Last time: Percival managed to beat the Water Gym and won his third badge, landing himself a sponsorship from “Aztlan Wildlife Rescue” our groups moves on to Ceniceros, a small but lively rural town renowned for their cuisine which happens to be located near a volcano. At the request of Archeologist and Gym Leader Henry Ford, Percival enters the “Tomb of the Beast Master” in search for an underground bunker that could be connected to other sets of ruins across the region. Here he teamed up with the full time bounty hunter and part time conspiracy theorist Diane, after meeting the reclusive Pokémon inhabiting these ruins and their leader the “Golett Sage” the duo manage to take down the “Guardian of the Tomb” a powerful machine that protected the ruins from intruder, after botching its self-destruct attempt Percy met and caught the pilot of the murder machine, a sad, mopey Espurr and promised the mon to find him a home.

As Diane explains in detail her far-fetched, high stakes plans to steal the ancient Pokéball you failed to snag, as she shows you her night vision googles she ordered off the internet you can’t help but chuckle.

You look at her to see if she’s joking but her expression is completely serious. The painfully untrue statement makes your chuckle turn into full-on laughter.

[Diane]: Hey! I am really cool! Right guys?

The bounty hunter asks her Pokémon team who only gives a series of lukewarm, mild-mannered responses, trying to avoid the question. Except for her Rampardos who is just seemingly perpetually in a state of unless he is being directly addressed.

[Diane]: I swear I used to be cooler, but you know, being just you and your mons and no one else around.

[Diane]: They seem to bring out the real you, or at least things you wouldn’t normally show to other people.

[Percy]: Hey, I get it. Really. Don’t worry, I’m pretty lame too.

You tell Diane that you are currently a little busy, you have run some errands really quick, but you’ll get to her after you are done, she doesn’t seem to have a problem with that. The two of you exchange contact info and prepare to leave the ruins.

Just you and Diane.

After parting ways with Diane after promising her some food you and your team find yourselves back in town. Once you arrived at the surface once more you let “Shinji” the Espurr out of his ball so he can get some air and start to get acquainted with your team and the outside world, his intense gaze turns up to the setting sun. “So that’s the sky. The real thing. Huh…” There’s a sound of relief on his musings, he seems to be doing a bit better. Good for him.

You call up Gareth to let him know about your plans for tonight and call Kadabra to retrieve the documents you need to deliver.
Speaking of Kadabra, he and Gareth have been hanging around a lot lately. It’s a bit weird, Kadabra was always curious about humans in general, but he never interacted with people besides you, you wonder what made him change from a passive observer to seek a friendship with your older friend.

It takes him a few minutes, but the psychic Pokémon manages to teleport from place to place until he reaches the dominion of the Yellow King back in your home city and returns to Ceniceros with the data in hand. The psychic type who’s a little winded from the trip tells you that he needs to talk to you about an important matter later before going off to rest somewhere.

After asking around the local mons and some people you manage to locate the lab, a decently sized institution located on the edge of town, it reminds you of a hospital. The buildings are surrounded by a lush green field where different Pokémon roam around the premises peacefully. From what you gathered this place is a rehabilitation center for Pokémon who suffer from both mental and physical conditions.

Near the entrance of one of those buildings, there are two familiar figures seem to be arguing, a young brown-skinned lady in a white uniform, she’s the girl who was hanging around with Gareth back at Ibarra village, and more importantly a White Veil employee and assistant to the man that thrashed your ass with some jacked-up Raticates.

The other is a mature lady in a lab coat wearing an exasperated look on her face, she matches the description Maple gave you of her mentor. She looks awfully a lot like one of the Elite 4 members.

The White Veil employee is pleading to Aspen desperately while the woman tells her to leave but you can’t quite make sense of their discussion this far away.

You decide to lay low to evade getting more attention on yourself and wait for the White Veil employee to leave. After some minutes of hiding behind a sleepy Snorlax, you see the girl dressed in white storms off visibly frustrated, you can overhear how she complains and worries about her bosses chewing her out for failing a simple task.

Once she’s out of sight you approach Dr. Aspen, the woman who stills seems irritated by her previous discussion tries to shake off her stress and greets you properly in the most professional manner. “Good afternoon. You must be Percival, right? Professor Maple told you’d be coming”

Professor Maple already filled her in some details without revealing anything too important besides the urgency of the matter.

“Welcome to Ceniceros “Pokémon rehabilitation and research center, I'm doctor Aspen, It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” The woman stands up and offers you a handshake. You sort of just keep staring at her hand for a minute before shaking it.

You are a bit star-struck for a moment, she’s not only an Elite 4 member, but she’s also one of the most prominent researchers in Aztlan’s Poké-scientific community, writing extensive papers on Pokémon behavior and psyche. You’d been just standing there nodding without saying a single word, but Doc Aspen keeps her professional attitude up without minding you.

“I hope I’m not overstepping my boundaries, but I’ve heard about your abilities in Pokémon communication, and I wanted to see them for myself, there’s a particular matter I was hoping you could help me with, also she told me that I should give a thorough examination to the Elekid who is accompanying you, I assure you it is completely safe. Could I interested you in a tour around the facilities while we properly discuss the subjects at the matter?”

You are a bit incredulous to see an Elite 4 in your rather small contact, first a Gym Leader now and Elite 4, you are making some real connections now. You hand Aspen the documents regarding White Veil activities and bid her adieu.

On your way, you send the Archeologist Henry a message to tell him that you found the bunker alongside all the info on your latest expedition as well as the photographic evidence you took while down there in the ruins. He responds almost immediately congratulating you for a job well done, he asks you to call him as soon as you can so you can tell him what happened in full detail and discuss what's next. He sounded pretty excited about this, he also paid you $10,000 for your help.

Later that night you met with Diane and your friends at a local restaurant you saw earlier today while browsing the marking stalls for some food. The place has a casual vibe to it, most tables are on the outside of it. It's fully packed, both people and mons are all enjoying their meals and having a general good time while the staff runs around from table to table bringing attending the customers, the cheery atmosphere is a bit contagious.

You see that your friends and Diane are already here, Eli sounded a bit annoyed when you told her Diane was coming but she didn’t turn you down. Gareth is currently enjoying some tacos and an ice-cold beer, his Beedrill Drillbreaker buzzes around him while Sandrider the Trapinch and Bugman the Wimpod hand onto his shoulder, on her head rests a Larvesta you hadn’t seen before. Despite his clothing seemingly partially burned he looks really pleased with himself right now.

Eli and Diane are sitting across the table, eyes fiercely locked into one another as they compete to see who can handle the hottest sauce that the restaurant can offer, they are both sweating, their faces flustered and eyes red irritated by the sheer hotness of the food. The first one to drink the ice-cold water that’s between the two loses.

Their Pokémon are chilling together talking about their latest adventures while sharing a bowl of tortilla chips with various dipping sauces, there's also a new member in Eli's team, a Salazzle. Despite their trainer’s rivalry, Diane and Eli's mons seem to get along swimmingly.

Noticing the new addition to Gareth and Eli’s team you decide to use this chance to introduce Shinji and get to know the new members of their team, maybe one of them would be willing to give him a home.

After painful minutes of filling her gullet with tacos drowned in the spiciest of salsas, Eli finally concedes and downs as much water as she cans. “That’s three to one this week! You owe me a soda, loser!” Diane proudly exclaims practically jumping out of her seat in excitement “Enjoy it while you can! I’m winning our next competition!”

After Eli’s and Diane’s pointless competition came to halt after the older bounty hunter bested your girlfriend? Is that what she is now? Let’s not worry about that right now. You asked about their new mons. They were also curious about your little sad fluffball, so introductions are in order.

Gareth and Eli meet their new teammates in the same place, the two trainers undertook some bounty hunting requests. A group of Salazzle all evolved at the same time and started waging turf wars between one another, the conflict got out of hand and ended up putting in danger the other Pokémon in the area. Eli dealt with the threat of the poisonous fire lizards while Gareth helped out a group of endangered Larvesta who got caught in the conflict.

[Eli]: Since she was the baddest bitch of the bunch I recruited her to my team after some she almost trashed our asses. Get in here “Tomie,” say hi to these nerds.

The Salazzle approaches the table oozing confidence and haughtiness. She snaps her fingers and Tremor the Krokorok comes running bringing a seat for her. “Hohoho, I’m sorry to inform you but the BEST of all Pokémon just paired up with the BEST of all trainers. So don’t feel too bad after we become champions, it’s inevitable” The Salazzle starts to cackle in a strange hissing fashion, her trainer soon follows with her trademark coarse laugh, they seem to get along well.

[Gareth]: Well, this little guy is Solaire, champion of the sun, fearless leader, and friend for life. He saved our bacon back at the volcano, helped us fend off like a dozen of crazy Salandit. After the battle he just tagged alone so now we ride together.

The rest of Gareth's team jump excitedly at the signal of the Larvesta, they get on the table and take position with Solaire at the center, Bugman the Wimpod, and Sandrider the Trapinch at the sides. The three of them do a series of fast, dramatic poses using their little appendages before Solaire makes his horn glows and produces a small flame behind the trio simulating an explosion, from it Drillbreaker emerges rising his mighty stinger to the sky.

[Gareth]: Honestly, I’d die for these dudes.

After getting to know the new mons you introduce Shinji, you call him over, he’s currently slumping on the floor, the psychic mon slowly starts to float to your location and then unceremoniously drops on the table, he rolls over to face your friends.

[Shinji]: Hello I guess

[Eli]: Why does the furball look so sad?

[Percy]: Oh, he’s just been through some stuff we are working on it.

[Diane]: He was piloting an ancient killer robot guarding a survival bunker deep into the ruins and tried to kill us via a self-destruct

[Eli]: Man, you already starting with your kooky conspiracy shit again?

[Percy]: Nah, she’s for real this time, I can vouch for it.

[Eli]: Dude, you really need to take me out with you sometime, you get into some real crazy shit.

[Diane]: Why do you believe him but not me?

[Eli]: So you gonna train the mini kamikaze?

[Percy]: I’m not sure if that’s what he wants. We are looking for a new home for him. Do any of you want to help him out?

[Eli]: Sorry man, a psychic type like him would be hella convenient but I wanted to keep the last spot on my team open and I don’t know if he’d be able to roll with us, my crew is kinda rough.

While he’ll probably lighten up a bit hanging out with Gareth’s team maybe Kali is the right option for him, if she’s been looking for an Espurr chances are she took her time to learn how to take care of one, she’s not one to half-ass things.

Kali’s team seems to be doing pretty well. While she has made some serious mistakes in the past she’s been doing better as a trainer, it may be time to have some trust in her. That being said, if she starts reverting to her old ways and mistreats him, you’ll take him back without a second thought.

The rest of the night goes pretty well. Shinji seems a bit less miserable after hearing the news and eating some tasty snacks, he’s not really happy but he doesn’t seem as mopey. Loudred and Gareth’s team do their best to integrate him with the other mons, he’s not very talkative but at the very least he’s not slumping on the floor anymore.

Everyone seems to get into high spirits at your table, Gareth is feeling great after he and his team were able to fend off the horde of Salandit, he’s doing some serious progress as a trainer. “The next Gym will be our big break, I’m feeling it! It’s gonna be our first badge!”. You and your friends start to exchange stories over some great food, Gareth with his small victories, Eli and Diane trying to one-upmanship each other with their bounty hunting misadventures, and your strange expeditions in the ruins. The mood’s great, everyone is having a good time, Diane, in particular, seems to really enjoy the company of your friends, she was a bit apprehensive at first but is quick to join in. As it gets later and the conversation goes on Eli asks Diane something regarding the day they met.

[Eli]: Hey’ I’ve been curious. Why were you so interested in the Arsonist when I trashed your ass back at Ibarra?

[Eli]: I mean, it’s not like the bounty on him was great and he was just starting to become a big deal.

[Eli]: Were you like one of those crazy fans or sumthin? Like those chicks that are really into serial killers?

[Diane]: No, I’m not a “fan”.
She says, almost offended by the claim.

[Diane]: I wanted to help him.

[Diane]: He is… he used to be a friend.

The mood turns somber the moment the Arsonist is brought up, Diane is visibly uncomfortable with the subject, she suddenly becomes stiff and guarded.

Seeing how tense Diane is getting you try to sway the conversation in another direction you stumble around trying to find something to talk to before asking her about Rampardos, Eli tries to keep asking but Gareth who caught wind of what’s going on nudges her discreetly.
It’s rare to see extinct Pokémon around, you can get them from specialized breeders but they are quite pricey and aren’t really popular outside of fossil aficionados.
Oh, “Ram-ram? I actually caught him!

She tells you that some months ago she alongside a group of bounty hunters were contracted by a private company that flew them to an undisclosed location to deal with some escaped Pokémon. The place was an Island somewhere near Aztlan filled with all sorts of revived, extinct Pokémon, there was a giant research facility in the center of the island, but they weren’t allowed near it. Whoever hired them made sure to keep them in the dark as much as possible, they never learn the name of their employer nor which company hired them, but Diane has her suspicions.

[Eli]: Yeah, I’m callin bull. That’s just the plot of Jurassic Park.

[Diane]: NO! I swear it’s real! I went there! It was full of wild extinct mons! I tried to take pictures, but the guards confiscated my phone. But I saw it! It’s real!

[Eli]: Yeah, like the time you said there were UFOs at Lacrismosa bay and we spent hours chasing a pimped-out Magnezone of some Unovan tourist.

[Diane]: I accept that I may have been a little misguided that one time, but this is for real!

You get Eli to back down a bit to hear what Diane had to say, while she’s not sure where it’s located, she guesses the island is probably located on the northeast coast of Aztlan. As your group argues about themselves if “Fossil Island” is the real deal or just another of Diane’s ridiculous claim things get lively once more, Eli remains skeptical but Gareth seems to have bought the bounty hunter explanation.

It’s getting pretty late now. You pack things up and get ready to leave the restaurant after everyone pays their bills.

“Thanks, Percival, I had a great time. See ya later.” Diane tells you with a genuine smile, seems like she really needed to spend some time with other people.

[Eli]: Hey, don’t get so chummy, you and me still got beef.
[Diane]: Of course, I’m just playing nice for the time being, but next time I see you I want a rematch! Prepare to taste defeat!
[Eli]: In your dreams! Next time I see you consider your ass trashed!

The two trainers seem more than ready to throw down but their respective teams separate them breaking down the conflict, seems like they just want to relax for the night. Tremor carries Eli's off on his shoulder while Diane's Manectric pushes her back. It's getting pretty late, you should...

You decide to call Kali to tell her about Shinji “Oh, that’s actually perfect timing! I’ll meet you there, just give me a minute…”

Before you go you ask Eli if she wants to bunk it at the local hostel with you. “Aight man, I’ll be waiting for you there” The girl says in an enthusiastic tone, seemingly pleased with the idea of spending some time with you. You consider inviting Gareth as well, but he tells you that hell’ be slumming it at the Poké-center “Take care bro, oh yeah, I got something to tell you regarding Kadabra but we’ll get to it tomorrow, peace” the young man and his mons go on their way to rest alongside the other broke trainers and occasional homeless youth.

….

You arrive at the location you and Kali decided to meet, a small park near the hostel. It doesn’t take her long to arrive. She’s being accompanied by her team and all of them seem pretty tired. Her Prinplup has turned into a full-fledged Empoleon, despite her regal appearance she excitedly hurries to trap your entire team in a hug, Houndour tries to escape but her grip is too strong as she lifts the five Pokémon and gives them a little twirl before putting them down without breaking a sweat.

Alongside a tired-looking Kali and exhausted Arcanine tries to maintain the order with his teammate but is ignored by everyone except Empoleon and Kali who pat him on the back for his efforts, a Tsareena is on top of the fire canine using him as a means of transport. She sits maintaining a perfect pose with her legs crossed, she only takes a mere gander at you and your team before scoffing with an air of superiority. Kali’s Empoleon tells her new teammate to not be so cold, but the Grass Type tells her that they need to prove themselves worthy of her attention first. Kali’s Haunter uses his disembodied hands to pick Prince on the back and to get his attention “You are it” says the playful ghost type as the two mons initiate a game of tag.

[Houndour]: So, you have to deal with this shit too?

[Arcanine]: Yeah, this is tougher than battling.

[Houndour]: I get you

From what you overheard from Empoleon’s chatter with Loudred, Kali and Jeanne got tangled up in an exorcism that went south and had to deal with a group of rowdy ghost types possessing household appliances. Thankfully Jeanne managed to get the situation under control.

Kali who seems a bit disheveled takes a sigh, looks at you, and then does something you didn’t expect. She smiles, ever so slightly.

[Kali]: Hello Percival.

You return the smile and greet her casually, trying to be nice, it seems like she had quite the day.

[Kali]: What are you smiling at asshole?

[Percy]: Hey you started it.

[Kali]: (Chuckling) I guess I did.

The two of you sit down near a park bench to talk, she’s being surprisingly amicable today, or at least not as hostile as usual. Still, you find yourself troubled trying to make some conversation.

[Percy]: So…rough day as well?

[Kali]: Eh, I’ve had worse.

She tells you how she and Jeanne got dragged into some exorcism business after some guy complained that he was still being haunted even after Jeanne and the priest helped him out some time ago. They ended up fighting a dozen of wild Rotom and her newest team member didn’t make things easier.


[Kali]: … and then, when he was just about to pay us for dealing with that ghost shit, you know what Jeanne did?

[Kali]:She told him it was on the house since it “wasn’t much of a biggie”. No biggie? I almost drowned inside of a living washing machine!

[Kali]: I gotta say, she’s really competent dealing with those Ghost types, kind of bizarre really.

[Percy]: Huh, I didn’t expect. Wait, are you using me to vent now?

[Kali]: I’ve been doing that this whole time Percival, c’mon light up.

You ask further about the new member of her team. Kali tells you that after her battle on the Water Type Gym she realized that her team would benefit from having a Grass-type to get a Fire/Water/Grass core going, before leaving Lacrimosa she went looking for a new mon, she found her in the wild thoroughly beating and humiliating some more inexperienced trainers, Arcanine managed to take her down and she caught her. “She is a bit of a handful refusing to take orders at times, but she seems content training and battling to get stronger and Arcanine has been a huge help keeping her under control”. The Fire-type perks up and wags his tail the moment he hears his trainer complimenting him, but his excitement is cut short as Tsareena digs her heels onto his sides.

[Arcanine]: Can you get off of me? I already apologized for all the Fire Blasts.

[Tsarenna]: We are still a long way to be even, mutt.

[Arcanine]: Goddamit.
The fire type starts to growl as his patience is tested by the sadistic grass type but his trainers calm him down.

[Kali]:I know you are upset, just hang in there a little longer, please.

[Kali]: Alright, ride’s over. Get down.
She says to the Grass-type in a firm authoritative tone. The Tsareena seems annoyed at Kali but she complies anyways. “I’ll be in my ball, call me if there’s anyone worthy of being crushed by me”

After that, you introduce her to Shinji and explain how you meet and how he’s in need of a home and some emotional support. He stares at Kali quizzically with his thousand years stare, she slowly approaches him, she uses her weak psychic powers to make a couple of rocks float near him, he seems a bit puzzled but then he imitates her, Shinji stares at her with intensity and Kali just smiles, seems like they reached some form of understanding.

[Percy]: So, why an Espurr?

[Kali]: Well, I planned on challenging the Fighting Type gym next and a support type Pokémon like him would be a good addition to my team.

[Kali]: Also I want to see if he could help me understood more of my “weird psychic shit”.

[Percy]: Yeah, but why an Espurr specifically?

[Kali]: I don’t have to explain everything to you!

[Kali]: I just think they are cute! My sister and I used to have plushies of them, she also really likes them.

[Kali]: Maybe he could be a good friend for her once this is over, to help her get better.

[Kali]: Hey, you are really trusting me with this?

[Percy]: Yeah, your team seems to be doing pretty good. I guessed you were worth a shot.

[Percy]: I just want the best for Shinji here. The moment I see something sketchy I’m taking him back and calling the Poké-cops on you.

[Kali]: Alright, I swear he’ll be okay. Hey, do you want to make this an “official trade”? I’m in a situation here.

Kali tells you that a certain someone sent her a Froakie with his hidden ability “Protean”, she asked for one to a “contact” but “She sent me a Piplup instead because SHE THOUGHT my team needed to be cuter”.

[Kali]: Well, I already raised my Empoleon, she’s a good team member and I’ve grown accustomed to fighting together. Don’t worry, if you don’t want to raise it there’s a lot of trainers interested in him.

[Kali]: Also, do you want this? I guessed a Pokémaniac like you would get a kick out of it.

She shows you a Jaw Fossil in pristine condition, it could be used to revive a Tyrunt. Her contact also sent it to her to promote “That stupid dino island she’s been working on”, Kali is not really interested in Fossils and doesn’t want anything to do with her “contact” outside the absolutely necessary.

[Percy]: This is a real tough decision, in one hand a Water Type mon would certainly come in handy and a Froakie with its Hidden Ability is not something you see every day. But Tyrantrum is just really damn cool. To raise a Pokémon displaced from its original time, a true scientific miracle, even if I don’t revive it fossils are just so damn cool. And I can take both? This is just too good to be true, but this is Kali we are talking about I’m sure she’ll try to use this to take advantage of me in the future. Ugh, I don’t want to feel indebted to her but I really really want both…

[Kali]: You are thinking out loud.

Kali hands you the Jaw Fossil and the Pokéball containing the Froakie, you let him out to meet your new team member. Kali warns you that he’s a little intense.

[Froakie]: So, you are my new trainer? Huh. Not impressed but you shall be sufficient.
[Froakie]: Just point me in the right direction and I shall eliminate your targets most efficiently.
[Froakie]: I must warn you, I’m not here to make friends. I live and die for the thrill and glory of battle.
[Froakie]: So, tell the other not to get in my way. Nothing personal.

[Loudred]: Alright, welcome to the team! Let’s get along!

Froakie gives her a cold shoulder, but this doesn’t seem to discourage Loudred who proceeds to introduce everyone. Kali wasn’t lying he’s quite intense.

You ask Kali if she wants to share TMs between your teams to learn some new moves, she entertains the idea since they are reusable but says that she might do it on another occasion. She’s running a bit late, she has to check on Jeanne to see if she hasn’t attempted to break the Arsonist out of prison yet.

Kali and her team prepare to leave, Empoleon scoops up Shinji the Espurr and carries him over her shoulder while giving him a warm welcome to the team, Shinji turns back to look at you, he waves you goodbye and thanks you for helping him find a new home, the little furball didn’t look so sad anymore.

[Kali]: Later Percival.

You walk back to the hostel with your team. You see Eli waiting for you in the small lobby, she’s currently in the middle of a phone call and she sounds a bit exasperated. “Hey, I told you I’ll send you the cash tomorrow aight? So stop bothering Dad! He’s got better stuff to do…Yeah, yeah…Take care” the girl hangs up seemingly frustrated but her face lights up the moment she sees you. “Hey, weirdo! You kept me waiting!”

The place is small but cozy and it’s not brimming with trainers and tourists as other hostels may be right now, Gareth did a good job scouting for places to sleep. The manager of the hostel is a stout, friendly-looking man who is accompanied by a Makuhita.

You paid the extra to get a room for yourselves, you are sure to rest better that way, a little privacy comes a long way. While you are handing out the cash to the owner the man tells you in a low voice. “Oh, is someone getting lucky tonight?” he asks in a suggestive “Eh?” you respond confused. “It’s okay son, just try to not be too loud, there are other guests in here” You finally get what the old man is implying, and the sudden realization hits you like a brick to the face.

You look at Eli and her new team member and your mind starts to wander. “Poisonous passion in a hot night” a film you saw for, “research purposes” where a wayward trainer who owns a Salazzle asks for shelter from the rain. Since her clothes got all wet, she changes into a tight leather Salazzle suit and then proceeds to get freakier than a Salazzle in the wild Your dirty thoughts are cut short as Eli slaps you on the back and tells you to get your ass moving.

You make your way to the room. The place is pretty neat for being so cheap. You are currently sitting alongside Eli on one of the Bunk beds while your mons all argue who gets to sleep on a bed and who gets the floor.

[Eli]: Dude, you look pretty done, you aight?
[Percy]: Yeah, I just did a lot of stuff today I’m kind of wiped out.
[Eli]: Very well then. C’mon here, nerd.

Eli gives you an inviting look and pats her thighs, you don’t really understand what she meant until she takes you by the shoulder and shoves your head in her thighs giving you a surprise “lap pillow” holy shit, these things are really comfortable, better than any pillow by miles

[Percy]: Wait! Why are you doing this?
[Eli]: Dude, you’ve been eyeing my thighs from day one. Your gaze gets kinda intense.
[Percy]: I-I- DON’T- I MEAN. NOT DAY ONE, MAYBE L-LIKE
[Eli]: It’s cool, I’m flattered really.
[Percy]: …Yeah, they looked really comfy. They ARE really comfy.

She starts to run her fingers through your long unkempt hair, scratching your head so gently you nearly fall asleep, without realizing you get so comfortable you start to growl like a Sentret which prompts Eli to laugh and keep scratching you searching for your weak points, this goes on for a while as you keep growling.

Kali's definitely growing on us, I'd say, and we're properly starting to live up to our promise to C.G. Orizaba. She'll also treat Shinji right, though her party's personalities might be more of an issue for Shinji. He'll probably get used to it, though.

Diane is, indeed, a bit dorky, but honestly far more competent and far closer to the mark you would assume for a conspiracy nut. I think she's kinda cool, anyways.

Froakie will come around in time, but it's good to see that he'll at least be cooperative in battle and such. For some reason I want to see how he'll interact with Mimikyu.

Yeah, they're very similar in that regard. The big difference is that Mimikyu's loyalty seems to come from his regard from us (as seen with his frequent attempts to keep us out of stupid situations and how he would never leave us despite how much we make him worry), while it seems to be purely business on Froakie's end - he's here to do his part of the job (battling) and he'll do it to the best of his ability, but he isn't going to shift from his lane easily. Seems like it'll make for an interesting dynamic.

“Whose team leader anyways’”/ A discussion between mons.

In the dark of the night, inside a hostel room, a group of mons gets ready to rest, their trainers just went to sleep after making out for a long while on one of the beds. It was a bit awkward, but they were really in the mood and nobody dared interrupt the hormonal pair of teens, Loudred kept her eyes closed, she got flustered pretty quick. After a long discussion, the mons of both teams finally settled on who gets the remaining beds of the hostel room.

[Houndour]: Alright, Loudred, Vulpix, Prince, Mimikyu you guys can take the remaining bed. I’ll sleep on the floor.

[Vulpix]: I can sleep with you Houndy.

[Houndour]: No

[Houndour]: And Mimikyu make sure to get some sleep, don’t stay up all night watching over Partner.

Houndour notices Froakie still reclining against the wall observing everyone with a glare, he looks like a pain in the ass to deal with it but at the very least he has kept to himself, for the time being, he approaches the water type to give him a heads up.

[Houndour]: Hey, you better get some rest, we usually train in the mornings so you gotta be ready.

[Houndour]: There’s still space on the bed if you don’t mind the crowd.

[Froakie]: I don’t have to listen to you, the Human is the one calling the shots.
Froakie retorts, challenging the authority of his senior.

[Vulpix]: Nuh-huh. You have to. He’s the team leader.

[Loudred]: Yup, Houndour is kind of the team leader

[Froakie]: …That’s the Trainer’s job?

[Houndour]: Yeah, I’m just helping my partner to keep things running smoothly. I’m no leader.

[Mimikyu]: That’s right! Master’s orders are absolute!

[Froakie]: Yes. The humans call the moves used in battle. He chooses who gets to fight and when…

[Loudred] but Percy is more like a friend and a coach? He’s always looking out for us, but he doesn’t really tell us to stop doing things unless it’s absolutely necessary. Houndour is usually the one maintaining the order.

[Froakie]: Then why is he the leader? Is he the strongest among you weaklings?

[Froakie]: …If I prove that I’m stronger, would I be the LEADER?

Froakie glares daggers at Houndour, measuring his potential target, if he were to prove his obvious superiority they’ll fear him enough to leave him alone, the type matchup is in his favor and he’s not afraid to use any methods to make his opponent submit. First, a “Smokescreen” for a surprise attack, “Quick Attack” to his hind legs, try to break the bone, crawl onto his back and use “Bubble” to cover his head, drowning him until he admits defeat.

[Vulpix]: Nah, it’s too boring. I got better things to do.

[Loudred]: Bro Mimikyu is Percy’s personal bodyguard. But big bro Houndour is always on the lookout for any dangers to us. He makes sure we don’t get into much trouble, and he is the first one to question Percy’s judgment on things if something doesn’t sit right with him or us.

[Loudred]: Also, Percy trusted him to look out for lil bro Prince which is a pretty big task.

[Prince]: Hmm. I’d say Pa and Houndour are co-leaders. They are partners after all.

[Mimikyu]: No! Master is Master! Houndour is just a helpful addition to HIS team.

[Loudred]: Yeah, co-leader sounds about right.

[Vulpix]: I dunno, I get more of a Leader vibe from Houndour than Trainer.

[Loudred]: And Prince is a prince but he’s still not ready to assume the throne.

[Prince]: Yeah, that’s another can of worm I’m not ready to deal with.

[Froakie]: ... A prince of what?

[Loudred]: Oh, a secret Pokémon kingdom hidden throughout a city. His father is a GIANT angry Electivire and also a science experiment thingie? Maybe that’s why Prince can talk like a human?

[Froakie]:…

[Froakie]: I’m going to sleep. Don’t bother me.

Froakie who has grown exasperated with his new teammates returns to his Pokéball. Are they messing with him? What are these mind games? He mulls this over for a while.

[Houndour]: You all should follow his example, we got stuff to do tomorrow.

The discussion is over with an agreement on Houndour’s role on the team, he doesn’t like being called a leader since he’s doesn’t feel ready to lead a pack but still, he can’t help but feel a great amount of pride when his teammates tell him how they see him. He stops for a moment and feels like he made the right decision that day he decided to follow you on your journey as equals.

He expects you to not betray this agreement and prove to him that there are decent humans amongst trainers, so far, you’ve done well. He looks at you, sleeping alongside the loud, brash female you choose as your mate and he quietly murmurs “Good night, Partner”

We can at least trust her to NOT torture her mons and immediate friends? She just wants to succeed as a normal girl without letting folks find out about all the bullshit on her shoulders, and that’s pretty cool when she isn’t being a manipulative bitch. There’s almost definitely a nugget of something good worth salvaging in there.

After living who knows how much of his life in the robot under someone else’s orders, Shinji probably needs someone that can help him learn to be his own person. Kali can give him the push he needs while the rest of her team can provide support for when things get tough, with Kali’s own affection for the line hopefully mellowing things out enough for Shinji to feel loved.

Diane is absolutely a dork, but that’s probably just because she spends so much time alone with no one but her mons and those image boards and forums to keep her company. In reality she’s actually pretty cool, mostly because she has the chops to adventure on her own. She’s basically a watered down fusion of Percy, Kali, and Eli’s complementing skill sets. As for being the Arsonist’s former(?) friend though... that’s kind of worrying considering I vaguely recall her possibly being on his official shit list. But, that can wait until we’ve gone through some of our more immediate concerns.

Could be worse; he may be poorly socialized and ready to butt heads with the team, but at least he isn’t openly aggressive which is apparently a common problem with strong, well-bred pokemon. You look up to Eli’s face and realize that no one has ever looked at you like that, her gaze is fixed in yours her lips draw a slight smile that she herself hasn’t realized she’s doing. The longing, the care, and intensity of her expression, it's hard to believe those feelings are directed at you, but to be honest you feel the same way

You try to find the right words to express how are you feeling.

She silences you with a soft kiss on the lips. The softness and warmth of her body are too much. There’s a strange mix of the excitement from having her body so close and a feeling of calm and peace from her presence.

Huh, this doesn’t feel half bad. Getting some attention and recognition because of your abilities and prowess as a trainer feels pretty good. It’s a welcome change from the snide remarks and general disgust you used to receive from your peers, you are feeling pretty good about yourself right now. While you were a bit awkward at first you shake off the feeling and interact with your “fans” without a problem using what Daniel the coordinator taught you back at Lacrimosa.

It surprises how someone who barely knows you can look up to you. After giving the girls a couple of pointers on Pokémon raising and making small talk with a Marill of theirs they leave feeling elated.

Kadabra fetches Gareth who wasn’t completely in the know about the psychic mons decision. As you two explain the situation he seems to be on board with it even though he can’t hide his surprise.

“Really Kadabra? You know I’m not the best when it comes to Pokémon training” ask the incredulous young man, still not believing Kadabra. Your psychic friend nods in agreement, he’s sure of his decision. “Alright, I won’t let you two down. Welcome to the team!”
You decide to trust Gareth with one of your first friends. You hand him Kadabra’s Pokéball and as the trainer takes it into his possession Kadabra starts to emit a blinding light. In a flash Kadabra isn’t Kadabra anymore, he’s taller, his limbs longer and is now dual-wielding two of his knives.

It’s a bit painful seeing him go with another trainer but this is probably for the best, you are glad they made a connection and Gareth probably does needs his support more than you do. Still, this is not goodbye, Gareth will probably stick around for a bit longer.

The newly evolved psychic mons floats towards you and puts his hand on your shoulder most reassuringly. “Thanks Percy ”

After going to a Pokémon center to make the exchange official for Aztlan laws registering Alakazam as Gareth’s Pokémon. This is probably for the best, if you had Alakazam under your supervision you could get into legal trouble for exceeding the “6 Pokémon per trainer” carry limit.

After that you return with Eli and all the mons for your daily training session, you got a new member joining you today so it may be good to see what he’s capable of doing.
Your team gets ready for some training and sparring, they’ve known each other for a while so they are familiar with this whole drill.

Froakie hangs back keeping his distance from the rest of the team as he analyses their behavior as well the teams of both Gareth and Eli. Measuring their strength seeing who is stronger than him, who can he take on. He notices you looking at him and gets a tad annoyed. “Tch, what do you want me to do? I hope you have some serious training in mind, I’m not here to play around. ”

You decide to let Froakie spar against a member of your team on his own to see hoe approaches battles in a general one-on-one. “Very well, get ready to get them to a Pokémon center when I’m done with them,” he says in a serious tone dripping with overconfidence.
You use the Pokédex you nabbed back at the Whistling Desert to check his stats and moves, as expected from a Pokémon specially bred and prepared for combat his stats are through the roof for a mon so young.

You have suspected that Loudred is a mon that either escaped or got lost from its breeders because of her massive strength. You recall Professor Maple saying something about a project related to Loudred that was mentioned in some of the White Veil documents you stole.

You decide to deal with that later, now you gotta train. Froakie is itching for a fight, he tries to keep his cool but he seems to have been waiting for a chance like this from the moment he arrived. Now, who’s gonna fight him?

One of the seniors of your team and the one who seems to help you keep things running, respected by the others. Strong, a bit too serious, and doesn’t play around. He’ll take this match seriously.

Arguably the strongest mon on your team, she usually has to hold back her full strength when battling another Pokémon, she’s also quite resilient. She’s laid back and a bit too kind to others but if she gets pushed too hard she’ll lay down the hurt. Maybe she’ll help Froakie chill out.

The fastest in your team, complaint and eager to please. He wants everyone in your team to respect you as much as he does, he’ll have no problem beating the new recruit into shape. It could probably be a good chance to compare their speed and accuracy.

Not as strong as the others in terms of raw power but fighting her is tricky, her "confuse ray" puts her opponents in awkward situations and her psychic moves are particularly strong. She’s quite haughty and lets victories get to her head.

The youngest in your team, the little Elekid is still a bit awkward around other Pokémon but he has no trouble battling anymore. He’s pretty damn strong considering his lineage and the type disadvantage may prove to be a challenge for Froakie.

Froakie should be the one to make the call, after all, he has spent all this time sizing your team up, he probably has a vague idea of their respective strengths, also you are curious about his decision.
The water type was originally planning on challenging Houndour since the other perceive him as a figure of authority but after last night's conversation he has learned that he’s not the strongest, but Loudred is. But then there’s a good chance that the purple mon won’t take him as seriously as he’d like and he’s a bit wary about her strength, she reminds him of some of the other Pokémon in the labs, those who are really strong tend to have oddball personalities.

He’s set on battling Prince, the Vulpix seems annoying to deal with and the Mimikyu seems troublesome. Beating the nervous-looking Elekid, even with the type disadvantage should prove to be a nice warmup, depending on how quickly he beats him he may challenge another member he believes.

Froakie approaches your adopted son, pointing at him and coldly stating. “To the battlefield”. The confused Elekid replies “Me? You sure? O-okay, just let me get ready ” he grabs his little King’s rock and runs with his short legs to the improvised arena in the middle of the park you are training on.

“Let’s make this quick ” The Froakie states as he prepares to decimate his opponent.

>COLD BLOODED FROAKIE VS. PRINCE “SON OF A BEHEMOTH”

“Hey Pa, what should I do?” Prince asks you for advice feeling a bit unsure on how to tackle the situation, you tell him to use everything he has learned from his previous battles and seeing his teammates fight.

Froakie who has a serious edge with his speeds starts the battle with “Mud Sport”, he quickly spins around the battlefield drenching the earth with blasts of water to create as much mud as possible before kicking it towards Prince direction and changing his typing to be immune to any Electric moves for the remainder of the turn.

Prince uses this chance to set up his defenses with a “Light Screen”, Froakie tries to go on the offensive with a full power Water Pulse directed at him but Prince defensive measure whether the attack to be almost inconsequential as he uses “Quick Attack” to close the distance between him and the water type in one swift movement he runs trough the arena and bashes Froakie on his stomach. The strength surprises, it’s more painful than what he was expecting, knocking the air out of him for a moment.

Finding himself against the ropes the water type jumps backward and uses “Smokescreen” to hide but is buffeted by a barrage of “Swift” that follows him amidst the smoke. He tries to use “Lick” to ignore the “Light Screen” and paralyze his target, his long tongue extends at an incredible speed as hitting Prince in an arm, Froakie hopes he paralyzed him but even if he didn’t he’ll switch out with a “Substitute” and take Prince down with a surprise attack from behind, but the Frog mon can switch out, his tongue is being firmly held in place by Prince.

The little yellow egg uses Shock Wave directly unto its tongue bypassing the effect of the “Mudsport”, a shocked Froakie can barely react as he gets pulled toward Prince by the tongue before he gets decked with devastating “Fire Punch” to the face, his natural resistance to Fire undone by his Protean ability and use of a ghost type move.

Froakie lays unconscious on the ground mumbling things about “True Strength” and “Friends make you weak”, Loudred and Prince go to fetch some water to splash him with. After he gets soaked Froakie bolts up suddenly, seeming dazed and confused, he tries too tough it up but he’s groaning in pain as he tries to get up from the ground, his tongue hangs out from the side of his mouth still numb from being shocked.

Prince seems preoccupied with roughing his newest teammate too badly.

You ask the little Electric type if he learn move typings and how Protean works since he seemed to know during the battle. “I’ve been trying to learn more about battles and other Pokémon” he responds modestly, a bit flustered by your praise, you are really proud of Prince and you let him know it. “Thanks Pa, I just want to be knowledgeable like you”

“You… ” Froakie points at Prince, frustrated by his defeat

[Froakie]: This is not going to end like this. I’ll catch up to you in no time.

You approach Froakie with a Cheri berry on hand and offer him it for his numb tongue. He glares at you for a bit, almost offended before snatching it out of your hands and eating it. “You okay? Want to keep training?” you ask the small Water Type still on the floor.

“Of course I will.“ He tells you between pants, his speech slurred since he can’t get his tongue inside his mouth, he tries to get up by himself but after some pained grunts, he decides to rest for a bit. “Just give me a minute”. Surprisingly Froakie manages to shake off that beatdown and he integrates with the others in their training his stamina is quite something. He’s being a bit more cautious but still nonetheless cold to them

You are sure he’ll turn around, but it’ll probably take him some time.

With that out of the way, your usual training resumes. You’ll probably head up to High Alva city next, where the fighting type gym is, not to mention you’ll have to deal with the Vespiqueen in Adage Village one of these days, Kali is one badge ahead of you and both Eli and Gareth’s team are getting stronger each day, this means you need to improve as well.

Damn, seems like you got a pretty packed schedule for their training, it'll probably take them a couple of days to get it down.

You waste no time and start with each of their respective training regimens for the rest of the training session. They still got ways to go, maybe they'll benefit by focusing your attention in one mon at a time, get some one-on-one training sessions.

Once the training is over you take a small break with your team and ask the other trainers what they got planned for the day. Eli is going to fight some local trainers to get some more battling experience and win some money. “I could always use more dosh” and Gareth is going to spend some quality time with the White Veil Employee he met a while ago "Lydia".

Prince who seems a tad worried about his new teammate tugs your shirt to get your attention. "Hey pa, is he gonna be okay? Froakie looked really pissed" he glances at Froakie who is still glaring at the small egg boy from time to time.

“That sounds a bit troublesome, but I believe it’s better than he plainly ignoring the rest of the team” Prince responds glancing at the angry frog who’s mumbling about his revenge.

“Maybe, with enough time, he'll warm up to you, and the rest of us. Maybe he won't, maybe that's just his personality and he won't really get along with anybody. And that's okay too, so long as he behaves. What's important is that you didn't do anything wrong and that he's still your teammate.” You try to ease his worries in a supportive manner, imitating your own father giving you advice.

“Honestly it sounds complicated, It’d be easier not getting involved with him too much, but I feel like I should do something as his teammate“ The little mon seems to feel a bit responsible for his teammate as his immediate senior.

“How do you think you should deal with him, Prince? Settling personnel disputes and keeping people both happy and in-line are things you'll have to deal with if you become king someday.” Prince seems a bit unsure when you mention his obligations as a future king but takes your words into consideration.

What do you think is the best way to approach Froakie? As a friend, as a rival, as a superior? It's your call, little guy.” You put your trust in Prince being able to solve this conundrum by himself, he ponders about the issue for a moment before getting his thoughts in order.

“I’m still not sure if I want to be a king but I want our team to work! I hope we could be friends but as long as we can work together, I think that’s enough, communication is key so at the very least I’d like him to take us into consideration, I’ll try to use this rival thing for that” He explains to you,

Feeling proud of your young adopted Poké-son you give him a reassuring pat on the back and ruffle his fur a bit until static starts to fly off.

After resting for a moment, you make your way to Dr. Aspen labs, a busy-looking employee directs you to the Doc, she’s been waiting for you all morning. She invites you to see the place

Even though it doesn’t seem to have many people the place is lively with almost every researcher and worker hurriedly making their way through the premises as they hurry to compensate for their lack of manpower, what this place isn’t lacking is on Pokémon, a great deal of them roam freely through the premises while other, particularly the more rowdy, violent or unstable seem to remain in their room and only go out accompanied by other mons and people.

Some of the Pokémon here seem a bit skittish and untrustworthy of people others from their direct caretakers and the doc, others seem to have different forms of permanent damage to their bodies you see one of the employees helping a Dodrio get accustomed to his prosthetic leg and making the necessary adjustments to do so. Another worker alongside a Linoone tries to get an anemic-looking Buneary to eat, she’s connected to an IV drip but seems too depressed to even try to eat by herself. Seeing a great deal of Pokémon like this is depressing but it is comforting to see the workers around the lab try so hard to get them better.

The Doc apologizes for the state of the lab, she shows you the way to the room where she wanted to conduct some tests in Prince, you don’t have much opportunity to make conversation as the researcher checks on as many Pokémon she can on the way there. “My apologies Percival, we have a lot of work as you can see”

Inquiring about her argument with the White Veil employee seems to light up something the level-headed professor.

[Dr. Aspen]: Oh, I’m sorry for such an embarrassing display.
[Dr. Aspen]: I used to work with them, like most people interested in Pokémon research that’s where I got my start
[Dr. Aspen]: I left after I learned about their more “controversial” research, I just couldn’t stay there
[Dr. Aspen]: I tried denouncing their activities, their experimenting without regard of Pokémon’s wellbeing.
[Dr. Aspen]: But my complaints went unheard, they got the backing of the government, they are one of the backbones of Aztlan’s economy after all.
[Dr. Aspen]: I’ve been collecting enough proof of their actions so I can have a strong enough case against them,
[Dr. Aspen]: And now they want me back as if they could shut me up me with money.
[Dr. Aspen]: They are truly a vile group, with no regard for morals, Pokémon, nor people.

The professor doesn't make any attempt to hide her hatred for White Veil labs, even with their cold and calm demeanor every word she uses to refer to them is dripping with vitriol and resentment.


[Percy]: Are you sure you want to help us through? I don’t know if Professor Maple warned you but we are threading in some dangerous territory.


[Dr. Aspen]: I know this could turn into a dire situation, but I believe it will be worth the risk if we can take them down a peg and expose them for who they are, make them accountable for their sins.
[Dr. Aspen]: As an Elite 4, I’m certain they’ll have more than enough trouble taking me down.
[Dr. Aspen]: I should be the one asking you, why are you risking yourself for this? You are a young trainer with a promising future ahead of you from what I’ve heard. Why do you involve yourself with White Veil?
