“So, next up is Ginyu and Tagoma vs. Vegeta and Master Tien…” Keli comments, biting her thumb’s nail nervously.

“It’s still not a team-up I really saw coming, but now, here it is.” you comment as you watch the four start to walk towards the ring. “I wouldn’t want to count Captain Ginyu and his partner out, but… Vegeta and Tien are a real uphill battle for them.”

She nods. “If I’m being honest… I’m a little worried. I don’t doubt how this will go, but that’s also kinda the problem. They’re a team we’ll have to face before we make it to the final round.”

“All the more reason we should pay close attention. We need to know how they fight… but at the same time, I can see missing the forest for the trees. Bigger focus is on seeing how they gel together as a team, not what specific moves they can use.”

Keli nods in agreement. “Yeah.” Her eyes focus intensely as the teams take positions, Tien and Tagoma facing one another.

“Something else is bothering you, isn’t it?” you ask. Keli scratches the side of her head, unsure how to answer. “Well, there’s something that’s bothering me. Equivalent Exchange?”

She laughs. “All right. What’s on your mind?”

“Fighters ready? BEGIN!”

You look at the circular shape of the ring, then briefly glance at Izzy, before returning focus there. Then, you telepathically tell her, ‘The Promised Day. Whatever those working with Towa are up to, I don’t like it. Fu and Basilea are here for… some reason, possibly related to it. But we have no clue as to what it actually is, who it involves, nothing other than the name. Could they be trying to gather energy for something? Trying to condense it into some form? …Create something like Hirudegarn?’

Keli rubbed her chin. ‘The Dragon Balls could be involved in it. But yeah, that’s something that’s been in the back of my mind too.’

As you see Tien carefully swerve and dodge around Tagoma’s attacks, more testing out how his opponent fights. ‘So, is that all you’re worried about?’

She shakes her head. ‘I’ve been training as a Crane School student for so many years now. I’ve been through so much, especially recently. And… now I’ll be facing Master Tien again. This time, I even feel like I can win.’ Her shoulders slouch slightly as Tien finally goes on the offensive, delivering Crane Strikes to Tagoma that leave him reeling. ‘…But what does it mean when it comes to that?’

You glance at her and tilt your head. ‘You mean when we win?’

She smiles a bit. ‘Yeah. I would guess it means I “graduate” as a Crane School Master. Yet… I don’t know if I really feel like I’ve earned that yet.’

‘...Because you’d be winning with my help?’ you ask hesitantly.

‘Nah, that’s not it.’ Keli responds. Tien is now facing off against Ginyu, who strikes a pose before launching several Ki blasts around him. ‘I guess it’s more that I kinda need to come to terms with the idea that I’d be… well, and equal to him in a way.’ Her arms crossed, she then asks, ‘I guess I just don’t get how you do it.’

‘Huh?’

‘Well, not just you, but Maple before you too. You became World Champ as a teenager. Maple even before that. Yet it doesn’t feel like either of you really ever hit a wall upon it. Hell, even Chuu Lee just kept pressing forward.’

Ahhh.

As you look back at the ring, you see Tien using the Multi-Form to keep Ginyu on his toes. ‘I find it fun. And I would guess mom, dad, Chuu Lee, everyone else felt the same way. I guess I’ve kinda internalized that merely winning once, being crowned World Champ or acknowledged as Turtle Master, it isn’t the end of it. I like seeing new challenges, what await going forward, fighting new foes and the like!’ You look up to her. ‘…Do you not, Keli?’’

‘I guess I’ve kinda pushed off really thinking about that question for a while now.’ Keli watches in surprise, as Ginyu preforms a Body Change… with Tagoma, charging back into the ring and actually doing some damage to the Tien doppelgangers. ‘It’s not like I hate training and improving myself. But maybe I just… don’t know if that’s all I want it to be.’

‘Well, I guess a thing that helps is that there are some goals beyond just that. For mom and uncle Acer, they’ve been keeping vigilant for the eventual arrival of Raichi, and the constant threat of Towa. For me… well, I also want to be able to protect Cocoa. Or… well, maybe not just protecting her, but being able to be there for her. I guess… it’s not just getting physically stronger, but stronger in spirit, strong enough in it to know how to pace myself.’ Tien’s still holding on pretty well, but it looks like Ginyu in Tagoma’s body has the upper hand still. Just then, Vegeta dashes in and slams his fist into their foe’s stomach, following it up with a kick that knocks him back. Smirking, Vegeta takes his stance, motioning for Ginyu-Tagoma to come at him. As Tien backs off, though, you see that he’s still very focused, like he’s waiting for something. He and Vegeta have a plan. ‘Tien’s the same too, and I know you are as well. You’ve got someone you care about.’ you tell her with a smile on your face.

Keli ruffles your hair. ‘Yeah.’

‘Plus, it’s not like they just… stop being your Master when you’ve “graduated” either. Master Roshi is still, well, Master Roshi to me, mom, dad, uncle Acer, aunt Chi-Chi, uncle Krillin, Yamcha, Launch… and Gohan, too. We’ve long surpassed him, but that doesn’t change who he was and still is to us. I don’t think things between you and Tien will really change that much.’

‘Man, you’ve got a mind twenty years ahead of where most kids your age would be. Be honest, how much of that is stuff your mom told you?’

‘Heeeey, come on, give me some credit!’ You place your hands behind your head casually. ‘Still, that help any?’

‘I think so. Thanks, Peppa.’

Vegeta keeps overwhelming Ginyu-Tagoma, wearing him down, but you notice that he also kinda keeps leaving himself open. As if taunting his opponent. “What’s this, has the great Captain Ginyu run out of tricks? I’ll admit, your partner has surprising strength, but it’s nothing compared to what I can do.”

“Yeah… we’ll see how cocky you are when you’re in these shoes! CHANGE NOW!”

“Tien!” Vegeta yells out.

“HAAAA!” Tien steps in and thrusts both arms forward, and right as you notice a beam shoot out of Ginyu-Tagoma’s mouth, energy swirls around him and redirects it right over to Tagoma in Ginyu’s body. The two look around in confusion, Tien pumping his fist in celebration. “That worked out quite well, won’t you say?”

Vegeta smirks and nods. “Looks like some old habits die hard, ey, Ginyu?” the Saiyan prince inquires. “But looks like your attempt to spice it up a bit left you burned.”

“Grh, damn! Tagoma, tag out, I- hrk!” Ginyu seems frozen in place, and you see Tien still in the ring, keeping him from switching in.

Vegeta raises his hand up in the air, and energy swirls in his palm, forming a chaotic sphere of energy. He then lunges at Tagoma, slamming the sphere into the weakened fighter, and charging forward still. He then manages to knock Tagoma into the stunned Ginyu, hitting both of them out of the ring.

“TAGOMA AND GINYU ARE BOTH OUT OF BOUNDS! VEGETA AND TIEN ADVANCE!”

“So that was his plan.” mom notes. “Using the idea behind the Mafuba to prevent Ginyu’s Body Change.”

“Vegeta and Tien were pretty in-sync. It’s gonna be tough, even tougher than we anticipated. And… hrmn.” Your tail sways behind you as you watch them walk back. “That comment he made about old habits dying hard? Even with our training, I bet there are still habits in our fighting styles they’ll be aware of. Tien for you, Vegeta for me. We’ll need some way to break, or subvert, or deal with them.” You look up at your partner. “What do you think, Keli? We can still win this, right?”

“Absolutely.”

“Hey now, don’t count us out yet.” Chuu Lee reminds you with a cheeky grin. “You very well may be facing us in the finals.”

“I doubt that. I still have a score to settle with you, ‘former’ Champ.” Vegeta scoffs as he enters the waiting area, smirking.

“Current Mifan Champs.” she reminds him.

“Indeed. I don’t expect any match against the two of you to be an easy one.” Tien remarks politely.

Videl and Kuriza head towards the ring with Yamcha and Lapis next. This will probably be the last chance you and Keli will get to see either team in action before facing them. Definitely gonna need to watch this.

“Fighters ready? BEGIN!” Pilaf announces.

Yamcha and Kuriza face one another, with Yamcha taking a fighting stance as Kuriza crosses his arms behind his back. “Jeice put up a pretty good match against you, but ultimately was unable to claim victory. In his honor, then,” Kuriza brings his arms up, rolling his torso, then flipping his head back. With a thrust of his hand forward and with his legs spreading out a bit, he declares. “I, Lord Kuriza, shall defeat you for the sake of the Red Magma of the Ginyu Force!”

“Thanks, boss! Give ‘em your best!” Jeice cheers.

Kuriza lunges forward, Yamcha immediately on the defensive. “All right then, let’s play ball!” Yamcha tries to get some distance and launch a Spirit Ball at Kuriza, swerving around the alien’s arm as he tries to deflect it. He then uses his free arm to fire off a quick barrage of Ki blasts. “Howling Rifle!” Each deflected beam is followed by an attempt to hit Kuriza with the Spirit Ball, yet they just barely miss him. And he pushes forward.

“I’ll show you a skill Videl and I developed together! Behold!” He leaps upward and his aura flares around him, with a frigid chill flowing around his body. “Avenger Auk!” Spinning in midair, Kuriza bolts down at Yamcha, dodging the Spirit Ball with the grace of a seabird underwater. Yamcha leaps out of the way, yet as Kuriza punches the ground, mounds of ice shoot upward and even catch Yamcha by the leg.

“Gah!” Yamcha tries to pull his leg free from the ice.

Standing up and striking a pose, Kuriza holds his palm forward and readies a Ki blast. The Spirit Ball comes flying back at Kuriza, though, and hits him in the back of the head. “Ow! Rude!” the boy complains, rubbing his head. Yet that’s distracted him long enough for Lapis to come dashing in and slamming his palm into the alien’s solar plexus.

“Tagging in.” he says coolly, then letting out an Explosive Wave to force Kuriza back. “We’ll need a new plan.”

Finally free from the ice, Yamcha nods. “Yeah. Given how tough they are, it might come down to Plan F.”

Aura flaring up, Lapis nods. “I’ll try to weigh ‘em down before we get to that point.”

Plan F, huh…?

Sorry for the delay, stuff came up today. But we are back!

Lapis attempts to fire off Ki blasts towards Kuriza, and while the boy initially deflects one of them, upon noticing his arms grow heavy, he instead moves to dodge them and even fire off eye beams to counter them. Sensing a need to change up tactics, Lapis instead dashes in close while forming a barrier around himself, looking like he’s trying to barrel into Kuriza. But right as he gets close, and Kuriza attempts to counter with a kick, Lapis drops the barrier and grabs his opponent by the tail, slamming him on his back.

Kicking off and then raising his hands above his head, Lapis next forms a sphere of black energy between his palms, then slams it down on Kuriza’s chest. Flipping back, he tries to power up and ready his next attack… but Kuriza was much less affected by that move than he was anticipating. Standing back up, you notice him about to fill the ring with ice again, but he’s stopped by Videl. “Hold up, got an idea!”

“Then I leave this to you, partner!” He floats back, cape fluttering, as Videl rockets in with a kick.

Lapis crosses his arms and blocks it, but even in doing so he’s knocked back from the sheer power of her kick. He flies up and tries to get some distance, and to your surprise Videl actually lets him. Once he’s able to catch a quick breather, you notice something high up in the air… wait, the Spirit Ball! It’s been floating up there this whole time?

Lapis then raises his hand up and adds Ki to it, but in doing so you notice him and Yamcha both sort of powering up to match each other’s energy exactly. Videl crosses her arms, confident, as she watches Lapis. He launches the combined attack downward, but right as it is about to hit her, it splits in two. With Yamcha leaping back into the ring, the two coordinate their Spirit Balls to try and swarm her. And… ahhh.

“Fuuuuu… sion!” the two call out together, using the Spirit Balls while they preform the dance. “HA-agh!” But before they can finish, Videl’s between them, chopping both in their sides.

“AVENGER AUK!” Kuriza calls out, bolting down while the pair are still reeling from the surprise attack. Videl leaps out of the way as Kuriza punches the ground between Lapis and Yamcha, ice covering the both of them.

“Not a bad plan.” Pantea comments. “Heh, given how much we’ve done that, I guess it stands to reason she could see that coming. And now they’re running close to a time out. But I wouldn’t count dad out just yet.”

Still something we need to find a counter for.” You look to Keli and comment telepathically, ‘Forced Spirit Fission might be able to do it.’

‘It might, but neither of us have really got that down to a combat-ready level.’ she responds. ‘Still, you’re right. We do need a way to counter a Fusion.’

You watch as Lapis and Yamcha break out of the ice with Explosive Waves, Lapis heading out of combat and Yamcha staring down Videl and Kuriza, his aura flaring up red as he activates Kaio-ken. Videl heads back and it’s Kuriza vs. Yamcha once more. Hmm… they countered by Videl hitting them at the last moment, before they could fuse properly. Clothes Beam might be able to stop it? Solar Flare? Could even use Instant Transmission to interrupt.

And… even just thinking about this is getting you excited. Oooh either one would be a fun fight! “Come on Videl! Come on Yamcha!” you cheer. “Nice job Lapis! Great work Kuriza! Let’s see you all kick this up a notch!”

Kuriza confidently rubs under his nose. “Hmhm. I don’t know about you, Mister Yamcha, but I still have something I’d like to save for the end.”

Rushing Kuriza and attempting to use the Wolf Fang Fist against him, Yamcha responds, “Holding back too much will only lead to a loss!” You watch in surprise as he throttles the Kaio-ken up with every strike of the Wolf Fang Fist, x3, x4, x5, finishing it off with a x10 Kaio-ken. Kuriza’s actually caught off-guard by that last one, but while he’s knocked back, he’s able to keep standing. Yamcha then goes full-power and quick-fires a Kamehameha, keeping Kuriza blocking the attack as he gives it his all.

Lapis then jumps in and fires out a dragon made of energy, empowered by Shadow Magic, towards Kuriza’s side. It almost looks like it’ll hit, but then… “Played your hand too hard, Lapis! MP BUSTER!” Videl steps in and manages to cancel out the attack. With THAT move. Well crap. Another thing you’ll need to look out for.

“Ooooh! I had no idea she learned something like THAT! Oh that’s so cool!” Fu cheers, almost bouncing on his heels. “I guess it stands to reason as a countermeasure given the kinds of people she’d face even without us here, but still, that’s a surprise!”

You notice mom grinning wide and proud at Videl, hands on her hips and nodding. “She learned it well.”

With the attack vanquished, Videl then follows things up by kneeing Lapis in the gut, sending him careening back out of combat and landing hard. He’s still conscious, but he looks like that took a massive toll on him. “It’s all on you, partner!” Videl tells Kuriza, heading back out.

“HaaaaaaAAAAA!” Kuriza starts to walk forward, still holding back the Kamehameha. And his speed slowly picks up. Yamcha realizes too late that he can’t put out much more power, and with one final push, Kuriza forces the attack back at him. An explosion rockets through the ring and Yamcha is knocked out of the ring.

Kuriza strikes a pose in victory. Lapis again tries to stand up, but he collapses to one knee as he does, sighing out loud. “Man, and we almost had ‘em, too.” He raises his hand up. “We’re out. Good showing, you two.”

“And with that, Yamcha and Lapis have lost! VIDEL AND LORD KURIZA ADVANCE!”

Videl walks over and high-fives Kuriza, the two then taking a moment to do a little victory pose for the cheering crowds. Lapis and Yamcha head back first, Pantea smiling kindly at her dad. “You did great out there.”

“Hah, thanks, but wasn’t enough to claim victory this time.” he responds humbly.

Chuu Lee walks over to heal Lapis a bit, then gives him a hug. “Nice try.”

He gives her a kiss on the cheek in thanks. “I’ll watch over Tommy. Up to you now, Mifan Champ.”

“You’re all going to make me gag with this humble nonsense.” Basilea grumbles as she starts to walk forward.

Fu though sees right through it. “Oh come now, you’re not only used to it, you kinda like it! Look, even your tail’s wagging.”

“Aghgf-F-WOULD YOU SHUSH?!” she growls at him, quickly grabbing her tail to keep it from moving. You hold back a giggle.

Keli stretches a bit. “Well. We’re up next.”

>A. I’m gonna take the lead this time. That fine with you, Keli?

…Keli picks Scissors.

The two of you share a silent pause, and after a blink, you try again. Scissors. And Scissors. OKAY. ONE MORE. You feint briefly, making a number of different signs while counting down that are not Rock or Paper or even Scissors, but Dragon, Devil, Monkey, Pepper, and more. That leaves Keli’s hand open in confusion right as you go back to Scissors again.

“Scissors beats Paper!” you announce.

She blinks, frowns, then ruffles your hair. “All right, all right, you’re up.”

With your left hand, you gather energy in your fist and raise it up. “You wanna see what I’ve got? Here, have a taste!” Pulling both arms back, you launch forward and attempt feint the attack into a Super God Fist… and Fu blocks it.

“Woah! Nice one!” he compliments. You go for a left hook with the Rasenken, and Fu deflects it. Pulling your arm back you try to follow up with the Meteor Combo anyway, and he deflects every blow. Crrrrap. “Hehe, my turn?” There’s a sharp jab to your gut, followed by a palm strike to your face that you manage to block. You’re forced back, and Fu dashes in and tries to kick you down. He’s FAST. You power up a bit to hold off his follow-up attacks, noticing him fire Ki blasts AWAY from you as he stays close. You block a double-chop from him but then see the Ki blasts start to swarm around you. The Spirit Bits? No, something else.

‘Peppa, look out!’ Keli calls to you telepathically, and just in time she teleports you out of the way and behind Fu as the Ki blasts begin sparking with electricity as he strikes a pose. That skill again. That could have been ba-AGH!

Fu kicks you in the stomach, holding off Keli’s counterattack as she tries to keep him off you. “Come on Peppa, don’t go holding back on me now! The best data will come when you’re taking this seriously.”

‘We need a strategy.’ she tells you, backing off a swipe from Fu and out of the active combat zone. ‘Maybe goad Basilea into wanting to face you instead?’

>A. Great idea. Hey, sorry Fu, but I’m saving my best for my rival! Won’t underestimate you again, but it’s Basilea I’m focused on. Sorry

‘Not yet. Got an idea. We’ll do this together, but I’ll throttle my power and keep him guessing.’ You power up into Super Saiyan, Keli letting the Kaio-ken surge around her. ‘Combo time!’ You crack your knuckles. “JAN KEN!” Dashing up close, you punch forward with “ROCK!” but keep your Ki hidden as best you can as you go full power! Fu keeps a smug smirk on his face as he catches your fist before it hits his face… but doesn’t STOP it, and you smack him hard with his own hand. He backs up a bit, dazed, as you power back down.

Keli gets back into the ring and dashes at him, and while Fu recovers and throws a Ki blast in her direction, she powers through it. “VOLLEYBALL FIST!” With both hands together, she has his attention… right as you go for the second hit!

“SCISSORS!” You hit his back and again throttle into full power. That stuns him long enough for her to be able to launch him upward.

“Ow ow ow ow ow!” he whines, rubbing his back. You use Instant Transmission to appear below him, ready for the final hit. He looks at you curiously at first.

And then with pain, as you deliver a full force palm strike with “PAPER!” at his chest. That stops him in midair, and allows Keli her chance to finish this combo.

“SPIKE!” She hammers down and sends Fu into the ground, heading back out of active combat.

You touch down, taking your stance as he tries to get back up. “I’m sure she’s told you not to underestimate me. Might be wise to take that to heart.”

“Haha… hahaaa!” he laughs. “That was cool! So cool! How’d you do that?” he asks with genuine curiosity. “I could barely sense any change in your energy, but you hit twice… no, way more than twice as strong as you should have!”

“Secret.” you respond cheekily. Out of the corner of your eye, you… notice Basilea seems to be happy. Her face is still covered with a mask, but you think she’s actually smiling underneath it.

Fu still doesn’t look like he’s out of the fight, but that trick did take its toll on him. Maybe you can keep this up and knock him down for the count.

>A. If you can figure it out, I’ll give ya a cookie. Here, another demonstration to see if you really get it!

“Weeeeell, I guess it’ll require proper observation for me to really figure out, won’t it?” Fu grins and takes his stance.

“You would, wouldn’t you?” You make it look like you’re about to keep fighting… then sneakily give Basilea a thumb’s up as you dash back and fire a quick Rasen Magnum. ‘Keli, take the lead!’

Fu deflects the Ki blast, only for it to be caught by Ki lasso and flung right back at him. “DODONPA!” Keli yells out, using her spare hand to unleash a barrage at him. He’s able to take the hits better than he takes the ones you were able to dish out, but that leaves him open to have his legs caught up by her Ki lasso. Keli yanks hard, tripping him up.

He gets back on his feet, looking annoyed at her. “Okay, rude. Interesting, but rude.” He grabs the lasso and tries to channel electricity through it, though Keli lets go of it just in time and flips back. Fu leaps up and kicks at her, but right before his attack connects, her red aura shifts dark, blackened and surging high.

“SHOTENKEN!” Keli uppercuts with tremendous force, sending Fu rocketing upward. ‘Peppa!’

“RASENKEN!” And you teleport above and slam him back down, full power! He hits hard enough to shake the whole area, leaving a sizable crater where he lands. Yeah, perfect teamwork!

…And you notice Basilea’s finally jumped in, using the distraction from the combo attack to engage with Keli. “So you’re serious about using that power.” she comments. “How far can you push it, though?”

Fu gets back up out of the crater he landed in, watching in astonishment. “Hahahaaa! Now THIS is something worth study! Ooooh I can sense paired Ki in there. How’d you-” You try to thwack him on the head. “Hey!”

“Focus! In the middle of a fight here!” you remind him.

Keli’s got this fight right now. You just need to keep Fu out of it. You chop at him with your left arm, with Fu blocking it, then once more go full power as you push him away from Keli and Basilea. Once the both of you are out of active combat you dash away. “Give them some space. You’re crowing.” you tell him with a cheeky grin.

He grins right back and rubs underneath his nostrils. “Heh, that’s fair enough. I gotta say, I’m really impressed with some of the skills you two have been showing.” He places his arms behind his neck casually. “Not that I’m too worried about losing, buuuut it’s fun seeing all the skills you’ve got.”

…Idea get. ‘Tell me, how much have you been able to pick up so far?’ you question him telepathically.

‘Oho! Well, the Time Patrollers had some fun skills. Still trying to figure out if Buula really was using a form of Time Manipulation…’

That gets you to raise an eyebrow. ‘Like Guldo?’

‘Yeah, yeah! I mean I guess it stands to reason her boss knows some techniques like that, but still impressive for her to pull it off. And then of course, there are what you and Keli have pulled off so far…’ He looks into the ring, and you watch as Keli tries to trip up Basilea, only for the demon girl to avoid it and get right up close, landing some heavy blows on her. Right as Keli attempts the lasso again, Basilea counters with the Devilmite Chains… which latch onto Keli’s arm tight, pulling it down and robbing her of its use. Crap.

‘So that IS Demonic Ki she’s using!’ Fu looks on giddily. ‘Hmhmhm!~ So she’s borrowing the Ki from a demon and combining it with her own, though it’s a surprise her body can handle such a thing.’ He looks like he’s about to jump back in, either to help Basilea or… interview Keli, you’re not sure.

‘You’re a smart guy, what’s your hypothesis on it?’ you inquire.

That gets him to stay in place, Fu looking up curiously. ‘Hmmm… doing such a thing would require substantial Ki control. She did just demonstrate Instant Transmission. Ooooh I get it now!’

That… actually isn’t bad. ‘Try again.’ You see Keli has actually turned things around a bit, having grappled Basilea with the Devilmite Chains AND her Ki lasso. She’s starting to run low on stamina, but… she might be able to do this.

And Fu is completely distracted. ‘Grrhhh… “Ogre Power?”’

Now that’s just silly. ‘Haha… nope.’

‘Deal.’

‘Mmmmh…’ Fu snaps his fingers. ‘AHA! Of course! The pun’s so obvious! Makaio-ken!’

‘You did it! Good job!’ You clap for him… after teleporting into the ring near Basilea. “KELI!”

“HRRAAAHH!” She dropkicks down at Basilea, who was distracted by your sudden appearance, and hits the demon girl right in the gut. Keli then kicks off and back out of combat, while you grapple Basilea from behind and suplex her down on the ground. Rolling away, you get in a fighting stance again before she can retaliate.

“Grh…” Basilea flips back up, dusting herself off. Yeah, she’s definitely getting winded from all this. “So, down to this again, huh?”

“Or you could give up.” you suggest cheekily.

She cracks her knuckles. “We both know that’s never happening.”

“Yep.” Your aura surges around you. “Got any new tricks you’ve been saving up for this?”

“I just might!” Her aura surges too. You might be able to end this here, but you’ll need to be careful. Basilea’s planning something.

You let your power surge out. Okay. Gonna hold off this until Keli’s recovered her stamina. Basilea raises up a finger, making a circle of energy in the air, then spreads her hand, causing it to widen. “I’ve been saving this just for you.”

Okay, some kind of restraining technique? …No, it just keeps widening. It… gets just big enough to fit the ring. She then thrusts her hand down and causes it to slam into the ring. Wait a second… “Okay, that’s different. But you seem to be forgetting something.” You form a Ki drill, kneel down, and try to punch into the ground.

Try to.

Oh. Oh it’s got a barrier. That’s not good. You try to drill harder, but Basilea won’t let you, rushing forward and stabbing towards you with her hands. “Oh I don’t doubt you could manage that eventually, but I’m very, very tired of your gimmick, you little mole.”

On the plus side, this will definitely give you enough time for Keli to recover. On the downside, you’re fairly sure that’s not all there is to this technique. It’s also not hard to avoid her attacks, but you still need to be ready for anything. And eventually, you notice something else. Right as she attempts to punch you in the gut, you feel energy bolt in from another direction. You catch her fist, then deflect a Ki blast that appears to come out of nowhere… and ricochets off the ground and even off the side of the combat zone, and then comes back down after bouncing off an invisible barrier from up high. And it… it just keeps going!

Basilea chuckles. “Heh heh heh heh… you’re gonna have to stay aware of them. Because I don’t know about you, Peppa, but someone here sure does play a mean pinball.”

Crrrraaaaap. Well you HAVE played a few pinball games before, videogames too. Maybe you can treat this like Poke- WOAH! Too close for comfort! You keep avoiding her attacks as the energy pinball bounces around almost at random. And- OH COME ON, THERE’S ANOTHER ONE! And ANOTHER! Now this is just annoying! They keep moving around and you keep having to deflect as you dodge and- Wait. Wait, you can use this! “Then I wonder how many points this is worth!” You duck under Basilea’s next attack as you sense two of them coming, but rather than deflect them AWAY, you deflect them UPWARD! Right into her face!

“GAH!” she whines out in pain. Success. Now you start baiting her into attacking, and even as she’s more aware of what you’re doing, you’re still tricky enough to keep getting her hit with the Ki pinballs. She finally lets out an explosive wave to force them and you back, now on the defensive.

Full power assault time! You try to feint a Super God Fist that you’ll lead into ANOTHER feint when she notices it, but she’s much better prepared for what’s to come. And rather than trying to avoid them, she lets out another Explosive Wave and moves away. Still, you try to make the punch connect but telegraph it out, and yet while you do almost get it to work, your actual attack, a spinning tail strike, is stopped when one of the Ki pinballs hits you right in the tail. “AGH! Ow! Ow ow ow ow ow!” You grab the tip of your tail and blow on it as the pain jolts up your spine.

Looking back, seems Keli still isn’t ready yet. Mnrh. Should you keep stalling? Or try to break this little game she’s made?

“Pinball isn’t just a game, Basilea…” Oh this’ll be GREAT. You’re gonna curl up in a ball and smack into her! “It’s a way of lif-AGH!” You’re beaned in the side by one of the Ki blasts. And then by another. You try to rocket forward anyway, only to be knocked around by the Ki pinballs. Basilea keeps her guard up, but seems rather pleased by the result.

‘Almost ready.’ Keli informs you.

Whew. Finally. Deflecting each attack that comes your way, you try to corral them so they’re all going in a more predictable direction. You then duck down and lunge at Basilea at full force, and while she avoids you, you bounce off the barrier and head back upward. ‘KELI! SPIKE!’

Thankfully, she manages to teleport inside. With her strength steady again, she unleashes her full power with the Makaio-ken and boosts you right back down at her. And as you’re flying down, all the Ki pinballs you knocked away are all headed right back at her with you.

Basilea looks up, and all she can say is, “...Aw crapbaskets.”

You headbutt into her and hit the ground so hard that the barrier finally shatters around you, with the full force of every Ki blast coming down on her as you teleport out of the way and right next to Keli!

…Who drops out of her form and hits the ground with a loud thud. “Agh… h-hah… ow… okay, m-might’ve forced it a bit too hard…”

You float down to her. She’s not suffering any major abnormalities in her Ki, but that did eat away her recovered stamina. Might be able to heal her a bit. But then there’s Basilea… and looks like she’s definitely out of steam. She’s breathing, but she’s not getting up any time soon. If you tend to Keli, she might still be down for the ten count. Or you can hurry Keli out of combat and wait out Basilea’s count, though both will risk Fu finally getting involved again. Or… you can toss Basilea out of the ring while she’s down.

Mmmhh… what to do…?

No, you know exactly what choice you’ll make. You scoop up Keli and start healing her up as you hurry her out of combat. Yet as you do you feel something grab onto your tail, almost causing you to stumble over. Yet you keep moving and pushing forward. You do look back and notice chains wrapped around your tail, heavy ones. Grh. Rude.

“D-don’t… don’t t-turn… y-your back on… on me…” Basilea breathes out, trying to push herself back up, yet failing and flopping back down. “We’re… n-not… finished… yet…” She shivers in pain.

“Aww, don’t be so unsporting, cous!” Fu chides, yet it sounds more like he’s teasing her. “You need a little pick-me-up yourself?”

‘So you have picked up on our healing skills. But tell me, where’d you think we picked them up from, Fu?’ Distract him distract him distract him!

‘Oh! Well, I’d initially think you learned it from Maple or something, buuuuut it looks more like the Yardratian technique now that I’m getting a clearer sense of it.’ He notes. ‘Doesn’t seem as sophisticated as the one Chuu Lee uses though.’

Keli’s energy stabilizes, and she’s able to sit up a bit. “H-hah… thanks, Peppa.”

“No prob, partner.” You stand back up and walk back into the ring. Pilaf counts to seven. ‘While true, I might have some ideas on how to improve it.’

‘Ooooh! Do tell, do tell!’

‘It’s about sharing energy and Ki control, right? Well, maybe one could work it as a sort of… recovery over time thing!’ You have not really managed that yet but it’s gonna keep him thinking.

‘Ah, of course, of course! So it wouldn’t quite be regeneration, but-’

Okay, he’s distracted. You get over to Basilea, the chains removed from your tail. “That was rude, and a bit of a cheap shot.”

“H-heh… almost locked you down though.” She just lays there, panting. You… think she’s smiling, under her mask. “…G-good… good match… Peppa…”

“TEN! Devil Mask is unable to battle!” Pilaf announces.

Fu smacks the side of his head. “D’oh!”

You cross your arms and stare him down. “Well, you still want to keep this going, Mirai Kamen?”

He rolls his shoulders, stretches his arms and legs, and cheerily walks into the ring. “Hey, why not? I figure I’ve still got plenty to see from you.” Using Telekinesis, he gently lifts Basilea up and out of the ring. “Theeeere we go. Sorry cous!”

Basilea weakly flips him off.

“Hah, anyway.” Fu takes his fighting stance again. “What else ya got, Peppa?”

Okay! We are back!

Okay. You’ve got a plan. As your aura surges and sparks up, you crack your knuckles. “Well, you’re so eager to see some of my new skills, so I might as well show off a bit. But I’d like you to show me some of YOUR techniques! Equivalent Exchange!” You dash forward, making it look like you’re going in for a powerful right hook, only for you to Multi-Form apart at the last minute and swerve around him, leaving behind an afterimage that he blocks. You then deliver spin-kicks to either side of him. Fu’s able to block both of those attacks with his arms, though he is intrigued.

“Oooh, another Yardratian technique? Ah, but this one cuts your power-”

“I’m aware!” You and your copy then leave afterimages behind, and with you hiding your Ki, it starts to get hard for him to tell either of you apart from the afterimages.

Fu closes his eyes, breathing in deep. He… then vanishes again! Dang it! You reunite with your copy as you believe you’ve done enough to mask your presence. Now you just need to find HIM. Noticing Ki blasts appear out of nowhere, you recognize what he’s trying to do. Placing your fingers on your forehead, you keep trying to sense out where he is. Come on, come on… there!

Right as he reappears and tries to fill the ring with electricity once more, making the same hand gesture as before, you teleport right in front of him and try to hit him with a Rasenken! …And you see blades of chaotic black energy form in his hands, held reverse-grip style, cross and block your attack. “Well well well! Not bad at all! Buuuut looks like I was just a little too quick on the draw for you!~”

He then breathes fire out of his mouth because OF COURSE he does. Okay. He’s plenty distracted by this. Now’s your chance. “Come on, you’re holding back on me, Mirai Kamen! Henshin even further, show me what Super Mirai Kamen is capable of!”

The energy blades in his hands fade as he seems even more pumped up. “Ooooh okay, okay! Ahem! Here it goes…” He starts to strike a pose as you feel his energy skyrocket even further.

But you then feel Keli teleport to you, healing you up and restoring your strength. ‘I can see what you’re doing, better you do this at as close to your best as possible.’

‘Thanks, partner!’ You power up just a bit further, to make it look like you’re attempting to match him, even showing off Super Saiyan 3. In truth… his power eclipses your own at this point. You’d have thought such a powerup would make the whole area shake, yet it seems very contained, controlled. Trying to overpower him would be foolish, but you’re not actually trying to do that. One shot at this. Only one shot.

With his hair spiked up like a Super Saiyan’s, Fu spreads his arms out wide. “Well? How’s this, Peppa? This is Super Mirai Kamen!”

“It’s unreal. But I’m not backing down. HRRRAAAAAAH!” With your Ki focused in your fists, you make it look like you’re going to go for a Raskenken.

“Hahahahaha! Perfect! Let’s see what trump card you’ve got in store for me!” Fu gets even higher into the air and kicks down at you with… honestly what feels like enough power to level this whole city even if you take the brunt of it.

This is it. This is it! You flicker out of Super Saiyan 3, and that manages to confuse him, as you swerve out of the way of his kick with as much speed as you can muster. He avoids your fist as you aim for his jaw. NOW! Your aura blazes higher, red and gold mixing together like a blazing inferno, as you break your limits and use your other fist to punch Fu right in the face, hitting like a hurricane had compressed into your hand.

Time seems to slow as his mask cracks and rips. Fu stumbles back, but isn’t quite pushed back as hard as you’d hoped. Crap. All that and you simply broke his mask? Just how strong IS he? Yet… Fu starts to laugh. “Haha… hahahaha… HAHAHAHA! What an amazing display!” He looks at you with blood-red eyes, seemingly a result of his transformation. Fu then… materializes a pair of glasses and puts them on. “Well, guess you’ve vanquished Mirai Kamen. Can’t rightly be called that missing the mask now, can I?”

Your body eases a bit as your aura fades. “…Uh. Am I understanding this correctly? Is… is that it?”

His hair returns to normal. “Yeeaaaah, I figure this is a good stopping point for any active participation. Besides, I did this more for fun.” He floats back down to the ring. “Hey, Emperor Pilaf! This has been great, and you’ve been a fantastic host! But I gotta dip out now.”

Pilaf blinks. “O-oh. Well! That sounds like a surrender to me! SON PEPPA AND KELI ADVANCE!”

“Haha! Oh, and as a parting gift.” Fu snaps his fingers, restoring the ring back to normal.

The two of you start to walk back, Fu helping Basilea get back on her feet. You look to him and… recalling just how you won, you have to ask, “…You still could have won this, couldn’t you, Fu?”

He looks back at you and grins, the light catching on his glasses for a brief moment. “Winning in combat isn’t everything.” The light leaves and the look on his face is a bit more cheerful. “But… yeah, maybe? Though it’d take soooooo long to do it by myself, that doesn’t sound fun! Either for me, you, or for those watching.”

“I… see.” That’s not ominous at all. You see Dad and Tarble fist bump as they approach their opponents, chatting with them a bit. The other two just seem relieved that Fu and Basilea lost. Hrmn. ‘So. Be honest. What were you going to wish for?’

‘Hahaaa! Weeeell, cous here was kinda hoping to one-up you on the whole… you know… bringing him back thingy.’ Fu replies telepathically, hands behind his neck. Basilea gives him a glare.

You rub the side of your head, confused. ‘...Why though?’

Basilea… kinda pouts at you. ‘Hmnh. What would knowing that change?’ she attempts to respond cryptically.

‘A lot, obviously?’ You tilt your head and look up at her.

‘One reason is it would show she’s actually been getting stronger, on her own.’ Fu starts to explain. ‘Another is it would have you a little in her debt, and she could hold that over you-’

She grabs him in a headlock as she notices you turn your attention to him. “You’re gonna stop now!”

“Hahaha! Okay, okay!”

‘You haven’t told me what you wanted to wish for.’ you remind Fu.

‘Knowledge.’ he tells you. ‘Knowledge that only the Dragon Balls can give.’

…Well that’s ominous.

“Hey, Peppa, I’m gonna find a place to rest up.” Keli informs you. “You gonna watch your dad’s next fight?”

I am pissed at this development. Why did Fu even sign up if he was going to pull this shit? Why couldn't Basilea have found a partner who was driven to win the tournament instead of this pansy "I was only using 10% of my true power" shit that devalues Peppa's involvement in this tournament? Can't she have a straightforward tourney for once without some bullshit that takes legitimate contenders (like her brother and mom) out of the running, and not have an Asterisk placed by her title of Champion?

It's not enough that Peppa should win a tourney, it's that she should have to earn every step of the way to the top, and if she can't do that, fail.

“Yep! I’ll go get ya when it’s time for teach’s match. But first-” Your stomach growls at you rudely and your focus turns to the buffet table and oh that looks so goooooood.

Keli ruffles your hair. “All right, you do that, kiddo.”

You grab a plate and start to pile up some food again, then get back to the waiting area. Dad and Tarble are already facing off with the two other fighters, with the silver-haired one, Wanta, staying more as a supportive fighter while Paprika, the one with a spiky black mohawk, faces them head-on. Well, mostly Tarble, who’s doing pretty well for himself.

“Galick Gun!” he yells out as he blasts Paprika, who counters by blasting out with a Ki sphere that… kinda reminds you of one of Vegeta’s skills.

And the Saiyan Prince seems to notice that too, letting out a contemplative “Hrmn.” as he watches them fight. “So that’s why he seemed familiar.”

“Is something the matter?” Tien questions him.

“No. Merely a surprise.”

“What is?” you ask him. And Vegeta remains silent.

Raditz tilts his head as he looks back to the match, with Paprika charging a different energy attack, more of a swirling ball of Ki, and flings it at his first attack, the two erupting in an explosion that does succeed in stopping the Galick Gun. “Hrmn…” he mumbles to himself.

Even you start noticing that Paprika… actually does fight in a way similar to Tarble. Huh. Tarble manages to grab Paprika’s leg with his tail and trip him up, but in doing so, Paprika seems to react on impulse and… grabs him right back. With his own tail.

Wanta smacks his forehead. “Damn it. You just had to go by your instincts, didn’t you?”

“Ahaha… whoops!” He backs away from Tarble, tail trying to tuck under his poofy belt, but the jig’s definitely up.

“Wait, you’re… also a Saiyan?” Tarble asks in surprise.

“Huh. I was wondering why he was wearing so much orange cologne…” Nappa remarks. “Must have been to mask his scent.”

You finish up another one of the jalapeno bacon drumsticks. Well that’s neat. But is that all he’s got going on? …No, as he then, to your surprise, hits Tarble with a Dynamite Kick, knocking him back a bit with each explosive hit. Tarble’s able to recover, but then Wanta gets in the ring with them. And after forcing Tarble to keep his distance with another large Ki sphere, Paprika moves back to him.

“Speed up time?” Paprika asks.

“Speed up time. Here goes!” Wanta raises his hand into the air, and with a loud shout and sparks of energy surrounding him, he… seems to give Wanta something akin to the Raio-ken! But there’s something different about it, like it’s not just a speed boost, but an overall boost to his energy as well.

“Ooooh! Now that’s exciting!” Maple cheers a little.

While at first they were fairly even, Tarble keeping a slight edge through skill, now Tarble’s barely able to keep up. And this power doesn’t really seem to fade from Paprika, every attack quick and able to overcome his defenses. Another series of Dynamite Kicks knock Tarble down, and with him down on the ground, Paprika readies one more large Ki blast.

“Come on Tarble, you’re not out yet!” Goku calls out to him. “If he’s gotten faster, stronger, you just need to beat his speed and power at least once, right?”

Tarble’s eyes open wide and he leaps back up on his feet. “Right! Okay, match his speed…” He readies another Galick Gun.

“That won’t work!” Paprika flings the Ki sphere down at Tarble.

“NOW!” Tarble brings the Galick Gun up… and then shoots it downward, rocketing up towards the large ball of energy. With one hand still firing out energy, the other catches the Ki sphere. Paprika attempts to speed around Tarble, getting behind him… but that’s when Tarble springs his trap. Transforming into Super Saiyan, he angles the beam a bit more to reorient himself, then charges at Paprika with the Ki blast, slamming it right into him!

And…

That blasts him right out of the ring!

“Whew!” Tarble exhales, powering down. Dad gives him a proud thumb’s up.

Wanta’s shoulders slouch. “Damn.” He shakes his head. “There’s no way I can face him AND Goku on my own. Guess I’m out too.” He hops out and helps his partner up.

“TARBLE AND SON GOKU ADVANCE!” Pilaf announces.

“Hello Peppa.” you hear a voice call to you. Oh! Well it’s been quite a while since you last saw her.

“Melee! Hey! Jeeze, where’ve you been all this time? She’s been kinda worried about you, y’ know.” You motion over to Keli.

She… smiles sadly at the two of you. “I’m aware. I… certainly have noticed the training the two of you have been through.”

“Training like her Makaio-ken?” you ask specifically.

She nods. “It was a welcome and very sweet surprise. She’s even learned to control Demonic Ki fairly well.”

“Well, we’re about to watch Teach and Mr. Satan’s next match against Vegeta and Tien. You gonna stick around?”

“For as long as I can.” she tells you sadly.

Any tips or tricks on demonic ki control would be helpful to know if Melee has the time. Advice from her could make or break these next few rounds for Keli if she needs to rely on it again. Peppa as her tag-team partner should probably learn any red flags for the ability to know what to look out for.

Sensing the unease in the air, you ask her, “…Okay, something’s up. Do you need to talk? Er, wait.” You gently shake Keli’s shoulder.

“Mnh. Five more minutes…” she mumbles, lazily starting to open her eyes.

“Melee’s here.” you inform her.

Keli’s eyes jolt open and she sits up. “Melee!” She almost leaps at the demon lady and brings her in for a tight hug.

Melee hugs her back tight. “Good to see you again too.”

You smile sweetly at the pair. “So… do you need to talk with us for a bit? Or… just her? I mean I’d just come to let Keli know Teach’s match is about to start, but you’re here now, so...” And now this feels awkward. “Ahem! I mean, while I would like to ask for some info on how to help Keli better manage Demonic Ki, especially any signs to watch out for so we don’t have a repeat of the first time she tried it out-”

“H-hey!” she exclaims with a pout.

“-I know it can wait if there’s something more pressing you want to talk about. And if it’s just for Keli, I can wait for the two of you to finish.”

Melee chuckles softly. “Thank you for that, Peppa. But you can stay. I’ll… try to make this brief. I shouldn’t have to return immediately, but it’s better you know the important bits, before asking for any details later.” She lets go of Keli, once more smiling sadly. “…I came here because I am not sure when I’ll get another chance to. We’ve spent time preparing for Towa’s next plot, and while we don’t have all the answers, we believe part of her goal is having Dabura retake leadership of the Demon Realm. We don’t know HOW she plans to do that. But if that does come to pass, we doubt any who aren’t loyal to them will be allowed… much in the way of free movement.”

Keli frowns. “Oh…”

“I am sorry to be a bit of a downer. But I felt you needed to know the truth.”

“Okay, ah… well, this definitely raises like, soooo many questions, but…” You rub the side of your head. “Wait, I’ve got it. Okay, do you think you could tell my mom about all this? She not only has the time for it, she’d be able to ask better questions than I could.”

“That is fair. I’ll be here.” Melee accepts.

Keli pulls her in for a tight hug. “I’ll… I’ll be back, okay?”

The demon lady places her hand on Keli’s cheek softly. “I know.” They share a quick kiss, and you find yourself smiling warmly. “Best of luck out there.”

“Well with that kind of encouragement, I CAN’T lose!” Keli replies cheerfully.

The two of you walk off, and you start talking with mom. ‘Ghost Pepper to Momma Bird, come in Momma Bird. Melee’s here and she needs to talk with you. Over.’

‘Copy that, Ghost Pepper. I’ll see what I can get from her. Over and out.’

You and Keli get back to the waiting area and already you can sense things starting to heat up in the current match. You spot Mark and Tien clashing in the middle of the ring… and it looks like Tien’s got the upper hand. Every powerful blow Mark attempts, Tien just parries and dodges, then delivers quick but precise jabs that look like they’re adding up.

Chuu Lee keeps her focus, but Vegeta seems fairly confident. They might have a plan.

With a Megaton Punch that misses and shakes the arena, Tien sees his opening. He tries for a quick but strong Ki-fueled punch to Mark’s solar plexus, but his fist is stopped suddenly when he’s grabbed from behind by Chuu Lee, teleporting in and suplexing him to the ground. Vegeta smirks and powers up, launching into the ring with an elbow strike aimed at Mark. Ah, so that’s their strategy. They see him as the weaker foe, so they’ll try to force Teach to protect him, leaving her open.

Except it looks like both of them are well aware of that, as Chuu Lee flips back up and rockets at Vegeta with Tien still grappled and dazed, ramming him into the Saiyan prince. That causes Vegeta to stumble, and allows Mark a chance to actually land a Megaton Punch, right into Tien’s side!

You pump your fist into the air. “Yeah! That’s how you do it!”

Tien and Vegeta pick themselves up, with Tien nodding to the Saiyan prince and ducking out of combat. He waits and starts to meditate, focusing his Ki. Vegeta crosses his arms, powering up into Super Saiyan. “So, who will it be to fall first?”

Mr. Satan looks to Chuu Lee and backs out with a nod, her aura surging white. “I take it you want your rematch, huh Vegeta? Well here I am.” She takes her fighting stance. “Last time I beat you, I ended up World Champ. Right now? Mark and I are Mifan Champs. You’ve got a pretty steep mountain to climb.”

“I’ve grown strong enough to see it as nothing more than a low hill.” Vegeta boasts, the two of them launching at one another. A flurry of blows are unleashed as they up the intensity of their fight, dashing all through the arena. And… Chuu Lee manages to land the first few solid hits! Wind-boosted kicks to Vegeta’s torso followed by a sledgehammer blow that sends him down. Vegeta lands on his feet and forms Ki blasts in his hands, rapidly firing them up at her. Chuu Lee teleports down, and Vegeta attempts a quick elbow strike… only for her to dodge it and uppercut him with a Shotenken!

“Yeah! Great job, Chuu Lee!” mom cheers.

Well. Vegeta’s not at full power just yet, but… Mark and Chuu Lee might be able to do this. Come on, Teach!

Constructive Criticism is my hobby. It's a true fact that Chuu Lee won a lot of times off-screen, and other characters keep vocally idolizing her. "When Chuu Lee isn't on-screen, characters should be asking, 'Where's Chuu Lee?'" Anyhow, if she can't walk all the talk right here with us as witnesses, something's wrong with her.

As for the second part, their last victory was super costly, and if one tourney match is costly when you have more within the day, winning it is ultimately pyrrhic. Acknowledging that you wouldn't be able to make the next fight if you have to give everything and more to win the current one is what surrendering is for.

Sure, it'd be cool if every tournament match had an all-out attack from both sides, but as far as the tournament itself goes, it makes less and less sense to go all-out every time, you're losing what resources your body is capable of with each match.

Like, last tourney Maple opted out of the finals cuz she got stabbed, but with how quickly the teams seem to be recovering in this tag tourney, it seems as though her absence was simply to make the final battle royale less complicated.

Hooh. Sorry about the delay, lot happened today. But we are back!

Vegeta stops in midair, rubbing his cheek. “Hmnh. Is that all? I expected a harder hit than that.”

“Conserving my strength for when it matters.” Chuu Lee retorts.

“Oh it already does matter.” His aura blazes and sparks up. “I’ve barely even tried yet.” Blasting down, Vegeta tries for a grapple, and while she avoids it, he quickly brings his hands together and unleashes a powerful beam. Chuu Lee is able to block that, but just as soon as she does, Tien gets in the ring and sends out the Spirit Bits towards her, blasting all around her.

Mr. Satan jumps in again, trying to get Tien off of her, but the triclops’ superior skills keep him just a step ahead. And eventually, he’s forced to get out of the ring after Tien ducks out, unable to really offer much aid. You notice that Chuu Lee’s… kinda stiff, too. Huh?

“Damn. Pulling out one of my tricks.” mom comments.

“The ol’ Lightning-enhanced Spirit Bits.” Acer nods. “Not bad. Didn’t know he learned that.”

Vegeta gets in close and manages a fierce gut-strike before she’s able to recover, Chuu Lee forced back and wincing. Mnh. Come on, Teach…

‘I think so. Seeing a lot of surprises here, though.’ she affirms.

‘What insight are you gleaming?’

She rubs her chin. ‘Master Tien’s always been focused on teaching us the basics through the Crane School, but he would also always encourage us to pick up on other skills alongside them. It’s one reason why I’ve delved into understanding Chuu Lee’s techniques. We always knew he was doing the same, but I think he’s really gonna go all-out with them here. With someone like Vegeta as his partner, he’d kinda have to. Still… I guess that can also mean he’s the more unpredictable of the pair. Chuu Lee meanwhile is doing her best to synergize with Mark, and that’s definitely working in their favor, given what we say in their last match. However… to overcome Tien and Vegeta, they’ll probably need to divide and conquer.’

You sense out the battlefield. There’s still a lot of fight left in the heavy hitters, yet neither are going all-out just yet, as Chuu Lee and Vegeta continue to clash. ‘Maybe they want to bait out Vegeta into using all his power? Recall last match, getting Godzilla and Gamera into the ring and time-outing both of them. That could be their strategy… hrmn, but to what end?’

‘All that power is bound to be dangerous. Maybe they could catch Master Tien in friendly fire? Though he’s not the type to let that slip into play. Or… maybe that’s just it. He’s the one they’re concerned about, and are baiting out Vegeta’s sense or pride in order to take him out of the picture.’ She crosses her arms as she sees Vegeta unleash a flurry of Ki blasts at Chuu Lee, though this time she actually dodges and swerves around them all, yet seems to draw them in close to her as winds build up around her hands, the Ki blasts actually trailing behind her. And then… she pulls her hands back for one of her classic moves.

“SHINKU! KAMEHAMEHA!” She launches the attack forward, and sends Vegeta’s Ki blasts right back at him!

…And then Tien gets in the ring again, and seems to chant something that ups Vegeta’s defenses right at the last minute. Dang. Mr. Satan charges into the ring again, this time with a red aura flaring up around him. “…TIMES TWENTY, EXPLOSIVE ELBOW!” He goes right for Tien, full force, as Chuu Lee quickly occupies Vegeta’s attention with an Izumi Combo. Ooh, this looks like it could do some real damage!

…But Mark’s attack never connects, and you frown as you sense what’s coming. Tien splits into four with the Multi-form and dodges into four different directions. Mark has to stop himself in midair, almost stumbling forward. The copies then recombine behind him. With his hands up near his face. “SOLAR FLARE!”

Blinded briefly, Mark is distracted just long enough for Tien to go full power and hit him with a Machinegun punch combo that dazes him further, followed by, to your surprise, that same spiraling sphere of Ki that Vegeta used slamming right into Mr. Satan’s chest and launching him out of the ring.

Chuu Lee tries to stop it, breaking from her focus on Vegeta and trying to use Wind Magic to pull the spiraling sphere back into the ring… but it’s too late. Mark hits the ground, panting and groaning. He’s out.

Videl clenches her fist. “Dad…”

Tien places his arms behind his back and walks out of combat, giving Vegeta a nod. The Saiyan prince turns to face Chuu Lee, smirking. “Looks like it’s two against one, now. You still think you have what it takes to win this?”

She looks down solemnly. “Sorry, Mark.” Her white aura surging up around her again, she stares Vegeta down. “I’ll win this match for the both of us, then!”

>B. Damn. That was risky, and it almost worked, but Tien was just too quick on the draw…
