/qst/ - Quests

Your name is David "Gunny" Rockefeller, no relation.
A veteran of the united states marine corps, you find yourself in a far-out situation after an all-too-close encounter of the third kind!

In the last thread, you learned the secrets of forging warp metal, spent some time training with your crew and getting even more intimate with one of them while on a stakeout.
Afterwards, you chased down an enemy vessel which turned out to be a civilian cargo hauler. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, you now find yourself questioning your life decisions just a bit.

>Last thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/4976072/
>>
>>5012919

After much discussion with your crew, you eventually settle on trying to make contact with Gron.
You aren't personally sure how you feel about that, but you can't deny that you're lacking manpower and have a common enemy.

The first step to that, you think, is talking to your hostages. Being slightly less aggressive would also probably help, so this time you head in without your power armor.
Using a sonicator, you sever the weld holding the mess hall door closed. It opens with a hiss, and you find the hostages... just kind of sitting there. Not even milling about.

"...You guys alright in here?"

"We haven't tried anything, we swear!" One of them yells.

Looks like most of them are still terrified of you, despite your lack of armor. They shrink back when you pull a pair of wire cutters out of your cargo pants.

"Calm down, i'm not going to hurt you guys." You assure them.

Using the wire cutters, you clip the zip-ties holding their arms together and let them go free. Some of them are a little softer than others, and have cuts on their wrists despite the zip-ties being fairly loose.
Almost universally, they sigh in relief as you remove their bindings and allow them to stretch their arms freely.
Around this time, the regular lights come back on as Clank finishes reinstalling the ship's antimatter bottle.

"What's going on? Why are you freeing us?" Ryzzla asks.

You sigh out in frustration.

"It's kinda complicated, kinda not. Basically, i think Gron and i actually share a common enemy, and maybe we'd be better off working with eachother rather than against eachother. Make sense?"

"...I guess? I'm not really sure what's going on here, but if it gets us out of this situation i'm happy to help, however i can."

"Do you think you could get me an audience with Gron? I need to speak with him."

"I guess? I mean, he's not a king or anything. As long as it's a friendly, peaceful visit then there should be no issues just going to see him."

She really emphasized the friendly and peaceful part.

"I don't plan on causing a fuss in the middle of someone else's home."

"...Are you sure about that?" She questions.

"Yes. I was planning on it, but not anymore."

"Well, at least you're honest." She... grins? That's weird. How can she grin with mandibles for a face? ...Did the translator did that? Huh.

"He's a snake, is what he is." The caithan spits. "I bet he's just trying to get your trust so he can sneak his way onto one of the stations."

Casually, you walk over to where the caithan is sitting, still bound by both his arms and legs.
You crouch down to look him in his hate-filled eyes, and speak.

"Boy, if i wanted to sneak in, i wouldn't need any of you to do it. I already have your ship."

"You're an idiot." He scoffs. "Do you think an IFF is all you need to land?"

"Of course not. But your friend here is more than willing to co-operate. And even if she wasn't, i would get the information i needed. I promise you that."

I just don't want this fleas ridden cat near our cat at all, bet the faggot thinks he can fight David without the powerarmor
>>
Wanted to go and post this in the last thread, but you made a new one, so I figured you'd be more likely to see it here.

>>5014534
I currently play in quests that take longer than a day to update. One of them has taken more than a week for one. I am actual living proof that, if your quest has garnered enough interest, then there will be someone that will wait patiently to see either an update or a continuation of an old quest no matter how long it takes.

Now, whether it's due to the sunk cost fallacy or autism is another question entirely...
>>
Oh, almost forgot, here's a link to the discord for anyone who wants to post lewds or whatever.
Only two rules. No gay shit, and keep quest discussion in the thread.

>>5014552
We need a proper Archive of the threads, because not all of them have been linked to each other.
>>5014589
Never use or make Discords, you were told this already.
>>
>>5014589
You need to delete that discord man. its a bane for quests. you dont need it, why have it? It undermines the animosity of this whole site, (IDs excluded), and is actively monitored by the feds.
It also will split the playerbase.

>Take off the male Caithan's bindings and tell him to take another crack at you, bare handed.
>Put him in his place, but try not to hurt him.
He'll probably shut the fuck up if he gets served by a naked ape.
I know I would.

OP, there are have been quest updating once every two or three days running for years. I think. Good quest keeps people at it.
>>
>>5014699
I agree!
>show him who is boss, barehanded and un-powerarmor-ed

We're already out of our armor, are we not?

>>5014725
I remember for the last half/quarter of Shinigami Savant that King was doing one update/day and still managed pretty good activity. There were other quests I can't remember the name of off the top of my head that also only had one update or sporadic updates that managed to hang on for a while.

It's definitely doable.
>>
>>5014534

QM, do what's best to keep you and your family ok. You don't need to worry about people leaving. We are a bunch of autists. We aren't leaving.
Do what works for you. A healthy QM makes a healthy quest. A healthy quest keeps living.
I'm here for the long haul.
>>
QM, just look at how bumped we've kept the quest through autism and inane discussion. One update every three days is nothing. And you can call people slurs in between. Win-win
>>
Most of the quests I read are weekly or even more sporadic.
>>
>>5014552
Hey QM just wanted to say that I rarely vote on this quest. I enjoy reading it too much that voting usually takes the enjoyment out of it - I'm a special type of moron that way.

But despite that you've always kept me glued to my seat and the few times I've had to travel to places where 4chan is blocked, opening you quest again has always been a pleasure.

Don't worry too much about cutting down updates, quests have survived slower updates, a good example would be the "Claymore: Second Swords Quest" with updates slower & shorter than you. Its on thread 63 now and its been going on since mid 2018.

Every few threads someone always bitches and moans about it but people stick to it since the writing and characters are compelling. Same goes for your quest right here, people will stick to it.
>>
>>5014552
Oi, is cool if you cut back. Consistency is more important to a quest than how often it updates.

You're writing a long story, its a marathon not a sprint. You go too fast too early for too long, you overexert and then shit yourself and pass out.

Like don't be afraid to just shitpost and theorycraft/plancraft alongside players for shits n gigs.
>>
Thanks for the encouragement, lads.
I'll be sticking around for as long as i can help it, so look forward to more updates.
>>
>>5014534
if this quest kept going with the same enthusiasm from the past threads to us autists by the amount of posts it has even if you never comeback and update this again this quest was and still is a blast

You think this website isn't? Half the people in this thread are feds.
>>
>>5015405
Well since I know I'm not a fed that must mean you are. Tell your boss I can stir up shit on the internet really well.
>>
>>5015405
eh, to identify a fed you have to notice the posts that say "let's commit a crime! It's super easy!"
That made me remember a story with a /k/omando that was pleasuring his prostate with a rifle barrel (only the barrel) and the iron sight got stuck so he couldn't get it out because it scraped on his insides.
On the ER they had to saw the barrel and out of nowhere the ATF showed up and killed everyone

Generally, with feds it goes something like
>"Let's commit a felony!"
>"What felonies have you committed recently fellow anons?"
>"Let's have a physical meet-up of people on this board."
Couple that with just not getting memes and in-jokes a lot of the time, and you can tell pretty quickly who's glowing.
Trying to bait people into joining explicit extremist forums and chatrooms is also a big red flag as well.
I'm not talking about /pol/ or anything of that nature, more like a Discord server that's very clearly geared towards discussing illegal activities.
>>
>>5015626
Trying to get people into a discord... oh god, don't tell me QM is... glowing!?

"Bastard!"

The caithan strains hard against his bindings, but they only dig deeper into his wrists, causing them to bleed.

"You want to a piece of me?" You ask, grinning from ear to ear. "Go ahead. We'll get it all out of your system right here and now."

Walking across the room, you turn to face him and give Clank the order to cut his ties.

"You're not the only hot-headed idiot i've met out here." You tell him as Clank enters and begins cutting him free. "But unlike some, maybe you'll get the message after a good whoopin'."

The Caithan distances himself from clank as soon as he's free. He rubs his injured wrists, and seems to actually calm down now that his arms aren't bound.
He eyes you up and down cautiously, clearly planning his initial attack. But he's not even remotely sly about it. You can see where his eyes are fixated. He wants to go for your neck.

You lean your head back and tilt it to the right, exposing your neck for him.
Tapping your jugular with your right pointer finger, you grin at him.

"If you want it that bad, come and get it."

At first he seems shocked that you knew what he was thinking, but then it just seems to piss him off.
He snarls, then takes off running straight at you.

However, there's no indication that he's planning to stop, or even slow down.
You're interested in where he's going with this, so you just let it happen.

To your surprise, the Caithan drops down and actually slides between your feet. You hear him pop back up to a standing position behind you, but before he has a chance to do anything, you strike.
It's nothing special. You simply ram your elbow into him without even turning around. It digs deeply into his side, and you hear one or two of his ribs break as a result.
Naturally, he's knocked to the ground and tries to make distance by rolling away. He clutches at his side, struggling to hold down a scream as he forces himself back to his feet.

Slowly, you turn to face him at his new position and stare him down as your eyes meet.

"Anything else?" You ask.

His claws visibly extend in response. A Caithan's nails aren't much different from a human's, but they end in a sharp point. Normally it wouldn't matter since they aren't particularly long, but it looks like they have more they can push out from under the nail-bed.
He charges at you once again, and this time it looks like he's just going to try and stab you.

You dodge his first thrust by turning your body to the side, and his left-handed thrust you grab with your own right hand, wrenching his arm and forcing his own sharpened nails into his side. The same side you just broke two ribs on.
His nails dig in fairly deep, and fresh blood runs along his side. But you know that won't put him down, so you plant a left hood straight into his nose, which breaks with a satisfying crunch.

"Gaaaah! Fuuuuuck!" He cries, falling to the ground again. This time he just rolls around, clearly in a lot of pain.

"Feels good, don't it?"
>>
>>5015714
Nice, if we didn't have Cylia in our crew i would want to cut the tip of his ears or tail so that he always remember that he is only alive out because David let him

Also, now we have another chance to meet the medic and recruit her, since she also doesn't shows on radars she might feel or know something from the wraith corpse

>>5014608
you can archive them yourself to sup/tg/
>>
>>5015736
Can we just declaw him right now. I'm sure theres some humiliation to it related to their species like how you can declaw a cat. Celia cant bit h about it since his nails will probably grow back. Probably.

She also can't talk, though. At least not in a way we can currently understand.

His punishment must be more severe!

>>
>>5015747
Not too severe. Maybe we could have SHODAN hack his translator and download a shit ton of embarrassing things from his memories, then send them to all the PDA's of the civilians on this ship. Nothing more crippling that having you associates know your most embarrassing secrets.
>>
>>5015751
KEK let's do it
>>
>>5015901
Wait I just thought up of something worse.
We could ask SHODAN to crop a maid image, and put the an image of the guy in it. Add in some other bullshit then post that on whatever his space social media account is.

proud experienced predator probably in the top 10%, and he unfortunately defaulted to standard behavior with the unknown species, which is well, perhaps not the smartest option, but predictable reaction. I am gonna laugh my ass off if, by some weird contrivance this is Cylia's brother and we just put him in the ICU.

>Fuckers wasting our tax dollars instead of arresting corrupt public servants.
Anon. They're the corrupt civil servants.
Here's generally how the federal authorities handle their boys fucking up.
>If it can be swept under the rug, it will be.
>If it can't be silenced, it's obfuscated in the media.
>If attention can't be diverted from it, they'll try to spin it.
>If they can't fix their optics, they'll try to placate the masses.
Usually the heat dies down somewhere around the last two phases.
Then the general public forgets about the controversy and moves on to whatever.
The only people who seem to keep track of stuff after the fact are schizos, autists, and former feds.
Even then, those few exceptions are prone to forgetting things and moving on all the same.
It's human nature to do so when you're not directly and immediately affected, and they count on it.
>>
>>5016496
>The only people who seem to keep track of stuff after the fact are schizos, autists, and former feds.
Good news is autism is on the rise so maybe eventually we'll have a bunch of screeching retards who won't let it go and the world will get better for it. Based aspies.
>>

Would you listen to somebody talk about conspiracy theories if you knew they were on the spectrum?

Cylia has been shown to be better at dealing with space people, predators especially, than us. While they might be solitary when it comes to ventures like bounty hunting or forming crews, a familiar face/race can do a lot to calm people down. We have no idea if the concept of a race traitor is even a thing given the diversity of the ayys. Why are you assuming that she would do worse than us constantly pissing him off, not getting their culture/predator culture in general, and just using violence like this is a war or some shit?

We saw with Kelzek that aliens, predator ayys especially, have very different ideas than humans do and Cylia is much more knowledgeable about those norms than we are.

Killing or just continuing to beat someone due to shit like that isn't even a psycho marine thing, it is just dumb.

Or we could just keep smacking him around for no real reason other than it makes us feel good about how awesome our character is guess. Real big dick move since he has no chance of actually harming us, Clank, or even Cylia.

I would also like to point out that to David, death is preferable to slavery. Asta has literally shown that this is his same position. When he thought we were just gonna take them and sell them to slavery after the interdiction, the default for the galactic culture vs. killing, he tried his damnedest to fight back despite us wearing a tonne of power armor. And he kept fighting even though I am sure he realized how unlikely it was for him to win. Part of that is probably stupid pride but I respect that he would rather die trying to fight rather than given in like a bitch.
>>
>>5015714

"Asta, would you please give it up? You clearly cannot beat him."

"Damn it." the Caithan says through gritted teeth. "I thought maybe without the armor..."

About this time, the door to the mess hall opens, to your surprise. You weren't expecting anyone...
And the person who shows up, it turns out, is Illia. She slowly looks around the room for a moment, then settles on Asta, who's still bleeding from his side.
She slowly and gracefully walks over to him, then crouches down and opens up the satchel she'd been carrying over her shoulder.

"Ah... thank you." Asta tells her.

She starts by removing his shirt to get at the wound in his side, then prepares a dropper full of liquid. After patting the area dry with a towel, she places four drops into each of the wounds around his ribs.
They seal over completely and stop bleeding within moments, almost as if she covered them with superglue.

Next, she runs her fingers over his ribs and no doubt discovers that two of them are broken.
Taking out a hypo-stim, she loads it with a canister of something clear like water and injects him in four places.

The relief is visible in his face as the medicine blocks out whatever pain he was feeling. His muscles relax, and he sighs out in relief.
She seems to be waiting for it to kick in fully, and in the meantime she simply pats the Caithan's head to comfort him.

After about a minute, she takes an actual needle out of her bag. It's the first time you've seen a needle used rather than a hypo-stim.
It appears to be full of a thick, pasty-white fluid. She inserts the needle right around where the break is and carefully positions it before injecting the material inside.

Next, she applies the hypo-stim full of anesthetic to his nose and the surrounding area. You think you know where this is going, and so does he, because he cringes as she grabs his nose, despite being unable to feel it.
With a loud crunch, she snaps his nose back into roughly the correct position.

After that's done, she inserts strips of something into his nasal passage. You aren't sure what's she's doing at first, but after she finishes, you hear even more cracking sounds, and Asta's nose returns completely to it's original shape.
You figured she'd be done after that, but no. After she fixed his nose, she started running the tips of her fingers across his wrists as well. They aren't bleeding much, but they are technically wounded, and probably hurts a bit.
She digs a small jar of ointment out of her bag and dips her finger into it, then slowly runs her finger across the wound until it's completely covered up. Then, she places what you recognize as strips of artificial skin over the wounds.
A quick gauze bandage later, and he's practically good as new. But then, she immediately begins attending to the other crewmembers as well.

While Illia is tending to everyone, you speak with Asta again.

"You done?" You ask.

"...Yeah, i'm done."

"I'm not going to sell you into slavery, you know."

"...I don't know that."

"Well, it's true. You'll just have to believe me."

"You're freakishly strong, you know that?"

"I know."

"I could barely follow your hands as they moved."

"...But you could follow them, yes? You might have some room for improvement, kid."

"I'm not a kid. I'm 16 already."

You just chuckle at that and leave him to rest. Kid's not actually that bad, he's just slower and weaker than Cylia. Could be his age, or maybe living in earth's gravity is already showing it's effects on her.
Either way, you move on to speaking with Ryzzla.

"Hey. I assume you're the actual captain on this ship, Ryzzla?"

"Not really. I'm the pilot, but we don't really have a "captain" per se..."

"Well, congrats. You're the captain now, under wartime doctrine. Now, i'm going to give you and your officers free roam of the ship, so you can bring food, water and whatever else to the crew. But i don't want to see anyone brandishing a weapon, understand?"

"I can only think of one idiot who might try that, but..."

Ryzzla looks over to Asta for a moment.

"He seems to have given up on that." She sighs.

"Yeah, people with two brain cells to rub together tend not to attack the same guy who just repeatedly kicked their ass without getting stronger first. But, i figure by then there won't be any problems."

"I hope you're right."

"...Say, i have a few more questions, if you don't mind."

Ryzzla sighs again.

"Very well..."

"I know, i know. It's about Illia, though. Why didn't anyone mention her? It was quite a surprise when i found her, since the ship's internal sensors didn't pick up any life signs in there."

"Ah. I assumed you knew. She's completely harmless, so..."

"Why didn't she show up on sensors, though?"

"Mmm. We've wondered about that, ourselves. Asta has a theory, though. Apparently those with a weak "presence" can actually hide themselves like that, whatever that means."

"What, you mean like erasing your presence when stalking prey?"

"I suppose, but i don't think she's doing it intentionally. Still, it's not like i understand it myself. You apex predators all go on about some mystical foolishness or another, but it's never made sense to me."

"Aren't you a predator yourself?" You wonder.

"Sure... but only just. I'm not what most would consider "Apex". That would be someone like Asta, a Caithan. Or you... whatever you are. Whatever world you're from, to build a body like that, i'm sure it must have been hell."

"I see. Thank you for your insight, but back to Illia... do you know why she doesn't speak? Clearly she can understand me."

"Well, none of us know what species she is. However, we believe that they had no form of communication whatsoever. It's only due to a crude translator implant that she can understand us at all, but that only goes one way."
>>
>>5017606
Wasn't there other advanced translator implants on the ship?

We can tell her about the communicator implant, since we can speak to her.
And just go "Go to this side of the room that has nothing and put your hand up if you wish to do this, ignore me if you do not wish to."
Maybe have one of the crewmen she trusts more do it? Like the captain. She saw us bring in a dead body, capture her crew, and beat the snot out of the caithan.
>>
>>5017911
Anon, she was using a datapad to communicate with us. There is no need to do charades.
>>
>>5017606

"Wait, what do you mean? How does that even work?"

Ryzzla shrugs.

"I'm no expert. All i know is, she understands what we're saying somehow, but she doesn't know how to say anything back."

"...That's not true at all, though. She was able to show me things using a monitor. She's able to use computers, so how can she not communicate?"

"About that... what exactly did she show you?"

"She showed me her identification, and an image of her pet."

"Pet? You mean that ugly little creature? No, that's just something we were planning on slaughtering for meat."

"Really? She seemed so sad when it died, though. It uh... it got caught in the vacuum."

"I see, that's a shame. Those things rot really quickly, if you don't cook them. But yes, that girl is... well, she's very empathetic, to put it lightly. I think that's why she became a healer."

Empathetic, huh? Maybe she's literally an empath. Psychic bullshit wouldn't be the weirdest thing you've seen out in space so far.

"Anyways, you said she showed you images, yes? Not a single string of text, was there?" Ryzzla asks.

"Now that you mention it..."

"Plenty of people have tried to teach her, and she was very patient with them... but the girl, she just doesn't understand speech. Or rather, i don't think she's capable of understanding it."

"That seems weird, considering how smart she is. I dunno."

"If her species never evolved to use it... maybe she's just missing the part of her brain that allows for understanding it."

"But then, how does her implant work? Isn't it connected directly to the speech center of your brain?" You wonder.

"Who knows? She already had it when we found her."

"Hmm." SHODAN chimes in. "Crude translator installed on a species nobody's ever seen before? Does that sound familiar at all, David?"

"Yeah, you're right." You whisper. "No sense worrying about it, i guess."

"But, it's enough for her to get by either way." Ryzzla continues.

"Ah, just out of curiosity..." You ask. "How long ago did you guys pick her up?"

"Oh, it was none of us."

"But you just said-"

"It was Dark Star, sure. But that was well before our time. Before there was even a Dark Star, actually. The original pirate lord was the one who found her, probably eighty or a hundred years ago. She was already a skilled healer at that time, so... he made use of her."

"And she's just been around ever since?"

"So the story goes. Everyone's been healed by her at least once or twice around here. Some more than others..." Ryzzla says, glancing over at Asta.

"How has she not died yet? Or been captured? Sold off?"

"Yes, it's true that those who leave the colony tend to die early, or go missing. Thanks for the reminder, on multiple levels. But to answer your question, normally she simply wouldn't leave the colony. However, she insisted on going this time."

"Why's that?"

"She's looking for something, and she can't find a way to tell us what it is. That's all i know."

You're curious as to what exactly it is Illia wants, but with her trouble communicating, it might just be a waste of time.
Simple or common things might be easy to get across, but if it's something extremely specific or abstract, well...

In any case, you've done what you came here for. Their ship should be operational again, and SHODAN is already preparing to make a... "tandem" jump back to the station.
After all, they could try to screw you, but that'll be hard if you're still docked to them.

That leaves you with a bit of time to burn as you get back to your ship.
Princess is there to greet you as soon as the airlock opens, chittering happily as she does.
She latches onto your leg and climbs as if you were a tree, wrapping herself around your shoulders and licking your face like a puppy.

"Did you miss me, girl?" You chuckle. Princess barks roughly in response.

After making your way to your own tiny mess hall, you sit down at the table and just rest for a moment.
There hasn't been much action, but a lot as still happened. It's given you a lot to think about... well, a lot more than you already had anyways.
Sighing, you lean your head onto one hand and just close your eyes for a minute. You can feel princess making her way off your shoulders and onto the table, where she sits down.

"You look tired." Cylia says, entering the room.

"Mmm. Yeah, a little bit." You punctuate your sentence with a small yawn.

"Are you alright?" She asks.

"...Yeah. There's just a lot going on. It is what it is, you know?"

You cross your arms on the table, then lay your head down on them.

"I kind of imagined that everything would be great out in space, you know? But it looks like there's just conflict everywhere. Doesn't matter how far you go."

"What about the core worlds? It's supposed to be peaceful there, isn't it?" She asks.

"Hah. The only difference between here and there is the size and reach of the enemy. Instead of pirates or corporations, it's the feds. It's only peaceful because they crush anyone who gets in their way."

"...You act like you've been there already." She notes.

"I have, in a way. Besides the tech, it isn't so different out here than it is on earth. More like the wild west, sure, but socially... it's all the same bullshit. I'm just sick of it."

"Do you want to become a hermit, or something? People do that, sometimes. Run off into the unknown and find themselves a planet with no intelligent life to rule over..."

"That might be nice, honestly. But no, i think i'm just sick of being so low on the totem pole. Everyone yearns for freedom, don't they? But normally it's so far out of reach. Out here though? Maybe..."

"Maybe?"

"Their designs are primitive, yes. Barbaric, even. But they do have a certain…" Ebony Talon considers his choice of word carefully, testing its weight. “…’appreciation’ for the function of a predator. No vainglorious glamour or concern for aesthetics. Purely about the kill.”

The Asandi Pilot considered the F-119 ‘Wingshark’ to be one of the few notable achievements of human civilisation. Perhaps the only one, really. The humans were smelly, crude and inflated in their ideas about their own abilities. Every year Ebony Talon was putting another hotshot pilot in his place, demonstrating to these so called ‘aces’ that he was as high above them as this Asandi orbital habitat was above the gas planet below. There were always more challengers, the human species seemed geared to producing them. Such delusions were so typical of the lesser lived races. The lack of shielding on their fight craft was a testament to this, sacrificing protection for speed and power. Though admittedly the absence of this advanced tech on the Wingshark only endeared the design further to the Asandi Pilot. Having shields on your craft implied the you were admitting the possibility that you might be hit.

Ebony Talon loved the Wingshark design. It could not hold a feather to the Asandi craft, even the less optimal classes freely shared with the Federation. Sleek in form by human standards, but in terms of manoeuvrability, protection or any other number of factors the Wingshark was outclassed in everything except perhaps thrust and firepower. By comparison, it was a blunt instrument of death. A spiked club to the silver dagger of his own species’ crafts. But at least it did not pretend to be anything but.

It was not the best fighter craft in the galaxy, not by most measurements. But it was nothing but a fighter craft, every plate and bolt shaved down to maximise its killing potential. It was not designed to conduct long-range patrols, or accommodate passengers, nor spare room for emergency supply runs. No allowance was made for modifications or alterations beyond that specific to the theatre of war. Even fuel was limited, short forays and pilots keeping an eye on the gauge every minute they were flying. Every aspect, every inch of the Wingshark was honed to a fine edge so that it may excel in one thing and one thing alone. War. To run down prey and pluck them from the sky like the talons of the Void mother herself."

"Ah, it's nothing. I have an idea. Maybe a dumb one, maybe not. Let me think on it first."

"It must be really, really dumb if even you aren't sure about it."

"Maybe." You admit. "But it might be worth a shot, one day. There's just too much on my plate right now."

You eventually get around to cooking dinner for the crew, then hop into bed for the night.
Just as you're about to fall asleep, you hear your door, which should have been locked, slide open.

Immediately, you're on your feet. You pull your 1911 out from under your pillow and aim at the shadowy figure in the doorway, but you can't see them.
So you flick on the tactical light attached to your pistol, revealing the culprit as Kyla.
You quickly lower your weapon.

"What the hell, did you hack my door open?" You ask.

"Yep! Gildur brought me some food, and i heard you went to bed early, so i thought i'd join you."

"I'm not really in the mood right now, if that's what you want. I've got a lot on my mind, and i just want to rest. Sorry."

"No, i know... i just thought it would be nice if we could sleep together. Everything is in pretty good condition right now, so it wouldn't hurt me to turn in early either."

"...Alright. I guess that's fine."

You flick the safety back on and place your gun back underneath your pillow, then lay down with your hand resting on it.

"Do you always sleep with that under there...?" She asks, climbing into bed with you.

"For the past twenty years."

Kyla pauses for a moment before asking her question.

"Have you ever needed it?"

"...A few times."

Kyla doesn't say anything. But you feel her wiggle her way over to you. She cuddles up against your back and lays there quietly.
That night, you sleep a bit more peacefully than usual.

The next morning, you find that SHODAN has completed her preparations and has been waiting on you to wake up so that she can initiate the jump.

"I'm ready when you are, Captain."

"Alright. Let's go."

SHODAN fires up the black box reactor as usual, but this time you hear a strange resonance as the other ship ramps up as well.
You feel the ship shudder as you enter FTL, and then shudder again not long after as you exit again. You really weren't far.

"Patching comms through now, Captain.

[This is Ryzzla of the Bizna...]

You hear an unfamiliar chuckling on the other end.

[Yes, it's very funny, Zeff. Can you just open the shutters for me?]

[Sure thing, Ryzz. You're back early though, aren't you?]

[Yeah, we uh... picked someone up on our way there. I'll explain later.]

[What? You guys alright?]

[We're fine, Zeff. "Remember the winds of Castella."]

[...Alright. But i'm sending a security team down there, alright?]

[Alright. I'll let them know.]

Communications cut, and you see that the Bizna is receiving docking co-ordinates from one of the stations. The same one it left from, actually.
Shortly afterwards, you receive a call from Ryzzla on your holopad.

[It's fine.] You tell her. [I'll be coming out in my armor anyways, so it's understandable.]

[...Is that really necessary?]

[Yes, it absolutely is. Don't worry though, i'll be coming out alone.]

"What, are you kidding?! I've always wanted to check out one of these pirate bases!" Kyla complains.

"And this is basically my mess anyways." Cylia adds. "I should be out there with you."

The girls turn to Sanig, who's sitting in his chair, mostly ignoring you.

"What?" He barks. "What the hell are you lookin' at me for? I got nothing to do with this. If it was me i'd have blown the place to kingdom come and been done with it."

"Alright, so i guess Sanig isn't coming..." Cylia says, rolling her eyes. "What about your sparring partner?"

Clank just stands there while everyone looks at him. He just waves at you all, before realizing they expect a response.

"I believe that regardless of whether we stay or go, we will be in danger. Perhaps it is best if i guard the ship, in the case that we must run."

"Yeah, someone needs to stay behind. I don't trust anyone, but especially not these guys." You agree.

So, Kyla and Cylia are coming with you, while Sanig, Clank and Gildur are staying behind.
You hop into your power armor, and with the girls flanking your sides the cargo ramp opens up, allowing you to step down onto the docking bay floor.
Four men are waiting for you, with three of them holding weapons that very clearly are not phasers.

"SHODAN, you got any idea what those are?"

"They appear to be plasma casters, Captain. A highly illegal weapon that generates a ball of plasma around a highly-magnetic pellet, which is then fired out to strike a target, not unlike your own bullets.
However, the damage isn't from the pellet striking you. Rather, upon contact, the pellet collapses it's magnetic field in such a way that the plasma becomes compressed to an extremely small point, burning through the target."

"...So it's like a plasma bullet?"

"Yes. Except, the plasma explodes inside of your body after the magnetic field dissipates. It's quite gruesome.

"Can my armor take it?"

Probably. I have no data on the material your armor is made from, but let's call it an educated guess.

"You sure have started to pick up some odd habits, you know that?"

"There is only one person to blame for that, Captain."

You take your time walking down the ramp, making sure your full weight thuds heavily against the metal with each step. Your mace is already resting on your shoulder, so you look quite intimidating.
The three armed men are trying to act confident, but they do look a bit like they're about to piss themselves.
You stop some distance from them, then speak.

"I'd like to invoke Parley."

"P-Parley?" One of them asks.

"Wait, that old ass rite? How does he even..." Another one wonders.

"Mommy!" You hear someone shout.

Two kids of the same race as Ryzzla run into the docking bay, straight towards their mother.
Ryzzla, who had exited via her own ship's ramp, accepts the kid's charge with open arms.

"Kyrr'tk, Kynn'ka, what are you two doing down here? You know you're not supposed to enter the landing bay!"

"Zeff said you were home early! Did you get us anything from the station?"

Ryzzla chuckles.

"We'll talk about that later, alright? Head back to the living quarters, mommy will be there soon enough."

"Awwww!" Both children cry in unison.

"Come now, go on." She chides them.

The children both run off and exit through the same door they came in from, laughing and chasing eachother the whole way.
Well, that's a bit cute you suppose. Even if they look like praying mantises.

Having waited patiently for that exchange to end, you raise the mace from your shoulder and drop it down, let it's head bang hard against the metal floor.

"Do you accept?" You ask.

One of the armed men swallows in anticipation. His grip on the plasma caster tightens.

"We accept." The unarmed man says. "Please follow us closely. We'll guide you to the meeting room."

That easy, huh? After a short pause, you heft your mace back up and magnetically attach it to your back with a loud clank.
One of the guards stares down at the dent and cuts left in the floor where you'd slammed it down a moment ago. He seems terrified.

You gesture for the girls to follow you and make your way into the station proper. Kyla is oohing and aahing at everything she sees, although it all looks pretty shoddy to you.
There's not all that much rust. It's all been painted at least, but it looks like a hundred dollar apartment in downtown new york. There are hanging wires that have been spliced together, random pipes running down hallways, blocked off doors...

It's a mess. A lived-in mess, but a mess nonetheless. Must be a nightmare to keep running.

"Here we are. Please wait while i contact the administrator." The unarmed man tells you.

"Thank you, Zeff." Ryzzla responds to him. Ah, so he's Zeff, then.

The room you've been shown to... looks kind of like a living room, honestly. It occurs to you that you've never actually seen what a normal living space looks like, because you've lived on your ship this whole time.
There are three couches available for sitting, and one armchair. They're all made out of plain cloth, but they're clearly of different designs and are well worn, despite the fact they they probably don't get used much.
The girls take their seats on the shabby couches, and unfortunately there's a glass table in front of them that you don't want to break, so you're forced to stand while you wait.

After a minute or two, a shabby-looking robot rolls into the room holding a platter with several glasses of water on it. It places three of them in front of Kyla, Cylia and Ryzzla, then offers a glass to each of the remaining security guards.

You just stare down at the poor, dumb little robot.
Your suit is sealed against the vacuum of space. There's no way you could drink it even if you wanted to, which you don't.

Likewise, Cylia doesn't trust her drink and politely dumps it into the potted plant next to her.
Kyla however, gulps hers down before you can even say anything about it.

"...What if there's poison in that?" You ask.

"Poisons aren't very effective on Jek'na, so i'd probably be fine!"

"What if it's really strong poison?"

"Then uh... i dunno?"

"Maybe don't eat and drink things the enemy gives you?"

"I'm sure it's fine." She smiles. If only we could all be so carefree.

It's not long before a robed alien makes his entrance, along with an entourage of six more guards, these fellows being similarly armed but heavily armored as well.
One glance tells you all you need to know. These guys are projecting a lot more confidence than the ones who met you in the landing bay.

"Greetings," The robed one says, more to the whole room than just you. However, he then shambles his way over to you until you're face to face with eachother. "My name is Yorda, and i serve as the administrator here. Might i have your name, and the purpose of your visit?"

You're not sure whether you should respond with your proper name or not. Would you even consider this guy an actual official? Maybe.

What name will you give him?
>Gunny
>David Rockefeller

And what are you here for?

Sudenly Gunny has a flashback
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/4900701/#p4921005
Sadia
>killed gasbag family over them serving fish
>Sent David to what they thought was a suicide mision to get rid of him
>Their 12 or so men that died aren't comparable to gron at all even if death since gron could kill more ppl on his own, essentially a bad deal

>>5024466
Don't mention Sadia their spies could be listening, dont trust their fuards or silly robots

>>5024471
After re-reading some parts it seems more in character for David to join hands with Dark Star, maybe David can take over or atleast set up something that helps us with the rescue of Grandpa gasbag.
We could fake the assasination or kidnapping of gron with Dark stars help, to trick Sadia and their spies and by help I mean making their own ranks think gron is dead

With that we might be able to go one last time to Xebric get grandpa gasbag out, some resources, close kylas shop, take our ships out, clean them of bugs and spyware, and escape, maybe to Dark Star or to another place where we can finish projects with Sanig like the skin suits or the power armor etc

>Completed Power Armor (X00k)
>Completed Skinsuits (75k)
>Gatling Phaser (35k)
>Hardlight Shields (15k)
>Hardlight Weapons (20k)

PD: Is guaranteed that Sadia has spies on this station because Gron used that space leap device to teleport directly here and has been healing on the medic bay,so it would be impossible for Sadia to know he is here without spies

I concur, it's better to be cautious and not need to be than to be reckless and regret it.

For all we know if Sadia knows we are in here they can just brush it off as scouting or at worst asylum.

>>5024789
Of us seeking asylum, sure. Giving them the finger, maybe.

Saying openly "form an alliance" could be gathered as intent of offensive action. (Which is exactly what we plan to do.)
That gives away the element of surprise. If they know we are coming, no matter how large we make this operation, it will be more costly because of it.

I want to maximize every single inch of tactical and stategical edge we can have over Sadia. Because we need it.
>>
>>5024722
No, David was pretty obviously pretty fine with being the bad guy and working for the bad corporation up until he suddenly decided to grow a conscience (despite having already murdered an entire warehouse base full of low-level gangers) on this mission. He even explicitly stated when capturing Laggard that he knew which side of morality he was on in turning the chucklefuck in to the megacorp, but admonished Cylia for wanting to do something different.

There's the flimsy, in my opinion unjustified, pretense that David has done this total flip because he thinks this was a hidden suicide mission from Sadia...but ffs that logic that goes into that line of thinking is so tenuous it hurts. "Oh this mission that the corporate director said would be difficult is actually pretty difficult! Clearly he's trying to get us killed!"

That faggot Elynderr withheld information that would potentially get us killed or atleast someone in our crew

There is the chance that it was some kind of test to earn their trust as a high quality mercenary but honestly considering Sadia had personal grudges over stupid fucking fish, once they know we eat eggs we are definitely getting on their kill list also the first thing Cylia said was Sadia bad and everyone said the same shit.

TLDR: David mad at sadia cuz retards killed a close friend of his first crew mate for eating fish not because he is good or someshit like that

>Sadia had personal grudges over stupid fucking fish,
Didn't gramps not afford his loans, partially because they were giving charity to Cylia and partially because they served meat and that's unpopular among non-predators? For that matter, I don't recall Sadia really having an issue with them for serving meat, though maybe some of the goons did...but again, that's well established as something non-predators commonly do.

>That faggot Elynderr withheld information that would potentially get us killed or atleast someone in our crew

Look, if you're the sort of bounty hunter/agent/operative that needs to have everything drip-fed to you then you're not worth being in the top tier. If they needed braindead tough guys they could just send killbots in for the job.

Literally, yes it was sadia not the goons and yes just for eating fish and no they normally just scam ppl not kill them even if they are in fake debt

>Look, if you're the sort of bounty hunter/agent/operative that needs to have everything drip-fed to you then you're not worth being in the top tier. If they needed braindead tough guys they could just send killbots in for the job.

In other circumstances i would agree but this wasn't a normal job, it was an interchange to erase grudges also if they could just send killbots they would have already done it, but it probably would be too expensive hense why it was a good chance to help each other, gunny puts the muscle and sadia saves money, plus grudges clensed, it made no sense to withhold information

>Literally where you asshat? He wants to fuck up Sadia for almost killing Cylia...in the fight that Cylia started in the first place? Are we reading the same quest?

Sadia started it not cylia, when they killed the gasbag family over some fish and laughing about it

>That's it. It's cemented in your head now, these fucking scum are lower than low.
Any shred of respect or care you might have had for them is gone out the window, just like that.
>>
>>5025147
I don't recall sadia having problems with what gasbag was dealing. They had a problem with him about unpaid debts. I am certain they wanted to make an example out of the gasbag couple, burning their place down, because they knew it was impossible for them to pay so showing everyone else what was next if they missed their dues was the most profitable option.
The thing I wrote, is it even english? I am ESL, words hard.

I wonder if David does have a personal grudge with Sadia or not. Sure, on the business side, sadia owes david, but has David ever said "oh this is personal"? I think not. The fact that he endangered Cylia to let her prove herself is big. It's not like he is angry because "they hurt Cylia >:( " when he was 100% able to prevent it. Plus, all this is player-driven action so lmao, us retroactively giving David a personality and moral compass is strange

>Is David's dealings with Sadia and Dark Star just business or is it personal?

>>
>>5025175
>Sadia started it not cylia, when they killed the gasbag family over some fish and laughing about it
that's still business. they didn't try to fuck us over and david 100% understood that the moment he was talking with the sadia rep of the station.
>>
>>5025175
>Literally, yes it was sadia not the goons and yes just for eating fish and no they normally just scam ppl not kill them even if they are in fake debt
But what you posted just contradicts that...

That's a narrow view, from the boss's perspective Gunny would either demonstrate some brains and succeed (which is what you want, rather than just a killbot like I said)...or he'd die, then you can send in the killbots later.

Or I guess he'd show himself to be even deadlier than a killbot.

Any of these solutions are ideal from the boss's perspective.

>Sadia started it not cylia, when they killed the gasbag family over some fish and laughing about it
Nah, Cylia definitely started it. Sure Sadia was being shitbags, but again not bigger shitbags than David himself is. I mean, like this anon here is suggesting: >>5025176 they were probably making an example out of the couple. That means that Sadia kills 1 (maybe 2) people to set their examples, we killed like 50 in ours!
>>
>>5025176
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/4900701/#p4921005

>"I didn't say that. But if i'm going to, i'll need a lot more men and a lot more resources. I can't do it right now."
At least at some point he considered fucking sadia up after the incident

>>5025191
Yeah that's why David wanted to call it even but atleast from my perspective Sadia didn't have the same intentions

I think Sadia always wanted David dead, they send him to that mission because if he goes and gets killed by dark star then David dies without them having to spend a penny, if somehow he managed to kill gron then knowing he is going back to station for the other ships and old gasbag making it easy for them to set an ambush

Did 4chan eat my post?

>Literally, yes it was sadia not the goons and yes just for eating fish and no they normally just scam ppl not kill them even if they are in fake debt
But the dialogue you're referencing demonstrates that it was the goons and their prejudices that caused them to burn the place, not Sadia's orders...

>In other circumstances i would agree but this wasn't a normal job...
From Elynderr's perspective there were 2 ways assigning David this mission with minimal intel could work out.
1) David's goes in, does it clean and smooth, demonstrating he has worth and utility beyond a simple merc or killbot, making it worth forgiving Cylia's transgressions.
2) David goes in, tries to take shit on without doing his homework like a mouthbreathing retard, and dies. Rendering the transgressions settled, effectively.
Oh I guess there's also 3) David goes in, is even deadlier/tougher than a killbot, and makes it back despite not gathering intel. It's cheaper to let someone like that go than anything else anyway, and you got your favor.
All 3 of those are totally reasonable and valid stances for homeboi to have.

>Sadia started it not cylia, when they killed the gasbag family over some fish and laughing about it
Nah, Cylia still started it. Sure she liked the gasbags but that doesn't mean she didn't start the shit that's gotten us in this mess. If she stood up for every single person Sadia oppressed unilaterally then maybe you'd have an argument, but this was clearly her feelings overwhleming common sense.

Setting that aside. Like the anon here >>5025176 points out, even if it was Sadia's orders to burn the place down rather than the goons going too far on their own initiative then that means the bodycount for them setting an example is at ~1.5 (dunno if gasbag #2 is dead yet or not). Meanwhile Cylia's cool with us and we murdered several dozen when we set an example.
>>
>>5025192
>But what you posted just contradicts that...
After interrogating the Sadia goons she says that they don't kill the ppl in debt they just destroy their house probably they give them a beating too, they killed them for eating fish not the debt itself
Or thats what i get from reading that part

Also the interrogation directly says they got killed for eating fish, so i dont think other speculations make sense
>>
>>5025197
>I think Sadia always wanted David dead, they send him to that mission because if he goes and gets killed by dark star then David dies without them having to spend a penny, if somehow he managed to kill gron then knowing he is going back to station for the other ships and old gasbag making it easy for them to set an ambush

i won't deny that you might be right, but the thing is that if you aren't and we backstab sadia, we're fucked in basically all the sectors where sadia has control or range to send a bounty. Yeah, i know we're supposed to "go to earth", but we have no fucking idea where it is, and the data that shodan managed to salvage is incomplete at best; we will eventually *need* to dock at a station to refuel, and the moment that happens we're turbo fucked.

Sure, however it still seems that it was the goons and their prejudices that prompted it rather than Sadia the corporation's orders.

2 posts above the one i linked says this
>"...See, i don't really believe that." You look down at the tip of your knife, which is now glowing red hot. "Because idiots like you, they get into trouble on their own. Somebody needs to give you orders... to keep you in line. Like Orpha here."
This makes me believe they got ordered to kill them by the higher ups unless it was Orphas initiative but i doubt that

>>5025208
For me it looks like Sadia is less trustworthy than dark star at the moment, taking their side would be easier but more risky if they do back stab us, while getting on dark star side temporarily would be less risky because they dont have any potential hostage at the moment and haven't done anything against us yet, since all our interactions with them was mercenary work or am i forgetting something?

I just want to rescue the cook because he helped cylia a lot and david declared him part of the crew but fck sadia they sound like space yews with their debt scams and usury i dont want to help them at all

But I gotta admit Going full juggernaut and destroying the whole base would be badass tho
>>
>>5025225
Hostage situations are really stupid because if you do something to the hostage you lose your bargaining chip and you've made the opposing party even angrier. So if you needed a hostage to get what you wanted in the first place you were already fucked.

People should just learn to ask nicely.
>>
>>5025201
4)David gets in the middle of the enemy base then destroys it from the inside out completely annihilating dark star proving he is both cunning and dangerous making Elynderr shit his pants when his spies send him some recordings

David can still go full rambo shit on their security take their families hostage take control of the ships with shidans help and fight it out while taking gron and yorda

Just saying this might be posible only because shodan is a grey unshackled AI, so hacking and taking control of this mess of a base should be very posible
>>
>>5025232
The only situation it could help is to prove your word has value, force ppl into a situation in which they have to trust you or face the consequences.
>>
>>5025225
Why do you find it unlikely when that's what everything points to? You really think Sadia higher ups give a shit about who sells fish and who doesn't when there's money to be made?
>>
>>5025249
Well if they only cared about profits they would have shared the info to male the odds of David success higher since that would bring the most profits. They clearly would profit a lot if they got Gron alive, but they didn't and the test think to see if David is bigshot doesn't make sense to me since it decreases potential profits

A=Gron captured alive=$$$$$$$
B=Gron dead = $$$
C=David dead = $

If they share info A is more likely, if they dont C is more likely fron their perspective, risking profits to test a mercenary that clearly is hard to control makes no sense to me
>>
>>5025258
>Well if they only cared about profits they would have shared the info to male the odds of David success higher since that would bring the most profits. They clearly would profit a lot if they got Gron alive, but they didn't and the test think to see if David is bigshot doesn't make sense to me since it decreases potential profits
that assumes that sadia has spies inside the station, which we don't know at all.
>>
>>5025258
You've swerved away from the subject of 'why would bigwigs care about a fish shop' towards 'why would bigwigs care about taking out a major competitor'. These questions aren't equivalent, that aside though they might be willing to chance A or B (David's death is irrelevant to their bottom line) to test David's worth because whether he succeeds or fails they've already got a sure method of making A or B happen...but that entails some degree of risk to a known asset. In that case you play your free card to see how well it does before you deal the established ones.
>>
>>5025262
How are they supposed to know gron is here without spies? Gron didn't arrive with a ship, and gron could have left in any ship since his arrival, since there is regular traffic coming and going from this base, if they only scouted the base they couldn't have known Gron is here atm

I overthink stuff so I could be wrong
>>
>>5025269
you can also intercept communications, torture people for information and good old fashion favor trading
>>
>>5025270
Why not good ol deductive reasoning? Gron bugged out, they knew Darkstar had a hideout around here, logically speaking Gron would have gone back to base. How'd they know Darkstar had a base here? Doesn't really matter.
>>
>>5025269
The same way Sanig (and us by extension) knows. He explained that the wormhole thing is a DANGEROUS device that is tethered to someplace. Deduction. Anyone with enough information can make the educated guess (sadia)

>large dark-energy surge from inside the station
>must've been Gron
>something must've happened for him to escape using his triumph card
>oh right we sent that psychotic kill dude towards his general direction
>Gron must be hurt and at the end of the tether
>>
>>5025268
Well the point is that with conventional means it would be very very expensive to achieve scenario A or B and it also translates to less profit, the point is David was doing this work for free to erase grudges which would be a net gain for Sadia anyway because 12 goons aren't worth shit compared to Grons life

Achieving A in exchange for the life of 12 goon is the best scenario for Sadia thats always considering Sadia has spies in the station tho

>>5025270
>>5025286
>>5025289

That would mean they still had previous knowledge of this base and didn't share the info, also if they don't have spies how are they supposed to confirm the kill or that gron is still on the station. If i were sadia and wanted to destroy the competition i would definitely try to set up spies in their ranks

INB4 QM is laughing his ass off at my nit job guess about sadia spies
>>
>>5025307
>That would mean they still had previous knowledge of this base and didn't share the info
....they told us the location of the base. they just didn't know how big it actually was, because surprise surprise its actually a collection of small stations inside the asteroids.
>also if they don't have spies how are they supposed to confirm the kill or that gron is still on the station.
just like how we have delivered ALL THE OTHER BOUNTIES? by delivering the body of gron or his head, or a decent chunk of his torso. come on anon.
>>
>>5025307
>That would mean they still had previous knowledge of this base and didn't share the info
They knew where it was. They told us. Maybe they know more or maybe they don't. Why assume?
>>
>>5025315
Idk man I'm just assuming they have spies thats it, its a possibility, the other side is to assume they didn't know any detail about the base and had no info on their enemies other than their general location which seems unlikely for me

In any case if the others don't want to conspire against sadia we still are in time to change course and fuck gron up, but considere that everyone has said they are evil corp, killed gasbag ppl cuz fish and debt have feelings even tho there is an strong rejection against murder and slavery is common sense, laggard apparently had legitimate reasons to go against them etc etc, i cant avoid thinking that helping Sadia will somehow bite us in the ass on the long run
>>
>>5025341
and dark stars are a literal space cartel that are trying to take control of the local drug trade that do the same shit that sadia does. we're choosing between bad and worse, and the only reason anons are picking the dark stars is because they haven't seen how horrible they are. hell they already forgot the rape implications the original DS boss had with the moth medic
>>
ah for fucks sake
Nobody actually knows wether or not that they have INTERDIMENSIONAL SCANNER to track gron nor about SPIES and shit we dont actually fucking know we just know that he know that gron is around here because someone told him? have his ways? fucking whatever
just shut up who's ACTUAL SHIT and JUST SHIT thats not it what it fucking matters ESPECIALLY >>5025343 I dont know how you got the fucking moth getting raped but I dont fucking care because that shit is in the past, there definately not what it used to be and they'll keep changing If they keep having families, they have something thats not bitches, not fucking money or fame and we can prove that SHORTLY by FINDING A RANDOM DARK STAR BASE AND KILL EVERYONE INSIDE THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN ESPECIALLY AND THREATEND THEM TO KILL MORE
What it does matter is who is gonna be less problematic fucking tell me or even backstab us in the first place
A shady megacorporation that controls pretty much the entire station, likes to steal shit like snooping around our smithing shit and not telling us everything before we get to this overcomplicated moment we got
OR a giant gang, cartel or whateverthefuck thats actually turned into a mish mash of unfortunate communities trying to live out there lives with women and children and elderly barely living here at all
maybe we could live in dark star due to how chaoticly mellow this place is who knows
>>
>>5025389
I have no idea what you're trying to say.
>>
>>5025403
TLDR:Corpos or Nomads, we can ruin both of them and one has more to lose than the other if they decide to fuck with us so pick which one already
>>
>>5025423
the more important question is what do david and the crew have to lose. betraying sadia doesn't really means much to sanig and david, but it means that kyla loses her home and cylia has to accept that grandpa gasbag might die
>>
>>5025483
No man, read carefully
Sadia has proven to not be trustworthy, even if we complete the mission there is a high chance they will back stab us, then we will have both dark star and Sadia on our tails, we can't fight Sadia right now, and we need somewhere to stay without worrying about random assasination attempts

Dark star is a local gang that David could probably directly destroy, and we got some hands we can play to actually cooperate with each other, they even respected parley apparently and have a lot to lose compared to sadia so working with them is a lot safer than with sadia.

The spy shit is just being paranoid just in case so later we can try to rescue the cook, retrieve the ships we confiscated and close kyla shop. If they do have spies the plan would be done before it even started, and our shit in Xebric will be fucked. Assuming there are spies is better in all scenarios.

We could even build a little independent base in this asteroids without having to join their gang or their operations if we succeedin the negotiations. We could even get gron to fake his death until he is fully healed affecting sadia intel and giving us time to get our shit out of xebric station, its win-win. And we could potentially help DS know if there are moles in their ranks, etc

TLDR: I would rather share a cave with a wolf than a bear untill i can fuck up the bear
David can see face to face with DS and break their nose, while Sadia in the best case scenario plays around with tests, withholding info because they too big and don't give a fuck if he dies
>>
>>5025483
Also from that perspective if Sadia mess with david at most they lose some profits in one of their many station and that's it but if dark star mess with David they could be destroyed.

DS has a lot more they can lose compared to Sadia

Hell Sanig and David could set up a lab away from other faggots interference to build gadgets with TOP SECRET technology if we set up base in here
>>
>>5025307
David also isn't doing this for free. If he gets Gron back alive he'll get a mint. Ifhe succeeds at all he'll still get paid well.
>>
>>5025389
>>5025423
Your entire assessment of 'one has more to lose than the other if they fuck with us so pick one to stick with' is flawed. Sure Darkstar has more to lose if we side with them and they backstab us...which is exactly why they'd make damn sure we died if they ever did.

There's also the matter of comparative size, which is why Darkstar has more to lose than Sadia in the first place. Setting aside backstabbing, we should just consider the repercussions of one faction or the other becoming hostile towards us.

>Darkstar becomes hostile
-Pirates and other criminal elements associated with Darkstar become hostile to us...oh wait, they already were
-Presumably these guys are fairly local, but also have more of a presence further out in the outer rim
>Sadia becomes hostile
-Anywhere Sadia has sway becomes inaccessible to us
-Labelled as criminals in the more advanced parts of the galaxy

Idk man, I'll take the pirate group being hostile any day. If you show pirates you're too tough of a mark they'll fuck off. If you show someone that has sway with the government you're too tough of a mark they just pull strings to get the galactic feds to send larger flotillas after you.
>>
>>5025561
There's no evidence that there's a high chance Sadia will backstab us. Up until one of our crew beat up several of their members we had an excellent business relationship with them.

Then even after one of our crew members murdered a few of Sadia's boys and injured more, our business relationship was enough that the big boss was called in and gave us this chance to smooth things over...while getting paid in the process.

I see fucking nothing here to indicate anything other than Sadia being businessmen interested in profits.
>>
>>5025561
>Sadia has proven to not be trustworthy,
How? So far things have been pretty fair and square with them.
>even if we complete the mission there is a high chance they will back stab us
Theres no evidence of that.
>Dark star is a local gang that David could probably directly destroy
Thats a lot of speculation based on basically nothing. Just like with sadia, we're seeing a very small part of the dark stars right now. I mean, the gang is several centuries old, they definitely ain't small.
>David can see face to face with DS and break their nose, while Sadia in the best case scenario plays around with tests, withholding info because they too big and don't give a fuck if he dies
That aint true at all. We dont even know who is the real leader of the dark stars.

>>
>>5024457

"My name is Gunny. I'm the captain of the Metal Gear, currently docked here on the station."

You offer him your armored hand, which he looks down at with some trepidation. Eventually he decides to clasp it, and you very gingerly shake his hand.

"I'm here for an audience with Gron. He should know who i am, and i'm sure he'll be interested in seeing me."

"I see." He says, turning away from you. "My apologies, but arbiter Kordunn is currently recovering in the infirmary. He's in no condition to receive guests."

"Regardless, i request to see him." You press.

Yorda pauses, then sighs in frustration. He turns to face you again, then asks a question.

"I can tell you aren't going to leave this alone. Why are you really here? What do you need from him?"

You hesitate on whether or not to tell him, but you decide it should be fine either way.

"We both have problems with Sadia, and i'd like to remedy that. However, i'm only one man with a small crew."

"So you intend to use our men to deal with your problems? Hmph. We are not your personal army, Captain."

You lean down into the old man's face in response.

"Don't put words in my mouth, old man. I don't appreciate that."

He coughs into his hand as a single drop of sweat rolls down the side of his head.

"So then, what would you expect out of us?" He asks.

"I didn't come here to talk with you, old man. Either take me to him or don't, but stop wasting my time."

"...Very well. However, i'm afraid your... equipment... won't be allowed on the medical platform. We can't have your presence disturbing the patients."

Honestly, realizing the state Gron is in I wanna take some piece of him like a finger or at least something to identify him and hand it to Sadia as proof. The terms of the deal were that if he was dead then the debt is forgiven, but if he is brought back alive then we also get a bonus. If we do this then not only are we in the clear with the company but Gron has the liberty of recuperating safely and the added advantage of him now being able to fuck over Sadia in the shadows.

I will agree that we are probably gonna have to do some creative thinking but I don't think going against Sadia is the best idea considering if we want to land on a station with their influence it's not going to go well and they are pretty powerful in the outer rims of the federation. I also don't think attacking the Dark Starbase will be good either since we are definitely outnumbered.

I don't think David would do that (probably). I think he still has some lines he won't cross but still, if we can get something to identify Gron as dead then we can hopefully pull this off. Also just realized, does Dark Star realize that Sadia knows the location of their base?

If a faggot like pic related can do that kind of modifications, a chondrite should be able to survive without a little piece of head
>>
>>5026134
That's part of what the negotiations could bring on the table.
Fake grons death only the top boss and gron know about it, if sadia knows about it before we report and dont ask for proof then we confirm they had spies, from DS perspective that could be used as an excuse to set up stronger defenses and to screen out potential moles

About the Sadia influence etc, we would only need to go to stations they don't control, i doubt they own all the stations in the outerside of the galaxy, while DS could be an useful potential intermediary since even if they are small they managed to fight for a piece of Sadias business

TLDR: I'm being an autist, overthinking it all, and building a secret lab in one of these asteroids while using DS black market connections to get provisions and resources sounds great

Nobody takes your weapon from you. Nobody.

"You want me out of my armor?" You growl.

Three of the security guards take an instinctual step back as they sense something shift in you.

"Go ahead. Take it from me."

The frame of your suit creaks and groans as you tighten your grip on your mace.
The security guards raise their weapons towards you in response, and your muscles swell as you prepare for a massacre.

"STOP THIS! AT! ONCE! ALL OF YOU!" The old man screams.

Most of the security guards lower their weapons immediately at his word.

"I will NOT have you spilling needless blood on this station! Not under my watch, do you understand?!" He continues, grabbing one of the guard's weapons himself and forcibly lowering it.

"And you!" He growls, stopping short of actually doing anything to you. "Are you planning on hurting anyone here? I don't care what your reasons are! All i want to hear is a yes or no!"

"No, i'm not planning on it." You respond, still wielding your massive mace.

"Then so be it. Just try to pad your footsteps, you damned brute. The injured need rest."

Hmph. This old man has an attitude all of a sudden? About time someone nutted up.

"No problem. I'm ready to go when you are."

Yorda grumbles under his breath as he turns to exit, clearly in a bad mood now but also seeming much more lively than when he first entered.
You gesture to the girls, who themselves had already stood up and prepared for a fight. They follow behind you as you follow Yorda.

Heading back down to the landing bay, you find Sanig playing cards with a security guard. He waves to you, causing the guard to turn his head. In that moment, Sanig swaps out a pair of cards and continues on like nothing happened.
Yorda leads you to a small ship covered by a tarp, which one of the guards pulls off for him. The tarp reveals... a sheet metal piece of shit.

"...What the hell is this?" You ask.

"It's a shuttlecraft." He answers.

"I can see that. Do you not have anything more... sturdy?"

"This is more than sufficient for travel between stations, i assure you. We should not need an entire ship just for that!"

"I mean you're not wrong, but... is that tape on the hull?"

"It is nanobond tape, yes. Micrometeorites are an issue when living in an asteroid belt, so small collisions are not uncommon."

"No, but why don't you just fix it?"

"We did." He assures you.

"That's not fixed, it's taped."

"Nanobonded. It's just as good as a metallic patch, i assure you. Would i be getting in the craft myself without a space suit if i didn't think it was safe?"

"I don't think the issue here is what you consider safe or not."

Yorda rolls his eyes.

"Good gods, i didn't expect you to be such a weenie." He says, stepping up into the craft. "Are you coming or aren't you?"

You refuse to be called a weenie by someone with an overgrown squid for a head.
Stepping up into the shuttlecraft, it creaks and groans under the weight of your suit, actually causing the landing gear to bottom out and making it lean to one side.

"Good lord, how much does that armor weigh?!" Yorda asks, bewildered.

"You don't want to know." You reply.

Cylia and Kyla step in behind you, and Yorda enters with a pair of guards after that. There isn't much room left inside, but Yorda squeezes his way over to the pilot's seat and starts flicking some switches.
Just before the door closes, you hear someone shout from outside, followed by the sound of Sanig cackling.

The shuttlecraft shudders as the engines power up, then struggles to lift off the ground even in the station's low gravity. It slowly makes it's way out of the bay, passing through the shield barrier keeping the atmosphere in.
The ride over is quiet but awkward, with everyone shoved shoulder to shoulder. Kyla however, manages to break that awkward silence.

"Hey mister, can i see your plasma caster?" She asks.

"What? No." The guard responds.

"Come on, i just want to look at it! That's coil looks like it's made out of electrum rather than pure silver, doesn't it?"

"...Yes. The melting point is higher, and it doesn't rust easily."

"Trying to avoid maintenance, huh?"

"Mhm. If something breaks, it may take weeks or months before we can get the parts we need to fix it."

Almost as if on cue, you hear a loud bang and feel a jolt as something slams into your suit. It takes you a moment to figure out what happened, but one of the guards quickly points it out.
There's a pinhole in the shuttle's hull, caused by a micrometeorite! A loud hiss fills the shuttle as it begins venting atmosphere. Shit, that's not good.

One of the guards calmly takes a ball-peen hammer out of the compartment underneath his bench seat and taps on the hole until any jagged edges are flattened, then rips off a strip of tape from a roll, placing it over the hole in the hull.
The hissing stops, and the tape... or "nanobond" seems to hold just fine. Well, for a hole of that size, even duct-tape would do it.

"Lucky us. Look at the pitting in this guy's armor!" One of them says. "If that hit us, we'd be screwed."

Sure enough, you can feel a small hole dug deep into your suit's titanium armor plating. It looks just like a miniature version of a crater on the moon.

"What the hell, you people live like this?" You ask.

"Impacts are actually pretty rare. It's been a few months since the last one, you know. I guess you're just lucky!" The guard chuckles.

The remainder of the flight is fairly uneventful. It takes about fifteen minutes to reach the medical station, and you land without issue. Apparently the engines on this shuttle need time to "warm up" as Yorda put it.

"Ambassador!" A grey-robed alien greets. "To what do i owe the pleasure?"

"We have a guest, Telwyn. He's here for arbiter Kordunn."

"A-Ah, i see... I'm sorry, but he's in no condition to receive visitors at the moment!" Telwyn responds.

"Regardless, i'm going to see him." You tell him.

For the first time, "Telwyn" actually pays attention to you. His head turns, then slowly nudges upwards until he finally makes eye contact.
His jaw hangs loose, and he fails to find his words.

"Nice to meet you." You greet him. "The name's Gunny."

You offer him your hand, and although he reaches out to shake it, that dumbfounded look never leaves his face, nor does his jaw ever shut.

"You gonna close that or should i stick something in there?" You ask him.

"...Huh?"

"Nevermind. Just point me towards Gron, would you?"

"I-I can't, he-"

You stop him.

"Look, either you can show me or i can go looking. Which one do you think if going to cause more problems?"

"Please sir, he's very ill at the moment!"

"I'm sure he'll be fine."

Turns out, he's not quite fine.
When Telwyn eventually leads you to him, it's immediately obvious how fucked up he is.

"...Damn, Gron. You look like shit."

Gron stirs, slowly opening his eyes and turning his head to look at you. He scoffs.

"Hmph. You look different, but i recognize that voice. Come to finish me off?" He asks.

"No. I came here to make up, but..."

The actual gunshots wounds appear to have mostly healed, although there's some scarring. The real problem is a a series of white growths across his skin, almost looks like tree man syndrome.
They're spreading out in a circle from where you'd shot him.

"What the hell is this?" You ask.

"...Lead poisoning." He grumbles. "Didn't know what kind of weapon you were using. Didn't know they were still in me, until it was far too late."

"I've never seen lead poisoning cause something like this, though."

"...So it wasn't intentional, huh? Figured this was what you wanted."

"No, i had no idea this would happen. I was genuinely just trying to kill you via massive internal trauma."

Gron rolls his eyes.

"Gee, thanks."

"What's happening here anyways? I've seen growths like this before, but not caused by lead poisoning."

"Those growths are only on the surface." Telwyn interrupts. "A skin condition caused by a massive excess of lead in the body. The real issue is deeper down, in his organs. The lead is causing all sorts of havoc, replacing minerals that are vital for his metabolism."

"Oh, right. You guys eat rocks, don't you?"

"Certain kinds of organic rock. Not just anything will do." Gron corrects.

"What, you mean like clay or something? There are some humans who eat that stuff too. Supposed to be good for your digestion."

Gron raises an eyebrow at that.

"Really? What sort of clay is it?" He asks.

"Eh, it's called kaolin clay. We use it for all kinds of shit, like pottery and kitty litter."

"Ehem, excuse me." Telwyn interrupts again.

"Huh? Oh, sorry."
>>
>>5028808
Oh. Shit.
Well now I feel extremely fucking bad for the guy.
Hard to believe I was trying to come up with the best way to restrain him and ship him off to a bio-tech company just a week ago.
>>
>>5028808
This just in

Lead bullets are now apparently against the space Geneva convention.

Guess we gotta use plastic now.
>>
>>5028808
Fuck, the space government will try to take away our lead bullets, and make us use solid metal slugs. Reeeeee!

>A skin condition caused by a massive excess of lead in the body. The real issue is deeper down, in his organs. The lead is causing all sorts of havoc, replacing minerals that are vital for his metabolism.
So is this his body's way of trying to eject the lead from his body? Through bad skin growths? Why not hit him up with an IV drip or make him eat clay? Does he need a kidney replacement or some shit?
>>
Worse. His body can't tell the difference between lead and some other minerals that his bodily processes normally use, and the lead is replacing them in those processes.
However, the lead is different, and it's causing his organs to fail.
>>
>>5028808
Potentially good way of treating this is by taking a chelating agent along with high doses whatever lead-analogue he needs for normal metabolism. In theory, that should displace the lead from his system and aid excretion. Then again, this guy is a living rock. Maybe normal biology doesn't apply.
>>
>>5028820
I'm surprised we actually used lead. Those fell out of favor a while ago. Nowadays it's all steel core this and copper jacket that. Oh hey we should put tungsten in the fuckers. Really heavy bullets.
>>
>>5028823
Fucking shitty rock aliens. Only one step above the retarded birds we keep in our ship.

Give Gron a ton of prunes to shit out all the lead. That's what I say.

>>5028827
Now hold on there. We might be able to still use lead. If we need to kill people the long and insidious way and they happen to escape us, and have light armor, we could use hollow point lead bullets. That or bird shot. Hard to pick out unless you got super medical tools that can get all those fragments out, assuming anyone can get treatment before they die from shredded organs and extreme blood loss.
>>
>>5028820
>Tungsten tipped bullets intensifying!
>>
>>5028808
The fuck is that hand?
>>
>>5028827
We still use lead in most projectiles, Its just covered in a copper jacket most of the time, some bullets are sold unjacketed so its just pure lead dust your breathing in after every shot.
>>
>>5028852
either some horrible moldy fungus mushroom from fisting kayla or flour from kneading dough.
>>
>>5028808
Oooffff

I guess thats what happens when you aren't used to bullets. In humanity its already been internalized in a deep level that you need to get bullets and its fragments out. Even civvies in 3rd world nations know that.
>>
>>5028855
I'm pretty sure it's some kind of super bad skin disease. Growing nail tissue where it shouldn't. I mean shit there are conditions that make you grow bone instead of muscles after you get hurt, so why not have random bits growing where it shouldn't? Biology is a bitch.

Imagine breaking in a station while exploding half its inhabitants just to find out the dude you cane to kill is already one step away from death

Now i feel glad we got it in without blowing them up for entirely different reasons; on the bright side it looks like David now has more options to negotiate since gron wont be getting up from bed soon and if he dies we technically killed him so our deal with Sadia would be fulfilled.

As neutral mercenaries Sadia shouldn't be able to complain we didn't destroy DarkStar station to kill gron. We could also manage to get something out of this trip to DS, moth girl could still become the crews medic

>>
Based on how bad his condition seems to be we could probably just send a pic to Sadia and say that he's already dead. I mean if it looks that nasty they would probably believe it.
>>
>>5029019
I'm honestly kinda confused at how bad his symptoms are because lead is pretty hard to absorb if it is in its solid, elemental state. Most cases of lead exposure in people happen because the lead is pulverized into dust or incorporated into soluble organic compounds. Unless Mr. Rock has specialized biology that oxidizes lead into something more bioavailable, the dose he received from a few pistol rounds should be pretty manageable.
>>
>>5029151
he eats rocks, if anyone'd be affected it'd be him
>>
>>5029222
Organic rocks.

Makes sense. If the "rocks" were just normal clumps of dirt, there would be enough shitty trace minerals that it would eventually build up in a Chondrite and kill them. Meanwhile, rocks that "grow" as it were would naturally exclude most of the toxic elements. Kinda like how you can water plants with water that is not suitable to drink and still eat the fruit that grows.
>>
>>5029151
There's a certain level of "fucked if I know" that you should apply when trying to figure out aliens.

What do you mean by drugs? Distribution? Do they have a drug lab and ergo chemicals that could be reused into medical shit for Gron?
>>
>>5028808

"The ah... the lead in his system is unfortunately quite difficult to remove. Nanomachines tend to be metallic in nature, and his body is unusually reactive to metals. You could say that he's allergic to them, in a way. So we can't simply pull the lead atoms out one by one..."

"So that leaves chemical methods, huh? But then the question is how to remove the lead from his system without killing him. It's not like we can just make him drink acid, after all." You surmise.

"I uh... well, yes, actually. I'm sorry, are you a doctor, or a chemist, perhaps?" Telwyn asks you.

"No, but i've got some ideas. We could try to treat it like alcohol poisoning in humans, flush his system with so much of the correct mineral that it dilutes the lead and slows down it's effect on his system. Only, it won't do anything if he can't expel it naturally."

Gron and Telwyn both stare at you dumbfounded, this time. Then Gron starts laughing.

"He drinks alcohol! Of course he does! Hah!"

Meanwhile, Telwyn starts muttering to himself as he picks through Gron's charts.

"No, could that work? It's ridiculous, a barbaric method even, but maybe..."

Ignoring Telwyn, you walk over to the medical fabricator in the corner of the room, the only one you've seen so far in this hospital, and fabricate a large pile of chalk tablets, full of microscopic iron filings. With a bit of added sugar.
You then grab an empty plastic jug, write "Tums" on the side with a marker and dump the tablets inside.

"Here you go, bud. Fortified with iron." You tell Gron, handing him the bottle.

He seems suspicious of the tablets, but after opening the bottle and giving it a sniff, he grins.
Telwyn notices too late to stop Gron from chomping down on them, but still makes a fuss regardless.

"Wha- by the gods, what are you doing to my patient?!" He cries.

Gron crunches down on them, five or six at a time. He chews for a moment, then swallows.

"Ahhh... goes down easy. Reminds me of the lime cakes mom used to make."

"Well, we'll see if that does anything. I don't know if i can help you beyond that, so just keep eating them and hope for the best."

"Hmm. Why are you here, though? You said it was to "make up", but why?"

can we keep all the growths on gron?
We might be able to hide in those lots of escape items. Get him in central booking, find out where Lagard is, and then have him break out with the dude, getting them somone who kows everything about Saida Redsand operations. We get paid, saida is good in our books, DS is however dastardly and predictably escaped, especially if we surreptitiously offload some of their plasma caster dudes to offer fire support and have a prize ship conveniently docked for them to pirateer...

we might need Sanig to consider how to coat breakout tools inside those growths so scanners do not pick them out. Lock picks, detcord, explosives, or some collapsible tools.
>>
>>5029613
Playing both sides in a manner which can't be traced back to us definitively sounds much better than just betraying Sadia and thinking Dark Star will forgive us.

Our firearms don't pop up on weapons scanners anyway, and given the rarity of Chondrites I doubt anyone knows (without a thorough hands-on examination) what might be out of place on them.

"Honestly? I figured dark star was nothing but a gang of thugs. I had no problem taking you out if that was the case, and i was planning on it right up until i raided one of your ships and met Ryzzla."

"Ah, Ryzzla? She's one of the supply runners, isn't she? A pilot, if i remember correctly."

"Yeah, nice lady. That's the problem though. I don't enjoy killing civilians, so now i'm in a tough spot. One of my boys is in hospital back on Xebric, and they're expecting me to come back with your head."

Gron chuckles.

"So why don't you take it? I'm here, aren't i? Do you think Yorda can stop you?"

Yorda shifts uncomfortably, clears his throat and pointedly looks away from you.

"Were you listening?" You sigh. "I don't want to attack your people. They're just trying to live out here, man. I've seen the condition of this station, and i've got an idea of what life out here is like now. You're not doing it because you like it, are you?"

"You seem to have the wrong idea, Gunny. There are no civilians in Dark Star. Either you're a member or you're not. It doesn't matter if you're a meat eater or a plant eater, a predator or prey. We all fight together, or else we fall together."

"Sorry, but i disagree. Killing a dumb, innocent, helpless bastard is just shitty. If he did something to deserve it that's one thing, but some retard with a phaser doesn't pose the same threat as you. End of story."

"You..." Gron grins. "You're softer than you look, aren't you?"

Gron groans as he lifts himself up out of bed. With a chop of his hand, he breaks off the hard, white growths on his gut... probably lead oxide, now that you think of it.
He swings his legs around and stands, stretching his limbs. He was already shorter than you without the armor, but now you stand a full head taller than him.

"Arbiter, you can't!" Telwyn yells, trying to stop him. Gron just pushes him away with one arm.

"That suit of yours..." Gron growls. "It's too thick to be just armor. I'd like to see what it can do, if you're up for it."

"Can you even fight?" You ask.

"Those wounds you gave me have already scarred over. It's no problem."

"Arbiter Kordunn!" Yorda chides. "Consider your health! You're in absolutely no condition for... for roughhousing!"

Gron scoffs.

"I've already been in this facility for ages, old man. If i'm going to die, i'd rather do so on my feet, in battle. And besides..."

Opening his bottle of "tums", he scarfs down another whole mouthful with a grin.

"No." You answer firmly.

"...Huh? Why the hell not?" Gron asks, annoyed.

"I don't know exactly what the food chain looks like around here, but... these people depend on you, don't they? You wouldn't be running around and getting into trouble like this for no reason."

"What's your point, Gunny?"

"My point is, you need to take care of yourself before you can take care of others. Know your limits, take time to hea-"

Gron throws a massive punch at you, which you intercept with both palms. However, he forces it though using his whole body, lifting you and your armor up off the ground ever so slightly.

"I know my body, human! It will take more than a bit of lead poisoning to kill me. Even without treatment, i would have healed in time. Maybe a month, maybe more, but it would heal."

"So then why don't you let it?" You ask.

"Because, i know my body. All this sitting around, it's not doing me any good. I need to move. I need to work! Even if i was dying, i refuse to lie down in bed and let it happen!"

Ah... you know that feeling. You've been in the hospital more than once, and it just wears on you after a while. Maybe what he really needs is just...
You look out the station window into the dark, black and infinite reaches of space. Well, maybe a walk through the park isn't on the menu, but some kind of exercise would help.

"Alright. I think i understand how you feel, Gron. I've taken a few injuries in my time as well, you know. But sparring is no good. I can teach you some light exercises that won't strain your body too much. Do you have localized gravity control on this station?"

Gron rubs his chin for a second.

"Yes, we do. Why are you asking?"

"Crank it up to 0.7G for a start, would you?"

"...Computer, set localized gravity field to 0.7G, centered on me." Gron commands.

You feel your body get slightly heavier as the gravity increases.
The two old men however, are noticeably encumbered by the extra weight. Yorda in particular hunches over and groans in pain, leaning on his cane to keep upright.
Telwyn helps to escort him out of the room despite clearly being pressed by the weight himself. Everyone else in the room seems unphased, however.

"This here is the gravity of my friend here, Cylia's homeworld." You inform everyone.

"It feels so light now, compared to what i remember..." Cylia mumbles.

"Still feels like i'm floating, to me." Kyla adds.

You chuckle.

"Crank it up to 1G, Gron."

Reluctantly, Gron does as you ask and sets the gravity in the room to match that of earth.
You, Kyla and Cylia are all fine, but the guards who had been watching over you seem to be getting tired quickly. Their guns, which had been held flat against their bodies, now hang down with their barrels pointed towards the floor.
Gron looks unphased at first, but you can tell that this is heavy for him as well. His body weighs way more than yours does after all. Even in half gravity, it felt like he was twice your size.
>>
>>5031527

"Now that's more like it!" Kyla chirps. "This feels a lot more like home."

"This is the gravity we keep on my ship." You inform everyone. "It's the same as on my home planet. You can feel the difference right away, can't you?"

"It's immense." Gron admits. "Enough to make the blood pool in your organs if you sit still for too long."

"Yeah, that's a problem back on earth. But, this level of gravity is also great for working out in. Without it, i'd have to rely on resistance training."

Your armor opens up from the back, allowing you to step out of it with ease before it closes back in on itself.

"David, are you sure that's a good idea?" Cylia asks nervously, looking around at the guards.

"It's fine." You assure her. "I don't sense any hostility from these guys, nor from Gron. If they wanted to try something, they'd have done it already."

"But he just punched you..."

"He did, but he didn't really. You know what i mean?"

"No, i really, really don't."

Waving her off, you then proceed to show Gron several workouts that avoid the abdominal region entirely. He doesn't even get through half of them before he exhausts himself.
Breathing heavily, he drops down onto bed, crushing it's steel frame under his weight and dropping him to the floor.

"Gah! Damn it, that was a brand new frame, too."

"Are you heaving trouble breathing, Gron?" You ask him.

"No... hah... hah... this is normal. Damned station air... always so thin."

"Ah, yeah. I had to get used to that, too. Felt like my lungs were burning if i exerted myself just a little bit. Back on earth you only had oxygen that thin on the highest mountains."

"What do you mean you "got used to it"? You don't look like the thin air is bothering you in the slightest."

"I mean exactly what i said. It might take a couple weeks, or even months in extreme cases... but we humans can survive in low oxygen and low pressures like this, no problem."

Gron looks surprised, even as trails of sweat trickle down his skin, drying to leave trails of white powder where they went.

"I've never heard of a species simply adapting to lower oxygen levels. How fortunate you are, to have such bountiful colonization options."

"...Gron, is your sweat salty, by chance?" You ask.

"Salt? Of course, my sweat is full of calcium chloride and other mineral salts..."

Without another word, you wipe a drop of gron's sweat off onto your finger and stick it directly into your mouth.

"Ewwww! That's friggin' disgusting!" Kyla exclaims. "He's a dude, you know!"
Cylia acts as though she just puked in her mouth a little.

"...What the hell are you doing?" Gron asks, genuinely confused.

You can't help but smile as you spit out what you just tasted.

"Heh. Looks like your instincts were right, Gron. It's sweet. Your sweat is full of lead."

Gron pauses for a moment, before grinning like a madman.
He swallows another fistful of tums with a glass of water and goes straight back to working out like a man possessed.

Inbetween Gron grunting and the old men hunched over with back pain just outside the room, Cylia seems to be questioning something.

"...What were we here for again?" She asks.

"An alliance, remember?" You remind her.

"But what does any of this..."

Ignoring her, you flip onto your hands and begin doing handstand pushups, right next to Gron.
After thirty or so, he speaks.

"Impressive, human. Your muscles are well developed."

"That's nothin'!" You chuckle. "Watch this."

Shifting your weight, you begin doing your handstand pushups with one arm.
To your surprise, Kyla also drops down beside you and begins doing normal pushups herself.

"Hey Kyla, see if you can clap between each pushup!"

Cylia sighs in exhaustion and goes to sit by the guards, who have since given up on standing and are sitting with their weapons laid over their legs.
Together with Gron and Kyla, you work through the remainder of the exercises you think would be good for him, and a few that were just for showing off, including a few two-finger pushups.
By the end of the workout, a pool of sweat has formed underneath all three of you. But Gron's looks a little different, as there are little crystals of lead oxide growing out of it. He's literally sweating the lead out of his system.

Panting in utter exhaustion, he has a wide smile on his face.

"I'm exhausted... but i feel much better already. Your stamina is unbelievable, human."

"Your strength is pretty amazing to me, Gron. I can't believe you lifted my armor off the ground, that shit's heavy you know?"

"No... it's not enough. Perhaps i should begin strength training as well. After all, i can only just match you."

"Jeeze, you know how freakin' hard i worked to bench 500? That's a life goal for some people! And you didn't even have to try."

"Yes, but how long could we keep it up for? I've always been concerned about that. In a prolonged battle, if i were to become exhausted..."

"Sounds like you need cardio. If you run a few miles a day at the start..."

"Excuse me." Cylia interrupts.

"What is it, Caithan?" Gron asks her.

"We came here to talk about an alliance against Sadia, not to... whatever this is." She points out.

"Ah, yes... an alliance. Very well, i don't see why i shouldn't accept."

"...That easy? You're not upset at all?" You wonder.

"About what, Human?"

"You know, that building full of dark star mercenaries i wiped out?"

The mood in the room sours almost instantly, except between you and Gron.

"He did what...?" One of the guards whispers to another.

Gron just laughs. He even slaps his knee.

"...BAHAHAHA! Them? No, they were not my brothers and sisters. Just as you said, they were mercenaries. Pirates, mostly... all gathered from nearby stations. Many were from Xebric itself as well. I didn't even pay them up front, it's no loss."

"Oh. Well, that's good to hear. Really good, actually."

You feel some relief, knowing you didn't kill anyone worth caring about. Probably.

"Oh? And what'd you do?"

"I was preoccupied at the time, so it hit it's mark. Smashed into a million pieces and stunned me for a second. My first shot missed, so he escaped."

"If it's any consolation, he probably died in the raid. That was some nasty stuff you put in the air, by the way. Made my eyes and lungs burn like fire."

"Yeah, i had to weaken it a lot to keep it from killing everyone. It still took out a few of them even at that concentration, though. Say, what was that bomb you used?"

"Ah, that was actually this little guy right here."

Gron pulls a spherical device out from under his hospital bed's pillow. It's clearly made of metal, but has some kind of rubber coating and a button on the outside.

"A grenade?" You wonder.

"Yes, very good. Not many people use grenades, but i should have figured you would. This one can stick to flat surfaces after being thrown, and can even be set to explode upon detecting movement."

As an example, he pressed the rubber coating of the grenade against the hospital's sheet steel wall, where it sticks with ease.

"But i wonder, how did you know i'd planted it there? I was shocked when you began tearing through the door like that, and even set off the grenade."

"It was just instinct. Last door in the hall, hadn't encountered any real resistance yet... something just felt off. Like someone was waiting for me. And if it was me in there, i'd take that time to set a trap."

Gron smiles.

"Instinct, huh? Like a wild animal. You're an interesting one, you know that?"

"Yeah, i get the feeling that i'm out of place out here."

"...Tell me, human. You seek an alliance, but what do you actually expect of me? Our resources may be more limited than you would think. Our people can fight, but it does us no favors. That is why we use mercenaries."

"I can arm and armor you. Quality over quantity. Gas grenades, regular grenades, guns, skinsuits..."

"Skin...suits?" Gron says, slowly.

You point out the black material poking out through your overclothes to cover your hands and neck.

"This isn't just underwear, it's light armor. Phaser resistant, fire-retardant..."

Keep in mind its Sanig that makes em, and he wants to keep it secret and make bucket loads of money.

We can probably use Darkstar to help market and sell them on the black market, but still this is Sanig's tech and labor so we should at least consult him before giving it out willy nilly like we are the CIA tossing pallets of it out of a plane but with less manpower, funding, and secrecy.

I think we should make something more akin to composite space armor with some bulk to slow down and eventually stop projectiles, basically give them some downgraded stuff, it be cheaper and easier to make too. You consider giving him the full deets, but these as as much Sanig's suits as they are yours, and he probably wants to sell them.
It's not like you'd be telling him how to make them, but it would make the suits a target worth stealing. You decide it's more trouble than it's worth.

"...Breathable, stretchy and durable too. They're even better if you add hard armor over the outside."

"Hmm. How phaser resistant is it, exactly?" Gron asks.

"Kyla?" You motion.

Kyla stands at attention.

"Aye Aye, Captain!"

Raising the small phaser on her hip, she fires straight into your chest without hesitation.
To your surprise, it seems to pack more punch than a regular phaser despite actually being smaller... but still not enough to punch through the suit.
It does however leave a big hole in your outer clothes, and actually manages to set them on fire. You pat the flame out casually with your hand before turning back to Gron.
He inspects the damage and seems satisfied.

"Shockingly effective, considering how thin it looks. I assume that armor you came in with isn't for sale?"

"Oh, definitely not. It's one of a kind, anyways."

"And what of your weapons? I'm not even certain how they work."

You pull out your 1911, and Gron eyes it very closely. That's the same weapon that almost put him down, after all.

I don't get why we can't make better laser or energy weapons for them and use their existing logistics. We would have to start a whole new supply chain for them from scratch so they don't run out of ammo that would cost us money and resources while panning to wage war on a galactic corporation that has much more R&D and supply advantages.
>>
>>5035724
We can do that.

But applying moving object works pretty well too. Personal shields also seem to not work very well against these kinematic projectiles.

"I'm sure you already know, these weapons fire a solid projectile. Most personal shields are useless against them, and they can be used continuously as long as you have ammo."

You eject the magazine and rack the slide of your 1911, catching the round it ejects midair, then hold it between your fingers for everyone to see.

"Just keep in mind, these things don't wound. They kill. If that goes against anyone's sensibilities, don't bother giving them one."

You toss the pistol into the air and grab it by the barrel, then hand it to Gron grip-first.
He takes it, and it's immediately clear that it's too small for his rather large hands and thick fingers. He's no piano player.

Gron looks it over, racks the slide as you had done then starts aiming down the sights. Then he pulls the trigger by catching it on his fingernail, dry-firing it.

"What the hell are you doing, dumbass?" You bark.

"Studying the weapon?" He responds, confused at your sudden shift in tone.

"No, you just pulled the fucking trigger. What if there was a round in the chamber?"

"There wasn't. You ejected it, and i checked for one myself."

"And what if you were mistaken? What's on the other side of that wall, Gron?"

"...Several other patients. Yes, i understand that. But i checked-"

"People make mistakes. That's fine if you're making a McSandwich or pissing on the rim of the toilet, but not when you're holding a gun. Give that here."

Gron sheepishly hands the pistol back to you.

"This isn't a phaser. Depending on the weapon, it'll punch straight through hardened steel. Through station walls, station glass... It doesn't just stop when it hits something."

SHODAN displays footage of you blowing the cockpit glass out of their ship.

"That's two inch thick cockpit glass... It's supposed to survive micrometeorite strikes!" One of the guards exclaims.

"Good lord, he just ripped it right out of the frame!" Another one comments.

"Well, feel the gravity we're sitting in. Those two act like it's nothing."

"I always knew the arbiter was strong, but who is this guy?"

SHODAN then goes on to show a rifle round penetrating solid steel in super slow-motion to further illustrate your point. You can't remember which video that's from, but it's definitely something you watched at some point.

"Jeeze, is that really metal? It's splashing out like water."

"That's because the round you see there is moving at around 2,600 feet per second. At those speeds, even solid metal acts like a fluid on impact." You inform them.

"And that's why, among other reasons, you don't dry-fire your weapon indoors. You can imagine what that would do to a soft, squishy target like you."

You poke Gron hard in the side, causing him to wince.

"And you don't have to imagine. Now, as for what sort of weapons i'm willing to offer..."

SHODAN displays a pair of rotating models for you. One is the Ruger SR22, a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The other is a Mosin Nagant, model 1891.

"These look... wildly different from eachother." Gron notes.

He looks over the ruger more carefully, comparing it to the 1911.

"These two are quite similar though. What is the difference in their function?"

In response, SHODAN displays the bullets they fire, along with a side-by-side comparison of the bullets impacting a block of ballistics gel.

"Power, plain and simple. Of course, the details are more complicated than that, but they aren't important. What matters is, these small rounds are still deadly, but they're easier to fire and you can carry a lot of them."

He scratches his chin, seeming to have considered what you said before agreeing with it.

"Alright. Then what about this one? It's far larger, and i've never seen this material before... what is it made of?"

"That's wood, Gron. It's what trees are made out of."

He seems oddly excited at that for some reason.

"Wood you say? I've heard about trees before, apparently they grow on most habitable planets in some form, but i've never seen one. It's certainly a beautiful material."

"Yep. Treated with cosmoline, it'll last just about forever. And i don't mean a couple decades, i mean literally hundreds of years. The only downside is, these rifles are heavy as hell. Only the stronger folks will be able to carry and actually use them without tiring out."

"If it's that heavy though, the firepower must be immense."

"For sure. It's chambered in uh... well, we'll just call it .308. That was the big bullet you saw penetrating steel earlier. If the .22 isn't enough to put someone down, the Mosin Nagant will, along the next two guys behind him."

"Hmm. The hole it produces is so small compared to plasma weaponry, but the damage is immense. Isn't it dangerous to fire? There must be some drawbacks."

You chuckle.

"Yeah, if you were back on earth maybe... your biggest threat is old surplus ammo turning it into a shrapnel bomb in your hands. With freshly-printed ammo though, it won't be a problem. Ah, i guess there's also the recoil, though."

"Recoil?"

"Yeah, you don't really have that problem with phasers, do you? But these guys fire heavy projectiles, sometimes at twice the speed of sound or more. And newton's third law is a bitch."

"I... don't understand."

"Ah, Newton was the guy who first discovered gravity back home, when he watched a piece of fruit fall out of a tree. The important part of newton's laws of motion here is that when an object exerts force on another object, an equal and opposite force is exerted upon itself."

SHODAN replays footage of a bullet being fired from a mosin for you, this time with spectacular fireball. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4mL3kMnSaM

"Fortunately, the bullet is very small, while the gun is nice and heavy. But that steel butt-plate still slams into your shoulder pretty hard if you don't keep a good grip on it."

"...Why place a steel plate on the end of it, then?" One of the guards asks.

We could run the limited production run as an appetizer and get the them enough hardware but not give them the blueprints excep for ammo. A moment is all it takes to synchronize a holographic version of the mosin with your own movements. SHODAN has gotten really good at reading your thoughts, almost to the point where it seems like she knows what you're thinking before you do.

You take your phantom mosin in hand, then quickly cross the room and drive the butt of the stock into the guard's head. He panics and flinches hard, even letting out a girlish squeal until he realizes nothing happened.

"That's what the steel plate is for." You say, flipping the holographic mosin into the air and catching it by the barrel. Next, you swing it at the side of his head like a club. "And it can also be used like this." You continue.

"F-Freakin' fast... i couldn't react before he crossed the room! And in this gravity!" The guard mutters.

"Hmm. You're faster than i thought, human. Regardless, even with these weapons and armor, what are you expecting? It's not like we can just wipe out the whole station, and if it comes down to ship-to-ship combat, we're screwed."

>We don't have to attack the station itself. As a frontier station, they rely heavily on imports just like you do. So we raid their supply ships instead, and add them to our fleet for extra firepower.
>So we don't fight with ships. We don't need to wipe out the whole station either, just the men in control, like Elynderr. Me, you and a few strong men infiltrate quietly, and we take them out from the shadows.
>We could go directly for their pockets. Their real operation is in making and smuggling redsang, but they also front as a mining outpost. I happen to know a guy who was doing a pretty good job of interrupting their redsang shipments already, so it could work.

Honestly we can combine some of the aforementioned choices.
We can reenter the station with a cosmetically Injured Gron with some of his men waiting in the ship. We'll go about our business as usual to grab grandpa gas bag, free Lagard, then see about killing Elynderr and co. Then afterwards we can have someone be sent into the core worlds to upload data so the company's stock market plummets due to everyone knowing all their shady shit, in addition to raiding supply ships.
>>
>>5037819
War is the continuation of politics with other means. Sadia won't just sit down and let us take this system, we need to convince them it's cheaper to abandon this system than the alternative of sinking resources into it to keep the drugs going. Therefore we need to make their position unsustainable politically and economically. Their redsang operation is key to this. We need to expose their redsang operation in order to damage them politically, disrupt their operation to damage them economically, and then take direct action against their forces. We have the advantage in ground combat so I would suggest limiting our combat actions to fighting on the station itself, with the exception of pirating their smuggling ships.
>>
>>5037913
so pretty much: upload incriminating info to Coreworlds, free Lagard, and steal supplies going to the station?

"We could go directly for their pockets. Their real operation is in making and smuggling redsang, but they also front as a mining outpost. I happen to know a guy, Laggard, who was doing a pretty good job of interrupting their redsang shipments already, so it could work."

"Laggard? That mean son of a bitch is still around?"

"Yeah, you know him?" You wonder.

"We ran together for a few years, but he was supposed to be out of the business. Last i heard, he'd finally made it and settled down somewhere, started a family. I'm surprised he'd be out here doing anything at all, no less running against a corporation like that. Something must have happened."

"Yeah, he seemed pretty pissed when i took him down..."

"You took him down? What the hell did you do that for?!"

"...A paycheck?"

Gron smack his face with an open palm and groans.

"Damn it. Laggard never was any good in a fight, but he was a damn fine pilot. How did you end up besting him?"

You take a moment to think back on it. From what you remember, yeah... he was actually a pretty good pilot. But your ship was and continues to be complete bullshit. Once he couldn't see you on scanners anymore, it was game over.

"...I cheated, basically. My ship is pretty high-spec."

"Ah... well, nothing you can do about that. Either you're geared up or you aren't."

"Well, from what i know, he's sitting in jail somewhere on Xebric right now. I need to get my crewmate out of there as well, but i'm not sure when it would be appropriate."

"Hmm. Before we start attacking them would be good, but, as you said, they're expecting my head."

"Yeah. I dunno, if we just had someone who could infiltrate..."

"Uhm... hello?" Cylia interrupts, waving her hand.

"What's the matter, miss?" Gron asks her.

"Infiltrator, right here." She motions to herself. "I'm great at sneaking around. I could grab the two of them while you guys are off causing a ruckus. They'll be too busy dealing with that to care about me."

That... could work, actually!

"We even have laggard's old ship laying around, and Treg's as well. You could use either one to get in and out pretty quickly!"

"You could set some time bombs around the place as you go, too. Bet that would cause a ruckus." Kyla offers nonchalantly.

You chuckle.

"Kyla, you really are a little gremlin sometimes, you know that? Heh. Alright, yeah. This is starting to sound like a lot of fun. Fuck it, let's do this!"

"What, right now?" Gron asks.

"Yeah! If we're just doing hit and runs, your physical condition doesn't matter. Do you have a ship with an interdictor?"

"Yes, most of our ships are equipped with one, actually." He confirms.

"Great. The sooner we get started, the better. Let's rip these motherfuckers six or seven new assholes!"

The two old men protest and you walk past.

"Where are you going?!"

Gron and the girls are right behind you, so you just ignore them.
Heading back the way you came, you hop back into the shuttle and squeeze your way into the pilot's seat, while Gron and the girls pile in behind you. One of the guards manages to squeeze in as well.

"Can you pilot this thing?" Gron asks.

"Probably."

The engines, having gone cold while you were visiting the hospital, backfire several times and try to die on you. Looks like something's wrong with the fuel flow, from what you can tell.
So you smack the fuel gauge hard. The pressure on the adjacent gauge immediately rises, and the engines roar to life.

"There we go."

The shuttle actually acts like a VTOL, redirecting it's exhaust for flight under light gravity. So you tilt upwards a bit and swap over to flight mode, launching yourself out of the bay with ease.
You don't actually know how the computer on this thing works... it looks ancient after all, but you remember where the station you came from was, so you just fly there manually.

The guard that squoze in with you seems to be getting antsy after a few minutes, so you decide to question him.

"What's the matter, kid?"

"Ah, it's just... you haven't even turned on the navigation or flight computer. Are you sure you know what you're doing?"

"Me? Hah, nope. But i've flown once or twice in my life. As long as i have my hands on the controls, we should be good."

True to your word, you land in the docking bay of the other station not long afterwards. The guard breathes a sigh of relief as he steps out onto solid ground.

"Hah... he even landed manually..." he mutters.

Gron chuckles as he steps out of the shuttle, causing it to creak and groan as his weight comes off the frame.

"You remind me a lot of Laggard, human. He would fly for the sake of flying like that. He never did like letting the computers do his piloting for him."

"Oh yeah? That's odd. His ship had an AI onboard when i captured him. He didn't get much of a chance to do his own flying before i took out his thrusters."

"That is odd, for him anyways. Were there others with him? Lilu? Rairama?"

"No, he was alone."

Suddenly, you hear a loud metallic banging noise echoing throughout the hangar. It's the guard that Sanig was playing with, who's cursing and beating his head against a wall right now. Well, at least he's wearing a helmet.
You spy Sanig walking over with a big grin on his face, leaning what looks like that guard's plasma caster against his shoulder.

"Well well, look who it is. Give me one reason i shouldn't blast you, gravel brain." Sanig growls, still grinning.

"Ah, the old grey? So you survived, did you?"

"That's right, and i believe i'm owed some back pay. I did my job, did i not?"

Sanig lowers his weapon and trains it on Gron. The guard that came with you starts to raise his own caster in response, but you just gently cup his entire head in your armored palm.

Taking a holopad out of his pocket, he activates the screen and taps on it for a few moments. You hear Sanig's holopad ping, and he pulls it out to check it.

"Six thousand? Peh, cheapskate. I got five out of that idiot over there and barely had to work for it."

Sanig points to the guard that was banging his head against the wall, now crumpled with his back against it, weeping quietly.

"There's no way that guy had five thousand credits." Gron argues.

"Why do you think i have this?"

Sanig raises the his new caster into the air and gives it a pat.

"Interesting concept. I've seen a few of these circulating around in recent years. Was it your idea?"

"No, i'm no engineer. Those toys are Kigg's work."

"Oh, this is no toy..." Sanig says in a low, almost sultry voice. He rubs the side of his gun and lets out a gross chuckle.

You cough to get their attention, simultaneously letting go of the guard, who refuses to move from that position until you walk away from him.

"Ahem. If you two are done? Sanig, i'll inform you of the game plan on our way back. Where's Clank, by the way?"

"Ah, the robot? It's guarding the ship. Said it didn't want any stealthy intruders coming up on our behinds or something."

"Well, i don't want anyone coming on my behind." You agree. "Are you going to be taking one of your own ships, Gron?"

"Indeed, i prefer my own vessel. It's not in this bay though. Set a beacon and i'll join you after a while, i just need to make some preparations."

You wonder for a moment if he might be taking this as an opportunity to sneak attack your ship, but there isn't a hint of malice in his eyes. In fact, you don't think there ever was, looking back.
Even when you were fighting back on Xebric station, he seemed more like he was enjoying himself than anything... right up until you gutshot him.

You wouldn't say that you've been too aggressive, necessarily... but maybe you could have chosen your work a little better. Well, it's not like you could have known at the time.
Ah... actually, Cylia did warn you, huh? But then, you're also here right now because she jumped on those guys.

But then, those guys were assholes and deserved to die, as far as you're concerned. And Sadia is full of scum like that. Scum that is currently trying to fuck you over, you're pretty sure.
You can't help but try to pinch your nose through your helmet. All of this is giving you a big damned headache.

"Are you alright, David?"
"You alright, Dave?

Cylia and Kyla both ask, almost in unison. They look at eachother for a moment, then back to you.

"Yeah, yeah... it's just... this is all a clusterfuck, you know. But, i know who i hate the most right now, and momma always did tell me to follow my heart."

"...Wha?"

>momma always did tell me to follow my heart."
Momma always said "If you're ever in a space corpo-gang drug turf-war just listen to your guts, honey.". I love you momma.

The heart wants what the heart wants...and it's currently demanding dead corpos.
I say we steal one of their fancy fabricators too while we're at it.

I just want to avoid civ casualties :(

Corpos arent people or civilians. They're already dead inside and sold their souls to their corporate overlords. Death would be a mercy.

"What i'm trying to say is..."

Well, as their squad leader you don't want to tell them that you have no idea what the correct course of action is, but...

"Ahem. What i'm trying to say is that uh, given time, the enemy will naturally reveal themselves to you. And now, i think, i know quite clearly who my enemy is. So naturally, the course of action is clear as well!"

"And that is...?" Cylia asks.

"Well, they're too big to kill outright... in short order, anyways. So we hurt them. In mean-spirited, unreasonable and even downright evil ways, we just fucking hurt them. Mentally. Physically. Spiritually. Socially and financially. Well, you already know what we're about to do, more or less."

"Yeah, i guess. This isn't even close to what i pictured when i first came out here. Where did it all go wrong?" She wonders.

"I would say around the time you took out that loan... wait, shit. I forgot about that! You assholes stole Cylia's ship!"

Gron raises an eyebrow at that, but doesn't say anything.

"I mean, it was my own fault, really... Sure, the interest was high, but it's not like they were hiding that fact. I knew what i was doing was risky." She admits.

"How long ago was that, girl?" Gron asks.

"Ah... a little over half a year ago now, i guess?"

Gron rubs his chin, his gaze directed towards one of the smaller, tarp-covered ships sitting in the bay.
He walks over and grabs the tarp, pulling it fairly hard to slide the whole thing off, revealing what looks like something inbetween a personal fighter and a corvette.
Cylia gasps as it's revealed, and immediately runs over to it. She runs her hands across some apparently meaningful scratches in the paint and smiles widely.

"It's a cozy little ship." Gron tells you. "I've flown her once or twice, but it's no good for the sort of missions i usually go on. Two seats, one bedroom, a small toilet... no kitchen. Armed to the teeth, though, and a little heavy in the ass-end."

"Yeah, this is her... dad's old ship." Cylia says, sounding a little down. She tried to open the entry hatch, but the hand-scanner buzzes as it rejects her.

"I'm glad you didn't just break her down for scrap." She mumbles.

"Of course not. Scrap is everywhere, but this is a fine vessel. Anything in decent condition however, is hard to find. That's why we give out those loans. In the hopes that we can grab a few working ships, legally. Either they repay their loans and we make money, or we get a ship for cheap. It's a win either way."

Cylia seems irritated, but she doesn't say anything.

"...Do you want it back, miss?"

"...Of course i do, but..."

"Money, is it? Sure, it's fairly small... but the specs are good, and it's well-maintained. It could go for 40k, easy."

Cylia slowly closes her eyes and sighs in defeat.

"Cyl, you're not that far off. You could buy it back if i..." You begin to offer, but Gron stops you.

"There's no need for that, Human. If you assist us in taking over Xebric station, it's yours."
>>
>>5041170
Well, we get Grandpa Gasman back, and Cylia's ship.
>>
>>5041203
Its a Trap!
>>
>>5041217
Grandpa Gasman is probably under surveillance, yeah.
>>
>>5041170
>"There's no need for that, Human. If you assist us in taking over Xebric station, it's yours."
>taking over a station that's worth something in the hundreds of millions of credits range, for a ship that costs 40k
Key words. Bitch don't throw in extra clauses. We never explicitly talked about taking over the station, but if that is a goal, we're gonna want a bigger cut than just getting Cylia's ship back.

>>5041203
We're gonna need more than just those two. I won't stand to let any of us get undercut for doing the whole job.

>>5041217
the whole station is gonna be a trap, yeah, but there is loot to be had.
>>
>>5041170
REFUSE THE TRADE, the pirates will say "your payment was cylia's ship :^) " make a down payment instead and pay the rest in comfortable monthly dues
>>
>>5041233
Yeah, isn't the plan to steal credits? who said something about taking over? replacing one drug lord with another drug lord is not David's thing
>>
>>5041355
If anything I think we should make it a co-opted management of the station.
>>
>>5041170

"Is that all?" You ask calmly.

"...What do you mean, human?"

"It sounds to me like you expect a spacecraft in return for a station. Is that all it's worth to you?"

"Hmm. First off, we don't even have the station yet. No guarantee we'll get it either, but the ship's yours either way. And second, you never asked for anything else. You just said we had a common enemy, that we'd be better off fighting together. And that's true, i think."

Gron sits down heavily on a nearby crate, causing it to crush slightly under his weight.

"But yes, Xebric is quite the catch. If we really did manage to take it, well... i suppose your reward should be in order to your contribution, which we've yet to see. That said, what exactly would you be expecting?

>Cash, plain and simple. Sell off whatever assets you have to, but i want a fat wallet at the end of the day.
>Ships. Xebric has plenty of mining vessels and other smaller ships, and i want some of them for my fleet.
>Land. I want a portion of the station in my name, and free access to them, including a spot at the docks.
>A favor. If i'm ever in trouble in the future, no matter what it is, i expect you to help me.
>Write-In?
