Last time, you escaped unscathed from the Orphanage of the Blue, stole a body, and learned everything about the origin of Houda Lan’s adventures, with all mind-blowing facts attached. You’re at the tail end of such revelations as he spoke about Ophelia’s link with the Price Family, their trustee to safeguard their crystal piece.

“Do we know any Prrrices?” Mirjam has never heard of them.

“Don’t be silly, of course we don’t.” Grace waves her hand in front of her tomato sibling.

“Never heard of them either.” Lt. van Zullekom copies Grace’s motion.

“You sure? Weren’t you, like, an important bodyguard or somethin’?” Grace has been paying attention to everything that has happened! What a contrast from school! You’re proud.

“Oh! Yes! But that doesn’t change my answer.” Vanessa tilts her head.

“Vanessa, sunshine, didn’t I urge you to find information on them?” Houda finds her pledge of ignorance difficult to believe.

“I meant before your instructions! I’m not that absentminded to forget what peccadillos I’ve been a part of!” The Goofy cop clarifies.

The silence is deafening. Everyone knows the Lieutenant is a massive scatterbrain. You have questions about her time as a bodyguard, so you might pry at some point.

“Clarify this for me: did you find what you were looking for?” Yareli is curious about the thief’s success.

“Phil can easily answer the question.” Houda is confident you’re going to say something cool.

How do you respond?

>“I don’t think he did.” Judging by his actions, you think he failed.
>“He’s a professional. What do you think?” Raise the eyebrow of cheekiness.
>“I don’t know?” You’re not going to pretend to know more than you do.
>Write In.

What do you do after?

>Ask Houda Lan if you can see the other crystal pieces.
>Ask Houda Lan what he’s planning on doing now.
>Ask Vanessa about her time as a bodyguard.
>Ask Yareli if you got the evidence you needed to take Ophelia and the Orphanage down.
>Well, go to the camper, things are done as far as you know for now.
>Write In.

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“I don’t know?” You raise the eyebrow of confidence meaning that you’re confident you have no idea.

“…Phil cannot easily answer the question.” Houda is not confident anymore about your speaking abilities. You’re too busy making sure Ophelia’s body is going nowhere next to you to think about witticisms.

“Then you answer the question.” Yareli wants a real response.

“Phil, you grabbed her pendant, didn’t you?” Houda had good reasons to leave the question to you. “Can you show it to our smiley friend?

“You mean this?” You take Ophelia’s collar off. She wasn’t concerned about losing it so you didn’t think it was important. Houda carefully examines it by putting it in the sunlight.

“…Perhaps I utterly failed, madam.” Houda looks dejected. “This one looks nothing like the others! A petty pebble not even worth a cent!”

“Eh!?” Lt. van Zullekom is utterly dismayed. Grace and Mirjam share a concerned look. Yareli is unaltered as always.

“Perhaps? Why the hesitation?” Yareli believes the thief’s confidence came from somewhere.

“I did find an inauspicious gemstone that looked similar to the others, but it lacked its renowned luster so I dismissed it.” Houda Lan starts looking around. “Hey lassies, do me a favor and hand me my bag, please.”

“No!” Mirjam smiles.

“What part of we hate you did you not understand?!” Grace smiles as well. These tomatoes are brutal.

We’rrrre kidding though!” Mirjam and Grace hand over the bag with all the evidence.

“Here it is!” Grace signals the delivery over.

“D-Don’t play with my heart like that, ladies.” Houda actually believed he was hated for a moment there. “Allow me a moment…” He scavenges through the insides...

“Yareli, do we have enough evidence now?” You ask as there’s some dead air to fill.

“I’m no lawyer, but I have no doubt in my mind that there’s more than enough to make these runts never see the light of day again.” Yareli gets a little emotional, so little you don’t see it.

“That is some wonderful news!” Vanessa gives a ton of little claps.

“Hooray! You hear that, old lady? You’re going to jail! And you’re never ever coming out!” Grace rubs victory in Ophelia’s face!

“Hehe! You’ll be in a tiny, tiny jail! Like our aparrrtment!” Mirjam will celebrate too!

“Here it is!” Houda brings out a Jewel of commendable size! Like 8 times bigger than the ones you used to hold that became a lame credit card! And yes, it does look like the Crystal that your piece must’ve come out of, it has the same symbol and everything. But it doesn’t look as polished… Kinda dark. Lifeless even. “See? What a pittance.”

“Oh! You’re completely right, Houda! This gem isn’t like the others, yet it’s so similar!” Vanessa can’t believe her eyes! She never does! “But why is that? What a conundrum!”

“I have no point of comparison.” Yareli doesn’t see an issue for obvious reasons.

Should you say something…?

Will you say something?

“You all are right. It isn’t supposed to be this dark.” You adhere to the feeling of uncertainty about if the crystal is the actual one or not. “Maybe it’s a fake.”

Houda Lan and Lieutenant van Zullekom both seem concerned about what you just said.

“Mr. Noon, how do you know…?” Vanessa tilts her head and acts a little distrusting.

“Nobody but those involved with the Lloydingtons and us two know about the Stones of Power and what they look like.” Houda Lan points out.

“You appear to be too much in the know for just a concerned ciivy. I don’t doubt your good intentions, no sir! But I’m having a hard time keeping the doubts to myself.” Vanessa sounds honest for once.

“As you can see, Vanessa vouched for you. My intention was to speak to you privately. But we’ve reached a point of no denial about your shadiness and curiosity has gotten the best of me like it always does. You’re much more than what meets the eyes, and I’d like to look beyond that.” Houda Lan raises an eyebrow. “Could you enlighten us?”

“Are you two trying to imply something bad about Phil?! How dare you!” Grace gets all mad about their questions! “He has always been a gentle studmuffin!”

“Yeah! The only two shady crrrriminals here are you two!” Mirjam will defend you as well!

“L-Lassies, he stole that woman from the orphanage. Take the hint!” Houda Lan tries to reason with them. “Reality is far more amusing than you believe!”

“He apprehended a criminal!” Mirjam points out that Ophelia isn’t a good soul.

“W-Wait, you’re saying Phil is even dreamier than he is?!” Grace can’t even fathom the possibility. Having this amount of expectations on you is not something you’re used to, but for them, you will do your best to deliver!

Enough, please.” Yareli cuts the conversation off. “I know him personally, and I firmly believe there’s no need for him to explain himself.” Yareli believes that divulging that you’re from the future is not a good idea. “I put my reputation at stake.”

“...” Vanessa pokes you! She wants the truth anyway even after what Yareli said! She’s a monster!

Well, you’re waiting for Kobashi to come back, so you have time to kill…

What do you do?

>Tell everyone you’re from the Future! Yes! You’re Future Johnny! Err… Future Phil!
>Tell Houda that you’re from the Future privately. You don’t want to antagonize him but you don’t think it’s a good idea that everyone knows.

The only rule so far (that you made on the spot) about telling people the truth is that you won’t reveal one hint of what the future entails. You’ll stick to that, now onto the reveal…

“Well, you see…” You turn invisible. As a joke.

“…” Grace, Mirjam, Houda, and Vanessa have an incredulous look on their faces. It’s hilarious.

“That’s pretty outstan—" Houda wanted to commend you for your trick but…

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!” Mirjam, Grace and Vanessa scream before he can finish!

Oh the sweet feeling of pulling a prank, it’s been a while since you used your powers for petty acts like this. You know Nina will never forget when she fell for it! Traumatizing people is the best way to be memorable after all.

“PHIL!! PHIL IS GONE!” Mirjam states the obvious as panic continues!

“NO! THIS CAN’T BE! THIS. CAN’T. BE. HAPPENING.” Grace hugs Mirjam as both tomatoes despair.

“HE WAS A G-GHOST!!!! GHOST!!!!! GHOOOSTS EXIST!” Lieutenant is not handling this any better either! She’s grabbing Houda by his scarf and shaking him!

“Yes! V-Vanessa, you already know that!” Houda reminds her that is the whole basis of his backstory.

Oh! I’m so out of focus I forgot that was already well-established!” Vanessa calms down for a second… then resumes shrieking. “THIS ACTUALLY CONFIRMS IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!

“Oh blimey, you never believed me…?” Houda is so hurt beyond belief, and the shaking is not at fault in the slightest. Aw, you feel bad for him.

“…” Yareli has been glaring at the spot where you disappeared from the beginning. She’s not enjoying the prank. Or maybe she is. You never know with her.

You reappear behind the tomatoes.

“…That was a joke. I’m not a ghost. I come from the future.” You tenderly smile.

“PHIIIIIL!” Grace and Mirjam both hug you without hesitation. “Wait, what did you say…?” They both realized you said something out of the ordinary.

“I come from the future.” You repeat.

T-T-The futurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre?!” Mirjam turns into a stutter machine gun!

“Oh, Mr. Noon comes from the future! What a relief! He isn’t a ghost! That, naturally, makes all the sense in the world and no further questions should be raised! A perfectly normal explanation that everyone here needed! Not a ghost!” An unhinged Vanessa walks over to you after she stops messing with Houda. She gently grabs your face. “Please explain how you can turn invisible then, Mr. Phil Ghost?!”

“Uuuh… Future technology?” You’ll go with Yareli’s explanation from that one time at the Flower Shop.

“Oh! That surely doesn’t make a lick of sense!” Vanessa is happy you’re not from the future for some reason.

“It does, Vanessa.” Yareli points out.

Oh, well then.” Vanessa takes a deep breath. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH….!!!!!

Vanessa faints in your arms… You place her next to Ophelia. Maybe she wasn’t ready for this.

“That was eons better than the time I told her about my plight.” Houda Lan gives a nervous chuckle.

Your joke was far too effective despite it actually being the truth. You’re from the future! Or a future. You need to temper down the girls’ volatile emotions before you inadvertently end up with a quartet of unconscious ladies.

“Please, everyone, calm down. I come here in peace!” You try to sound as diplomatic as you can! Yareli comes over to check on the goofy cop that just fainted.

“Yes, I can assure you that Phil is not dangerous nor has any nefarious intentions.” Surprisingly, Yareli is really bending backward to vouch for you.

“W-We know, Phil! That’s not in doubt, but…” Mirjam looks unsure of herself and turns to Grace.

“But please say you’re kidding!” Grace didn’t want you to come from another time!

“You girls don’t believe me…?” You know it’s a lot to take in, but you thought turning invisible would help them understand faster, despite how risky the strategy was.

“No! We actually do, Phil! Without a shadow of a doubt! I-It’s just that…” Mirjam looks to the side towards Grace again.

“If you come from the future, it means we have literally no chance with you!” Grace laments from the bottom of her heart. “What would a cool guy from the future want with any of us?! We’re so poor and boring already and the girls in the future must be all cool and interesting!”

Ah…?” You think Grace just confessed.

“W-What? T-T-T-That’s not what I was gettin’ at!” Mirjam gets all tomato red as she shakes her head in dismay.

“Oh no, I said the quiet part out loud.” Grace is petrified now. “Hold on, where were you going with this then, Mirjam?”

“I-I thought Phil will probably rrrreturn to his timeline soon and we won’t meet again!” Mirjam is one adorable girl. “I don’t want him to leave!”

“Oh, yeah, that’s, like, totally what I meant before.” Grace coughs. Oh, what a misunderstanding! You thought she meant something romantic!

“Hahaha, what a silly duo these two are!” Houda Lan has a good chuckle. “The cat is out of the bag, madam! No need to pretend otherwise!”

“What do you mean? When it comes to it, I’m gonna miss them a lot too.” You wonder what the Phantom Thief is talking about.

“Or perhaps it found a way to get back in…” Houda is appalled by your response. Grace gives a sigh of relief for some reason.

“I can’t say more anyway, but I’m here to help!” You raise your thumb to show confidence.

“Then you should think twice before pulling these pranks on them.” Yareli scolds you unenthusiastically.

“I don’t know, I think it was really funny, hehehe…” Grace gets all bubbly reminiscing about her recent terror.

“Dear, Vanessa’s reactions are always top-notch, a joy for the soul I might say.” Houda, too, enjoyed your cruel prank.

“H-How is she?” Mirjam is concerned about the dead goofy cop.

“She’s fine, she’s sleeping soundly.” Yareli feels cheated for acting worried when Vanessa is pleasantly dreaming next to Ophelia.

“Invisibility is quite the perk you have there, friend. No wonder I was unable to track you with ease earlier like with any other amateur out there. The future holds quite the frightening spectacle for us all.” Houda is interested in your junk.

“Speaking of the future, is there anything I might say to identify myself to you later in time?” You ask for a future alliance.

“The object you showed me should be enough. No matter the timeline, it holds a special place in my heart.” Houda Lan nods. Not exactly something you can use, this dog plushy is in your hands now, but what about later? Maybe you can take a picture of it… or a drawing!

“Nothing else?” You wanna make sure.

“I’m afraid not.” Houda shakes his head.

Someone is knocking on the door, it should be Kobashi.

What do you do?

“I’ll get the door.” Yareli starts walking over without a hitch. She knows she needs to delicately take on this situation, Kobashi is a hothead and with Houda here, he might do something stupid. You’ll have to vouch for the criminal in this instance just to smooth things out.

Your hunch was correct: Kobashi has arrived! The two of them talked for quite a bit, updating each other about all the happenings since they last exchanged words. Yareli went ahead and explained what is waiting for the brash cop (Houda), which was a bad move that made Kobashi rush into the room! You had to stop him and do some explaining yourself, and with the help of everyone conscious, Kobashi ended up calming down and acted all apologetically after. You and Yareli further re-explained everything to get everything cleared up.

You…” Okay, maybe Kobashi hasn’t calmed down all that much. He cannot help but glare at Houda Lan. You thought it wasn’t personal!

“Mate, quit it, I heard I’m your so-called archnemesis, but I don’t even know you!” Houda is naturally bothered by this.

“Yeah! Yeah! Take him down, Officer Kobashi!” Grace wants to see a fight!

“N-No, please no violence.” Mirjam likes these two too much to see them fight now.

“You’re lucky there are kids in here.” Kobashi won’t take his eyes off the thief.

“Settle down, Kobashi.” Yareli taps Kobashi’s head. “If Vanessa was awake, she would vouch for this criminal.”

Zzzzz…” Vanessa is still sleeping. You’re glad she doesn’t snore like Yareli. But even if that is the case, with Naiad’s help, that wouldn’t be a problem anymore!

“Yeah, Kobashi, you don’t have to care about Houda, but trust us, he’s not a bad guy!” You keep vouching for him but it does very little.

“I know, I know, I’m mostly kidding.” Kobashi’s chuckle comes to an abrupt halt. “He’s right. I don’t know him personally, and I can’t say I’m bothered about the items he has illegally acquired.”

“Our differences are merely superficial, Officer.” Houda tries to be nice despite the hostilities.

“I don’t know why I’m in such a bad mood. Everything went great at the station! It’s like a bad omen is looming over my shoulders…” Kobashi starts massaging one side of his neck. “Anyway, why in the world is she here?!” The hothead cop points at Ophelia’s body! Yup, that’s the elephant in the room! He didn’t pay any attention to what Yareli to–

Hold on a minute… There’s a spirit that loosely looks like the head of the orphanage right next to the actual Ophelia! She notices that you noticed and freezes in place! She must’ve followed Kobashi from the police station! Maybe! Who knows?!

This is trouble! Can you do anything to stop her?!

You mentally request Naiad to stop the spirit before it’s too late! With limited options due to her spaceship not being ready and being in a hurry, Naiad throws her patented magic dust against the spirit… making things worse! The spirit returns back to her body in one swoop, possibly faster than it would’ve done otherwise! Whoops..! Now Naiad feels terrible!

“Grab Ophelia now!” You shout an order. “Stop right there, you villainous witch!” You believe this follow up will wake up Vanessa! It’s the same stern tone you used to poke her.

“Huh?! W-What’s going on?” Mirjam didn’t expect you to go from 0 to 100 out of the blue.

“NO! I’M INNOCENT! You can’t prove anything again!” The goofy lieutenant wakes up like trying to escape a nightmare! Only to be welcomed by a flying body… “Uh-oh.”

I got it!” Kobashi leaps like a salmon and strikes like an ox! He throws himself onto the problem!

Ugh…” Ophelia is slowly opening her eyes unaware of the coming impact.

AAAAAAH!” The sudden mass flying scares the crap out of Vanessa! Kobashi successfully body slams the couple of sleeping women, and subsequently throws the couch onto its back! “GUH!

“I have her!” Kobashi triumphantly proclaims with the true evil witch’s body in his arms! Then he immediately pins her down!

“Excellent job, Kobashi.” Yareli can sound goofy too even if she’s all serious. She comes along to restrain Ophelia by forcefully grabbing her arms to handcuff her! Is this police brutality…?

“I’m glad we didn’t sit there.” Grace sounds like she’s joking, but she’s not.

“…I do not want to sour this beautiful act of justice, but mind explaining what just happened?” Houda is moving to a safe spot away from these cops.

“Ophelia’s spirit returned to her body!” You make things clear. “She’s going to wake up any moment now!”

“…” Ophelia doesn’t move a muscle. But any moment now and she’ll be all evil!

“Is she…? You sure you didn’t throw a wobbly for no reason?” Houda is not a doctor, but he has a problem with your diagnosis.

“I think she’s dead.” Grace claps her hand for a prayer.

“N-No, I think Officer Kobashi knocked her out.” Mirjam separates Grace’s hands from one another.

“D-Did I…?” Kobashi isn’t sure he used that much force. By his reaction, you can tell this happened before.

“Yes.” Yareli makes an educated guess. Is that an excellent job to Yareli…?

“I’m fine by the way! A tiny bit dizzy, that's all!” Vanessa raises her hand from the other side of the couch.

But is this right…?

You know these evil masterminds like the back of your hand, you lived with one for many years (Amelia), so you can tell for a fact that she's pretending to be unconscious! The oldest trick in the book to make a bigger brother feel bad for playing rough back. But first…

“I’m glad you’re okay, Vanessa!” You’re happy your rushed decision didn’t create that much collateral damage.

“Thank you for caring, ciivy!” Vanessa stands up like nothing happened, her disheveled hair says otherwise.

“Boys, bring Ophelia here.” You always wanted to say that. That’s also a signal for both Philonune and Naiad to look around in case that pesky spirit is hiding away somewhere.

“That’s my line!” Vanessa feels like one of the few joys of her life was taken away.

“Don’t call us boys, please.” Yareli doesn’t like you acting like you’re in charge.

“J-Just bring her over, pretty please. I need to check something.” You try to sound nicer.

“Right on.” Kobashi and Yareli grab Ophelia by the arms like a dirty criminal and drag her right in front of you. With her hands handcuffed, you wonder how you’re going to get your hoodie back later.

“I’m going to pull another trick out of my sleeve, chap, and I’ll ask what you’re thinking of doing right now instead of after the fact.” Houda wants to be all proactive like he usually is.

“You don’t believe she’s really unconscious, is that it?” Vanessa actually hits the nail on the head. The Lieutenant walks over to stand behind her officers.

“Perhaps.” You adjust your glasses. “Grace, Mirjam, I need you to come by my side. Your assistance is needed!”

“What is it, Phil?” Mirjam appears right next to you.

“Anything you need, we got it!” Grace appears by your other side.

“This will be unorthodox, but follow my lead.” You keep adjusting your glasses to look cool.

“Don’t tell me you’re planning on doing …it?” Vanessa just trembles at the thought.

“So that’s what's going to happen.” Kobashi knows this won’t be pretty, but it’s necessary.

“…” Yareli knows where you are going with this and she doesn’t like it one bit. Or maybe she does. Yareli is… y’know.

Hmm?” Houda is mighty interested now. “The mind is racing, chaps. What is it?”

“We know you’re faking it, Ophelia! You sniveling runt! Take this!”

The ticklening has begun! You put your hands near Ophelia’s armpits and try to find her weak spots! Maybe around her waist? On the neck? Behind the ears? Her funny bone must be somewhere!

“Haha! This isn’t what I was expecting in the slightest! You lads, you’re amazing!” Houda has a good laugh!

“It’s a serious procedure!” Kobashi doesn’t understand why the thief is having a laughing fit.

“Oh! I thought he was going to poke her!” Vanessa got it all wrong! Poking is exclusively for her. Unless it’s not poking and it’s more like booping, that’s fair game with everyone.

“…” Yareli… is slowly waving the top of her nails on Ophelia’s cheek! She’s helping!

“C’mon, girls! I need help!” You request backup!

“P-Phil…!” Mirjam is hiding behind you and points forwards.

“L-Look…!” Grace, who’s by Mirjam’s side, points onwards too.

“Wha—”

Ophelia is wide awake.

And probably wants you murdered.

…?!

Ah, you’re finally awake. You were trying to cross the board— Ehem! No, Johnny, play it cool. You have level 5 Courage, you’re supposed to be fearless.

“Ah, you’re awake!” You cough to regain your composure. “My ace trick worked like a charm.” Yeah, you pretend to be unperturbed and cool even with Ophelia giving you the death glare. Houda is really interested in what you’re about to do. He’s the only one of the bunch that’s looking directly at Ophelia who remains calm.

“What do you think you were doing.” By the looks of it, Ophelia is planning on offering your broken soul to her damned god after she’s done with you.

“Obviously, what I’m trying to do is – HIYA!” You use the patented Spice technique to knock out people without giving them brain damage out of nowhere! You gave her no time to react!

NaAAagh!” Ophelia goes unconscious. Both officers struggled for a second to hold her up. Kobashi would’ve liked for you to give them a heads up. Yareli didn’t mind.

“She’s out.” Yareli has seen her fair share of people fainting (mainly Kobashi), so she’s an expert.

“I got her, Yareli.” Kobashi puts the head of the orphanage on the couch again.

That technique! It cannot be!” Vanessa is not only impressed by your move but finds it familiar in an unsettling manner.

“Woah! That’s so cool! Phil is totally a super-spy from the future!” Grace finds this very cool! Your move is not showy at all since it isn’t supposed to be. But maybe that gives it flair? Who knows?

“I thought those kinds of takedowns were unrealistic.” Houda Lan, you’re a phantom thief, you’re not one to talk. “But as long as the wretched witch is down, who am I to talk?”

“Is everrrything going to be okay now?” Mirjam asks in case she needs to be prepared. Everyone turned to her at first, but once she was done, they turned to you. Their expectations are on you!

Ophelia is not going to be down forever. It wouldn’t be an issue, but if she manages to leave her body again in ghost form, it’s gonna be trouble. You need to find a way to prevent it.

Naiad lets you know with a funky dance that she’s going to find a way to seal Ophelia’s abilities. The little fairy is trying to redeem herself. She doesn’t need to do anything of the sort! Her help has been invaluable! She will require help from the guys at Dream Hill, so she might take a while.

“Guys, keep an eye on her. We need some time for my people to sort something out to make sure our wicked witch here doesn’t use her magic tricks anymore.” You’ll trust Naiad with solving your worries about Ophelia’s potential spiritual fuckery.

The tiny fairy nods as she disembarks her ship near the unconscious woman. With her gadgets in hand, Naiad will do her best to solve this issue! She must be communicating with Xavi as well, so she’s not on her own. But you don’t feel like you need to do anything at the moment. You can prepare for the date with Chio now!

“For how long is she going to be out?” Yareli asks a reasonable question.

“I’m not sure. They stay like this for a while.” You forgot.

“If my supposition is correct. It should be around 20 to 30 minutes.” Vanessa reveals information she shouldn’t know. How Zuspicious…

“That sounds about right.” You adjust your glasses to save face.

“Any precautions?” Yareli doesn’t want this to go haywire.

“I’ll be around until she’s not a threat anymore. Just call me when something’s up.” You’re here to help first and foremost.

“Are you going somewhere?” Mirjam deduces from your answers that you’re planning on doing something.

“Of course, he is! He has a daaaaate!” Grace gets all giggity.

“Date? No, I just have a meeting.” You teased Chio that it was a date, but it’s a joke! “I need to get ready for it, look presentable or else Chio is going to kill me.” Going in a plain white shirt is not a good idea. And with your hoodie keeping the enemy warm, you need to prepare extra!

“You look dreamy to me.” Grace has terrible taste if she thinks you look in any way presentable!

“Yeah, because the chap looks straight out of bed!” Houda Lan has a good laugh.

“Houda! You’re so out of style! His haircut is pretty popular these days!” Vanessa reprimands her phantom friend.

“How rude! I’m a pretty fashionable man, Vanessa.” The unpopular thief feels unfairly slighted. His attire is really goofy though…

“Phil, a word of advice: Do not set the table on fire in any circumstances.” Kobashi has some fatherly words for you. Strangely, your dad gave you the exact same words of advice. “Right, Yareli?”

“…” Yareli shudders. Perhaps, by reminiscing about an old date between the two.

“You set a table on firrre during a date, Officer Kobashi?” Mirjam asks the impulsive cop.

“No. Yareli did.” Kobashi shakes his head.

“…I apologized.” Yareli should sound embarrassed.

“Happens to the best of us.” Lt. van Zullekom agrees that what’s in the past should stay in the past.

“Y-You set a table on firrre too?!” Mirjam doesn’t like being around these people anymore.

“No. Houda did.” Vanessa shakes her head.

“You wanted to watch the knife trick, didn’t you?!” Houda won’t accept responsibility. “The gall of this girl, I swear…”

While you can trust them to handle a life-or-death situation, you believe dating is not their expertise to say the least. In that case, who better to help you out than people who know your supposed date since they were weak little children? Yes! You’re going to ask Mirjam and Grace for their input for this monumental task of somehow meeting Chio’s hefty standards!

“Huh, ehm, Grace, Mirjam, can you two help me prepare for the meeting?” You ask politely.

“Of course, Phil!” Mirjam agrees without thinking about it for a second.

“We told you, didn’t we? Whatever you need, we’re here to help!” Grace gets pumped! “Buuut there isn’t much we can, like, do. We don’t own any guy’s clothes. Though, you’d look great in my overalls!”

“I-I don’t think they’ll fit him.” Mirjam doesn’t think this is a good idea aside from being a nice sentiment.

“That’s why I’m bringing this up, Mirjam!” Grace starts pouting as she swings her arms around. She didn’t want to come off as an airhead.

“If I may trouble you for a second, I might be the ace under your sleeve.” Houda gently taps your shoulder. “If a special attire is what you need, I’m the man with a plan.”

“Plan?” You want him to spit it out already.

“I’m a traveling showman, Phil. I carry with me all types of clothing of all sizes.” Houda adjusts his sunglasses. “As recent acquaintances, I’d love to lend a hand. But you know when it comes to favors, one expects reciprocity. There are some oddities here and there I’d like cleared up, so after the dust is settled, I want to have a lil’ chit chat with you.”

“Keep in mind I’m limited on what I can say.” You pretend that you have hold-ups about what you can divulge.

“Ease your worries, my dear fellow! I’m well prepared to not get my queries unanswered, but I must give it a shot if I want to sleep at night.” Houda isn’t trying to put pressure on you. He’s just quite the curious fellow. “Here’s my suitcase!” Out of nowhere, he hands you the goods!

“Be wary of what you tell him, Phil.” Yareli isn’t fond of the criminal yet.

“Yeah, keep your secrets to yourself, or else he’ll keep reminding you of your failings for years!” Vanessa missed the real intention of Yareli’s words. “He’s ruthless!”

“Vanessa, that’s of your own making. You’re the one who keeps reminding me of your shortcomings.” Houda Lan won’t take the blame.

“Can’t say I disagree.” Kobashi should defend his friend… Though, he believed her to be a criminal as recently as this morning so can you blame him for not trusting her?

“Woah, there are some crisp suits in here!” Grace is already exploring the case. “Look! These are animals!” Grace puts some stupid-looking attire on. It’s a duck!

“Hahaha! What are you doing, Grace?” Mirjam contains her laughter.

“Let’s take these to another room.” You don’t want to strip here… “We’ll use Vanessa’s room!”

“Alright!” Grace and Mirjam agree!

“B-B-But there’s a guest room!” Vanessa doesn’t want her room to become disorganized.

“Pay them no mind. We have to guard this woman.” Yareli sighs.

“Well, dandelions, I’ll take the guest room then. I’m sure tired after another exhausting mission!” Houda Lan walks away to sleep.

Kobashi, Yareli, and Vanessa will stay on guard in case Ophelia wakes up while Naiad will continue doing her investigation. You, Grace, and Mirjam will figure out the best approach for the dinner with Chio.

“Okay, girls! You know Chio better than anyone so I’m depending on you!” You made it clear that they’re the ones in charge here.

“Lemme look!” Grace dives into the huge suitcase. There are far too many choices inside even taking into account the size of the thing. “Look! A shrimp suit!” Grace takes some goofy looking pajamas from it. “Here, Mirjam! You wear it!” The duck demands!

“I-I don’t want to be a shrrrrimp!” Mirjam refuses to wear the stupid outfit.

Mirjam is a shrimp now.

“Hmm, we need to find something good for Phil now.” Grace is ready to tackle the task at hand.

“I imagine Chio would like something sophisticated.” You steer them to a much clearer objective.

“You’re going to a fancy place?” Mirjam wonders if such a place exists in Xumenlo.

“I have no idea.” You recall Chio wanted it to be a surprise. “But she wanted me to look presentable.” You reiterate.

“We could sabotage their date…” Grace is coming up with an evil scheme as she holds up some eccentric attire.

“N-No! We can’t!” Mirjam rejects the idea immediately.

“I’m kiddin’! I’m kiddin’! I’m not Cookie, y’know?” Grace giggles. “I’m not gonna waste my chance here, I’ll make Phil look really dreamy.” Pigtails gets all excited.

“You always go a lil’ overboard, you’re already picking outlandish stuff.” Mirjam is worried about how the date will go.

“Phil can totally pull off a vibrant look!” Grace will dress you however SHE wants.

“He’s dating Chio! Tone it down!” The seemingly shy Mirjam remains firm as she starts looking for other options.

“If Chio gets what she wants, Phil will look like some kind of monk.” Grace believes Chio is way too old-fashioned to the point that her taste is considered national heritage.

“This is close to what you were looking for, rrrright?” Mirjam shows a nice-looking suit.

“Yeah, but that’s so, like, drab.” Grace digs again for another choice. “How about this? I think Purple really fits him!” You’re starting to like Grace’s opinion more.

“Oh yeah, that one works!” Grace is on board! “C’mon, Phil, try it!”

“Here?” You raise an eyebrow.

“Y-Y-Y-You want to strip here?!” Grace wasn’t expecting it!

“Aaaah?!” Mirjam doesn’t even know what to say.

“Just kiddin’.” You can make jokes too. Vanessa has a bathroom here, time to change in there.

You find it odd that the suit perfectly fits you. But as long as it does its job.

“Woah!” Mirjam claps upon seeing you out of the bathroom.

“Here, don’t forget your jacket!” Grace was waiting on handing the last piece! Both girls help you put it on!

“Thank you!” You feel ready and smooth. Smooth ready. “How do I look?” You ask the shrimp and the duck.

Perrrfect!” Mirjam talks for both!

“We handpicked it, of course, you look great!” Grace can’t help but to grab your arm and smile.

Naiad shows up to inform you with a peculiar dance that reinforcements are coming over to deal with Ophelia! She requires someone’s help, but you are unable to decipher who. They’ll be any minute here now.

You place Naiad up on your shoulder to reassure her that you have heard her message. Before you deal with Ophelia for good, you make a spontaneous call to Chio to ask her to get ready for your date at the Modern Flavor (Vanessa has a phone in her room).

The Artist girl was slightly offended that you thought there was even the slightest of possibilities that she would forget. You retorted that you didn’t mean it to come out that way, but you’re glad it’s her top priority for the day – she mumbled her words after that, but now everything is settled! It’s time to go! Well, you did tell Chio to wait an extra 30 minutes after the call to get some things ready.

With the call done, you thanked the duo for their invaluable help once again! The girls reminded you that they were more than happy to help. Mirjam made a little joke that if the date went sour, they'd be more than happy to cheer you up, which Grace strongly teased her for.

Back in the living room, Kobashi, Yareli, and Vanessa are playing poker while guarding Ophelia. You didn’t expect them to be goofing around, but it’s not like you mind. As soon as you three made your presence known, Naiad informed you that the cavalry had arrived! You let everyone know.

It’s Oliver! He reveals he’s the special help you were waiting for! Wait, no, he lied! San Wich is the special help that Naiad requested for. They struggled to understand the dancing fairy, as her method of communication wasn’t effective with them, but the ill-fitting named Entity could perfectly translate.

Naiad lets you know that she and Xavi figured out that the entity responsible for this realm existing most likely has the innate ability to restrict someone’s powers since he was able to grant Matilda the ability to perceive entities. With Naiad’s indications from her research and San Wich’s help, she expects to restrict Ophelia’s abilities. San Wich briefly reminds everyone that he’s not necessarily bound to this world’s Wilma and can roam freely! Now he’ll make sure nothing bad happens to his friends. You wonder what the true nature of San Wich’s powers are…

This means that Naiad will no longer be accompanying you for a little while.

After letting everyone know what the plan is (in vague terms. You made it sound like Oliver is doing something). You say goodbye to everyone to make your way to the fancy restaurant! A short see you later to Grace, Mirjam, Yareli, Kobashi, Vanessa, Oliver, San Wich, and Naiad! Houda is still sleeping.

You arrived at the Modern Flavor first! You miscalculated the 30 minutes that you believed it’d take to figure things out with Ophelia, so here you are earlier than anticipated. Though, it didn’t take long for your date to arrive. If this is a date. It might be just a meeting.

From a seemingly random taxi, Chio comes out properly dressed like she always does, with an air of elegance you aren’t accustomed to, she walks with confidence up to you.

“There you are, Noon.” Chio tries to assert dominance and coldly acknowledges you.

How do you respond?

>“Looking good, Chio!” Praise the beautiful elegant woman in the way she expects!

“Looking good, Chio!” You acknowledge Chio the way she wants. Though, you wonder why she brought her brush here…

“Naturally.” Chio likes what she hears as she confidently struts right in front of you. “You’re no wordsmith, but I applaud your intent. We’ll work on this matter as time goes on.” Chio turns her eyes sideways. “D-Don’t think I don’t want to hear your words of appraisal.” She acts shy.

“Eh, I just didn’t want to go overboard.” You have the knowledge to make more flowery compliments. But wit is the soul of brevity or something. “So, how do I look?”

“You quite exceeded my expectations! I didn’t believe you could look this dashing and proper.” Chio starts tidying you up a little. “Now, your haircut on the other hand…”

“Hey, everyone told me it’s trendy.” You’ll take everyone at their word, but this is truly a bizarro world if that’s really the case.

“I-Is it?” Chio loses a tiny bit of confidence. Her whole train of thought relied on putting your awful haircut down. “Don’t think I’m out of fashion! I just have more exquisite taste.”

“Speaking of taste… Shall we go inside?” You extend your arm towards the picky teacher. She takes a second before putting her arm around it, she didn’t think you were going to do a bold move.

“You’re more forward than I was anticipating. I like it.” Chio successfully avoids not tripping on her words.

“Well, what can I say? That’s just how I am.” And you’re hungry. You can talk while waiting for the food!

Once inside, the waiter shows you two the way to your table. Chio made a reservation the day prior! What a thoughtful girl! The Modern Flavor is a somewhat fancy and overly ornamented place, stuck in the past in a good way, a lot of the decorations are sea-related without being tacky. While not beaming with life, it certainly has a good number of regulars and the atmosphere is pretty mellow. It perfectly captures that vibe between not being too fancy for your regular folk but without devolving into a noisy bar. Perfect for a date. You enjoy it, but you’re not used to it.

The prices on the menu are pretty fair, lower than you were expecting given the pretty amount Kobashi gave you. Maybe he wanted you to pay for Chio’s plate? It is certainly in the realm of possibilities, but wouldn’t it be too much? The food selection is sparse, but as far as you know, the more items on a menu, the worse the place.

“Feel free to choose. I’ll cover the tab.” Chio puts the menu down. She’s ready to order.

Offer to pay?

>Tell Chio you’ll pay next time.
>Tell Chio you want to split the bill.
>Refuse and tell her you’re paying!
>Write In.

What do you do?

>Talk about her career! As the career-driven person she is, Chio would love to talk about her interests!
>Ask about how the sleepovers are going with Mirjam, Grace, and Cookie! That’s something you both are interested in.
>Ask Chio why she brought the brush.
>Tell Chio everything you accomplished today! Wilma’s nightmare is on its way to being over!

“Then I’ll pay next time.” You wiggle your eyebrows to act cheeky.

“Next time…?” Chio is taking a fat minute to realize the implication.

“Yeah, for our next date.” You move those wiggling boys faster.

Chio coughs from the utter shock in response, a tiny giggle comes out as well in the midst of the pain, perhaps your well-intentioned eyebrow movement was funny to her once again. “O-Oh. Yes. If this goes well, I’d love to meet up again in the same fashion.” Chio tries to regain her composure but cannot look you in the eyes.

“I’ll make sure it does then.” You warmly smile. You have to do your best!

“I-In any case, are you ready to order?” Chio urgently changes topics. You nod back.

After placing your orders, there’s some time to kill with a good chat.

“Y’know, Chio, this meal is the perfect celebration for what I’ve done today.” You adjust your glasses.

“How so?” Chio has a skeptical look on.

“You see, today, me and the boys did…” You’re going to take advantage of Yareli not being here to say that.

With minimal details to spare, you explain everything you accomplished today to Chio, mainly what the main repercussions of your actions will lead to! And that’s great news: Ophelia Bruun will be jailed, and Wilma will be free!

“…I wanted to let you know because I know how important this is for you too.” You finish your not-so-amazing tale with amazing results.

“Are you telling me you were so confident that you were going to be able to do all of this and leave unscathed that you programmed this date?” Chio is in awe! She’s making a face full of admiration!

“I mean, I don’t have to cook as I wanted, so yeah, I thought I could pull it off. B-But don’t get me wrong, I did my best at all times!” You don’t want to make her mad by acting like you did a shoddy job. “Confident or not, I knew I couldn’t fail. I was determined to save Wilma.”

“I have to admit that words are failing me at the moment, but primarily I want to let you know how thankful I really feel for your sacrifice.” Chio is being as straightforward as she can. “You have my eternal gratitude for helping my family, Phil Noon.” She solemnly bows her head down.

“N-No need to thank me. I just did what I thought was right.” You can’t wear out your catchphrase by saying it all the time even if it was on the tip of your tongue. Besides, What’s good?™ carries a punch because of how sparse your usage of it is!

“I’m not blind to your many shortcomings.” That’s the dry Chio you know.

“R-Right.” You’re lucky that the meals have arrived!

They look below average even if Chio’s reaction is the polar opposite. She really loves her fish, doesn’t she?

What do you do?

You need things to get more intimate! This is a date after all!

“Chio, tell me, wha—” You get distracted by Chio’s way of eating.

“A-Anything wrong?” Chio stops to ask. She looks so similar to Nariko that seeing her eat so normally threw off your train of thought! She’s not that elegant like her daughter! Guess you weren't paying much attention to her manner of eating when you ate together with everyone . Except when you made her drool with your perfect salmon!

“Nothing. I got distracted by your, err, beauty.” You deadpan your panic response. Chio turns slightly tomato. “A-And it got me wondering, what are your plans for the future?”

“I thought you couldn’t disclose future events.” Chio seems perplexed.

“I’m asking in general. That rule still stands.” You take a bite out of your food. Not great. Appalling, really. You can eat it though.

“I made my intentions known already, didn’t I? I want to be the greatest painter the country has ever seen. In the discussion for the greatest of all time at the very least.” Chio gets all serious explaining her lofty ambitions. “I’m conscious that due to my upbringing it’s going to be difficult, but I relish the challenge.”

“Yeah, you’re pretty amazing already!” You boost her ego but not unfoundedly! “But I was referring to the near future.”

“Undoubtedly, I want to earn enough money to secure a place for my sisters to live and prosper, so I must continue my art program.” Chio is not looking out for herself first. “Beyond that… l-lately, I’ve been thinking about perhaps pursuing a relationship to see how it goes…”

“You want to marry? Have kids too?” You won’t throw her a questionnaire like Ruby did to you, but a couple of questions won’t hurt.

“Y-You’re thinking way ahead!” Chio gets all red for some reason.

“…Aren’t you the one who wants to be the greatest painter on this side of the world?” You raise an eyebrow.

“Do-Don’t act idiotically. You know very well the difference!” Chio almost chokes drinking her juice.

How do you respond?

>“Of course, I do! I just like teasing you.” Tenderly smile to confuse her!
>“Any reason you’re interested now?” What’s the cause? Someone she met? Who could it be?
>“Sorry, sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you.” Act apologetically.
>“Then let’s change topics: this meal is awful.” It has been bothering you for a while!

Aww shit, crossfire or whatever her name was is gonna try to steal our glasses.

Let’s make her squirm a bit.

Aah, also after she gets stumped with that ask about her brush. It’s cute but I suspect there’s a more philosophical reason behind it.

On second thought something about the look on Crossbill’s face makes me think she’s going to go for Chio’s brush?

“Of course, I do! I just like teasing you.” You tenderly smile to confuse Chio! She’s as bewildered as you were expecting.

“W-Why? All you’re doing is testing my patience. And don’t be mistaken, once it runs dry, I will correct your behavior.” Chio glares back at you.

“I mean your reactions are funny. They let me see a side of you not many can.” You can see under her façade! She’s not the evil vindictive teacher you saw her as at first! She’s still obnoxiously blunt and unsympathetic to other people though, but she’s getting better.

“You want to feel superior by knocking me down a notch for your own amusement, Is that all I am for you?” Chio feels undermined.

“No, I like what’s underneath that wall you put up.” You try to make her understand what you really mean.

“Wipe that cheeky smile from your face and be upfront about it.” Chio demands to be acknowledged. “Are my other qualities not enough to garner the same interest? Do you understand how hard I worked to be the way I am?”

“I enjoy every bit about you. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.” You can like people as a whole! That’s the point sometimes! Unless if it gets toxic, but that’s another whole other topic. These are the lessons you have gotten from the events and relationships you’ve been a part of. “That’s why I’m here, to be with you.”

“…G-Good response.” Chio could’ve been more subtle about how much she liked your words, not like she could’ve hid it, she’s as red as a certain vegetable…

What do you do?

>“Personally, I don’t think you have to try so hard to keep up appearances. You’re wonderful as you are!” You didn’t think Chio was this insecure, but it’s time to boost that ego in a healthy way.
>“With that in mind, I’ll go back to teasing: Look at how red your cheeks are! I wanna pinch them!” Enough seriousness, time for some fun!
>“What do you think about me? Am I just a pretty face to you?” Wiggle those eyebrows. Just continue the conversation towards its natural course!

“Personally, I don’t think you have to try so hard to keep up appearances. You’re wonderful as you are!” You boast Chio’s ego in a healthy way! Why? Because she needs it.

“Now you’re going over the line with your compliments in an unbelievable fashion… Please continue.” Chio liked that. A lot.

“I mean what I said, Chio. Don’t look over it.” You really don’t want the message to be lost.

“If it means that much to you, I’ll try.” Chio misses her opportunity to use the phrase.

“You’ll do your best then?” You’ll push it like you’re a sitcom character.

“Yes, Phil, I will.” Chio promises! “Please correct my conduct in the future if I happen to fail. I’ll do the same with you. We’ll depend on each other. Now eat your meal, I believe it’s getting cold.”

“Oh yeah, that’s ri—”

The moment you direct the fork towards the food everything changes. The whole world around has turned into a blur! Y-You’re blind! Blind as a baseball bat!

… You tap your face with your fingertips to make sure the cause is exactly as you imagine. Your glasses are missing! Someone stole them! You can’t do anything!

“Sorry, partner. I was sleeping.” Philonune apologizes for not being on guard. You tell him it’s fine, but you need to do something!

“C-Chio, where are my glasses…?” If anyone saw what happened, it should be her!

“…” Chio is not saying anything! All you see is a giant red blur in front of you!

Oh no… The blurs… the blurs are turning into unrecognizable blobs! You’re spending too much time without your glasses! T-This is your worst nightmare come to life!

You’re exaggerating, but it is pretty dreadful! This is for sure going to ruin this date! Okay, maybe you’re exaggerating again. But you need your glasses back!

Sadly, this is all we have for this thread! Until next time and thanks for playing!

Couldn't we use Philonune on our cornea to bend the light.
>>
>>5220537
Actually, yeah.
>>5220729
Philonune can never be blinded by the light, so shouldn't we be able see without our glasses?
>>
>>5220730
What? I said that because if he can change the way light interacts with us, couldn't he latch onto the cornea, the transparent layer obove the pupil, and bend the light as it passes through like how glasses work? If Chio ask we could say it's future tech and if someone else asks we can say we have a disease or something.
>>
>>5220772
I still don't see why we need to say its tech anyways.
>>
>>5220729
We definitely should be able to, and I’ve had that particular use in mind for a while now since Johnny losing his glasses is a huge and obvious weakness.
>>
>>5220971
We should brainstorm more ideas to test the next time Johnny and Philonune have the time. If Philo can change the way light interacts with what he's latched onto, does that mean we could see through walls if we put him on one? Could he focus UV light into a laser? What about air or water? Can we make a kugelblitz?
>>
>>5221240
Creating lasers and that sort of thing has been refuted by the QM explicitly before, but there's still plenty of room for creativity.

My personal issue with Johnny's use of his powers is that...once the enemy knows someone can go invisible the efficacy of doing so DRAMATICALLY decrease, and it's inevitable that people will find out soon. Johnny's flashbang-glasses don't have that disadvantage but are a much more niche item in the first place.

Our powers also don't directly add to our combat ability very well at the moment, and Johnny keeps putting off Matilda's training so we're far from an expert combatant yet either. My personal favorite idea to address that is to figure out how to use our powers to partially render ourselves invisible and create decoys. In a fight if we could do something as simple as make it look like we're going for a jab while we're actually doing an uppercut it gives us a huge edge.
>>
>>5221303
Aah, also we might theoretically be able to...i don't know, use bloodsplatter from Johnny getting beat up to disguise terrain to our advantage as well.
