Last time out, you apprehended a petty thief, ate cheese and restarted your investigation on the most suspicious person you know: Lieutenant Vanessa van Zuspicious. Right now, the iffy cop revealed that her master plan is in effect or something like that, prompting Kobashi to pursue another clue trail at the station. You’re left with the suspect, Yareli, and the tomato duo. You’re trying to unveil the truth that the lieutenant is so painstakingly hiding... Too bad she and Yareli left the room so she could change her clothes.

“We’re rrready to help, Phil!” Mirjam is on her feet at last, her tummy being full of sweet goodness made her struggle to stand up.

“We’ll do anything you want! Just say the word!” Grace too is a victim of ‘the unnecessary sugary ingestion’ slowdown. They’re acting like Mini-Ninas, not like Nina is taller than them, it’s just… err… You know

“Thank you, girls!” You pat both of their heads. You need some restraint, you’re doing this absentmindedly lately…

“What are we looking for?” Grace wants to know how to help.

You have an investigation team; you better use it properly!

What do you do?

>Send the Team to inspect thoroughly inside van Zullekom’s room. You don’t care if she’s changing clothes or not!
>Ask them to look behind the furniture for the mysterious Safe.
>Ask them to bring Zullekom here, right here, right now. The Final phase of the interrogation will be underway!
>Call Crossbill. She’s an essential part of this puzzle! Ask for the password!
>Write In.

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

[Meanwhile, a few streets away where the battle against the Behemoth is happening…]

“These Judges are really saying that?! If you take him out, you’ll keep it?” George Adams asks Henry as both are running through the streets towards the battlefield. They managed to get through the police surrounding the area. Trespassing through the roofs, where they spotted an obnoxious amount of cats – so they went back down to street level.

“Yeah, the crystal piece that monster has will be ours! It’s our ticket to the top!” Henry responds confidently. “Why don’t you take my word for it?!”

“You got the street wrong, didn’t you?” George chuckles. They went in the wrong direction for the last 30 minutes.

“Not one more step, you two.” A commanding voice makes the Green Shield duo stop in their tracks. “Turn back to your mommas before things get ugly, as not even the moonshine can cast a pretty picture over there.” From the alleyway ahead of them appears… err... It’s just Billy. Billy Buonanotte.

“Oh no, not you…” Henry rolls his eyes.

“Who’s that?” George asks his friend for info.

“He’s just a guy who works with Uccelli.” Henry responds with disgust.

“Oh, hey there, sir, nice to meet you!” George is way too friendly with people.

“You were warned, Mr. Collins. The Madam with Eccentric hair doesn’t want you or anyone near here. It’s a private party…” Perfect Billy slides both hands horizontally from shoulder to shoulder. “…And none of us are invited.” He loses all grandeur as he looks disappointed.

“I told her that me and the Motley Crew are through. Now move out of the way.” Henry is willing to fight.

“Your friend knows you’re sending him to a death trap?” Billy points at George.

“Yeah, I’m not like y’all. I don’t keep secrets from my bros.” Henry shouts back.

“G-GRh…! T-The Kitty Kat Whisperer says you’re a frickin’ motherfricker that should turn back.” Billy listens to his ear piece.

“Tell her to shove it up her ass.” Henry is not going to listen to this anymore.

“You’re gambling your life away here, schmuck.” Billy has one last warning.

“It’s a bet I’m willing to take.” Henry doesn’t care about the risks, only the rewards.

“The house always wins, baby. And you’re a street bum.” Billy prepares to defend the line.

Before this battle has the chance to commence, another player joins the party, he has one of the Yellow Flying Referees on his shoulder, and he’s coming through the middle of both fighting parties…

“Oh, you guys have demons…” It’s a guy named Joe, famous for doing very little with the Assembly. The Bird alerted him of the presence of Flame Users. “Hello, I know it’s such a pain in the ass after coming all the way over here, but could you please leave the area?”

“W-Who are you?” Henry steps back and goes on the defensive.

“That’ll take time to explain and it doesn’t matter.” Joe looks away, seemingly uninterested, but planning something.

“It matters for making an informed decision, really. Don’t you think so?” George tries to joke around a little.

“I guess, but it’s simple in this case: Walk in, get hurt. Walk out, go home.” Joe lackadaisically stretches his arms. “I’m not one for violence, but a job’s a job, and I have let too many people pass through already.”

“You’re putting an end to this show before it hits its groove?” Billy puts his back against the nearest wall.

“Sounds like a hassle… But I gotta do what I gotta do.” Joe throws the bird to the air…

It seems a match is about to begin.

Back to the Bubble...

“Something I need a password for.” You reveal to the tomato duo.

“Oh, like a treasure chest?” Grace is greatly interested in booty.

“You’re pretty close.” You point at Pigtails. “But even if we find it, we can’t open it. We need the password first. I’ll make a swift call.”

“We’ll be rrresting here for a bit then.” Mirjam throws herself on the couch. She couldn’t keep up with her weight.

“We’ll send you good vibes from over here.” Grace joins her sister as her food baby weighs her down. Now on the couch, both stretch their arms towards you and wave their hands. Good vibes are being sent indeed!

You walk over to the phone on the wall and dial Crossbill’s number. The dorm’s receptionist answers, and she transfers your call over to Room 111 as you requested.

“Yes? Who’s there?” Crossbill isn’t the politest of people.

“It’s me, Crossbill.” You set the mood.

“Knockout… it’s been a while.” Crossbill is ready to do business.

“No, not really.” You shake your head. It’s been like, what? 2 or 3 hours?

“Y-You pettifogging four-eyes, just tell me why you’re calling!” Crossbill didn’t appreciate being corrected. Nobody ever does… “I didn’t think it would be this soon, so what gives?” Crossbill steadys her tone.

“I need your help.” You get back to serious mode too. “I need the code; you know the one.”

“And why should I give it to you?” Crossbill won’t be easy to bargain with.

“It’ll help with what I’m doing right now.” You keep it vague.

“You’re no god of thunder, I’m not going to let you steal my thunder.” Crossbill isn’t willing to dispatch the information.

Quite objectively, the easiest-to-call roadblock you were going to have on this route! Time to circumvent it or brute force it!

How do you respond?

>“I have little to no interest in the object you desire. You can keep it for all I care, come over and take it.” Be willing to give the Magical Ring of Courage or something to Crossbill.
>“I’ll pick you up and throw you into the air all you want if you help me out!” You know she likes it!
>“Your trophy will remain in the safe, I’m interested in what else it contains. By the time I’m done, I’m sure this heist will be more challenging for you. Something only a master thief will succeed in stealing.” You really don’t want to steal her thunder, but you need some of the sparks.
>“Lives are at stake here, Crossbill. I need you to trust me on this one and cooperate.” You are not playing games.

“Your trophy will remain in the safe, I’m interested in what else it contains.” You couldn’t care less about that stupid ring. “By the time I’m done, I’m sure this heist will be more challenging for you. Something only a master thief will succeed in stealing.”

“She’s going to change the password, Knockout. I’ll have nothing for myself.” Crossbill points out that this is to her detriment.

“Oh, I didn’t know a mere code was enough to stop the great Crossbill…” You sarcastically reply.

“Ooooh you! Oooooh you! You’ll see!” Crossbill’s blood is boiling! “I’m gonna crack that safe open with your head if I have to!”

“I think the safe is sturdier.” You know she won’t get what she wants.

“I-I’m NOT saying it literally!” Crossbill’s buttons are being pushed with ease.

“I’m joking, chill…” You don’t want her to keep chirping in anger. You’re on a time limit. “In any case, are you going to tell me?”

“Your name.” Crossbill wants to make a trade. “Tell me your name and I’ll give you the password. I need to know who’s causing me so much strife today.”

Will you tell Crossbill your name?

>Yeah, why not? If she’s willing to give you the password, you can pretty much trust her.

“My name is Phil.” You nonchalantly reveal.

“You trust me now, huh?” Crossbill remembers why you didn’t tell her at first. “The safe’s code is 26, 21, 19.”

“Thanks, Crossbill.” You mean every word.

“This doesn’t change the fact that I will take your glasses, Phil. And if you take the ring away, I’m gonna steal it from you!” Crossbill has her challenges laid out: You and that safe, or just you. You can feel her smirking. “You got what you wanted, I’m not gonna take more of your time... Until next time!”

“Take care!” You fraternally reply. The phone has been hung from the other side, you put it on the wall. “Okay, girls, it’s time to get to work!”

“I’m ready! You mentioned a safe, is that what we are looking for?” Mirjam was paying attention. Just like how she behaves during classes!

“We’re looking for a safe? Cool! I was getting sleepy…” Grace rubs her eyes all tired. Just like how she behaves during classes…

“Yup, somewhere in this house, van Zullekom must’ve hidden one. Let’s look around!” You’re ready to conduct this investigation.

It took around 12 minutes to find the safe. It was in the living room behind one of the random display cases, Grace noticed how odd it was that one entire row was empty, and upon further investigation, you all found a line gap on the wall behind it. After moving it out of the way, you find that the gap is a perfect rectangle. You pulled it like a little door to find the safe under it. That was easier than you thought, you didn’t have to leave the room.

“You did a grrreat job, Grace!” Mirjam is proud of her sister for noticing. One part of you thinks there is a way to open it up through the display case, hence why it is empty, but you aren’t sure how.

“No! We did a great job, Mirjam!” Grace is happy to share the credit. “Now what, Phil?”

“Open it, I think.” You’re too curious to know what’s inside to give another answer.

“W-What’s going on in here?!” Lt. van Zullekom has arrived after her wardrobe change!

“You found it.” Yareli should look impressed, but she looks like she found out one of her old teachers at school was in the obituary.

“S-Stop right there, everyone! T-This is an immense invasion of my privacy and I condemn it firmly! D-Don’t touch that safe!” After her ominous words to Kobashi, the suspicious cop has an impressive change of tone. “I’m still a member of the police force and I won’t allow this!”

“You know we have the password?” Grace is confused by van Zullekom’s reaction. Yeah, Vanessa wouldn’t react like this if she thinks the only way you can break into it is with brute force.

Y-You do?!!” van Zullekom might be more stupid than you thought.

“…Vanessa, be quieter.” Yareli is at odds with the noise…

“It’s too late now, Lieutenant van Zullekom. Confess, or we’ll find the truth by ourselves.” You tap the safe to make your point.

You… You must certainly be bluffing…” Lt. van Zullekom holds her harrowing face with both hands.

“Nope, he’s not!” Grace wants to destroy any hope in the cop’s body.

“Not at all! We can recite the passworrrrd if you like!” Mirjam doesn’t want Lt. van Zullekom to harbor any useless hope. Yeah, you told them in case you forgot.

“It’s 26!” Grace jumps in place!

“21!” Mirjam jumps too! They are enjoying teasing the lieutenant…

“And—”

Enoooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggh!” Lt. van Zullekom screeches to stop both girls mid-sentence, using both hands to cover face. Both tomatoes get scared and hide behind you.

“Don’t faint now.” Yareli starts shaking van Zullekom. “We have no time to spare.”

“Curses… This is truly the end of the road, isn’t it…?” van Zullekom tries to gather some dignity. She walks over the display case you moved out of the way, she somehow takes out a bottle of wine and a cup, and serves herself a glass. She drinks it one go. Then she smells the empty glass… that’s not how it works. “One last treat.”

“You said it.” Yareli takes the bottle away. “Please, commence. The floor is yours.”

“What is there to say, really?” van Zullekom has a longing look on her face as her eyes get lost in the glass she’s playing with.

“A lot.” You wouldn’t have bothered if it was otherwise! “I bet it’s a long story.”

“H-How did you know…? You’re quite perceptive, Mr. Noon! No wonder you’ve gotten this far.” van Zullekom won’t ever be taken seriously. “The truth of the matter is that I, Captain Vanessa van Zullekom, worked alongside those outside the law in retaliation to what this country did to me... A fact I’m not proud of.”

“Your demotion, I assume.” Yareli must feel let down because she ain’t showing it.

“It’s not that simple…” Lt. van Zullekom is offended at the idea. “I’m considered an outsider to those in power. I was deployed at the unspeakable war. The army was sending people indiscriminately, including police women like me who only received a modest amount of training. Naturally, at that point, the situation was dire. I worked at one Medical Unit, within it, I was made its leader because of the lack of personnel. There was not a command line in place, most actual soldiers were gone, we only received distress call after distress call inside the camp. So, I took charge and led the unit into the battlefield to rescue the wounded, helping save dozens of lives with little to no casualties. Among them, people who held important positions within the army. My and my team’s performance was deemed stellar, and after the war I and many others were promoted within the police ranks.”

“We’re getting her entire life story, aren’t we?” Grace murmurs to Mirjam.

Ssssh…” Mirjam just wants her to be quiet!

“The promotion system in our police is rigid, you have to work miracles to raise the ranks to anything above Detective. Those positions were reserved for relatives or friends of highly influential individuals within the government. But once you reach them, it’s far easier to get promoted. It took me far too long to realize it, at that point I was a Police Captain.” Captain van Zullekom stares with a yearning desire at the safe.

“Yeah…” You remember that Kobashi wants to find that super thief to get promoted, so her story checks out.

“As Captain, I lead an important police unit that was tasked to safeguard some of the state’s most important guests. The last one I oversaw was a Yuropean Minister of Justice. The procedures were different, heedless, everything was off. The higher-ups just wanted this guest to be treated differently. I tried to pay no mind, but couldn’t. When I went back to check on the Minister during the night, and he was already assassinated… by a member of the police.” The Ex-Police Captain prances around, every step heavier than the last.

“…” Yareli looks away, perturbed.

“I failed in my duties, but I reported what I saw. And then a trial was held, one that deemed me as the main perpetrator. Yurop pressured our country to find the culprit and for him to be extradited as soon as possible. The trial was rigged. The clues we gathered were changed, the witnesses’ testimonies were false, and all pleas of the defense were ignored. I was the only person in the upper ranks that was disposable to these people. I was thrown away to Yurop…” van Zullekom giggles…

“Yurop’s law is interesting, it doesn’t recognize the rulings of countries that are currently governed by dictatorships. So, I was re-trialed under Yuropean law. My stay was less than welcoming, I was public enemy number one, my name was leaked to the newspapers and I was treated like human garbage. I was jailed and dehumanized. And there was no man willing to defend me in court. Except… One special lawyer. One of the people I guarded, someone I befriended, sent the best lawyer he knew to come to my aid… In fact, many of the civvies who I guarded came to the trials and some testified in my favor. As the farce was being dismantled, our country sent its own legal counsel to save face, but I was deemed innocent of all charges.” Even if it sounds nice, the Policewoman doesn’t look happy.

“I was sent back to Prancijan, some offered me to stay, but I declined – I didn’t want to stay another day in that despicable country anymore. Unlike with the rest of the world, no soul in Prancijan knew what I went through, the trials, not even the death of the minister was publicly known. I was told I wasn’t allowed to speak a word about what happened to me. And I was demoted because I could’ve done better to defend myself. Through an agreement, I was given the highest position at one of the most faraway towns in the country: Xumenlo. But if I cause any type of scandal… I will be killed.” van Zullekom stares down with impotent rage. “I worked tirelessly to make this town the best I could… But it wasn’t fulfilling… I needed justice. I want JusticeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

“I’m sorry…” After a few seconds of letting it sink in, you apologize. You didn’t know she went through a lot… Everyone in this place seems to have.

“It’s so awful! Here, have some cake!” Grace felt bad too! She cut a piece of the huge cake for van Zullekom!

“H-Huh? You cut some too?!” Mirjam had a piece herself ready to be gifted.

“We can pile them up!” Grace drops her piece on Mirjam’s plate, and both hand it over.

“T-Thank you!” Lt. van Zullekom will never reject a free cake despite her shock! “But none of you were responsible for what happened!”

“You can feel sorry for someone else, Vanessa.” Yareli retorts. SHE CAN FEEL SORRY?! “But sadly, this isn’t the end of the story.”

Twats wight.” The tortured cop shouldn’t talk with her mouth full… Bye Bye cake. “This isn’t the end…” Vanessa puts the plate away.

“Do you know the name of the policeman that actually killed the minister?” You want to get as many clues as you can.

“Sgt. Villiers was the culprit, I’m sorry but I can’t recall his first name.” Lt. van Zullekom looks genuinely apologetic. Wait, isn’t that Lise’s last name? Wouldn’t that be her father…? If you reveal this fact, you might get questioned yourself, so you better be quiet for now.

“So, for justice, what did you do?” You’ll learn about the misdoings the ex-Captain did in retaliation.

“…I’ll explain.” Vanessa puts her police jacket on. “My hands were tied, anything I might try will spell the end of me. I focused on leaving my options open, so I purposefully picked this faraway town as a means to an end. There’s a Confidential Communication System for high ranked police enforcers for classified information and secret orders, from Captain onwards. Due to a miscommunication between two stations due to this level of secrecy, the highest ranked member of all stations despite their sizes have access to it.”

“I never heard of this before.” Yareli should act surprised after saying something like that! “So, you picked this position to still get access.”

“Yes, during my time as Captain, I used to coordinate when and where to move our guests for their safety, but I was aware of more information thrown around.” Lt. van Zullekom sighs. “I had the tools at my disposal but no plan, until an old friend of mine showed up.”

“Who exactly?” Yareli wants names! And pictures!

“Nothing in the safe will help unveil his identity, and I’m not one who takes her allies down with her. I’ll never lose my focus on that regard.” Lt. van Hypocrite doesn’t recall her Liam murdering plot from yesterday.

“He came to me after I settled down here in Xumenlo with a plan. He learned about what happened to me and made me an offer… I only had to do very little, share the information I got from the Police Confidential Communication System about certain powerful individuals, high-ranked officers, important government officials, and their movements to him. And that’s what I did.” van Zullekom continues talking.

“For what purpose?” Yareli is writing all of this down on her notepad.

“To steal their valuables from them! He was obsessed with the idea that he needed to take away important jewelry from Prancijan’s biggest tycoons. He had a vision of sorts, like a dream in which some deity tasked him to do so. To save the world.” Lt. van Zullekom is being honest.

“She lost me.” Grace is let down.

“Maybe it was an alien? Aliens like pretty rrrrocks!” Mirjam has her own theory.

“N-No, d-d-d-don’t say t-that!” Grace is terrified. “C-Can you say something normal like he was drunk or something?!”

“Whether I believe him or not is up to debate. One part of me does, I have witnessed paranormal events of my own. One of the state guests I had to protect made us visit one temple in the countryside, and this little spiritualist kid made a ball go shwoosh in the air! I was in deep shock like you couldn’t believe!” Lt. van Zullekom tries to sound less crazy to both tomatoes, but none of them are buying it. “B-But I swear on all the poptarts in the world that I’m not lying! Everything that has come out of these lips is the honest truth!”

“Your revenge is stealing from them like some petty thief?” Yareli isn’t impressed in the slightest. “Why are you stopping the orphanage investigation then?”

“Ophelia Bruun has one important valuable he’s chasing after, if she’s taken away, who knows what is going to happen to it. My friend is determined to steal it...” Lt. van Zullekom looks down. “I started with sharing the information, then I had to cover his tracks, and now I have to stop an investigation from occurring, allowing innocents to suffer… but at last, it’s all over now.”

Zullekom has come to terms with the consequences of her actions…

What do you do?

“Your friend is that Houda Lan guy, right?” You scratch the back of your head. It’s such an obvious question it makes you doubt yourself that no one has pointed that out…

“…” Lt. van Zullekom gives you a tender look, like she found inner peace. “Oh, Mr. Noon, I didn’t hear you clearly. Can you repeat the –AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!” Okay. She found anything but that. Her eyes turn white and she starts wobbling around like she’s dizzy…

You, Yareli, Mirjam and Grace managed to calm down the Lieutenant before she fainted from the utter shock of this revelation, by patting her on the back and offering sweets.

“Here, more cake!” Mirjam hands another piece of cake to Zullekom. She has recovered from the shock for the most part.

“Thank you, dear.” Lt. van Zullekom has her soul back.

“So, you’re working with Officer Kobashi’s biggest enemy?” Grace can’t believe this is what’s going on. A sudden turn of events nobody saw coming but you.

“No.” Zullekom shakes her head, she turns to Yareli who’s glaring at her with an immense but silent ire – like she does to everyone. “Y-Yes.” Zullekom changes her mind.

“There’s no point in hiding what’s left, is there?” Yareli wants to squeeze every single detail from her boss.

“I-I can’t come up with anything of note after r-revealing his identity, Officer Yareli...” Lt. van Zullekom isn’t trying to hide anything anymore.

“You understand that that’s his alias, correct?” The cold cop knows about this case.

“You should understand that it’s not…” Vanessa retorts without trying to sound sarcastic. “The fact that it’s discussed is a trick in itself. I wish you the very best if you decide to pursue him, because I know little about his whereabouts or methods. His next objective is Ophelia Bruun, but that’s the extent of my knowledge.”

“How do you communicate with him?” Yareli wants answers.

“Over the phone. I receive his calls when he needs me, he changes his number constantly; the last one I got doesn’t work anymore, most likely because he was on his way here.” Lt. van Zullekom isn’t trying to hide anything on purpose.

“Do you really believe his story? Don’t you think he was using you to get his hands on enormous amounts of money?” Yareli wants to know on which side Zullekom is.

“I have a heavy conscience. When I looked into his eyes, I couldn’t doubt him. But as his wrongdoings continued to pile up, I felt like I was being used for a pretty penny.” Lt. van Zullekom is only stupid in short bursts.

“I built a backup plan in case I was wrong. I’m the one who fed the idea to officer Kobashi to capture Houda Lan. I lead him in the right direction, giving him enough breadcrumbs to keep him interested, but not enough to capture him. I had no doubts in my heart that you and Officer Kobashi would’ve found the truth, it was a matter of time. Now, you got an extra breadcrumb that I wasn’t expecting…” The policewoman turns to you.

You didn’t even care about that Houda guy…

What do you do?

Can't we let Houda Lan steal what he wants AND help us take out Ophelia Bruun for her evil schemes and succeed in helping Yareli with her case? Johnny can go invisible and he knocks people out in one hit like he's a Deus Ex main character. Depending on what Houda Lan wants to steal, we can do his job for him and get him to cooperate with us for justice

There’s still something missing in the equation: the reason why Ophelia sent coded messages through Liam. If they weren’t for van Zullekom, then who were they for? Could it be there’s another agent at play here? Kobashi could be the culprit…? You basically discarded everyone else involved, but you don’t really think so. Nobody who prepares pudding for the tomatoes can be evil! It’s one of those mysteries you’ll have to resolve later.

“I-I would advise you to follow Janeeva Conventions from now on, Mr. Breadcrumb.” Lt. van Zullekom doesn’t want to be poked again.

“Yeah, I went too far in a few places…” You had to become a bigger evil to defeat the minor ones. But was that cost worth it?

“What are those?” Grace has no clue about those. Well, she doesn’t pay too much attention in classes, so it’s expected.

“No clue.” Mirjam doesn’t know either. Maybe they weren’t taught about human rights. What a surprise…

“Ophelia being one of his targets is the real reason why you started investigating the Orphanage of the Blue, right?” Yareli won’t stop asking questions.

“T-That’s correct, Houda informed me months ago about his intentions. I collected data on my own to make it easier for him, and for other reasons. But due to my proximity to her she was deemed a low priority target. I urged him to strike as soon as possible; the information I came across was too appalling to ignore, she needed to be stopped, but he kept dismissing me.” Lt. van Zullekom feels an enormous amount of guilt. “I had my reports ready to forward them the moment he was done. To my surprise, you two already started your own investigation, so I had no other option but to delay your efforts whatever the cost. I’m sorry…”

“The cost wasn’t whatever…” Grace’s eyes move down. Mirjam joins her sister in empty staring.

“Vanessa, you understand that what you have isn’t enough to get a favorable verdict?” Yareli has issues with van Zullekom’s plan.

“W-With this, clue gathering would be relatively easy.” Lt. van Zullekom doesn’t seem to understand.

“The government will bury this case unless it’s undeniable, your clues will be dismissed.” Yareli shakes her head. “All you would’ve gotten is getting yourself killed, you said it yourself, even the smallest of scandals and you’ll be off for good.”

“I-I was aware of the risks, yes…” van Zullekom wouldn’t have hesitated to put this forward either way…

“You’re really quite idiotic, aren’t you?” Yareli has no chill! Zullekom has that stupid shocked look on her face. “So, you got any information about the item Ophelia has that your friend wants to steal? Like its location?”

“I-I have not. I apologize… L-Like I said before, I didn’t go out of my way to investigate.” Lt. van Zullekom spent her time researching nothing useful for Houda. “I’m certain it should be in the Orphanage building, but I don’t know the interior…”

“I see.” Yareli sounds disappointed as she continues scribbling on her notepad.

You’ve decided it, it’s time for some action now!

“Vanessa, just let the investigation go through and we’ll never talk about this.” You make an offer. “You’ll be safe. I promise!”

“Huh?! A-Apologies, I’m so out of focus right now I think I misheard you!” van Zullekom is thunderstruck like no one else is. “Y-You want to let this pass…?”

“W-Would officer Yareli agree to this though…?” Mirjam has her doubts.

“To send Vanessa to her death? The law must first be just to be enforced.” Yareli is not a monster! She’s just emotionless! “We’ll find a way you can pay your dues later.”

“Does that mean that awful Orphanage is going to close?!” Grace is so excited she almost forgot her tummy is too full to move around easily.

“Is Wilma going to be fine?!” Mirjam’s eyes are sparkling too, and it’s not for food this time!

“Don’t get ahead of yourselves, girls. We still need one piece of conclusive evidence.” Yareli destroys the party atmosphere that was building.

“Well, we’re not really on the lawful side anymore, all this skullduggery and all that, so why don’t we plan our raid on the orphanage with Houda?” You propose.

“No, I don’t think so.” Yareli won’t work alongside another criminal. Only Oliver gets that right.

“C’mon, Officer Yareli! It sounds like it could be really cool! Good and Evil working together to defeat a bigger badder evil!” Grace eggs on the unfazed cop.

“Besides, you need to make surrrre Wilma and the others will be fine!” Mirjam helps with being a nuisance too.

“…” Yareli sighs. She doesn’t like this one bit. “How are you planning for that to happen?”

“I’ll find him at the orphanage, then we’ll talk.” You adjust your glasses, displaying confidence. It’s a solid plan after all. “I just need to stop him before he gets what he wants!”

“Phil sneaked inside once and rrrrescued Wilma!” Mirjam gives you her full confidence.

“And he can do it again!” Grace trusts you too! You feel good being so appreciated.

“Here, ciivy.” Lt. van Zullekom hands you a dog plushie, kinda cute… “Show it to him. When he sees it, he’ll know you’re friends with me! Tell him to call me if he’s still skeptical.”

“All right!” You grab the small plushy and put it inside your hoodie pocket.

“You have one hour and a half.” Yareli checks her wristwatch. She knows about your invisibility, so she knows you’ll do a good job. “One minute more, and I’ll intervene.”

“Aye!” You’re ready to go! You’ll have to walk to get there, but you recall more or less where it is.

Your sole mission is to find this legendary Phantom Thief guy before he gets the treasure! This sounded easier in your head a moment ago, but…

What’s the plan?

>Find Ophelia’s Room. He must be there if he’s trying to find something she’s hiding personally!

“Good luck, Phil! Be careful out there!” Grace tries to act all cute before you go.

“I-Is he really going all alone?” Mirjam is concerned about your well-being.

“Hey, what happened? You were cheering me on just a moment ago! I’ll be fine!” You sound confident so Mirjam can relax.

“Huh?! I-I just... The thing is… Huh… I’m sorrrry!” Mirjam didn’t want to make you doubt yourself.

“Hehehe, you’re so silly.” Grace starts waving her hands around her waist.

“Officer Yareli has my back, relax. Besides, I don’t think I’ll need her help anyway.” You smirk.

“Bring that ego down a notch. I’ve seen what arrogant men do.” Yareli has a flashback about the dumb things Kobashi has done. “Now go. We’ll be waiting.”

“Godspeed to you, Mr. Noon. Don’t do anything reckless.” Lt. van Zullekom appreciates you despite all the torture…

“Just be sure to pay their fees for the whole day so they can relax.” You wink back. You’ll get those two girls a good break. “Now, see ya later!”

“Take them down, Phil!” Grace gets all pumped.

“And be carrrreful!” Mirjam is all nervous for you. You can’t fail them now!

Sprinting from van Zullekom’s place to the orphanage is a terrible idea, so you’ll jog instead! After so many intense events lately, you feel like you have infinite stamina except for the invisibility headaches. So you don’t have infinite stamina at all, but it’s not about facts but feelings! You sound like a moron… This is what happens when you’re surrounded by dummies!

You arrive at the Orphanage of the Blue, the place looks exactly the same as last time, as blue as ever. It’s never going to stop bothering you. The gardener Seib is nowhere around, it doesn’t look like there’s anyone in here. Easier job for you, and after so many stealth missions, this’ll be quick!

With your invisibility veil on, you sneak inside through a window carelessly left open, you’re at that lobby of sorts, still spacious and with the same furniture for people to sit, the long table in place as well – and the same toys lying around just in different spots. Before you thought this place might be cozy if it wasn’t as blue, but you find it much creepier now.

Details aside, you must find Ophelia's office! You doubt it is upstairs because that’s where the children’s rooms are, and if you want to do creepy stuff, you must do it away from the kids! You think… You’re not a cultist. You should’ve asked Xavi. Wait. Naiad is here. She might know something.

Naiad poses to indicate one door near the table at the back. She was smart enough to read the plate that indicates that’s the office! It doesn’t say who’s office, but it’s an office nonetheless! You thank Naiad for her help and slowly make your way there.

“Partner, there’s someone inside.” Philonune can feel it too. You approach it more carefully…

You put your face on the door to hear what’s inside, and yes, you hear someone moving stuff around…

What do you do?

You knock on the door to gauge the reaction of whoever is inside.

You get no response. You can’t even hear anyone moving inside anymore, not even a peep, the awkwardness fills the building, and you’re not sure what to do next.

There are two options here, you found your man, or… maybe one of the kids sneaked in. You can’t forget you’re in an orphanage…

What do you do?

[Meanwhile, at Pokyo Lokyo’s Highest Security Prison, in one of the cells…]

Psstt… Boss. Boss!” It’s the legendary Markgician! He’s peeking his head from one of the tiles on the ground from within the cell.

“Hmph…? I was having one of the most wonderful dreams. One of childhood. I miss those Peaceful days.” Ammirati awakens from his slumber, yawning in the process. “What would I give to become a child again.” He sits on his stiff bed.

“Boss! Everything is going according to how you planned it! We can go!” The Markgician urges Ammirati to hurry.

“Whatever do you mean?” Ammirati looks around to see no guards around, which is odd at this place.

“Your escape plan, boss! The one you gave me in case something went wrong. I heard the Behemoth is creating the big distraction! The big sideshow! What else?” The Markgician is earnestly answering Ammirati’s questions without detecting the sarcasm.

“Oh yes. Leave me here, my learned friend. I don’t want to cause you any trouble.” Ammirati is not interested in going. “And please, just call me Bernie.”

“B-But the monster is only going to cause chaos once! This is our only chance.” The Markgician knows this isn’t a game you can quit now.

“You were at the trial, my funny man, I yielded! Don’t you remember? My enemies are content with never seeing my face again. There’s nothing for me out there to do or enjoy. And that’s all ginger-peachy for me.” Ammirati waves The Markgician off. “Nevertheless, there is something I want you to do.”

“What is it, Bernie boss?” The Master Escapist is all ears.

“The man next to my cell… Last time I saw him was over 20 years ago… help him out of here, will you?” Bernie chuckles. “Give him my regards. Perhaps this display of kindness will loosen his lips next time he comes back… And he will tell me how he knew.”

“Knew what, sir?” The Markgician is confused.

“The reason we’re all fighting for. Well, until I quit! Ha!” Ammirati has a good belly laugh. “Go on your way, boy, before your window of opportunity expires. No need for sentimentalities now.”

“Don’t worry, Bernie. I already took a souvenir! I’ll see what I can do!” The Markgician disappears…

“Souvenir?” Bernie knows the cell is all but empty aside from his presence… He touches his pants. “Motherfucker.”

Bernie’s laughter is echoed through the prison, as the Markgician is digging an escape route for the other inmate…

Back to the Bubble…

You don’t want to give whoever is inside enough time to react, in that case, you better open the door quickly to check who’s inside! You put your fingers on the doorknob and push inside…

There’s no one here, but something doesn’t feel right. It’s actually quite a nice office Ophelia has here, no childish decoration, bookshelves on every wall, a tidy desk with a comfortable chair. On the desk there’s a PC monitor, a phone and a few papers. There are a couple of books piled up on the carpet, which makes you believe someone was messing with this place.

Well, whoever is in here must be hiding behind the desk… or on the ceiling! You’ve seen enough spy movies to know to look everywhere first! It has always failed you, but you keep doing it for the funsi—

There’s actually someone hanging on the ceiling. And it’s not a kid.

Is this Houda Lan?!
