You huff back at Yuzu and join her in collapsing on a pair of nearby plastic chairs. You sit there recovering for a few minutes before she turns to you.

“It’s your turn to pick something to lose at,” she says.

“Bold of you to assume you’ll win,” you reply, still heaving for breath slightly.

“Given your performance so far,” she replies. “I think it’s a safe bet to make.”

>Suggest a shooting game. You’re no gunner but your reactions are decent.

“Hmph, funny,” you grumble as you eye the scatter games before your eyes settle on one. “I don’t remember you ever handling a tank cannon before though.”

“I’ve gone skeet shooting once,” she replies, apparently unphased.

“Once,” you reply as the two of you walk to the machine. On closer inspection it appears to be a hunting game. Animals – mostly geese it seems will appear and whoever hits them first, scores a point. Every so often a moose worth ten appears too.

You slot some coins in and grab one of the guns. It’s designed to look like an over-under shotgun and looks rather similar for a plastic model.

The first goose appears on screen, and you’re quick to snap to it and shoot it down. The second one falls to you as well, but when you go for the third you realise you have to reload the gun by racking it.

In the time it’s taken you to realise, consider how stupid racking an over-under, then rack it, Yuzu’s evened the score, and is lining up a third goose. You manage to snag it from her, but the next two go to her.

Unfortunately, it seems that having shot a gun once in her life means that she sort of knows what she’s doing. You’re not much of a marksman yourself either, but you know enough to hold your own, and as you’re approaching the end of the round you’re ahead by several points.

A moose pops up. You see Yuzu track towards it. You move to shoot it, but you’re out of ammo and the reload will take too long.

>Graciously accept defeat.
>Shout something to distract her. (What?)
>Tackle Yuzu so she can’t shoot it.

>Graciously accept defeat.

Several ideas flash through your head, but while some of them will get you the win, you’d rather not have your girlfriend see you as a sore loser. Instead, you resign yourself to losing to her, again, and rack your over-under as you watch her track towards the moose. Her first shot misses, and for a moment you think you have an opportunity, but just as you’re moving towards it, her second shot clips the moose’s horns, a second before it ends, leaving her two points ahead of you.

“You hit its horn! That wouldn’t kill it,” you complain for dramatic effect as you put the gun away.

“Don’t hate the player, hate the game,” Yuzu giggles as she slots hers back into its holder.

“So, skeet shooting, huh?” You ask. “Once a long time ago?”

“I never said a long time ago,” she replies with an innocent smile. “Just that it was once.”

“I think that counts as cheating then!” You declare as the two of you drift away from the arcade. “Therefore I win by default.”

“So you’re telling me you picked the game because you thought you would win,” Yuzu states. “Either way, I won the dance off, and the bowling, meaning I’m either three to zero or two to one.”

“I…I’ll get you next time,” you sigh, admitting defeat.

“I’m sure you will,” Yuzu laughs as she pats your back. The two of you stop for ice cream before heading back, according to Yuzu you get the honour of paying since you lost at the arcade.

>Head back to Ooarai and meet up with your crew

After you return to Ooarai, the two of you split up. You don’t know what she heads off to do, but you head back to the small block you share with the rest of Werewolf team.

>Find out more about what Ruby and Axel got up to back home.

You enter the shared common room, and all is normal. Max and Leo are arguing about something, Axel is keeping them from each other, and Ruby is egging the lot of them on. You let them go at it for a little bit, reminiscing about days where the there was maybe a little bit more heat behind the arguments before making your presence known.

“Trouble in paradise?” You ask Max and Leo as you watch the argument.

That gets a bark of laughter from Ruby and manages to successfully break up the argument. With your job as Commander done, you turn your attention back to the recently returned members of your crew.

“How was home?”

“Relaxing,” Ruby replies for the two of them. “It was nice to go back, see everyone. Your parents were spoiling Erika.”

“As expected,” you nod at that.

“I reckon it’s empty nest syndrome,” Ruby replies. “I think you’ve been replaced with Maho.”

“I have, have I?”

“Sure have, she was there basically everyday we were,” Ruby nods. “Apart from the Monday I think.”

“She was here with Miho,” you reply. “It was her birthday.”

Axel nudges Ruby who looks confused for a moment. It takes her a full twenty seconds of staring off into space to realise.

“Oh yeah! The museum!” She says, nodding. “They want us to run an errand for them!”

“What kind of errand?” You ask.

“They want us to visit a museum here and pound their best team into the dust.”

“I…was not expecting that,” you admit. “Still, it sounds like a pretty simple task.”

“And if this museum team was any good, we’d have heard of them,” Ruby nods. “Sounds open and shut to me.”

“There’s got to be more to it than that,” Max hums. “I just can’t figure out what yet.”

>“Sounds simple to me.”
>“The museum is usually straight with us, so I can’t see what else there’d be too it.”

>Did they say something about why they want this team defeated? Why does a museum even have a team?

“Bad blood from what we could figure out,” Ruby states, getting a nod from Axel. “You know how museums like to share exhibits around? I think a deal went wrong or something like that.”

“’N we’re the hitmen da boss is sending to enforce the contract!?” Max asks, incredulously. “If you squint at it, it’s like a bad gangster movie!”

“Regardless of what it looks like, the museum has been good to us, so let’s not spit on that,” you say. “I’ll go down when I get a chance and figure out the logistics of this then.”

“Still doesn’t explain why a museum has a team,” Leo chips in. The lot of you turn to Ruby, including Axel, and she freezes for a moment at the sudden attention before she snaps out of it and reverts to anger.

“I don’t know why you’re looking at me!” She snaps, rounding on Axel. “You were there too!”

“Maybe it’s like us,” you chip in to save Axel from death by Ruby. “A tank they support, rather than a team that belongs to the specifically.”

“Yeah, that sounds more plausible,” Ruby nods.

With an explanation offered, and the matter dealt with interest dissipates, and your crew slowly go back to what they were doing before - arguing. You decide to do the responsible thing and egg them on.

Monday 29th October (Day 196)

You’re woken up far earlier and more rudely that morning, by an alarm clock blaring at you. You reckon Otto agrees with you the way he launches himself at the alarm and attempts to kill it. While he gets the casing good, he’s unfortunately unable to end the noise and you have to reach over to slap it.

>Take everyone out to practice ASAP, try to knock some of the rust off.

When you get into practice that day, you know exactly what you want to happen. Your teammates are slowly filing in, lethargic after a week off practice, and their work, if they’re doing any, is slow and they’re more interested in finding out what their friends have done than getting any practice done. That can’t stand – not with a tournament on the way – and from Miho’s expression, it seems that she agrees with you.

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” You ask as you walk over to stand next to her.

“Depends on if you’re thinking we should get everyone out onto the field,” she replies.

“Mind reader,” you reply with a smile. “Shall I do the honours?”

“The stage is yours,” she says, gesturing to the warehouse. You look around, see Frederick nearby and heave yourself up on him. You can feel the vague annoyance as you do, but you ignore it and get to shouting.

“Everyone! Mount up! We’re going into the field! Now!” You shout, repeating it twice for good measure. There are groans and complaints, but no one refuses, and slowly you see engines starting and tanks starting to move. You stay up long enough to make sure there are no problems before climbing down and moving to your own tank where your crew are already ready to move.

“Back in business, ey, Werewolf?” You ask as you slap the side of his turret. There’s a bang from the engine in response – thankfully not another breakdown and you rumble out into the woods you use as a training ground. There’s a bit of sloppiness – to be expected after taking time off, but nothing that a little training won’t fix.

>Have everyone practice communicating via radio without Saori coordinating them all.

As everyone is rolling around, getting their tanks dirty and generally tearing up the terrain, you ponder what to do. When you hear Saori correcting Hippo team’s course, an idea comes to mind.

“Say, Miho. What do you think of a land nav exercise?” You pose.

“On Ooarai? Where everyone knows their way around like the backs of their hand?” She asks. “They’ll have no trouble getting anywhere.”

“Well, not usually,” you admit, “but if Saori isn’t saying anything to nudge them along…”

“Then it could end up being a mess,” Miho quickly realises. She ducks down into her tank, and a moment later it’s engine shuts off and she reappears. “Now we watch.”

And watch you do, neither of you say anything useful apart from the orders Miho gives telling various teams to form up and go somewhere else, only to be ordered to reform with other people on the other side of the field and move again. It’s chaos, and it’s made worse by the lack of radio discipline. Everyone is trying to talk on the same channel meaning no one is being heard. Eventually, after almost half an hour of wasting fuel, a system is figured out where one team - Rabbit coordinates the rest, exactly how Saori was. It lasts as long as it takes you to start shooting at them. Rabbit team are suddenly too busy returning fire to help everyone else and you’re back to chaos, just as planned.

>Find out how it’s going about the gold from the History Club.

At lunch, instead of seeking out the council as you usually do, you head to the cafeteria and wait. Your prey arrives a few moments later and you swoop on them.

“Caesar!” You cheer, causing the girl to flinch and spin to face you. “How are we doing with the museums?”

“Mackensen,” she greets you, taking a breath to steady herself. “We already have inquries.”

“From who?” You ask.

“Yūshūkan inquired,” she replies. “As did the British Museum.”

“…The one in London?”

“I don’t think there are any other ‘the British Museum’s,” Caesar replies.

>“I think we should wait and see if any more pop out of the woodwork.”
>“Yūshūkan is pretty respected around here, right? Maybe we should see what they have to say.”

>“Yūshūkan is pretty respected around here, right? Maybe we should see what they have to say.”

“They’re the best,” Caesar nods. “A bit stuffy and old fashioned though.”

“That usually means they’re good at their job,” you reply, getting another nod.

“I bet they are,” she says. “We’re not going to give it to them yet, though, are we?”

“Definitely,” you confirm. “At most we’ll find out what they want and consider it, but nothing more.”

“Right! That sounds like a plan! I’ll let the others know.” Caesar confirms. “It’s pretty funny that the British Museum came knocking though.”

“It’s very funny,” you agree. “But I don’t see what they have to do with it and therefore why we should bother with them.”

“They’re probably stacked though,” Caesar muses. “Ce la vie, we’re not here for the money though.

“My thoughts exactly,” you reply, before letting her go to lunch and heading to grab some yourself.

>Make sure every tank is inspected since they haven’t been for a week.

That evening, when you get into the warehouse, you know exactly what needs to be done. All the tanks you use on operations must be given a proper once over. You know they do because Werewolf needs one since you forgot to do it straight after the Unlimited-lite with Miho apart from a quick scrub. Every tank started in the morning, but that’s probably not something you’ll be able to slack on if you want to keep it that way.

The order is met with resistance since complaining is the job of subordinates and a long task like a full check of a tank means no free time in the evening, but it needs to be done, and once they see Anglerfish and you get started, they also get stuck in. It’s a good thing you did too, as it turns out the Porsche Tiger and one of the Shermans was on the brink of failure that may have put them out of action for a while. It means going to bed late, but once in a while, that has to happen.

Tuesday 31st October (Day 198)

You wake up that morning and go about your business as usual. As you’re heading to the warehouse, you realise the town is spookier than usual. It takes you a moment to put that and the date together, and you wonder for a moment whether the decorations went up overnight, or you just didn’t notice them until now.

You chalk it up to being too busy worrying about other things before continuing your journey to the warehouse.

>More land nav communication exercises and do your best to make them as challenging as possible.

When you get into the warehouse, you can see that your teammates are already moving to prepare their tanks for training in a moment. The warehouse also looks suitably spooky, with someone having taken the trouble to hang up fake cobwebs, put out some pumpkins, and sit a skeleton in one of the CV.33s sitting in the corner.

“I thought that we might as well continue where we left off yesterday,” Miho says.

“Which is what I was thinking,” you say, nodding your approval. “We going to make it tougher?”

“Obviously,” she replies. “If it’s worse here, then they’ll know what to do on the field. Not that I expect to get knocked out.”

“Pride cometh before the fall,” you quote at her.

“You are far too ugly to be Darjeeling,” you hear your sister fire off from somewhere behind you. You’re about to hit her with a scathing response when Anzu appears out of nowhere and drags you off.

“Fritz.”

“Prez,” you reply. “There a reason you dragged me out of the warehouse? When you could have talked to me normally?”

“It’s Koyama’s birthday tomorrow,” she states. “Just thought you’d like to know.”

“Uh, yeah, that’s good information to have,” you reply, mind already whirring.

“I trust you’ll do something about that?”

>“Yeah, I got this. But if you have any useful information to make this go better, I'd be grateful."

“Smart, smart,” Anzu nods sagely. “I’d say make it something small but meaningful.”

“Small but meaningful?”

“Exactly,” Anzu nods again. “Koyama isn’t one for big parties – at least not for herself, but I always make sure to get her something, so she knows I remember. Well, she knows I know, but confirmation that I know and care, you know?”

“I know,” you reply, getting the gist of Anzu’s point. “Thanks for…letting me know.”

Anzu snorts and laughs, punching your arm before heading back inside.

>More land nav communication exercises and do your best to make them as challenging as possible.

By the time you return, everyone is ready to go, and tanks are already rolling out after Anglerfish. You climb onto Werewolf, and the moment you’re on board, Max starts moving, taking the rear of the column as you approach the training area. It’s foggy today, and you can barely see the rear of the tank in front of you, but you soon make it, and the tanks begin to split up to start manouvering and navigating.

You’re about halfway through the exercise when you begin to hear the pop of guns and see the flashes of explosions about the place.

“I didn’t know you’d put targets out,” Miho hums as she listens to the radio chatter. “Or planted explosives to simulate misses.”

“I haven’t,” you reply with a frown.

“Well, you have to have done,” Miho replies, gesturing towards the radio. “Someone put out targets of a tank that we don’t have and detonated an explosive as Rabbit team passed.”

“Well, as I said, it wasn’t me,” you reply, frown deepening. There’s nothing from Rabbit team on the radio for a couple minutes before you see their tank burst out of the treeline, going far faster than it should have any right too. It shudders to a halt a couple meters away from you and all the Rabbits burst out of the tank. They promptly scramble towards yours, and into any open hatch they can find.

“Wha? Azusa, what’s going on?” You ask the miniature tank commander that’s wormed her way up to your position in the turret and is latched onto you.

“There’s a ghost tank!” She wails back. “We shot at it, and it went straight through! Then it shot back and almost took us out!”

>“Whatever it was, you probably just missed.”

>“Whatever it was, you probably just missed.”

“We did not!” Azusa gasps, now suddenly glaring at you. “Aya hit the tank! I saw the shell go right through! Isn’t that right, girls!?”

You hear muffled sounds of agreement from inside the tank. You take a peek, and spot all five remaining Rabbits have managed to attach themselves to Axel in some way who’s now trapped in what looks like an incredibly uncomfortable position against the basket.

>Attempt to hunt down the ghost tank to prove it’s nothing.

“How about the six of you head back to your tank, and we can go out and have a look around?” You offer Azusa as you poke her cheek to get her attention. “Find out what it was.”

“M’kay,” she peels herself off you and the climbs down, followed shortly by the rest of Rabbit team, finally freeing Axel.

“Guess being a ladies man isn’t always great, huh?” Max asks, causing Ruby to burst out into laughter. You let them have their fun while you tap your radio and talk to Miho.

“It’s a ghost tank apparently,” you say, quickly explaining the story. “Shall we go hunt it down?”

“Couldn’t have been a trick of the light?” Miho offers.

“Maybe, but Azusa’s not stupid, and their tank looks more beaten than it should.”

“Plus the explosion,” Miho adds. “Well, we might as well take a look. Maybe we can get the rest of the team searching as well. Saori, put out a call, would you?”

The call duly goes out and a few minutes later, the entire team is scouring the area, looking for any sign of the ghost tank that Azusa reported. When you pass on the description, you can tell some teams think you’re sending them on a wild goose chase, but you’re out looking as well, so thankfully that blunts the majority of the grumbling.

Between yourself and the other 14 tanks rumbling about, you’re quickly able to put together a search pattern that’ll cover the entire training area relatively efficiently. You’re pleased to note that almost immediately your training has had an effect, with tanks able to coordinate between each other without the need of a master organiser controlling everything.

You’re well into your patrolling and almost finished with morning practice when there’s another explosion, followed by a sighting report and tank shells being fired.

“We’ve found it!” Duck team hollers! “Our shots really are going right through!”

“We’re on our way!” You shout as Max guns the engine and you begin dashing towards the sighting report. The fog means you can’t go as fast as you’d like, as well as a couple of close calls with trees, but you make it there in one piece. You spot the massive silhouette almost immediately and get to work immediately.

“Ruby! Target! Two hundred meters! To our one o’clock!” You don’t expect much since all you have are training rounds.

You’re proven wrong a moment later, when the round goes straight through, hits a tree on the other side, and detonates.

The splinters launch outwards with many hitting the tank, and it’s then you see that it’s made out of

“Cardboard?” Ruby asks, very confused. The tattered remains of the turret swing towards you. You see a flash that’s almost like that of a gun firing and an explosion nearby to your left, powerful enough to rock your tank. When you look around for the mystery tank again, it’s gone.

“Someone’s fucking with us,” Ruby declares as she climbs up and out of the tank. “They made a fake tank and tried to take advantage of the weather to scare us on Halloween.” She walks over to where the explosion happened and takes a poke around. A moment later, she finds something and throws it to you - wires.

>“Any idea who it could be?”

“Not really,” she shrugs. “Anyone who might think it funny to have a go at us?”

“Which could be just about anyone on the schoolship,” you sigh. You hear another explosion, and belatedly realise that while you’ve been discussing it, the cardboard ghost has been continuing its reign of terror.

“All tanks, it is not a ghost, it’s a cardboard model, mounted on some kind of RC Car I’d bet,” you say. “If you accidentally brought something that isn’t training rounds like we did, have a go at it and see if you can take it out.”

Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of your team, no one can decisively corner the tank, a matter not helped by the weather, and as practice time comes to an end, you’re forced to call off the hunt. You do find some more explosives planted around, and on closer inspection you can see that while they probably won’t be able to do much damage to anything, they are designed to give a mighty flash. You resolved to figure out who did it later so you can get them back.

>Start looking for something ‘small but meaningful.’

At lunch, you decide to try finding something for Yuzu’s birthday. Thankfully, exams are over, meaning you have a little bit of leeway when it comes to getting back in time for classes, but you still don’t have too much time to waste. You decide on a combination of poking your nose in the various shops on the schoolship to see if there’s anything of interest, and browsing shops on the mainland in the city closest to the ship which happens to be Osaka, giving you plenty of choice. Even better, most places offer express delivery, so you should have anything you order from the city in the morning. Eventually, as well as a basket of chocolates you reckon she’ll be fond of, you manage to pick something out.

>A new set of gardening tools to replace the ones she’s been borrowing from Hana.

As you’re walking around, you come across a rather large looking shop. You pause to look at it, and you’re slightly surprised to see how busy it is compared to the other ships on the high street.

It’s a gardening store. There are trucks coming and going far more frequently than any other store and you watch a steady stream of agricultural studies students entering and leaving. You remember that Yuzu’s been getting into flower arrangement with Hana. A light bulb goes off in your head, and you make your way into the store, looking for tools to acquire for her.

The store it seems is more of a wholesale place, set up to support the only commercial customer on the schoolship – the agricultural department, and they don’t usually see to retail customers. However, a quick chat with a nearby clerk and an explaination of what you need it for gets you what you need, and you walk out of the door with a full industrial set of gardening tools. You’re not exactly sure what most of them are for, or how they’re used, but the set has good reviews and was a bit on the expensive side, so you reckon it’ll be a good gift.

>See if you can get any more intel on the Winter Cup.

That evening, you head to the warehouse as normal. You scan the room and notice that a couple of the tanks are missing.

“Ruby, where is everyone?” You ask as you approach.

“Out ghost hunting,” she replies. “Apparently some teams didn’t believe the explaination that it was a prank of some kind, so they’re out hunting.”

“I suppose we can call it night training, huh?” You ask before shaking your head.

You decide to ignore the frolicking in the dark for now, and instead focus on the Winter Cup, which you know very little about. You therefore decide to consult someone who you know has extensive knowledge of Sensha-Do in Japan, Miho.

>Bug Miho to find out everything she knows about the tournament.

It’s not hard to find the girl. Anglerfish team decided against going out hunting for ghost tanks that don’t exist and Miho herself is underneath the tank, attempting to fix something when you arrive.

“Knock knock,” you say as you wrap your knuckles against the back of the tank. “Anyone home?”

“Just a moment!” Comes the muffled reply from Miho. She finishes up what she’s doing before sliding out from underneath. “Fritz! Sorry about that, I was a little busy.”

“No worries,” you reply as you help her up to her feet. “I was wondering what you knew about the Winter Cup.”

“Ah yeah, the Winter Cup,” Miho hums, deep in thought suddenly. You give her time to think on it before she slowly nods. “Well, it’s an older format that’s been brought back,” she begins. “No modern fairness rules, just come and fight as you are.”

“So, we’re going to be at a numbers disadvantage?”

“If our enemy has numbers on us, yes,” she confirms. “Though thankfully, there’s only a handful of schools that have a massive one.”

“Do you know anything else?” You ask.

“Not off the top of my head,” she replies, sighing. “My mother would know more since it was around in her time, but you know…”

“Still a bit awkward,” you finish for her. “No problem, thanks Miho.”

“Anytime!”

>Find out which schools exactly are going to be participating.

With Miho plumbed for information, you decide to do some of your own research. You find a comfortable spot in the lounge and get looking. It’s not hard to find information – the tournament website gives you some of them, and the rest you find through trial-and-error searches on google. Eventually, you come up with a list.

>Get to investigating this ghost tank.

You close the laptop you’re using as you hear the rumble of tank engines, it seems that the rest of your team has returned from hunting the ghost tank.

You head out into the warehouse, and scan the group that came back, looking for someone that might be able to give you good information. Your eyes settle on the History Club. They’re excitable, yes, but they’re also the most likely to pay attention to detail compared to the other teams that went out looking.

“Erwin!” You cheer as you spot one of the buffs still on their tank. “How’d your ghost hunt go?”

“Mackensen! Well, I don’t think it’s a ghost,” she sighs, shaking her head. “Too much evidence to the contrary.”

“Really?”

“Cardboard where the tank took shots, RC car parts scattered about, wires and packs of explosives,” she explains. “None of that screams ghost to me.”

“It doesn’t sound like a ghost to me either,” you nod. “Any suspects?”

“I have no idea,” she admits. “Are there any other clubs that use explosives or remote control cars or have the skills to make a vaguely realistic looking tank?”

“Given the amount of clubs on the ship, I have no doubt that some can, or even a group of them,” you hum.

“But how many of those clubs have we annoyed to the point they feel the need to screw with us like this?”

I'm under the impression that the targets are for learning and practicing hitting weakspots of specific tanks we are likely to encounter. In this case, I would think it would be wise to save them up until we know who we're going against.

>“We’ll need to investigate this more, I think.”

“Well, if you need a hand, feel free to give me a shout,” Erwin replies. “I’d like to figure out who it was just as much as the next guy.

“And we’ll make sure to give whoever it is a proper thank you,” you nod back.

“Exactly!” She nods. You hold out a fist which she bumps back. “We’ll find ‘em for sure!”

“Well, the history club is up two to zero on investigations,” you muse.

“And I’m not about to let us break our streak,” Erwin nods. You stay in the warehouse to chat a little longer to chat to the others that came back from ghost hunting. No one else has anything more useful to say than Erwin, and you get the impression that they mostly went out to have fun in the dark rather than do maintenance, but it’s decent training and Miho doesn’t mind, so you let them have it.

It’s then you notice a commotion in the empty part of the warehouse. It seems that Rabbit team and Saori took the opportunity to go out and acquire enough snacks and drinks for a small Halloween party for the club.

“A Halloween party, huh?” You say allowed, watching them work like professionals to get everything into place.

“Yep! We can’t go a Halloween without a party! Even if it has to be a small one!” Saori declares.

“I just wish you could’ve told me, so I could’ve got a costume,” you muse, a quick scan of the room reveals Saori is the only one in costume, and it’s just a witch hat. “Or signed off on it.”

“Hana approved it, and she’s the boss now,” Saori says. “Besides, it’s not like anyone is using this part of the warehouse.”

“As long as it’s cleaned up,” you reply.

Wednesday 1st November (Day 199)

>Stick to the land nav exercises since they’ve been going so well.

The next morning, the exercises begin slightly later than usual as some maintenance from last night is rolled over. Your teammates have become better at the navigation exercises, to the point where it may not be worth doing them in the same terrain again without really spicing things up somehow.

“Hey Fritz?” Miho asks over the radio. “The match draw is this evening; will you be free to come?”

>“I think you should take Azusa instead.” She may not care for it too much, but it is Yuzu’s birthday.

“Really? You don’t want to come?” Miho looks very confused.

“It’s Yuzu’s birthday,” you explain. “She’d understand if duty called, but I’d rather not ditch her, you know? Even if she has friends around, it wouldn’t be right.”

“No, no, I understand,” Miho replies. “I’m sure Azusa will be thrilled to come anyway, so no harm done.”

“Thanks,” you reply, getting a wink and a thumbs up.

“So, what did you get her anyway?” Miho’s question is punctuated by Hana firing the gun, seemingly just to cause chaos amongst the manouvering tanks.

“I got her a full set of gardening tools,” you reply.

“From the shop that supplies the agriculture department?” Hana asks. “How did you get them to sell to you?”

“I just explained the situation,” you reply. “They felt honour bound to help me out.”

“They don’t even sell to me,” Hana complains. “And I’m the Student Council President!”

“What can I say? I have a way with words,” you reply, getting some scattered laughs.

“Regardless, they sell good quality tools,” Hana says. “They will serve Koyama well.”

“Well, that’s the hope.”

>Find out about the offer from the Museum from the history club after wishing Yuzu a happy birthday.

As practice ends, you weave your way through the tanks to where Turtle team is. Yuzu is just climbing out as you arrive, she’s covered in sweat and oil, but you ignore those and pull her in.

“Happy Birthday,” you say as she squeaks in surprise. “Didn’t think I’d forget, did you?”

“I didn’t think you knew,” she admits. “But thank you anyway.”

Anzu gives you a wink and a thumbs up from behind Yuzu.

“Are you free in the evening?” You ask. “I don’t know what we can do at short notice, but we can do something.”

>“Something? We can figure it out on the spot.”

“Spontaneous today, huh?” She giggles. “Sure, I’m leaving a little early to go home for a bit, but I’ll be back in the evening.”

“We can do that?” You ask. “I had no idea.”

“Ah,” she looks a little embarassed. “We can’t do that. You can’t do that. We can do that.” She gestures to herself and the student council behind her as she says that and it finally clicks.

“Ah, corruption,” you nod.

“Not that!” She huffs, slapping your chest and glaring at you. “It’s just that we know how the system works here, so we can nudge it in our favour.”

“I mean if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck…” you don’t finish the sentence as you spot the monstrous pout Yuzu’s sporting.

“We got a call from Yūshūkan, so I’m going to check what they said,” you say, changing subject.

“About the gold?” Anzu asks. “Make sure to get a good deal.”

“That’s the plan,” you reply, getting a nod back before turning to the still pouting Yuzu. “Love you, see you later!”

You depart the hangar and make your way to the house that the history buffs share. You knock on the door, and you’re quickly let in by Saemonza.

“So they called and gave an offer, did they?” You ask.

“No, they mailed us an offer, then called to let us know they mailed it,” she replies. “Very weird ze yo.”

“You can say that again,” you grunt as you head through to the main room. The rest of the history buffs are crowded around the table, and you kneel behind them as Caesar opens the letter.

You scan it as she reads it aloud. At first it seems rather normal – acknowledging the importance of what you’ve found, their desire to have it in their museum, their promise of compensation, but as you read the last bit, your eyes narrow.

“Did I read that right?” Erwin asks. “They want to hold onto it while we discuss terms?”

>“That doesn’t sound like good faith to me.”

>“That doesn’t sound like good faith to me.”

“You can say that again,” Oryou nods.

“With no bargaining power what can we do but accept their Diktat?” Erwin huffs.

“We could just ignore that and try talk to them otherwise?” You suggest.

“They’re the most important museum for the Second World War in Japan,” Saemonza warns. “We can’t just ignore them.”

“We can do that pretty easily in my opinion,” Erwin snarks.

>“I wonder if the British Museum is as presumptuous as this.”

“I mean we have their email somewhere,” Caesar replies. She reaches for a laptop and places it on the table in front of her. A few minutes of clicking later, she has the email open in front of her.

The lot of you read through it together. It has just about everything you’d expect – an acknowledgement of the importance of what you’ve found, an explanation of why they want it – apparently British troops fought there, and the Burma is of interest to them as part of the forgotten war in the east, as well as mentions of the influence of the museum itself in the historical and general world.

“Well, at least they’re not asking us to give it to them before we talk,” you hum as you read the email. “No mention of anything else.”

“At least they’re polite about it,” you hum, scanning it. “Not demanding we give it to them first.”

“They do have a point though,” Caesar points out. “Now that the secret’s out, the gold isn’t exactly safe sitting upstairs.”

“That’s what a bank is for,” Oryou points out. “A bank on a ship in the middle of the ocean seems pretty safe to me.”

“There’s also the fact that Yūshūkan has ties to anyone that’s anybody in the Japanese history world,” Saemonza points out. “We don’t want to snub them if we don’t have to.”

>“Let’s just reply to both, see what happens.”

A reply to Yushukan could include something like "we are entertaining multiple offers right now, so unfortunately until we are certain of who we decide on, it will have to stay with us." Not snubbing them, and letting them know they have competition, which will also soften the blow if we decide on not going with them much better than just ignoring them.

>“Let’s just reply to both, see what happens, but going forward I’d say we lean towards the British Museum since they’re not treating us like children.”

“Well, technically, we are children,” Erwin points out. A moment later she quails under the look everyone else is giving her. “What!? We are technically!”

“We’re also historians,” Caesar points out. “And only one of the museums is currently treating us as such.”

“So we’re agreed then?” You ask. “We’ll keep our options open for now?”

“And we won’t be handing anything over yet,” Oryou confirms with a nod.

“Not without an agreement first,” Caesar nods. “So, we’re all in agreement, right?”

There’s a round of yesses, from the rest of the history buffs confirming that. With that out of the way, replies are drafted to both, including casually letting Yūshūkan know more than one museum is interested.

With that done, you turn to the elephant in the room, or more accurately, the bars of gold.

>“Let’s get this stuff in a vault of some kind.”

“Yeah, let’s,” Caesar nods. “I’m almost a hundred percent sure that the bank should be open right now, so let’s deal with these.”

The bars are brought downstairs, and several backpacks emptied to put them in. You end up with more individually than anyone else in yours, and you’re a little concerned for the bag, but Oryou assures you it’s old so no will mind if it breaks.

Between the five of you, you walk into town and head to the bank. It’s not a particularly big building – maybe a couple storeys, and it’s not like there’s massive amounts of cash floating around on Ooarai. It does however have a vault, and Caesar already has a drawer. You’re just about able to squeeze everything and shut it with a bit of force.

With that done, you’re ready to go do ‘something’ with Yuzu, the question though, is what.

>Meet up with her first and figure it out.

You decided to just go find Yuzu first. Even if you don’t figure anything out, you will at least be hanging out with her.

You text her asking where she is, and she lets you know she’s on the way back. You therefore decide to meet her on her return and head for the usual disembarkation point. It takes you a moment to remember that the ship is at sea, meaning that no one will be getting on there, and to turn around to head back towards the warehouse where the aviation club has their helipads as well.

You reach the helipad in good time, and your wait isn’t too long. After a few minutes, you hear the thump of the helicopter rotors and after a couple more, you can see the helicopter above you.

It quickly lands, and as expected, Yuzu hops out.

“Hey,” you say as Yuzu comes down the ramp. She doesn’t look surprised to see you, and lets you wrap her up. “Happy Birthday. Again.”

“Mmm, how did you know?” She asks, looking up at you.

“It’s not hard information to find,” you shrug. “Class registers have everything about everyone.”

“Anzu or Momo told you, didn’t they?” She asks.

“I never said that,” you shrug and grin. “Is there a reason you don’t want anyone to know?”

“No! I’m not hiding anything! I just don’t publicise it,” she explains. You’re sure there’s a story behind that, but you decide not to push it for now.

>“What do you want to do?”

“Something simple,” she replies almost immediately. Yet again, you’re sure there’s a reason for that, but you ruthlessly squash that little bit of curiosity.

“How about dinner and a movie?” You offer. “Then you can come back to mine and I can give you your present? That sounds pretty simple to me.”

“Yes, yes it does,” Yuzu decides. “Let’s do it.”

You offer her your arm which she takes and the two of you make your way back into town. It is both early evenings, and a Wednesday, so the town isn’t very busy, but there’s still activity, and occasionally you bump into a person you know.

After a short walk, you reach a restaurant that you know is good.

“I brought you here first,” Yuzu observes as the two of you head in.

“And I’m bringing you here now,” you say. “Plus, that’s how I know it’s good quality.”

The two of you take seats at the counter, where the man behind it recognises Yuzu and happily engages her in conversation before taking your orders. You order the tank katsu curry, and Yuzu orders a bowl of ramen.

“So, how’d it go with your family?” You ask as you wait.

“Well,” she replies with a smile. “It was a bit of a revolving door with all my siblings coming and going but I have no complaints.”

“Well, you skipped school for it, so I’d hope so,” you snicker.

“Exams are done,” she says with a dramatic huff. “Besides I’ve earnt it.”

You don’t challenge that, laughing instead which earns you another dramatic huff. Your food arrives, and the two of you dig in. As usual, Yuzu steals part of your dish, then can’t finish her own, leaving you to clean up the rest of it. When you’re done eating, you head out to go find a movie to watch. Thankfully, the small cinema has several movies running soon.

>Pick a comedy.

“How about a comedy?” You ask. The cinema unfortunately has rather meagre offerings compared to one you might find on land, but you find something. A detective movie, in the vein of Sherlock Holmes that promises to be amusing, at least on the promotional material.

You pay for tickets, then the two of you make your way into the cinema, you go light on the snacks since you just ate, but you still grab popcorn, since you can’t watch a movie without it, and head in. You get a few minutes of advertising, but less than usual on a mainland cinema before the movie itself begins.

You very quickly realise, that it isn’t a very good movie. It’s funny, but not in the way it’s trying to be – the characters act like idiots, even though they’re meant to be some of the smartest people in the city. You do quickly find yourselves laughing at them and the absurdity of the movie though. At the very least you get your money’s worth in laughs, even if it’s not in the way the creator intended.

“We should’ve asked for our money back,” Yuzu muses, still giggling after the two of you take your leave.

“Well, we had fun, didn’t we?” You reply. “That’s worth paying a little bit for, isn’t it?”

“Bah, they cheated!” Yuzu replies, shaking her fist towards the cinema.

“And I’m sure they’ll get their comeuppance,” you reply, snickering at her antics. “Let’s head home.”

The two of you walk back, and your lights are on, signifying someone’s home. Erika, you expected, but Anzu, Momo, and Hana are also there.

>“A surprise party? Why wasn’t I invited?”

"Surprise! Yes, haha, I knew this was happening, people definitely communicated with me like they always do. We definitely won't just go to a love hotel or something in the future to spite people continuing to refuse to communicate with me."
Tempted by number 4 and 1, but that's not appropriate for a birthday party.

>Let it run its course, Anzu and Momo have known Yuzu far longer than you.

You just sigh and say nothing, looking over to Yuzu. At the very least, she seems happy to have some of her friends around for her birthday so you hold your tongue for her sake.

“We’re just here to hand over our presents,” Momo explains. “It is still a school night after all.”

“Of course, take your time,” you reply. “Make yourself at home.” They already have, you remind yourself, but at this this point there’s nothing you can really do about it.

You retreat to the kitchen and set about acquiring some snacks and drinks to feed your unexpected guests as they hand over thinks to her. Thankfully, Yuzu decides against opening them right now as that’d likely lead to further discussion of the presents beyond their dimensions and some thanks, which would keep them in your apartment even longer.

It takes an hour of chatter and present giving before most of your guests decide to take their leave. Apart from Erika.

“I basically live here!” She complains as you drag her out. “You can’t just kick me out!”

“I can and will,” you grunt back as you reach the door. “You can come back tomorrow.”

“Where will I go!?” She exclaims back.

“Your apartment,” you reply as you finally get her out the door. “If you get lost I’ll send you instructions.”

You close the door, and you can hear her huff and turn around instead of putting up anymore of a fight.

“Ah, we’re finally free,” you groans as you slide down the door.

“You don’t think you were a little harsh on her?” Yuzu asks as she sits down next to you by the door.

“I think I’m usually too soft on her,” you reply, getting a snicker from Yuzu.

>“Did you have fun?” That’s all that really matters.

>”I got you a present as well.”

“So I heard,” she replies with a smile. You push yourself up off the floor, and give her a hand to get up as well.

You lead her into the bedroom, where the box is sitting on your bed.

“It’s a set of tools to help you with Ikebana,” you say as you hand it to her.

“You’d mentioned having to borrow from Hana before, and you’ve been getting very into it, so I thought it might be helpful.”

“I…this is expensive gear,” Yuzu says.

“Lotta money from Henschel came our way while we were helping him with his ersatz-panzers,” you shrug. “It was no big thing.”

“Well, it is a big thing to me,” she says, putting down the box. Alarm bells briefly go off as you remember Anzu’s words about making it small, but Yuzu looks very happy with it and that’s confirmed when she wraps you up in a tight hug. “We should get to bed.”

“Let’s,” you reply.

Thursday 2nd November (Day 200)

You wake up next to Yuzu that morning, with Otto on top of you. As much as you’d love to lay in, Azusa and Miho will know by know who you’re facing, and you need to know that so you can figure out what best to do to prepare your team today and tomorrow.

Yuzu eventually also gets up, and after a quick breakfast, the two of you head to the warehouse. You’re quickly directed to the lounge area which has been turned into a strategy room again. Miho and Azusa are standing over the table, and you can see the members of the Isuzu student council milling about as well.

“We’re against Pravda,” Azusa says as you enter.

>“Any idea where we will be?”

“We have a map,” Azusa cheers. “We were able to snag it from one of the MEXT offices with a little bit of begging.”

She pulls out a case and unrolls the map. It quickly tries to reroll itself, but Miho places some wooden blocks used to represent tanks on the corners, helping to keep it down.

“Some big hills and some big fields,” you immediately observe.

“Big forests on the sides as well,” Miho nods.

“Uh, question,” Azusa begins. She quails slightly when both you and Miho look at her but takes a moment to steel herself, then asks it anyway. “Why is one forest a different colour to the rest?”

“The darker coloured one in the southeast is a lot denser,” Miho explains. “We might not be able to get heavy tanks or bigger medium tanks through it.”

“And the lighter one?”

“We probably could,” you reply. “But the usual problem with forests – lower visibility, trees getting in the way of guns – you know the score.”

“But you can get a heavy tank through it?”

“You could,” you nod. “Might be a bit of a mission though, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t be possible.”

“Okay, thank you!” You wave off her thanks and focus back on the map. “So Pravda – lots of tanks, and lots of hills. It’s a shame the fields aren’t inside the hills.”

“Thinking of putting that new toy to use?” Miho teases.

“Damn right I am,” you huff.

>“Land nav won’t be much use in fields like this, I think we should get on target practice.”
>“We might want to push people through those forests, so I think we should keep up our navigation exercises.”

I disagree that land nav wouldn't be useful, but now that we know who we're facing, we should get to target practice on russian tanks.
>Get Yukari to give a crash course to the club on heavily armored russian tanks
>See how it’s going with the museums.

What's that yellow ground in the bottom center? Are there trees on the center hills, or are those differences in green just indicating elevation? Are the red lines roads? How substantial is the river?

A depression i.e. slightly lower ground than average

No real trees on the hills in the centre, those are just there to denote elevation, yes, not fordable without a tank that can be equipped to snorkel.

>"I think we should get on target practice.”

“Agreed,” Miho nods. “It’s been a while since we’ve fought any Russian tanks, so people might be rusty. You get on that, and I’ll arrange a quick refresher from Yukari.”

“Sure thing boss,” you reply. “You need Azusa for anything?”

“She’s all yours,” Miho replies. You jerk your head towards the door, and Azusa follows.

“What are we going to be doing, Commander?” Azusa asks as she jogs over to you.

“We’re going to go through the targets the art club made for us,” you explain. The two of you make your way to the storage area at the back where they’ve all been piled.

The two of you sort through them. Without any instructions, the art club has created a bit of everything, and after some digging, you’re able to find plenty of T-34s and various ISs ready made. After that, it’s a simple matter of strapping them to the back of one of the Carro Veloces and heading out to set them up on the range. It’s a quick job between the two of you, and by the time you finish, the first of your teammates are rumbling out to get practicing.

It goes well. Occasionally you hear Yukari call out a correction or not a weak point on the tanks, but for the most part everyone seems to know what they’re doing. The massive bullseyes painted on the targets seems to help in that regard.

>See how it’s going with the museums.

At lunch, you find the history club in the cafeteria again.

“Hey girls, any updates?” You ask as you take a seat with them.

“The British Museum and Yūshūkan want to meet this weekend,” Oryou says. “The Kure Maritime Museum also expressed interest, same sorta message as the British Museum.”

>“Should we meet them in Ooarai?” That’s relatively neutral ground.

“Why not bring them here?” Erwin asks. “Less work for us, and they’re the ones sniffing around.”

“As true as that is, it won’t look like we’re being pricks if we go to Ooarai, neutral ground for a parley and all that,” you explain.

“Even if Ooarai is our homeport?” Erwin asks.

“Well, it’s closer to neutral than dragging them out to sea,” you reply. “Plus, we’re not telling them where the gold is – if we have the meeting there, it could be anywhere in the city.”

“Fine, that sounds good to me,” Erwin says. The rest of the History Club has no complaints so that’s the plan you go with.

“How’s the afternoon on Sunday?” Caesar offers. “We have the match on Saturday so we should be free.”

“Sounds fine to me,” you reply. “Will any of them even be able to see us that early though?”

“The Japanese museums probably,” Saemonza says. “Though the British Museum..”

“We might be waiting a little while for them, got it,” you nod. “Anyone have any objections to that?”

No one does, so you get the emails sent and finish your lunch.

After school, you head to the warehouse as usual. Now that you have an enemy and have a map, your team’s training can be focused better, instead of just doing the general stuff to stay sharp. It’s coming along well. As far as you can tell most of the rust that comes with taking a week off is gone – if there was any to begin with – and the Ooarai fighting machine is shifting back into gear.

>Check Pravda’s social media – see if there are any developments that might change things.

You decide to put what little intel gathering skills you have to work and go about collecting some open-source intelligence.

You head to the lounge turned strategy room, take a seat at one of the tables, and get to work. Pravda has a big and successful tankery club, and is well documented, both by their own efforts and by outside ones, making your job sifting through piles of information rather than looking for the information in the first place. It’s longer than it is hard, and you solely work your way through the articles from most recent to least recent, sorting them into either being relevant to their tank strength and how they operate, or other puff pieces that are effectively useless.

Eventually, you have a stack of useful articles printed out to go through. You dart into the warehouse and grab the first crew that isn’t doing anything to help you out, which happens to be Anteater team and put them to work sifting through the documents. After about half an hour of it, you finally get some useful information.

“It uh, says here they had rust problems with some of their bigger tanks,” Nekota eventually surmises. “It was only a couple of weeks ago, so I don’t know if they’ll have had time to fix it, nya..”

“Piyo, there’s also been news about exchanging older model T-34s for T-34/85s,” Piyotan adds. “We might be expecting a lot more of them.”

>Get to investigating this ghost tank.

You’re not able to find much more than that in the time you have in the evening, so after thanking them, you let them go for the evening. Instead you turn your attention back to that ghost tank that still needs investigating.

>Head out to where it was first spotted, see if you can find any more clues.

You decide to head back out to the forest to have another look around to see if you can figure out where the ghost tank came from. You climb into one of the Carro Veloces and get moving into the forest. It’s dark, but Anzio saw fit to attach some headlights to them, so you’re able to make your way slowly through the woods towards the rough location the ghost tank was spotted.

You soon reach where Rabbit team first spotted them and climb out. You have a map with all the sightings on it, and slowly begin walking your way between them. As you do, you slowly collect bits and pieces of the story. Literally in most cases.

There’s a lot of coloured material. At first you wonder whether someone just decided to come out here to dumb rubbish, but you soon realise that it’s the same kind of backing used for the targets you use – the kind that won’t shatter on impact and instead let the shell pass right through.

As you walk, you also start finding bits of electronics – remnants of the little explosives planted to simulate the tank shells no doubt, but you also find stuff that wouldn’t come from those, including an antenna, and what looks suspiciously like part of a rubber track pad, though it’s too damaged to confirm.

You don’t find much more than that, and by the time you reach the last sighting location, it’s also getting very cold, so you quickly make your way back to the relative warmth of the CV and start making your way back to the warehouse.

>Take the clues to someone who might be able to help you (Who)
I don't know who might have access to electronics or computers outside of the gaming club maybe, but they're a team, so it would be weird for them to pull this. Outside them, there's the same material used for targets, so maybe the art club is involved. While it wouldn't hurt to talk to them, I think we can get a better picture for who could have done this by asking Yuzu (and other former/current Student Council members) who would have access to these materials and motivation to prank/spite us. Asking Yuzu first for an excuse to talk to her some more and give her an opportunity to be smart.

>Take the clues to someone who might be able to help you (Former and current student council)

You slowly weave your way through the trees back to the warehouse. It’s empty by now, and Miho locked it behind her, but you use your own keys to open the door and guide the CV in next to its sister tank. You lock the warehouse behind you as you leave, then take a moment to think about who can help you out with your investigation. You quickly settle on the Student Council members, both current and former, since they’d know more about who would be able to make things like the ghost tank.

You make your way to the island where the Student Council office is, texting Yuzu as you do to let her know what you’ve found. She’s apparently already in the council office helping with the transition, so you save yourself having to type everything out and head up.

“Good to see you, Fritz,” Hana greets you as you enter. “I hear you’ve found out more about this ghost tank?” She’s sitting in what was once Anzu’s chair. Yuzu seems to be helping Yukari and Saori with paperwork in the sofa area so you walk over and take the seat next to Yuzu.

“I sure have,” you reply. “I found bits of backing that are made from the same material that the art club uses to make our targets, and these bits of electronics and rubber.”

You pass them out to the assembled council members who cast a critical eye on them.

“Doesn’t this look like that little care thing?” Yuzu begins, gesturing to the rubber and electronics.

“Parts from that little RC vehicle the automotive club made,” Hana nods. “I see it now that you mention it.”

“I suppose we have to ask them,” Hana sighs, visibly deflating at having to wait to find out. “What a pity.”

“No, we don’t,” Yuzu replies as she gets up and walks over to Yukari’s desk – her old desk. She takes a seat and gets tapping away on the computer there. “Most clubs chose to record any borrowing or deals with the Student Council, so if something goes wrong, they could come to us.”

Yuzu taps a way for a few moments more, before with a final triumphant tap of the enter key, she finds what she was looking for. “Last year, they sold it to the film club.”

“Good find,” you reply, getting a wink and a thumbs up. “I guess that settles it, it was most likely the film club, possibly with the art club being complicit.”

“But why would they do it?” Saori asks.

“A prank?” Yukari offers. “Rabbit team’s reaction was pretty funny!”

“Were there not also elements that disliked our club?” Hana hums.

“I doubt it, but even then, I don’t think it was particularly malicious,” you reply. “Explosions wouldn’t have done more than scratch the paint.”

“Most curious,” Hana says. “Do let us know what you find out, will you?”

“Sure thing, Prez.”

Friday 3rd November (Day 201)

That morning when you walk into the warehouse, you have the stack of papers from yesterday printed out with you. Miho’s face drops slightly when she sees them, but she quickly steels herself and begins scanning the information.

“Pravda’s problem with tank maintenance is nothing new,” she says as she reads the article highlighting the rust issue. “But the fact that it’s been highlighted…”

“Means it may have become worse,” you finish. “What do you think are the chances of them throwing thirty T-34/85s at us?”

“Looking to play eastern front simulator?” Miho quips. “They’re going to have heavy tanks, though, even if it’s only a few, and they’re going to have numbers anyway. Firing drills and training with smoke grenades, that’s what I think.”

“Whittling the numbers down quickly and making sure we can’t be hit back?” You ask.

“Exactly.”

“I’m not surprised,” Miho smiles as you say that. “Let’s get everyone out to the range then.”

“Aye, let’s,” you leave the papers on the table and head out of the lounge into the warehouse. “Everyone! Let’s get ourselves to the range!”

They were already moving since they knew they were heading out today, but with a destination in mind, they begin moving faster. Engines soon start, and Rabbit team rumbles out into the lead with the rest of the tanks following behind them. Werewolf is one of the last tanks to leave, and you trundle at the rear of the column over to the range. By the time you’ve made it, tanks from the front of the column are already having a go at the targets. Not the ones the art club made for you – there’s too few of those to waste on speed training – rather they’re shooting at big bags of sand with bullseyes plastered on them. Not the best analogy for tanks, but for regular firing drills, they’re good enough.

You spend all of morning practice there, blasting away at the targets. There isn’t enough space for all fifteen tanks, so you go in groups of five, taking turns to blast away as much as you can for a few minutes before rotating out to let the next group have a blast.

Eventually though, ammunition starts to run dry, so Miho leads the column back to the warehouse.

At lunch, you decide to pay the film club a visit since they’re the next lead, and possibly your final stop, when it comes to the ghost tank. You head to their clubhouse, and as usual enter without knocking. The entire club looks to be hard at work, and you quickly spot the three leaders.

At lunch, you decide to pay the art club a visit. The art classroom/hangout is busier than last time you visited, likely because of the injection of cash into the starved club, courtesy of the Sensha-Do club. “Hey girls,” you greet them as you stride into the room. “That’s a big drawing.”

Mel looks over, realises it’s you, and scowls. “For someone like you.”

“Mel!” Yoshi hisses, elbowing her friend before turning to you. “Yeah! It is, isn’t it? We wanted to do something big before we left, so we decided on this! Pretty cool, huh?”

“It is,” you admit freely as you meander through the room. You path generally towards the where you can see the templates for gunnery being made. “How did you get such a good view?”

“A combination of going up the island and bugging the aviation club to take us up,” she replies as you subtly examine the templates. They’re mostly the ones you received, but some you’re unfamiliar with, and a few don’t look like tanks at all.

“I heard the aviation club is pretty stingy at times,” you say conversationally.

“Well you heard right,” Mel sighs. “They don’t do anything for free - unless you’re the Sensha-Do club.”

“We founded them,” you shrug as you examine one of the unfamiliar templates. It’s not a tank, but it looks suspiciously like part of one. “How did you afford it then?”

“Well, being commissioned by you guys opened other clubs’ minds to it!” Yoshi cheers. "A lot of other clubs have been asking us about stuff to! We actually had to turn some away!"

"Really? Like who?" You ask.

“Ey? Well, whatever they needed us to do I guess,” Yoshi replies. “We have a couple of people who are good at graphic design, so when the Automotive Club came to us for help with that, we were able to lend a hand.”

“They needed to 3D print something,” Mel adds. “We adjusted the design for them.”

“Right, that!” Yoshi nods. “For the aviation club we did some nose art designs for them, and I think they’re picking from them now, then we’ll paint them up.”

“They’ve been deliberating for ages,” Mel groans, her head thunking against the wall. “I hope they decide what they want before I die of old age.”

“The film club have been a lot better though,” Yoshi giggles at her friend’s distress. “They asked for help with a moveable prop since you guys were too busy preparing for the tournament to lend them any.”

You’re about to reply that they never asked, but you hold your tongue and just hum your agreement. They don’t seem to be on edge at all, so that confirms their lack of involvement in the horrible prank that befell your team. You stay for a little longer chatting mainly to Yoshi before excusing yourself just before lunch ends.

You walk into practice that evening armed with the knowledge that the film club is likely entirely responsible for the prank. Nevertheless, with a match tomorrow, there’s not much that you can do now, so you turn your attention back to how best to win the tournament and the match.

Of course, to win the tournament, you need tanks. More specifically, you need tanks that will continue to function throughout the match. You cast a baleful eye at Werewolf for a moment before sighing. It’s not his fault that there were a few engine problems in the Unlimited Class, and ultimately, they were just bad luck – unavoidable. What you can do however is minimise the avoidable breakdowns, and you know that Miho is rather proud of how few breakdowns your team has had.

“Maintenance time everyone!” You announce as you walk in. There are groans from those that aren’t already doing it, but Miho quickly chimes in.

“He’s right! All the training in the world is useless if your tank breaks down on the way to the fight!”

Most people were already moving to get to work, but Miho’s reminder prompts the rest to get to it as well. You also turn your attention to maintenance. With a tank like Werewolf, there’s always work to be done, particularly on the interleaving roadwheels.

“Working on the wheels?” You ask Max and Axel as you walk over. The two of then are hunched over the front of Werewolf’s left track.

“Unfortunately,” Max grumbles, getting a sagely nod from Axel. “Sometimes I think about saying fuck it ‘nd replacin’ the entire thing with a normal wheel system. Save us the trouble.”
“And make the ride even worse? No thank you,” you chuckle. “Besides I’m sure Werewolf would kill you.”

A feeling of casual agreement rolls through you, and you can’t tell whether Werewolf is joking or not. You decide not to say anything and instead help Max with the road wheels, so he doesn’t get any ideas.

>Take what you’ve found to the Council (Former and Current).

Thankfully, neither you nor any of your teammates have been slacking on maintenance, making your task today a relatively easy one. Relative being the key word, there isn’t too much for you to do – the engine is in as good a shape as it will get, and there are no horrible cracks that need to be dealt with, but other routine tasks must be done by both yourself and the rest of the Sensha-Do team.

By the end of it, everyone is hot, sweaty, and tired, but before Anglerfish team can leave, you stop them at the door.

“We need to talk,” you huff at Hana as you reach them. “I know who did it.”

“The prank?” She asks, which you nod an affirmative to.

“Yeah, I was thinking I could brief you and the old student council,” you reply.

“We shall use the lounge then,” Hana decides. Saori and Yukari are already moving, but she turns to Mako and Miho. “You two are obviously welcome as well.” The five of them make their way to the lounge, and you quickly intercept Turtle team before they can leave and direct them there as well. Once everyone is in, you quickly explain what you’ve learnt – the Film club got an RC car from the automotive club and contracted out the film club to make the tank ostensibly as a prop for a movie.

“That only leaves the matter of what to do about it,” you finish.

“Well, no one got hurt so I don’t think we could do much officially,” Hana says.

“We could get them a stern telling off!” Saori declares. “I chipped a nail because of them, you know!”

“Or you could prank them back,” Anzu says. “They started this, so we can retaliate. It’s school rules.”

“It is?” Miho asks, very confused.

“We put it in during our first months on the Student Council,” Yuzu says guiltily. “We wanted to see how far we could go and we never got around to repealing it.”

“Oh dear,” Hana says, hiding a smile with her hand. “I guess we know what the first rule change we have to make is.”

“Well I think it’s obvious we have to do something,” you say. “They attacked us. The Sensha-Do club, and think they can get away with it? I think not!”

“Attacked is a pretty strong word…” Miho replies, but Saori is already baying for blood and Yukari’s excited for action as well.

“What do you three think?” You ask, turning to the ex-council sat nearby.

“I think the film club are due their comeuppance,” Momo states.

“That’s an understatement,” Yuzu giggles.

“Oh, that sounds like a juicy story,” Saori chips in.

“The film club are not very persuasive, but believe that they are,” Anzu states, far more diplomatically than she usually does. “We have to had to deal with them a lot.”

“So, you won’t object to us going after them?” You ask. Anzu doesn’t bother replying to that, waving her hand effectively telling you do what you want. You reckon you can rely on Yuzu and Momo to help you out though.

>"I also think there should be a rule change after we rightfully strike back, of course."

“Well, that rule needs to be struck off the books as soon as possible,” Hana replies, glancing towards the ex-council. Yuzu and Momo at least have the good grace to look embarassed, but Anzu shrugs unrepentantly.

“We had to know what we could and couldn’t do,” she says.

“Regardless, the rule needs to go, but I’m sure the process can be delayed a bit,” Hana sighs. “Not too long though.”

“I get the message,” you confirm. “Soon as this match is over with it’s time for work.”

“Good,” Hana nods, satisfied with that. “We shall leave you to it on behalf of the club.”

“And if we need Student Council help?”

“The Council should be above such things,” Hana replies. You see the three ex-council members share a discreet look at that.

Saturday 4th November (Day 202)

That morning, you’re awoken even earlier than usual by your alarm clock. Otto, a cat that dislikes even the usual routine is not happy, and promptly dashes out of the room to find somewhere quiet to rest.

You wack the alarm as has become routine and after feeding yourself and Otto, make your way down to the warehouse where preparations are slowly beginning already.

You quickly spot Miho. She’s armed with a clipboard and slowly working her way through the things necessary to get fifteen tanks transported on time to the match field.

>Take a helicopter ahead of the rest of the team to see the field early.

“Miho,” you greet her as you walk over. “I was thinking of taking a helicopter to have a look at the field properly before we fight on it.”

“That sounds like a good idea,” Miho hums as she scratches something on the clipboard. “Take Azusa with you. Erwin can fly the helicopters, right?”

“She can,” you confirm.

“Take her as well, the more people having a look the better,” Miho says. “One of the aviation club members can come with you to fly it back.”

“Sounds like a plan,” you nod. Miho gets back to her work, and you turn about face and head for the aviation club. They don’t have any pilots or helicopters technically spare, but since the Sensha-Do club technically owns their helicopters you’re able to persuade them to rearrange some things and make them available.

Erwin arrives first, and you swoop in to steal her away from her crew and point her at the helicopter being wheeled out of the hangar. A moment later, Azusa also appears, and she is similarly kidnapped. You’re already in the air before you finally get a chance to explain to the both of them why they were kidnapped.

While it is going to be a rather long trip for your compatriots on the ground, by helicopter you’re over the field quickly.
>Have the pilots put you down after a quick pass so they can go and grab Miho so she can look around.
>Stay in the air and look around as long as you can before the helicopter has to go back.
>Have yourselves dropped off in a specific location you’re interested in.

I don't have any ideas for anything in particular to investigate, but I'd probably support something someone else comes up with. Otherwise I'd rather not distract Miho from planning/organizing the team.

Gentlemen.

Unfortunately the university work irl has built to the point that I can't both run this quest to the standard I'd like and complete the work I have to.

We're going to pause here for now. My disertation is finished on the 22nd of April so hopefully we'll be back the weekend after.

Thanks again gents, and you can vote for this thread here.

Incredible, I wonder how Fritz shoots that MG with all the gear in the way. And did I miss something or since when did Erika read? She doesn't strike me as the type.

Gamer magic, who knows? As for Erika reading, I just gave the characters and Werewolf to the artist and told him to do what he saw fit. I''d agree with you on that, but I'm still rather chuffed with the outcome.

All done! New thread on the weekend or sometime next week!
