Fine.” You believe Phil is too compassionate. “Can we talk to her privately?” You ask the goof of a boss here.

“…Suuure.” The manager is looking at you two with suspicion. “Can’t waste more of my time. Go to the back alley through the kitchen now. I’ll send her in a moment.”

“Thanks!” Phil is happy that the manager is being cooperative. You believe this is the bare minimum and not even. He doesn’t care one bit.

You’re at the back alley behind the restaurant, it’s dark except for a flickering light, like the hospital nearby. The sound of the crickets raises and engulfs the area to your annoyance. There are garbage bins nearby but the smell doesn’t get to where you are. What a repulsive area...

“Were you asking for me, you lovebirds?” There’s a cheeky smile on Charlotte’s face as she closes the door behind her. It was about time she arrived…

You don’t like the way she’s looking at Phil. Though, being fair, it’s night and day compared to the waitress’. Charlotte has ulterior motives!

(Meanwhile, back to >You)

You can’t believe Crossbill was responsible for this! You thought you’d see her tomorrow or something! Totally unexpected!

“L-Lovebirds? What kind of nonsense are you spouting, Charlotte?!” Chio doesn’t like the label Crossbill has for you two. “Do we look like…?” Her handgrip gets tighter… The red shine of herself rivals Wilma's! No! They might even tie in intensity! Well, you can’t tell without your glasses. “No! I won’t be mocked by the likes of you!”

“Who are you trying to trick…?” Crossbill sounds more confused than cheeky. She really doesn’t understand why Chio is so strongly denying this. “You’re holding hands, Chio!”

“T-Tricking people? I’m merely preventing misinformation from spreading! Your speculations are unnecessary and unwelcomed. Without his glasses, Phil is blind as a bat! And I’m just guiding him around for his own safety.” Chio gets closer, you can feel the warmth of her arm next to yours.

“Ohohoho, I wonder what happened…” Crossbill is a terrible actress, or she’s just downright mocking you. Did she want to get caught? “Not as confident as ever, but I’m glad to see you doing well, Chio Edamura!”

“…L-Likewise, Charlotte.” Chio is trying to salvage the situation in her own mind. But there’s nothing to salvage here, she’s being adorable! “But I’m less than pleased about the things I have heard of you here… Are the rumors true?”

You thought it was possible these two knew each other after hearing what Wilma told you. But, Chio doesn’t know what kind of person Crossbill is? How? Is this really coming as a surprise to her?!

“I’m not entirely sure what you mean, my uptight butthead.” Crossbill is already playing dumb! You can tell Chio feels immensely offended by that comment.

“Before we begin, Crossbill. I have something for you.” You reach into your pocket for a key item!

“For me…? Your date is right next to you! Why are you giving me something?” Crossbill sounds perplexed as you extend your present. “Hey, Knockout, you’re looking the wrong way.”

“…Can you just take it from my hands?” You plead.

“A piece of paper? Can you explain your—” Charlotte dives into the paper in pure disbelief…!

“Well?” You act a little smug since you deserve it.

“I-It’s real…” Crossbill can’t believe her nose! “Aaaah!” Crossbill starts chirping full of joy, skipping in place! She’s too happy!

“Give me that.” Chio snaps the autograph from Crossbill’s hands. “Hmph, it’s good penmanship.”

CAREFUL!” For the first time in her life, Crossbill knows what it feels when someone takes something important from her…

“I’m an artist, I know how to be delicate!” Chio scoffs at Crossbill as she hands the paper back over. The bird thief grabs the piece of paper like guarding her newborn. You think. You’re interpreting the mysterious blurs that haunt you.

“…Can I have a lil’ chat with him for a minute?” Crossbill is asking Chio for permission.

Chio gets closer to you, she doesn’t want to give you up!

What do you do?

>Politely ask for permission to talk to Crossbill.

“Ask and you shall receive!” The boisterous bird acts like she’s a magician to pull out your glasses out of thin air! You can feel a lousy trick even if you can’t see it. She puts them back on your stupid face herself. “There we go! Much better now, right, Phillip?”

“My name is not Phillip.” You frown. What’s up with people adding letters to names?! It’s Phil! Short and sweet! Nothing more. Nothing less. “And yes, it’s much better now.”

Tch…” Now that Chio is composed she looks annoyed. You thought she’d be happy that your glasses are back, but by the looks of it, she wants them destroyed! What’s up with that?! “I do not believe it. Charlotte, you actually stole it?”

“Much has changed since the last time we met.” Charlotte stares at the distance.

You’re a pathetic, pitiful and lousy criminal. Don’t act like you’re a big shot.” Chio shuts down whatever character Crossbill is trying to project.

“O-Oi, you don’t have to be so harsh…!” Crossbill can’t handle Chio’s bluntness! Being fair, not many can. In fact, she must’ve been in good humor because she wasn’t as poignant as other times. “But that’s a chat for another time. Phil, follow me!” Charlotte skips away a few feet from where you are standing. You won’t have much privacy there.

“Sorry, Chio, it won’t take long.” You apologize because you really didn’t ask Chio for her consent.

“Just make it quick.” Chio is visibly annoyed. Your mom always says to never make a lady wait. Or a gentleman. Then she’d spent 4 hours doing side quests in games. Your mom was a complicated individual.

You walk next to Crossbill. She turns you around and puts her arm around your neck, giving your backs to Chio.

“You met him, didn’t you? The one and only? That’s how you got it, riiiight? Why didn’t you invite me? Can I meet him still? Tell me I can meet him still!” Crossbill is talking really fast like an excited fangirl.

How do you respond?

>“I’m glad you liked your gift, Crossbill! One favor for another!” You can’t believe how happy she is!
>“Maybe? He seemed interested in meeting you, he heard a thing or two about your heists. I’ll see if I get the chance again.” You may give her some hope. Houda is a nice guy in that sense.
>“Sorry, Houda is a mysterious guy and it was pure chance I met him. He was nice enough to give me that, but I don’t think I can do more than that.” You don’t want to disturb the master thief without his permission.
>“Calm down, Crossbill. You’re not acting like yourself.” You feel like she’s getting way too excited…

“Maybe? He seemed interested in meeting you, he heard a thing or two about your heists. I’ll see if I get the chance again.” You decide to give Crossbill some hope of meeting her idol. Besides, her idol loves his fans. “It’s my way of returning the favor for the password.”

“You mean it, Knockout?” Crossbill can’t hide her joy but she doesn’t want to go rampage until you answer.

“Why would I lie to you?” You raise an eyebrow. “Just don’t take it for granted, the guy is pretty slippery.” It’s his entire gimmick too…

“….!!!!!” Crossbill covers her face with both hands and excitedly tip taps in place! “I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! It wasn’t a dumb idea! Yes! Yes! YES!” Crossbill hugs you without thinking. “This is the best! Best! Best! Best!”

“I’m glad your efforts paid off.” Ignoring what those efforts were all about… You can feel Chio seething from where you are.

“I’d kiss you right now if I could! I’m so excited!!! Aaaaaaaaah!!!” Crossbill is losing her mind. You shake your head, you’re on a date right now! “This is the nicest thing someone has ever done for me! Woooo!” That’s kind of sad. “We’re besties now!”

Ah?” You’re what…?

“Trust me! Ewan is a distant second right now!” Crossbill grabs you by the neck and extends her hand up in the air.

“I mean, he’s far away from here.” You don’t think his place is nearby.

“N-Not like that, moron.” Crossbill won’t tolerate you acting stupid even as her best friend. “Chio! My dreams are coming true! Isn’t that awesome?!” The happy bird turns around to announce with a smile from ear to ear.

“That’s great. Now stop touching him.” Chio wants her to stop touching you.

“Mmm? Afraid I’m gonna steal him from you?” Charlotte puts her arm around your shoulder to drag you along towards the oldest tomato.

“Afraid you’re going to steal his wallet...” Chio doesn’t trust Charlotte anymore. She puts herself in the way to make space between you two. “Our food must be cold by now. Let’s get the bill and leave.”

The door to the restaurant opens…

“That won’t be necessary.” That’s the neckless Manager Dubby or something! “I see what kind of trick you smartasses were trying to pull. And you’re not welcome anymore.”

“E-Excuse me?!” Chio is getting angrier.

“Leaving on your own to the back? Former classmates? Calling other best friends? Smartass number 1 finding his glasses? It smells fishy in here.” Did the Manager forget what kind of food he serves here…? Anyway, was he spying on you?! “I’m not slow, you’re trying to get a free meal at my expense again. But nuh-uh, it’ll be just this once. Charlotte, you’re fired for being in cahoots with these two and stealing from the other employees. And you three are banned from stepping into this restaurant ever again. Now leave before I call the police.”

“AH?!” Crossbill looks like she was shot by a sniper rifle.

“Wait. You’re getting this wrong.” Kinda, well, at least you weren't planning on getting a free meal.

“Y-You’re accusing us of what, you fat incompetent slob?!” Chio sounds really offended.

“Too late to argue yer case, outta here!” The Manager slams the door shut without leaving you a window to argue back.

The date is ruined…

What do you do?

>Apologize to Chio. You didn’t think things would go this way.
>Ask Crossbill if she’s going to be okay without a job.
>The night is not over yet! Go, uh, to the… fishing pond? There are a lot of ponds around! Kobashi said so himself. Maybe it’s a good dating destination!
>This is a massive misunderstanding! Go back inside and talk this out!
>This place left 3 pretty petty people with a grudge. Maybe, the best dish that this restaurant will ever see is your revenge! Elaborate an unnecessary plan to get back at them!

“AAAaaaah!!!” Crossbill takes her apron and drops it on the ground. “W-Why does this keep happening?!”

“I-I’ve never been banned from a restaurant before! This is upsetting and uncalled for!” Chio is raging too! “That fat disgusting pig has no right to treat us like this! I’m a regular!!! I want to talk to the manager!”

“He is the manager!” Crossbill reminds her who the fat guy was.

“Then the owner!” Chio has a plan and she’s going to stick with it.

“The owner is not around anymore. I think he got sick?” Charlotte gives some context despite not having all the details.

“Then I’m gonna go back in there and talk to him anyway!” Chio really can’t deviate from her original idea.

"Everyone, calm down.” You try to be the voice of reason. But what reason does this voice have? Do you seek petty rrrevenge or to be the better man? Uhm, if only Angel Johnny and Devil Johnny were still alive… Ehm, since everyone is already upset, why not be too? “Let cooler minds prevail...”

“Y-You’re right, Phil.” Chio regains her composure, she can’t believe she was this childish.

“…Because we need to come up with a good plan for our vengeance.” You pump your fist. This restaurant will have the best dish they’ll ever see: Your revenge!

“Yes, bestie. That’s exactly what I want to hear!” Crossbill is all on board.

“This place will rue the day they decided to defy me.” Chio grabs your arm and acts like a cartoon villainess.

But, huh, what’s the plan…?

What do you do?

>Throw some rocks at them. Low-quality vandalism for the win!

“Now as for revenge, I have an idea!” You put your fingers together.

You explain to the revenge-seeking team your idea to establish your own food cart outside this awful restaurant with the same menu they have! You’ll defeat them at their own game! It’s all craftily devilish!

“…We’re going to ruin them! Ruin them!” You pump your fist with determination to bring this symbol of the local community down in flames!

“I don’t believe that a long-term plan is appropriate. But I’m proud you can think this much ahead! Shows how levelheaded you can be.” Probably the nicest way Chio could’ve worded that. Maybe she’s actually impressed. “Besides, we don’t have the money to afford all of that.”

“You don’t need money to get all the things you want.” Crossbill smirks. “I have a food cart. You might’ve seen it, Bestie.” The petty thief winks.

“We can’t use a stolen one.” If the real owner finds out, you’ll be in trouble.

“It’s not. Its owner gave it to me when he quit! He was too old to keep going. I needed to store some stuff that wasn’t stolen so Ewan wouldn’t be suspicious about my hauls.” Crossbill believes it’s no issue! “Makes fried food, so it’ll be shining perfect, riiight?”

“Yeah, it will! So, are you on board with this plan?” You want to make sure you have their backup.

“Eeeh…” Crossbill shrugs, she’s not sure at all! “A swift hit will be more satisfying.”

“Agreed.” Chio doesn’t think investing your life here for fast food is the key to revenge either.

“Satisfying? Really? You’re thinking too small!” You look so utterly disappointed! Crossbill’s bird brain is showing! And Chio’s lack of confidence too! “It explains so much about you two though…”

“HUH?!” Chio can’t believe you would dare look down on her.

“W-Woah, woah, there! What are you insinuating?!” Crossbill is someone who needs to be challenged to do better. “I’m all about the big hits, hotshot!”

“Then why are you so scared?” You raise an eyebrow to provoke her.

“Scared?! Wow. Woooow. You’re going too far, you know that? Fine, I’ll do it! We’ll make this the best food cart this town has ever seen!” Crossbill has lost sight of what she thought she wanted, but now she knows what she really wants!

“Yes! We’ll crush them beneath us!” Chio is angered too! “B-Besides, I wouldn’t mind tasting your average food again, Phil…”

“Your mouth is watering.” You point out.

“W-Wrong!” Chio turns around to hide her face.

“I have the menu here, figure the ingredients out.” Charlotte hands it over. “And figure out where to get them from.”

“Let’s make a trip to the fishing pond! Even though it’s late, there are some enthusiasts working at these hours so we can buy some ingredients.” Chio nods to herself.

You think there’s a better way to do this…

“I have a better idea, I just need a phone.” You extend your hand in case they have one.

“There’s a booth over there near the public bath.” Crossbill points behind you and throws you a couple of coins. You still have Kobashi’s money, but maybe this phone booth doesn’t accept bills.

“T-Thanks.” You almost didn’t catch the money since you weren’t expecting it. Right, you forgot that cellphones are not common in the past.

“What’s your idea?” Chio never heard an explanation.

“I know someone who can help. I’ll ask a favor and order the ingredients.” You clarify.

“I’ll go get the cart in that case. Until then…!” Crossbill disappears through the night like a goofy ninja.

“Bye, Crossbill.” You wave at the darkness that consumed your bestie.

“I suppose I’m going to take a quick trip home. These clothes are not appropriate for cooking. I’ll get you an apron and some cookware too. I’ll be back in a couple of minutes.” Chio raises her hand for a random taxi to take her away.

“I’ll wait here then! Take care!” You hope it doesn’t take much time for them to come back! At least not too long after you make the call.

“Y-Yes, you too as well.” Chio boards the vehicle, and it drives off.

You reach down into your pocket and realize you left your jacket inside the restaurant. Thankfully everything you need and have is in the vest and pants. Among that stuff is Annette’s number. She seemed nice enough when you talked to her during your tiny adventures at the shopping district, and more importantly, she was willing to get your groceries! You awkwardly dial her number using the phone booth, the chilly air of the countryside makes this lonelier than it needs to be, even if people are walking around…

The nice mother heeds your call. You ask for the list of ingredients you assume you’ll need to cook this kind of crap, even adding some spices and seasonings you feel like you’re going to need to salvage it. Before you could even discuss payment, Annette gets her right on the job and hangs up! But not without warning you it’s going to be difficult to find everything due to the time of day! She knows where you are at least, so it’s a waiting game now.

Somehow, Annette arrives first on a bicycle, carrying your stuff in heavy plastic bags on the back!

“There you’re, Phi—…!” Annette freezes upon seeing you. Probably misses your stupidly long hoodie and this outfit is not her type.

“A-Annette, are you all right…?” You had to approach because the bike was about to drop sideways.

I’m more than fine…” Annette swoons.

“A-Are you? You look like you have a fever.” You put your hand on her forehead.

“I-I’m good! I’m good! See?” Annette puts her hands on top of yours, and carefully caresses it. “Uff, I didn’t expect you to call me this late! It’s like, wow! My mind started racing like an engine! Like takataka, choo choo! Totally getting the wrong idea. But I should’ve known it was about groceries! Silly me! Why else would a stallion like you would call me during the middle of the night? I mean it doesn’t have to be the wrong idea, right? Right! But yeah, here’s what you want! And maybe more!” Annette hands you all the plastic bags.

“More?” You raise an eyebrow.

“You know! More! Like, you know! More! More as in extra!” Annette is getting embarrassed but keeps acting excited.

How do you respond?

>“Annette, calm down.” Grab her hands to ease whatever worries she has!
>“Annette, I don’t have a way to pay except for what I have here… Do you mind if we owe you the rest for a day or two?” Hand Kobashi’s money to Annette. You didn’t get to pay for the restaurant meal, so it’ll become the first payment to its destruction!
>“Annette, you didn’t hear me on the phone, but I need to come clean: I don’t have any money right now. But I’ll be working on a Food Cart here! I know I’m asking for a lot, but I’d like to pay for this by making you one of the biggest shareholders of it! Think of this as an investment!” You’ll gain so much profit to pay her with!

You take a moment to put the bags Annette just handed over in a safe spot.

“Annette, calm down.” You grab her hands to ease whatever worries she has! Her acting anxious must be for some reason.

“Y-Your hands are so warm! Err, I’m as calm as a breeze! Not nervous. Nope. Not even one bit. I’m ready to give you everything you need. I-If you want it that is.” Annette is spouting the first thing that comes to her mind! “It’s all up to you… I’ll make you really happy.”

“I know me looking sloppy without the jacket must be quite shocking, so you don’t need to pretend to be excited.” You realize Annette must be thinking you’re one step away from looking like a homeless man, so she must be feeling intimidated! “Thanks for bringing the ingredients, I’ll pay you back as soon as I finish.”

Aaah…?” Annette is overwhelmed and the words don’t come out properly. It must be too nerve-wracking to react to being read like an open book! “I-I didn’t mean to—” Her panic is palpable.

“It’s fine, I get it! Here’s at least something to pay it forward to start.” You hand Kobashi’s money to Annette! “I know you want to leave as soon as you can, so I won’t be keeping you here any longer. But again, thank you for everything, Annette. You’re awesome!”

Ahgabah…” Annette feels like she screwed up massively. But when your Food Cart becomes successful, you’re going to change her mind! “I’ll be leaving then…” She starts wobbling away.

“A-Annette, your bike!” You use the bell!

Right…” Annette grabs the bike and starts walking away with it at her side…

You have to do your best to make this Food Cart work so Annette has a bright smile on her face next time!
