Life's been hard ever since the Tau took over.
Learning their foul xenos language and working their factories has been demeaning.
But after catching wind of heresy on the rise in the Tau city you find yourself uneasily striking a balance between cooperating with the alien filth and taking great risks to operate outside their laws.
Now with a wire under your shirt you find yourself pretending to join a chaos cult.

You look down at the violet fizzling liquid. Yeah... there's no way in hell you're drinking this.
What's taking those idiot Fire Warriors so long? With no way out all you can do is stall for time.
"What's in this drink?" You ask.
Maiya pipes up "A blend of hallucinogens and stimulants-"
The psyker interrupts "and a touch. Of the Warp! To enhance the ė̸͈̠͈̀̇́̿x̷̡͓̾̚p̷̜̤̙̖̯̓ȇ̵͖̳̪̦͌̀̊͘r̵̭͚͔̔̓̌ͅͅì̶͖͖̰̰ę̶͈͚̯͋̈́n̶̪͙͙̩̋c̷͎̗͊̈́̈́̌ȇ̵̩̂͒͘
"Don't worry Cas, you won't overdose." Maiya reassures you.
You continue your questions "Are you certain we can free this world from xenos?"
The Chaos witch glares at you: "You are STALLING. You want a purpose. I give you a purpose: To serve the dark god Slaanesh! He asks only two things! killing his enemies and indulging yourself in pleasure without restraint."
"Very well, but there are some things I need to know before I commit my life to this purpose." you lie.
"Two more questions." she snaps, "then you will drink, or you will leave and never return."

We should suggest to do that, but we need to ask the questions.
>>
Okay, we need to think about what questions will A) make the Fire Warriors storm this place ASAP, and B) take the longest for these heretics to answer.
Logically, this means asking about things that pose an immediate danger. Weapons, slaves, sacrifices, spreading anti-Tau sentiments, that kind of thing.
I propose
>Do you even know how to use half of the weapons here? I know some people who used to be in the guard and aren’t too happy about the Tau occupation either. I’m sure they’d be happy to help out.
>Those people over there in chains. Tau supporters, I assume? Why haven’t we killed them yet? Assuming there are slaves visible, of course. There’s a cage in the background so there might be.
>>
>>5074753

>remember we have a tau speaker on us,if we say we know other anti-tau aligned people,we would indirectly be ratting them out
>>
>>5074756
I mean, we could be bullshitting for all the Tau know.

>"Two more questions."

"You are just asking me to trade one god that never helped (lie) me for another! What proof do you have that this one isn't as fake as the first one? I was hoping to be free of blind obedience to a inactive god..."

I sense this cultist, like many others, is always looking to "prove" that the emperor is a false god and that their gods are real. They always shit on the faithful that the emperor is a false god while their gods are active and grant boons etc.

If she starts showing off shit it will give the fire warriors incentive to act, I feel like they probably don't care about our life and are waiting to see what they can get. If she shows us guns/ psychic abilities / etc we can just keep saying 'the imperial guard had that too' until she shows us something really big.

The Psyker laughs "You doubt his power? Ha! Slaanesh rewards the faithful with supernatural boons. Most famously he grants preternatural senses and speed. Observe."
She calls over another cultist, he holds his fist to his chest in salute "Yes, mistress?"
"Close your eyes, marked one."
He does so.
A blade springs out from her bracer with a soft click, and without warning she throws it right at his throat.
In a blink he catches the flying blade. Then opens his eyes.
"Behold! Please the Dark god and receive his blessings. And that's only the beginning of his power!" The witch proclaims.
The cultist flips the blade and catches it by the handle. "Something is amiss... Who are you?"
He closes in on you, eagle eyes staring at your chest. He's on to you! Time to bail!

"A SPY!" he roars!
Your arm springs out to jab the cultist in the eyes but he blocks with the side of his hand. He slashes your belly with a shallow cut, the pain is sharp.
"Seize them!" The psyker screeches. Maiya stands paralysed with shock.
All the cultists in the room start running straight at you. You grab one of the nearby tables covered in chemicals and Chymistry glass and heave it over.
The glass noisly crashes onto the floor spilling every drug known to man into a single puddle. A vapour of hallucinogens, aphrodisiac and stimulants starts permeating the room.

Don’t the Inquisition have penitent witches? And I don’t just mean regular psykers who have been convinced of the Inquisition’s bullshit from day one, but actual former Chaos worshippers? You hold your breath fast and are unaffected by the gas spreading throughout the room.
The cultists without gas masks start thrashing like crazy, when suddenly the front door is shot down with a pulse blast.
Fire Warriors start streaming in, "FIRE CASTE! THROW DOWN YOUR WEAPONS."
The crazed cultists in their drugged up haze screech and attack immediately, lasbeams and blades flying wildly. The shas return fire, and you narrowly escape the firing line.
More cultists are rushing out from deeper in the base to defend. Maiya, avoiding the gas opens up a secret hatch and crawls through.

Full agreement with >>5079234 . If we're able to quickly snatch up a weapon while chasing her, go for it, but focus on not letting her get away. Knowing them, the fishmen probably won't respect the time-honored traditions of battlefield salvage and demand we surrender whatever we loot into evidence or something. Though that might be for the best though given that this is a chaos facility, touching anything here is the equivalent of playing russian roulette with a pistol that shoots STDs (Spiritually Transmitted Diseases).
Attacking a psyker is straight up just a terrible idea and is only really viable if you happen to have an untouchable strapped to you, which we presently do not.
So by process of elimination, cutting off the recruiter's escape is our only real option out of the selection provided.

We did what we had to do to protect all those innocent humans from being dragged into hell by the things she worships. We didn't want to work with the Fire Caste, we didn't want to lie to her, we had to because she CHOSE to follow the chaos gods.

>Turn of wire
>Disarm her
First chaos's biggest threat is knowlegde itself. Just by knowing about it the dark gods can whisper to you (dreams, etc), And slowly deform your perspective of things.
A low level cultist is no more than a simple citizen of the empire a simple ... Pawn. If you look at it this way:
Aliens invaded our planet, our god Emperor could'nt protect us, and somebody forming undergound resistance and they say if you pray to them instead you will have the power to repell the enemy (and they can literary show their unnatural abilities).

I say turn of wire, disarm her and... Well just talk to her. Maybe she has usefull info. First we need info to their other bases. Second we can turn her in, let the fire caste deal with her (might get some merits).
If she resist we can still kill her.
>>
>>5081008
>turning her over to the fire caste
Not a good idea, i feel. She still has knowledge of the chaos gods, she literally filled herself with chaos tattoos. She's a cultist.

That means sadly, we gotta put her down. She cannot be allowed to share her dark knowledge.
>>
>>5080518
>Chaos is called the ARCHenemy for a reason, Maiya. All the demons' gifts are poisoned; to turn to them is the the greatest error one can make, no matter the circumstances. The cult does not serve mankind, and this small glimpse already showed me far worse than anything the Tau could come up with. Do not barter your soul to false saviours, for salvation can only come through the Emperor.
That should get through to her and reveal whether there is anything left to save. It should be fine with the Tau due to their views on religious freedom, so there's no reason to turn the wire off.

Remember that the local head of the Administratum is involved in the chaos worship, and there's almost certainly a whole bunch of cults and cells. She probably knows much more about them, and her support would be invaluable in rooting them out. We'd obviously have to keep her on a short leash anyway, but since the Tau themselves have told us that the serious chaos worshippers cannot be redeemed to the greater good, I don't worry much about them allowing her to get away or do chaos things.
I do not expect a miracle, but since we've got our bases covered, we can try anyway. Maybe we can turn her around, maybe we'll have to put her down.
>>
>>5081088
That's the problem though, even if she felt sorry, the chaos gods would still find a way to fuck us all over. Even if she was redeemed, they'd do something solely to keep her from getting away.

I don't think there's anything that can save her, even if she gives up on chaos.
>>
>>5081091
Only the Emperor can save her, that much is true. But even if her soul isn't saved, she can still be useful. A list of other cults would be invaluable. Like I said, we can still put her down, and the Tau will certainly keep her on a very short leash, so there's little risk.
Turning her into our waifu would obviously be an incredibly stupid idea. Anyone who wants that should fap before posting.

You slowly advance towards her, as she retreats step by step into the darkness.
"You have no right to call me a traitor. Of all mankind's enemies, heretics are the worst of all. You are the traitor."
"Traitor to whom? He has given us NOTHING Vaede, can you not see it?"
"He has given us a place at his side in the next life. Your cult threatened that covenant for everyone! I had no choice but to side with them."
"Slaanesh offers an afterlife as well." she stammers.
"All lies, you know this Maiya. You have damned yourself. Let me give you the Emperor's peace and save your immortal soul."
"You're going to kill me?!" She steps back, bumping into a deadend behind her.
"It's the only way."
"N-NO! All I ever wanted was a life. Do you have any idea what it's like being an Imperial Clerk? Nothing but an endless mind numbing flood of papers and forms day after day. Nothing but tasteless Basedlens rations and water. The only stimulation was the drugged up recaf they fed me. My fondest memory was getting my first paper cut. I want to live Cas. To feel excitement, comradery, fear, hate and suffering. Like you."
"The Emperor grants life eternal. It's not too late. Return to him."
The traitor falls to her knees and drops her knife. "If I'm going to die here... I want to return to the Emperors side."

I see no reason to spare her. We have plenty of other associates, and they are neither Slaaneshi cultists, nor on the Tau's shitlist.
Speaking of the Tau, I see no mention of us turning the wire off, so they are gonna ask after her if we whisk her away. It's really not worth going through all the trouble for a fucking Chaos cultist of all things.
Giving her a quick death and sending her to the emperor is mercy enough.

If things actually worked that way you wouldn't need commisars or a chain of command. The imperial guard are just normal people from all sorts of backgrounds and worlds.

I would understand if the vote was to turn her over to the tau. But to kill this hapless woman in a dark corner is murder. If the mc is capable of beating her to death with a pipe then I'm out lol.

Let's not forget that she probably knows a lot about the cults that almost certainly exist throughout the former Administratum. Even if we kill her, we should at least get that intel first.

I'm gonna urge the lot of us here to think carefully and avoid shitflinging. Let's weigh the options and consider.

If we decide to offer her redemption, it ain't gonna be all hugs and forgiveness. The only way it would be tolerable is for her to remove those markings: A process which will be incredibly painful because the Tau won't do it, and it will leave her horribly scarred. Additionally, I don't think it's even remotely within our ability to ensure she is free from corruption. I'm not sure how possible that is even with the best equipment and knowledge available. We might be able to give her a more noble chance at redemption than merely Big E's mercy, but chaos might always have a hold on her. Additionally, if the other ex-guardsmen or those still loyal to the Emperor find out we spared a heretic, things are gonna be really bad for us. We might not be able to get any support from anyone else anymore, if they don't outright accuse us of heresy ourselves. The same goes for the Tau if they learn we spared one of the cultists. We run a big risk letting her live, as much as my morality leans me to that.

On the other hand, putting her down guarantees she cannot be fully consumed by chaos further down the line, thereby saving her soul from complete damnation. It means there is no possible vessel left for something from the warp to take advantage of—and if some kind of daemon can it will. It's a sure means of saving her from corruption, but the cost of it is obvious. We also have to consider that it might fuck Cas up a bit to do so. I don't know if it's ever been stated how much combat experience he has, but killing an unarmed young woman, even if it's still a mercy, is gonna weigh on him. I don't know what else there is to factor in, but I'd like to see what other anons have to say to this.
>>
>>5083104
>We also have to consider that it might fuck Cas up a bit to do so
He's a guardsman. He knows about chaos, too. Way i see it, in this GREEMDARK universe, giving her the Emperor's Peace is the best mercy.

Again, i have to repeat it, if we let her go the Tau will most surely send her to brainwash camp.

"Emperor, forgive me."
You pick up the knife gripping it tightly.
"The Emperor protects the faithful."
You cut her throat. The end was swift.
You climb up the ladder nearby into the light...

"Have you finished writing your report, Gue'la?"
Shas'la Tash leans over the desk expectantly.
"Yes alien, I take these matters seriously. Now, are we finished here?"
The fire warrior gets out his holochron.
"It is my duty to inform you" he says reading off his device, "Feliciations Gue'Cas, your demerits have been removed and your social debt to Tau has been paid. 10 merits have been deposited in your account."
"Ten? Are you serious?"
"Do not interrupt! - Thank you for your service, loyal citizen. Stand tall and take pride in the your humble role in todays victory."
"Wait, what happened. Did you finish them all off? Did you find any leads on their co-conspirators?"
(The place Maiya took you wasn't even the main base the ratlings told you about. And their leader Gallius is probably still alive. Who knows how many more cultists are lurking under the city, and in plain sight.)
"That is the concern of the Fire Caste, human. You may now return to your habitation unit."

Okay regarding the controversy and samefagging accusations. I believe:
Multiple devices on the same network share the same public IP address and thus share the same 4chan ID.
You can change your Public IP and get a new 4chan ID but you can't change it back (Your ISP assigns you your public IP address)
So I could just rule that only votes from IDs that existed before the vote opened will be counted. (I can check this easily by highlighting a vote's ID and ctrl+f to see if it's the first match.)

Pros:
-Samefags are limited to 2 IDs per vote, 1 from their Router and 1 from their phone's Mobile Network (unless they own multiple routers or mobile data plans)
-players don't have to put in any effort
-very easy for OP to implement

Cons:
-The first vote in a new thread is still fully vulnerable to samefagging
-Newcomers to the thread don't get to vote until after they've posted ITT
-Samefags get to vote twice with impunity

Am I wrong in my thinking somewhere? Anyway that^ is what I'm planning on for now.
I will apply this to the Maiya vote, and will consider a retcon if the recruit vote wins.

Aside from that I think I'm going to take a break from updating the quest for the rest of the work week. (ie: I'll update again after 3 days)
>>
>>5084894
You do you OP.
>>5083745
This is why I'm namefagging.
>>
>>5084894
Seems ok, we'll see. We don't need to redo anything since you already drew and wrote the outcome, just worried about future actions since samefags sucks out the fun out of the quest.
>>
>>5084894
Could ask us to adopt names and establish ourselves, plus at the start of a thread, we can just shoot the shit and talk about stuff to get the Post ID numbers up.
>>
>>5084894
This is about as optimal as it gets. 2 votes isn't enough to swing a vote, often, and the very nature of samefags (especially the guy losing his shit and samefag flooding the thread to try and kill the game and the QMs desire to run it) means that they can't stand losing votes so eventually they just leave.

It's like an antibiotic, it runs the course over a period of time, it's not an instant cure.

Look at how well it worked for StV and BCQ: Space Boogaloo
>>
>>5084917
> respond to samefagging with namefagging

Why would you do this. Please no, that never turns out well.
>>
>>5084894
Bruh I am actually very happy with the way you wrote the outcome.

I am just worried that since everyone got all worked up about the cultist, people forgot to vote to turn off the damn wire.

Even then I'm actually pretty okay with it because if anything the Tau will know we have a bottom line in common, and that we're willing to work with them to achieve limited goals. Way less difficult than trying to be all about the Tau suddenly, instead they have a starting point to approach us in order to turn us.
>>
>>5084894
I have 5 phones and 3 computers. If I was retarded enough to samefag, I'd still have 16 votes.
>>
>>5084917
This is easily the best option. You can separate real players and samefags if everyone uses a trip.
>>
I already mentioned it but what about only the first 5 replies or even 3 decides the action since samefagging occurs after a while to swing the vote. Could even combine the trip idea into it or paragraph/opinion with the action idea
>>
>>5084945
>>5084932

Oh yeah I didn't even think of VPN. Yes Free VPNs are banned on 4chan but paid VPN accounts aren't.
Normally you'd get one ID per network but with a VPN you could have 1 persistent ID for each server on the VPN, basically unlimited
I guess my method won't work well then, since a samefag can just use a paid VPN account to maintain multiple IDs.

>>
>>5084945
>>5084989
Tripfagging is no better. Nor is namefagging, since Anon still just has ro use the IP and make up a trip/name.

Just require anchor votes or a persistent ID. Not like that's hard to get, even with a phone, so long as you go outside once in a while.

Samefags usually do it because samefagging is so low effort and easy.

Also 4cha blocks a lot of paid as well as free VPNs.

To sum up, don't worry too much about it. Taufag is probably one missed neetbucks payment away from necking themselves, and when they do I only hope they stream it for our entertainment.
>>

Namefags and tripfags are widely despised across every board for good reason.
While this may be one of the few fringe circumstances where the use names and trips are justified, that doesn't change the fact the name/tripfags are attention-starved homosexuals deserving of nothing but eternal scorn.
>>
>>5086223
I mean, the problem is that it doesn't do anything to prevent samefagging that an anchor post wouldn't do.

The only thing you can do is make samefagging more difficult, not impossible.

You lie awake on your bed in the middle of the night when suddenly you hear the sound of Imperial ordnance. The rythmic zapping of lasfire, the shock of krak missiles, the hiss of plasma. Peering out the window you see human warriors rampaging through the streets. Cultists. Suddenly banging on your bedroom door, Wisby's voice comes from the other side "We're dead meat Chief! The Chaos cult is going all in!" A noisy announcement starts playing on your Holochron, you recognize the face of Ethereal Aun'vre Kass speak "People of Tau'va. The city is under attack by armed and dangerous Gue fanatics! Remain in your homes. Engage all security protocols. Do not open your doors for any human. Do not attempt to communicate with any human. This attack seems too big to be a final act of desparation, so they're probably trying to seize power. I definitely don't want to live in a demon world. Let's operate together with Wisby and attempt to target the heretic leadership and infrastructure - he probably has a better idea where their hideouts and ammo caches might be than the Tau.

Cooperation with the Tau seems to be right out. The Ethereal has ordered a lockdown and to not communicate with any humans. I'm pretty sure that any human ignoring this curfew will be treated harshly or shot on sight. Definitely if they're armed or resist in any way.
It's time to build our own budget inquisitorial strike team and target the linchpin of this assault.
>>
>>5088780

>>
>>5088789
We know the former Administratum is the hodbed of heresy. Wisby collected this intel for us, and in doing so probably found out some more relevant things he didn't tell us right away. He also has connections to various of Imperial remnants and resistance groups, and with the new information, should be able to decide which ones are probably heretics and which are loyal and willing to lend a hand. Linking up with the latter should be our first concern. I'm pretty certain most cults have painted themselves as resistance groups fighting for mankind after the occupation, so the actual Imperial resistance probably knows them quite well. They almost certainly didn't know that they are heretics, but in light of the new info, it might click that "That group that always seemed a bit off" is a cult.

>>
>>5089597
Humans gotta look out for each other. We should make sure though, to emphasize that we're just getting non-combatants out of the way and frame it as more of a "citizens rescue" operation than an incipient militia.

I bet it'll work better on the Tau with their caste roles than with other humans suspicious about any large gathering of people even tangentially related to combat.

Because, hey, we're just laying the ground for community. A community that looks out for each other, protects each other, and worships the God Emperor together awaiting the day when they can return this world to his light. Totes innocent stuff.

"Settle down Wisby. We are the Imperial Guard. We've got to stand and fight this heresy."
"I don't know about that Chief, we got no formation, no armour, no numbers, no nothin."
"We don't need all that. We just need to defend this Hab block and its human inhabitants from the cultists."
"Well, if the good Emperor wills it. I'll go down to the Rat's nest and get our weapons."
"Good. Meet me in the mess."
After Wisby is out of an earshot, you get your holochron out of your pocket and dial T'olku. To your surprise she quickly picks up the call. "Cas Vaede! Oh goodness. Are you hurt? Ooooh I should not have answered. The noble Ethereal said we are not to communicate with humans."
"I'm alright T'olku", you reply, "What about you, are you safe?"
"We Tau are safe; the Shas are withdrawing to protect the middle city area. But I fear they are leaving the humans in the outer city to fend for themselves. Cas, you need to get out of there!"
"Don't worry about me Por'la T'olku. The Emperor protects." You hang up the phone and dash to the cafeteria. Some of the braver occupants are already here with whatever arms they could gather. Wisby should be here with your Lasgun any second now. You need a plan to protect the civilians.

Hm, that entrance with the corridor would make a good choke point for those two guys manning the emplacement gun. We should stack some tables in front of it and create a funnel. We’d have to watch for grenades from the windows, though. Can we destroy a table or two and use the fragments to board up the ground-level windows?
That door on the other side of the room should be barricaded as sturdily as possible. We should restrict their entry points as much as possible to concentrate what little firepower we have.
We should also think about melee weapons that can poke through barricades, preferably resembling spears. We’re going to run out of gun food eventually.
We also need to be aware of the tunnel entrance. It may be a potential escape route, but the heretics know about it too and could use it as a flank path. I say we assign someone to guard it and, should we ever need to, retreat up the stairs rather than down them. At least we know there are no cultists in the building, and the goal isn’t to win or escape so much as hold out until the Shas get their asses in gear and save us.
Sleep well, QM.

I count 2 shovels, 2 sticks, 2 crowbars, 2 laspistols, 3 lasrifles, 1 drone and I think an autocannon?
Anyways, this anon >>5092491 has some good ideas. We should board up the windows with the tables and barricade the back door. I propose dragging that yellow cooler in front of it and having a few melee guys stand guard.
We also need to scout out the lower floor, preferably with the drone. It's either our escape route or the main entrance for cultist insurgents. The drone looks like it's got weapons, so it should be able to hold its own against a cultist or two and not raise suspicions from any Tau recon parties down there.

We should get the ratlings upstairs as snipers upstairs. Better field of vision and when the structure is breached the stairs bypass the main floor so they can provide covering fire while we retreat to the tunnels.

Also we should pile up a bunch of burnable shit by the stairwell to torch the structure behind us in the case of a retreat

Shit missed one CRUCIAL stick boy

Okay, I'm going to assume we have no time to barricade the windows and doors so I'm employing my flash game last stand tactics. With the tables we create a line barrier, the back will consist of the MG, the slugger rattling on a box or something, Us and the other guardsmen providing further support. The front line will be made up of the brave block inhabitants, they will provide melee support so that the backline is safe. The northern(?) door will be protected by the Drone and the 2 autogun rattlings since it's just a close quarter gun battle, there's more dudes at the north to support the drone and rattlings in case it gets too hot and if shit hits the fan we'll make an organized retreat underground(we might have to ditch the MG tho)
>>
>>5092972
yeah, but the rats got laspistols not autoguns
also you have 2 stick (very important)
>>
>>5092996
Can we send the Tau drone underground to scout out the best escape route?

>>5093000

>>5093008
Depends if the attack isn't too bad, if it's safe enough to spare the drone then sure. Id rather send one of the rattlings though since I'm a bit iffy on the drones allegiance

>>
>>5093008
the drone seems smart enough to distinguish cultists from "gue'vesa" (or possibly it just distinguishes intruders from residents via their holochron) but you can't control it. The drone seeing you possess illegal weapons is a concern, but fighting chaos is more important right now.
>>
>>5093014
I'm not going to lie, sometimes there will be sacrifices, (I assume the melee dudes will be ducking down and will only attack if the cultist get too close)
>>
>>5093014
I mean, would you rather have them shooting in the guardsmen in melee?
>>
>>5092996
Why wouldn't we have time to barricade? We aren't a high profile target.

We can barricade the windows and set up a killzone at the door with the melee dudes flanking in case anyone gets through the door/windows.
>>
>>5093156
Dismantling furniture for wood and finding materials will take a considerable amount of time, the OP hasn't written the scenario yet so I'm assuming they could just be right around the corner and it would spell bad news if we were caught off guard while setting up barricades. I just propose the quickest defensive measure that involves just moving some turned over tables, I don't even know if the drone even moves under our commands so I took that to account too.
>>
> Suddenly the /qst/ metamorphized into a psudo-skirmish.

Can we please improve sticks by tying half-brick in socks on the top? Making them flail could greatly improve damage output and thus survivability of our stickmen.
If we lack half-bricks, we can maybe put some full cans or whatever
>>
>>5093325
Why do you want hobo flails so badly? Flails are hard to use and people without training are just as likely to brain themselves or a buddy as they are the person they’re trying to hit. Better to give them pointy sticks that can thrust through gaps in barricades and be used effectively in narrow corridors.
Phalanx worked for the Romans and it’ll damn we’ll work for us.
>>
>>5093343
Because I love Terry Pratchett. If an half-brick in a sock is enough to defeat the worst magical threat of the last millenial, good enough to bash some cultist skulls in.

I feel damn uncomfortable about all those windows. A few guys with guns could suppress us from the outside, and a grenade or molotov would fuck us up badly.

This looks like a canteen with a food counter, so there's bound to be a few sharp knives lying around. Duck tape those to the sticks to make ghetto spears, and hand the rest out as backup melee weapons. Main goal for the melee guys is to keep any attackers at a distance, spears are perfect for that. The broom in the back room should be turned into stick-spear #3.

Toss the chairs in front of the entrances to create difficult terrain and slow down the heretics. Also, can we lock the doors or sabotage them shut? Simply cutting their power might already buy us a few minutes.
>>
>>5093393
We could put tables against the wall in front of the windows, and hammer them or tape them to it.
>>
>>5093346
As much as I hate to say it, we are a guardsman in 40K. Terry Pratchett is most definitely not backing us up here.

>>5093455
> Fortify and fire from the windows
Might be able to draw them out onto a killing field and mop them up cleanly, assuming the space around the building isn't too cluttered.
Here's my suggested plan of action:
> Split into two teams. Smaller one on the ground, larger one on the higher floors.
> The ground team initiates combat by lightly spraying suppressing fire at the approaching heretics.
> Meanwhile the team stationed on the second floor hold their fire and line up shots, doing their best to remain undetected.
> When the cultists attempt to gain ground while the ground team reloads the team upstairs rains down death from their vantage point.
>>
>>5093455
>Block the windows, point guns to the door

>>5093465
Agreed. The upper floors may fire outside and whittle them down, but we have to dig in and bear the brunt of the assault. Us being able to shoot outside is not worth them being able to shoot inside. Block the windows, seal the doors if possible, and toss chairs and clutter in the entranceway.

A barricade only helps if the enemy is poorly armed and melee-heavy. Try to get a report on their general composition, how many and how well armed are they? That's absolutely essential to know. Also, the upper floors should hold fire until we're done fortifying or about to be attacked anyway. No need to draw attention before we're ready.
>>
>>5093490
Speaking of reloads, how much ammo and spare lasgun power packs do we have lying around? Do we even have any of the latter at all? Our lasgun is fine on a single pack for a few fights, but in an extended siege running out of charge will be a concern.
>>
>>5093455
Okay, we have just over three minutes until they arrive and I’ve been looking up various defence strategies from various time periods. Here are some good ones:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_warfare
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_strategies_and_concepts#Defensive_strategies
https://www.medieval-life-and-times.info/medieval-castles/defending-a-medieval-castle.htm

I say we
>Block the windows, point guns to the door
Windows are more numerous and difficult to watch. Setting up a choke at the long doorway means we have to watch far less entry points and can concentrate firepower. Besides, we always have the top-floor defenders to harry them from above so it’s not like we’ll lose the advantage of multiple positions just by fortifying the main entryway.
I also think we, Wisby and Lant should join the top-floor crew and take potshots before the enemy gets into range. When they get to the building we can head back down, but it would be a shame to waste our firepower just waiting when we could be taking free shots and thinning the herd. HOWEVER, we should use autoguns for sniping until the heretics figure out which building we’re in. Lasguns will give away our position immediately and I’d like to keep the cult confused as long as possible.

>how much ammo and spare lasgun power packs do we have lying around?
The small arms have more than enough power/munitions. The Autogun might run out if overused.

>Can we siphon diluted promethium or petroleum from a kitchen unit? We could make fire bombs.
The kitchen uses xenos appliances and is fully electric.

>Could we also ask Lant what regiment is he from
Emron Minor 19th Regiment, (Emron Minor is the planet you are on right now)

>half-brick in socks
sure whatever, Cas has one in his inventory for the rest of this battle.

"Let's not wait for them to barge in. We should fire from the windows." you assert.
Lant replies "If you say so. Someone's got to take command. You a corporal?"
Wisby lightly punches your arm "He's a chief!"
Lant scratches his head "Uh Good enough. Lead on."
"Listen up everyone. Push up those tables to barricade the windows. Ratlings, Lant and Heavy Weapons team give cover fire from the upper floors. Hold fire on the Las Weapons until they find our location. The rest of us will stay in here, and make sure no one gets up those stairs."
The men spring into action and haul upstairs leaving yourself and the Tau gun drone the only ones with proper weaponry guarding the entrance. You Help the civies haul the tables blocking vision through the windows. Shortly after the heavy autogun and sluggers begin to fire. You shout into the 'chron "Hello. Main Entrance. Status report?"
One of the ratlings replies on the the line "Hello. Aun'el street. Chaos forces are pinned behind cover. Some have broken off and are coming to main entrance from the flanks, they got xenos withem watch out!"
With the earsplitting KRAK of a grenade the left door bursts open. With some cultists and some hideous sexy creature that you can only assume is a warp bourne daemon.

Quick as lightning you shoot at each invader. You manage to drop two of the cultists. But the third and the daemon are too quick and rush in to attack. One of the civilians is shot down by the laspistol. "Another soul for Slaanesh!" He roars before the gundrone shoots him down. The Daemon, sprints forward and punctures your torso with it's razor sharp claw. You collapse backwards, with a searing pain boring through you. Not a second too soon, your allies brutalise the monster with their clubs. "Purge the alien!" "Kill the alien!" They snarl. Clutching your wound with one hand and your holochron in the other you report "Main entrance. Chaos forces eliminated. Losses: 1"
"Aun'el street, 5 more a minute away"
"Hey... you ain't hurt are you Chief?"
"Lo'taa street. 4 coming from the other side right now!"
You're hurt bad. You should probably get patch yourself up. With the hiss of melting plasteel you see the other door being broken down by lasguns.

You give the Daemon an extra shot to the skull to make sure it's dead. The carcass fades away into nothingness. Bizaare. Then you limp into the stairwell to patch yourself up. Holding your breath, you carefully angle your lasgun. Cauterising yourself with a lasbeam isn't exactly safe. The sound of the door crashing down roars from the next room, the shooting starts. You scorch the wound from the front and back, then bandage it with some kitchen cloth held tight by a knot.
"Hey catch!"
You catch something against your chest. A Painkiller. Looking up you see Wisby hurry down the stairs.
"Thanks Wis." You take the med, it quickly takes effect relieving some pain.
"Thought you sounded hurt." He grabs your hand and pulls you to your feet. "Let's finish this."
You rush out and join the defenders, the attackers are dead but your allies took some heavy losses as well.
Comm chatter shouts out "Fire warriors are hitting them from the other side, they're done for!"
You see the last wave of cultists that were approaching start to flee. Through an exposed sliver of window you see their main force is trapped between your Autogun and a hail of pulse rifles.

"Became a Guardsman over 2 years ago. A little bit after the Tau empire showed up. How about you?" you say through the walls.
"Yeah I've been a rank Guardsman for just over a year, I joined the Guard just in time for the Necrons to wake up on Magnan Majoris." Lant replies.
"That's some horrible luck. Did you get sent to MagMa? How are you even alive?" you ask surprised.
"Yeah I got sent there, but we gave up the campaign very fast. The high gravity and bad atmosphere was too much for us. I only saw combat against them twice."
"What was it like fighting necrons?"
He pauses for a bit to think, "I only ever saw one type of necron. They are really REALLY tough. And they don't stay dead, even when they're slagged. They are very predictable though. At least compared to Orks and Tau. I'd rather fight necrons than anything else."
"What happened after the campaign ended?"
"Went back home to Emron Minor as reinforcements. Fought against Orks and Tau until the Guard abandoned this planet too. Only this time I got left behind. And well... you know what we chose next."
You nod to yourself. To this day you wonder if you made the right choice to live under alien occupation.
You begin to tell your own story: "I got deployed to Emron Minor right away. Fought Orks and Tau like you did for 2 years. But over time there was less and less Orks and more and more Tau."
"You must of seen a lot of combat Vaede. How did YOU survive?"
"Easy, I was smart and broke the rules a little. Took Lasguns off dead guys and bypassed their heat limiters using field tools. Makes them powerful but they burn out after a few battles."
"Ha! I saw you'd given your Lasgun an Ork-job. You rat."
"Made ones for my comrades too. My entire squad was using them. Smoking Ork boys like they were nothing."
A voice buzzes from outside the cell. "I doubt they could stand against Fire Caste pulse rifles." Two fire caste guards approach the force field.
One continues "Gue'la Cas, please face the wall and place your hands on your head. You will be escorted to your physical exam."

Sure, the pulse rifle is fairly effective, the recoil of the gun requires the fire caste (not humans cuz we stronker) to be stationary to fire them effectively, not to mention its slower rate of fire. Good at tough big things, not so much an endless swarm of tyranids. Now lasguns, those are your best friends against them, not to mention that there are hundreds of thousands of different patterns in the Imperium. Although they all might look the same to your poor xenos eye sight, looks can be deceiving. Some lasguns are geared towards versatility with adjustable power and rates of fire, some are dedicated powerhouses that burn brightly but lasts shorter, and some are more potent than their lesser brethren. It also helps that almost all powerpacks can work for most different lasguns. Say what you will about Lasguns, they still remain the kings of rifles in the galaxy, thirty plus thousand years of supremacy baby!

Literal children can learn to use them, can any non-fire caste pick up a pulse rifle and use it long enough for their grandchildren to inherit it, with no facilities to repair or maintain it? Can they blow it up if needed? Overcharge them to drain their ammo in one shot? Make enough for billions of soldiers?

but yeah, objectively pulse rifles are better on individual level (plasma snipers and plasma burst rifles depending on what type of pulse rifle are you using)

but that doesnt take away from the lasgun advantages, wich are logistical rather than performance

lasguns are cheap, rugged and their ammo is easily accesible (charge them with energy,in some cases solar,in other heats,in others connect them on a charging infrastructure)

meaning that a lasgun can be used without much external support or repairing, where pulse rifles are always tied to technicians and logistics

the fact a random guardsmen could modify lasguns to its need without breaking them or blowing himself up,is a testament to the reliability and simplicity of lasguns

each has its advantages and issues

so we should respectfuly point both their advantages and issues, while politely following

>go along politely while informing them of the issues and advantages

Okay okay intermission time.

I'm fine with the players waifuing and attempting to romance alien characters.
I don't want to write gratuitous sex scenes though. (I didn't make Dark Eldar one of pickable races because of this).
The quest's tone is a lot lighter than a normal 40K quest thanks to the stickman artstyle and premise, so I'm not pedantic about lore accuracy.
It's really just about exploring what it's like to live as a human under the yoke of an alien race in 40K. Anyway I'm pretty sure the waifu fags are in the majority but I'll make a poll here just in case:

Of course people love the mysterious girl that's interested in you. But having a partner who cannot do wrong makes them a bland character who's route doesn't matter. Maiya being a crazy cultist is what makes her memorable, just like Tolku still being a firm believer in the Greater Good.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not against romancing as long as we have realistic choices which means no indoctrinated tomboy fire warrior gf with chances to irreparably fail. This is a choice quest, not a dice quest after all.

Like, fuck man, at least if she was a khorne or tzeentch cultist i'd understand since at least those could have started out benign. She literally just turned to chaos because she was bored.

That's it. She was bored of working for the administratum so she turned into the kind of degenerate that gets off by disemboweling themselves.
>>
>>5108774
As long as it's not the focus, Y. I'm still shocked we're still alive after the quick end to our previous character.
>>
>>5108980
You mean the character consistently rolling extrmely bad, that got her ass beaten twice, that we choice the high risk- high reward option for?
>>
>>5108963
I think you misunderstand. Maiya being a slaaneshi cultist is not her doing nothing wrong. It's her being a memorable character and our options with her actually mattering. The quest shouldn't have girls tailored to our tastes who we effortlessly win over. That only leads to even worse meltdowns than that one autist over maiya.

tldr, I just don't want a repeat of fate quest. Is that too much to ask?
>>
>>5108989
To be fair, she had way less of a choice due to being a slave to the orks. While Tau attempt to integrate people - even if through this totalitarian china-type system, they won't shoot your face if they feel kind of pissed off. Orks will krump you any moment they feel like it.

But yeah, even the QM said that now this has become more of a real quest (Cas Vaede, that is) as opposed to an faster situational thing like the first was, so we probably won't get a "You lose one roll, game over" type of deal.
>>
>>5108997
>The quest shouldn't have girls tailored to our tastes who we effortlessly win over.
I agree, but i feel like that's more so a description of a girl like tolku than maiya. Because, again, even if we're in a less grimdark and more light universe, she is literally a chaos cultist - and not only is she an chaos cultist, she's an slaaneshi cultist.

She's a memorable character, yes, i agree, but what i'm saying is that there's a long jump between a character that 'can't do wrong' and 'a character that worships the demonic deity of fucked up stuff'.

Honestly, have some REAL thicc tau tech.

As long as it isn't forced and is natural then yeah sure, it's a light hearted quest and not super grim dark.

I know Farsight has a former inquisitor advising him on matters of the Warp.

I don't think the Tau let humans pilot battlesuits but some part of me remembers some tidbit of lore stating it.

I'm pretty sure that gue'vesa can reach a rank high enough to have their own crisis suits.

>Anyone who takes anything in 40k seriously has missed the point.
Nah, 40k is over the top to the point of ridiculousness, but there are a lot of hidden truths and wisdoms underneath. Some of those truths would be far too painful otherwise, others are too subtle to really think through unless they're exaggerated into a caricature.

>Tech priesthood and archaeotech
Any sufficiently advanced tech stagnates and decays because of diminishing returns on further improvements. Mere application and maintenance requires far less effort, but the subsequent loss of understanding will only be noticed as a problem when it's already too late.
As tech becomes more complex and intransparent, rituals that usually just work replace meditated actions. In a few decades, you might first speak a petition to Alexa, Siri and Cortana whenever you want anything technical done, because one of them might hear and help you.
>Religious dogma
99+% of people are too stupid, lazy, cowardly and egocentric to develop an entire worldview with convictions and reasons to live. Most of those who try anyway fuck up horribly and end up with with mangled messes that are devastating to themselves and their surroundings (i.e. Chaos). It is best for them to not even try.
The Emperor's glorious vision was doomed from the start, since he was an idealist who didn't want to accept the shortcomings of man and blinded himself to them. This happens to most visionaries.
>Harsh Inquisition
If among a thousand suspects is only a single guilty one who would doom millions, it is better to kill them all than to let them go. Painful and unjust, but necessary.
With great power comes great irresponsibility. Carelessness and casual cruelty are common.
>Imperial system
Mankind will evolve whatever political system is necessary to withstand any given environment, and it will degenerate and corrupt itself to the point where it just barely does its job. The need for safety and stability trumps everything else.
The desire towards corruption and pointlessly excessive luxury will exist even under the most threathening circumstances.
>Rogue Traders
When you have a lot of money and (fire)power, the system will happily bend the rules for you.
>Commissariat
A lifetime of indoctrination and an obviously absolutely evil foe which will do even worse to those who refuse to fight is still not as motivating as a plain old gun to your head.
>Life is cheap
A million is indeed a statistic, and most lives do not really matter. They are doomed to die from birth, and their lasting impact is negligible.
>Happy orks
Ignorance truly is bliss. They don't bother with all that philosophy crap that brings everyone else only despair, and instead have fun.
>Degenerate eldar
Eternal blissful life without purpose and aspirations may seem sweet, but it is unnatural and leads to a wretched and ultimately self-destructive existence.

And a lot more that I won't bother to list.

This. The Imperium is doing about as well as it can be expected given it's running a galactic confederacy in a world where toasters have souls and the God of Hope is evil

Okay thanks for the replies.
Obv the waifufags outnumber the anti-waifufags and indifferents, but people mostly don't want that stuff dominating the quest.
I'll try not to focus on it too much or force anything disjointed.

(sorry but no update rn, will crank out a bunch of updates over the next few days to make up for my low activity recently)

Its alright man, glad you are taking time to hear out peoples opinion and what they want. This quest gives my days a bit more to look forward to (:

when we invest time and effort socializing with someone enough that they have sex with the MC?

and even if they do,it will be more likely a "dafe to black" type of scene, where sex is implied but not described/showed

only tasteful romance that have development behind,no waifufagging making them love the MC out of nowhere

You face against the wall with your hands on your head.
"Very well Shas'la, me will cooperate" you say politely, in their dumbass xeno language.
They apply your restraints and lead you out of the cell. "However..."
You begin to enlighten the ignormamuses about the superiority of Imperial munitions.
"...Lasguns deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that."
"Be silent! We are not meant to talk to prisoners." snaps one.
"Indeed, besides lasguns do less damage than ORK guns." adds the other, unable to resist having the last word.
They lead you on through the metal halls of their Tau military complex.
"Rifle is fine!" you continue, "Weapon damage is only one factor. Consider recoil, mobility, firerate, versatility, reliability, ammunition, usability, maintenance and cost effectiveness."
"You speak rubbish Gue'la!" Says the curmudgeonly one, apparently forgetting he's not supposed to talk, "Were I Shas'ui I would give you a demerit on the spot! It is well known Tau boasts the finest weapons."
"Esteemed Earth caste engineers are constantly making improvements to Tau weaponry. Gue weaponry is stagnant backwater." the other retorts.
"Imperial weaponry is the greatest in galaxy! There is no need for further improvement." You conclude.
Finally you stop at the door of some sort of medical bay.
"Clearly you are in dire need of reeducation prisoner." says a guard as he opens the door.
"You will learn the superiority of the glorious Fire Caste in time. Good luck human." says the other shoving you in.

The door closes vertically, and you find yourself face to face with a Kroot.
The alien speaks in its strange croaky voice, "I am doctor. Take off shirt. I will inspect you for mutation."
You comply, a little suprised at the fluency of this bestial looking alien. It suddenly gets *very* close and lays its hands on your sides causing you to shudder. You've seen the bonesnapping strength of these hands first hand. The grisly snapping noises replay in your head for a moment. "You are not tyranid. You are not corrupted by chaos. I will apply fresh treatment to your injuries." the Kroot announces, and pulls an Imperial Guard medikit from a drawer.

kroots are nice

their culture is a martial honor one
fight worth adversaries in mostly honorable combat

where honorable combat is either by being mercenaries on wars/conflicts (at wich point is soldiers killing soldiers, both sides doing their duty)

or by previously agreed duels

they eat adversaries to gain their strenght and to honor them in order to at least continue their legacy

and outside of combat they are laid back and easy going with little to no prejudice

and more importantly, the kroot are one of the biggest intelligence webs on warhammer

they have a sort of "soft hivemind" in wich they can share memories of stuff they have eaten with each other (albeit in a really vague manner)

>He let the fire blaze for a few minutes, then took out a piece of stiff, waxed hide and smothered the flames. A thick plume of smoke rose from the charred pieces and he placed the hide over his head, leaning low over the blackened mess, taking long, deep breaths, letting the fumes flood his consciousness. His head grew light and his stomach growled. He saw the craggy eyries of his home on Akchan-Kur. He saw the farewell ceremony at the Perch of Nine Hawks, standing at the pinnacle, victorious, rain-lashed and surrounded by his warrior kin. The elders summoned him home, insisting that he alone, the oldest of his kind, had the experience to journey to the Western Reaches. The Karakh-Kar had warriors scattered across the galaxy, serving in countless armies. They knew of the Blackstone’s presence long before the warlords of Terra [!!!!].

Having a Kroot touch you is always considered gay since they breed by rubbing their palms on the back of others. Something about cum secreting pours on their palms.
