/qst/ - Quests

Your name is Lan Wi, and you are a Daoist Immortal.

For over a millennia, you've cultivated more and more power. Using special training techniques, you've gathered more and more chi, the life force in all living things, to increase your lifespan and power- all with the goal of becoming a true immortal! Throughout your training, you've achieved many breakthroughs. You've gone through the Foundation Stage, the Meridian Opening Stage, the Liquid Qi stage- and then the Core Formation stage, in which you successfully created inside yourself a flawless golden core. After this, you also had to create your own Nascent Soul, and then learn the Soul-Severing techniques, before absorbing a massive amount of spiritual power and becoming an Immortal after an almost cataclysmic divine tribulation.

But all of that is over now. You are embarrassed to think of where you began this journey; as a puny farmer peasant, to whom would be easily slain by a bandit with a rusted sword or a fire-breathing donkey beast. You've learned to fight since then with supreme martial arts techniques, to cast spells and master the elements. You've fought many arrogant young masters, who courted death by insulting and antagonizing you. Alchemy and medicines helped you get this far, and you've learned an extensive knowledge of them, and have your own little garden. You've plundered many ancient tombs and stolen many magical treasures- and you've had quite enough of peerless jade-like beauties at this point in your life- more trouble then they're worth.

You've become an Immortal. As an Immortal, you cannot die- both from age or disease. You can be killed, physically, but your spirit will return. Even if your body is destroyed or trapped in some desolate prison, you can reform yourself back in a safe place if given enough time.

Despite everything you have done so far... you never much considered what to do once you actually made it to this point. You've endlessly cultivated to avoid death, or to gain power over your rivals, but now you are here and you still do not see Mt Tai. You thought something would change, but it seems like there is no true end to cultivation. You have merely reached yet another peak.

Maybe you should ask someone you know for advice?

I choose demon

You have decided to turn to a Demon Lord sealed away in a special urn. You know him quite well- after all, you're the one who put him in there.

The Demon Lord was once a great threat to the realms, only finally trapped by your own might. The battle took up all of your energy and nearly killed you; you had to learn a very special technique, the Evil-Sealing Palm, from an ancient Buddha in order to force the demon into the urn. Of course, that was a long time ago before you became an immortal. While you're sure that you could defeat the demon again if released, you know the second he leaves the urn he will disappear into a far off, unmapped hell realm in order to regain his strength and cause more suffering on the world; including getting revenge on you.

Of course, despite his malevolence, he's been a constant source of companionship. This urn he is trapped within blocks his power and magic, and also prevents him from telling lies. He is also very old and powerful, thus having a huge library of knowledge in the cultivation world- especially in the spiritual and divine levels of cultivation. He's long given up trying to trick you into opening the urn again- and knows that displeasing you will only result in you locking him in a storage chamber for another century or so of absolute boredom. Better to play along.

"Hello, One-Thousand Eyed Devil King of Yellow Hell and Fiery Darkness." You say, casually.

"Hello, Lan Wi." He says, deferentially.

You explain your predicament to the trapped devil, that you feel as though you've finally accomplished your goal of immortality, and yet have no real guidance on what to do next. You have reached a peak in your cultivation, the highest one yet, but yet you know there must be yet another limit to strive for.

"When you cultivated a golden core, you became a being that feasted off of spiritual essence instead of chi. Now that you have reached the peak of the spiritual realm of cultivation, it may mean that you must become another creature entirely..."

"Do you mean sacrificing my humanity? Only a devil would be so comfortable in suggesting that."

"Of course not, oh venerated Lan Wi. I am referring to purpose. You were once a human, seeking immortality. Now that you are not a human, but an immortal, then you must find a new purpose- but in the same way the frog at the bottom of the well cannot see Mount Tai, your human self could not see the next peak of cultivation until you reached the peak of humanity- your immortal self."
>>
The devil's glib tongue has given you an insight; You take into considering your newfound need for a goal and driving purpose. For the longest time, you fought and trained and worked hard to achieve the power and rank of Immortal for your own safety and happiness. But now, you are there and your goals must shift to match; just as the Demon King suggested.

Once, you cultivated chi, then you cultivated spiritual energy. You could still cultivate your spiritual energy or chi now but, at your current level, it would be almost no practical gain. Essentially adding a few droplets of power to a raging ocean- to gain power directly through more cultivation would be both difficult if not impossible- trying too hard to do so may even result in qi deviation; overtraining and stressing your body.

Instead, you must find another method of gaining power not directly related to energy cultivation. From this, you determine four possible paths.

The first is to hone your fighting techniques to unparalleled levels. Not just mastering the techniques of others, but creating your own as well. You know that powerful immortals sometimes do battle in great, earth-shaking tournaments in the courtyard of the Jade Emperor's palace; winning against every other immortal in the realm would cement your place as the greatest immortal warrior.

The second would be to gain temporal and political power. Normally the cultivation world and the political worlds are kept totally separate; but there is politics among the cultivators and immortals... in this case, oepning your own sect. Doing so would require gathering recruits and gaining land with which to house your sect; but would allow you to lead and gain power through others.

The third would be to find power in the creation or empowerment of magical artifacts. No cultivator is complete without their magic items, and you have many yourself; but finding the true potential of each item may be more rewarding them simply training your body yourself. At your level of spiritual authority- it may be possible to “enter” into magic items and bend them to your whims; potentially opening up new avenues of power.

The fourth and final would be to explore the yet unknown reaches of the cosmos and the heavens- which could contain powerful new energies or lands open to push you through this confounding bottelneck.

You decide to leave the normal realm- at least for now. You use your powers of flight- something you possessed since you cultivated a golden core, and fly up. You go up and up, over the lands, until the huge kingdoms and river valleys become tiny specks.

This land, known as Zhonggou, stretches onwards in all directions seemingly forever- nobody has ever mapped the entire world. It is where you have lived since before you began your journey of cultivation. While being huge, it is populated by many warring factions, powerful monsters, and much territory is controlled by cultivator sects- perhaps entering the heavens and getting away from it all may be a welcome diversion.

Once you enter the skies, you step on the clouds and find you can walk on them. This is the land of the Heavens, directly above the mortal world. It is divided into four kingdoms; the golden skies of morning, red skies of dusk, bright skies of day, and black skies of twilight. You feel the air here is heavy with spiritual power- cultivation for someone who is not yet at the peek would be strong here. But since you are at the peek, it is like placing a fish from a pond into the ocean. You feel as though there may be more; but you cannot just "fly higher" at this point. You need to accumulate to yours surroundings first.

For your journey into places unexplored, you'd like to keep a useful magic item with you. As a collector of many; you have magically enchanted them so you can pull them out of your sleeve at any time or place. What would be a useful item to take out here?

Reaching into your billowing sleeve, you can call upon any magical item you own to your grasp with your powerful magic- in this case, your most treasured magic weapon.

The Jade Flying Sword is a sacred sword made of unbreakable jade of peerless sharpness. As a flying sword, it can move on its own accord and you do not even need to hold it to use it as a weapon; with your martial skill you can simply will the sword to fly and destroy any enemy you wish. The sword can cut down swarms of lesser foes or assassinate targets miles away- but naturally it feels most comfortable on your waist. Pulling and sheathing the jade sword, you find the straightest and most narrow patch of cloud you can, which looks like a road, and begin to travel along it.

Up here, the air smells incredibly clean. There is no running water, but indeed simply reaching your hand out you can collect highly pure and prized spiritual dew from the clouds themselves. There are no animals, plants, or insects- just the endless stretching beauty of the Heavens and the light of the sun and stars above. Truly the Gods themselves must reside in such a beautiful and peaceful place.

Along the path; you meet a man. He is kneeling by the side of the "road" and wearing simple robes. He does not appear as a cultivator; his dress is too simple and humble for that, and from his aura you sense no killing intent- but great power in another way. Could this be a Buddha?

You decide to ignore the Buddha. While the thought of engaging him in debate and of proving the superiority of the Dao over his belief, you decide against it. You give him a nod instead and pass on through the heavenly realms.

As you go; you feel the subtle forces of will and creation nibbling on your fingertips, like many small fish. Such divine powers are beyond a base level immortal like yourself, but it seems like an unreachable gap; though only here, in the heavenly realms, can you feel such powers so closely. As though you are in control; you gently feel out with your hands, as though forcing something or someone to come towards you...

And just about then, a giant lung dragon barely avoids crashing into you. From his claws, a black cloud unfurls on the "ground" of clouds beneath you, spilling a gentle rain over the valley far below- instead of the mighty hailstorm the dragon was creating.

"Foolish human!" The dragon bellows angrily. "You insult my work by trespassing here- I am far behind schedule now! What do you have to say for yourself?!"

While the dragon's words burn you on the inside, you remain as calm as an ocean on the surface.

"I am no mere human, storm spirit."

The dragon roars in anger when you refuse to venerate it, and begins to fly towards you. You draw your Jadeblade with a motion and flick of your robe, before the sword begins to fly and attack the dragon, as though with a mind of its own. The dragon dodges and parries the sword's blows with its razor sharp tail and claws; this only shows its great strength, as any lesser creature would have already been shredded at this point. The dragon is truly a powerful foe; normal people and those beneath the Soul-Severing stage cannot even raise their hands against you without collapsing in pain. If you focused your killing intent, you could slay a lesser mortal. But this dragon is still no match for a proper immortal.

The dragon flies back around towards you and rears its head to unleash a powerful blast of breath- a lighting storm emits from its mouth towards you. Drawing in your own breath, you visualize the magical rune for "net" and draw your hands forward, controlling the lightning spit by the dragon into your hands. It flows into your fist, and you strike true against the dragon's muzzle.

The resulting blow emits a loud thunderclap, and the mountains blow away one li in every direction. The dragon falls down and strikes a hillside with enough force to crater it in.

You float down majestically to the dragon, your flying sword floating back into your sheathe without a word. The dragon, dazed and battered, is no longer putting up a fight.

"You truly are an immortal! Spare my life, and I will gift you something of great value-"

"I mostly seek knowledge, sky-spirit."

"Then that to, but a peace offering as well. What do you want?"

"I need no physical reward from you- but you will serve me instead. I may have need of your strength and abilities up above."

"...Mhph. You drive a hard bargain, proud immortal."

"If you'd prefer to reward me with your human form instead, that could also be arranged."

"Eeeeh!? How do you know about my mismatched human form? My Yin and Yang essences are split between my forms- you can't tell anyone!"

"Hehe, I can just sense such things, sky dragon. Take me back up the heavenly realms. There is something there I am still seeking..."

With your newfound ride in tow, you manage to ascend back to the heavens. From there, you question the dragon on your predicament.

"...You have cultivated to become one with spiritual energy- the energies of immortality and the divine gods. But in the same way you came to the peak of chi, you have come to the peak of spiritual energy."

"Precisely. I have reached a bottleneck I am not sure how to go past."

"Well then- if you wish to cultivate an even higher state of being, you'd have to go further beyond the heavens- to the cosmic realms."

"I have never heard of such a place."

"The cosmic realms exist above the heavens- they are abstract and very dangerous. The heavens and the Gods in a sense act as a great "wall" that protects the mortal realms and the cycle of life and death from the chaos beyond."

From what this dragon tells you, you seem to now know a physical realm that could be your next stepping stone to cultivation. However, going to such a place, even with your power, would be very dangerous. There are no sects or martial arts manuals made for it- it is something wholly new. Using your cultivation knowledge, you think of a few possible methods with which to break into these "cosmic" realms...

You drive your dragon steed around the heavenly realms for a moment- long enough to find a very high point. Here, you feel the air is chilled with some kind of unusual sensation. The spiritual light and energy that exists everywhere within the heavens is weaker here- because another energy is present. You dismiss the dragon for now, but keep a whisker of its hair to summon it back to you at a later time. Just in case you do find out some new discovery, you'd like to make it a secret- a common trait among all cultivators who make it as far as you- a developed sensation of paranoia.

Here in this patch of clouds, you can feel the pull of some otherworldly energy. Not quite the same as chi or spiritual energy- something else. It's a bit exciting, but also inspiring. Sitting cross legged in the lotus position, you open your body to the energies around you. Being able to sense and control energies of all kinds is second nature to you- after all, you had to master the skill to even forge your flawless golden core...

In the mortal realm, its primary energy was chi, and it came in the form of living things. Plants, water, animals, and so on. In the spiritual realm, energy comes in a different form; feelings and strange streams of glowing lights. However, the two realms bleed together sometimes- so from a special mountain peak in Zhonggou one could feel a tiny sliver of spiritual energy, which is abundant in the heavens above. In the same way, whatever 'cosmic' realm is above the heavens, there should also be some bleed through of this higher energy as well...

Eventually, you sense it. Pulling on this energy and attempting to draw it into yourself, you find it difficult. Chi can be drawn in through the breath, and spiritual energy in through the chakra and lotus points- but this cosmic energy is something else. You concentrate and eventually find a way to draw it into yourself; this time through pure mental rigor and imagination. You open yourself up to impossible shapes, illogical ideas, and expressions of pure chaos and dreams. While to you time passes by in a flash, it has actually been over a hundred years of intense cosmic energy cultivation.

However, you are interrupted from your revere by none other then the Buddha on the road, from before! There are several heavenly beings following him; including bodhisattvas, heavenly elephants, scholars, and immortals belonging to the celestial bureaucracy.

"My child- I am so sorry to interrupt your meditations, but I couldn't help but notice what you were doing. If your meditations were for spiritual enlightenment it would be one thing but- it seems you were attempting to cultivate a higher level of power in the heavenly realms? We prefer such conflict to stay in the mortal realm- growing wisdom and compassion are far greater uses of time even for an immortal such as yourself."

"Oh, errm, I..."
>>
Uh oh. While the Buddha and his followers won't try to stop you from cultivating directly- not because they aren't powerful but because they are not violent at all- the truth is that denying the Buddha, who are wise and powerful and demanding of respect would make you lose considerable face!

It is a well known fact that heaven defies and sometimes even sends tribulations for cultivators- arrogance, pride, and greed are all things that heaven likes to punish people for- and every cultivator has all of these in spades. Including you, despite the fact you like to think you're pretty level headed...

You could also choose to simply ignore the Buddha, maybe pretend you don't hear him. Or run off and do it somewhere else when nobody is watching- but getting caught doing secret cultivation against this simple, humble request would cause you to lose even more face.

How are you going to handle this?

You get up from your lotus position, and nod respectfully to the Buddha.

"Oh of course, wise master. I will simply take my leave and cultivate out of the heavenly realms then."

The Buddha looks taken aback, and gives a weak smile. You knew what he meant- he wanted you to not attempt to cultivate at all and focus on wisdom and to escape the cycle of desire- but you managed to trick him up through his words. You have managed to overcome the situation without losing any face at all, indeed, the Buddha may have just lost some face from you obeying his request so graciously.

However, now you have a new problem. Ascending to the cosmic realms isn't easy; the heavenly realms are many hundreds of li upwards- the cosmic realms must be even further beyond. You prepare for an expedition by taking a sack of spirit stones, full of energy, sacred medicines, a few Emperor-Tier medical pastes, and some other magical treasures. Calling your dragon companion and using the powers of flight, you travel upwards as fast and hard as you can. Past the clouds and skies, past the deepest nights- you end up in a realm of pure darkness, with the world barely a dim light far beneath you. You are now within the cosmic realms.

This realm is cold and seemingly very dangerous. While your immortal self is at no fear of death, being crippled or deprived of chi or spiritual energy could weaken you or stunt your cultivation process significantly. However, you find a small dark stone platform to sit on and resume your meditation.

Unlike before, you have a stronger grasp on the strange and alien cosmic energy. You can feel it all around you, but unlike chi or spiritual energy, it does not flow as easily. You have to intentionally pull it towards yourself. Eventually, over another few centuries of peaceful sitting and meditation, you manage to concentrate enough cosmic energy into your body that you can feel its effects permanently empowering and refining you.

While chi flows through the body's meridians, and spiritual energy is nested in the root chakra, this cosmic energy is instead concentrated just above and between your eyes, the sacred “third eye” position. You can feel it there constantly now, as a small dull pressure that is a bit warm, like the palm of ones hand compared to a fingertip. It doesn't hurt, but it is still there. Cosmic energy is a totally different beast then what you are used to!

While not absolutely perfect; you still feel as though you got the hang of this cultivation; and feel as though you are lucky or talented enough to make good use of it without problem. As you gather up the cosmic energies in your crown chakra, you feel you third eye opening. Concentrating the forces is a bit different then cultivating regular chi, or spiritual energy. When you feel like your forehead is about to burst in fiery cosmic energy, you feel as though you may be approaching a new breakthrough-

You have now become an Early Stage Cosmic Mind Immortal! You can feel the dot of cosmic energy on your forehead fully formed now- though not yet at the peak of its power. It is akin to a third eye- you can see out of that spot on your head. In the same way that having two eyes makes your vision more precise, having three only increases the power of your already formidable enchanted eyesight. As an immortal with many mind and body refinements, you could already see through any fabric or base material except for the heaviest of metals. But now, you can see even farther and better.

However, you also feel something else unlocking- a new ability perhaps. This is something in addition to your newfound third eye cosmic sight- however, whichever way you twist and flex this newfound power will likely be the only way you can flex it until you ascend to the next stage of cultivation. In the same manner as a Supreme Law guides a cultivator's abilities on the path; you must now guide your newfound third eye.

With the power of Third Eye True Sight, you can now see through lies and illusions- at least from those at any power level you can comprehend. Your vision clears further and your third eye, invisible unless you will it upon your brow, gives you unparalleled ability to see the truth.

While your newfound power is promising, it's important to remember that you are still in the early stage of your next cultivation level. In order to cultivate more effectively, you may want to find some herbal medicines, entity cores, or some other methods of acquiring power more quickly then your natural talent will allow. Despite the fact you are an immortal, time is still a precious resources and sitting here for a hundred or thousand decades with little to no progress would be very frustrating.

The cosmic realm is a very strange place.

As you fly through black infinities, you notice tiny specks of light. Only when the heavens are most absent from the sky, and when the night is shining, can mortals just barely glimpse the lights in the sky. These stars are like tiny realms- each one separated by an abyss that would swallow anything less then a powerful immortal- like yourself.

You come across one such realm that looks promising. The air is very fresh and crisp, as though it is deep in the night, and the sounds of wildlife are heard. Several dark mountains, illuminated only by starlight, crowd around a small valley. You see glowing mushrooms and animals that seem home to this place- though you do not know if this place as a master.

In the center of the area is the most interesting thing- a great glowing tree. It is rich with chi and special forms of energy- this is exactly the kind of thing you are looking for! At the base of the tree is a roughly man-sized crystal formation. Could this be an extremely potent ingredient one could make for a cosmic level cultivation pill?

As you approach the tree however, you feel a sudden sensation of danger. Your third eye allows you to see things as they are; and just underneath the soil here are the barbed and spiky roots of this great tree. They slither near the surface, as though ready to entangle anyone who draws near- could this tree perhaps be a sort of carnivorous plant- which is why none of the animals of this small realm seem to go near it or its light? It isn't attacking the gently swaying grass or flowing water nearby, so it must be able to determine if something is living that approaches it. Perhaps fast motion? Or, at this level of being, it can sense intent?

Holding out your hand, you can already tell that the crystal will not fly towards you- even your telekenetic ability cannot overcome its cosmic energies rooting it in place and binding it to this tree. You can only gather it with a touch.

>Approach the tree calmly and peacefully
>Use Daoist fire magic and burn any roots that attack you
>Put on strongest magic item of Metal element, to counter the Wood element of this tree

Reaching into your sleeve, you finger around for your most useful metal elemental magic item. While cultivators almost never wear armor, too encumbering, you consider what would be the most useful tool against this wood element...

Ahh, you find a white tiger katana, a magical blade from a distant land. Given to you by an old flame. Of course, the Katana itself isn't super powerful on its own, probably one of your weakest magic swords, but it is strongly infused with metal element- a natural counter to wood element. You aren't considered with the element influencing you negatively, as your elemental self is perfectly balanced and immutable from a much earlier cultivation stage...

Putting on the katana, you touch down and march towards the tree. The roots beneath the ground seem hesitant, but then suddenly rise out of the ground. Each one that draws near, you give a quick slice and it falls away instantly, easily cut, and the tree weakening each time it is harmed by the metal elemental sword. Eventually, it stops fighting you, and you reach the crystal.

The crystal is almost as tall as you, very thick, and supercharged with some kind of supernatural energy. You touch the crystal and can feel a charge of some kind of cosmic chi energy! You feel as though this would be a great boon to your cultivation- but it may only be useful for a limited time once absorbed. The powerful infusion of life energy could also have other uses as well.

Absorbing the crystal's chi and replacing it with your own is a difficult task- but one with potentially huge benefits.

In your time, you have read many cultivation and martial arts manuals- many of them forbidden. Hidden and secret knowledge. One such is the art of Devil Transfusion, the process of replacing your chi with the chi of another being or thing. Naturally this is extremely dangerous, and almost all cultivation sects ban or hide this knowledge; even one small mistake can result in chi deviation- such as accidentally mixing your chi and the foreign chi. In worse cases, it can result in the body being unable to create its own blood- thus making the person into a vampire. Or just outright killing them.

Of course, you are an Immortal and a very skilled cultivator! You take the crystal and enter a highly focused state. Using your abilities, you channel all of your chi to one part of your body to allow the foreign crystal's energy to take up its place through your meridians, allow it to warm up your golden core, and flow through your Dantians and lotus points. Finally, you harmlessly expel your old, mortal chi out of your fingertips into the soil around you- hopefully to sate this tree entity and pay it back a bit for stealing this powerful elixir.

Almost immediately, you feel a massive difference. Your body feels charged with some kind of strange, unknowable cosmic energy! You can now survive in the void between worlds in the cosmic realms, and have an increased cultivation base and speed- especially in regards to cosmic level stages. Finally, your blood is now replaced with glowing crystalline light- meaning any wounds you suffer will not bleed but instead simply release a burst of cosmic energy. In darkness, your veins glow very dimly with rainbow energy. This is an unusual change, but hopefully not one that marks you as being too inhuman among your fellow cultivators...

Suddenly, you feel a nasty smell and taste rising from the back of your throat. You puke out dark black vomit which sizzles in the open air- yuck! What do you do?

>>
>>5186729
Without a doubt, some demonic cultivator is going to have one hell of a boon when that ball of impurities falls from the heavens
>>
You think back to your time cultivating and realize this black bile may actually just be impurities leaving your body- which seems hard to believe, given you thought your already "perfected" it a long time ago. Vomiting up the black bile, you watch as it cools and hardens into small medicine balls. Disgusting to think they came from your own body- but a powerful artifact on their own for a lesser cultivator perhaps.

With the cosmic energies fully absorbed, you return to your meditation. Over the next two thousand years, you slowly acclimate to your newfound cosmic state of being- and become a Mid Stage Cosmic Mind Immortal!

While you don't feel any more powerful then you were before as an immortal, your mind certainly feels more malleable and open to the wider experiences of the universe. Concepts like infinity and paradoxical thoughts- once just abstractions you glossed over as a mortal, are now being more fully realized.

You start to get the feeling that finding a secure place here in the cosmic realm, especially with the amount of time each of your meditations are starting to take, would be a good idea. What's a good realm to look out for?

That or maybe refine our core even further
>>
You decide to find a new hideout- a secret place among the stars.

While a place brimming with cosmic energy would be the best, similar to the one with the glowing tree, you'd like to find something a little out of the way. Your own "peak" if you will, secure and tranquil, a good place to cultivate. Specifically, you want to find a beautiful place. Flying far into the black cosmos, you eventually come across one such "shard" of a world that sticks out to you. It's a world cast in eternal shadow, with bright stars and a huge moon, an island surrounded by dark mists that block sight from outsiders- perfect. You decide you'll make your own home here. With a wave of your practiced hand you draw forth wood and stone to create a simple house and cultivation temple. You dig a well and fill it with crystalized moon water- to be further enriched by the Yin energy flowing through this place. You draw forth your magical calling spells through your sleeves and talismans to bring forth your collection of otherworldly magic treasures and items from your home in Zhongguo to here. While the flow of spiritual and chi energy isn't as good as it was back on your exclusive immortal peak back home, this place has a much better access to the all important cosmic energy since it is in the cosmic realm.

Now that you have a place all your own; it's time to decide what to do with it. You know you're going to be spending a lot of time cultivating here in the cosmic realms, but you can also spend a little time improving it before you settle in.

You decide to organize your defenses first, followed by improving your living conditions second- and inviting a friend.

Putting up paper talismans and warding spells to protect the place from snoopers and interlopers, you now know the place is defensible. This realm is charged with magical energies and you can animate the soil, the trees, and the chill in the air itself to strike at any attackers. Your magic is quite strong already- so a few animated golems and mechanical traps act as a nice secondary safety net to protect your new land. Of course, these defenses are mostly to keep away pests- little astral goblins and parasites, lesser yao gui, maybe the curious low-level astral searching cultivator.

Once your defenses have been set up- almost immediately you feel a sense of danger. With your Psychic Third Eye, you look out into the mists and realize someone is watching you. And if it isn't the arrogant master himself- Cho Han

The Han clan have been your enemy for what seems to be an eternity now. What began as a tiny fight between one arrogant young master and yourself in an inn over a girl; a mutual childhood friend; has spiraled into an endless blood feud. With the first young master defeated, his older brother swore vengeance. And then his uncle. And then his father. And then the grandfather of the uncle, and so on and so on, until eventually the entire clan and its patriarch was upon you.

Cho Han is a powerful immortal-level cultivator of a similar level of strength to you. Despite the fact he was always a stage or two ahead of you during your various rivalries, you always managed to surpass him and humiliate him. While now he is an immortal- his entire clan still has not been eradicated and causes you trouble time and time again. Well, you know what they say, out by the roots.

Cho Han is watching and reaching for his thundering quarterstaff, along with him is a cohort of several powerful warriors- though all are of a lesser cultivator level. You defenses may not be able to hold against them though, meaning you will have to fight many again one. And while you are also an immortal and cannot die; getting your soul trapped in a random gem and tossed into the void for an eon or getting turned into a pig with your memories suppressed would be both humiliating and a big setback to your current cultivation goals- unacceptable! You'll pay for intruding on this beautiful place, Cho!

You decide to bait the men inside- you know your defenses will be very useful to thin the herd and do away with Cho's numbers advantage.

You reach to down your sleeve and slowly pull out your blade, and then pretend to hesitate. This causes the cultivators outside of your manse to jump in to attack you in the blink of an eye- but it was a trick. The moment they piece the obscuring mist around your stronghold; magical energy gets to work. The first is wrapped up in thorny briars from the nearby tree, his bones crushed. The second is sliced by the wind and frozen solid from concentrated moonlight- the yin energy making his severed body parts shatter the moment they hit the ground. Your plan worked perfectly!

Cho is a bit smarter, and stronger, then his compatriots. He enters your manse once the defenses were used up- caring not even a tiny bit for his men, before attacking you with his high powered magic staff. Each time it hits the ground, or the side of your own weapon in a close parry, it releases a deafening thunderclap that shatters nearby stone.

"Li Wan! I, your grandfather, will defeat you! Die you insolent dog!"

While your newfound cultivation progress in the cosmic realm hasn't translated exactly into higher combat power- your ability to see the cosmic realms and comprehend the infinite certainly makes you feel wiser then Cho. Besides, he was always an upstart. You're fairly certain he hasn't gotten any stronger since your last engagement- though as a true immortal with a flawless golden core like yourself he's still a force to be reckoned with.

After a short exchange of blows, you go all out and unleash your most powerful moves.
"EVIL SEALING PALM!
MASTER SEVERING-STROKE!
TEN SPIRIT DANCE!
REVERSE RIVER BREATHING!
GROUNDING OF FLYING TERRORS!"

He returns in kind.

"MURDEROUS STRIKE!
ARM OF ASSASSINS!
DRAGONS CLAW ULTIMATE STRIKE!
GUILLOTINE OF SORROWS!
DARKNESS CONSUMES THE MISSING!"

With the power of your flying jade blade and your other cultivator tricks and techniques, you manage to beat him back and, finally, gain the upper hand. You jump up while his guard is down, your hands reaching down to deliver the final strike-

And then you remember he's immortal. Of course. You've killed so many along your path you sometimes forget it isn't exactly a "catch all" solution.

Then, in the final moment before your last blow lands, you instead decide how you're going to get rid of him. Maybe you can't kill him permanently, but you'll end this blood feud, once and for all...

Your raised blade slams down into the center of his chest, piercing the immortal flesh. You can't kill him, but his clan will trouble you no longer. You pour your newly refined cosmic chi into the weapon and into Cho, the burning hot energy causes his body to light up like a forge flame.

All over Zhonggou, in the ale houses, palaces, and cultivation sects for beginners and experts alike; random men and women suddenly stop in place. They clutch their chest, and within a second, their bodies are on fire. They begin to burn, scream out, and are reduced to ash. Hundreds of those of the tainted Han clan and bloodline are eradicated in a moment. All of them... except their immortal patriarch.

Cho Han lies broken before you, his body halfway melted into ash from your burning attack. But he still isn't dead. Even if you scattered his ashes to the four winds, he would find a way to return eventually. But with no clan to support him, he'd be a lose, broken immortal with no ties and no magic- and soon, no body.

"Begone!" You scream, banishing Cho Han's broken form to the darkest cave of the underworld. Good luck crawling out of there anytime soon, bastard.

With that completed, you shield your newfound cosmic abode once again with wards and defenses, and this time, a better obscuring mist to block those who may spy on you. You invite the dragon girl from below in the heavens; who comes to live within your beautiful moonlight palace. You can finally cultivate in peace!
>>
You spend the next few thousand years in quiet living- it's peaceful, but perhaps a bit boring. Your dragon girl becomes your dragon wife, and you settle into a nice home life. You farm cosmic energies for sustenance, check in on your friends and realtivies through moonlit pools, and contemplate higher dimensions.

Your cosmic chi seems to have a symbiotic effect on your cosmic-mind cultivation. You can better feel and move through cosmic thought easier, and the powers of your cosmic mind grow. Beyond basic psychic abilities, many forms of your Doaist magic are boosted in strength. You learn to draw fractal talsimans and runes with enhanced abilities, and find your ability to create and manipulate magic items improves as well.

You are now a Late Stage Cosmic Mind Immortal!

While your newfound improvements make you feel accomplished, there is something else here too. There is a nagging sensation of potential loss and inhumanity ahead- it is much the same as when you were a half step to immortality. The sudden realization you will outlive everyone you ever knew, and the world would be fundamentally changed in your perspective forever. You are experienced something similar again. When you look into the eyes of your dragon wife, or look out into the beauty of the world, you no longer see them as they are; you see the patterns and cosmic energies- fundamental concepts of time and mass and dimensions. You have the feeling that if you complete the Cosmic Mind Immortal stage and move beyond, you will fundamentally never be the same again. Perhaps if not physically, certainly not mentally.

You have decided to push onwards- though you are hesitant as to what will happen to your mind and consciousness when you ascend to yet a higher level of being; you decide that the limitless nature of cultivation is more important. This is your Dao.

After almost one million years of quiet contemplation and study- no longer bothered by material concerns, a need for crude medicines, and no annoying rivals to bother you- your cultivation goes swimmingly. Your cosmic energy circulates through your body as your third eye fully unravels the secret and hidden truths of the world. You can just barely gaze upon them, even consider them fully, but only for a few seconds at a time before the weight of the realization nearly crushes you.

After a million years- you have reached the Peak of the Cosmic Mind Immortal Stage!

However, as the peak of each stage is truly the most powerful, it is also the most difficult to advance. You have officially reached a bottleneck- one that you won't be able to overcome with a tiny cosmic crystal from one little cosmic realm-tree. This extreme difficulty comes from infusing yourself with an ungodly amount of cosmic energy, or finding a way to refine it to a level higher then any that exists within this current universe... Very difficult to achieve!

Your dragon waifu reassures you, but you know that you will need to take some drastic measures. However, using your cosmic mind, you can perfectly see the steps to enact a plan, no matter how nearly impossible it may be...

There are three concepts you have to finally push past this bottleneck and achieve the end point of your cultivation- at least for now. Which will you choose, Lan Wi?

>Slaughter and absorb the energy of countless billions (Genocide Ending)
>Learn true creation by becoming the God of your own universe (God Ending)
>Abandon your Daoist principles and cultivate true life-affirming beliefs of a Buddha (Buddha Ending)

I agree with >>5191908 the outside is not a place for False gods.

>True creation god ending
Dragon wife becomes Dragon mistress who is doted on by the universe.

>Slaughter and absorb the energy of countless billions (Genocide Ending)
Let's give some other upstart cultivator the chance to face us down as the BBEG

Instead, lets give some upstart JRPG protagonist cultivator the chance to face us down as the hidden boss.

The univerve deserves a better overseer than a self insert schizo controlled by horny voices. Let's give a chance of an uprising to a fellow cultivator like >>5192253 says.
>>
>>5192231
>Abandon your Daoist principles and cultivate true life-affirming beliefs of a Buddha (Buddha Ending)

"Remembering saying that there was no point of cultivating? You were wrong."
>>
>>5192231
>God Ending

How can we declare this is our Dao, then abandon it?
>>
>>5192231
>Learn true creation by becoming the God of your own universe (God Ending)
Imagine not becoming a god. If you do the Genocide ending you're going to probably piss of some higher/other being
If you align your believes with buddha you lose your dick
I want to have Lan Wi one day fuck that dragon. Thus being a actual god (not that pussy) shit it is.

The only way to break through this peak... is to become a God. A true creator.

In order to do so- you have to focus all of your power. The ability to create living things or landscapes isn't very difficult and isn't beyond your abilities, but to start from scratch requires leaving the "mere" cosmic realm to another place entirely is a difficult task- but you decide to undertake it. It takes many centuries of careful preparation and gathering of rare materials, resources, and training. You even train your dragon wife to make the flight with you, but you know that you will need to help her through whatever void you happen across.

In order to create and become a God- you head out across the vast distances of stars. Eventually, you manage to reach a dark place where no light reaches. You focus your energy into a single bright point, coalescing into a sun, until eventually its power mixes with yours, becoming a source of strength instead of draining it.

Nearby, you will the emptiness into shape. The massive planet appears as lava stone and dead soils- lit only by the star. The darkness of the sky opens up to reveal the stars and lights of other galaxies and planets- other worlds, no doubt created by other Gods. It is then you realize that the truth about your universe is that it is a living thing- each creation will eventually begat a being powerful enough to create a new universe- the true end point of cultivation. With that final realization, you have broken through the Cosmic Mind Immortal stage and you are now within the Early True Creator God Stage!

But while you stand here on a smoldering hunk of rock with your confused dragon wife at your side- you feel as though this would look a lot nicer with some plants, animals, running water, sky and clouds... yes. You could make a home here. As vast and beautiful as Zhonggou...

Hey everyone, hope you enjoyed! Sorry about the slowdown near the end. This was a bit short for a quest (especially a cultivator) but I wanted a change of pace. Since every cultivator quest starts at the bottom, I wanted to start nearer to the top. Tell me what you think if you'd like. Thanks for playing!

Thks, I liked it! short but sweet.
What would have the other two endings be like?
>>
>>5192821
It was fun, would've love to see more though.
>>
>>5192821
Thanks for running, QM! It was fun, if a bit linear and unchallenging... But a fun little story nevertheless. Thinking of running something longer-form?
>>
>>5192821
Loved every second of it, QM!

I had the idea that the genocide ending would be you destroying the entire world, absorbing everything's power, and then eventually slaying your dragon wife as the last living thing as you cross into total madness. You use the power of everything in this universe to make a portal to another, implying you're going on a mass cosmic rampage of unlimited genocidal cultivation.

As for Buddha cultivation; the idea was the main character would combine his Daoist beliefs with the Buddhist ones; and eventually cultivate into a Buddha who helps other people cultivate into immortals and make the world a paradise. Sort of opposite of a tribulation sent from heaven.

I already run a totally different quest- as for cultivation, I just wanted an experiment. I really couldn't see myself starting a REAL cultivation quest, for multiple reasons.
>>
>>5192821
Better for story to have a final than be just discontinued. So I'm already grateful for this!
