In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law? Is it like the hand of God hovering above? At least, it is true that man has no control, even over his own will.

Alas, they are certainly welcome to try and struggle to deviate from the laws of causality. Such is the case for a human mortal by the name of Vlad Santana. A young male who would find himself at the crux of a story that would eclipse his mere mortal soul.

After fighting with Guts and trying to figure out the origins of your powers with him, learning a bit more about elves as well as the earthly spirits that walk this earth, the mercenary from The Band Of The Falcons uncharacteristically declared his exit from Griffith's army.
"Where are you going?" You try to get out of bed as Guts leaves the room, but the strain on your body from gifting him your life energy proves to be exhausting, seeing as you managed to heal his light and moderate wounds at the cost of your own life force.

"...Away. I appreciate you healing my wounds, would have made the walk downstairs a lot harder on me, I even considered waiting a few days to get better, but thanks to you that won't be the case. Griffith and the Band don't really need me anymore, so I think it's time for me to leave. Pursue a dream of my own, one that would make him proud, and see me as his equal."

"What?" You stare confusedly at the man leaning at the door of his room. For what reason would he want to abandon the group at the height of not only his, but all of the kingdom's history?

"Surely you've noticed how focused Griffith is on his dream, right? I've overhead his conversations with the princess a few times. He said something about how he can't consider us friends since we have no bigger dreams to accomplish in life. And that's when I came to realise that I... never lived for another reason than not wanting to die. It has been a long time coming, but I need some time for myself. To re-evaluate my life from this point since. Maybe then this feeling of always being beneath him would go away, and we would finally be comrades."

Guts seems very motivated in figuring his life out, improving on his mental state, but he seems to really underestimate his value on the team, surely if he just left without warning people would not only miss him, but grow angry at his sudden disappearance in Griffith's victory march into noblehood.

"What made you come to this decision?" You ask quizically, a guy like Guts leaving the band surely was no last minute decision, let alone when he's cherished by his friends and his leader.

"Griffith's dream was to earn his own kingdom. It was a long, arduous journey that he surely didn't do by himself, but the fact that he managed to get this far after how many years of trial and error shows that he not only managed to motivate himself, but also help countless others along the way. That includes me, a man who had no purpose in life before meeting him."

"I admit that I hated him for including me in a dream I had no part of. But his drive, the warmth of finally participating in a greater mission, something that would be more glorious than being a mere mercenary taking heads to earn his money until the day he died. I was feeling merit to my actions, but I also grew aware that if it wasn't for Griffith's guidance... I would live a life with no purpose. The one I looked up to would always look down on me, for not finding value in myself." Guts speaks the truth of his heart as he recollects on how his life has been nothing but mindless fighting for a dream that was not even his.

You never would've guessed that someone seen as such an undefeatable beacon of strength in the Falcons would be struggling deeply inside his own head.
"I see. You've more than deserved a good time for yourself then, just make sure you let the others know why you're doing this." You give him some words of advice.

"Of course, Corkus and Judeau were planning on going to a tavern with me in a bit, should be plenty of time to explain myself to them and say my goodbyes." Guts prepares to leave you in his room until you ask him one more question.

"Is there anything I could do to help you on your journey?"
"...Nothing at the moment." Guts closes the door as he gets lost in his own thoughts, leaving you to wonder what the world would throw onto his path.

It does take a few attempts to stand up by shoving your upper body forward with your arms, but you've built enough pain tolerance climbing mountains to endure a few sore spots if you take your time, slowly exiting the building and following Guts around with your eyes from afar. Thankfully Casca stopped him before the entrance for a talk and the streets were empty enough for you to know where he was going at all times. After stopping short before the door to take a breather, you meet a good portion of Griffith's soldiers chatting and drinking their worries away, with Corkus, Judeau and Guts being in a table next to the windows.

"Well, if it ain't Mr knight in training himself... Thought you would forget about your humble origins when got your promotion." Judeau lifts his mug and gives you a cheer.
"Took you a while to get out of Guts' room, didn't it? What, did you get a crush on him? Hah!" Corkus chuckles from the other end of the table before catching sight of a cute waitress on the bar, tugging at her arm midway through an order to see if he could flirt with her.

"Try to ease up on the drinks, will you? Drunk and tired is not a good combination." Guts worries about your wellbeing before cutting himself a piece of cheese from the block.

>I'm not drinking, but some food would be nice.

"I'm not drinking, just here for a good talk. But some food will be nice. Miss, could you please serve me a good portion of the soup they're having?" You ask the woman being targeted by Corkus, to which she replies by flicking his hand away and bowing with a smile.

"Yes, Sir. Is there anything else you would like to order?"

"I want to give these guys here a couple rounds, compensate for me not being able to drink with them."
"Fine by me." Corkus smiles.
"I appreciate it, Vlad." Judeau returns the favor by offering you a seat next to Guts, who was contemplaying on how to best explain his leave from the band.

"Hey, if Guts ain't taking it, there's no problem with giving some to me, right?"
"Yeah, me too! I've been in the band for a while, can you be a buddy ang give me a drink too?"
"Seems like you've underestimated how many people from our group love to drink!" Judeau laughs as a group of men pressure you into paying a few more drinks than you should've, but given the overall festive mood, you don't want to be the one to ruin their night.

>Your generosity came at the cost of being the clientele's paypiggy, and though 2 silver coins is nothing compared to your vast fortune, you can't shake the feeling that they took advantage of your patronage. Total Earnings: 149 Gold Coins. 28 silver coins.

"Didn't think you were this good at partying, buddy. You got more energy than the folks I knew from my old bandit group." Corkus chugs down on his last mug of beer.
"This isn't the first time I hang out in lower class establishments, they have a bit of a cozy charm to them. In a way it makes it feel safer than drinking at a wine cellar. You reply to Corkus, recollecting on your past memories in places like these. Despite him being a prick sometimes, you feel like he has an appreciation for the simple things in life, which you can respect.

"So why are you leaving? Are you dissatisfied with something?" Judeau inquires Guts on his motives, seems like they initiaded the topic while you were busy fumbling with your money.

"Why would I be? This group has given a wandering mercenary like me a sense of comradery for 3 years. It's been fun. No way I'm dissatisfied, I just want to--"

"What more could you want in life than this?" Corkus slams his feet at the table. You can get anything for free in Wyndham if you say you're a commander of the band. Go to any bar, inn or weaponsmith! They love us here! We're heroes of the damn kingdom! Just give the old king some time to mourn and we'll be living in the court for the rest of our lives. We finally made it! After all those days of nearly getting beheaded. All those sleepless knights getting ready to die, we've made it! And you want to throw it all away? For what stupid reason you would do that?"

>Not everyone wants to live the same life.
>It should be easier to find a goal in life when you have money and power.
>Why are you upset? It's his choice to make.

"I'm not interested in growing in ranks or classes, if I did I would have been the commander of the Falcons a lot earlier in my career." Guts began his counter-argument, but Corkus wasn't done venting his frustrations.

"And who do you think you own that to? Griffith is special, someone that commoners like we were could only hope to be like. All of this was possible because of Griffith!"

"And that's exactly why I need to leave. I have been fighting this entire time for the sake of another man's dream, when I could be fighting my own battles, earning something for myself."

"And that's exactly why you're a BRAT!" Corkus angrily kicks his chair away as he stands up and slams both hands on the table, knocking some of his food on it. "Do you really think you can find something for yourself that's better than what we have? If it were that easy, no one would suffer for wanting to be happy! Wake the hell up, only a handful of people get to be winners in life, and the rest have to come to terms with their reality and make do with their battered wishes! Having a dream means nothing when you're a weakling who can't face the facts! If you lived this long and still haven't thought of any dreams for yourself, whatever goal you can come up with is meant to be broken!"

"...You seem to be talking from experience here. Does that mean that you don't have something like that to push you forward?" Those two simple sentences were enough to destroy Corkus and his monologue, making him angry enough to leave the tavern.

"To hell with this. I'm done for the night, Judeau, have fun with this big baby while he's still here. Bartender! put the bill on my tab!"
>>
>>5130528
The desk is silent for a while before Judeau tries to lift the mood after the argument.

"Your guess got to him, Guts. Corkus ran a bandit group of around 10 men in the slums, most of them didn't make it until Griffith recruited him and a few of his pals. And given how you ended up killing one of his friends during your entrance here. It's only natural he has some pent up resentment."

"No hard feelings. Maybe there was something he wanted to earn for himself too, I guess he was trying to warn me of the consequences in his own way."

"There's not a single person in the band that didn't want anything. Just look at me for instance, since I knew I wasn't the best at anything I did, I just thought it would be good to support someone above me. I'm pretty happy with where I am right now, but I wonder if I would have found a dream of my own out there, or spent my whole life chasing it..." Judeau admits in contemplation.

"Well, guess I've rattled for long enough here. Time to hit the road." Guts lost the mood to celebrate after that whole debacle, which Judeau and yourself can surely understand.

Judeau helps you move out of the tavern, seeing how you were having trouble keeping up with their speed and adapting the stride into a slower walk, making the most out of the situation to see if he could get a reaction out of Guts.

"Hey Vlad. What do you think of Casca?"
Casca? This came out of left field, but so far you havent thought much of the female commander, most likely due to not interacting with her a lot, but trick question or not, women are always a fun topic to discuss.

"I respect her as much as any of you, flanking an enemy castle is no easy task." You acknowledge her prowess as a fighter, this is the first time you've seen a woman in the battlefield too, so watching her be toe to toe with the other two strong commanders of the Falcons is nothing to scoff at. "She seems to care a lot about Guts and Griffith though. I assume she's taken?"

"Well she might as well be." Judeau laughs. "Even the other chicks at the ball were ogling her."
"No surprise there, she's a total cutie."
"Pretty sure half of the band and the kingdom would agree with you on that."

"It's hard to find a woman you can trust to watch your back on the battlefield, but I see her as a comrade more than a woman." Guts speaks up, only to correct himself. "No... That's not it. It's more that she only has her eyes on Griffith. If I want to be any good for her, I need to sort myself out."
So he does have a crush on her, but will she even wait for him?

"I do think you have hopes with Casca. Deep down she knows she's out of league against Princess Charlotte. There's nothing Casca can offer politically to him, and she knows her feelings are irrelevant to his kingdom." Judeau ponders if Casca even has a place in Griffith's heart when Charlotte seems to be a match for him.

"I doubt she could live happily longing for a man she can't have. Her feelings go beyond mere love or attraction. Being saved by him and given a new life, she worships him more than anything else. But she's a fine woman. No doubt better than the noble girls that only know how to play dress up."
No doubt he could take her with him if he asked to, but with his hands tied on finding a goal for himself, it's better to leave her safely here and not put her in danger.

Approaching the front gate of Wyndham the sun soon starts to rise again as the two approach the outskirts of the city, with Guts not returning with Judeau.
"You sure you want to go all the way out? You've been with me for the entire night." Guts asks, worrying if you can go far in the snowy mountains and make your way back as you are now.

While you've rested enough on the bench to go there, you do remember that you'll have a full day of training to welcome you when you return to your estate, so saving your energies could do you well.

"Yeah, you're right. I might be going stronger, but my body doesn't run on infinite energy. Suppose I should take it easy and rest until my training. So long, Guts. I wish you the best on your journey." You stop before the gate and say your goodbyes.

"Same to you, partner. If we met at an earlier point in our lives, I have no doubt you would have been a good comander for the band. Maybe even taking our goals in consideration, you seem to be looking for something deep within yourself too. Maybe that's the closest to an equal I could have between the nobles for now."

These words struck deep meaning within you. Should you have taken more action in your life before this point, would your fate have been different? Could you really see yourself among these band of soldiers in any other way aside from an extreme situation like your parents being kidnapped by enemy forces? If the strongest of them seems to be in a similar spot in life as you are, maybe the difference in class you have has less meaning when you share the same problems in different contexts.

"I know you don't want to live here for now, but I'd gladly welcome you in my home. You've more than earned a place to stay after all your fights."
"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Especially after you helped me consider my options." Guts parts ways with you as he climbs towards the hills, where his group of friends seems to be waiting for their warm farewells.

If anything, him promising to better himself only motivated you further in finishing the remaining year of training you still have to become a royal knight, so after taking a quick nap when going home, Gallahad wakes you up and explains how the rest of your training will go.

"Now that you're in your second month, I want you to keep focusing on your physical training, you already have great results as is, but that's not a reason to fall behind. Training unarmed combat and how to hold a sword is essential, even if you don't plan on using that sort of weapon, it's good to have something to use when your primary option is unavailable. Being an all rounder is tough, but so is being a one trick pony."

"When you've mastered all those 3 aspects by your fourth month, we shall teach you all the political background of our land for 2 more months while you train in isolation in the military camp. Once half a year has passsed, that's when you'll go on your pilgrimage, to prove you can survive on your own. Try to come back with something of worth to our land or the king, the waiting period is between 6 months to a year, if you come back with nothing to prove, or don't come back at all, the counsel will revoke your status as a knight. Any questions?"

We should make a note to take some books on economics, trading, and farming as reading materials on our travels. Learning how farming works could help us figure out what we need to get the farmers that live on our lands, and trading is always a good "trade skill" to learn. Bartering and haggling too.

"What should I look for in my pilgrimage? Do all knights have to come back with something big?"

"I'd say so. It doesnt have to be anything specific, maybe you've taken down an evil viscount, found some treasurable values and offered them to the King, saved a village from a group of enemies, anything that gives you weight and a vote of confidence by a large group of people, or someone of leverage. Alternatively, you could partake in a mission with the Holy See, or with some other mission the King might want you to take care of in private should he trust you enough for it."

"Is that how you passed on your exam?"
"Sort of, I've lived most of my life as a lumberjack, going day to day knocking down trees with my axe, it wasn't until I've had a little accident in a swamp that I got noticed by the Holy See. That's how I met your parents and served them for a while, they were approaching the infested swamp of the occultists to take down the dark magicians that lived there, and I managed to help them escape as they laid a curse on the spell to ward off intruders. After I served you people for a few years, I applied for a place at the king's castle, but it was hard to think of something to stand out at this day and age, I might be all brawn, but my old raggedy face is a good way to scare anyone I offer my help."

"So what did you do?"
"Well, when my waiting period was about to end, I got news that the royal family needed protection from a group of pirates during a visit at the docs, and the damn looters sure weren't kidding around. Dozens of them came in with ships and all, started pillageing the place and taking all the women and children. Most of the other soldiers lost their heads, but that's when I came in and started turning the tides, until I noticed the pirates aiming a cannon ball right at poor little Charlotte!"

"So you got the knight role by saving her from the cannon?"
"Hell no! That would have been too easy! I stopped the cannon ball myself. With my bare hands!" Gallahad put his hands above his body and mimicks the motion he did to stop the iron ball way back when. "Even managed to save a building from being destroyed back there."
"What? No way!"
"I'm serious! Broke just about every bone I had in my ribcage though, but that wasn't nearly the end of it. I knew I could stop 10 more of those and it wouldn't stop them pirates from attacking elsewhere, so I entered one of the ships myself and started taking out them from the inside!"
"But how did you fight the pirates in that state?"

"I took most of the blows, but the fun part about getting impaled by weapons, is that the weight of the blade becomes much lighter when you chop off the part that's not stuck to your body. I had a few cutlasses going over me by the time I was finished, by I managed to kill every pirate on that ship, and use the cannon they had there to destroy the others, gave them a taste of their own medicine. By the time my vision was blurry, only one of the pirate's ship was left ashore, fleeing and cursing me for taking them out singlehandedly. And from that day forward, I was known by the royal family as Gallahad The Unmoving. I don't like the nickname myself, makes me look like I did nothing on that fight, but I guess when you stop a cannon ball from hitting the princess by yourself, that's going to stick in the eyes of the crowd. My lower back sure moved a ton when that sonuvabitch hit me... It's why I can't take too many blows to the chest nowadays."

Amazing! How did Gallahad not die from all of that? He must have been training his body to the absolute limit if your training is anything to go by. If that's the body he has after over a century of doing these trials, the King sure knows how to pick the best of the best to protect him, and even if Gallahad is past his prime, you would hate to be the one to fight against him.

There was plenty of discussion about the (de)merits of Farnesse in the last thread. She could still be useful to at least be friendly with in the political sense. Despite her being practically worthless in that way on her own, her family is still someone to have on your side. They'd be trying to take advantage of the positive relationship just as much as we would, though.

I say we wander among the people for the first few months of the waiting period and only take a mission from the See at the end. It'll probably be wisest to keep our options open and leave the leadership with some question about our loyalty/amenability to their cause, especially after what happened to our parents. We'll probably collect a few great feats, the See'll just be a feather in the cap.

They can dodge a ball, but what if you can do a volley of it? Like about 30 going off combined with blunderbuss and matchlocks peasant army. Also having every peasant have a hunting gun and industrial output of blackpowder.
So people can kill bad things from a distance and have explosives.

Honestly making a professional army for Vlad's family and his lands would extremely help us after the Eclipse and keeping our people safe

It won't help with the apostles or the really scary demons but having an actually properly trained and equipped force would definitely make it easier to survive and fend off lesser demon and monster attacks.

Something like the troll army wouldn't have a good time running into a handful of culverins or carronades behind a wall of pikes and muskets. Even if we aren't leaning into powder weapons, the discipline alone matters a lot. A cohesive fighting force is a much more effective fighting force.

"I sure hope I can do something as cool as that. I doubt anyone would have believed you if Charlotte wasn't there." You congratulate your teacher, albeit backhandedly so.
"Heh, You're not that far off, kid. Give it a few years and maybe you can try something similar." Gallahad playfully implies you can have a moment of glory for yourself, but given how the last time you fought went, your fights will be anything but regular if your pattern is anything to go by.

"Can you tell me anything about the other Royal Knights? What did the others do on their pilgrimage?"
"I don't think any of them went as ax-crazy with their feats as me. Although there is one warrior who no doubt could take me down in my prime. Do you know about Locus, The Moonlight Knight?"
"The mightiest knight of Midland? You've met him personally?" You're surprised to hear that the King has even the unbeatable knight of the kingdom under his feet.
"Only once, I had to lead him to the swamp of the occultists to see if he could fight the last of the Silver Eyed Clan. He's a man that never lost a single battle in his lifetime, so I thought it would be an honor to see him fight a demonic creature like the one on the swamp, but can you believe me that he looked at me dead in the eye when we arrived there, and told me that he wouldn't fight the occultist?"

"This is not my fight to win. The sorcerer that lies within this forest is waiting for her own knight to fight. We must not interfere in her ritual, or their fated encounters." Gallahad repeats word for word what Locus told him, before he abandoned the lumberjack to fight for another master.

"So he just left without even trying to fight? That's disappointing..."
"If you ask me, he was probably scared of losing a fight too big for him, damn coward. I've seen what those cursed occultists do, but if the king tells you to take care of them, the least you could do is try to enter the swamp."

"Anyway, I hear he fought in countless duels and contests to make a name for himself during his pilgrimage, so you can imagine how pissed off I was for missing out on the one time I could see him fight there."

"What's so special about this swamp, anyway? Why are there occultists there?"
"It happened a little bit after you were born, I suppose the Iron Chain Knights are trying to keep this a secret from the public, but a clan of nomad occultists from Tudor started entering Midland and lodged themselves in that swamp. They're known for practicing witchcraft and having grey, silver eyes. Your father and I tried to invade that swamp and stop their blasphemous ways, but just when we thought we had them, one of them made a spell that turned the entire place into a pool of red gush. The trees turned into flesh and every one of them turned into a blob of skin and guts. Anyone that got close to them would turn into a similar fleshy monster, a mere drop of blood dropping on your nose would be enough to corrupt you. It was a horrible sight, seeing all those husks of human beings being turned into a pile of orifices... I don't know how your father and I managed to escape in one piece."

Blobs of flesh, red pools of blood... This is not unlike the visions you've saw every now and then. Could it be that they're related...?

"Every turn of the year, the flesh creatures from the swamp grow larger in size and stronger in numbers, The See has tried to send several of their soldires there to try and neutralize the thread, but so far they've had no luck. Some tell that one single occultist still lives there and tries to keep the flesh alive, using the defeated knights' souls as sacrifices to feed the foul creature. The last of the silver eyed clan goes by the name of Merlina. Were I still young, I would personally go there myself and try to put an end to that wench's plans, but time is not kind to us old folks."

Merlina... The name does not ring a bell, but it does sound like the type of threat that would come from outside the physical capabilities of a regular human. You wonder if you could investigate the place personally.

"Well, that's enough chit-chat for today. Let's start with your training for today! What will it be? Want to learn how to fight with a sword or with your fists first?"

Men can win, but is a difficult battle with so many monsters, demons and what not. Like dragons being a thing for example, or other mythological creatures.

There needs to be some reorganization for survive or even win fights, not only for the military but even social and economical. A good&disciplined fighting force than can stand ground and make the enemy bleed both in range and melee, is certainly valuable but .... with feudal lands and settlements of all kinds all around, and with a lot of wild terrain (forests ecc) it becomes difficult to keep up against this foes for defend our people. The economy of the world will also take a hit, making trade/travel more costly and many lords and states will be more preoccupied with keeping their authority and lands, while defending themselves from this new enemy.

I think it's less about what is more optimal in a fight and more about what provides a better foundation and has more transferable skills. I'm no expert, but I assume learning to fight bare handed first will help prevent us from developing bad habits or relying too much on weapons... since fists are the only weapon that can't be separated from us without also maiming us.

It also might be a good branching point for more Od shenanigans.

You don't prepare so you can face the worst possible circumstance, you prepare so you can avoid it.
We're training both swords and hand to hand, but should we also train to fight with one arm?
It's entirely possible that we could lose an arm, so why not focus on training one armed fighting to do better in that circumstance?
It's also possible that our legs could be broken, so perhaps we should start walking on crutches in preparation?
I'm not opposed to hand to hand training, I just think your reasoning is flawed.

But that's the thing non, you don't get to decide what you do and do not get to avoid sometimes. Sometimes there's just no avoiding something, like the inevitability that we are gonna get caught with our pants down at atleast one point, unarmed.
>>
>>5131025
>but should we also train to fight with one arm?
If you train properly with something that doesn't require two arms to work then you know how to fight with one arm. That point kind of flounders.

>so perhaps we should start walking on crutches in preparation?
That's a much better point. So yes we should start training with crutches. I keep one of those windshield breaker/seatbelt cutters in my car. I live in the desert. I still want it in case there is a flash flood and my car gets swept away into a newly formed lake or something. Just because something is unlikely, or even borderline impossible doesn't mean it is foolish or irresponsible to prepare for it. It may not be ideal but it is in no way to be frowned upon. It's why you buy earthquake insurance even when you aren't on a fault line. Or wear a helmet when you ride a bike.

Call it silly, but never call it stupid.

The diet of a knight is one for the martial elite. And they where quite active, be in fighting or out of them. So our strength and constitution should raise by simply being a knight or with fighting/training if that makes sense,

Historical knights were absolute units.
It's all the wealth and connections of nobility filtered into making someone into the pinnacle of physical prowess.

The second month of training went down smoothly, fighting with a sword seems to be a lot easier for striking hits compared to the lances. Instead of only piercing with the tip of the weapon while using the pole for blocking, swatting or for acrobatics, the blade of the sword sacrifices range and precision for slashing power and for your strikes to still be lethal even if you swing instead of thrusting. It's a weapon that requires less precision, but the weight of it feels unnatural compared to a lance. You're already too comfortable to change your main weapon, but perhaps you could practice with a bardiche instead? Slashing does seem very useful...

The third month of training was everything but successful. It was as if Gallahad wanted to train you to stop cannon balls on the daily. The first thing he did was bring you to a nearby forest and tell you to punch a tree trunk until you managed to snap the tree down. Punch after punch after punch, your hands only managed to bleed and get hurt by several splinters as the oak trees only shook with your hits. You tried doing more push-ups, enhancing your wrist strength, and even punching with gauntlets, nothing seemed to take the tree down.

"Maybe your body's just built for the acrobatics. Here, let me show you how it's done." With a few stretches, a staredown between Gallahad and the tree trunk, and a roar of "TIIMBEEER!" The royal knight managed to punch the tree down in a single, focused punch.
"Still got it! Don't recommend doing this for actual lumber work, there's a big chance you lose some of the wood from the fall."

Since you were better with your legs, you suggested training your kicks with him while fighting one on one in unarmed combat. Terrible idea. Your hits on him were more like light taps on a brick wall while his punches felt more like a mace being bludgeoned on your body. That month of training felt more like you were waking up just to get beaten into a pulp by him, and you couldn't wait for it to be over.
"You can't win 'em all, kid. Look on the bright side, you didn't break any bones. Got some resistance training done even if your own punches don't do much. If anything, just stick to your weapons, so long as you draw first, you'll be fine."
Yeah, right...

On one afternoon, going home early from another unproductive training session, you were greeted by an unusual visitor in your estate, observing the flowers being watered by your garden servants and admiring the tapestry from the outside.

"Good afternoon, Vlad. I was hoping we could catch up on our affairs. It sure has been a while since we've last met."

>Of course, come on in.

"Of course Griffith, come on in!" You invite your former ally into your home, taking it slow so he could have his fun observing the flora around the garden. "How do you like the place?"

"The outside is surprisingly spaceous, even if your house is already very wide in size. Have you ever thought of building other foundations outside of the garden?"

"The garden was smaller before I was born, the chapel had to be reduced in size since my dad wanted me to go outside more often when he was traveling. Seeing all the different colors helped me calm down when I was a child, but now that I dont have much use for it anymore, they've been thinking of making a guest house for visitors."

"What an amusing family balance. Religion, Business, and Chivalry. All three pillars of our society, neatly represented by the members of the Santana family... Even when classes divide us, there are a lot of options to take in one's life. It really seems to be impossible to live the same life twice, or two completely substitute one's place." Griffith ponders on your current bearings after walking around the house, taking a stop at the dining table where the servants were preparing your dinner.

"I managed to talk with your parents before you arrived. They really seem to be doing better than ever after our victory. I bet seeing you come to your own must have been the highlight of their lives, even if it's not the same field of work they have."
"I only have their patience to thank for. I was a big brat for most of my teenage years, mostly from lack of communication, but now that I found something to strive for, it's been turning my whole life around in more ways than one."

"Is that so...? Griffith helps himself to a glass of water left on the dining hall. "And what do you plan to do when you become a knight? Are you doing it for the prestige, or do you have a particular mission in mind? Perhaps the title should give you some status to elevate your name to an even higher plane than your parents, but what do you plan to do after that?"

>I'd like to travel around, get to know the world for a bit.
>Sit back and relax. The title alone should let me live comfortable so long as I do my job.
>Investing in my mother's marketplace could be useful for the kingdom.
>I would like to establish a better relationship between Vritannis and the Holy See with the Santana family.

Wouldn't really suggest bearing our souls to Griffith--the necklace of doom gives Vlad plenty of reasons not to trust him with his inner thoughts and motivations--and whether or not we actually wind up hunting down the occultist it'll serve to put him off our scent for a bit.

"I simply want to make the world a better place, Griffith. There are many things that hide in the darkness of our world, fear mongering children and creating senseless violence. And though I don't like to be violent myself, I realized during the siege that peace can't be reached through inaction, if Midland is to prosper, we all must do our parts. And my part will be to take down the Silver Eyed Merlina. After that, maybe I could find peace in traveling around the land, finding more adventures along the way and grow with the people I meet. Excuse my rambling Griffith, a future king such as you shouldn't listen to such lofty, elaborate plans for the future."

"By all means, the more complex they are, the more you'll yearn to see them bear fruit." Griffith sits down as a servant offers you both some cups of tea. "I'm surprised you already see me as the king. Our majesty hasn't even made a proper announcement yet... The only kingdom I can conquer is the ones at chessboards."

"Chess, huh? I haven't played much, but I know the rules."
"Were you to choose one piece that fit the most with you, who would it be?"
"Have you seen how I ride Gunpowder? Of course I'm the knight."
"Ah yes, the knight. A powerful piece no game can begin without. The chessboard needs to be filled for both parties to play equally. However, if we were to start a game with you, I would unfortunately have to point out your lack of sportsmanship. Given how you've taken away the knight from my side of the board."

It takes you a few sips of your tea to realize what Griffith meant by that statement. A simple look at his expression when you put down your teacup shows that he's shifted into a more aggressive stance, holding his hands next to his scabbard as he leans towards your face.

He thinks you're somehow related with Guts leaving the Falcons. And given how you're the one that spent the most time with him before he left, he suspects you might have been sabotaging his relationships from inside.

"Initially, I was estatic to see a noble who had a dream in development, maybe I could find someone to be my equal. But what I didn't realize about having equals, is that they might want to climb above you while you're left to pick up the pieces. And that's when equals... become competitors."

Your next few words could greatly shift Griffith's opinion of you, if not make him furious to the point of attacking you in your own estate.

>I didn't take Guts away from the band. He left of his own accord.
>I thought you parted ways amicably?
>No need for violence, Griffith. I'm on your side.
>Shout for your guards.
>Disarm Griffith.

"Guts wished to become your equal, Griffith. He told me as such. I was surprised as you were to hear that he'd leave your side, but his reasons were sound." You calmly explain what happened between you and Guts. "He left of his own accord. I thought it was you who said that for someone to be your equal, they should strive to have a dream of their own--"

"I KNOW WHAT I SAID!" Griffith raises his voice as his emotions reached a boiling point. It was very out of character to see a man so calculating, reduced to such childish outbursts. "Had I been aware that he was there hearing my conversation with Charlotte, I would have worded things differently. Should Guts find a dream of his own... Should he aspire to be my equal, he would never come back to the place he was previously..."

"How can you be so sure?" You ask while the leader laments on his loss of what should be a mere soldier of countless of his.
"Guts is different from the others. I've known that since the start. He... I... For all these years..." Griffith stumbles through his words as twin streams of tears fall from his cheeks, his hands moving away from his sword and covering his face, not wishing to be seen in such a pitiful state.
"He was the only one that ever made me waver, reconsider my dream, and even forget it entirely. I know what the pursue of dreams does to men like me. All the paranoia, the weight of all your losses, the corpses piling up on your every step... I was merely protecting him... all of them from having to carry that burden. It's not a weight every man is born to carry, and that is why I wanted him to be mine forever. I couldnt stand the thought of him leaving!"

Surely you were expecting a fierce confrontation from Griffith, maybe for him to keep shifting the blame to you. Hell, even for a fight to break out. But for him to break under pressure so easily... It must have been something that's been eating away at him for the past two months. Had he not have a noble acquaintance to speak this out to, you can only wonder of what he would have done to sabotage himself with his isolation of his own creation.

>Slowly take his sword away from him.
>Did you see Guts as more than a friend to you?
>Does this really matter when your dream is so nearly in sight? Only a few more days and the king will announce your ceremony with Charlotte.
>You should be proud of serving as his motivator. Not lamenting his leave.

I can have messanger find him every few months, but I can assure you without a doubt he will come back. Reiterating what I just said, you can be absolutely sure he'll come back, because he values your friendship that much.

Nothing. If you know the person. We kinda don't. This is in fact the only time we've ever been alone with him. And probably the longest conversation we've ever had as well. At least with Guts we got to know him through the ritual known as beating the snot out of each other. You have to take your relationships in steps, anon.

Cannons already exist. Cannons also work well as fuck. If it can bring down five feet of stone it can take down something whose skin is still able to be cut with blades. Why wouldn't we try to shoot the ten foot tall goats with one?
>>
>>5131765
because apostle cant be cut by blades, gut´s is special in that his blade was drenched in blood from magical beings and weights more than a canon ball. still i keep saying canons work but flint pistols wont. they dont have enough power to penetrate apostle skin, it might work for things like trolls and so but not for the big stuff wich can solo armies. that is why i want vlad to become a magic knigth so he can solo those monsters

Physical contact strikes me as to much, also do not forget about the egg of the king people, I am still worried Vlad astrally wounded himself when he spent a fraction of a section checking if Griffith died from that poison.
I think we derailed things a bit? We must be past the point Griffith bangs the princess a good deal so assuming we are successful in calming him down the god hand will have to go to plan B, Guessing they might tug at possibility or order a apostle knight to make sure the assassinations Griffith ordered suddenly get revealed at the worst moment to make sure he gets that torture vacation, the eclipse needs to happen at a specific time if I remember right so they need to act soon.
>>
>>5131770
Not all apostles are created equal. And we have seen apostles get killed by mundane weapons before. Notably the bitch who kills Corkus gets a new breathing hole for her brain from Guts' cannon.

So yes, I do think cannons are a great idea. Also we see that Guts' crossbow can annoy or even inflict light damage on apostles. That shitty little tiny repeater crossbow. Repeater crossbows which are notoriously weaker than regular ones, and at that size likely has a piss poor draw weight manages to harass apostles.

Not every apostle is Grunbeld, man. It's more likely that the apostles will show up in human form anyway and attack when any local forces have their guard down. So if we do have muskets in universe, or arquebus, or any number of early era firearms I will propose we use them.
>>
>>5131765
supporting your arguement. much of the damages is resulted from bandits, kushian terror units, smaller monsters and wandering minor apostles.
I was thinking more statecraft where we use money and resources to open up more jobs.
So lets say we need an army with large caliber muskets.
We need to order from blacksmiths who needs more resources and manpower to produce the needed armaments,we also need the alchemists and niter farmers to make gunpowder, we need loads of cattle for the urine and wastes, thus we need to hire more people.
By having more job openings in every step of production,we lower possibility of people turning to crime. we also need people in the army, so it is a jobs ,jobs and more jobs.
which in turn create more jobs as more farmers are needed to grow food, more craftsmen to build stuff, more merchants to supply demands, more of every job brewer to baker, shepherd to butcher, copers (horse dealer) to coopers (barrel makers).
It is an all round dwarf fortress economy to solidify our holdings as we go heroing and chivalry with our home guard of well armed men with large gauge double barrel matchlocks that can blast down a full grown grizzly bear.
It is not just us but our serfs, peasants, citizens and tax payers safety. And if a peasant can kill atleast 5 goblins with a home hunting gun,you got yourself a ready defensive militia.

Also,have y'all noticed something wrong?
Coffee,Chocolate,Rum all seem like out of place goods.
Even if there is goods like these, they can be very expensive. Except rum because it can be locally made distilled liquor. Also after noticing some of the words,I can safely say that Vlad has partial isekaitis.

>>
>>5131793
but you only need one of those durable for pistol or rifles to not work, and your army is fucked.
And you are forgetting apostle are smart enough to use their superpowers in a way that lets them kill armies, either durability and tank shit or super velocity to avoid the attacks. guts is a special case in which he has enough willpower to fight through the worst, a normal soldier won't be able to face apostles no matter what they use. a fooking peasent wont be able to do anything but shit their pants. so instead of wasting life´s of peasants we raise our armies with cannons if you want, but for the love of the holy see dont go on this quest as if uplifting the technology would solve anything
>>
>>5131810
that one is up to the peasants,we can invest some cash to have some shares of the profit in honey, mead and coin.

>>5131815
It increases survival odds should shit and guts hit the windmill blades.
If it really gets bad, a general evacuation is needed. But atleast the peasants can hold on their own on smaller numeroues beasties.
Also the barrels of powder can be use as a final "See you in hell demon." suicide bombs should the monsters swarm into the village/town/place.
>>
>>5131824
no anon, it wont increase shit. its wasted money for people who at the first sign of danger run like bitches, remember that trolls can be hurt by sword just fine but the peasants let their women be kidnapped and raped. stop thinking berserk world is something like warhammer, it has some similarities but vlad won't be sigmar or magnus.
>>
>>5131815
Dude, the apostles aren't the godhand. If they get caught out and eat an entire fucking volley of musket fire they're swiss cheese. Most of them cannot take that kind of heat. Only the notably tough and strong ones could actually honestly fight a properly armed and prepared army. Even then you don't see them walking around with their dicks out, Zodd excluded because he's a fucking chad.

Yes, the thing that makes apostles truly scary is their hax ass abilities. But then having guns or not doesn't make a difference so your argument is completely pointless. Why have any soldiers at all when one apostle can shit in the dirt and have ten million demon ants eat our soldiers alive in their sleep?

It's better to have the best you can because they're gonna get their shit rocked regardless but maybe, just maybe one of them can get lucky. And a regular ass peasant with a pitchfork just trying to defend his home isn't going to get lucky. This is what training is for. And if you're going to train them then you need to give them the tools they learned how to use in their training.
>>
>>5131830
because in canon that is what happening to the world, no nation is faring good, the only nation which is peaceful is falconia because griffith is using an apostle armie. and anon you are thinking that most apostle can't shrug off bullets? after every apostle show in the manga has been demonstrated to have durability, speed and strength that makes them able to kill dozens of people.

You are thinking we would have ar-15 with anti tank rounds after spending a thousand gold anon? because that is the type of guns which would work against them, volleys of flint rifle won't do shit to them.

Bah, to stop this pointless debate lets ask qm, becchi, can you put your word in this? do apostle can be harmed by some flint pistol or revolver? not counting canons, those are proven to work
>>
>>5131835
*flint pistol or rifle
>>
>>5131826
then we have to be it anyway. the reason why those peasants let their women and food be taken is because it is a shocking event for them.
You expected wolves and bad humans to hurt your village. Not rapey monsters and tall things and other bad shit. They shat their pants when magic critters started ruining their normal lives of working, eating, drinking, shagging and dying.
Vlad is part of the Holy See as of now right? Perhaps form his own knight order of specially trained men (and women) for snipe hunts.
Probably has to put some zeal of god in them so they do not falter when faced with monsters, but severe hate and anger.

So yeah, have to train the peasants to stand their ground with propaganda and stuff. Good thing about medieval feudal times is you can go full ham North Korea or Reich Germany or Stalinium and people think you are heroic.
>>
>>5131835
Stop being hyperbolic, no one is saying half the shit you are saying.

There are humans who can kill apostles without magic weapons or anachronistic shit in universe. Why the fuck wouldn't a musket work?

A musket which could blow through a steel breastplate can't possibly punch through the meat of a half-demon that can be stabbed to death with a knife. Get the fuck out of here.

If they exist they would work. That's what I've been saying this whole time. Not "invent the puckle gun" or "let's make it just like modern times" just "use the tools we have to their fullest extent". You need to chill the fuck out.
>>
>>5131839
>Vlad is part of the Holy See as of now right?
no he is not, he is training to be a knight.
>So yeah, have to train the peasants to stand their ground with propaganda and stuff.
Instead of wasting time in peasants, why not become a powerful fighter with our own army of magic knights? what is your obsession with the peasants in berserk? all of them won't do shit, they either emigrate from the problem if you can't resolve it yourself or worse, blame you for it
>>5131843
>There are humans who can kill apostles without magic weapons or anachronistic shit in universe. Why the fuck wouldn't a musket work?

Because the average human can't face half the shit that is happening in the astral world, because flint weapons are inaccurate and wont damage apostle´s as a normal magic spell would do And because apostle were humans before and if you invent guns which do affect the, they would steal them and use them against you. like griffith is doing in canon. ffs sake anon, tis like you haven't seeing berserk. And those people who defeat/kill apostle are not the normal.
>>
>>5131843
>A musket which could blow through a steel breastplate can't possibly punch through the meat of a half-demon that can be stabbed to death with a knife. Get the fuck out of here.

Read the manga again anon, in the show it has been stated that apostle are though/strong/fast enough to avoid the knife and tank it. arrows don't work on them. and they can destroy plate armour without needing to go at sound breaking speed.
Also, they aren't half demons, i don't want to discuss with someone who doesn't read the source material and only wants to make berserk into "le warhammer fantasy" .
>>
>>5131849
>Because the average human can't face half the shit that is happening in the astral world
That is what training is for. Literally that's it. You train people so that regardless of what is happening in front of them their bodies kick into gear to do something. In this case, kill the bad guys.

>because flint weapons are inaccurate
It's called massed fire, anon. And they aren't as inaccurate as you think.

>wont damage apostle´s as a normal magic spell would do
Non-magic weapons can hurt apostles.

>they would steal them and use them against you
That's great, I don't give a fuck. Then they'd be over there, not getting in the lines and turning people into shit zombies or something so they could get shot at even more. That's a fucking win in my book.

"Even then he could settle down as a minor noble, or create a new mercenary company for live an acceptable life. Since he is now a knight and was one of your officers, so I have no doubts he could accomplish it."
"Guts at the head of another company might just double your forces in a campaign for example, don t need to fear he strikes in the back you like other mercenaries companies do or that he asks far more in a contract hahaha"
"It has passed a while though since we didn't see him, maybe we could send him some letters ? I am sure a merchant can read them for him if needed. And the reputation he has should make it easy for a messanger to find him."

>That is what training is for. Literally that's it. You train people so that regardless of what is happening in front of them their bodies kick into gear to do something. In this case, kill the bad guys.
oohhhh, well, read the manga and you might see how the trained soldiers do, cause canon falconia is killing everything no matter the resistance. no amount of training would make a peasant or regular soldier face off apostle/dragons or bullshit

>It's called massed fire, anon. And they aren't as inaccurate as you think.
Let's say you have this apostle surrendered, he is close enough so the bullets can hit it and they are accurate enough, you have a 5 line formation which keeps pumping musket balls, so he is getting some wounds.
Now you have to handle their regeneration, their ability to keep fighting even after fatal wounds and worse, another apostle is coming to murder your formation.

>Non-magic weapons can hurt apostles.
not if used by normal humans, like i said canon manga has show us that griffith´s demon army is currently raping everybody else not allied to falconia

>That's great, I don't give a fuck. Then they'd be over there, not getting in the lines and turning people into shit zombies or something so they could get shot at even more. That's a fucking win in my book.

You know why Griffith is doing so well? Because he is a fucking unbelievably good tactician and strategist and he has the strongest fighters on his side. Even if they weren't inhuman monsters he would be tearing everyone a new one. So yes, training would help.

Bro you could ventilate an apostles skull with a musket ball. Great regen from a corpse. Also the only apostle I can remember that had notably exceptional regeneration is Zodd.

Non magical humans have killed apostles in the manga. Without magical weapons.

I am respecting the source material. You're the one getting your panties in a twist and bringing up other settings. If you don't like the turn of phrase I am using just say "I don't think that applies" and I'll tell you to fuck off and keep using it anyway because I want to.

>>5131868
Anon the medieval era had guns. A bit pedantic I know but the late medieval period specifically had what most people would have considered the earliest firearms. If you want the really dank shit like fire lances you go even further back into high medieval period.

Yeah let's not go touching Griffith's shoulder - we don't know him nearly well enough for that.
Besides, look how unstable he is. Let's just not.

Also, maybe we could start wearing metal bracers under our sleeves? Or better yet light chain under the clothes. Just in case. After what Griffith said about 'competitors' and his emotional state I thin ka bit of paranoia is justified.
>>
>>5131892
>But I would prefer we remain at a decent distance with him, without touching him, and keeping an eye on the sword.
This is a wise man right here. Keep watching his eyes, too. Usually it's pretty clear in someone's eyes when they want to do you harm.
>>
>>5131889
I understand that, but this setting isn't one that is portraying regular medieval. There is magic and fantasy as well.
My problem with trying to introduce them is that they will either be too overpowered or under-powered so that they don't kill everything. And I don't want to participate in Berserk but with guns.
>>
>>5131903
That's fair. That's also why I've been saying "if they exist". I'm not trying to introduce them to the world. I know Miura never outright stated there were guns in verse but I don't recall him ever saying they didn't exist either. I never saw all the interviews or his comments though.

I was just pointing it out because I like history trivia.
>>
>>5131889
last time i will answer to you.
Armies in Berserk have cannons already. The only innovation of Guts' arm cannon is its miniature size and trigger mechanism. Grunbeld has one too. Inexplicably, there are no other hand guns. All other hand weapons used by armies are bows and crossbows even though they could obviously make handguns with existing technology. The problem with the full size cannons is they have the same problems they did in real life for several centuries. In the Midland-Tudor Hundred Year War we mostly saw 15th-century style breech-loading hoop cannons with primitive gun carriages. Their power is devastating against massed formations and fortified walls, but they're cumbersome to set up or transport, and relatively inaccurate. In those times cannons would sometimes explode from having flaws in the steel or being loaded with too much powder. Griffith's cannons being made in Falconia as well as the cannons on the Seahorse look like cast cannon of the 17th-early 19th centuries and are mounted on lighter wheeled carriages. That's a step up, but as we saw in the Sea God arc there are some monsters so big that even cannons can't fell the monster on their own. Perhaps the bigger problem is that many apostles are fast moving targets, and unless you set up a perfect ambush they would be able to dodge and close in.

With this i am done. i don't care anymore
>>
>>5131919
That sucks. The idea of muskets and guns are interesting, but Vlad himself has no know how on how to make one, or who to hire to get musket rifles into production. There's also the problem of muskets eventually phasing armor our due to bullets going through most lightly armored humans. Politics is shit and I don't know how to feel about guns in setting.
Lets just cast magic missile?
>>
>>5131919
>Inexplicably, there are no other hand guns.
Rickert has that rocket thing. Which is technically and even earlier type of weapon than the cannon IIRC. Just thought I'd point that out since he uses it pretty much the same way Guts uses his hand cannon.

Most apostles really aren't that impressive though. Like killing a dozen men is a great feat - for a human. But they're still not so far above humanity that they are unassailable. And if they are marching properly as an army then it would be prudent to send some volleys of cannonfire their way. Whether it's an army comprised solely of apostles or a mixed army containing human followers there would still inevitably be casualties from it. Don't misinterpret this as me saying it would instantly win the war or even the battle. Merely pointing out that all the tools we have at our disposal should be used. And it is disadvantageous not to.

And I never intended for us to go to war with Griffith and his army anyway. All this was for Kushan or independent groups of monsters/demons.

Lastly, thank you for coming to this in a mature and grounded manner. It's much more productive this way, no?
>>
I fucking go to sleep for a few hours and the first thing I see when I wake up is anons arguing each other with walls of text. Classic /qst/.
>>
>>5131939
Just trying to make you feel at home, anon.
>>
>>5131865
Didn't think I would wake up to a gun argument but I can give my 2 cents on it.
It is weird how the berserk verse has enough gunpowder to make explosives and cannons, but not use them for flint guns and alike. Most likely their encounters with the astral and the use of magic made them evolve differently than our real world counterparts. No need to invent a hydrogen bomb when casting a giant wheel of fire can do the job better.

The only time flint guns could have sensibly be shown in canon would be with the pirates given how they're the ones with the most firearm capabilities but given how early rifles took forever to reload, had low range, bad aim and shoddy bullet quality, maybe that's for the best.

For the sake of not wanting to deviate too much from the setting, I'll say that going Bloodborne on the enemies with flint guns is bordering on it's boundaries. Maybe when Rickert starts becoming a mech genius he can push the land into an industrial age since he managed to figure out how to make flamethrowers and more advance machinery, but for now the best gun you're going to find is Guts' cannon arm.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I want to get back to writing sociopath Griffith.

>>5131576
>You should be proud of serving as his motivator. Not lamenting his leave.

You gently clasp at Griffith's shoulder, hoping to give him some comfort while he feels devoid of all his defenses. Honestly, you're not the best person for counseling given your lack of deep social connections, but it hurts to see a man in such a miserable condition, and you should do whatever you can to improve his mood.

"A caged bird will dream of the freedom of the sky, but the loyal hawk will always return to its roost no matter how far it may wander. Guts is a simple man, he will surely think of simple goals. It's too early to judge his decisions, but I doubt he will become a monster or lose his heart in pursuit of what he settles on. Perhaps he'll even return to you ready to receive your praises on becoming a fine man on his own. The least you could do is have as much faith in him as he has in you."

In truth, you wanted to say more. But you were unsure if your first array of words even got through to him. All he responded in return was a few whimpers as his mind started shutting down due to his current stress. A long period of awkward silence permeates through your dining hall, as you keep your arm over the poor commander, waiting for him to let all of his misery out his system. But eventually. Eventually, he recovered his composure and spoke in his usual calm, neutral fashion, making you wonder how he can shift between emotions so smoothly.

"I am glad we've had this conversation. It's good to know that you really are on my side. Had I proceeded with what I came here to do without first lending you my ear. Things would have ended much darker between the two of us." Griffith shows you a vial with a small quantity of white powder inside... Was he planning on poisoning you with it?

"Vengeance is a terrifying force for the human psyche. I have been watching you closely ever since he left. Wondering how best to dispose of you, wondering if it was even worth the hassle, wondering if you were my enemy or not. It could be that instead of saving yourself today, you were the one to save me from myself. Although should you ever attempt to double cross me, I'll have the church be notified of your little secret."

Secret!? You mean that for all these months... With all of your time practicing your Od sensing, Griffith found a way to stalk you without you feeling his presence? You thought the egg of the king would have been a way to always know where he was at!
>>

"You aren't nearly as cautious as you think you are, dear Vlad. Had your only mistake be to fall unconscious in my tent, I could assume that you were merely having a panic attack, or had an underlying condition. But seeing how Guts wanted to see your 'true colors' so badly... It only made me wonder on what he meant by that, it's very unlike him to test his opponents instead of just finishing the fight. Your sparring match and the way Guts was healed of all his wounds in just the span of a day... Maybe most of my men would not notice since they didn't watch your fight together. I am not like most men, and you should have known this by now."

"...You're a wizard. Aren't you, dear Vlad? To think that the Santanas would hide a magician under their household while serving as a pillar in the fight against the blasphemous pagans--"
"Quiet!" You order him to shut his mouth before any of your servants could overhear the conversation. "How did you manage to watch over my training?"
"You tend to train from Sunday to Monday, correct? The mornings are usally where you're in peak condition, but it's during night times where you drop your guard around your home, exhausted from a day's worth of practice, you always tend to your trusty horse when he is worn out with your magic hands. Given how this is your home and you know when the servants are asleep, you have no need to be cautious around your territory since you were never in any danger of getting caught. All I had to do was to be out of your sight. After all, I did not mean any harm. I was only watching you peacefully."

How could this be? He has studied your routine better than you could have studied his, all without needing to sense for Od. Did he know about that ability as well?

"You can relax. I would only weaponize this information in the worst case scenario. For now, we are still friends in arms, correct? Officially, I only came here to invite your for my wedding with Princess Charlotte on the sabbath. It is an important event where the king will announce me as his heir, and it is only a matter of time before he comes to pass after that encounter. At least you managed to save me the trouble of buying more of this expensive concoction..." He smiles as he plays around with the vial in his hands.

"I can expect you to be there for me in this glorious event, no?"

While QM is penning the next paragraph.
We have to decide whom to marry for what. With Vlad being a freehearted sort of fellow (abit schizo due to his childhood now I think about it), he probably needs to marry someone from a minor nobility or landed knight or some one he will meet.
And to rebuke QM arguement, I propose we use our money to hire blacksmiths that can make or create smaller cannons. vlad got cash to fund R&D.

Well that s threath.
Yes he did expose himself revealing what he wanted to do case in case we manipulated Guts and he doesn't want to take out as anymore. But he is still putting a threath. To us, our house. Our parents. This isn't something you can just not care of.
So while Vlad isn't particulary hostile as a man, he isn't dumb or weak. A nobleman can't simply pass a threath and should show some level of defense, yes verbal defense in this case preferably. Even if this is enough for a man to punch someone in the face, and he would be right and justified to do so. But regardless any response given wouldn't be "kind" now, it can't be unless is well false.
This attacks Vlad, his family and possesions. I think that we should make our points by walking, to the place of our family garden with the famous statue of the pegasus and the kraken.
Tell him that Pegasus in myths are quite protective and defensive, of the things they love and often proud. It should give a message, meaning "I have no reason or desire to be an enemy. But i keep always my guard high, and I will remember this, do not act against me or the Santana, or give a threath again when I welcome you here don t dare to spit on us. I will not be on your side at that point" but not said.

>"I think you have understand this story well, yes ? It s very important for my house, and one i like the most."
>"In regard to the ceremony i will be there. But do remember that one doesn't make friends at all with threaths, Lord Griffith. true. but Griffith being a stalker isn't out of the picture.
Hopefully this conversation with us gave him enough ego wank not to bed the princess before his wedding night.
If he still does it, Vlad better pack his bags or face getting accused of witchcraft by a pissy Griffith because the king himself is angry.
>>
>>5132098
My guess would be that Griffith goes full on schizo and kills a bunch of nobles who don't support him and a bunch of people he just suspects, that leads to something bad happening to him, peasant revolt, could be anything really. Also somehow we manage to bang the princess charlotte during that time.

Not exactly waifuism as it is called political betrothal. When you could die and leave your family without a heir, a betrothal to another minor nobility also gives you political ties with another family. A confirm marriage can net you assets you don't have or expand your holdings.
All part of the Game. The Game of Thrones. (corny ain't it?)

If he wants to throw us to the See with witchcraft, we can do the same with the Egg. One is a solid thing on his neck, the other is a proof without solid evidence since our magic isn't solid. "I have seen him"
That is not much, and Vlad bad reputation is of a drunkard/casanova, witchcraft doesn't fit well with that.
We would use our family connections too, and we don't look bad in the eyes of the church beside this possible accusation.
He could likely be a stalker, but due to him being very active in politics, studying, personal training and being a commander of an army he has likely delegate more than once tasks. With spying being one

"Griffith. Not only have you threatened a friend and ally, but his entire family and estate. I don't think friendships can function based on those terms. That road is one usually used for enemies." You give a stern talk to Griffith, being cautious not to push him to the edge, nor to tempt him to flee and expose your magic ways.

You direct him again to the garden, this time showing the sculpture of the flying Pegasus and the blue Kraken behind the hedges.
"The kraken symbolizes the corruption of our world and the unknown forces that might bring my family down, the pegasus shows our undying resolve in pursuit of reaching for the skies, challenging our odds against our favor. You understand that by opposing me, you are fitting more in line with the image of a Kraken than a Falcon's, right?"

Griffith quickly understands the callous message in your fable. He has greatly underestimated your growth and your desire to protect your family. And though you don't intend to blackmail him, he is just as vulnerable with your info on him as you are with his.

"A bold power move, if I do say so myself." Griffith grits his teeth. "Perhaps I might have started with an extra pawn instead of a Knight in my chessboard, but I did forget the golden rule. When a pawn crosses over the other side of the board, it can choose to be whatever piece it wishes to be. But be warned. Should you ever force me into a check. Know that I would rather end our play with a stalemate, than a checkmate." Griffith stands up, threatening to bring you down with him should you ever incriminate the mercenary group.

"It has been nice chatting with you, Vlad. I apologize for taking too much of your time. I'll be seeing you this Saturday morning."
"Don't do anything you might regret." Are the final words you utter to your previous master.

And with that, the soon to be king takes his leave. Making you second guess the man you've been supporting for all this time. How can he change so fast in switching between his emotions? What made him be so cunning? Has he always been like this? You can only hope he has it in him to cease his manipulative tactics once he ascends to royalty.

Reluctantly. You decide to go to his wedding. Where tragedy would soon seal your fates into that cursed stalemate.
>>
>>5132150
>Where tragedy would soon seal your fates into that cursed stalemate.
Oh fuck, there goes the chance of us becoming a knight
Does anyone have any idea on how to run away from the palace, get our family and retainers and then flee the city?

A punch would be too hostile but:
*back handed slap*
"I understand your actions and I hold no ill will towards you because of them Lord Griffith. You saw a possible enemy in the guise of an ally and acted accordingly. I truly could have been a dangerous enemy, one that even lucky charms would not have protected you from... Even though Im glad that this is not the case, know that we Santanas do not appreciate HYPOTHETICAL threats.
Also, I thank you for pointing out a grave weak spot of mine that I'll be sure to correct. See you at the ceremony."

Though you had problems previously when entering churches, the temple in which the king decided to use for the ceremony posed no adverse response to your body or soul. It could be that you were developing some resistance to negative energy, or maybe your astral healing from Sivir has been protetcting you for far longer than expected.

Regardless, the chapel was nothing short of immaculate, the glass panels were neatly decorated with images of angels and other religious figures, the food and beverages were all fresh and delicious, and all of the band's long time workers were there to celebrate this occasion.

The music started playing from the orchestra, Charlotte walked up the altar, Griffith exchanged his vows, and before the priest could seal their hearts together and let them lean into a kiss--

"HALT! Don't you let this man lay a finger on Princess Charlotte!" Gallahad bursts his way into the house of God. Carrying with him a short bald man on his shoulder, who appeared to be Foss...

"Gallahad! What is the meaning of this interruption?" The king shouts as the guests' voice are raised to an uproar.
"Apologies, my liege. But after all these months of searching. I have finally found a lead on who killed Queen Beatrix Marie Rhody Wyndham. And it was no other than the man who holds the princess in his arms as we speak!" The knight points his finger to Griffith, who was gripping Charlotte's arms with enough force to snap the poor girl's bones in half. "And it was all thanks to little ol' Foss over here and his confession."

Foss explains how during the ball celebrating Midland's victory over Tudor, the queen was planning on poisoning Griffith during the party. The white haired commander caught wind of this, and made a deal with Foss to change the substance into a non lethal narcotic, or else his kidnapped daughter would suffer in the hands of his torturers.
"And wouldn't you know it? Upon investigating his room, we found the same poison they were planning to use on Griffith's home!"
"I was planning to lay low and not reveal this information, but knowing how he has the poison now. It's too dangerous to let this man roam free when he plays to take the king's life to rule Midland with no opposition!"

The uproar soon turns into chaos as the king turns red in anger with Foss' confession while Gallahad proudly beams in confidence, intercepting the King's poisoning before it could ever happen.
"Griffith... Is that true?" Charlotte places a hand on his face, as Griffith quivers in his indecision. His plans of treason had failed, and now he was facing life in prison, if not worse from his treacherous actions. His dreams of being a king disappearing in real time from his sight.

GRIFFITH YOU FUCKING DOOOFUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

holy shiet, i know he killed the queen but the plan of murdering the king must be from a third party since he was already on the path of kinghood.

Also, do we plan to save the band of the hawk and griffith?
>>
>>5132195
No, he said himself he was going to poison the king as well.
>it is only a matter of time before he comes to pass after that encounter. At least you managed to save me the trouble of buying more of this expensive concoction..."
We have to start thinking how to bullshit our way out of this, since he is foing to accuse us of witchcraft.
Maybe say that he is trying to hurt the legitimacy of Gallahad since he is our mentor.
>>
>>5132199
Basically we need to shut him down and keep the pressure on him, make sure that everyone knows he's crazy and deflecting.
He's going to lash out like a cornered animal but if we keep our composure he shouldn't be able to take us down.
Unfortunately there's probably already some suspicion of our magic in the See, and rumors will persist regardless.
>>
>>5132195
>>5132199
>>5132203
We could always try to deflect away from both of us to prevent mutual destruction.
After all, Foss is a known schemer and his own claims against griffith could "easily" be seen as attempts to prevent a commoner from rising through the ranks. He was anti-griffith from the start, and could very easily access anything necessary to "frame" griffith. Why, he could even plant a poison to be conveniently found, could he not?
Tell me, what has this "Foss" done to ensure the success of Midland compared to Griffith? Which of the two has consistently put life and limb on the line for the kingdom?
>>
>>5132208
This is a good idea (not counting law of causality, which Vlad isn't aware)
The question is: would Vlad defend Griffith? He knows the guy's guilty.
But if he does this, he better say something quickly before Griff loses it
>>
>>5132208
That could work, but I think Griffith is about to take a giant shit on the chances of that happening.

"Coward that you are, Vlad Santana! To think I would not suspect that this was your doing when your messager is your own trainer!" Griffith wrongfully connects the dots and thinks you were the one to denounce his acts.

"What?! I played no part in this! I didn't even suspect that you were the one who killed Queen Beatrix-"

"Don't you lie to me! The truth has now been revealed! And with that, it's only fair that I give you my side of the story in retribution." Griffith climbs down the altar and makes a plead to the audience.

"Ladies and gentlemen. Don't any of you find strange how a noble, known to be a complete buffon no less. Suddenly turns into a knightly hero by miraculously defeating several enemies in a warfield when he has no prior experience? It is almost too good to be true, as illogical as a fairy tale filled with magical entities... Only a true wizard, known by practicing all sorts of magic, would be able to manipulate the odds in his favor. To go from a nobody to a growing power in our nation. Open your eyes, people! The man you call Vlad Santana is a wizard! He's been impersonating me with his magic and trying to usurp the throne for himself! It could be that he has ties with the occultists of the swamp."

This is ridiculous! How could he shift the blame onto you so quickly after you gave him your word that you would not double cross him!? For a man so afraid of betrayal, he's always the one to draw the sword first. Does he think that he has so much influence that he can name drop a new culprit and people will automatically believe him?

"I have spoken with Jacopo and Michelle personally. Gallahad and Jacopo were on a mission to erradicate the silver eyed clan from our land, before the swamp got infested with terrible flesh creatures. It is possible one of them escaped and tried to live as a homunculus, corrupting the minds of a noble couple who believed to be infertile, along with their knight, who planned to keep them secret as he became a royal knight. All in an elaborate plan, so set all of Midland into ruin! It's why he always fainted in churches! It's why he never left his chambers aside from looking for women to feast upon! It's why there was only one of us on the infirmary after I was poisoned at the ball! He's a rotten sinner to the very core!"
Griffith completely swerves the court in his favor, his on the spot thinking and already favorable position in the eyes of the band and the royal family against your shoddy upbringing proving to work against you.
The guards approach the two of you, unsure on who to apprehend first.

>Liar! You have no proof on any of those claims!
>Then how can I be standing inside this very temple as we speak?
>Look at my eyes! They're hazel! How can I be from the silver eyed clan?
>The flesh creatures from the swamp are cursed! If I was a monster, the disease would already have contaminated the city!
>Attack Griffith.
>Flee from the guards.
>>
>>5132158
I think Gallahad would probably say we can be call a knight after saving our family anyway. I am glad we have stand our ground.
The Pegasus will not stand idle with the Kraken.

Beside that idk. I am not sure if it can work out honestly, the city is large. We also don"t know about the cursed stalemate so let see it first ok ? It may work in our favour.

Also i think "Take the Shield, Raise the Spear" works well for Vlad theme.

>>5132195
For what purpose ? Griffith has give us a threat and his true colors have been show, he has also killed the queen of our realm. Due to his obsession of power, it s not unlikely he planned to kill even the king. Who gives a threat to someone and ask to be a friend after ? He is nuts. The order of the Phoenix knights, i am not sure but they aren't Griffith for starter. Maybe they can be saved. Problem is, Griffith will no doubt think we have betray him because Gallahad is our teacher. So the breaking happens anyway, and he said he will bring us down if he goes down. Defending him becomes impossible, if he start acting like a mad men. The power obsession has warped his mind, same for the egg remember that.

>>5132199
His accusation has little proof on us. We don't even have books on magic for that matter. Beside we have our own firepower to use, and we are going to use it if he tries. And I doubt that egg will remain with him, if the church takes it and burns it.

More like getting as far away from the localized Eye of Terror. But also to start preparing for war as this is the beginning of Dark Times.
This is the era where kings lay hands upon their children, dukes consorting with demonic powers, rampant zealotry of the church, huge rise in paganistic orgies.
Midland is going into a dark age. An age of insecurity. Vlad need to protect his home (where is his home located in midland anyway? need some mapping. even the manga was like somewhere and there.) from bad shit and arm up the peasants. Sucks that gunpowder weapons somewhat restricted and no way to arm the peasants with guns.

I wasn't saying of fleeing right now, but moving them away from the capital, since we just mad some strong enemies and they aren't safe here anymore. (Aslo preparing for when magic start to come back, if we have a corner like some island in bumfuck nowhere, it will be easier to fortify, but that's a meta reason)
Although a plan on how to flee is also good, screw getting imprisioned
>>
>>5132418
Well then if we can't use quantity in the form of Vlad's peasants being levy the best alternative is an elite force and quick response unit loyal to Vlad and Vlad only, for example:
Varangian Guard
Cathapracs Cavalry
Jannisaries
Winged Hussars

More like fortify our town. Unless Vlad family does not have land and mother merchant business and father's statecraft and church construction projects are the only source of income. (Also slightly late to say, Vlad could've grown into the most spoiled noble brat but terrors from the Noosphere seems to have somehow set him on a straight path. Usually kids like him would hurt prostitutes.)
And since we are leaving for our "holy grail" search. Our dad has no feet and weaken, our house guards have gotten fat with peace.
We really should consider buying or commisioning guns for our household. Vlad's dad can't swing weapons like he used to and the servants hasn't learn how to draw a bow.
So guns that can use anything you can fit in as ammo is prudent.
>>
>>5132496
Contact Local Mercenaries with a good service record, give them an x years of service in the name of your house and they retire with a plot of land? Seem the most straight forward answer also attract knight into drilling our levies to be more professional
>>
>>5132444
Oh yeah definetly they will come for us, so home isn't safe anymore. They know where we live.

>>5132467
I was thinking the same, an elite group is the best for us. A small group of knights. But finding anyone to join us, might be hard.

>>5132496
They do have land, but is more like an estate and i believe some villages and farms. The qm never quite confirmed. The best protection is probably to get them away, at least for our parents (future especially). They need to live in a place, more easy to defend and with better guards at least. I can agree with preparing the settlements yeah.
>>
>>5132496
Crossbows are actually pretty quick and easy to train people how to use. But a professional bowman is a better unit overall. Barring the use of guns it would probably be best to go full on pavise crossbowmen. Unless you have a few years to train a proper bowman. Bonus points for bowmen is that they can be cross trained to be horse archers as well. And they generally tend to be physically large and powerful men as well. A bit of fap arm syndrome but very robust upper body strength.

But if you want it quick and dirty, crossbows are the way to go.

Does any other anon think we should admit to using magic?
>>
>>5132572
Admitting to using magic while the world isn't going full hellscape would likely end poorly for us.
>>
>>5132576
Yes, But he has us by the balls. We DO use magic. We DO suffer from churches.
>>
>>5132576
he expects us to refuse those claims, and when we do, we will be fucked.
>>
>>5132579
>>5132583
Admitting to using magic would have the same effect as him proving we can use magic. We won't get brownie points for being honest. The Holy See would have our ass either way. It doesn't matter if we're up front about it or not, a sorcerer is a sorcerer.

Don't just roll over and let Griffith ream our ass.
>>
>Anons thinking that fortifying is going to shit all IF the Holy See or Midland decide to come down on Vlad and his family
Fucking amusing, really. A few village's worth of peasant militia isn't going to amount to anything when we're talking about actual armies as the opposing faction.
Besides, just up and vanishing with Vlad's parents in tow is going to look EXTREMELY suspect. Even if we do manage to deflect suspicion of heresy/witchcraft away from us the Holy See WILL be keeping a tight eye on us once they hear about this debacle(because they will, let's face it.)

Now having said that, I haven't a clue how to get out of this smoothly.
Best I can think of is insisting Vlad's parents take an extended vacation in a different kingdom if at all possible. That way they're out of the Midland King's reach at the very least.

Goddammit, Griffith. It didn't have to be this way!
>>
>>5132572
>>5132579
>>5132583
Thanks for the support, but it's a terrible idea to reveal our magic.

Also, us suffering from churches is old intel, that clearly doesn't happen any more.
>>
>>5132572
Definitely not. DENY
>>
>>5132592
That's why I said for them to actually go far away from midland instead of hiding on our estate.
Are there any friendly kingdoms near Midlands they could stay for a awhile?
>>
>>5132572
Do you think that admitting to witchcraft is somehow going to stop them from burning us alive?
>>
>>5132592
I think the best strategy would be proving we aren't an occultist/demon/homunculus rather than trying to fight the world.
>>
>>5132579
Also what makes you think he has us by the balls? All he has is personal testimony so far. If he doesn't have any concrete evidence it's a matter of he said/she said. And currently we have Gallahad saying Griffith is a regicidal maniac and then suddenly Griffith turns and says "You've got a wizard amongst you".

The only thing floating him is his great charisma. Anyone else would have already been in irons. So right now Vlad is in a bad position that would put him under further scrutiny but he's not in such a bad position as to need to go full blown panic begging for forgiveness mode.

Staying calm and simply alluding to childhood illness and good luck from the blessings of god would make for a way better defense than hoping for leniency.

Best we can hope is that Michelle or Jacopo have a trusted connection to turn to outside of Midland.

Vlad's screwed either way, best we can do here is mitigate the amount of fallout coming his way.

>>5132609
Oh absolutely, you're right there. Which is why I'm shitting on the idea of trying to fortify our lands.
But the sad fact is that even if we DO manage to turn this situation around Vlad is going to be under tight scrutiny from the Holy See - and given how fanatical some of it's elements can be all those elements need is a small shred of an excuse to come running with torches in hand.

A quick death if we are lucky and aren't tortured for a year in the dungeon with Griffith and our parents.

>>
>>5132652
He is acusing us of being a wizard, a monster, of orchestrating the murder of the queen, of planning the death of the king, of impersonating the royal heir and mind controling a noble family and one of the royal knights.
That's multiple counts of both high treason, heresy, witchcraft and us straight up being a monster, he can't back down from executing us.
>>
>>5132658
Thing is, he said that we are a shapeshifter that took his form, if people believe that, they would believe we also planted the poison.

>>5132639
Griffith is accusing us of being a skinwalker.
We're losing more than our titles if he wins.
>>5132632

He's a mad beast and craven poisoner.

Something else to consider is missions we can do to prove our purity.

>>
>>5132665
We were both present at the Party at the same time, though. And not a single person mistook us for the other. You'd think if you were someone and a person referred to you as the person across the room you would have corrected them. And with the nurses being present the entire time in the infirmary his claim of us being him as we walked out whilst still being tended to simply doesn't work.

It comes off as a raving mad attempt at deflection than a well reasoned accusation.
>>
>Anons say fortifying is pointless
If we do get out of this mess relatively unharmed.
We still need to find ways to protect our peasants and stuff, and there is only so much we can do.
Vlad was basically handed land and people to manage and we are wasting the given oppurtunity to lessen the blow of the oncoming nightmare.
>>
>>5132632
I'm +1ing a duel with Griffith if that's possible.

>>5132676
Best hope the last witch is a hag and not some qt in a big hat or anons may throw her into the waifu bowl instead of the pile of burning timber.

But That sounds like a good idea.
>>
>>5132676
And it was something we already wanted to do.

Also Griffith is saying that us going from a dude loafing about to a war hero would be impossible, bit so would be a man killing 100 others, or taking a castle while being outnumbered 1 to 10. So either extreme competency is impossible and he faked his own victory, or they are possible and we did no such grand thing.
>>5132679
Nice, I vote to present this evidence as well.
>>
>>5132676

>>
>>5132724

>>
>>5132729
>>5132736
Basically, my thinking is that a grand and patriotic speech will do well for a noble wedding party, and the cross examination will do well for when church investigators show up.
>>
>>5132724
We can DESTROY Griffith argument after the emotional speech, it's not like they are mutually exclusive.
>>
>>5132662
Yep this.
Goddamn that is a ton of accusations this worm is trying to throw us. Is he kind of insane for attempt, he must be actually going for everything he can. What a
pain.
Also I think he genuily believes we betrayed him, even if Vlad didn t say a word with anyone about anything. But Griffith takes it personal and needed to quickly associate someone to blame. Also Vlad was just under Gallahad wing, after a few days after the feast. Meaning is impossible for Vlad to even work on the death of the queen.
>>
>>5132703
This gives me an idea. Why not ask everybody present what is the most insane thing they had done.
"Sir Gallahad was just a lumberjack who tripped and fell into Holy See army and is the first witness to the weird eyed swamp fuckers turning it into putrid meat and then caught a cannonball with his hands midflight and shattered every bone in his body and still took the fight to pirates and manned a cannon with blades stuck in his flesh. By normal accounts,he should be dead. But nope, just last month he punched a tree down while teaching me how to be a lumberjack."
"And I may seem abnormal but I got past that when I drank cellars dry! Who isn't to say I can't get into the good fight? Also I say it is divine providence that I did went and fought with the Band of Hawks. I found my parents still alive in the damn Tudor dungeons! My mom told me she prayed since the day she and dad was captured and tortured. If my success isn't a holy sign, then what is?"
>>
>>5132724
Facts and logic should wait. We do the calm reply (I think I voted for yours) and then answer the insult with a duel. There's probably a thing where the victor will be the one who is in the right.
>>
>>5132751
Based speech, I will support it.
>>
>>5132754
>the victor will be the one who is in the right.
No way. If we're dueling him we're doing it to restore our honor, not a trial by combat. Cause if he did win then all the effort we put in would have been wasted. Don't take unnecessary risks.
>>
>>5132759
Yeah this, the duel is for him insulting the name of the Santanas, his high treason and accusation is something different.
>>
>>5132763
>>5132759
I was referring to his weird accusations about us being a wizard in addition to the insult. The treason thing is clearly a separate issue we have no standing to duel over. It's also less about what we invoke and what the crowd and nobles think.
>>
>>5132751
Translated into noblespeak:
"Sir Gallahad was a mere axeman who found himself among the Holy See's noble army and was first to witness the unholy occultists pitifully trying to hide from god's judgement in the swamps. Not long after, in a separate incident, he managed to resist a cannonball shot at our beloved royals with his naught but his hands and shattered every bone in his body, yet still had the strength of will to take the fight to pirates and man a cannon with blades stuck in his flesh. By normal accounts, he should be dead. But nay, just last month he felled a tree with those same fists that stopped that cannonball, while teaching me his ways. God inspires us to greatness in times of need, does he not?"
"And I may seem abnormal, but I have changed greatly after my isolation - I saw the error of my past ways, and did my very best to change it. I honed my body, and my mind, and my very willpower! Who's to say I can't get into the good fight for king and country? Also I say it is divine providence that I was sought by and fought with the Band of Hawks. I found my parents still alive in Tudor's foul dungeons! My mother told me she prayed since the day she and dad was captured and tortured. If my success isn't a holy sign, then what is?"
>>
>>5132763
He's done more than insult them, he's accused them of harboring a demon, which I think is a little beyond the scope of an honor duel.
This is less about who's honor is impugned, and more about who gets tortured to death by the state.
>>
>>5132712
Still here. Just had to take care of a few things at home first. Should have given a warning first, soz.
>>5132238
>>5132267
>>5132250
Going with these, writing soon.
>>
>>5132769
I meant the duel is neither a trial by combat for the treason OR the accusation.
It's a honour duel because he insulted the honour of Vlad, of house Santana and of our mentor, by claiming their minds were corrupted.
>>
>>5132769
If we hinge our guilt or innocence of anything on a duel we raise his chances of shifting blame significantly. He's on the back foot right now. He wouldn't be in a fight.
>>
>>5132774
So no FACTS and LOGICS, or will we be able to use them afterwards?

"Your claims are nothing but an attempt to distract from your crimes of treason!" You speak back to Griffith, trying to defend your honor with all the power your words can achieve. "You are the one who killed the Queen, you are the one that threatens the king, and it is your ambition that seeks to throw the land into chaos!
"I used to think you were noble, but today you've revealed yourself not only to be a traitor to Midland, but a traitor to your comrade-in-arms. Look at you, trying to deflect all of your accusasions back to me like a cornered dog!"
You accuse me of being a wizard, when here I stand in the Kings own church. Is this place not sacred enough for the daughter of our holy lord?"
You claim to be an innocent man, but you have revealed yourself to be a treacherous beast!"

"That is where you appear to be wrong, Dear Vlad. It was not your majesty who chose this settlement, but me." Griffith smirks, still feeling the support of the crowd in his favor. "You parents warned me personally about your past problems with religious fetishes in your house. So I had to compromise and make do with a large guesthouse with some last minute decorations, the only holy thing about this place is the priest hired for this ceremony."

"This changes nothing! I could throw the same argument back at you and say that you did it to save your own demonic skin! Nothing that you say will hold any value without evidence here! I may have been a drunkard and a whoremonger, but I was never a traitor! Do you really have the audacity to accuse me of cheating through victories when you, of all people, overcame the tides of fate by going from a mercenary to the heir of a kingdom? This is madness! Is no one in this land allowed to earn their victories no more? I thought everyone was a fan of underdogs. Look at how Gallahad saved the princess and became a royal knight. Should we suspect him of being a demon as well? Afterall, there is 0 possibility of a human ever stopping a cannon ball! Right!? You should have taken a good look at my eyes before accusing me of being of the silver eyed clan, because your pupils look a lot more closer to gray than mine, the one who almost lost his family to those damn occultists!"

Your voice echoes through the floor as the people inside go into silence, you are sweating bullets under your suit, no doubt in contained fear of going to prison for a crime you did not commit, but with Griffith's lack of response and the guards quickly approaching, you only need a few more blows to prove your innoncence.

"If you're looking for a cursed artifact to dispose of so quickly, why don't you consider throwing away that--"

But his argument is that we are a shapeshifter wizard that killed the queen and was planning to kill the king.
We are being accused of witchcraft, together with treason.
>>
>>5132846
...Necklace.
You can't mention the egg of the king here. How else would you know about what that amulet can do unless you used magic to perceive it? Surely that would only make you more suspicious of witchcraft by pointing that out, but the heat of the moment forced you into a mistake, it was too far late to take back your words as Griffith took advantage of the opportunity just as opinions were starting to split.

"What was that, I hear? Are you referring to this object I have around my neck at all times?" Griffith takes out his red amulet. removing it off his torso and chucking it to the floor with enough force to shatter it to pieces.
"I had bought it from a shop owner in my hometown many years ago. It's an old, worn down container made out of clay! It is not a magic stone! Here is my evidence to prove it!"
You can't believe it... You even try going against all your instincts and sense the Od of the Egg right in front of Griffith, nothing happens, not a shroud of white or red seems to emanate from that item.

He had to make a fake one for this occasion! The real egg must be hiding somewhere! Your Od Sensing has never once lied to you!
"Now tell me, people of the church. Who appears to be framing who, when a mere fashion item from my childhood is treated as a demonic item--"

"CEASE YOUR BICKERING!" Two soldiers approach you and Griffith with a poke of their swords, knocking you both to the floor as your wounds prove too great to continue your arguments.

"This is a waste of everyone's time! Stop the wedding and imprison the two of them! Gallahad! Tell me all you know about the case immediately!"
You try to stand up, but it only takes a few steps for you to start coughing blood. You imagine that it has something to do with the Egg actually being nearby, but after more intense coughing and no additional symptoms, it appears that the strike from the royal soldier has punctured your lung.

"Damn, I didn't mean to hit him that deep! Is he going to make it?" A soldier tries to offer his shoulder, but you find trouble to even lift your head to him as your bleeding gets worse.

"This is how he heals himself..." Griffith slowly stands up, following the guards with arms behind his back. "He needs to take the energy of someone he trusts. Unless he plans to die here, he's going to try and fix his organs with his palms.

There is a distinct possibility that you could get infected or lose a vital organ by ignoring that wound, but healing it would only give ammo for Griffith's accusations.

>>
>>5132987
"Allow me to be the one to heal him, then." Gallahad makes wave from the crowd and applies pressure to your wound. "I don't trust any one of you idiots to take care of this boy."

Before all hope seemed lost, Gallahad, in true white knight fashion, came to your aid as he proclaimed his undying loyalty not only to the Santana family, but to you in particular.

"Vlad might have been a loser for most of his life. But none of you can take away all he did in his training! I watched him personally day and night, and made sure he never gave up on his goals! Were he actually made of magic, he would simply choose to disappear, or kill you all without a trace without a second thought, but he endured all the insults! Why? Because he loves this land, and he loves his parents! All the blasphemy! All the misery, living by himself! he can't be a homunculus, nor a shapeshifter! Never once did he even grow violent to the fine ladies that rejected him! Even if all of you would be against him in court, I know I would have put my Knightly title aside just to defend this boy! And I will do everything in my power to prove that Griffith is the one who killed Queen Beatrix!"

The guards, the royal family, even Griffith appears to be moved by Gallahad's loyalty, voicing his protests while none of the Falcons even bothered to do so. But this boastful vote by the most important Knight in Midland came with a caviat.

"Vlad... Please don't die here... I beg of you... If you really do have magic powers, use this old body of mine to heal your wounds. You have so much to live for... I promise I will do all I can to prove your innocence of the other accusations... Hell, I can even help you make a run for it as well as warn your parents, but please... Don't give up on your dreams..." Gallahad whispers as he waits for you to miraculously recover your energies.

I vow to impale so many times that bastard of griffith that he isn t going to even know what pains is anymore. What the hell we even do, fuck. I want to be able to fight goddamn with the perforated organs we are going to be weaker. A man can t fight well with that. Patience a hand, a leg, eye or an ear. But inside hell no. I don t even know if this is enough for stop Griffith, it probably isn t.
We can t no. A vow vengeance is nothing if we can t even fight anymore.
Either we take the shame forever and fight or we die without the shame in death, but who knows in life.
I am correct Becchi ?

>>
>>5133069
dont worry anon, we have elf blood in us, we should have superhuman endurance, and magic can cure a perforated lung easily. Though it will take time, it might give us the entry we need to search for magic in this world, not the demonic kind but the elemental and so the wizards and benevolent beings use
>>
>>5133071
If Vlad dies we could always go the Sworn to Valour route and switch protags.
>>
>>5133069
Guts replaced his entire arm, we will find a way to fix our internal organs. Maybe mama Sivir will help int he future.
Unless we die, but than we already won, since we derailed our own causality.

>>5133070
>>5133071
>>5133075
Having a cripple lung might suck, but I doubt it'll be like that for long. We just need to get away from everyone here, and slowly heal the wound over time. We could just say we got lucky our lung didn't get infected, but to minimize suspicion we'll need to be "bedridden" for a few weeks minimum.

Depends, I don't think we've ever been shown if Magic can outright regenerate body parts. Guts for example never had his arm grown back, though that was obviously because it wasn't on his list of priorities
