(Trying again, with better rules this time)

A new world forms, as the first organisms emerge...
The chaotic creation of this new world may bring some species to extinction, while others to prosper over their downfall. Will your species thrive the most?

> Creating a species
Draw your species in Paint (or whichever simple doodling program) and post it in your comment.
Tell us something about the function of your species, and decide where it starts on the map.
OP will then stat your species accordingly and give you a starting sheet.

> Actions
Each turn you can do 1 of 2 actions
> Expand your species
Roll 1d3+1, the score is the maximum amount of tiles your species can expand to. Choose a tile with your species on the map and 3 adjacent tiles nearby. Your species will then expand from this tile to those adjacent tiles.

> Evolve your species
Roll 1d100

Choose a species on a tile that you want to evolve, then choose 1 attribute to improve of the 6 base attribute: Environment, Size, Sensors, Camouflage, Digestion, Toxic.
according to your fluff and score, your species will also receive a special evolution trait that will change their playstyle and help them.

And That's about it. The winner is whoever has the most thriving species on the map when it gets filled by species.

More nitty bitty rules are in the picture.

Wallnut species.
Vegetal/animal Hybrid. Grow a big leaf for photosynthesis and using it as sail to move around. Body is inside a hard, buoyant wallnut. The wallnut can feed with organic scraps. Once it get enough energies, leaf break out of the shell, fly around, a new body will grow from it. Previous body will grow a new leaf from it's genetical material and other from spores of an other species member.
Species got around 20 gender to ensure compatible reproduction between 2 strangers (like Schizophyllum commune)

Start somewhere on ocean, with high luminosity so around equator i guess

Heyo!
You get another expansion which you still didn't use with your first evolution of species.
Whenever you expand, you also get to expand 1 tile with each previous evolutions. So you get to expand 1 tile more with any of your thriving G1 sprangulusies

Oh, shit, the original Sprangulus seems to love the warmer waters, okay, the original Sprangulus from the left tile to the Sprangulus G2 will expand one tile up into Wallnut territory, and then take the three ocean tiles to the left of it.

That make sense?

The new ringed evolution begins spreading south as well, where it first encounters the Twiskies, just from afar... Yet they already begin to develop a taste for one another.

>>4927354

The Beakwurm expands, yet wherever they go the Geeto follows. Trails of migrating beakwurms is followed by a trail of the corpses of those who did not make it to new lands. The Beakwurms are completely under a lockdown, it is time to either migrate or evolve in order to deal with the Geeto threat.

Roll 1d3+1 and expand to that amount of tiles from a chosen tile.

After migrating/expanding you can then also expand 1 tile with each of your previous generations anywhere on the map.

Beakwurm CR.1
The creature grew six well muscled flappers which can help it nove on land. But the first Two are the more interesting because it has one keratin claw which they use for digging. This Variant hides its fleshy bits in the hole. Hunting method of this Crawler Beakwurm is that whenever something touches its beak (which is standing outside of the burrow) grabs it and tries to drag down.

Evolving the Sprangulus G3 that shares it's tile with the other two SPrangulus Variants into the "Sprangulus Rex"

Through a need to outmatch a thriving Sprangulus Population, the Sprangulus G3 has rapidly modified itself in three ways, though some much more important then other;

-Firstly, and most importantly, it evolved it's faceplate's initial roughness into a more focused Horn like shape, allowing it to not only break and burrow into the ice of it's environment easier, but to also fend off enemy, like it's evolutionary lessers.
-Secondly, it'd thick lips have developed into more of a bony-beak like feature, presumably as it grows closer to merging with the Face-plate
-And thirdly, as movement is essential to survival, it appears that the Sprangulus Rex has begun developing small vestigial flaps across it's side, the use for these will presumably be in movement, but at this time they appear to be only usable as a mating sign (i.e. Big flaps = Breed with)

Increase Digestion by 1, and, sorry if it's a bit confusing, but focus the ability on the Horn if possible, thanks, and sorry for the wait

Getting +1 thriving on all rolls is crazy good, it would require you to roll a nat 100. I can only give such a bonus intact with some other major disadvantage, and i think the trait i gave you is even better for your situation, since you are almost going to get stuck by your own species soon and that trait frees you to expand without worrying about that.

These species are now able to use their hardened skull and spiraling horn in order to burrow into the ice and peck out the nutrients hidden inside. The horn however weighs on the creature, and never stops growing. They often die due to the burden of carrying it.
IG: Advantage for thriving on arctic tiles, and additional advantage for fending off enemies by ignoring one "fighting" trait the enemy has. However, they get a disadvantage on any other type of tile, and go extinct instantly if they are not the thriving species on a tile at the end of a turn.

What can I say, purple rules!

>>4927831
> evolve to expand into water
> increase size (gotta be big)
> new tier of evolution: Obuvip
The Obupob’s supremacy across the plains is thwarted by creatures in the east- and so it is that this naturally stubborn creature grows ever more persistent! The Obupob grows into the Obuvip, sprouting new, lower tentacles to better grasp the ocean floor as well as growing in size to better sustain the great pressure of the depths.

The bunch of balls in the drawing is their new organ: the lungs of the Obuvip are changed, multiplying as to better store air between trips from the surface to the depths (for while the purple creatures have walked into the sea, theirs is but a pit-stop, not a full transfer. Air is still a necessity)

> how often is the quest updated?
>>
>>4928563
Alright, I'll aim for a trait that avoids the Extinction event at least, maybe by upgrading the main body to survive on land, even if only for a bit, you know, surface, dig ice-hole for den, go underwater to hunt, basically become Yeti-Frog-Moles who live like Penguins.

Basically develop a set of instincts that mitigate the growth of the horn, like rodents tend to do with their teeth, or burrowing mammals with their claws, hopefully we don't break the Ice-sheet while doing that, or we actually take the plunge and head into Warmer waters

The Sprangulus Rex on The Bottom Antarctic tile will evolve to the SPrangulus Rex G2

The Sprangulus Rex eventually figured out that it's larger kin were able to avoid the issue of the overgrowth of their horn via two methods, the first being it's habit to get into more situations where the horn had to be used, either through combat or just as a digging tool, the second being it's larger shape meant that more of the necessary nutrients for growth were heading to the main body as opposed to said Horn.

This lead to the birth of the Sprangulus Rex G2, the larger, more aggressive variant that has relegated most of it's nutrient feed to it's extremeties, turning their initial skin flaps into full on fins, elongating it's tail, and developing a stabilising horn that grows just under the Sprangulus Rex's initial horn, this Stabilising Horn acts as a counterbalance for the first, while unfortunately limiting the growth of both horns, it has lead to a more stable biology. With any luck

Increase Size by 1, focus trait on the secondary "Stabilising Horn" please

Alright, gonna Expand the Sprangulus Rex G2
>>
>>4930590
They are not thriving within their tile so you cant expand with them. the normal non-rex G2 are thriving there.
The reason being you Rex G2's are size 3, and they can't eat the other sprangulus since they are only size 1 which gives them another camouflage point against the Rexes.
To Thrive with the G2 Rexes you'll have to migrate it into a tile with a size 2 species they can eat, or expand with a size G2 species into their tile (for example with the G1 Rex)
>>
>>4930590
>>4930592
Okay, this is gonna be annoying, but okay
Movements are as follows
>Sprangulus Rex G2
-They'll migrate 2 tiles upward, using their thriving Ocean advantage to supplant the Sprangulus G1 species and share the tile with Bigmouth Cambria and Geetwins
>Sprangulus Rex
-The Sprangulus Rex on the Bottom East Antarctic Tile will spread to the Eastern Antarctic Tile where only a Sprangulus G3 is
>Sprangulus G3
-The Sprangulus G3 on the eastern-most ocean tile will expand to the ocean tile to the upper east of it, now sharing the tile with the Twiskies G2 and Wallnut G1
>Sprangulus G2
-The furthest west Sprangulus G2 that shares an ocean tile will expand onto the Antarctic tile to the Bottom West of it
>Sprangulus G1
-The Sprangulus G1 on the far east Ocean tile will expand to the Ocean tile currently inhabited by the Wallnut G1

Also, does being an Omnivorous species mitigate the issues of size or is diet just a non-factor?

I made it sound overcomplicated

Your sensors level is 1
The camouflage level of the species on their tile is 2 (1 from trait 1 from being 2 sizes smaller)

With sensors 1 you can't eat camouflage 2 therefor Rexes G2 aren't thriving

Basically the only way for G2 Rexes to thrive at the moment is to eat a G1 Rex.

>>4930478
Like that? (looks at pic related)
If you meant for the bloomnut to expand, it can't expand. It is not thriving and the thriving species is not of your evolutional branch so the trait doesn't work.

>>4930601
Diet will affect your traits. If you put emphasis on the way your species eat I might implement the effect via traits.
Also note that migrating to the geetwins will get them extinct by being eaten by 2 different predators, which might be not what you wanted since they are also your only food source with the G2 Rexes. Thats it for the hints by me tho ;^)
>>
>>4930478
Also you can still expand 1 tile with each of your other evolutions, so you got that part of the action still undone

That or push for a Rex Evolution that balances out the Horn's negatives while utilising the newly updated Horn as a sensor...

Fuck, this is a pickle it is, I don't wanna have to go back to Sprangulus G3, it's too far back to be of any use during the war outside of fattening it up to act as a launchpad against the Twisky's.

Hulkskies is already on the move, my only saving grace is the fact that I have Ice-tile advantage, and even then, all they need to do is move down into a couple of Ocean tiles then make an evo with Ice profficiency, then I'll be fighting a losing battle unless I hold back the Rex G2 and start building a Toxic or Sensor type out of the Sprangulus G3 to act as a suicide bomber team.
>>
>>4930617
Consider the fact that at the same time the nuts will be also evolving against the crabs, and it can't effectively fight two fronts. Not to mention skwidd start getting in the picture...
Either way its gonna be very interesting very soon.

>>4930617
Which is why I offer you a truce. You have enough to worry about, without me marching into the waters next turn and eating your dudes. All you have to do is end this ill-advised war with your treacherous ally, start expanding left, and not invade the border I marked out.

>-The furthest west Sprangulus G2 that shares an ocean tile will expand onto the Antarctic tile to the Bottom West of it

That action is invalid just noticed, the G2's on the shared ocean aren't thriving (if they are not big and on top of the tile it means its not thriving and cant expand).

AQ.3s migrate one tile to the western SHALLOWS
>>

Okay, after a little think I have these amendments to the Expansion/Migration turn
>Sprangulus Rex
-The Bottom East Antarctic tile that holds the Rex will expand to the East (Left) Antarctic tile with the Sprangulus G3.
>Sprangulus G2
-The Sprangulus G2 will expand to the Upper East Ocean Tile that has the Sprangulus G1 on it.
>Sprangulus Rex G2
-The Sprangulus Rex G2 will Migrate two tiles to the East, now resting on the same tile as the Rex and G3 as mentioned in the Rex's move.

The Sprangulus will then be the Dominant species on said tile as it will be one size greater then the Rex.
From there, my next turn will be expansion, granted I'm not screwing anything up.

These species utilize corpses as both augmentation for their bodies. They use the bloated bodies to float around the oceans and feed on the mold that eats into the corpse as a nutrient. and as nutrients.

>>
>>4930674
Was an invalid action :C
You couldn't expand. You can only expand when you are thriving. You could have migrated your species whcih i advised you to, but you weren't here to comment.

Right now its game over for the Obucip, they are on the definitive road to extinction. You can keep hopping and migrating to places in hopes to find a new home to thrive, but at this point you have no way to win. You can keep playing for the laughs tho.
>>
>>4930674
Hey Obucip player, have you ever heard of "Symbiosis?"

>>4930674
I don’t want to wipe you off the map or anything, because even if you’re in a really bad spot, that’s a huge dick move. If you want to evolve your dudes any further, and piggyback your Trait off the fact that my guys are wearing your species on their backs like anemone-crabs, feel free to do it. Maybe it might help you expand further or something.
>>
>>4930681

and if you expand to the ocean my back is open and much bigger
>>
So why isn't bloom nut thriving on its tile? I've got both photosynthesis and Plant Overlord traits?
>>
>>4930608
I tried to evolve especially so it could thrive while still eating no one, as I'm trying to do since the beginning
>>
>>4930689
I'm eating the Obus, which puts me at the top of the thriving bracket. It's:

1. Eating
2. NOT being eaten
3. Advantage/disadvantage
4. Smaller
5. Was there first.

So the eating takes precedent over the thriving traits.
>>
>>4930691
Indeed, but i'm trying to evolve enouh traits so I can thrive among people eating each other.
Turns out the game was rigged from the start
>>
>>4930698
Well there are certain rules which were always transparent to the players. Eating other species > Anything else.
Wouldn't say its rigged ,if not for the Obu you would win this war, but thats part of what makes that interesting.
You can still migrate the bloomnuts or even just cause the Obu in your tile to go extinct, that will make you instantly thrive again.
>>
>>4930698
That's a possible build, but hard to pull off at this point. It'll work if you kill all my food sources by overcrowding them, to stop me from thriving. But it'll require you to genocide your own species constantly.
>>
>>4930698
most of your traits are for expansion and self survival, not about living with predators.
evolving traits to thrive amongst people eating each other is good way, but you only got 1 of those traits at the moment. This is not enough to overhaul the rules of the game to your advantage. if you started earlier or even expand on that evo now, you'd be able to do it even better.

Anyway, if you feel the game is rigged im sorry. In my eyes Its not and everything was detailed in the rules, but I can't control how you feel.
If you still feel like playing then we are just waiting on you and cambria to update c:

> evolve: the Travelling Obu
The traveling Obu are a new evolutionary step of the Obu line that adapted to the overwhelming number of nut-like beings in the regions they dwelled in.

The Obu began to notice the weird flowers growing on the back of the Bloomnuts, but found it wasn’t to their liking.
On the contrary, the flower found the basically toxine-free Obus to be fertile ground for colonization.
And so it is that the purple beings were stuck- adaptation kicked in, of course, but in an unexpected way- the tendrils grew longer, to allow the nut to move around, while their bodies connected effectively making them one through symbiosis, allowing the two species to share the under water respiratory gland of the Obus- although with a reduced efficiency due to the greater amount of air consumed- while the two shared nutrients.
>>

Alright. So now that this turn is done, I'll queue my action before going to bed. Come on dice gods, be good to me this time...

The Chadskies that have moved onto the upper right land tile, with the volcano to its right and ocean above, have gone through slews of enemies. They've fought countless foes in their march across the continent, killing Opus, Wallnuts, and even their own brethren at one point. Anything for victory. The breed that makes it onto that tile are the SHOGUN CHADSKY, veterans who are currently responsible for the most extinctions worldwide. Their eyes have developed further during this to grant them better sensing capabilities. One might say they're shining from the horrors of war.

+Sensors

As their attempted trait, however, the Shogun Chadskies have great experience fighting and rendering their foes extinct. They've become powerful combatants, making it difficult to prey on them or defeat them in face-to-face fights. One might have trouble without camouflage, to take them by surprise.

(Basically trying to make it so that camo beating their sensors is needed to hunt them)

Is there no way I can convince you to turn on your ally, after all this time? I've done the math and looked ahead. For you to defeat me in the bottom, you need either two turns of migrations, or four of expansions to even get your G3 Rexes to me. And that won't even guarantee a victory, it'll mean you're on even ground with my critters. Not to mention my ability to instantly kill your dudes to make a food chain of myself. A mere G2 of mine is completely blocking your guys from expanding into my flock.

The left side of the arctic is completely unclaimed. You'll have better luck preying on the megamouths with further G2 Rex evos, than trying to throw your weakest links into my strongest. Or even taking those FREE, precious white tiles. Even now, the Cambria have no competition and are in 2nd place behind me, without fighting any battles. You can even see it on the Shogun sprites. Obu, Twisky, and Walnut blood has been shed in this war, but not a single drop from the Cambrias.

To end this semi-cringey rant, I'm having a lot of fun roleplaying as Genghis Khan. And that means if you truly cannot become my ally, I'll have to wipe you off the map.

A foodchain of yourself, did you forget your Chadskies trait?
If they aren't eating then they'll die, even if you render a species extinct on a tile then all you'll be doing is resigning the Chadskies you moved their to extinction too.
Don't you see, our Ouroboros only exists while there are two snakes, a solo act would simply kill itself!
>>
>>4931858
>If they aren't eating then they'll die

You misunderstood it. They get major disadvantage when not eating. However, major disadvantage and thriving are two separate mechanics. As long as I'm alone on a tile, my Hulk trait activates. I win a tile by either feasting, or killing everything else on it. The Sprangulus are nothing but food for my G2s, which feed the G3s. And anything that you can use to compete with my G2s can only be eaten by the Chads.

These species have forsaken their flappers for strong legs, which allow them to hop into new muddy lands.
IG: You can expand to land tiles that are 2 tiles away from you as if they were adjacent. In addition, gain an advantage to thrive on land tiles, yet a disadvantage to thriving on water tiles.

could the only way to beat them to be to make something completely unedible that just clogs up the tiles so he cant set up a self contained ecosystem?

I think the only way you could be of aid is by willingly feeding yourself to my Chadskies, since only they can eat your dudes. Otherwise, you could help by crowding out the black flowers at some point. I'm not super sure how you'd go about that, though. Evolving that toxicity stopped me from thriving, since I ran out of food and lost a prime tile.

Yeah sounds good. A partnership. My chadskies would feed on you, unfortunately. The ones you can ride on, however, is my Hulkskies. Feel free to latch on them and move about, I guess, as long as you don't move into any tiles with my Basic Twiskies. Might I suggest trying to migrate downwards? If you move into the sprangulus tiles, I'll be able to support you there. Nothing can eat you.

If you migrate down two tiles next turn, I'll be able to move a gen 1 Twisky to feed you, allowing you to thrive and expand on the next turn. Expanding will unlock your evolutions again. You have very few legal moves now, so it's gonna be rough. We could try claiming the arctic for you?

Right...

Okay fellas. I know you guys have an alliance, and I've been scrounging about for allies a really long time. But there's one important thing I think we need to focus on.

Nuts, Obus, Whales, Squids, and Sprangulus. it has come to my attention that a monster from another continent is moments away from landfall. If it wasn't for this ruling >>4931953 >>4931936 and Bloomnuts' move, the Geeto would be thriving right now, and we'd all already be fucked next turn. Thank you nut.

Nut, the Geeto needs ONE more digestion and the trait to crack shells (Which will come with it and let it thrive regardless of downside), and it can kill every single thing on this continent. It can eat me to thrive, and by the time you're able to muster up enough turns to eliminate me as a food source, it will have evoed the ability to eat all your nuts. It can already sense them despite the camo from size difference.

I propose a temporary truce. We're at the climax of the game anyway. Right now, Nut has managed to lock the Geeto threat in the shallows. I'm willing to completely stop any selfish expansion for the next turn and dedicate my turns to killing this thing. I'm the only one of us who can reliably chase this thing down as it tries to migrate to a point where it can thrive. If we don't stop it here, it takes over 29 tiles easily and wins the game. If we cannot contain it, our fighting is for nothing.

>>
>>4931996
Yeah. I have a bit of a plan. It'll take all of us trying to render this single creature extinct. Right now, we're safe for 1 turn because of Nut. Next turn, the only valid move that that one apocalyptic Behelit can take is migrating. There's a two-tile containment perimeter around it, with danger tiles and safe tiles. We need to chase it down and render it extinct before it gets to a tile it can thrive on, and then propagates. Otherwise, we're all dead. We literally need everyone on this.

Whales, I'm inviting you into the oceans beneath the continent. I was planning on easing it out from the Sprangulus, which I would have been able to do passively before, with no resistance. I'd like to take the risk and invite you down there, knowing full well that you could easily claim 6 of my tiles before I could even act against you.

You have one position you can freely move the nuts in using your free move. Don't conclude your turn yet, I'm begging you.

if you move down your Flownut, along with the bloomnut, which you've already done, you render the THING extinct. I'll post my working in the next post:

This right here is the two-tile containment perimeter. Blue tiles are where the Alien Blob cannot immediately thrive. Red is where he instantly thrives if he migrates next turn. And the only action he can use to move the Red is to migrate.

As you can see, there's an overwhelming amount of red tiles he can visit, which instantly causes him to thrive. And he can simply wait till we've all made our desperate moves, and then migrate to the single red danger tile. Which then lets him expand the very next turn, then evolve to a point where he can eat size 4 creatures as a size 4.

We cannot contain him, and soon he'll take this continent. He can't eat you, but it'll be a repeat of the incident with me, you, and the Obus. Except now he's the apex.

The only way to snuff him out is for you to use a completely free move to do it. Just one directly down with the blue flowers.

Alright, so I was hoping you assholes didn't notice what I was up to. Twisky, you realized and called everyone together. Good thinking. What you didn't factor in was that now you're at the top of my list and I'm going to grind your entire pathetic species into dust. I'm not going to try and change my move (I was 50/50 between migrating to nut shallows or to geetwins) even though the questmaster might allow it, because I want to see how you all react when the world is doomed, and you couldn't do anything to stop it.
Anyway, here's the list, descending order:
1) Beakworm, Twiskies
2) Cambria
3) Spragulus
4) Nut
5) Obu
Skwidd's, you might have noticed you're not on the list. You're the exception. I'm offering my hand to you. If you accept, I won't invade any tile you're thriving on, and expect you to do the same. I would settle for a diarchy with you. Hell, I would even accept merging into a single symbiotic species. Your pure spreading power and flexibility is impressive, and combined with my aggression and raw strength, we could rule the world. Consider it. I won't hold it against you if you decline, I'll act against you last. I won't make you act against your friends, as long as you also don't act against me. You could win as a neutral party with no blood on your hands if you wanted to.

3 random tiles will be hit by meteors, killing anything on those tiles. hehe alright, it was cool playing with you! Would love to have to have you again.
You can stay in for the sake of it even if not for winning, you could still evolve the G2 again to mitigate the penalties, but it is very likely too late to "win" at this point for you. Still, would be interested to see how far you can go if you'd be up for that. If not, I understand completely. You played well and made cool evo's, its a good point to resign.

Now just for rumbling:
I think things turned south really as you said, when you pushed with the Rexes despite the bad roll, should have made a different plan by branching out and ditching them, or going super aggressive with them into enemy tiles. Then the G2s fault was oversizing in a place without prey other than your own species. Combination of both this things is what kept you behind I believe. Better rolls, and none of this would happpen c:

rambling* rather.

And to continue rambling: We are at turn 12 at the moment, which is the original point where the game should have ended. Now I see 12 turns is really the best route for this game, since it gets rather too messy and snow-ball-ish at this point. I do like the crisis ending more than the fixed ending, but I should have made it 1d5+X rather than 1d6+X to end it on a better timing. Will use that method for the next 2 crisis events. If you guys also think this is a good point to stop, we could. This game has been super fun for me and i'll def run it again in a better rule iteration, but I think its also important to know when to end it. We can do this turn as the last turn, which is also what was originally intended in t
